- 0:33well if you want to. Now look, I have to make an
- 0:36apology. I was supposed to have Tom
- 0:39Hughes on the program. However, we had a mistake in our
- 0:44time frames with Australia and California for some reason we'd
- 0:51organized doing this, doing the interview late this afternoon.
- 0:55Tom thought that 5:00 5:00 in Australia, Would would be
- 1:01suitable for him. But apparently the time frames
- 1:03are very wrong at time at timings were way off.
- 1:06Apparently, so we've reorganized, we're rescheduling
- 1:09for next week at the moment so I apologize for not having Tom
- 1:13Hughes on the program and it will be, we will be organizing
- 1:17something next week. So let's get into today's
- 1:22today's episode. So on the 23rd of June of this
- 1:27year, I didn't episode, which was titled.
- 1:29Senator Lydia Thorpe should be dismissed.
- 1:34So this episode was also about this, Senator Olivia Thorpe, who
- 1:37says that Australian Parliament has no permission to be here and
- 1:42her plans to infiltrate it. The sir, the the senator said,
- 1:45our entry into the colonial project was due to her
- 1:50aspirations to renewed the nation and be a spokesman a
- 1:56spokesperson to First Nations Now listen, there is more
- 2:02students, more information coming out about Senator Lydia
- 2:06Thorpe, okay? She claims to be a First Nations
- 2:09and a an Australian indigenous person.
- 2:12I think that I don't think she's an Australian did indigenous
- 2:15person. I think she should stop claiming
- 2:18that she is. Because I think she only claims
- 2:22this indigenous part of her being, when it suits her, if it
- 2:26makes her look good in her, in your, in front of the East of
- 2:30the politicians that's when she claims that.
- 2:32She is an indigenous person. It's only to make you look good
- 2:37other than that other than that every other time whenever she's
- 2:42getting about in in her everyday life she is just a foul mouth
- 2:48despicable narcissistic an abusive human being so stop
- 2:54pretending stop claiming that you're an indigenous person.
- 2:59Because you bring nothing. She brings nothing but
- 3:04embarrassments to First Nations people in Australia.
- 3:09That's my opinion. It might sound a little harsh
- 3:11but Hey, listen, just just hold on with me, there's another
- 3:14story this come out and I'll read a read a couple of
- 3:18different, a couple of different Stories.
- 3:22The first one, which came from the said Sydney Morning, Herald
- 3:27is headline band concedes. He should have acknowledged
- 3:31complained about thought so greens leader, Adam bandt has
- 3:36conceded, he should have responded to a written complaint
- 3:39sent to him by an Aboriginal Elder who alleged she was made
- 3:44physically ill. When she was verbally abused by
- 3:48Senator Lydia Thorpe. During a meeting in Parliament
- 3:53House. Last year, being its handling
- 3:56of, the incident has come under scrutiny this week, after the
- 3:59Sydney Morning, Herald and the age revealed, the complaint by
- 4:03Geraldine Atkinson who goes by, Auntie Geraldine Atkinson had
- 4:08gone unanswered for more than a year.
- 4:10And that Thorpe's, former Chief of Staff had attempted to raise
- 4:14concerns with the party leadership, about the Senators,
- 4:18conduct at the time, Spokesman for bent confirmed on Wednesday
- 4:24that he had been contacted Atkinson.
- 4:26Admitting he should have acknowledged the written
- 4:29complaint, she sent to him in June 20 21, but he stopped short
- 4:33of apologizing for the way in which he managed the issue.
- 4:38Adam bandt MP has written to Geraldine Atkinson co-chair of
- 4:42the first people's assembly of Victoria acknowledging that he
- 4:46should have replied to the correspondence from June of last
- 4:49year. The spokesman said.
- 4:52Now, listen, that's just that part about about Adam bands and
- 4:56what they have said. However, from this other article
- 5:00from the Sydney Morning Herald again, this is titled leaked
- 5:05email reveals green staffer scared and in shock after Lydia,
- 5:11Thorpe's truly awful. Outburst.
- 5:15This is written by Lisa visentin, so on September 27 of
- 5:20this year. So it says Marine, Senator Lydia
- 5:22Thorpe's, former Chief of Staff said he was scared and appalled
- 5:26by her Outburst. In a meeting with two
- 5:29indigenous, Community leaders at Parliament House.
- 5:32Last year, describing her behavior that says in describing
- 5:36Lydia thoughts, Behavior among the most unprofessional conduct
- 5:41he has ever witnessed. So the claims by Thorpe's X top
- 5:46adviser reinforce the account of the meeting by Aboriginal Elder
- 5:50Auntie Geraldine. The Atkinson who is aged in her
- 5:5370s who has previously alleged the tirade of abuse level, that
- 5:59her, by the senator distressed her so much that she sought
- 6:03medical attention from the Parliamentary nurse.
- 6:07So, David mageia canals announce, if I apologize, if I'm
- 6:12not pronouncing that properly Anyway said, David Majora,
- 6:15canals, who resigned from Thorpe's office in June
- 6:19accompanied the senator too. Meeting with a Kansan and Marcus
- 6:23Stewart, the co-chairs of the first people's assembly of
- 6:26Victoria and their policy advisor.
- 6:29Nicole Schlessinger to discuss the state's treaty process in
- 6:34the committee room in Parliament House Canberra on June twenty.
- 6:38Second twenty, Twenty-One his account of what happened and his
- 6:43efforts to inform the greens leadership of Thorpe's.
- 6:46Appalling conduct a detailed in an apology letter email.
- 6:51Sent from his Parliament House address to act in sin and
- 6:55Stewart in June one year after the meeting as one of his final
- 7:01acts before leaving the Senator's office in the email, a
- 7:05copy of, which has been obtained by the Sydney Morning, Herald
- 7:08and the age mageia. Canals, said he still did not
- 7:12know why Thorpe had agreed to the meeting only to proceed to
- 7:17behave so badly. So since that meeting This is
- 7:21what he says, since that meeting, I have wanted to reach
- 7:24out to you to apologize, because the conduct that I witnessed at
- 7:29that meeting was by far. One of the most unprofessional
- 7:32displays I have ever seen. Not just during the length of my
- 7:36career, but in my life the email said some agile, canals
- 7:42described his shock at have a meeting, went so wrong and so
- 7:45quickly and said his biggest regret was not ending the
- 7:49meeting sooner. He said the Ended the meeting,
- 7:51my getting a colleague to call the rooms phone.
- 7:55I hope that you can understand that I was scared and in shock
- 7:59because I have never ever been in that situation at work.
- 8:04He wrote eventually, I did discreetly text my colleagues to
- 8:08ask one of them to ring the committee room, we are in, I
- 8:11then pretended, that it was an urgent phone, call that we
- 8:14needed to leave there for cutting the meeting short, the
- 8:18claims by admin Jaya, canals bet Forbes.
- 8:21Have you follow a period of scrutiny on Parliament House,
- 8:25Parliament House has workplace culture, Majora, canals
- 8:29described, how he wanted the Earth to swallow me whole, as he
- 8:34and thought exited the meeting room.
- 8:36Into a public part of the parliament of Parliament House,
- 8:39where a class of ascott excited school children were waiting.
- 8:43He said they gave an improper impromptu speech welcoming the
- 8:47children to the building and had to pretend as if Ethan was fine
- 8:52and normal. He says, I had just witnessed
- 8:55the most unprofessional conduct and now I was staring at about
- 8:5930 children, who wanted to know what?
- 9:01It's like to work at Parliament House.
- 9:03It was truly awful. He said canals does not go into
- 9:08detail in the email about the exact nature of thoughts
- 9:11conduct. He declined to comment when
- 9:13approached by via the newspaper. However, in a written complaint
- 9:18sent to Greens leader. Adam band, following the Eating
- 9:21Atkinson described, thoughts, conduct, as vicious and
- 9:25personal, and abusive, and requested.
- 9:28He takes step to ensure her complaint did not provoke
- 9:32further retaliation in a separate.
- 9:34Letter sent to then Senate. President Scott Ryan and
- 9:38revealed by the age last year Atkinson said, thought,
- 9:42criticized The prominent, bam, let family of which Atkinson is.
- 9:46The member saying they had always tried to undermine her
- 9:50and bring her. Her down and suggested Atkinson
- 9:53was involved in corrupt. Aboriginal organization.
- 9:57She says, when I tried to intervene to respond, send it to
- 10:01Thorpe. Spoke over the top.
- 10:02Me in a highly aggressive tone. Repeatedly.
- 10:06Stating I am an Australian Senator, you are, in my meeting.
- 10:14Our arrogance, is that the arrogance?
- 10:17Now, this is why I say senator thought.
- 10:21Is only an Australian indigenous person, the First Nations
- 10:25person. When it suits her it is very
- 10:29very well known and accepted that in indigenous culture.
- 10:33In Australia, you respect, you show respect to the elders in
- 10:39the community now. 41, she is a senator, she is working for the
- 10:46Australian public. She is not some self-made.
- 10:51Self-employed person. She works for Parliament.
- 10:55She works for the public. She is paid by taxpayer money.
- 11:01And secondly, she claims to be this indigenous person.
- 11:04She claims to be a person of indigenous Heritage and she and
- 11:08yet she cannot even do the most basic of cultural things and
- 11:14that is to respect your elders. That's because she's not really
- 11:20an indigenous. Earnest person.
- 11:22Not when it matters. She is only a First Nations
- 11:26person when it suits her, when it makes her look good.
- 11:31And if it doesn't make you look good, if it doesn't work in her
- 11:33interest well then she's just a fell mouth belligerent.
- 11:37Arrogant individual. Who happens to be a senator.
- 11:41I've said it before. I'll say it again, we need to
- 11:44hold our politicians accountable and as I said, Enough on June
- 11:5123rd, Senator Lydia, Thorpe should be dismissed.
- 11:55She is, she is a disgrace to Parliament.
- 11:59She is a disgrace to the Senate and her trying to speak.
- 12:04As if she, is representing indigenous people in Australia,
- 12:09she needs to take a hard look at herself.
- 12:13A very hard look at herself. She is just, she is just a
- 12:18pretender. That's my opinion.
- 12:22Thank you for listening to the slippery slope.
