- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of Not Another Football Podcast with myself,
- 0:07Speaker 1: Simon Domley and Jackie McNamara, and we're delighted to have
- 0:11Speaker 1: our next guest, start off screen, start of stage, start
- 0:15Speaker 1: off comedy, Jonathan Watson.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Thanks for having me boys A yeah, looking good, looking
- 0:22Speaker 2: forward to us.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I was looking at your CV last night, different things
- 0:26Speaker 1: on it. What is the most recognized us when people
- 0:29Speaker 1: come up to you, what you most know?
- 0:32Speaker 2: The funny thing is depending on what you do at
- 0:35Speaker 2: the time. You know, there was a well number of
- 0:38Speaker 2: years ago it was city lights, a thing that used
- 0:40Speaker 2: to do. That's forty years ago. Yeah, so you listened
- 0:45Speaker 2: phases of that, and of course from lying excuse I suppose,
- 0:49Speaker 2: but most recently because I'm involved with two doors down,
- 0:53Speaker 2: that's the thing that they sort of that's into Yeah.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it was just as I said, we were
- 1:00Speaker 1: looking at it last night. Obviously from our point of view,
- 1:04Speaker 1: a certain vintage only excuses when it comes to mind.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I remember forty years ago it was edible, but it
- 1:11Speaker 1: was like the kind of I was thinking about it.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It was a staple diet of hog many on it.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Before everybody went out. You would sit and watch all
- 1:18Speaker 1: the shows I see who was going to did through,
- 1:22Speaker 1: who was going to get the past trip this year,
- 1:24Speaker 1: whose time it was, and then you would be geting out.
- 1:26Speaker 1: So that was always marking the memories of that. Yeah, sure,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I think that was only good.
- 1:30Speaker 3: But about how many we were playing because we were
- 1:33Speaker 3: we will always be playing Rangers in the s the
- 1:35Speaker 3: next day, so we would be focusing into that and
- 1:38Speaker 3: then you know, go to sleep after the bells senior
- 1:41Speaker 3: year and go to sleep. That was a build up
- 1:43Speaker 3: for us, was too. And see who you were going
- 1:45Speaker 3: to do to get slaughter.
- 1:49Speaker 2: It was class. We did it for so many years.
- 1:53Speaker 2: But I get great memories of working in that program.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It was it was. It was brilliant and we were
- 1:58Speaker 2: you know, some of the stuff is pretty near the bone,
- 2:01Speaker 2: but we got away with I think mostly because people
- 2:06Speaker 2: knew were fans of the game. Yeah. Philip Duffer who
- 2:10Speaker 2: produces it and writes to the majority of it. Philip
- 2:15Speaker 2: a big Celtic fan. I was a Rangeous fan, and
- 2:17Speaker 2: so there was a good balance. Tony's roper was that
- 2:20Speaker 2: a big Celtic fan. But the laughs we used to
- 2:24Speaker 2: have great for.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You get any of the boys digging up for it
- 2:27Speaker 1: was on anybody that took it the wrong way.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Well, there was there was one instance when it was
- 2:30Speaker 2: a wee bit touch and go. I thought, well, when
- 2:34Speaker 2: Tony was doing it, he did an impersonation of Gordon McQueen,
- 2:39Speaker 2: so ithing no longer with us. But it was a
- 2:42Speaker 2: bit a bit harsh and Gordon so we had a
- 2:46Speaker 2: bit of feedback that was he too happy. The only
- 2:50Speaker 2: time that that I got a sort of kind of
- 2:54Speaker 2: negative feedback was years ago. Years ago. I I came
- 3:00Speaker 2: home before I was my got home. Remember the we
- 3:04Speaker 2: answer machines with the WE button used to be with
- 3:06Speaker 2: your a metting. So I came home, this thing's beating away,
- 3:09Speaker 2: put it on and it's Alex Ferguson. He was John
- 3:17Speaker 2: maybe calling you. I got your number off water one
- 3:20Speaker 2: of who do a favor for me, and it was
- 3:22Speaker 2: he was involved with Harmony Row Boys Club and he
- 3:27Speaker 2: had organized a big fundraiser of Victoria's Nightclub, which I'm
- 3:32Speaker 2: sure you'll remember. And let's say about that the better.
- 3:38Speaker 2: So it's up Victoria's Nightclub and he wanted me to
- 3:41Speaker 2: do a wee bit long excuse and Philip very kindly
- 3:44Speaker 2: wrote this script for me about twenty twenty five minutes long,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and in it there was a guy about David Hay,
- 3:53Speaker 2: who was made as a Celtic at the time. And
- 3:56Speaker 2: I remember saying to Andy Cameron was sitting next to
- 3:58Speaker 2: me and I said, I said, and you see that
- 4:02Speaker 2: that joke there. Do you think that's okay? He went, oh,
- 4:05Speaker 2: I said, that's funny. He said, do that. In fact,
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's I do that. That's funny. That's funny, right, And
- 4:14Speaker 2: you know other either my new players are there, or
- 4:16Speaker 2: just sell it players or just players. And the guy
- 4:21Speaker 2: was Davy Hay was invited in the Chairman's room the
- 4:25Speaker 2: park Head, the cham's office at park Head, and the
- 4:27Speaker 2: CHAM said take a seat Davy No, No, on the
- 4:31Speaker 2: floor in the chair right. And dB was in the
- 4:35Speaker 2: audience and he was raging because there was a joke
- 4:39Speaker 2: about money in it, and seemingly he he'd lost a
- 4:45Speaker 2: bit of money in some venture which had been in
- 4:47Speaker 2: the papers and he was not happy and big that
- 4:55Speaker 2: the last well you're seeing the sad because I mentioned Jelly,
- 5:01Speaker 2: I'm partly with Tony Higgins and I remember saying it
- 5:04Speaker 2: twenty years ago, who's the hardest player you ever went?
- 5:07Speaker 2: Without missing? The beat went away? My cell assassin. So anyway,
- 5:12Speaker 2: ended up in Victoria's. There was a way getting down
- 5:15Speaker 2: into the main bit from the club. Roy ak And and
- 5:19Speaker 2: Bully Kirk would let that out, make one real, take
- 5:21Speaker 2: you down because he was so and the Big Roy's
- 5:27Speaker 2: advice was Tony fuck him. So I went down. And
- 5:34Speaker 2: so the next week, the next Sunday, it was the
- 5:39Speaker 2: I think it was the Sports Writers dinner and Davy
- 5:44Speaker 2: was there looking at maclate with white tux seedle and
- 5:48Speaker 2: I saw him and Philip Differ and I were guests
- 5:50Speaker 2: the BBC, and I said to Philip, I said, I'm
- 5:54Speaker 2: going to go and apologize them. Phillips said, don't you
- 5:58Speaker 2: bother said you sit down, don't move right. But I
- 6:01Speaker 2: went up and I said, day, I said, look, I'm
- 6:04Speaker 2: really sorry if you if you were an offended last week.
- 6:07Speaker 2: That's the last thing I do want to do. And
- 6:09Speaker 2: he was like, he was brilliant, he said, Jonathan, he said,
- 6:12Speaker 2: thanks so much for for apolgenizes. He said, you don't
- 6:15Speaker 2: it's fine, he said. He said, I'm just glad I
- 6:18Speaker 2: was there and I didn't hear it second hand. I
- 6:20Speaker 2: was like, okay, So he was absolutely fine of it.
- 6:24Speaker 2: That was the closest of our cave with them, the
- 6:26Speaker 2: sort of taking it badly.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I think I was again, I was thinking about it
- 6:30Speaker 1: last night, obviously been coming on. I think I made
- 6:34Speaker 1: an appearance at one point at the front of the Titanic.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I think it was me, obviously, when I'm playing at
- 6:41Speaker 1: Celtic as the Caprile. I think he's had made the
- 6:44Speaker 1: front of the Titanic taking.
- 6:47Speaker 2: You. Remember, Was it me doing you?
- 6:49Speaker 1: I can't remember, but it was it was.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I've got it in my head and it was that's
- 6:53Speaker 2: what that rings a bell that the thing is. Honestly, Simon,
- 6:56Speaker 2: there's so many sketches and people come up and they
- 6:59Speaker 2: quote your stuff. I can't remember saying that.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I remember obviously because it was myself, and I get
- 7:04Speaker 1: the puss up took me for it. But I was
- 7:05Speaker 1: thinking about it because obviously at that point with the
- 7:08Speaker 1: blonde hair and DiCaprio. Fast forward twenty years later, but
- 7:12Speaker 1: Dunde United, and I've come in one morning to the
- 7:14Speaker 1: staff office, the professional staff office, and they've got a
- 7:18Speaker 1: picture up of you know, the the actor Peter Drinklige.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, a Game of Thrones.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So I've cut about this kind of stripey Tammy in
- 7:26Speaker 1: the training They've found Peter Dinklin absolutely double. So that
- 7:30Speaker 1: was up at the wall with my desk when I
- 7:32Speaker 1: walked in. So I went from DiCaprio, a fine actor.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Two good actors?
- 7:44Speaker 1: Drinkley, did you ever do it? Did you manage to
- 7:46Speaker 1: get add that?
- 7:47Speaker 3: My favorite has always got to be a Maca. I'd
- 7:51Speaker 3: actually seen that before I actually met him. I met
- 7:55Speaker 3: him the first time the PFA do and he he
- 8:00Speaker 3: was in the toilet and said hello me and on
- 8:02Speaker 3: I'm just kind of looking up.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Spoke to him before or just seen him.
- 8:08Speaker 3: And then your character and I think it was incredible.
- 8:13Speaker 2: They won the garage with the birds. That's my favorite
- 8:17Speaker 2: pump to pump Too. And you know what actually I did,
- 8:21Speaker 2: I'll tell you Thomas Thies, but I did. I did
- 8:25Speaker 2: Frank's podcast a while back and he said to me,
- 8:30Speaker 2: he said, he said, you know what he said. I
- 8:32Speaker 2: was at a do one night and the father of
- 8:36Speaker 2: one of the girls it's two lovely girls, it's extras
- 8:41Speaker 2: in it. And the father of one that came up
- 8:44Speaker 2: with went you know that sketch, the pump too sketch,
- 8:48Speaker 2: and Frank was the goes He said that was my daughter,
- 8:56Speaker 2: and Frank's going, oh right, okay, it went no, that
- 8:59Speaker 2: was my he was speaking to it's a Frank had
- 9:02Speaker 2: done the sketch right and he was raising one. But
- 9:07Speaker 2: they always remember when we when we started doing him.
- 9:11Speaker 2: The one of the reasons we started doing there was
- 9:14Speaker 2: a wee guy at work in the approps the partment
- 9:16Speaker 2: of the BBC, and he was a mad Celtic fan,
- 9:18Speaker 2: Andy Hunton, great week guy, and he said to me
- 9:22Speaker 2: and Philip one Monday morning that he'd been in Bird's
- 9:25Speaker 2: Bar in the East end of Glasgow about eleven o'clock
- 9:29Speaker 2: on the Sunday morning. And because Frank's always denied saying
- 9:33Speaker 2: where's the box, He's always denied it. So we were
- 9:39Speaker 2: told me about that about who it came about, and
- 9:41Speaker 2: I said, Andy Hunton came up to us on the
- 9:43Speaker 2: Monday morning the BBC and said to me and fully
- 9:46Speaker 2: see another, guess what i'm yesterday? He said, I was
- 9:48Speaker 2: in Beer's Bar, just sitting on the back reading my
- 9:50Speaker 2: paper and then he's drink and McAvennie comes into the
- 9:55Speaker 2: bar and he looked about it and he went where's
- 9:59Speaker 2: the bos to the barn person and they went I
- 10:02Speaker 2: don't know, Frank, so I told this story and he went,
- 10:08Speaker 2: I know what that was, and Stephen I seemingly he
- 10:12Speaker 2: and his brother bought the franchise of a restaurant chain,
- 10:18Speaker 2: which was it was something like School Down remember that.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I know the girls were done up in me Jim
- 10:24Speaker 2: Slips and all that, doing the seven. So that Sunday morning
- 10:30Speaker 2: there were additioning girls to work in their restaurant, and
- 10:35Speaker 2: Frank thought it was in Beard's Bar, and he walked
- 10:37Speaker 2: into Beard's Bark and he went and they were across
- 10:41Speaker 2: the other, a pub across the road.
- 10:43Speaker 1: So that was that was a line.
- 10:45Speaker 2: That was the line. I Frank said that that's that's
- 10:51Speaker 2: when we used to do the live shows. You kept
- 10:54Speaker 2: that to the n you kind of top that that
- 10:56Speaker 2: was the best one to do. And we used to
- 10:58Speaker 2: always have His entrance music would be Cashmere by Led Zeppelin,
- 11:04Speaker 2: the Puff Daddy version, and I used to used to
- 11:07Speaker 2: be great fun. Yeah, some player as well, he was,
- 11:12Speaker 2: wasn't it was?
- 11:13Speaker 1: It was on his podcasts recently as well. So obviously
- 11:17Speaker 1: take you back. So you went through was it drama
- 11:19Speaker 1: school and stuff? Was was it acting that he wanted
- 11:21Speaker 1: to do? It was the comedy party down. Did it
- 11:24Speaker 1: all in fold here?
- 11:25Speaker 2: Well? It was say, and he go back to I
- 11:28Speaker 2: was about ten years old actually, because my dad came
- 11:31Speaker 2: in one day. We we lived in St. Georgia's cross through,
- 11:36Speaker 2: very horrowd and came on one day and somebody that
- 11:39Speaker 2: work must have mentioned this them. He said, look, there's
- 11:41Speaker 2: a junior course at the Roskirtish academ and Music and drama.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Do you want to give it a go? And I'd
- 11:47Speaker 2: be about ten at the time, and and I said yeah,
- 11:50Speaker 2: and this is this is years before they did drama
- 11:53Speaker 2: and then that drama school and after It's about a
- 11:58Speaker 2: bud usual emmy, I gave a quack. I was an
- 12:02Speaker 2: only child, and I think, you know, my mum and
- 12:05Speaker 2: dad were always going to the fact, you know, you
- 12:07Speaker 2: spend a lot of time in the company of kids,
- 12:09Speaker 2: because if you're an only children, you do spend a
- 12:11Speaker 2: lot of time in the company of adults, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 2: So I think it was a thing to try and
- 12:16Speaker 2: make sure that wasn't the case. So I went along
- 12:18Speaker 2: to it and I loved it. I really enjoyed it.
- 12:22Speaker 2: And at that time, if the BBC were casting anything,
- 12:26Speaker 2: or any production company were casting anything, they were coming
- 12:28Speaker 2: to Saturday Morning something the back and observe and if
- 12:31Speaker 2: they thought you might be suitable, they'd actually read for
- 12:34Speaker 2: the part. So very quickly I wasn't there all that long.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I started getting TV offers and I did a lot
- 12:44Speaker 2: of stuff when I was a kid between the age
- 12:47Speaker 2: of about eleven twelve till my voice broke and then
- 12:52Speaker 2: I can bite it a little bit more so my
- 12:56Speaker 2: teenage years. I did a lot of things like Sutherland's
- 12:59Speaker 2: law daughter, Philly's casebook, Wednesday Play what with Alan Parker
- 13:05Speaker 2: the film maker, and a commercial, big Linden commercial, stuff
- 13:09Speaker 2: like that. But funnily enough, I had no intention of
- 13:12Speaker 2: pursuing that as a career. Yeah, and then the left school,
- 13:17Speaker 2: don't really knowing what was going to do, and i'd
- 13:21Speaker 2: worked up with my dad had started doing it as
- 13:23Speaker 2: a commercial artist graphic artist that going into advertising, and
- 13:28Speaker 2: I worked up in his office for a while. In
- 13:30Speaker 2: one of his pals who was in charge one of
- 13:31Speaker 2: the department, said look, we'll train it to work in advertising.
- 13:37Speaker 2: So I ended up doing a course prepping me for
- 13:39Speaker 2: that and the knowledge that I had a job at
- 13:42Speaker 2: the end of it, and then halfway through the BBC
- 13:46Speaker 2: phoned up and said, we want to do you. We
- 13:48Speaker 2: went off of your partner, this play and the course
- 13:52Speaker 2: that I was doing the College of Commerce. They wouldn't
- 13:55Speaker 2: give me the time off needed, about two weeks off
- 13:58Speaker 2: and my dad said to me, he said, want to
- 14:00Speaker 2: do I went, I'd like to do the play. He
- 14:04Speaker 2: went to the play. So I dogged it for two Yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 2: being at that point i'd be about twenty nineteen twenty,
- 14:16Speaker 2: but I'd igges do the play. So I dogged it
- 14:19Speaker 2: for two weeks. When I finished it, I thought, no,
- 14:22Speaker 2: this is what I want to do, and I went
- 14:24Speaker 2: in the next day. College comments was quite near George Square,
- 14:28Speaker 2: as was the Drama Clause. I went and got in
- 14:31Speaker 2: the last editions and audition for that, got in and
- 14:36Speaker 2: did three years there, and then I got my equity
- 14:39Speaker 2: card from the Citizens Theater and Football connection there. Owen
- 14:45Speaker 2: Coyles mom Rosemary call she used to work and yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 2: i'd I'd agree. That was a great start for me.
- 14:53Speaker 1: That was serious parts. And then yeah, where did so
- 14:55Speaker 1: where did the comedy come?
- 14:57Speaker 2: So I was doing it, I was I'd be working
- 15:00Speaker 2: away for a bout Let me see about three years
- 15:05Speaker 2: working pretty steadily doing theater work and then in the
- 15:09Speaker 2: summer do a play for Today or something like that,
- 15:11Speaker 2: a lot of a drama. And then I did a
- 15:15Speaker 2: I think for what was the Scottish Theater Company, It
- 15:17Speaker 2: was like the National Theater Scotland Today. I did a
- 15:21Speaker 2: play with them, and one of the guys on that
- 15:24Speaker 2: was working with a comedy unit at the BBC. It
- 15:28Speaker 2: was Royan Bayin. He was doing Kick Up the Eighties laughing.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Nearly paid my license fee and a new program that
- 15:34Speaker 2: would start to called Naked Radio. And he mentioned me
- 15:38Speaker 2: to the bosses there, Colin Gilbert and Philip Differ, and
- 15:44Speaker 2: I went up to see them and I got offered
- 15:47Speaker 2: a part and a pilot that they're doing called city Lights.
- 15:52Speaker 2: And also they asked me to be part of the
- 15:56Speaker 2: team for Naked Radio. So that was Gregor Fisher, Tony Roper,
- 16:01Speaker 2: Elaine c. Smith, Yeah, me Andy Gray Well and that's
- 16:06Speaker 2: and then when that happened, I worked there more or
- 16:09Speaker 2: less constantly for about ten eleven years.
- 16:12Speaker 1: You know, this episode is sponsored by Rosie Mcguilds and
- 16:15Speaker 1: Cable Roig. We're going to be there at Celtic Supporters
- 16:18Speaker 1: Festival from June the fourth to the seventh myself, Jackie,
- 16:21Speaker 1: who else.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Peter Grant, Joe Miller, Alan Thompson and Tommy Johnson. And yeah,
- 16:30Speaker 3: the link is in a description.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Back to the episode said, yeah, so that was a
- 16:35Speaker 2: great that's a good start.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Amazing. Yeah, so obviously we touched on at the beginning.
- 16:43Speaker 1: They're a bit your Rangers supporting us sitting here us
- 16:48Speaker 1: two excelps obviously, Which are the early memories of that?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Then? Which first Rangers?
- 16:55Speaker 1: Rangers?
- 16:56Speaker 2: First time I saw Rangers? My dad, my dad wasn't
- 16:58Speaker 2: particularly teen football, even although his father who was for
- 17:02Speaker 2: lark Hall. So I'll give you an idea, but they
- 17:06Speaker 2: one they bought they the Mixed Days a little bit
- 17:09Speaker 2: before lark Hall. My dad knew the Mixed Days and
- 17:12Speaker 2: in fact my dad was at school with you. Remember
- 17:16Speaker 2: these guys, remember the guy that used to be the
- 17:20Speaker 2: kit man at Celtic Jim Steele. Well, my dad, my
- 17:26Speaker 2: dad was at school. I'm private school, so my dad
- 17:30Speaker 2: was that bothered before me and my palace were the
- 17:35Speaker 2: Rangers fan. So the first game he took me to
- 17:38Speaker 2: was Rangers against Slavia Sophia, the second leg of the
- 17:42Speaker 2: semi family of the copp Anders copt In sixty seven,
- 17:45Speaker 2: and so the year that the Celtic were playing out
- 17:47Speaker 2: of my Land Rangers, I think they drew nothing each
- 17:53Speaker 2: in Bulgaria and then they won one nothing. Willie Henderson
- 17:57Speaker 2: got aheader and but my dad took me along. So
- 18:00Speaker 2: we get the the subway face and Georges crossed Coland
- 18:03Speaker 2: Road and then when it was over Cockland Road.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I mean it was like mob.
- 18:08Speaker 2: No, it was absolutely mob. And my dad said to me,
- 18:11Speaker 2: we then walked down and says that was just as bad,
- 18:15Speaker 2: and he said, do you fancy me but I walk
- 18:17Speaker 2: Then I went, okay, that'd only be but ten or
- 18:21Speaker 2: something like that. And the thing I remember most about
- 18:24Speaker 2: it was we ended up walking walking home to Saint
- 18:29Speaker 2: Judge's Cross via the ferry down at Anderson and then
- 18:32Speaker 2: crossing the river and it was like pitch black with
- 18:35Speaker 2: this wee very well light so on, but we ended
- 18:38Speaker 2: up walking home and I was wipe The next day
- 18:41Speaker 2: at school it was like but and that was that
- 18:44Speaker 2: was the first game I went to. And and then
- 18:47Speaker 2: when I was at school, we used to go fairly
- 18:50Speaker 2: regularly into the North Enclosure and yeah, I've got I've
- 18:55Speaker 2: got great memories and I've been fortunate enough to be
- 18:58Speaker 2: something to be at some great games, and through excuse
- 19:03Speaker 2: I got to know some of the players as well,
- 19:05Speaker 2: and I'm still finding a couple of them today.
- 19:08Speaker 1: So yeah, he was there for four years at that time. Sorry,
- 19:13Speaker 1: my dad was there for four years at that team
- 19:15Speaker 1: about the mid to late Really, I just talked about
- 19:19Speaker 1: Billy Henderson that he's got a team foes in the house.
- 19:23Speaker 1: It's Alec Ferguson's in.
- 19:25Speaker 2: The squad, Roger Jo and greg Or, these guys, Roger
- 19:28Speaker 2: Hind Roger Hyde played in the same brass band as
- 19:32Speaker 2: my cousin Bobby. I stressed back brass. I well I've
- 19:36Speaker 2: got I've still got I've still kept up my ways
- 19:39Speaker 2: forever chocolate, I've got all my programs I've got. And
- 19:44Speaker 2: then there was a guy when I was in primary five,
- 19:47Speaker 2: there was a guy, mister Agnew. He was a big
- 19:49Speaker 2: Rangers man. And it's at school on Monday morning, we'd
- 19:54Speaker 2: say he got a prayer the Lord's player, and I'd
- 20:00Speaker 2: oh my eyes up in the program for the the
- 20:03Speaker 2: previous games there, so it's the one where all the
- 20:06Speaker 2: team selection was in the front. So I've kept all
- 20:08Speaker 2: these and yeah, well they will be I've got I've
- 20:15Speaker 2: got the selt It into my Lane program because I
- 20:20Speaker 2: collect the programs that sell it into my line. And
- 20:22Speaker 2: I've got the Rangers by munich When from sixty seven
- 20:26Speaker 2: and the celt into my Lane when is in mint condition,
- 20:30Speaker 2: and that's worth I write for you.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you're talking about players there, then, So who's your
- 20:35Speaker 1: who's your favorites over the years. You've obviously met a
- 20:39Speaker 1: few a few of your friends. Who's who's the top
- 20:42Speaker 1: men for you?
- 20:43Speaker 2: My favorite Rangers play is it's a toss up between
- 20:51Speaker 2: I'm paliwe and Giant and I think very great player.
- 20:57Speaker 2: I love David Cooper because light, loud rop Davy Cooper
- 21:03Speaker 2: could lift you at your seat and I always thought
- 21:05Speaker 2: that was something special. So I would think I probably
- 21:09Speaker 2: settling and the Moody Blue. Yeah, but I've been forced
- 21:15Speaker 2: to see so many great players, you know, over the years,
- 21:19Speaker 2: and yeah, but I think that the for the Rangers ones.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I think these two, yeah, pretty special. You obviously played
- 21:28Speaker 1: against the then the.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Road team, ye Cooper and all the US at Clyde
- 21:33Speaker 2: Bank Clybank. Yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I was a Dunfermlin before I moved to Celtic.
- 21:37Speaker 3: But he was still yeah, and I he was left
- 21:40Speaker 3: wing and I was right back, and he was still
- 21:45Speaker 3: difficult to get the ball off.
- 21:47Speaker 2: To start as well, didn't Tom tom Cown You know,
- 21:53Speaker 2: I'm partied with Tom Rekings. He played his best football
- 21:57Speaker 2: when he was at Motherwell because there was no restrictions
- 22:00Speaker 2: on him. They basically said just Day would want one,
- 22:03Speaker 2: and that's what Tam recks. He thinks he played it
- 22:07Speaker 2: his best football there, and I've heard Graham Sooness say
- 22:11Speaker 2: that was one of his biggest regrets letting him go.
- 22:15Speaker 2: But he was he was needed. He wanted to play
- 22:18Speaker 2: all the time, so I couldn't guarantee him that, but
- 22:22Speaker 2: he was a great player. Told about football, you know
- 22:26Speaker 2: favorite footballers. I was fortunate when I went. Just when
- 22:29Speaker 2: I left Drama College in seventy nine, one of my
- 22:34Speaker 2: mates for school he did civil engineering, so he was
- 22:38Speaker 2: working in Lancaster and for a number of few weekends
- 22:43Speaker 2: we would either drive down and get the train down,
- 22:46Speaker 2: meet him and we go into Liverpool because it run
- 22:49Speaker 2: about that time Doug Leash was looking for his three
- 22:52Speaker 2: hundred three goal and Liverpool had already got it at Celtic.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And so I was fortunate enough to see that Liverpool
- 22:59Speaker 2: team with Sooness and Hanson and it was and nursing
- 23:04Speaker 2: like it and they were just the Babby rolled out
- 23:08Speaker 2: of Hanson. Hanson would give it soon Ess and be pining.
- 23:11Speaker 2: And there was about five corners about the first five
- 23:13Speaker 2: minutes some team there. Oh well there were winning European
- 23:18Speaker 2: cups at that point, you know. So he'd seen Doug
- 23:21Speaker 2: Lash and Sooness. Yeah, I thought they were fantastic.
- 23:26Speaker 3: You know what about your team today which happened? Do
- 23:29Speaker 3: you think they're going to win the league this year?
- 23:31Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. I think I think
- 23:33Speaker 2: it's a really difficult one to call, and you read
- 23:36Speaker 2: up all the things what people are saying. I saw
- 23:38Speaker 2: it before I came in this morning. I saw that
- 23:41Speaker 2: Chris Sutton had sort of said he thought it was
- 23:43Speaker 2: between Rangers and Hearts, and I really don't think you
- 23:46Speaker 2: can say that because all the teams in that top
- 23:51Speaker 2: Sex now they're all capable of beating each other, so
- 23:55Speaker 2: it could go anywhere. And the thing about I know
- 23:57Speaker 2: Rangers did well, it'd come back yesterday. I think I
- 24:01Speaker 2: think the Rangers defenses it's really leaky, it's really bad,
- 24:06Speaker 2: and he carry just relying and scoring four goals to
- 24:10Speaker 2: overcome he cand of be giving teams two goal starts
- 24:12Speaker 2: and stuff like that. And I think it could go
- 24:16Speaker 2: either way. And you're a part of me because I
- 24:21Speaker 2: was met my kindness and a few rangers. I think
- 24:26Speaker 2: it would be really good for the game if a
- 24:29Speaker 2: team out with the whole fun won it, you know,
- 24:33Speaker 2: And and I think if he did, that would be
- 24:36Speaker 2: a tremendous.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Really really, everybody's tipped them to kind of fall away.
- 24:41Speaker 1: They've not. They've led as long as I can remember this.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Ye.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Yeah, even the game at the weekend when we go
- 24:47Speaker 1: behind to a team that mother all decent. Yeah, I
- 24:49Speaker 1: still find the way. It's it's hard to predict this year. Yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 1: it's I covered the Celtic game at the weekend and
- 24:57Speaker 1: they were poor Celtic, poor start.
- 25:00Speaker 2: We were doing our podcast. Yes then I hadn't seen
- 25:03Speaker 2: because I was I was doing in London. But Philip
- 25:08Speaker 2: was saying he watched the game and he said they
- 25:10Speaker 2: said they were poor seams. And Chick, who's non fan,
- 25:14Speaker 2: he said, he said he watched it and he thinks,
- 25:17Speaker 2: you know, the semi final, it could go either way.
- 25:20Speaker 2: So and that's that's not like.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Someding, like the struggle to find goals.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Even to dominate possession, you know, and.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Was actually have something one had the possession, which is unusual.
- 25:33Speaker 2: The guy Kered MacLeish. I actually with him at four cut.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I like him.
- 25:37Speaker 3: I think you can see right away when somebody goes
- 25:40Speaker 3: in and changes how they play, because obviously we Robinson
- 25:44Speaker 3: them got a style will going direct which beat Celtic
- 25:47Speaker 3: in the final. You know, they left come on and
- 25:50Speaker 3: they put one down the side and they got the
- 25:51Speaker 3: goals from it. Whereas he's want a Celtic part to
- 25:55Speaker 3: play to the shackles off and to be honest, that's
- 25:59Speaker 3: actually what he wants.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I was telling me that he was at
- 26:05Speaker 2: I call it the Method, the one with some playing
- 26:10Speaker 2: and big Alec McLeish was there. Was it was some
- 26:13Speaker 2: my Aberdeen and big Alec had come up and he
- 26:16Speaker 2: was there with son John and it was his son
- 26:19Speaker 2: join me saying that there's they are distant relations him
- 26:24Speaker 2: and Craig McLeish, I like cousins three times removed or something,
- 26:29Speaker 2: but they are related. But he's doing a good job.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I like him. I think I think it's a good way,
- 26:36Speaker 2: a good philosophy to.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Play the young ones and you get some if they're
- 26:41Speaker 3: going to express themselves, you can see a difference right away.
- 26:44Speaker 2: That's what they've got to do. They've got to find
- 26:45Speaker 2: a way. I don't know if you changed the legislation
- 26:48Speaker 2: and whatever, but they've got to have a system. Now.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Surely we're young, young Scotch players, big givens. You've got
- 26:57Speaker 2: to give them some kind of encouragement to to come through,
- 27:01Speaker 2: you know, otherwise it reflects in the national team. Yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 2: the struggle.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Which brings us to the World Cup. What's your thoughts
- 27:08Speaker 1: for the World Cup?
- 27:10Speaker 2: Oh?
- 27:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I delighted to be back obviously, but well.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Do you know, it's some mixed feelings. Actually, I've no
- 27:17Speaker 2: wish to go of it, no wish to visit the
- 27:19Speaker 2: States just now the way that things are going politically,
- 27:23Speaker 2: and you know the conflicts are taking place. You know
- 27:27Speaker 2: the thing about it as well, we were there in
- 27:30Speaker 2: ninety four, even tho though Scotland didn't qualify, Philip managed
- 27:33Speaker 2: to get money. It gets to go and from there
- 27:37Speaker 2: and I remember it clearly. Maybe did a clue what
- 27:39Speaker 2: was happening. We were in New York for a week.
- 27:43Speaker 2: What are you doing. We're doing I thing about the
- 27:44Speaker 2: World Cup. That's that's that and so and also you
- 27:51Speaker 2: look at it now the number of teams that are
- 27:54Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure my age, but remember it was
- 27:55Speaker 2: sixteen t yes, four groups of four. Obviously I'm not
- 28:01Speaker 2: saying it's wrong to bolding that, but I think forty
- 28:03Speaker 2: eight now it's just mental. So I hope they do well.
- 28:08Speaker 2: They've got to get a result in the first one. Yeah,
- 28:11Speaker 2: that's the key, isn't it.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Definitely we're old enough to remember right off, all these
- 28:19Speaker 1: teams as well. Yeah, Peru and Costa Rica is over
- 28:22Speaker 1: the years, so I was. I was seen they drew Iceland,
- 28:25Speaker 1: so Morocco, well, I was.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I was at the Costa Rica again in general. Yeah,
- 28:31Speaker 2: I remember that and oh god it was.
- 28:34Speaker 1: They brote them off, but the nict typical. I was
- 28:38Speaker 1: all the time.
- 28:38Speaker 2: I remember watching Peru. I was actually did a thing
- 28:44Speaker 2: for Martvin Doris went through the World Cups and I
- 28:48Speaker 2: started sixty six because I'm holding you guys, but I
- 28:51Speaker 2: remember sixty six. That's when I was first. I was
- 28:55Speaker 2: nine and it was just and I saw in the
- 28:58Speaker 2: warm up to that, the build up to that because
- 29:00Speaker 2: Scotland didn't qualify. They to beat Italy in the Italy
- 29:06Speaker 2: and I remember I was in Primary three at the
- 29:09Speaker 2: time and it was only Primary five and upwards were
- 29:12Speaker 2: there to watch it. But they remember ron Yates. Joe
- 29:16Speaker 2: Steen was a temporary manager and they played ron Yates,
- 29:20Speaker 2: who was the senate half of Liverpool. They had to
- 29:23Speaker 2: play him up front. It was a disaster and they
- 29:25Speaker 2: get pumped. But I remember one of the warm up
- 29:30Speaker 2: games Brazil played Scotland and that was my first Scotland
- 29:34Speaker 2: International and Pelly was playing. My dad reminded me that
- 29:40Speaker 2: I used to say who when I was watching the game,
- 29:43Speaker 2: I was going, who's that guy kicking Pelley? Who's that
- 29:46Speaker 2: man kicking Pelly? And it was Billy Bremer. He put
- 29:50Speaker 2: his lumps into the whole game. Yeah, but that was
- 29:53Speaker 2: one each. Stevie Chalmers scored after the first minute and
- 29:56Speaker 2: the equalized just before halftime.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Scotland was on then went down to Wembland beat England
- 30:02Speaker 1: the following year.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Following Yeah, I've got the program. Yeah sixty seven.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Did you go to that?
- 30:06Speaker 2: No? No, And I was too young for that. Sorry, No,
- 30:12Speaker 2: that was three two, So that was in sixty seven.
- 30:16Speaker 2: The scorers were you.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Know, juggling the ball back to that. No, that was
- 30:19Speaker 1: that was a different one.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Now, hold on, there was one two years previously with
- 30:25Speaker 2: the one to nothing. I think backs they got both goals.
- 30:29Speaker 2: It might have been juggling and he did juggling sixty
- 30:32Speaker 2: seven because Dennis Law told me that he was raging
- 30:37Speaker 2: with him because he'd been part of the team that
- 30:39Speaker 2: get beat nine to three a number of years before
- 30:43Speaker 2: when Frank Hafey was in ing goal right, So he
- 30:47Speaker 2: wanted to get a good score, get a good score.
- 30:50Speaker 2: And no, the six sixty seven was three too.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Wasn't there to do the show boating. It was what
- 30:55Speaker 1: to do.
- 30:56Speaker 2: He wanted to He wanted to eye press and get
- 30:58Speaker 2: more goals. But that was Jim mcaalay thing at the
- 31:03Speaker 2: first the last one and Bobby Lennox he's scored in
- 31:07Speaker 2: that game because I was let me say that was
- 31:10Speaker 2: that was the best year, that sixty something. It was
- 31:12Speaker 2: the year to get married, the year he won the
- 31:15Speaker 2: European Cup, and the year they became world champions.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So going back to we can I put the ball away?
- 31:23Speaker 1: But music then, so was that an influence in your
- 31:27Speaker 1: coming through drama? You're acting be a big music guy.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I used to go to the Apollo a
- 31:35Speaker 2: lot at that time. It was really affordable, you know.
- 31:39Speaker 2: I remember my first concert was Roxy Music and the
- 31:44Speaker 2: support was Leos and it was in the Apollo in Virginia.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Virginia Playing was their big first thing, and I remember
- 31:54Speaker 2: I had it and joined Peel one when they I
- 31:57Speaker 2: went in the next day. The album was the next
- 31:59Speaker 2: day played Virginia Playing, and I bought the first Rocks
- 32:02Speaker 2: and Music album. And of course Virginia Playing isn't the
- 32:05Speaker 2: aun it So I'm in the bust back there. I
- 32:09Speaker 2: went to see them and that was two pounds fifty. Yeah.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Me and my way went and see that. So I
- 32:15Speaker 2: saw loads of bands in the Apollo, Who, the Stones, Wishbone,
- 32:22Speaker 2: I s Deep, Purple Queen, loads of bands. And no,
- 32:29Speaker 2: I really enjoyed my music. I don't know if it didn't,
- 32:33Speaker 2: you know, any influence on me. I was doing drama.
- 32:36Speaker 2: He didn't do any singing. No, I'm a terrible singer.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I was trying to before it.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Simon had many years ago and he was in panto
- 32:44Speaker 3: with my wee brother Donnie, that's right, and one in Glasgow.
- 32:47Speaker 2: One in Edinburgh.
- 32:48Speaker 3: That's right, yeah, yeah, And I was trying to remember
- 32:51Speaker 3: if you were singing, and.
- 32:51Speaker 2: I did sing and that Elaine got me to sing,
- 32:54Speaker 2: but I would never class myself.
- 32:57Speaker 3: As still did you go? Yeah, I used to go
- 33:00Speaker 3: to Albus to go to them all and well my
- 33:04Speaker 3: dad was there. But it was one year I think
- 33:07Speaker 3: it was in Edinburgh and Donnie he came out.
- 33:11Speaker 2: It was three mice, that's right, I remember you mentioned.
- 33:15Speaker 2: I do remember.
- 33:16Speaker 3: They'd see them run out the blue leotard zone tights
- 33:20Speaker 3: and he had the big white mouse heads in the door,
- 33:24Speaker 3: ran out to I don't know if.
- 33:25Speaker 2: It's cinder ll or whatever I meant it was, what
- 33:27Speaker 2: was what's the time? Freddy?
- 33:31Speaker 3: And the mounts head just spinning the boot. I went,
- 33:35Speaker 3: I mean, he's fucking Freddy. My mum was like stop
- 33:39Speaker 3: at you two, Me me and my older brother Stephen.
- 33:41Speaker 3: I mean telling me his fucking the two looking looking
- 33:44Speaker 3: at me pack it and after it and he came
- 33:48Speaker 3: walking after the show and I admit your selling and
- 33:52Speaker 3: Lane c Smith for that as well.
- 33:54Speaker 2: I went, all right, Freddy and he's like, you know
- 33:57Speaker 2: it was me.
- 33:57Speaker 3: I was because you've got the smallest packet before were
- 34:02Speaker 3: still still call him Freddy.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Is that this day? I remember that panto. It was
- 34:07Speaker 2: directed by some old English guy ob Be did now.
- 34:10Speaker 2: But it was the longest planto I think the first
- 34:14Speaker 2: first night it was about three hours long. Oh, and
- 34:17Speaker 2: epic was like one piece. But I remember my thing
- 34:21Speaker 2: about that planto was I was big past Bandy great
- 34:25Speaker 2: passed away a few years ago. He was one of
- 34:27Speaker 2: the dames in it, right, and I was having I'm
- 34:33Speaker 2: usually very professional, but my mum was all at the time,
- 34:36Speaker 2: and I was, I was all over the place, and
- 34:38Speaker 2: there was one Martney. I said to Andy, I said,
- 34:41Speaker 2: do you know what he went on? I said, see this, Martney,
- 34:45Speaker 2: I went yeah. I said, I'm going to do it
- 34:47Speaker 2: like al Pacino sent scent of a woman. What do
- 34:52Speaker 2: you mean? I said, I'm going to do it. It's
- 34:53Speaker 2: a I'm blind. He went, please don't, please don't, and
- 34:57Speaker 2: I did, and obviously remember was a the mate and
- 35:02Speaker 2: it picked up. I've just said the whole stop it, Johnny,
- 35:06Speaker 2: please stop it, stop it. Yeah. That was oh good,
- 35:12Speaker 2: great laughs and two doors down.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I really enjoyed that. I think the one we you
- 35:19Speaker 3: have that you're playing the.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Drunk, well, that's my favorite episode. That's mine and all
- 35:24Speaker 2: I think. Have you seen it? Now?
- 35:26Speaker 3: You need to watch It is absolutely the best drunk
- 35:29Speaker 3: I've seen.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Thanks so much. But see I stopped drinking about seventeen
- 35:32Speaker 2: years ago as well. People say that to myself. Well,
- 35:35Speaker 2: I did a lot of practice prior to that. Well
- 35:38Speaker 2: that's called fish Friday. I remember that. And it's Kathy
- 35:44Speaker 2: goes away to a health farm and leaves me for
- 35:47Speaker 2: a bit a week and they go for best Birthday.
- 35:50Speaker 2: And I've been in the pub for about three days
- 35:54Speaker 2: and it was it was great, funny to do. It
- 35:56Speaker 2: was brilliant. But i'd know, do tudors. It's been great.
- 36:02Speaker 2: We did a Christmas special. You probably know one of
- 36:05Speaker 2: the waters died and everything was put on hold. But
- 36:08Speaker 2: we did a Christmas special and we're about we start
- 36:13Speaker 2: in September. Actually we're doing ten dates in the Hydro
- 36:18Speaker 2: had the guy that that Simon wrote with Gregor Sharp,
- 36:22Speaker 2: he is putting together a show for so we started.
- 36:27Speaker 3: So yeah, look for your two women and that you
- 36:31Speaker 3: know your wife and your girlfriend and.
- 36:33Speaker 2: The girlfriend's bump Jackie. I liked her or not, she's
- 36:39Speaker 2: no more. Okay. It's just one of these things, you know,
- 36:45Speaker 2: doing step. She stepped aside for her in here for
- 36:50Speaker 2: for a number of reasons, and then she wanted to
- 36:53Speaker 2: come back. And we've got such good chemistry. Can you
- 36:57Speaker 2: say plebs as well? She was involved in that she's doing,
- 37:00Speaker 2: she was doing, she's great and and we've got a
- 37:03Speaker 2: really good working relationships. So I loved Michavonne and she's
- 37:07Speaker 2: doing the high life just now, a big thing that's doing,
- 37:10Speaker 2: and she's great. Love working her, but I love working
- 37:14Speaker 2: big big Kathy, great fun. Never know what you're going
- 37:19Speaker 2: to get. One of the first scenes we did back,
- 37:22Speaker 2: she ended up punching me, telling me and You're like,
- 37:25Speaker 2: what's going on? But she's she's great, a good show
- 37:29Speaker 2: good show man.
- 37:29Speaker 1: We had that. I just remembering there. Obviously spoke to
- 37:33Speaker 1: a friend that was I was telling them, you're coming
- 37:35Speaker 1: on and he sent a picture last night athletical partic.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so obviously using the.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Party connection and Boby the barman.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Gavin's in Gavin Mitchell's team team. I've got it on
- 37:51Speaker 2: my phone actually, So there's Gordon Kennedy who was absolutely
- 37:55Speaker 2: he was he was the lead. Gavin, isn't it big? Eating?
- 37:59Speaker 2: My call? That was in satellites so he's in it, yes,
- 38:03Speaker 2: and there's there's a few others.
- 38:05Speaker 1: That was that part because he said, yeah, I think
- 38:08Speaker 1: I'm going to watch it.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Well, Electrical partic it was one of these things, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 2: hindsight's a great thing. It was. It was the first
- 38:16Speaker 2: thing that Ian Patson wrote after Rap scen Is but
- 38:20Speaker 2: stopped the first time he wrote electical Party and they
- 38:24Speaker 2: asked me to be in it. And it was a
- 38:26Speaker 2: little and loving a side football team pub team and
- 38:32Speaker 2: they see having a living in it. It was too many,
- 38:36Speaker 2: they said, see if they made a five a side
- 38:38Speaker 2: team it had been I think it would work better,
- 38:43Speaker 2: you know, but with great fun doing it. But unfortunately
- 38:47Speaker 2: they put it out when Urine eighty six was on
- 38:53Speaker 2: and so with Urinate six one, the last thing you
- 38:56Speaker 2: wanted to do is watch all so but you know,
- 39:00Speaker 2: the previous should have been the pilot that had gone
- 39:03Speaker 2: really well and there was a lot of hope for it,
- 39:05Speaker 2: but it didn't quite work out. But these thinks, you know, yeah,
- 39:10Speaker 2: but I've got it was I always remember it was
- 39:13Speaker 2: yellow with the sight. Yeah, yeah, I'll tell you listen,
- 39:21Speaker 2: give you an idea. Who bad? They all? Well, I
- 39:23Speaker 2: was the best football I was like it was, I
- 39:26Speaker 2: tell you used to Gordon Smith, he the football in
- 39:30Speaker 2: the in the pilot, and then John Hewett faberteen he
- 39:34Speaker 2: he did the series, but I was by far the best.
- 39:39Speaker 2: The White Pearley.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Did you play Did you play any No?
- 39:45Speaker 2: I didn't. I played for for some and I really
- 39:51Speaker 2: enjoyed it, But I didn't play. Phillips he's he was
- 39:54Speaker 2: an accomplished player. Philip Duffers he still plays in goal
- 39:57Speaker 2: actually and he's you know, he's over retirement age. But no,
- 40:04Speaker 2: I didn't play. I played with Dokla boys. Used to
- 40:07Speaker 2: get me a loan for that and I used to
- 40:09Speaker 2: love it. Actually was playing with I said Danny mcgreen.
- 40:14Speaker 2: I was in front of Danny mcgreen. Yeah. He used
- 40:16Speaker 2: to shout at me constantly. Imagine run about, don't run
- 40:20Speaker 2: about you. I'm getting joined blackly slip once gotten away
- 40:26Speaker 2: of a gold bound free kick he took and he's
- 40:29Speaker 2: never let me forget blocked it. So that it's Jerry Collins,
- 40:33Speaker 2: Tony Higgins, Ali Hunt and goal. I still see something
- 40:36Speaker 2: we usually meet up about when someone.
- 40:38Speaker 1: I played in a game up at Saint Rock's last
- 40:40Speaker 1: year for obviously Jerry passing away they did a game
- 40:44Speaker 1: against Saint Rox for yeah, yeah, there was a few played.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Scott Brown played that day as well, so he obviously
- 40:50Speaker 1: throughout the years of still my something.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean Jerry was great. I mean one
- 40:55Speaker 2: of the last teams I turned out from. They were
- 40:58Speaker 2: playing at Lock when I right and this guy halfed me,
- 41:03Speaker 2: I mean just half me. I mean, never felt pain
- 41:07Speaker 2: like it. And they subbed them right away, right, Jerry Collins,
- 41:14Speaker 2: Jimmy Bowen over the dugout, put him back on, put
- 41:19Speaker 2: him back on. I should we put them back on?
- 41:23Speaker 2: The guy's more, but they they were Jimmy and Jimmy
- 41:28Speaker 2: and Jerry were great. Well, he was a smashing boat.
- 41:35Speaker 2: So the movies.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Ay, So what we're doing is we're getting a recommendation
- 41:40Speaker 1: off our guest for our next guests, which we can't
- 41:43Speaker 1: tell you. So had a band called Gallas on last.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Week and.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Picked a film which was Lockstop into Smoking Barrels.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I've never seen that.
- 41:56Speaker 1: This is one of the Okay, so that's recommended Costello
- 42:01Speaker 1: music from the Fetellies.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Oh that's brilliant.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, which are a good recommendation. And then he
- 42:06Speaker 1: went for like a new coming Dorty faces.
- 42:10Speaker 2: I've listened to it, said, I don't have you you'll
- 42:12Speaker 2: know like it? Have you listened to it?
- 42:16Speaker 1: It's a fucking mental song in the can Away home.
- 42:25Speaker 1: So you've got a film, a song, and a band
- 42:28Speaker 1: to recommend.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Okay, good, But I've given us a lot of thought,
- 42:30Speaker 2: and I've actually thrown in a TV series as well.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Go for it, I thought, So, which which one you
- 42:36Speaker 2: want first? Whatever one you want film, I'm gonna I'm
- 42:41Speaker 2: gonna give you a film from the eighties. And one
- 42:45Speaker 2: of the reasons for doing this, I think it's a
- 42:46Speaker 2: great sort of golden spell or that you know, Sunday's eighties.
- 42:50Speaker 2: And it was instant, you know, I went in Saurday,
- 42:53Speaker 2: I went to the pictures with my son and we
- 42:55Speaker 2: went to see Casino Fantastic for and it was nearly
- 43:00Speaker 2: all young kids in the cinema to see us. And
- 43:05Speaker 2: you know, I just brought it back. What a wonderful
- 43:08Speaker 2: form is. It's not that one I'm going to recommend them.
- 43:10Speaker 2: I'm going to recommend one called Something Wild. You may
- 43:16Speaker 2: have seen this. It was directed by a guy called
- 43:18Speaker 2: Jonathan Demi, who went on to direct Silence of the Lambs,
- 43:23Speaker 2: and it's a kind of a dark comedy and it
- 43:26Speaker 2: stars Jeff Daniels Melanie Griffith, and it was the breakout
- 43:30Speaker 2: role for Rarely Otter. And it's about this investment banker
- 43:34Speaker 2: who goes we went after Rails and meets up with
- 43:37Speaker 2: this woman Melanie Griffiths, who is bonkers, right, and they
- 43:42Speaker 2: go in this kind of road trip and end up
- 43:44Speaker 2: she invites them along to her high school reunion dance
- 43:50Speaker 2: and there at the high school reunion dance is our
- 43:53Speaker 2: first love and somebody that she married when she was
- 43:56Speaker 2: very young, rarely Otta, who is mental mental. And it's
- 44:03Speaker 2: a fantastic film and don't give two months away but obviously,
- 44:08Speaker 2: but it's fantastic and the soundtrack for it is brilliant
- 44:13Speaker 2: as well. So that's that's my phone. Recommend something wild Dank.
- 44:17Speaker 2: It's may have been ninteen eighty six, so that's what.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Okay, album and a song, right, So.
- 44:26Speaker 2: I've got loads of favorite artists, say, but my favorite
- 44:29Speaker 2: is the Rolling Stones. I've seen them uns of times, right,
- 44:35Speaker 2: absolutely love them, And I'm going to recommend one of
- 44:38Speaker 2: their compilation albums and it's called forty Licks. It's double CD,
- 44:43Speaker 2: and it's fantastic and my favorite track of all time
- 44:47Speaker 2: is Gimme Shelter.
- 44:49Speaker 1: A good song.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so, and yeah it's used. I mean I
- 44:54Speaker 2: think it. Scarse is used that a couple of times
- 44:58Speaker 2: for films and it's just it's just wonderful. And Elaine, see,
- 45:03Speaker 2: she gave me a a document I see a DVD
- 45:09Speaker 2: documentary about the making of Gimme Shelter. Because the background
- 45:14Speaker 2: singer that's in it, they got her up about three
- 45:17Speaker 2: o'clock in the morning to drive into the studio to
- 45:20Speaker 2: record this as well. And so there's a fantastic story
- 45:24Speaker 2: about the actual recording of that song, which was done
- 45:27Speaker 2: in la as well. But yeah, that's what I'll go for.
- 45:31Speaker 1: That recommendation and watch the film you're going to.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Say, right. So, I was working with this young director
- 45:37Speaker 2: called James Price Springburn, fantastically talented guy, and he said,
- 45:43Speaker 2: he said, if you watched a thing called Mister in Between,
- 45:47Speaker 2: and he heard about this, nobody has, right, but if
- 45:51Speaker 2: you've got Disney Plus, I think you get it in
- 45:53Speaker 2: Disney Plus. So it's an Australian program and it's the
- 45:58Speaker 2: episodes are half an hour low and it's again it's
- 46:02Speaker 2: dark comedy and it's about a guy called Ray Shusmith,
- 46:09Speaker 2: and he's just an ordinary guy. You know, his marriage
- 46:14Speaker 2: has broke up, he's got a week kid, he's about
- 46:17Speaker 2: you know, a primary school age. His brother's got a
- 46:22Speaker 2: terminal illness, and he's got a bad relationship with his dad.
- 46:25Speaker 2: So he's got a lot of things going on. But
- 46:28Speaker 2: at night time he's basically a hit man, right, and
- 46:33Speaker 2: it's bouncing these two mad worlds and that's why he's
- 46:37Speaker 2: mister in Between. And it stars a guy called Scott
- 46:41Speaker 2: Ryan who wrote, He wrote it and he stars in it.
- 46:46Speaker 2: And the strange thing about Scot Ryan Helen Murraan when
- 46:50Speaker 2: she saw it, she recommended that our early agents sign
- 46:54Speaker 2: him up, which he did. But it's the only thing
- 46:58Speaker 2: that he's ever done. If you go on if you
- 47:00Speaker 2: check out the International Movie Database which MD, who's an actor,
- 47:05Speaker 2: that's it's all there. If you check out i m dB,
- 47:09Speaker 2: that's all he's done. And he's absolutely brilliant. And it's
- 47:13Speaker 2: a fantastic series. There's only it's it's three series. There's
- 47:17Speaker 2: three seasons and yeah, I think you, I think you'd
- 47:21Speaker 2: really enjoy it m D. I've recommended to go. How
- 47:25Speaker 2: come I don't know about.
- 47:26Speaker 1: That look well. Thanks again, thank you very much, thanks
- 47:31Speaker 1: for having enjoyed it.
- 47:35Speaker 2: Chills
