- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Today we're talking about resentment.
- 0:33Boy, this is an interesting, complicated subject because it's
- 0:38something that we carry deep within ourselves and we don't
- 0:41really know it's there until it kind of bubbles up in little
- 0:45tiny moments and we figure out that we still are carrying
- 0:49resentment for things. It's kind of like a deep.
- 0:53Wound like a deep If you've ever had a bruise, that's like one of
- 0:56those deep bruises or a bone bruise and it takes a really
- 0:59long time to heal. My experience coaching people
- 1:03has always been that resentment is one of those things because
- 1:06you try to block it, you try to put it away instead of just
- 1:09saying I'm very resentful and owning it now.
- 1:15Even when you own it, sometimes it doesn't make it go away, but
- 1:18it does make it easier to handle and it does make it easier to
- 1:21decode. But it's like that deep bone
- 1:23bruise, and if you've ever had one, and believe me, I've had
- 1:26some doozies, they actually ache and you can move, you can walk,
- 1:31you can do the most of the time, but they are miserable to try to
- 1:34deal with. My finding has always been that
- 1:38with resentment. We're not always clear that
- 1:42that's what it is. We'll say things like we're
- 1:44angry. We'll say things like my
- 1:46feelings are hurt. We'll say softeners to it
- 1:50instead of just saying, you know what?
- 1:51I'm pissed and I I'm, I resent you for this.
- 1:54I I really don't like the way this happened.
- 1:57And I have resentment for you. And because it feels dirty, it's
- 2:01one of those emotions that I often find is a very complex,
- 2:05deep, dirty emotion for people to want to own because nobody
- 2:09wants to resent somebody. It's just, it's not.
- 2:12It's not part of our nature to be so resentful, but we have it
- 2:16and it happens and it just stays there.
- 2:18So it's even more insidious because it's like that beep,
- 2:23beep, beep, beep, beep at that low level.
- 2:25So you keep having the problem with it because it keeps showing
- 2:29up that way. It's like that little tiny bit
- 2:31of that beep, beep, beep, beep beep and it just.
- 2:33Takes you out. So we are talking about this
- 2:37because if you if you have it and you really need to check in
- 2:40and see are you feeling resentful?
- 2:43And I know that it's not something that we typically
- 2:47bring up the negatives to look at.
- 2:48But here's the thing, if we don't look at them well, what's
- 2:53that mean? We're just going to ignore them
- 2:54and they're going to take over and we're never going to have a
- 2:56way to get past them. So as you look through, you
- 3:00start saying, well, are there things in my life that I resent?
- 3:03Ask the question. Ask the specific question.
- 3:05What do I feel resentful about? What are the things that I think
- 3:08I may feel resentful about? If there are situations that are
- 3:12nagging at you between you and another person, and you know
- 3:16that you feel a negative, let's just use a big umbrella emotion
- 3:20right now. You feel negative towards
- 3:22somebody. Then you can ask yourself, is
- 3:24this resentment? Because This is why you have to
- 3:28clean resentment up. It's like drinking the poison
- 3:31and expecting someone else to die.
- 3:34Every day you feel it. They don't feel it.
- 3:37They don't even know what the hell is going on.
- 3:39Half the time they're off and they're oblivious little world
- 3:41and they're just like a la di da.
- 3:45And that's the worst part of these things, because when we
- 3:47carry them around, they become our burden, not their burden.
- 3:52And when they're our burden and we're just holding on to them.
- 3:55Wow. It is tough.
- 3:57And we walk around having the same emotions and the same
- 4:00dysfunction from it every day while they're out drinking their
- 4:04coffee and having their bagels and relaxing or, you know,
- 4:08completely unaware. They might not be having a great
- 4:10life, but they're completely unaware of your emotions and how
- 4:14you feel. So and and and even if they did,
- 4:17it doesn't mean they do a damn thing about it.
- 4:19If there's one thing we've all learned is that, you know,
- 4:22they're probably not going to fix anything.
- 4:25Because they don't have to, and they shouldn't.
- 4:28Because it's about us. We are in charge of ourselves.
- 4:30We are in charge of what we think and what we feel and how
- 4:33we process and what we do. Nobody else.
- 4:36So when we recognize that, we can actually make progress.
- 4:42So I want you to think about it, and I want you to stop drinking
- 4:45the poison because it's not good for you, I mean.
- 4:48Crying out loud. We've had this metaphor before,
- 4:51but I'll do it again just to make sure.
- 4:52Y'all get it. It's the rain barrel.
- 4:53I've got a 50 gallon rain barrel.
- 4:55It's pure fresh spring water. And I say to you, hey, would you
- 4:59like a cup of rain water? And you say, I would love that.
- 5:02And then I say, oh, by the way, there's one drop of arsenic in
- 5:05it. It's fine.
- 5:07It's diluted. FDA says it's totally OK for you
- 5:09to drink. Nothing will happen.
- 5:11You would look at me like I was. Insane.
- 5:14And you'd be like, I don't think so.
- 5:16I'll skip it. I know I would.
- 5:18If you offered it to me, I would certainly not do it.
- 5:20But that's what ends up happening.
- 5:22What ends up happening is we drink the poison every day that
- 5:25we are giving ourselves by having this resentment Sit there
- 5:29and it's just it's so unhealthy and it steals all your goodness
- 5:35moving forward into the things you really want to do.
- 5:37So work on this, look for it, ask the question you know.
- 5:42And dig and get rid of it and make peace with it, because it's
- 5:45not going to serve you All right, my friends, I hope you
- 5:48have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:50Bye.
