- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark Review podcast. I'm Megan,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a
- 0:16Speaker 1: former Hallmark hater. On today's episode, we're discussing Garage Sale Mysteries,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Murder Takes the Stage, which originally premiered on the Hallmark
- 0:25Speaker 1: channel on Saturday, September 19th, and is now streaming on
- 0:28Speaker 1: Hallmark Plus. You know, by the time this episode comes out,
- 0:32Speaker 1: the Countdown to Christmas schedule will have dropped. What do
- 0:35Speaker 1: you think our reaction to that's going to have been?
- 0:38Speaker 1: We are recording ahead of time here. I'm just trying
- 0:42Speaker 1: to be relevant. The schedule drops on this Friday. No,
- 0:44Speaker 1: we don't know this week. We don't know what day.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We are currently recording this on September 14th. You think
- 0:50Speaker 1: that it is... My guess? My guess, and I don't know, y'all,
- 0:54Speaker 1: is Thursday. Yeah, the 17th? I think so, too. That's
- 0:57Speaker 1: my guess. Are we going to... Oh, damn. I'm going
- 1:00Speaker 1: to be out of town. We need to do a
- 1:02Speaker 1: first impressions. We will. That episode will be probably coming
- 1:06Speaker 1: out this week. I would imagine. I imagine. Okay.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Lots of things happening over here at Girls Gone Hallmark headquarters.
- 1:14Speaker 1: HQ. Yeah. Hey, remember that game? What game? Is that
- 1:18Speaker 1: what it was called? Oh, yeah. There was like, that
- 1:20Speaker 1: was really fun. That live online app. It was some
- 1:23Speaker 1: sort of interactive. Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And there was like a big, like, wasn't there like
- 1:28Speaker 2: a big controversy with it?
- 1:30Speaker 1: Probably. Probably. for some reason. What's up into that? I
- 1:34Speaker 1: don't know. It's gone, I think. Is it gone? I
- 1:36Speaker 1: don't know. We need more interactive games. Like, does Wordle
- 1:39Speaker 1: still exist? God, yes. I pay a premium. What about that?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Do you remember that one app where you would draw
- 1:47Speaker 2: pictures and you would like.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yes. Wasn't that fun? I can't remember what it was
- 1:52Speaker 1: called either. It was like Pictionary, but like virtually like
- 1:56Speaker 1: back and forth. Exactly. That was fun. We need more
- 2:00Speaker 1: things like that. Words with friends. Or maybe we need
- 2:03Speaker 1: like in-person conversations. Yeah. Less on the virtual. Less on
- 2:09Speaker 1: the phone stuff. Are you ready to talk Hallmark? I am.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Oh, before we get into this movie, we are doing
- 2:16Speaker 2: a Girls Gone Hallmark book club for the forthcoming adaptation.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Tell me the names of the books and the movie
- 2:24Speaker 2: again because I get it all mixed up in my head.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We're doing Her Night at the Museum is the book
- 2:29Speaker 1: in preparation for A Night to Remember. K-N-I-G-H-T in both cases.
- 2:34Speaker 2: We'd love for you to join. I will drop a
- 2:36Speaker 2: link in our show notes for you. But look on
- 2:39Speaker 2: our Instagram and stuff. We have links over there. Just
- 2:42Speaker 2: a heads up, guys. This book is beyond spicy.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Beyond. Yeah. If that's not your thing, take a pass.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Take a pass. Watch the Hallmark movie because the Hallmark
- 2:53Speaker 1: movie is not going to even come close to this book.
- 2:55Speaker 1: What's the ho? I do have to say this movie
- 2:58Speaker 1: we're going to discuss today did bring the heat.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I got lots to say about it, too.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Let's get into it. Garage Sale Mysteries Murder Takes the Stage.
- 3:07Speaker 2: One of the members of Jennifer Shannon's true crime book
- 3:10Speaker 2: club is murdered during the group's reenactment of the Lizzie
- 3:15Speaker 2: Borden case.
- 3:16Speaker 1: This was directed by Paula L. With 21 directing credits,
- 3:19Speaker 1: Paula has a few Hallmark movies, including In Merry Measure
- 3:22Speaker 1: and Oi to the World, a few movies for Gaff,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and a healthy dose of murdery Lifetime-esque movies. Tina Booth
- 3:30Speaker 1: wrote the screenplay. Her resume is stacked with mysteries, including
- 3:35Speaker 1: many of the original Aurora Teagarden movies, plus its reboot.
- 3:40Speaker 1: a few murder-she-baked mystery movies, and a ton of other
- 3:44Speaker 1: made-for-TV mystery movies based on true crimes. Right in your lane. Seriously.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Lori Loughlin stars as Jennifer. Lori returned to Hallmark earlier
- 3:54Speaker 1: this year for an episode of When Calls the Heart.
- 3:56Speaker 1: This is her first full-length movie on the network since
- 3:59Speaker 1: Homegrown Christmas in 2018. Technically, she did star in the
- 4:03Speaker 1: 2020 Garage Sale Mysteries, Reached and Seized, but the internet
- 4:05Speaker 1: says that it only dropped on Hallmark Plus, and it's
- 4:08Speaker 1: known as movie number 16. I don't think that's true. Well,
- 4:11Speaker 1: the internet may be wrong. I think it aired in 2019.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I don't have any history with this show, so... Yeah, actually,
- 4:19Speaker 1: hold on. I have a DM. Oh, Searched and Seized
- 4:23Speaker 1: aired in May 2020, but it was released on DVD
- 4:26Speaker 1: in May 2019.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Oh, so it came out on DVD before they actually
- 4:33Speaker 2: aired it. Now, did it get primetime airing or did
- 4:35Speaker 2: it just get quietly dropped on like Hallmark movies now,
- 4:37Speaker 2: which that's what Hallmark Plus was then?
- 4:40Speaker 1: I thought it had primetime airing, but someone who knows,
- 4:45Speaker 1: email us. Let us know.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Sarah Strange plays Danny. Sarah has played Danny alongside Lori
- 4:49Speaker 2: Loughlin since the very first Garage Sale Mystery.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Movie in 2013. Kevin O'Grady plays Frank. This makes 81
- 4:57Speaker 1: acting credits for Kevin, who has appeared in all garage
- 5:00Speaker 1: sale mysteries except the very first one. I get Kevin
- 5:04Speaker 1: O'Grady and Kevin O'Leary mixed up. From Shark Tank? Yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Not the same person. Not the same person. Not that
- 5:12Speaker 1: when I was watching this and I said Kevin O'Grady,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I was thinking Kevin O'Leary was going to be in it.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Is Kevin O'Leary Mr. Wonderful? Is that who I'm thinking of? Yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 1: that's him. That's him. He's my least favorite shark. Is he? Yes.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Do you have a least favorite shark? I don't think so.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Maybe him. Probably him. Yeah. He's polarizing.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But I think he's good at what he does. Steve
- 5:30Speaker 2: Basic returns as Jason Shannon. Jason Shannon. That's hard to say.
- 5:35Speaker 1: The S in Jason and then the S in Shannon.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Jason Shannon. Wow. Okay.
- 5:43Speaker 2: This movie will be his 185th acting credit. And we
- 5:46Speaker 2: last saw him on Hallmark in last year's She's Making
- 5:49Speaker 2: a List.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Fun fact. Steve replaced the original actor who played Jason Shannon. Yes,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I watched the first movie. Oh, look at that. Jennifer
- 5:59Speaker 1: and Jason's son, Logan, is played by Connor Stanhope. He's
- 6:03Speaker 1: played the role since 2016. You might also recognize him
- 6:06Speaker 1: from his role as Danny Walter on the series My
- 6:08Speaker 1: Life with the Walter Boys. Do you watch that show?
- 6:10Speaker 1: I do not. I feel like that's a show your
- 6:12Speaker 1: daughter would watch. Maybe. Netflix, I believe. It is Netflix. Netflix.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Ava Bourne appears briefly as daughter Hannah. Ava is best
- 6:20Speaker 1: known for her role as Clara in over 60 episodes
- 6:24Speaker 1: of When Calls the Heart. She also starred in the
- 6:27Speaker 1: 2024 Christmas movie A 90s Christmas. Oh, she's the lead
- 6:31Speaker 1: actress in that. Yeah, exactly. For a complete list of
- 6:34Speaker 1: additional actors, check out girlsconhomework.com because the bench is deep.
- 6:38Speaker 1: The bench is deep, and I know you guys don't
- 6:39Speaker 1: want to listen to it, so... Hey, Wendy, what's your
- 6:43Speaker 1: first impression of Murder Takes the Stage?
- 6:46Speaker 2: It's not a new mystery series, but it's my new
- 6:50Speaker 2: favorite mystery series.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Hey-o. Mine is calling it right now. You don't need
- 6:55Speaker 1: 16 episodes of history to be all in on the
- 6:57Speaker 1: garage sale mystery franchise. I agree with that, but I
- 7:00Speaker 1: have some wishes. Of course. Let's talk about what you liked. Look, guys,
- 7:08Speaker 1: Lori Loughlin is it. Wendy texts me, Aunt Becky can act.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Aunt Becky is a, I know that feels shady. It's not.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I mean, Lori Loughlin played Aunt Becky on Full House
- 7:18Speaker 2: for a very, very long time.
- 7:19Speaker 1: It's not shady. That's an iconic character that shaped our childhoods.
- 7:23Speaker 2: True, but I'm sure she probably doesn't want to be
- 7:25Speaker 2: referred to as Aunt Becky.
- 7:26Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Maybe. I will say Lori
- 7:29Speaker 1: Loughlin as Jennifer Shannon immediately works for me.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I'm all in. As soon as she comes on screen, like,
- 7:37Speaker 2: you know last week we talked about We were critiquing
- 7:40Speaker 2: the dialogue being very transactional.
- 7:43Speaker 1: This was just smooth.
- 7:45Speaker 2: These characters just jump right back into where they are at. Like,
- 7:49Speaker 2: you can tell there's history between all these people.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Please tell me you're not eating ramen for every meal.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I'm not eating ramen for every meal, Mom. I loved it.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I loved it.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Jennifer, the character of Jennifer. Like, again, I have no
- 8:02Speaker 2: history with this franchise.
- 8:03Speaker 1: None. I haven't watched the first movie like Megan watched.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I have nothing. Went fully blind into this. I only
- 8:09Speaker 1: bring in Aunt Becky and Lori Loughlin college scandal into it.
- 8:16Speaker 1: That's all I bring into it. Right. Yeah.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I just was like so invested immediately in Jennifer Shannon
- 8:24Speaker 2: and what Jennifer Shannon does.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Well, she's just like picker. She's this thrifter garage sale person. Woman,
- 8:33Speaker 1: which I need a lot more history on. I'm going
- 8:34Speaker 1: to talk about it in my wishes. But then she
- 8:36Speaker 1: owns this cute little shop, which is giving, if you're
- 8:39Speaker 1: from Orange County, is giving Orange Circle vibes. Sure. A
- 8:42Speaker 1: hundred percent. Like this cute little vintage shop. Yeah. She's
- 8:46Speaker 1: got this best friend who I'm going to talk about
- 8:48Speaker 1: as well.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Like, I love that dynamic. She's got, she's friends with
- 8:54Speaker 2: the cop guy.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Not Kevin O'Leary.
- 8:57Speaker 2: They have this dynamic that is incredible to watch. The
- 9:02Speaker 2: like noodling and jokes back and forth between those two.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I would be very curious to watch the evolution
- 9:09Speaker 1: of their relationship because in movie 17, he's like partners
- 9:14Speaker 1: with Jennifer. There's no like... He's not bugged by her,
- 9:17Speaker 1: annoyed by her. Get out of my investigation. It's just
- 9:19Speaker 1: assumed that she's going to participate. Right.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So they have the whole like little coffee date. He's like,
- 9:24Speaker 2: you didn't tell me we're coming for tiny coffees. And
- 9:27Speaker 2: then she makes fun of him about his like big nids.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yes, I just... It was so damn enjoyable. You know,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I don't know... if you caught it, but it's a
- 9:38Speaker 1: new writer and a new director on movie 17 after
- 9:41Speaker 1: a six year break from making these movies. And it
- 9:45Speaker 1: feels like not a moment has passed for these people.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It's not clunky. There's no finding their footing. I did
- 9:52Speaker 1: interview Steve Basic. That episode came out on our feed
- 9:56Speaker 1: last week. It's on our website. And he said the
- 9:59Speaker 1: same thing like, we just picked up right where we
- 10:01Speaker 1: left off. It feels like they just rolled right on through. Okay.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I'm going to take a small diversion here.
- 10:09Speaker 2: We recently talked about Chris Palaha mentioning in the press
- 10:14Speaker 2: that like, hey, look, Garage Sale Mysteries could pick right
- 10:17Speaker 2: back up.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that show needs to pick right back
- 10:20Speaker 1: up too. Absolutely.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I think they could just jump right back into it too.
- 10:23Speaker 2: So write your letters to Hallmark, guys.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Write them. Back to garage sale mysteries. Name them. I
- 10:29Speaker 1: have a long list of likes, but let me tell you,
- 10:32Speaker 1: this is the creepiest scene I've ever seen in a
- 10:34Speaker 1: Hallmark mystery movie. When Jennifer is on the phone with
- 10:37Speaker 1: Frank and she's like, I think someone's eavesdropping and she
- 10:40Speaker 1: walks out into the hall and he goes don't he
- 10:42Speaker 1: goes don't go and let me just go check it
- 10:44Speaker 1: out classic horror girl trope first of all there's a
- 10:47Speaker 1: house full of people like why isn't she like hello
- 10:50Speaker 1: for somebody to come help her is this a wish
- 10:55Speaker 1: no no the scene is so creepy it's so good
- 10:59Speaker 1: when they zoom in on that door handle and it's
- 11:02Speaker 1: slow and it starts to dark it's They don't rush
- 11:06Speaker 1: that scene. Like it's it's slow and it's the music
- 11:09Speaker 1: is real creepy and the camera angles are really interesting
- 11:13Speaker 1: and the staging of it. And then she gets whacked. Yeah. Great. Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 1: The camera work throughout this entire this entire movie was
- 11:22Speaker 1: so good. There's some really cool angles, some really cool edits,
- 11:26Speaker 1: some really cool camera motions. As a person who isn't
- 11:30Speaker 1: schooled on those things, it was noticeable to me. And
- 11:33Speaker 1: I thought it was very nicely done.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Well, if you remember, we go back to our director
- 11:37Speaker 2: has done a ton of murdery movies.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So maybe she knows what she's doing. Absolutely.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Speaking of Steve Basic, when did he become the sexiest
- 11:48Speaker 2: husband in Hallmark?
- 11:49Speaker 1: Welcome to the Wowie Zowie Club, Steve Basic. In the
- 11:52Speaker 1: beginning of the movie, when they're kind of talking about like, oh,
- 11:55Speaker 1: they haven't had enough time, like, They're both working hard
- 11:57Speaker 1: and they're trying to make dinner happen. And she's like, well,
- 12:01Speaker 1: first I got to go. And she pulls out her
- 12:03Speaker 1: Victorian dress and he's like, can you wear that to dinner?
- 12:06Speaker 1: Like with his low rumbly voice. I was like, whoa,
- 12:11Speaker 1: we have another Christian Grey moment. Sexy empty nesters. Yes,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I love that they lean into the fun side of
- 12:21Speaker 1: being empty nesters. Like, she's a little bit like, oh,
- 12:23Speaker 1: we miss Ben. But they're like, hey, we're all alone.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Get out of here, Ben. I know. I liked it.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I thought Jennifer and Jason really brought some heat. They
- 12:34Speaker 2: have fantastic chemistry. It was just fantastic to me. And
- 12:40Speaker 2: they're up there. They're up there with.
- 12:43Speaker 1: And Wagner. Yeah, for sure. For sure. For sure. For sure.
- 12:48Speaker 1: You know what I love? You know what I love?
- 12:51Speaker 2: That there is, and maybe, maybe because I haven't seen
- 12:54Speaker 2: all the movies, like were they married in movie one?
- 12:57Speaker 2: I know it was a different actor, but were they
- 12:58Speaker 2: married from the jump?
- 12:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 2: There's no like slow burn romance happening. I, you know,
- 13:04Speaker 2: it's my biggest pet peeve with these mysteries. Like I
- 13:07Speaker 2: can't like, let's take the romance out of like the
- 13:10Speaker 2: mystery movies. This isn't, we don't have that here.
- 13:12Speaker 1: They're already married with teenage children. I need more of that.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Maybe because it looks kind of like my life. Sure.
- 13:19Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Yeah. So don't make me
- 13:21Speaker 1: wait for it. I love it. There's no romantic storyline
- 13:24Speaker 1: waiting to happen. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And it's nice to see like a married couple who's
- 13:30Speaker 2: kind of like very much into each other.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Great, great stuff. Great stuff.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I love Danny played by Sarah Strong. I'm not familiar
- 13:39Speaker 2: with Sarah Strong, even though she's got a really deep resume.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I love this.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Like girlfriend friendship that they have and i was reading
- 13:48Speaker 2: like she doesn't just work for jennifer right like is
- 13:51Speaker 2: she like a co-owner in rags to riches i think
- 13:54Speaker 2: so i think it's their shop and she brings like
- 13:57Speaker 2: a comedy element.
- 13:59Speaker 1: She like zhuzhs up her maids yeah and then ladies
- 14:03Speaker 1: like that's not how it was whatever i loved it
- 14:09Speaker 1: i really like her too i really like her a
- 14:11Speaker 1: lot There are so many characters in this movie and
- 14:15Speaker 1: like that's that's every mystery. But there's a lot of
- 14:19Speaker 1: potential motives and there's multiple layers. Right. Like we have
- 14:22Speaker 1: the woman, the collector and her stuff being potentially fake.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And then we have the stepdaughter and the grandson. We
- 14:31Speaker 1: have all these people and they do a really nice
- 14:33Speaker 1: job of. keeping it together. When they are talking through
- 14:38Speaker 1: their suspects, we see flashbacks of like what might've happened.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Like those scenes are staged. Yeah. They have a full,
- 14:44Speaker 1: what looks like almost like a board game layout with
- 14:47Speaker 1: pieces representing everybody when they're trying to figure out, could
- 14:50Speaker 1: they have been here? They do as much as they
- 14:53Speaker 1: possibly can to keep the viewer on track with this
- 14:57Speaker 1: very layered mystery. And we all know that I can't
- 15:01Speaker 1: always follow them, so I appreciate it. Yeah, when it's
- 15:03Speaker 1: too much, we tap out. Yeah, and then they reenact
- 15:05Speaker 1: the whole murder itself at the end. Love it.
- 15:08Speaker 2: You mentioned the stepdaughter, Sierra. I really liked her. It
- 15:12Speaker 2: was played by an actress named Megan Best. I think
- 15:15Speaker 2: she's been on Hallmark before, but I enjoyed her. Like
- 15:20Speaker 2: put her in some more Hallmark stuff.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I like her too. I like the actress a lot too.
- 15:25Speaker 1: But I also thought Sierra's character was one of the
- 15:28Speaker 1: supporting characters that they developed the best. Like we get
- 15:31Speaker 1: to know her really well. We know her backstory. Isaac
- 15:34Speaker 1: was her stepfather. Her mom had died. She's got all
- 15:37Speaker 1: of these things going on. We talked in our recent episode.
- 15:40Speaker 1: And now she's an orphan. Now she's an orphan. Did
- 15:43Speaker 1: you hear that line? I thought that was good. I did.
- 15:46Speaker 1: And we talked in a recent episode about how some
- 15:48Speaker 1: of these supporting characters don't always get fully fleshed out.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And Sierra's character was well-developed. I agree. My final like
- 15:56Speaker 1: is Lori's wardrobe as Jennifer Shannon. She just had good taste.
- 16:01Speaker 1: She's not like some frumpy, like... No. I thought she
- 16:05Speaker 1: looked good.
- 16:06Speaker 2: And I was like, well, you know, she's in an
- 16:07Speaker 2: EP on this, too. I'm sure she probably had a
- 16:09Speaker 2: lot of say on, like, what I want to wear.
- 16:13Speaker 1: She did look good throughout. When she wore that cream
- 16:15Speaker 1: sweater with, like, the lacy underlay underneath it. Loved it.
- 16:19Speaker 1: You know, for a mom who's just out here garage-sailing
- 16:21Speaker 1: and working in her thrift shop, she looked good. All
- 16:23Speaker 1: put together. Let's take a quick break and come back
- 16:27Speaker 1: with our wishes. I needed a previously on. Yeah. You
- 16:40Speaker 1: didn't need a ton of it.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Because like, obviously we got, I mean, from the jump,
- 16:48Speaker 2: like I'm like, okay, she's at a garage sale thing,
- 16:50Speaker 2: you know, but I just needed, I mean, it's been
- 16:54Speaker 2: gone for seven years or whatever it is.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Like, just give me 60 seconds of. Yeah. They tried
- 17:00Speaker 1: to work it in. Right. They're like, oh no, Hannah's.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'm just studying for the setting for the bar. Set
- 17:05Speaker 1: the scene a little bit.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I just needed the tiniest bit. The tiniest bit. I
- 17:12Speaker 2: don't know how they would have done it, but maybe
- 17:14Speaker 2: just something. As I'm like thinking through it, I'm like,
- 17:18Speaker 2: but I still liked it so much. Like it actually
- 17:20Speaker 2: was enough for me to go, I'm going to go
- 17:22Speaker 2: back and watch these.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Absolutely. You know?
- 17:24Speaker 2: My other big wish was I needed a stronger motive
- 17:30Speaker 2: on why our killer.
- 17:35Speaker 1: why i don't think he was trying to kill him
- 17:37Speaker 1: no i know it was an accident and yeah it
- 17:39Speaker 1: was definitely an accident i yes so the mystery as
- 17:43Speaker 1: a whole works for me because i love it's very
- 17:45Speaker 1: meta like you have this lizzie borden thing but then
- 17:48Speaker 1: you're actually they're reenacting a murder but a murder it's
- 17:52Speaker 1: it works for me i love everything about it but
- 17:55Speaker 1: here's here's where i think It could have gotten interesting
- 17:58Speaker 1: because we have Milton and Isaac, right? To me, that
- 18:03Speaker 1: shoving him was like an act of passion. Yes.
- 18:06Speaker 2: And we had learned that they both have ex-wives. And
- 18:08Speaker 2: I was like, this would have been far more interesting
- 18:11Speaker 2: if these two were like lovers and this was an
- 18:14Speaker 2: accident and a crime of passion. He's pushing him and
- 18:16Speaker 2: he knocks his head out.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Whatever. I thought that would have made more sense. Here
- 18:21Speaker 1: it is. It was clearly an accident. And Milton had
- 18:24Speaker 1: so many exits off this freeway and did not take
- 18:28Speaker 1: any of them because he could have easily explained. We
- 18:31Speaker 1: got an argument. I pushed him. He hit his head. Help, help.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Call 911. End of story. Yes. That's all. But I
- 18:39Speaker 1: still liked it. I did too.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Mystery wise. Like I, I still liked it and I
- 18:43Speaker 2: didn't know. I mean, I think for a minute I
- 18:44Speaker 2: kind of thought it was Isaac, the, the board and brew.
- 18:48Speaker 1: That's not what it's called. The, what is it called?
- 18:51Speaker 1: B & B? The B & B. Milton. Milton. That's
- 18:54Speaker 1: what I said, right? You said Isaac. Isaac was the
- 18:56Speaker 1: guy that died. Milton. I kind of thought it was
- 18:58Speaker 1: leaning towards Milton. Did you?
- 19:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I didn't at all. I had no idea. I wasn't
- 19:03Speaker 1: super surprised, but like it wasn't the easiest way out,
- 19:06Speaker 1: I guess. No, I liked the mystery itself. What's your
- 19:10Speaker 1: familiarity with Lizzie Borden? I know the name.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I'm not familiar with the story. And if you guys
- 19:18Speaker 2: have a documentary to send my way, send it.
- 19:21Speaker 1: The internet tells me that there's a series on Paramount
- 19:25Speaker 1: Plus called The Curious Life and Death of... And they
- 19:28Speaker 1: do an episode on Lizzie Borden. Excellent. And then there's
- 19:32Speaker 1: on A & E, Histories, Mysteries, there's a Lizzie Borden installment,
- 19:36Speaker 1: which is on Netflix. Well, tonight is writing itself. So I,
- 19:41Speaker 1: my wish is just that this made me curious about
- 19:44Speaker 1: Lizzie Borden. I know the name, but I didn't really,
- 19:47Speaker 1: the idea that there's this there are these two camps,
- 19:51Speaker 1: like the guilties and the not guilties. That's very interesting
- 19:54Speaker 1: to me. Same. So I'm into that. I wanted to
- 19:57Speaker 1: know more. So these are small wishes. Where's Hannah? She
- 20:02Speaker 1: only appears by phone. What's going on? Is Ava Bourne
- 20:04Speaker 1: making another movie and she wasn't able to be physically
- 20:08Speaker 1: in the same room? She's off doing law school, dude. Yeah,
- 20:11Speaker 1: but it did not, I guess, but it didn't make
- 20:13Speaker 1: sense for her to be. I don't know. I guess
- 20:15Speaker 1: it does, you know, it tracks as reality that she
- 20:20Speaker 1: wouldn't be physically available. Your adult children are not going
- 20:24Speaker 1: to be in your home so much anymore. Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I'm guessing like these kids were younger at some point
- 20:30Speaker 2: on the series, you know, and they were around and.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Ben is quite active. Is his name Ben? No, Logan. Logan. Yeah.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I have one tiny wish.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Okay. Part of me was like, what is happening with
- 20:43Speaker 2: this reenactment? So they're in a true crime book club,
- 20:47Speaker 2: which do I need to be in one of those?
- 20:49Speaker 1: Is my first question. Start one. Second. Hmm. Second question.
- 20:57Speaker 1: They're doing a reenactment? Like, is that normal? I don't know.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And then they're doing it in this house. I'm like,
- 21:02Speaker 1: are they bringing, like, people in to that? Where are
- 21:05Speaker 1: these people standing at to watch this reenactment? Are they
- 21:07Speaker 1: moving upstairs and downstairs? You saw them. I know.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Those were all my questions. And then I did that
- 21:12Speaker 2: at the end. I was like, that's so weird. How
- 21:14Speaker 2: many people do you have there for that? Yeah, not
- 21:16Speaker 2: very many, right?
- 21:17Speaker 1: Because they don't fit in the room. So would you
- 21:19Speaker 1: have to do it multiple times? That was the part
- 21:21Speaker 1: for me that I was like, well... Are there enough
- 21:24Speaker 1: people here to make this make sense? Do they do
- 21:26Speaker 1: this often? Like through the series, I wonder? Or is
- 21:29Speaker 1: the club a recurring theme? I'm just so curious. Let's talk.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Did you see that? I don't have any like real true.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Did you see that? Mine are really questions. And we've
- 21:44Speaker 1: talked about some of them. But my next question is
- 21:48Speaker 1: like the garage sale part of things, garage sale mysteries,
- 21:51Speaker 1: like that didn't play a piece in this movie at all.
- 21:55Speaker 1: You're right. And I'm now talking about it out loud.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I like that they had like probably pivoted over the many, many,
- 22:03Speaker 1: many years. You know, like first it probably started out
- 22:06Speaker 1: as like she's finding mysterious things. That's not the word.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Mysterious things at garage sales and then like investigating those
- 22:14Speaker 2: things and or whatever.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And then they kind of pivoted. Like it had nothing
- 22:18Speaker 1: to do with it this time. It really didn't. You're right.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So that's only my... Yeah. And she only does like... Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I really loved... There's two moments where they kind of
- 22:28Speaker 1: like break the fourth wall a little bit.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Oh, yes.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I don't know if that's accurate describing what happens. But
- 22:33Speaker 1: at one point, Frank goes, here we go again. Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And then later in the movie, Danny goes, this feels
- 22:38Speaker 1: like old times. And Jen goes, we're back. And Danny's like,
- 22:41Speaker 1: we haven't done this in such a long time. Yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 1: I loved it. I thought that was fun. I liked it, too.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I think that's really it when it comes to did
- 22:47Speaker 1: you see that's for me.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't think I didn't think there were any
- 22:50Speaker 2: glaring like, did you see that moment?
- 22:53Speaker 1: Except for the sexy hot.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Steaminess chemistry between yeah yeah it was great and steve
- 23:01Speaker 2: nicely done what did you rate murder takes the stage
- 23:05Speaker 2: well i was most excited for this one and it
- 23:07Speaker 2: paid off 4.75 stars 4.75 wow.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Knocked it out of the park. You know, I really
- 23:15Speaker 1: enjoyed this too. It's a 4.5 star movie for me.
