- 0:00Speaker 1: Be filled with the spirit. Second texture. I want to
- 0:05Speaker 1: conclude these addresses on the Holy Spirit and His work
- 0:08Speaker 1: in us by a short summary of what that work is,
- 0:12Speaker 1: showing the great and wonderful blessedness that the Holy Spirit
- 0:15Speaker 1: brings to them that yield to him. As my text,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I mean to take again the words that we have
- 0:22Speaker 1: had before Ephesians chapter five, verse eighteen, be filled with
- 0:27Speaker 1: the Spirit. I think we have said that we are
- 0:30Speaker 1: in very great danger when we read that text of
- 0:33Speaker 1: thinking of the Holy Spirit coming in great power, under
- 0:37Speaker 1: a conscious sense of his presence, with a great stir
- 0:40Speaker 1: of the emotions, with a great revelation of the glory
- 0:43Speaker 1: of God, with a great quickening of our power for work.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And yet very often this is not the case. I
- 0:51Speaker 1: use the illustration of a river being filled up at
- 0:54Speaker 1: once by heavy storms of rain, or a river being
- 0:57Speaker 1: filled very gradually. I might speak again of that same river.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Sometimes it is filled by the rain coming down in torrents,
- 1:06Speaker 1: causing great noise and turmoil. And that same river might
- 1:10Speaker 1: be filled with the water running down from the melted
- 1:13Speaker 1: snow on the mountains, so that there will be a
- 1:16Speaker 1: calm like steady rising silently without any noise or disturbance,
- 1:21Speaker 1: And so the Holy Spirit may come with noise as
- 1:25Speaker 1: of the sound of a rushing wind, and with a
- 1:27Speaker 1: wonderful thrilling throughout the whole being. Yet many times he
- 1:31Speaker 1: may come on the ordinary level of the daily life,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and a man can live filled with the Holy Spirit
- 1:37Speaker 1: just while he is walking along quietly in his daily duties.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Then the great thing to know and understand is what
- 1:46Speaker 1: is it that the Holy Spirit will work in such
- 1:48Speaker 1: a man. I want to give you three very simple answers.
- 1:53Speaker 1: The Holy Spirit brings the presence of Christ. He gives
- 1:56Speaker 1: the likeness of Christ. And the Holy Spirit it works
- 2:00Speaker 1: the power of Christ. First, the Holy Spirit is meant
- 2:05Speaker 1: to give the presence of Christ. You know, dear friends,
- 2:09Speaker 1: that during the three years of Christ's work on earth,
- 2:12Speaker 1: to the disciples, his presence was everything. Christ's presence met
- 2:17Speaker 1: every trouble and supplied every need. When there were people
- 2:21Speaker 1: around them, the disciples knew that they only had to
- 2:24Speaker 1: say to Christ, do help that woman, and it was done.
- 2:28Speaker 1: There had been thousands around them without bread, and they
- 2:31Speaker 1: wanted to send them away, but Christ had only to
- 2:35Speaker 1: tell them to bring five loaves and two fishes, and
- 2:38Speaker 1: the five thousand were fed. The presence of Jesus was
- 2:42Speaker 1: the supply of every need. They were in the storm,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and they cried, Master, we perish. The presence of Jesus
- 2:50Speaker 1: in the ship was all that was needed. He said,
- 2:53Speaker 1: peace be still, and there was a great calm when
- 2:58Speaker 1: he appeared walking on the sea. They were terrified because
- 3:01Speaker 1: they thought he was a spirit. It was only necessary
- 3:04Speaker 1: for him to say, be not afraid, and their hearts
- 3:08Speaker 1: were set at rest. When they wanted instruction, guidance, or reproof,
- 3:14Speaker 1: Christ's presence was their help. Everything depended upon having Christ
- 3:19Speaker 1: with them. And now in my life and yours, everything
- 3:23Speaker 1: depends upon having Christ's presence with us. Christ's presence is
- 3:28Speaker 1: very near and very clear. And if I can get
- 3:31Speaker 1: up in the morning, and if I can go through
- 3:33Speaker 1: the day, and if I can meet every difficulty with
- 3:36Speaker 1: the secret consciousness that the Lord Jesus the Almighty One
- 3:40Speaker 1: is with me, then I am prepared for anything. And
- 3:43Speaker 1: my heart is kept in perfect rest and in great joy.
- 3:47Speaker 1: But now Christ was to go away to heaven, and
- 3:50Speaker 1: the hearts of the disciples were very sad. But listen,
- 3:54Speaker 1: before he went away, he said, I am coming again.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I will not leave you comfortly. He told them that
- 4:02Speaker 1: it was by the Holy Spirit he was coming to them.
- 4:05Speaker 1: He promised them that he would pray the Father and
- 4:07Speaker 1: that he would send the comforter. He told them that
- 4:10Speaker 1: if they loved him, they would keep his commandments. And
- 4:13Speaker 1: then he promised to come and manifest himself unto them,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and that both he and the Father would come and
- 4:19Speaker 1: take up their abode with them. Do you see that
- 4:23Speaker 1: the Lord Jesus promised the Holy Spirit. He promised in
- 4:27Speaker 1: the first place above everything else. This his abiding presence.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And this is what the believer wants. And dear friends,
- 4:36Speaker 1: this is what our lives want. We don't know what
- 4:40Speaker 1: it is to walk with Jesus as a little child
- 4:42Speaker 1: walks with his father. And I want to press this
- 4:45Speaker 1: upon you. The Lord Jesus is longing and willing to
- 4:49Speaker 1: come so close to us and to stay so near
- 4:51Speaker 1: to us that we can have his presence always. This
- 4:56Speaker 1: is not impossible, don't think it. Jesus is able to
- 5:00Speaker 1: give us the consciousness of his abiding presence. And how
- 5:04Speaker 1: does he do it. He does it by filling us
- 5:07Speaker 1: with the Holy Spirit. This is the great work of
- 5:11Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ. Remember the words John wrote.
- 5:16Speaker 1: When Christ said, he that believeth on me, as the
- 5:19Speaker 1: scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers
- 5:23Speaker 1: of living water. But this spake he of the Spirit,
- 5:27Speaker 1: which they that believe on him should receive. For the
- 5:30Speaker 1: Holy Ghost was not yet given, because that Christ was
- 5:33Speaker 1: not yet glorified. When Christ was glorified, when He had
- 5:38Speaker 1: died and glorified the Father, and the Father had glorified
- 5:41Speaker 1: him in heaven, then the Holy Spirit came as the
- 5:45Speaker 1: Spirit of Christ to show us Christ's heavenly glory. And
- 5:49Speaker 1: that is why Christ says he shall glorify me, He
- 5:53Speaker 1: shall receive of mine and shall show it unto you.
- 5:57Speaker 1: The Holy Spirit is able to fill me with a real,
- 6:00Speaker 1: deep sense of the presence of Jesus Christ and of
- 6:03Speaker 1: his glory. This is one of the essential roots of
- 6:07Speaker 1: the Christian life, the presence of Jesus. You have heard
- 6:12Speaker 1: of what is called in England the Kezick movement. Kezick
- 6:16Speaker 1: is in the north of England. The Friends who are
- 6:19Speaker 1: at the head of this movement stand for what they
- 6:21Speaker 1: call the beginning of the spiritual life. Their great object
- 6:26Speaker 1: is to show Christians how wrong and feeble their life
- 6:29Speaker 1: is sometimes light and sometimes dark, sometimes strong and sometimes weak,
- 6:35Speaker 1: and to point out a better way. Many admit that
- 6:39Speaker 1: they ought to live a different life. They are brought
- 6:42Speaker 1: to the acknowledgment of what is wrong, to earnest self searching,
- 6:46Speaker 1: to give themselves up to God to be searched. And
- 6:49Speaker 1: when the consciousness becomes strong and deep of what is wrong,
- 6:53Speaker 1: then there is pointed out to them from God's word
- 6:56Speaker 1: what the true life is. They don't talk so much
- 7:00Speaker 1: about the baptism of the Holy Spirit at those conventions,
- 7:04Speaker 1: but the most prominent thought is Jesus Christ is the
- 7:07Speaker 1: savior from sin, and he is able to keep you allway.
- 7:12Speaker 1: They bring, by God's help many to see that Jesus
- 7:15Speaker 1: requires one step. This step only takes a moment. You
- 7:20Speaker 1: don't have to wrestle, but just throw yourself in the
- 7:23Speaker 1: arms of Christ and let that living Christ take hold
- 7:26Speaker 1: of you, never letting him go, but having him with
- 7:29Speaker 1: you all the day. Out at the cape, I met
- 7:33Speaker 1: a young missionary just returned from Keswick, where he had
- 7:36Speaker 1: been greatly blessed. I asked him what was the difference
- 7:39Speaker 1: between his former life and now. He said, it was
- 7:43Speaker 1: just the personal friendship of Jesus. This is it. You know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: the Lord Jesus is such a dear friend. He is
- 7:51Speaker 1: such a heavenly friend and such a fountain of love.
- 7:54Speaker 1: That is, if you get into the right relationship, Oh,
- 7:59Speaker 1: then you must do it. The presence of Jesus must
- 8:02Speaker 1: be like the sunlight, for the presence of Jesus makes
- 8:05Speaker 1: everything bright. How can I get this? So that I
- 8:09Speaker 1: have the Lord Jesus always with me, and I always
- 8:12Speaker 1: know it, and I never get out of the realization
- 8:15Speaker 1: of it for a minute. That is what Christ longs for.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Don't think he is content with the way most Christians live.
- 8:23Speaker 1: He is such a lover. He longs to be very
- 8:26Speaker 1: near to us and have us holy for himself. Listen, friends,
- 8:31Speaker 1: the way by which a man can always have the
- 8:34Speaker 1: presence of Christ is by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And what is that way? Why? Very simple a man
- 8:42Speaker 1: must confess. I have not been living as I should
- 8:45Speaker 1: in close fellowship with Jesus. Sometimes I have met him,
- 8:49Speaker 1: but just as often I have forgotten and forsaken him,
- 8:52Speaker 1: living after my own heart. And although I have been
- 8:56Speaker 1: kept from open sin, there has not been that holy
- 8:59Speaker 1: warmth of a man whose walk is with his Lord.
- 9:03Speaker 1: The Lord wants to have me always with him, And
- 9:06Speaker 1: the power of my Lord is to keep me always
- 9:08Speaker 1: with him. And the presence of my Lord is the
- 9:11Speaker 1: only secret of a spiritual life. Believe this, say it,
- 9:16Speaker 1: Accept him thus in the fullness of his presence. Let
- 9:20Speaker 1: me say that it is the wonderful purpose of God
- 9:23Speaker 1: to make Jesus present with me every day. And our
- 9:27Speaker 1: dear friends, if your hearts long to know Jesus fully
- 9:31Speaker 1: as the deliverer from sin, as the comfort of your soul,
- 9:35Speaker 1: are you willing to confess all of the sin of
- 9:38Speaker 1: the past, bow down in shame, and be willing to
- 9:42Speaker 1: be cleansed in the precious blood? Are you willing to
- 9:45Speaker 1: give up yourself to a life of unbroken communion with Jesus? Oh,
- 9:50Speaker 1: that God might work a deep desire in our hearts
- 9:53Speaker 1: and make us all ready to say, I want a
- 9:57Speaker 1: life of unbroken communion with Jesus. I want Jesus to
- 10:01Speaker 1: do the utmost he can for me. I want his
- 10:04Speaker 1: love to rule and work through me all day. Is
- 10:08Speaker 1: it possible? The answer comes? Have I not given the
- 10:12Speaker 1: Holy Spirit? Have I not sent the Holy Spirit into
- 10:16Speaker 1: your heart for this one purpose? That He should always
- 10:19Speaker 1: glorify Jesus in you. Oh come believers, you have the
- 10:24Speaker 1: Holy Spirit within you. Now come and bow with shame
- 10:28Speaker 1: and say, O God, how little have I let the
- 10:31Speaker 1: Holy Spirit manifest the presence of Jesus. Forgive me Father,
- 10:37Speaker 1: My heart responds, and I want to open my whole
- 10:40Speaker 1: being to him. I want to yield entirely to him.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I want to be filled completely with the Holy Spirit,
- 10:46Speaker 1: that my whole being may be under his control, so
- 10:50Speaker 1: that He may have power to reveal Christ always within me.
- 10:55Speaker 1: If you will ask that, believe God's promises, claim its fulfillment,
- 11:00Speaker 1: and say, in deep humility and faith, God is true.
- 11:03Speaker 1: The Holy Spirit is here. The Holy Spirit can and
- 11:07Speaker 1: will fill my heart. I am going to expect this,
- 11:10Speaker 1: the presence of Jesus kept in me, wrought in me,
- 11:13Speaker 1: manifested in me by the Holy Ghost. God help us,
- 11:19Speaker 1: dear friends. The first work of the Holy Spirit is
- 11:22Speaker 1: to reveal the presence of Jesus. Second, the Holy Spirit
- 11:28Speaker 1: not only reveals the presence of Jesus, but he gives
- 11:31Speaker 1: the likeness of Jesus. This is something additional. When a
- 11:36Speaker 1: young Christian comes to understand what the presence of Jesus is,
- 11:40Speaker 1: he finds how much there is of sin and flesh,
- 11:43Speaker 1: self and failure and shortcoming. And even though he has
- 11:47Speaker 1: said he consecrated himself very humbly and undividedly, he is
- 11:52Speaker 1: very conscious of how much there still is that has
- 11:54Speaker 1: not been consecrated and sacrificed. And the Holy Spirit will
- 11:58Speaker 1: lead him on. The disciples had the presence of Jesus,
- 12:03Speaker 1: though they did not have his likeness. He was humble,
- 12:07Speaker 1: they were proud, He was unselfish, They were selfish. Many
- 12:12Speaker 1: want to have the presence of Jesus to keep them up,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but they do not want to be entirely like him.
- 12:18Speaker 1: You cannot have that, they will say, I cannot expect
- 12:23Speaker 1: to be too holy. I want the presence of Jesus
- 12:26Speaker 1: very near, of course, but I don't expect to be
- 12:28Speaker 1: very much like Jesus. The Holy Spirit comes to reveal
- 12:33Speaker 1: the presence of Jesus in you, not as a separate person,
- 12:37Speaker 1: but as dwelling in your life and heart and disposition
- 12:40Speaker 1: and character. The Holy Spirit wants to reveal the very
- 12:44Speaker 1: likeness of Christ in you. The characteristics and disposition of
- 12:50Speaker 1: Christ should all come to you. What are these characteristics
- 12:54Speaker 1: and what was his disposition? I cannot mention all. But
- 12:59Speaker 1: it is a great thing when looking on Christ's character
- 13:02Speaker 1: to find out what is his chief virtue, what is
- 13:05Speaker 1: his chief characteristic? The answer is very simple humility. Did
- 13:11Speaker 1: he not say, take my yoke upon you and learn
- 13:15Speaker 1: of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and ye shall find rest to your souls. Did he
- 13:22Speaker 1: not continually speak about the Father, saying the Father hath
- 13:26Speaker 1: sent me. He wanted people to know that he was
- 13:30Speaker 1: a servant. He said in substance, I am not my
- 13:33Speaker 1: own master. The words I speak are not mine. I
- 13:37Speaker 1: don't speak of myself. I dare not speak one word
- 13:40Speaker 1: of myself. But what I hear I speak the works
- 13:45Speaker 1: that I do. I do not of myself, But the
- 13:47Speaker 1: Father has shown me the works. I can do nothing
- 13:50Speaker 1: of myself. Christ's life was a life of absolute dependence
- 13:55Speaker 1: upon the Father, to do nothing of himself, but just
- 13:59Speaker 1: to let the Father teach him, and let the Father
- 14:02Speaker 1: work in him, and let the Father carry out his will.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I seek not mine own honor, but the honor of
- 14:10Speaker 1: him that sent me. There is another who honors my honor.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I don't take care of that. I only take care
- 14:17Speaker 1: of the honor of the Father. I came not to
- 14:20Speaker 1: do mine own will. I have a will, but I
- 14:23Speaker 1: gave it up. I came to do the will of
- 14:26Speaker 1: the Father. There was with him a certain self abnegation.
- 14:31Speaker 1: He wanted to be nothing and God to be all.
- 14:35Speaker 1: His chief virtue was humility. He gave God his place
- 14:39Speaker 1: and glory. And what is the place and glory of God?
- 14:43Speaker 1: That God should be all and in all. Christ came
- 14:47Speaker 1: to man to take a humble place, to live as nothing.
- 14:52Speaker 1: God told him what to do. He tells the Father
- 14:55Speaker 1: just to work in him and show him what to do.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I am only to let God work out his purpose
- 15:01Speaker 1: in me. That is the humility of Jesus. That is
- 15:06Speaker 1: the lamb of God. Some of you have never thought
- 15:10Speaker 1: of that. You have thought of his sacrifice for sin
- 15:13Speaker 1: and especially his blood, but you have never thought of
- 15:16Speaker 1: his humility. Men must humble themselves and become nothing before
- 15:21Speaker 1: God if they wished to return to him. The Lord
- 15:25Speaker 1: Jesus came from heaven and took that name, the Lamb
- 15:28Speaker 1: of God, that he might prove to man that he
- 15:31Speaker 1: was the Lamb of God in littleness, meekness, gentleness, and humility.
- 15:37Speaker 1: And this is why Paul said, he humbled himself and
- 15:40Speaker 1: became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
- 15:45Speaker 1: He virtually said, let it cost me what it will.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I will do anything. I will die that God's will
- 15:52Speaker 1: may be done. Deep humility was the spirit of Christ.
- 15:57Speaker 1: And now when the Holy Spirit comes to us, does
- 16:00Speaker 1: he come to bring us a very different disposition? You
- 16:03Speaker 1: know the answer. The Holy Spirit wants to bring the
- 16:07Speaker 1: likeness of Jesus in us, deep dependence upon God. This
- 16:12Speaker 1: is what is wanted in the Church of Christ. There
- 16:15Speaker 1: is so much pride, selfishness, unloving and self seeking. May
- 16:21Speaker 1: God help us to see the beauty of Christ, just
- 16:24Speaker 1: to be in love with his humility, and to believe
- 16:27Speaker 1: that the Holy Spirit will breathe the humility of Christ
- 16:30Speaker 1: into us. Let me say something to you, who are
- 16:34Speaker 1: in earnest in seeking the filling of the Holy Spirit.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I have spoken to more than one. Take a very
- 16:41Speaker 1: earnest young man. He hears about this higher life. He says,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I want to get it. He struggles, feels and wills
- 16:49Speaker 1: and cannot get it. Why because there is a great
- 16:53Speaker 1: deal of self will and self trust in all that fighting,
- 16:57Speaker 1: That is not the way to get it. How did
- 17:01Speaker 1: Christ get the throne of glory by going down into
- 17:05Speaker 1: the grave, and God lifted him up to the throne.
- 17:09Speaker 1: There is the place to get glory. You must sink
- 17:12Speaker 1: down into death. It looks so difficult for you to
- 17:16Speaker 1: understand what we mean. We tell you to be in earnest.
- 17:20Speaker 1: We tell you to wrestle and make every sacrifice. We
- 17:23Speaker 1: tell you to rest not till you get it, then
- 17:27Speaker 1: fall down and become nothing. And yet both are true.
- 17:32Speaker 1: A man must set his whole soul upon the price.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And when he has struggled, he must begin to feel
- 17:38Speaker 1: all my struggling cannot help me. And when that intense
- 17:41Speaker 1: desire has been aroused, he must fall down with helplessness
- 17:45Speaker 1: and say, Lord, here I am. I can do nothing.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I lie down, I die to self. I am in despair.
- 17:55Speaker 1: When in utter despair, the blessing comes. Dear friends, The
- 18:00Speaker 1: Holy Spirit is come to work out the likeness of
- 18:02Speaker 1: Jesus in your hearts. Remember, as often as you read
- 18:07Speaker 1: the likeness of Jesus, this is what the Holy Spirit
- 18:10Speaker 1: is going to put into my heart, whether it be
- 18:13Speaker 1: self sacrifice, or whether it be humility, gentleness or poverty
- 18:18Speaker 1: Before God. Oh, do believe that the Holy Spirit is
- 18:22Speaker 1: come to bring the likeness of Christ in you. When
- 18:26Speaker 1: a soul has learnt to look for this work with
- 18:29Speaker 1: its blessings, say Lord, I want thy presence, Lord, I
- 18:33Speaker 1: want thy likeness. Lord, I want thy divine life. God
- 18:38Speaker 1: help me to have my whole life filled with the
- 18:41Speaker 1: Holy Spirit. God's answer, be filled with the Spirit. Third,
- 18:49Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit brings us not only the presence of
- 18:51Speaker 1: Jesus and the likeness of Jesus, but third the power
- 18:55Speaker 1: of Jesus. We all speak about power for work, and
- 18:59Speaker 1: come plain, we have so little of it. Many of
- 19:02Speaker 1: us are very earnest in prayer for the baptism of power.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Many of us cry for more power. All very good,
- 19:10Speaker 1: But remember power belongeth unto God and to him alone.
- 19:16Speaker 1: God has given the power to Christ, and Christ has said,
- 19:20Speaker 1: all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And there is not a shadow of spiritual power except
- 19:27Speaker 1: in Christ. And Christ cannot give me power as a
- 19:30Speaker 1: thing to have in myself. You all have been in
- 19:33Speaker 1: some great manufacturing place or factory and seen the mighty engine,
- 19:37Speaker 1: which was the great fountain of power for moving all
- 19:40Speaker 1: the machinery. Not a spindle or wheel has any power
- 19:44Speaker 1: of its own. It can only get power as it
- 19:47Speaker 1: is in connection with the engine. Just so this Christ
- 19:51Speaker 1: is a great fountain of power. He cannot communicate power
- 19:55Speaker 1: to me if I have any secret power of my
- 19:57Speaker 1: own carrying about. If I want to be filled with
- 20:02Speaker 1: the power of Jesus, as the machine must be in
- 20:05Speaker 1: momentary connection with the steam engine, so my soul must
- 20:09Speaker 1: be in momentary connection with Jesus. The power is in him,
- 20:13Speaker 1: and he, the living Christ, wants to work through me.
- 20:17Speaker 1: He said. The Father worketh in me, Paul says Colossians
- 20:22Speaker 1: one twenty nine, striving according to His working, which worketh
- 20:27Speaker 1: in me. Mightily I strive because God is working in me.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Dear friends, the Church of Christ has a great work
- 20:35Speaker 1: to do in the world. We have hardly touched the world.
- 20:40Speaker 1: What machinery and what little result we are accustomed to.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Thinking of the work we have to do. Think of
- 20:47Speaker 1: eight hundred millions of heathen who have never heard of Christ,
- 20:51Speaker 1: and of the millions of nominal Christians who have nothing
- 20:54Speaker 1: but the form of religion without the power, and the
- 20:58Speaker 1: tens of millions who are in the Church, who may
- 21:01Speaker 1: be God's own people. Yet how worldly, how full of sin,
- 21:06Speaker 1: and none can do this work, but the Living Christ.
- 21:10Speaker 1: He can do it and will do it. But how
- 21:14Speaker 1: if the Holy Spirit reveals Christ within me, my heart
- 21:18Speaker 1: will be strengthened, and I will learn to love souls
- 21:21Speaker 1: more and care for them and speak to them in
- 21:23Speaker 1: the power of Christ. Do not think that is impossible.
- 21:28Speaker 1: When a man speaks in the power of Christ, there
- 21:31Speaker 1: will be fruit. How can I have this power of
- 21:35Speaker 1: Christ working in me? How can I preach a sermon
- 21:38Speaker 1: to morrow visit some unconverted man? Or how can I
- 21:42Speaker 1: always allow the power of Christ to work through me? Listen,
- 21:47Speaker 1: I must be filled with the Spirit of God. Then
- 21:50Speaker 1: Christ can work with me. You long for power for
- 21:54Speaker 1: service Jesus Christ is the wisdom and power of God.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Get linked to Him by faith that sees and knows.
- 22:02Speaker 1: From moment to moment, his power will work in you
- 22:06Speaker 1: as the leather band brings power from the great steam engine.
- 22:10Speaker 1: From moment to moment, the Holy Spirit will keep your
- 22:13Speaker 1: heart waiting and trusting in the presence and power of Christ,
- 22:17Speaker 1: which will be revealed. And it will not be you
- 22:19Speaker 1: that works, but Christ working in you. Be filled with
- 22:24Speaker 1: the Spirit. As I said some days ago, we take
- 22:28Speaker 1: up next week studies on the person of Jesus Christ.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And this is our concluding address in regard to the
- 22:35Speaker 1: work of the Holy Spirit. Shall we gather up in
- 22:39Speaker 1: one or two thoughts, all dear friends. Let us bow
- 22:44Speaker 1: very low and very humbly in the thought that the
- 22:46Speaker 1: Great Spirit of God is waiting to get complete possession.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Oh the mystery, oh the blessing. The great Spirit of
- 22:55Speaker 1: God is waiting to get full possession. And I cannot
- 22:58Speaker 1: force him, I can not grasp him. But I can
- 23:01Speaker 1: lie down at the foot of my God and say, Father,
- 23:06Speaker 1: fill me with thy spirit. Oh, give up yourself in emptiness,
- 23:11Speaker 1: in surrender, as Jesus gave himself unto death and the grave.
- 23:16Speaker 1: And remember that God raised him to the throne of
- 23:18Speaker 1: glory and gave him the Holy Spirit to give to us.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Sink down into your nothingness and helplessness in the grave
- 23:27Speaker 1: of Jesus, and God will lift you up and fill
- 23:30Speaker 1: you with the Holy Spirit. Often he has done it.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Let us then cultivate an intense longing after righteousness. Let
- 23:40Speaker 1: us fall down very low and humble ourselves before God.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Never mind if there are difficult questions, there is God's promise,
- 23:48Speaker 1: God's gift and God's power. Wait upon God and he
- 23:52Speaker 1: will give you the filling of the Holy Ghost. Lastly, believe, believe,
- 23:59Speaker 1: believe with a desperate faith. I am convinced God means
- 24:04Speaker 1: me to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Say it,
- 24:07Speaker 1: Trust God for it, Trust God for it. Sink low
- 24:11Speaker 1: down first with your whole heart and look to God
- 24:15Speaker 1: and He will fill you. May it be the blessed
- 24:19Speaker 1: experience of every one. Let us bow in prayer.
