Transcript
- 0:30Sai and Fraser, please leave me to my static and solitary
- 0:35peregrinations. Welcome back to a hamster with a
- 0:39blunt pen knife, the Agatha Christie Sunday Night Doctor Who
- 0:44Spectacular podcast. Gentlemen, how are you today?
- 0:49All good. How are you?
- 0:50Yeah. Brilliant.
- 0:50I hear there has been a murder in the Ham fam.
- 0:55No. Yes.
- 0:57Who? Well, that's what I'm here to
- 0:59find out by the end of this particular episode.
- 1:02OK, I. Think that was me murdering the
- 1:06Rocky Horror Show but that was the last episode.
- 1:09Now I. Shall reveal who the victim was
- 1:12and I shall know from your reactions as to which one of you
- 1:16is responsible. Alas, former Hamster contributor
- 1:21David Maskell has died with a. Enormous knife plunged.
- 1:27Into his back and a wheel of cheese bashed over his head.
- 1:32I suspect I know who. May have been guilty, but I
- 1:35shall reveal it at the end of the episode.
- 1:39What type of cheese? Oh, it was a.
- 1:42Huge Yarlsberg. Oh, you always used to love that
- 1:47episode of Midsummer Murders where Martine Mcclatchan was
- 1:50down in that cellar and someone murdered her with a wiggle of
- 1:52cheese. So I figured that's the way
- 1:54you'd want to go. What a.
- 1:55Way to go. You know Yorksberg, Maybe he's
- 1:59not, but you know a good cheddar over parmesan.
- 2:00Then you. Already interrogated the rest of
- 2:03the Ham fam and they've all got solid alibis.
- 2:05Only you 2. I don't believe it.
- 2:08I think it was Lucy McCall. It's always the one you least
- 2:12expect. It is.
- 2:14Hiding in plain sight, you think?
- 2:16Yep. OK, well, we are here not just
- 2:19to find out which two of you is a fiendish murderer, but also to
- 2:23do a commentary on episode 2. Or. 9 No 10 Where the hell are
- 2:29we? It's fucking thing.
- 2:31Episode 10 of Trial of a Tyre Lord.
- 2:33Episode 2 of Terror of the Verve Void.
- 2:35You can understand why people were a bit confused at the time.
- 2:39How's it all going so far? It's great, isn't it?
- 2:43It's it's bags of fun and it feels like the fun's been let in
- 2:48for this season. So it is.
- 2:50It's it's played seriously, but you can sense everyone knows
- 2:56that they're doing kind of Agatha Christie and are fitting
- 2:59their roles and making everyone possible a possible suspect for
- 3:05this. I'm very pleased that you
- 3:06brought that upside because before we go into the episode,
- 3:09what I'd like to do, and I haven't done this for some time
- 3:12now, on a hamster commentary is for the two of you, gentlemen,
- 3:16one sentence at a time, each batting back and forth to tell
- 3:20us where we are so far in the plot of terror of the verbal.
- 3:24It's to date I want every suspect accounted for si start
- 3:28us off. So Captain Tonka Travis is an
- 3:31old friend of Doctor Who's. He is in charge of this ship.
- 3:35He is going to investigate these murders.
- 3:37He's already decided that that in his book, this is murder.
- 3:42So he is, he's not necessarily a subject, but he is the one, the
- 3:46key. He's going to be like the
- 3:48Inspector Jack to the doctors, Poirot.
- 3:51Fraser. So we've got a big suspect as
- 3:54shifty look and Scouse Guru with the beard, and that's either
- 3:57Granville or Hallett, depending on which old man you listen to.
- 4:01But we've seen him shifting around the place and putting his
- 4:05little visor down and looking really shifty and but he seems
- 4:08to have been murdered. He's been chucked into the
- 4:10pulverizers. So it can't possibly be him, now
- 4:12can it? Sign.
- 4:14But there's Janet, the receptionist.
- 4:18Oh yes, she's. So innocent.
- 4:20She's so lovely. She makes delicious coffee, she
- 4:23brings biscuits round to people she can't possibly hand over the
- 4:28the the list of people who are on the ship.
- 4:31She knows her job inside out. Couldn't possibly be Janet,
- 4:35could it? And in the hydroponic centre,
- 4:38Fraser. Well, that's where you'll find
- 4:40Professor Lasky sneaking around, because she's definitely got
- 4:44something to hide in her isolation room now hasn't she?
- 4:46Along with them, Dooland and Bruckner have two assistants.
- 4:50That's a way too much exercise for one person to do when
- 4:53they've not got something to hide.
- 4:55Is it Lasky? Sigh.
- 4:57I believe I saw a security officer looking a bit shifty.
- 4:59Mr. Rudge, he's only got this is his last, last mission.
- 5:05It's the last time he's being forced into retirement.
- 5:08He doesn't seem happy about it. Could he be behind all of this?
- 5:13It's a possibility. Maybe he's not being well paid,
- 5:16Maybe he hasn't topped up his pension.
- 5:19Who knows? Fraser, who is the apparently
- 5:21frail, delicate old man wandering about the place.
- 5:25Oh. No one knows who he is but my
- 5:28eye. Mr. Kimber.
- 5:29Now I was immediately drawn to the the quite clearly sleazy and
- 5:34flirtatious communications officer Edwards, who you know is
- 5:39he's clearly wrong and he's clearly up to no good as he
- 5:44sproules around the hydroponics Bay looking for his latest
- 5:48victim. Until such time as he touches
- 5:51the electrified fence and someone screens in a key of F or
- 5:55D or E minor. Who knows?
- 5:56Outside, does this throw any suspicion on the spunky redhead
- 6:01that's doing aerobics all about the place?
- 6:04She's just full of spunk. She's full of get up and go.
- 6:09Nothing is going to stop her investigating.
- 6:11We've already seen her shifterly trying to get into a hotel room
- 6:15and being stopped by security, looking at a picture that she's
- 6:18pretending as a map of the Hyperion Free, but it's actually
- 6:21a piece of modern art and say, oh, you've got a gym here.
- 6:25Oh, no one's fooled, Madam. And finally, Fraser, who is this
- 6:31man wandering around like a. Colourful court jester.
- 6:35Court jester, maybe he's more of a clown.
- 6:39He's he can pull, pull. Have you heard his rendition of
- 6:43On With the Motley? Unfortunately I have but.
- 6:45Count your blessings. Bye.
- 6:47You know as. As as someone who tried to sing
- 6:49on the last one, I don't think I'm in any place to.
- 6:54Very succinct there. Thank you very much.
- 6:57I think everyone's up to speed. Yeah, we've been paying
- 7:00attention. Yep.
- 7:01So should we watch the episode? We better had yes.
- 7:05Who's going to have the phrase count us in?
- 7:07I shall count us in, then key in 54321 and scream.
- 7:15Yes, I love that, Ian, don't you?
- 7:16Or do we miss the Peter Howell scream?
- 7:20Well, I do miss the Peter Howe screen, but by this point in the
- 7:23season I've grown to really love this theme and I'm eagerly
- 7:27awaiting the the single version coming out.
- 7:30Which comes out early 1988. Which is not early 1987 even.
- 7:37Which is not a great time because this will already be
- 7:40superseded by the time the single is released.
- 7:44Because we know, Fraser, that the best theme of all is just
- 7:47around the corner, don't we? Low spectrum light, you say?
- 7:53Yeah. Something to do with
- 7:55photosynthesis. Apparently.
- 7:57You know Edwards had such promise, didn't he?
- 7:59Did you hear him earlier when he went?
- 8:01Oh, you make delicious coffee, Janet.
- 8:03You know, patronising Git. Well.
- 8:06What's really interesting, I'm going to say a bit about the
- 8:09costume design here, because we've got Andrew Rose Who doing
- 8:14the costume design, and Andrew Rose does 3 Doctor Who stories,
- 8:18and all of the people who live on spaceships or live in space
- 8:22have exactly the same kind of style.
- 8:25So he does Planets of Wretched Evil where you've got costume
- 8:31with great big round collars. And he comes back.
- 8:35And shoulder pads. Then he comes back and he does
- 8:38Kings of Andrazani where someone like Trail Morgas has shoulder
- 8:44pads and a great big round collar.
- 8:46Then he does this where the spaceships have great big.
- 8:51Now I'm not saying he has a lack of inspiration, but he's
- 8:55definitely got a style he likes a.
- 8:57Tuna, doesn't he? He does.
- 8:59I mean, you know, you've got a style.
- 9:01You just what about that woman that did arc in space and then
- 9:03came back all those years later and did Christmas carols?
- 9:05Exactly the same. Yes, Barbara kids.
- 9:08So Oh. Here we go, we're in the.
- 9:10Trial a bit more now, which is because I do miss Linda
- 9:13Bellingham and Michael Jason, you know.
- 9:15Yeah. No, Madam, I'm being
- 9:18manipulated. It's it is such a a keen eyed
- 9:25performance of the doctor at this point because the doctor
- 9:27is, you know, he's he's he's beaten, he's been beaten down,
- 9:30he's been beaten down by the valley, he's been beaten down by
- 9:32the loss of Perry and he's he's so on the back foot and this is
- 9:36his this should be him in the ascendancy.
- 9:38This should be him putting his case forward and, you know,
- 9:42defending himself. But you can just tell he is
- 9:44just, he is against the wolves. I mean Collins playing it that
- 9:48way. They do hang a Lantern on it.
- 9:50Yeah, they do say it in dialogue.
- 9:52But for the first 3 episodes of this story, he's seen
- 9:55deliberately flouting authority and being a general nuisance.
- 9:58Now I know in the last episode Tom Kafani turns around and
- 10:01goes, we need your undivided commitment, you know, thank you
- 10:04very much. And he's like, hey, there you
- 10:05go. But I mean, he makes the trial
- 10:07wait some time whilst he's. Wow.
- 10:10Yeah, the precise opposite of. What you should be?
- 10:12Doing yes. It's a very recognizable trait
- 10:17that he's doing at the minute. It's because in the previous two
- 10:20he has arrived at the scene, he has uncovered the mystery and he
- 10:24has then went to solve and here he has been played.
- 10:27So his reaction is to push back against what's expected of him.
- 10:33It's it's. It's.
- 10:36Persistent demand avoidance, you know, it's, it's a trait that
- 10:40I'm becoming a lot more familiar with through dealing with my son
- 10:44who's autistic. You know, the more that you
- 10:47demand someone to do something who's got APDA profile, the more
- 10:50they will not do it and they will push back and you've got to
- 10:52find another way in. It's like talking to Joe.
- 10:54Yeah, I was fine. Maybe I should do that test, you
- 10:57know? It's yeah.
- 10:59So it, I mean, obviously it's it's nothing of the sort in this
- 11:02instance because, you know, the doctor has not coded being
- 11:05autistic in any way, shape or form.
- 11:06But you know, when I say that when I see him, you know, he's
- 11:09answered the media and people are expecting him.
- 11:12You know, he's had this mystery thrust upon him and people are
- 11:15expecting him to go and solve it for him to see.
- 11:18And I'm not playing your game, you know?
- 11:20He's a bit sly than that, isn't it's?
- 11:22Super recognized he's still doing it, but he's like, I'm
- 11:24going to do it on my turns. I am not going to jump through
- 11:27your hoops. I'm not going to dance to your
- 11:29tune. I will do this.
- 11:31Yeah, Mel, Mel is old. No, no, no, come on.
- 11:33And he's just like, no, no, I'm not.
- 11:35There's that underlying respect between him and Travers that I
- 11:38really like. I think of all of the Calling
- 11:40goes to meet people from his past stories and there's plenty.
- 11:43Of a lot of those as Mel. Mcgillan that star three, you
- 11:47know, we've there's a lot of them.
- 11:48I think this is the most believable.
- 11:50I absolutely. But the time you get to the last
- 11:52episode and they're sort of talking in hush tones as to how
- 11:55they're going to bring this whole thing and how he takes the
- 11:57Commodore into his confidence at the end, you know, in the climax
- 12:00when he unveils stolen, I really believe it.
- 12:04Yeah, I quite like the fact that the Commodore's not cutting up
- 12:08with any of his nonsense and is cutting in the 1 is.
- 12:14J Baker's like. We've had enough of you, Colin.
- 12:16Now we haven't done this mulchiness.
- 12:18Can you guys think of a more Pip and Jane line then?
- 12:21I don't think you'll find enjoyments on the agenda I
- 12:27should say. That at the start.
- 12:28They're kind of hamster commentaries, I'm sure.
- 12:32Everyone is enjoying this one. You can't.
- 12:34Not really, can't you? I did love Mel in that previous
- 12:38scene as well, she goes. I don't need the doctor to talk
- 12:39out for me. I'll do it myself, you know.
- 12:42And then Bonnie. Gets her old time theatrical
- 12:44life. Well, the the answer's obvious
- 12:47to me. You've got a killer on board.
- 12:50Well. Yeah.
- 12:52We know that. Yes.
- 12:55We figured that one out ourselves.
- 12:57Thank you. This hydroponic site base set is
- 13:00really nice as. Well, I really like this cargo
- 13:02Bay. I think this is really nicely
- 13:04done. It feels really industrial
- 13:08levels. Again, like they can shoot the
- 13:10TARDIS from above, which I always.
- 13:11Yeah, which is always, always a joy.
- 13:14And, and here you've got Dolan and Bruckner, who haven't really
- 13:18been to the fore yet, and you're getting an idea of of who they
- 13:23are. Bruckner is, is panicky.
- 13:26Dolan is sort of ice cold and rational, and so they they play
- 13:31off each other quite nicely because they're they're two
- 13:34polar opposites. Yeah, he's so casual.
- 13:36He goes, oh, some fool must have introduced Louis Veteran Light
- 13:39here. Yeah, it's, it's, it's, it's a
- 13:41very Patrick Reichardt performance.
- 13:44It would be like if Fraser was a murderer, you know, he'd be very
- 13:47casual about it all. Whereas you would be the drama
- 13:51joker. I'd be broke now, yeah.
- 13:53The drama and the chaos in the middle.
- 13:56Do you see the name Sigh in the history books?
- 13:58Oh, I think I'll be on a black one and I'll pull off that pink
- 14:01Cape. Oh, this scene in a minute with
- 14:07the Doctor it requires. Tact and finesse.
- 14:10Fortunately, I am blessed with both he's.
- 14:14So. Funny and Mel, she gets another
- 14:18very theatrical like now what have you landed us in?
- 14:21Yeah, and it's one of those Colin eye rolls.
- 14:25Look. So this bit in a minute, Yeah.
- 14:28In the between shooting the studio footage, it's so funny
- 14:33because she's trying to say, you know, oh, it's a colossal leap,
- 14:37you know, grow in desert sands and she keeps.
- 14:39Getting it wrong. So she wants to go again.
- 14:42So one time she goes. It's a colossal oh fuck.
- 14:45And Colin goes. Colin goes, oh really?
- 14:48Oh, I'll be there. And then the second.
- 14:51Time she goes, this is a colossal shit.
- 14:53He went, oh, that's just now, is it?
- 14:59And then the amount of times Colin has to throw the Demeter
- 15:02seed in the air and catch it in his mouth and it all keeps
- 15:05going. Come on, have another sweetie.
- 15:10It's great for it. Oh, lots of care in here.
- 15:15Well, it's the Megarian sneaking round, but forgot to mention the
- 15:18Megarians the Oh yeah. Well.
- 15:19We did, didn't we? Yeah.
- 15:21Of the story switch on your translator.
- 15:25It's the accent. There's no point.
- 15:27It doesn't get any better with the translator.
- 15:29That puts an entirely different on things, you know, pretty your
- 15:33friend Fraser the comedian wasn't as lucid.
- 15:36It's Colin looks so frustrated and it's brilliant.
- 15:40It's a great. Bit of comedy.
- 15:42Remember that one of those first scenes in the Marian conspiracy
- 15:45where the doctors trying to talk about Queen?
- 15:49Is it Queen Anne? Yeah.
- 15:51And Evelyn won't let him get a word in.
- 15:53He's going, Oh yeah, trying, trying to say his beer.
- 15:56It's exactly the same sort of thing.
- 15:58Yeah, Colin's much more likable when he's on the back foot.
- 16:01Yeah. He may be a fool, but it's not a
- 16:06criminal criminal. And then when he gets hit in his
- 16:12mouth, they all go well. Done.
- 16:18Oh yeah, it's an interesting response.
- 16:20You know, he has a seed. I've no idea what it does.
- 16:22It grows in deserts. But you know I'm going to chew
- 16:24it anyway. That's a nice set as well for
- 16:27the. Bridge is it?
- 16:28Yeah. And the screen effect is, is
- 16:31really nicely done. But but we're we're seeing here
- 16:36that they're they're, they're getting a bit close to the black
- 16:39hole of Tartarus. Yeah, gulp, I believe.
- 16:45They can very unpredictable. How many black holes of Tartarus
- 16:49have you explored? Thai.
- 16:53Not as many as you. That's still being debated, all
- 16:57right. Well, I fancy one of those
- 17:00biscuits. They don't love it.
- 17:03Don't you like a biscuit that's half shortbread, half chocolate?
- 17:06Yeah, that that was classy biscuits in the 80s, that that
- 17:10was your the ones you bring out for your special occasions that
- 17:13come in a special box. I mean, I think this Wicker
- 17:16furniture might have been quite classy in the 80s, but now?
- 17:19Wow. We get a bit of back story now.
- 17:23Don't worry about yeah, humanity going through space like a
- 17:26plague of interplanetary locusts.
- 17:29We're back to the Bob and Dave version of the future, So.
- 17:33It is. Which is probably completely
- 17:37coincidental, but but ties in nicely.
- 17:40Well, it's a bromide. Something that takes down your
- 17:45libido usually. What does it mean in that
- 17:48context? He says.
- 17:49That's hardly a denial, simply. A bromide.
- 17:52Some. It's basically something to keep
- 17:54us happy, yes. So why they can't just say
- 17:58you're just yeah, but it's just a platitude.
- 18:00I won't go into the details again, but Jane Baker was put in
- 18:05no sexual themes in this at all, all right?
- 18:09He won't have it. He knew on top.
- 18:11Yeah, designer the verb. I started there.
- 18:13No, I mean putting it on the front cover of Doctor Who
- 18:16Magazine. I was earlier today I was
- 18:21talking to to Jason and telling him about the story we were
- 18:27about to do the commentary on and say saying about this.
- 18:30And then he said, So what are the monsters in this one?
- 18:32And he said they're vervoids. And he said, what are they?
- 18:34They're plants and they look like everything.
- 18:39They look like bums, They look like vaginas.
- 18:43And and he said that's not possible.
- 18:45Then I sent him a picture and he said oh so.
- 18:51Do you think our fear of the Vervoids as I may have stunted
- 18:54our growth as potential heterosexuals?
- 18:57It's a fucking lutely, but my brother was obsessed with them
- 19:05so there we go. So was Fraser.
- 19:11We do need just to pull us back to the the screen of the minute.
- 19:15Yes. To what's happening, it's the
- 19:17Valley Yard has has stopped the recording of of the show to to
- 19:23question why they are, you know, watching the doctor argue about
- 19:27minor's rights and politics and everything.
- 19:30And so you can see where he's going wrong, because we're all
- 19:33watching Terror, the Verboys, and he's watching Colony in
- 19:35Space. Oh, of course.
- 19:39I thought we looked a bit bored. I'm sorry, Fraser.
- 19:43I quite like the star effects. See, I know you can see the
- 19:45fringe a little bit and in the in the gym as well.
- 19:48There's low ankle shots at the gym.
- 19:50Where you can. See the windows.
- 19:51I mean they're the OS stood on the promenade of DS9 waiting for
- 19:55the. It does.
- 19:58Oh, here we go. Now what does this?
- 20:00Mean Mel's going into her brown study, so it's obviously her
- 20:03study painted brown. Oh, OK, is.
- 20:07It. I think Mr. Kimber might be in a
- 20:10bit of a. Brown study.
- 20:11Oh, no, oh, Oh no. That Mugarian?
- 20:15Oh, he's dying. He's doing the hokey cokey and
- 20:17turns around. He's not a McGarry.
- 20:21This is a proper pyro moment, isn't it?
- 20:24It is. The doctor, he's so savvy, he's
- 20:27been figuring it all out. Yes, here's the question for you
- 20:30then. Did either of used to spot that
- 20:34on the first time you watched? It no.
- 20:35No. The other day.
- 20:38But all the clues are there. And I've heard people, you know,
- 20:43yeah, when he goes to the back to the trial room and he goes,
- 20:45oh, you know, the dead McGuire and did not switch on his
- 20:48translator like, oh, stating the obvious, Pip and Jane.
- 20:50No, no, there are like 5 year olds watching this.
- 20:52Yeah. It allows them to feel clever.
- 20:55I was 13, I didn't get it. 1414, I didn't get it.
- 21:00You know, it's nothing about 5 year olds.
- 21:01It's about, you know, it's, it's, it's only obvious because
- 21:04you know, now it's easy enough to.
- 21:07It's like Sasheel Estram. You know he's only obvious
- 21:11because you know, you can spot. I've got.
- 21:13That one phrase I've got so she. Yeah, because you knew about and
- 21:17you watch you. Insult the king.
- 21:19Yeah, it's only obvious because you know about I did that poll
- 21:24and everyone said they were fooled.
- 21:26So. I I'm going to say something
- 21:28negative about this story, though, and that is the fellow
- 21:30who plays Hallett stroke Grenville.
- 21:33He ain't very good, is he? He only gets a couple of lines,
- 21:36but I don't really get the sense that he's been.
- 21:39To Stella Storer. I feel like he's supposed to be
- 21:41like sort of James Bond or the space waves, but I wasn't really
- 21:44getting that vibe. I mean, he's dressed up, he's in
- 21:47costume for half of it, isn't he?
- 21:49So he's dead. Now we don't really get a feel
- 21:51for him, but the doctor admired him.
- 21:55And he was a subtle man. I hear, you know, sledgehammer
- 21:59tactics. Tactics are not like him at all.
- 22:01He was a maverick. This is great would.
- 22:04Say his kind again. It cuts from Raj going you are
- 22:07that just leaves one problem. You know, how did you know?
- 22:10And then it comes to the Valiant.
- 22:11Yes. How did you?
- 22:12Know how did you know? Have you been editing the
- 22:14matrix? And this is good because now the
- 22:17Valiant's on the back foot. He's, he's got a bit of like.
- 22:21But it it gives the Doctor a bit more of his old confidence back.
- 22:27That's and I just love the bit where Colin says and the
- 22:31imposter Mercarian did not switch on his translator.
- 22:36What he says. Oh, have your?
- 22:38Moment of glory. Well, of course he would
- 22:42remember that, being the Doctor himself, you know.
- 22:44Oh, sorry, spoilers. He's not the doctor, he's
- 22:48Michael Grade. Stop it.
- 22:50Does that make Terra De Vervoise the most special Doctor Who
- 22:52story of all time? Because not only is it on the
- 22:55DUV, the Blu-ray set as itself, but also an extended version and
- 23:00a cut down version as well. Well, it's not cut down, is it?
- 23:04It's, it's an alternate version without the trial scenes, but
- 23:09with some of the other scenes put back in.
- 23:11So how it could have been as as a a stand alone story and it
- 23:16stands alone really really well. A multiverse of Vervoy, Yeah.
- 23:22Because the beautiful. New title sequence as well.
- 23:27There's nothing sort of like, you know, in the other two.
- 23:30Obviously Mind Warp was very much around.
- 23:32This is what the Doctor was doing before he was took out for
- 23:35the trial. And there's a lot of sort of
- 23:37backwards and forwards about, you know, what's happening, you
- 23:40know, is the Doctor mind warped or is he evil or is he is the
- 23:45matrix line? And then mysterious planet is,
- 23:47you know, got his stuff with draft was handbag and then all
- 23:51of that. But there's nothing in this,
- 23:53which is sort of like, you know, tying in with my what's going on
- 23:57in the trial. You know it is, just nip it out
- 24:00for the odd interjection to kind of do a bit of exposition or.
- 24:06Don't you love the anecdote told by Eric himself, You know,
- 24:11appalled that Bonnie was cast? So he wrote this really
- 24:15complicated back and forth scene, you know, where she would
- 24:19have to absolutely prove ourselves.
- 24:21And she and Bonnie and Colin came in and fucking aced it.
- 24:25And he said they were terrific together, like.
- 24:27I was really surprised. Because she's good and everyone
- 24:32underestimated her and the show doesn't always give her the
- 24:36material she she deserves. I are.
- 24:39You talking? About now or then so.
- 24:43I'm not talking about. I'm not going to get into now,
- 24:45but you know, I still get so furious with Andrew Cartmel
- 24:49saying, well, she didn't really have much of A character, there
- 24:52wasn't much we could do. But then give her one.
- 24:54It's not difficult. You're the script editor.
- 24:57Give her something to do and she'll do it.
- 24:59Big Finish did it within about four scripts.
- 25:02They've fully fleshed out her. Character you can see Bonnie
- 25:04doing this on screen. I mean, there's there's that bit
- 25:08in time of the Barney where she has to should get paralysed by
- 25:12the tech wraps tongue, you know, and she goes as stiff as and she
- 25:17maintains that absolutely stock stiff.
- 25:21Yeah. You know, as she's getting
- 25:23picked up and carried around the set like like a bit of
- 25:25furniture, She is actually maintaining that.
- 25:28That's how professional she is. You know, she goes into Paradise
- 25:31Towers and goes for a swim eventually and you know, the
- 25:35water is absolutely freezing cool.
- 25:36But you don't think that the Bonnie Langford, because she is
- 25:38100% selling that as a trouble. So, you know, it's there in
- 25:43front of them, you know, give this loss.
- 25:45So yeah. Where the last explosion delta
- 25:47and abandoned, Yeah. Say her reaction to the bus
- 25:49explosion and that seat with Gavrock, Yeah, it's magnificent.
- 25:54You know she's. Really capable of doing it.
- 25:57If you do that, do this scene Hoppin.
- 25:59She would do it Hoppin. I think their default is to go
- 26:02back to the theatrical nature e-mail, because then you can hit
- 26:04Dragonfly and you know, we can always play a game.
- 26:07I suppose I spy or something. And just and JNT wanted a
- 26:11screamer because that's what Doctor Who girls do.
- 26:15They didn't write a scream, Pip and Jane said.
- 26:17They didn't write 1 screen for. Us and they got written in.
- 26:21Yeah, because we're in the situation where we haven't got a
- 26:24script editor and JNT is the script editor and producer of
- 26:28this story. This bit here where they're
- 26:30investigating the pulse together, it's like proper
- 26:33Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Watson, but he's just said to her,
- 26:35there, come on man, you've got a good brain.
- 26:37Think it's so different from what is it?
- 26:40Small though it is, the human brain is quite effective when
- 26:43used properly. That we got in 22.
- 26:46It's all Pip and Jane. It is really Pip and Jane.
- 26:48They. Love him, don't they?
- 26:50They just. Adore him, understand, and
- 26:53because they haven't got a script in it and now it's just
- 26:55Pip and Jane. They want to show him off as
- 26:58well, which I just love. They haven't got anyone sort of
- 27:01like sitting there going. Well, no, actually, yeah.
- 27:05Across that out, you know, Doctor wouldn't say that.
- 27:07And that's too much, Colin. Because we know J&T loves Colin
- 27:14as well, and anchor C is potential.
- 27:18So yeah. Dave Rennie's favorite lines in
- 27:22this episode is where Bruckner goes.
- 27:25Don't you realize what's been unleashed?
- 27:31But this stuff's all great as well.
- 27:32I like the relationships between the scientists here as well, you
- 27:35know, and the power balance. Yeah, and they're all looking at
- 27:38it from from different perspectives, which is is really
- 27:41good. But it's not just like back
- 27:44story for them, it feeds into the plot as well.
- 27:47Where primary. Committing in the name of
- 27:49science will make us infamous. Assuming there's anyone left to
- 27:55pass judgement though, sorry. Oh, and there you can miss my
- 27:57first What's that? In the grill.
- 27:59I don't know, it looks almost vaginal, didn't it?
- 28:03Decided to get some rest Mr. Kimber.
- 28:04I think I might come and murder you now.
- 28:08He reminds me of a sweet old man you know, on the planet of the
- 28:11vampires. He does, yes.
- 28:13Yeah. Can I get you a warm?
- 28:15Can I get you a warm drink of poison?
- 28:19Oh I love POV shots. Look at this.
- 28:22And when he looks straight at the camera and goes, oh.
- 28:26Yeah, he knows how to play this, doesn't he?
- 28:30The funniest story about this actor is what Chris Clough says
- 28:33about on the commentary, where he's put on the compost heap and
- 28:37everyone else gets up afterwards and he's still waiting for
- 28:39someone because. He's not the old school go, come
- 28:41on, get up. But old man.
- 28:42No, he lies there for. Ages.
- 28:44He's falling asleep. Say, look, here's Janet with a
- 28:49coffee. I'm telling you, it's.
- 28:54Oh, it's very funny how the Vervoids know how to use.
- 28:57A shower, but they have to have two hands to.
- 29:01Do it. No opposable digits.
- 29:05Very bad design. It's can't get a.
- 29:08Grip Janet's wiggly Awesome. What's the primatologist doing
- 29:15in a isolation room where your surgical mask?
- 29:19Well, you know, so you've got 2 problems before you get in
- 29:22there. What's that?
- 29:24Well, getting rid of the guard and you could need a mask.
- 29:28You can hardly ask the professor to lend you hers.
- 29:31Yeah, forget I'm going to smash this.
- 29:33OK, he's so great. Then he just literally makes it
- 29:36up. There's people in trouble.
- 29:38Go. Oh look, some masks.
- 29:44I can't, I cannot express how much I love Colin's doctor.
- 29:48Oh, I think we might be in for a cliffhanger here.
- 29:51We might be. Now, is it going to be a crushed
- 29:55human Colin's face or not? Well, if you listen to the
- 29:59episode 1 commentary then you'll know I've.
- 30:02Already blocked that. Out and because this I mean, the
- 30:05isolation room has been set up, but nothing about Ruth's been
- 30:07set up so. That's A and that's a great
- 30:11makeup, isn't it? It's really good, isn't?
- 30:13It. I've not seen a vein throbbing
- 30:15like that since. Well, for us, because sometime.
- 30:18Yeah, yeah, wrong face to zoom into and.
- 30:23Another great scream from Bonnie.
- 30:26Yeah, sometimes you do need a screen, right?
- 30:28Like if Peter Howe ain't going to do it, then Bonnie's there.
- 30:33So we're 2 for two of Screaming Mill cliffhangers.
- 30:36We are. And we are.
- 30:38What is that that? Is 882. 8/2 for crash rooms on
- 30:43common space. Yep, and we are.
- 30:46We're 22 for fucking brilliant cliffhangers for this story.
- 30:50Yep and Yep. And I've just reached the end of
- 30:54my 4 hour cassette tape and I'm going to have to put in another
- 30:58cassette for the for the last 4 episodes of The Trial of a Time
- 31:03Lord. And I'm going to record over
- 31:05Revelation of the Daleks. I'm going to keep Attack of the
- 31:09Cybermen getting rid of Revelation.
- 31:12What a choice. What a conundrum.
- 31:15Oh, it was easy. I decided.
- 31:16I really didn't like Revelation aged 11, but I really loved
- 31:20attacking the Cybermen, so I. Couldn't do it now, Could you do
- 31:23it now? Like wipe out a story that you
- 31:26would never see again and have to choose one to get rid.
- 31:29Of I just didn't have another videotape and this story was so
- 31:33epic. And then brilliantly, episode
- 31:3813, episode 14 was half an hour. So I didn't even get the end of
- 31:41the trial either, but we'll come to that later.
- 31:46Well, before we out this episode, I would like to say
- 31:48that I have been criminally profiling the pair of you whilst
- 31:52talking about episodes. Oh yes.
- 31:54And I've discreetly been asking questions to reveal your your
- 31:59intentions and your whereabouts during the death of David
- 32:03Maskell by that wheel of Charlesburg.
- 32:06Now it's. Come to light, that evidence has
- 32:10emerged. That one of them has got a
- 32:15receipt from. Fortnum and Mason.
- 32:18'S dairy department. Oh damn it.
- 32:23And now I'm going to crash zoom into the.
- 32:26Face of the guilty party. I'll cut it there.
