- 0:28Speaker 1: forget that first visit. It's free, that exam is free,
- 0:31Speaker 1: and give them a call. Six so eight three one
- 0:32Speaker 1: eight sixty seven hundred. That's three one eight sixty seven hundred.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Convenient location for Checkout Veterinary right at twenty seven to
- 0:40Speaker 1: ten Prairie Lakes Drive in sun Prairie, right near the interstate,
- 0:42Speaker 1: just off the highway, right in sun Pray. Again, very
- 0:45Speaker 1: convenient for you and your pet, and it's right for
- 0:48Speaker 1: doctor Greer and the other doctors. A big part of
- 0:51Speaker 1: Checkout Veterinary is making it convenient because doctor, I'm guessing,
- 0:56Speaker 1: the more convenient and the more information pet owners have,
- 0:59Speaker 1: the more frequently they get their pet in to see you,
- 1:01Speaker 1: and good morning by the way as.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Well, good thanks for having me on. So yeah, I
- 1:07Speaker 2: think that it's pretty important that people understand that, and
- 1:10Speaker 2: we're pretty transparent about our pricing. I was just in
- 1:12Speaker 2: the exam room two seconds ago talking to a client
- 1:15Speaker 2: about how to get the most bang for her buck
- 1:17Speaker 2: out of the lab work and the vaccines and the offices.
- 1:20Speaker 2: It's in the surgery and all those things, because we
- 1:22Speaker 2: can help structure those things to make it as cost
- 1:24Speaker 2: effective as possible. And the other thing I want to
- 1:27Speaker 2: say is on the first Sunday of May, which should
- 1:29Speaker 2: be May fourth, May the fourth be with you, we're
- 1:32Speaker 2: having our first from three to five in the afternoon,
- 1:36Speaker 2: our first meet the vet, so MTV meet the mat
- 1:39Speaker 2: at check out that so you can come in. We're
- 1:43Speaker 2: going to have wine and cheese and a beer and
- 1:46Speaker 2: so come in, get to see the place, get to
- 1:47Speaker 2: meet the doctors. I'll be there, one of the other
- 1:49Speaker 2: doctors will be there. And we want people to feel
- 1:51Speaker 2: really comfortable with coming in, understanding the business model, understanding
- 1:56Speaker 2: how the pet care looks to you and your pets,
- 1:59Speaker 2: so that you really feel like we are doing what
- 2:02Speaker 2: we are attempting to do, and I hope it comes through.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I hope it translates in what we're trying to do
- 2:07Speaker 2: is that we're trying to make this comfortable, affordable, accessible,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and you know, really convenient and really low stress for everybody.
- 2:16Speaker 2: So we're trying to hit all those marks. And we're
- 2:19Speaker 2: really pretty client and pet centric. A lot of that
- 2:21Speaker 2: clinics are kind of themselves centric, and we try really
- 2:26Speaker 2: hard to be the quintessential convenient and comfortable and fear
- 2:32Speaker 2: free and really you know, a fun, easy place for
- 2:36Speaker 2: you to be. And we're there seven days a week,
- 2:39Speaker 2: so we're well, we soon will be there seven days
- 2:41Speaker 2: a week. We'll be opening on Thursdays again, as soon
- 2:43Speaker 2: as we get our doctors all up to speed, because
- 2:45Speaker 2: we hired some that started three weeks ago, so they're
- 2:48Speaker 2: not quite there yet, but we're very close to being
- 2:50Speaker 2: there on Thursdays as well. So we're there all the
- 2:52Speaker 2: weekends and so Sunday afternoon, May fourth, from three to five,
- 2:56Speaker 2: you can bring your pet. You cannot bring your pet.
- 2:58Speaker 2: We're not going to schedule any appointment during that time period,
- 3:01Speaker 2: so you wouldn't come in for a visit, but you
- 3:03Speaker 2: would come in just to say Hi, look around, see
- 3:05Speaker 2: the place, Meet the staff and my staff. They're amazing
- 3:09Speaker 2: people that are really committed to the kind of care
- 3:11Speaker 2: that we expect to be the highest level of care
- 3:16Speaker 2: that we can provide you.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It's a great opportunity. Again, mark that on your calendars
- 3:20Speaker 1: and we'll be reminding you as well. That's Monday. Excuse me,
- 3:23Speaker 1: not Monday, it's May the first. Meet the Vet from
- 3:25Speaker 1: three until five at Checkout Veterinarian Doctor. When you talk
- 3:29Speaker 1: about Checkout VET and the clinic literally designed from the
- 3:33Speaker 1: ground up, I know a lot of work went into
- 3:38Speaker 1: how exactly Checkout Veterinary and the clinic in Sun Prairie
- 3:42Speaker 1: was going to not only operate, but how it was
- 3:44Speaker 1: going to be conducive to low stress, less stress for
- 3:48Speaker 1: not only the pet but for pet parents as well.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And you guys really put a lot of work into
- 3:54Speaker 1: the end of the design of this. Let's talk a
- 3:56Speaker 1: little bit about the background of Checkout Veterinary and what
- 4:00Speaker 1: made you decide this is the way to go. And
- 4:02Speaker 1: I also feel like once people experience Checkout VET, they go,
- 4:06Speaker 1: why haven't we been doing this since the dawn of time?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Why then it always worked this way? It's a great
- 4:11Speaker 1: model and a great design, right.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yeah, So James Harriet used to have you bring your
- 4:15Speaker 2: dogs into the practice, or if you had a cow,
- 4:17Speaker 2: he would drive your farm. Well, you know, that's still
- 4:20Speaker 2: the model a lot of people are using in veterinary medicine,
- 4:23Speaker 2: almost everybody is. But this is a completely different way
- 4:25Speaker 2: to look at it. And I was sitting in a
- 4:26Speaker 2: meeting one day. We'd already built the clinic in the
- 4:28Speaker 2: Myra with three garages, but we don't use them quite
- 4:31Speaker 2: the same way. We're not to drive in veterinary clinic
- 4:34Speaker 2: in the Myra. But it seems so obvious to me
- 4:37Speaker 2: sitting there that we're overbuilding veterinary clinics. We're building all
- 4:40Speaker 2: these big buildings that are duplicating all this stuff like
- 4:43Speaker 2: every it Like there's four clinics in Cembraaririe with X
- 4:45Speaker 2: ray machines. We don't need four clinics with X ray machines.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Don't you know there's several CT scanners in the city.
- 4:51Speaker 2: We don't need that many. What we need is access
- 4:54Speaker 2: to the care that you need for the eighty or
- 4:57Speaker 2: ninety percent of the care that your pet needs, which
- 4:59Speaker 2: is just going to be routine vaccinations, blood work exams
- 5:03Speaker 2: and the basic stuff the ear infection, the diarrhea of
- 5:06Speaker 2: the limping, the you know, the very basic stuff that
- 5:09Speaker 2: dogs and cats experience, the urinary truct infections, and we
- 5:12Speaker 2: can manage those very comfortably in a smaller setting with
- 5:16Speaker 2: less financial outlay. We can make it a little more
- 5:20Speaker 2: affordable and just make it a lot more convenient for people.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So it just seems to me that that made sense.
- 5:27Speaker 2: You know, every hospital doesn't need to have the ultimate
- 5:32Speaker 2: scanning equipment because you're using it so rarely. So let's
- 5:36Speaker 2: use our resources on the stuff that our pets need
- 5:38Speaker 2: most frequently and give you access on the weekend. Because
- 5:42Speaker 2: when do things go wrong, When does your dog, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 2: go out in the park and hurt their leg, or
- 5:47Speaker 2: when does your dog eat something that they're not supposed
- 5:49Speaker 2: to and come in with, you know, with something going on,
- 5:53Speaker 2: Those are the things that we need to give client
- 5:54Speaker 2: access to, not the high level which every now and
- 5:58Speaker 2: then in the lifetime pets need it. And no way
- 6:00Speaker 2: am I saying we don't need those. I'm saying we
- 6:02Speaker 2: don't need them duplicated as much.
- 6:03Speaker 1: As we have, And that's what I mentioned. One of
- 6:06Speaker 1: the it's always Saturday and Sunday.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It starts a weekend. It's always a holiday, like what
- 6:13Speaker 2: And that's the way kids are too, Like you know
- 6:15Speaker 2: your kids are always going to do something crazy on
- 6:17Speaker 2: a weekend. Yep.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's and I know, obviously access and being there,
- 6:23Speaker 1: that's one of the great things about Checkout Veterinarian checkout
- 6:26Speaker 1: vet as well as the sister clinic check in Vet.
- 6:29Speaker 1: You can learn more online the website checkout vet dot com.
- 6:32Speaker 1: That's checkout vet dot com. Great day to start that
- 6:35Speaker 1: relationship at checkout vetters give them a call six so
- 6:38Speaker 1: eight three one eight sixty seven hundred. That's three one
- 6:40Speaker 1: eight sixty seven hundred. Don't forget that first visit, that
- 6:43Speaker 1: exam that is going to be free to you and doctor.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I think sometimes I was, I was, you know, texting
- 6:50Speaker 1: you before the show this morning, and I kind of
- 6:52Speaker 1: look around for thoughts and some of the ideas for
- 6:55Speaker 1: what we should talk about and what's kind of on
- 6:57Speaker 1: my mind as well. And I kept seeing people asking
- 7:01Speaker 1: about costs for pet ownership and what does it cost
- 7:05Speaker 1: for cat or a dog on average annually? And I
- 7:07Speaker 1: know one of the things that's really important at checkout
- 7:10Speaker 1: veterinary is transparency is really letting, as you were talking
- 7:15Speaker 1: about your experience with a patient just before the show
- 7:18Speaker 1: this morning, being very open about what things cost, and
- 7:23Speaker 1: of course also working hard to keep those costs down.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But I think pet owners and you know, talk about
- 7:29Speaker 1: really appreciating things. The design of checkout vet itself is great.
- 7:32Speaker 1: The website checkout vet dot com is also fantastic because
- 7:36Speaker 1: people can actually look and see what are the average
- 7:38Speaker 1: costs for procedures and typical treatments at checkout Veterinary, right, And.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I think that's really important. One of the things that
- 7:46Speaker 2: we've really worked hard to do is negotiate good pricing
- 7:50Speaker 2: on lab work. So in the spring and summer, when
- 7:53Speaker 2: many people are doing their heart room tests, if you
- 7:55Speaker 2: can combine the heart room tests with a stool sample,
- 7:58Speaker 2: so checking for a chestno parasie, which we see a
- 8:00Speaker 2: pretty high percentage of pets coming in with, if you
- 8:04Speaker 2: combine the heartworm tests and the fecal sample, so you
- 8:06Speaker 2: need to bring that along with you, then we can
- 8:10Speaker 2: then negotiate. We have negotiated a good price for a
- 8:13Speaker 2: CBC and a chemistry panel for the pet's lab work.
- 8:16Speaker 2: We're drawing blood works anyway for the heartworm test, so
- 8:19Speaker 2: we just draw a couple extra drops of blood. We've
- 8:21Speaker 2: put it in a tube. We send it to the
- 8:23Speaker 2: lab and we can get a CBC, which is a
- 8:24Speaker 2: blood count that's going to tell you red blood cell count,
- 8:27Speaker 2: white blood cell count, and platelet count. Those are the
- 8:28Speaker 2: cells you need. And then it runs a complete chemistry panel,
- 8:31Speaker 2: so as your pet showing signs of diabetes or kidney
- 8:34Speaker 2: problems or liver problems or electrolyte issues or anything that's
- 8:37Speaker 2: abnormal in there. And so for just a little over
- 8:40Speaker 2: one hundred dollars you can get not just the heartwroom
- 8:43Speaker 2: tests and the FeCO which normally run over one hundred each,
- 8:46Speaker 2: but you can also get the CBC in the chemistry.
- 8:48Speaker 2: But you have to bring this stool sample with you.
- 8:50Speaker 2: We can't have it. It has to be submitted to
- 8:52Speaker 2: the lab all in one package to get that pricing.
- 8:55Speaker 2: So it's really pretty simple. You know that morning of
- 8:57Speaker 2: your appointment, you just go out in the yard pick
- 8:59Speaker 2: up what you need to pick up bringing along. We
- 9:01Speaker 2: don't need like a ziplog gallon bagfull. We just need
- 9:04Speaker 2: a teaspoonful and if you bring that along, then we
- 9:06Speaker 2: can do the whole thing, and we can do it
- 9:08Speaker 2: for your dogs, for your cats, we can do it
- 9:09Speaker 2: for everybody that you want to test. And then you
- 9:12Speaker 2: don't have to run back and forth, and you don't
- 9:14Speaker 2: have to worry about these things. You're going to know
- 9:16Speaker 2: that your pet has normal lab work. It's also nice
- 9:20Speaker 2: even if you have a young pet, to know what
- 9:22Speaker 2: their baseline is, so six years from now you can
- 9:25Speaker 2: look back and say, well, over the last six years
- 9:27Speaker 2: we've seen the liver enzymes, they were normal, normal, normal,
- 9:29Speaker 2: and today they're high. We need to be checking into
- 9:31Speaker 2: this or something else that has changed, and then we
- 9:34Speaker 2: don't have to wonder what's normal for that pet, because
- 9:37Speaker 2: not every dog has exactly the same lab work. And
- 9:39Speaker 2: if we see trends or if we see changes, that
- 9:42Speaker 2: allows us the chance to do some early intervention. And
- 9:44Speaker 2: as we've talked about on previous shows, early intervention is
- 9:47Speaker 2: just the same for us as for a pet, is
- 9:49Speaker 2: that the earlier you make a diagnosis and good treatment
- 9:52Speaker 2: set up, the better the chances are of long term
- 9:55Speaker 2: good outcomes. So I think it's really important that people
- 9:58Speaker 2: know that it's not that expense to do that entire package.
- 10:01Speaker 2: It's just a little over one hundred dollars, which is
- 10:03Speaker 2: a really good deal because normally the heartwin test by
- 10:06Speaker 2: itself can be close to half or two thirds of that,
- 10:10Speaker 2: depending on you know, what the pricing is as the
- 10:12Speaker 2: vet clinic where you go, and if you end up
- 10:14Speaker 2: with an emergency situation, if you end up at an
- 10:17Speaker 2: emergency clinic over a weekend, or you know, something happens,
- 10:21Speaker 2: or you end up with the vet school or whatever happens,
- 10:23Speaker 2: You've got that lab work to fall back on and say, well,
- 10:25Speaker 2: this is what it looked like three months ago, what's
- 10:28Speaker 2: going on today. So it's really good information to.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Have and it's great to hear. And for folks that
- 10:35Speaker 1: that maybe are checking out the show for the first time,
- 10:39Speaker 1: welcome to the program. It's great to great to have you,
- 10:41Speaker 1: of course talking this morning with doctor Marty Greer of
- 10:43Speaker 1: Checkout Veterinary, the website checkout vet dot com that checkout
- 10:47Speaker 1: vet dot com and doctor it's great to hear as
- 10:51Speaker 1: mentioning what what I love hearing is, you know there
- 10:54Speaker 1: there is a lot of work that goes on behind
- 10:57Speaker 1: the scenes at Checkout Veterinary to to really make things
- 11:01Speaker 1: conducive for good pet care. And obviously, I think everybody
- 11:05Speaker 1: that shared interest is happy healthy, long living pets and
- 11:08Speaker 1: really finding ways to accomplish that some of this stuff
- 11:12Speaker 1: and we talk about, you know, you talk about different panels,
- 11:14Speaker 1: different testing, getting baselines and looking for other indicators that
- 11:18Speaker 1: may show illness. These type of these type of things,
- 11:22Speaker 1: if caught early most of the time, are very treatable
- 11:25Speaker 1: and far far less expensive to treat early on and
- 11:29Speaker 1: manage early on than if, gosh forbid, they become something
- 11:32Speaker 1: more serious that requires more significant intervention. Knowing the stuff
- 11:36Speaker 1: early and having a low hurdle to clear when it
- 11:39Speaker 1: comes to cost is really a huge benefit for pets
- 11:43Speaker 1: and their overall health, isn't it?
- 11:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah for sure. And the other thing
- 11:48Speaker 2: we try to work really hard with with clients when
- 11:50Speaker 2: we're in the practice is the rebates that we see
- 11:52Speaker 2: on the heartworm and flee and tech medications, and you
- 11:55Speaker 2: oftentimes can't get those if you purchase your medications online
- 11:59Speaker 2: from the on my pharmacies, but they allow the companies
- 12:03Speaker 2: to allow veterinarians to have access to better rebase. Then
- 12:06Speaker 2: you can get a few order from pet met or
- 12:08Speaker 2: Chewi or whoever, so we can provide those and if
- 12:11Speaker 2: you buy a year's worth of supplies, sometimes we get
- 12:14Speaker 2: rebas as high as seventy five dollars for those pet owners,
- 12:17Speaker 2: and they typically run those only in early spring, April,
- 12:20Speaker 2: May and June. So it's important again that you look
- 12:24Speaker 2: at your open your cabinet, check how many heartworm pills
- 12:27Speaker 2: or flee in tick medications you have left from last year,
- 12:29Speaker 2: whether it's a pill or an applicator. Figure out what
- 12:32Speaker 2: you should use in a year, because we do recommend
- 12:34Speaker 2: year round preventions for both the heartworm and the incestual
- 12:38Speaker 2: parasites and the flea and tick product. And that way
- 12:40Speaker 2: you can take a look see what you've got come in,
- 12:43Speaker 2: be equipped to know that and say, okay, well, if
- 12:45Speaker 2: I buy a year's worth, what is it going to
- 12:47Speaker 2: cost me a month? And you can very quickly figure
- 12:49Speaker 2: out that your monthly cost on those products will be
- 12:52Speaker 2: considerably less. So again we work pretty hard to try
- 12:55Speaker 2: and maximize your savings because we want you to be
- 12:58Speaker 2: able to provide all those things. We want you to
- 13:01Speaker 2: have annual blood works, we want you to have a
- 13:04Speaker 2: full year's worth of heartwormtuy and tick preventives. I had
- 13:06Speaker 2: somebody that asked me earlier this week about heartworm disease.
- 13:10Speaker 2: She has absolutely no idea how bad heartworm disease really was,
- 13:14Speaker 2: and that if you end up with it in your pad,
- 13:16Speaker 2: it can be a very significant life threatening disease. But
- 13:19Speaker 2: if it caught early again, we can treat it effectively
- 13:22Speaker 2: and have better outcomes. The same with inteslino parasites, the
- 13:25Speaker 2: same with lime disease. We see some dogs that go
- 13:28Speaker 2: from having a lime disease positive test to going into
- 13:32Speaker 2: kidney failures. Especially labradors and Golden Retrievers are at increased
- 13:35Speaker 2: risk that they developed these disorders that cause their kidneys
- 13:39Speaker 2: to fail, and that happens fast, like really fast. So
- 13:44Speaker 2: we're trying, you know, we're not trying to just line
- 13:46Speaker 2: our pockets for veterinarians to have fancy cars. That's not
- 13:51Speaker 2: my goal. My Google, I don't drive anything fancy. I
- 13:56Speaker 2: put logos on it, and so I have to drive
- 13:57Speaker 2: it forever now because it doesn't looked at good. Well,
- 14:00Speaker 2: you gotta wrap on your car. You better be driving.
- 14:02Speaker 2: That's a little wheels fall off. I'm like, guess, sir,
- 14:04Speaker 2: I sure will. So we want to make sure that
- 14:07Speaker 2: we're giving your pet the best care that we can,
- 14:09Speaker 2: and that means consistent care, long time medications that will
- 14:14Speaker 2: preventivelely in, chick in, the heartworm diseases, and all the
- 14:18Speaker 2: other stuff, so that you really have the best possible
- 14:21Speaker 2: outcome you can. Nobody comes to our practice with an
- 14:23Speaker 2: elderly dog or cat and says, yeah, I was ready
- 14:26Speaker 2: two years ago. Everybody wants more time, and that's what
- 14:28Speaker 2: we're trying to provide you is we're talking about their weight,
- 14:31Speaker 2: we're talking about their heat, We're talking about all the
- 14:34Speaker 2: things that you need to do so that we can
- 14:36Speaker 2: maximize the length of time that your pet can be
- 14:39Speaker 2: with you. And that's really important to us because we
- 14:42Speaker 2: know that's really important to you.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Talking this morning with doctor Marty Greer of Checkout Veterinary,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you can learn more online. I mentioned the website. I
- 14:49Speaker 1: really hope you get a chance to stop on over there,

- 16:24Speaker 1: we were talking, Oh, I was mentioned May May first.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Of course May the first. You've got the meet the
- 16:29Speaker 1: Vet event ting place. That's Thursday from three until five.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Of course we were all, well.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Fourth, it's on May fourth. Why did I say May
- 16:38Speaker 2: on Sunday? I am, I don't know it May fourth
- 16:41Speaker 2: be with you, remember that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a that's a Sunday. I am. I'm gonna
- 16:47Speaker 1: tell you something, doctor, I am. I am excited. And
- 16:50Speaker 1: I don't know why I'm getting my days man. I
- 16:51Speaker 1: think it was because it's a shortened week for me.
- 16:53Speaker 1: But you know, we were talking about about the importance
- 16:58Speaker 1: of getting your pennies. You get folks that maybe don't
- 17:01Speaker 1: have a pet yet that are interested in you know
- 17:06Speaker 1: we want to add a dog to the family and
- 17:08Speaker 1: meeting with a vet before they make that purchase, or
- 17:10Speaker 1: working with a vet, maybe somebody that they know to
- 17:13Speaker 1: find that right pet.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you asked that. Yes,
- 17:18Speaker 2: we are very engaged in that we work with a
- 17:21Speaker 2: lot of breeders, with a lot of rescues, with a
- 17:23Speaker 2: lot of other organizations shelters, and there's some really great
- 17:27Speaker 2: resources that we have that we can share with you
- 17:29Speaker 2: and we can help you with. I'll have clients call
- 17:32Speaker 2: and say, well, I think I want to get a Lienburger,
- 17:35Speaker 2: and Lienburgers are great dogs. But if you're eighty years old,
- 17:38Speaker 2: Eleienburger is going to be one hundred and twenty pounds
- 17:40Speaker 2: as an adult, that might not be your best choice
- 17:43Speaker 2: for your last dog. If you have children in the household,
- 17:46Speaker 2: or you work a lot of hours, or you've got,
- 17:49Speaker 2: you know, the possibility that you're going to be moving
- 17:50Speaker 2: and you may not own your own home in three years.
- 17:53Speaker 2: There's all these things that you need to think about
- 17:55Speaker 2: when you're taking the decision to own a pet. What
- 17:59Speaker 2: should you get from read side, What kind of characteristics
- 18:02Speaker 2: and traits do they have. There's some really good resources
- 18:05Speaker 2: out there I can direct people to. I'm happy to
- 18:07Speaker 2: give you the names of several breeders so that you
- 18:09Speaker 2: can go meet their breed of dogs. So if you
- 18:12Speaker 2: say I think I want to finish lap und or
- 18:14Speaker 2: I think I want an Ordainish British harm dog, I'm
- 18:16Speaker 2: going to say to you, well, let's meet one, because
- 18:19Speaker 2: if you've only seen them online, you haven't really been
- 18:21Speaker 2: in the room with one. You might want to meet
- 18:23Speaker 2: one before you make those decisions. And so we have
- 18:25Speaker 2: lots of good connections for people, and I can give
- 18:27Speaker 2: them some pretty good guidance on coke care, activity level,
- 18:32Speaker 2: indoor activity level, outdoors, How are they with kids? How
- 18:34Speaker 2: are they with strangers? Do you need to take them
- 18:37Speaker 2: to a dog class? Are you going to have to
- 18:38Speaker 2: find them a job? A lot of people talk about
- 18:40Speaker 2: a dog meeting a job. So are you going to
- 18:43Speaker 2: have to sign them up for agility classes or hurting
- 18:45Speaker 2: classes or scent work or something. And there's lots of
- 18:47Speaker 2: really fun stuff you can do, but let's make sure
- 18:49Speaker 2: that their lifestyle aligns with your lifestyle so that the
- 18:54Speaker 2: decision you make is a good one. And we don't
- 18:56Speaker 2: want you to end up with the wrong pet, ending
- 18:58Speaker 2: up with them going back to the breeder, going to
- 19:00Speaker 2: a shelter, ending up in places that really weren't what
- 19:03Speaker 2: you intended for Now, Unfortunately, sometimes unexpected things still happen,
- 19:08Speaker 2: but we can do our best to maximize the chance
- 19:11Speaker 2: of having that pet in your life for the next
- 19:13Speaker 2: fifteen or sixteen years. And that's really important again to
- 19:15Speaker 2: us and to the pet owners, is they don't want
- 19:17Speaker 2: to have a pet for a short period of time.
- 19:19Speaker 2: When they commit, they really want to commit that is
- 19:21Speaker 2: their forever home. I was at the airport on Tuesday
- 19:25Speaker 2: morning and there was a gentleman that was flying a
- 19:27Speaker 2: puppy for a buyer. His wife was a breeder and
- 19:30Speaker 2: she was flying the puppies standing in line in front
- 19:31Speaker 2: of me, and he said, yep, she's going to her
- 19:33Speaker 2: forever home. And that's the goal of every breeder, that's
- 19:36Speaker 2: the goal of every shelter and rescue, is to get
- 19:38Speaker 2: those dogs into a forever home, not into something that's temporary.
- 19:41Speaker 2: So make sure that you contact your veterinary clinic and
- 19:45Speaker 2: see if they have resources to help you with and
- 19:47Speaker 2: if they don't, please call us and help. Let us
- 19:50Speaker 2: help you find the right dog or the right cat,
- 19:52Speaker 2: or maybe it's not a dog or cat at all.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Maybe it's a rat, maybe it's a snake, maybe it's
- 19:57Speaker 2: a faret. I don't know because we haven't had the
- 19:59Speaker 2: co conversation yet, But there are lots of things that
- 20:01Speaker 2: you can find for resources that can help you get
- 20:05Speaker 2: the pet that's really going to meet your needs and
- 20:07Speaker 2: your expectations.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Rats are very much underappreciated pets. As somebody who's known
- 20:11Speaker 1: folks with rats over the years, they are. They are
- 20:14Speaker 1: cool little characters, that is for sure. As we talk
- 20:16Speaker 1: with doctor Marty Greer and talking about getting to know
- 20:19Speaker 1: getting to know the different breeds and different pets that
- 20:21Speaker 1: may be right for your lifestyle, what about getting to
- 20:23Speaker 1: know the right doctor, getting to know about Checkout Veterinary.
