- 0:19I'm Jessica and this is Tabot K Rambles where a couple of
- 0:22friends review Korean dramas and welcome back for another
- 0:25episode. We are going to be reviewing
- 0:29Connection. And for this episode I am joined
- 0:32by my true crime crime thriller bestie, Caitlin from the No
- 0:37Sleep for Dramas podcast. How are you, Caitlin?
- 0:40Hello, I'm good. I'm so excited I get a chance to
- 0:43talk about this. Oh my God, So girl, like we have
- 0:48been chatting on and off about this drama for a long time.
- 0:51You're the one who put it on my radar because last year you said
- 0:55it was in like your top five dramas of 2024.
- 0:58And I said, whoa, what is this drama?
- 1:00So we kind of were talking through and we were like, we
- 1:04have to watch this drama. What if I, what if I covered it
- 1:06on Tabak? Would you come on and review it
- 1:08with me? And you were like absolutely,
- 1:09100%. I'll come on and review it with
- 1:11you. So now the time has finally
- 1:14come. I have watched it for the first
- 1:16time. You have rewatched.
- 1:18It. I'm just so excited, so excited.
- 1:22To talk. I'm excited because, yeah, when
- 1:23I watched this the first time, there were not a lot of people
- 1:26who watched it for various reasons.
- 1:28Like some of the dramas that were airing around the same time
- 1:32were a lot more popular. Some people might not be fans of
- 1:35G songs, so they skipped it. So like, I literally, it was
- 1:40like me and one other person on Instagram who were both watching
- 1:45at the same time and we were both messaging each other.
- 1:47And I, I have to remember who it was because I don't remember off
- 1:50the top of my head right now. But we were both like, thank God
- 1:53you're watching this. I need to talk about it with
- 1:55somebody. Yeah.
- 1:57If you remember the game, shut them out.
- 1:59But I will, I, I'll, I'll look it up or maybe I'll give it to
- 2:02you after and I'll you can put it in the notes or something.
- 2:04Yeah, because honestly, this show, no, like barely anybody
- 2:08was talking. I think I saw one person on
- 2:10TikTok talking about connection and really it was not in a lot
- 2:14of top ten, top five lists at the end of the year.
- 2:17Creators just were not talking about this.
- 2:20K drama. And I like to genre hop.
- 2:24I like to dip my toes into a lot of different genres.
- 2:28I don't just stick with romance. I don't just stick with slice of
- 2:31life. I like dark and gritty dramas
- 2:34and this one really grabbed my attention from the get go.
- 2:37So before we get into it though, if this is your first time

- 3:25#2, Pam, and Cynthia. Thank you so much for supporting
- 3:29the show. All right, so we're going to
- 3:31deep dive on connection. I have some notes.
- 3:34I'm not sure if you have notes or if you're just going to wing
- 3:37it because. I'm winging it.
- 3:40I usually do. Caitlin doesn't show up with
- 3:43notes, she just like wings it every time.
- 3:46And I respect that. I respect that.
- 3:48I really do. So we're going to start off as
- 3:51always with the My Drama list synopsis for this non spoiler
- 3:53section, it reads. Detective Dong De Kyung of
- 3:57Onions Narcotics Unit is forcibly addicted to a
- 4:00mysterious drug as his body deteriorates.
- 4:04Reporter All Yunjin, his former high school friend, investigates
- 4:08a drug related death and crosses paths with him again.
- 4:11Their pursuit of the truth entangles them with Gung Hyung
- 4:14Groups vice chairman and a prosecutor unraveling a dark
- 4:18conspiracy tied to $50 million. As betrayals surface, Jake Young
- 4:24bows retribution. But who is the real mastermind
- 4:27and who will survive the battle? This aired from May to July
- 4:332024. So happy anniversary, one year
- 4:37anniversary to Connection. Because when this episode airs,
- 4:39it will be, I think, a May 8th release.
- 4:42This originally aired at the end of May.
- 4:45But that's OK, We'll just give it the one year anniversary.
- 4:48Happy one year. Some of the other dramas that
- 4:51aired around this time, you mentioned that maybe this would
- 4:55affect it. You know, the popularity of
- 4:57Connection. Midnight Romans and Hogwan aired
- 5:01May 11th and was airing around the same time.
- 5:04The Atypical Family aired May 4th and Crash aired May 13th.
- 5:10So some other dramas that we're cooking around this time,
- 5:14there's other ones too, but I just thought, oh, these were
- 5:16like a little more popular than maybe some of some of the other
- 5:18ones. This show is 14 episodes long,
- 5:231/4 and it looks like it has two directors, Kim Moon Kyo who's
- 5:28directed Trolley and Lovers of the Red Sky and Quan Dassam
- 5:31who's directed My Demon and Trolley.
- 5:34So these directors have worked together twice on Trolley and
- 5:38Connection. It's written by Ehion.
- 5:41For some reason it looks like this person has only done 2
- 5:43projects, Connection and Diary of a Prosecutor.
- 5:47Wow, that's a very, very different genre.
- 5:52So so you've watched some of these shows like have you
- 5:56watched Trolley I? Have actually not watched any of
- 5:58them. Trolley has been on my list
- 6:00forever because I've heard very good things about it.
- 6:04I have not watched Diary of a Prosecutor.
- 6:06I've heard, again, very good things, but it's more of like a
- 6:10slice of life for a prosecutor's life.
- 6:13And so I'm very wishy washy when it comes to slice of life genre.
- 6:17So I just haven't checked it out, but a couple of people have
- 6:20been like, dying for me to watch it.
- 6:23Gotcha. So, yeah, yeah.
- 6:25All right, this show does have a large cast, a large ensemble
- 6:29cast, but I'm only gonna focus on two people right now.
- 6:32We can talk about other ones. Maybe that drew your eye in the
- 6:37cast, but we have Ji Song as Zhang Jakyong.
- 6:40He's the cop. He's been married to actress
- 6:43Eboo Yong since 2013. They've been dating since 2007.
- 6:47I hear from people in my DMS that this is a nice couple, that
- 6:52they are, you know, well liked, well respected in the industry.
- 6:56I have watched her in some dramas as well.
- 7:00Ji Song has 6 movies to his name, 23 TV shows to his name
- 7:03including Adamas the Devil, Judge, Doctor John, Familiar
- 7:07Wife, Kill Me Heal me. Would you believe me if I said
- 7:10this is my very first G Song drama?
- 7:14Yes, I actually would. Yeah, yeah, 'cause I also have
- 7:19not watched a lot of his famous ones.
- 7:21Like again, the Devil Judge has been on my list to check out
- 7:25forever. I still haven't clicked play, so
- 7:28I actually am not really surprised by that.
- 7:31Yeah, here's what I'll say about G Song.
- 7:33I have always known of his existence.
- 7:37I know of his, you know, career. I have seen the posters, I've
- 7:43seen the trailers for his shows and have just never, ever felt
- 7:47the urge to press play on anything, whether it be the plot
- 7:52is kind of like I never felt drawn to any of his projects.
- 7:56And maybe it's because in his younger years, I kind of didn't,
- 8:00I think he looked very attractive.
- 8:03This sounds weird to say because he's not ugly to me.
- 8:06I just don't maybe. And I said this in Adm to
- 8:09somebody because they were talking about how hot he is.
- 8:11And I was like, he looks like a gecko to me.
- 8:13Like, you know, some people just have a look to them and there's
- 8:17no rhyme or reason. You're just like, that person
- 8:19reminds me of a llama. And like you're just like,
- 8:21there's no, it's, it's irrational.
- 8:23Geez. It just looks like a gecko, a
- 8:25very angular gecko face to me. And again, a very rational
- 8:32thought. I have no beef at all with G
- 8:35Song. However, I thought in connection
- 8:40him being, oh, what is he like in his 40s now?
- 8:43Has he has to be like in his 40s him, in his 40s him?
- 8:49With he's almost 50. He's 48.
- 8:51Oh, 48. OK, so he's 48.
- 8:54He's 48. OK, so he's 48 years old.
- 8:59And him with the police. Get up with the chunky black
- 9:03jacket. Listen to me.
- 9:06I was salivating. I was like, this is it like, I
- 9:10love this look. I thought he was so hot.
- 9:14Sorry. Like, sue me.
- 9:15I thought he looked so attractive in connection.
- 9:19Maybe it's just, you know, age meeting the right aesthetic
- 9:25look, right? I don't know.
- 9:28I don't know. But him and connection really
- 9:31connected with me. Nice one.
- 9:35Nice one. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:37OK so his main Co star is Chon me though she plays O Yunjin.
- 9:41Quickly going back the the dramas I have seen him in Oh
- 9:45yes, please were well, obviously kill me, heal me.
- 9:49That's like one of his most famous roles ever.
- 9:52I don't remember much of it, but I definitely have watched it.
- 9:58And then I've watched most of like his more crazier dramas
- 10:01like secret, which is like a Uber mahjong crazy, crazy drama,
- 10:07which I probably need to rewatch.
- 10:09Defendant I've watched is a unbelievably good crime drama
- 10:15like this is probably defendants my second favorite role of his,
- 10:20but it's one of those like really, really well acclaimed
- 10:25crime dramas and he's the star of it.
- 10:27And then that's pretty much it. That's I've like watched a
- 10:30really, really classic and then some more classic but crazier,
- 10:34crazier dramas of his. Any of his more recent ones I
- 10:38have not though. OK, OK, I thought you might have
- 10:40watched some recent ones. The one that I almost feel like
- 10:43I was closest to pressing play on was Familiar Wife.
- 10:47Yeah, I've heard. I've heard good things, like if
- 10:50it's a genre that works for you, it's just not a genre that works
- 10:54for me. So I didn't click play on.
- 10:56Yeah, I've always wanted to watch Adamus, but I have.
- 10:59It's one of those things where I haven't heard anybody talk about
- 11:03the show, so I don't know if it's good or bad.
- 11:06Which means I should probably just check it out, because
- 11:08again, connection no one was talking about.
- 11:10It true. The thing is, I think when no
- 11:12one talks about shows and we're like, man, I wonder if it's any
- 11:16good, you're looking at the people who should be watching it
- 11:19then. Because I think at this point,
- 11:21we're the people who are checking out shows and telling
- 11:26others. That they should have watched.
- 11:27Them or not. Also, for like the longest time,
- 11:30Adamus wasn't available anywhere in the United States.
- 11:32It is now available, but it took at least a year, if not longer,
- 11:37for it to become available overseas.
- 11:38Yeah, that's the thing too, is that a lot of shows, especially
- 11:41older ones, may or may not be available in your region through
- 11:45reputable means. So you know G Song?
- 11:48Also G Song has been famous for a really long time.
- 11:52Really long time. And I feel like a lot of people
- 11:55might not know him. Right.
- 11:58Yeah, yeah, because it's not necessarily he doesn't, he
- 12:01hasn't like stepped back from making noise.
- 12:04I think he makes at least like once A1A year.
- 12:06He already has one lined up for next year.
- 12:08I don't think it's coming out this year, but he's not a
- 12:12traffic star per SE anymore, whereas back in the day he was.
- 12:18I mean, I wouldn't say he lost any of his fame because as you
- 12:23said, he's he and his wife are very beloved in Korea and they
- 12:26go on variety shows all the time, especially the married
- 12:29ones. But I would say he's not the
- 12:32traffic star that he was 15 years ago or something.
- 12:36Right, right. So that's Jason.
- 12:38His Co star John Middo plays Oyunjin and she's only been in
- 12:44like 4 dramas and I remember covering her in Hospital
- 12:49Playlist. This is where people will know
- 12:51her best from. She's the neurosurgeon in
- 12:54Hospital Playlist one and two, she has a background in theatre.
- 12:59Hospital Playlist was basically her first major TV role and
- 13:03obviously she can actually sing in real life.
- 13:05She was in 39 in 2022 and I was pleasantly surprised to see her
- 13:12in episode 1 of Connection and she plays just a huge role
- 13:18throughout the show. What do you What is your
- 13:20experience with John Nido? So I started watching 39 but I
- 13:25eventually dropped it. So that is my, that was my only
- 13:29prior experience of her. And of course I've heard of
- 13:33Hospital Playlist, but that's not a genre I will ever watch,
- 13:36so I'm never going to be watching that.
- 13:38Yeah, but. Medical slice of life, right?
- 13:43I can't imagine that you'd press clay on that.
- 13:45Right, I actually did try just because I was curious about it
- 13:49and I was like Nope I need like trauma code version of medical
- 13:53show, not this. Not this.
- 13:55It's so light and sweet and they're singing and it's like,
- 13:58OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:02So yeah, this is really my first full drama I have watched of
- 14:05her. She was great in 39.
- 14:07I did like her character in 39 but the story just didn't work
- 14:10for me. OK, yeah, it didn't work for a
- 14:13lot of people. I I never.
- 14:14Yeah, I know that a lot of people dropped that drop.
- 14:16A lot of people were bitching about that show anyway, So tell
- 14:20me though is in this show and is there anybody else that you
- 14:24wanted to cover from the? Yeah, I want to touch base on
- 14:28Quan Yul. OK, OK, Talk to me about South.
- 14:31He plays Pactigeon. Yes.
- 14:34And the the reason I want to point him out is he had a really
- 14:37big year last year. Oh.
- 14:39Did he? Yeah, he he's always been
- 14:41around. He's always been supporting
- 14:43characters and kind of just showing up everywhere.
- 14:47I mean, he was in voice, he was in Connection, he was in Dolly
- 14:52and the Cocky Prince. Like he he's been acting for a
- 14:55while, but last year it seemed like he was consecutively in a
- 15:00drama like all year. So last year he was in frankly
- 15:05speaking, which was just a guess role and that aired.
- 15:09It was in May. So around the same time of
- 15:11connection, then he did connection, then he did Sweet
- 15:15Mobster, which he was ironically also a prosecutor, I think.
- 15:21Because he did it so well. Yeah, and I think Sweet Mobster,
- 15:25like, aired right after this. Like it was connection and then
- 15:29it was Sweet Mobster. Yeah.
- 15:31And then he showed up in Cinderella at 2:00 AM.
- 15:33It was only a couple, like a guest role for a couple
- 15:35episodes, but he was consistently on people's TV.
- 15:39Screens for like. Six months.
- 15:41That's the way you got to do. It right, which that was a lot
- 15:45for him. He only does like two or three
- 15:48or one or two dramas a year. If you look at his MDL.
- 15:52So like to have three dramas was a lot.
- 15:56And so I remember just, I remember when I was commenting
- 16:00of like, wow, he's doing a lot this year.
- 16:03And it's like good roles, like it's ones that people remember
- 16:06him if they were watching. Every voice.
- 16:10Yeah, that's where I know him from.
- 16:12I was introduced to him in the Voice franchise, which they're
- 16:16making my. Fairly from 2009.
- 16:19Oh yeah. Dude.
- 16:21Oh, he was in Let's Eat too. No wonder I thought he looked
- 16:23familiar. Anyway, so that's our cast.
- 16:27Anybody else that you wanted to talk about?
- 16:29Well, you have Kim, King Nam, who people love and know very
- 16:34well, and then you. Have I didn't know.
- 16:37I mean, I know that he, I was surprised he was in this cast
- 16:41because he hadn't done a drama in three years like this was,
- 16:46and I couldn't remember if it was because he did the.
- 16:49Military. Or he just was.
- 16:51Where Stars Land, About Time, Come and hug me, Prison
- 16:54Playbook. So I remember him from Prison
- 16:55Playbook, which there's an episode on that.
- 16:58Yeah, and Come and Hug me was a very prominent role for him too.
- 17:02He was also in defendant. He was, You just mentioned
- 17:05defending. He was defended as CL's
- 17:07secretary. I don't know.
- 17:10Yes, yeah. And so, yeah, this was a this
- 17:13was a surprise to me because like, he hadn't done the drama
- 17:15in three years. And I was like, oh, you're in
- 17:17this drama. Interesting.
- 17:19OK. And it was a role I had never
- 17:21seen him do because I don't want to do spoilers, so I'm not going
- 17:25to say what his role was. We'll be doing that later.
- 17:27And then the last person I want to mention is Jung Yu Min.
- 17:30She was the lead from my perfect My perfect Marriage Revenge,
- 17:36which again, like my perfect marriage revenge was her like
- 17:40comeback drama. She hadn't been in the drama for
- 17:43years. And then she pops up in this and
- 17:46I'm like, oh, you're like riding that wave.
- 17:48Like people were excited to see her because they had just come
- 17:52off of perfect marriage revenge, which she was excellent in and I
- 17:57think she was excellent in this one.
- 17:59So I find that it's I, it's funny that like a, a bunch of
- 18:03these support characters have been acting for a really long
- 18:06time and kind of use this as a comeback.
- 18:09It was. A nice vehicle for everybody.
- 18:12Yeah, because it like it was an ensemble drama.
- 18:15Like obviously, yes, it was about G Song and the trio of him
- 18:20and we'll get into that. But like the the other
- 18:22supporting characters that you had still had pretty prominent
- 18:27roles in this. Yeah, no, because how of how
- 18:30well written it was. Right, right.
- 18:33Yeah, so. I just wanted to point that out,
- 18:35all right? Do we want to go into the awards
- 18:40it got? Oh, sure.
- 18:42Really quick OK, so I'm if people don't know I, I watch all
- 18:47of the Korean drama awards on New Year's Day, like I'm
- 18:51marathon them and that is like how I start out my year every
- 18:55single year. I've been doing it for five
- 18:56years. So I watch the SBS, I watch the
- 18:59like the three major networks. So this one, this is.
- 19:03SBS. This is SBS so Jung me Do won
- 19:07the top Excellence Award for a specialized genre or action
- 19:11miniseries, and I want to say this was like her first award
- 19:14she had ever won ever She. Barely has a career.
- 19:17Not that she barely has a career.
- 19:19She barely has a resume, especially compared to a lot of
- 19:23the cast. Yeah, like this is the same
- 19:25network that aired Flex Cop and Good Partner.
- 19:28Yeah. So like Good Partner was winning
- 19:30a lot of awards. The judge from Hell was the same
- 19:33network, Fiery Prince was the same network.
- 19:36So let's see Kuan Yu one as a supporting actor, Kim Kyung Nam
- 19:431, You Some Bong 1 and Jung Yu Min all one for best supporting
- 19:48actor. So basically all the friends and
- 19:53Kimmy Ju won best new actor Kimmin Ju, which is one of the
- 19:59high school students. With.
- 20:01The one of the actors who played the high school students and
- 20:03then it won best drama of the year.
- 20:06Like it won the big, big award for the drama thing.
- 20:11Obviously G Sum was up for day song, but he didn't win.
- 20:14It was good partner, which made sense.
- 20:17But yes, these award shows kind of are like everybody gets an
- 20:21award type of thing. But that's how I feel like I
- 20:24never it was. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:25I never report on that. I know everybody wins one.
- 20:30Yes, it would be as if a network, as if The CW was giving
- 20:34out awards for all The CW shows that aired that year.
- 20:39And it's like, OK, it's just a pat on the back of the network.
- 20:43So I never kind of put stock in those.
- 20:45But yeah, absolutely. I feel like these people are
- 20:48definitely deserved some recognition, especially at the
- 20:51larger award ceremonies like Pak Song and the Blue Dragon Awards
- 20:56and stuff like that. The but they it did not.
- 20:59Right, it didn't. But what I will say though is
- 21:02given the competition of last year for SBS with good partner
- 21:06everything, I was surprised they even got awards because good
- 21:10partner with the ratings. This did really good in Korea,
- 21:13but good partner, like swept it out of like swept everything.
- 21:18So I wasn't expecting anybody to get awards at all, let alone be
- 21:22nominated so. Yeah, I was looking at the
- 21:24ratings for it and it was good for basically consistently
- 21:28second place in Seoul and nationwide.
- 21:31And so I was like, well, that that's not bad at all.
- 21:33It was, it ended up with like 14% of viewership.
- 21:38So that's fantastic for what it is, and considering nobody in
- 21:42the international audience or the international sphere was
- 21:45necessarily talking about it. So this show did fairly well.
- 21:50So yeah, I'm going to switch gears and ask you, what did you
- 21:54think of Connection? I think everybody knows what he
- 21:56thought generally, but you know, please, in your own words.
- 22:01So for me, it's nearly a perfect crime drama.
- 22:04For me, there was one thing at the end I did not like and I did
- 22:08not think was necessary. We can get into that, but I can
- 22:12ignore that one thing. So I will say it's a 5 out of
- 22:16five for me. I, I can, it wasn't necessary.
- 22:20I could have done without it. Rewatching it, I kind of
- 22:23understood more why they put it in there.
- 22:26But my first like watch of this, I was like, oh, why are we
- 22:30adding this thing? It's not needed, blah blah blah.
- 22:33I gave it a 9.5 out of 10 due to that small minuscule thing that
- 22:37they added at the end. I can ignore that now, but I say
- 22:41it's 5 out of 5 for me. Wow, so you're already giving it
- 22:445 out of five toju bottles and you have very minuscule
- 22:50complaints about it? Yes.
- 22:52OK, Yep, Yep. All right, I will go ahead and
- 22:56say I fucking love this show. I had a fantastic time with this
- 22:59show. I was messaging you throughout
- 23:02my watch in all caps. I was sending you really
- 23:06panicked messages because the experience of watching this was
- 23:11second to none. This was a wild, wild ride.
- 23:16It was a Mr. A murder mystery. It was a crime thriller.
- 23:21It was a noir. It was just the seedy, underbill
- 23:27corruption. It was everything all at once.
- 23:30It wasn't just one thing. And I loved this paranoia, like
- 23:35running through it because of Chi Song's character, not
- 23:40knowing who to trust, not knowing who got him addicted to
- 23:43drugs and who knows and you know all these things.
- 23:49Who can he trust? And I love the the concept of
- 23:54ethics and morality in not just the police force, but also in
- 23:58journalism with Tonido's character of Eunjin.
- 24:03I love that. I loved the friends group, who
- 24:09is the one that kind of like received all the awards.
- 24:11You named all the actors, but that ensemble group.
- 24:16Really cool to see them in action and to see how all of the
- 24:20roles are split up because they each have a function within the
- 24:24group and you're not quite sure what they do until like, because
- 24:28it plays out right. Like you're just not everything
- 24:31is given to you all at the same time.
- 24:32And I love that. I love how they're it's drip
- 24:35drip instead of drip marketing drip storytelling you.
- 24:38Basically find out when the characters find out, which is in
- 24:42my in my opinion, the best way to do a crime show.
- 24:45Yes, yes. And everybody knows, not
- 24:49everybody, but I would say a vast majority of people who
- 24:52consume Korean dramas and Asian media kind of understand
- 24:58implicitly that Korea has some of the strictest narcotics laws
- 25:04and are the hardest on drugs. If you do drugs outside of Korea
- 25:09and you come back, they can still pick you up for that.
- 25:11They will still go after you for that.
- 25:13People have gone down. People have committed suicide
- 25:15over getting drug allegations thrown at them, right?
- 25:19It is like a death sentence for your career in Korea.
- 25:22If you are some sort of entertainer and you get caught
- 25:25up in drug allegations and the fact that this is a narcotics
- 25:29unit and the cop is the one that got addicted, I Oh my God, I was
- 25:34like living. I remember when they announced
- 25:37this story and I was like, how the hell are they going to pull
- 25:40that off? Because I know, like, just from
- 25:43what you said just now, like they have the strictest drug
- 25:46laws. How is that going to be received
- 25:48by the public who's grown up in this society that has a very
- 25:51strict drug law? Because in like America, we have
- 25:55drugs in our shows all the time. It comes to like, because it's
- 25:59kind of dude. Your neighbor down the street
- 26:00is. Addicted to drugs?
- 26:02Exactly. Yeah, and they have a full time
- 26:04job. They they pay their bills on
- 26:06time. Like it's crazy here in America.
- 26:09Yeah, so I thought they pulled it off very well.
- 26:12It like exceeded my expectations just because I didn't really
- 26:15know what to expect. Yes, yes, there is so much
- 26:19anxiety in this show. I love the reveals.
- 26:23The cliffhangers at the end of every episode had me pressing
- 26:27place it's so freaking hard. Imagine me watching this week by
- 26:31week. Oh no.
- 26:31I don't know how you did it. I do not know how you did it
- 26:35because it was so compelling. It was so engaging.
- 26:39I was guessing different things. I had all these theories and
- 26:42then all this at the same time. I was like, I don't even know.
- 26:44Live and let God like I don't even know.
- 26:47Right, I just. Let him go.
- 26:49I likened the experience of watching this to watching Uncut
- 26:54Gems or Uncut Gems the Julia Fox audio.
- 27:02My sister reminded me of it the other day.
- 27:05Anyway, Unka Gems for those who don't know, is an Adam Sandler
- 27:08movie that is not a typical Adam Sandler movie.
- 27:11Like he could have been nominated for an Oscar for it.
- 27:14It is an anxiety inducing ride that does not let up on the gas
- 27:20pedal I had to put. I told you this yesterday when
- 27:23we were recording. I had to put my head between my
- 27:26legs at the end of the the theater showing when I watch
- 27:31Uncut Gems because I was like hyperventilate.
- 27:32I like could not stop my heart from pounding out of my chest
- 27:36after Uncut Gems. So that's how I felt watching
- 27:40Connection, and I was so thrilled with every part of it.
- 27:47I do have, like, little qualms with it, but for the most part,
- 27:50I loved it the way that it was filmed.
- 27:53Oh my gosh, yeah. My gosh.
- 27:57I thought it was so well done. It was visceral and tactile.
- 28:03The experience, watching him struggle with his addiction and
- 28:06with the withdrawal symptoms, him stumbling around,
- 28:10collapsing, disorientation, headaches, extreme sweating.
- 28:13He was pale. Like all these things were also
- 28:17told visually, like on screen and the way that it was shot.
- 28:22I keep saying like the way it was shot, the way that it was
- 28:24edited. They had like first person POV
- 28:27shots. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:29I love those like every time they do this I'm like, this is
- 28:31entirely effective every time. Gives you that disorienting
- 28:35effect of losing control, losing your balance.
- 28:37There's a shot, and this isn't necessarily a spoiler, but
- 28:40there's a shot of CEO Yoon. She has like a, a person behind
- 28:45her comes out from a hidden door behind her, looking kind of
- 28:49haggard and blocking what's in the room behind him because it's
- 28:52like a hidden door that he emerges from.
- 28:54And when he moves out of the doorway, it reveals what's
- 28:59behind him in the room. And it's a body that's hanging.
- 29:03It's a man strung up, evidently being tortured.
- 29:06And it is so shocking. That's a visual shock to the
- 29:09audience, right? I love when they set up things
- 29:12like that. Right.
- 29:14And it gives you a like she already had a presence, but this
- 29:18adds to. Yes.
- 29:20Her presence and her lore of her character.
- 29:23Exactly. I loved it.
- 29:25It was she was so nonchalant, like she was in the foreground,
- 29:28just really chill. And this is happening behind
- 29:31her, some sort of henchman evidently killing or torturing
- 29:35somebody in this hidden room behind her.
- 29:36I'm like, Oh my God, this adds so much.
- 29:39But I love the editing and the blocking of that.
- 29:41There's an elevator shot of the prosecuted character and G Song
- 29:47and G Song is behind and the prosecutors in the foreground
- 29:50and they do deep focus photography.
- 29:52I love when they do deep focus photography where it's both
- 29:56characters or both people. Foreground and background are
- 29:59both in focus. That's where deep focus comes
- 30:02from. And it's very Hitchcockian,
- 30:06right? Hitchcock used to do this all
- 30:07the time. And you see the stressed dipshit
- 30:10prosecutor asking questions and nervous and then answering these
- 30:16questions back to G Song, who's behind him.
- 30:20You understand implicitly that the male lead G Song has the
- 30:23upper hand, right? Right.
- 30:26Yeah. It's just so effective.
- 30:28They changed the aspect ratio for flashbacks.
- 30:32They narrowed it with the bigger.
- 30:34Color grading too. And the integrating too.
- 30:37Yeah, bigger letterbox lettering on the top and bottom.
- 30:40Oh my God, just so expertly done.
- 30:43I loved everything about it. So I love that the show was
- 30:46constantly surprising you and subverting exectations because
- 30:51it wasn't just like twist. It was like, oh, and here's
- 30:54something else about this character that you didn't know.
- 30:57Right, yeah, it reminded me of AI mean we I know Liliana has
- 31:02talked about this show and I also have talked about this
- 31:05show, but murder in something something tower.
- 31:11It's the Chinese crime show. I can't remember it, but it this
- 31:14is the same thing is like all the episode.
- 31:16The first episode is a perspective one person and then
- 31:21you learn something about something from that perspective.
- 31:24And then they the next episode goes to the next perspective,
- 31:27you learn something new and it goes on like that.
- 31:30This, this is kind of it's not explicitly like that in
- 31:33connection, but it I felt like it was like that because you
- 31:37again are learning as Joo Sung finds things out or Jung Bido's
- 31:41character finds things out. And then that show you learn as
- 31:45the cops who are investigating find things out.
- 31:47So it's the same thing. Yeah.
- 31:49Anything else you wanted to add before I I don't want to say too
- 31:51much else, I kind of just want to get into spoilers.
- 31:54Well, what's your what's your rating?
- 31:58I would probably do five. I would also probably do 5 cool
- 32:025 out of five hold you bottles because I loved it.
- 32:06So you're like me, like you had some qualms with it, but like
- 32:09you could overlook them. I can and still give.
- 32:11Five out of five. Just such a ride.
- 32:14Yeah, yeah. Such a ride.
- 32:16And I, my sister, I think she was downstairs as I was watching
- 32:20some episodes yesterday and she goes, I heard you earlier and I
- 32:25was like, what do you mean? She's like, I heard you watching
- 32:27that show. I heard you go.
- 32:28I knew it from all the way upstairs.
- 32:33I'm screaming. I knew it and like just it was
- 32:37such a great watch experience and my only fear is that if I go
- 32:42and rewatch it, it won't live up to the first time I watch it
- 32:47because I already know what's coming.
- 32:50Maybe you can speak to this because you've rewatched.
- 32:52It I would say, I would say to some extent, yes, because yeah,
- 32:56like part of the first time watches, like you don't know
- 32:58what's coming, but you will notice other things that you
- 33:02might have missed. Like I said, I did, I still
- 33:06disliked the one thing in the end, but I noticed something
- 33:10about it that I didn't realize in the first watch that made me
- 33:16dislike it a little less. I still disliked it, but still.
- 33:21So I would say if you want to rewatch this, give it time
- 33:26though, because you might forget some of the details, you know,
- 33:29because I I for sure did, even though I just watched this last
- 33:32year. I was like, Oh yeah, that's
- 33:33right. That's how this played out.
- 33:35Yeah. So, but yeah, I it definitely
- 33:38you lose that shock factor a lot of the time.
- 33:43What are some comps maybe that people, if they're on the fence
- 33:47about watching it, if they've watched these other shows or
- 33:50they like to these other shows, then definitely.
- 33:54Watch connection. That's a hard question because
- 33:56again, this is like the first ever like drug drama.
- 34:00I've like drum K drama. I've ever watched defendant.
- 34:07I will always say defendant like it's just such a good crime
- 34:11drought and it's one of those things again, where it's like
- 34:14it's revealed after and after and after that.
- 34:18Trying to think of ones that would be like shock value.
- 34:21I kind of thought stranger was a little bit.
- 34:23Stranger would fit in there. The Memorist probably is a good
- 34:27one that's like a little underrated, but it definitely
- 34:31went places that I didn't think it would go.
- 34:35I would say voice to an extent like that was a pretty.
- 34:39It's visceral in the way that this show is visceral.
- 34:43It is definitely gory and things this isn't as gory as voice at
- 34:47all. Yeah, I would say that if you're
- 34:50afraid of blood and guts and butchering of people, really
- 34:55this, this show doesn't have that at all.
- 34:57Right. But yeah, I would say like
- 34:59defendant if you're looking for like the shock value, Stranger
- 35:02if you're looking for like the corruption part of it, voice if
- 35:07you're just looking for a classic crime drama.
- 35:10Yeah, yeah. Those are three I can think off
- 35:12of the top of my head. I'd add signal for like just a
- 35:15fantastical. Yeah.
- 35:17Supernatural side of yeah crime fighting anyway we're going to
- 35:21break for spoilers and talk about everything that happens in
- 35:24connection and I can't wait to do it we're going to get back to
- 35:28it right after this excuse me I. Can't tell.
- 35:33I can't tell you know I have no signal.
- 35:36Oh sorry, swear. Discussing what?
- 35:46All right, we're on the other side of spoilers.
- 35:47We really have not talked about any details regarding
- 35:52connection. If you do not want to be
- 35:55spoiled, you need to stop now, watch the show and come back
- 35:57later. If you don't care, if you want
- 36:00to spoil yourself, then fine, keep listening.
- 36:03Or if you've watched, then of course, keep listening.
- 36:06All right, the first surprise that I've wanted to talk about
- 36:10was that. I'm diving in, right?
- 36:12I'm. Diving right the fucking so join
- 36:15me though, who is you know the basically the one of the only
- 36:18female characters in the show. She was our hospital playlist
- 36:21girl. Maybe we'll just call her
- 36:22hospital playlist journalist girl.
- 36:25You see her in episode 1. Yunjin is the name of the
- 36:29character and I was jaw on the floor because she is a corrupt
- 36:39journalist who takes bribes and can be bought.
- 36:43She's even extorting money from the guy sitting across from her
- 36:47who's like some representative from some company there who's
- 36:50done some wrong and I. Was.
- 36:53Shocked, because let me tell you something, she's like an Angel.
- 36:57In a. Hospital playlist An Angel.
- 37:01So to see her in the show was a shock to the system.
- 37:07I loved how morally Gray she was.
- 37:10Yeah, and she's consistently morally Gray.
- 37:13It wasn't like just that scene. No, I remember being so angry at
- 37:18her character. Something really especially
- 37:21well, especially when she like is literally actually thinking
- 37:26about. Well, First off, yes, I realized
- 37:29she had problems with her ex and money problems and whatever.
- 37:34But like when she was actively thinking about the money and
- 37:38then trying to go to Kwan Yul's character and gets attacked with
- 37:42that. And I'm just like you creedy son
- 37:46of a bee. Like I remember being so angry
- 37:50in those types of scenes because it was consistent throughout the
- 37:53show. She was constantly thinking
- 37:56about money and constantly bringing it up and constantly
- 37:59trying to find a way to make to blackmail these people and to
- 38:03get more money out of them. Yes.
- 38:05Yeah. Yeah, the only reason why she
- 38:07joins hands with Chi Song is that there's a potential that
- 38:11she could get the insurance money right if they prove the
- 38:15murder versus the suicide. Yeah, she gets a payout.
- 38:20And I was like, Oh my God, I loved it.
- 38:25I loved it. Like this is, it's such an
- 38:29interesting complex character, let alone all the other
- 38:33characters too. But her as a mother, they keep
- 38:36harkening back to this, that she is separated from her daughter
- 38:40who's living in Canada with her like shitty ex.
- 38:43And she keeps having to send her whole paycheck and all of this
- 38:46alimony and like money and child support to Canada for her
- 38:50daughter. And she misses her and wants her
- 38:53back in Korea to live with her. And everything that she's doing
- 38:56is so that she can bring her back to Korea.
- 38:58I totally understand that, totally understand that.
- 39:01But she is also just kind of despicable.
- 39:05Yeah, yeah. And I love that.
- 39:08Yeah, it's a very, very fun character to watch.
- 39:14Like, because on one hand she is like, yeah, on one hand, you do
- 39:17root for her. You know that she's like, she
- 39:19may be despicable, but the people they're fighting against
- 39:22is are. Even more.
- 39:23Despicable. So like, you're like, OK, pick
- 39:26the the lesser of two evils here.
- 39:29Exactly. You know, yeah, like, she may be
- 39:31greedy. She may be all for the money.
- 39:33She would never go and murder some people.
- 39:36The other people are greedy, corrupt and would murder people
- 39:39on a dime. Right, Right.
- 39:42Yeah. I, I loved that.
- 39:44That was the initial subversion was that most audience members
- 39:48would see her as a hospital playlist girl.
- 39:51They barely see her in a drama. They've seen her in 39, they've
- 39:54seen her in hospital playlist. That's pretty much it.
- 39:57I think One other mother, I think she was in as like a.
- 40:00Maybe a sporting role? But she is fairly clean.
- 40:03She does not have history, right?
- 40:07She doesn't have baggage like G Song may have baggage like
- 40:10people have seen him on television.
- 40:12They see him in the variety shows.
- 40:13They know who his wife is. They don't know about her as
- 40:17much. They know has a hospital
- 40:18playlist. But they've seen her singing.
- 40:20They see her in a group, you know, right?
- 40:22And I love that they played off of that because she's so great
- 40:29and she's so greedy in the show, right?
- 40:34You're just taken aback immediately.
- 40:35You're like, wait, wait a minute, wait a minute.
- 40:38Yeah, and it's interesting to see her just to this.
- 40:41What is the word just next to, I'll say that next to G, son,
- 40:46because G overall being a cop is the more goody 2 shoes of the
- 40:54show. Super righteous.
- 40:56Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:56But then you have the third of their trio who's like, really,
- 41:01really, really righteous. Oh my God.
- 41:03He's like a regular dude. Yeah, he's a regular guy who
- 41:06like, just thinks everybody is good and like, would never do
- 41:10anything and is constantly shocked that people would lie to
- 41:13him. Right.
- 41:14He's like, you guys did this without me, like he's just a
- 41:17puppy dog. I thought he was a dog.
- 41:19Here's my thing. I thought he was going to be
- 41:22evil in some way, shape or form. Same.
- 41:24Same. OK, yeah.
- 41:26But then he became too much of the Comic Relief.
- 41:28Or like, they're not going to make this guy evil.
- 41:31Like it it fell back on the cliche puppy cop being the evil
- 41:34person, one of the evil people. Yes, yes, because either when
- 41:38you have a puppy cop, either they're dead by episode 12 or
- 41:42they turn out to be a betrayer and end up taking a bribe or
- 41:46doing something. That's one of the two cliches of
- 41:49a crime drama. OK, so the the moment when they
- 41:55find the dead and putured body of the third beneficiary in the
- 42:01insurance policy, it was like a pharmaceuticals researcher who
- 42:06presumably concocted the new drug.
- 42:09Yeah, the lemon Mulberry drug. Yes, the lemon Mulberry.
- 42:12Well, he, he concocted the original iteration like, yeah,
- 42:17the the first version of it, yeah.
- 42:20Yeah, I love this part, too, because they found his body and
- 42:23they're like, it was frozen, but then they thawed it out and they
- 42:26put it in back in his house. And they left all of this, like,
- 42:29paraphernalia around to make it seem like he was related to the
- 42:32audiophile group. Like, we were going to find this
- 42:34body. And then these Molotov cocktails
- 42:37start flying in the house. And I'm like, what is going on?
- 42:42Destroying all this evidence, trying to kill them.
- 42:44Obviously, that was another big, you know, surprise because now
- 42:50there's some sort of dissension in the ranks of the evil people
- 42:54who are out here killing drug engineers and putting them back
- 42:59in their houses. Someone put the body there for
- 43:02them to find and someone is trying to kill them.
- 43:04Right. So I just.
- 43:07The wheels are started falling off.
- 43:09Yes, yes, yeah. I love when you figure out that
- 43:14someone deleted the footage of him taking Lemon Mulberry in the
- 43:17police precinct. Oh my God, that gave me OK, so
- 43:22the the the parts that gave me anxiety for a lot is when he was
- 43:27high. Well, not high.
- 43:28He was going through a withdrawal looking for a drug in
- 43:32the police station. Yes, like that was the most
- 43:35anxiety inducing parts because it happened multiple times.
- 43:38It wasn't just like once. It was like multiple times
- 43:42because obviously he's a cop. So he's not only avoiding his
- 43:45own unit. There's also there's other
- 43:48really annoying unit in the police station that is
- 43:51suspicious of him because they work for the corrupt dude.
- 43:54Prosecutor. That unit can suck ass.
- 43:57They. Were.
- 43:58Horrible. They had no integrity whatsoever
- 44:02and they were active. It looked like they were
- 44:04actively sabotaging their investigations in the drug.
- 44:08And even if they were asking seemingly innocent questions
- 44:12about their investigation, they were like, no, we're not going
- 44:15to share information. This isn't your.
- 44:17It was like all of this. Yeah.
- 44:19Territorial. They're so territorial now.
- 44:23I will say in real life that does happen in police stations.
- 44:27People can be very protective of their own cases because if they
- 44:32solve it, it will be like they'll get the credit, right?
- 44:35You're right. So, like, it made sense on some
- 44:38in terms of the territorialness of it.
- 44:41But what I was mad about is like, they just kept going at G
- 44:45Song the entire time, like being suspicious of him.
- 44:48Granted, yeah, he was going through withdrawal symptoms.
- 44:50Of course they were suspicious of him.
- 44:52But like the whole getting his hair at the end, I remember
- 44:56being so angry because I was like, that is totally illegal.
- 45:00What you just did. Yes, yes, good for them like
- 45:03calling them out, but I was just like, really dude, it's like
- 45:07you're already. Corrupt.
- 45:08I liked that. They're, I like that the unit
- 45:10chief for the narcotics unit was this older female.
- 45:15I was like, Oh yeah, I get it. Bitch loved her.
- 45:17Loved her? Sure.
- 45:19Always on his side, even if she didn't like understand, like she
- 45:22wasn't really involved in a lot of like decent stuff.
- 45:26But you know, the fact that she had such a position of authority
- 45:29and was on his side, especially in the latter episodes when it
- 45:33comes out that he's an addict and all this stuff, I was like,
- 45:35yes, like, she's amazing. Him going through the police
- 45:39station, trying to get to the one place where these drugs were
- 45:43stored because they found some, and then taking them.
- 45:46I was just like, Oh my God, you're going to get caught.
- 45:49Somebody's going to walk in. And then when they when the
- 45:51footage was erased, I was like, who the hell erased the footage
- 45:55for you? That was a that was a thing.
- 45:55That was what he's going on. It's because like the the
- 46:00episode like ends and you're like.
- 46:01Who the hell? Deleted the footage, who saw it,
- 46:05who helped him, who gave him the drugs?
- 46:08All these questions. Every and then you're like
- 46:10suspicious of everybody. Like it was.
- 46:12Just so well written because you did not know who the trust other
- 46:16than G Sung and then like you. I mean because like for
- 46:21instance, because Jung Migo was so corrupt in her own space, you
- 46:25couldn't honestly trust her for a lot of it too.
- 46:29And then like it, I mean, it was revealed that Jung SU Wan, like
- 46:32the the third of the trio, the the insurance person, he was
- 46:36talking to Jung me Dong, but never telling things to Gsong.
- 46:39And Gsong was talking to Jummy Doe and never telling things to
- 46:41him. Like, yeah, even though they
- 46:43were working together, no one was communicating because no one
- 46:45trusted anybody. Right.
- 46:48It was so great. But then you compare that to the
- 46:51villain group and they were doing the same bullshit they
- 46:54were. Same thing.
- 46:55Doing things. Two of them would do something
- 46:58and not tell the others, and then one of them would do
- 47:01something not to the others, and three of them would do something
- 47:03and not tell the others. It would breed all of this
- 47:06animosity between them, distrust in the group and the other group
- 47:12imploded before our, you know, quote, UN quote, good trio.
- 47:17Yeah, definitely. But.
- 47:19Yeah, but miscommunication was way worse on the villain side
- 47:22than it was on the side of truth.
- 47:24Justice in the American way. But the I loved when the that
- 47:31moment when he goes to see the CCTV footage and it's already
- 47:35been scrubbed. Such a great moment.
- 47:38I also loved when you found out that June So's widow and the
- 47:44prosecutor were in on it together and they were having an
- 47:49affair. Oh my God.
- 47:51Yeah. The affair reveal was so great
- 47:54because the prosecutor bust into her home.
- 47:57She opens the door like, hello, welcome to my home, like,
- 48:02nothing. And he comes busting and
- 48:05immediately starts strangling her.
- 48:07And you're like, Oh my God, what's going on?
- 48:09Why is he strangling her? When he stops strangling her,
- 48:13that's when it's revealed that they were having an affair.
- 48:19And they they, you know, they have all this history together
- 48:23and you're like, Oh my God, this bitch, this bitch, because you
- 48:27thought that she was this loyal wife, right?
- 48:30She didn't want her husband to have a big why on his chest from
- 48:36the autopsy that they were gunning for and stuff because
- 48:40she didn't want her husband to meet up with her daughter in the
- 48:43afterlife and like him have this.
- 48:46Scar. Scar, all this thing and I was
- 48:48like, this page was cheating on him the whole time.
- 48:53Oh my God right? I also love the scene where G
- 48:57Song was in her apartment and like basically questioning her
- 49:01but not officially questioning her.
- 49:03Yes, he was going through all of their home videos and footage
- 49:06trying to get some sort of. Evidence.
- 49:09And then he was leaving. He was leaving and the door and
- 49:14the door starts beeping. And I, I remember watching this
- 49:18like, OK, who the hell is on the other side of that door?
- 49:21It's prosecutors. And then all of a sudden it
- 49:23opens up the prosecutor and everybody just like phrases.
- 49:27And that's the end. That's the end of the episode.
- 49:31Yeah, like a lot of the cliffhangers were relationship,
- 49:34yeah, had to do like relational issues, right.
- 49:37And that that's another one. Is that the cliffhanger?
- 49:41Was he potentially could find out that they were having an
- 49:46affair because the prosecutor just knew the House code?
- 49:49Knew the house. Code and was walking into the
- 49:51widow's apartment and like what the fuck so yeah yeah I'm like
- 49:56breathing hard and everything over here the.
- 49:59The taxi driver? Yeah, the taxi driver.
- 50:03He was I. Thought shit.
- 50:04Crazy. Bat shit crip.
- 50:06Bat shit crazy. I thought he played bat shit
- 50:08crazy in Psychopath. So great.
- 50:13Like he was doing something with his jaw, like he would kind of
- 50:16like hang his jaw a certain way. And I don't even know how to
- 50:20describe it, but I was like, that's genius.
- 50:21He looks crazy. And then he had crazy eyes too.
- 50:25Yeah, of it. Yeah, He had really nice crazy.
- 50:27Eyes, but he could turn. Crazy eyes.
- 50:29Really good. Yeah, Definitely, definitely.
- 50:31Because there were some scenes where I was like, OK, he looks
- 50:33kind of sane here. Right.
- 50:35The other two were angry, but other than yeah, yeah, so.
- 50:39Great. Like when he was washing his
- 50:40hands of the blood in some public bathroom or whatever and
- 50:44the kid sees the blood, some child in the bathroom sees the
- 50:47blood and he makes eye contact with the kid.
- 50:50I was like, oh, there goes the kid.
- 50:52The kids going to tell. There goes the elementary school
- 50:55kid, because he looked at he looked crazy.
- 51:01He did. He did.
- 51:02Oh, so great. They revealed that the puppy dog
- 51:06police cop was in on it as well. Not in on it.
- 51:10When I say in on it, it's like in on something else.
- 51:12Like he knew CEO Yun, who was one of the distributors of Lemon
- 51:19Mulberry and was like a drug cartel leader in town.
- 51:24This was the stupidest part of the show though, because this
- 51:27guy really thought, he really thought that if he made a deal
- 51:32with this CEO Yun, a drug cartel leader, to keep the streets
- 51:40clean. OK, you take out some rival drug
- 51:43cartel, A rival drug family, and I, CEO Yun says.
- 51:48I will keep the streets clean. Right.
- 51:52Yeah, like you're. Why do you?
- 51:53Believe anything that's coming out of her mouth.
- 51:56The. Cop that E Chung SU, Detective E
- 51:59Chung SU. Stupid.
- 52:01He's stupid and then he would come to her and like be mad at
- 52:05her. Right.
- 52:06I was like, do you know who you're dealing with?
- 52:08Dude, you're going to end up in the Han River.
- 52:11Keep going right? It's great.
- 52:15It was just so like, why would he believe anything that she
- 52:19says? Right, exactly it.
- 52:21Just like. He was that cop was just in over
- 52:24his head. Well, it was the.
- 52:26Same thing with like so like. Another anxiety inducing part
- 52:29was when he was deleting the CCTV in her backroom.
- 52:33Of him, yes, yes, yes, yes. And I was.
- 52:35Just like you're doing this in front of everybody in the front
- 52:37room. Yeah.
- 52:38Yeah. Like, obviously he had to do it
- 52:40right then and there, but it was just like, oh, my God.
- 52:43But that was it was the same thing with when he drove the van
- 52:47into the lake. I was just like.
- 52:49The band in the lake was like such a oh, you talk about it,
- 52:54you talk about. It, it was just like, I mean, it
- 52:57was true for what they they said this beautifully in the show.
- 53:00It was just the things did not match up.
- 53:02The guy, the handcuffs being on handcuffed because when you have
- 53:07a suspect in the back, you usually handcuff them to
- 53:09something. So the fact that those were
- 53:11undone, the fact that the window was open when it drove in, how
- 53:15he easily was on shore already like, and things just did not
- 53:18match up. And I'm just like, you got you.
- 53:20Clearly this was impulsive. It was an impulsive decision.
- 53:23He didn't plan to do it because obviously the guy that they had
- 53:28just arrested threatened him to reveal everything.
- 53:31So he impulsively had to choose to kill the guy.
- 53:35But it was just you didn't think this through.
- 53:39You did not think any of this through, which matches the
- 53:42impulsiveness of the decision. But yeah, it's just you.
- 53:46Eventually we're going to get found.
- 53:48It was a matter of time. It was just Elaine the
- 53:51inevitable. And he really did not like he
- 53:54said. He just didn't think it through.
- 53:55He like lowered the window and like jerked the yeah.
- 53:59Honestly I thought the delivery bike kid was going to get in
- 54:04more trouble. I thought he was Juico.
- 54:07I thought he was Juico's fair kid for like the longest time.
- 54:14Like I bet it was obviously revealed it wasn't.
- 54:16But I was like, dude, this dude had an affair and his wife had
- 54:19an affair. Like everybody was cheating but
- 54:21that kid. Was old like he was like a.
- 54:25But they've been married teen like high school, they've been
- 54:28married for a really long time. Like they got together like
- 54:31right after. No, yeah.
- 54:34I. Think so and the why I.
- 54:35Think the yeah I think they were married for a while.
- 54:38No. I could be wrong, I don't know.
- 54:41Maybe they never said how long they were married.
- 54:43I don't know. But I thought that he was like a
- 54:45love child somewhere. I don't know.
- 54:48I I that never crossed my mind but wow.
- 54:52No they couldn't have done that because Chunzo had to stay this
- 54:55like perfect Angel of a of a dead person otherwise nobody
- 55:01would have done anything to prove who murdered him.
- 55:04He would have been also like an ambiguous villain in this whole
- 55:08thing, which we don't. I guess he gets a free pass for
- 55:13everything that he does. Hey, there's.
- 55:16Nobody that well, there's nobody that prosecute.
- 55:19Of course he does well like. Yeah, but I thought that
- 55:23delivery by kid was going to get in more trouble because he's the
- 55:26one that swapped the drugs. Right.
- 55:28Yeah. He does get run over in the
- 55:30rain. You thought he was going to get
- 55:32murdered at some point? But I thought he was going to
- 55:34get prosecuted. I thought he was going to get
- 55:36murked something because he swapped the drugs on the drug
- 55:40run that June so was supposed to do and he ended up killing the
- 55:45old lady with a brain tumor. Right.
- 55:47Right, because she got the wrong drugs.
- 55:50Yeah. Poor lady, you know.
- 55:52What I'm saying, I know it's crazy how this title connection
- 55:57has more than one meeting in this show.
- 55:59Yes. Because it's like the little
- 56:02intricate connections of the threads that revealed throughout
- 56:05this show, for one. Then it was like the
- 56:07relationships between everybody. Because one of the more
- 56:11surprising parts for me was when, when you first enter this
- 56:14show, you're like, OK, June So's an old high school friend who
- 56:20ends up dead. Like, that's it.
- 56:21I was like, OK, he's going to be he's going to be finding out who
- 56:24murdered this dude. And then he's always going to
- 56:27figure out who drugged him. Like, that was the story.
- 56:30And then as you go along, you realize that this had been
- 56:34stemming from high school, like these connections and these
- 56:38feelings and these relationships.
- 56:40And then you find out like, how deep this dude was, Jinso, the
- 56:44dead guy, how deep he was in Yeah, how deep he was in this
- 56:50and how everything was connected not only with the high school
- 56:52relationships, but also the evil squad over here who all knew
- 56:58each other in high school, were friends, were not technically
- 57:01friends with G Sung in high school, but like, knew each
- 57:03other in high school. And like how everything stemmed
- 57:07back to the high school, the incident that happened in the
- 57:09high school. And then just like it, all the
- 57:12threads just connected. I think I had questions about
- 57:15what happened in the flashbacks and what happened in high school
- 57:18because who the hell was the kid that they killed?
- 57:19I thought you would. So it basically it was just a
- 57:24kid they bullied as far as I remember.
- 57:26But they made it seem like that kid bullied 4 eyes.
- 57:31Maybe. Maybe I'm just not remembering
- 57:34that part. Because there was a scene where
- 57:36they were all together. All the bullies were together.
- 57:39I don't even know what's called him the Doom Squad.
- 57:41All the Doom Squad were together in a classroom.
- 57:44And they were like, hey, you got bullied again.
- 57:47And Four Eyes, the one who created Mulgarry in the future,
- 57:52He's sitting there with like a busted lip.
- 57:54Right. Yes, yes.
- 57:56So I'm like OK, did he get bullied by another kid?
- 58:00No, yeah, I think I, I think you're right.
- 58:03I think they bullied. I think it was bullied by that
- 58:05guy, or at least hit by that guy, right?
- 58:07Something about like, oh, you got your lunch money taken
- 58:09again. I don't even know if it was
- 58:10lunch money, but it was something.
- 58:13And then they went to go. Bullying to rough the guy up?
- 58:17Yeah, they went to rough the guy up.
- 58:19Yeah. And things went awry.
- 58:22Things did not go how they planned.
- 58:24So awry which number one? Number one, when they showed the
- 58:28debt, the guy that the kid that ends up dying and his friend in
- 58:33this, this traditional house has no running water, no
- 58:37electricity. Right.
- 58:38Even though it's wired for electricity because there is an
- 58:43on and off switch in the bathroom or a light.
- 58:46So that was strange. They spilled an obnoxious amount
- 58:49of gas on the ground. They did.
- 58:52They did. And they didn't seem fazed by
- 58:53it. I would have been freaking out.
- 58:56Yeah, because that's not. That's not a few drops of gas.
- 58:59No, it's not. No, it was a puddle.
- 59:01It was, it was a big, it was a whole.
- 59:03Last puddle of gas and then they just they just sit in it with a
- 59:07lighter and light up the grill. I was like no no no.
- 59:14Is this just because I'm older now or is this the stupidity of
- 59:18youth? Or are they just more stupid
- 59:22than usual? I I couldn't wrap my hand around
- 59:25why they would still can even if they spilled that much gas.
- 59:28You have move move away from the gas to light up the grill just.
- 59:35Yeah, the reveal of the fact that Jung SU Kim Kyung Nam's
- 59:41character. Yeah.
- 59:42Came back, Oh yes and killed the guy.
- 59:45He came back for his name tag that fell off at some point and
- 59:48then he beat him to death. Yeah, was like, Oh my God,
- 59:52'cause like, obviously he already killed the guy.
- 59:56Like, I see, I I was like, I was surprised because technically he
- 1:00:00already had killed the guy because he was going to die
- 1:00:03anyway from the injuries that he already had.
- 1:00:06Yeah, but. They cracked his skull open.
- 1:00:10Yeah, to add on that layer of viciousness and the layer of no
- 1:00:17one can touch me, no empathy, the inhumanity, like I'm the
- 1:00:21rich kid no one can touch even though I'm crazy high on drugs.
- 1:00:27I need a best friend hired by my father to like, keep me under
- 1:00:30wraps and keep me into control. Comes back and just with nobody
- 1:00:36else. So he just goes crazy and
- 1:00:39actually kills this guy. I was so surprised by that
- 1:00:43because I thought like, OK, this dude's already dead, like he
- 1:00:46killed them. But to add on that layer of
- 1:00:49viciousness and that layer to that character was the
- 1:00:52surprising part for me, not the fact that he came back.
- 1:00:57But no, no, it was the fact that he took a freaking.
- 1:00:59He doubled down. He doubled.
- 1:01:00Basically I was not expecting the double down.
- 1:01:03Oh, I see, I see, I see. OK, I guess I had a worse
- 1:01:07opinion of the character than you did, mostly because I don't
- 1:01:11know. I don't know.
- 1:01:12I just thought he was shit. He was shit.
- 1:01:14Of course he'd like finish it. And it wasn't because he it
- 1:01:19wasn't out of necessarily malice.
- 1:01:22No it wasn't. No it.
- 1:01:23Was out of fear, right? It was out of fear.
- 1:01:26And he had proven himself, even up to this point in the show,
- 1:01:29that he was a coward. Yeah, definitely, definitely.
- 1:01:32So it totally made sense to me that when he kind of came back
- 1:01:35to life and was begging for his life and was touching him and
- 1:01:39stuff, it scared him enough that he started to just beat him to
- 1:01:42death. So.
- 1:01:43Yeah, because he was afraid of his father.
- 1:01:46He's. He's afraid of consequences.
- 1:01:48Yeah. Yeah, not necessarily, you know,
- 1:01:51justice system consequences, his.
- 1:01:54Father, he was afraid of his father.
- 1:01:56Consequences. Yeah.
- 1:01:57Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:58So it totally made sense to me. I was as surprised in the
- 1:02:01slightest. I I don't think I even blinked
- 1:02:04harder during that far. I was like, Yep, here we go, the
- 1:02:09table doing more damage. Right, right.
- 1:02:14I thought the kid that was hiding in the bathroom though
- 1:02:16was June. So for like an episode?
- 1:02:20Yeah, that happened to me too. I thought it was June so far.
- 1:02:23Yeah, that was. Like, not clear who that kid
- 1:02:25was. Yeah, but speaking a word on the
- 1:02:28kids though, in the flashbacks they were excellent at
- 1:02:31portraying their characters and matching the adults
- 1:02:36performances. Yes, and I think they I.
- 1:02:39Don't know if you like. Had thoughts on that or?
- 1:02:41Picked up on that, but. Oh yeah, I thought they did very
- 1:02:43well. I also thought the likeness of
- 1:02:45them, too, They found kids that, like, obviously didn't 100%
- 1:02:49match, but like, matched enough, Yeah, that you knew exactly who
- 1:02:52each one of them were. Yeah.
- 1:02:54I thought that was impressive. So going back to I think it's
- 1:02:59episode 7. Yeah, Episode 7 our home girl
- 1:03:04get our home girl journalist hospital playlist girl, she gets
- 1:03:08abducted, like straight up abducted by the linebacker.
- 1:03:13Like I have no other way to describe.
- 1:03:15It's just like the. Muscle, the bodyguard.
- 1:03:17The bodyguard in the in the Dune squad.
- 1:03:21And they try. He tries to pay her off.
- 1:03:23He tries to blackmail her with all of this evidence that she's
- 1:03:28been bribed as a journalist for so long, and she ends up
- 1:03:34returning the payoff money. Yep.
- 1:03:36And she says I'm known in this field for easily accepting
- 1:03:39what's offered to me. Everyone will be tired of it.
- 1:03:43Hey, it would be worth a news article if a giraffe ate some
- 1:03:46meat. Who cares if a wolf has some
- 1:03:49meat? And I was like yes girl.
- 1:03:52Like she has some balls on her. Oh yeah.
- 1:03:55She has some balls on her. This was a very slow, slow
- 1:04:00journey back to being ethical and moral and somewhat
- 1:04:06journalistic integrity or just integrity period for this
- 1:04:10character and her valuing friendships and the chase, like
- 1:04:16the satisfaction of the chase of a story more than getting paid
- 1:04:22off. And the money aspect and her
- 1:04:25feeling the weight of what Chun so was unable to say to her when
- 1:04:31she last saw him before he died. So I really liked that about the
- 1:04:35show. And that was very slow because
- 1:04:38she, again, very morally Gray throughout the show.
- 1:04:41But, you know, talking about on the opposite side, the cop, our
- 1:04:46cop character from G Song, his journey is also interesting
- 1:04:51because besides the fact that he's dealing with all the
- 1:04:54addiction at the beginning of the show, he's like this
- 1:04:56independent cop who didn't believe in friendship anymore
- 1:05:01and was not relying on others and didn't trust people and was
- 1:05:05doing all of this on his own, you know, living on his own and,
- 1:05:10you know, trying to make it and rise up through the ranks all on
- 1:05:13his own. And by the end of the show, you
- 1:05:16realize that he he needed all of these people.
- 1:05:18He needed a tribe, right? It's about him learning to trust
- 1:05:23people again and, you know, have friends again, make friends.
- 1:05:27So I liked that journey as well. I thought the password for the
- 1:05:34crypto account was going to be her birthday.
- 1:05:38I thought it was going to be Yuno's birthday.
- 1:05:41Yeah, I love that piece of writing.
- 1:05:42Cuz you, you really do. Think it's going to be DID?
- 1:05:45You really do think it was going to be the birthday?
- 1:05:47That it was going to be the birthday, and it was not.
- 1:05:50It was not her birthday. I love that twist.
- 1:05:54I loved it. And then after that, I thought
- 1:05:57it was going to be the SOS code 1882.
- 1:06:02Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't, I don't think they
- 1:06:05landed that necessarily, that the last four digits were the
- 1:06:09friendship day. Yeah, that was one of the small
- 1:06:15qualms I had. I was like, they could have
- 1:06:16picked a definitely a better story with that part, yeah.
- 1:06:20I think it should have been the SSI.
- 1:06:22Think so too. I like that idea more.
- 1:06:26I think it was a good choice to not have it be her birthday.
- 1:06:29Oh yeah. Because it just, it just sounds,
- 1:06:31it shows more of like the paranoia part of it all.
- 1:06:34And then it brought his widow into the paranoia now.
- 1:06:38But yeah, I that was one of the small issues I had at the end
- 1:06:41was like, I I think they could have wrote that part of the
- 1:06:45story better or picked a different significant date than
- 1:06:49that. This insurance guy had
- 1:06:51superhuman strength though. I love I cheered when that
- 1:06:55happened. When?
- 1:06:57He picked up like Superman picked up the prosecutor who was
- 1:07:02choking out, you know, and threw him across the room.
- 1:07:06Yeah. I.
- 1:07:08I have a speechless. I was like, where is where is
- 1:07:10this coming from? Does he compete like this is?
- 1:07:14Incredible. Is he high on?
- 1:07:17Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I I had so many more
- 1:07:21questions than answers. I was like, I don't know where.
- 1:07:23He just has this unbelievable Herculean strength.
- 1:07:28Right. Right.
- 1:07:30It's never addressed. Then we go back.
- 1:07:32And then I thought, oh, maybe I saw it wrong.
- 1:07:34No, then they go back and they had the prosecutor look at the
- 1:07:37CCTV footage, right? And you see it again.
- 1:07:40You see the scene again. And I'm like, no, no, no, no,
- 1:07:42that's that was nuts. That was actually nuts.
- 1:07:46Yeah, yeah. Oh, my God.
- 1:07:50The one thing we're dancing around is who is the doctor?
- 1:07:54Yeah. Who was the doctor?
- 1:07:56Who was the doctor? And I said before our spoiler
- 1:07:59break that I yelled out I knew it, and my sister overheard me.
- 1:08:05This is what I knew from the funeral of Chun.
- 1:08:09So was that Four Eyes who have been calling?
- 1:08:14Four Eyes was the doctor. Yeah.
- 1:08:17I was like, that guy's shady as shit.
- 1:08:19I clocked him early too. What I didn't clock was how
- 1:08:23crazy he was. No, no, no, that was crazy.
- 1:08:26Like, like I did. I was like, oh, no, he
- 1:08:28definitely is like some bad person.
- 1:08:30I might not have like, clocked he wasn't a doctor until
- 1:08:33somebody started mentioning the doctor.
- 1:08:35But I was like, Oh no, he's in on it somehow.
- 1:08:37Like he's too innocent over here and he's too much, like, on
- 1:08:40screen for not to be important. Yeah, but I didn't clock how
- 1:08:45crazy he was going to be. It was.
- 1:08:49Did it work for you how crazy he was?
- 1:08:51Yeah, I think it worked because it was just the the audacity of
- 1:08:56it all was just like it was fun. I wouldn't say it was 100%
- 1:09:01worked for me, but it was fun. And the same with Kwan Yules
- 1:09:07character, the descent that he had by the end, it didn't 100%
- 1:09:12make sense but it was fun, at least for him.
- 1:09:16At least for Kuan Yew's character, it made a little more
- 1:09:19sense in his reasoning because he was just so arrogant by the
- 1:09:24end. Oh yeah, the.
- 1:09:25Doctor, his reasoning, especially for drugging Jason
- 1:09:29just was not. It was not 100.
- 1:09:32Like it wasn't there like I think it helped to prove it was.
- 1:09:35It was shaky, but it also helped to prove how insane he was.
- 1:09:39Yeah, he was. He didn't need a.
- 1:09:41He didn't need a sane reason because that wasn't his
- 1:09:44character. Yeah, like we need it.
- 1:09:48You'd think that the rest of the Doom Squad are crazy psycho.
- 1:09:54You know, they're willing to kill people.
- 1:09:56They're willing to, you know, freeze people right in there.
- 1:10:02What is it called? Cold storage cold.
- 1:10:04Storage, thank you in the cold storage and just do despicable
- 1:10:08things. Half of them creating this lemon
- 1:10:11Mulberry demand in the drug market and creating this
- 1:10:15business basically and the other half not realizing that that's
- 1:10:19what they were doing. Let alone like distributing
- 1:10:22outside of their organization too.
- 1:10:24It wasn't just them within their organization.
- 1:10:26They were taking bribes and distributing outside of it
- 1:10:29because they were all arrogant. So they they're doing all of
- 1:10:32this and then you have and you're like, that's crazy.
- 1:10:36That's they're wild. Then you have sang Sanghi, I
- 1:10:39think is his name sang Sanghi 4 eyes and I had clocked that's
- 1:10:44the doctor. But you're like, why?
- 1:10:47Why do this? The next question is why get our
- 1:10:51male lead who never heard a family addicted to drugs
- 1:10:55addicted to London Mulberry. You see in this crazy flashback
- 1:11:00that, you know, this incident happened.
- 1:11:04They killed this other kid in this fiery inferno.
- 1:11:07It burned down his whole house, and they're covering it up.
- 1:11:11And they just got our male lead expelled and, like, transferred
- 1:11:16to another school. So you think that's going to be
- 1:11:18the end of it? Then you see Sangy for our Four
- 1:11:20Eyes character go, is that enough?
- 1:11:24Yeah. And you're like, what the fuck?
- 1:11:25Wait, wait. There he goes.
- 1:11:29That's not enough. We need to break up June so and
- 1:11:33you know the the Mr. Body who eventually becomes Mr. Body and
- 1:11:39our journalist hospital playlist girl because they were dating in
- 1:11:42high school. Break them up and this group
- 1:11:45should have never created this club and music club audiophile
- 1:11:48and all the stuff so we could fuck up the club.
- 1:11:51This guy had June so literally vandalize his own beloved school
- 1:11:56club with a baseball bat and then violently cut ties with,
- 1:12:00you know, and he relished. It Yeah.
- 1:12:05And that's when you're like, OK, I think he beat all of them.
- 1:12:09He's psycho, yeah. This dude is insane.
- 1:12:11Yeah, yeah. And then you hear him spouting
- 1:12:14to Ji Sung and Jummy Doe the reasoning the episode. 12
- 1:12:18exposition dump. I don't like exposition dumps,
- 1:12:23but this is when he starts saying I just didn't like you.
- 1:12:26Yeah, also I didn't like you, but I also was was friends with
- 1:12:31June, so for 20 years. So I was like his biggest
- 1:12:35support and how dare he like includes you in the will.
- 1:12:39How dare that. How dare that you only talk to
- 1:12:43him a handful of times and he thinks you're.
- 1:12:45It was a jealousy thing in a way.
- 1:12:48Right, but it was a jealousy thing.
- 1:12:50But I don't know. Did Sangi for Eyes know about
- 1:12:56the will before June so died? No, I don't think so because it
- 1:13:01happened after. OK, no.
- 1:13:04I don't. No, I do not think he did.
- 1:13:05That's what I thought too, because by the time the funeral
- 1:13:08happens, the male lead is already addicted to lemon
- 1:13:12Mulberry. Yeah, so he didn't drug him
- 1:13:15because of the will. He drugged him, as you said,
- 1:13:17because he just didn't like him. He just didn't like him.
- 1:13:20But then he, he, I think he drug.
- 1:13:22Jealous of their. Collection, yeah.
- 1:13:25Or just the connection that Jung so thought they had.
- 1:13:30I think, I think it was a combination of a lot of things.
- 1:13:33He didn't like him in general. He didn't like that even though
- 1:13:37he was 20 years friendship with Jung so and like there for him,
- 1:13:41Jung so could not let go of the guilt of what happened to Ji
- 1:13:45Sung's character and was trying to make amends for those 20
- 1:13:49years and G Sung and he was mad at G Sung because G Sung didn't
- 1:13:53let him have that resolution. Yes, Never gave him forgiveness.
- 1:13:58So I think he drugged him first, just didn't like him because he
- 1:14:01wanted to kind of get rid of him so Jung so would be able to move
- 1:14:04on. But then when the will was read
- 1:14:08and then he found that out, then he doubled down and was like,
- 1:14:12oh, I really don't like you and I'm so jealous of you and I'm
- 1:14:16just going to make your life miserable and haunt you with
- 1:14:19this stuff. But he also wanted to use him as
- 1:14:23revenge because he'd been like, bullied by the Doom Squad and
- 1:14:27John. So for that matter, yeah, he was
- 1:14:30like using him at the same time to get revenge on the people.
- 1:14:33That was a it was all about June so for him, right?
- 1:14:36In a way, both in revenge, but also in jealousy and like
- 1:14:40wanting to get rid of them so he could have June so to himself.
- 1:14:43Yeah, he, yeah. Which was nuts it.
- 1:14:46Was about half crazy. I told me you guys can't see
- 1:14:50this but I'm just shaking my head with crazy eyes.
- 1:14:53He also, it made it sound like he and you mentioned this, that
- 1:14:58he set him loose right near the drug hand off in the subway
- 1:15:02station so that he could bust those guys that were part of the
- 1:15:07Lemon Millbury distribution system.
- 1:15:10And it would lead back to him, lead back to Four Eyes, and
- 1:15:14eventually lead back to the prosecutor and get at all of the
- 1:15:18Doom Squad, right? Found out and arrested for this
- 1:15:22lemon Mulberry. Trafficking thing, yeah.
- 1:15:25But then it didn't happen that way.
- 1:15:27He kept saying like, you're a bad cop, basically, you keep,
- 1:15:30you keep letting these guys go right?
- 1:15:32I keep handing things to you and like you, you can't get your
- 1:15:36shit together right. And honestly, it's stupid only
- 1:15:42because he got him addicted to lemon Mulberry, and lemon
- 1:15:44Mulberry is impairing him the entirety of the show, right?
- 1:15:50Yeah. So it's just, it's so he's
- 1:15:54getting upset that he can't do his job at the efficiency that
- 1:15:59he wants him to. But it's entirely his.
- 1:16:02Fault, but it's entirely his. Fault.
- 1:16:04Exactly. Exactly.
- 1:16:06Yeah, stupid. It's just psycho.
- 1:16:09It was psycho, baby. It was psycho.
- 1:16:11It was psycho, yeah. Yeah, anyway, I had questions
- 1:16:16about the last episode where our prosecutor, because I genuinely
- 1:16:21thought he was admitting to killing June.
- 1:16:23So yeah. Mm hmm, that was the part I did
- 1:16:26not like. OK, talk to me about it.
- 1:16:29So I wanted it to hit be him. I wanted it to be him and done
- 1:16:33me too. And then to have the CEO father
- 1:16:38come in at the very last second and be like, Oh no, it was
- 1:16:41actually my plan. I was like, why like it was?
- 1:16:44That was not needed at all. Kwan Yul did a amazing
- 1:16:49performance, went off the deep end, was so arrogant, was so
- 1:16:54good in that scene. And then four Eyes just shut him
- 1:16:59up, him up out of nowhere. I'm just like, Oh my God, I was
- 1:17:03not like I was because I knew he had the gun, but I wasn't at the
- 1:17:08same time. I yes, yeah.
- 1:17:10Just because, like, if he didn't do it, somebody in that room was
- 1:17:13going to either punch him or kill him because they were like
- 1:17:16boiling over at that point because he was just talking way
- 1:17:19too long. He was doing them the the cliche
- 1:17:22manifesto. Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:24Of a correct thing. Yeah.
- 1:17:26Because he was just so arrogant because he thought he had beat
- 1:17:28everybody. Yeah, So I would would have been
- 1:17:30very, very pleased with that ending.
- 1:17:33I would have been 100% OK with that ending.
- 1:17:37And then you had to bring in like, yes, the shoe thing was
- 1:17:41still bugging people. I understand that.
- 1:17:44But it was just like, OK, it was explained in that scene.
- 1:17:49It didn't really need to be investigated more.
- 1:17:54And then they just went down the rabbit hole of the cliche
- 1:17:57corruption CEO hired somebody to do the job again, which I just
- 1:18:04did not. I did not like That was the one
- 1:18:07thing I did not like at the end. I wish they had left that out
- 1:18:10because it wasn't needed. It was not needed.
- 1:18:12It didn't add anything. And because it also didn't
- 1:18:16really make sense for the father like it did and it didn't
- 1:18:19because like the on one hand, it did because he was very, very he
- 1:18:24was set on image. He needed a certain image.
- 1:18:27His company was failing. He he needed that.
- 1:18:30That wasn't. Just come to work out, it was
- 1:18:32the entire conglomerate, the group.
- 1:18:36Yeah, and he needed that project to work out.
- 1:18:39It obviously wasn't going to work out.
- 1:18:43So he obviously did the cliche thing and hired the person who
- 1:18:46was going to reveal everything. The show did a great in part of
- 1:18:50that reasoning, but then they also threw in like, I needed to
- 1:18:54protect my son, which was not believable at all, because he
- 1:18:58hated his guts. He hated his entire life.
- 1:19:01His entire life he hated his guts.
- 1:19:03Yeah. He was embarrassed of him.
- 1:19:06Yeah, yeah. And he clearly wanted the
- 1:19:08prosecutor. To some extent, he wished he was
- 1:19:12his son. Yeah.
- 1:19:14I loved every. Time.
- 1:19:15It never was going to happen. Oh.
- 1:19:17Not the CEO every time that old man chairman humbled the
- 1:19:22prosecutor. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:24That was always an interesting. That was a fun thing to watch.
- 1:19:27Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:19:29So that was the. That was literally the only part
- 1:19:31I did not like in this room because it just did not.
- 1:19:34It wasn't needed. It was.
- 1:19:35It was not necessary. I thought I was genuinely
- 1:19:38surprised when they do it like a two months later time jump after
- 1:19:43he gets the prosecutor gets shot in the head by four eyes and
- 1:19:48they still don't have the insurance payout and they're
- 1:19:51like, we still need to figure out who it is.
- 1:19:52I was like, what do you what right.
- 1:19:55I was like, it was not the prosecutor because he had, he
- 1:19:58was the shadiest 1. He was the one blocking every
- 1:20:01attempt at solving the murder. He didn't want the autopsy.
- 1:20:06He stopped the elevator before they got to the 9th floor.
- 1:20:08All these things really did add up that he was the murderer, or
- 1:20:13at least, you know, hired somebody to push him off the 9th
- 1:20:17floor. Right.
- 1:20:19Yeah. I don't I completely agree with
- 1:20:22you that it the chairman being the big bad of a murderer didn't
- 1:20:28sit right right and him having this thin reason of.
- 1:20:33The shoes, right, which you said even pointed out was like, yeah,
- 1:20:39but 50% of people don't actually take off their shoes.
- 1:20:42They even wrote that into the script was which was, which was
- 1:20:46hilarious to me. But yeah.
- 1:20:48They caught him in like a weird technicality and I didn't.
- 1:20:51I didn't appreciate that. But anyway, that's neither here
- 1:20:54nor there. And then I like the paycheck
- 1:20:57ending, though where I don't know if you've seen the movie
- 1:21:00Paycheck with Ben Affleck. A long time ago, I barely
- 1:21:04remember it. And you know what?
- 1:21:06I I also have only watched this movie once like 20 years ago
- 1:21:11when it came out but the ending has always stuck to me where
- 1:21:14they have the winning. Oh, spoilers for this movie.
- 1:21:17By the way. I guess where they find the
- 1:21:20winning lottery ticket, they still have it.
- 1:21:23Yes, yes. And so this is their winning
- 1:21:26lottery ticket moment, right? They have the final four digits
- 1:21:30of this cryptocurrency account that has all of the profits, all
- 1:21:35of the proceeds of the Lemon Mulberry business, right?
- 1:21:38And they're able to get into it and you see their reaction.
- 1:21:40They're super excited because not only did they get the payout
- 1:21:43and they're splitting it and they're giving some to the
- 1:21:45cheating wife and they're putting some away for this and
- 1:21:48that and the other had to pay taxes and all this stuff, but
- 1:21:51they also got into The Dirty money account.
- 1:21:55The Dirty money, yeah. And I really like that.
- 1:21:58I like that too, yeah. Because you don't know what they
- 1:22:00actually do with it. That.
- 1:22:01I like that part. You just that's that's the end.
- 1:22:04As you know, they got in. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:22:08The first part, I, I had to rewatch that scene the first
- 1:22:10time because when they were zooming out and it was just the
- 1:22:14dialogue, yeah. I, I thought they had entered it
- 1:22:17wrong. Or I also had thought that the
- 1:22:20laptop had died and I was like, wait, what?
- 1:22:23So I had to like, rewatch it. I was like, oh, OK, that's not
- 1:22:27actually what happened. Yeah.
- 1:22:30No, it's good. It's good.
- 1:22:32I think that's everything that I had in my notes.
- 1:22:35Is there anything else that you wanna talk about for connection?
- 1:22:39Because I think we made it all the way through the show and we
- 1:22:43talked about the ending. It was a happy ending.
- 1:22:46He gets clean. G Song's character gets clean.
- 1:22:50No more Lemon Mulberry, which I really like that name by the
- 1:22:52way, for the drug. So you have here, like, thoughts
- 1:22:56on the music and OST? I like the music.
- 1:23:00I thought the music was was good.
- 1:23:02Yeah. I thought it fit the show very
- 1:23:05well. I mean, it actually, it
- 1:23:07obviously added to like, the anxiety of watching him go
- 1:23:12through withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms.
- 1:23:14I mean, I, I mean, I don't know, I just think of the cliched
- 1:23:19withdrawal symptoms. So I don't know any.
- 1:23:21Oh. My God, you brought up with the.
- 1:23:23Withdrawal symptoms or everything but like I thought
- 1:23:26they were extreme. So two things they were.
- 1:23:29Oh my God, you reminded me of two things.
- 1:23:32One was the freaking copico product placement throughout the
- 1:23:36show. I remember, I remember cuz it
- 1:23:39was very heavy at the end of the show.
- 1:23:42It was heavy throughout the show.
- 1:23:43What are you talking about? Like it was noticeably heavy for
- 1:23:46me at the end cuz. I don't understand.
- 1:23:48Three times in the last two episodes.
- 1:23:50I thought this was the biggest irony of the show is because
- 1:23:53this is about a narcotics unit. This is a cop getting addicted
- 1:23:56to drugs. They're trying to figure out,
- 1:23:59you know, this whole system, the lemon, Mulberry, all the shit
- 1:24:03and they're they're still peddling caffeine tablets,
- 1:24:08caffeine gum. This is legalized stimulants is
- 1:24:13what you're doing. I'm like, this is a drug.
- 1:24:16People have withdrawal symptoms. They don't have coffee like
- 1:24:19caffeine. People have caffeine addictions.
- 1:24:22I'm like, you're feeding into this addiction and shit.
- 1:24:26I don't understand why they would take the Coffee Co, the
- 1:24:30Coffee Co product placement. That was completely strange to
- 1:24:34me. I was like, I understand there's
- 1:24:37money in this, but this is diluting the message, don't you
- 1:24:39think? Like, I don't know and #2 every
- 1:24:45single person who saw G Song was like, are you OK?
- 1:24:49You look pale, you're sweating, your eyes are red, but
- 1:24:52everything. It didn't matter if they were a
- 1:24:54doctor, a nurse, a coworker, someone he saw on the street, a
- 1:24:58grandma who was fixing talkbookie for him.
- 1:25:00Didn't fucking matter. Everybody was commenting on his
- 1:25:03appearance and everybody to me was a narc.
- 1:25:09I'm like, is the entire society looking out for drug addicts?
- 1:25:13Yeah, I mean, that was part of the anxiety of the show too,
- 1:25:15Yes. It's like it was noticeable on
- 1:25:18him. Right.
- 1:25:19But even when it wasn't, even when it wasn't and he just kind
- 1:25:22of looked a little pallid. Yeah.
- 1:25:24They were like, are you like? Jumping no, trying to like
- 1:25:26constantly feed him because it was a it was an appetite
- 1:25:29suppressant. Yes, so.
- 1:25:32Yeah. I did like that detail is that
- 1:25:35you almost you'd never see him eat, right?
- 1:25:37Never see him eat. You only see him drinking water,
- 1:25:40stuffing pills down his gullet, and you never see him sleep.
- 1:25:44You never see him eat. Yeah.
- 1:25:46So yeah. Really really crazy show if you
- 1:25:50don't want high glasses. Yeah, if you yeah, make sure
- 1:25:54you're ready for anxiety inducing ride, Yes.
- 1:25:58So obviously the the throw against the computers was very
- 1:26:02satisfying with the prosecutor, but what did you think of the
- 1:26:05slap in the next? Oh my God, I loved it.
- 1:26:12Oh, that was one note that I almost didn't say.
- 1:26:15Thank you for bringing it up. Because they go to the hospital
- 1:26:18after the cheating wife, the widow attempted murder because
- 1:26:24the taxi drivers on the loose, right?
- 1:26:26He's literally roaming town trying to get away from the cops
- 1:26:30and he tries to kill the widow because he thinks there's
- 1:26:34evidence. Whatever.
- 1:26:35She's in the hospital, and G Song clocks Quaniel's character
- 1:26:40in the face, the prosecutor, and the prosecutor hits him back.
- 1:26:44But he's, you know, weak and stuff.
- 1:26:46He's trying to make it through another, like, withdrawal
- 1:26:49episode. And he just falls on the floor,
- 1:26:52collapses. Yeah, collapses.
- 1:26:54And I love when you and Jin, the journalist shows up because she
- 1:26:59just walks down the hallway and she's like, like, she winds back
- 1:27:04and hits the prosecutor so hard. I was like, yes, girl, like
- 1:27:10what? Come and get him.
- 1:27:12Come and get this man. And she said, I just came down
- 1:27:15here to see who was fighting. Like she was just, Oh my God, I
- 1:27:19loved her character so much. Also, Oh, we didn't talk about
- 1:27:22this last thing, the chemistry between Tomido and G Song.
- 1:27:31These crime dramas, they just, they just.
- 1:27:34Really get you delusional about these ships.
- 1:27:38Yeah. Yep, Yep.
- 1:27:40They get you all riled up and then nothing happens.
- 1:27:43Yep. Because tell me why those two
- 1:27:46should have been married with three kinds by the end of the
- 1:27:47show. Right, right.
- 1:27:51Anyway, that's all I have to say about connection.
- 1:27:56Anything else? Yep, that's it.
- 1:27:57That's. All right, nice.
