- 0:20Hey y 'all! Hope you're having a great week because
- 0:22I definitely am. I'm feeling a lot better. The
- 0:27sun is out. It's not warm, so I will not be outside
- 0:30much. I did go for a walk with a friend, and
- 0:33that was a vibe. Super fun. But really not enjoying
- 0:36the cold weather. Now, I have heard that the
- 0:39farmers are predicting that we will have a very
- 0:41cold winter, possibly very snowy winter in North
- 0:44Kakalaki, and honestly, they've never been wrong,
- 0:47so I'm not looking forward to it. I am, however,
- 0:51looking forward to, you know... I might not love
- 0:55the cold weather, but it does kind of set the
- 0:57vibes for the holidays. You know, putting on
- 1:00your layers, choosing the outfits for those who
- 1:03have time and get to do that. It's just waking
- 1:06up in the morning like I have not this week been
- 1:08able to go to the gym at 6 a .m. because it's
- 1:10so cold and it's so dark and I wake up at like
- 1:145 30 and I think I should really get up and go.
- 1:17But then I really don't want to get out of bed
- 1:19and put on my leggings or multiple layers and
- 1:22drive in the dark to the gym to then leave the
- 1:24gym with either the sun barely crisping over
- 1:27the horizon or not crisping over the horizon
- 1:31at all and it still be dark outside. Like it's
- 1:33not fun. Anyways, now that's definitely not what's
- 1:36out, but that's just my complaint about the cold
- 1:38weather and the vibes it's giving. Yeah. So what
- 1:44have I been up to? Well, we are supposed to go
- 1:48see Zootopia, me and my brother and my roommate.
- 1:51So looking forward to that, because I loved the
- 1:53first Zootopia. I don't know about y 'all, but
- 1:55I vibed with it. Like it's one of my favorites
- 1:58for sure out of the most recent cartoons. I say
- 2:00recent, it came out in like 2016, I think like
- 2:03a long time ago, but it's still, it's still one
- 2:07of my, like I would rewatch it. So we're going
- 2:10to see the second one. um i know i need to get
- 2:12back to the gym i'm just not feeling it in the
- 2:14cold weather i'm really not also the salon has
- 2:17been strangely empty for the holidays it's been
- 2:20really weird i've gotten to like chill out a
- 2:23little bit more kind of well no everyone's still
- 2:25just as talkative but i've gone to chill it a
- 2:28little bit more yeah um haven't done any holiday
- 2:33shopping yet and I am driving to Raleigh today.
- 2:39I'm gonna go hang out with my friend Rachel and
- 2:42I told my little niece that I would take her
- 2:44to ice cream or something via my cousin -in -law
- 2:48kind of pushing that so we're gonna do that.
- 2:50We're gonna go get ice cream hopefully. I need
- 2:52to text her mom and actually confirm that. And
- 2:56I'm gonna try to be productive with my days off.
- 2:59But yeah, I'm going to Raleigh for like the hundredth
- 3:01time. I should text my sister too and see if
- 3:03I should stop by or can stop by. Yeah, anyways,
- 3:07so going to Raleigh, doing all the things, gonna
- 3:10hang out with my friends because she got engaged
- 3:13like six weeks ago, I guess now, and I haven't
- 3:16gotten to see her in person, so I cannot wait
- 3:18to see her in that rock on her hand. and just
- 3:22have all the girly conversations because I love
- 3:25hearing about a proposal. I might be single,
- 3:28but I really do love hearing about my friend's
- 3:30proposal. So I'm pumped. I'm excited to see her
- 3:33and get to go to like one of my OG coffee shops
- 3:36in Raleigh. Like such a vibe. Haven't been there
- 3:40in a while. So I'm excited to just hang out with
- 3:42her, have quality time and do all the things.
- 3:46Okay. What is in? Let's literally talk about
- 3:49what's in. Still the holiday season. Have I done
- 3:51my Christmas shopping? No. I have not been productive
- 3:54at all. But the holiday season is in. The Christmas
- 3:57movies, hot chocolate, making cookies, Christmas
- 4:02parties, all the things. So fun. I'm really looking
- 4:05forward to it. What is out is long distant friendships
- 4:10because I just got off of the phone with Clara.
- 4:13And I have not talked to her I think since like
- 4:16October 8th. That's a long time y 'all, we're
- 4:19in December. Okay? Serena and I do a little bit
- 4:23better at talking with each other and not by
- 4:26much. We always say like, oh, are you free on
- 4:28this day? Okay. Y 'all, anyone who has a long
- 4:31distance friend or best friend will relate to
- 4:34this. You will text each other and be like, are
- 4:36you free Tuesday night? Yes. Okay. Let's talk.
- 4:39Then you try to talk or you forget you're supposed
- 4:41to talk. Or for example, one time I was headed
- 4:43into the movies and she called me and I was like,
- 4:45yo, I totally forgot that we were going to do
- 4:48a phone call tonight. I bought movie tickets
- 4:50to go see Wicked 2. Can I call you another day?
- 4:54Then there's times that like you miss each other's
- 4:56phone calls or you call and then something comes
- 4:58up And it's like hey, I'll call you right back,
- 4:59and then you never do um So long distance friendships
- 5:03are hard They're so hard, and you feel you're
- 5:06just keeping up via like social media, but then
- 5:08when you see each other It's like nothing ever
- 5:10changed So what is out is long distance friendships.
- 5:13They're just not fun. I don't enjoy them, and
- 5:16I miss my people I really really do Serena wants
- 5:19me to move to Florida and You hear the hesitancy
- 5:25in my voice every time I think of Florida I just
- 5:27think of that meme like the Florida man meme
- 5:29And I don't want to be associated with that and
- 5:31I'm probably the only person who associates Florida
- 5:34with that meme So it's just a me thing, but I
- 5:38really do every time I think about Florida I
- 5:40think of the Florida man meme and I don't want
- 5:42to tell people like yeah I live in Florida and
- 5:45then they're like, oh, you know, you know and
- 5:47bring up the latest thing that they've heard
- 5:48about Florida people I don't want to be associated
- 5:50with that. I say that but I have like some of
- 5:53my favorite people live in Florida um yeah anyways
- 5:56so and wait that's all that's out that's all
- 6:02i have i was about to get totally sidetracked
- 6:04on you and start talking about trips going into
- 6:06the new year but i'm not going to do that um
- 6:11anyways that's all i have for what's out you
- 6:15heard my what's in i don't know if there's anything
- 6:17else to catch you up on in my life except we're
- 6:20thinking about trying hinge again That would
- 6:22be crazy though. That is literally the definition
- 6:24of insanity is doing the same thing over and
- 6:27over again expecting a different outcome But
- 6:29I really am considering it Yeah, anyways, oh
- 6:34and I was talking to the client about How being
- 6:37single you really need like single girlfriends
- 6:38to hang out with and right now pretty much none
- 6:41of my friends are single like not a single one
- 6:44and so I really need to make friends that are
- 6:47single because It's getting lonely out here It's
- 6:51getting really lonely out here to like find people
- 6:53to spend time with and hang out with and now
- 6:55on top of all my friends moving Which is what
- 6:59I did to fill my time with was like hang out
- 7:01with my peeps. It's hard. Yeah, so If you live
- 7:06in Wilmington, I want to be best friends. I hit
- 7:09me up Yeah, anyway, so being single is great
- 7:13except for the fact that all my friends are in
- 7:16relationships and there's no one to hang out
- 7:18with Yeah Oh, and starting a book club. What
- 7:23else is in is starting a book club in January.
- 7:25Super excited for it. It's going to be fun. Also,
- 7:29totally forgot to mention, we just had our final
- 7:32Bible study semester dinner on Wednesday night
- 7:35and it was so fun. We did a soup theme where
- 7:39we had like four or five different types of soup.
- 7:42And one girl made cornbread and bought like those
- 7:45oyster crackers. We just ate our soup hung out
- 7:48and then we made these little charm things that
- 7:50go on your Bible and it's been viral So y 'all
- 7:52have probably seen it. It's all over social media
- 7:54so we did that and it was such a fun craft and
- 7:57just good conversation and I just am really thankful
- 8:00for this group of girls. I love my Bible study
- 8:03group. They're really good Solid people to be
- 8:07around and have the conversation. So yeah, we
- 8:09finished out the year We won't be meeting again
- 8:12till January, but it was awesome Okay, I have
- 8:16taken y 'all on a whirlwind of subjects in Rabbit
- 8:20Trails, so let's close this segment out and dive
- 8:25into the episode. So, we left off knowing Solomon
- 8:38was the son of David. Solomon is probably best
- 8:41known for wisdom. a gift he so humbly asked of
- 8:46from God. The second thing he's most known for
- 8:49is using that wisdom to identify a baby's true
- 8:52mother and three for keeping the peace. No, he
- 8:57did not begin his reign easy peasy lemon squeezy.
- 9:01He had to navigate a real powerful struggle with
- 9:04his half -brother whose name I won't even try
- 9:08to pronounce. Once David was like too old to
- 9:11rule one of his sons decided it was his job to
- 9:14take over the family business. He decided to
- 9:17throw himself a whole party and invited everyone
- 9:20except, believe it or not, Solomon and his mom.
- 9:23Solomon's mama was not having that, so she went
- 9:26to David and demanded he set it straight. Nathan
- 9:29the prophet comes in to the scene and says some
- 9:33things also. Basically, David... does as was
- 9:37requested and lets everyone know that Solomon
- 9:39is going to be king and is king now. Now listen.
- 9:43While this is all happening, the other son is
- 9:45still having his party and finds out the bad
- 9:48news while living it up celebrating himself.
- 9:51Honestly, that's low key so embarrassing for
- 9:53him. I guess this is why we shouldn't make assumptions.
- 9:57Okay, the party goers find all this out, kind
- 10:02of freak out, and leave the party. Honestly though,
- 10:05like what a buzzkill the other brother is like,
- 10:07holy crap Solomon is going to kill me and then
- 10:10proceeds to beg for his life from the king aka
- 10:14Solomon and in chapter 1 of first Kings and verse
- 10:1752 Solomon says if he will show himself a worthy
- 10:20man being his brother Not one of his hair shall
- 10:24fall from it from the not one of his hair shall
- 10:28fall to the earth But if wickedness wickedness
- 10:31is found in him, he shall die and then his brother
- 10:35goes to the head count and moves on with his
- 10:37life for a while. Solomon's butt has barely sat
- 10:41on that throne and we see him already greeting
- 10:44peace. Before his father David dies, David tells
- 10:47him in chapters two, verses three and four to
- 10:50keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking
- 10:53in his ways and keeping his statues, his commandments,
- 10:55his rules, and his testimonies. as it is written
- 10:59in the law of Moses, though you may prosper in
- 11:01all that you do, and wherever you turn, that
- 11:06the Lord may establish his word that he has spoken
- 11:09concerning me, saying, If your sons pay close
- 11:12attention to their way, to walk before me in
- 11:14faithfulness, with all their heart and with all
- 11:17their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne
- 11:20of Israel. And that's just what he does. In chapter
- 11:23three, he marries Pharaoh's daughter to create
- 11:25an alliance in peace between Egypt and Israel.
- 11:29He's still walking with God and making sacrifices
- 11:31to God in his dream is where God meets him. This
- 11:36is where God granted is granting the famous request
- 11:39of wisdom. Really though, Solomon asked for discernment
- 11:43to know the difference of good and evil and that
- 11:45he wanted to govern God's people well and God
- 11:48really liked this so he gave it to him and more.
- 11:51Solomon asked this because he wanted to do well
- 11:54not for himself but it's very clearly clearly
- 11:57put that he um but that he wanted to do this
- 12:01for others and God saw his heart and motivation
- 12:05behind the request and God says in chapters 3
- 12:08verse 11 through 4 Because you have asked this
- 12:12and have not asked for yourself a long life or
- 12:16riches or the life of your enemies But have asked
- 12:19for yourself understanding to discern what is
- 12:21right behold I now do according to your word
- 12:25behold I give you I give you a wise and discerning
- 12:29mind so that none like you has been seen and
- 12:32none shall ever rise after you. I give you also
- 12:36what you have not asked, both riches and honor,
- 12:39so that no other king shall compare with you
- 12:42all your days. And if you will walk in my ways,
- 12:46keep my statues and my commandments as your father
- 12:48David walked, then I will lengthen your days.
- 12:51Okay. Because of all of this, all of Judah and
- 12:56Israel lived in peace and safety and are said
- 12:59to have multiplied like the sands of the sea,
- 13:02which should sound familiar to you. People ended
- 13:04up coming from all over to hear his wisdom. Solomon
- 13:08also wrote thousands of Psalms and Proverbs.
- 13:11Four years into his established reign, he decided
- 13:15it was time to build God a temple. And that is
- 13:18just what he did. It might have taken seven years
- 13:20to do it, but he did it, and he did it well in
- 13:23the eyes of God. After he finished decorating
- 13:25the temple, he had all the priests and leaders
- 13:28bring the ark out of Zion, which was the city
- 13:30of David, to the temple, which was in Jerusalem.
- 13:34In chapter 9, verses 3 through 7, God said to
- 13:38Solomon, I have heard your prayer and your plea,
- 13:42which you have made before me. I have concentrated
- 13:44this house that you have built by putting my
- 13:47name there forever. My eyes and my heart will
- 13:50be there for all time And as for you if you walk
- 13:54if you will walk before me as David your father
- 13:56walked with integrity of heart and uprightness
- 13:59Doing according to all that I have commanded
- 14:01you and keeping my statutes and my rules Then
- 14:04I will establish your royal throne over Israel
- 14:06forever as I promised David your father saying
- 14:09you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel
- 14:12but Now this verse is important, but If you turn
- 14:17aside from following me, you, or your children,
- 14:21and do not keep my commandments and my statues
- 14:24that I have set before you, but go and serve
- 14:27other gods and worship them, then I will cut
- 14:30off Israel from the land that I have given them,
- 14:33and the house that I have consecrated for my
- 14:35name I will cast out of my sight, and Israel
- 14:37will become a proverb and a byword among all
- 14:40people. After this promise slash warning from
- 14:43God, Solomon continues on with his life and his
- 14:46wisdom. Even the Queen of Sheba sought him out
- 14:49to test him and was left super impressed by him.
- 14:53Y 'all, this man became so wealthy, like the
- 14:56man that owns Amazon type of wealthy, or maybe
- 14:59more so than that. Anyways, in chapter 11, we
- 15:02see his fall though. He allows the very thing
- 15:05that God warned him about to take him out. He
- 15:08married so many women and had so many mistresses.
- 15:11He specifically fell in love with women from
- 15:14the very nations God told him to stay the heck
- 15:16away from and Those women brought their idols
- 15:20with them. Also so ironic because in his family
- 15:23line His many greats grandfather Jacob his wife
- 15:27did the same thing bringing her idols from her
- 15:30father's house into his tents Anyways, let's
- 15:33get back on track. It's just always interesting
- 15:35how history continues to repeat itself Okay,
- 15:39so with Solomon, when he got old, his wife's
- 15:42actually turned his heart from God and towards
- 15:44their idols. So Solomon did what was evil in
- 15:47the sight and honestly, probably sigh of the
- 15:51Lord. He built temples for his wife's idols and
- 15:54allowed them to make sacrifices to them. And
- 15:56so God raised an adversary against him and that
- 15:59adversary coming from the house they called Edom.
- 16:03And what we know Edom is from is from the line
- 16:06of Esau, aka Jacob in Esau. But God said he would
- 16:10leave one tribe, not for the sake of Solomon,
- 16:13but for the sake of David. But even though Solomon
- 16:17turned his eyes and his heart from God and gave
- 16:19it to things of the world, God said he would
- 16:22still leave one tribe, not for the sake of Solomon
- 16:25though, but for the sake of how faithful David
- 16:28was, his father. So who was Solomon? He was the
- 16:32son of David. the King of Peace. He had divine
- 16:35favor and blessing from God. He started off strong
- 16:38wanting to honor God through his people and with
- 16:40the temple. He was also known for his wisdom,
- 16:43judgment, wealth, and power. But his downfall
- 16:46was the very thing God bluntly warned him about,
- 16:49that being idols. He allowed idols to sneak up
- 16:53on him and into his heart after running so fervently
- 16:56after God and wanting to honor him. He didn't
- 16:59change his way. He didn't show repentance the
- 17:02way his father David did, and for that it affected
- 17:05many generations down the line. But God still
- 17:08gave him a branch in the family so that God could
- 17:11keep his promises to his servants. Through Solomon's
- 17:14life, we can see you can live correctly and do
- 17:17everything right for most of your life, but that
- 17:20you have to be aware of what your heart and attention
- 17:22is focused on. If you're not careful, idols and
- 17:26sin will sneak up into your life so discreetly
- 17:29that you don't even notice. But also, through
- 17:32his life, we see that even though he didn't show
- 17:35repentance, we can, and that God is faithful
- 17:39and falls through on his promises even when we
- 17:42don't. Thanks so much for listening to the living
