- 0:56Speaker 1: Angie, Good morning.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Good morning, Ashley.
- 1:00Speaker 1: How are we great?
- 1:01Speaker 2: I bet you're happy that I am asking you to
- 1:03Speaker 2: join us at eleven o'clock and not eight o'clock like
- 1:05Speaker 2: I usually do.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Yep, I am.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I'm really happy you. You guys should really should have
- 1:11Speaker 3: opened you know, like with this with me, it's like, hey,
- 1:14Speaker 3: how does eleven sound happy.
- 1:16Speaker 4: To do it?
- 1:16Speaker 5: I should have it?
- 1:17Speaker 4: Versus can you.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Join us tomorrow?
- 1:19Speaker 4: Like what is she?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Like?
- 1:20Speaker 3: What time are we talking about?
- 1:21Speaker 1: I wanted to leave it open for you. I don't
- 1:23Speaker 1: know how busy you are these days.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Today is a better day than tomorrow. The day games
- 1:30Speaker 3: just absolutely rattle me. I mean like everything UH speeds
- 1:35Speaker 3: up on me literally, like it's like second batter of
- 1:37Speaker 3: the game and I'm still setting my defenses.
- 1:42Speaker 2: When you said that, for some reason, of course, I know,
- 1:44Speaker 2: I immediately my head went to game changer. You're trying
- 1:48Speaker 2: to set the game changer lineup and you are on
- 1:50Speaker 2: baseball you know what game changers?
- 1:52Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah, All of a sudden, I was like having game
- 1:55Speaker 1: changer flashbacks.
- 1:57Speaker 4: I don't know if anybody is going to make anybody.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Feel better or worse, but my husband and and his
- 2:03Speaker 3: UH is a professor at SPU, and they did like
- 2:07Speaker 3: an analysis of game changer, just like random thousand games
- 2:12Speaker 3: or something like that. And like, you know, because you
- 2:15Speaker 3: have the home team and away team, and like they
- 2:18Speaker 3: I think it was like they never match.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I was gonna say, I doubt they did hit was it?
- 2:22Speaker 3: And then they cross reference it with like if a kid,
- 2:25Speaker 3: this is so bad. If a kid had the same
- 2:28Speaker 3: name as the coach, then it was just like, oh god,
- 2:32Speaker 3: that kid, like like what that kid got like hits
- 2:35Speaker 3: and and everything else.
- 2:37Speaker 4: It was just it was a So.
- 2:38Speaker 3: What I'm saying is just take your game changer stats
- 2:42Speaker 3: with the grain of salts.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Okay, yes you know, and don't read the recap the
- 2:46Speaker 2: AI recap it means nothing.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I love it, though, Oh my god, I'm like, what
- 2:52Speaker 3: you got three hits?
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yet I know it is fun.
- 2:54Speaker 2: You can you do feel a sense of pride, and
- 2:56Speaker 2: then you ignore it though when it says when it
- 2:58Speaker 2: doesn't give your kid the proper status, you're like.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Game changer that.
- 3:01Speaker 4: I was like, that's a bunch of crap.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Oh gosh, see, it's nice to be able to talk
- 3:06Speaker 2: about game changer something frustrating before we talk about other
- 3:09Speaker 2: things that are frustrating. Although last night we did get
- 3:12Speaker 2: a win, but how are you handling like this roller
- 3:14Speaker 2: coaster we are on right now?
- 3:15Speaker 1: To start this Mariner season. I mean, we get swept.
- 3:17Speaker 2: By the Royals, we win against the Braves, we lose
- 3:19Speaker 2: to the White Sox, we eat the Astros, we're swept
- 3:21Speaker 2: by the Padres.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I mean it is the epitome of a roller coaster.
- 3:25Speaker 3: This is this is I go like, this is the
- 3:28Speaker 3: mental equivalent of like pulling my hamstring stopping, yanking my quad,
- 3:34Speaker 3: pulling my hamstring, like I'm like sprinting stopping, sprinting stopping.
- 3:39Speaker 3: You know, I can't do this anymore at my age.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I mean, this is sid but you know I just
- 3:44Speaker 3: do I really and I think everybody would agree. Like
- 3:47Speaker 3: when you look at the division. I said this last night,
- 3:49Speaker 3: it's like, you know, this White Sox team's a good team.
- 3:51Speaker 3: They played in the West, they'd be in first place. Yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 3: But at the same time, like the Mariners are the
- 3:59Speaker 3: best team. Okay, maybe they haven't put it all together yet.
- 4:03Speaker 3: And you know, I'm not We used to make jokes
- 4:06Speaker 3: or like all right, you know, if you're in the
- 4:08Speaker 3: it's early crowd, drink you know every time we say it.
- 4:11Speaker 3: But there are some signs that things are starting to
- 4:16Speaker 3: come together. And I'm liking, you know what, I'm starting
- 4:20Speaker 3: to see I'm totally fascinated, like fascinated, like hands, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 3: just catching my chin right now, like to see what
- 4:29Speaker 3: happens tonight with the piggyback.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Yes, it's I.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Mean, you know, the marriage can tell you. They know
- 4:35Speaker 3: that they have an idea of what they hope is
- 4:37Speaker 3: going to happen. But like everybody is curious about how
- 4:41Speaker 3: this is going to to play out, and I hope,
- 4:44Speaker 3: I hope it goes well.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I love stuff like this.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I love it when the game kind of like tries
- 4:49Speaker 3: different things, like when the Rays, like you know.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Started with the openers and stuff, I'm like, yeah, do it.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I love it. Spring it on, yeah, exactly, mix it up,
- 4:59Speaker 3: you know, get spicy. So yeah, I'm really I'm really
- 5:03Speaker 3: curious to see how this works. And I hope it
- 5:05Speaker 3: can just be because that's.
- 5:07Speaker 4: What it can do.
- 5:08Speaker 3: It can be a win win.
- 5:09Speaker 4: You know, you have the six starters.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Whenever you have six starters, now you lose a bullpen arm,
- 5:15Speaker 3: you know, so how's this gonna go?
- 5:17Speaker 1: And then you have.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Guys you know that are they're playing first starts and
- 5:21Speaker 3: stats and you know, if you did six you know,
- 5:24Speaker 3: starters throughout the year, they're gonna have more less everything,
- 5:28Speaker 3: less strikeouts, less innings, you know, and you know you
- 5:32Speaker 3: can have your agent point to well, they're on a
- 5:34Speaker 3: six man starter, but you know, you get paid off
- 5:37Speaker 3: of what you do, and so like you know, I
- 5:40Speaker 3: knew from talking to the mirrors that was not going
- 5:41Speaker 3: to be a long term solution. But it'll be interesting
- 5:46Speaker 3: to see, like I said, how this how this whole
- 5:47Speaker 3: thing plays out, It could be fantastic. And then you
- 5:50Speaker 3: give the bullpen like if you could if this works
- 5:53Speaker 3: out really well, an entire day off.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Like hello, win win ding ding.
- 5:58Speaker 3: I love it. You know, this is great, especially you
- 6:01Speaker 3: know with with UH they've been taxed recently, so it'll
- 6:05Speaker 3: be good. Totally, let's do it.
- 6:08Speaker 6: And you where are you at with Dan Wilson and
- 6:11Speaker 6: how things have gone for him so far this season?
- 6:13Speaker 6: And a lot of fans are bringing out the pitchforks
- 6:15Speaker 6: and they were being very critical where yes the trident?
- 6:20Speaker 6: Where do you stand in that that Dan Wilson? Where
- 6:23Speaker 6: this team is at and where they could be and
- 6:24Speaker 6: should be going.
- 6:27Speaker 4: This is it's.
- 6:28Speaker 3: It's so unfortunate, you know, this is this is the
- 6:30Speaker 3: life of a manager. I thought it was crazy. I
- 6:34Speaker 3: was like are you kidding me? Dan, You're like the
- 6:36Speaker 3: most beloved guy in the whole entire world. Like you
- 6:38Speaker 3: want to go and manage you know, that stress and
- 6:41Speaker 3: that chaos because even if you, you know, make all
- 6:44Speaker 3: the right decisions, like people just don't even notice.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Like he's had a few.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Games and where were we and I was like everything
- 6:51Speaker 3: he did worked out like it was it was like
- 6:54Speaker 3: and nobody.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Went like Dan Wilson won the game.
- 6:57Speaker 4: You know, nobody said that.
- 6:59Speaker 3: And you know, so every time something doesn't work out,
- 7:01Speaker 3: I mean, you know, God love Rob Revsneider, like he
- 7:05Speaker 3: has you flip over the baseball card. He has been
- 7:08Speaker 3: really good at this he this year it is.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Not worked out.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I'm the first player that is what happened to totally.
- 7:15Speaker 3: And you know, baseball doesn't do anything I say this,
- 7:20Speaker 3: you know often unless it pencils out. Like you know,
- 7:23Speaker 3: people were whining about the shift and like at at
- 7:25Speaker 3: one time.
- 7:26Speaker 4: That the ball was hit where the shortstop should be.
- 7:28Speaker 4: They're like, look, it doesn't work, and it's like, yeah,
- 7:30Speaker 4: but did you see the Rover take away three?
- 7:33Speaker 3: You know, extra base hits in the gap, Like you
- 7:36Speaker 3: have to understand, like baseball is looking at the numbers.
- 7:39Speaker 3: It's there's why they banned it because it was so good.
- 7:43Speaker 3: You know, the knee down catching, like everything they do
- 7:46Speaker 3: is because it works. And you know when you look
- 7:49Speaker 3: at a platoon statistically, it does.
- 7:53Speaker 5: You know work.
- 7:54Speaker 3: It's like the Mariners in their first pitch strikes. I
- 7:56Speaker 3: guess every once in a while, like the opponent's going to.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Ambush a fact and you're like, oh my gosh, like
- 8:01Speaker 1: why is he?
- 8:02Speaker 4: You know, why is he in the zone?
- 8:03Speaker 3: It's like, over the course of the season, that is
- 8:06Speaker 3: going to be a successful approach towards the game. You know,
- 8:10Speaker 3: you can't look at just one pitch and one outcome.
- 8:13Speaker 3: And unfortunately, you know, because guys have and there's a
- 8:17Speaker 3: lot of guys in this lineup that've gotten off to
- 8:19Speaker 3: a slow start. But you know, we want to point well,
- 8:23Speaker 3: those guys went to the WBC and so like, why
- 8:26Speaker 3: isn't this happening? I mean, you don't pick up where
- 8:28Speaker 3: you left off last year. You know, it's a process.
- 8:31Speaker 3: And then at the end of one sixty two you
- 8:33Speaker 3: look at where you are.
- 8:35Speaker 4: And so Dan believes in these guys and he wants them.
- 8:39Speaker 3: To know, you know, I believe in you and and
- 8:41Speaker 3: this is what you're good at, and I'm going to
- 8:43Speaker 3: continue to put you.
- 8:43Speaker 4: In positions to succeed even if you don't.
- 8:47Speaker 3: You know, he's looking at you know, what's your process, like,
- 8:50Speaker 3: what what are your swings?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Like?
- 8:51Speaker 4: You know, I looked at at cold Emerson.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm sure you know, maybe probably.
- 8:56Speaker 3: But like every single at bad to that home run
- 9:01Speaker 3: was a good at that.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Like it was, they were good swings.
- 9:05Speaker 3: I mean, even though he got down O two in
- 9:07Speaker 3: like nearly every one of them, in fact, that slapped him.
- 9:10Speaker 4: In the shoulder. I was like, like, I love it.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Stop getting down oh two.
- 9:13Speaker 3: He was I know, right, Like.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I mean even his first game he had great at bats.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I do put like his first at bat, oh two, boom,
- 9:21Speaker 3: and then he still lined out to right field.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Then he walked. You know, yeah, he.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Wasn't behind in that account that at that at any point.
- 9:29Speaker 4: And then his next.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Step bat O two again, and then he was oh
- 9:32Speaker 3: two again yesterday. But like every single time, he's putting
- 9:35Speaker 3: together a really good quality at bat. And that's what
- 9:38Speaker 3: you have to look at.
- 9:39Speaker 4: You can't get so caught up and you know this
- 9:41Speaker 4: person didn't get a hit.
- 9:43Speaker 7: It's about the quality of the at bat and and
- 9:46Speaker 7: look a little bit, you know, deeper, And that's what
- 9:48Speaker 7: they're doing because they know that eventually the success and
- 9:52Speaker 7: the numbers will come.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Well, and ANDREI, I think it's interesting because, uh, you know,
- 9:57Speaker 2: when we get a win, you look at the whole
- 9:58Speaker 2: the big moments, the excite moments, and you're like, oh that,
- 10:01Speaker 2: you know, look at that win.
- 10:02Speaker 1: All of this came together and we got the win.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Whereas versus a loss, it's you're gonna nitpick all of
- 10:06Speaker 2: these different little things. And I have no problem with
- 10:09Speaker 2: a platoon at all. I do question at times, you know,
- 10:13Speaker 2: pulling Luke Rayley earlier in the game just because of
- 10:17Speaker 2: that lefty righty matchup that we're so obsessed with. And
- 10:21Speaker 2: so my question for I brought this up yesterday with Chuck.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I think, you know, at times, we're everybody's playing checkers.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Everyone in Major League Baseball is playing checkers, just simple
- 10:32Speaker 2: moves here and there.
- 10:33Speaker 1: You're just the feel of the game. You're playing the game.
- 10:35Speaker 2: But it seems like at times the Mariners want to
- 10:37Speaker 2: overcomplicate things. We want to react, we want to play chess,
- 10:40Speaker 2: and we want to try to outsmart somebody else. But
- 10:43Speaker 2: in reality, we're just ending up reacting to the moves
- 10:45Speaker 2: they're making versus being proactive.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Would you agree with that or disagree with that?
- 10:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm a big fan of Luke
- 10:55Speaker 3: Railey and his numbers in the minor leagues against lefties,
- 10:58Speaker 3: you know, they were pretty good. And I but I
- 11:01Speaker 3: asked him, I said, like, hey, are you like getting
- 11:03Speaker 3: on the traject And remember the trajector is a machine
- 11:06Speaker 3: that can mimic any pitcher, any armslot within like you know,
- 11:09Speaker 3: a half of centimeter of what they really do. And
- 11:13Speaker 3: I was like, are you getting on that trajecton just
- 11:14Speaker 3: like grinding against lefties? And he goes no, because they're
- 11:17Speaker 3: not going to put me in those positions. So like
- 11:20Speaker 3: why would I kind of waste my time preparing for
- 11:24Speaker 3: something that's not going to occur, you know. And that's
- 11:27Speaker 3: the danger of like, you know, major League Baseball is
- 11:30Speaker 3: like sort of once you know you are that guy
- 11:33Speaker 3: that they say, like, you know, you, we haven't seen
- 11:36Speaker 3: this success of you know, for you against left handed pitching,
- 11:40Speaker 3: so we're going to you know, we're going to put
- 11:44Speaker 3: a guy that's really good at that in those positions.
- 11:47Speaker 3: And you see, like a guy like Cole Young. It's
- 11:49Speaker 3: like what comes first, you know, the chicken or the egg.
- 11:53Speaker 3: It's like he's a young player and even though like
- 11:56Speaker 3: you can go well, the reason why is because he
- 11:58Speaker 3: faced all these lefties in spring training and he grinded
- 12:00Speaker 3: against him and he had some success, and so now
- 12:02Speaker 3: they're allowing him to see lefties, right, But it's also
- 12:05Speaker 3: because he's young, Like you look at his age versus
- 12:08Speaker 3: you look at Luke Greeley's age, and it's just kind
- 12:10Speaker 3: of like the same thing with Luis Ketto.
- 12:12Speaker 4: They don't gonna stick Louis quest to you in the bullpen.
- 12:14Speaker 8: I mean, yes, he's in the bullpens next, but but
- 12:18Speaker 8: you know he is He's he is not a spring chicken,
- 12:21Speaker 8: you know, And so you know, you have these these
- 12:24Speaker 8: situations and that was the big reason why.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Like me, and you know, if you're an idiot right
- 12:30Speaker 3: there with me on that bus, like cool where we
- 12:33Speaker 3: can't wait to see cold Emerson, They're like be patient,
- 12:36Speaker 3: Like no, bring up cold Emerson.
- 12:38Speaker 4: They're like they really.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Wanted him to face left handed pitching because they didn't
- 12:42Speaker 3: want a situation where they you know, he came up
- 12:45Speaker 3: here and then they had to hit you know, a
- 12:48Speaker 3: right handed bat. You know, they wanted him to be
- 12:51Speaker 3: able to succeed in those situations. So so yeah, I
- 12:56Speaker 3: mean it is I hear you, and I don't disagree
- 13:01Speaker 3: with what you're saying, but I feel like it's one
- 13:05Speaker 3: of those things that if Dan doesn't go to Rob Refsteiner,
- 13:10Speaker 3: because I think he's such a guy that believes in
- 13:12Speaker 3: his players. It's not that he doesn't believe in Luke Rayley,
- 13:15Speaker 3: but if he doesn't go to Rob Refsneinder, he's telling
- 13:17Speaker 3: Rob Brethstneiner, I don't believe in you.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 13:19Speaker 4: I know this is what you're.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Supposed to do, and if I don't put you in
- 13:23Speaker 3: that situation, you don't believe in me, you know, and
- 13:25Speaker 3: my ability to do that.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So all right, I like that explanation makes sense to me.
- 13:32Speaker 6: Angie. What does it say about the organization that veterans
- 13:35Speaker 6: like JP Crawford and even Julio embraced Emmerson despite the
- 13:40Speaker 6: pressure of roster implications surrounding his arrival.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I love this question.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I like and I didn't talk about it on the broadcast,
- 13:50Speaker 3: but like, my heart exploded when I saw JP Crawford
- 13:54Speaker 3: there to create Colt Emerson with the trident.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Let's be real, this is a human being.
- 14:01Speaker 1: He knows who that guy is.
- 14:03Speaker 3: He knew who that guy was when they signed that contract.
- 14:07Speaker 3: They told you play out your contract.
- 14:11Speaker 4: We appreciate everything you've done for us and have at it.
- 14:16Speaker 3: You know, I mean that, that's what that means. Like
- 14:19Speaker 3: he's human, he's he is a guy that has been
- 14:22Speaker 3: successful his entire career, and like stuff like that hurts.
- 14:26Speaker 5: You know.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I understand this is business and everything else, but for
- 14:29Speaker 3: him to be there to celebrate Colt and be the
- 14:32Speaker 3: guy the hands of his first tried and I thought
- 14:34Speaker 3: was just like a really cool thing.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And I know what is for for a just.
- 14:41Speaker 3: A human what was going on in his head? And
- 14:44Speaker 3: he was still there and he still did it? Good
- 14:47Speaker 3: for you, JP loved it.
- 14:49Speaker 2: It was a neat moment, and yeah, you just I
- 14:51Speaker 2: think one of the things that keeps getting talked about
- 14:53Speaker 2: with Luis Casillo with JP Crawford is you know, well,
- 14:56Speaker 2: they don't want to hurt feelings. I don't think these
- 14:58Speaker 2: guys are getting their feelings hurt. They recognize, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 2: we're all a part of a team and we all
- 15:02Speaker 2: have our role to play.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And I think too.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Much is getting put on the emotions of these players
- 15:08Speaker 2: who and I don't think it's giving them enough credit
- 15:11Speaker 2: for being the athletes that they are and the teammates
- 15:13Speaker 2: that they are.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and this.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Starting rotation, you know, going back to Luis Castillo and
- 15:19Speaker 3: focusing on that part of it, it's like something I've
- 15:22Speaker 3: never seen in the whatever. I mean, I started when
- 15:25Speaker 3: I was twelve covering this team, so twenty six, twenty
- 15:28Speaker 3: seven years whatever that I've been doing it since then,
- 15:31Speaker 3: I've never seen anything like the sharing of information. You know.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Usually starting pitchers are like, I do this and it
- 15:42Speaker 3: makes me successful, and the last thing I'm going to
- 15:44Speaker 3: do is show you how I do it and explain
- 15:46Speaker 3: the intricacies of how I get it done. But that's
- 15:50Speaker 3: just not the case with this this starting staff. They're
- 15:53Speaker 3: just so open and they're so helpful to each other,
- 15:56Speaker 3: and they and it's just it's not something that you
- 16:00Speaker 3: often see around baseball. And again, like in all my
- 16:03Speaker 3: years covering this team and others, I just haven't seen
- 16:06Speaker 3: a group that's like this one, you know, and most
- 16:09Speaker 3: of it's because a lot of those guys came up together. Yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 3: But and obviously not with Castillo Casus, you know the vet,
- 16:15Speaker 3: but he certainly has has been like, you know, let
- 16:19Speaker 3: me show you the way.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I do feel like we're so lucky as Seattle fans
- 16:23Speaker 2: because we have this not only with the Mariners, but
- 16:24Speaker 2: with the Seahawks too. Right, you heard so much about
- 16:26Speaker 2: how close they all were together, So it's it's really
- 16:29Speaker 2: fun to watch and speaking of that closeness or how
- 16:31Speaker 2: things might shift or how things might change, I just
- 16:34Speaker 2: have one more question for you before we let you go.
- 16:35Speaker 2: How do you see all of this playing out once
- 16:38Speaker 2: Brendan Donovan comes back from the IL, Like, where do
- 16:40Speaker 2: you see Colt Emerson be staying?
- 16:42Speaker 1: Do you see it making a shift for JP? Where
- 16:44Speaker 1: do you see it going?
- 16:46Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 16:47Speaker 3: No, I think they're going to you know, whenever JP
- 16:50Speaker 3: gets the day off and he doesn't take very many
- 16:53Speaker 3: you know historically but also historically like that was my
- 16:56Speaker 3: demo was on this team for so long too, because
- 16:58Speaker 3: he was the only guy that could play shortstop. So
- 17:03Speaker 3: I think that whenever JP does get a day off,
- 17:06Speaker 3: that's when you'll see Colt slide over there.
- 17:11Speaker 4: And like there was a play last night.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I was wondering even you know, just again that the
- 17:16Speaker 3: little evil thing that sits on my shoulder. I was like,
- 17:19Speaker 3: you know, JP spun around and and through just sort
- 17:23Speaker 3: of up the line, and I was like, I wonder,
- 17:25Speaker 3: I wonder, I wonder if Colt would make that.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, when it went just past Naylor towards the dugout, Yeah, yeah,
- 17:32Speaker 2: again I flicked a little devil off my shoulder.
- 17:35Speaker 1: But it was a great athletic. It was a great athletic.
- 17:38Speaker 1: He just contentis.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Yeah, And so I think Colt is going to stay
- 17:45Speaker 3: there at third.
- 17:46Speaker 4: It is way too much to ask. Colt does have the.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Versatility to play all over the infield, okay, but I
- 17:53Speaker 3: think they're going to ask Brendan Donovan to do that
- 17:56Speaker 3: because Brendan Donovan, you know, is a veteran player and
- 17:59Speaker 3: he can take that that mind mess of having to
- 18:03Speaker 3: to you know, bring all your gloves.
- 18:05Speaker 4: And and and process the game.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Okay, I'm over at second base, and what are my responsibilities?
- 18:10Speaker 3: And if he squares, where am I going? And you know,
- 18:12Speaker 3: just sort of all those things. That's just too much
- 18:14Speaker 3: to ask for Colt. Emerson's talented, and as mature as
- 18:18Speaker 3: this kid is, that guy just needs to sit at
- 18:20Speaker 3: third base make fantastic place that one to second base
- 18:24Speaker 3: where he used the ground and bounced it.
- 18:26Speaker 1: I mean, yes, like love it.
- 18:28Speaker 3: That's just that's just high baseball, IQ, you know what
- 18:32Speaker 3: I mean, like not trying to do too much, just
- 18:35Speaker 3: make the smart play.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Just did the smart thing.
- 18:37Speaker 3: So so yeah, I think he's just gonna sit there
- 18:41Speaker 3: at third and then if JP gets a day off,
- 18:43Speaker 3: you know, we're all gonna look sideways at each other
- 18:46Speaker 3: and raise our eyebro you know when when we see
- 18:49Speaker 3: him play some fun stuffy yeah it is, it'll be fun.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:53Speaker 3: But yeah, so that's what I that's what I see happening.
- 18:55Speaker 3: And because you know, as good as Colt has been,
- 18:58Speaker 3: you know at second base, and don is a fantastic
- 19:01Speaker 3: second basement and he's it's kind of the the Mark Maclamore,
- 19:05Speaker 3: Stan Javier. You know, I'm bringing it back to.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you are one.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Where you know exactly where Brendan Donnon can go everywhere
- 19:14Speaker 3: and give everybody a day off. And I think I
- 19:17Speaker 3: think that's going to be a system that works.
- 19:19Speaker 1: All right.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Well, I'm excited to see what happens tonight with this
- 19:21Speaker 2: piggybacking situation. I'm excited that cold Emerson is up and
- 19:24Speaker 2: we'll see how it all plays out. And I appreciate
- 19:27Speaker 2: you joining us this morning. Anything for you, esh oh,
- 19:31Speaker 2: thank you, thank you. That is Angie Mentink Mariner's TV
- 19:34Speaker 2: just one of the absolute best and I just love
- 19:37Speaker 2: getting to talk to her and pick her brain a
- 19:38Speaker 2: little bit. We are going to be picking the brain
- 19:40Speaker 2: of brains, multiple brains of our listeners. We asked you
- 19:43Speaker 2: a question earlier in the show. Have you ever had
- 19:46Speaker 2: an opportunity to live out your sports dream or even
- 19:49Speaker 2: live it vicariously through someone else. Have you ever seen
- 19:51Speaker 2: something in person that was kind of a dream come
- 19:53Speaker 2: true for you? You can text us on the Tacoma
- 19:55Speaker 2: Dodge text line four nine four or five one. You
- 19:57Speaker 2: can hit us up on the YouTube chat as well.
- 19:59Speaker 2: We're gonna go over the though texts coming up at
- 20:01Speaker 2: Sports Radio ninety three three KJRFM.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Sports Radio ninety three three.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Kjr FM Ashley Ryan Christopher Kidd in for Greg Bell,
- 20:13Speaker 2: who was attending his daughter's graduation from the Coast Guard
- 20:16Speaker 2: Academy this week. He will be back on Friday, so
- 20:18Speaker 2: you'll have us today us tomorrow, Benton. Say it correctly, though,
- 20:23Speaker 2: Christopher Kid, Because I failed it, Mike Benton. There you go,
- 20:27Speaker 2: Mike Benton on Thursday, and then Greg back here on Friday.
- 20:30Speaker 2: So we have been asking the question, what is your
- 20:34Speaker 2: greatest sports achievement? What is the moment you got to
- 20:36Speaker 2: live out that was kind of your sports dream. I
- 20:39Speaker 2: suppose it didn't have to be just sports related, though,
- 20:41Speaker 2: because I love this one on the YouTube chat from
- 20:44Speaker 2: Tahoe Jeff, who said, not sports, but I lived down
- 20:46Speaker 2: a dream by winning Wheel of Fortune in May of
- 20:49Speaker 2: twenty sixteen.
- 20:51Speaker 1: That's pretty cool, very cool.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I feel like I would get so close to winning
- 20:56Speaker 2: Wheel of Fortune and then I'd land on bankrupt and
- 20:58Speaker 2: lose it all.
- 20:58Speaker 1: That would be my luck.
- 21:00Speaker 6: From the two six great stories on realizing big time moments.
- 21:04Speaker 6: Thanks for sharing this brings up My son shares both
- 21:08Speaker 6: of your stories. His first love is football, but realizing
- 21:11Speaker 6: track is his thing. Four hundred four bar four hundred
- 21:14Speaker 6: four bar one hundred. You would have gone to State
- 21:16Speaker 6: this year as a sophomore, but he got injured.
- 21:19Speaker 5: Oh sad?
- 21:20Speaker 6: Or is he saying that I was?
- 21:21Speaker 1: He's saying he would have? I think well maybe, Okay.
- 21:24Speaker 6: Nonetheless, we went to California over spring break to see
- 21:27Speaker 6: several campuses. When he saw the Colisseum, he said, right
- 21:31Speaker 6: then and there, he wants to go to USC and
- 21:33Speaker 6: maybe with focus on training for track, he becomes a dream.
- 21:37Speaker 6: That's a possibility. I will share your guys' stories tonight.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I mean, I fully get it.
- 21:43Speaker 2: As I said, I saw the Aquatic Center, but when
- 21:46Speaker 2: I walked to the Coliseum it was dark, like the
- 21:49Speaker 2: just the stadium itself was lit up, but there was
- 21:52Speaker 2: no one there, and I was standing outside the gates
- 21:53Speaker 2: and I was like, I'm coming here. Yeah, I'm coming here.
- 21:57Speaker 2: So I get that feeling when you see the coliseum.
- 21:59Speaker 2: It kind of gives you those goosebumps. We got this
- 22:02Speaker 2: one from the two o six attended Super Bowl? Is
- 22:05Speaker 2: that sixty Yeah, trip of a lifetime. So they just
- 22:08Speaker 2: went to see the Seahawks win the Super Bowl. Yeah,
- 22:10Speaker 2: that'd be pretty fun, sure would was Is that on.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Your bucket list to go see the Seahawks and the
- 22:14Speaker 1: Super Bowl?
- 22:15Speaker 4: Might either I.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Want to watch it at home?
- 22:16Speaker 5: I don't. Yeah, that's that's a lot. Yeah.
- 22:18Speaker 6: I can only imagine the headache of doing all that,
- 22:20Speaker 6: But once you get there, it's probably great and then
- 22:23Speaker 6: getting out is another headache. But don't be so yeah,
- 22:26Speaker 6: I'm done talking about that. How about this from the
- 22:28Speaker 6: cakes Fair final leg of the four times four forty
- 22:32Speaker 6: in junior high set the school record for the four
- 22:35Speaker 6: forty fifty four point five. It'll never be broken, all right, flex.
- 22:39Speaker 5: All oh wow that is Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 6: I'm only top ten in long jump and some kid
- 22:44Speaker 6: just moved me out of top I was number six,
- 22:47Speaker 6: now number seven, so shout out to I have to
- 22:49Speaker 6: look his name, but yeah, he just moved me. I
- 22:51Speaker 6: was number six behind Joey Foguson and now number seven. Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 6: because this kid jumped twenty one to eight and I'm
- 22:57Speaker 6: just like, great.
- 22:58Speaker 2: That is the That's some athleticism, That's what I'll say. Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 2: From the four two five high school swimmer ten thousand
- 23:05Speaker 2: to fifteen thousand yards in two days during winter breaks, grinding,
- 23:08Speaker 2: and I got to swim in state at Federal Way.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I've that's where all the state championships happened in Federal Way.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so very cool moment for that listener. I am
- 23:18Speaker 2: sure you got another one over there.
- 23:20Speaker 6: Yes from Lee out of the three six to oh.
- 23:23Speaker 6: I coached cross country and track for many years. There
- 23:26Speaker 6: are two moments that come to mind seeing one of
- 23:28Speaker 6: our runners go to Stanford on scholarship, become an NCAA
- 23:32Speaker 6: All American and eventually compete in Olympic marathon trials. And secondly,
- 23:37Speaker 6: seeing a different kid join the Navy and break all
- 23:40Speaker 6: training records in boot camp and eventually see him become
- 23:44Speaker 6: a medic embedded with sealed teams and earn the honor
- 23:47Speaker 6: of being named top medic in the country in one year.
- 23:50Speaker 1: That actually just gave me chills.
- 23:51Speaker 5: That one.
- 23:52Speaker 1: That is very cool.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I like that, and that's why I was saying, it
- 23:54Speaker 2: doesn't have to be something you achieved, because as a
- 23:56Speaker 2: coach or as a mentor, you know you can live
- 23:59Speaker 2: those moments when you see the people that you were
- 24:01Speaker 2: training and you were helping. I think as a parent
- 24:02Speaker 2: it can be the same way. We got this one
- 24:04Speaker 2: from the two five to three. I was a late bloomer,
- 24:06Speaker 2: didn't start playing sports until my junior year of high school.
- 24:08Speaker 2: But as a father, I've made sure to give all
- 24:10Speaker 2: of my children every opportunity I never had. My proudest
- 24:13Speaker 2: moment came when my oldest son joined the South Hill
- 24:15Speaker 2: Little League team in the seniors division two years ago.
- 24:18Speaker 2: We ended up winning districts and went on to play
- 24:20Speaker 2: in the state tournament. My son came in with two
- 24:22Speaker 2: runners on and no outs and ended up saving the
- 24:24Speaker 2: game with just.
- 24:25Speaker 1: A one run lead.
- 24:27Speaker 2: The real proud dad moment came though, in the state
- 24:29Speaker 2: championships game at Funco Field, tie ballgame bottom six. He
- 24:33Speaker 2: comes up to bat and absolutely smokes one to dead
- 24:35Speaker 2: center field and one hopped the fence to walk it
- 24:37Speaker 2: off and send our team to Oakland for the Little
- 24:39Speaker 2: League World Series.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Again, chills like these are all just awesome.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Like I feel like I'm getting to see I'm visualizing
- 24:46Speaker 2: what you're telling us, and it's so cool.
- 24:48Speaker 6: From the two six kid, the story was awesome. I
- 24:52Speaker 6: made it to state in the sixteen hundred and you
- 24:55Speaker 6: just brought back some fantastic memories. Congrats on that, even
- 24:58Speaker 6: though it happened way back in high school.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Still very cool.
- 25:02Speaker 5: You got darn right, man.
- 25:03Speaker 6: I always cherished that it was a good memory. I
- 25:05Speaker 6: learned a lot, so yeah, great memory.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Yeah, very cool, very cool. There was one where was
- 25:10Speaker 1: it that I saw earlier? Oh?
- 25:11Speaker 2: From the two O six scored the game winning penalty
- 25:13Speaker 2: kick for the soccer national U seventeen team.
- 25:17Speaker 1: That's pretty cool. Game winning penalty kick on the.
- 25:19Speaker 2: National team, the U seventeen national I mean there's different levels.
- 25:23Speaker 2: It's not like the one that's playing in the World Cup,
- 25:25Speaker 2: but that's.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Still very impressive. To be a U seventeen national team.
- 25:28Speaker 1: That's very cool.
- 25:29Speaker 6: From the two six, my proudest moment comes from mentoring
- 25:33Speaker 6: others who have gone on to great professional and collegiate
- 25:36Speaker 6: careers in basketball officiating. I repped great players, incredibly great games.
- 25:41Speaker 6: This is my legacy I'm most proud of.
- 25:44Speaker 5: Man.
- 25:45Speaker 6: I too was an official, but I only did innermurals
- 25:47Speaker 6: and that was fun.
- 25:48Speaker 5: It wasn't a dream.
- 25:49Speaker 6: But people were like, Chris, you know, you ever thought
- 25:51Speaker 6: about high school officiating?
- 25:53Speaker 3: Nah?
- 25:53Speaker 1: Man, you don't want to get yelled at.
- 25:54Speaker 5: No, it wasn't that.
- 25:55Speaker 6: It was more so I just saw I just that
- 25:58Speaker 6: wasn't the path I saw myself going on. But now
- 26:01Speaker 6: that I look back at it, yeah, maybe in an
- 26:02Speaker 6: alternate universe, I'm some high school legend and maybe even
- 26:06Speaker 6: got a chance to go do some collegiate ball. That
- 26:07Speaker 6: would be. That was fun. Getting paid a couple hundred dollars.
- 26:10Speaker 6: You just blow your whistle and yell at people. I
- 26:12Speaker 6: didn't mind that.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Now I don't blame you.
- 26:14Speaker 2: And we're gonna wrap up with this one because we've
- 26:16Speaker 2: got Ian Fornest coming in next. But I do want
- 26:18Speaker 2: to remind people with this text you can still achieve
- 26:20Speaker 2: your dreams if they're out there. Two oh six says,
- 26:22Speaker 2: to be honest, I've always wanted to play hockey, but
- 26:24Speaker 2: I didn't have super supportive parents. So now that I'm
- 26:27Speaker 2: forty two and I can afford it, I am with
- 26:29Speaker 2: the Krakens program. See there you go, never too late
- 26:31Speaker 2: to start chasing those dreams.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I love that.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Thank you everyone for sharing all of those awesome texts
- 26:37Speaker 2: and helping us get to celebrate your achievements.
- 26:39Speaker 1: We, as I said, do have Ian Fornest coming in next.
- 26:42Speaker 2: We'll be back with the Mayor Sports Radio ninety three
- 26:45Speaker 2: three KJRFM.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Sports Radio ninety three three kjr FM.
- 26:56Speaker 2: It is Ashley Ryan Christopher Kidd in for Greg Bell,
- 26:58Speaker 2: and we are now joined by you one and only,
- 27:00Speaker 2: the Mayor of Maple Valley Ian forness.
- 27:03Speaker 1: How's your morning going so far?
- 27:04Speaker 5: Actually it's going okay.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Tuesday, yeah, I got along week ahead.
- 27:09Speaker 5: What what's your least favorite day of the week Wednesdays? Really? Yes,
- 27:12Speaker 5: I hate Tuesdays.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Okay, Bucky hates Tuesdays as.
- 27:15Speaker 5: Well, absolutely despise Tuesdays. Like, if I'm ranking him in order,
- 27:18Speaker 5: Tuesday number one on the hate list, Okay, Monday two, Yeah,
- 27:23Speaker 5: maybe Wednesday three. Okay, Thursday Friday.
- 27:27Speaker 2: So I would go Wednesday for sure, because it's the
- 27:29Speaker 2: day that I'm the most tired, because.
- 27:31Speaker 5: It's the middle of the Okay, I see that.
- 27:32Speaker 2: But then it turns into the back like then, you know,
- 27:35Speaker 2: once you get over that hump, you're like, Okay, Thursday, Friday,
- 27:37Speaker 2: this is easy.
- 27:38Speaker 1: But it's just like I'm a zombie on a Wednesday.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so it goes Wednesday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.
- 27:44Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, I'm just Tuesdays for me, don't not into it.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Get through Tuesday, and then it's like okay, and I
- 27:50Speaker 5: a lot of times Wednesday have little Wednesday golf leagues.
- 27:52Speaker 5: So once I get to that, I feel like, okay,
- 27:53Speaker 5: I have the weekend chair. Yeah, well have two days left.
- 27:56Speaker 5: But I think I just revert back to college in Yeah,
- 27:58Speaker 5: it's like, oh well, Thursday, Thursday going out, Nights, Thursdays, Wednesdays,
- 28:02Speaker 5: function night. The fraternity went Thursdays like Wooden Nickels, the
- 28:05Speaker 5: coug or whatever. And then yeah, then Friday's that's a
- 28:08Speaker 5: day off.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you might as well do nothing.
- 28:11Speaker 2: I think you could relate to this too, because obviously
- 28:14Speaker 2: you are a dad of two. I am just in
- 28:16Speaker 2: the middle of travel softball and little league. So it's
- 28:21Speaker 2: two to three games in the week for a little
- 28:24Speaker 2: league and then we have had travel softball tournament, travel
- 28:27Speaker 2: softball tournament, and we get another travel softball tournament to
- 28:30Speaker 2: go to Winnatchi this weekend.
- 28:31Speaker 1: All the Memorial Day weekend, Well.
- 28:33Speaker 5: That'd be fun. I'm sure getting hotels was fun for that.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Luckily we did it early enough, but I'm not looking
- 28:38Speaker 2: back forward to the drive back on Monday.
- 28:40Speaker 5: No, that's not good. I think we avoided I want
- 28:44Speaker 5: to say we kind of avoided the Memorial Day tournaments.
- 28:47Speaker 5: It felt like at least it.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Would be a good I feel like it's pretty easy
- 28:51Speaker 2: to avoid any holiday weekend tournament.
- 28:53Speaker 5: Yeah, we got Like, so my daughter played, she played soccer,
- 28:57Speaker 5: she played Select Premier whatever you call club soccer, and
- 29:00Speaker 5: so we did travel for her for that. But she
- 29:03Speaker 5: wanted to do everything. She did softball, fast pitched in
- 29:06Speaker 5: high school, soccer, across country. Her early travel stuff was
- 29:11Speaker 5: was soccer and and they were pretty good about that.
- 29:14Speaker 5: We didn't deal Keifer was We did a lot at
- 29:16Speaker 5: about AAU basketball. We did two years of travel baseball
- 29:19Speaker 5: and then AAU baseball or AU basketball. And so I
- 29:22Speaker 5: you get to know if you're in that world. Every
- 29:25Speaker 5: fair field in Courtyard by Marriott, Hilton Garden, in Hilton Garden,
- 29:30Speaker 5: across the state. Yeah, Tri Cities is your friend, Yakama
- 29:34Speaker 5: is your friend, when Atchi's your friend. I like Spokane,
- 29:37Speaker 5: even though it was a further drive, bigger city.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Yeah, better better quality hotels.
- 29:41Speaker 5: Better hotels, better choice, better food. Yeah, Lay was a
- 29:44Speaker 5: little rough. Last Lacy would suck. I would not want to.
- 29:47Speaker 5: Oh yeah, and you live so far away. Did you
- 29:50Speaker 5: have to stay down there?
- 29:51Speaker 1: Yeah we did.
- 29:51Speaker 2: And our hotel, I will say, very nice. The other hotel,
- 29:56Speaker 2: the pool was like a dungeon. And then the hotel
- 29:58Speaker 2: next to that. As we were trying, as Palmer and
- 30:01Speaker 2: I were walking out of the parking lot that the
- 30:03Speaker 2: two hotels shared, yeah, there was a unhoused man. We'll
- 30:07Speaker 2: say so I almost yeah, yeah, just kind of walking
- 30:11Speaker 2: around and then I think he saw someone was like,
- 30:12Speaker 2: oh I better just face the building. So they don't
- 30:14Speaker 2: think I'm up to anything. And then we noticed that
- 30:17Speaker 2: the roof like was partially carved in from some sort
- 30:20Speaker 2: of flooding damage or something. And then Palmer said, oh, mom,
- 30:23Speaker 2: look and there there you go. An animal pooped on
- 30:28Speaker 2: a rock. And I had to inform her that animals
- 30:31Speaker 2: don't usually do that on rocks. No, they don't need
- 30:34Speaker 2: to sit down on something.
- 30:36Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that. I got you.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I'm tracking the best quality there.
- 30:41Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I got you. I will also tell you this.
- 30:44Speaker 5: I every weekend, there's part of me that misses it.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Oh yeah, every weekend there's part of me that miss
- 30:50Speaker 5: is it because we you know, we you know, it's
- 30:52Speaker 5: like when my daughter was done, and because she's six
- 30:55Speaker 5: years older than my son, so when she was done,
- 30:58Speaker 5: we were kind of starting to rack and rack things
- 31:01Speaker 5: up a little bit harder with him. And yeah, there
- 31:05Speaker 5: were weekends We're like, I'd great to be home and
- 31:07Speaker 5: doing nothing, and then but then when it ends, you're like,
- 31:12Speaker 5: now what do we do? Like last year we were
- 31:14Speaker 5: was the first year that we were you know, my
- 31:17Speaker 5: wife was a sports widow. Yeah.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Uh.
- 31:19Speaker 5: And there's like a couple of good Instagram accounts with
- 31:22Speaker 5: that I sent her some stuff for a couple of
- 31:24Speaker 5: other moms for that were with the college football team
- 31:27Speaker 5: he's on, and they're just like, don't ever do that
- 31:28Speaker 5: to me again. Yeah. So, I mean we missed, we missed.
- 31:33Speaker 5: And you know, the funny thing is the kids when
- 31:35Speaker 5: they're done, they're done parents, aren't, you know, And I
- 31:38Speaker 5: think I look back, I think for me, the biggest
- 31:40Speaker 5: thing was the rides to practice were the biggest things.
- 31:44Speaker 5: And then when he started driving or she started driving,
- 31:47Speaker 5: he didn't have that yet. Yeah, I don't have to
- 31:50Speaker 5: deal with that every Tuesday night and Thursday night and
- 31:52Speaker 5: whatever night. Right, But then you're like, Okay, I kind
- 31:54Speaker 5: of missed that time with the kid.
- 31:56Speaker 1: And now I don't feel needed.
- 31:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the needed part, Yeah, I think it
- 32:00Speaker 5: was just more the time you get with them. Yeah,
- 32:02Speaker 5: you know, just like just the time you get with them,
- 32:05Speaker 5: and then watching your kids compete, especially if it's something
- 32:08Speaker 5: they love doing. And you know, we were always careful
- 32:11Speaker 5: and we're not perfect parents, nobody is, but we're always careful,
- 32:14Speaker 5: like do you want to do this or not?
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yes?
- 32:15Speaker 5: And if you don't, good, just tell us.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, I'm here to support you. I'm not here
- 32:20Speaker 2: to make you do something you don't want to be.
- 32:21Speaker 5: Yeah, he was done with travel baseball after eighth grade.
- 32:24Speaker 5: So going into high school is like, I don't want
- 32:26Speaker 5: to play. I'm I'm done with baseball. I'm just boring.
- 32:29Speaker 5: I don't like playing it because I like playing games.
- 32:31Speaker 5: I just can't be in a gym in December hitting
- 32:34Speaker 5: tennis balls or whatever. I just can't do that. Yeah.
- 32:36Speaker 5: And he was such a basketball football kid that in
- 32:38Speaker 5: the basketball was his love. Yeah, even though he's football.
- 32:42Speaker 5: But uh yeah, so when when he when he's like
- 32:44Speaker 5: he's like I'm done with trial, I'm done with baseball,
- 32:46Speaker 5: I'm like, okay, well I'll put the red solo cups away.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I know right, Like the amount of little different
- 32:51Speaker 2: drinking vessels, and you know, you've got the other moms
- 32:54Speaker 2: that will bring wine to different games, like we take our.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Turn and it's become a thing now, Like Benton sent
- 32:59Speaker 5: me a thing the other day, a big old controversy
- 33:01Speaker 5: up there in Snowhoe County up there with the Everett whatever.
- 33:04Speaker 1: But yeah, apparently I got to keep it. You got
- 33:07Speaker 1: to keep it on the d L.
- 33:08Speaker 2: It's ever, Yeah, would expect. I mean, I'm I'm I
- 33:11Speaker 2: think he's Marysville. Yeah, I'm part of Everett, but we
- 33:13Speaker 2: keep it very quiet.
- 33:14Speaker 5: I think he's ever. I think he's Marysville type thing.
- 33:16Speaker 5: I think that's when you get listen. You should you
- 33:19Speaker 5: should just be careful. I mean, yeah, thing is like
- 33:21Speaker 5: the other thing to do. You find yourself picking teams
- 33:24Speaker 5: based on parents.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Oh yeah, And this.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Was our first year in Little League that we were
- 33:29Speaker 2: going to going to play with a team that we
- 33:30Speaker 2: hadn't played within like three years, and so we knew
- 33:34Speaker 2: some of the people because you obviously get to know
- 33:36Speaker 2: everybody but the parents.
- 33:37Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh gosh, how's this going to go?
- 33:39Speaker 2: And I'm already good friends with one of the moms, Christina.
- 33:41Speaker 2: She's great and she brought wine last week. I brought
- 33:44Speaker 2: wine the week before. So you know, we're we're fulfilling
- 33:47Speaker 2: that duty. They're also great.
- 33:49Speaker 5: Yeah, so we've got the hotel lobby is always your friends.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Yes, you know, yeah, pizza parties and wine.
- 33:55Speaker 5: We had four years at the Courtyard by Marriott in
- 33:58Speaker 5: downtown Spokane for for Whitworth University football, and they got
- 34:04Speaker 5: to know us. We're there. They had a great lobby.
- 34:06Speaker 5: We'd hang out there. It was just kind of and
- 34:08Speaker 5: you know, with other parents and tailgating and all those
- 34:11Speaker 5: it was so much fun. I just I look back
- 34:13Speaker 5: on those times, I'm like, god it I you know.
- 34:15Speaker 5: But when it's funny, like after his last game, I
- 34:18Speaker 5: was I was doing Seahawks and so he was in
- 34:21Speaker 5: Chicago and they lost in the in the playoffs, and
- 34:24Speaker 5: I said, how are you. He's like, I'm good. Oh,
- 34:27Speaker 5: I'm good.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm done.
- 34:28Speaker 5: I'm done. Body's done. Did my time and all those things.
- 34:32Speaker 5: And I think back. Some of our best friends that
- 34:34Speaker 5: you know, we're still close with are people we met
- 34:36Speaker 5: through youth sports, which I think is one of them
- 34:38Speaker 5: better things, one of the cool things. In fact, even
- 34:40Speaker 5: for my daughter, a lot of her friends are people
- 34:44Speaker 5: she played soccer with.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Uh.
- 34:46Speaker 5: And for my son, you know, I think obviously college
- 34:50Speaker 5: football is different. He's really tight with the guys. He
- 34:52Speaker 5: lived in the house with offensive lineman and a couple
- 34:54Speaker 5: of the linemen, so he's tied with those guys because
- 34:57Speaker 5: it's college is a little different. But he played for
- 34:59Speaker 5: a AU program called ken Elite, And I always laugh
- 35:02Speaker 5: when people just rip on AU and I said, you
- 35:04Speaker 5: know what, the best thing that ever happened to my
- 35:05Speaker 5: son is he played for kenn eleat AU basketball. The
- 35:09Speaker 5: most is diverse. We come from Maple Valley, not the
- 35:11Speaker 5: most diverse place in the world. To whole high school,
- 35:13Speaker 5: not the most diverse place in the world. Ken Elite,
- 35:16Speaker 5: it's it's all the NPSL schools just put in a
- 35:18Speaker 5: blender and some of his really good friends to stay.
- 35:21Speaker 5: He still plays basketball with it the Covington or renting
- 35:24Speaker 5: La fitness. Our dudes he played basketball with, played with AU,
- 35:29Speaker 5: and played against in the NPSL, like Kentwood kids, kent
- 35:33Speaker 5: Rich kids, KM guys, all that stuff, Auburn, Kennedy and
- 35:36Speaker 5: all that. And I think that's what that's what the
- 35:38Speaker 5: kids benefit out of that stuff, you know. And god,
- 35:41Speaker 5: I see so many kids nowadays. You know. Do you
- 35:43Speaker 5: guys have the electric bike issue going on?
- 35:44Speaker 2: Oh my god, yes, I feel like old man yelling
- 35:47Speaker 2: at clouds, like get off my lawn.
- 35:49Speaker 5: I'm like casking myself.
- 35:51Speaker 1: So don't you need a license?
- 35:52Speaker 5: You do? Actually, Maple Valley cops sent out a thing
- 35:56Speaker 5: to like the Facebook page and all the schools that
- 35:59Speaker 5: most of those are illegal for kids under sixteen.
- 36:01Speaker 1: That's what I thought, and that they write them around
- 36:03Speaker 1: like idiots.
- 36:04Speaker 5: And they ride them on sidewalks and the are banging
- 36:06Speaker 5: through people.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Their parents bottom for them.
- 36:07Speaker 5: Because the parents don't want to do anything with it.
- 36:09Speaker 5: It's like, I'll just buy that. It's I think they
- 36:12Speaker 5: look at like it's is it better than putting them
- 36:14Speaker 5: on a video game all day?
- 36:16Speaker 1: No it isn't, but they think it is.
- 36:19Speaker 5: Oh yeah they're outside. Yeah, well yeah, they're outside terrorizing.
- 36:21Speaker 1: People and they're not getting an exercise. It's an electric.
- 36:24Speaker 5: Electric bike and just running around. Yeah, those are I
- 36:28Speaker 5: every day. O'h my god, it's one of these days
- 36:31Speaker 5: that tragedy in our neighborhood's going to happen. Yep, It's
- 36:33Speaker 5: one hundred percent going to happen. And I'm just like, God,
- 36:35Speaker 5: I don't want to be there for it. I don't
- 36:37Speaker 5: want to think about it, but it's going to happen.
- 36:38Speaker 5: So I'd rather the kid be playing a sport. I'd
- 36:41Speaker 5: rather people go, oh, the stupid select sports or this
- 36:43Speaker 5: and that and all that. It's too it is expensive,
- 36:46Speaker 5: but sometimes you pay a price for having the kids.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes you do, and supporting your.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Kids what they do, what they and what they'll get
- 36:52Speaker 5: out of it later in life. What do you have
- 36:56Speaker 5: coming up on the show today, Well, we're going to
- 36:58Speaker 5: replay about sick. There's seven minutes in the twelve o'clock
- 37:02Speaker 5: hour of our mollywat Monday yesterday with the Dan Wilson conversation.
- 37:09Speaker 5: It our our social media guru Mike Benton did put
- 37:12Speaker 5: it on some stuff on Instagram and it blew up
- 37:15Speaker 5: like I haven't seen in a long time.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Wow.
- 37:17Speaker 5: And so we're gonna revisit that a little bit. Yeah,
- 37:19Speaker 5: they won last night, Yeah, and which is great. But
- 37:21Speaker 5: I think Chuck said I saw the recap he wrote yesterday.
- 37:26Speaker 5: I don't want to misquote him Monday show, Chuck said,
- 37:28Speaker 5: bad team, bad manager. Yes, bad manager. That seems to
- 37:32Speaker 5: be being shared by a lot of people. And you know,
- 37:35Speaker 5: and so what what do we expect out of him?
- 37:37Speaker 5: So we'll talk a little bit about that and replace
- 37:39Speaker 5: some of that stuff with Nathan and Chris because I
- 37:41Speaker 5: thought it was really powerful. We'll revisit that a little bit.
- 37:45Speaker 5: I'm gonna Joe she enjoyed this weekly visit with him
- 37:47Speaker 5: coming up at one twenty. We're expecting John Lone at
- 37:49Speaker 5: two o'clock. He's never on time. We'll see if he's
- 37:51Speaker 5: on time today. Sure, that'd be great. That would be
- 37:55Speaker 5: the under. Oay, perfect, that would be the under. And
- 37:58Speaker 5: then I'm gonna I listened to Feine Softy yesterday. They
- 38:02Speaker 5: brought it up last Friday. Oklahoma City. Do we have
- 38:05Speaker 5: an Oklahoma City problem? Are they living rent free? In
- 38:08Speaker 5: everybody's head? Yeah, Dick Faine made the comment that sent
- 38:11Speaker 5: Sideway Softy sideways. This is how you should build a team.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Softie lost it.
- 38:15Speaker 5: And he's right. And also Dick's wrong because this is
- 38:19Speaker 5: not how you built you don't. It's so different what
- 38:21Speaker 5: you're going to have an expansion team as opposed to
- 38:23Speaker 5: with a team that was already as opposed to a
- 38:24Speaker 5: team stole and they tanked and they got Chet Holmgren. Yeah,
- 38:29Speaker 5: SGA was a great trade. But Jalen with an L
- 38:32Speaker 5: and Chet Holmgren, you tanked and you traded a bunch
- 38:35Speaker 5: of guys away and you finished second to last in
- 38:37Speaker 5: the league twice in two years. Do you want that
- 38:39Speaker 5: in Seattle? Well the songs come here now, Okay, we'll
- 38:42Speaker 5: talk about that.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Okay, all right, Well that is coming up with the
