- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes seven point fifteen and seven sixteen,
- 0:15Speaker 1: The Manly Duel, Signor's Elegy of Love and Stardust of Death,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Diamonte Storm of Vicious Attacks. I'll give you guys three
- 0:25Speaker 1: guesses which of these I am more interested in? In
- 0:30Speaker 1: this episode, Florian is here to talk with me about
- 0:35Speaker 1: my second favorite character, first favorite. It's a real to
- 0:38Speaker 1: toss up at this point. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome
- 1:01Speaker 1: to the show everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Hello, and I'm Flori Yay.
- 1:08Speaker 1: So there's a full disclosure. I was supposed to watch
- 1:10Speaker 1: three episodes and I only watched two, which I have
- 1:13Speaker 1: done on Lives of Florine in the past, and he
- 1:15Speaker 1: has been a great sport about me not being super
- 1:19Speaker 1: profession sorry about it, but you know, he has assured
- 1:25Speaker 1: me that he's really here for the first two mostly,
- 1:27Speaker 1: so we're gonna go with that.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I mean, my guess is the of those two storylines
- 1:34Speaker 2: are more interested in Sanuel Pink's.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Just drop.
- 1:39Speaker 2: That's by the way.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Yes, you guys, so I posted on Instagram. Uh isn't
- 1:50Speaker 1: it nice? It's a very rainy day, we brought the
- 1:55Speaker 1: dogs to doggie daycare, so having a chill morning, I
- 1:59Speaker 1: made myself a pot of tea. I have my little
- 2:02Speaker 1: candle here, and I watched the episode and it was like,
- 2:05Speaker 1: just so nice. So you guys can see it. I
- 2:07Speaker 1: post a little video of it and I got myself
- 2:11Speaker 1: all settled and was like, oh, this is ideal. And
- 2:14Speaker 1: then I started the episode and it's like send your
- 2:16Speaker 1: Pink story and I was like, oh my god, this
- 2:19Speaker 1: is the best day. Everything is so good right now.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So did you, like, I don't remember how the timing
- 2:30Speaker 1: worked out. Did you book a live before I had
- 2:35Speaker 1: met sendor Pink, assuming that I would like him, or
- 2:40Speaker 1: did you book this after I met him and loved him.
- 2:44Speaker 2: It was the day off, but before it was like
- 2:49Speaker 2: the day that you would meet him and talk about
- 2:52Speaker 2: it on the podcast. I booked the I don't want
- 2:57Speaker 2: to be for today and then I heard your reaction
- 3:00Speaker 2: to him, and I was like, I made the right decision.
- 3:03Speaker 1: It was like, Oh, that's amazing. How weird that it
- 3:08Speaker 1: was even the same day. That's awesome. I love it
- 3:11Speaker 1: so much.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I remember while booking it, I was like, I just
- 3:15Speaker 2: hope that she will like him.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, because that would have been a drag if I
- 3:19Speaker 1: was like, what the fuck is this? So you are
- 3:23Speaker 1: a big fan of his, I take it as well.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yes, I mean he is just one piece encapsulated. I
- 3:32Speaker 2: feel like if if you had somebody who is like
- 3:37Speaker 2: I never ever watch one piece or what is this about?
- 3:41Speaker 2: I feel like maybe with a little bit background explanation,
- 3:46Speaker 2: you could show them these two episodes and be like, basically,
- 3:51Speaker 2: what you get here you get throughout the whole show.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I feel I feel like you'd be over promising, to
- 3:58Speaker 1: be honest, because it's just such top tier, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 1: like it's not you know, I just it's so so.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I just want to say, like, the way that we're
- 4:14Speaker 1: getting backstory on so many of the executives is very unexpected.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I really didn't think that we were going to find
- 4:21Speaker 1: out as much about them as we have, and I
- 4:25Speaker 1: wouldn't have expected to care either, and not all of
- 4:29Speaker 1: them obviously, like we weren't getting back I hope we
- 4:33Speaker 1: don't get like a backstory about Diamante or something, because
- 4:36Speaker 1: it's fucking who cares, Although that might be the very
- 4:39Speaker 1: next episode and I'll be like, but it just is.
- 4:46Speaker 1: It goes to show that even though sometimes I think
- 4:51Speaker 1: the issue when I don't like something in One Piece
- 4:54Speaker 1: is that it's trying to do too much that's not
- 4:56Speaker 1: always necessary the case, like, sometimes it does so much
- 5:00Speaker 1: and it still manages to pull it off. And this
- 5:02Speaker 1: is a time where it just really it's such a
- 5:05Speaker 1: perfect matchup to between him and Frankie in particular, and
- 5:12Speaker 1: I just everything about the way the fight goes and
- 5:18Speaker 1: the way like what we find out, because I as
- 5:23Speaker 1: much as I was baffled at him in a diaper
- 5:26Speaker 1: and a baby bonnet, as much as I didn't like understand,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I also was willing to just go with it because
- 5:36Speaker 1: the people in One Piece dressed like maniacs. Absolutely so fine, sure,
- 5:42Speaker 1: whatever you know. And then to find out that there
- 5:44Speaker 1: is like a specific reason about it and that he
- 5:49Speaker 1: used to be like a really really sharp dresser. Actually
- 5:55Speaker 1: that part cracked me up. Especially Oh yeah, definitely. Seraphim
- 6:05Speaker 1: is in the chat and says, the moment you started
- 6:08Speaker 1: loving send your pink. Everybody knew this backstort be awesome.
- 6:10Speaker 1: You get a reaction. The assumption is if you love
- 6:12Speaker 1: Pink before, this just takes it to a new level.
- 6:14Speaker 1: If you hate him, this turns it all around. The
- 6:16Speaker 1: fact ODA can make you feel this much and this
- 6:18Speaker 1: sad about a grown man who dresses like a baby.
- 6:20Speaker 1: There's nothing he can't too. It's so like it's so
- 6:25Speaker 1: messed up, though, seraphim that you say that, because when
- 6:29Speaker 1: you say, like, feel this sad, I honestly didn't feel sad,
- 6:36Speaker 1: even though it is a sad story. I was too
- 6:41Speaker 1: delighted with the like the not the content itself, but
- 6:47Speaker 1: like that there was an explanation that I barely even
- 6:52Speaker 1: really had time to feel sad because I was just
- 6:56Speaker 1: so like, this is incredible the whole time, you know
- 6:59Speaker 1: what I mean. So okay, okay, okay, Let's start from
- 7:04Speaker 1: the beginning of the Manly Duel, which there is a
- 7:13Speaker 1: reel going around on Instagram that's a bunch of outtakes
- 7:17Speaker 1: from the Key and Peel Show. Have you ever watched
- 7:19Speaker 1: Ken Peel? Okay, it's a comedy sketch show with two
- 7:26Speaker 1: black men, one of whom went on to be a
- 7:28Speaker 1: director and he did Get Out, which became pretty famous.
- 7:35Speaker 1: But they did a sketch show for a while that
- 7:37Speaker 1: was really good. And there are outtakes and one of
- 7:40Speaker 1: them they're like face to face, like threatening each other,
- 7:43Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden they just kiss and
- 7:46Speaker 1: they both start laughing. But they were too close, like
- 7:48Speaker 1: they couldn't ignore the fact that, like, and I did
- 7:51Speaker 1: have a couple moments with him and Frankie where I
- 7:55Speaker 1: was like, just kiss, just do it, guys, just go ahead,
- 7:58Speaker 1: just do.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It now, kiss now, kiss.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So the let's see where does this open? Oh? Right,
- 8:09Speaker 1: first we open with fucking Bellamy. Still I am sick
- 8:13Speaker 1: of this man. Let's just saying, I ah why, I.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Mean, I'm here, we can talk about it. I honestly
- 8:26Speaker 2: love it that you give so much grace to Glo.
- 8:30Speaker 2: When I say grace, I don't. I'm just going to
- 8:34Speaker 2: be honest. I think I said it twice. Now He's
- 8:39Speaker 2: not I don't care about him. He's likely from a
- 8:45Speaker 2: writing point of view, I actually see that it's interesting
- 8:50Speaker 2: to bring him back, and you know, and I feel
- 8:56Speaker 2: like you also said multiple times that you find it
- 8:59Speaker 2: interesting and like there's something there and I just did
- 9:05Speaker 2: not see that because I don't like the character. If
- 9:08Speaker 2: that means, you know, I'll.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Be honest, like, I think that it was interesting much
- 9:13Speaker 1: more in concept than it has turned out to be.
- 9:15Speaker 1: An execution. M. You're right, like, as a character, he
- 9:21Speaker 1: is kind of whatever.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't yeah, I just don't care about him.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Like there's not even like something that I hate him
- 9:30Speaker 2: or anything. It's just like, well, okay.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I definitely get that. It's it's the thing
- 9:39Speaker 1: that I enjoyed so much was that it felt at
- 9:43Speaker 1: first like, Okay, this guy who way back when, I
- 9:47Speaker 1: think I even commented when Bellamy first showed up as
- 9:50Speaker 1: a villain that he had the most vanilla design out
- 9:57Speaker 1: of any of the villains we had met so far.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Everybody else was like so intense with the costume or
- 10:03Speaker 1: really extreme weird bodies with like you know, very long
- 10:07Speaker 1: noses or huge hair or something, and he was just
- 10:10Speaker 1: a really like mid regular guy except for his weird
- 10:14Speaker 1: tongue thing. So right out of the gate, I was
- 10:19Speaker 1: sort of like, why is this guy so much more
- 10:22Speaker 1: boring than everybody else has been? Then he pops back
- 10:25Speaker 1: up at the coliseum and there's this whole thing with
- 10:27Speaker 1: him changing his mindset on things, and I'm like, oh, well,
- 10:32Speaker 1: maybe that's it is that we're going to have met
- 10:35Speaker 1: him as a boring guy. And then he starts to
- 10:39Speaker 1: grow more interesting and then we reached this point where
- 10:44Speaker 1: he hasn't grown more interesting at all. He's still hanging
- 10:47Speaker 1: on to the sad little scrap that he was hanging
- 10:51Speaker 1: on to way back when, which isn't. Like I have
- 10:57Speaker 1: said already, I feel like there are people who are
- 11:00Speaker 1: like this. So it doesn't feel like bad writing exactly
- 11:04Speaker 1: in terms of a character, but it just feels like
- 11:07Speaker 1: wasted potential to have done something more interesting with him.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I guess. So I can just say that even if
- 11:18Speaker 2: it would be a great story, I didn't know. No,
- 11:22Speaker 2: I just don't like that you talked about like favorite
- 11:27Speaker 2: characters in the show, like he is definitely my least
- 11:31Speaker 2: favorite ones where I'm just like and should make.
- 11:34Speaker 1: A list of like favorites and these favorites.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's just how the diser sometimes, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 2: you see a character or something and you're just like,
- 11:44Speaker 2: I don't I just don't like you.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It happens, It happens. So, yeah, we have the checking
- 11:55Speaker 1: in on that battle, but nothing really changes with that,
- 11:58Speaker 1: and then we go over to the Princess and Leo
- 12:05Speaker 1: and Cub and this is so the Princess is trying
- 12:12Speaker 1: to mac on Leo, and Leo is not picking up
- 12:16Speaker 1: what she is putting down at all. No, she wants
- 12:20Speaker 1: him to carry her because she wants to feel his
- 12:24Speaker 1: strong arms around her and feel cozied up against his body.
- 12:28Speaker 1: And he's just like, get the fuck up, Oh gross, walk,
- 12:34Speaker 1: you are so pitiful. Stop being a baby. And I
- 12:37Speaker 1: was like Jesus Christ.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Dude, Yeah, I mean he says you have healing powers,
- 12:45Speaker 2: so like even if you yeah.
- 12:49Speaker 1: It's you know what, that's fair on his part, Like
- 12:54Speaker 1: if you are going to try and like get into
- 12:59Speaker 1: somebody's arms and you know that you have healing powers,
- 13:03Speaker 1: talking about how you have an injury really shouldn't be
- 13:06Speaker 1: the way that you approach it. She really should have
- 13:08Speaker 1: come up with something better than that, maybe just saying
- 13:11Speaker 1: like I'm so scared I needed comfort or something, you know,
- 13:15Speaker 1: Like I don't know how he'd react to that, though
- 13:18Speaker 1: I'm trying to give your dating advice.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I mean it is like a cute I
- 13:24Speaker 2: find it, Like in the end problem Light, it's cute
- 13:27Speaker 2: between those two much. It is literally like I don't know,
- 13:31Speaker 2: they're made for each other.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I guess, yeah, I can't help too, but wonder like
- 13:37Speaker 1: as a woman who has been called difficult upon occasion.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I have enjoyed, especially the men who call me out
- 13:48Speaker 1: on being difficult sometimes because I have often been able
- 13:54Speaker 1: to just sort of get my way due to being
- 13:57Speaker 1: cute and very charming. And when there's a dude who
- 14:03Speaker 1: isn't caught up in that and it's just like you're
- 14:07Speaker 1: being kind of a bitch, I can't help but be like,
- 14:10Speaker 1: oh wow, so it's not just about you trying to
- 14:15Speaker 1: say whatever I want to hear so you can try
- 14:16Speaker 1: and get my pants. So maybe that's part of it
- 14:19Speaker 1: for her with Leo, is the fact that, like, he
- 14:22Speaker 1: isn't just saying whatever she wants to hear because she's
- 14:26Speaker 1: the princess and she's so cute. The fact that he
- 14:29Speaker 1: is telling her to get the fuck up on her
- 14:32Speaker 1: own two feet, maybe that's part of the draw for her.
- 14:38Speaker 1: That's my head canon, is that she likes the fact
- 14:41Speaker 1: that he calls her out. I'm going with it. We're
- 14:45Speaker 1: gonna find out some whole thing later and it's going
- 14:47Speaker 1: to be like nothing like what I said. Oh well,
- 14:49Speaker 1: I stand by it, so let's see. Oh right. Eventually
- 14:59Speaker 1: she does jump on his back and he's yelling at
- 15:03Speaker 1: her about how she's selfish and despicable and mean spirited.
- 15:08Speaker 1: And she's literally just laying her face against his back
- 15:14Speaker 1: with tears in her eyes, saying his back feels nice,
- 15:19Speaker 1: and Cub is looking down at her, thinking, our princess
- 15:23Speaker 1: is just the sweetest. And I did really love the
- 15:28Speaker 1: fact that he can see what's happening here, and yet
- 15:33Speaker 1: he never really seems to want to be like Leo, buddy,
- 15:38Speaker 1: she's fucking flirting with you? What is wrong with you?
- 15:40Speaker 1: Like he just watches from the sidelines, going this idiot,
- 15:44Speaker 1: but he doesn't try and like explain to him what's happening.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I can't decide if that's like a good move or not.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Would you tell your friend?
- 15:58Speaker 2: I mean, like when it is the thing that you
- 16:00Speaker 2: said before, of like because Leo is this way with
- 16:06Speaker 2: her that's kind of like what makes it interesting or
- 16:10Speaker 2: special or like gives them the connection. So if by
- 16:13Speaker 2: you pointing it out, you made might destroy it or
- 16:17Speaker 2: change it?
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, hmm, it would.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Kind of depend on that.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I guess, yeah, I guess it. Wonders it depends on
- 16:28Speaker 1: I wonder whether or not Cubb thinks the same thing
- 16:33Speaker 1: that I do about what it is that she even
- 16:36Speaker 1: likes about Leo. There are also times where I feel
- 16:42Speaker 1: like if you haven't figured it out, when a person
- 16:44Speaker 1: is being this obvious, me telling you, I don't even
- 16:49Speaker 1: know that you would believe me because you should have
- 16:52Speaker 1: been able to tell by yourself. So now it's just
- 16:55Speaker 1: a matter of like, are you burying your head in
- 16:58Speaker 1: the sand on purpose? Are you ignoring ring this? Like
- 17:01Speaker 1: I don't know, but anyway, So we then go over
- 17:08Speaker 1: to Jiola and she is embarrassed about the fact that
- 17:14Speaker 1: the princess got away, and she's like, I really don't
- 17:19Speaker 1: want to tell the young master that I fucked up
- 17:21Speaker 1: as bad. But he said at one point that Manchuri's
- 17:27Speaker 1: power has an ultimate ability that he thought he could
- 17:31Speaker 1: use if something happened to the Smile Factory. If she
- 17:34Speaker 1: traded her life to call forth that forbidden power, she
- 17:39Speaker 1: could restore it to its glory. Without that failsafe, we
- 17:44Speaker 1: could be in trouble. And she crawls toward the transponder
- 17:52Speaker 1: snail and just reached out for it, and she collapses
- 17:56Speaker 1: before she manages to get there. I am so curious
- 18:02Speaker 1: because if I didn't already know that Law had eaten
- 18:07Speaker 1: a fruit, which when you sacrifice yourself gram somebody else's
- 18:11Speaker 1: eternal life. I would assume that's what Manacherie's power did.
- 18:21Speaker 1: But we already have one of those, so I figure
- 18:23Speaker 1: we're not doing that twice. But because like she can
- 18:31Speaker 1: restore the smile factory, that's the part that keeps tripping
- 18:34Speaker 1: me up. Her ability in healing seems to only work
- 18:39Speaker 1: on like human bodies. Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe it works
- 18:43Speaker 1: two items as well. Can she cry on a cracked
- 18:47Speaker 1: vase and the vase is just whole again? Like, I
- 18:52Speaker 1: don't really know how far this extends. I just made
- 18:54Speaker 1: an assumption. So her saying that she could restore the
- 18:57Speaker 1: smile factory, I'm just like, what, So I don't know
- 19:02Speaker 1: what to make of this. You can't tell me anything.
- 19:06Speaker 2: No, I cannot tell you. We don't know. But but
- 19:10Speaker 2: I mean, I I think the guests that we already
- 19:14Speaker 2: have one that extends your life, that it would be
- 19:18Speaker 2: like two times the same thing would be kind of
- 19:21Speaker 2: boring or like kind of like So I think your guests,
- 19:25Speaker 2: or like your theory sounds howld I say that yeah, legit, yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 2: shuret that out there. No, it's good, like I wanted
- 19:41Speaker 2: to say, right, but it is not valid valid. That's
- 19:47Speaker 2: also a good one. Thank you. English is not my
- 19:51Speaker 2: first language. I like to say it.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Every time you say that, though, I'm always just like,
- 19:56Speaker 1: oh yeah, because you just are very very good at English,
- 20:01Speaker 1: so I don't remember, even with your accent, until you
- 20:05Speaker 1: have one of these little moments, and then I'm just like, deeply,
- 20:09Speaker 1: deeply ashamed at my lack of proficiency in any I
- 20:14Speaker 1: really should have learned something.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Do you have like duo lingo something?
- 20:20Speaker 1: Oh, I definitely do. Do I retain anything? No, not
- 20:25Speaker 1: a drop. I used to be able to speak Spanish
- 20:27Speaker 1: pretty well for a period in my life and it's gone,
- 20:33Speaker 1: my friend, like just fragged. My system has just erased
- 20:39Speaker 1: it from the hard drive and made room only for
- 20:42Speaker 1: like facts about Sookie Stackhouse. So that's where I'm at.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I My French is also like I had
- 20:50Speaker 2: French in school, but ever leaving school, I didn't need
- 20:55Speaker 2: it to use it, so no, no way.
- 20:59Speaker 1: So how many languages do you have then?
- 21:03Speaker 2: German and English? I would say a little bit.
- 21:08Speaker 1: You have a little French.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not able to speak it really, maybe a
- 21:15Speaker 2: little bit understanding, but reading and writing, no chance. I'm okay, Yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 2: I've heard that you talked about that. Sean was like
- 21:27Speaker 2: German like on doing that, yeah, And I was always like,
- 21:32Speaker 2: I would really love to hear her talk German, but
- 21:35Speaker 2: I don't know if you can get her to talk
- 21:37Speaker 2: on the podcast.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I like, I feel like I tried once and I
- 21:42Speaker 1: can't remember. It might have been a spoil on sober
- 21:45Speaker 1: or something, but she hasn't been doing that because her
- 21:50Speaker 1: husband has been really, really sick, so she has fallen
- 21:54Speaker 1: off of her practice. And I know I haven't heard
- 21:58Speaker 1: her talk about it in a while, but I don't
- 22:01Speaker 1: remember what it was. But there was something specific that
- 22:04Speaker 1: she that caused her to want to learn German in particular.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I wish I could remember what it was, because yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 1: when she told me that's what she was learning, I
- 22:13Speaker 1: was like, really okay, And yeah, she was like on
- 22:19Speaker 1: the uh Facebook typing in German with another German listener
- 22:26Speaker 1: in comments. At one point they were like going back
- 22:29Speaker 1: and forth and it was really fun, like the listener
- 22:33Speaker 1: was just like oh shit. But I've never heard her
- 22:37Speaker 1: actually speak it out loud. So anyway, I.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Will be interested for if you ever hear this.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I'll try and to get it set up so that
- 22:49Speaker 1: we can go to Germany at one point, so she
- 22:51Speaker 1: feels real pressure to learn because I'm not going to learn,
- 22:54Speaker 1: so she'll have to speak for me. Also, all right,
- 23:01Speaker 1: back in the episode, we go back to Frankie and
- 23:05Speaker 1: send Your Pink fighting, and we have the ladies on
- 23:09Speaker 1: the sidelines saying that he needs to please be careful. Meanwhile,
- 23:16Speaker 1: what is the name of the little people? Again?
- 23:19Speaker 2: That hot us?
- 23:22Speaker 1: Thank you? I don't know why I have trouble remembering
- 23:24Speaker 1: that they are watching the fight and are kind of
- 23:30Speaker 1: baffled at the fact that Frankie doesn't seem to be
- 23:34Speaker 1: like dodging or blocking. And when he hits s in
- 23:40Speaker 1: your pinks and your Pink just takes the hit also
- 23:44Speaker 1: and goes down. And they keep just noticing they're making
- 23:48Speaker 1: the same moves over and over. What's going on here?
- 23:54Speaker 1: And finally Frankie says that this dude is just so
- 24:00Speaker 1: damn legit. I can't dodge his attacks. I am going
- 24:06Speaker 1: to take it full on because he is such a
- 24:11Speaker 1: badass that he deserves to be treated with that respect.
- 24:16Speaker 1: It is a really weird way to talk about this.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Like he said, the guy's a bro among bros. I'm
- 24:31Speaker 1: going to take every attack he throws at me out
- 24:33Speaker 1: of respect. He can throw whatever he's got at me
- 24:38Speaker 1: and I'll still win because that's what I'm about. We're
- 24:43Speaker 1: doing it strong style.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Baby, I I like it.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Okay, do you want to go first?
- 24:58Speaker 1: No? You please? Please, it's you.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Okay. I've been a little side note starting watching a
- 25:07Speaker 2: new anime. I mean you, but it's called JoJo's Bizarre Adventures.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I've heard OF's okay, yes, and.
- 25:16Speaker 2: I tell you it is the campiest shit of campias.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Like I cannot it is so campy. And it is
- 25:25Speaker 2: because like you have like this muscle bound man, and
- 25:29Speaker 2: every time there is an other muscle bound man, you
- 25:33Speaker 2: just know, oh, he's going to become important because he's
- 25:36Speaker 2: he's just so muscled. And also oftentimes make like this
- 25:41Speaker 2: somewhat feminine poses but are like oftentimes only have like
- 25:47Speaker 2: short shorts on, and like it is a lot, but
- 25:50Speaker 2: I love it.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I really appreciate that.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I like it too. But so much of the show
- 25:59Speaker 2: hinges on well not so much hinges on the fact
- 26:04Speaker 2: of like, oh, we're gonna do a one on one
- 26:07Speaker 2: duel because it's the honorly thing, and like I have
- 26:10Speaker 2: like a hundred of my minions around, but we're gonna fight,
- 26:13Speaker 2: and they will not intervene, you know, because it's a
- 26:16Speaker 2: mania thing to do, and it is so over the top,
- 26:20Speaker 2: like so, and it's just camp and I see this
- 26:24Speaker 2: here as well. It is just I don't know, it
- 26:28Speaker 2: is a lot, definitely, but I feel like they know
- 26:33Speaker 2: it's a lot, and therefore I like it.
- 26:36Speaker 1: So that's why I see what you mean and like
- 26:39Speaker 1: it's definitely they're leaning into the goofiness here with the
- 26:43Speaker 1: two of them, which, considering how overly serious some of
- 26:46Speaker 1: the other fights are, I appreciate. Just as a break
- 26:50Speaker 1: from that, I would like to register once again how
- 26:55Speaker 1: Zoro's fight this arc is so lame. I can't get
- 26:59Speaker 1: over how boring it is. The man who can cut
- 27:03Speaker 1: aim ountain in half fighting a mountain, you would think
- 27:06Speaker 1: you could do a little bit more with that. But
- 27:10Speaker 1: this one with the two of them is some much
- 27:13Speaker 1: needed levity. And honestly, even though this doesn't make that
- 27:19Speaker 1: much sense to me, the two of them don't make
- 27:23Speaker 1: a lot of sense as people. So I'm willing to
- 27:29Speaker 1: go with this in a way that I might not
- 27:31Speaker 1: have been willing to go with it if it were
- 27:34Speaker 1: set up with somebody else, you know, just the fact
- 27:37Speaker 1: that the two of them have reached a point where
- 27:39Speaker 1: they respect each other so much, despite the fact that
- 27:43Speaker 1: they are on opposite sides. I have always kind of
- 27:46Speaker 1: been a fan of that, you know, And the fact
- 27:57Speaker 1: it's very funny to me that this dude, senor Pink
- 28:01Speaker 1: is wearing a literal diaper, but he calls Frankie a
- 28:05Speaker 1: pervert for being in his underwear, and I am just
- 28:08Speaker 1: like my guy. I don't know how to tell you
- 28:12Speaker 1: that dressing up as a whole baby is like a
- 28:16Speaker 1: literal kink. Anybody who saw you would think that you
- 28:19Speaker 1: were the pervert out of the two of you passing
- 28:23Speaker 1: on the street, no contest that you would be the one,
- 28:28Speaker 1: but not to kink shame, but like a little bit
- 28:31Speaker 1: kink shaming. I guess, yes, just a drop, and I'm
- 28:34Speaker 1: not mad about it. So other than that, though, they
- 28:38Speaker 1: seem to have a great respect for one another, and
- 28:40Speaker 1: even like there's a point where he's going down memory
- 28:42Speaker 1: Lane and Frankie just stops and is like, dude, what
- 28:46Speaker 1: is up with you? You're fucked up right now? What
- 28:48Speaker 1: is happening? And I just love that, Like Frankie is
- 28:52Speaker 1: sensitive to his opponent's mood and like emotional state, which
- 28:56Speaker 1: is extremely funny to me.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Absolutely, they just get each other like yeah, yeah.
- 29:08Speaker 1: So Frankie tells his the Tantata like, hey, guys, don't
- 29:12Speaker 1: worry about it. We'll definitely get you your freedom, but
- 29:17Speaker 1: I am going to fight this my way, and you
- 29:20Speaker 1: just have to let these men deal with their men's fight.
- 29:24Speaker 1: And the Tantanta get very emotional themselves. They call him Froland,
- 29:31Speaker 1: which I don't feel like I had noticed in any
- 29:34Speaker 1: other episode that they call him that. It's like in
- 29:37Speaker 1: this episode it really I was noticing, but they just
- 29:44Speaker 1: I kind of wanted the Tantanta to just be like,
- 29:47Speaker 1: are you serious? Come on man. The fact that they
- 29:51Speaker 1: were all into it was fine, but I would have
- 29:53Speaker 1: liked at least one of them to look around at
- 29:56Speaker 1: the other one's cheering and be like, I don't understand this.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Be over. Is that what you're telling me? And we're
- 30:02Speaker 1: still doing it? Like for reasons, I hate this, But
- 30:07Speaker 1: in this that F'ta seemed to be mostly a monolith.
- 30:11Speaker 1: So that's fine, Yes, that's true. That's true. So this
- 30:21Speaker 1: is when Senor Pink is like, all right, I'm about
- 30:25Speaker 1: to land on Anya and not a kiss, even though
- 30:28Speaker 1: that is what I wish. I am going to hit
- 30:33Speaker 1: you with a shot that if you manage to survive
- 30:37Speaker 1: it without blocking, I will like concede the match. My
- 30:45Speaker 1: next move is going to settle this one. And hey, pervert,
- 30:53Speaker 1: are you picking up what I'm throwing down? This is
- 30:57Speaker 1: when you start swimming through the floor at him, and
- 31:02Speaker 1: one of the women from the side is yelling like,
- 31:04Speaker 1: how can you fight from so far away? Cup closer?
- 31:07Speaker 1: And I was like, bitch, who are you? Get the
- 31:11Speaker 1: fuck out of here? How do you tell this man
- 31:13Speaker 1: how to fight his fight? How far away he is?
- 31:15Speaker 1: You think he doesn't know he's far away for sure?
- 31:19Speaker 1: Nobody asked you.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good. I like the animation that follows, like
- 31:26Speaker 2: of him like swimming and picking up Frankie.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 2: And it feels like a lot of speed building up.
- 31:33Speaker 2: It is like greatly animated, and it conveys like the
- 31:40Speaker 2: power behind the attack.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I would, yeah, agree, yeah, because he goes straight up
- 31:46Speaker 1: the side of a tower in the center of town
- 31:50Speaker 1: and he goes up toward the sky and says, that's
- 31:53Speaker 1: a mean looking sky today, don't you think. But if
- 31:56Speaker 1: I can keep flying then maybe I can see my
- 32:01Speaker 1: Russian and Frankie is just like Russian. And he says, yeah,
- 32:07Speaker 1: I'd like to see my son Gimlet too, and correct
- 32:13Speaker 1: me if I'm wrong. Is Russian dead? I thought she
- 32:21Speaker 1: was still alive.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I mean, based on what he says here, I would
- 32:28Speaker 2: actually assume that she died.
- 32:30Speaker 1: In the mean, that's what I was thinking, like, we
- 32:32Speaker 1: don't see her death, but no, talking about it like this,
- 32:36Speaker 1: it felt like he was saying, I'll see them in heaven, right, like, Okay.
- 32:41Speaker 2: In the meantime, she died, she passed away.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Okay. I am so curious why Oda chose the name
- 32:53Speaker 1: Russian do anything on that?
- 32:59Speaker 2: I don't know, honestly, No. I also found it kind
- 33:06Speaker 2: of weird, but a part of me, actually, I don't know,
- 33:12Speaker 2: I like it, you know, weird grade. But then again
- 33:17Speaker 2: Paris or like I don't know, London, like some people
- 33:20Speaker 2: call their children like Paris.
- 33:24Speaker 1: You know, yeah, I guess that's true. It's just a
- 33:30Speaker 1: different like she's not called Russia, she's called Russian, which
- 33:36Speaker 1: I've never met a person just named French, you know,
- 33:43Speaker 1: Like I mean, I'm not saying it's not out there,
- 33:46Speaker 1: like probably every name is out there, but it's just
- 33:49Speaker 1: such a particular, you know, just a weird approach to it.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I mean. Also could be like the language ship and
- 34:01Speaker 2: it's not the same, Like I mean, Russian.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Is yeah, the translation somehow is yeah basically.
- 34:12Speaker 2: But then again I would say, like if it's like yeah,
- 34:16Speaker 2: Switzerland like well, I don't know, but but Russia and
- 34:21Speaker 2: Russian I don't know. I also would say, do you
- 34:24Speaker 2: know the English world for Russia and can think of okay,
- 34:30Speaker 2: would think, yeah, I don't feel like it is so
- 34:37Speaker 2: I know, like this is a huge country, you know,
- 34:40Speaker 2: so yeah, yeah, maybe not, I don't know.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Saraphim says regarding the name, what we know is that
- 34:47Speaker 1: Russian was an early draft name for Rebecca, so it
- 34:51Speaker 1: seems oda just reuse the name here instead. I'm wondering
- 34:59Speaker 1: if it were if Rebecca were named Russian, how I
- 35:03Speaker 1: would feel about her, If it would change at all,
- 35:06Speaker 1: I think I'd be even more disappointed. She deserves the
- 35:08Speaker 1: name Rebecca, a much more ordinary name.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Do you like it the name? Like, just give somebody
- 35:16Speaker 2: If you wouldn't meet somebody who is like, hey, my
- 35:18Speaker 2: name is Russian, you can't decide.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I really can't like my instinct had shorten it to Rush.
- 35:27Speaker 1: But the only Rush I've ever heard of is Rush Limbaugh,
- 35:30Speaker 1: who was a monstrous right wing radio host who sucked balls.
- 35:38Speaker 1: So I would not like it shortened either. I really
- 35:45Speaker 1: can't decide if I would like it or not. Something
- 35:47Speaker 1: sort of grow on you, and like, I only learned
- 35:50Speaker 1: that this is her name this afternoon, so it hasn't
- 35:52Speaker 1: had enough time to simmer. Maybe I'll come around on it.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Right now, I'm still just sort of.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Like, what, No, that's lovely The first ration I.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Had so as they are falling to the ground, Senor
- 36:11Speaker 1: Pink says, your back is still regular flesh and blood, right,
- 36:17Speaker 1: and Frankie says, ah, man, you figure that out. And
- 36:21Speaker 1: he says, all right, now, stop talking so that you
- 36:25Speaker 1: don't bite your tongue when you fall, and he yells,
- 36:30Speaker 1: Miao miao, Suplex baby buster and just plummets him into
- 36:39Speaker 1: the ground. I don't know, I'll be honest, is the
- 36:45Speaker 1: technique the first part? Or is the technique name the
- 36:50Speaker 1: second part and the first part is like a version
- 36:56Speaker 1: of the technique.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Honestly, I feel like this is even though, because I like.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Suplex was just it. But then he says babybuster, and
- 37:08Speaker 1: I was like, oh, there's another part to this. I
- 37:10Speaker 1: don't know, but he makes a crater basically in the
- 37:13Speaker 1: street and then he comes up out of the ground
- 37:17Speaker 1: no problem. And Frankie is over there literally with like
- 37:21Speaker 1: smoke coming off him, not looking too good. Frankly pun intended,
- 37:29Speaker 1: I'm so sorry everybody in my apologies, and as Senor
- 37:34Speaker 1: Pink is looking at him, we start to go into
- 37:38Speaker 1: our flashback moment and he like, let's see, I'm trying
- 37:48Speaker 1: to find the exact spot where this happens because he
- 37:52Speaker 1: turns his back on Frankie and the fact that Frankie
- 37:55Speaker 1: is able to stand up is yeah, as far as
- 38:02Speaker 1: he had said, this was it right. If you can
- 38:05Speaker 1: survive this, I concede the fight.
- 38:10Speaker 2: But he said, like you, I get to attack you,
- 38:15Speaker 2: and you get to attack me, like without dodging, without
- 38:21Speaker 2: what's it called protecting, Like that both get like an
- 38:25Speaker 2: attack that is full on force out and you just
- 38:31Speaker 2: take it.
- 38:32Speaker 1: I was sworn that he said, if you can withstand this,
- 38:37Speaker 1: then you win. I could have sworn, oh, well, okay,
- 38:43Speaker 1: so yeah, you're right. Terminator like with Frankie because of
- 38:47Speaker 1: his like red I didn't like when I saw his face.
- 38:53Speaker 1: I knew it reminded me of something, but I didn't
- 38:55Speaker 1: stop and like think about what it was. But that's
- 38:57Speaker 1: one hundred percent what it is. That's kind of fun.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I'm surprised it took this long for like a terminator reference,
- 39:04Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So Frankie begins to punch
- 39:13Speaker 1: at him, very very very very aggressively, and this punch
- 39:22Speaker 1: he calls like a rain of punches, and then it
- 39:28Speaker 1: causes him to think about the rain that was happening
- 39:32Speaker 1: the night that he first met Russian. And so then
- 39:36Speaker 1: we go into the little love story that happened. It's
- 39:41Speaker 1: a meet cute where we're caught in the rain. We
- 39:46Speaker 1: both have to duck under an awning to get out
- 39:49Speaker 1: of it for a second. And the woman who has
- 39:53Speaker 1: ducked out of the rain is very much like as
- 39:57Speaker 1: somebody who is optimistic tastes you in a lot of things.
- 40:02Speaker 1: And the fact that she says, like, I actually like
- 40:05Speaker 1: the rain, it feels really nice. Obviously this speaks to
- 40:11Speaker 1: him on some particular level and gets his attention. And uh,
- 40:18Speaker 1: I liked the fact that she is drawn a little
- 40:22Speaker 1: bit differently then a lot of the women have been
- 40:25Speaker 1: so far in this show, like her nose is a
- 40:27Speaker 1: much more distinctive shape, her lips are not done up
- 40:32Speaker 1: with like lipstick. She's got like kind of a more
- 40:35Speaker 1: plain makeup list. Look, I mean, she do have giant titties,
- 40:41Speaker 1: but it seems like that's just sort of how it be.
- 40:46Speaker 1: And she asks him, like, don't you love it too?
- 40:53Speaker 1: And she looks over at him and it's like when
- 40:56Speaker 1: he is looking at her, clear she hasn't chanted him
- 41:00Speaker 1: in this moment absolutely, So then they go on a date.
- 41:09Speaker 1: This was so funny to me. Yeah, my impression because
- 41:17Speaker 1: like what he says is tell me what you don't like.
- 41:23Speaker 1: So my impression is they've been talking for half an
- 41:26Speaker 1: hour and she has not had like one negative thing
- 41:29Speaker 1: to say about anything. That he is basically like, you
- 41:33Speaker 1: like everything, what tell me like one thing that you
- 41:36Speaker 1: don't like? And we don't actually see that conversation. So
- 41:40Speaker 1: I'm making that up, but I feel pretty confident about it,
- 41:43Speaker 1: to be honest. And it takes her a second and
- 41:49Speaker 1: then she says, oh, pirates hate him to death, so
- 41:53Speaker 1: what do you do? And he is just sweating that
- 41:59Speaker 1: anime what And honestly the fact that so he decides
- 42:08Speaker 1: to why to her about what he does and marry
- 42:14Speaker 1: her and keep this lie going in their marriage. Also,
- 42:19Speaker 1: he tells her he's a banker. I am so sorry,
- 42:24Speaker 1: but if you are a pirate and I'm assuming are
- 42:27Speaker 1: on the high seas a good amount, what do you
- 42:30Speaker 1: say you are doing for the bank in this capacity?
- 42:39Speaker 1: What excuses is he giving her about where he goes?
- 42:45Speaker 2: What ardor called in Game of Thrones there comes somebody
- 42:51Speaker 2: to the wall abravosi or like wait like in Game
- 42:58Speaker 2: of Thrones, Yeah, from the bank to the wall and talk.
- 43:02Speaker 1: John oh tychonostauris.
- 43:06Speaker 2: I don't know the name from the Iron Bank? Yeah,
- 43:08Speaker 2: what would you call like this occupation? Basically that is
- 43:11Speaker 2: what he's doing.
- 43:13Speaker 1: He Yeah, I think Tychonostaurus was like a broker for
- 43:16Speaker 1: like loans, like he was a loans officer. I think
- 43:21Speaker 1: maybe that Okay, It just like I wouldn't have minded
- 43:26Speaker 1: a little bit more about how exactly he lies to her,
- 43:33Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I would just sort of
- 43:37Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind it feeling like she asks questions and
- 43:43Speaker 1: he keeps building on the lie, because that's the part
- 43:48Speaker 1: for me that would be so devastating when you have
- 43:51Speaker 1: a relationship. If you start with a lie, you not
- 43:54Speaker 1: only have to continue that, but you now have to
- 43:56Speaker 1: create a whole fake world around that lie. And so
- 44:01Speaker 1: once you discover the lie, everything surrounding it gets called
- 44:05Speaker 1: into question, and that becomes something that you can get
- 44:09Speaker 1: very obsessed with. It's like, oh, I believed all of
- 44:11Speaker 1: these things, but if you told me that one thing
- 44:13Speaker 1: isn't true, then maybe none of these other things are true.
- 44:17Speaker 1: It's just out of just personal curiosity. It's not like
- 44:20Speaker 1: a big deal or anything. But so, yeah, him saying
- 44:24Speaker 1: a banker, it's like we go straight into them getting married,
- 44:29Speaker 1: her getting pregnant, and we have like putts here and
- 44:35Speaker 1: there to him out with the pirates basically murdering people
- 44:41Speaker 1: left and right in the most cavalier doesn't even feel
- 44:48Speaker 1: like an adequate word. It's like it feels like how
- 44:53Speaker 1: people just do finger guns, you know, like just there's
- 44:58Speaker 1: no real direction. There doesn't seem to be a threat
- 45:01Speaker 1: that he's fighting back against. It just feels and we
- 45:04Speaker 1: don't actually really see that many people go down. We
- 45:07Speaker 1: see him firing a lot more than we see people dying,
- 45:13Speaker 1: which I have to assume is on purpose, because how
- 45:15Speaker 1: would we continue to feel for him if we really
- 45:19Speaker 1: saw what a murderer he was.
- 45:22Speaker 2: He gave to me, like I don't know, a photo shoot,
- 45:25Speaker 2: you know, like now we have these well dressed men,
- 45:30Speaker 2: we've a gun, and we take some photos while it
- 45:33Speaker 2: looks like that he's shooting people.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's funny. Yeah, So he rushes back
- 45:44Speaker 1: at one point, gets there after she has given birth
- 45:48Speaker 1: and we see his little baby that She asks him
- 45:52Speaker 1: what we should name it, and he says, he looks
- 45:55Speaker 1: like a gimlet, which I only know a gimblet as
- 46:00Speaker 1: like a drink, like a vodka gimlet. Okay, have you
- 46:09Speaker 1: ever heard of this? No, I'm gonna look it up
- 46:12Speaker 1: because I feel like it has lime in it or something.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, the gimlet is a cocktail made out of
- 46:19Speaker 1: gin and lime cordial. Okay, that sounds delicious. Actually, Hi, yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 2: It looks I think I would drink it. I mean,
- 46:31Speaker 2: I hope it's not too bitter because of that, like
- 46:34Speaker 2: bitter drinks.
- 46:37Speaker 1: It seems like it's a lot of roses lime juice,
- 46:40Speaker 1: which is sweetened lime juice. So I would assume it's
- 46:44Speaker 1: not bitter because those are pretty intensely sweet.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Okay, I don't think get behind it anyway. I hate
- 46:53Speaker 2: this name.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Why do you hate it?
- 46:58Speaker 2: I don't know. I can get Russian was like okay,
- 47:03Speaker 2: and it grew on me personally over time. But Gimlet,
- 47:06Speaker 2: I'm just like always like, eh, like it sounds like
- 47:10Speaker 2: I don't know, dirt or it mostly reminds me of
- 47:14Speaker 2: a draw like the I don't know, from the Hobbit
- 47:19Speaker 2: or something, you know where Gimli.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Yeah, is that what you're thinking of?
- 47:24Speaker 2: Yeah? And I also don't like the name Gimili. I
- 47:27Speaker 2: don't know, not for me, I get it.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that's really funny though, because like it's just interesting
- 47:36Speaker 1: the way that we react to names and how like
- 47:39Speaker 1: strongly we'll feel about them. And it's just like noises,
- 47:43Speaker 1: but for whatever reason, we're just like, I hate that noise.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Stop it now, which I respect your hatred of Gimblet
- 47:50Speaker 1: is valid, but I do want to try this drink though.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fair. No, Gimli is okay, but Gimlet just
- 47:58Speaker 2: like what the are we doing? I'm sorry, but gladly
- 48:06Speaker 2: he does not have to grow up with his name.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's fucked up, Florian, but I'll let him
- 48:13Speaker 1: pass okay, I'm sorry. So we have him like getting
- 48:22Speaker 1: the baby bonnet and stuff as a gift for his
- 48:25Speaker 1: wife and her being very excited. And then one day
- 48:29Speaker 1: she wakes up and the baby's crying, and she runs
- 48:31Speaker 1: into the living room and this dude has fucking left
- 48:35Speaker 1: without even saying anything to her, so abruptly that there's
- 48:38Speaker 1: literally a steaming cup of coffee still sitting on the table.
- 48:42Speaker 1: This for me, was beyond the pale. Look, it is
- 48:47Speaker 1: one thing to be a murderer and a pirate. Okay, fine,
- 48:53Speaker 1: but you just leave your home and your wife and
- 48:57Speaker 1: child without so much as a I'll see you in
- 49:01Speaker 1: two days. Are you fucking serious right now? That's insane
- 49:07Speaker 1: behavior to me. He like, just the fact that he
- 49:10Speaker 1: is lying so much about what he does to begin with,
- 49:14Speaker 1: I would think that he would go all the harder
- 49:18Speaker 1: on his goodbyes, on trying to make things seem more legitimate,
- 49:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean? So oh, Seraphim says, I
- 49:34Speaker 1: never read it. As he ran off with that, telling
- 49:35Speaker 1: her she knew he was off on a business trip.
- 49:37Speaker 1: She literally says, where is he? Where did daddy go?
- 49:43Speaker 1: She says to her son. She runs into the room
- 49:45Speaker 1: saying like, where are you, like asking for help because
- 49:50Speaker 1: the baby's crying and she doesn't know what to do.
- 49:53Speaker 2: And there's like coffee or something there. Yeah, yeah, it
- 49:57Speaker 2: seems like he just went up and left, like God,
- 50:00Speaker 2: got the call from Dophie and was like, oh to go.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Yeah, So she's trying to comfort the baby and we
- 50:09Speaker 1: get a smash cut to a story night where he
- 50:14Speaker 1: finally comes home and she is just sitting in the
- 50:19Speaker 1: room looking at the photo of her son, and he
- 50:24Speaker 1: drops the bouquet of flowers that he had brought her
- 50:28Speaker 1: and says Gimblet is dead. And she says, a week
- 50:31Speaker 1: ago today, the same day you disappeared, he came down
- 50:36Speaker 1: with a sudden fever. I rushed him to the hospital,
- 50:39Speaker 1: but he didn't make it. So yeah, the way that
- 50:45Speaker 1: she says the same day you disappeared, that does not
- 50:48Speaker 1: sound to me like she knew he was going at all.
- 50:50Speaker 1: That sounds very much like fuck you. You didn't even
- 50:55Speaker 1: say anything. But it doesn't really matter in the end,
- 51:00Speaker 1: And this is when she says, I called the bank
- 51:03Speaker 1: over and over trying to find you, and you lied.
- 51:07Speaker 1: They told me you were never employed there. Tell me
- 51:11Speaker 1: the truth. What do you really do for a living,
- 51:14Speaker 1: where did the money come from? And he won't tell her.
- 51:20Speaker 1: And he also, I have to add, never ever puts
- 51:24Speaker 1: out his cigarette, not for a moment. This man needs
- 51:31Speaker 1: to put down his cigarette in this moment, when he
- 51:34Speaker 1: has found out his child is dead and his wife
- 51:37Speaker 1: is confronting him about his lie, standing there with his
- 51:41Speaker 1: cigarette in his mouth and his hands in his pockets.
- 51:43Speaker 1: It is not giving that he gives a shit at
- 51:47Speaker 1: all about any of this, Like it is almost past.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Like what it's like somebody took a cutout of soany
- 51:58Speaker 1: and put him in there and she's just crying over
- 52:01Speaker 1: the like cardboard cutout of him.
- 52:04Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I need you to like have any reaction, sir, Oh
- 52:09Speaker 1: my god.
- 52:11Speaker 2: It truly is like I feel like he is fully starboard,
- 52:17Speaker 2: like because as you said, like he does not answer her.
- 52:21Speaker 2: But I can forgive him that in the sense not
- 52:26Speaker 2: in this moment, because first thing, your son is dead.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Second thing, what is your job like that you don't
- 52:33Speaker 2: make like that connection like basically that your brain can
- 52:36Speaker 2: process that far? I can give it to him. Yeah,
- 52:42Speaker 2: the secret. Yeah, I feel like it's all of not
- 52:47Speaker 2: me being analyzing this was high literature, but he just
- 52:55Speaker 2: created this perfect family and home and now it's kind
- 52:59Speaker 2: of like in shambles, and he don't know how to
- 53:02Speaker 2: react at all, so he just stands there in his
- 53:06Speaker 2: default position.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Basically, I just really the way that she's finally like,
- 53:13Speaker 1: you know what, I'm out If there was if this
- 53:20Speaker 1: scene had played out any differently, I would have been
- 53:25Speaker 1: very much raising an eyebrow at her just running out
- 53:28Speaker 1: into a storm in a forest. But frankly, if he
- 53:33Speaker 1: responded the way that he has here to me, I
- 53:36Speaker 1: also don't think I could be in the same house
- 53:38Speaker 1: with this man. I would have to go like it
- 53:41Speaker 1: would be the sort of thing where I get angry
- 53:42Speaker 1: enough that I'm like, I might hurt him. I need
- 53:46Speaker 1: to remove myself from the situation. I am so angry
- 53:49Speaker 1: that I might do something very dramatic right now. So
- 53:52Speaker 1: let me do something very dramatic in a different way
- 53:55Speaker 1: and run out into this storm in the middle of
- 53:57Speaker 1: the night in just my like sun dress or whatever.
- 54:02Speaker 1: And he tries to follow her, grab her by the shoulder,
- 54:05Speaker 1: showing some emotion. Finally, she turns around and decks him
- 54:09Speaker 1: across the face, and then he says, you don't understand
- 54:16Speaker 1: there's a reason that I can't tell you the truth.
- 54:19Speaker 1: And I was just like it flashes back to her
- 54:22Speaker 1: saying Pirates, I hate him to death, which it was
- 54:25Speaker 1: funny to me that we needed that flashback because that
- 54:27Speaker 1: literally happened like three minutes earlier. But okay, and the
- 54:32Speaker 1: fact that it's like, well, you said you hated Pirates,
- 54:34Speaker 1: so I couldn't tell you. You know, that's not like
- 54:37Speaker 1: a reason not to tell her, right, Like he's acting
- 54:41Speaker 1: like if you just understood that I do the thing
- 54:45Speaker 1: that you hate, you would understand. But like, that's not
- 54:48Speaker 1: the issue, my guy. It's that you are the thing
- 54:53Speaker 1: that she hates, which is she hates it for a
- 54:56Speaker 1: good reason because we just saw how you're out here
- 54:58Speaker 1: just mowing people down with what appears to be like
- 55:02Speaker 1: a flintlock pistol. So I don't know how that works.
- 55:05Speaker 1: But just the whole it was reminding me of have
- 55:10Speaker 1: you ever watched The Sopranos.
- 55:13Speaker 4: No, okayiens, It's one of those shows where it's an
- 55:19Speaker 4: excellent show, but I don't really like tend to recommend
- 55:22Speaker 4: it much because it's so bleak.
- 55:24Speaker 1: It's just about bad people, and Succession was also about
- 55:29Speaker 1: bad people, and I loved that, but it felt much
- 55:31Speaker 1: more like it was kind of a self parody a
- 55:37Speaker 1: little bit. But there is a scene eventually where Tony
- 55:44Speaker 1: and Carmela, the main character and his wife. She has
- 55:49Speaker 1: been confronted in a way that she cannot ignore about
- 55:54Speaker 1: what he really does for a living, that he's a mobster,
- 55:57Speaker 1: has been involved in bad shit, and it's a really
- 56:01Speaker 1: interesting fight because, like he basically insinuates that she fucking
- 56:06Speaker 1: had to have known and just looked the other way,
- 56:10Speaker 1: because you aren't the kind of woman that would be
- 56:13Speaker 1: satisfied with a Hyundai and a little gold heart on
- 56:16Speaker 1: a chain. And essentially you took all of the like
- 56:22Speaker 1: the incredible, uh, what's the word advantages of my job
- 56:30Speaker 1: and never really asked any questions because you knew better
- 56:34Speaker 1: than to ask questions because you suspected something about this
- 56:38Speaker 1: wasn't right and didn't want to know. And now it's
- 56:42Speaker 1: in your face and you can pretend to be mad
- 56:44Speaker 1: at me, but I'm not fucking buying it. There is
- 56:47Speaker 1: no way that you weren't at least partially aware of
- 56:50Speaker 1: what I was into. Don't fucking pretend. And I kind
- 56:55Speaker 1: of want to say that here but that's like obviously
- 56:59Speaker 1: not true. She had no idea. If this were written
- 57:02Speaker 1: in a different way, it would feel like, come on, lady,
- 57:07Speaker 1: you like the whole time that you guys have been
- 57:09Speaker 1: together and had a kid, you have never noticed that
- 57:13Speaker 1: shit is not really lining up, you know, But it
- 57:16Speaker 1: really does seem like they have only been together at
- 57:20Speaker 1: least a year based on the kid, I think you
- 57:24Speaker 1: could maybe get away with this lie for a year.
- 57:28Speaker 1: I think you could probably pull that off.
- 57:31Speaker 2: We don't get a lot on her, but I wouldn't
- 57:34Speaker 2: say Russian necessarily is depicted as super smart.
- 57:39Speaker 1: No, true, She's more.
- 57:41Speaker 2: Depicted as like as you said before, like joys and
- 57:44Speaker 2: like sees the good in things. I feel like, yeah, yeah,
- 57:52Speaker 2: that's what we get from her, or at least I
- 57:54Speaker 2: got from her, which makes it also sad, Like I y,
- 58:00Speaker 2: I not a parent and probably never really be. But
- 58:05Speaker 2: just like your kid is screaming and you take the
- 58:09Speaker 2: temperature and it's like above, like it is so high
- 58:15Speaker 2: the fuck up? Like what you do? Like of course,
- 58:18Speaker 2: like like she says she went to the hospital and
- 58:20Speaker 2: everything and still it ended up. How like that must
- 58:24Speaker 2: be devastating, Like yeah, all of a sudden out of nowhere.
- 58:29Speaker 2: It seems like your kid is going to die and
- 58:32Speaker 2: your young mother and this scenario alone, like that sounds horrible.
- 58:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I really the idea of going through something like
- 58:45Speaker 1: that alone is the part, Like, you know, the only
- 58:49Speaker 1: frame of reference that I have whenever kids come up
- 58:52Speaker 1: is my dog's and going through anything with one of
- 58:59Speaker 1: them if my husband wasn't around, was really scary and
- 59:04Speaker 1: really hard. And I can't imagine when it's like your
- 59:07Speaker 1: child that you made together. So yeah, and the fact
- 59:13Speaker 1: that by the time he comes home, the kid's been
- 59:15Speaker 1: dead a week. She's been in mourning for her child
- 59:18Speaker 1: for a week all alone, and found out in the
- 59:23Speaker 1: midst of this grief that he's a huge liar that
- 59:25Speaker 1: has been lying yites Like, yeah, that is fucking devastating,
- 59:33Speaker 1: And we have the U jump to the next morning
- 59:39Speaker 1: where he is coming home, clearly having been out in
- 59:42Speaker 1: the rain in the woods all night, just coming home
- 59:48Speaker 1: now that it's getting light out and the phone is
- 59:51Speaker 1: ringing and it's the hospital to tell him that she
- 59:57Speaker 1: is in a persistent vegetative state persistent, Yeah, and doesn't
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: respond to anything, and they think that it's the trauma
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: and that she basically like had a mental break. And
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: it's weird because like a vegetative state does not involve
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: a human being sitting perfectly straight up with like absolutely
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: immaculate posture. Usually so that I find a bizarre way
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: to do things here I could have. I really think
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: that maybe just having her in a bed that's tilted
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: up a little bit so that she's sort of sitting,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: you could have accomplished the same thing. Having her sitting
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: up like that is a really really weird uh choice,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: But you know, I don't know. Oh, Seraphim says the
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: dub set that it was trauma. The sub was that
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: she got caught in a mud slide due to the rain.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Hold on, that's really different, Like there have been times
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: where things don't line up, but there's never been a
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: total difference like that that I remember, Because like, how
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: would the mud slide have even done this to her?
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: A mudslide causing her to be like awake with her
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: eyes open but unresponsive. I don't even know how that
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: would work.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Depends if she like got hit on the head really
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: how like a mudslide. Then you're just like I guess
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: I would say it's not impossible, but I was a
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: love the doctor.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: Okay, ha, I wonder why it's so different with both
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: of them.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: I mean, I know, I mean I also when I
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: think of this, I also think of the mud slide thing.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: So that's the thing that I have remembered. At least, I'm.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Going to go back and just make sure. Let's see,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: your wife is in critical condition. Oh no, she was
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: trapped under a landslide during the storm. I totally miss that.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: You guys are right, she was trapped un her landside.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: During a story. She's awake but unresponsive, and this is
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: when he says the vegetative state. The trauma has left
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: her with no signs of awareness, and I'm afraid she
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: may never recover. You guys, I totally like slid right
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: past that landslide pun intended, and just went right to
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: him saying the trauma. So I thought he met the
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: trauma of like just like emotional things that she just
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: went through, which in retrospect doesn't make any sense because
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: why would he know about that? But that was definitely
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: how I took it the first time. Oh okay, Even so,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: her being sitting up is really weird.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that sitting up is weird. That is. I
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: don't know, just the choice of what those parts I
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: guess yeah, oh no the part I I I what
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: do want to say? This is kind of like where
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: he of course is in morning and he tries like
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: we see like the seasons go by in the windows
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: behind them, just to show time passes.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Mm hmmm.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Then one day he's like in the street and sees
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: the it's called a bonnet. Yeah yeah, and he just
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: buys it and goes to her with it and puts
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: it on. Did you did you think like it would
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: work or like, did you think anything would happen? Or
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: did you think nothing will happen?
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: I really didn't, Like I felt silly once I when
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: she smiled and I was like, oh, that's what it is.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: But I like, obviously he puts it on, and I'm like,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: well I know that this is his thing later, so
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: where is this coming from? But I wasn't thinking how
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: it would work, and I really mostly is what he
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: does is he puts it on, and then he's like,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: don't I look like gimlet? And I was like, bro,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: this is a fucked up thing to do, Like, hey,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna do this, and then ask if I look
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: like our dead son, Like it just felt to me
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: like almost cruel, you know, but also I never gone
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: through something like this, so it might be comforting. I
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: don't know. And then he says like, Okay, sorry, that
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: was a really bad joke. I don't know what I
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: was thinking. And he starts to take it off, and
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: I'm thinking, good, I don't know what you were thinking either, dude,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: and then she smiles a little bit and I was like, oh, oh,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: that's what it is. And so Bro basically like completely
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: goes off the deep end with dressing like a baby
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: from here on out. We go into the next episode
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: and he has strolled into the hospital in the full
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: on get up that he is wearing later, and everybody
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: is just like, that is not cool, dude, why are
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: you dressed like this? You can't just walk around like that,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: and he is very much who gonna check me? Boo you?
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: I don't see it. I am walking past you now.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Oh look I'm in her room. I guess I can
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: just walk around like this.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: And I don't think that's his intent, but has its
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: own kind of hotness, like just don't care, be yourself.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: There's something to it. So I can see why the
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: ladies in the present. Some ladies are like falling for it.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: I can see it.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: I definitely like because it was just so weird to
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: begin with. And I'm not sure if those ladies know
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: his backstory and why he's doing this.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I don't know, Like, I don't think.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: If I didn't know that, I could do that I
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: could be cool with it. I have to know, so
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: I don't know what their position is on this. Maybe
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: maybe it's simply he's doing something weird and doesn't care,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: and that's what I like. For me, it's he's doing
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: something weird for a very specific emotional reason, and that's
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: what's attractive to me. But I could also get feeling
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: like it doesn't matter. I just like counterculture guy, because yeah,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: we see him getting like harassed by everybody in the street.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: He gets given a hard time by practically every person
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: he passes, and could not care less. He just could
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: not give fewer shits. And he comes into her room
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: with his bouquet of flowers and she gives him like
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: a tiny little smile and it is clear that this
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: is a rap on him ever wearing regular clothes. Again,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: that little response that's enough, And we see him at
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: home with his closet full of designer suits and just
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: pushing all of them aside to dress up like this
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: yet again. And even when people are like making fun
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: of him and stuff, he's actually still smiling because what
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: they're saying just does not touch him. No, not at all.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: It's great. I love it. It is.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: Oh okay, let's talk about this multiple things. Is this
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: I feel like he does this for Russian but I
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: also feel like this is like it's the word penance
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: the right man. Yeah, definitely, Like, yes, it does not
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: touch him, but he kind of also is aware of it,
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Like I don't know if that's true, but or how
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: do you say? See? Because I feel like it is
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: also like I did a bad thing I deserved this
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: is a little bit there, But I don't know if
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: I'm reading into this too much.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: I could see that it didn't occur to me. But
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: when you say it, I'm like, okay, no, that would
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: make some sense of like feeling such guilt that humiliating
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: yourself feels like you're making up for it a little bit. Yeah,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I like that as a motivator. That works. It's and
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: it would make sense why he's just continuing to do
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: this even now after she is presumably dead, because he
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: can't let go of the guilt, you know, And we
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: have him telling her like this outfit is worth more
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: than the finest suit, and he puts his hand over
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: hers and she smiles at him a little bit more
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: like we're getting more of a response from her by
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: this point, and then when we come to the present,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: he is saying, the only time you smile for me
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: anymore is when I wear this, And it sounded like
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: he was saying it to himself in the present, but
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: it's the voiceover, I think from him talking to her.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: It's a little hard to tell because and that's why
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: I got a little confused about like whether she was
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: still around or not, because, like I said, we don't
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: have like a death scene. And even though he isn't
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: his mouth isn't moving in the present because he's getting
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: the ship punched out of him. We have frequently had
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: characters their mouths aren't moving, We're just hearing their internal monologue,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: you know. So that's what I kind of thought, was
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: him in the presence saying the only time you smile
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: for me anymore is when I wear this, Like because
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: he's still wearing it, so it could have been our
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: current state. Still, you know, I guess what you mean.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: So we have him like flying across town basically because
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: he gets punched so hard that he goes. It seems
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: like he takes quite a long trip in how far
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: he flies away from Frankie's fist and his sunglasses shatter,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: and he says something like, it seems like the rain
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: you liked so much has finally stopped, and the clouds
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: part and we have this stream of sunlight coming down
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: and then he gasps, and we get this like montage
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: of her and him overlaid on the sky, and I
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: couldn't tell. It felt like it was him dying, you
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: know what I mean, I know what you like. It
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: felt like he was saying, Okay, I'm done and out
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: of here with you. I can't tell if that's just
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: really going on, like if he's feeling like he's communing
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: with her or what. Frankie walks up to him and
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: sees that he's crying, and this is when he's like,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: what is making you hurt like that? Dude? Like you
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: are a mess, and he wipes the tears away from
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: his eyes in this very like delicate manner with his
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: giant robot fingers, and so in Your Pink is just
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: on the ground chilling with his arms still crossed by
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: the way guys, of course, So Frankie assumes that it's
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: about a woman, and it's just like, if we ever
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: meet again, you gotta tell me what that's about. And
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: then he goes over to the tantata and tells them,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: all right, guys, go do your thing. And I could
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: not help but laugh because it felt very much like
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: they could have been doing their thing this whole time.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: They did not need to sit here as spectators for
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: this whole fight.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Well when you absolutely but if you remember, it was
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: first they were fucking the factory up, then the manager
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: came out with your vacuum. Then Frankie showed up, and
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: then Senor pinc suret. So that was kind of like
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: why they all were watching, okay, And so basically they
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: were like, we cannot fight unless these fight is over.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: I don't know they could have done it.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: They really could have though, Yeah it's fine.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and Frankie falls down as they rush in. Just
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: shout out to Frankie. He's like a little bit overlooked sometimes,
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: but I love him great, great, Strawhead.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Agreed one of the m vps. I was really I
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: was looking for a Frankie Wanted poster when I went
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: to that pop up one piece place in Houston, and
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: the only ones they had it was the Sunny as
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: the face of the poster, and I didn't buy it
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: because I want Frankie's face and I don't know why
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: he doesn't have his face on it, if that's like
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: a thing in the show that I have missed that
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: they haven't been able to get his photo for some
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: reason or something. But yeah, when because I was really
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: excited when I saw the name, and then I pulled
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: it out and I saw that it was just the
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: Sonny and I was like, oh, I don't, well, that's
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: not really what I wanted.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: So clear, I know we don't have a lot of
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: time left, but I still would like we're just here.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: What were your thoughts on this section? I mostly here
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: for this And you said in the beginning, you said, like,
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: maybe your favorite character is Seniel Pink. Can you like
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: tell me more about death?
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I like it's it's really at this point between him
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: and Bartolomeo, because Bartolomeo is just so like irresistibly adorable fanboy,
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: you know, but s Pink just comes on the scene
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: out of nowhere so fucking weird and then having like
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: and I will never ever recover from him ripping off
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: a girl's bikini top to wipe his mouth. That is,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: in my opinion, one of the most effective and memorable
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: introductions to any character we ever got. And you just
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: see his face close up and you just have this
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: assumption about what he looks like, and then when the
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: camera pulls out and you see what he's wearing, it
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: all just doesn't go together at all. So and again
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I just assumed this is one piece people are weirdos, Okay,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: I guess he's a baby man like. I don't know.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: I just took it as that, you know, and finding
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: out that there's actually reasons for that, and that it's
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: like a lot of you know, guilt, and that he
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: used to be very fashionable and cared about clothes and
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: set that aside. All of this is it just it
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: very much appeals to me in a like exciting surprise
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: backstory way, which frankly, like Barcelo, mao, we don't even
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: get that much backstory on him. All we see in
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: his past is that he loved the straw Hats as
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: soon as he heard about them and then got obsessed
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: and that was his whole life. And you know, he
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: had his own pirates, but like just kind of to
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: meet the straw Hats. It wasn't even really like he
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: wanted to do his own things so much. So in
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: a way, since your pink edges him out a little
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: bit because his backstory is richer. And also just like
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: his lines are so over dramatic and noir, you know,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: and that is really really fun. So he might be
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: my favorite. It really is tough to say. I feel
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: like whatever episod so what I watch, if they were
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: in it, they will be my favorite until the next
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: time I watch an episode with the other one in it.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: Absolutely fair, I no, I just wanted to hear it
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: because I was wondering because like, oh, the favorite interesting,
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: not totally not like surprised or anything, because yes, he
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: deservably I would give him that spot. But yeah, you
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: were like such a bartle you like you were the
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: fan pole. You are the fanboy of Bartolomeo's fanboy, you know.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely also super fair.
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: I love Bartolomeo. He's great.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: I'm so like gratified by the fact that when we
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: first meet him, even though he's being a dick, I
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: was still sort of like, I don't know, I kind
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: of like him. And then it turns out like there's
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: other reasons actually that you can like him that are legit,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: so just wait for those. Yeah, I really like, I
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: don't know what to hope for because I feel like
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: this arc ends and then maybe we don't see them
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: that much for a while and that makes me sad.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they'll be around. I don't know.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: I mean, we have like Law, It's also has been
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: now around for like two arcs, so who knows. VV
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: was also another stayed around it, so there's potential. There's possibility,
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: but most people don't like with most characters, this does
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: not happen.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: So yeah, we will see.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: I know we don't have a lot of time left,
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: but honestly, you have said everything that this needs to
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: be said about Currs, about Rebecca, about what's his name, Diamanthe,
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: which is like the next half episode. Is there anything
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: out of this that you want to talk about?
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: I love it. You're basically like, we can pretty much
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: skip this right, and I am fully on that like
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: there's nothing like the only thing is that Diamante does
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: this ridiculously over the top attack. I can't get over
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: how much everybody is just making attacks that would kill
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: everyone within like a four mile radius, and they just
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: don't care about passers by fucking innocent bystanders at all.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: But yeah, this rain of like spiky stars that falls down, sir,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: I am going to need you to fucking it's just
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: and he assumes that they're all dead. Rebecca gets saved
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: by Robin again, and then Kiros is just out here
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: like hitting them with his sword and managing to like
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: get them all to a fall away from him, which
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: I will say, it was funny when ty Monte is
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: just like what and actually says I think he just says, wow,
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: he admits he's impressed, which was kind of funny to me.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: We did get a reminder about like Rebecca her mother
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: being the reason why she's so determined to be a pacifist,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: which I didn't even really remember that well, and so
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: her father is determined for her to like keep the
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: spirit of her mother alive by never having to be violent.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: I think the reminder helped a little with me being
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: really annoyed by this, but it's honestly kind of too
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: late now. I feel like the emphasis on what her
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: mother taught her was not emphasized enough throughout other episodes.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: I really think that if this was going to be
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: more satisfying, we should have seen her struggling to want
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: to hurt people and resisting because of her mother and
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: trying to keep make her mother proud and taking hits
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: that she could have avoided for her mother's sake, and
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: then maybe I would care more about this. But it
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: just really comes across as like she boring.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: You know it is. I mean, I'm just gonna say it,
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: and I feel like it sums it up. Is wasted potential,
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: and I feel like that is that is why this
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: part of the story is kind of infuriating. I feel
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: like it comes down to that, because you just came
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: up with another thing I can. I can tell you
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: like ten things that I think about would be more
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: interesting or cooler anything. Yeah, literally anything. And that is
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: kind of a shame about this character because I again potential.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: I wish to be more for her, you know, to
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: be there more for her, but there's just this so.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, but yeah, that's about it with them,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: So I think we're done talking about them. That's fine.
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: Yeah, honestly you have talked enough about that. Yeah, I see.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: We had enough time for like one episode and a
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: half and filled the whole time, so it's fine.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: See it works out absolutely.
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: And I could talk about in depth about the fabulous,
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: outstanding sendor Pink because he deserves it.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Ah, send your pink, wake up and go have a coffee. No,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. Go have like a whiskey straight up
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: with Frankie. Please, that's all I want. H All right, Florien,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: thank you so much for joining me. This is delightful
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: it was. Is there anything else that you want to
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: say before we wrap this up?
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: I don't anything in particular enjoying that you're still enjoyed.
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: I was kind of worried that you would not enjoy
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: like this portion of the arc so much and you
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: but you said it yourself that like the side characters actually,
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: so there are always some that are interesting, you know,
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: like Meal or like Baby five. You know, like there
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: are things that you can enjoy in these episodes. And
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: I'm really happy about that because that that was my
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: wory in this arc, that there would be stretches where
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: you would be like totally interested. Yeah, but I'm happy
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: to see that that's not the case.
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, I've been really happy with this one.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: It's so funny because, you know, hearing it was the
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: longest arc, I was like, oh boy, I don't know.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: Maybe that's part of why I'm enjoying it is that
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: I was like geared up for it to be really tedious,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: and so it just was a pleasant surprise that it wasn't.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: But either way, I'm having a really good time, so
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to, uh to what comes next. All Right, Well,
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: thank you so much. I really appreciate you being here.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: This is always fun to have you on and everybody listening.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: I hope they enjoyed the show, and forgive me for
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: not watching the third episode, but I think it's fine,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: And until next time to the li motherfuckers. That was
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: an Unspoiled Network podcast.
