- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 1: This is Stephen Right, you know, listening to tech talk Radio. Yeah,
- 0:07Speaker 1: some alung that line.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess that was it.
- 0:12Speaker 1: All right, let's go with it. I love it.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I'll say it anyway.
- 0:19Speaker 2: All right, this is Stephen Right, and you're listening to
- 0:21Speaker 2: tech talk Radio.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But you know I've already been saying that I love you,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Stephen Kill. Welcome to another episode of tech talk Radio.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird. Changes again because
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm looking at Sean's setup. Last week we talked about
- 0:43Speaker 1: him and so what did you added a an old
- 0:46Speaker 1: iPhone iPhone seven in the back, and but now you've
- 0:49Speaker 1: changed it again.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Well, I had I had a Gopra mounted there before,
- 0:54Speaker 3: and I had just hadn't run the cables to it.
- 0:56Speaker 3: If they run it the way I want, about twenty
- 0:57Speaker 3: feet up the wall, through the drop ceiling, make it
- 1:00Speaker 3: look nice. So I bought a thirty foot HDMI a
- 1:02Speaker 3: twenty five foot USB to power it. But the HDMI
- 1:05Speaker 3: is still good.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Oh, run this thing that you're ceiling, get the drop,
- 1:09Speaker 1: get it right where you want it. And you're getting.
- 1:12Speaker 3: No good at it. No no good.
- 1:13Speaker 1: You're doing this with an old GoPro. If somebody didn't
- 1:16Speaker 1: want to take an old iPhone or an old Android
- 1:19Speaker 1: device and use a GoPro. You're not using the most
- 1:22Speaker 1: recent GoPro, which could be kind of pricey.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't even know what to do. What's go for?
- 1:26Speaker 3: I think it's around the Hero twelve or Hero thirteen.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Now they're like almost five hundred bucks.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's an average pressure of them. So I'm
- 1:34Speaker 3: running a Hero three plus, which is the last GoPro
- 1:37Speaker 3: that I've personally bought myself. I like it. It just works.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Isn't a GoPro though? When you use them, you used
- 1:43Speaker 1: to get a kind of a wide angle, almost a
- 1:46Speaker 1: fish eye type of lens look, and you can eliminate that.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Everybody thinks, oh, I'm always going to get a fish
- 1:52Speaker 3: eye with these, right, So this does not look fishy. No,
- 1:55Speaker 3: I mean it's wide, but this is on its most
- 1:58Speaker 3: it's on it. You can do you on this one,
- 2:00Speaker 3: at least probably with the newer ones. I'm not even
- 2:02Speaker 3: sure because I haven't really really shot the video. On
- 2:05Speaker 3: the new ones, you can do narrow, medium or wide.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Go pros are pretty pretty sturdy cameras. I've actually I've
- 2:13Speaker 1: shot weddings and I've had it as a backup camera.
- 2:17Speaker 1: You know, if I wanted to go to a full
- 2:18Speaker 1: shot of the you know, of the crowd, you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I'll have it record on a go Pro, I'll have
- 2:25Speaker 1: it record on my main system. I'll have a record
- 2:27Speaker 1: on another camera that captures from a different angle. And
- 2:32Speaker 1: it's great because I have that footage there of the
- 2:34Speaker 1: full crowd or from behind, like maybe even use two
- 2:37Speaker 1: of them. And it's been great for the old go
- 2:40Speaker 1: pros could still be used today capture all kinds of
- 2:43Speaker 1: great stuff.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it kind of revolutionized action sports. I bought a
- 2:47Speaker 3: GoPro back in my first go pro back in two
- 2:50Speaker 3: thousand and eight. I worked for a small web marketing
- 2:53Speaker 3: company and we did a lot of stock car racing
- 2:55Speaker 3: for the ARCA Reback series and they were looking for
- 2:57Speaker 3: some in car camera systems to record stuff. I just
- 3:00Speaker 3: happened to find this camera and I was like, oh,
- 3:02Speaker 3: what is this. This is a cool looking thing. I
- 3:03Speaker 3: found it on some third party website. I don't even
- 3:06Speaker 3: think GoPro had was selling them by themselves yet. I
- 3:08Speaker 3: think they were only selling in for resellers, and so
- 3:10Speaker 3: I bought it, and yeah, I think it launched in
- 3:13Speaker 3: two thousand and eight and it was just called the
- 3:15Speaker 3: GoPro Hero. Then they updated to the HD Hero and
- 3:18Speaker 3: then the Hero two and then the Hero three. So
- 3:21Speaker 3: I mean, but they're all the way up to.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Well and they've got competition now. I mean we've talked
- 3:25Speaker 1: about it before. The Issaco brand, I think it's a
- 3:28Speaker 1: Socco or a Shacko. They have a camera that when
- 3:32Speaker 1: you look at the price difference between the action cameras, like,
- 3:34Speaker 1: we had a listener that had a son to ten
- 3:36Speaker 1: year old son that wanted an action camera, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: wanted to put it on different devices and be able
- 3:43Speaker 1: to tape with it, and she didn't. She was a
- 3:45Speaker 1: little hesitant about spending you know, four hundred and five
- 3:48Speaker 1: hundred bucks at a camera like this. So we recommend, well, one,
- 3:51Speaker 1: why not start smaller, Start with a Shako or some
- 3:55Speaker 1: of the other brands that are out there that are
- 3:58Speaker 1: not as expensive and could give you good results, and
- 4:01Speaker 1: then they can grow into go pro and understand difference
- 4:05Speaker 1: between them.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you had Sony had had one.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you had Vivtar they had one.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Kodak made one. I mean, Nikon made one, Insta three
- 4:14Speaker 3: sixty made one, dj I made one. Go Pro kicked
- 4:17Speaker 3: it off, and then everybody, you know, then the cheap
- 4:19Speaker 3: Chinese ones came floating into the market. Right Yeah, so
- 4:21Speaker 3: now pretty much any you can buy five different brands
- 4:24Speaker 3: that are exactly the same.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Who would you say is probably their biggest competition? Is
- 4:28Speaker 1: it gonna be Dji or Ai and Instant three sixty
- 4:31Speaker 1: into three sixties? I love, But to me, it just
- 4:35Speaker 1: seems like it would be really difficult if I don't
- 4:37Speaker 1: want that big convex shot of the world below. Because
- 4:42Speaker 1: for those who don't know, maybe you've seen a motorcyclist
- 4:44Speaker 1: riding around town and they got a little stick on
- 4:46Speaker 1: their their their motorcycle. This there's a camera on that
- 4:50Speaker 1: and it will get rid of that stick and then
- 4:53Speaker 1: it looks like it's floating above the rider. But it
- 4:56Speaker 1: could give a full three hundred and sixty degree view,
- 4:59Speaker 1: which is pretty amaze. But sometimes the views are way
- 5:02Speaker 1: out there. Other times I've seen them more along the
- 5:05Speaker 1: lines of maybe a go Pro. I mean, they could
- 5:08Speaker 1: do some really amazing things.
- 5:09Speaker 3: There's a niche market. GoPro just made it easy and
- 5:12Speaker 3: I'll say this. I'll say this to you. They screwed
- 5:14Speaker 3: the pooch with their Karma drone.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Yeah, what happened was it was it too good or
- 5:20Speaker 1: was it just the well?
- 5:21Speaker 3: So they were they partnered. So they had a weird
- 5:25Speaker 3: I don't even know how to really explain it. I
- 5:27Speaker 3: don't want to call it partnership. But three D Robotics, yep,
- 5:30Speaker 3: three D r had it had had a drone that
- 5:33Speaker 3: they had a gimbal mount on it that just mounted
- 5:36Speaker 3: your GoPro. So GoPro said, hey, this is great, here's
- 5:39Speaker 3: an accessory that works with three D Robotics. Then they
- 5:41Speaker 3: went and made their own and called it the Karma.
- 5:44Speaker 3: And on launch of the Karma, they had almost ninety
- 5:48Speaker 3: percent battery failure within like the first ten minutes of flight.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that's dropping out this guy. That's not good.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And it just they put so much money into it.
- 5:56Speaker 3: They just they've wiped it. They've wiped the Karma from
- 5:59Speaker 3: the face of the planet. It's so hard to find
- 6:01Speaker 3: any information about it, but it was so terrible. Everybody
- 6:03Speaker 3: just want to DJI.
- 6:04Speaker 1: And DJI has been doing some great things with their
- 6:07Speaker 1: you know, power supplies. Now it's kind of like they
- 6:10Speaker 1: shifted their focus. And I don't know if they did
- 6:13Speaker 1: that because of pending litigation or whatnot from you know,
- 6:17Speaker 1: the United States.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I just think I just think with the lithium ion
- 6:21Speaker 3: technology and the lithium iron, the life Lifo plus the
- 6:25Speaker 3: lifeop whatever Lifo batteries are coming out, that's that's the
- 6:30Speaker 3: technology that's going into this stuff, right, So why not
- 6:34Speaker 3: if you're investing in that for drones and stuff, you're
- 6:37Speaker 3: gonna want to invest in the power plants themselves, like
- 6:39Speaker 3: the solar generators and stuff. And it makes sense. Yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 3: And really it's you're targeting the outdoor community, the outdoor enthusiast, right,
- 6:48Speaker 3: You're not just targeting the camera person. You're targeting an
- 6:53Speaker 3: entire life, lifestyle, life culture. Now I foresee them. They'll
- 6:56Speaker 3: probably be making their own solar panels at some points
- 6:59Speaker 3: once the technolog decreases in costs to make the solar
- 7:02Speaker 3: panels and stuff, I think you'll be seeing more of
- 7:05Speaker 3: those companies also, including solar panels, not just the chargers, right,
- 7:09Speaker 3: because they have rock you have rock Pals, Jaquerie, DGI.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Anchor, Anchors, Doing.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Anchor, a couple other big ones. That's where it's going.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I love their ACT campaign because it is about the outdoors.
- 7:20Speaker 1: How they can quickly recharge a drone if they're out there,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you know, trying to get some fun video and whatnot.
- 7:26Speaker 1: They could recharge it in a minimum amount of time.
- 7:29Speaker 1: They could run their devices they may need for a
- 7:32Speaker 1: camping trip. That's what they're able to do now with
- 7:35Speaker 1: this new DGI portable power bank, which is I mean,
- 7:37Speaker 1: it's good.
- 7:38Speaker 3: It's it's good. It's right on our camper. We've got
- 7:41Speaker 3: two hundred watts for the sore that recharges our AMG
- 7:45Speaker 3: twelve OL battery for off the grid camping. I mean
- 7:49Speaker 3: one one big deep cell battery for that is not great,
- 7:53Speaker 3: but it gets overnight and then it recharges during the
- 7:55Speaker 3: day when it's sunny. It won't run the air conditioning
- 7:59Speaker 3: or stuff like that. But what you have short power.
- 8:00Speaker 1: For, right, did you see the story about the bear
- 8:03Speaker 1: in Bontana. You know, we're talking about GoPro this and
- 8:06Speaker 1: one thing that kind of surprises me. They lost this
- 8:10Speaker 1: go pro camera for from what I understand, it was
- 8:12Speaker 1: a couple of months and a brown bear comes along,
- 8:17Speaker 1: finds this starts trying to chomp on it. Next thing,
- 8:20Speaker 1: you know, he starts it up, and so.
- 8:22Speaker 3: It's it's funny because you've seen when GoPros came out
- 8:26Speaker 3: there everywhere right around the world. You give people access
- 8:29Speaker 3: to cameras and they're gonna do cool stuff. You see
- 8:31Speaker 3: them mounting them on dogs, cats, birds, sealing them out
- 8:34Speaker 3: of the sky, that kind of stuff. But to a bear, yeah,
- 8:38Speaker 3: I mean you've seen them where they an animal will
- 8:41Speaker 3: eat it or try to chew on it or something, right,
- 8:43Speaker 3: And but this one was interesting because but a bear
- 8:46Speaker 3: finds this camera somehow. Man, it's just just just by
- 8:49Speaker 3: I'm assuming, just biting on it or turns it on.
- 8:51Speaker 3: And there's a video clip of this bear and it's
- 8:53Speaker 3: about four four minutes long. It looks like it's just
- 8:56Speaker 3: somebody setting it up. But then you see these big
- 8:58Speaker 3: paws and then you see his face and it's.
- 9:00Speaker 1: It's almost like it took a selfie, isn't it.
- 9:02Speaker 3: I mean yeah, I mean everybody that uses the GoPro
- 9:05Speaker 3: has has has a go pro selfie. Yeah, right, and
- 9:09Speaker 3: I've got I've got several of them. And yeah, it's
- 9:11Speaker 3: kind of comical because it's like this weird, distorted, like
- 9:14Speaker 3: a fish eye look of your face. But this is
- 9:16Speaker 3: clever because it's pretty impressive that this bear turned.
- 9:18Speaker 1: It on so easy a bear could do it. And
- 9:20Speaker 1: again you can see this on our blog blog tech
- 9:23Speaker 1: talk radio dot com. I mean, yeah, oh, there you go.
- 9:25Speaker 1: There was the selfie. There's the selfie. Yeah, there's just
- 9:28Speaker 1: inside of his mouth. It's like you can Yeah, it's
- 9:31Speaker 1: the addentist. Did the bear male the go pro back
- 9:35Speaker 1: to the original owner? I mean, how did they find
- 9:37Speaker 1: the They must have just found the camera.
- 9:40Speaker 3: It doesn't say somebody must have found it.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Can you imagine, Sean? I mean, you like getting out
- 9:45Speaker 1: in the wild and you lose a camera, you lose it.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I've heard people go through this with their smartphone and
- 9:50Speaker 1: then they get it back and the footage that they
- 9:52Speaker 1: find sometimes it's a little extra. You imagine the person
- 9:55Speaker 1: who owned this go pro gets this camera back and
- 9:58Speaker 1: there is this bear chop it on it. I mean
- 10:00Speaker 1: it is priceless.
- 10:02Speaker 3: I mean you imagine loading that footage of going it's cool.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna somebody find a go Pro and they're gonna
- 10:07Speaker 3: see what's on it and then watching that, Yeah, that's wild.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to do some more research figure out
- 10:13Speaker 3: exactly how that happens.
- 10:15Speaker 1: We'll have the link so you can watch the full
- 10:17Speaker 1: video get up on the website. We like to tell
- 10:19Speaker 1: you about stuff that's coming up. Of course, the next
- 10:22Speaker 1: Apple event is happening. Let's see, it'll be a week
- 10:25Speaker 1: from Monday, September ninth, which is gonna be a little
- 10:29Speaker 1: different than how they've done things in the past. For
- 10:32Speaker 1: some reason, I don't know why, but Monday. They've never
- 10:35Speaker 1: done it on a Monday. They've always done it on
- 10:37Speaker 1: a Tuesday, you know, where they've announced a brand new
- 10:40Speaker 1: product and they're they're talking about I don't know, they're
- 10:44Speaker 1: talking about the iPhone sixteen. I don't know, are you it?
- 10:48Speaker 3: Just I think so there'll be some sort of announcement
- 10:51Speaker 3: on the next iteration of the m chip right and
- 10:54Speaker 3: for whatever that's gonna look like, you're gonna see that.
- 10:58Speaker 3: You're gonna see probably a new iMac or a new
- 11:03Speaker 3: studio MAC studio. But I think we're going to see
- 11:08Speaker 3: a new vision.
- 11:08Speaker 1: A new vision for Is that why you think maybe
- 11:10Speaker 1: they're they're switching and doing it on a Monday.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I don't know. I think we're going to see another
- 11:14Speaker 3: vision or a vision light or a vision not a
- 11:17Speaker 3: vision pro but like a vision light or something that's
- 11:20Speaker 3: going to compete with the meta, right, something that's going
- 11:23Speaker 3: to compete with the vibe, the you know, the riffs, those.
- 11:27Speaker 1: You don't think they're giving that up at this point.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I mean because it's been you know, it was a
- 11:32Speaker 1: lot of excitement when it was first announced and for
- 11:34Speaker 1: those who don't know, this is their you know, their
- 11:36Speaker 1: version of you know, virtual reality, augmented reality, and then
- 11:40Speaker 1: it just kind of got quiet.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I just it's not what people want, right. It's like
- 11:44Speaker 3: three D TV. Everybody thought it was cool and you
- 11:48Speaker 3: had a bunch of people early divers go out and
- 11:50Speaker 3: buy three dtvs and glasses, but then people would come
- 11:53Speaker 3: over to your house and be like, oh, I've only
- 11:54Speaker 3: got one pair of glasses. Let's watch the World Cup
- 11:57Speaker 3: in three D right, shot like three events and three D,
- 12:02Speaker 3: and then it was just like worthless. It's weird because
- 12:05Speaker 3: you think it's cool. Like VR is cool, you just
- 12:09Speaker 3: have to really get people to latch onto it. You
- 12:12Speaker 3: have to get people to engage with it. You have
- 12:14Speaker 3: to have content for people to do in it, and
- 12:16Speaker 3: Oculus that has that with Meta.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I love the demos that they were doing with vision.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I mean the demos of having that, you know, the
- 12:25Speaker 1: menu system in front of them and being able to
- 12:28Speaker 1: select and you know, yeah, I'm used to looking at
- 12:31Speaker 1: a monitor or even a laptop. I played it. I
- 12:34Speaker 1: played Call of Duty the other day, which I haven't
- 12:36Speaker 1: played a game in forever, and it just it was
- 12:38Speaker 1: exciting for me. Now, if I had to put on
- 12:41Speaker 1: a headset, it'd be a whole different type of experience,
- 12:45Speaker 1: and I don't know if i'd be into it as much.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I think some people like it because you can
- 12:49Speaker 3: extend desktops and have it just in your field visisi, Like,
- 12:53Speaker 3: you can just extend your desktop and have it there
- 12:54Speaker 3: as big as small as you want, right, right, And
- 12:56Speaker 3: I could see it for productivity, right, But that's not
- 13:00Speaker 3: people want these four right. People want to play games,
- 13:03Speaker 3: people want to watch movies, People want to engage with
- 13:07Speaker 3: the content, right, Like Apple is smart about things like this, right,
- 13:12Speaker 3: they understand there's a need for these types of things,
- 13:14Speaker 3: but they gate keep people with their price. Yeah, right,
- 13:17Speaker 3: It's just it's When I was watching the event with
- 13:21Speaker 3: a coworker of mine who has been an Apple fanatic
- 13:24Speaker 3: since the eighties and has had and lived out out
- 13:27Speaker 3: in California and did Apple developer conferences. He's been there, right,
- 13:30Speaker 3: and he was like excited for a new product, and
- 13:32Speaker 3: we were watching it and he's like, oh, this this
- 13:35Speaker 3: is great, Like this is gonna be right in that
- 13:37Speaker 3: you know it's gonna be twenty five hundred dollars max, Right,
- 13:41Speaker 3: that's what he was saying, like that. I was betting
- 13:42Speaker 3: around twenty five hundred dollars, right, And then they dropped
- 13:45Speaker 3: this forty nine hundred dollars price tag. Yeah, and immediately
- 13:49Speaker 3: immediate technological turnoff, right, just done, not even not even
- 13:53Speaker 3: interested anymore. It's gonna be cool. Maybe I'll get to
- 13:56Speaker 3: try it one day, but I don't know anybody that
- 13:58Speaker 3: has one. I don't know what anybody that pooned up
- 14:00Speaker 3: the money to buy it.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Apple was for a while. I don't know if
- 14:04Speaker 1: they're still doing it. But there was a come on
- 14:05Speaker 1: into the store. You could experience it, but you had
- 14:08Speaker 1: to sign up for it. There was a line, you know,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and then were people but.
- 14:12Speaker 3: We'll go to What good is that the average joke
- 14:15Speaker 3: could go to Apple and try it.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just getting people into.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Their store, right, It's like that's salesman one oh one,
- 14:21Speaker 3: if you can get people into your store, they're likely
- 14:23Speaker 3: going to buy something. Here's this new flashy thing. Come
- 14:25Speaker 3: try it. Well, now you're in my store, and now
- 14:26Speaker 3: buy someone else. You can't compete. Try and compete in
- 14:31Speaker 3: the VR market. I don't even know if they're trying
- 14:33Speaker 3: to compete because they're technically completely separate products. Like you have,
- 14:36Speaker 3: the vision pro is productivity, and that's what they're pushing, productivity, productivity.
- 14:40Speaker 3: There's no games for it. How are they any games
- 14:42Speaker 3: for it? And if they were to drop the price
- 14:46Speaker 3: by half and put games on it, Apple, Arcade, Netflix,
- 14:51Speaker 3: Disney Plus, you name it, they it, they would sell
- 14:56Speaker 3: so many.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Let me ask you the first time you experience virtual
- 15:01Speaker 1: reality or augmented reality? Was it the type of device
- 15:04Speaker 1: that you put was it mata or was it the
- 15:06Speaker 1: type of device you put your smartphone in the front
- 15:09Speaker 1: and you had to get in an app and you would
- 15:11Speaker 1: do it that way even better.
- 15:14Speaker 3: The Nintendo Virtual Boy.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I don't even remember that.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Oh it was Google it. It's a Nintendo Virtual Boy.
- 15:21Speaker 3: If anybody has it's it's It was a little tiny
- 15:25Speaker 3: LCD screen. It was terrible, really, that was my first Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 3: our experience but no. My first VR experience was a
- 15:34Speaker 3: Rift S so Oculus rift S, gifted to me by
- 15:39Speaker 3: a friend of mine who had upgraded and didn't want
- 15:41Speaker 3: his old Rift anymore. It's hardwired in display port UH
- 15:45Speaker 3: and power somewhat adjustable to wearing glasses, you know, if
- 15:49Speaker 3: you can get you can get the individual lenses if
- 15:51Speaker 3: you want for your prescription whatever. But it's it's still
- 15:56Speaker 3: wildly immersive and I enjoy it and I like to
- 16:00Speaker 3: play walk about mini golf with my friends. You like
- 16:03Speaker 3: to do flight simulator in it. I like to do
- 16:05Speaker 3: Formula one in it, like with the racing wheel. I
- 16:08Speaker 3: did dirt rally with it. There are plenty of games
- 16:12Speaker 3: and then that are fun to play with, and again,
- 16:15Speaker 3: it is immersive. It's fun to play, it's fun to
- 16:18Speaker 3: sit in and you don't realize how engaged you are
- 16:21Speaker 3: with it until you're in it, and then you're like, oh,
- 16:25Speaker 3: I can look around the world and I'm in and
- 16:27Speaker 3: I'm immersed. And that's what people want. People want to
- 16:31Speaker 3: escape reality. That's why it's called virtual reality. But you
- 16:34Speaker 3: have that one side of the people that want to
- 16:36Speaker 3: do be productive, because if you can make a technology
- 16:41Speaker 3: productive and increase the productivity of people with it, that
- 16:45Speaker 3: that's gonna make you money by saving money. But people
- 16:49Speaker 3: don't want to be productive with virtual reality. They want
- 16:52Speaker 3: to play games and watch movies.
- 16:54Speaker 1: It is kind of funny, though, when I'm at home,
- 16:56Speaker 1: even I don't like to wear headphones. I don't I
- 16:59Speaker 1: like to if I'm at home, even if I'm home alone,
- 17:02Speaker 1: I don't like to wear headphones. Even though the sound
- 17:04Speaker 1: can be sometimes a little more dynamic with the three
- 17:07Speaker 1: sixty feel of sound. I get a little nervous because,
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know, I'm just like everybody else. Somebody gonna break
- 17:15Speaker 1: into my house, I'm not gonna hear them, you know,
- 17:17Speaker 1: Or if somebody's gonna be at the door, I'm not
- 17:19Speaker 1: gonna hear it. So I, you know, be wearing a
- 17:22Speaker 1: virtual headset like the Vision Pro. That would make me
- 17:25Speaker 1: a little nervous too.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you can totally get lost in it, right,
- 17:28Speaker 3: And that's the point of being immersed, right, you are
- 17:32Speaker 3: in it. I could see where this technology could get
- 17:35Speaker 3: dangerous down the road, and it's only gonna get better.
- 17:38Speaker 3: You're only gonna get more immersion, yeah, or sensory feedback,
- 17:42Speaker 3: more haptic feedback, that type of stuff. Right, we're going
- 17:44Speaker 3: full ready to player one, right, yeah, or you're gonna
- 17:47Speaker 3: be in the oasis. But you know the full haptic
- 17:50Speaker 3: suits and all that stuff. I'm sure you know. And
- 17:51Speaker 3: you got neuralink with must There's two human patients that
- 17:55Speaker 3: we know of and they're able to play games and
- 17:57Speaker 3: do stuff in just their brain like they don't even
- 17:59Speaker 3: have to you anything. Are you?
- 18:01Speaker 1: Is there burnout though? On we were getting back to
- 18:05Speaker 1: the Apple event though on the iPhone announcements, I mean,
- 18:09Speaker 1: is there burnout?
- 18:09Speaker 2: Like?
- 18:10Speaker 1: Oh, iPhone sixteen? Now, you know?
- 18:12Speaker 3: I mean it's it's diminishing returns, right, you could only
- 18:16Speaker 3: continue to get something so much before you have to
- 18:18Speaker 3: innovate a new product, right, But it.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Seems like it's almost every year. Now I know it's not,
- 18:23Speaker 1: but it just seems like it.
- 18:25Speaker 3: No, they announced a new phone almost every year. They
- 18:27Speaker 3: have to because the technology is going so fast they
- 18:31Speaker 3: have to keep up.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And AI will probably be the groundwork for what we're
- 18:35Speaker 1: gonna see from Apple.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Yeah, And I was reading something about some of the
- 18:39Speaker 3: new AI stuff that you're gonna get in with your
- 18:41Speaker 3: phone with the cameras and stuff too, Right, So you're
- 18:43Speaker 3: gonna there's gonna be some AI built into the cameras
- 18:46Speaker 3: that can do certain things. Can blur faces, it can
- 18:48Speaker 3: blur and like now you have gonna be able to
- 18:51Speaker 3: turn that off just to get a basic photo. Like
- 18:54Speaker 3: now you're gonna have AI in your photos every day,
- 18:56Speaker 3: like this is this is again, this is something I've
- 18:58Speaker 3: talked about a lot. Right, we are out pacing the
- 19:03Speaker 3: human experience with technology. Technology is taking over the human
- 19:08Speaker 3: experience literally, photos, videos. We are taking out the creative
- 19:15Speaker 3: human element with technology. And that scares me, Yeah, because
- 19:19Speaker 3: it's just that that's how our brains work. We have
- 19:23Speaker 3: to be creative, We have to do stuff, we have
- 19:24Speaker 3: to have an outlet for it. And if we're taking
- 19:26Speaker 3: that away from us, what's that going to do for
- 19:28Speaker 3: the mental psyche of the world. Right, So that's my
- 19:31Speaker 3: biggest fear.
- 19:33Speaker 1: We're letting tech do it all for us.
- 19:35Speaker 3: It's yeah, because we're lazy.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't have to.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I'm gonna admit that if I can find an easier
- 19:42Speaker 3: way to do something, I'm going to do that.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Well. I have found a way to make stuff better
- 19:46Speaker 1: using AI. You know, sometimes when I'll just need yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 1: just can't find the right wording all right, can you
- 19:51Speaker 1: redo this paragraph for me? I've had to do that,
- 19:54Speaker 1: and I'll look at it and oh, yeah, flows a
- 19:56Speaker 1: little better. Or if I quickly needs something, uppercase the
- 20:00Speaker 1: lowercase and I did that on a segment on Fox eleven.
- 20:03Speaker 1: The chat GPT can do that for you. So again,
- 20:06Speaker 1: then I don't have to sit there and retype the
- 20:08Speaker 1: whole thing, you know, even if word doesn't allow that
- 20:10Speaker 1: be to do that.
- 20:11Speaker 3: So I did get invited to the chat GPT pilot
- 20:15Speaker 3: for the university, so I've been using I've actually been
- 20:18Speaker 3: using chat gpt.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Oh wow, what do you think The goal is?
- 20:22Speaker 3: The goal is to how can I make my job
- 20:25Speaker 3: better with ai R. So the things that I found
- 20:29Speaker 3: that have been easy for it is making custom scripts.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Ye hey, I need a rosstalk command for my switcher
- 20:38Speaker 3: that will take this video input and put it on
- 20:40Speaker 3: that me and do it dissolve. I can just tell it,
- 20:43Speaker 3: make me a rostock command that will do this function
- 20:46Speaker 3: and it spits it out. I can copy it and
- 20:47Speaker 3: paste it right in, hit the button and it doesn't.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I have heard of people using chat GPT to create websites.
- 20:54Speaker 1: The coding for websites you.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Can you can tell it, Hey, I have an I
- 20:59Speaker 3: need an HTMO site and I wanted to look like this.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I want this to be the theme. I wanted to
- 21:04Speaker 3: use these pictures. And you can actually upload you can
- 21:06Speaker 3: actually put the up, put the put the pictures into
- 21:08Speaker 3: chat gibt, upload them and tell it to lay it
- 21:10Speaker 3: out just like this and it'll spin it out. Part
- 21:12Speaker 3: of that is seeing how other people are on campus
- 21:14Speaker 3: are using it. But what I what I've really found
- 21:17Speaker 3: it easy for is searching manuals oh all right, Like hey,
- 21:23Speaker 3: I'm having this problem with my TriCaster, and it says, okay,
- 21:27Speaker 3: here you can find this in the man and this
- 21:29Speaker 3: is the manual, and here it is. Instead of having
- 21:31Speaker 3: to search the manual, I can just say this is
- 21:34Speaker 3: what I want to do, and it'll just either point
- 21:36Speaker 3: me to the manual or it will find it and
- 21:39Speaker 3: put it in a way that I can read it
- 21:41Speaker 3: so I don't have to go to the manual. And
- 21:43Speaker 3: then today I was looking for the manual for the
- 21:46Speaker 3: refrigerator in my camper because I'm getting my camper ready,
- 21:48Speaker 3: right and I just said, find me the manual for
- 21:50Speaker 3: my north cold this you know this model number, and
- 21:53Speaker 3: it's spin it right out. Here's where you can find
- 21:54Speaker 3: it here' you're gonna download it amazing, Right, how do
- 21:56Speaker 3: I how do I engage night mode on my fridge?
- 21:58Speaker 1: Boop?
- 21:59Speaker 3: Here's how I engaged night mode based on this searching
- 22:02Speaker 3: the main right. It's just it's weird how easy it
- 22:05Speaker 3: is to do that stuff. But when you have the
- 22:07Speaker 3: entire web at your fingertips, it's prett easy.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Well, I think we were pretty surprised when we could
- 22:11Speaker 1: do searches with Google, and now Chat TPT is taking
- 22:16Speaker 1: that to the level. We'll have to see what happens
- 22:19Speaker 1: when Google has this integration of AI or even Chat GPT,
- 22:23Speaker 1: they're gonna have their own search engine. How that's gonna work,
- 22:26Speaker 1: And so far it sounds like from your experience it
- 22:30Speaker 1: might work out pretty good.
- 22:31Speaker 3: It's working out pretty good. And I'm curious to see
- 22:34Speaker 3: we have this whole division of the university now that's
- 22:39Speaker 3: that dedicated to AI and ethics. Right, So, but it's
- 22:43Speaker 3: gonna be curious to see the school year how that
- 22:45Speaker 3: plays out.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Gonna take another quick break, We'll be back with more
- 22:49Speaker 1: of tech Talk Radio. Just a reminder, you can check
- 22:52Speaker 1: out our blog blog dot tech talk radio dot com.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Check out the video from this segment, which is all
- 22:58Speaker 1: being recorded via AI through zoom and something new that
- 23:02Speaker 1: they're doing. We're talking about AI. They take it and
- 23:05Speaker 1: they give us a transcript. Now I haven't been using it.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I still listen to it and do that, but it's
- 23:10Speaker 1: pretty amazing how they were able to do that. I'm
- 23:12Speaker 1: Andy Taylor.
- 23:13Speaker 3: I'm Shonda word Finance on the web at tech talk
- 23:15Speaker 3: radio dot com.
- 23:17Speaker 1: And now fact to tech talk Radio.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Hey, what's up. This is Tom Arnold and you're listening
- 23:22Speaker 3: to tech Talk Radio.
- 23:24Speaker 1: They're really great and I love them.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Hey how about a copy of Windows? Can I get
- 23:28Speaker 3: a laptop? We have a couple listener questions and if
- 23:33Speaker 3: you want to have your question read on air and answered,
- 23:36Speaker 3: emails at tech Guys at tech talk radio dot com
- 23:39Speaker 3: or send us a Facebook message, we all have access
- 23:41Speaker 3: to it and can read it and respond and we'll
- 23:44Speaker 3: read your questions on the air and get you an answer.
- 23:46Speaker 3: So we've got two for you today. Jim in Tucson says,
- 23:51Speaker 3: I'm having sticky keys Windows seven laptop.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Now sticky keys. Oh boy?
- 23:56Speaker 3: Right, So Jim, I want to know is this the
- 24:00Speaker 3: where you hold the shift key down too? Long, and
- 24:02Speaker 3: it tells you sticky keys is turned on where the
- 24:05Speaker 3: shift button comes on.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Forgot about that, right?
- 24:08Speaker 3: Or are your keys physically sticking because you spilled something.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I think that's what it is.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Or something's broken. If it's a mechanical, what's a laptop,
- 24:17Speaker 3: So it's not mechanical. But but he said, he asks,
- 24:22Speaker 3: I want to upgrade to Windows ten, but only if
- 24:23Speaker 3: I can fix the keys which sometimes stick or can't
- 24:26Speaker 3: be read. Jim, I think you're just bunked, dude. I
- 24:30Speaker 3: think you just got to get a new laptop. If
- 24:31Speaker 3: you're having sticky key problems and they're not working properly,
- 24:35Speaker 3: it's either a hardware problem and you try reimaging your machine.
- 24:41Speaker 3: But upgrading to Windows ten isn't going to solve a
- 24:43Speaker 3: keyboard problem. No, like the software is not going to
- 24:46Speaker 3: fix a hardware problem.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I think what it sounds to me like he wants
- 24:50Speaker 1: to go to Windows ten. He's just on seven and
- 24:52Speaker 1: finally decided he wants to go to ten.
- 24:54Speaker 3: If you're running Windows seven and a laptop, you're likely
- 24:58Speaker 3: not going to get great performance in Windows ten anyway.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the idea of maybe a new laptop would be good. However,
- 25:03Speaker 1: if he is stuck, the keys can be replaced. Now
- 25:09Speaker 1: generally this takes if you took it to like, you know,
- 25:11Speaker 1: geek Swad, or you took it to a shop, they
- 25:15Speaker 1: might charge you quite a bit for it, because.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Right because a lot of those older laptops they have
- 25:19Speaker 3: to replace the whole top shell.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And then yeah, you gotta take the thing apart. Yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 1: you gotta take it apart. And then you gotta, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 1: unhook those cables at the bottom of the keyboard. If
- 25:30Speaker 1: they order a new keyboard put it. I've done a
- 25:32Speaker 1: couple of those, and they're actually not that bad. They
- 25:35Speaker 1: take about they could take anywhere from forty five minutes
- 25:37Speaker 1: to an hour. But then you've got to buy the
- 25:39Speaker 1: keyboard itself, which is generally gonna be about twenty to
- 25:42Speaker 1: twenty five bucks, depending on the laptop. And it also
- 25:45Speaker 1: depends on the laptop, depends how those keys are set up.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Sometimes I have found, I don't know about you, if
- 25:51Speaker 1: you take that laptop and you can do this with
- 25:54Speaker 1: a keyboard too. So you've got like just the keys
- 25:56Speaker 1: just don't feel good, maybe they stick a little. You
- 26:00Speaker 1: can actually you know, unplug it, turn it upside down
- 26:03Speaker 1: and give it a good shake, you'll be surprised that
- 26:06Speaker 1: the crumbs that fall out of it.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Or get one of the little vacuum blowers that
- 26:11Speaker 3: I got. Yeah, yeah, Sea blowers like that works great.
- 26:14Speaker 3: We bought when at work, We actually bought one of
- 26:15Speaker 3: work for cleaning our keyboards.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Right, don't stick, don't stick your hoover on top of it.
- 26:21Speaker 1: You know that you use in the home. They actually
- 26:23Speaker 1: have a portable the portable vacuum cleaner. You bought one,
- 26:26Speaker 1: I know, I bought one too. They're really good.
- 26:29Speaker 3: So if worse comes to worse and you don't want
- 26:33Speaker 3: to get a new laptop, you can buy a USB
- 26:35Speaker 3: keyboard mouse and plug it in and use it just
- 26:39Speaker 3: as is with the laptop that you kind of defeats
- 26:43Speaker 3: the purpose of a laptop. But if you have to
- 26:45Speaker 3: use a keyboard and mouse, you can disable the onboard
- 26:48Speaker 3: keyboard and use a USB keyboard mouse to keep going.
- 26:51Speaker 3: But like I said, Windows seven came out a long
- 26:54Speaker 3: time ago.
- 26:55Speaker 1: And that is funny. It doesn't seem like that long.
- 26:57Speaker 3: But it's been a good run. But it might be
- 27:00Speaker 3: time to retire to that laptop and get on a
- 27:02Speaker 3: greener pastures with Windows ten or something.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And the good news is the price that he probably
- 27:09Speaker 1: paid for the Windows seven laptop back when that came out.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Probably gonna find maybe a better performing laptop now.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Oh absolutely yeah, you're gonna find a better performing Live
- 27:20Speaker 3: up now.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Yeah, at cheaper the price for what he paid. All right,
- 27:23Speaker 1: there's the thought there, Jim, look at look at it.
- 27:26Speaker 3: See what you think. But likely it's time for an upgrade.
- 27:30Speaker 3: Speaking of upgrades, we have Sylvia and Green Valley, all right.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Sylvia her son's in high school and she wants to
- 27:36Speaker 3: get him a Chromebook. Okay, he says, no way, Mom,
- 27:41Speaker 3: not doing it. They're slow and they can't run programs
- 27:43Speaker 3: that I want. That's that's kind of true, right, Chromebooks
- 27:48Speaker 3: are not great laptops, right, And to be honest, he
- 27:52Speaker 3: wants to play Minecraft or Ropeblos, right, and you're not
- 27:56Speaker 3: going to be doing that on a chrompbook.
- 27:57Speaker 1: He's in high school. He wants to play cod the
- 27:59Speaker 1: new it's coming out.
- 28:01Speaker 3: He wants to play Minecraft, he wants to play Doom.
- 28:03Speaker 3: He wants to play you know, the games that mom
- 28:05Speaker 3: doesn't want him to play. So there is there's truth
- 28:09Speaker 3: to that statement that it can't play or do everything
- 28:13Speaker 3: he wants to do. That's true. If it's designed solely
- 28:16Speaker 3: for school work and you're word processing and you're just
- 28:20Speaker 3: doing that, that's exactly what they're meant to be. Word processing,
- 28:25Speaker 3: low impact, low performance, just because if they're only running
- 28:30Speaker 3: word processing and checking your emails, that's gonna be great.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I think for Sylvia, I think some people don't understand
- 28:39Speaker 1: what the difference is between a Chromebook and maybe a
- 28:43Speaker 1: notebook that is running Windows or even a Mac. I
- 28:48Speaker 1: guess you could say chromebook for those that don't know.
- 28:52Speaker 1: It's running an operating system developed by Google, you know
- 28:57Speaker 1: Google Chrome, of course Chromebook that is the operating system.
- 29:00Speaker 1: It's not Windows, so it's going to operate differently. There's
- 29:04Speaker 1: some things that may not run with it, some things
- 29:06Speaker 1: that will, and of course the things that will are
- 29:09Speaker 1: going to be optimized for school, you know, for education.
- 29:13Speaker 1: But again your point there Sean, Yeah, it may not
- 29:16Speaker 1: be able to run some of the games that he
- 29:18Speaker 1: wants to play in the off time. And the difference
- 29:21Speaker 1: in pricing from a Chromebook. You can find a Chromebook
- 29:24Speaker 1: for about one fifty versus I mean chromebooks can go
- 29:28Speaker 1: all the way up to about three hundred bucks. But
- 29:29Speaker 1: you can find a really pretty good, pretty good operating
- 29:33Speaker 1: PC laptop for about three hundred and fifty to about
- 29:38Speaker 1: you know, four hundred ninety nine dollars, And so that's
- 29:41Speaker 1: probably what he's trying to convince mom to do, is
- 29:43Speaker 1: not buy that one hundred and fifty dollars chromebook. Spend
- 29:45Speaker 1: the five hundred bucks and get something that maybe he'll
- 29:48Speaker 1: be a little more happier with, I think, just.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Looking at it, evaluating what he really needs to do
- 29:53Speaker 3: or what he really wants to do with it. Maybe
- 29:55Speaker 3: if he's a senior in high school, buying him something
- 29:57Speaker 3: that can last him into college, not just good.
- 30:00Speaker 1: One for Sylvia too. And if you have a follow up,
- 30:03Speaker 1: let us know what you ended up getting him, Sylvia,
- 30:05Speaker 1: because that would be, uh, that'd be kind of fun
- 30:07Speaker 1: to find out. In that case, I will tell you, Sean,
- 30:10Speaker 1: I talked to you a couple of weeks ago about
- 30:12Speaker 1: playing around with a Linux distribution called woon Boontu, and
- 30:16Speaker 1: it looks just like Windows eleven, and honestly I was
- 30:19Speaker 1: pretty happy with it. But I decided I found an
- 30:23Speaker 1: old laptop that was running Windows XP and it was
- 30:29Speaker 1: I believe it was an HP and it had. I
- 30:34Speaker 1: checked it. I plugged it in. Believe it or not,
- 30:38Speaker 1: this thing had not been running in a while. It
- 30:39Speaker 1: still had the BIOS password or the BIOS date accurate
- 30:44Speaker 1: on it. You know, usually if you unplug a laptop
- 30:47Speaker 1: or notebook or a desktop computer and just let it
- 30:50Speaker 1: sit there, that little BIOS battery that's in there will
- 30:53Speaker 1: wind out and then next thing you know, all your
- 30:56Speaker 1: settings will be gone and you'll have to reset it.
- 30:58Speaker 1: It kept my date in time, and I hadn't fired
- 31:01Speaker 1: this thing up. I hadn't fired this thing up seriously
- 31:03Speaker 1: in about six years. That was pretty amazing. So I
- 31:08Speaker 1: did plug it in. The BIOS was fine, but I
- 31:12Speaker 1: had the battery on. It was basically dead and it
- 31:15Speaker 1: can't be recharged, so I have to replace the battery.
- 31:17Speaker 1: The battery replacement on this particular HP is going to
- 31:20Speaker 1: cost me about one hundred bucks. So do I really
- 31:24Speaker 1: want to spend that on this machine? Not really? But
- 31:28Speaker 1: I thought, well, this would be a good machine to
- 31:30Speaker 1: run a distribution of Linux, the Linux Mint twenty two
- 31:34Speaker 1: a lot of people have been talking about. So what
- 31:37Speaker 1: I did is I plugged it in. I found the
- 31:39Speaker 1: power plug. I was lucky there, plugged it in. I
- 31:43Speaker 1: burned an ISO ISO of the Linux bent onto DVD
- 31:50Speaker 1: and it has a DVD reader in it, and I
- 31:53Speaker 1: went ahead and I booted up, and it saw that
- 31:58Speaker 1: and it went ahead and it opened me up next
- 32:02Speaker 1: to ide. After about it took about seven minutes. It
- 32:05Speaker 1: booted up and there was a Linux Mint screen and
- 32:09Speaker 1: I was looking at it, and then it said install
- 32:11Speaker 1: Linux Mint. And then I realized I was running a
- 32:14Speaker 1: live distribution of it, and we haven't talked about that.
- 32:18Speaker 1: So if you have a DVD or you have a
- 32:22Speaker 1: flash drive and it has Linux on it, you can
- 32:25Speaker 1: actually plug that in and boot up to that, so
- 32:27Speaker 1: you're not affecting your Windows system and instead booting up
- 32:32Speaker 1: to this Linux system with that. So I started playing
- 32:34Speaker 1: around with it and I liked it. So I clicked
- 32:36Speaker 1: on the install button because I figured I don't need
- 32:39Speaker 1: anything on this drive, and it went through the routine
- 32:44Speaker 1: and then it asked me do I want to install
- 32:47Speaker 1: it as a side kind of a sidekick, and have
- 32:51Speaker 1: it so when the system boots up, I can either
- 32:54Speaker 1: to choose to go to Windows XP or go to Linux.
- 32:59Speaker 1: And I thought that's pretty cool. I like that. So
- 33:02Speaker 1: you have options if you want to play around with Linux,
- 33:05Speaker 1: you could do a you know, live distribution, which no slick.
- 33:09Speaker 1: We've talked to him before, He's done a lot of
- 33:11Speaker 1: live distros. You can do a basically at boot up
- 33:17Speaker 1: shows whether you want to do Linux or you want
- 33:19Speaker 1: to do Windows. But I will tell you Linux Mint
- 33:22Speaker 1: twenty two is pretty full featured. I was really impressed
- 33:25Speaker 1: with it. You can do, you have office, you have
- 33:28Speaker 1: multimedia features. You know, it doesn't do Microsoft Office, does
- 33:33Speaker 1: the open I want to say, Lucha Libre open Libra
- 33:38Speaker 1: office that Savian. You have a lot of you love
- 33:42Speaker 1: a lot of features you could do with it. And
- 33:44Speaker 1: so if you have an old laptop. And this was
- 33:47Speaker 1: funny because I showed this on TV, but the battery
- 33:50Speaker 1: was dead and it took a little while to boot
- 33:52Speaker 1: up because you know, it's a little different slower Windows XP.
- 33:56Speaker 1: So I took that anchor power power bank that I have,
- 34:00Speaker 1: I plugged it in and so I booted it up
- 34:03Speaker 1: when I got to the TV station, so that way
- 34:05Speaker 1: it was full powered and I just used it that
- 34:07Speaker 1: way and it was great be able to show Linux
- 34:10Speaker 1: Man twenty two. So again I really recommend it. I
- 34:13Speaker 1: liked it.
- 34:13Speaker 3: So we're talking about Linux, right, so many of you listening,
- 34:18Speaker 3: probably some of you may have just talked about Linux
- 34:20Speaker 3: on the show before, some of you may be hearing
- 34:22Speaker 3: it for the first time.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Linux is just.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Another operating system, like Windows.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Or like Google Act, like the Chrome bos.
- 34:28Speaker 3: OS or Chrome Chromium. You can make it as complicated
- 34:32Speaker 3: as you want. They actually have the most market share
- 34:34Speaker 3: that they've had ever in history in terms of OS,
- 34:37Speaker 3: which is four point four percent of the market share,
- 34:40Speaker 3: where Mac has fifteen percent and Windows has seventy two percent.
- 34:44Speaker 3: You're not gonna be getting something that's more widely adopted
- 34:49Speaker 3: as Windows are Mac. But there are you can if
- 34:52Speaker 3: you want, if you're a computer savvy, or you think
- 34:54Speaker 3: your computer savvy, or you want to be computer savvy,
- 34:56Speaker 3: download it. Yeah, they're free, Most of them are free.
- 34:58Speaker 1: That's the thing. What is there. It's not like you're
- 35:00Speaker 1: going to a store and buying it off the shelf
- 35:02Speaker 1: and taking a shot and seeing if this, you know,
- 35:04Speaker 1: one hundred and fifteen dollars program will work for you.
- 35:07Speaker 1: You're giving it a shot, I mean, and if you
- 35:10Speaker 1: like it, you can make a donation to the developer.
- 35:12Speaker 3: I'm telling you though, the more and more they push
- 35:15Speaker 3: full featured ads in my start bar, in my home
- 35:19Speaker 3: bar in Windows. The more and more enticing it is
- 35:24Speaker 3: to jump to Linux.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's also frustrating, Sean with this whole Windows
- 35:29Speaker 1: eleven thing that you're having to people are having to
- 35:32Speaker 1: update if they're only going to be you know, it
- 35:35Speaker 1: will still work after October of next year. Windows ten, however,
- 35:39Speaker 1: you're not going to get the security updates, and they're
- 35:42Speaker 1: just It's really been frustrating for so many people. That's
- 35:46Speaker 1: why I went down this route because they said, I'm
- 35:47Speaker 1: tired of this. I'm tired of, you know, being forced
- 35:50Speaker 1: by Microsoft to suddenly have to upgrade my hardware because
- 35:54Speaker 1: I want to have this this operating system for Windows eleven.
- 35:57Speaker 1: So that's why I've been taking a look at Linux,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and I think more people will do that.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Well, I think as we get more and more bloated.
- 36:03Speaker 3: I mean, everybody loves the say convenience, right, Windows, They're
- 36:06Speaker 3: used to Windows. It's Windows, Windows, Windows, Windows. They're so
- 36:10Speaker 3: tied into Microsoft around the around the world. But people
- 36:14Speaker 3: just need to be aware, like how much data they're
- 36:17Speaker 3: actually taking from you. You're paying them most most of
- 36:20Speaker 3: the time, you're paying Windows for operating system and then
- 36:23Speaker 3: they're just taking your data and it's costing you more
- 36:27Speaker 3: to give them the data. That it Linux is going
- 36:29Speaker 3: to come around and people are going to start to
- 36:31Speaker 3: see it as an alternative to Windows as a non
- 36:36Speaker 3: ad flush.
- 36:38Speaker 1: If anybody has any questions on that field, for you
- 36:40Speaker 1: to drop me a line. Tech guys at tech talk
- 36:43Speaker 1: radio dot com. Goeta take another break. Standing by, We're
- 36:46Speaker 1: going to be talking with the manager for the brand
- 36:50Speaker 1: new Cursu which is opening in the Tucson Mall. They've
- 36:55Speaker 1: got a pretty good tech department as well, and I
- 36:57Speaker 1: gotta tell you after a visit to the the Currosow
- 37:01Speaker 1: that has been here for a while on sixth and
- 37:04Speaker 1: the E ten, that's pretty impressed. I'll tell you why,
- 37:07Speaker 1: and we'll talk to the manager about what they're doing
- 37:09Speaker 1: with this brand new location. Coming up on tech talk Radio,
- 37:12Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor.
- 37:13Speaker 3: I'm sean to word find us on Facebook tech Talkers.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Now back to tip talk Radio. So not long ago,
- 37:22Speaker 1: I decided I needed to do some shopping now for
- 37:25Speaker 1: our tech segment that I do on News thirteen Fox eleven.
- 37:30Speaker 1: You know, I get to a point sometimes where I
- 37:33Speaker 1: just get so busy I can't reach out to companies
- 37:36Speaker 1: and get them to send me stuff to show on TV.
- 37:38Speaker 1: So I go out and I buy it, especially if
- 37:40Speaker 1: it's product that I think I'm gonna want to use.
- 37:43Speaker 1: And you know, we were me and Gloria were talking
- 37:45Speaker 1: about the fact that we had never ever been to
- 37:47Speaker 1: Currosow and Curse How is a retail store that is
- 37:52Speaker 1: off sixth and the E ten And I see, you know,
- 37:56Speaker 1: I really want to go. I want to go on,
- 37:58Speaker 1: but I also wanted to go to that market that
- 38:00Speaker 1: it's there because they sell Thrifties ice cream that's next
- 38:02Speaker 1: door to it. But I thought, Okay, I really want
- 38:04Speaker 1: to check this out, so I decided let's go. So
- 38:07Speaker 1: we went and it was a I believe it was
- 38:10Speaker 1: a Sunday or Saturday, uh, and it was. I was
- 38:14Speaker 1: so amazed, number one, how big this location is, but
- 38:18Speaker 1: also how great everybody was in the store. And I'm
- 38:22Speaker 1: not just saying that. You know, you get to a
- 38:25Speaker 1: point sometimes where you go into retail and everybody's like
- 38:28Speaker 1: there because they got to be there. You know, they're
- 38:30Speaker 1: they're making their paycheck, not a curse out. I felt
- 38:33Speaker 1: like everybody that was there wanted to be there. They
- 38:37Speaker 1: were friendly. When I asked, where's the tech, you know,
- 38:40Speaker 1: I was pointed like right there, and it's right up
- 38:43Speaker 1: in front, and just it was just a really great
- 38:46Speaker 1: shopping experience and pricing was really good. And I remember Gloria,
- 38:50Speaker 1: you know, was very happy too, because they have a
- 38:52Speaker 1: children's betting section because you know, my grandson comes over
- 38:56Speaker 1: and she wanted to get this little race car bed
- 38:58Speaker 1: and was looking and she said, she actually said to
- 39:00Speaker 1: the a sales clerk that was helping us, I wish
- 39:03Speaker 1: you were a little closer because we live on the
- 39:06Speaker 1: northwest side of Tucson, which is a bit of a
- 39:08Speaker 1: track to get over to sixth and they put a
- 39:11Speaker 1: big smile on their faces. Well, it looks like you're
- 39:13Speaker 1: going to get the opportunity Curseal's going to be opening
- 39:16Speaker 1: a brand new location, and I was so excited to
- 39:19Speaker 1: hear about that. I've been waiting, waiting, waiting. Finally we
- 39:22Speaker 1: get a chance to talk to Alison Gaxiola, who is
- 39:25Speaker 1: the manager for the brand new location of curs Ow,
- 39:29Speaker 1: which is going to be at the Tucson Mall. Allison,
- 39:31Speaker 1: it's great to talk to you.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Hi. Yeah, Well, first of all, thank you for going
- 39:35Speaker 2: into our store, we are we focused a lot on
- 39:38Speaker 2: customer experience, so I'm glad that you like the experience there.
- 39:42Speaker 2: People treated you well. We don't like to put pressure
- 39:45Speaker 2: on anybody, but yes, thank you for coming all the
- 39:48Speaker 2: way over there. But the good news is, like you said,
- 39:50Speaker 2: we are going to open a new location in the
- 39:52Speaker 2: Tucson month, So we're going to be moving to a bigger,
- 39:55Speaker 2: more convenient spot for most people. So that's going to
- 39:58Speaker 2: give us the fortunity to offer even more affordable, quality
- 40:02Speaker 2: products and different financing options that have already helped millions
- 40:05Speaker 2: in the past.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Oh. Absolutely. If you look at Curse Out and the
- 40:09Speaker 1: history of the company and you go back, I mean
- 40:11Speaker 1: they've got they've got it. It started as what from
- 40:14Speaker 1: what from what I understand, was a door to door
- 40:16Speaker 1: operation of sales in Los Angeles in that area.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Yees, yeah, exactly started door to door. The La riots happened,
- 40:25Speaker 2: it burned to the ground, they got a new location
- 40:27Speaker 2: and they've been on ever since and just they just
- 40:30Speaker 2: keep growing.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Yep. Now we have locations in I know, California, Arizona.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Now do you have some others in Nevada.
- 40:38Speaker 2: We're in Las Vegas as well.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you can't go wrong with Vegas. Somebody needs something,
- 40:42Speaker 1: you're there for a show. There they go. Now then
- 40:49Speaker 1: I think our listeners should understand too. And you know,
- 40:51Speaker 1: I am the tech guy. I'm a techie, so I
- 40:53Speaker 1: love the technology. But uh, they offer kind of a
- 40:56Speaker 1: wide range of different products.
- 40:58Speaker 2: We do. Yeah, so we have high quality electronics and
- 41:02Speaker 2: home essentials, so without training your budget, there's options for
- 41:06Speaker 2: basically all of your home shopping all at once. Given beauty,
- 41:09Speaker 2: we have a fashion department, so it's just the one
- 41:11Speaker 2: stop story. But it's great.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Yeah. I was shown the line of purses by Gloria
- 41:16Speaker 1: that were there, Like, I want that one? What that one?
- 41:20Speaker 1: What that one? Now? How One of the things I noticed, Alison,
- 41:25Speaker 1: was that the tech section that's in there was pretty
- 41:29Speaker 1: fall I mean, not only did you have a great
- 41:31Speaker 1: selection of televisions, but like you had these Harmon cardon
- 41:35Speaker 1: speaker systems that was on display and playing music and everything.
- 41:38Speaker 1: But I'll be honest, I have not seen any these
- 41:41Speaker 1: in retail anywhere else, and we decided we wanted to
- 41:44Speaker 1: get them because I've seen them on online but never
- 41:48Speaker 1: in store to get an actual demonstration. How do you
- 41:51Speaker 1: decide like what products are going to be on display
- 41:54Speaker 1: and how tech not how tech you're going to be,
- 41:57Speaker 1: because I from what I understand, you did even get motherboards, right.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Yeah, So we want to stay competitive with the market,
- 42:03Speaker 2: so we do observe what the competitors have and what
- 42:06Speaker 2: we should be having, and obviously what people are looking
- 42:09Speaker 2: for as well. So all of our products inside of
- 42:11Speaker 2: the store we want to have on display because we
- 42:13Speaker 2: want people to feel it to know what it's going
- 42:17Speaker 2: to be like when they buy it. So basically anything
- 42:20Speaker 2: that goes in, we're going to have it on display
- 42:21Speaker 2: for you to make sure that you guys know what
- 42:23Speaker 2: you're buying. And we yeah, we do demos, so we
- 42:26Speaker 2: make sure that our associates are trained to demonstrate the
- 42:29Speaker 2: product for you guys and have a better experience once
- 42:32Speaker 2: you have it at home.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Now, with this new location that's going to be at
- 42:35Speaker 1: the Tucson Mall, can you tell us what area, what
- 42:38Speaker 1: part of the twoson Mall that's going to be at.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Yes, So it's going to be at the old Forever
- 42:43Speaker 2: twenty one location. So it's two story building right by
- 42:45Speaker 2: the food court and there's two entrances, so you're going
- 42:48Speaker 2: to see an entrance by the food court into the
- 42:50Speaker 2: parking lot, and then there's an upstairs entrance from the
- 42:53Speaker 2: parking lot as well, so you're going to just basically
- 42:56Speaker 2: go on the side that's on by Macy.
- 42:58Speaker 1: So Dillards, Now, will you be carrying the same line
- 43:00Speaker 1: of products for our listeners that maybe have have never
- 43:03Speaker 1: stepped into Curisal you know I did for the first
- 43:06Speaker 1: time two months ago. What are some of the different
- 43:08Speaker 1: product lines that you have there at this store that
- 43:11Speaker 1: will be there.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Yeah, So we have different brands big of the most
- 43:14Speaker 2: of the known brands, Samsung, the Harman, Jbls, all of those,
- 43:19Speaker 2: but everybody else carries, and of course you were models.
- 43:23Speaker 2: We want to make sure that every year we stay
- 43:25Speaker 2: up to date with the latest models. So you're going
- 43:27Speaker 2: to see a little bit of everything in the computer department, HP, Lenobyo,
- 43:31Speaker 2: everything you see out there, and some of our brands
- 43:34Speaker 2: as well in the TVs and you'll see our brand
- 43:37Speaker 2: nobody else carries, So you'll see some of those items
- 43:39Speaker 2: there which are more of the affordable for most customers
- 43:42Speaker 2: as well, So you'll see a little bit of everything
- 43:44Speaker 2: for everyone's budget.
- 43:45Speaker 1: We're big fans of Razor I know that we saw
- 43:48Speaker 1: Razor keyboards my gaming products. So for the gamer or
- 43:52Speaker 1: those that want to use their technology for business, they're
- 43:56Speaker 1: going to find that with a pretty big display of monitors.
- 43:59Speaker 1: I mean you had everything from the forty nine inch
- 44:02Speaker 1: curved to you know, twenty seven inch even and this
- 44:06Speaker 1: surprised me. And you know, for those that are running
- 44:08Speaker 1: servers that are looking for just a VGA solution, you
- 44:12Speaker 1: had those there as well, and the price was great
- 44:15Speaker 1: on those, so again you have products that kind of
- 44:18Speaker 1: cover the gamut. We ended up getting ourselves the Anchor
- 44:22Speaker 1: power bank, which which was a it's a portable power
- 44:26Speaker 1: unit and like I used it on television this past
- 44:29Speaker 1: week because I had a laptop that battery on it.
- 44:32Speaker 1: It's not working anymore, but it's from the old Windows
- 44:35Speaker 1: XP days and I needed to show it on TV
- 44:38Speaker 1: booting up Linux. So we just plugged it into that
- 44:40Speaker 1: power and took it onto the set with us. Nobody
- 44:43Speaker 1: saw that, but that's how it got its power without
- 44:46Speaker 1: us having to wait five minutes for it to boot up.
- 44:48Speaker 1: So it worked out. It worked out great with that
- 44:50Speaker 1: anchored display there, so again you have pretty much everything
- 44:54Speaker 1: now for somebody that comes in and they say, well,
- 44:56Speaker 1: you know, we want to know, we want to finance
- 44:59Speaker 1: it you. Actually, the Curse has also been really good
- 45:01Speaker 1: in their financing options when it comes to buying products.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yep, exactly. We have different financing options. We again another
- 45:09Speaker 2: way for us stick competitor in the market and making
- 45:11Speaker 2: sure that everybody gets the opportunity to get whatever they
- 45:15Speaker 2: need for their home. There's different financing for everybody. We
- 45:19Speaker 2: help everybody. So you walk in, we have an option
- 45:23Speaker 2: for you and different and financing options as well as
- 45:26Speaker 2: and then house finance, which is a sema for us,
- 45:29Speaker 2: so that would be a secondary.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Very cool. Now there's a big grand opening celebration. It
- 45:34Speaker 1: is scheduled and you're going to be this is when
- 45:35Speaker 1: the doors will open October fifth, or will they be
- 45:38Speaker 1: opened kind of a soft opening before that.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we plan on doing a top opening the third
- 45:42Speaker 2: week of September, so around the fourteen fifteenth of September,
- 45:45Speaker 2: and the grand opening on October fifth.
- 45:47Speaker 1: October fifth, what's some of the stuff that's going to
- 45:49Speaker 1: be happening for that day.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's going to be hosted on the second
- 45:52Speaker 2: level parking lot outside of the store. We're going to
- 45:55Speaker 2: have doorbuster deals, giveaways, entertainment, and live music performances. So
- 45:59Speaker 2: it's going to be a a big event, so everybody
- 46:02Speaker 2: should come through.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Well, one of the things we love about curs Out
- 46:04Speaker 1: Too is you're dedicated to being involved in the community growth.
- 46:09Speaker 1: This means jobs for those that are looking for employment.
- 46:13Speaker 1: This is a great opportunity for those that are maybe
- 46:16Speaker 1: going to school. They're looking for products to help them
- 46:18Speaker 1: with back to school. So we're really excited that this
- 46:21Speaker 1: new location is going to be opening again. That'll be
- 46:23Speaker 1: where the old Forever twenty one is the Tucson Mall.
- 46:26Speaker 1: And I'm sure Allison, you're pretty excited.
- 46:29Speaker 2: About this, absolutely, Am, I can put it into words.
- 46:32Speaker 2: I'm very excited for us to just be in a
- 46:35Speaker 2: more convenient location for a lot more people that haven't
- 46:38Speaker 2: been able to go over there or they weren't aware
- 46:40Speaker 2: that were in the stalltos Tuton right now, very good oracle.
- 46:44Speaker 1: And what more is where the new location will be
- 46:46Speaker 1: sixth and it ten If you want to check out
- 46:49Speaker 1: the store and you can even go online. What is
- 46:51Speaker 1: the website address.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Again, It's going to be iqsl dot com. Very cool, Adam,
- 46:56Speaker 2: I am in the store name dot com.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Well, very good. Congratulations Allison on new show store. I'll
- 47:01Speaker 1: bring you a cupcake. In the meantime, we will definitely
- 47:04Speaker 1: Keevian I and some of the great deals that are there.
- 47:06Speaker 1: I may Taylor. We'll be back with more of tech
- 47:09Speaker 1: Talk Radio. And now back to tech Talk Radio. I
- 47:13Speaker 1: want to make sure we get to this comment from
- 47:14Speaker 1: David here at Green Valley that had a question regarding
- 47:19Speaker 1: the old one point four to four floppies. Yeah, and
- 47:22Speaker 1: I think we may have talked about this at some
- 47:24Speaker 1: point before, but he has these these these computer does
- 47:28Speaker 1: not have an a drive or a beat drive, so
- 47:30Speaker 1: you could read these and what died. You know, if
- 47:32Speaker 1: there's a place you could go, Actually you're better off
- 47:36Speaker 1: I think, David, if you jump on Amazon or maybe
- 47:40Speaker 1: even hit your retailer to see if they have and
- 47:43Speaker 1: they might have it. They've got the one point four
- 47:46Speaker 1: to four floppies that connect via USB, so you can
- 47:49Speaker 1: connect it. You should be able to read that old
- 47:52Speaker 1: drive and be able to copy that data that way.
- 47:55Speaker 1: And they're not that expensive, I want to say, maybe
- 47:58Speaker 1: twenty five thirty bucks, and you should be able to
- 48:01Speaker 1: do that in that way. If you need to get
- 48:03Speaker 1: something off of those, you can now if you have
- 48:05Speaker 1: a question for the show, please drop us a line anytime.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Tech Guys at tech talk radio dot com. We're on Facebook,
- 48:12Speaker 1: Facebook dot com, forward slash tech Talkers. We have a
- 48:15Speaker 1: phone number five two zero seven to seven to seven
- 48:18Speaker 1: ninety five eighty. You can leave a message there and
- 48:20Speaker 1: if you've got a question or comment for the show
- 48:22Speaker 1: that we could share on the air, we will. We
- 48:24Speaker 1: would love to do that as well. Now, Sean has
- 48:27Speaker 1: been following something that he's kind of passionate about, and
- 48:30Speaker 1: that's amateur radio ham Radio, and I wanted to share
- 48:34Speaker 1: a situation they're going through.
- 48:35Speaker 3: So we occasionally talk about ransomware attacks and malbooware attacks
- 48:39Speaker 3: and things like that, and some of us have been
- 48:41Speaker 3: directly affected by those. And one of the companies that
- 48:46Speaker 3: actually not a company, it's just the Amateur Relay Amateur
- 48:50Speaker 3: Radio Relay League, which is the ABRL, which is basically
- 48:52Speaker 3: the home of ham Radio in May had a cyber attack.
- 48:57Speaker 3: They got ransomwared. They so for cybertech disrupted their network
- 49:02Speaker 3: and their systems including various online services hosted, so some
- 49:06Speaker 3: of their stuff was down for a long time, but
- 49:08Speaker 3: they actually paid the ransom.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Wait they paid it, but they couldn't just reset up
- 49:14Speaker 1: everything or it would have been just too much.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Who knows. I mean, if you don't have a good
- 49:18Speaker 3: backup or your the data is that valuable, it's worth
- 49:22Speaker 3: it to pay.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Well, it's kind of a big warning there on the
- 49:25Speaker 1: importance of this day and age too, of making a
- 49:27Speaker 1: backup and having a great backup. But you know, I
- 49:31Speaker 1: know that usually SISA recommends not paying.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Yeah, right, it's just going to encourage them to do more.
- 49:37Speaker 3: And then they have money. They're funded. They're funding terrorists,
- 49:40Speaker 3: basically cyber terrorists. Yeah. So, but that the data that
- 49:46Speaker 3: was taken had member databases, some private information, names, addresses,
- 49:51Speaker 3: call signs, this type of stuff. So wow, And most
- 49:53Speaker 3: more often than now, your call sign is tied to
- 49:55Speaker 3: your home address, like minus for me, you search for me,
- 49:59Speaker 3: my call sign will take you to my home address.
- 50:01Speaker 3: A lot of people will tell you to use a
- 50:03Speaker 3: peel box. But so it's just another company hit by
- 50:07Speaker 3: a ransomware attack. Everybody's vulnerable.
- 50:09Speaker 1: So I just gotta well, you look at the last
- 50:11Speaker 1: week Sea Tack Settle Seattle Airport also had a malware
- 50:17Speaker 1: attack and it cripples the system and it's you know,
- 50:21Speaker 1: we think about it, it's like, Okay, the system's down,
- 50:24Speaker 1: that's how they operate. So when they can't operate, they're
- 50:26Speaker 1: losing money. And that's exactly what what happened. It's like,
- 50:31Speaker 1: you know what, well, we know that CrowdStrike wasn't malware,
- 50:35Speaker 1: wasn't ransomware, but when that event happened, that costs companies
- 50:38Speaker 1: a lot of money. Delta still apparently is reeling from
- 50:42Speaker 1: the amount of money that it costs them.
- 50:44Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, if if any company is down,
- 50:46Speaker 3: that's money they're losing. It's crazy how it's just another
- 50:51Speaker 3: part of the technology technological world we live in where
- 50:54Speaker 3: if technology is down, they can't make money.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Yep. Last week, Larry and Tucson sent us a question
- 50:59Speaker 1: of out finding tech podcasts, and I like, Justin's Justin's resource,
- 51:04Speaker 1: saying okay, yeah, here's a good one for you tech
- 51:06Speaker 1: talk radio dot com. But you may have heard of
- 51:11Speaker 1: the Internet archive, and the Internet archive is a way
- 51:14Speaker 1: to archive the web archive, website archive, literature, television, film,
- 51:22Speaker 1: I mean a whole bunch of stuff. And they just
- 51:24Speaker 1: recently did a project they preserved a classic radio show
- 51:29Speaker 1: on early computer technology from the eighties that had a
- 51:34Speaker 1: bunch of people involved in this that we're guests being interviewed.
- 51:38Speaker 1: We're talking the eighties, so this is at the you know,
- 51:41Speaker 1: the height of you know, the home computers. I remember
- 51:45Speaker 1: going to Egghead Software, you know, back in nineteen eighty four,
- 51:48Speaker 1: and you know, they were little stories, but they were
- 51:50Speaker 1: so busy. This show is called The Famous Computer Cafe,
- 51:56Speaker 1: and they found fifty three episodes that aired from night
- 52:00Speaker 1: teen eighty three to nineteen eighty six. And Sean, do
- 52:03Speaker 1: you know who some of those interviews are?
- 52:07Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I mean I'm just looking it up.
- 52:09Speaker 3: But it's like Bill Gates, Jack tremill yep, Bill Atkinson,
- 52:14Speaker 3: Timothy Leary, Douglas Adley, computer.
- 52:17Speaker 1: Icons, Yeah, talking about what they were doing at the
- 52:21Speaker 1: beginning of this computer revolution, we'll call it that. Uh.
- 52:25Speaker 1: And they found these shows and they're gonna be and
- 52:27Speaker 1: the thing is not available like I would say, Okay,
- 52:31Speaker 1: we're gonna air episode one or episode two. They're available
- 52:33Speaker 1: for you to listen to at the Internet archive.
- 52:37Speaker 3: But listen to this, right, So if the creators of
- 52:41Speaker 3: The Famous Computer Cafe they saved every episode on real
- 52:44Speaker 3: to real tapes, right, But over the years, the tapes
- 52:46Speaker 3: were forgotten and ultimately lost. Earlier this year, an archivist
- 52:51Speaker 3: recovered several of their tapes in a property sale.
- 52:55Speaker 1: A real and reel to reel, not cassette, and recognize.
- 52:58Speaker 3: Their value and I did. They launched a GoFundMe and
- 53:02Speaker 3: they had them digitized and made them available to the
- 53:04Speaker 3: Internet archives.
- 53:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Now now that is internet is it? What is
- 53:09Speaker 1: the Internet Archive? How can listeners get to it?
- 53:12Speaker 2: Uh?
- 53:12Speaker 3: Blog dot archive dot org or just archives inn. Just
- 53:16Speaker 3: just google the Internet Archive. You're gonna find all sorts
- 53:19Speaker 3: of stuff if you If you like old doss games,
- 53:21Speaker 3: you can actually play old doss games right at the
- 53:23Speaker 3: Internet Archive, which is pretty cool. But go to this,
- 53:26Speaker 3: just go to that. We'll put a blink in our
- 53:28Speaker 3: blog for this because they have a blog about this
- 53:31Speaker 3: whole process. There's actually a picture that this person put
- 53:35Speaker 3: up there of the tapes in a box that have
- 53:38Speaker 3: handwritten on here. Ed Thompson Timothy like this is cool
- 53:42Speaker 3: seeing his handwritten notes on the reel, the reels that
- 53:47Speaker 3: they have one that they talked to, the sec they
- 53:50Speaker 3: talked to. It's really cool to see this box of
- 53:55Speaker 3: labeled and to date myself a little bit here. Yeah,
- 54:00Speaker 3: none of these dates are after I was born. These
- 54:04Speaker 3: are all pre nineteen.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Eighty six, before you were born, Right, isn't that crazy?
- 54:10Speaker 3: This is it's wild how these people impact the technology
- 54:14Speaker 3: so much back in the eighties, right before I was
- 54:17Speaker 3: even born.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's pretty amazing stuff. So again, you can find
- 54:20Speaker 1: that archive dot org all kinds of great stuff up there.
- 54:23Speaker 1: If you want to look at a website, what did
- 54:24Speaker 1: that website look like five years ago, six years ago?
- 54:27Speaker 1: You could do that as well by typing the website
- 54:30Speaker 1: tod dressed in and just choose the date and you
- 54:31Speaker 1: can take a look there, even read some of the
- 54:33Speaker 1: articles that maybe aren't on that website anymore. All right,
- 54:36Speaker 1: that's it for this week's show. Hopefully you're gonna be
- 54:39Speaker 1: doing a little camping trip, right, You're gonna camping, hit
- 54:42Speaker 1: the road.
- 54:43Speaker 3: Camp But yeah, I got the camper out today to
- 54:44Speaker 3: get it just checked out, just get it going. We're going. Yeah,
- 54:49Speaker 3: we always go up for Labor Day weekend, go camping.
- 54:52Speaker 3: Hopefully the northern lights play nice and we had some
- 54:55Speaker 3: solio activity last week. Hopefully the sun will be angry
- 54:58Speaker 3: this week and we'll get some stuff.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Well, uh, definitely share some pictures up on the blog again.
