- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks Mike, We're back with cracking heead coach Lane, Lambert Lane.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Your first regulation loss of the season last night in Philadelphia.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Just take us through those sixty minutes in a game
- 0:10Speaker 1: in which it seemed the Kraken just couldn't find their
- 0:12Speaker 1: footing against the Flyers.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we we couldn't quite find our footing. I thought
- 0:18Speaker 2: we started the game well, we scored, you know, gave
- 0:22Speaker 2: up a tough goal on a on a mistake I guess,
- 0:25Speaker 2: so to speak, you know, to let them back in
- 0:28Speaker 2: at one one, but then had a couple of chances
- 0:30Speaker 2: short handed, had a breakaway, you know, I had a
- 0:33Speaker 2: two on one shorthanded, and you know, we didn't bury those,
- 0:36Speaker 2: and when you don't, you know, at times, things can
- 0:41Speaker 2: come back and haunt you a little bit. They ended
- 0:45Speaker 2: up scoring right away after that on the pedal on
- 0:47Speaker 2: the power play, and and you know, the game just
- 0:49Speaker 2: kind of it got away from us a little bit.
- 0:53Speaker 2: You know, I thought we made some maybe some uncharacteristic mistakes.
- 0:57Speaker 2: But at the end of the day too, when I
- 0:58Speaker 2: look over that game and I analyze it, it's never
- 1:02Speaker 2: as bad as you think it is, and it's never
- 1:03Speaker 2: as good as you think it is, so, you know,
- 1:06Speaker 2: the game was fairly even, to be honest with you,
- 1:09Speaker 2: when we analyze all the scoring.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Chances first time this season, I guess the crack and really,
- 1:15Speaker 1: at least from a press box view, have gone through
- 1:18Speaker 1: a bit of adversity and couldn't get to that system
- 1:21Speaker 1: and that style. You know in the manner that you
- 1:23Speaker 1: would like. What's the mindset going into back to back?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Some coaches will tell you that, hey, I like the flush,
- 1:28Speaker 1: it put it behind me and move on. What's going
- 1:30Speaker 1: to be that message going into the nanscape.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Well, we talked about it this morning and we you know,
- 1:35Speaker 2: there's certain areas that we have to be better. For me,
- 1:37Speaker 2: it was about individual battles. We weren't hard enough, we
- 1:41Speaker 2: weren't any plays, and we're playing against a team that,
- 1:45Speaker 2: in my opinion, is bigger than the team we played
- 1:48Speaker 2: last night. And so what's the message? You know, you
- 1:51Speaker 2: better be ready to go and we've got to win
- 1:53Speaker 2: more battles.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Last year, the Kraken winlessen game two's of back to backs,
- 1:58Speaker 1: different team, different coach. This year, what is your philosophy
- 2:02Speaker 1: when it comes to back to backs and how you
- 2:04Speaker 1: approach these games?
- 2:06Speaker 2: No, excuses. You know, you can get into these games
- 2:10Speaker 2: and you get a rhythm going, but this is where
- 2:14Speaker 2: your structure comes into play. Is there fatigue, Sure, there's
- 2:19Speaker 2: fatigue sometimes, but that's where you have to make sure
- 2:22Speaker 2: they're in the right spots all the time and you
- 2:24Speaker 2: need your goaltender to play well. There's not too many
- 2:26Speaker 2: teams that have a good back to back record that
- 2:29Speaker 2: don't get good goaltending from their goaltenders.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Berkeley Catton is NHL debut last night, gets his first
- 2:34Speaker 1: NHL points. What did you make of his game and
- 2:37Speaker 1: how he's been progressing here through his time practicing, watching
- 2:41Speaker 1: being around this team.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I thought he played for the most part, I thought
- 2:44Speaker 2: he played well. He made a couple of plays, made
- 2:46Speaker 2: a nice playoff of face off, and you know, I
- 2:49Speaker 2: think it's like any other player that plays his first
- 2:54Speaker 2: NHL game. You know, the eyes are a little big,
- 2:56Speaker 2: and things are coming at you fast, and you know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: we'll see, we'll see where he goes from here tonight.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Looking forward to seeing him in his second.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Game with the Washington Capitals. They returned twenty of their
- 3:09Speaker 1: twenty three players from last year, one of the best
- 3:12Speaker 1: teams in the NHL for the last few seasons. What
- 3:15Speaker 1: do they bring that can be so difficult for your
- 3:19Speaker 1: team to come back? And of course alex Ovechkin still
- 3:22Speaker 1: kicking at forty years old.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Yeah, well, they have a you know, like I say,
- 3:25Speaker 2: they got a big lineup. They got a solid defense
- 3:28Speaker 2: group that Scott size. Their forwards are big protus of Vetchkin,
- 3:32Speaker 2: Tom Wilson. You know, they play with pace and they
- 3:37Speaker 2: play hard at the net, and we're going to have
- 3:40Speaker 2: to be prepared to get into a war around the
- 3:44Speaker 2: around the paint and our zone and in their zone.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Last one here, Alex Ovechkin closing in on nine hundred goals.
- 3:49Speaker 1: You've had a chance to coach him. I'm sure you've
- 3:51Speaker 1: watched him as a fan as well. What makes him
- 3:54Speaker 1: such a special player and why has he been able
- 3:56Speaker 1: to be so successful, so consistent for so long.
- 4:00Speaker 2: He's just good. You know, he can shoot the pocket
- 4:03Speaker 2: like no other. And I guess really the thing about
- 4:08Speaker 2: it for me is take away everything you know he's
- 4:10Speaker 2: I mean he's two hundred and forty pounds, two hundred
- 4:12Speaker 2: and forty five pounds. You know, he can play the
- 4:14Speaker 2: game anyway you want to play it. Just sort of
- 4:18Speaker 2: a unique player nobody's ever seen the likes of it.
- 4:23Speaker 2: He is the best goal scorer of all time in
- 4:26Speaker 2: my mind, no question about it. And he loves the game.
- 4:29Speaker 2: That's probably the most most unique thing. That's why he's
- 4:32Speaker 2: been doing it so long. He loves it. He loves
- 4:34Speaker 2: when he scores, he loves when his teammates score, he
- 4:37Speaker 2: loves when they win. So he's just good. He's a
- 4:40Speaker 2: good human being.
