- 0:01What if the way you were raised is exactly what you need to
- 0:06break so your children can finally feel free?
- 0:13I want to start with something very honest today, something
- 0:19that took me years to understand and even more years to leave
- 0:25this episode. It's not about perfect
- 0:29parenting. It's about breaking something
- 0:33inside of you so something new can grow in your children.
- 0:39My name is Esther. I'm your host speaking to you
- 0:43from Switzerland. And today I want to take you
- 0:47into a personal part of my life because my two sons, they didn't
- 0:55just grow up, they raised me. They taught me something.
- 1:01I was never taught what it truly means to be humble.
- 1:07I grew up in a very authoritarian family.
- 1:13My father, he was the patriarch, strong, dominant, and very clear
- 1:20about his rules. And my mother, my brother and I,
- 1:26we obeyed. And there were consequences.
- 1:31Anger, tension, fear. And without realizing it, this
- 1:38became my blueprint. Because as a child, you don't
- 1:43question your environment, You absorb it.
- 1:47You become it. So when my elder son entered
- 1:52poverty and he started to push boundaries, to question me, to
- 1:59stand up for himself, I reacted exactly like my father, with
- 2:06anger, with control, with intensity.
- 2:11And at the same time I felt something else, something much
- 2:18deeper. I felt powerless, not just in
- 2:22that moment, but like a little girl again, standing in front of
- 2:28her father, feeling small, unseen on the worthy.
- 2:35And suddenly it was all mixed together.
- 2:38My son, my past, my pain, everything collided.
- 2:45I didn't know how to handle it. I didn't have another model and
- 2:52the first part at the same time my father told me I was a
- 2:58failure. Can you imagine what that does
- 3:03to you? To be triggered by your child
- 3:07and charged by your parent at the same time?
- 3:12Maybe you know this feeling, being hit from two sides until
- 3:18you don't know who you are anymore.
- 3:23I felt like I was failing as a mother, failing as a person.
- 3:29And honestly, if I hadn't had someone in my life back then, a
- 3:36partner who reminded me that I was doing better than I thought,
- 3:42I don't know where I would be today.
- 3:46But I don't want to stay in that pain because something shifted,
- 3:52and that shift changed everything.
- 3:56It started when I began to work on myself, when I met mentors
- 4:03like Tony Robbins and I started to understand something
- 4:08powerful, that my life is not controlled by what happens
- 4:16outside of me, but by what happens inside of me.
- 4:23That was the moment I stopped fighting the world and started
- 4:29taking responsibility for my state.
- 4:34Until then I blamed everything, my father, my past, my
- 4:41circumstances. But I had never asked myself,
- 4:47what can I do with what I feel? So I started to learn something
- 4:55that was incredibly hard for me. Not to react, but to pause, to
- 5:02go inward, to regulate my emotions, to choose my response.
- 5:10And let me tell you, this wasn't easy.
- 5:14It felt unnatural at first because reacting was my pattern.
- 5:23But slowly, step by step, something changed.
- 5:29I became softer, more aware, more present and most
- 5:35importantly, more humble. Not weak, but open.
- 5:42And this changed everything in the relationship with my two
- 5:47sons. I stopped trying to dominate
- 5:51them and started to listen. Really listen.
- 5:58I took them seriously, their thoughts, their feelings, their
- 6:06opinions, something I had never experienced myself as a child
- 6:14because I was often belittled, made small, not truly seen.
- 6:21So I made a decision. The cycle stops with me and step
- 6:28by step our relationship transformed.
- 6:33Today my sons are 20 and 22 and something beautiful is
- 6:40happening. My elder son calls me, not
- 6:44because he has to, but because he wants to.
- 6:49He calls me to talk about his future, to reflect, to think out
- 6:56loud. And do you know what I tell him?
- 7:00Not what to do, but something much more important.
- 7:06I tell him. Listen to yourself, listen to
- 7:10your heart. Because if you ask 10 people,
- 7:15you will get 10 different answers.
- 7:18But only one voice truly matters, yours.
- 7:24And even if you make a wrong decision, there is always
- 7:29another path. There is no right way, there's
- 7:35only your way. And I want him to trust that, to
- 7:41trust himself. Recently he started military
- 7:46service and after just three days he felt this is not my
- 7:52world. And after one week, he left and
- 7:57I was so proud of him because he didn't stay to please others.
- 8:04He didn't stay out of fear. He stood up for himself, for his
- 8:10values, for his truth. That moment meant more to me
- 8:17than any perfect decision he could have made.
- 8:22Because that's what life is about.
- 8:26Not getting it right, but being real.
- 8:30So today, if you are a parent or even if you're not, I want to
- 8:38leave you with this. You don't serve others by
- 8:43controlling them. You serve them by empowering
- 8:49them. Let people think, let people
- 8:53feel. Let people choose and trust that
- 8:58they will find their way, even if it looks messy, even if it
- 9:06looks different than yours. Because the real love doesn't
- 9:12hold tight. It gives space to grow.
- 9:16And if you recognize yourself in my story, if you feel triggered,
- 9:23overwhelmed, unsure, you don't have to do this alone.
- 9:29Ioffer free one-on-one coaching sessions, a safe space where you
- 9:36can look at what's really going on inside of you without
- 9:41judgement, with honesty, with depth, and with heart.
- 9:49If you feel cold, reach out to me, I would truly love to
- 9:55support you because change doesn't start outside, it starts
- 10:02within you and from there, everything else begins to shift.
- 10:09Be kind to yourself, trust yourself, and I'll talk to you
- 10:15next week.
