Latest / FPL Pod / S9 Ep12: FPL Pod: Should you sell Bruno for Saka?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello everyone yes we're back again FPL pod here to
- 0:03Speaker 1: reflect on just another quiet week of football and Jules
- 0:06Speaker 1: what did you say I mean maybe bleep it out
- 0:09Speaker 1: but what did you say just as we started recording?
- 0:12Speaker 2: What a shizzle week.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Can we say that? I don't know, we'll find out.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I've always been told, I said she's on TV, on radio,
- 0:19Speaker 2: on podcasts, so it should be fine.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Okay, well just don't keep saying it, in case you
- 0:22Speaker 1: keep having to use the beeper. But anyway, it was
- 0:25Speaker 1: a bit of a frustrating game week. Jules is only
- 0:27Speaker 1: saying that because for once he, I think, got the
- 0:29Speaker 1: worst score out of all of us, which is quite
- 0:31Speaker 1: nice maybe.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Not by much, not by much, not by much.
- 0:34Speaker 3: No, go on Sam, we'll start with you because you
- 0:36Speaker 3: did the best. Yeah, I was actually thinking, God, I've
- 0:39Speaker 3: had an awful week. This has been dreadful. And then
- 0:41Speaker 3: I looked at Arlene and was like, oh, I feel better.
- 0:44Speaker 2: You're welcome. You did.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Thank you, guys. I really appreciate your kindness. Actually, yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 3: just not the best of week, but on reflection, not terrible.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I think it was those players that I was hoping
- 0:57Speaker 3: would be differential makers for me this week. The Bruno Fernandes,
- 1:01Speaker 3: the Dominic Sabozlai's. For them to get one between the
- 1:04Speaker 3: two of them, because obviously Sabozai didn't play and Bruno
- 1:06Speaker 3: just got the one, was a bit disappointing. I thought
- 1:10Speaker 3: I was heavily invested enough in Brighton with Verbruggen and
- 1:13Speaker 3: Pascal Gross. Apparently not. Apparently it's very important that you
- 1:17Speaker 3: now double up on the Brighton defence. They've become peak
- 1:19Speaker 3: Arsenal and we need to have the Kauper or Vuskovic
- 1:22Speaker 3: as well. And so that's something that I'll need to
- 1:24Speaker 3: deal with. Was very upset on Saturday night when Van
- 1:29Speaker 3: Heck was sat there on nine DEFCONs and then was
- 1:31Speaker 3: delighted to wake up Sunday morning and find that they'd
- 1:33Speaker 3: found him another two and he picked up the DEFCON points.
- 1:35Speaker 3: So in the end, it was a small red arrow, 66.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Could have been a lot worse. But I also can't
- 1:43Speaker 3: help but feel a bit frustrated by it.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I have zero sympathy. I've benched a Kuiper.
- 1:48Speaker 1: How on earth do you think that feels?
- 1:50Speaker 3: Kels, benching to Kuipa must have been, I can't even
- 1:54Speaker 3: imagine how you felt.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I played the fixtures, which is so silly, as in
- 1:57Speaker 1: I thought Sunderland away is a harder fixture than Ipswich had.
- 2:00Speaker 1: But as you said there, I think what we're learning
- 2:02Speaker 1: about Brighton is they're so good. We need to have
- 2:05Speaker 1: multiple investment and we pretty much need to play them
- 2:08Speaker 1: every week because as Jules saw the other week, they
- 2:10Speaker 1: can get points against the team that won the league
- 2:12Speaker 1: last season. So yeah, I'm sorry, zero sympathy from me.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Not that we really do sympathy much on this point
- 2:18Speaker 1: for each other, do we?
- 2:19Speaker 2: We don't do sympathy.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Go on then, Jules, get your tiny violin out. Why
- 2:22Speaker 1: was your game week so bad?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, 53 points because I benched Verbruggen and his nine
- 2:28Speaker 2: points and I benched Pascal Gross as well and his
- 2:30Speaker 2: six points.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but you can't bench Pascal Gross.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I thought, you know, I really thought a
- 2:37Speaker 2: way I sent the line a bit like you, Kaelis,
- 2:39Speaker 2: that they would struggle. And to be fair, Pascal Gross
- 2:41Speaker 2: was not good in that game at all. But he
- 2:44Speaker 2: still got something out of it and credit to him,
- 2:47Speaker 2: really good. Then I captained Bruno Fernandes because I just
- 2:52Speaker 2: thought United would react and we do actually a bit
- 2:54Speaker 2: better at home against a Spurs team that, as we know,
- 2:58Speaker 2: find it difficult so far this season. But Bruno probably
- 3:01Speaker 2: had his worst game of the season and this is
- 3:04Speaker 2: a bad season already for him. So that was the
- 3:06Speaker 2: wrong call. So in the end, 53, where I'm the
- 3:10Speaker 2: only one to blame, really. So it's fine.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Yeah, just talking through what I ended up with on
- 3:14Speaker 1: my wildcard, actually, because we did... Discuss my wildcard for
- 3:18Speaker 1: what feels like forever because of that really long international break.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And still, it will surprise absolutely no one that I
- 3:25Speaker 1: had a really ill... I was working the late game.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I did Manchester United versus Spurs. I presented it for
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Premier League on Saturday night. So in the morning,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I was like, oh, perfect. But I'm not going to
- 3:34Speaker 1: need the morning to sort my wildcard out. No, I'll
- 3:36Speaker 1: have sorted it out. Yeah. So Saturday morning came along
- 3:40Speaker 1: and I needed to go to Sainsbury's. Just pick up
- 3:42Speaker 1: a few bits. Sainsbury's at the back of the store
- 3:44Speaker 1: doesn't have signal. And I realized that, of course, to
- 3:47Speaker 1: a level when I.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Haven't you been here before?
- 3:48Speaker 2: Yeah. No, well, I live in a different... I live
- 3:50Speaker 2: in a different.
- 3:51Speaker 1: The last time this happened, I lived somewhere different. And
- 3:53Speaker 1: so I was just... Anyone that saw me, I won't
- 3:55Speaker 1: say which change, but it was a giveaway where I live.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I was just going backwards and forwards near the, like,
- 4:00Speaker 1: the way you pay.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Because.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Tills, that's what it's called.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Because I couldn't go any further back in the store.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm walking up and down. My poor daughter just thinks
- 4:06Speaker 1: she's on, like, a trolley ride going back and down.
- 4:09Speaker 1: While I decided whether... You know, I decided I was
- 4:11Speaker 1: going to sell Kevin Sharder. I then thought, I won't
- 4:13Speaker 1: sell him this week because he's got a good fixture.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Got three free transfers. Like on a wild card, you
- 4:18Speaker 1: need to get a balance of bringing in different players,
- 4:19Speaker 1: but also trying to get the players in form. So
- 4:22Speaker 1: of course, Kevin Sharder's form is not even making 60
- 4:25Speaker 1: minutes and getting a shoulder injury. So really glad I
- 4:27Speaker 1: stuck with him. Also on the Friday night, I'd brought
- 4:29Speaker 1: in Gonzalo because I knew he was going up and
- 4:32Speaker 1: I thought I wanted to see if I wanted him.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But I'm really pleased actually, although he didn't return and
- 4:36Speaker 1: I benched him, I brought in Dominic Calvert-Lewin back and
- 4:41Speaker 1: just at like 10.58. And I'm really glad because I
- 4:43Speaker 1: think Leeds still look brilliant. They look brilliant against Arsenal
- 4:45Speaker 1: and I'm happy to have him beyond last week. And
- 4:48Speaker 1: I think we saw the problems that Fulham have got.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I was between Josh King and Harvey Barnes. I mean,
- 4:54Speaker 1: it would have made no difference last week because neither
- 4:56Speaker 1: of them had good game weeks. Still not totally set
- 4:59Speaker 1: on Josh King, but let's see what happens with Fulham
- 5:02Speaker 1: going forward. They've still got the fixtures. I'm very glad
- 5:04Speaker 1: I wasn't tempted into the Fulham double up because at
- 5:06Speaker 1: one point I was and then I saw a bit
- 5:07Speaker 1: of sense. So yeah, On the whole, though, I don't
- 5:11Speaker 1: mind my team. I mean, Lewis Hall could have done
- 5:13Speaker 1: a little bit more for me.
- 5:14Speaker 2: How many points? Because you haven't said your points.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Oh, I only got 57. But for going forward.
- 5:19Speaker 2: On the wildcard.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but wildcard, that's the thing with a wildcard often,
- 5:23Speaker 1: isn't it?
- 5:23Speaker 3: Week one.
- 5:24Speaker 1: For a few weeks, Jules, not just for one. I
- 5:27Speaker 1: don't think I've ever had a wildcard that week one
- 5:29Speaker 1: has done well. And bear in mind that 57, I
- 5:31Speaker 1: did have 15 points on my bench. So I look
- 5:33Speaker 1: at it and go, had I got my team a
- 5:35Speaker 1: bit better, we could have been talking 70-ish. And then
- 5:38Speaker 1: I'd be pretty happy with that. So my squad is fine.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I'm happy. I've got two leads. At the last minute,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I got rid of Silva from Bournemouth and brought in,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I can never say his name properly, Muharremovic. There we go.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I brought him in and I'm happy to have him.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I just decided that Leeds' fixture is a bit mixed,
- 5:56Speaker 1: but they're so good and the DEFCON's there. So it
- 6:00Speaker 1: was a disappointing week, but I'm not too disappointed with
- 6:03Speaker 1: my team. which feels a bit weird to say.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I liked your team when I looked at it.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, Sharder was the only one. Sharder was the only
- 6:10Speaker 1: one that actually, especially now he's got an injury as well.
- 6:12Speaker 1: In hindsight, that was a bit... I mean, you jinxed him. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:14Speaker 1: sorry everyone.
- 6:15Speaker 2: He didn't want you to own him. He didn't want
- 6:16Speaker 2: you to own him.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I just, I actually felt like I had a
- 6:19Speaker 1: nice balance of chasing points in terms of like Gross, Sharder,
- 6:24Speaker 1: playing it safe by going back to a Dominic Calvert-Lewin,
- 6:26Speaker 1: trying to be sensible, and Maremovic and players like that.
- 6:31Speaker 1: But also with the odd sprinkling of differentials in terms
- 6:33Speaker 1: of Josh King, which might not pay off. But yeah,
- 6:37Speaker 1: that's where I'm at. And let's just hope I get
- 6:40Speaker 1: my bench right this week. But it's been a bit
- 6:42Speaker 1: of a theme of the season, hasn't it? Okay, a
- 6:44Speaker 1: reminder then, Q0HV1Q is your code if you want to
- 6:48Speaker 1: join us in the FPL Pod Mini League. Also, a
- 6:51Speaker 1: reminder there has, as if you need a reminder, there's
- 6:53Speaker 1: been loads of Champions League, Europa League, etc., Matches this week.
- 6:57Speaker 1: We are recording on a Thursday morning, so we haven't
- 6:59Speaker 1: seen everything. But Jules, you know your job on this podcast.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Bring us up to speed.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, really mixed results for Premier League teams
- 7:08Speaker 2: in this midweek of Champions League. Arsenal with a quite
- 7:11Speaker 2: emphatic and controlled 3-0 win against Lille at home. Great
- 7:13Speaker 2: goal by Julian Timber, who started right back. There was
- 7:16Speaker 2: a bit of rotation. No Havertz, no Saka, no Odegaard,
- 7:19Speaker 2: no Calafuri from the start. Some came on. Later, but
- 7:23Speaker 2: Saka scores. Havertz was involved in that goal. We saw
- 7:26Speaker 2: Bruno Guimaraes, I thought, did really well. It was a
- 7:29Speaker 2: defeat for United. Away Atletico Madrid, 2-0 with a red
- 7:32Speaker 2: card for Euro. Like a disastrous evening. Really terrible defending
- 7:36Speaker 2: with a makeshift defence, to be fair. Bruno on the
- 7:38Speaker 2: right and Bombo as a nine. The new three midfielders
- 7:42Speaker 2: from the summer, Baleba, Tillemans and Andres Santos, all starting.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And in the end, it's yet another bad result for Carrick.
- 7:50Speaker 2: And United, Aston Villa, it was a tennis set. They
- 7:53Speaker 2: won 6-0 against Fenerbahce. Two goals for Nico Jackson. Manzambi
- 7:57Speaker 2: looking outstanding. And even Ross Barkley scoring two goals as well. Liverpool,
- 8:02Speaker 2: another tennis set. They won 6-3 away at last with
- 8:05Speaker 2: Bradley Barcola's Hat-trick, his first hat-trick of his career. First
- 8:09Speaker 2: goals for Liverpool as well. Luis Koumas also scored. And
- 8:12Speaker 2: we saw a good Florian Witt in that game, if
- 8:14Speaker 2: you own him. And then finally, really, really, really the
- 8:17Speaker 2: game of the week between Manchester City and PSG. And PSG,
- 8:21Speaker 2: you know, I should remind you and everybody that they're
- 8:23Speaker 2: back-to-back European champions. That's what we do. Paris 1-0. They
- 8:28Speaker 2: smashed City 3-0 in the first half. They ended up
- 8:30Speaker 2: winning 4-2. Two goals for Haaland, who, to be fair,
- 8:33Speaker 2: should have scored easily three or four, but it was
- 8:36Speaker 2: a very good night for Paris.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Great. Congratulations. So pleased for you.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Anytime.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Anytime.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm not loving football right now. Regular listeners know
- 8:46Speaker 1: who I support and it's just... Let's not go there.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah, for you.
- 8:51Speaker 1: If Sam thought it was bad being a Spurs fan, honestly...
- 8:55Speaker 1: I'm quite enjoying watching us play at least I can't
- 8:57Speaker 1: even say yeah I watched them on Saturday and thought
- 8:58Speaker 1: you were good I can't even say the name of
- 9:00Speaker 1: my team right now that's how I feel let's review
- 9:03Speaker 1: let's review game week six in a little bit more
- 9:05Speaker 1: depth we've spoken about how we did but just some
- 9:07Speaker 1: of the big takeaway points because it does feel like
- 9:10Speaker 1: there was quite a few just a word just to
- 9:13Speaker 1: expand really on our Brighton point Jules Sam said then
- 9:17Speaker 1: she thinks she needs three Brighton is that excessive or
- 9:20Speaker 1: is that true?
- 9:23Speaker 2: No, it's probably true. Although the first thing I would
- 9:27Speaker 2: say is the schedule coming up is hectic with two
- 9:31Speaker 2: European games. Not that they play a greater position and
- 9:37Speaker 2: you think Hetzeler will probably rotate and that would be enough.
- 9:40Speaker 2: They will still win those two games. But it's also
- 9:43Speaker 2: the game against Palace, even at home, which is a
- 9:44Speaker 2: special game because of the rivalry between them two. Then
- 9:48Speaker 2: they go away at Liverpool. Then they've got City in
- 9:50Speaker 2: the Cup and City in the Premier League. both away
- 9:53Speaker 2: from home. So I think travelling up, if you want, sure,
- 9:57Speaker 2: might not be the best time to do it right now,
- 9:59Speaker 2: although they're in form and all of them are in form. Verbruggen, Vuskovic,
- 10:04Speaker 2: De Kuyper, Gross we mentioned. You can probably even look
- 10:08Speaker 2: at one or two others if you want to be
- 10:10Speaker 2: a bit more of a differential because those players now
- 10:12Speaker 2: are quite heavily owned. It's just that the schedule coming
- 10:15Speaker 2: up is tough for Brighton. So I think two is absolutely... mandatory. Three,
- 10:21Speaker 2: I would not go there personally right now.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it does feel like for me at the moment,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I'm quite happy with Gross plus De Kooiper. But Sam,
- 10:28Speaker 1: you're obviously, are you hankering for a third? So you've
- 10:32Speaker 1: just got Gross at the moment and Verbruggen.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Grayson for Bruggen, yeah. I just think that, do you
- 10:38Speaker 3: remember a couple of seasons ago when Arsenal, well, every
- 10:41Speaker 3: year really, when Arsenal were this kind of elite defence
- 10:44Speaker 3: and we had long conversations about how, you know, you'd
- 10:46Speaker 3: have one and that was quite good for a while,
- 10:48Speaker 3: but then the trouble is their ownership So then you're like, well,
- 10:52Speaker 3: in order for it to make a difference to my team,
- 10:54Speaker 3: I need to get another one. And then that works
- 10:56Speaker 3: for a while. And then by the time you get
- 10:58Speaker 3: a few game weeks in, suddenly the ownership's gone up everywhere.
- 11:00Speaker 3: And before you know it, you're looking at two of
- 11:03Speaker 3: them and going, well, I'm not getting any green arrows
- 11:05Speaker 3: out of owning you two now. So every time it's a,
- 11:07Speaker 3: it's a clean sheet for us. as it was at
- 11:09Speaker 3: the time, Arsenal, I'd kind of find my team was
- 11:12Speaker 3: being harmed by it. That's exactly where I am with
- 11:14Speaker 3: Brighton now. So I've got Verbruggen, who's ticking over nine
- 11:17Speaker 3: pointers every week. He's fantastic. I like having him. I
- 11:21Speaker 3: see no issue with him. Pascal Gross was just a
- 11:24Speaker 3: massive route to pain. I've closed that off by bringing
- 11:26Speaker 3: him in. So that solved that problem. But I've got
- 11:29Speaker 3: these two Brighton assets. They've returned, both of them returned,
- 11:32Speaker 3: so 15 points out of the pair of them. Yet
- 11:35Speaker 3: I'm still net negative out of that Brighton game because
- 11:38Speaker 3: players like Vuskovic, who... has now risen in price, but
- 11:42Speaker 3: particularly DeKalb are regularly returning. So you add people have
- 11:47Speaker 3: the pair of them or they have one of them
- 11:48Speaker 3: with the goalkeeper. And before you know it, that bright
- 11:51Speaker 3: and clean sheet is actually hurting you rather than net
- 11:53Speaker 3: positively gaining for you. So whilst I sort of agree
- 11:57Speaker 3: with what Joel said about the fixtures and the level
- 12:00Speaker 3: of game time that they're going to have to play
- 12:02Speaker 3: over the coming weeks, I also think that they're still
- 12:05Speaker 3: not that expensive. Uskovic and DeKalb are now 5.1 each.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Having one of them as well and having the three,
- 12:13Speaker 3: it doesn't mean you have to play them all every week.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Some weeks I might decide I want to play Kinski
- 12:16Speaker 3: rather than Verbruggen. But at least I've always got at
- 12:20Speaker 3: least one Brighton asset in my team and in my
- 12:23Speaker 3: defensive team. And I think that's important. So I can
- 12:26Speaker 3: see me tripling up, if not this week, then next.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I guess it comes down to whether you trust, as
- 12:33Speaker 1: Jules said, their fixtures going forward for them to maintain
- 12:36Speaker 1: it and maybe that every week. I think the reason
- 12:39Speaker 1: it probably felt even worse last week is when you
- 12:41Speaker 1: see a defender getting attacking returns. Because when you have
- 12:44Speaker 1: a goalkeeper as one of your Brighton players, although he
- 12:45Speaker 1: got nine points, you're not going to get the bonus
- 12:48Speaker 1: of the attacking return as well. Although we do see
- 12:50Speaker 1: goalkeepers assist every so often.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah, but weirdly, I don't think I would get to
- 12:53Speaker 3: Cowper anyway now. Because of Matona coming back. Yeah, I
- 12:57Speaker 3: would still go for Vuskovic. And especially because we know
- 13:00Speaker 3: that they've got Crystal Palace coming up. They're particularly weak
- 13:03Speaker 3: from set pieces. That's where Vuskovic would be most attacking
- 13:06Speaker 3: when it comes to attacking play. So I still think
- 13:09Speaker 3: I wouldn't get Decauper. I'd go with Vuskovic. But I
- 13:14Speaker 3: am looking longingly at that defence thinking I need more.
- 13:17Speaker 2: What's interesting is they've kept four clean sheets. So it's
- 13:20Speaker 2: the most out of six league games. So this is
- 13:22Speaker 2: the most, they're one ahead of, you know, Arsenal's and,
- 13:25Speaker 2: Everton and teams like that. But in terms of XG conceded,
- 13:28Speaker 2: so really XG conceded is the proper chances that you
- 13:32Speaker 2: concede against you, the 12th in the league. They haven't
- 13:35Speaker 2: defended that well in terms of not giving the opposition
- 13:39Speaker 2: anything in those kind of games. Because again, the truth
- 13:44Speaker 2: is probably a bit in the middle, but somewhere considering
- 13:47Speaker 2: that many chances in your first six games, of the
- 13:51Speaker 2: Premier League is not really good. You know, being 12th,
- 13:53Speaker 2: that's not good. They haven't been solid defensively at all
- 13:56Speaker 2: so far this season. And yet they've got four clean
- 13:58Speaker 2: sheets out of six. So there's probably a bit of
- 14:01Speaker 2: truth in the middle. But doubling up, for example, having
- 14:05Speaker 2: Vuskovic and De Kuyper, and I know De Kuyper's points
- 14:07Speaker 2: are coming from attacking position because he plays higher up
- 14:10Speaker 2: the pitch. I still think it's a little bit tricky
- 14:13Speaker 2: right now.
- 14:13Speaker 1: By the way, guys, if you're listening to this, I'm
- 14:15Speaker 1: a bit worried that De Kuyper is going to be
- 14:18Speaker 1: what sangare was to me i own sangare for all
- 14:20Speaker 1: of the game weeks up until i wildcarded him out
- 14:23Speaker 1: and he got one huge return and i benched that
- 14:25Speaker 1: and i'm really worried that i've done the same with
- 14:27Speaker 1: decoy for now particularly with matoma coming back as well
- 14:30Speaker 1: i'm a bit like oh gosh maybe i've missed the
- 14:32Speaker 1: boat already uh that would just be a very me
- 14:34Speaker 1: thing to do uh let's move on to arsenal actually
- 14:37Speaker 1: because it feels like they link in quite well with
- 14:39Speaker 1: brighton because we're always saying we need three arsenal let's
- 14:41Speaker 1: talk um about which three by the way sighs of
- 14:45Speaker 1: relief from you two about Konza, Sam, although you did
- 14:48Speaker 1: bench him, actually, to be fair.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I benched him. I felt like Leeds might score.
- 14:53Speaker 3: I didn't really want to play the defensive double up.
- 14:56Speaker 3: So I benched him, played Calafuri, obviously, which, I mean,
- 15:01Speaker 3: you have to, don't you? He's just like a bit
- 15:03Speaker 3: of a no-brainer at the minute.
- 15:03Speaker 1: But didn't Jules, Jules got in my head, by the way,
- 15:05Speaker 1: what you said on last week's pod. And Jules, I
- 15:07Speaker 1: relayed that to a few content creators when I was
- 15:09Speaker 1: at the Fantasy Show on Friday saying, There's a theory
- 15:12Speaker 1: from Jules, who knows Arsenal very well, I'm not going
- 15:14Speaker 1: to go around saying that anymore, who knows Arsenal very well,
- 15:16Speaker 1: that maybe Calafiori, they might favour Nkapieh and Calafiori might
- 15:20Speaker 1: not start. The panic look in everyone's eyes, and.
- 15:23Speaker 3: You panic me.
- 15:24Speaker 2: But that was if Eze started on the left, but
- 15:26Speaker 2: Eze didn't start on the left. No, I know, but
- 15:28Speaker 2: you still put that... But you were the only one
- 15:30Speaker 2: with that theory.
- 15:32Speaker 1: And it scared me.
- 15:33Speaker 2: No, true, but if you play Madweke, then Calafiori makes sense.
- 15:37Speaker 2: You know, Incapier would come in, depending on who plays as.
- 15:39Speaker 1: A left winger for Arsenal. I'm not debating that, but
- 15:40Speaker 1: you didn't need to put that in. I had too
- 15:42Speaker 1: many thoughts as it was and you worried me with that.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So I was very pleased that not only I didn't
- 15:46Speaker 1: get rid of Calafiori because he started, but also obviously
- 15:50Speaker 1: returned again as well. Sam, sorry to interrupt. I just
- 15:52Speaker 1: had to say that because I nearly put in our
- 15:54Speaker 1: WhatsApp group about that the weekend.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Could you imagine if you'd have not had Califuria on
- 15:58Speaker 3: your wildcard, the stress that you would have given Jules
- 16:00Speaker 3: for that? Yeah, look, I still think owning both of
- 16:04Speaker 3: them is right. And obviously we were a bit concerned,
- 16:08Speaker 3: weren't we, that Konza wouldn't start because Muscara was.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Back as well.
- 16:11Speaker 3: And it was like, well, okay, there's plenty of options
- 16:13Speaker 3: that they could play in that position. And now I
- 16:15Speaker 3: still think that, having played him at the weekend and
- 16:18Speaker 3: then obviously played him again in the Champions League, it's like, well,
- 16:21Speaker 3: I'll just keep him because at the price point he is,
- 16:24Speaker 3: he's feeling like a bit of a gift and I
- 16:25Speaker 3: don't really want to... When I'm on wildcard in a
- 16:28Speaker 3: few weeks' time, maybe I'll do the Rea goalkeeper thing.
- 16:32Speaker 3: But right now, having Konza and Califuri is fine. I
- 16:34Speaker 3: just wish I'd first benched him so we would have
- 16:36Speaker 3: come on instead of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. But yeah, it was...
- 16:40Speaker 3: I must admit, Kels, though, I was a little bit
- 16:42Speaker 3: scared when I saw that Konza was starting and I'd
- 16:44Speaker 3: benched him. I thought, oh, if they keep a clean
- 16:46Speaker 3: sheet now, it's going to be painful to sit and
- 16:49Speaker 3: watch this on Saturday lunchtime. Because, of course, I've got
- 16:51Speaker 3: to go the whole of the rest of the weekend
- 16:54Speaker 3: seeing my second Arsenal defender sitting there. So, yeah, the
- 16:57Speaker 3: four points was bad enough. It would have been worse
- 16:58Speaker 3: if they'd have kept a clean sheet as well.
- 17:00Speaker 1: It goes back to, and it's the constant dilemma we
- 17:02Speaker 1: have with Arsenal Jules as to who the best three are.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Because Saka was frustrating last weekend. And then the amount
- 17:08Speaker 1: of people that I saw saying off the back of
- 17:10Speaker 1: the Champions League in midweek, well, where was that in
- 17:12Speaker 1: the Premier League? It's like the same in the international
- 17:15Speaker 1: break when Saka goes and is brilliant. It's like, well,
- 17:17Speaker 1: where is that in terms of the Premier League and
- 17:18Speaker 1: our FPL points? I'm still very happy to own Saka.
- 17:22Speaker 1: And I'm confident that eventually he'll realise he needs to
- 17:24Speaker 1: do that in the league as well. If Arsenal are
- 17:26Speaker 1: going to win the Premier League, Bakaya, if you're listening
- 17:27Speaker 1: to this, you need to do this in the league
- 17:29Speaker 1: as well. You need to be good in every competition, please.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Imagine if it's you saying that to him that makes
- 17:34Speaker 3: him suddenly good in the league, Kel.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Clip it and play it to him in the dressing room. No,
- 17:40Speaker 1: he knows I'm the biggest Pio Saka fan, to be fair.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and Arteta, I think, has challenged Saka both publicly
- 17:46Speaker 2: and privately in recent days about scoring more goals and
- 17:50Speaker 2: in his press conferences as well. So I think there's
- 17:52Speaker 2: clearly something that He has to improve for this season.
- 17:56Speaker 2: You know, he's had good numbers before and he can
- 17:59Speaker 2: go back to that. He took his goal really well
- 18:01Speaker 2: against Lille after coming on. He looked really sharp. There's
- 18:03Speaker 2: also an assist for Berrett Chiesi in that game. So
- 18:08Speaker 2: it's looking, I think, probably a bit better for Saka.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Forrest away on Sunday is not an easy game at all.
- 18:16Speaker 2: And their back five and the way they play, under Glasner.
- 18:20Speaker 2: But I think right now, if you look at the
- 18:21Speaker 2: Saka v Odegaard kind of conundrum that we've looked at
- 18:24Speaker 2: a lot already this season, despite the difference in price,
- 18:28Speaker 2: it looks to me that Saka is a bit ahead now.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Odegaard started really well and is also involved, by the way,
- 18:35Speaker 2: on the second and the third goal for Arsenal against
- 18:38Speaker 2: Lille on Tuesday in the Champions League. But it looks
- 18:41Speaker 2: like Saka would probably be my pick if I had
- 18:44Speaker 2: the money now and if I could do it like you, Kels,
- 18:46Speaker 2: with your wild cards, I would do Saka ahead of Odegaard.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Sam? Where do you stand with the Arsenal three? You are?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, the numbers compared to Odegaard are much better in
- 18:56Speaker 2: terms of, you know, shot per 90.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Can you get to him, George?
- 18:58Speaker 2: She's in the box, but I don't think so.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Well, you can. You can sell Bruno Fernandes, but you
- 19:03Speaker 3: have to sell Odegaard as well.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because I've got four, but then that would
- 19:05Speaker 2: take a minus four.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I think if I had Odegaard, I probably would do
- 19:11Speaker 3: the same, but I don't. I only have two Arsenal
- 19:13Speaker 3: right now with Konza and Calafuri. So, For me, the
- 19:17Speaker 3: Bruno to Saka thing. I was only planning to give
- 19:19Speaker 3: Bruno Fernandes one more week against Spurs because I was
- 19:21Speaker 3: expecting something more than we got against Spurs from Bruno.
- 19:24Speaker 3: And then obviously watching Manchester United again in the Champions League,
- 19:27Speaker 3: I was like, it seems no value to me now
- 19:29Speaker 3: in holding Bruno Fernandes when I could have Bakayo Saka.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Because yes, Nottingham Forest have been, on paper it sounds
- 19:36Speaker 3: like a difficult fixture, but the last couple of weeks
- 19:38Speaker 3: Nottingham Forest have, they've disappointed. Like against Coventry they disappointed,
- 19:43Speaker 3: against Crystal Palace they did. Maybe not in terms of
- 19:46Speaker 3: the style of play, but certainly in terms of the
- 19:48Speaker 3: result that came out of it. So I look at
- 19:50Speaker 3: the weekend's fixture against Forest and think, oh, I'd far
- 19:53Speaker 3: rather have Bakayo Saka and I'd have him moving forward.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Because at the moment, would I trust Bruno Fernandes with
- 19:58Speaker 3: an armband? Absolutely not. But would Saka give me an
- 20:01Speaker 3: opportunity to captain somebody outside of Haaland? Yeah, totally. I
- 20:05Speaker 3: would trust Saka with the armband. most week so yeah
- 20:09Speaker 3: it's an easy buy for me.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Another reason I was I was frustrated with my team
- 20:13Speaker 1: but felt like I'd had a tiny bit of a
- 20:15Speaker 1: let off is I had also captained by Kai Osaka
- 20:18Speaker 1: until about 5 to 11 last Saturday I just thought
- 20:22Speaker 1: if I'm trying to get a team here where I'm
- 20:23Speaker 1: playing it safe and I'm also being a bit a
- 20:26Speaker 1: tiny bit risky then it felt like going against Haaland
- 20:30Speaker 1: although they're a different fix difficult fixture just didn't feel
- 20:33Speaker 1: like the weekend to do it because I felt like
- 20:34Speaker 1: City had a bit of a bit of fire in
- 20:36Speaker 1: their belly and they were Yeah, it proved to be correct.
- 20:39Speaker 1: That was fortunately one good decision I did make. But
- 20:42Speaker 1: Bukayo Saka is in my team to be a captain.
- 20:45Speaker 1: There's now a dilemma each week between him and Haaland,
- 20:48Speaker 1: I think.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Okay, then.
- 20:49Speaker 1: So our Arsenal three, Jules, what would they be?
- 20:53Speaker 2: So I would go again, Raya plus one of the
- 20:55Speaker 2: defenders or two defenders, Calafiori, Konza.
- 20:57Speaker 1: It's interesting now, isn't it? Because do we go for
- 20:59Speaker 1: Konza's value or do we just have to have the
- 21:01Speaker 1: upside of Calafiori and he's worth that extra?
- 21:05Speaker 2: I think both work too. If you prefer to have
- 21:09Speaker 2: Raya in goal, then the two of Calafiori-Konca will go
- 21:12Speaker 2: for Calafiori. Absolutely, for the attacking threat that he has,
- 21:16Speaker 2: that goal that he took is really good. Arsenal don't
- 21:18Speaker 2: score on set pieces anymore. So Konca, I think, is
- 21:22Speaker 2: very unlikely to get at some point as many points
- 21:25Speaker 2: attacking-wise than Calafiori. So I'll go for Calafiori, absolutely. And
- 21:30Speaker 2: then if you can't afford Saka, Saka is still... is
- 21:33Speaker 2: right now, for me, the best option going forward. If
- 21:34Speaker 2: I was like Sam, if I only had two Arsenal players,
- 21:36Speaker 2: I would do exactly like her and swap Bruno for Saka.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Sam? I think the... I think Konza, Calafuri, Saka. I
- 21:48Speaker 3: think in a few weeks' time, Konza might become an
- 21:50Speaker 3: issue whenever Saliba eventually comes back. Maybe it's a problem,
- 21:54Speaker 3: but right now, I think those are the best three
- 21:56Speaker 3: and then you can go for Arreia later down the line.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Let's move on to Just a quick word on Joao Pedro.
- 22:02Speaker 1: We warned people against selling him, didn't we? And, I mean,
- 22:05Speaker 1: the warning doesn't come much greater than the way he
- 22:08Speaker 1: and Chelsea performed at the weekend. If you've sold him,
- 22:11Speaker 1: you get him back, don't you, Jules? You have to.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Absolutely. Bring him back now. Go and get him yourself.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Don't wait, yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 2: On your car, on your bike, on your scooter, whatever.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Sometimes, guys, and I do this a lot, in this game,
- 22:21Speaker 1: it is good to just admit your mistakes and go
- 22:23Speaker 1: back on them. Don't be pig-headed and try and think
- 22:25Speaker 1: you can ride it out because, Sam, it feels like
- 22:27Speaker 1: Pedro is one of those players that he's just going
- 22:29Speaker 1: to continually punish you.
- 22:32Speaker 3: He was the third most sold player for game week six.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I mean, we did advise people against it. So, you know,
- 22:38Speaker 1: when you're like.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Leave him on your bench.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And now he's the third most bought
- 22:42Speaker 3: in player ahead of game week seven. So, people are.
- 22:46Speaker 1: By the way, a lot of people did bench him,
- 22:47Speaker 1: which I was like, I couldn't understand that either because
- 22:49Speaker 1: I was like, surely, don't get me wrong, he could
- 22:52Speaker 1: have been on the bench and just come on for
- 22:54Speaker 1: 20 minutes, but I'd back him to score, particularly with
- 22:56Speaker 1: the way that game went as well and the way
- 22:58Speaker 1: Bournemouth have been defending at times. Why just start him
- 23:01Speaker 1: and just have a good bench? I mean, hindsight is
- 23:03Speaker 1: a wonderful thing, of course, but yeah. Well, it's the
- 23:06Speaker 1: same as everything, isn't it? It's like if there's a
- 23:08Speaker 1: chance that they play. And given that Alonso had actually
- 23:11Speaker 1: told us that he was okay on Friday. That was
- 23:14Speaker 1: a good update. A rare good one, wasn't it?
- 23:15Speaker 3: It was a good update. Yeah, it was like, well,
- 23:16Speaker 3: we got told that both he and Palmer were okay.
- 23:19Speaker 3: So it's like, okay, well, you start them and you
- 23:20Speaker 3: don't sell them. I could understand people on wildcard taking
- 23:24Speaker 3: him out and then thinking about it and playing with
- 23:26Speaker 3: their team and catching value. But I absolutely, with Alonso's update,
- 23:29Speaker 3: would have gone back to him, which a lot of
- 23:31Speaker 3: people now are clearly doing. He's gone from the third
- 23:34Speaker 3: most sold to the third most bought. So clearly they're
- 23:36Speaker 3: fixing it, which is good because you do need Jal Pedro.
- 23:40Speaker 3: There was also a lot of bench jam again, Kels,
- 23:42Speaker 3: because obviously Dom Sabozlai wasn't a problem and then suddenly
- 23:46Speaker 3: is a problem after the deadline. And a lot of
- 23:48Speaker 3: people had first benched Jal Pedro and got him off
- 23:50Speaker 3: their bench for Dominic Sabozlai. So that's a bit frustrating
- 23:54Speaker 3: because at one point I was thinking, I was watching
- 23:56Speaker 3: Jal Pedro's points tick up in my team and being like,
- 23:58Speaker 3: actually he's acting a bit more differential now than he
- 24:00Speaker 3: would have been a week before because a week before
- 24:02Speaker 3: he was a lot more heavily owned than he was
- 24:04Speaker 3: going into six. So yes, if you've sold him, for
- 24:08Speaker 3: goodness sake, just go and buy him back. Okay, let's
- 24:10Speaker 3: wrestle through some of the other teams. Leeds obviously lost
- 24:13Speaker 3: that game that we mentioned against Arsenal. But they were
- 24:15Speaker 3: really impressive, weren't they? And like I said, I'm really
- 24:18Speaker 3: happy to be doubled up, I think. It feels like
- 24:22Speaker 3: a Leeds defender is quite important. Like I mentioned, the
- 24:25Speaker 3: one that I've got, Marinovic, and actually he's a DEFCON
- 24:28Speaker 3: magnet as well. So even if they're not getting clean sheets,
- 24:30Speaker 3: it just feels like at five million, he's really good value, Jules.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. Him or, you know, Justin, Borgol, Goodmanson, even
- 24:40Speaker 2: if you want, those kind of guys. Trafford, I'm not
- 24:43Speaker 2: sure if I would go there, but certainly in terms
- 24:45Speaker 2: of defence, yeah, absolutely, you're right. They were probably a
- 24:50Speaker 2: bit unlucky, not too much defensively because Arsenal were always
- 24:53Speaker 2: going to put pressure on them in that second half
- 24:55Speaker 2: when they lost, but they're so well organised, they work
- 24:58Speaker 2: so hard, they have that kind of intensity coming from
- 25:01Speaker 2: the midfield and they don't let you play. So, United
- 25:03Speaker 2: at home on Sunday is massive and you could see
- 25:06Speaker 2: them clearly Getting a clean sheet there, then they go
- 25:09Speaker 2: to Sunderland, then they go to Bournemouth. But those are
- 25:12Speaker 2: the games where you could see them doing really well too.
- 25:14Speaker 2: So I agree with you and they're cheap. So Marjanovic
- 25:17Speaker 2: probably would be my first pick. But again, if you
- 25:21Speaker 2: want to go for Bogle, who's having an outstanding FPL
- 25:23Speaker 2: season so far, then do.
- 25:26Speaker 1: It for sure. Sam, who would your best pick be
- 25:28Speaker 1: of that Leeds defensive line?
- 25:31Speaker 3: I like Muharremovic as well. I actually was really impressed
- 25:33Speaker 3: by James Justin. Even before we scored at the weekend,
- 25:36Speaker 3: I was like, he's everywhere and he's performing so well.
- 25:39Speaker 3: And it reminded me of him when he played for
- 25:41Speaker 3: Leicester all those years ago and we all had him
- 25:43Speaker 3: in FPL because he was that kind of cheap, great option.
- 25:46Speaker 3: I do like him, but it does seem a bit
- 25:51Speaker 3: odd to look outside Muharremovic given the defensive stats that
- 25:54Speaker 3: we get and the consistency of defensive contributions, especially as
- 25:58Speaker 3: we need to remember with Bogle that he has got
- 26:00Speaker 3: more points than he should have because he's still credited
- 26:02Speaker 3: for that goal that then was taken away from him.
- 26:05Speaker 3: So when it comes to his FPL stats, you just
- 26:08Speaker 3: have to be mindful of that every time you look
- 26:09Speaker 3: at Bogle because he obviously looks like he's ahead, but
- 26:12Speaker 3: actually you have to remove the goal points from his
- 26:14Speaker 3: total if you want to compare them nicely, fairly.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Okay, Coventry two wins from two. It felt like we
- 26:20Speaker 1: were targeting them before. It doesn't feel that way now, Sam,
- 26:23Speaker 1: and Thomas looks decent to have.
- 26:26Speaker 3: I had third bench Bobby Thomas again this week and
- 26:30Speaker 3: I was watching this game and I was like, Bobby Thomas,
- 26:32Speaker 3: when he'd got, he beat the defensive contribution threshold 31
- 26:36Speaker 3: minutes into the game and I was like, oh, this
- 26:38Speaker 3: is going to be a problem. He got 22 defensive contributions,
- 26:41Speaker 3: which is the most in any game so far this season.
- 26:44Speaker 3: At one point, I thought he's going to get this
- 26:46Speaker 3: and a clean sheet and it's going to be a
- 26:48Speaker 3: monster double-digit haul and he's going to be on my
- 26:50Speaker 3: third bench slot again. I'm so impressed by him. Every
- 26:53Speaker 3: time I watch him, I just think he's really, really good.
- 26:55Speaker 3: And at four million, he's so cheap. And all right,
- 26:58Speaker 3: you might not want to play him every week, but
- 26:59Speaker 3: that doesn't matter at four million. He can easily be
- 27:02Speaker 3: on your bench. But the week that you play your
- 27:04Speaker 3: bench boost, having someone like Bobby Thomas there could actually
- 27:07Speaker 3: be a really, really good thing.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Okay, on to Newcastle. I mean, it was very, very
- 27:13Speaker 1: disappointing as someone Fortunately, they only had one player, Lewis Hall,
- 27:16Speaker 1: with a grand total of zero. It just feels like, Jules,
- 27:18Speaker 1: at the moment, they've got a new manager. They're a
- 27:20Speaker 1: bit inconsistent. Some weeks, you're going to get really good results,
- 27:23Speaker 1: and some weeks, you're going to have results like that,
- 27:25Speaker 1: and you just need to take the rough with the smooth.
- 27:27Speaker 1: But what does that mean for us in FPL?
- 27:30Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. I mean, I've got Wissar, Paris Bonham-Bred, which
- 27:33Speaker 2: is probably one of the main reasons why I brought
- 27:35Speaker 2: him in. But I thought he would do well, but
- 27:36Speaker 2: the inconsistency that you mentioned, Kelly, is It's just killing
- 27:40Speaker 2: me because they haven't won two games in a row
- 27:42Speaker 2: in the league because of that. They're so up and down.
- 27:44Speaker 2: They can play great, really outstanding transition football at times.
- 27:49Speaker 2: And then other games, it's just the chaos. They're all
- 27:51Speaker 2: over the place, considering four goals against Coventry. And again,
- 27:55Speaker 2: you know, this Coventry team that didn't start the season
- 27:58Speaker 2: that well, our promoted side, even at home, you would
- 28:01Speaker 2: expect so much more from Newcastle, who are maybe a
- 28:03Speaker 2: little bit unlucky. There's decisions against them, like the penalty. They...
- 28:07Speaker 2: They've had chances. Fernandes-Pardo should have scored probably one at least.
- 28:11Speaker 2: But you just can't trust them. That's the thing. And
- 28:14Speaker 2: if you can't trust them, we don't need their players
- 28:17Speaker 2: in our team because it's going to be at least one,
- 28:21Speaker 2: more often than not, it's going to be more heartbreak
- 28:24Speaker 2: than anything owning them. So I think we'll have to
- 28:26Speaker 2: go at some point, unfortunately.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Okay, Spurs. I still don't think we can invest, can we?
- 28:32Speaker 1: But it's just one to watch. Van Hek looks like
- 28:35Speaker 1: maybe a defender.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I'm enjoying it in Van Heck. Yeah. If you count
- 28:39Speaker 3: the defensive contribution points, then he's had eight, eight, six,
- 28:42Speaker 3: and then obviously three this time around. Look, they're playing
- 28:46Speaker 3: really well. It's so infuriating because every week I watch them,
- 28:48Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, this is good. The transitions are good.
- 28:52Speaker 3: The pockets of play are good. Everything is good. And
- 28:54Speaker 3: apart from the finishing and the final product, but they
- 28:58Speaker 3: all commented on it after the game. And I hope
- 29:00Speaker 3: now that there's been a goal and Solanke scored and
- 29:03Speaker 3: maybe it, Eventually, I think we could go there. The
- 29:06Speaker 3: home fixtures are really good and they're out of the
- 29:09Speaker 3: League Cup. So when it comes to the next few weeks,
- 29:12Speaker 3: when everyone else has got loads of matches, Burs have
- 29:14Speaker 3: just got their Premier League games. So that should be
- 29:17Speaker 3: good motivation to invest because it's a decent run of
- 29:19Speaker 3: fixtures where we should score goals. But outside of Van Hek,
- 29:25Speaker 3: I don't know exactly where I'd go. I do think
- 29:28Speaker 3: Kudus might be interesting. There's quite a big bandwagon for
- 29:31Speaker 3: Savio this week, which... The underlying numbers are there for it, definitely,
- 29:36Speaker 3: but we'd have to see some finishing product. And then obviously, Solange.
- 29:40Speaker 3: I would punt on this week. If I was on
- 29:42Speaker 3: a free hit, I would take a punt on Solanke.
- 29:45Speaker 3: But my issue is that I like Dominic Calvert-Lewin's fixtures
- 29:47Speaker 3: and I prefer the way that Leeds are playing right now.
- 29:50Speaker 3: So I'm not going to sell him. And obviously you
- 29:52Speaker 3: can't sell Haaland or Jal Pedro. So there's no space
- 29:54Speaker 3: for Solanke in my team. But he could be interesting
- 29:56Speaker 3: if you do find yourself needing a new forward.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Okay, Bruno Fernandes. I think we've kind of already addressed
- 30:02Speaker 1: this rather large, expensive elephant in the room. He's a
- 30:05Speaker 1: sell now, isn't he? Well, both of you are in agreement,
- 30:08Speaker 1: I think, aren't you?
- 30:10Speaker 2: Yeah, on a discount even.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Well, he did go down for you.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, I think the easiest one
- 30:17Speaker 2: is to do Bruno for Saka, which needs a bit
- 30:20Speaker 2: of work for my team, as I explained before. But
- 30:22Speaker 2: if you don't need any work at all, or if
- 30:24Speaker 2: you have two free transfers, or if you're happy to
- 30:25Speaker 2: take a minus four, then do it now. You've just
- 30:29Speaker 2: lost patience with Bruno and United, lost faith as well.
- 30:33Speaker 2: He played on the right-hand side against Atletico in the
- 30:35Speaker 2: Champions League, like I said before. Not that he played badly.
- 30:38Speaker 2: He had a big chance at the end, like a
- 30:39Speaker 2: lob that he should have done better. But yeah, I
- 30:42Speaker 2: just don't think. And where Alan Rowe that leads against
- 30:45Speaker 2: Leeds on Sunday is going to be a hell of
- 30:47Speaker 2: a fixture. And again, I think United can't be trusted
- 30:51Speaker 2: right now either. Okay.
- 30:53Speaker 1: So you're both going to try and get to Saka,
- 30:55Speaker 1: whether Jules can manage it. is another thing. Someone else
- 30:58Speaker 1: that's causing headaches, I mean, I'm just going to hold
- 31:00Speaker 1: Sharda this week because he can go on my bench
- 31:02Speaker 1: and I can sort it out next week and I'll
- 31:04Speaker 1: have four free transfers. But there'll be a lot of people, Sam,
- 31:07Speaker 1: that will need to move him on. And there's quite
- 31:10Speaker 1: a few options at that price point.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Yeah, there's loads of decent options in midfield. And yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 3: I I just think that he's one of those where
- 31:18Speaker 3: if you can do what you're doing and stick him
- 31:19Speaker 3: on the bench for a week because you have the
- 31:21Speaker 3: bench to cover it, then great. But there will be
- 31:22Speaker 3: a lot of managers that wildcarded last week that were
- 31:25Speaker 3: looking to bench boost this week. And if that's the case,
- 31:27Speaker 3: then you'll have to deal with Sharda and find a
- 31:29Speaker 3: replacement for him. So I think depending upon what your
- 31:32Speaker 3: strategy is over the coming weeks, obviously, if there's a
- 31:35Speaker 3: bench boost coming, then just sell him. But if you
- 31:37Speaker 3: can bench him, then you're probably okay to do that
- 31:40Speaker 3: for this week.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I will be bench boosting. I still haven't fully.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I actually, before he got injured, going into the game week,
- 31:45Speaker 1: I was like, why did I bring in Leif Davis?
- 31:47Speaker 1: I should have gone for a player with a slightly
- 31:49Speaker 1: better fixture because my team, I would have been vaguely,
- 31:52Speaker 1: particularly if I'd gone, at one point I had Barnes
- 31:55Speaker 1: on my, instead of Sharda, and Hremovic. And I was like, oh,
- 32:00Speaker 1: if I hadn't done Leif Davis, I would have been
- 32:01Speaker 1: perfect bench boost territory this week. But then when Sharda
- 32:04Speaker 1: got injured, it actually made me go, okay, I'm glad
- 32:06Speaker 1: I didn't, definitely set that bench boost because it would
- 32:08Speaker 1: have thrown it up a bit but I will be
- 32:10Speaker 1: bench boosting so I will need to sell Sharder in
- 32:12Speaker 1: the coming weeks I just won't do it this week
- 32:14Speaker 1: because then I'll end up with a benching dilemma okay
- 32:17Speaker 1: then Jules actually quickly who would you bring in for
- 32:19Speaker 1: Sharder if you had.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Him I bring my differential that I will tell you later.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Keep listening guys Fulham where do we stand on them
- 32:29Speaker 1: they were a headache for me going into the deadline
- 32:31Speaker 1: but I think we just need to remember the fixtures
- 32:33Speaker 1: can be great but you need some form too Jules.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and I brought Josh King. Like I said, I would.
- 32:39Speaker 2: He was my differential and he didn't do too badly,
- 32:42Speaker 2: to be fair. And again, the XG was decent. He
- 32:45Speaker 2: was better than the opposition. It's just there's clearly something
- 32:49Speaker 2: missing there in what RB Loa is trying to do.
- 32:50Speaker 2: At times, they play some nice football. They're quite good towards.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I think they must probably enjoy playing that kind of football,
- 32:57Speaker 2: but it's just not enough. And Josh King can create
- 32:59Speaker 2: two big chances like he did at the weekend. There's
- 33:02Speaker 2: no return. There's no return for them in the league
- 33:04Speaker 2: and I think Arbeloa is under pressure and they're under
- 33:06Speaker 2: pressure to get results. And it's not written for us
- 33:10Speaker 2: as well in FPL. So whether you have Gonzalo Garcia
- 33:13Speaker 2: or Josh King or those kind of guys, it's not
- 33:16Speaker 2: looking good, I won't lie. But let's give them the
- 33:18Speaker 2: next two games. Yeah, wait. Yeah, they play again, Hull
- 33:22Speaker 2: and Coventry. So the other two promoted teams, we had
- 33:24Speaker 2: this great schedule for them with the three promoted sides
- 33:27Speaker 2: back to back, all of them. So let's give them that.
- 33:30Speaker 2: But it's not looking good.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Sam Liverpool, what are you doing with Dominic Sabozlai?
- 33:37Speaker 3: I was so cross about Dominic Sabozlai because I was like,
- 33:40Speaker 3: I've held you and I spent last week talking about
- 33:43Speaker 3: how I thought he might come good and all of
- 33:45Speaker 3: that stuff. And then actually in the end, he ended
- 33:48Speaker 3: up being a bit of a disappointment. And of course,
- 33:50Speaker 3: Miss Champions League as well in midweek. I have got
- 33:53Speaker 3: two free transfers, so I definitely want to do Bruno Tosaka.
- 33:56Speaker 3: If I could do Sabozlai Tosaka, I probably would do
- 33:59Speaker 3: that instead because obviously it deals with the flags player
- 34:02Speaker 3: rather than the other one. Um, I might just, to
- 34:05Speaker 3: be honest, deal with, um, Bruno because the way that
- 34:09Speaker 3: my team is structured, I obviously want to play Dominic
- 34:11Speaker 3: Calvert-Lewin against Manchester United this week. So putting Sabozla on
- 34:15Speaker 3: the bench for a week isn't terrible. So I will
- 34:17Speaker 3: probably just hold him and stick him on the bench
- 34:19Speaker 3: and see how long he's going to be out for
- 34:22Speaker 3: before making a judgment call. Because actually he's just made
- 34:25Speaker 3: my benching headaches all the easier because I definitely don't
- 34:28Speaker 3: want to bench gross like Jules did this week because
- 34:30Speaker 3: it's constant pain if you do.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Could we be looking at Liverpool's defence at all, Jules?
- 34:34Speaker 1: Because actually it looked, and even until they went down
- 34:37Speaker 1: to 10 men, it looked relatively solid.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Yeah, they did. And I think Xhaka has been outstanding.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Virgil gives you the attacking threat that Xhaka doesn't have
- 34:45Speaker 2: just yet. So if you were to go for one,
- 34:49Speaker 2: it probably would be Virgil. But then we look at
- 34:52Speaker 2: their game in Europe against Lask and they conceded three
- 34:54Speaker 2: goals behind. probably because they took the eye of the
- 34:56Speaker 2: ball and they had won the game already and things
- 34:58Speaker 2: like that. So it might still be a little bit fragile,
- 35:03Speaker 2: I would say. And they go to Brentford on Saturday, obviously,
- 35:07Speaker 2: which again, they will be under pressure, it will be
- 35:10Speaker 2: quite intense. So I'm not sure I would, compared to
- 35:13Speaker 2: all the other options that we have, including the likes
- 35:16Speaker 2: of Marjanovic and the Arsenal boys and Viscovic and people
- 35:20Speaker 2: like that, I would still probably not prioritize the Liverpool
- 35:23Speaker 2: defender ahead of them.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Okay, let's move on because there's loads of things we
- 35:28Speaker 1: could have spoken about today. But I think we also
- 35:29Speaker 1: need to mention rotation. Often this doesn't become a thing
- 35:33Speaker 1: until Christmas time. But I think a lot of managers
- 35:36Speaker 1: are playing chips in the coming week. And there are
- 35:38Speaker 1: so many clubs in Europe. There's the EFL Cup at
- 35:41Speaker 1: the end of this month as well. I do think
- 35:43Speaker 1: it's a consideration when, like even Brighton are a good
- 35:46Speaker 1: example of it, Sam, when we're talking about them in
- 35:48Speaker 1: terms of fixture congestion. Which teams are worrying you the most, Sam?
- 35:54Speaker 3: So some of the teams who've got lots of fixtures,
- 35:57Speaker 3: you can kind of go, well, they're used to it.
- 35:59Speaker 3: They've played like this for years and years, and they're
- 36:01Speaker 3: used to having a two- or three-day turnaround between matches,
- 36:03Speaker 3: so it's okay. The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City,
- 36:07Speaker 3: you would expect them to be able to cope with it.
- 36:10Speaker 3: But there are other teams that are relatively new to
- 36:12Speaker 3: it or have smaller squads, the likes of Bournemouth and
- 36:16Speaker 3: Sunderland and Brighton, who you might go, well, can they realistically...
- 36:21Speaker 3: play on all of in all of these competitions can
- 36:23Speaker 3: they maintain a squad that allows them to play through
- 36:26Speaker 3: it so it goes back to what Jules was saying
- 36:29Speaker 3: right at the beginning of this about Brighton that that
- 36:31Speaker 3: they have got a lot of fixtures they have got
- 36:34Speaker 3: a lot of short turnarounds a couple of game a
- 36:36Speaker 3: couple of days then another match a couple of days
- 36:38Speaker 3: then another match three days and then another match and
- 36:40Speaker 3: when you're playing like that consistently over the course of
- 36:43Speaker 3: a month and then we head into another international break
- 36:46Speaker 3: in the in the early part of November I that's
- 36:49Speaker 3: a bit of a concern.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I think the Leeds and why I
- 36:52Speaker 1: went with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the end, actually, because I had,
- 36:55Speaker 1: I mean, take Garcia out of it, but when you
- 36:58Speaker 1: were trying to persuade me about Costulas as well, Jules,
- 37:00Speaker 1: I was like, well, Brighton have got a lot of
- 37:02Speaker 1: fixtures come up. The teams that are out of the
- 37:05Speaker 1: League Cup and only have Premier League matches because they're
- 37:07Speaker 1: not in Europe are teams like Hull, Ipswich, Coventry, Spurs, Forest, Leeds.
- 37:11Speaker 1: And Leeds are the standout from those, which I think
- 37:13Speaker 1: just enhances their appeal. But then They're like the most
- 37:17Speaker 1: appealing in terms of lease fixtures. Then you go to
- 37:19Speaker 1: the teams kind of in the middle, if you like,
- 37:20Speaker 1: and you've got Chelsea, Brentford, Everton, Newcastle, Fulham, who don't
- 37:24Speaker 1: have Europe, but will just have that additional fixture at
- 37:27Speaker 1: the end of the month. I know it has to
- 37:28Speaker 1: be about form as well, Jules. I'm not telling you
- 37:30Speaker 1: you ignore Arsenal, Man City, etc. But it does have
- 37:33Speaker 1: to come into your thinking, doesn't it? Outside of almost
- 37:35Speaker 1: your key big players, when you're doing your other sprinkling
- 37:38Speaker 1: of players, just think about those fixtures.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that's very true. Although the Prem will always
- 37:44Speaker 2: be the priority anyway. So I think it's more likely
- 37:46Speaker 2: when you think about a Bournemouth, a Sunderland, a Brighton.
- 37:50Speaker 2: And when you look at the fixtures this week, they
- 37:51Speaker 2: play against really small European teams, you know, Torrense, Stromgras, Zalgiris.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Teams that Brighton with a B team would win that,
- 38:01Speaker 2: should win that, especially at home every day. Same probably
- 38:04Speaker 2: for the other two. And we saw with Chelsea when
- 38:07Speaker 2: they played Leeds in the League Cup, for example, that
- 38:10Speaker 2: Champions League changed I think 10 out of 11 or
- 38:12Speaker 2: maybe even 11 out of 11. So some of the
- 38:14Speaker 2: big clubs would have Team A and Team B. Some
- 38:18Speaker 2: of the smaller teams that we mentioned probably don't have
- 38:21Speaker 2: that much depth in their squad and yet the Premier
- 38:24Speaker 2: League would probably still be the priority. So especially against
- 38:28Speaker 2: lower opposition in Europe. So I think there's probably some
- 38:32Speaker 2: week where you're safer and you don't have to worry
- 38:34Speaker 2: too much if you own let's say two Bournemouth players
- 38:37Speaker 2: or two or three Brighton players because I'm not sure.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I don't think Gross, for example, will play on Thursday.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I would not play him or I would maybe play
- 38:45Speaker 2: him just for an hour. But again, Brighton will win
- 38:47Speaker 2: without Pascal Gross or the keeper or Vuskovic on Thursday,
- 38:51Speaker 2: which obviously against Crystal Palace on Sunday. That's the biggest
- 38:54Speaker 2: game of the week. It's not Zalgiris on Thursday night
- 38:57Speaker 2: that is the biggest game of the week. So again,
- 38:59Speaker 2: just look at the fixtures, look at the form of
- 39:01Speaker 2: some of those players and who is injured or not.
- 39:03Speaker 2: But if there's enough in that squad, you could expect
- 39:06Speaker 2: the rotation at times be more in Europe than in
- 39:08Speaker 2: the Premier League.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Okay, let's move on to differential of the week. Jules,
- 39:13Speaker 1: I kind of want you to go first because I'm
- 39:15Speaker 1: most interested in who your differential is. Again, by the way,
- 39:18Speaker 1: last week you got two points each, but you mentioned
- 39:21Speaker 1: your differential earlier, but didn't actually.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Tell us who it was. Yeah, so if you had
- 39:27Speaker 2: Schadler if I had Schadler like you Kels I would
- 39:30Speaker 2: swap him for you Almanzambi Aston Villa who if you
- 39:34Speaker 2: haven't watched him yet or if you didn't watch him
- 39:36Speaker 2: in the Champions League for example on Wednesday night or
- 39:40Speaker 2: even since he came back from injury the injury that
- 39:42Speaker 2: he picked up during the World Cup with Switzerland with
- 39:44Speaker 2: Villa he's been outstanding really outstanding he was wonderful against
- 39:48Speaker 2: Fenerbahce he He's on back-to-back return in the Premier League
- 39:51Speaker 2: against Spurs and Brentford. 13 points, five points. There's goals,
- 39:54Speaker 2: there's assists. He's a wonderful young talent that was excellent
- 39:57Speaker 2: in the Bundesliga with Freiburg last season. Carried that form
- 40:01Speaker 2: at the World Cup with Switzerland and now with Villa.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Perfect complement to Nico Jackson. Perfect replacement in a way
- 40:08Speaker 2: for Rodgers too in that kind of second striker, 10th position.
- 40:12Speaker 2: He can also play wide if you want. If you
- 40:14Speaker 2: look at the game against Brentford, 0.54 xG, 0.7 goals involvement,
- 40:21Speaker 2: he created three chances, had seven shots, which is the
- 40:23Speaker 2: most in the game, had eight touches in the opposition box,
- 40:26Speaker 2: which was the most in the game as well against Brentford.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Outstanding performance and the same against Fenerbahce. It would only
- 40:32Speaker 2: cost you 5.9 million. And his ownership was 1% when
- 40:35Speaker 2: I looked last night and he's 1.2%, I think, already
- 40:38Speaker 2: this morning. So a few other people had the same
- 40:40Speaker 2: ideas as me, but with so low ownership, I think
- 40:44Speaker 2: he's a great differential this week. And Villa are playing
- 40:47Speaker 2: on Sunday against somebody, I will tell you now. On Saturday, sorry,
- 40:52Speaker 2: they're playing against Newcastle away. So Newcastle concede goals. I
- 40:57Speaker 2: think that'd be great for Monzambique.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like his ownership could rise given what
- 41:00Speaker 1: he did in midweek, Sam. Who are you going for?
- 41:03Speaker 3: I annoyingly quite like that one as well. I actually
- 41:06Speaker 3: did think about Nico Jackson this week, but in the
- 41:08Speaker 3: end I put my Spurs goggles back on and went
- 41:10Speaker 3: for Dom Solanke. So he's going to cost you 5.9 million.
- 41:12Speaker 3: It's the first Spurs player I've had this season. He's
- 41:15Speaker 3: in just 1.1% of teams, so a little bit less
- 41:17Speaker 3: than Jules. I think last week we just started to
- 41:22Speaker 3: see a glimpse of the Dom Solanke we saw at
- 41:24Speaker 3: Bournemouth during the 23-24 season.
- 41:25Speaker 1: There was just.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Some moments where I was like, that is the Dom
- 41:30Speaker 3: Solanke that I watched and was really excited when Spurs
- 41:34Speaker 3: signed a few years back. He had a team leading
- 41:36Speaker 3: four attempts on goal in that game. Of those, three
- 41:38Speaker 3: of them were classified as big chances. Eventually, he does
- 41:40Speaker 3: score the equaliser right of the game. He's also incredibly creative.
- 41:43Speaker 3: So when we're looking at the way that the Spurs
- 41:47Speaker 3: team creates at the moment with Savio on one side,
- 41:49Speaker 3: with Kudus on the other, they will create opportunities for him.
- 41:52Speaker 3: It's just, can he be clinical? Can he go back
- 41:54Speaker 3: to that clinicalness that we saw a fair few seasons
- 41:57Speaker 3: ago before the injuries that he's had since he joined Spurs? So, yeah,
- 42:02Speaker 3: over the course of the season, he's leading the Spurs
- 42:03Speaker 3: team for shots, even though, you know, he's had some
- 42:05Speaker 3: rotative minutes. He's also leading for XG. He's second only
- 42:09Speaker 3: to Savio for passes received in the box. So he's
- 42:12Speaker 3: in the right places, doing the right things, creating some
- 42:15Speaker 3: chances as well. We just need him to put on
- 42:20Speaker 3: his goal scoring boots on Monday night against Coventry and
- 42:23Speaker 3: I'll be a very happy girl. OK, captains, transfers and chips.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Is it more straightforward this week with the captaincy, Jules?
- 42:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Haaland at home to Ipswich, he missed
- 42:33Speaker 2: chances against PSG. We said he also scored two goals.
- 42:36Speaker 2: He's on a good run. City, in a way, will
- 42:41Speaker 2: have to put that first half against PSG behind them
- 42:43Speaker 2: and you could expect them to be very good against
- 42:46Speaker 2: an Ipswich team that started quite well this season, but
- 42:49Speaker 2: it's still a hell of a challenge for them to
- 42:51Speaker 2: go to the Etihad. So, yeah, Haaland captain seems logical.
- 42:56Speaker 1: You could triple-caption him some, couldn't you, if you had
- 42:58Speaker 1: the chance?
- 42:59Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. Yep.
- 43:00Speaker 3: It's a good week for it. I think it's a
- 43:01Speaker 3: good week. And it's the most popular trip of the
- 43:03Speaker 3: week by quite a long way. So yeah, I think
- 43:06Speaker 3: if I still had it, I would be really tempted. Obviously,
- 43:08Speaker 3: if you're bench boosting this week, you can't or if
- 43:10Speaker 3: you're wildcarding, you can't. But if you have the triple captain,
- 43:14Speaker 3: it's one of those weeks where we know where we are.
- 43:16Speaker 3: is slightly muddled with the fact that we've got Champions
- 43:20Speaker 3: League again that follows afterwards. So we do see some
- 43:22Speaker 3: potential maybe rotation, but I don't think we will around
- 43:26Speaker 3: Alan Haaland. I think it's far more likely to be
- 43:27Speaker 3: the midfielders at Man City than it is to be him.
- 43:31Speaker 3: So yeah, I think I would use it if I
- 43:33Speaker 3: had it.
- 43:33Speaker 1: So you're both going to captain Haaland. What are your transfers? Sam,
- 43:36Speaker 1: I feel like you're more set than Jules.
- 43:39Speaker 3: I'm definitely going to do Bruno Tosaka. I've been watching
- 43:41Speaker 3: the price changes all week to make sure I didn't
- 43:43Speaker 3: miss one and haven't done yet. So because obviously I
- 43:45Speaker 3: wanted to wait until after the Champions League action had
- 43:48Speaker 3: concluded just in case. So Bruno Tosaka, definitely. I still
- 43:51Speaker 3: have one other free transfer. Whether I do Dom Sbozlai,
- 43:56Speaker 3: I nearly said Solanke again, whether I do Dom Sbozlai
- 43:58Speaker 3: to somebody else. or whether I just keep my second
- 44:02Speaker 3: transfer and leave it. I think I'll probably hold the
- 44:05Speaker 3: second transfer simply because I can play the rest of
- 44:08Speaker 3: my front seven then without a benching headache.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Jules?
- 44:12Speaker 2: I don't know yet. Like I said, I only have
- 44:13Speaker 2: one free transfer. And if I want to do Saka,
- 44:16Speaker 2: which I do, then I would have to move Odegaard out.
- 44:19Speaker 2: I still have the Ouissa issue, my boy, but not
- 44:22Speaker 2: returning enough for me. And I would love Manzambi in
- 44:24Speaker 2: my team. So there's a lot of things. I might
- 44:26Speaker 2: roll the transfer to have two next week to be
- 44:28Speaker 2: able to do a bit of that tinkering.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Okay, well, I've done it in a backwards order this week.
- 44:33Speaker 1: But before we go, I do have to let you
- 44:35Speaker 1: know what happened in the FPL pod mini league. We
- 44:37Speaker 1: didn't do it at the top of the pod. Alex
- 44:39Speaker 1: Dawson is at the summit with 81 points last week.
- 44:42Speaker 1: That came courtesy of a Cole Palmer captain. So he
- 44:44Speaker 1: didn't make any transfers as well. So he's got three
- 44:46Speaker 1: available this week. He actually also had Lewis Hall too.
- 44:49Speaker 1: So even more impressive. He's 12 points ahead of Nils
- 44:52Speaker 1: in second. Nils got 62 points, captaining Bruno. and also
- 44:57Speaker 1: had the frustrations of Sharda on Costulas. Ra Gray is third,
- 45:01Speaker 1: two points behind, but he actually went from 17th to third,
- 45:05Speaker 1: so that wasn't too bad with 89 points. And a reminder,
- 45:08Speaker 1: once again, your code is Q0HV1Q. And a reminder, the
- 45:13Speaker 1: Fantasy Show is back this Friday. I'll be joined by
- 45:15Speaker 1: Az and Praz in the studio. And a reminder for you,
- 45:17Speaker 1: it's an 11am Saturday deadline this weekend, 90 minutes ahead
- 45:21Speaker 1: of Everton's match against Chelsea. Have a great game week, guys,
- 45:23Speaker 1: and we'll be back next week.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Bye.
