- 3:04[SPEAKER_07]: So that's dive in here.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_07]: First time addressing you guys, talking to you guys really other than texting about the Browns coaching vacancy.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_07]: Let go, Kevin.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_07]: Kevin, I guess that's the hottest news we're now just hired last night to the Falcons.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_07]: Gave them five year, what, 70 million?
- 3:22[SPEAKER_07]: That's a lot of money.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_06]: I forget what they said.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_07]: The actual financials have not officially been disclosed or whatever, but there's been some, I don't know, insider reporting or whatever, but it's also, I think this is, is this the first time in our lives that a head coach of the Browns was fired and then rehired again as a head coach of another organization,
- 3:47[SPEAKER_07]: I thought he coached with the Giants or was he just what I thought or was he an interim or so I can't remember The only name a chat helped me out did Depath Schermer ever get a second state.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_07]: I know it wasn't right away But I can't remember if he was ever a head coach again for like a season or two, but about like Romeo Cranel was that
- 4:06[SPEAKER_07]: He coached he was he was he was in and around I think and then they like hired him back the next year For one I think one season and then was immediately fired, so but It kind of it kind of tells you what the league thinks of the Browns if we're being honest here.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_07]: If if the Ravens don't go full like In St. mode and hire a first ballot Hall of Famer
- 4:28[SPEAKER_07]: Kevin would have been the first, they would have been a bedding war for the coach that we just fired.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_07]: So that tells you kind of like what the league thinks of him is compared to what they think of the organization and maybe the roster that he was working with.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_07]: So what do you guys think?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_07]: in terms of, I had so many people saying Kevin, Kevin never coach again, he'll never be a head coach again.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_07]: I heard that so many times, I guess I've been a Kevin defender on here, but I understand the moving on.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_07]: I can argue about why we didn't necessarily need to, but I can understand it when you only win eight games.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_07]: What kills me is like when guys will talk about Kevin, like he was just the worst coach of all time, never did anything in Cleveland.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_07]: He did things in Cleveland, no other coach he's ever done here since basically Marty Shottenheimer.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_07]: So that's, I think he's going to instantly win the division in Atlanta and we're going to still probably, I think there's a better chance in two years he's fighting for playoffs and that kind of thing and we're hiring another new coach.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_07]: If I was a betting man, that's the way I see that go in.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_04]: I guess to answer the question, I think the question is, is defense gives position better in Atlanta?
- 5:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, man.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think his landing spots better off for him.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to do a team where there's major playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_04]: Got B. John, you've got Drake London.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_04]: There may be some insecurity at quarterback, but he's going there to a team where with a guy with incurred cousins that
- 6:09[SPEAKER_04]: you know, he was with Minnesota for years, you know, there's familiarity there.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you like you guys said the division's not good, you know, there's opportunity right away.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_04]: It should be an immediate kind of turnaround.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_04]: You have the opportunity to win your division and being contented for playoffs right off the bat.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_04]: good situation for him.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I mean, I, I don't think it's any surprise, at least his shouldn't be to people.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_06]: It's definitely not surprised to me that he got hired.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_06]: And that he was a hot name on the mark.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_06]: We've been told that by the national media for months, like, if the Browns let him go, he's going to be one of the hotter names.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, okay, that's fine.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_06]: We get that.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_06]: And I understand that the situation and Cleveland was an ideal.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_06]: I think at the same time that.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_06]: You know, me and other Browns fans said we need to move on from Kevin.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_06]: It doesn't mean he's a, I never said like, I said this a lot.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_06]: He's not a bad coach.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_06]: I just don't think it's the right fit here.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_06]: Like he needed to move on.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_06]: We needed to move on.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_06]: I just think a change of scenery was probably best for both sides.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_06]: You know, he definitely has a better situation in Atlanta like you said.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_06]: That's, yeah, it's, it was getting stale here.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_07]: I think we just, we needed to knew it was getting, I guess I haven't got to talk about it since we fired.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_07]: It was getting stale or did the roster just be, was pillaged, you know what I mean?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_07]: And it's, it's like, one in here.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_06]: And then we kept one, which makes no sense to me.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_06]: What, Andrew Barry, you mean?
- 7:34[SPEAKER_06]: Yes.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I was on board for the full house cleaning.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_06]: Just check everybody out there, remember.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_06]: So I wanted everybody gone.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_07]: That's what.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_07]: That's what what was killing me and it's like if I was going to if I had to blame people for what happened to the Browns the last two years It wasn't the coach in my opinion, but I mean we'll see it just For an organization that basically like my whole life is just gone through coaches like You know, I go through boxers You know, it just it's crazy to think like
- 8:13[SPEAKER_07]: you fired a guy who's I mean we all I would imagine most people if you unless you're just like an in in hater you heard that you went to Atlanta and you were like oh they're probably going to be good right away so that means like the coaching probably wasn't that bad you know like so I don't know it's just it's going to be a tough pill to swallow when we're hiring our next coach again in two years and he's still down there winning games I guess that's just like my only thing.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_06]: it's it's going to be interesting because I've now I've got a lot of like Atlanta Falcons accounts and fans and stuff popping up in my Twitter feed because I've been talking with some of them and there's some people that are really excited down there in Atlanta in that fan base for a defensive answer.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_06]: There's some people that are very skeptical because they kind of see it the way.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_06]: some of us browns fans have seen their well remember this guy had to give a play calling the last two years.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_06]: And all this kind of stuff and the offense numbers weren't all that great.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_06]: Now obviously our personnel wasn't fantastic or anything like that.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_06]: But I'm just going to be very interested to see how it works out down there because now we're going to reports that Tommy Reese might be leaving to go join him and his staff down there.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_06]: Bill Kallahan is rumored to be going down there to coach the old line.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_06]: So I mean Kevin kind of gets the old band back together.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_06]: I just been saying, like, take Baba, take Chattoshay, take some of these other, you know, boneheads that are on our staff and get them out of here, I'd be okay with that.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_07]: I have a sneaky suspicion that these people that we think are boneheads are going to all of a sudden look like good, good coaches, Chattoshay, because we're going to have good players.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_07]: Here's the thing, well, it's one of those things, everybody likes to bash on Chattoshay.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_07]: Which receiver did we draft that he was supposed to make good?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, dude, there's, there are receivers that turn into at least.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_06]: play a bull-wide receiver.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_07]: None of the wide receivers that the Browns have had that we'd expect a shadow shade to turn into a good, have we released and then gone to other teams and me good.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_07]: Half of them aren't even in the league.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_06]: West because they're 25 and never done anything.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_06]: They've never done anything.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_07]: Too many people, like I understand coaching is definitely important, but at the end of the day, it's about players.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_07]: And we have not drafted dudes for like five years on the offensive side of the ball.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_07]: So again, I'm not saying I don't know
- 10:24[SPEAKER_07]: ever.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_07]: So he had one wide receiver and that guy had his two best career years here.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_07]: So I don't know.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_07]: I just have the cynical Browns fan of me is going to be really funny when all these guys that we think are terrible are all of a sudden that we're like getting talked about bubble probably be like another hot name for head coaches again in three years because they're special teams is so good and stuff like that.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_07]: I'm just saying, watch it happen, it's gonna happen.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_06]: We'll see, I did think it was interesting that nobody requested an interview with Tommy Reese.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_06]: After everything we heard about him being this, hot up and coming, you know, potential head coach for college, teams for NFL teams.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_06]: Not one head coaching requested interview this year.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_06]: Aside from obviously us doing our due diligence.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_07]: I guess we can kind of transition this into like some of our coaching candidates.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_07]: I just, a guy who's an offensive coordinator calling place for half a year, there's just no, I didn't care what the Browns were telling me.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_07]: There was, I didn't add zero expectations for him to get interviewed for head coaching jobs.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_07]: Anywhere.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I mean, he's too green.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_07]: That's why, like, I don't, I do not want shoe house to be our head coach.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_07]: Like, I don't know who I do want, but I know a couple of guys I don't want.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_07]: He's on my list of, please don't hire that guy.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_07]: That's crazy to me.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_04]: I guess I didn't, you know, we can lead this into like the coaching candidates and stuff like this.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just curious what you guys are thinking, like as far as where the Browns like lie and coaching, you know, like on the tree of this is a good job to go after.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_04]: I have serious doubts if we get to the end of this thing and we're at the bottom of the list talking about what's left over and, you know,
- 12:21[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, we're, I see guys kind of like just automatically exing out some of these younger candidates and stuff like that.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like, these are going to, this is going to be one of the guys that we end up hiring.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_04]: It's not going to be, uh, you know, I, Mike McDaniel, that'd be awesome.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_04]: I'd be super stoked about getting that guy here, you know, maybe transform an offense around that we have major weaknesses on.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even know if he'd pick Cleveland.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_04]: with what's left over still.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_06]: Well, the thing to remember, too, is we're not, okay, so we're not fighting for the exact same candidates as all the other openings because you've already got that now you got the giants and the Falcons are done.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_06]: Obviously, we weren't vying for Kevin's to fancy, so that's one off the list that deferred us.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_06]: The Titans, they're down to, I believe us all reported, I forget who the three are.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_06]: It's like Matt Nagy.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_06]: Ah, there's two other
- 13:12[SPEAKER_06]: So like there's three teams that aren't higher in anybody that we're even looking at.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_06]: And I don't want to talk too much about Jim Shortchek because we'll get into that discussion in a little bit exclusively on him, but
- 13:24[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I think we got reports today if they've got second round interviews lined up with six candidates.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_06]: This coming week, week, which is kind of crazy.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_06]: It's Jim Schwartz, Todd Munkin, Jesse Mentor, Grant Udenski, Nate Sheo House, and Mike McDonald.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_06]: So those are the six second round guys.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_06]: So I guess you can kind of say, there's your finalists at least at this point.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_07]: my, my piece on Sheelhouse.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_07]: If you want to bring him in, if you hire somebody and he comes into your offensive coordinator, that's fine.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_07]: That's too big of a jump.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_07]: Passing in coordinator to head coach.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_07]: We watched Freddie Kitchens here, right?
- 14:06[SPEAKER_07]: Click, you just, you can't take, I mean, he has essentially the bare minimum responsibility in terms of an offensive coach and he works
- 14:19[SPEAKER_07]: and you're going to bring him here to lead an entire locker room.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_07]: He's never even been a position coach at that I know of.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_07]: He's just a passing game coordinator.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_07]: He charts paths place.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_07]: I'm not making that guy head coach.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_07]: Somebody else can let him cook.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_07]: Maybe he'll be wrong and he'll go somewhere and be awesome.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_07]: I'm not doing that.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_07]: We'll just be looking for a head coach again two years.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_06]: Well, it's one thing to keep in mind.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, we might be interviewing some of these guys just to get feelers out there for potential coordinator positions or just to get some experience with some of these new faces for a potential head coach who serves down the road.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_06]: You never know what's going to happen.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_06]: And that kind of stuff just doing some intel, you know, collection and all that stuff.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_06]: But we're not the only team interviewing Nate Sheo House for the head coaching job.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_06]: I think the Steelers did, trying to remember who I'll say, I thought there was at least two other teams that had him in, or at least had him on a call for an interview.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_06]: I guess nobody has really been in person yet.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_07]: I, um, I guess I also don't want Todd Monkin.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_06]: No, I think we just crossed that one off the list entirely.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_06]: What am I doing?
- 15:22[SPEAKER_04]: I would be, I'd be very, very surprised.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_04]: I talked to Josh about this a little bit.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_04]: Just based on now, obviously he's going for a head coaching position, so that's a promotion.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_04]: This is your shot, you know, you're getting it in.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_04]: But Harball literally just basically let himself get fired from the ravens over that guy.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_04]: That dude is going with him to New York.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_04]: He'll be in New York with him.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's just probably going through the process of, hey,
- 15:51[SPEAKER_04]: I have an opportunity to interview for a head coaching position.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to do it, there's familiarity, but yeah, I see him, I see him going to New York.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_04]: I hope so.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_07]: I hope he's not here in any capacity.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_07]: I don't want him.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_07]: I'll be honest, I don't really want Jim Schwartz to be my head coach.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_07]: How often does promoting a coordinator to head coach ever work?
- 16:18[SPEAKER_07]: You promote Jim Schwartz to your head coach.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_07]: Chances are, it's like a one year thing, and then GM and coach are both getting fired next year.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_07]: It's just, and I'll be honest, I'm taking any defensive head coach off the list because what happens if you hire defensive head coach?
- 16:36[SPEAKER_07]: You gotta knock it out of the park with your offensive coordinator.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_07]: And then, if you knock it out of the park with your offensive coordinator, guess what?
- 16:43[SPEAKER_07]: He's getting hired to be a head coach of very next year.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_07]: And it, because they're going to be eight openings every year.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_07]: This is the NFL.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_07]: It's just the way it goes.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_07]: And then you got to replace them again.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_07]: And if you replace them again, and you happen to strike gold twice, that guy's gone again.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_07]: And you're just going to live in this this reality of just constantly.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_07]: reupping it to offensive court, and eventually, I mean, you're not going to hit every single time.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_07]: And you also, you want some kind of continuity.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_07]: You don't want to be replacing your offensive coordinator every single year.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_07]: I'm just looking at the lines this year.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_04]: Eagles, I was thinking of the Eagles five coordinators in five years, you know what I mean?
- 17:20[SPEAKER_04]: Like, some of it success, some of it not success, but regardless, you know what I mean one year just turn around.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_07]: So that's why I'm like, I'm taking a defensive head coach off my list for that for that reason.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_04]: can I can I counter you on something just at a curiosity I watch the playoffs and I see you know I see these teams defensive teams like dominating you know and you know capitalizing on you know mistakes and stuff like that and they're able to just do enough on offense.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_04]: We're obviously as an organization, we feel like we're build on one side of the ball for the most part.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we're pretty solid on that side.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_04]: Is there any way that we just go full force into defensive minded coach and what you're supposed to say?
- 18:10[SPEAKER_06]: So C-Hawks dominating on defense, Clint Kubeyack on the offense.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_06]: Broncos dominating on defense, Sean Payton on the offense.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_06]: Rams.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, well, I mean, they got John McVay.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_06]: They're
- 18:24[SPEAKER_06]: But you have to have a good offensive coach on that side of the ball, because you saw what happened with the Texans.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, dominating defense.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_06]: What a loss that was asked.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_06]: Terrible.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_07]: And I think the Mecha Rines is a good head coach.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_07]: But the fall off of CJ Straud is just, well, he had, he was a Bobby Sloan.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_07]: They fired him, right?
- 18:49[SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_07]: There is like,
- 18:52[SPEAKER_07]: Davis Mills outplayed him this year.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_07]: Like there's there's gonna be real talking to offseason about like, is can we play with CJ Strout?
- 19:01[SPEAKER_07]: And people are avoiding him like a face of the league after his rookie year.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_06]: This is going to be May, I believe, would be fifth year option decision time for the Texas.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_06]: And that's usually when these first round quarterbacks start getting those that second contract talk because they don't want to play on that fourth year, you know, and all that kind of stuff.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_06]: So it's going to be interesting.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_06]: Do you pay CJ Straud?
- 19:21[SPEAKER_06]: That's a conversation they're definitely going to be having.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_07]: That's tough.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_07]: I also like in a defensive coach, I think we, I don't know if he's lined up for a second interview or not the mentor,
- 19:33[SPEAKER_06]: Just a mentor, yeah.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_06]: Just a mentor.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_06]: Yep.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_07]: I want nothing to do with that guy.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know anything to do with anybody who is at Michigan with Jim Burr.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_07]: Thank you.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_07]: Why they were cheating.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_07]: Okay.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_06]: I was going to ask you, like, am I wrong for saying that that's the, I don't need to know anything else about him.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_06]: He was at Michigan with Jim Harball during the thing.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_06]: I don't want anything to do with him.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_07]: No.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_07]: Keep him away.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_07]: I don't need it.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_07]: I don't need it.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_07]: You cheated for National Championship in Michigan.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_07]: Did you don't get to come coach to Cleveland Browns?
- 20:02[SPEAKER_07]: That is.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_07]: Stay away.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_06]: So real quick to go back to the original point here was hiring from within, promoting from within to head coach.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_06]: And I posted this on social media and I left a few off of here, but there's
- 20:18[SPEAKER_06]: just that I forgot but they weren't successful either.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_06]: Like nobody that's gotten promoted from within recently like the last 10 years has ever had success.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_06]: You got Freddy Kitchens, Jrod, Mayo, and Antonio Pierce, Ben Macadoo, Mike Malarkey, Dirk Cauder, Doug Moroni, and Frank Rike was the longest lasting one he lasted six years with the Colts.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_06]: And he had a 41 and 43 and one record like he was under 500.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_06]: And I'll start off with is kind of Kevinish.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that's right.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_06]: And then it went down.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_06]: But all these other ones were like one, two, maybe three years.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_06]: They lasted.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_06]: And they're all losing records.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_06]: They got fired midseason.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_06]: I just go ahead because we need to we need to really hone in on Jim Schwarz.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_06]: I think I do have a vote all about him, but go ahead Justin.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_04]: I think for me and I understand you know that there's familiar to you with the Browns.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean and the Browns organization, they feel comfortable with them.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_04]: You know, they obviously like what he's done with the defense, they trust him.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_04]: But
- 21:13[SPEAKER_04]: you already have four or five years of what this guy did as a head coach and Detroit as guy was a head coach and Detroit, you know, and it wasn't great.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_04]: There was a lot more losing and there was winning and we're talking about teams where they had Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_04]: These are two Hall of Famers on just that side of the ball, auspensive side of the ball.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_04]: If you want to just say, well, you know,
- 21:38[SPEAKER_04]: if you have just I want to say that another
- 21:45[SPEAKER_04]: interior defensive lime and that was a start I could be I could be wrong but I just you had one year where I think you went ten six I was his best year and then you got a lot of like two wins four year you know four wins there's a lot of just normal cleave and browns records kind of stuff you know this lingerin around there um i don't know i just for me it just kind of feels like the browns just kind of need a yes man to just
- 22:09[SPEAKER_04]: just run the team for a couple years until they get in position to roll out this dome stuff.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_04]: I just I feel like he's just kind of a guy that can be the puppet in front of the podium for a little bit.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_04]: We just had that.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_07]: Here's the thing, I think Jim Schwartz is a good defensive coordinator.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I did so.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_07]: But I don't think he's irreplaceable.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know, maybe I'm crazy.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_07]: But there are no.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_07]: No.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_07]: Like we've watched his defenses.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, let's be honest, let us down, like a lot of times in his tenure here, and I know they play really well at times also, but the Vikings game this year, the Titans game this year.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_07]: And everybody like the harp on Kevin for lack of adjustments, the Brown still can't stop a jet sweep.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_07]: They still struggle with, you know, like a slot receiver, and it's just like, uh,
- 23:07[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_07]: I don't think he's just I don't I think there's guys you could get to replace him in terms of that's be honest also the defense aside the ball is where all the Brown's best players are.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_07]: He should have had the good unit right.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_07]: He inherited he inherited a unit that was just littered with top two round picks.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_07]: and all the high-level and whole and highly paid talent of the Browns is on heesh, of course they should be good.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_07]: They have models freaking Garrett, like they have dens that they have the number one adress your info ball.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_07]: They have like a top five corner info ball.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_07]: Grant Delpit's probably a top ten safety info ball.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_07]: A Carson Schwestering or this year is one of the best linebackers in all of football.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_07]: The top five pick and Mason Graham on the defensive line.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_07]: The defense has good players.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_07]: They should be good.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_07]: And they should definitely be good enough not to give up 30 freaking points to the Titans or 80 or 80 yard drives to Carson Wentz.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_07]: You know, it's just, I don't know, I just think there's guys out there.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_07]: who could do a lot of exactly what Jim Schwartz does with this defense of roster.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_07]: This defense of roster is loaded.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_04]: I just want to bring up one thing, Josh, and I'm going to kick it to you, man.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_04]: And this is just my fear, and I don't know if you'll agree with this Blake, but I think Josh, by all I'm more with it, with the younger coaching search and stuff like that.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_04]: the fact that the Browns are kind of telling head coaching candidates that they'd like to keep them gym shorts on as the defensive coordinator.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like you're already risking obviously a few like a guy.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_04]: Let's say they really like you didn't ski, right?
- 24:41[SPEAKER_04]: That's your, that's a guy you really like.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_04]: You would love for them to bring him in.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_04]: Let's say he has a guy and we'll just say check if those defensive coordinator Anthony Campanelli.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_04]: Let's say that's, that's a guy he would be interested
- 24:56[SPEAKER_04]: are you really risking not getting your head coach because you want to keep gym shorts in the building?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_04]: That's where I feel like we're we're we're treading weird territory with the search.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_06]: Well, the focus just did that with Kevin's fanski.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_06]: They wanted to retain their defensive coordinator and they did.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_06]: So I mean, I guess it's not completely unheard of.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_06]: It's not like we're the only team doing that.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_06]: I'm not a huge fan of it.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_06]: I get why they're doing it because it's been so successful.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_06]: But to go to what you
- 25:26[SPEAKER_06]: From 2009 to 2013, he coached 80 games and was 29 and 51.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_06]: That's just 263 win percentage.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_06]: And like Blake said, he had Matthew Stafford and Megatron and these guys on defense.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_06]: And he hasn't, the thing that gets me with Jim Schwartz, I was really thinking about the other night.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_06]: As soon as he hasn't been ahead coached since then.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_06]: That was 2013, it was 12 years ago.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_06]: Why has he not been ahead coached since then?
- 25:51[SPEAKER_06]: How many guys get retread in this league after a year or two, they go coordinate somewhere, Dan Quinn, they get another head coaching job.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_06]: This guy never got another shot.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_06]: And we're gonna get into it.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_07]: It's not only that, it's far as I know.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_07]: He's never even been like a name.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_07]: Not really.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_07]: He's never even been like, uh, like, oh, this team's interviewing Jim Schwartz and he just didn't get it or whatever you've been doing.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_04]: Dude, it's not even been an option.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_04]: Do you guys remember after our playoff run in 23 there was a lot of that smoke that he was going to be looking at head coaching positions and nothing came out of it.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_07]: I didn't even know the interviewed for one.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_07]: It's one of those things where Cleveland fans always love the backup.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_07]: We always love the backup quarterback.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_07]: We want that we love the backup coach at Cleveland fans.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_07]: They love Jim shorts because he wears tight t-shirts and looks manly.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_07]: That's that this be honest.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_07]: They like him because they think he's like a no-nonsense.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_07]: Gonna yell at the players high school football coach guy.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_07]: And that's why they want him.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, let's be honest, because nothing in his record ever says that he can be head coach, nothing around the league is told you that he would be a good head coach.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_07]: You just think he'll throw players under the bus in the microphone after a game in a hill yell at the rest on the sideline.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_07]: So that's why you want to be the head coach.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_06]: And I also, and again, I try to say this delicately, because I'm not.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_06]: trying to offend any browns hands out there, I think that there is a faction of the fan base that just doesn't recognize any of the names we're interviewing.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_06]: They don't know who the offensive coordinator for Jacksonville or the defensive coordinator for the chargers is.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_06]: They don't know these guys.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_06]: you know, and they work jobs and they have families now time to research who these people are so they're like just just stick with gym shorts I know the defense is awesome he's been here for a few years let's just ride with him and it's the easy pick I guess and I think there's a loyalty to a to Josh you know what I mean they're like a good way to put it
- 27:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's like a comfort zone thing.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_04]: They're like, you know, we've seen success, you know, with this guy and what he's been doing well, he's here and all this chaos in this confusion and dysfunction.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, maybe this is the kind of guy that can just take over the whole operation and just lead this thing forward.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, CJ Shroud had his last good game against the Steepheads.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_06]: I was posting that on on next day when I was watching a game like I can't believe this is the guy that shredded us as a rookie I mean, think about it.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_07]: He went off against us as a rookie and then the next week I don't think he did anything against Baltimore in the last two years.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_07]: He's been mid.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_07]: His last like great game was against us against this defense.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_07]: The defense that everybody loves Was that this that this was his last good game was against this defense.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah
- 28:29[SPEAKER_07]: We've got a bunch of voicemails right.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_07]: Do we want to do a commercial then get into the voicemails right after?
- 28:35[SPEAKER_06]: Yep, let's do that.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_06]: We'll be right back after a quick break.

- 30:17[SPEAKER_07]: Welcome back.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_07]: I had one comment that I thought was funny and here real quick is it is from Brad.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_07]: He says one thing I don't want to happen is we have a guy in the building.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_07]: We didn't hire and he goes to another team to be successful.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_07]: You mean like most likely what our head coach is probably you mean you mean we had a guy in the building and then we fired him He's probably going to go win 10 or 11 games to go to the playoffs next year He probably meant Mike Vraeval be honest with you, but
- 30:43[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, well, I feel like it's probably gonna happen again in variable wasn't staying here.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_06]: No, and I did want, I saw something in the chat and I was looking at it over the break there.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_06]: Jim Schwartz did deal with some health problems after his stint as the head coach in Detroit.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_06]: So he did have some health issues.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_06]: He had to step away from coordinating for a few years and that kind of stuff.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_06]: So I guess maybe that probably played to a little bit why he didn't take a head coaching job anywhere.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_06]: definitely not recently and you you think about how often these defensive coordinators like even this year.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_06]: How many of these defensive coordinators on these stud teams are getting head coaching interviews?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_06]: Jim Shores didn't get any last year or the year before.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_07]: And and there's a third of the league is open right now.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_07]: Yep.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_07]: Yep.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_07]: Okay.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_07]: And
- 31:33[SPEAKER_07]: He doesn't have to stay in Cleveland, you know, he can get out of his contract in Cleveland, and he's interviewed here in Baltimore.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_07]: Yep, Baltimore.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_07]: And I'll be honest, I said this one Baltimore requested the interview.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_07]: I said, I feel like they're trying to rush us into just making him our head coach.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, they're like because we don't want to lose them to Baltimore, so they're just trying to, it's like when we requested Monk and when they still had hardball and we were just kind of kind of putting the screws to them a little bit, that's what it felt like to me because nobody else is requested to interview him.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_07]: He's interviewed nowhere else.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_06]: Absolutely.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_07]: A third of a league needs a coach.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_07]: This guy coach, the defense that supposedly the best defense in football and the only place he's interviewed is here in Baltimore.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_06]: And you got the Rams D coordinator, the Seahawks, the Packers, the Chargers, all these other, the guy from Carolina, their defensive coordinator.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_06]: These guys are all getting a couple of head coaching interviews, it is weird, is odd.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_06]: But, all right, let's get into some voicemails here.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_06]: All right, first one is from Justin, not our Justin, the other Justin.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: What's up dog podcast, that's your friendly neighborhood Brown's fan, Justin out here in Jersey again.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: Seeing a lot of stuff going on, it is starting to look a little bit like Harbalm, might be out of the question, just due to the crickets and everything I can see in the media, he would've, you know, still be my first choice.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: But if not honestly, my second choice would be McDaniel because he is very offensive-minded.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: I keep seeing all these interviews that are happening being requested and all the ones that say defensive coordinator, we really need to eliminate.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: Because we already have great defense, great defensive coach, right?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the only thing that gets tricky is if Jim shorts leaves and takes a head coach position, and I pray to God, it's not in Baltimore.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_02]: And if that's the case, then I honestly don't even know at this point like who we would go for.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm praying that we keep Jim shorts at defensive coordinator and we get
- 33:50[SPEAKER_07]: uh... obviously that was so in a few days ago before the harbour sure which i guess we can talk about there was no world heart way harbour was coming here that was not going anywhere except for me ultimately like there i i said through a blank checkbook at him the problem is they're all billionaires taking all through a blank checkbook at him and they all don't have our quarterback room our offensive line our wide receiver room our owner like
- 34:18[SPEAKER_07]: There was zero chance.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_07]: He's had a front row view of the dumpster fire that is the Cleveland Browns for two decades.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_07]: He was not coming to Cleveland.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_07]: There was zero chance in hell.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_07]: That was ever going to happen.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_07]: So a name that he brought up, though, was Mike McDaniel.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_07]: And I do think that is a name.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_07]: Like, I think he would be a decent candidate for the Browns.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_07]: And at,
- 34:40[SPEAKER_07]: It's just tough because I don't know.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_07]: He's just a little bit odd and when sometimes geniuses are and he's definitely like an offensive genius.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_07]: And that's a guy that I feel like the last two seasons.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_07]: I just hope in Miami would fire him and we could snatch him up as an offensive coordinator.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_07]: I don't think you'd be able to get him as an offensive coordinator.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_07]: Now there's too many head coaching openings.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_07]: I think he's better on the head.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_07]: Yes, he's going to get a head coaching job.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_07]: And if he's going to settle for no see, there's way better OCO.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_07]: Correct.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that's way better, bro.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_07]: That's a full saying as just like a football fan.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_07]: If we don't hire him, and I almost prefer that we don't.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_07]: So we don't ruin him.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_07]: I'd love to see him in Detroit.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_06]: That's like the the pie in the sky for some of these O.C.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_04]: What about the Eagles?
- 35:29[SPEAKER_04]: The Eagles position you will be good to.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_06]: That's another one where it's like that.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_06]: He's actually mulling over taking an O.C.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_06]: job.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_06]: Good O.C.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_06]: Think about like a Cliff Kingsberry did that, right?
- 35:40[SPEAKER_06]: Didn't go so well out near his own.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_06]: Got an O.C.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_06]: job.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_06]: Got his name back out there showed what he could do.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_06]: Now he's back in the head coaching circle again.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I like McDonald for the offense.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_07]: I guess here's the thing about caution.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_07]: Unless Andrew Barry pulls off just like the greatest offensive draft of all time again, I really don't care who we hire.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_07]: We're not going to have a good offense again next year.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_07]: I just don't see a world in which we get five new offensive linemen, three new wide receivers and maybe a quarterback will see what should do or does in the offseason and in one offseason and you need all those to be probably any good next year.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_07]: So it's bad.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_07]: Um, but I do.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_07]: I do like him.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_07]: The biggest reason why I don't want him is just because when we lose a game, I just don't want to listen to Browns fans in the media bitch like that his paints were rolled up for the he was wearing sunglasses.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_07]: How come this guy can't coach and see North football.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_07]: You wear sunglasses.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_07]: He is caprize or too high.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_07]: That's why he can't coach in the AMC North.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_07]: That's why we lost.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_07]: I just don't want to listen to that for like the next three years.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_07]: It all.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_07]: But if I can get over that, I think he's definitely, I mean, we won't get offense, right?
- 36:53[SPEAKER_07]: He drugged to us, sorry, yes, the playoffs twice.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_07]: Like, there's, he'll get a more creative offense if we get him in here.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_07]: That's for sure.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_04]: And a lot of like media personalities and Cleveland are saying that he's not really a great fit in Cleveland.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_04]: They're like, you know, he bases all of his stuff off speed and we are missing that on the roster.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_04]: Keep in mind, we're about to go into another draft where we're probably gonna, why would think take in a lead playmaker on offensive side of the ball pretty high up?
- 37:22[SPEAKER_04]: And we're heading towards a similar situation where the weather's not gonna matter in two years.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_04]: Speed, all those things that people are arguing won't,
- 37:31[SPEAKER_04]: We can't make it a factor in the FC North.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be like Miami North in two years.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_04]: In a huge dome where the field's conditions are going to be perfect.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_04]: There's not going to be, you know, dude sliding all over the place.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_04]: You'll have two years to draft some speed.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_04]: So I think the argument that the roster isn't good enough to bring in a stylistic coach like McDonald's is just kind of a soft take.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_04]: I think there's nothing wrong with what we can build around that.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_06]: My like, I do like Mike McDaniel to an extent of my drawback, my hesitation with him is just hiring a guy that came off a team that fired him because they underperformed from expectations and they had, they were having like players, only meetings and things and there was like, I know they played well the last stretch of the season and they were fighting and stuff, but there's just seem to be some dysfunction and they're we saw them.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_06]: Cleveland, we rolled them this year when they came into Cleveland and
- 38:24[SPEAKER_07]: I just feel like there's something about either almost getting beat by Cleveland or getting beat by Cleveland turns your season around because last year we took the Eagles to the wire and I didn't think they were going to win another game.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_07]: They won 15 to row and won the Super Bowl.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_07]: This year we steam rolled the dolphins and I'm like, they're not good.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_07]: They're the worst team in football and they won like seven games after that.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_07]: It's crazy.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, you're right.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_06]: I just think that fans, the media, everybody in the fan base of Cleveland Browns is going to have a lot less patience with a guy like Mike McDaniel.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_06]: Sure.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_06]: Then they would, because if you bring in a younger guy and you say, listen, we know this is going to let's do this for a few years and see how it looks.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_06]: It sucks.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_06]: Nobody wants to hear that, but I think that's the reality.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_06]: You're much more
- 39:08[SPEAKER_06]: I feel like understanding of a young guy growing with the roster and implementing his offense then a guy that was just a head coach somewhere else and comes in here and now we win four games.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_06]: It's like, oh, geez.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_06]: Here we go.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_06]: Get the guy out of here.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_07]: Well, it's one of those things where you should expect to win four games next year.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_07]: Just like you should have expected it this year.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_07]: But that's an option.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_07]: I would take him.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_07]: I take the kid out of Jacksonville.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_07]: Honestly, that's probably like my short list if we're being honest.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_06]: You did get my one.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_06]: He's my one.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_06]: I just think everything I've heard about him and listen to.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_06]: coaches that have been with him before quarterbacks that have had him Trevor Lauren, Sam Darnell, they love the guy.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_07]: There they nobody can say a bad thing about him and just have smarty is and I guess if I'm playing Devils advocate because I don't I don't he's he's definitely like he's him and McGaine or the two guys my my devil's advocate to that is
- 40:06[SPEAKER_07]: We think he's an offensive genius, but we don't really know, because he doesn't call plays.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_07]: He's never not been with, you know, Kevin O'Connell or Liam Cohen.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_07]: So we don't know what he can do.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_07]: We know that Mike McDaniel could put a creative offense on the field, like we watched him do it.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_07]: To that, that would be like,
- 40:25[SPEAKER_07]: if if I had to pick between the two, it's like, then I feel like you're you're split in hairs, you know what I mean?
- 40:31[SPEAKER_07]: Um, and I feel like, which should be patient when Mike McGale's 40 years old, 40 years old, you know what I mean?
- 40:36[SPEAKER_07]: Like, he's a young creative.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_07]: I'm not saying he's also creative communication.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_06]: He's patient.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_06]: I'm just saying I I can see it being inpatient with the fan base if there's not
- 40:48[SPEAKER_06]: decent success soon.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_07]: Like I said, I think the impatience would breed from his pant leg.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_07]: I'm being you guys are laughing, but you know I'm right.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_07]: I'm laughing somebody know you're right Somebody in here said this sounds like something the ultimate Cleveland Sports Show would talk about on their show Very hard because it's it's exactly something they would talk about I can hear it now, but But yeah, though that that's definitely my short list of guys He's the grants he's like he's crazy young and again like
- 41:23[SPEAKER_07]: out of nowhere like are we going to be patient because we don't really have the history of being patient.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_04]: He's basically Kevin O'Connell's, like, protege.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_04]: That's basically, that's pretty much what it is.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_04]: Like some of the stuff, Josh, I don't know if you've come across any of this, but some of the stuff that you read about him basically, like, Kevin O'Connell just glazing hardcore.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_04]: Big time, like, blown away by the kid, just work ethic, everything, how he understands football, how smart he is about how just the offensive, you know, that side of the ball.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_04]: I'll let you, you know, continue to glaze.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_06]: He, he made Yudinsky his personal assistant.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, at like, what, 25 years old?
- 42:10[SPEAKER_06]: because they just he saw like this guy.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_06]: Everybody in every coach that you talk, you know, here talk about great indiskeys said, oh yeah, he's going to be a head coach.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_06]: He's going to be a great head coach.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_06]: Like they all believe in what he has and what he can do.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_06]: So that's why I'm intrigued and I'm and I've already said this earlier in the week on the podcast.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_06]: But I'm just my personality.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_06]: I'm a little more enamored by the unknown.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_06]: Like there's unknown upside there.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_06]: Not that there's, you know, we can't have unknown upside with McDaniel, but we've kind of seen what he can do, and it can be good, and it can be not so good, but
- 42:44[SPEAKER_06]: I'd rather take the shot.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_06]: I'd rather take the shot at the lottery ticket than not, but that's just my personality.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_04]: I worry that my Daniels goes, my Densee goes, and we're even past that.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_07]: That's, you know that.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_07]: I guess, so I know my Daniels interviewed other places.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_07]: You didn't ski, you didn't ski interviewed other places.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_06]: Let me look it up real quick.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_06]: I actually don't think so.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_06]: I think you want to play a voicemail while you're looking at that.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, yeah, sure.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_06]: Let's, uh, this one's from Claude.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: Hey Ganks, um, I'll have a memorial, just wanted a quick story and a couple of questions.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_03]: So the name playing cards with a couple of buddies, Magic Gathering, and my buddies, Johnny Big Washington fan, search Reagan on me for being a Browns fan, the same old stuff that I'm sure a lot of Browns fans here.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_03]: And in the middle of his ran, I just snap and I go, well, at least the Browns finish with the same record as Washington.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_03]: And his eyes just go wide, he didn't even realize this, pull this phone out when he did
- 43:42[SPEAKER_03]: and that just all great.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_03]: But he's asking what the organization is going to do.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, I don't know, dude.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_03]: I'm, I don't know football.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not going to pretend I do.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_03]: I just love the Cleveland Browns.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_03]: I love the connection.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_03]: This team gives me with my American family, like I'm in Canada.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_03]: So it's a great talking point.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_03]: But so I'm curious, do you think in our coach hunt that a experience coach that's been older will have a hard time connecting with the younger players as the league changes?
- 44:14[SPEAKER_03]: And vice versa, do you think a younger coach will have a harder time commanding the room?
- 44:20[SPEAKER_03]: Not sure, but in this event touched.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_03]: And then also going to the draft.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think the influence of Paul D. I can't say his name.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry anymore.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it'll change the influence of how we approach the draft.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you guys.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_03]: Well, sure.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_06]: Hope so.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_04]: I think so.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_04]: He's still got fingerprints, you know, that are just lingering around on analytics stuff.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_04]: But you got to hope, hey, if a guy is just really athletic and good at football, draft that guy, draft him.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_06]: We're hoping that last year's draft was like a window into that.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_06]: Maybe maybe.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_06]: A.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_06]: B.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_06]: In the scouting department, those guys just got away from all the non-sense that deep a desk was doing for the last decade.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_06]: And that's why we hit on so many of these guys.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_04]: And maybe they just sort of kick rocks, Paul.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_04]: We're doing this on our own tonight.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_04]: We're driving into the gym.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're taking this guy, dude.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_04]: They let him have you think five?
- 45:15[SPEAKER_07]: I do think it's funny that his buddy didn't realize that the Browns had won.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_07]: uh... just as many games as the uh... is the commanders and it kind of made me think for a second you like to realize the br- the brounds one five games the only one a couple less games in the cults they won the same the only one one less game the king's city chiefs king's city chiefs have petrick moholps
- 45:45[SPEAKER_07]: Not for this, they only had, they only won two less games in the Cowboys, same amount of games as the Commanders, they only won four, I guess, four's kind of a lot in a 17 game season.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_07]: The entire NFC South only won eight games.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I mean, so it's like the Browns for, and I, I'd make the argument, the Browns are easily the worst offensive roster out of all those teams.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_06]: Oh yeah, Ryan Shottenheimer is another name on that list that I forgot to mention earlier coaches that get promoted from within.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_06]: He was the offensive coordinator.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_06]: You got promoted head coach and they went seven, nine and one his first year there with deck press got seeding lamb, George Pickins, Javante Williams, it's
- 46:32[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know, man.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_06]: I'm just not a big fan of promoting the coordinator's up to head go.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_06]: From your point of view, it has interviewed anywhere else.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_06]: Okay.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_06]: So I looked at up.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_06]: The Cleveland Browns are the only team so far that's interviewed him.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_06]: They, we, so we did a zoom.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_06]: We've, we've done a zoom with everybody so far.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_06]: We had ours with him yesterday.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_06]: I saw reports that said it took the full, a lot of three hours that you're allowed to interview a guy and it went the whole time and then he got his second interview today.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_06]: Like the very next day with the Browns.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_06]: So I don't know if that's just because he interviewed last of all the candidates that got a second round or he was just that impressive that the very next day they said we want a second interview with you.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know which way it went or maybe it was both.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_06]: But he just he's exciting to me.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_06]: I like him.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_07]: It's I guess then if I was going to hear to are you with you, I'd say you don't want gym shorts because nobody's interviewed him, but you want the guy who's nobody else's interviewing me that coach.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, literally nobody else nobody else.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, George's way the head coach and it did not go well.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_04]: Way all that's I got your bag Josh Blake he wants the offensive guy.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, not the defensive guy very different from very different.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_04]: You trickster I know I just I'm just using I'm just yeah, I know what you're doing.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I know what he else is interviewing this guy.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_04]: Let me stir that I know what you're up to.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_06]: which I guess remember the Jacksonville hired him he was not the offensive coordinator for the Vikings and they hired him straight in to be their offensive coordinators.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_06]: So you know they took a swing on him too because they didn't even call the plays though like how yeah but we I've already covered this a lot like play coins a thing that we're going to get away from his fans in the NFL right now because
- 48:19[SPEAKER_06]: pretty much every head coach now has been a coordinator that called plays is now calling place for their team.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_06]: So their coordinators don't call the plays.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_06]: So the new.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_07]: But you said take a you said take a swing.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_07]: It's not really taking a swing.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_07]: Liam Cohen's going to be in charge of the offense.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_07]: Call the plays and design most of the plays.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_07]: He's just a figurehead.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_07]: It's not really that much of a swing to just put a guy there.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_07]: Hell, I could have been their offensive coordinator.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_07]: Liam Cohen's calling the plays designing the plays.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_07]: I think you're really undervaluing one offensive coordinator in the NFL does.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_07]: Well, then why do we put so much blame on Kevin for his offense when we had offense of coordinators because it was his offense, then it was Liam Cohen's offense.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_06]: Okay.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_06]: Well, I want to see what Grant you did.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_06]: He's offense.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_07]: That's like, that's what I'm saying, like, I'm just saying, like, nobody else wants to hire him or nobody else is even interviewing him.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_07]: It took us away.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_06]: I thought they didn't even handle that much for the last time.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_06]: Are you taking it yourself out of them?
- 49:15[SPEAKER_07]: He's on my short list for the same reason.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_07]: I think he's on yours.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_07]: He's an offensive guy.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_07]: And like Justin is saying, first of all, we fired a coach in a bad year.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_07]: I don't think there's really that many great candidates out there.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_07]: And we're not going to get the best one was Jim Harbour or John Harball.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_07]: We weren't getting him.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_04]: This is the only way that I would present it.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_04]: And this is the way I'm thinking of it.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_04]: A lost bag is still available.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_04]: That is a number one pick and a franchise quarterback attached to it.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_04]: That's an attractive job.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_04]: Tennessee has a number one pick franchise quarterback attached to it.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_04]: That's an attractive job.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 49:54[SPEAKER_04]: Baltimore.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_04]: There's reasons that you want to go to Baltimore.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_04]: And then after that, it's like, okay, well, we're still left over.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_07]: Who else is left over?
- 50:02[SPEAKER_04]: The Browns.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_04]: Pittsburgh.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_07]: The Browns are the third best job in the division.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_07]: That's available.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_06]: Right.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I mean, I agree.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_06]: Well, you know, we got a super chat here from Rick Agon said, what coach would you hate to see the most go to the Steelers?
- 50:22[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_07]: It's so tough to, I saw the, I think Mike McCarthy's interviewing there.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_07]: I saw that because it's, it's tough because I,
- 50:33[SPEAKER_07]: I wouldn't have let Tom and go.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_07]: I just would have, I guess there was mutual.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know how much it was mutual or I think it was a him.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_04]: I think it was a him decision man based on.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_06]: He was probably ready to take a break.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, but I would have like Tom and to me, I just would have been like, you can't hire.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_07]: an awful offensive coordinator.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_06]: He's getting head coaching interviews, man, Tennessee's Arizona interested in Arthur Smith.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_06]: I don't want to understand it.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_07]: No, like, so I think it's tough.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_07]: Like who are you going to hire?
- 51:04[SPEAKER_07]: Just like the Ravens.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_07]: Who are you going to hire?
- 51:06[SPEAKER_07]: Who's better than John Hartball?
- 51:08[SPEAKER_07]: You're not.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_07]: Like who are you going to hire?
- 51:11[SPEAKER_07]: That's better than Mike Tomman.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_07]: No, but you're not so it's so hard to say I want to say I don't want them to get like some great offensive mind I know because that's kind of that's kind of been their Achilles heel since Ben left There's they're just utter lack of offense Where were you going to say Josh?
- 51:32[SPEAKER_06]: That's a that's a good point.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_06]: I know they've interviewed Nate Sheelhouse for their head coaching job I kind of don't want to see them get Bryan Flores
- 51:40[SPEAKER_06]: Um, could I just feel like that could be a fit for them?
- 51:44[SPEAKER_04]: I, man, I was especially if it gets a coordinator.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_07]: The part like I said though, if he gets it right and then he gets the coordinator, is he going to be stuck or are they going to be stuck, replacing him every year?
- 51:58[SPEAKER_07]: Like Tom was dead.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_07]: Um, but no, I could, Brian Flora's with their, they had the number one paid defense and football.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_07]: Brian Flores with that defensive unit.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_07]: That would be tough.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, who don't you want to see?
- 52:13[SPEAKER_07]: Who don't you want to see in Baltimore with Lamar?
- 52:18[SPEAKER_07]: You got to think somewhere that like a Mike Mike, what about him to do interview it?
- 52:22[SPEAKER_07]: you're like, I don't want somebody like that.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_05]: They're in a bar.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_07]: You know what I mean?
- 52:26[SPEAKER_07]: Like, I'd hire him here just to keep him out of there.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_07]: Because think of the things he'd come up, I mean, and they have like, as they flowers as a receiver, he could definitely do some things with, you know, they still got Derek Henry.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_07]: I know he's getting older, but he's probably still going to have juice left in the tank.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_07]: He looks great still, and you have a Lamar.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_07]: That's.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_07]: I don't need some some whiskey going and getting to play it call plays with the mark.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_04]: Honestly, it doesn't really matter with Baltimore.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_04]: They're pretty loaded on both sides of all.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_04]: Whatever that coach brings to the table is going to improve what they're doing.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they're they're pretty set.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_07]: So it's just it's one of those things like when we're
- 53:15[SPEAKER_07]: what's going to be left and if you if you really are bright up and come or and you have and you only get a first opportunity once, you know, why would you take it here?
- 53:25[SPEAKER_07]: You didn't even know who your quarterback's going to be next year.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_07]: Like we all think should or right now, but none of us really know what a new coach is going to bring in do it to Sean might start next year in week one of
- 53:44[SPEAKER_06]: I saw a little bit of speculating about that like are these offensive guys coming in here saying hey, I think I can work with the shon I mean I guess if I really wanted a head coaching Opportunity put that in your pitch because you know he's gonna be here and you know the Browns invested everything into him Can't what I don't know if you could roll him out on the field.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_04]: I can't wait for that 30 for 30 where he balls at his last year of his contract And we sign up for another five years to 130
- 54:13[SPEAKER_04]: That's what I was actually talking about that.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_07]: I said he'll come in and we'll play him next year and he'll play well and it'll be like, do we sign them?
- 54:24[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't want that conversation.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_07]: And you know, three quarters of the fan base is going to burn their jerseys if you even steps foot on the field.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_07]: It's just it that is I kind of I wish the Brown just wouldn't went the way the Broncos the Broncos just took the cap hit Yeah, you know, I mean they just they just said we don't compare the legs baby.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_06]: Let's go.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_07]: We just took it And they're like we'll figure it out.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_07]: We'll just take it and figure it out and now they're one game away from the Super Bowl like
- 54:52[SPEAKER_07]: we should have just.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_07]: Ouch, I mean, we were in five games this year.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_07]: How much if we just took the cap hit, how much worse could it have been?
- 55:01[SPEAKER_07]: You know what I mean?
- 55:01[SPEAKER_07]: It's not, it's not like we kept them on the roster and we made the playoffs because we didn't take the cap hit so we were able to add all this talent.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_07]: We won five freaking games with them on the roster.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_07]: Just take the cap hit and be done with it.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_07]: We're gonna suck you again next year anyways, probably.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_07]: Just take the cap hit and be done.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_06]: Well, I was going to say, we got a few voicemails left, but I think what I can do honestly, I can hold these over because these could get into more discussions about other things.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_06]: I'll hold these over for another show later this week.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_06]: Last question I want to ask you guys, and then whatever else we want to talk about before we wrap.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_06]: I've seen Quincy Carrier multiple times now on X posting about, if only the Brown said lost those last two games, then we could have the number one pick right now and take Fernando Mendoza.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_06]: Like, that's where his mindset is.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_06]: How do you guys feel now?
- 55:48[SPEAKER_06]: Couple weeks removed from ending the season on a two game win streak, bumping us out of potentially getting the number one pick down to six, with a class that looks like it's got one quarterback.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_04]: Like I'm just I already talked about this last the other day on the discord show.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_04]: They this was brought up This is doesn't even matter done what it's done is done Living in a world where we talk about as Browns fans what ifs that's all we've done our whole lives We've got to get off of that it is what it is.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_04]: We won the fucking games.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_04]: We beat Pittsburgh.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_04]: We beat Cincinnati
- 56:23[SPEAKER_04]: It did it screw us in draft position.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe we don't even know yet.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_04]: The draft is still three months away.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_04]: Let's not act like we've died before even showed up at the draft.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_04]: Can we just chill for two seconds as a fan base?
- 56:35[SPEAKER_04]: God, Jesus.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_04]: Go ahead.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_04]: God.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_04]: It's frustrating.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_07]: What are we talking about?
- 56:42[SPEAKER_07]: I guess my thing is even if you draft it, if you had the number one pick and you drafted Mendoza, we'd still suck next year because now you'd have your quarterback and still nothing around him.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, you know, so it's just like either way you're looking at this year, I think we're probably at least another bad season away from the turnaround, unless like A, B, just
- 57:02[SPEAKER_07]: somehow like nails it or if we do go with like a McDaniels or Grant and they are great and maybe maybe we draft a mid-round like this is a guy who I've done for a long time why news and college but like what if like we bring in a Mike McDaniels or Grant Jinsky and in the sixth round we draft your Aller and you know in an actual good offensive coach gets
- 57:30[SPEAKER_07]: You know what I mean?
- 57:31[SPEAKER_07]: Because in your bank in like he never reached his potential at Penn State, because Franklin was trashed.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_07]: And now we put this, you know, six, six guy who can run and throw, and we put him with Mike McDaniels, and maybe they somehow do a quick turner.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_07]: But what are the chances of happening?
- 57:47[SPEAKER_07]: You know what I mean?
- 57:48[SPEAKER_07]: Like chances are the quarterback room is going to be Deshawn Watson, Shidorah Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 57:56[UNKNOWN]: And
- 57:56[SPEAKER_07]: It's, so I just, having the number one pick, you're still getting sucked next to your probably.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_07]: And honestly, like two years from now, who knows?
- 58:03[SPEAKER_07]: We'll see, but, I don't know, I just don't think it matters.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_07]: This team needs so much talent.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_07]: Honestly, if we had the number one overall pick, I maybe would have traded it for King's ransom anyways.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_07]: Like, I guess that is one side of the coin is if you weren't gonna take Mendoza because the quarterback just doesn't matter for this next year and you could come away with,
- 58:24[SPEAKER_07]: another three first round picks or in another second round pick this year or something crazy like that and add like we said we need eight guys on this offense and maybe a ninth if you if you think we still need a quarterback you need five linemen and arguably three wide receivers definitely too and depending on what a David joke who does probably a tight end
- 58:47[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, this offense, this offense needs almost.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_07]: You almost have to replace every starter on offense.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_07]: Outside of Quintrod, Judd, Kims, and Harold Fandett.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_06]: It almost makes you wonder, like, and I know I know there were draft picks spent in the Deshawn Watson trade, but what have we been doing for the last six years?
- 59:03[SPEAKER_06]: But Andrew Barry's been the general manager for six years.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_06]: And this is the offense we have, just completely decimated and nothing.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, Josh, we've definitely had this argument before.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_04]: We're, we're, trust me, we're there, dude.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_06]: We're like, it's a lot of a lot of excuses.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_06]: He's got to impress the shit out of me this off season, because I'm very close to zero faith in him.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_07]: I'll tell you what happened.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_07]: We traded for Sean Watson, and then he just never played.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_07]: and then all of our team got old and in sucked, what waiting for him to get healthy and be good.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_04]: Yep, and the draft mix that he is, the revitalizer roster are revitalizing a team in Texas.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's how it goes.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_07]: You'd give up all the picks and you brought him to Sean Watson and then you started picking defensive players to build the defense because you said, we got the quarterback, we got, we're gonna have a Mario Cooper.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_07]: You know, we got Nick Chubb and then to Sean Watson plays never because he's always hurt.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_07]: Nick Chubb blew his knee out and immediately then broke his leg.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_07]: You know, the offensive line went from top three to the worst info ball waiting for the guy you traded for to be your franchise quarterback to eventually become your franchise quarterback.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_07]: And he's just never going to do it.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_07]: That's, that's a, you could write a book on how to kill a franchise.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_04]: Didn't 24, we're the highest paid offense.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_04]: and look like cheques.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_06]: Oh my gosh, do we ever did?
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_06]: It's kind of, it is kind of crazy to think we traded for Deshawn Watts in that 26 years old to be the immediate franchise court, right?
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_06]: Not like, oh, he's got to develop.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_06]: No, like, he was already established as a franchise quarterback in the NFL already.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_06]: Got that second big contract with Houston, all that kind of stuff.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_06]: And the next time we're gonna see him on the field, he's gonna be 30 or 31.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_06]: I don't even know, but like, he's not even close to the same player.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_07]: We got a couple of minutes here with when we traded for Deshawn.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_07]: We had a Mark Cooper right.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think so.
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_04]: He came that off season.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_04]: We got him that off season.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, so we got him.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_07]: So, but in then we had Nick Chub, cream hunt.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_07]: Offensive line was top three.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_07]: We had Hollywood.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_07]: We had David Joku.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_07]: Like we had an offense that could do things.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_06]: I don't think Hollywood.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_06]: He went to Carolina, the same your Baker did.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_07]: OK. And then it immediately suspended.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_07]: So now you're playing with your backup quarterback for 11 games, and then the next year, injured, playing entire season with backups.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_07]: Meanwhile, your top three offensive lines just getting older and older and older and older and older and older, and then the next year, injured again right away.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_07]: It's just
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_07]: I've made this argument before, since we traded for the Sean, we played 85% of our games with a backup quarterback.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_07]: And I was just trying to dig through some stats a couple weeks ago, the league, it's like the average win percentage of teams that start a backup quarterback since the year 2000, it's like 23%.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_07]: So I mean, we're basically right there, except for, in theory, went to the playoffs, starting five different battles, four different backups.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, 20 or something.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_06]: We're like driving that number.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_07]: And to like, to the, you wonder what happened to the offense.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_07]: Teams don't usually win when they have to play a backup, and we've played exclusively backups since we got rid of Baker Mayfield.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_07]: Almost exclusively of all been backups.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_07]: So it's,
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_07]: It's part of the course, just look at the league average when you're forced to play the back.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_07]: So.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_07]: All right.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_07]: Well, do we have anything else we want to get to or was that everything?
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_04]: Justin, were you going to say something there?
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_04]: No, I was going to say is just what the offensive line backup is a kind word.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_04]: We're pretty much just practiced squad and below at some point.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, look, look.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_07]: Look at the tackle situation the last two years.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's... We didn't learn anything.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_07]: It's making my hand hurt.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_07]: Let me get you an aspirin brother.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_07]: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_07]: It's just...
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_07]: It's just...
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, honest, God, the fact we won five games is almost a miracle.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_07]: Like, I was joking with somebody the other day and I said, When in five games got Kevin fired, I could make the argument.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_07]: They should have gave him another extension.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_07]: But like... We won five games with... With...
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_07]: This, this offensive roster, I mean, it is O and 16 and one and 15 levels bad.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_07]: It is, it is atrocious.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_06]: We're, let just lucky the, the defense is what it was, because had offense wasn't taken to anywhere this year.
- 1:04:01[SPEAKER_07]: And despite that, we're like eight plays away from having eight or nine wins.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_07]: It's kind of crazy.
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_06]: A couple of things go different ways in some other games.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_06]: We don't shit the bed on defense of drives here, they're, you know, don't give up two or three hundred points to down against the jets, the jets and then, you know, suck against the planes.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_06]: We could be fighting for the division.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_07]: It's crazy.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_07]: You could go through and probably pick out 10 plays that if they went the other way the browns are competing for the division at the end of the year with this offensive roster just it's mind blowing.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_06]: That's the NFL and that honestly that's why I love the NFL so much.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_06]: It's just the parody and you just you just never know you just never know you're watching these games.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_07]: All right, we'll wrap this thing up.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_07]: We're a little long-winded.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_07]: We haven't all been together in a couple weeks, so we had to Yeah, we went a little bit long But we appreciate you guys being here hanging out with us even into the offseason.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_07]: It's an exciting coaching search.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_07]: Some people said I was being really negative It's hard to be positive right now.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_07]: You you fired a coach you immediately get tired
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_07]: It's a huge pay raise.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_07]: League of things that were stupid for firing them.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_07]: We're interviewing passing game coordinators that probably don't even want to come here anyways.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_07]: They're just thankful for the opportunity to interview.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_07]: It's kind of tough to be positive right now for being honest.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_07]: This is me, man.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_07]: I'll be, I am excited.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_07]: I am excited to see who they pick.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_07]: and see what they can do, but I mean, it doesn't, the future's not bright right now.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_07]: At least not the immediate future.
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_07]: At least I don't think so.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_07]: I think, I think we're in a dark dark place right now.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_07]: So we'll see.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_07]: We'll see.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_07]: I know some people are really happy, but I just think the grass isn't always greener.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_07]: But we'll wrap this thing up.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_07]: We appreciate you guys being here.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_07]: It'll be an interesting.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_07]: Maybe the next time we talk to you, we'll have a new head coach, we'll have some stuff to get into talk about the outlook for the season.
