- 0:13[SPEAKER_03]: What's up everybody?
- 0:14[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome on in that time of week, suitors on SI Padcast taking off here at SEC Media Day edition of the suitors on SI Padcast.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_03]: We're coming to you.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe the day wins day.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_03]: So you've had Kaylin DeBore, John Summerall, goes to wait on the afternoon of slate, which includes Elco and the Aggies, and then certainly the Lane Train and Sark
- 0:34[SPEAKER_03]: LSU in Texas is on Thursday.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: So just a programming note off the rip if someone trashes on you and drags them through the mud, we did not get that from the afternoon slash final day of SCC media days.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_03]: But we have most of the normal crew here.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_03]: We've got our man, John Hoover, holding it down up in the 911.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_03]: John, this is year two of you kind of run and point from behind the scenes of SCC media.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_03]: Has it gotten any easier, any less photo for you, not being in Atlanta and then in Tampa?
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, it's gotten easier for sure.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: My man Brady is doing great job doing youngman's work down there, but or was, but no, I don't miss right it around with a microphone in a camera yelling questions over my my contemporaries from throughout the South Eastern Conference.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know strangely enough, I do not.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: You don't miss bad Wi-Fi in a building that's designed to have good Wi-Fi.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: You don't miss that at all.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, over price stakes and late nights.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't miss any of that.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_03]: couldn't be us, couldn't be us.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_03]: Carson field coming to us from a little bit south today, but that we're enjoying the last messages of the offseason as we are on a point two weeks away.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think on the dot from fall camp getting underway, Carson, how did you take in?
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: You and I did it in Atlanta last year.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: We were virtual this year.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think it went a okay.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, did just fine out here tracking things.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, great to hear what John Matier, Taylor Wine, and EDPR, Louis, venables, of course.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: They all had to say, it's just really exciting to, media days is always the sign that we're close.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's almost here a couple of weeks away to a fall camp.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: Funded to do so, get a little time with the fan.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: family, well getting some work done here in Liberty Hill just north of Austin.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: I went down too much spying on the long horns while I'm down here, but great to just kind of have all of these SEC coaches players talking from all of the 16 schools in this league.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: It really is a fun time of year, so can't wait for it.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_03]: We are in the mix for sure, Brady for all the time that Brady Trump has been in the bunker throughout the summer.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_03]: We let him out of the bunker.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_03]: He headed to Tampa because Brady is here with us.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_03]: Avers down the bunker.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_03]: So if anything breaks, good luck to everyone there.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_03]: Mr. Trump, let's start here.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_03]: You didn't quite have the very trample experience, which if anyone has listened to him speak about his $500 Uber for Miami to Tampa just to make it for Oklahoma on Monday, as see, media days.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't have that, but I was getting not a concern text, because Brady texted me after the fact, Brady, and how much of DFW were you having to huff through by yourself?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like the skylink, which is like, we're not doing it.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go around.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Admittedly, I picked two flights that were fairly close to each other.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I landed in Dallas at
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think 545 or 6 in the morning and the flight was scheduled to leave at 705, meaning it was going to start boarding, you know, 30 minutes later.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I land at the terminal that's right after the terminal I need to get to, the skyline train that's going that direction is under maintenance, so I have to go on the other one to go all the way around.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: So it's going to take about 15 to 20 minutes.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: I get about one-third of the way around.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: And once we get to that last station, doors open, lights go out, and then a few minutes later, you hear a message train under maintenance, we apologize.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I was, I just mapped it like on Google Maps.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: I was a mile and a half away from where I needed to be, and they were boarding.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think at that time, 10 minutes later.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I just walked in a direction.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: I had American Airlines in my ear on hold because I was prepared to be like, you guys need to figure something out and get
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: and fully expecting not to be able to make it after about 30 minutes of walking.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I round a corner and I get to terminal A finally, but I need to be at A35.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so I just sprint without thanking.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: I sprint without stopping.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think I was the third or second to last person on that plane.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't have to take the walk of shame, shout out to our mutual friend on the beat, Eddie Redosovich.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: the Cincinnati game in 2023 coming home.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: He was on our flight with me my wife and Eddie was the last person on the flight.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: We had to wait in the plane for an extra 10 minutes and he just ran up there but fortunately we were able to take off.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: I was able to take off on time and get the Tampa to do all the SEC media stuff.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: I did feel bad for the nice young lady sitting next to me on that flight to Tampa because I was
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: The entire time it's just I'm in shape.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not in great shape, so a preventable wills would be very upset with me I don't miss that at all
- 5:15[SPEAKER_03]: I was going to say, I'm glad it was Brady because Carson very active does a lot of stuff.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_03]: We get into like, how do you rate fit this stuff?
- 5:23[SPEAKER_03]: Brady does the lifting.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_03]: Here I know that who's very, very active.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_03]: I sit my ass on a pool deck basically and A, where I know it's children in the hot tub.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_03]: So if there was any one of us that needed to walk a thousand miles and spring through the airport, it was going to be Carson or Brady and I'm glad that I was at the disadvantage being the shortest person on the team of
- 5:43[SPEAKER_03]: I have to travel twice as far as I've already else at the time that happens, so no.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't have to just highlight, I had to hold up the plane.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think we were flying to Orlando, the cheeseball that was the greatest travel experience ever.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_03]: As we left who in a field, in Dad's head on Orlando, a Josh and I said, I hope we see our boss again one day.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_03]: We had to like hold the plane, I had to play, like, oh, I don't know where my boarding passes, because Eric Bailey was having to do the exact same thing.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_03]: He was hoping I don't believe it.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just like, a lot of people.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: And the worth of a boarding pass all right for God.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: We're just trying to like play a stall ball.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: Thankfully, eb made it.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: But once everyone made it to Tampa Brady, it's been a kind of a quiet off season.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't really know what to expect.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go a little bit chronologically.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, he was the first team up.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_03]: If you've listened to any SEC Media Day coverage, you feel like that.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: Once you get to the SEC, the coach heads up to their big podium, the stuff that you can watch on SEC Network.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_03]: But before that, they usually host a little bit of
- 6:37[SPEAKER_03]: more of informal, but it's a non video session with some of the local media that is before they go out there.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: So if you don't hear a ton of the Oklahoma beat asking Brent Riddles questions at the podium, which is because they had 15, 20 minutes to talk to Brent Metables.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it was that you're no vibe of Brent, because I'm so we didn't get to see that.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_03]: And also, I don't know what you thought was the most notable, but we did get an injury update, a positive one as the Oklahoma prepares to eat ready for fall camp here in a couple weeks.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the most notable thing from that scrum, and I wrote about it during the time Brett was on the podium, the televised one that you see on the S.C. network, was just about trail Harris, why do you see for transfer from Virginia, all ACC or missed all of spring with a pre-spring procedure that Brett Vendels had mentioned that they were fully aware of when he was transferring to Oklahoma, and I was just to clean up something from the previous season.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: And as of right now, a week ago, according to Britain, then we'll see it had been running routes at full speed for the first time.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: I guess as an Oklahoma sooner.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: So that's good for his trajectory to get it back, getting back on the field.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: I believe John McHears also mentioned that he's worked up, or it worked out with Trell Harris during the off season before this.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: So he's been able to run at some capacity heading into last week.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: So that's been good knowing that it's important for John McHears, and one of his more important receivers to have that chemistry.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: So that was probably the most notable thing from that scrum.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, I was trying to ask a follow up question about Tory Blaylock or Xavier Robinson, David Stone, Jane Jackson, all these players that were either held out of spring entirely or in Xavier's case, got her what two or three practices in to spring and then was kind of held out.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I believe, because we talked about this, everybody on the beat prior to that scrum, like, how do we address like the injury question?
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: Because Brett had kind of talked about it at the SEC coaches meeting up and destined.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: that everybody was healthy and good to go, but George Storya who asked that question from Sooner Scoop said that that was more of a general statement, not a specific one.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I wanted to ask specifically about those players.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: And as soon as I opened my mouth, my couch said, hey, he's got to go somewhere else, because as we on though, Brent does like to talk for a very long time.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: So we only got about five or six questions into this scrum.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: So that was the most pressing thing on a personal note, because we talked about this before we started recording guys.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if Brent had ever mentioned prior to Monday that our Mason Thomas had a torn quad after or during the Tennessee game which caused him to miss fall of November and then he came back for the playoff game against Alabama.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: That matters to nobody anymore because our Mason Thomas has gone to the NFL.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing you can do about it.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I guess if you're no you fan, you're kind of bummed because you're two most influential players, one-on-off, and it's one-on-defence geometry.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: And our Mason Thomas were playing hobbled to an extent with the hand and a torn quad apparently.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you can bounce back from a torn quad in just over a month.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: But on a personal note,
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: Historically, Armace and Thomas has cooked Caden Proctor.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: If Armace and Thomas was healthy and did what he does against Caden Proctor, I don't think the Miami Dolphin's Slet Caden Proctor with their first draft pick, and so now, as a Dolphin's fan, I just have to see here hope that a guy who was just big and doesn't have a reputation for working hard, is just going to suddenly work hard and be a good offensive tackle in the NFL, but they're probably going to pump him over to guard, so yay.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that really mattered to anybody, but it was something that kind of perked my ears out of, oh, he was really not just, uh, he's okay in a month.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_03]: The news is a group of guys that have earned her reputation for working hard this off season that Oklahoma offensive line.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: We had talked about it guys.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think they were going to talk about it any purely getting taken to SEC media day was that a sign was that something that a North Star things like that or was that just a
- 10:24[SPEAKER_03]: can grab through the Tampa Kid stuff like that.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_03]: Brady, I know that in the scrum he had talked about it, but Carson is Brady was hammering away and we're watching Brent Minibles out on the big podium stuff like that.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_03]: It is something that was repeated.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like any purely headed to SSME today was not just a token, Carson of,
- 10:42[SPEAKER_03]: Go back to Tampa, represent it, stuff like that.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_03]: And it sounds like it's Brit Vittal's rewarding him for an off season of good work.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_03]: And it would, whether it was Brent Vittal's talking about him, was Eddie going through it himself, or whether it was a guy like Taylor, why I'm talking about Eddie Perry Lee in the offensive line group at whole.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_03]: As a whole, it sounds like I know it's lifting and some OTA stuff through the summer, but it sounds like reflect me up as for you to the summer.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma's very excited about the growth and development that continued pathway for the offensive line as a whole.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, sure does, and I mean, we saw some flashes of brilliance from him, some of the other guys on that line last year, and it just sounds like throughout spring boss, some of the workouts they've had, he's just taking that next step, and that's huge getting a guy that's going to be a wrench or sophomore this year, still a young guy, but someone who's been able to step in be a young leader on this team, while your guys like Michael Fassousey, Ryan Fogey, they're also getting into bigger roles now.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: We've talked tirelessly about the spot that the offensive line was in last year, um, just as far as we don't know if this is going to look like there's some really good freshman, um, there are some older guys dealt with some injuries, where do they fall in, um, and while it still wasn't perfect, there were still plenty of lapses, the run blocking has to be better this year.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: It certainly was better than what this team saw in 2024.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: So progress, getting a guy like Eddie Pierre Louis, who heard his spot.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's not just the token, he's a good talker, he's from Tampa.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: This makes a lot of sense.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: But someone that they are confident and not just preventables who is cautiously optimistic, very often about his offensive lineman, his players.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's a whole but hearing what Taylor Wine, who goes up against Pierre Louis and the lineman
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: hearing what John material to say.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's really encouraging for this unit.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, with any, the biggest thing, I guess that people kind of took from one OU announced that here are the three guys that were sending.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Fast forward to that scrum prior to the televised one, Brent did mention that this was the hardest year by far that they've had to select their group of players to come represent their program.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously, when you have a
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's more than likely going to go and John is a good leader and defensive him.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: So he goes, Taylor winds a great representative of the defense of just how great it is.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's a great player.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to go into the season with a lot of hype.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: You got to have a third person and Brent had mentioned that there were a handful of guys that they could have picked, but any pair of Luigi.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: has demonstrated a growth in not just maturity, but in his ability to be a leader.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't want to name any names.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: I had a friend of mine reach out to me because when they announced that Eddie was going to be one of the three representatives, I had written on Sooner's on S.I.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: on our website that this was a positive sign that he has become the leader of the offensive line.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it needs to be him.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll get to why I think so in a minute.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: But a friend of mine said, ah, that's kind of a silly take.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you want to read into it that much.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's from Tampa, that's probably why.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: And that's fine to say, and I understand why it's the off season.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: So we have to write about something.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: But brints and the players and even Eddie himself, they all double down like no.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: He has taken that step.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I kept going back guys to we talked to him during Springball.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't remember exactly how I framed the question, but I asked Eddie something essentially about like his growth of things that you can't necessarily quantify on the field.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: So he had mentioned that I began focusing on the right stuff like on the right things and he didn't get into I didn't ask about what was what were you focusing on.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: That, to me, that was just enough to understand.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: He probably came in as a young player who was physically gifted.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we all saw the 40-yard dash video when he was coming to Oklahoma.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: Extremely physically gifted.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: But no doubt, had to grow up to an extent.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Whether that wasn't not to say that he's an immature kid or a bad kid or anything like that.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: Shoutout to his mom, his mom was there.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Lovely woman, I believe I saw her comment on one of our stories on our Facebook page, so shoutout to Eddie Pierre Louise mom.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: Not saying that he's a bad kid and he stretched the imagination, but he was a player just like a lot of 18 year old, especially ones that don't transfer in or that come into campus in the winter when he came in as a summer enrollee, that just simply need time to grow up as young as a young kid growing into a young man.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that time that he had spent up until about the Ole Miss game last year was just enough time for him to understand how to do it at the lowest level
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: and it was rather good.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: But go fast forward to the spring, fast forward to now.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's become the leader that the offensive line needs, and the reason why I think it needs to be him is because Michael Fassouzi and Ryan Fogey, and this is just my opinion, judging by the handful of times what we've talked to them, they're young and they don't necessarily have the temperament of being the unquestion guy.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Fassouzi is the most talented dude, and in two years he's going
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's very soft-spoken, he's very light-hearted.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: Eddie Pierre Louis is a ball of energy, and he's got, he's got a mean straight to him, like the healthy kind of mean straight that you want on the interior of your offensive line.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: I kept going back in my mind to Cody Ford guys when the few times, oh, use offense during his time, 2017, 2018, a few times that those offense started a game slow, what did he do?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: He would find somebody and then get a personal
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think Eddie Pure Louis has the ability to do that, so I think it was a good sign that he went to Tampa.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a sign that everyone should read into and judging by how Brent and the players and Eddie himself kind of characterize what it meant for him to be there.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think that speaks a lot too.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, this offensive line is not just going to be better because they have a year of experience under their belt.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be better because guys like Eddie Pure Louis have taken those necessary steps, not just physically, but
- 16:52[SPEAKER_03]: kind of, it reminds me of, I know we talked about this this obviously, last up season, excuse me, one of the last things we heard two springs ago was Troy Everett in the Red Room post spring game, basically saying like the best version of the Oklahoma offensive line has Eddie Pierle, we in it, and I think that some of the things Brady's problem talked about going to be a little bit of film study, it's a very familiar, um,
- 17:14[SPEAKER_03]: path, if you remember the spring, Danny, a coyote talked about what's the right things, have you run through every drill, how do you do films so you stuff like that?
- 17:21[SPEAKER_03]: But it was always a technique thing, less a temperament thing, bready purely, and we'll see that that'll even bear the fruit or it won't this fall.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: But John, how long has it been since you saw one of these Oklahoma opposites of Lyman or a couple of Oklahoma opposites of Lyman and thought to yourself,
- 17:35[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, you remember what that Joe Moore group, how personally they took things?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: Remember when they wiped Breckenhager off the map from Texas and then just, hey, you want to run your mouth, we are going to double-team you into oblivion and put a tape on film that is so aggressive that your football career is effectively over in this moment, because we just showed
- 17:56[SPEAKER_03]: That's who you are, not saying that there are many of those guys in the SEC that they're battling, but just that mentality, it's been a while since I thought that there's an Oklahoma office environment that in a healthy way wants to wipe someone off the face of the earth when they line up across from somebody.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you wrote this team, this offensive line seems to have that chip on their shoulder that kind of attitude, you know, they don't mind playing to the edge, playing to the whistle, it may be a little bit beyond.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: Brady said it very eloquently about EPL's growth, maturity, leadership,
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: looking you know at the things that he said and things as team made said things as coach has said I'll just go to one word that Brett Bettable said alpha he's the alpha he's an alpha he is something that you know for Suzy and ProJ like like Brady said those are good players those are guys going to be pros they're going to play football for a long time but in terms of fiery leadership and stepping up I love what Eddie said about
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was uncomfortable for me to try to do it at first, it wasn't natural, I had to force myself to do it, but I'm better at it now, I can do it now, I can lead this team, I can lead this offensive line, I go out and I say things to them and it makes sense to everybody.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's the vibe you're looking for if you're an offensive lineman at Oklahoma.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: You hear Bill Beatingbow in your dreams probably, yelling at you, you hear him in breakfast and you think, where's that coach?
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: Where's he at?
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you're sitting in traffic and you hear a bill beating ball on the radio and you might freak out, uh, that's a change of station put it to get put it put my, uh, put my iPod in whatever When you hear from a player when you hear from one of your contemporaries when hear from a teammate I think it carries so much more weight.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: I just think it's so much more powerful
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: to hear the things that a guy like Eddie Pierre Louis can project to his teammates.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: So we talked about this last week or week before, here are the Seniors that are going to tamp on.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now what's the story with Eddie Pierre Louis?
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: We know now, I think, what the story with Eddie Pierre Louis is.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_03]: Good news for you, who tuned the iPod is coming back around, it seems like so that it's no longer a dated reference if we appreciate.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say CD, but
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: You guys don't even know what CD's are.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_03]: That one is dated.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_03]: Carson, another one of those leaders going on a very different journey with job material.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_03]: He came in last year, unquestioned one team over.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_03]: And if anything, can't too much just not the right way to phrase it, but maybe put too much on his own shoulders.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_03]: And he has stuff he has to get better at absolutely.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_03]: But as you kind of watch him take the side podium, what did you make about some of his comments specifically talk about growing closer with Ben Arbuckle throughout last year
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: what I really liked is like he's done since the middle of last season when he started to struggle taking full accountability for his not so great performance at time is inconsistent see his issues with his mechanics his footworks um just being very accountable to himself and like you said he did mention that he's gotten a lot
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: Closer to Ben Arbockel Essers, some of his struggles, he talked about how those made him that much more disciplined and studying his bad performances, whether that's against Alabama and the playoff, where certainly there were some really big highlights, obviously the ball that Xavier Robinson dropped, the past that he had the Berks in the middle of the field, there were some highlights, but there was also the pick six that went a long way into determining the outcome of that game.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: Learning from those mistakes is performance against Texas, which obviously his first game back from injury, but he got intercepted three times in that one.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: I just thought I was refreshing.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_02]: You see a lot of quarterbacks in this sport that are able to take as much accountability, or you feel like it's kind of cliche when they do.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_02]: You can tell that it's wholehearted that he genuinely thinks that there's...
- 21:51[SPEAKER_02]: this much that he can get better at.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: He obviously is very connected with Ben Arbuckle, both being from Washington State previously.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I think sooner fans have to feel good about what he said.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously the defenses are no sourced that they're going to face this year.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's tough opponent after tough opponent, but I think more than anything it's got to be at least a little bit of optimism for the OU fans.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean with John,
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of felt, I mean, not bads the wrong word, but with his situation, this is not a very good environment for him.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I say that because if you can have a positive,
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: outlook on geometry, or whether you're a fan, whether you're a media member, that doesn't cover Oklahoma, so this is like your first and only opportunity to talk to him, because I talked to a handful of journalists that cover Texas, that cover Georgia, in the geometry of scrum, they all had great things to say about him.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, one of them said, if John has a good start to the season, he could be one of the best if not the best quarterback in the SEC, therefore in the country, and it's hard to argue with that, if that thing happens.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: You have that mentality though, because you look at last year and just not necessarily hand-wave it, but you table your expectations because, hey, he was hurt, you couldn't grip the football.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not a very accurate portrayal of what John Matier is.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: And two John's credit, he's already mentioned that, yeah, I made mistakes because of my hand, but not every mistake was because of my hand.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where he's tried to identify his flaws, talking and learning from Sam Bradford
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: make those mistakes fewer and further between because the mechanical stuff like it is what it is.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, I just think that John material going up to the podium and it's basically re-explaining all the stuff that happened last year.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's not indicative of who he is because he was hurt.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: If he gets hurt again, sure, he'll probably play similar.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: If he's healthy, we don't know.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know if there's a lot more to be had from John material.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know if that's about
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: The competition level from the Pac 10, Pac 12, mountain West schedule he was playing to the SEC is a gigantic step, and maybe this is what he's capable of.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think just anybody with a general eye for talent, no doubt can identify that John is talented.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that there's something to be said about not just being three or four years into the system under Binarbuckle like he is, but I think there's more to be said about being a second-year player,
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: in the SEC where each week that grind is not as much of a culture shock, I mean that's what I asked John at the podium was how important do you feel that experience is now that you know that each week is NFL draft pick over there and a field draft pick over there, even if the team isn't particularly good, South Carolina's got dudes all over the field.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: and he said that yeah that's going to be that's going to be big for me because it's not it's not new every week it's not something I have to learn I know the speed I know everything now and so I'm expecting as a result for him to be better and that goes well beyond the fact that well he was hurt like I just expect him to be better so not not necessarily the most ideal scenario for him to like have to talk to journalists about something that again we're not going to know until the you-tip game and as silly as this might sound guys
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to find out a lot in that U-TEP game, because we've seen Brett Minimal's teams open up against bad teams like U-TEP and not look particularly awesome, especially on offense.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: And if the offense looks great, the defense looks great, and Jon material looks efficient.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: sure of himself can make those throws.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're all going to feel so much more confident about OU's chances going in a Michigan then we do right now.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: So not much you can do in the talking part of the season, but everyone seems to have a very genuinely good opinion of him and thank very highly of him.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it's just we're going to have to wait until September to actually see if that that optimism bears fruit.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: Again, Brady, very well said this is one of those things where I'm going to crack the code for football for you guys So you listeners and viewers get your note pad out.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: This is how it works If the people around him play better John Matier could be in all SEC quarterback this year If you know you I don't know if you're going to need necessarily and all SEC performance from Isaiah Satanya, but he's gonna he's gonna need to play on that level
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: The new guys Parker Livingstone and we've talked about trial trial Harris Those guys have to you know show up those guys have to prove that what they did at their previous schools They can carry over and do it at Oklahoma.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: The young guys, you know like oh shoot what's his name?
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: Manny choice big fella, you know Jake and Jaden Petit.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's how you say his name flashy flashy flashy
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: true freshman young guys got to come up and make plays and think about all those tight-ends that they brought in those guys have got to make plays when the plays come to them you know don't make a bone headed play when you get an opportunity as we've seen from tight-ends at Oklahoma offensive lines going to be better the running game is supposed to be better we don't know who the off of running back is going to be the running game is a hole is supposed to be more productive at all that happens
- 27:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's to some of the tight ends and bring that in all that ready that there's a North Star for Jim Naggi and put it as much talent to take stuff off of job materials played throughout the season.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean that that was probably the other thing that kind of picked my interest when Brent was talking was man he is putting a lot of.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: optimism and hype around the tight ends.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: And look, I think we're all under the assumption that the very, it feels weird to say a safe assumption when we've seen these guys play no snaps as Oklahoma sooners with a rookie position coach and college football in Jason Whitten.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: It feels very weird to be sure like very safely optimistic about it's going to be an improvement because that that just speaks more to how bad it was.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Jerren Canick for his talented as he was, he got the most that he possibly could have.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: as a tie-in slash slash receiver, however you want to characterize him.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he did make an all SEC team as a result.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: So you got to give him credit for that.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: But whenever he was asked to do tie-in things, like go be the lead blocker.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: His lack of size really showed itself.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: And so having legitimate tie-dins and two of them being from the SEC and Hayden Hanson and Jack Van Dorsler from Florida and Tennessee respectively and Rocky Bears with his production, even at a place like Colorado State, it's really hard to look at that production in
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still kind of surprised that Brent is just allowing the fans to salivate at the thought of oh you having a strong tight in room because when the coach is being that brazen about yeah we transform the tight in room using words like that I feel like you could potentially be setting them up to fail because if they're not
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: all American market Andrews like our fans going to be upset or are we going to be upset as people covering the team of like where is that tight introduction that we were somewhat promised but again i think it's safe to say it's going to be better just because it was it had been so bad the last few seasons but even still
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not going to say that I 100% subscribe to this guy's, but anything you want to say about Jason wouldn't as a coach like all the good stuff like he was a great in college, a great in NFL future NFL Hall of Famer, he's already like helped sign a five star and send a driver the number one side in the country for the class of 2027.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: He only been I know you coach for about a month at that point.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: uh he brought in he helped bring in or at least the thought of Jason Witten being the next Titan coach helped bring in those three Titans that OU will have in 2026, but all the good things that you want to say about him is a coach.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: They were the same things a lot of people were saying about Demarco Murray when he took the running back coach job and full of years ago as a former grade at OU, a former grade in the NFL, no doubt he's going to be able to just
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: easily recruit, easily develop, easily coach guys, and that's not how it worked out.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: So while there's still a lot of great optimism and hype for the Titans, again, just like John Mathier and his improvement, I'll believe it when I see it.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: So, Brady, let me ask you this.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, would you rather have
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you think OU fans in general would rather have good production finally for a change out of the tight end room?
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: Or would you rather see those numbers go to wide receivers?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's really, really rare guys, I'm talking 2008, Kevin Wilson as the offensive coordinator that you're quarterback can throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns that everybody gets to eat.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: Usually it's either one or the other or a little bit of this, a little bit of that.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's really hard to think about that answer, John, just because the handful of years been our buckle has been an offensive coordinator.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that it's even unfair to judge what he did at Western Kentucky, judge what he did at Washington State and say, that's what he wants to do.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to do it at Oklahoma.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's what he was able to do with that level of talent.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: When you have Oklahoma level of talent, as an offensive coordinator, as a playcaller,
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: you kind of can spread your wings to an extent.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh, I've got these shiny toys that I didn't have in Pullman, I can do this now.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: So we're still finding out what Ben Arbuckle wants to do, um, ideally, philosophically with the talent that he has.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: When we saw John material healthy last year, he liked having Jared and Kannick as a as a safety net to an extent.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: But at six foot one, at tie
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: not the easiest target to throw to if you're like oh god i'm getting pressure there he is over the middle just throw a jump ball he's going to make that catch well rocky beers and Hayden Hanson can probably do that because they're both six foot six foot set like they've got the size
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: You want the Titan to be a big part of your passing game because it puts so much stress on the defense, on the fence of backs, on linebackers, if they're not confident that they can't cover everybody, it makes it that much easier if you're an offense.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of spreading the wealth more to the wider severs, that's something that we do kind of know somewhat for certain.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: when it comes to the pairing of Ben Arbuckle and Emmet Jones.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: Neither one of them likes to dip into the pool of talent that they have.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: They have three to five dudes that they want to play and they are going to play them.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: Danny Stutsman, 22 level of snaps.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: Again, like they will play them from start to finish.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: So we know Isaiah Satania is a dog, we know and hope that Parker Livingston and Trell Harris can also be guys alongside Isaiah Satania and after that, yeah, I would like Rocky Bears or Hayden Hansen or Jack Van Dorsler to be a big part of the passing game because it makes it that much harder to defend against your offense if the Titan is that much of a threat.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_03]: We're all the mouths to be fed, especially if you're leaning on the run game.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_03]: This kind of gets back to some of the jomits here, giving him an incomplete year ago, because like you look at the Texas game, a lot of those balls, you're like, yeah, you're asking a guy who can't get the football to throw down field is that the wisest thing.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_03]: But if you go pre-entry, first three games every week we come in we're just like, okay, can you get through this game without the absolutely just mind-wintly dumb decision by geometry?
- 33:07[SPEAKER_03]: Do you hope that that's what?
- 33:09[SPEAKER_03]: Another year of film, things like that,
- 33:13[SPEAKER_03]: underthrows that you're like, why are you underthrowing when you know that you've got a safe game underneath?
- 33:18[SPEAKER_03]: You had, was it Countess Lewis who ended up with a football right in the space mass against Temple?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_03]: There was the intercept you get to Tennessee.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_03]: That wasn't a hand thing.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_03]: That's a why did you not just hand the ball off here, the entire LSU game felt that way and then I was like the PIXX could salvage.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_03]: There's stuff that's like part of it.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, acknowledgement of change mechanics.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_03]: There's also the part of it.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_03]: There's also the part of it.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_03]: He showed that he is the ability to freak out a little bit and that's going to be the big question of coming to year two.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_03]: Do you get a more poised verse of geometry and to be able to balance the gunslinger with, don't do the dumb thing, because if you're running the ball a lot better, that's going to be more opportunities to attack down field, but maybe less opportunities in total because you're hopefully moving the ball steady in and running some clock a little bit more.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, totally.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: He said that the two big things that you want to improve upon are accuracy and completion percentage, and I think those are the right two things.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_02]: And in addition to his mechanics, doing some work with those, you're right.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: There were even when he was healthy, games against a little bit of a state, Michigan, Temple.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: Some of those early games, he made some really rough decisions, under-through some guys.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_02]: You of course saw that quite a bit after the injury, but he will
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: was at times pre-injury.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that is somewhat somewhere that he needs to improve, but he can also naturally not necessarily freak out as much with better talent around him if the run block is better.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: There are more check-down options.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: And then we talked about Voidavoc being someone that is a really good pass catcher.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he gets his way into that game a little bit.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_02]: We know not evidence by the college football playoff, but Xavier Robinson has the ability to catch balls, maybe not against Alabama and the playoff, but that's here and we're there.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_02]: More options like that, better production from the tight ends, better running game.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be less of these decisions.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: at the last minute for material to throw an ill-advised ball to make a play that he doesn't have to make.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: Just getting some of those chunks with better talent around him, I think we'll avoid some of those situations.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_03]: but also a great support from that Oakland defense, which despite losing some key pieces to the league, projects me really good again, Brady, two years ago, I guess now, you're gonna win it.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_03]: In Atlanta at SC Media Day, Arves and Thomas was asked, hey, who's the next guy?
- 35:38[SPEAKER_03]: Who's the breakout guy?
- 35:39[SPEAKER_03]: He said, Taylor, why?
- 35:40[SPEAKER_03]: He was right.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: Taylor Wines in that same spot.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: This go around.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_03]: Taylor Wine kind of asked something similar.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that a lot of people probably around here, if from what we covered and stuff like that, if someone else coming to ask Taylor Wine, who you think the next breakout guy is, I think a lot of us might have expected Danny Aquay, and not that he was like low on Danny Aquay.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_03]: I just think with the foot injury,
- 36:02[SPEAKER_03]: PJ has kind of been forgotten about in the spring, just because he wasn't out there.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_03]: So when it's like, hey, who looked good today, PJ can't come up with his out there, what would I mean if if Oklahoma is getting not just the the kind of a season you're expecting for Danny and Koya based off talking to it throughout the spring, but if PJ guy that now has an extra year of eligibility, he's a true senior, if that's someone that could come in and truly pick up where he left off a little bit in November, where he was getting 30 snaps again, once our
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and again, upset I wasn't able to get my question to Brent, because I was also going to mention PJ out of our way who also missed spring as you mentioned, because that would have been great to say in which whatever he would have said about PJ's injury status with what Taylor wine eventually said about an hour or so later.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I would, I would caveat this with, uh, and Taylor's mentioned this before.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: Him and PJ are roommates, so they're very close.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, as roommates can be, and I, I'm not going to say that that's clouding his judgment of PJ out of Broadway because like how he just, how he chose to really double down his, um, his hype of PJ out of Broadway really spoke to me, um,
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: I had to jump on the franchise after Brent in the players had their breakout sessions to help interview all three players and Roger Denny.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I got to ask here to wind basically that same question again.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: And he had mentioned that PJs like mindset and his goals have transformed.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was his exact quote.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, that just sounds like, oh, has the light bulb come off.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: Now, compared to Danny Equay, just how I was talking about how of the guys on the offensive line, who would you want ideally to be your like alpha leader?
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: I want Eddie Pierlewi.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: He looks like he's got the right amount of nasty, right amount of crazy to his to his game.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: I want that guy.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: of Danny Aquay and PJ out of barway.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: If either one of them was able to go super say in this season, who would you want it to be PJ?
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: That dude is a freak.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: He is awesome looking.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like if the light bulb comes on for him, I mean, watch out.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like he has that potential.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's had that potential since he was 17, 18 years old.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, he was just also very raw.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: And it's taken him some time to truly harness that potential.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I think how he ended last season.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: And you never want to say that player's getting hurt is a blessing in disguise.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: When Armacing goes down, and PJ has to step up his level, his level play and his opportunities, he did make the most of them.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't play flashy, and I would have been upset if he had been just a flashy.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: He made winning play after winning play.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: He set the edge.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_01]: He brought guys down when he had them wrapped up.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: He brought them backwards.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: He did not get dragged for a yard or two.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like he showcased that I can do the little things.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: I can do the bare minimum.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: Can you build off of that?
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Taylor wine is correct about essentially the light bulb has come on for him.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, watch out.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that is a great pairing of Taylor wine and a fully realized, to some extent, PJ at a barway.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's a great pair of edge pressures.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: And again, no doubt, Danny Equia, because we were all there for this ring game.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: he's a due to and I don't think that there's been a question of the light bulb coming on for him.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's relatively been aware of how to play, how to utilize his skill sets.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, OU has a, for coming into the season, losing an armace in Thomas and only really returning a, and one name that people know in Taylor wine, they're fairly okay with what they have.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're fairly excited with what they have and they should be.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: As Brett would say, it feels like in a clay break out, it would be coming like right on time.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_03]: He knows a wallow inside outside.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see what that has.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's asked about the interior of the defensive line.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_03]: If you were with a saucepring, Nigel Smith, Bishop Thomas, trackwells, those guys there, looking too.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_03]: So that was kind of as it was in the spring, Brady, no postpring portal.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_03]: So not a lot of new names.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_03]: This is the new name, but I want to hire him he officially being back in the full.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_03]: Did kind of maybe alter ritual plans for Cole Sullivan?
- 40:00[SPEAKER_03]: I know Britt talked a little bit about utilizing Sullivan and Heineke and Kip Lewis.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_03]: It seems like there is no streps in that linebacker room about getting the most at all of those guys.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, Jim naggy or Brent, who ever one of them mentioned it under oath during own hi-nequies and junction hearing that they want to play all three of them.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, you can't lie in court when you're under oath, so we are expecting all three of them to be on the field at some point.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was always kind of a part of the plan because there's no doubt Cole Sullivan is not only talented, but he comes from a great pedigree of
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: playing defense and starting for the Wolverines at Michigan playing at a high level.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that guy can play in a Brent Middle's defense and there's still a lot of discussion whether or not an offseason is long enough for a player to learn.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_01]: Brent Middle's is playbook.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was a handful of players talked about that during the spring.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of the transfers and incoming players said, yeah, playbook is pretty hard to learn.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to take a while, but I think we're all expecting Cole Sullivan to pick it up by the time football.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: begins in September, but regardless of that, the thing that really surprised me and I wrote about this as well in Senators on S.I.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: was how Cole has become a leader in the locker room, and it's not just performative.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's not just like, this is what leaders do, so I'm going to do that.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: It is like come off very well apparently with his teammates and Kip Lewis and
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: are like, yeah, yeah, big dog, let's do this thing.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: So that's a great sign, not only for the short-term future, but for the long-term future, because this time next year, Owen Heinecky Kip Lewis will more than likely be gone.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how the fifth year rules are going to work for Kip, but Owen is out of eligibility after this season.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: So you want Cole Sullivan to really hit the ground running, and he already is.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, from a physical standpoint, no one's questioning it.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: But from the mental and the emotional aspect, I mean, that's that's great to hear that a transfer who's only been on campus for a handful of months is taking that accountability of I was a leader at Michigan.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: I need to be a leader here if we're going to win a lot of games and play at a high level.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: So that that was great news to hear if you're a know you fan no doubt, especially with
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: This equipment will steam.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: The defense is always going to be the best unit on the field in this program.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: Ideally, you want the offense to get up there as well, and they have a very good chance to make a gigantic leap this year, but it's going to be a defensive program when Britain is in charge.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: And when you've got dudes that have been in the program for a few years or for a few minutes, taking that onus, being accountable like that, that is a great sign of a great culture.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_03]: Hit is a red shirt senior.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_03]: So this is the last ride for Kip.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, true senior.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_03]: That's why he'll get the extra year if he.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_03]: So once it course anything from Brett Vittal is talking about his defense, just because I think a lot of the questions were surrounding the offense and the run game and it's kind of he set that agenda.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_03]: But anything else kind of from the defense catch all that caught your eye before we went to a BB just at large.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought it was notable just hearing him talk about the breakouts of Taylor wine and David Stone last year talking about he knew what he had in our Mason Thomas, Grace and Holtton, some of those guys on the defensive line who were stars and now of course have their opportunities at the next level, but seeing that David Stone, some people were writing him off as a bust, former five star guy, he's just one of the best, most disruptive defensive tackles in the SEC last year, Taylor wine,
- 43:28[SPEAKER_02]: didn't have much experience at all.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: People constantly taught us that he's going to be really good.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to be really good.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to be this that maybe maybe some of us might.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: he certainly proved that leading the team in tackles for loss and sacks just hearing him talk about those breakouts.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_02]: So of course those guys, Jayden Jackson, widely expected to be big contributors this year, but he also doesn't know who might be from that backup group that has a similar breakout this year, whether that's Trent Wilson, Nigel Smith, Bishop Thomas, we've heard tons of good things about all three of those guys.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: Kenny owes a wallow coming in from UTSA,
- 44:09[SPEAKER_02]: on the inside, and then of course, I don't know if you'd call PJ or Koye Breakouts, both of them have shown their flashes at OU, but guys that probably will see bigger roles.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: It sounds like he's really excited about that.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: The foundation they've built with stone, Jackson, wine, and then having a bunch of guys that whether they get a true breakout or they're more just valuable backups, Venable seems really excited about what they have up front.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_03]: feels like this defense is kind of the blueprint that burnt laid out in his area through press conference slash that first spring kind of fully realized it's it's almost all homegrown guys if you look at the projected 2D if you include Reggie powers instead of co-solving it's 10 guys that were signed at a high school local home and then own high and key who is only actually played football at Oklahoma with some paper papered over band days of Sullivan which will be a big debt piece you look at some of the
- 45:02[SPEAKER_03]: Second and third wave corners like efficient Thomas feels like that that's exactly what they want That's what they want to be on offense So John I'm gonna come to you here.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_03]: This is a little bit of the your pet project.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_03]: That's what it does it matter But the BV performance just at large.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_03]: You really have a care either way I'm like CFB expansion.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_03]: I do think that in him being like hey I don't really care the eight game of the nine game schedule, but I kind of like the challenge of a nine game schedule That's the BV way of saying like by the pick one.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_03]: I don't really mind the nine game schedule at all
- 45:32[SPEAKER_03]: It feels like we have gotten a little bit more, uh, I don't know what a fully Realize CEO, Brett Vittables looks like, but it definitely seems just more Policy on like, which if that's what you want at your media day, then that's kind of what you got It felt like from BB, at least from foreign.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: He did turn down the opportunity to answer a couple of questions about the big picture of college football and conference and college football playoff and whatnot.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_00]: He said, hey, nobody's pulling the coaches when it comes to this kind of thing.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: They lead that to the athletic directors and the presidents, right?
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: But he is certainly...
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: Brett now listen what he was defensive coordinator when he was a co-defensive coordinator under Mike when he was just basically the linebacker's coach and helping call signals on game days He projected extreme confidence.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking is like a 33-year-old assistant coach, right?
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, as a 50-year-old head coach, he's still projecting the exact same confidence.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: People say when you say who is Brent Vanillables, what characteristics stand out to you, by Brent.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: The one that almost everybody goes back to is the one that I just mentioned.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_00]: The dude does not change.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: He is as constant as the North Star man.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: He is the guy.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: that you know every time he walks in the room he's going to have that rapport he's going to have that back and forth he's going to have that smile on his face he's going to project confidence now imagine being a 19-year-old college football player and that guy walks in the room that's your head coach so he comes off that college football playoff appearance last year and that
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: I called November run, you know, 4 and 0 down the stretch to get to the playoff.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: He comes off of that with a lot of confidence.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'd detect maybe just a little bit more confidence this year.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I think he's projecting just a little bit more than he has in his first three or four years.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think it surely has to help, too, that I know he talks about.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_03]: He feels the pressure every day, whether he's labeled a hot seat guy or if he's coming off a tinland season, but I do think it helps to have a little bit more, I don't know, faith and incarceration based, another year of, you've actually worked with Jim Nagy for a whole year and know what this thing's gonna look like.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_03]: And I do think that every coach that it was included is loving
- 47:59[SPEAKER_03]: not having that post-spring portal that I think everyone in some four fascists talked about.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_03]: And Jim now you've done but this it actually feels like a team because you're not worried about walking on the next shows that everybody and when Oklahoma needed to develop depth what are perfect offseason to not have a post-spring portal for Oklahoma.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_02]: 100% I think that was a pretty well received change across the board just as far as, okay, this guy doesn't get enough reps in the spring, therefore he's leaving now.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think that is huge in getting depth that now these players barring some sort of really, really weird circumstance have to stick through it for at least through the fall.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's big for trying to build as much as you can out of this player and if the fall comes around,
- 48:40[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have the buy and they're not getting the playing time for whatever reason.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, then they can depart, find a quote unquote green or pasture.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that is huge.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, the results very last year as far as spring pickups went with.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_02]: Tates and they'll be the best of the best in the kicking realm.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_02]: Jayden not being a big time target did absolutely nothing with the sooners.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, there's...
- 49:01[SPEAKER_02]: There are some ways you could have built on your roster from the spring, but I think you can do just about all of that from the winter portal window that they have this here.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I think in the grand scheme of things having now, John, it's here coming into a second year, been our buckle coming into a second year.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_02]: As you mentioned, Jim Nagy being here for one more year, there's just a lot more continuity and I think not having that portal really just helps with that too.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_03]: It would not be a 2026 check in with anything if we didn't get a general vibe check, Brady.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_03]: When you have a four day SEC media day event, you have different people that are coming and going for instance, like, outless you in Texas, they're not there till Thursday, so maybe a big chunk of the yellow shoe in Texas will be to contingent, not down to until.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_03]: So that makes it a little bit, I don't know, harder or not for Oklahoma to be like the first team up in SEC media day and everything like that.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_03]: But just, uh, what was the general vibe around like people intrigued by preventables Oklahoma?
- 50:00[SPEAKER_03]: Was this just a, oh, we'll sit here because you're right after Greg say, Kim, we're already here.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_03]: How was, uh,
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: How were the sooners received?
- 50:07[SPEAKER_03]: So always remember, back to the last big 12 media day, our franchise kit was set up next to one of the local provostations, and it was an offensive line and you could tell, he was a former offensive line for BYU, who I don't know his name, but it sounded like he had been in provo all year long.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_03]: And he was looking at, and he's like, you see all those tri-pods by Oklahoma.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: That's not gonna happen in the FCC.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_03]: They'd be like, brand about it.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, sir, those are the 15 tri-pods from Oklahoma local media.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_03]: Like those tri-pods go up, though, you everywhere.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_03]: They're never not gonna be the star of the show, whenever they rock, go out.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: But you're three OU in the SEC, and how's everyone receiving the sooner?
- 50:45[SPEAKER_03]: Still.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, with respect to this individual, if BYU had a quarter back, and I think they did last year have 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, however, John Stattline was, and they went to Big 12 Media Day the next season.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that they're going to have, like, I had to fight for room to talk to John.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's just some of that is just, your QB wanted at a place like the University of Oklahoma.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you're a rock star, even before you've,
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: shown anything.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_01]: Jackson Arnold enjoyed that for five minutes.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: Dylan Gabriel experienced that his first year at Oklahoma.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like it is something it is a burden.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's a gift and a curse to a lot of people.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: But it is what it is.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's just overall in terms of like how everyone kind of views Oklahoma.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think, oh, you and Brent have kind of put to bed the silly casual, like, kiddo cloma compete in the SEC, yeah, that's the University of Oklahoma.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like, are they going to win every conference championship?
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they did in the Big 12, probably not, but that was a part of the deal.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you join a tougher conference, knowing that, yeah, those minor goals, like those first steps to a national championship aren't going to be as frequent.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_01]: But the good news is,
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: you don't necessarily need to win your conference anymore to get to the stage to play for and win possibly a national championship.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_01]: So the landscape's changed.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: OU fans still want to see them win the SEC of course, but that's not the ultimate goal anymore.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_01]: But even still, OU's proven that they can compete in the SEC just by virtue of last season.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: They have the talent.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think what a lot of people kind of see, though, is we recognize that you're a good team for inventables in Oklahoma.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: We recognize that.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: If not, like potentially a great team.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_01]: Boy, that schedule is hard, though.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: At Michigan, at Georgia, Texas, and the cotton bull, and if Texas beats Ohio State, OU will likely play two top five opponents in short duration, you know, with
- 52:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not if I'm not mistaken with that be the first time since red or red October that they've played two top five, if not top three opponents back to back or in short duration of each other like it's been a long time since he was done something yeah I want to say seven maybe when they played well I would I might be thinking of the bowl game where there was a month between the big 12 championship and the bowl game but yeah I think it has happened more recently than that but that's a great that's a great observation.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, if Texas be too high of state, they do have a tough road game at Tennessee, but I don't know if you guys caught this Josh I pull mention that they don't know who their QB1 is, just yet.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it could be any one of us if Josh I pull picks us to be his quarterback, we're probably going to put up some numbers because Josh I pull's a proven quarterback coach and a proven offensive mind, but that's probably not a very good spot to be in if you're Tennessee, but still it's a tough road game for Texas.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: It happens the same week.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone just kind of views OU as like we have no doubt that you're a good team, but you guys could have two potentially three losses before you get into October and you would have every opportunity to write the wrongs because the good thing about having a difficult schedule is you have opportunity after opportunity after opportunity to make up for it.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_01]: But as we've seen in the expanded college football playoff era, you get three losses you're probably out.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: So everyone agrees.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: You're a good team.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's just good teams can lose a few games with that schedule.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if Georgia had a schedule like that, I'm sure people would be like Georgia's really good.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: A national tag contender.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be tough for them to go through that schedule without a loss or two.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be very tough for them.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that that's just kind of the general vibe.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's not you, it's your schedule Oklahoma.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we're more concerned with.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_00]: Brady, there's, there's been a lot of hype.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think following, you, what we're, when this, when we get done recording this, when this podcast post will be one, three quarters of the way through SEC media days.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: But there's been a lot of hype coming out of the first couple days for Oklahoma.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: People who have podcasts, people who have influence on social media, for instance, are coming out saying, I'm pretty leaning toward Oklahoma and here's why I like Oklahoma to make a run and here's why I got Oklahoma in my top five and here's why based on day one at SEC meeting today.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_00]: Not just day one, they were the first ones out of the box, so is that something there's a little bit of extra
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: The hype that wouldn't normally be there like if Texas had gone first and Oklahoma doesn't go until Thursday would that would that hype be aiming toward Texas just because Texas has been a podium and Steve's our Keasian had a lot of talking points.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so, because everything that concerns Texas people have had their understanding since the portal, like, oh my god, they got Cam Coleman, Relief Brown, Hollywood smothers, like, they got all these dudes plus, they already have Ryan Weingode, Archmanting, won't probably the best left tackle in the game, believe Gooseby is his last name, they've got, they are set on offense at least.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's some question marks with, like,
- 55:47[SPEAKER_01]: In the Genzi era, is that going to work?
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: They did lose a lot of defensive line talent.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: They did not necessarily replenish.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll see.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're talented.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_01]: They recruited well.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: So they could very well have like dudes right behind them.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_01]: That could put perform well at a high level this season.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: But we had to wait to find out.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_01]: With Oklahoma.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, going back to what you said, John, like it's very easy to understand why a recruit will meet Brent Vennables in their home and just say, I want to play for that guy.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's Brent Vennables has been, and I, I'm not throwing Barry tremolo into the bus because he'd said this like in other media appearances about Brent Vennables, but heading into the 2025 season.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_01]: I had Brent on my my podcast through the keyhole, or I had a Barry, excuse me, on my podcast.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: and we talked about preventables and Barry said he's a bad communicator.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: Not that he fails at communicating his message to you, but he just is long-winded and talks too long.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like anytime you watch those shows that OU puts out on YouTube,
- 56:46[SPEAKER_01]: and Brits talking at the podium in their team meeting room.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's got that hourglass on the podium.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_01]: And it's probably kind of tongue-in-cheek, but it's also like pragmatic.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like you do talk for a long time.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_01]: We need you to like wrap this up.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: And we know this guy's Carson Ryan, you know this.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_01]: During Springball, we heard like the team erupt in celebration when we were waiting to go talk to them.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_01]: We couldn't see why.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: We all assume that some walk on probably got a scholarship.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it sounded like.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_01]: then we asked one of the SID is like what was that out?
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: And apparently Danny Aquay or somebody hit a field goal and that allowed the team to just go straight to the locker room and not have to hear Brett Minimal's talk.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: So everyone was like yeah we get to go we get to go home early.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: Brit has like grown-up a lot in terms of how he conducts himself with the media.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's still pretty long-winded, but who cares?
- 57:35[SPEAKER_01]: He seems to have had an ability to streamline his messaging, which is going to come off very well.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_01]: So with everything that concerns like Oklahoma and how they're viewed, it's very easy to see why like when Brit talks, it's very easy to say like, I believe him.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_01]: I want to believe that guy.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see that guy succeed because his attitude is personality is infectious.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_00]: from a covering SCC Media Day perspective.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of energy, a lot of focus, a lot of vibe that goes on between the interviews, like when you're, there'll be somebody moving from one interview to room to another, and there's a crowd of reporters that follow them, trying to get a soundbite or a B-roll or whatever.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_00]: But again, day one, the first team out of the box, Oklahoma.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_00]: Is that part of this hype that went around Oklahoma or did you see something behind the scenes where people are saying hey let's get Oh you hey we got to get something from oh you hey oh you's gonna be really good this year.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_00]: What kind of vibe did you pick up that way?
- 58:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean I think everyone's slowly kind of like
- 58:43[SPEAKER_01]: they kind of divorce themselves from their casual understanding that they've had all offseason of like, yeah, oh, you've got talent.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: That offense was putrid at times last year and downright boring, uh, which probably affected a lot of their ranking last season even when they were going undefeated in November.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: No doubt the college of bulk playoff committee had mentioned that a few times like, yeah, the offense just is a struggle bus.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_01]: And that has affected how a lot of
- 59:09[SPEAKER_01]: Once you hear Brent talk, once you see job material, like take accountability, once you see Taylor wine and Eddie Pierre Louis and how big and tall and strong and awesome they are, you begin to start really asking yourself like, hey, George is great.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're a legit title contender.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_01]: We think Texas is, but they've been kind of like disappointing, considering their highs, their high expectation during the Sark region era, despite the success that they've had.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then after that, you're like,
- 59:39[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Trinidad Shameless is great, but is Pete Golding, truly is good as he showed in the playoff, or was that just like good vibes and moments that they carried over once laying Kiffin left?
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like, is he going to be able to prove that he's a good head coach?
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: Because he even still almost lost a lot of talent, and it may not matter even though Trinidad Shameless probably is the best quarterback in the country.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_01]: It might not be enough.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then you throw like Alabama in that conversation as well.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_01]: And they've got a brand new quarterback in their own right.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_01]: They lost some talent as well, all offensive and defensive line.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then Oklahoma is right there.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_01]: And they don't have questions on the offensive or the defensive line.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have questions on defense really other than like what Brent had talked about the middle part of the roster.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_01]: but that's something for us sickos like the like the fans and the media that cover this team like those are questions that we have for them like SEC journalists, national journalists, they're not concerned with that right now.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: So you start to really put OU higher and higher on your list as a result and think, yeah, they're schedules tough, but man, they should be Michigan.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_01]: And they are good enough to split Georgia in Texas.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know which game or not going to pick which game they would do that in, but I could see them doing that and having one loss going into the meat of their schedule in October.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_01]: And if that be the case, then they're cooking with Greece.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_01]: They're in prime position to get back to the college of all playoff.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I think people are just starting to really wake up to the fact that OU is good.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_01]: They've got talent.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_01]: They have questions, but so does basically every team in this conference other than two uh, Georgia and Texas.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_01]: And when you start to kind of like pick apart other teams, oh, you just naturally kind of rises up that list and people wanted to talk to them more.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_01]: People wanted to have them on their shows.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, Jim naggy was an unofficial member of SEC Media Day for Oklahoma and he went to about every single booth to talk about his job about Oklahoma.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, people are just,
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I think kind of waking up to the fact that OU is a force to be reckoned with.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_01]: Are they the force not yet, but they are a force to be reckoned with in this conference?
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_03]: First, anything else that you're able to kind of discern or glean is as we were looking on from a far to the goings on in Tampa?
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought it was cool to just hear Taylor Wein and John Matthier's perspective about the baseball team winning the national championship, both of those guys highlighted how unpredictable it was, zero buzz around that team going into the NCAA tournament, no one thought that they'd do that us included, and I think it was cool to hear both of them talk about the lessons they learned from that, just how resilient they were taking down Georgia, Georgia Tech, BAM all these great teams on their way to winning the national championship.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_02]: And also, I know Taylor Wein highlighted this, that it really doesn't matter whether the expectations are high, low, that's noise that needs to be blocked out.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_02]: You can tell that's something that Skip Johnson and his crew did in the last month of the season, and what's the result, a national title, not saying that that will be the end result this year, but I think there is a lot to pick up, and I think it's really cool to hear from you.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_02]: wine and been material who was actually boots on the ground in Omaha at those championship series games against UNC hearing from him about his experience that he had, what he learned, I thought that was really neat.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_03]: And if you're looking for something in the water, all you baseball pretty big drought that was snapped by one of that national title, Arsenal who in the Premier League had a 20 year drought, they were built on sometimes accused boring offense, but the unquestioned best defense of the division, a spine of that group, they became an endowed force.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_03]: The New York Nix, if the New York Nix can win a title in the NBA, why can't Oklahoma maybe snap a streak since 2000.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe something to aspire to as far,
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_03]: as that goes.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_03]: We are hurling toward fall camp, and we regroup next week.

- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of crazy to think that we're already here.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_03]: But when you see the little exact ball team, rip to whatever help happen in Tulsa.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_03]: And you see like really baseball.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_03]: That's how we know we get to Hall of Fame game.
