Latest / Hurdle with Emily Abbate / 5-MINUTE FRIDAY: How Are You, Really?
Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: What's going on? Everyone? Emily a body here. You are
- 0:24Speaker 1: listening to the first five minute Friday of season fourteen
- 0:28Speaker 1: of Hurdle. What's up? I think today's a good opportunity
- 0:32Speaker 1: for me to do just a little bit of a
- 0:35Speaker 1: pulse check. How are you doing really moment and candidly,
- 0:40Speaker 1: I'm doing pretty well. I'm feeling really fulfilled at the
- 0:46Speaker 1: moment by my relationships. I went on a run earlier
- 0:49Speaker 1: today with an old friend who just got an exciting
- 0:52Speaker 1: new job, and we were catching up and she said,
- 0:55Speaker 1: give me the highlights, and the highlights are. I feel
- 0:59Speaker 1: really lucky in my friendships right now. I feel really
- 1:03Speaker 1: fulfilled and really excited about the quality of people that
- 1:07Speaker 1: I have in my life, and for that I am
- 1:09Speaker 1: really really grateful. I have a fair amount of travel
- 1:13Speaker 1: on deck between San Francisco and Budapest and Shawmanie for
- 1:18Speaker 1: UTMB and Berlin and Chicago, and there is a lot
- 1:22Speaker 1: of fun stuff on deck. On that note, if you
- 1:25Speaker 1: are in San Francisco and listening to this in real time,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I'm going to be hosting a shakeout run and a
- 1:31Speaker 1: panel starting at five pm at the Fort Mason Festival
- 1:35Speaker 1: Pavilion Number two Marina Boulevard. So if you're around, I
- 1:39Speaker 1: want to join for a three mile community run followed
- 1:41Speaker 1: by a forty five minute panel. I am here to
- 1:44Speaker 1: tell you come hang out. You don't need to be
- 1:46Speaker 1: running the marathon this weekend. Just need to be down
- 1:49Speaker 1: for some good vibes. Okay, But back to the how
- 1:53Speaker 1: are you doing? Really? The purpose of this check in
- 1:55Speaker 1: really for me is to talk about how to navigate
- 1:58Speaker 1: when things feel like I actually feel very on top
- 2:02Speaker 1: of it right now. I feel in control. I feel
- 2:04Speaker 1: like I'm ahead of the game. I feel as though,
- 2:06Speaker 1: even with all of this travel, my ducks are in
- 2:09Speaker 1: a row and I'm moving forward accordingly. But that doesn't
- 2:12Speaker 1: mean that I'm not anticipating how I may feel in
- 2:16Speaker 1: the week's, month, couple of months to come. There's just
- 2:19Speaker 1: a lot going to be going down, and so I
- 2:23Speaker 1: know that the best thing I can do for myself
- 2:25Speaker 1: is stay on top of the routines that keep me
- 2:27Speaker 1: sane to move forward. Regardless of where I am in
- 2:32Speaker 1: the world, I am constantly asking myself, what do you need?
- 2:37Speaker 1: How can you take care of you in this moment?
- 2:39Speaker 1: And it's not a selfish question, it's a responsible question.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It is a responsible thing to take care of yourself.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You deserve that energy. Hard stop period, end, exclamation point.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And so for me, that means making a conscious effort,
- 2:57Speaker 1: even on the days where it may feel like a
- 2:59Speaker 1: little bit of an inconvene, to journal first thing in
- 3:01Speaker 1: the morning, making a conscious effort to do breath work
- 3:04Speaker 1: in the morning, making a conscious effort to stick with
- 3:07Speaker 1: my workout schedule and stay on track because I know
- 3:11Speaker 1: that no matter where I am in the world, I'm
- 3:13Speaker 1: going to be better for it. And then, almost most importantly,
- 3:17Speaker 1: candidly making time to check in with my people, even
- 3:21Speaker 1: if that means a week ahead of time, setting aside
- 3:25Speaker 1: a call with one of my closest friends. My people,
- 3:27Speaker 1: my friends, my family. They keep me grounded and that
- 3:31Speaker 1: interaction is so so important for me. So you want
- 3:35Speaker 1: to know how I'm doing. Really, I'm good because I
- 3:38Speaker 1: have these systems in place, and I stick to them
- 3:41Speaker 1: even when life feels a little like it's going off
- 3:44Speaker 1: the rails. My question for you this week, how are
- 3:48Speaker 1: you being good to you? How are you giving back
- 3:52Speaker 1: to yourself? How are you planning to take care of
- 3:55Speaker 1: you going forward in the next week, the next month. Heck,
- 4:01Speaker 1: for the next six months. Start thinking about that now.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And now a listener question, Hi, Emily, I just wanted
- 4:09Speaker 1: to know what are your goals for the next five
- 4:12Speaker 1: and ten years and even beyond that? Good one. You know,
- 4:15Speaker 1: if I sat here and told you all the goals
- 4:17Speaker 1: that I have for the next five or ten years
- 4:19Speaker 1: would probably be here for a while. I would say
- 4:23Speaker 1: my biggest goal for the next five years is to
- 4:26Speaker 1: buy property. And as awesome as it would be to
- 4:31Speaker 1: invest or to buy an investment property, I want to
- 4:34Speaker 1: buy a home at some point in the next five years.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I mean the big goal is to buy it after
- 4:40Speaker 1: my lease cycle is over, which would be in about
- 4:44Speaker 1: just shy of two years. I would really love to
- 4:47Speaker 1: do that then. So that's probably my biggest goal, something
- 4:50Speaker 1: that I want to speak into the world, and I
- 4:51Speaker 1: know it's going to take a lot of financial planning
- 4:54Speaker 1: and being really responsible and working really hard. Aside from that,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I say my other big goal for the next five
- 5:02Speaker 1: years is to figure out a way to regularly be
- 5:06Speaker 1: involved in charitable work or add a charitable aspect to
- 5:10Speaker 1: my business. It's something that's really important to me giving
- 5:13Speaker 1: back and although I have donated to different causes, since
- 5:18Speaker 1: starting Hurdle, I want to figure out the right way
- 5:22Speaker 1: to synergistically make this a part of what I do
- 5:26Speaker 1: and build it into more of a regular routine. So
- 5:30Speaker 1: I know that's going to take some dedicated thought on
- 5:33Speaker 1: my time, and I want to make sure that I
- 5:36Speaker 1: invest the time because it is something that is really
- 5:40Speaker 1: important to me. Now, I'd be remiss if I didn't
- 5:42Speaker 1: say that there are some things that I hope for
- 5:44Speaker 1: in the next five to ten years, like landing on
- 5:46Speaker 1: a life partner and successfully crossing off the six marathon
- 5:51Speaker 1: majors from my bucket list, and also finally extending my
- 5:54Speaker 1: investment portfolio. I mean, there are a lot of things
- 5:56Speaker 1: that I would like to do, but those aren't necessarily
- 6:00Speaker 1: I would say the biggest goals on my radar. I
- 6:03Speaker 1: have some business goals, but for now, I'm going to
- 6:05Speaker 1: keep those ones tight to the vest. Isn't that a
- 6:08Speaker 1: fun little phrase? Make sure you're following along with Hurdle
- 6:11Speaker 1: over on social It's at Hurdle Podcast. I am over
- 6:13Speaker 1: at Emily a body. I would love it if you
- 6:16Speaker 1: can send over some more questions. I want to answer
- 6:18Speaker 1: them on the next installment of Five Minute Friday. The
- 6:21Speaker 1: link to leave me a voice message is in the
- 6:24Speaker 1: show notes. If you love Five Minute Friday, you are
