- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we are talking about momentum.
- 0:35So momentum is one of the most powerful things that we as human
- 0:41beings can use to help ourselves.
- 0:44And you can't imagine why because it's kind of crazy.
- 0:47But think about it when you roll something or you're moving
- 0:50something and once it starts moving, it's easier to move
- 0:53well, it's the same thing with whatever tasks we're doing.
- 0:57It's the same thing with getting something under your belt.
- 1:00So if you have done really well eating like let's say you want
- 1:03to lose weight and you want to be able to or or you want to
- 1:08start walking, it's a great metaphor for me to use because
- 1:11you know how much I walk. So when I first started the
- 1:14whole walking journey, I remember I was when I realized I
- 1:17was not walking a lot, I was like Oh my gosh.
- 1:20And I got my Fitbit and I put it on and I was like Oh my God, how
- 1:23can I only be doing 3000 steps a day?
- 1:25This is pathetic. This is why I'm so distraught
- 1:28and my body feels like hell. So I started and I'm day one, I
- 1:33started walking, day two walking, and then day three, it
- 1:37happened to be the weekend. And I'm like, man, I just, I was
- 1:41doing so well. And then the weekend comes and
- 1:43it throws off the pattern. Well, that's the momentum.
- 1:47The pattern actually creates momentum or vice versa.
- 1:51And when you throw something off, you throw something off.
- 1:54So all of a sudden down go the steps again and you feel
- 1:58terrible because you did it. Or it might be like not eating.
- 2:02And then all of a sudden you have a piece of candy or you've
- 2:05done really well all week long, and then you're in the office
- 2:07and then someone has a damn office party and brings in
- 2:09cupcakes. And of course the cupcakes are
- 2:11sitting there and they're calling you and you're just
- 2:13like, ah man. And it's just that like moment
- 2:18that in those moments of decision your, your whole world
- 2:23is shaped and you're like, okay, do I step out of momentum to
- 2:28where I'm in the right direction or do I go and and and just eat
- 2:32the cupcake? Like, you know, what do I do?
- 2:34Do I stay in momentum? Do I get out of momentum?
- 2:37And that's what I'm talking about today, because staying in
- 2:40momentum is hard work. Let me be very clear about that.
- 2:44Staying in momentum is really, really hard work.
- 2:47It is not easy to be consistent. If there's one thing that I
- 2:50know, it is terribly difficult to stay in momentum even for me,
- 2:56because it's about doing the same things over and over.
- 2:59And as you know, much as we love that as human beings, we also
- 3:03want variety. So we have to find ways to blend
- 3:07the world, because keeping in momentum will keep you in a
- 3:11grand, grand space. And that's the most important
- 3:15thing. That is the most important thing
- 3:17that you could possibly do for yourself is to put yourself in
- 3:20awareness and say, okay, I am going to stay in this place and
- 3:25keep myself moving. I'm not going to stop.
- 3:27So for for instance, me with the stops, let's use that as an
- 3:30example because it's the one that I know oh so well as a
- 3:34physical goal. Anyway, I I set my little app on
- 3:38my phone to say that my minimum steps is 15,000 steps a day, and
- 3:43my goal steps are really to be up over 20 every single day.
- 3:48I know that seems extreme to some people, but it's it's just
- 3:51what I like to do and it's just where I am.
- 3:54And if I say okay, I can change how I'm doing it.
- 3:58Like OKI can go walk downtown. I can go do something else.
- 4:01If it's the weekend, I could go and find another space to go and
- 4:06hike it out, get those steps in. It doesn't always have to be the
- 4:09same pattern of it, but it does have to be that momentum piece.
- 4:15I'm not gonna allow myself to fall out of it.
- 4:17Because then once you eat that cupcake once, you stop the
- 4:20steps. Once you don't write that one
- 4:22day, all of a sudden it's easy to go well, I'll just pick it
- 4:27back up on Monday. And we've all said those words.
- 4:29I'll just start over again on Monday.
- 4:31But why? What's the reason?
- 4:34What's the what's the purpose of that?
- 4:36We do it and it tortures us. We do it.
- 4:38We don't feel good. We do it, and we don't like
- 4:41ourselves after we do it. So I'm here to remind you that
- 4:44momentum has purpose. Momentum is a force, and we want
- 4:49to use it in our favor. So no matter what you do this
- 4:53week, I want you to think about where you can create momentum,
- 4:56where you can live in momentum and you can make the choices to
- 5:01make it easier so that you can stay in it and think about it
- 5:05and pattern yourself your what you're doing your activities
- 5:08around those things so that you don't have the glass of wine so
- 5:12that you don't miss out on your whatever your projects might be.
- 5:16And I know it's hard, believe me, because I have a lot of
- 5:18things that I need to stay in momentum with, and it requires a
- 5:23lot of mental juice. But guess what?
- 5:25You wouldn't be here if you were average.
- 5:27So don't play average. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:30you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:32Bye.
