- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:45So we spent so much time catching up from our holiday
- 0:49break that I forgot to ask you about New Year.
- 0:52New Year's. Gosh, I can't talk.
- 0:54What the heck? New Year's and your New Year's
- 0:57resolution. If you had any resolutions for
- 0:59the New year, do you? The, the, what I mainly try, you
- 1:03know, I mean it's, and it's probably already broken is, you
- 1:07know, I, I, I've, I have tried to keep my weight in control or
- 1:12weight in check. Basically, you know, I had lost,
- 1:16I had lost 20 lbs with the, with tri-cities weight loss.
- 1:20And so and then I think I've gained like 5 or 6 back already,
- 1:25but but that's bad especially. Around the holidays, we.
- 1:29All no, we're coming up holidays, you know, and the
- 1:31goal. I think my biggest thing is for
- 1:33me, I am such love. I love sugar or I have a sweet
- 1:37tooth. So I so my biggest thing is, is
- 1:40a less sugar, I guess less well, well, one for sure is very
- 1:46little fast food. So I I haven't hardly any fast
- 1:51foods. I think that's that's been the
- 1:53biggest change more than anything else is the is the no
- 1:57fast food. And then I do, I do still have
- 2:01to have a soda, but it's it's 0 sugar.
- 2:04There's no sugar. That's good.
- 2:05Yeah, it's zero. It's 0 calories.
- 2:07I mean, yeah. Shaylee drinks the 0 sugar
- 2:09Doctor Pepper and it's actually not bad tasting at all.
- 2:13So, so, yeah, so I, I learned something over this whole this
- 2:15whole trial and tribulation of get kicking the soda habit and I
- 2:19still have the the habit, but I I discovered that that do you
- 2:23realize what the difference is between diet and 0 sugar?
- 2:26No. What is it?
- 2:27OK, so the diet soda like a Diet Pepsi or even a Diet Coke or a
- 2:31doc diet Doctor Pepper is supposed to actually have a
- 2:35different taste. It's not supposed to taste like
- 2:37it just right. And then 0 sugar, the goal of 0
- 2:42sugar is for it to taste exactly like a Doctor Pepper.
- 2:46It's tastes exactly like a Coke or a Pepsi.
- 2:47So for me, right now, for me it's sugar free A&W.
- 2:52So it's root beer basically, but it's sugar free.
- 2:54So, so it mimics 0 sugar because because you always look at like,
- 2:58well, what does it mean? You know, Pepsi Zero.
- 3:00And then why not just drink Diet Pepsi?
- 3:03They actually have different tastes.
- 3:06I see so. Yeah, so the 0 sugar stuff tries
- 3:09to mimic the original product. So, so yeah, for me, I think
- 3:13it's, it's what well #1 #1 fast food prices have just gone
- 3:18outrageous. I mean, no, really it really it
- 3:21really I mean. Especially where you work early
- 3:25and then, yeah, when I worked with you, it was easy for you to
- 3:28just walk to KFC get. It on every day like.
- 3:31Yeah, like Arby's was right there.
- 3:33Like you were just walking to whatever fast food place every
- 3:37day for lunch, basically. So yeah.
- 3:40And because it was convenient and.
- 3:41Yeah. And and, and even then it's
- 3:43like, and you know, again, I'm so, so lucky for my metabolism.
- 3:49So to me, the the heaviest I've ever been is 175.
- 3:52I mean which you? Are not by any means like
- 3:55overweight at all at any point in your life.
- 3:58I don't think I've ever seen you.
- 3:59Fat Captain Kirk. Fat Captain Kirk.
- 4:02But you know. Fat Captain Kirk but but now I'm
- 4:06now I'm 160 and I, you know and I mean I could technically go
- 4:10technically GO-150, but that's hard to maintain people don't
- 4:13realize Oh yeah You know, Megan has talked to me a lot about
- 4:17this is that the reason why the pounds come back on is because
- 4:19you lose the weight and then you start eating normal again yes
- 4:24and it just goes right Not the nice thing it's not for me since
- 4:27I since I took out the fast food and the and the you know all of
- 4:31that The nice thing is it's not that has not come that hasn't
- 4:33come back at a quick pace I mean I still gained 5 or 6 lbs for
- 4:37the to the. Holidays cutting that food out
- 4:40will help with your high blood pressure.
- 4:42And if you end up having, I know you don't have high cholesterol,
- 4:45but some of those issues that start to like creep up as we get
- 4:49older. My cholesterol is like right on
- 4:51the cusp. And so I'm like, oh God.
- 4:53I think the last time I got it checked, last time I got it
- 4:56checked, it was on the cusp. It was on the cusp and this has
- 4:58been years ago, probably 10-10 years ago or whatever.
- 5:01That's right, you need to go to the doctor.
- 5:02I think we talked about this on a last.
- 5:04Podcast I never go, I never go. So Megan, Megan is always on the
- 5:08case about it. So yes.
- 5:09So yes. But the last time I had gotten
- 5:11checked, it was probably on the border.
- 5:15And so it's like, yeah, I mean, it's like just because you've
- 5:19got a great metabolism or you can, you know, at least keep
- 5:22some pounds off, the age gets you to it well.
- 5:25Oh yeah. Megan Megan will tell you age
- 5:27has nothing to do with it. And she's right, it doesn't have
- 5:29anything to do with it, but it's just the I I feel.
- 5:32For me, the older I get, the less motivated I am about
- 5:34anything. Right.
- 5:35For women, though, we get menopause, perimenopause and
- 5:39that and that and that in and of itself can just we'll pack on
- 5:43the pounds. It's just it's the weirdest
- 5:46thing. And so for us, at least, we have
- 5:49that as an excuse or. No, I.
- 5:53Mean it's a it's a very valid thing that happens to us so.
- 5:56I, I think one thing I, I, you know, I definitely have to say
- 6:01is I have taken it for granted. So in my, in my, in my family,
- 6:05I'm a fatty. I am the fattest of I'm just,
- 6:08I'm just fat now. They are.
- 6:12But they all but they all drink. My whole family drinks and
- 6:14smokes well. My my siblings are chain
- 6:17smokers. So they have the natural weight
- 6:20loss stimulant. Well, yeah, they.
- 6:22Yeah. So they're cigarettes.
- 6:23They're. Yeah.
- 6:23My, when I saw my sister at I was crazy.
- 6:25When I saw my sister at my mom's funeral, she had three packs of
- 6:29cigarettes stacked on top of each other.
- 6:32She was outside the She was outside the motel puffing away 3
- 6:36stacks and then she was going. Down.
- 6:39What I'm like, I'm like lung cancer, lung cancer.
- 6:43Hello. So the good news, being a
- 6:45non-smoker, a non drinker, it's like I, I, I mean, I'm going to
- 6:49get the weight more so because I'm just eating normal.
- 6:52Whereas whereas my sister and my brothers all smoke all day long.
- 6:56They they're not eating. Right, right.
- 7:00Yeah. Where I would be snacking in
- 7:02front of the TV where and they instead are sitting there
- 7:06smoking their cigarettes I think.
- 7:08I think you make a great point. Snacking, snacking super tough.
- 7:11So for me, yeah. So, so New Year's resolution one
- 7:14100% less fast food, less sugar if humanly possible.
- 7:19And try to try to keep within a, you know, a reasonable weight I
- 7:23guess. Right.
- 7:25So for you, for you, Michelle. Well, I found, so I try not to
- 7:28make them anymore because I found that when I do make them
- 7:32and I fail, it makes me feel even worse about myself.
- 7:36I mean, I'll have I just call them like OK, yearly goals.
- 7:40Like this year I would like to start walking more because when
- 7:44we do go to Disneyland, there is a lot of walking like we'll hit
- 7:49before noon, we'll hit like 20,000 steps.
- 7:53And so walking I really, which I should do anyway.
- 7:56Again, you and I are older and that's one of the things they
- 7:58say that we should do is walk. A lot of walking, yeah.
- 8:01Right. We don't have to run or lift
- 8:03heavy weights or whatever it is. Walking is really good for us.
- 8:06So I should do it just for multiple reasons.
- 8:10And then I have not been on stage to do any comedy I think
- 8:15in like 4 years. I think last time was when you
- 8:17and emceed the event. Oh wow.
- 8:20Because I am my worst critic. We have talked about this.
- 8:23Oh. You did a great job.
- 8:24So good job. So I'm like, OK, you have got
- 8:28to. Even if I just go do some little
- 8:31open mic night, I think Bill's place here has it every Tuesday
- 8:35or whatever. Even if I just go do that just
- 8:37to kind of dip my toe back in it.
- 8:39I really need to just force myself to do it.
- 8:42But again, it's like getting ourselves out of our comfort
- 8:45zone and being like, OK, you have to do this.
- 8:48Like, I know you can do it. You just go do it.
- 8:51It'll be fine. So yeah, so those are the the
- 8:54few things I for the most part, try to eat healthy.
- 8:57And but why, why is snack a lot? I think is the problem for me.
- 9:03What one thing I've been struggling with lately is the
- 9:08older I get, well, the older I get around, you know, it's just
- 9:10like there's things I want to accomplish then, but when I get
- 9:14home from work, I'm so just I'm done, right.
- 9:18And so I feel like I, I feel like I'm wasting, you know, a
- 9:22bunch of time and I hate that. I hate that it myself because
- 9:25there's, you know, I would like to, I would like to write
- 9:28another book. I've got a I've got a bunch of
- 9:30ideas. I always have lots of ideas in
- 9:32my head. I even have lots of notes and
- 9:35stuff, but there's things I want to accomplish and do.
- 9:38And then now I will give myself at least credit for last year is
- 9:43I had to write that book because I've been wanting to write that
- 9:46book for for I talked about it for 40.
- 9:48Years, yeah. You talked about it all the
- 9:50time, and to see it come to life and be a real, tangible thing
- 9:55was awesome. So, but, but same as you, it's
- 9:58like I want to rewrite that whole book because I'm like,
- 10:01that sucks. You know what I said?
- 10:02I want to go back, put more pictures in.
- 10:04I want to, you know, because my son, he read and knows well and
- 10:08he just picked holes in it. My son Logan just picked holes
- 10:11in it and he, and he was, I mean he was.
- 10:13In everything you do. He does, but it but he wasn't
- 10:16wrong. He wasn't wrong because even
- 10:19Megan, my wife, who's got a degree in English, I was.
- 10:23So I just wanted to get it out there that that I, I think that
- 10:28the proofreading or the, the, the extent that I could have
- 10:31done like a real author. There's a lot of stuff that I
- 10:36that I could have explained, like who's pokey and or who
- 10:39Logan was. I mean, right, kind of get the
- 10:41jet. If you knew me, you're like, you
- 10:43already know this. You already know but but if
- 10:45there's somebody. Know who Pokey is?
- 10:47But someone reading the book does not know that.
- 10:50Is your first wife, your ex-wife Logan's mom?
- 10:53Which have we talked about why her nickname is Pokey?
- 10:56Yeah, Pokey. I don't think you've said, I
- 10:58don't think we've talked about that on a podcast, like why you
- 11:02call her that? Pokey.
- 11:03Well, her nickname. Well, her nickname is Pokey, but
- 11:05it's but her dad called her Pocahontas when she was a little
- 11:10girl. So and then it they shorten it
- 11:12to Pokey and her her her mom's name is Dorothy.
- 11:16Her name is Dorothy. So and and her mom, like his
- 11:20nickname is Dort. And then Pokey is kind of just
- 11:22the the are a nickname to, maybe because they had both had the
- 11:26same name. Right you.
- 11:27Ended up with that. So when I met her, when I met
- 11:30Pokey, she was at the skating rink.
- 11:31She was 15 years old skating at the skating rink and that's kind
- 11:35of where I met that's How I Met met her.
- 11:37She was quite the quite the character Pokey is.
- 11:40She is a character she really is.
- 11:42So that's how. But that's How I Met her at the
- 11:44skating rinks. Me and my mullet.
- 11:47Yeah, my flowing mullet. Hair.
- 11:49Yep, that that hair roller skating DJ gosh, what was I 19
- 11:54years old? And yeah, so anyway, that's a
- 11:57that's a that's a good story for another time for sure.
- 11:59But yeah, but she, I was, I remember working at the skating
- 12:03rink and was like, I don't know how it all came together because
- 12:08it wasn't like one of those where I met Pokey and I
- 12:11immediately went I want to, I had other girl, I had other
- 12:14girlfriends at the time or had girlfriends.
- 12:16No, before I met Pokey. And then it was, it was
- 12:20interesting. I think what happened was I was
- 12:2219, I was dating a girl named Patty and she was 16.
- 12:27And the, the skating rink had no issue with that.
- 12:31Then Pokey became interested in me and we kind of sort of like,
- 12:35oh, maybe. And then I said, well, I said,
- 12:37well, you have to be 16 because remember, 16 is the legal age of
- 12:41consent, right? In our state, in our state, in
- 12:44Idaho. What's that?
- 12:46Oh, in Washington, I was going to say.
- 12:47In Washington, it is. And in Idaho, too.
- 12:50Oh, it is OK. Yeah, it is in Idaho too.
- 12:52So I don't know if those laws have changed.
- 12:54I think they, I think they still are.
- 12:56Don't quote me on that. I mean 16 and 19 is not.
- 13:00I mean I. Mean Todd marriage is still
- 13:01legal in what, like 35 states? Well, and Pokey and I are what,
- 13:064 1/2 years apart? It's not like it wasn't, I mean
- 13:08it wasn't, you know, it was not my mother.
- 13:10It was not my mother. 33 and 16. Okay, right.
- 13:14Yeah, I talked about. That's your moms age difference.
- 13:18That's I talked about that in the book.
- 13:19Right with your dad, yeah. Yeah, my dad was 33 and and so
- 13:23and anyway, so yes, so I had told her, hey, when you know,
- 13:27once we turn 16, you know, we can start dating.
- 13:30We started dating and then all help, all help broke loose
- 13:35because see Barclays even agreeing.
- 13:39So what happened was, unbeknownst to me, the assistant
- 13:42manager at the roller skating rink had a thing for Pokey, and
- 13:45he was 30 something. I'll.
- 13:48Oh, I know, but anyway, so he was like they can't date, blah
- 13:52blah blah blah blah and so. Because he wanted to date her.
- 13:56What? Well, he was married.
- 13:59He wasn't. Stop, man.
- 14:00Are you kidding? Like I, yeah, so it, yeah, I
- 14:03could tell a whole story about that, but it's not my story to
- 14:05tell. But anyway, Pokey and I so,
- 14:11yeah. So I quit the skating rink and
- 14:13started because I was like, no one's going to tell me who I'm
- 14:15going to date. So I, yeah, so I, so I quit the
- 14:18skating rink and, and dated Pokey.
- 14:20And then of course, Logan came along and all that stuff, all
- 14:22that fun stuff. So anyway, not to get off court,
- 14:25not to get off course on New Year's resolutions, but.
- 14:28But yeah, so, but going back to my original statement, it's so,
- 14:31so every single day I come home. I mean, I work a full day and
- 14:34then I come home and I want to do all these extra projects.
- 14:36Yeah. I go outside and play with the
- 14:37dogs and I kind of put I caught putting around.
- 14:40I put around, but I never sit down.
- 14:42And because I have to write for work now creatively, it's like I
- 14:46don't want to come home and write a comic book or a draw a
- 14:48picture or I don't and I don't know why where you know, why
- 14:52does that go away? I guess does that has that ever
- 14:54happened to you where you're like, I really want to
- 14:56accomplish all these things and then I just, I get in front of
- 15:00the TV and I'm like, no, I'm just gonna watch murder.
- 15:02She's. Right, yes, it's the same for
- 15:05me. Like, okay, let's write some new
- 15:08jokes, some new material, let's update what you have, because a
- 15:11lot of it is like outdated. And then I, I open my laptop and
- 15:16all the stuff I had been thinking about for weeks and
- 15:19weeks and weeks, I can no longer remember it.
- 15:22It just like evaporates out of your mind and you're just
- 15:26drawing, sitting there, drawing a blank.
- 15:27And now you have no creative inspiration or that little like
- 15:32spark of energy, like you said. And so again, like you, I just
- 15:36go and watch TV or whatever, whatever.
- 15:39It is and I can't. I can't entertainment.
- 15:42I can't decide if that's an age thing or what, what what is
- 15:46what's that all about? You know, but we.
- 15:49Are also creative people and I think like maybe writer's block
- 15:55the same kind of scenario for us is we have to have we have to
- 16:01have something that inspires us or motivates us or pushes us to
- 16:06do it almost if that makes sense we.
- 16:09Have to. We just have to be like in that
- 16:11plane of whatever it is for that creativeness.
- 16:15And maybe as we get older, we're just not in those places as much
- 16:19anymore. I mean, I don't, I don't know.
- 16:22Yeah, I think, I think it, yeah, I think it's, yeah.
- 16:25Again, it's, it's so, yeah. So New Year's resolution, yes,
- 16:28if I could, you know, get a little bit of, you know,
- 16:31creative, but. But I always feel like work
- 16:33takes so much of it the, you know, because we, because we
- 16:35have to at my work, we have to write two articles a day.
- 16:38It's got to be exactly, exactly the way they want it and all of
- 16:42that. I'm like, so when you come home,
- 16:43you're like, I don't want that bullshit.
- 16:44Right. I think.
- 16:45That's when we have other creative people around us that
- 16:49we like, like, and that helps to spark that in us.
- 16:55We kind of feed off of each other, if that makes sense.
- 16:57So. Well, and, and for me, it's like
- 17:00there's other things that, that there's other things that
- 17:02interest me for sure, but also from a creative standpoint,
- 17:06because I do the radio show every day or Monday through
- 17:08Friday. I, I mean, I, so I do, you know,
- 17:12I'm creative every single day, which is nice.
- 17:14And then when I, and then when you come home, you're like, OK,
- 17:16I don't want to do that. I don't, I don't want to do
- 17:19those. You know, I've already, I've
- 17:20already I've given I've, you know, I've given a little bit
- 17:23you. Know which I mean I get that
- 17:25because my hairdresser so when I did work at the radio station
- 17:30and and then when I stopped working there she said that she
- 17:33noticed the difference when I would come in to get my hair
- 17:36when I worked at the radio station I didn't talk very much
- 17:39and then afterwards now like I talk a lot and it and she's like
- 17:43that makes sense she's like because you had to talk for a
- 17:45living and so you don't want to talk anymore you're kind of like
- 17:48zapped for the day basically and I'm like yeah I mean that's a
- 17:52actually what happens so. I think that's a great, Oh,
- 17:54that's a, that's a great, that's a great way.
- 17:56And then I'm also one of those people like I've got to when I
- 17:59get off work, if I have any errands, I have to run those
- 18:02before I get home. Because once I get home, guess
- 18:04what I don't want to do? I want to stay home I once I
- 18:07have to now. I'm just that personality.
- 18:09It's like I'm not one of those who come home.
- 18:11I'm home now. Now I'm gonna kick off my shoes.
- 18:13Now I got to go do something. No, I'm like, Nope.
- 18:16Under the covers. Get the pillow out.
- 18:18Get the dog snuggles. Yeah, yeah, that's how I am too.
- 18:21Now I've noticed that like, it's dark.
- 18:24I don't want to go outside and go do something.
- 18:27So I, if I so for New Year's, I, you know, I mean, this is fun.
- 18:30This is a great, this is a great outlet.
- 18:31So this is a lot. Doing the podcast is a lot of
- 18:33fun, but I think. We're not restricted.
- 18:36No, no. And that might be that might be
- 18:38part of the problem. But there's a couple things.
- 18:41I mean, there's still a couple things I want to accomplish.
- 18:44You know, one of them has always been, and I talked about ever
- 18:48since I was junior in junior high.
- 18:49I really want to and it's it's just, it just takes so much out
- 18:53of here. But I really want to do my own
- 18:56comic book to where it looks exactly, exactly like, you know,
- 19:00a real 1. So.
- 19:03So that's ever since I was in junior high.
- 19:06So, yeah. But that you have to write it.
- 19:09You have to draw it, I mean, but I mean, that's an incredible
- 19:13undertaking by yourself. And so, yeah.
- 19:17Yeah. That seems like a lot too much.
- 19:19It is seems like too much for me.
- 19:21It is. It is a lot.
- 19:22So maybe someday. Yeah, maybe once you retire then
- 19:27you'll have the time. Well, yeah, I think that the
- 19:29eyesight probably go before then, right?
- 19:31The ability to draw too. Well, and that's it.
- 19:34That's another thing is what's interesting because because you
- 19:36know, I used to draw a lot and now I'm not.
- 19:40I'm just not motivated to draw. It's probably been a few years
- 19:42since I really sat down and drew something and then I now have to
- 19:45wear, I have to get out reader glasses.
- 19:48Yeah, even though, even though I mean, I, I'm still 2020, but
- 19:52then really close stuff, I have to wear reader glasses.
- 19:54Now, yeah, so I have, I have both eyesight going.
- 19:58Before my knee surgery, I had great eyesight.
- 20:01And then I realized I can't see that road sign when I was
- 20:05driving far away, Right. And so I'm like, oh shit.
- 20:09So I went and got my eyes checked and sure enough, I
- 20:12couldn't see far away, whatever that is.
- 20:14Isn't that near sighted? I don't know you're.
- 20:15Like they're. Opposite or whatever.
- 20:18Right and but. Now I can't see it close up very
- 20:21well either and I'm going Oh my God, like this.
- 20:25Is horrible you have lasik or I have contacts?
- 20:29No, I have nothing right now. Hold on.
- 20:31I do have glasses but they are like the transition.
- 20:36So they have both in them. OK.
- 20:37And so trying to go up and down stairs or oh.
- 20:40Look at that. Hold on, look at those.
- 20:42Oh jeez. I can't put them on with my.
- 20:44Oh yeah, there you go. They're like sparkly though they
- 20:47are see like. I like it.
- 20:48Inside, Yeah, yeah, of course. But yeah, it's like being on a
- 20:52roller coaster trying to go up and down the stairs.
- 20:55And so I find myself not wearing them when I should be wearing
- 20:59them so. OK, GM Brady.
- 21:02Yeah, you know, kind of you kind of look like you kind of look
- 21:05like Missus Howe from the Gilligan's Island when he had
- 21:07those on. But that's.
- 21:08OK, I mean, I like them. I like them.
- 21:11Otherwise I don't mind the fact that I have to wear them, but I
- 21:15just don't like the feeling. I think of the transition and
- 21:19that weirdness about it. So I don't know which the eye
- 21:23doctor warned me. He said it's going to take you a
- 21:26long time to get used to this because at that time I wasn't
- 21:29wearing any glasses. And I.
- 21:31Opted for this. It it.
- 21:34It's partly my fault. It's weird because I am, I am,
- 21:41I'm near side, which means but, but for me, it's just what's
- 21:45interesting. It's a slight blur.
- 21:46It's not so you can see what? I don't have glasses on.
- 21:49You see me function all the time without glasses.
- 21:51Oh yeah. You know, but when I drive, I
- 21:53will have AI have my glasses on because again, I can't see the
- 21:55sign signs this blurt. Now I know it's a stop sign.
- 21:59I know it's a yield sign. I mean, and if I squint, I can
- 22:03see the lettering. So it was always fun being a kid
- 22:05when I would would get picked on and I have my glasses on and
- 22:08they're like, oh, come on, a four.
- 22:10And then I'd take my glasses off and I'd hit them and they go you
- 22:13can see. Well, duh, I'm not blind, you
- 22:17know. Well, they did because it's
- 22:19like, oh, you have a slight blur.
- 22:20So, so I can 99.9%. But for me, like you just said,
- 22:25it's an irritation to have that slight blurriness.
- 22:28Yeah, so that's why. So that's why I have, and that's
- 22:30why I always have the glasses hanging for my shirt, you know,
- 22:33because it's like it's, if I need to look far away or look
- 22:36far away, I put them back, put them on.
- 22:38But, but everything else for me is 2020, which drives me nuts.
- 22:41So it's like I have to go on and on like this.
- 22:44And it, it, you know, Megan, for years I had worn contacts with
- 22:49Megan hates the fact that I don't wear contacts anymore.
- 22:51But the problem was I have an astigma.
- 22:55I have astigmatism. And so I could, I could not wear
- 22:58what they call the torque lens, which is the big fat ones, the
- 23:01big lenses. So I couldn't do that.
- 23:03I had to have the just the regular.
- 23:04So I never saw why I had my contacts at the time.
- 23:07I never saw 2020 anyway. And then my, and then my eyes
- 23:11would have to adjust because I can see without without the
- 23:15contacts. And so I have to takes me a
- 23:18second to adjust my eyesight on everything I just got.
- 23:21It got so annoying. I'm like, OK, fine.
- 23:22I'll just wear my glasses when I need them because that slight
- 23:25blur just drive me nuts. I've thought about getting the
- 23:28LASIK, but my friend Risa, the one so we've talked about on the
- 23:32show, she's had it and but now she has like that night
- 23:35blindness and she can't drive at night anymore.
- 23:38And so I mean, very rarely can she drive at night.
- 23:42And so I'm like, oh God, like I don't want that to happen
- 23:45because that does. That can happen to some people
- 23:48who get LASIK. Yep, I had talked to, I had
- 23:50talked to the optometrist about LASIK years ago and he says I, I
- 23:56mean, I have enough good vision. He's like, man, if something
- 23:59goes wrong, you could lose the good vision you have.
- 24:03Like like you just talked about the night vision or anything
- 24:05like that, those, those situations And I was same as you
- 24:08guys, terrified like, Nope, I'll keep because again, 99.9% a day
- 24:12I can operate without glasses. So and so I just really, I
- 24:16really need him just for signs, you know, because.
- 24:19Yeah on a yeah, just for science.
- 24:21No, I'm not really digging night anymore.
- 24:23I mean, I can drive at night. I definitely have to wear
- 24:26glasses at night for sure. Yeah, I because the lights are
- 24:29getting well, the lights are getting just too like
- 24:32everybody's got them damn fluorescent lights.
- 24:35That it's. Halogen lights or?
- 24:36Whatever. Yeah, it's yeah.
- 24:38It's like no one has the nice yellow lights anymore.
- 24:40It's all freaking like, what the hell are we?
- 24:41What are we lighting up down the road?
- 24:43If we go? It's like, my God, nail the old
- 24:45ones. Oh, and they have the light bars
- 24:47and shit. You know what I'm saying?
- 24:48It's not even it's not even like you're dealing with two lights
- 24:50coming down the road. It's like, you know, like you
- 24:52said, it's like what what the F man to flashing your you're
- 24:56flashing your little yellow beams like and they're like
- 24:58here, let me show you my real bright.
- 25:00Here's my here's my Here's my light bar.
- 25:03Yeah, yeah. So, yeah.
- 25:05So the fluorescent is. Yeah, it's killer.
- 25:07So I'm with you on. It yeah.
- 25:08OK, well, let's move on because I want to ask you about if you
- 25:12saw if you saw the TikTok. It has over 3 million views I
- 25:16think now. So it's a woman who says that
- 25:20men shouldn't need a three page manual to take care of their own
- 25:24kids, which I could not agree more.
- 25:27OK, I agree with that. Although I, I think probably
- 25:30some of this stems from like just moms being overprotective,
- 25:35hovering mom, you know, the ones that think that the husband
- 25:38can't take care of the kids, the husband or partner and they but
- 25:41they really can, but they're just overbearing basically.
- 25:45And to me, if you have to, to help your partner or husband
- 25:51take care of the child or leave them instructions or whatever it
- 25:53is, the first of that they're not an equal partner.
- 25:56And then that's just another child that you have to take care
- 26:01of, like your husband or your partner.
- 26:05Maybe you just do and who needs that?
- 26:08I know we've had the conversation which I find it.
- 26:10I find it odd. There's a couple things that
- 26:12when people I find some kind of language odd.
- 26:14So we once had a Co worker who was going home and goes he goes
- 26:18I'm going to go. I have to go babysit my
- 26:20daughter. Yes, that came to my mind too.
- 26:22Exactly. Yes, Yes, you.
- 26:25Don't Yes, you don't babysit your own kids.
- 26:27No. Ever.
- 26:28Never. I was babysitting kids when I
- 26:31was 13. I get it.
- 26:33And if some grown ass man can't watch his own kid.
- 26:37That's yeah, so I've that's you know, yeah, that is always stuck
- 26:40in my well, I've heard it Yeah, I've heard it.
- 26:42I've had a couple Co worker men, Co workers say that not just
- 26:45that one, but a couple. And I'm like, that's your own
- 26:48kid. Yeah, that that's your own kid.
- 26:49And I once had a Co worker, which I was not.
- 26:52He has two daughters and they're very sweet and goes, Oh yes, I
- 26:54go home and I smoke a bowl and I'm like, what the really take
- 26:57care of your damn kids. I wouldn't want you.
- 26:59I mean, I felt I felt bad for his daughters.
- 27:01I'm like, you know, they're toddlers and he's going home and
- 27:03smoking a bowl. I'm like, oh hell no.
- 27:05Great, like how can you be present as a parent?
- 27:08You can't. That is crazy.
- 27:11When my kids were growing up, you know, the Jay was, he was
- 27:14not home during the week. So it was just me and the kids
- 27:17and I would not hear about these wine moms that would drink a
- 27:21glass or two glasses of wine. I never drank anything if it was
- 27:26just me and the kids because what if something happens?
- 27:29What if something happens and now I need to drive them to the
- 27:31emergency room or anything like? That it's just.
- 27:35Great, this is common sense to me.
- 27:36That's. Responsible, well, it's big
- 27:39well, but it's also because the way we grew up.
- 27:42So, so because of the way we grew up, we we hopefully paid
- 27:46more attention to our children. Yes.
- 27:49And and the how Logan, how Logan views me matters.
- 27:53So, so, so for me it was like, well, you, we've talked a lot
- 27:57about this on the radio. It's like people are like, oh,
- 27:59you don't drink or smoke because you're religious.
- 28:01No, it has everything to do with the fact that I came from a
- 28:04broken childhood. And, and so I, so when I had my
- 28:07own kid, I'm like, OK, my kid will never, never see me
- 28:10inebriated. He'll never see me never be
- 28:12functioning. I will always good or bad, I am
- 28:16who I am. This is me so, so I'm always so
- 28:18making those decisions. But yeah, so I don't think, I
- 28:21don't think a man needs a three book manual on like.
- 28:24Three page manual again, I think some of it is these moms being
- 28:29overbearing. Your husband is capable of
- 28:31taking care of the kids like yeah, it may not be perfect like
- 28:35how you'll. Never be.
- 28:36Perfect. But as long as they're engaged
- 28:40and taking care of them and nothing, they're not coming.
- 28:43Nothing. No harm is coming to them.
- 28:45Like then they Yeah, they you doesn't have to be.
- 28:48Exactly. How you would want it as the
- 28:50and? You got to let and you got to
- 28:52let you got to let dads be dads. I mean, you know, so, and, and
- 28:57it's sad. I mean, I think it's it, I think
- 29:00it's the most ridiculous thing when a dad doesn't want to be a
- 29:03dad or a father to their, their, their kids.
- 29:05I mean, we went, we went through all this as kids.
- 29:07So I, it, it rings deep in me that I, that I, for me, I had to
- 29:11have a good relationship with my, my son.
- 29:14It's important to have a good relationship with him.
- 29:16I'd like to think I do. I don't know.
- 29:18I don't, I mean, I've never asked him what he thinks of our
- 29:20relationship, but I'd like, I'd like to think, you know, Pokey
- 29:23always said, Pokey always said, yeah, he puts me on a well, I'm
- 29:26not going to say it because he's going to.
- 29:27No, I don't do it. No, I don't.
- 29:29Put you on but. Yeah, but he did when he was a
- 29:31kid. You did when, you know, we did
- 29:33when he was a kid. And he goes, you know, and he
- 29:35goes, well, you know, you could do it.
- 29:36You could do no wrong in your son's eyes.
- 29:38But but, but I was always there for him.
- 29:41I was always there for him no matter what.
- 29:43And always supporting them and, and and doing, doing the best
- 29:46that I that I could with him. So yeah, I think that, yeah, I
- 29:51think that you got to parents have got to be there for your
- 29:53kids, men, men and women. Right.
- 29:56And when? Yeah, no.
- 29:58Women who keep their women who keep their the the the dads away
- 30:02from their kids is. Even worse.
- 30:04Yeah, sorry with with with the J being gone for work.
- 30:09Then he would come home on the weekend.
- 30:11He would want to be the Disneyland dad and he would let
- 30:14them do things that I wouldn't let them do during the week.
- 30:17Or. Mess up the house and build
- 30:19these forts and I had to learn to let it go because I was like,
- 30:24look, this is this will all clean up.
- 30:27Like sure, you might have to clean it up but or hopefully,
- 30:29yeah, but you know what? This is the time that he wants
- 30:33to spend with him. This is how he wants to spend
- 30:35it. So just let go.
- 30:37The house will get clean. It doesn't really matter.
- 30:40Just stuff like that, that I just had to be like, this is
- 30:43you're being dumb like I had to like you're being dumb about
- 30:47they're messing up your house when he's clearly having fun
- 30:51with the kids. Just let it go.
- 30:52Let it go. Yeah, I think that's what I
- 30:54think. That's one of the things that
- 30:55that Megan was glad in her mind that she never had children with
- 30:58me, because I think it. Was even the daily Disneyland
- 31:02dad? Well, I think, yeah, I think
- 31:04she. I think she, you know, I think
- 31:07she has a the wrong impression of me because the dogs get away
- 31:10with murder. And so to her, she's like, well,
- 31:13that's how you treat kids. You, you know, like, well, no, I
- 31:15mean, I wouldn't. I mean, you know, you know, you
- 31:18know me. My number one rule is how you
- 31:19treat others is the number one. I could care less if my kids
- 31:22room is a pigsty. That's on you, dude.
- 31:24You know, if you, if you want to live in a, if you want to live
- 31:26in a through, live in a through, I don't care.
- 31:29But but you will, you will have manners.
- 31:31You will be respectful. You will, you know, God, I mean,
- 31:34my, you know, look at my foster mom.
- 31:37He's like, you know, and anybody, and I will say anybody
- 31:40who's ever encountered Logan has said he's a great, wonderful
- 31:44person, right? Like he's very kind.
- 31:47He's very nice. He's not.
- 31:48He, I would never, I would never.
- 31:50Logan is not a Neanderthal by any means, right?
- 31:53You would not call Logan a knuckle dragon.
- 31:56Right. And even though he is adamant he
- 31:58is not ever having children, I think he would make an
- 32:02exceptional dad dad. He'd be a good.
- 32:04Dad, just because of who he is himself as a person, so.
- 32:08He's a good person. And, and, and I think at the end
- 32:11of the day, that's all you can expect of your kids is, I mean,
- 32:14above all, be a good person, be a good person.
- 32:17And, and, and that's one thing I, I like about Logan, I think
- 32:20more than anything else is I know push comes to shove, he'd
- 32:23make the right choice because he's got a conscience.
- 32:26And and that comes and that came from, well, hopefully his
- 32:30parents given him the right or wrong when he was a little kid.
- 32:33So I, I don't think I, yeah, I don't think the dad needs a
- 32:36manual. I do think the dad should be
- 32:38involved. Well, yes, daily, Yeah.
- 32:40Yes, yes, they should. OK, well, while we are talking
- 32:46about TikTok, there was another TikTok that I wanted to talk
- 32:48about. So it is of a grandma, she's
- 32:52holding her baby or her daughter's baby.
- 32:55She's holding the baby anyway and her daughter like slaps her
- 32:59because the grandma kisses the baby.
- 33:02I know this is a hot button around you so.
- 33:05The mom, the baby like slaps her and it's like, well, yeah, like
- 33:09she's told her mother, the grandma not don't kiss the baby,
- 33:14which that is the new recommendation now is unless
- 33:17you're the mom or the dad not to kiss the baby, which this is
- 33:20something. That like are you talking to
- 33:22kiss the baby on the lips or on the?
- 33:25Just anywhere on like anywhere on there, anywhere.
- 33:29Like just don't kiss them basically, especially on the
- 33:32lips and the face especially, but just get it.
- 33:35Just don't kiss them, which is something that Benjamin and
- 33:38Haley have implemented. And I completely get it.
- 33:41Like you have herpes, like people have herpes that don't
- 33:44have outbreaks or whatever. There's sicknesses and the only
- 33:50reason that you as the adult need to kiss the baby is for
- 33:54you. Like that baby is not going to
- 33:56know that you're not kissing it. They're just, they're not,
- 34:00they're too little, they're not going to know.
- 34:01And it's only for you as the grandparent or the relative,
- 34:06whatever it is that you're kissing this baby.
- 34:08So I completely understand where she's coming from and.
- 34:12Are the parents allowed to kiss the baby?
- 34:13Yes, so mom and dad can kiss the baby OK, but nobody else.
- 34:18That is the recommendations now. I was, I was gonna say cuz, I
- 34:22mean, not that I kissed Logan a lot, but Keith Logan's basically
- 34:24the only male I've kissed. I mean, on his forehead and when
- 34:27he looked up the little baby, right?
- 34:29Right. Yeah, yes, yeah, Of course.
- 34:31I love my love. I mean, I yeah, I snuggled with
- 34:34him. I love doing so.
- 34:35Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:36I'm good with that. I'm good with that.
- 34:37So so yeah. So they got so they got into a
- 34:39fisticuff. Well, yeah, she like, slapped
- 34:42her. She slapped her mom, which she's
- 34:45warned her mom multiple times. Don't kiss the baby.
- 34:47And then she did. And she she's like, slapped her.
- 34:52So yeah, I get it. I understand.
- 34:55I'm surprised Benjamin has not done that to some relatives.
- 35:01I think some of them forget that they're not supposed to kiss the
- 35:05baby. And so he has to keep telling
- 35:08them, like, hey, don't, don't kiss the baby.
- 35:10Don't kiss the baby. She's cute.
- 35:13So it's happened a few times that I was sitting there going,
- 35:18Oh my God, I was waiting. I could see the look.
- 35:21On his yeah, we have not. Good for you.
- 35:23I would struggle. I'm not going to lie, I was
- 35:26struggling. If I had my grandbaby, I'd be
- 35:28struggling. Don't get me wrong, like I would
- 35:31love to kiss her, but again, it's only for me.
- 35:34It's not for. I get it.
- 35:36She's not going to understand that.
- 35:38So what kissing? Actually get to kiss her on the
- 35:40forehead. I'm I don't know, like, I don't
- 35:44know, like when you can kiss them or.
- 35:48No, I get. I I understand the principle
- 35:51behind the whole, the whole I get, I get it.
- 35:53But man, being the grandparent, if I had a grandbaby, that'd be,
- 35:57I can't tell a lie. I would struggle with that.
- 35:59For me, for me it. Is hard especially when I
- 36:02babysit her and you have her you know snuggled up to you right to
- 36:07just not go but again I don't need to do that I don't I got me
- 36:12to do that yeah yeah, I I thought it was interesting I
- 36:16thought it was funny hopefully I would love to see like my son
- 36:19slap somebody they're kissing the baby because it's not going
- 36:23to be me so. Now I I cannot tell a lie.
- 36:26So this is where Megan is correct.
- 36:29Pokey's correct is if I was going to break the rules, I
- 36:34would. I am.
- 36:35I am definitely a rule breaker. This is where you would.
- 36:37Secretly. Kiss the baby.
- 36:39Well, that'd be 1 my own, my own, not somebody else's baby,
- 36:43remember? I mean, I would not There's
- 36:45there's, there's way too many cases out there in the world.
- 36:48Like, no, I don't. I don't ever approach anybody
- 36:50else's but my own. But my like my own son, I did
- 36:53kiss him on the forehead. I probably kissed him on the
- 36:55lips maybe a couple times. And he's like, baby, I mean,
- 36:58it's like, oh, I love you so much, you know, but that's about
- 37:01it. So, but yes, I, I would not, I
- 37:03would be a rule breaker. So I probably not.
- 37:05That's the one thing I think that I would probably get in
- 37:07trouble for if I had a grandchild.
- 37:10I would not kiss him on the lips.
- 37:12I would not kiss my grandchild, but I'd probably kiss him on the
- 37:14forehead. Right.
- 37:15Yeah, I'd. Probably get in trouble for it.
- 37:17Right. And keep doing well.
- 37:19But if you keep. But here's the thing, if you
- 37:21keep doing it and they have told you over and over, then they're
- 37:25going to limit your access to your grandchild now because
- 37:29you're not listening. I.
- 37:30I hear what you're saying. So you run the potential of
- 37:36never seeing your grandkid again if you keep doing that, which is
- 37:39completely understandable. OK, well I want to talk about
- 37:42this Barbie. Have you seen the Autistic
- 37:45Barbie? That my just.
- 37:47Came out with, I know, I was so excited about this.
- 37:50So she joins. There's a whole collection.
- 37:52So there is a Down syndrome Barbie, a blind Barbie, and then
- 37:56there's a Barbie and Ken have a vitiligo.
- 38:02That's the Michael Jackson. Yeah, that's the pigment.
- 38:06Yeah, so I thought that was so wonderful.
- 38:09I guess the autistic Barbie, she comes with a fidget skin, a
- 38:13fidget spinner, fidget spinner, and the noise cancelling
- 38:16headphones and the tablet. So I thought that was super
- 38:19cute. Remember when people got so
- 38:21pissed when they started giving Barbie professions?
- 38:23Do you remember that? Yeah.
- 38:25Well, well, all of that, yeah. Yeah, it's like.
- 38:27Well, they got mad. They got mad when they had a
- 38:29black Barbie or a brown Barbie, remember?
- 38:32Yeah, that's the insanity that the insanity of the of the world
- 38:36back then was like, right. You know, I mean not getting up
- 38:39my kids, not getting a Barbie that looks like him.
- 38:42But yeah. That's the most the most absurd
- 38:45thing is, you know, thing people that you know, like you said,
- 38:49it's going to be it's a it's a great thing.
- 38:51Yeah, I mean Barbie can only be dumb blonde with an unrealistic
- 38:55body. I guess I I mean it, it makes
- 38:58sense. That's the.
- 38:59Yeah. I mean, that's basically like if
- 39:01you strip away, if you just go back to the OG Barbie, like
- 39:04that's what she is. I mean, that's.
- 39:06Well, but, but I also say, well, it's not the 1950s anymore and
- 39:09it's 2025 and there are so many, there's just so many different
- 39:14people that I think that that's the, that's the big thing I
- 39:18think more than anything else is they're like me.
- 39:21So if they look, so if a little kids at the store and he's
- 39:24looking at the shelf looking for a toy and oh, they, they look
- 39:28like me or they, they have some attributes that I that I don't
- 39:31have. I think it's I think it's a good
- 39:33thing. I don't.
- 39:33I don't think we should have, you know?
- 39:35Which is why I love the Barbie movie.
- 39:37Did you watch the Barbie movie? I did not.
- 39:39I know I did. Oh I did.
- 39:41I know it had the message. Oh, the message.
- 39:49What message? Well, A.
- 39:50Lot of people, a lot of people didn't care for it because what
- 39:53do they demasculite kin, you know?
- 39:57Yeah, things like that. So, but, but again, I'm going to
- 40:00go back to the original statement, like I've always
- 40:01said. And you know, Superman could be
- 40:05gay, Batman could be black. They're fictional.
- 40:10Yes. People.
- 40:12Flipped out over Little Mermaid the.
- 40:14Oh yeah, so I so I'm I'm a huge fan.
- 40:16It's like she. A mermaid is not a real God damn
- 40:19character. But but I also look at like,
- 40:22like Sherlock Holmes could be a woman.
- 40:24I mean, it doesn't have to be because again, they're
- 40:27fictional. They're fictional characters.
- 40:29So but people and maybe even Michelle to some extent.
- 40:32When you're talking about one of your favorite, what's 1 of what?
- 40:35It's one of your favorite movies or one of your favorite
- 40:37franchises that. You know, Labyrinth, we just
- 40:40talked about this last episode. Right.
- 40:42So so yeah, So what if they redid it?
- 40:46And did a remake. And made the characters
- 40:49different. The Goblin King is.
- 40:51That's a Goblin Queen, let's just say.
- 40:53That'll be fine. Which there is.
- 40:55Rumor talks that there is going to be a Labyrinth remake and the
- 40:59director he has directed Alexander Skarsgard in Northman,
- 41:05Northman and I think another other movie.
- 41:07And I was like, that would be amazing if Alexander Skarsgard
- 41:12plays the Goblin King like. That would.
- 41:14Be that would be. Michelle would die and go to
- 41:17heaven. Yes, exactly.
- 41:18Yes. Her all her all time favorite.
- 41:22So yeah, I'm for me, fictional characters can be whatever you
- 41:25want them to be. It's whatever the writer
- 41:27imagines them to be. So and I just don't understand.
- 41:30But again, like you said, when you when you deal with fandom
- 41:32that are psycho that you know that you're not allowed to
- 41:35change anything about the I think at the end of the day, I
- 41:38always say was the story good? You know and and if the story.
- 41:42Is good. Did it move you?
- 41:44Did it touch you? Did it in some way make you
- 41:46think or whatever, Whatever you're watching.
- 41:50And and, and again, it's like, and then it's like when we talk
- 41:53about all the time, it's like, well, who is the audience?
- 41:55Who is this trying to, who is this trying to speak to?
- 41:58It's not trying to speak to Nana that's 75 years old.
- 42:01That is, you know, racist. Yeah, that's racist.
- 42:04I mean, it's like, and so that's one thing I always love about.
- 42:08That's one thing I always love about radio stations is because,
- 42:12you know, radio stations are mass appeal, of course, but then
- 42:15there are people that come to you and it's your and it's your
- 42:18women's station 1834 and it's a 65 year old man with the biggest
- 42:21belt buckle and like, I don't like your music.
- 42:24Well, you shouldn't like what are you talking about?
- 42:27You? You shouldn't be, you shouldn't
- 42:28like the the Top 40 radio station.
- 42:30It wasn't built for you. So, but it's a but amazing, but
- 42:34it's amazing that everybody's got an opinion, if that.
- 42:38Yeah. That's that that.
- 42:40Oh, social media. Did I, did I tell you?
- 42:43Oh, I did tell you about before we go, I did tell you about we
- 42:45had to get some air conditioning work done or we had to get
- 42:48furnace work done, right? And the guy and the guy didn't
- 42:51listen to the radio station. No, you didn't tell me about
- 42:53this. I just knew that you were having
- 42:55problems with your AC or and you had to get an estimate.
- 42:58You were worried about the cost? Yeah, well, that's my number one
- 43:02thing no matter what. You know me well enough.
- 43:04Oh, and I was going to mention on the last podcast about cost,
- 43:07which is which I think is very interesting about life really
- 43:10quick is so when I was poor, when I was a poor DJ, let's say
- 43:15the car would the car would break down and it would cost you
- 43:182 to 300 dollars, 100 dollars, 8500 bucks, 600 bucks, right?
- 43:22But it was never, even though you were poor, it was never
- 43:24really anything that you couldn't handle, right?
- 43:26Right. So now, so now in life, I'm in
- 43:29the middle income bracket, right?
- 43:31So every repair is now instead of being that $400.00 or 500
- 43:34bucks, now it's 1500 to 2000 but it's never 10,000 or 20,000.
- 43:40See what I'm saying? So maybe.
- 43:42If you were richer, if you were in AI, believe I.
- 43:46Believe true. I believe if I was making
- 43:48$300,000, oh, it'd be $20,000. For some reason.
- 43:51It's just amazing how that works because I kind of feel like life
- 43:54never really gives you it. It it stresses.
- 43:57You out and give you more than you can handle but.
- 43:59Yeah, right. It can't.
- 44:00But it but it generally doesn't. It's usually OK.
- 44:03It's a, it's a road bump. It's a speed bump in life.
- 44:06So anyway, going back to Chad. That's his name.
- 44:09Chad. OK, we have a name.
- 44:13Oh, no. What?
- 44:14Oh, God. Chad.
- 44:15Chad do. So Chad comes and he has to go
- 44:18look, he has to go look that it done.
- 44:20He's like, hey, this thing's blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 44:22blah, blah, blah. And I need to get you estimates.
- 44:24Well, he was here and you and I were trying to do the podcast
- 44:27and, and, and it was Wednesday of last week.
- 44:29And so he's just here like, well, I can't do the podcast.
- 44:32And so finally he goes, he goes, well, here's your estimate.
- 44:35And it was what, 1500 bucks to do whatever you got to do.
- 44:37And he goes, well, I could just get that done today.
- 44:39And I said, hey, I'm trying. I got to do a podcast.
- 44:42Oh, so you put him off OK. I did, I said, so can you come
- 44:45back tomorrow? And she has like, oh, yeah.
- 44:46And then he and then that opened the door to, oh, you do a do a
- 44:50podcast and I'm like, well, yeah, I do it with my friend
- 44:52Michelle from Yakima. We used to work together in
- 44:54radio. Oh, you work in radio because
- 44:57that then you're always in that conversation and he's.
- 45:00Like, are you on the radio? Yeah, So what?
- 45:02So what radio station do you work for?
- 45:03I said I work at, I work at mornings on 102.7 KORD.
- 45:06He goes. Oh, he goes, he goes, oh, he
- 45:09goes, yeah, I don't listen to that station.
- 45:10I listen to the other guys, the 9494.9, the Wolf, the, the
- 45:14competition. I said, well, it's OK, Adam and
- 45:16Jen, I know him, they're friends.
- 45:18And he and he just, he just goes, Well, he goes.
- 45:21I just don't really care for the music you guys play compared to
- 45:23the, the older country that the Wolf plays or whatever.
- 45:26But so he's, he was a good guy and it was hilarious.
- 45:29But I but I find it amazing that our radio or anything or radio
- 45:35people have an opinion about that.
- 45:36Oh yes, like. They like whether they listen or
- 45:39don't listen or what they like. I mean, so if I said, hey, I
- 45:42work at McDonald's, he wouldn't go well, I like Arby's better.
- 45:45Like Burger King, Right? Like McDonald's?
- 45:47Right, Yeah, right. No one would ever say that to
- 45:49you. If you said you worked at
- 45:50Walmart or Kohl's or whatever, they wouldn't they wouldn't name
- 45:53the competition. But in radio, yeah, it's
- 45:55amazing, amazing how they do that.
- 45:57And so he goes and so I, I, he was talking to the technician on
- 46:00the phone and. And so he came back the next day
- 46:02and he goes, hey, can you leave me a Google review, blah, blah,
- 46:05blah, blah, blah. And I said, yeah, I'll give you
- 46:07a Google review, which I did. And I went on there and I left.
- 46:10It was 5 star. It was nice, five star review
- 46:13and said, hey, great job, blah, blah, blah.
- 46:14Then I saw him the next day and I said, hey, I left you a review
- 46:17for Google. And so thanks man.
- 46:18Yeah, he gets 25 bucks for it or whatever.
- 46:20And then I and then I had said to him, I said, hey, by the way,
- 46:22I didn't end the review with, but he doesn't listen to my
- 46:25radio station. I would have.
- 46:27I would have been petty like that.
- 46:29But I didn't. I told him I said I because I I
- 46:32didn't, I didn't lend it with, you know, and he doesn't even
- 46:34listen to my radio station and I'm giving a good.
- 46:36I mean, they're both country stations.
- 46:38Like for you to be like, you know, they'll play like it's
- 46:43like they're both country music like.
- 46:45It's not a lot of difference though.
- 46:47There isn't, but maybe a. Slight difference, but.
- 46:50They do play older. They play older.
- 46:52Yeah, they do. KXTDI don't know if you've
- 46:54listened to KXTD in a long time or listen to The Wolf in a long
- 46:57time. I.
- 46:57Don't listen to any normal radio I.
- 47:00Know what they shifted years ago go to what they call everything
- 47:03country. So they'll play Colin Ray,
- 47:07they'll play stuff like Tracy Lawrence that that and we're new
- 47:10countries. So it's one of those things
- 47:12where we do have a throwback Thursday, but even throwback
- 47:14Thursday is Tim McGraw something like that.
- 47:16I mean, it's not George Strait check.
- 47:18Yes, no. And so they're playing Diamond
- 47:22Rio. Meet me in the middle.
- 47:23I mean, I know exactly what they're doing.
- 47:25It's not like not a surprise to me, but it is old yeah, I mean,
- 47:29I could see and he's a dude. He's like, what was he 50 some
- 47:32years old probably. So again, we talk about it was
- 47:36it's built for him, right where where we're going to be, you
- 47:38know, young, probably 181834, you know.
- 47:44So anyway, with this interesting made me laugh.
- 47:46Which I think in one of our OG, like one of the four original
- 47:51podcasts when we first started, when we were talking about radio
- 47:54stuff, I think we talked about like how brutal radio listeners
- 47:58are. And they say it to your face.
- 48:02Like they legit come up to you at a remote and tell you that I
- 48:07don't like your voice, I don't like how you sound you your
- 48:10voice annoys me, blah blah blah blah.
- 48:13I you know, you get multiple stuff that they'll come up and
- 48:16tell you to your face. It's completely different now we
- 48:19have a social media and people just you see a tick tock video
- 48:22and you just stay something mean in the comments that this is
- 48:26this is to your face, like, oh, I I thought you'd be brunette,
- 48:29just stupid stuff like that, that you're like what?
- 48:33I I, it is ABS it just absolutely fascinating because
- 48:38it just is, it's just one of those those careers or one of
- 48:40those jobs where Megan will say she'll mention to anybody.
- 48:43Oh, and go, what does your husband do?
- 48:45Oh, he works on radio. Is he on the air?
- 48:46That's the first question. Then what stations?
- 48:49Yeah, yeah. And we know there's a lot of
- 48:51other people besides radio people that work at radio
- 48:53stations. There's engineers or
- 48:54salespeople. There's but.
- 48:57There's only that. Job but I always laughed.
- 49:00I just had to share that story about Chad.
- 49:02He definitely had an opinion about radio.
- 49:04So oh. Chad.
- 49:06Yeah. Oh, Chad.
- 49:07Well, maybe he'll listen to the podcast.
- 49:09Did you tell him the podcast name and.
- 49:11I I I should have? What was I thinking?
- 49:13I I I need I need a bit. I should have I should have name
- 49:16drop. Chad is not our target audience
- 49:18for the podcast either, so. Chad.
- 49:22Well, I think on that note, we could leave it there.
- 49:24That's I. Just want to do a little shout
- 49:26out to Chad and anybody else who was taking the time to listen
- 49:30those podcast and got this far. Thank you.
- 49:34That's it for today's episode of Rick and That.
- 49:36Michelle J, thanks for hanging out with us.
- 49:39If you laughed, rolled your eyes, or question our sanity
- 49:43even once, make sure you hit that follow button.
- 49:46Don't forget to rate and review the show.
- 49:49It helps people find our chaos. And hey, share it with a friend
- 49:53who could use a laugh. We'll be back with more sarcasm
- 49:56stories and questionable life advice next time.
- 50:01See ya.
