- 0:00Track cast the Galaxy's Most Unpredictable start Trick podcast. There we are someday.
- 0:26Is that skipping for anybody else or is that just me? Yeah? It
- 0:31was. It was weird. Okay, it was weird. I didn't see
- 0:34it last was the last week or the week before? I think it was
- 0:37the week before. I just didn't see it. Yeah, oh yeah,
- 0:42that's what you're saying. Yeah, because I've listened to last week's episode this
- 0:46morning, like two hours ago. Um, yeah, Bronson starting out hot.
- 0:54I saw Barbie yesterday. All right, what was she wearing? Yeah?
- 1:00I mean if you Margo Robbie, that would be uh, I'd be
- 1:03interested in hearing about that. Yeah. Yeah, now we can hear you,
- 1:08Dan. You couldn't hear me before. Well you were. Yeah.
- 1:15You know what I think when I start, uh stream yard and I already
- 1:19have my my headset plugged in, it doesn't connect and unplug it, unplug
- 1:26it and plug it back in. That that happened a while ago, and
- 1:29uh so I usually remember to do that, and I did. I did
- 1:34I connect the streams. So I hopped in the van and I realized,
- 1:38I'm kind of thirsty. I should have brought a drink out. So I
- 1:42went looking back in like the snack pack that my wife always has in here,
- 1:46and uh I didn't even know they made this anymore. Oh yeah,
- 1:53yeah, wow yeah. So uh today's episode a trick Cast is brought to
- 1:59you by Sunny D. Very nice. It's pretty good. There we go.
- 2:07Now I want to you who I don't know about that? I like
- 2:10this? Yeah I know. I just oh man, bring it back all
- 2:20the purple I was. I was said to myself, how long until someone
- 2:23makes a purple stuff reference empty, say sunny D? So thank you for
- 2:29that. Someone who's been through, who's been through an I rs audit.
- 2:36Uh yeah, I'd rather see the Barbie movie than another I rs audit.
- 2:39I've gone through a few, so no, thank you. The Barbie Movie
- 2:44was hilarious. Well so yeah, I thought it was hilarious. Okay,
- 2:51no, Scott, those are his wife's sunglasses. Come on, come on,
- 2:58they are. I forgot my I forgot mine. So I went through
- 3:02the center console and what else have we got? All right? We have
- 3:09more snacks? Yeah, my kids love this? Not crazy? Oh yeah,
- 3:15oh yeah, we always have pirate booty. Yeah it's gluten free,
- 3:19you bet. Yeah, it's luten free. Yeah, it is gluten free.
- 3:23Yeah, so we have that. That's a bonus. You know what
- 3:25the trick is with those like buff stuff you get them with that chopsticks.
- 3:30You don't get it all over your fingers. Yes, yes, I have
- 3:34a co worker who eats Cheetos with a fork. Yeah. The yeah.
- 3:38Then you can practice all your stuff, right, that's right, practice all
- 3:42eating all your chopsticks. But then you don't get the powder all over you.
- 3:44It's perfect. Yeah, it's good. That's funny, Chad. How
- 3:50is your vacation, Uh, vacation was great. Vacation was great. It
- 3:57was nine days out at the beach east side um Santa Rosa area. It's
- 4:02about halfway between Deston and uh uh Panama, closer to to Panama Beach really
- 4:11in Laguna Beach, which Laguna Beach is gorgeous, by the way, the
- 4:15one's ever been in Florida. It's beautiful. You actually get actual blue water
- 4:18there, like the Emerald blue water there. So I saw some dolphins off
- 4:23the coast a little bit while we were there. Um didn't go out on
- 4:27a boat to do the dolphin excursion thing or any of that kind of stuff.
- 4:30That's too rich for my blood. But we had a good time.
- 4:32We had a good time, so good. So with that, um,
- 4:39let's start with the bad news. Yeah, let's start with the bad news.
- 4:43So, um, yeah, I cannot. I cannot make stlv H
- 4:50now as of Monday of last week. Um, I had to cancel my
- 4:56plans. I had to Yeah, so ancel flights the whole nine yards.
- 5:03So I can't make it. Work is work is extremely busy right now.
- 5:09Work is kind of what's well, work is what's in the way. Yeah.
- 5:13I would have had to reschedule some things work wise and or just fly
- 5:17out, like midday on a Saturday, just to fly out to somewhere else
- 5:21for work midday on a Sunday. That just didn't. I would be absolutely
- 5:29no fun because the week before and the week after is going to be extremely
- 5:32busy for me. We're talking twelve thirteen hour days and traveling and everything else.
- 5:36And I wouldn't be any fun. I would be exhausted. I'd probably
- 5:42just sleep in the damn hotel until I got on a plane. So um,
- 5:46so I just do that. I couldn't do that, and I couldn't
- 5:48thing with work. So I feel like this isn't the first time that I've
- 5:55had to cancel stuff on you guys, and I feel awful. Who please
- 6:00with you guys. It's it's not just it's it's like, man, yeah,
- 6:04it's not it's not just you. I made a baby four years ago
- 6:08and we didn't do it. Yeah. Um, but still the pandemic screwed
- 6:15us two years, two years in a row. Right, So yeah,
- 6:18you you you did screw us two years. But you're tied with the pandemic,
- 6:21so it's okay. Yeah, I'm gonna change my name too. As
- 6:27bad as the pandemic, as bad as the pandemic, I feel like it's
- 6:30not one hundred percent clear for everyone. Uh so, guys, we're not
- 6:34going to ask you'll be none of us. Yeah. Yeah, we we
- 6:36were gonna, we were gonna. We're gonna get there. We're gonna get
- 6:40Yeah. Daniel and I talked about it a little bit and what ultimately stuck
- 6:46a fork in it. As I said to Daniel, as a married father
- 6:50of two small children, it's yeah, Chad nineteen, that's the As a
- 6:58married father with with two children, it's difficult enough for me to justify not
- 7:05to my wife, to myself to justify to myself taking a week and going
- 7:12to adult Disneyland without the family, because that's what Vegas is, It's adult
- 7:16Disneyland. So it's hard enough for me to justify that. It's even harder
- 7:21to attempt to justify it two years in a row because we would want to
- 7:27do it next year with Chad, with the three of us, because that's
- 7:30the goal. The goal is to get the three of us out there.
- 7:34So ultimately I kind of stuck a fork in it um and said, you
- 7:40know, I don't want to do it. I don't want to do sixty
- 7:42six percent of check cast in Las Vegas this this year and zero percent next
- 7:46year, so and I can't go unsupervised. So I needed adult Yeah,
- 8:00getting ah, that's right. Yeah, oh boy, we are. We
- 8:05are super bummed about it. But I think it's the best decision based on
- 8:11the oh Scott freaking guy he's messing with. He's totally trolling on I see
- 8:24me trolling. They hate even though he just he wants you know what,
- 8:31you know what it is he wants He wants your job in the worst way.
- 8:37You're slacking. Hey, you're slacking, And he's like, hey,
- 8:39I can go Dan, did you get his eyes? He said, yeah,
- 8:45I did. It was on the it was you know what it was
- 8:46on the nice paper. Yeah. The watermark said if Scott can you can
- 9:01oh man, Yeah. Actually the watermark says, if Chad can't, Scott,
- 9:07Scott can. Ye exactly. I was just thinking the same exact thing.
- 9:11I was like, Wait, I got a last Sunday Um Rambo,
- 9:20who comes on? Here's who's my controls us? Sometimes in chat? Who's
- 9:22also I do the other podcast with on Sunday nights? Um? Wait,
- 9:26you haven't you have another podcast? No? I do. Yeah, I
- 9:28know, I know. Thanks for covering from me. Chad says, Scott,
- 9:39it's a trick. It's a mutiny, that's right. He couldn't tell
- 9:46what was going on. And so for two weeks in a row, I
- 9:48really hadn't said too much I'm about about this show. But for two weeks
- 9:52in a row there he knew I was gone because because we weren't doing that
- 9:54show. I wasn't doing that show either, and uh. He listens to
- 9:58the last week's showing. In the first thirty seconds, Dan makes a comment
- 10:01about or getting someone getting fired, but there's no mention after that of me,
- 10:05and he's like, I guess you got fired And I said, yeah,
- 10:09well you don't show up two weeks in a row. They replace you
- 10:11on that show. It's brutal. And he goes, all right, so
- 10:13I should do the same thing, and I said, riff, that's awesome.
- 10:20So oh man, oh well, yeah, since we're talking about s
- 10:24TLV, we should get to the news and we'll start. Okay, okay,
- 10:28So let's do that, all right. So our first news story is
- 10:35just some updates on STLV. It is, yes, still happening, It
- 10:37is still going on. We have had some uh new cancelations. The biggest
- 10:43one is Jack Quaid will not be there, so Sidler will not be there.
- 10:48That's too bad. Yeah. Um. Also, I love to meet
- 10:52that guy, honestly. Yeah. I think I've said famously before. I
- 10:54don't really care to meet these actors. I'd want to meet the characters they
- 10:58play. I have a few exceptions to those rules. He's one of them.
- 11:01Yeah, he seems like an interesting guy. He does you know something?
- 11:07I love the boys too, So yeah, something from the uh the
- 11:11crossover that didn't hit me until later on, was at the end of that
- 11:16episode, like Jack Quaite, he plays Ransom. All right, yeah,
- 11:20yeah, yeah, Jack Quaite is Boiler who plays Ransom. Oh that's that's
- 11:33yeah. Jerry O'Connor okay, yeah, so when Jerry O'Connell sees the poster
- 11:37of Una, he comments about how she's the hottest baby in the universe or
- 11:41something. Yeah, he's married, he's married to her in real life.
- 11:45Yeah, yeah, exactly. I didn't catch. I didn't catch the first
- 11:48time. Yeah. Also, um, uh, bowing out, we shall
- 11:54say is Neelix, Ethan Phillips and Ronald D. Moore. So I have
- 11:58a feeling they're all going to be bowed out by the time we get to
- 12:01that day. Well that was my suspicion. But there was a smaller convention
- 12:07on the East Coast this weekend and a lot of the Star Trek people were
- 12:11there. Um, Terry Farrell and Dax was there. M Jeffrey Colmbs was
- 12:16there. Okay, those are two people who aren't tied to anything current though,
- 12:20No they are, They're still in the in the unions. Well I
- 12:26guess that's true because it SAG is just SAG, not just track. Okay.
- 12:28Yeah, so yeah, and a few others were still at conventions,
- 12:35so as is Zachary Quinto was just announced to be joining STLV this year.
- 12:41He had not been previously announced, so he's clearly still in the unions.
- 12:46So that's weird. Yeah, he's going to be doing interesting kind of different
- 12:50guy. Yeah, he's different. We would have been cool, and I'm
- 12:56sorry we missed out on this. They're doing photos with him, Ethan Peck.
- 13:00You can get the two spots together. That would have been kind of
- 13:03cool. That's weird. Yeah, no, that's cool. Um, but
- 13:09yeah, I I honestly, when I think of Spock anymore. Obviously,
- 13:13I still think of Leonard Nimoy, but I really think of Ethan Pac more
- 13:16than zach Quinto. By far, by far, Ethan Pac is so good
- 13:20at it. His creepy ass smile. Uh. In the in the in
- 13:26the Crossover episode was in Boiler's reaction. I mean, I was laughing.
- 13:31I had I had air pods in while I was watching that episode. Yeah,
- 13:33it last night because I finally caught up with the last two, that
- 13:37one in the in the in the Cloak one dude, and uh, I
- 13:41was laughing so hard and my wife was like, what are you watching?
- 13:43I couldn't even hear and she finally comes down to test my shoulders, like,
- 13:46what are you watching? She's looking at the screen. She can't tell
- 13:50what the hell I'm watching because of the you know, it's crossover. It's
- 13:52like, who's that guy? I've never seen him before, and I'm like
- 13:54over it's Lower Deck and Strange New Worlds. It's hilarious. I've never heard
- 13:58you laugh at Star Trek like this. Yeah, oh, you've never watched
- 14:03me watch lower Next, then I mean, what she hasn't because I usually
- 14:05watched that in a hotel room or something, right, right, But yeah,
- 14:11no, I think people will still be there. There's a handful that
- 14:15are bowing out, and there might be still more. But yeah, so
- 14:18I have a question about that. This is a so so I'll I was
- 14:20finally, I was the audience for this show for the last two two and
- 14:24a half weeks, right, yeah, yeah, So, why in the
- 14:28hell is Michelle Hurt a big deal in the SAG union because she's the because
- 14:33she was elected, Yes, she was elected to a board position, that's
- 14:37all. Yeah, the same reason you have. You know, if the
- 14:43auto workers, you know, have a union, you know, why is
- 14:48the guy who puts the wheels on the president because everyone else voted for him,
- 14:52that she must be she must be a hell of a nice lady and
- 14:56a hell of a good act actress and we've just never noticed it because I
- 15:01can't stand RAFFI. That's yeah. Yeah. In all her interviews she's great,
- 15:09seem like a verse, you know, not not to not to uh
- 15:13belittle her, but you know, she's a mid level actress. She has
- 15:22the time. No, I'm serious, she has Scott's thing oh talking about
- 15:30yeah, but she has the time for a position like this. Tom Hankses
- 15:35doesn't have the time to be the president of of SAG. I mean,
- 15:41I think what wasn't Ronald Reagan SAG president? I think he was a former
- 15:46at one president. Yeah, yeah, you know, and Ronald Reagan was
- 15:50a you know, he was a mid level actor. He wasn't you know,
- 15:54he wasn't actor. What was his best movie Dinner for Bobo or something
- 15:58like that. Oh, I don't know if the Champion did a movie with
- 16:00the with the Chimp anyway, as before they did see g I jims,
- 16:07Yeah this is back in my day. Yeah yeah, but no. Um.
- 16:10Also, like Michelle Hurt has been a guest are in a lot of
- 16:12shows so she probably knows a lot of people. I just never even heard
- 16:17of her before. Until there's a million of those actors you've never heard of
- 16:21that have been everywhere. You know, they get they get a salary for
- 16:25that too. It's not a volunteer thing. Yeah, you make not the
- 16:30richest if you're not the richest actor in Hollywood, but you have the time
- 16:37to do it, right, I mean why not? Yeah? Yeah,
- 16:41all right makes sense. And our next news story comes to us from Star
- 16:45Trek Movie or Trek movie dot com, and a paramount executive vows that this
- 16:52will not be the end of Star Trek. Prodigy talks of season two.
- 16:56Yeah, I know what it's like. They don't even know what they're talking
- 17:00about anymore. No, they have no direction over there. Sixty days ago,
- 17:06it was, you know, the home of Star Trek every series,
- 17:08every episode. They stopped saying that recently, recently, and then they're like,
- 17:14nope, it's it's out. And now nope, this is not the
- 17:18end of it. I haven't talk about here. I have a theory to
- 17:22that. They Okay, go ahead, I'm saying we could do that.
- 17:30I mean, I could tell you why. I'm just trying to be Alex
- 17:33Jones over here. We're let's see if my theory lines up with your truth
- 17:41the truth, right, yeah, because I only get my news from you,
- 17:44so I haven't read anything, right, So that's I'm being serious,
- 17:47Like I joke about that, guys, but honestly, I never like,
- 17:51I have one podcast I listened to for new stuff and Daniel that's it.
- 17:53I'm serious, Carlson and Daniel. Yes, no, no, no,
- 18:02it's not Tucker, but but good one. David Zachs. It's the All
- 18:04In podcast. They are. I love those guys. They're great anyway.
- 18:11So my theory is is that when they started touting that with the everything for
- 18:18track, every episode, every movie, whatever, that they started touting that
- 18:23before the whole sag thing happened, before all of the strikes stuff happened,
- 18:29before the writer stuff got into into an issue, all of that, right,
- 18:33is when they were touting that, and as soon as all those things
- 18:36started coming into play, that's when they stopped. And I think there's an
- 18:40issue there somewhere somehow that keeps them from being able to say that or do
- 18:45that, or continue to push everything into one bundle area with that whole,
- 18:51with that whole issue. Damn, my computer is gonna die. Probably you're
- 18:53gonna I don't know what's going on. It's given me errors anyway, so
- 18:56if I go away and come back. That's my theory on that end of
- 19:00it, is that somehow those two are tied. It's too coincidental. And
- 19:03it also still makes sense regardless of Paramount plus issues, right, and actually
- 19:07more so with monetary issues. If there's something tied in copyright legally's whatever with
- 19:17either the SAG union right or strike the wholeline yards that, then that then
- 19:21somehow gets all of that other stuff involved. That even just makes more sense.
- 19:23Why they put a pause on it for now. So they have pulled
- 19:27it completely from their streaming service. Right, you cannot see Prodigy anymore.
- 19:32It's not on Paramount. I don't. I don't mean just Prodigy, I
- 19:33mean the whole thing. Oh okay, yes, yes, Prodigy included,
- 19:37but I mean, like the whole thing. I don't think Prodigy was popular.
- 19:40That's why they got rid of it. Yeah, clearly, I mean
- 19:41that's had had to be what it is. But um, what the executive
- 19:47was talking about is and they've said this like a month ago when they first
- 19:48pulled it is that they're trying to find a new home for it. The
- 19:52season two is pretty much done, like they're they're just wrapping up the last
- 19:56ends. It's been not shot. It's a cartoon, but you know,
- 20:00produced the voice, all the voice work is done, it's edited. Basically,
- 20:06it's pretty much done. So, I mean, they could throw it
- 20:08up on Paramount Plus by the fall and be fine, but they're they're not
- 20:12going to do that. They're going to take the tax break and remove it.
- 20:17What they're hoping to do is sell it to another streamer and make money
- 20:21off of it. They wasn't wanting to just pick it up and pay for
- 20:25it. Apparently not. So it wasn't popular enough for Nickelodeon UM, which
- 20:30means, guys, guess what you should freaking walk away from it? Like
- 20:32stop? Yeah, well, animation takes so long to produce. They do
- 20:37it pretty far in advance, so it's typical most cartoons get two seasons because
- 20:41they're banking on it being a success. So it wasn't. So now they're
- 20:47looking for a new home. My thought is this, when they first started
- 20:52Discovery and Piccard, they were making good money internationally selling it to parent our
- 20:59Prime and Netflix, and they did make a lot of money doing that.
- 21:02Then they roped everything together into Paramount. Plus they're losing money hand over fists,
- 21:06just like every other streamer, and so now they're panicking, just like
- 21:08every other streamer, and so they're gonna try to go back and sell it
- 21:12to make money. That seems to make sense for what they've done. You
- 21:17also have to remember they're losing Discovery soon, they've lost Picard. It's lower
- 21:22Decks and Strange New Worlds is all that's left. So that's kind of where
- 21:29we're at with things. But yeah, the the executive basically just says,
- 21:34guys, it's a great show, we love it, and we're going to
- 21:37try to find a new home for it. That's why he's saying. People
- 21:40have not seen the end of it. So all right, And then our
- 21:48last news story comes to us from Giant freaking robot dot com. Normally I
- 21:52would avoid these or just tell you it's a rumor, but this is kind
- 21:56of funny because they're taking a oh I guess now. An ex post,
- 22:00not a tweetum from writer Michael jan Freeman, who wrote a lot of novels.
- 22:08Back during Star Trek, the motion picture that kind of time frame.
- 22:14He was given a bunch of He says, back then, he was given
- 22:18a bunch of Gene Roddenberry's kind of unfinished works and told to make something out
- 22:25of it, to make a novel. And so he said, basically like
- 22:30he was excited because he you know, he loved Jean Roddenberry, but this
- 22:33material he was given was just really, really bad, and and they wanted
- 22:40to make a novel called The God Thing, And basically what it was is
- 22:45some sort of using God versus the Enterprise, and the climax would have been
- 22:52Kirk has a fist fight with an alien who has taken the image of Jesus.
- 22:57So Kirk, oh my god, yeah, nice, Yeah, So
- 23:04I thought that was just goofy and weird, and it's real. It's from
- 23:08Gene Roddenberry's unused writings, so well as what's his name from the documentary.
- 23:15He said, sometimes Jean's ideas were whackadoodle yep, and there you go.
- 23:22Yeah that. Friedman also went on to say, He's like, you know,
- 23:26I love Roddenberry, but this stuff was just so bad. Well,
- 23:30I mean, so the question the question is, though, why does Jesus
- 23:36need a starship? I mean, what kind of fighting style does Jesus use
- 23:41uti No, he uses the Vulcan neck pinch. That's all he needs to
- 23:48do is touch you. And um, well, I mean his father was
- 23:52a Jewish carpenter, so I would say you do there. Yeah. Yeah,
- 24:03he's slow. He's slow in the typing. He was typing and you
- 24:07said it, and then he's like, screw it, I'm gonna hit in
- 24:08or anyway, I'm gonna do it anyway. Well, there's a slight delay
- 24:12between us and what the chat sees like thirty seconds it is. Yeah,
- 24:18all right, that's all the news stories. Okay, excellent, okay.
- 24:22Oh, by the way, everybody, you're listening to Trick Cast, the
- 24:25Galaxy's Most Unpredictable start right podcast. I'm back. It's Chad and of course
- 24:30Daniel and Dan, so right, twenty five minutes in and we're doing the
- 24:34intro. Good job all right now? Oh boy, it reminds me of
- 24:49our first couple of episodes, which I now want to go back and listen
- 24:53to. I mean, not why I did that. Recently. I went
- 24:57back in this and listened uh like the first or second episode, and um,
- 25:04yeah, yeah it was we're having fun yeah, it was very good.
- 25:15So we just had season two, episode eight, under the Cloak of
- 25:18War. Um Man, this was a heavy episode. It was it was
- 25:26heavy. It was heavy. Um just what you want right before the musical?
- 25:33Yeah right, yeah, you know what would have been amazing this if
- 25:37this was the musical. Imagine this story but they're singing it, just singing
- 25:41about war crimes. Yep, come on, take some risks, Paramount.
- 25:45There we go. Yeah, John has nightmares. Yeah exactly. Um,
- 25:55I thought it was a all of this stuff. Let's so let's just talk
- 25:57about him Banga for a minute, right. He is such a fascinating character.
- 26:04He is not like any other character. I don't think he's like any
- 26:08other character we've seen on Trek. I know, his voice is hard.
- 26:11Sometimes it's difficult to hear. It's such a unique, deep, gravely kind
- 26:17of soft but hard voice. It's fantastic. I could listen to him read
- 26:22a children's book and put me to sleep. But he's also a scary dude,
- 26:26like he is a He's a very different um character of any Trek character
- 26:32we've really ever had in terms of the way they're putting in the depth and
- 26:37the backstory and what he's done. Now I want to question one part of
- 26:41that though, as far as him being the ghost of Bengal, we have
- 26:47the lines. Yeah, sorry, yeah, yeah. So the log line
- 26:55is Captain Pike and his crew welcome a clingon defector on board the USS Enterprise,
- 27:00but his presence triggers the revelation of some shocking secrets. Yeah, so
- 27:04that's it. It's a great episode, don't get me wrong, But I'm
- 27:07gonna pick a few things apart that I have an issue with. I like
- 27:10him Benga, I like his backstory. I like who he is and what
- 27:12he's done. I think it's all. It's all a really fantastic arc for
- 27:17a doctor. Right. However, they keep building up how traumatic this war
- 27:23was and how traumatized people are. It's a two weak freaking war or something
- 27:30like. They didn't didn't last that damn long. From what we got of
- 27:33it in Discovery, it was it didn't last very long. I know,
- 27:37man, that first season Discovery seems to last forever. That's true, but
- 27:42I mean like, it was short. It was a short war. It
- 27:45was not a long war. And every time they talk about it in Strange
- 27:48New Worlds, they make it sound like it was this hell nightmare, and
- 27:52I'm sure it was even if it was for you know, the one day
- 27:55that they had hell right, But I mean, there's a weird position there.
- 28:00But it was very war. It was a war with Klingons, who
- 28:03do not fight wars the way that others fight wars, okay, And they
- 28:08made mention of it in this episode where the guy was saying, they just
- 28:11wouldn't let me die. They just wouldn't let me die. They maimed him
- 28:17and kept him alive, made sure that he felt pain. And they've even
- 28:21discussed this in past series when they were preparing for the Klingons to invade Deep
- 28:26Space nine, they were briefing the star fleet officers and telling them Klingons prefer
- 28:32to use edged weapons, which means they enjoy what they're doing. They enjoy
- 28:38inflicting pain and damage upon the enemy. So even if you had star Fleet
- 28:45officers there who had been in other wars, I think the point was this
- 28:51is not a war like any other war they fought because it's Klingons. Sure,
- 28:56And I would say, Chad, the length of something doesn't equate to
- 29:02the amount of trauma that yes is done. Like people can lose somebody close
- 29:07to them, right, that death is a quick thing, but that trauma
- 29:11can last for a long time. Yes, right, so that that doesn't
- 29:15make a difference. I suppose I suppose so. Um, But yeah,
- 29:22it was a brutal war. They all had a hard time with it.
- 29:26Um. I watched the Will Wheaton show, of course. Uh. They
- 29:29interviewed in Benga and or Tegas. Both really great interviews. Typically I tell
- 29:34you guys to avoid that show, but both those interviews are really great.
- 29:38Um. What we learned was in real life, Babs the actor who plays
- 29:42in Benga, knows Brazilian jiu jitsu and is is pretty good at it,
- 29:48So that's cool. And then um Erica who or or take Us, the
- 29:53actress who plays take Us. Um. What was interesting that you talked to
- 30:00man that that interview was really sad. She lost her partner in between seasons.
- 30:07So season one her partner was there with her, Um Brian, and
- 30:11then season two he was gone, and so talked a lot about how,
- 30:17especially in this episode, there were a lot of times like she was just
- 30:22a wreck and then had to pull herself together to shoot a scene and then
- 30:26went right back to being a wreck because everything was still fresh for her.
- 30:32Yeah. Yeah, that's tough. Yeah. So so I have some questions
- 30:41story wise, things that um, I'm not sure quite makes sense to me.
- 30:49And maybe i'm and maybe I'm just not processing it right. But uh
- 30:53and Banga is a doctor, huh right, But they lead us to believe
- 31:00he has this past where he is this special forces assassin badass, and I
- 31:12can't make those two things merge in my head. How is how is he
- 31:19a doctor and an assassin? I don't I don't understand. And if so,
- 31:25how long ago? They make it sound like, well that's what I
- 31:26used to do, but now I'm a doctor. Okay? So how much
- 31:30time passed between your assassin days and you're in the beginning of your doctoring days?
- 31:36And what war was that? Was that a different war? Was it
- 31:42the same war? Has it been going on longer than than? Then?
- 31:47We think? What's what's the make it? Make it makes sense for me?
- 31:51Please? So there's two ways you can look at it, right,
- 31:53Okay. So there's there's the way I look at it, which I think
- 31:56is probably the right way. Then there's the way to look at it,
- 31:59where I think is what paramount or whatever executives will wind up doing which is
- 32:02which is okay, but it's the wrong way. So the right way is
- 32:07is he was part of a special Forces unit and he was a medic or
- 32:10he was a trained medic of some kind, was very very good at it
- 32:14and was able to do that whatever he was doing on the special Forces side
- 32:17while he was becoming a doctor at the same time, because he's clearly extremely
- 32:22smart, right, So I think it's more of a he was the guy
- 32:27who would patch you up in the field kind of thing, not just a
- 32:29straight assassin all solo kind of stuff. But he was also very good at
- 32:32it while doing the dual track of winding up being a doctor. And you
- 32:37know, you learn a lot when you're in the field and you're just trying
- 32:39to save someone's freaking life, right, So I think those things can both
- 32:44be true. And he is an older guy in the show, or plays
- 32:46a little bit of older character in the show, So I think there's plenty
- 32:49of time in the past to have had those parallel tracks. Yeah, in
- 32:52early twenties he was old, Yeah, exactly so, and for it to
- 32:57shift completely because he didn't because of everything that he says, right, So
- 33:00it could have been a very short amount of time, as we just said
- 33:02a minute ago. Short time, but very traumatic. Um it also where
- 33:06he's very good at it and then decided he just couldn't do that anymore and
- 33:08then moved he maybe yeah, it could have been twenty years in the past.
- 33:14Who knows. Um he also developed that serrium. We come to find
- 33:17out that he's the one who developed that, right, And so this goes
- 33:20back to my thought process of these dual tracks. And he's very smart and
- 33:24he's doing all these things. Yeah, a military doctor mash kind of thing.
- 33:28Sure, Darryl, Yeah, no, I get that. But you
- 33:30know Clinger wasn't running out there and and mowing down enemy troops. Yeah no,
- 33:37no, you're you're in the military, but you are a doctor.
- 33:39The other the other. So that's the way I think it probably should be
- 33:44written, and just think of it that way. But I think with the
- 33:46paramount people exect people, whatever will wind up doing is somehow put it in
- 33:52there that he's the reason. All that's true is because he was a part
- 33:55of Section thirty one. That's what I was going to say, that's what
- 33:59they're gonna do, which I don't want to hear him do every season.
- 34:01Now he has to have an episode where he is suffering horribly, right,
- 34:06because last year he's the miles of Brian. Yeah, well they all are.
- 34:10Yeah, um, because last season was a daughter, this season is
- 34:15this. So next season it'll be his section thirty one recruiter shows up and
- 34:20test him in some way. Yeah. So they kind of cheapened a later
- 34:24episode with with what they did here. So it's the twenty fourth century where
- 34:32we find out that in the twenty third century, Scottie locked himself in the
- 34:38transporter for eighty years and was able to survive. And it was just amazing.
- 34:44It was this amazing thing that no one had ever thought of. But
- 34:46because Scotti is so amazing, he you know, he criss crossed these two
- 34:51wires and figured out how to do it. Then we come to find out
- 34:53that Embanga was doing it, you know, a few years earlier, decades
- 35:00earlier, um, and you know, okay, he kept it a secret
- 35:04because he developed it to save his daughter and it was a secret that she
- 35:07was stuck in the transporter anyway. And then this this episode, which is
- 35:13a few years earlier than that, you find out that, yeah, I
- 35:16do this all the time. Everybody knows how to do this. Just load
- 35:20him into the buffer and then delete the transport and he'll just sit there with
- 35:23the hourglass spinning until we call him back out right, So the kind of
- 35:30cheapen the later things by doing I mean, I agree with that, But
- 35:36when I how you break that down, I do agree with you. Dan.
- 35:38However, when I was watching the episode, I didn't get that as
- 35:43a takeaway with how he worded it to Chapel, I gave I took that
- 35:46away as he wasn't saying that he tells everybody that, And I don't think
- 35:51he ever says that everybody knows how to do that. I think, but
- 35:54he didn't. He didn't hide it from her. No, he didn't hide
- 35:58it from her because they had a close relation. Chip that's they knew each
- 36:02other a day and a half. Well, we don't know how much time
- 36:06it progressed there on that on that planet, with all those little cut scenes
- 36:08back and forth when they're there. I think they were establishing that over time
- 36:13that he'd be I mean, these two have a deep relationship now in the
- 36:16current time of the show, Okay, so I think they were. It
- 36:21could have been a few weeks but again, as Dan said before, time
- 36:23doesn't really matter. It's the trauma instant, right. They probably became very
- 36:28close allies in that camp pretty quickly, and he's trusting her to do something,
- 36:32but he's also later on showing her that we're doing it to save lives
- 36:37until we can't do it to save lives, and he hits the button and
- 36:42kills that guy. If this is a technique that is known to medical professionals,
- 36:47this is this is a potentially life saving technique that we can do.
- 36:52If you can't treat them now, you lock them in the pattern buffer until
- 36:55you can. The idea that they would then keep that to them selves for
- 37:00decades, yeah, it's unrealistic. Point one of them would immediately write a
- 37:06paper on it and submit it for publication. Yeah yeah, yeah, it's
- 37:13like some sort of medical Yeah, don't treat your patients, just put them
- 37:16in the transporter buffer until here comes out. Well, now, if they
- 37:21come in on Saturday, you put them in the buffer, you treat them
- 37:23on Monday. Yeah. Well, and honestly, great way to get out
- 37:27of your first the weekend. You know, Dan, Honestly, I don't
- 37:30think it cheapens it because he did that to his daughter as well. He
- 37:34kept her in the buffer. I think it cheapens the episode of TNG episode
- 37:40Relics, where where a hundred and something years later Jordy who knows everything about
- 37:50transporters, It's like you did what? Yeah, yeah, well it's a
- 37:53rewrite of history for sure. They've given themselves that out now that yeah,
- 38:00can change everything and anything, and that's true. Yeah, that's true.
- 38:04That's true, Pavel, doctor Freeze did that for his wife. What about
- 38:07Cryo? That's true. He was just jilling diamonds and giving his wife alive.
- 38:14That Yeah, that's what it is. Happy Hour starts in twenty but
- 38:17this procedure takes an hour into the buffer. You go, picture Darth Vader
- 38:29on Best Spin where you just put him in. Yeah, it'd be like
- 38:37what was that movie with Arnold Schwartz and Running Man right where it's a competition
- 38:39now for who who dies and all that. This could be like the thing
- 38:43like a dystopian future where the doctors have a big spinning wheel. I don't
- 38:45know, do we treat him or do we put him in the buffer or
- 38:50find out tonight? So this kling On guy. Yeah, it was a
- 38:59little tough to find that. That's the other thing. I you know,
- 39:05when you have to concentrate to understand the story, it kind of annoys me
- 39:10a little bit. So he was, he was the general, and the
- 39:15way, the way history recorded it, he killed his own men. Correct
- 39:20because for what? For what purpose? Because they failed and could not keep
- 39:24that area in Starfleet one. Okay, So because they failed, he killed
- 39:30them, and that's what history recorded. But what really happened is and Benga
- 39:35killed all his men while he ran away, correct, yes, okay,
- 39:39And the shame he felt for retreating caused him to change his life and try
- 39:47to become a vessel of peace. And I'm making a cringing face yea for
- 39:54those watching the audio listening to the audio, that just that that doesn't makes
- 40:00sense. No, My my takeaway from it was, yes, he was
- 40:05running away because he was going to get killed by Membanka, but he got
- 40:12caught and they lost. So and because he he got caught by the Federation,
- 40:20because because because Starfleet won that battle, won, that won that moon
- 40:23planet. Whatever the hell they're on yea, whatever they did, they say
- 40:25that he was caught. I didn't. Yeah, yeah, they said he
- 40:29was certainly caught. Yeah, oh yeah. At one point in the show
- 40:31they do say that he was caught, so that I watched it twice and
- 40:37I missed that. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I heard that he was caught.
- 40:40My thought is that he was running from the truth and if he had
- 40:45stayed with the Klingons, they would have done some sort of investigation to figure
- 40:49out why he killed those people or whatever, and the truth would have come
- 40:52out, and that shame would have killed him, right literally, they would
- 40:58have killed him for cowardice, because that's the Klingons do. So by being
- 41:01a diplomat and searching for peace, he could at least keep his life and
- 41:07be you know what the Clingons would call a coward. But he's a trader
- 41:10at that point. He's a trader to to the Klingons, so he is,
- 41:15but he's also alive and renowned and catered to and seen and seen as
- 41:22a butcher by his own people, and right, I just don't see.
- 41:29It doesn't make sense for me why the Federation would make this person an ambassador
- 41:38to speak on their behalf, just does. It just doesn't make sense because
- 41:44he's reformed and they want to show that the Klingons can actually work with one.
- 41:49You know that that's their whole the Future Wars. That's which is why
- 41:55it's which it doesn't. I know, I don't buy it either, and
- 41:59neither do the characters on the show like Mambanga and Chapel and Ortegas. They
- 42:04don't buy it either, right, and they're correct because he's a fraud,
- 42:08right, this is correct. Imagine Okay, just I'm gonna put it in
- 42:15perspective. Okay, even though he's dead, imagine, imagine he was still
- 42:19alive. Osama bid Lan says he's sorry. M and the United States makes
- 42:28him an ambassador to Saudi Arabia. M hm. Does that make one iota
- 42:38of sense anywhere in your head? No, it doesn't. And I'm not
- 42:44saying that. The writing, Okay, it was. It was good,
- 42:47and that's what I'm saying. Yeah, the storyline, we can agree on
- 42:52that. Yeah, the storyline reason wasn't great. But where they took it
- 42:57from there I really liked. I like that twist that it was a mega
- 43:00that who was actually the butcher. I thought that was great and really well
- 43:04handled, because up until that point of the episode, I was like,
- 43:06yeah, this is fine, but I wasn't loving it. But as soon
- 43:08as they did that turn, I thought it was great. It's one of
- 43:14those things where they made this decision to make him, uh the Federation ambassador
- 43:20to Chronos, and the story falls apart whereaf instead he was the Klingon ambassador
- 43:28to Earth and they were escorting him to a state dinner on Vulcan or whatever.
- 43:36That totally makes sense. M. The idea that they they, you
- 43:40know, make him working for the Federation, that's just where it falls apart
- 43:44from me. M. You gotta put up what Pobble said. I didn't
- 43:49real I was. It's true. It's true, though, No, not
- 43:53really, it's true. It's true if you know that if it whatever the
- 44:00in and whatever, dude, the lab was making that kind of stuff.
- 44:04Yeah, that's a funny state. It's just a funny statement. This is
- 44:07why we blast oh for crying out loud for making a joke. That's a
- 44:15lot of them anyways. Uh So the episode, Yeah, I liked it
- 44:23a lot, man, I did. I enjoyed it. Oh, I
- 44:28enjoyed it too. I enjoyed it too, Don't get me wrong. There
- 44:30were just some some there were some writing hiccups that seemed like we're easy fixes.
- 44:38Yeah, yeah, I think so, I think so um and and
- 44:43I and I gotta, I gotta you know how much I loved the episode
- 44:46palmon Light and I gotta, I got a palmon Light vibe. Yeah,
- 44:52when in Benga, it was like he you know, he started it.
- 44:58Yeah, but I'm glad he's dad. Yeah. Oh yeah, for sure,
- 45:01Yeah, for sure. And I enjoy you know, I like when
- 45:07they put I like when they put our characters in interesting situations. Okay,
- 45:15and Benga and Pike have known each other for a long time, so much
- 45:21so that they call each other by the first name, their first names.
- 45:25They talk about how much time they've they've spent together. And Pike is the
- 45:32captain and the ship. He is one thousand percent in charge. But at
- 45:37the same time, you weren't there, man, Yeah, you weren't there.
- 45:42Yeah, So don't talk to me about certain things or tell me how
- 45:46I should feel about certain things. You're the captain of the ship, but
- 45:50you weren't there. Yeah, because the Enterprise and Pike and the entire crew
- 45:52were totally am I a right for the entire war. So we're niceless and
- 46:00I and I and I like seeing the juxtaposition of not only the captain of
- 46:06the ship, the highest guy on the ship wasn't there, But O'Hora wasn't
- 46:12there either, And you can see her enthusiasm in having this cling on general
- 46:21slash diplomat on the ship. She's genuinely excited about it. And I'm benga
- 46:27Ortega Chapel there. You know, they want no part of it. Well,
- 46:32what I liked too, is they they you know, the episode basically
- 46:36said that both point of views were completely valid, Like, yeah, he
- 46:39did horrible things and shouldn't you know, shouldn't be trusted to be in the
- 46:44position that he's in. But at the same time, people should get a
- 46:46chance to you know, get a second chance. So it's kind of hard.
- 46:52You didn't see that, Dan, Oh No, no, I saw
- 46:54that. I'm saying I don't. I was making a face for those listening.
- 46:58Um, I saw that. I understand the reference. I don't necessarily
- 47:01agree with it. Not everybody deserves a second chance. I think that's what
- 47:07the episode. I agree. Yeah, yeah, I think that's what the
- 47:09episode was saying. Is like, what remind me of this episode Most Toys
- 47:16Data definitely tried to shoot the guy from Most Time. Yeah, oh,
- 47:20yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Well he's a you know, he's
- 47:22a machine. And he made a calculation and he said, there's no way
- 47:25I'm getting out of this. It's no way I'm getting out of this unless
- 47:29I kill this guy. And yeah, he's gonna he's gonna continue to do
- 47:31bad things. So my one bad thing is going to prevent an infinite number
- 47:36of other bad things. So I'm gonna shoot that guy, right right,
- 47:43All right, um, well, next week we have the musical episode,
- 47:47and then we have one more after that, right right, and that's it.
- 47:52Yeah, and then Lower Deck starts up in September. Yeah, September
- 47:58seventh. I saw that. Yeah, so chat, I know you're very
- 48:00excited for the musical episode. Not at all. Uh yeah, I've got
- 48:10some feedback on it, so I don't yeah excited about it either. Yeah,
- 48:17let's get into feedback. Hey, hey, hey, uh so I
- 48:30did put on a um a poll on the Instagram account and all the social
- 48:35media's overall, it's funny. The the the actual comments is far and away.
- 48:42I'm not excited about this thing at all. Oh but but when I
- 48:45did a poll in the stories far and away, it's I can't wait for
- 48:49this thing. So I thought that was interesting. Um, but yeah,
- 48:58I'm not a musical guy, so I'm not Yeah, I don't know.
- 49:05It depends on how they work it into the story, how they justify it.
- 49:09Yeah, in the story. I will say this if you if you
- 49:15were to tell me, hey, there's gonna be a Star Trek episode about
- 49:19baseball, right, I'd be like, man, that's so dumb. Why
- 49:22would there be so excited? Right? But not MESI right, but that's
- 49:29one of my favorite episodes, right, funny, So so like I want
- 49:35to stay optimistic that, you know, maybe I'll be surprised. I also
- 49:38think it had we gone down to LV, every one of those songs would
- 49:42be screaming down all the corridors. Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 49:49So I do like your guys a suggestion though, where if it if it's
- 49:52music from all genres, right, like we should see a Pike rap and
- 49:55we should see uh I want spake Western spok. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 50:02actually it should be hipster spok. If anything, you should be doing a
- 50:06hipster song. But but uh you should sing push but Massbox twenty there you
- 50:13go, yeah, yeah, some Bush there you go. So we've got
- 50:19people waiting to talk, but I think you've got a voicemail shod I got
- 50:22multiple um snap stuff, but it's from weeks and weeks. We're gonna play
- 50:29the latest. Okay, let's do the latest. Here we go. Who's
- 50:36it from? Uh? How I trick fans? It's ten, I see,
- 50:42And just wanted to give my pennies worth about this week's episode in Strange
- 50:46New World Under the Cloak of War, episode eight. I've really enjoyed this.
- 50:53I really like this. This. I think it's what we've been waiting
- 50:59for in season to personally, I think the exception of last week's episode,
- 51:02the Crossover one, which was a bit of fun, it's been a poor
- 51:07season, but this, to me was how I like Star Trek problem made
- 51:13you think, you know in fact, so much so that I didn't really
- 51:16have many criticisms about it. I'm sure they're there, but when you're enjoying
- 51:23something, you don't notice these things. When you're when you don't enjoy something
- 51:29and you're finding it boring, you're looking for all the shit that's in these
- 51:32episodes. But I really enjoyed this one. Just I just wanted to make
- 51:37a couple of quick observations that I wrote down. I still think the script
- 51:43didn't need a bit of work sometimes with the big thing that popped out was
- 51:47there was a Linry says he gave orders to kill on site after they've been
- 51:54tortured, Which doesn't make sense. When you kill some one on the site,
- 52:00you kill him as soon as you see them. You don't talk to
- 52:01them first and then kill them on site. That's not how it works.
- 52:07And yes, meat for the grinder. I noticed that a lot of these
- 52:14the guy who went back out to the war, they were dressed in red,
- 52:17and you just knew that wasn't going to end up well. This armor
- 52:21that they wear in the war is it was red, and you just knew
- 52:22it wasn't going to end up well, didn't you. Um. I love
- 52:28him, Benger. He's turning into one of my favorite characters. I just
- 52:30love the way he talks. I love I just like his presence. Um.
- 52:38I think he's a great character. And eventually he's going to have to
- 52:42go, isn't he. So he'll be he'll be missed. And the only
- 52:45other thing because I was watching was Chapple is hot. I mean she is
- 52:51proper hot. I drink her bath water. But that's this is what I
- 52:57mean. You see, I wasn't I couldn't criticize criticized because I was enjoying
- 53:00it so much. So the odd little point for here and there? So
- 53:06can we have more of this cerebral trek please? Really enjoyed it, really
- 53:09enjoyed last week's episode. Next week's episode, I'm not sure. I mean,
- 53:14I like musicals, but I don't know how it's gonna work with Star
- 53:16Trek. If they make it like Doctor Horrible's sing along blog from all those
- 53:22years ago, it'll probably be pretty good, but it's gonna be pretty cringe.
- 53:28And I just know that everybody on Twitter is gonna be the best episode
- 53:32ever. Want to read it Twitter? Yeah, I loved you all.
- 53:40Take care of many thanks, don't be bye right, there's gonna be a
- 53:46whole section of people on Twitter who are just gonna be praising this thing.
- 53:50Oh for sure, it's the best thing since you know Rovie Wade was put
- 53:54into place, you know, I mean, yeah, I know he said
- 54:02I said it for Daniel. So you know what I would like to see,
- 54:07You know what I would like to see at some point, um,
- 54:10you know I love every time Clinton Howard. Yeah, I would love to
- 54:15see him play someone who's just not a weirdo. I would love just a
- 54:22normal guy. Yeah, I want to see him play Admiral Howard or something,
- 54:29and he's just an admiral. He's just a regular guy and he pops
- 54:31up on the screen. He gives you some orders, and he talks like
- 54:34a regular person, and and that's it. I feel like every time you
- 54:37see him he's some you know, wacky weirdo. That's just the way he
- 54:46is is. Maybe it's like Chriscifer Walking, Like you can try to make
- 54:52him act, but he's just gonna be Christifer Walking. That's true. He
- 54:55talks the way he talks. That's right, pretty good, right. See.
- 55:01The next episode is for all the theater kids. It is probably Yeah,
- 55:08but uh, do you got any more voice? Hiales or I think
- 55:13I do. I'm not really sure what this is, so I'm gonna play
- 55:15it and then maybe pause it really quick. If it's a bad Yeah,
- 55:17if it's like a telemarketer someone asked me for money, I don't know.
- 55:22Yeah, ladies and gentlemen, I'll Due to the Screen Actors Guild strike,
- 55:27the following review was written by a non affiliated third party under the Sentient,
- 55:31Hologram and Android writers of Federation Guild and now Star Trek Strange New World Season
- 55:42two episodes five, Charad old a pac Led review Box Mom has big boom.
- 55:54Thank you for listening to a pac Led review. They're not wrong,
- 56:01but there you go. Oh my lord, there you go. Okay,
- 56:07those are the two I had. Those are the two I had. Yeah,
- 56:10I mean I can go back for an older one from Timmy, but
- 56:13maybe we should like post that as a separate like special gem on. Yeah,
- 56:17sure, all right, Well let's bring in Chaz Biz he's been waiting,
- 56:21and then we'll bring in strong Beard after there. Man, it's all
- 56:24like darkness, like you're I don't turn the lights on. Oh that's okay.
- 56:30So first question for you, Chatz is a lawyers listener to the show?
- 56:32Now that I'm here today and Scott is not over the last two weeks,
- 56:36am I driving you away? No? You're not driving me away.
- 56:39I'm not running away. I'm not canceling my subscription or I'm gonna burn my
- 56:49hat. Now it's like Chad is always wrong. I kind of Hey,
- 56:59it's been so long I had to live in momnic anyway, how's it going
- 57:01chess. It's going great. How are you guys? Good? Good?
- 57:06I know you guys. So nobody's going to Vegas this year? Right?
- 57:09No? No, okay? Teams strong yet and it's Scott. Yeah,
- 57:20are you gonna go to Vegas? No? Well, a family coming in.
- 57:23I wanted to go, but we have family. But now now I'm
- 57:28kind of glad I'm not going. So yeah, but next year I really
- 57:31want to be there. That's the plan. That's next year. I want
- 57:36to see that big sphere in Vegas to check that thing out. Yeah.
- 57:40Yeah. My my buddy who lives there, was saying that, like to
- 57:45drive to it, like it's bumper to bumper traffic and it's really not worth
- 57:49it because it's so big. You can see it from further away. Yeah,
- 57:52and got to be distracting as all. Yeah, you know, yeah,
- 57:57where exactly is it? Like, I don't know it off the strip.
- 58:01It's on the strip somewhere, right, I don't know where. Ye
- 58:06always take the back roads and you'll you'll see it as the planes landing.
- 58:12Yeah. Like there's a parking garage that's like right across the street from it,
- 58:17just about and if you go to the top level you can see it
- 58:20just fine, and you get a better view because like you know, you're
- 58:23down a street level looking up at it, like sit in the front row
- 58:27of the movie theater, whereas you know, up in the parking Roger,
- 58:30you get a good view. Yeah, I'm ready to check that thing out.
- 58:35The only thing is I hate the Star Trek conventions in August in Las
- 58:39Vegas and it's what one hundred fifteen one hundred twenty degrees there, Yeah,
- 58:45and that's that's in the shade and that's it. But if you've been out
- 58:51there, you know how hot it is. It's like somebody pissed in the
- 58:57pool and you're just everybody in the total the total shitty thing is is I'm
- 59:01actually going to wind up being in Vegas probably in late September, first week
- 59:07of October for work. Oh why can't these things line up? It's ridiculous
- 59:12because if you go that time and it's actually even I have an airline credit
- 59:19now, so maybe i'll join you there. I've got an airline credit too.
- 59:23Yeah, has to be used by May, because that's what I used
- 59:28by April. Yeah, Well, does it mean you have to be booked
- 59:30by then or just actually use no I have to use it by then.
- 59:34So if if guys, if there's another, if there's another convention somewhere else
- 59:43before then that you guys are interested in, let me know. Because New
- 59:47York, like two years ago we went to. Yeah, I'm not flying
- 59:51in New York though, I know I'm gonna fly from Ally to New York
- 59:57City. That's right. Play, the plane's gonna go up, still level
- 1:00:00out for a second, and then it's gonna land. Yep. Yeah,
- 1:00:06But like Chicago, if if something else like that comes up, like like
- 1:00:10two years ago, you know, I'd be down for Grand Rapid. Oh,
- 1:00:17his team, Team Scott gonna be there, Team Scott. I think
- 1:00:22the guys after you. Yeah. Yeah, it'd be terrible if we ran
- 1:00:31out of time and couldn't get him on. Yeah, j we gotta go.
- 1:00:42Dan. I got a question for you, Dan, Are you gonna
- 1:00:46get a burgundy gee like in Bega? Mm hmm. I didn't think I
- 1:00:54was. I was looking at him and I'm like, he looks sharp,
- 1:00:59Yeah, he looks short. And then I'm thinking, you know, I'm
- 1:01:02looking at the burgundy outfit, and I'm thinking, I'm pretty sure Riker wears
- 1:01:07that at night. When you know, a lady's coming over, like he
- 1:01:09answers the door in that except it's not tied in the front. You can
- 1:01:14see his his chest hair all the way down. I was thinking something else
- 1:01:16wasn't tied up fronts, Well, have a burgundy no warf for the white.
- 1:01:27It's a white type uniform which which funny, which looks like a karate
- 1:01:31uniform with no belt. So when I looked at myself at the first at
- 1:01:36the first class I went to when I looked at myself in the mirror with
- 1:01:38no belt, my mind immediately went to, uh, you know, hey,
- 1:01:44I look like warf, which is kind of kind of cool to think.
- 1:01:51Um, here, I'll show it to you guys. He did.
- 1:01:54It's white, but it has a burgundy stripe on it, Okay, so
- 1:02:00you can kind of see it right there. M Is that because he was
- 1:02:04the teacher. Maybe maybe because I can remember I can remember the others.
- 1:02:10What about that where rikers were the ultimate combat Yeah, where they were in
- 1:02:16the weird helmet. So I can't wait for Dana white amboo whatever it was
- 1:02:24or whatever some made up words. And I think the war they should have
- 1:02:32had the battle armor like the security officers did, like on the older series
- 1:02:37and the movies, the awful like leather football helmets. Just make a play
- 1:02:46on that, like just how awful it look. I just love how much
- 1:02:52they're backing away from all the ships having a million drones. Oh yes,
- 1:02:54yea, And okay. Another thing is if you put people in the pattern
- 1:03:00buffers, right, like if they're blah blah, why don't they put the
- 1:03:04prisoners in there and they want to scape the ship every time the hold a
- 1:03:09prisoner because it's a secret yet secret. Here's the problem with the whole pattern
- 1:03:19buffer thing. Okay, would you start going down that rabbit hole? Chaz,
- 1:03:22I can just said, why wouldn't you just have them in a thumb
- 1:03:25drive in your pocket? Yeah ye something? Yeah, literally carrying around?
- 1:03:31Why would you? Why would you physic Yeah, why would you physically store
- 1:03:38anything anywhere? If you could put it in the pattern buffer? Would you
- 1:03:42get that through? Problem to lay exactly? You go down this entire rabbit
- 1:03:47holes like we're going on a vacation. Everybody, I got the USB,
- 1:03:50everybody get on the buffer, all your stuff. We're gonna put you all
- 1:03:52in here, and then I'm gonna take the shuttlecraft all the way there.
- 1:03:55And then we'll write I'll be back and you don't have to feed them or
- 1:03:59anything. They're just it's like, yeah, man, we could we could
- 1:04:03email ourselves to Vegas. That would be awesome. And it doesn't it doesn't
- 1:04:10matter if you have to work Monday morning. Damn, I accidentally throw a
- 1:04:13dump. Thumb drives all the time. Yeah exactly, Yeah, where's cousin
- 1:04:17Timmy? Oh yeah, what happened to your wife? I washed my pants,
- 1:04:25I left the thumb drive in the pocket. Yeah corrupt, she got
- 1:04:29corrupted in the dryer. Ooh, you know it's even better. You know
- 1:04:32what's even better? This is this? Only I would think of this.
- 1:04:35Okay, every morning you put your wife into the pattern buffer and take her
- 1:04:41back out with just a copy of her without her knowing it. And if
- 1:04:44you screw up that day, you just get the old one. Mm hmmm,
- 1:04:49So you just have a happy wife. Man, you restore your wife
- 1:04:55to previous version. Yeah, yeah, you will never get old. So
- 1:05:04that too, you're just never getting old. I wonder what I wonder what
- 1:05:13Scott thinks about all this? Too bad we're at this time. Let's yeah,
- 1:05:17I would have loved to get his perspective. It would be so interesting,
- 1:05:23it would be great. Yeah, maybe maybe next week this Protocol twelve
- 1:05:30or whatever it is. Yeah, sorry, yeah, this super serian.
- 1:05:33It's like, how far are they going to get speed? Yeah, cocaine
- 1:05:40is yeah? Or angel does it's angel you want to get Is he gonna
- 1:05:46die somehow? And that's how Oh he's gonna die from it from complications from
- 1:05:50taking it. Yeah, that's why he constantly's grabbing his heart having those issues.
- 1:05:56I took that completely away, that that's how he ends. He ends
- 1:05:59from the doctor has a problem. I think he's gonna You think he's gonna
- 1:06:05end up in the nebula with his daughter because of it? Oh, yeah,
- 1:06:10that'll probably be the I think they'll forget all about that and not do
- 1:06:14that, even though that's a good idea. Yeah, it's weird. I
- 1:06:17don't remember them mentioning that nurse Chapel served with him last year either. They
- 1:06:24mentioned that they had a relationship, Like they didn't, Yeah, did something.
- 1:06:30She has been calling him Joseph regularly from the from the beginning, which
- 1:06:35you know, the relationship between a doctor and a nurse. That is uncommon
- 1:06:40for a nurse to feel that she can call a doctor by his first name.
- 1:06:45Yeah, and she's not a nurse. Yeah, I mean she's basically
- 1:06:49a doctor. She's trying to do these fellowships with the she's got this weird
- 1:06:56uniform compared to everybody else, although we did see somebody else in that same
- 1:06:59uniform. Finally, like one time in Passing, you know this episode of
- 1:07:03the one before one of the two I remember seeing I think it was the
- 1:07:05boiler episode where I saw someone walking out in that outfit and it wasn't Nurse
- 1:07:10Chapel. But she wears a totally different outfit than everybody else because she's not
- 1:07:14a starfleet or whatever. The weird thing was. Yeah, you gotta think
- 1:07:17they're they're doing different shifts. There's there's probably more than one doctor too on
- 1:07:21the option. I don't know. I don't know what the deal is with
- 1:07:26her now, because you know, she's not wearing a star fleet uniform.
- 1:07:31I originally had the feeling, Okay, she's she's a civilian working on a
- 1:07:38starfleet vessel, but she's not a star fleet officer at this point, right,
- 1:07:44But but then we see a flashback where she's in a war zone.
- 1:07:46You don't send civilians into a war zone. Yeah, well she's I think
- 1:07:53I think what we've talked about before, and I think our consensus was before
- 1:07:56on that was she's more of like a doctor's without borders kind Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:08:00and so that's why she was in a war zone as well as on
- 1:08:03the enterprise now, because this is after the war and so things haven't really
- 1:08:08gone back to being integrated yet because almost whatever, every medical has two divisions,
- 1:08:13right, like, yeah, they have the starfleet side and then they
- 1:08:15have like the civilian side, Yeah, CILI side. At some point,
- 1:08:20she's got to become she has to be so at some point that's got to
- 1:08:27change in their storyline. Yeah, and what was that kind of sorry now
- 1:08:32I messed up my brain like went blank. Uh. You know, like
- 1:08:38the episode overall, I hated that he killed him at the end. I
- 1:08:41wish, you know, something would maybe they could assault it, you know,
- 1:08:46maybe he got arrested for four crimes. Yeah. Well, I like
- 1:08:50the fact that he killed them at the end. I don't like the fact
- 1:08:53that it was just like we're gonna just sweep that under the rug. Well,
- 1:08:56yeah, they diplomat, they really, I think they Deebald Pike this
- 1:09:02year. He's not really like he's not the captain. Captain, he's not.
- 1:09:06He just lets everybody do whatever it looks. He's just like watch it,
- 1:09:13yeah, like quick. Yeah. He really doesn't have He doesn't take
- 1:09:15a position on authority very much. Yeah. So another another issue I had,
- 1:09:24Um, you know, clingons are supposed to be significantly stronger than humans.
- 1:09:30Yeah, yeah, and that that judo match just looked awkward. Yeah,
- 1:09:36it's likes at him or what you know it, That's all I can
- 1:09:45think of. It's like, just to defeat a cling on, find a
- 1:09:48blue barrel and throw it at their back and I'll break the back. It
- 1:09:53wasn't for someone who's as good at that in real life as he is.
- 1:09:57It was an awkward fighting scene for multiple reasons. To even taking out the
- 1:10:02fact that Klingons are way stronger than humans, it looked awkward. Yeah,
- 1:10:08you remember me and Warf would do it. They come back with bruises,
- 1:10:14you know. Yah. Plus the idea of klingon judo is kind of strange.
- 1:10:19The whole thing with judo is it's not it's not striking, it's grappling
- 1:10:24and throwing, yeah, and and trapping your opponent, which kind of seems
- 1:10:29like the antithesis to how a Klingon would engage in combat, not to mention
- 1:10:36to be a piece of cake for a cling on, because you just grab
- 1:10:39them and then just pick them up and then throw them like I'm done.
- 1:10:43This is really easy stuff human, I mean, right, And Disco they
- 1:10:48missed the plot two of the war, Like they had this great thing of
- 1:10:54the war and they just completely screwed it up. Yeah, I barely just
- 1:11:00brush by. Are like, oh, there's this big war here, but
- 1:11:00we're gonna warp over here, you know. Basically, we're gonna go into
- 1:11:04the mirror universe and do this thing and then come back. And that was
- 1:11:09kind of confusing because they wrapped the whole war up too quick on Disco.
- 1:11:13I thought, oh, way way too Yeah. I was like, wow,
- 1:11:16the war is over like that. You didn't even show the war.
- 1:11:18This is crazy. This is like they always mentioned it, but all of
- 1:11:21a sudden it's over. It was like a skirmish. Really yeah, well
- 1:11:27that and we're used to DS nine, where the war was what like four
- 1:11:29seasons. It did like well when they fought the Kleon's, like you felt
- 1:11:35the trauma as some of those guys. It almost makes me wish even though
- 1:11:42they screwed up so many things for so many people, it makes me wish
- 1:11:46that that side project where those guys were trying to make a movie on the
- 1:11:51side, even with some past Trek actors about the war as much as as
- 1:11:58much as did all the copyright stuff. I really enjoyed what they did.
- 1:12:02I was starting to enjoy what they are putting together. What was the name
- 1:12:05of that group. I forget the name of that group now, but oh
- 1:12:08no, you're talking about probly upsets Dan when I when I mentioned it,
- 1:12:11because he was upset about those guys. So sorry many Um well, Chasmsins,
- 1:12:16thanks for being on. Yeah, all right, I guess we still
- 1:12:21got time. So Scott's here. Yeay, yeay, I guess how's it
- 1:12:29going? Man? Good good, Hey, thanks once again, Chad,
- 1:12:32thanks for recovering for men. I appreciate that. Oh you're welcome. You're
- 1:12:35welcome anytime. That's great. Um. You know, one of the things
- 1:12:40I want to mention nurse Chapel. I see I sort of see her as
- 1:12:44like a field specialist. I think she's in Starfleet. Um, I just
- 1:12:48think that, you know, she's got a specialty outside of the nursing thing.
- 1:12:54You know, because a nurse here, you know, in in twenty
- 1:12:57twenty three in the United States, that can be a four or even a
- 1:13:00six year degree, um, you know, just like a physician's assistant.
- 1:13:04And I kind of see her as a nurse slashed scientist. So you know,
- 1:13:11she could have gotten a nursing degree and then she could have gotten you
- 1:13:14know, gone to like them I t equivalent, and gotten her masters in
- 1:13:17a you know, a subsection of whatever, some kind of medical things.
- 1:13:20So yeah, just because she's not a doctor, but I do see her
- 1:13:26as part of star Fleet. I don't know exactly what the cannon says about
- 1:13:29her. Um. Like I said last week, I've I've made it through
- 1:13:32about halfway through the cage so far in my episode, my attempt to rewatch
- 1:13:38the original series. We're getting there. We're getting there. I'll probably give
- 1:13:42you guys an update by Christmas. There you go on the first episode anyway,
- 1:13:45there and I do have I did well. I will have a pack
- 1:13:50lad review ready for you probably in a week or two. I didn't want
- 1:13:56to overload with pac led reviews because I knew there was one coming up in
- 1:13:58the in the voice l and I Honestly, this episode, I uh,
- 1:14:03I didn't really have the heart to do a packled review because this episode was
- 1:14:09you know, I'm a veteran UM and although I don't, I don't I
- 1:14:14didn't see the kind of action that they looked they saw in this episode.
- 1:14:17UM, I know people who have and um, this really struck a chord
- 1:14:23with me, as I'm sure it has anybody who's been in a combat situation
- 1:14:27or been overseas, And I just wanted to one of the things I wanted
- 1:14:30to say, since there's a there's a an outlet here for it, is
- 1:14:34just to mention the Veteran Crisis Hotline and all you have to do is dial
- 1:14:41nine eight eight and press one and you'll get to uh, you'll get to
- 1:14:45somebody to help you out. Or you can text eight three eight two five
- 1:14:48five, go to the VA, go to the DAV you know, anybody
- 1:14:53dealing with PTSD or anything like that. So also nine eight eight is the
- 1:14:58national crisis this lifeline as well. Correct correct, So, but yeah,
- 1:15:03I thought this was a fantastic episode. Yeah, I did bring back memories
- 1:15:08of you know, Palemon Light in the Siege of Aar whatever the episode was.
- 1:15:14Um, so yeah, I think, And it makes me wonder if
- 1:15:17they what kind of um, what kind of people they have um to give
- 1:15:24them advice advisors for these kinds of episodes, if they do have any military
- 1:15:29guys on on staff or anything like that. Um, I don't think they
- 1:15:32do, because they wear flashlights on either side of their head. Yeah,
- 1:15:36that's true. They were still doing in this episode. Two are you saying
- 1:15:40that's not tactical? It is not tactical fashion? Okay, gotcha. But
- 1:15:47yeah, and as far as as far as the musical episode, you're so
- 1:15:55excited, right, Well, I'm gonna reserve judgment. Um. I I
- 1:16:00used to hate musicals, and now I kind of like musicals. I I
- 1:16:02sort of did stage crew in high school for our musicals, so I have
- 1:16:06a love hate relationship with them if they do it right. What's your favorite
- 1:16:11musical, Scott? Uh, Well, some of the ones that I worked
- 1:16:14on were like Hello Dolly, crazy for you? Um, I did a
- 1:16:20civic production of the Wizard of Oz, so um. Yeah, So they
- 1:16:27can be fun and if done in the right way. You know, Well,
- 1:16:31there's there's two theories of how they're gonna do it. Either they're gonna
- 1:16:33have a musical for musical sake, and it's just gonna be a one off,
- 1:16:36which would be weird or like, like we talked about last week,
- 1:16:42it's going to be some sort of that wave that went through the ship in
- 1:16:45the preview looks like it affected them somehow, So maybe it's a Dharmack type
- 1:16:51of situation where that's how the alien's gonna communicate. It'd be kind of fun
- 1:16:56if they did, like they could only sing like rock songs or like you
- 1:17:01know, Galax, some of the Guardians type songs. You know. Right
- 1:17:04now, I do have a request, please let Gentry do a quick reaction
- 1:17:12to the Oh yeah, I would love that, Gentry, if you're listening,
- 1:17:16please, Yeah, he seemed to have he felt some kind of way
- 1:17:23about this. Yes, not well right right, so yeah, looking forward
- 1:17:29to the episode, and I know we've only got what two left. Yeah,
- 1:17:32the musical in the final Okay, it's been a good season. Hasn't
- 1:17:38been as good as season one, that's the general reaction. But you know,
- 1:17:43they're they're still finding their footing and we'll see where. Oh my gosh,
- 1:17:50oh absolutely, he needs to come on the show. Mike. You
- 1:17:53need to you need to come on the show. Yeah, for people who
- 1:17:57know who don't pay attention to the face with group. Mike is in there
- 1:18:00quite a bit. And uh that's some interesting takes from time. It always
- 1:18:03has something to say always. Yeah. Absolutely. Oh oh that's what I
- 1:18:09love about this community. Yeah, it's great. You know, I love
- 1:18:12them. When people like Chad guest host, it's it's it's awesome. It
- 1:18:16is. You know, we're thinking about having them on again. Great.
- 1:18:20Great, Hey, you're doing a good job. Dad. We're gonna talk
- 1:18:24about it, and you know, we'll see, we'll see what happens.
- 1:18:28So I guess we'll get with the Dan and Daniel, I'll get with your
- 1:18:30offline about what we're gonna talk about. We'll talk about it, all right.
