- 0:37Speaker 1: Had a great three hours today on the drive, talking
- 0:41Speaker 1: a lot of high school and talking some college and
- 0:43Speaker 1: all kinds of stuff. Let me get this other issue
- 0:46Speaker 1: set up here. Let me tee the show up for you.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We're going to get right on going here on a
- 0:48Speaker 1: Wednesday night. We've got Rafael Esparza on with us to
- 0:51Speaker 1: talk all things college and the NFL. We'll have Rob
- 0:53Speaker 1: Brown coming in at 8.30 with Sidelines, host of Sidelines.live,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and Rob will talk SEC football with us Big stories
- 1:01Speaker 1: coming out in the NCAA today. We'll get to it
- 1:04Speaker 1: with Rafael Esparza and more. As a matter of fact,
- 1:06Speaker 1: Esparza is already back here. Let's go ahead and bring
- 1:09Speaker 1: him on and get him in. Rafael Esparza, mybookie.ag, and others. Esparza,
- 1:15Speaker 1: can you hear me?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yes, I can. Can you hear me?
- 1:18Speaker 1: I got you. I got you. Ben, how in the
- 1:20Speaker 1: world are you tonight? Of course, we've got a lot
- 1:21Speaker 1: to get to. It's hot here in Mississippi on a
- 1:24Speaker 1: Wednesday night.
- 1:25Speaker 2: It's hot everywhere. I mean, I speak to my friends
- 1:29Speaker 2: and family in Vegas and Phoenix, you guys in Mississippi,
- 1:32Speaker 2: my brother-in-law in Florida. It's just hot everywhere. It doesn't
- 1:36Speaker 2: matter where you're at, unless you're in maybe Alaska and Maine.
- 1:40Speaker 1: No, you're absolutely right. All right, biggest story of the day.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I'm going to put this on the screen. I want
- 1:44Speaker 1: to get your thoughts. You may have seen it. It
- 1:46Speaker 1: broke late this afternoon. As we look here, courtesy of X. LSU,
- 1:53Speaker 1: former LSU edge rusher Jack Pyburn and current Tampa Bay
- 1:58Speaker 1: Buccaneers defensive end filed a lawsuit today against the NCAA
- 2:01Speaker 1: seeking a preliminary injunction that will give him the option
- 2:04Speaker 1: to return to college. Sources tell these guys, Chris Hummer
- 2:07Speaker 1: and others on On3 Sports. I bring that up because
- 2:10Speaker 1: there's like 10 guys now that are in NFL camps
- 2:14Speaker 1: that are looking to come back to college. And think
- 2:17Speaker 1: about this now. We're 10 days away from week zero.
- 2:20Speaker 1: We're less than two weeks away from week one. I
- 2:23Speaker 1: think this is a case of, one, you know, these
- 2:25Speaker 1: judges getting involved in the NCAA, which they have no
- 2:27Speaker 1: business being. And the two of these guys know they're
- 2:29Speaker 1: not going to make the 53-man roster. They're just– they're not.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Have you seen this? Do you have any thoughts on this?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you're dead right that they're not going to make
- 2:37Speaker 2: the roster. And I'm glad that they're not. Boo-hoo for
- 2:40Speaker 2: a jumping ship thinking you were going to make it
- 2:42Speaker 2: to the NFL because you either got bad advice, you
- 2:46Speaker 2: probably got bad parent advice because I think a lot
- 2:48Speaker 2: of these kids make moves because their parents– are telling
- 2:51Speaker 2: them to make the jump, maybe even take more money
- 2:56Speaker 2: like NIL and stuff like that. So to me, it's just,
- 2:59Speaker 2: you can't open up that can of worms and say,
- 3:02Speaker 2: you just said week zero is 10 days away. And
- 3:04Speaker 2: you can't say, okay, you can go to LSU. There's
- 3:07Speaker 2: no way, A, these players are going to accept this
- 3:09Speaker 2: guy in the locker room, this kid in the locker room,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and you nailed it. They're not going to make the roster.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, I agree with you. A lot
- 3:17Speaker 1: of people won't want them in the locker room, but
- 3:19Speaker 1: then some will. Let's just say take Ole Miss, who
- 3:21Speaker 1: has three guys that are looking to come back, if
- 3:24Speaker 1: Ole Miss doesn't have a place for them and the
- 3:25Speaker 1: transfer portal window is open, which it looks like it
- 3:27Speaker 1: will be, let's say Ohio State needs another defensive end.
- 3:31Speaker 1: What happens to the guy? I mean, you only got
- 3:33Speaker 1: so many spots. If you have no spots, does a
- 3:36Speaker 1: guy get kicked to the curb? I have so many
- 3:38Speaker 1: questions about this today.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I still don't think other schools would take that just
- 3:44Speaker 2: because you're opening up Pandora's box even wider than it
- 3:50Speaker 2: is already. And I don't want to hear we'll use
- 3:54Speaker 2: Ole Miss. Okay, Ole Miss accepts these three guys. The
- 3:57Speaker 2: transfer port is open. One of them goes to Ohio
- 3:59Speaker 2: State and Ohio State says, OK, we'll take you. And
- 4:01Speaker 2: then down the road, two years ago, Ohio State's complaining
- 4:04Speaker 2: because something happened to them. Well, they're the one that
- 4:06Speaker 2: baked the cake. So you got to keep on stop
- 4:10Speaker 2: baking a cake and just just dump the cake, because
- 4:12Speaker 2: if you keep on baking and you keep on eating it,
- 4:15Speaker 2: it's going to come back and bite you.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Let's jump over to some odds courtesy of several shops.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I want to get your thoughts. I want to talk
- 4:23Speaker 1: a little national championship odds. And, you know, the AP
- 4:26Speaker 1: came out. I know we talked on the Daily Show
- 4:28Speaker 1: the other day about our like or dislike for the
- 4:31Speaker 1: AP poll. I want to look at some of these
- 4:33Speaker 1: real quickly. Let me see if I could pull this
- 4:35Speaker 1: up just for the viewing purposes here on the retail
- 4:40Speaker 1: shops here. You know, when we look at some of
- 4:42Speaker 1: these and let me make sure, you know, we've got
- 4:45Speaker 1: them right here. Let me hide that logo just to
- 4:47Speaker 1: kind of get that out of the way there. So
- 4:50Speaker 1: let's start with Notre Dame. And depending on the shop,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and I know you've got numbers, you do numbers, Notre
- 4:54Speaker 1: Dame right now, At plus 550, Ohio State at six
- 4:58Speaker 1: to one. You know, Notre Dame has been a favorite,
- 5:01Speaker 1: I think, by Vegas, you know, for most of the preseason.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Your thoughts on Notre Dame at, you know, right around
- 5:08Speaker 1: five to five and a half and their value. Obviously,
- 5:11Speaker 1: you guys love Notre Dame this year.
- 5:13Speaker 2: It's not that we love Notre Dame. It's just the
- 5:16Speaker 2: money keeps on coming in on Notre Dame. I tell
- 5:19Speaker 2: people this all the time. If you see a favorite,
- 5:21Speaker 2: it does not mean Vegas thinks they're the favorite that's
- 5:24Speaker 2: going to win it. That's telling you that the betting
- 5:26Speaker 2: public is making them the favorite as the money keeps
- 5:29Speaker 2: on coming in. Notre Dame, every year, Notre Dame has
- 5:33Speaker 2: probably the top three tickets written for futures because there's
- 5:37Speaker 2: so many touchdown Jesus fans out there. They're the Dallas
- 5:40Speaker 2: Cowboys fans. of college football. Yes, they're popular. Yes, this
- 5:44Speaker 2: is our year. Do they make it our year? No.
- 5:46Speaker 2: They're like my Chicago Cubs until 2016 when we finally
- 5:49Speaker 2: won the World Series. It's just constant money coming in.
- 5:53Speaker 2: This year is different because that schedule is very, very weak.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So I think that's probably a little bit boostering, a
- 6:01Speaker 2: little bit more money coming in on Notre Dame. But
- 6:04Speaker 2: you can still make it to the dance. Doesn't mean
- 6:06Speaker 2: you're going to complete the dance. And I don't think
- 6:07Speaker 2: you're going to complete the dance.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Now, Ohio State, this is a team that won it
- 6:11Speaker 1: a couple years ago. You know, Big Ten, obviously we
- 6:14Speaker 1: know three straight national championships, Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana. And, boy,
- 6:18Speaker 1: I tell you what, Indiana, there's some videos coming out
- 6:20Speaker 1: of Indiana camp. Their new quarterback that comes over, Josh
- 6:23Speaker 1: Hoover from TCU, he looks really, really good. We'll get
- 6:25Speaker 1: to Indiana in a bit. But, you know, here's what's
- 6:27Speaker 1: interesting about NIL and pay-for-play is, you know, it's documented
- 6:30Speaker 1: by several sources like, you know, the Wall Street Journal, also,
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know, Sports Business Journal and others. Ohio State spent
- 6:38Speaker 1: around $ 25 million a couple years ago on that team
- 6:41Speaker 1: they won. This year, they'll spend close to $ 40 million
- 6:44Speaker 1: to $ 50 million if they win it. It looks like
- 6:46Speaker 1: Ryan Day has got a really good football team. The
- 6:48Speaker 1: AP thinks so. They're number one in the preseason.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I just think they're spending because they need a win.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I mean, Michigan has their number, except for last year.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Indiana surprised everybody. Everyone's talking about Notre Dame, Texas. Oregon,
- 7:05Speaker 2: I just think Ohio State, they got okay to write
- 7:08Speaker 2: the checks because I think they just need a championship
- 7:11Speaker 2: right now. They're almost like the New York Yankees back
- 7:14Speaker 2: in the day. That's what Ohio State's reminding me. They're
- 7:17Speaker 2: just signing, signing. And sometimes money doesn't usually pay. Don't forget,
- 7:20Speaker 2: Luis Gonzalez, the Arizona Diamondbacks, when they beat the Yankees,
- 7:24Speaker 2: a little base hit up the middle. That payroll for
- 7:26Speaker 2: Arizona was not big. And I just think sometimes money
- 7:29Speaker 2: doesn't pay. Look at Texas Tech.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you're absolutely right. Speaking of Texas Tech, but
- 7:35Speaker 1: let's go to Texas. You know, everybody eye rolls Texas.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We talked about Texas last week when you were on here,
- 7:40Speaker 1: and we've talked about Texas before. Nobody's going to believe
- 7:43Speaker 1: Texas or Oregon right there. Oregon at 7-1, Texas at 7-1.
- 7:47Speaker 1: But both have really good quarterbacks. Both have really good teams. And,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you know, when you look at Indiana right behind them
- 7:53Speaker 1: and then Georgia and then Miami, I don't know if
- 7:55Speaker 1: that's the cut line behind Miami. Where is the cut
- 7:58Speaker 1: line to the real contenders this year?
- 8:01Speaker 2: I think it is right there. I think there's, what,
- 8:03Speaker 2: seven teams that I would have up there. I think
- 8:05Speaker 2: the cut line is Miami because no disrespect to the
- 8:09Speaker 2: Bayou Bengals, LSU. I just don't think they're– I don't
- 8:13Speaker 2: have them up there. And I can't say Texas A
- 8:16Speaker 2: & M just because how many years have we said
- 8:18Speaker 2: this is Texas A & M' s year. So I think
- 8:21Speaker 2: the cut line is Miami. I'll have Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon.
- 8:26Speaker 2: You know what? I'm not even going to say Indiana
- 8:27Speaker 2: because I'm still not sold on them. I'll say Georgia, Miami,
- 8:30Speaker 2: and then maybe I'm going to say Indiana might be
- 8:32Speaker 2: that cut. Like I would make Indiana probably double digits.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I don't think they're worthy of a single digits to
- 8:39Speaker 2: win it all.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You know, Alabama down, down the, you know, down the
- 8:44Speaker 1: chute there around 20 to one lowest ranking in the
- 8:47Speaker 1: AP in 20 years, lowest odds. And gosh, you can
- 8:50Speaker 1: probably tell me this 20 years, maybe since we're 17 years.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Are we undervaluing Alabama? Yes.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I mean, it's because they just bash them now. I mean, boy,
- 9:01Speaker 2: ever since Nick Saban left, they're just a laughingstock, I think,
- 9:04Speaker 2: of the SEC since Saban is gone. It doesn't help
- 9:07Speaker 2: when the media is trashing them, saying that, oh, this
- 9:11Speaker 2: head coach stinks if he doesn't win. 12 games every year,
- 9:15Speaker 2: they should fire him. It's not Alabama's way. Well, this
- 9:17Speaker 2: is not college football back in the day when Nick
- 9:20Speaker 2: Saban was there. This is a totally different game, but
- 9:22Speaker 2: I think they're a little bit undervalued. I just think
- 9:24Speaker 2: their offensive line needs to play much better than we
- 9:26Speaker 2: saw last year. I think that's why their offense struggled
- 9:29Speaker 2: because their offensive line was not good. I'm not going
- 9:32Speaker 2: to say they're better than Texas and Georgia. I think
- 9:34Speaker 2: maybe even Oklahoma might be a little bit up there
- 9:37Speaker 2: with Alabama, but I think the creme of the cremes
- 9:40Speaker 2: of the SEC, it's got to be Texas and Georgia.
- 9:43Speaker 1: What about USC? I know we've talked about USC with
- 9:46Speaker 1: you before. You know, Lincoln Riley's been very vocal this
- 9:49Speaker 1: year about his team. He likes his team. He likes
- 9:52Speaker 1: his quarterback, Jaden Mavia. They're a team that, you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: I think when the Pac-12 and they merged recently, know
- 10:00Speaker 1: essentially with the big 10 everybody would have said 10
- 10:03Speaker 1: years ago it's usc usc is going to come in
- 10:05Speaker 1: and wreck the place they have they haven't done that
- 10:07Speaker 1: it's been oregon can usc be a player not only
- 10:11Speaker 1: in the big 10 but nationally this year.
- 10:13Speaker 2: I think I like what USC has done. I mean,
- 10:15Speaker 2: I guess their quarterback is going to be much experienced
- 10:17Speaker 2: this year, but they boosted their offensive line. And I
- 10:19Speaker 2: think we talked about this last year. If you want
- 10:21Speaker 2: to play the Big Ten, yes, there's a lot of
- 10:23Speaker 2: new faces in the Big Ten, but you still need
- 10:25Speaker 2: to play Big Ten football. And that's run the ball.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And USC sometimes likes to get a little bit too
- 10:30Speaker 2: cute with their quarterback and their wide receivers and tight ends.
- 10:35Speaker 2: So I think if they can run the ball, they'll
- 10:36Speaker 2: be a little bit much better than we've seen in
- 10:38Speaker 2: years past. But it's going to be very hard to
- 10:40Speaker 2: beat Oregon today. and everyone else in a Big Ten schedule. Hey,
- 10:45Speaker 2: let's talk.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Of course, Rafael Esparza is with us, and you can
- 10:48Speaker 1: follow him on X, TikTok, and more. He's been doing sports.
- 10:51Speaker 1: You've been handicapping how long now?
- 10:53Speaker 2: Wow. It's going to be close to 30 years.
- 10:56Speaker 1: 30 years. So, I mean, he's one of the best
- 10:58Speaker 1: in the business. That's why we get him on. Go
- 11:00Speaker 1: to mybookie.ag, use the promo code, and you can get
- 11:03Speaker 1: in and play with a sign-up bonus. So, let me
- 11:05Speaker 1: ask you about win totals, because a lot of people,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I think, get confused with win totals. They'll say, Oh,
- 11:10Speaker 1: my gosh. Ole Miss at only eight and a half.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I mean, what are you talking about? They just almost
- 11:14Speaker 1: played for a national championship. Win totals take us through
- 11:17Speaker 1: how those are not how the cake is made, but
- 11:19Speaker 1: the rationale, because as a sports gamer and somebody that
- 11:23Speaker 1: wants to, you know, get action, you got to get
- 11:25Speaker 1: action on both sides.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So if you got people arguing over, oh, it's eight
- 11:29Speaker 1: and a half. Are you kidding? They're above it. They're
- 11:30Speaker 1: below it. You guys have done your job of that.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It's for this case right here. It's brilliant for us
- 11:36Speaker 2: to do it because we're going to get the LSU
- 11:38Speaker 2: lovers that's going to bet the under an Ole Miss
- 11:41Speaker 2: and you get to get Ole Miss things. Oh, you know,
- 11:43Speaker 2: it's screw Kiffin. We're going to go double digit wins.
- 11:46Speaker 2: So for us, it was a perfect number to get
- 11:49Speaker 2: balance action because you had. Two hateful sides. It was
- 11:53Speaker 2: almost like back in the day when Tom Brady and
- 11:55Speaker 2: the Patriots were just winning Super Bowls. We would set
- 11:58Speaker 2: the number just a tad lower than it actually should.
- 12:02Speaker 2: But we had to because there were so many haters
- 12:05Speaker 2: than there were believers of Tom Brady and the Patriots.
- 12:08Speaker 2: So we would get so much hate money. And right
- 12:10Speaker 2: here is a perfect example. We're getting so much hate money.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Both sides to balance it off. So it's a great number.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I thought it should have been a tad higher. I
- 12:18Speaker 2: like this Ole Miss team. I think they're going to
- 12:21Speaker 2: do well because they still have a chip on their shoulder.
- 12:23Speaker 2: It's not like two, three years that Kiffin left. This
- 12:27Speaker 2: is still really, really raw. And I think these kids,
- 12:30Speaker 2: they're going to put the uniform on and want to
- 12:31Speaker 2: play not only for their head coach, but for their state,
- 12:35Speaker 2: for their fans, and for the logo that's on the helmet.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Yeah. And, you know, when you look at a team
- 12:41Speaker 1: like Georgia, who maybe has, and I did notice this,
- 12:45Speaker 1: and unless it's changed, I don't have him in front
- 12:46Speaker 1: of me, no SEC team with a double digit win
- 12:49Speaker 1: total this year, unless that's changed, which is very interesting
- 12:52Speaker 1: to me.
- 12:54Speaker 2: That's why you already know my pick is Oregon to
- 12:57Speaker 2: win it all. But I have Oregon beating Georgia in
- 13:02Speaker 2: a national championship. It would not shock me. And you
- 13:05Speaker 2: know me. I love to bash the SEC. Been doing
- 13:07Speaker 2: it on your show for years past. But it would
- 13:10Speaker 2: not shock me if the SEC, if the only team
- 13:13Speaker 2: I think SEC would win, it would be Georgia this year.
- 13:16Speaker 2: It's the only team that I think they can probably
- 13:18Speaker 2: win it all. I love their defense. I love the
- 13:20Speaker 2: speed and the secondary defense. I love the running backs.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Georgia is going to be a tough out. That's why
- 13:25Speaker 2: I have them playing Oregon in the national championship.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Rafael Esparza on with us tonight. Let's shift over and
- 13:31Speaker 1: talk a little NFL. First off, are you at least
- 13:35Speaker 1: I know you're not a big NFL preseason guy. Are
- 13:37Speaker 1: you at least intrigued with all the fights that's.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Going on at camp? I was really intrigued with the Saints.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Who would have thought a former dad that's a former
- 13:46Speaker 2: wrestler body slams a Cowboys fan? That's just great social media.
- 13:52Speaker 2: But no, it doesn't really bother me with these fights.
- 13:54Speaker 2: And I tell people, everyone keeps on asking me, oh,
- 13:57Speaker 2: is week two betting action going to be much higher
- 14:00Speaker 2: than week one? You have to be put... Now that
- 14:03Speaker 2: all these teams are playing another team in practice, the
- 14:07Speaker 2: starters are going to play these practices. They're going to
- 14:09Speaker 2: get these snaps against the other team that they're practicing.
- 14:12Speaker 2: They're not going to get the snaps in week two preseason.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Week two preseason is still for the backups and for
- 14:18Speaker 2: the third stringers and maybe the fourth stringers who are
- 14:21Speaker 2: still trying to make the practice squad. So I don't
- 14:24Speaker 2: think it just because week two, Oh yeah, the starters will, Oh,
- 14:27Speaker 2: the starters are playing. They're probably playing a couple of snaps,
- 14:29Speaker 2: maybe one quarter. Are you going to risk your money
- 14:32Speaker 2: or a hard earned money on a third and fourth
- 14:34Speaker 2: stringer in a third and fourth quarter stuff like that.
- 14:37Speaker 2: So be very cautious just because it's week two, but
- 14:40Speaker 2: I love the fights and I love these teams playing
- 14:43Speaker 2: another team and practices.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Let's take a look at the futures for the Superbowl
- 14:47Speaker 1: real quickly. And I want to get your thoughts on
- 14:50Speaker 1: this because again, It seems like if we look at this,
- 14:52Speaker 1: let me pull this in here, you'll see real quickly
- 14:56Speaker 1: the Rams. It looks like, from what I see, I mean,
- 15:00Speaker 1: the Rams are sitting at 5-1 to win the Super Bowl.
- 15:03Speaker 1: We know how talented they are. And then 10-1 for
- 15:05Speaker 1: the Bills, 11-1 to the Ravens and the Seahawks, and
- 15:08Speaker 1: then a big drop to Kansas City at 15-1 and
- 15:11Speaker 1: then Detroit. Have we had a year like this where it's,
- 15:15Speaker 1: you know, typically we get one or two or three
- 15:17Speaker 1: teams at the top, that have a pretty– it looks
- 15:20Speaker 1: like a large disparity between the Rams and everybody else
- 15:23Speaker 1: this year.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Well, I just think the Rams have dominated the news.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I mean, with Donald probably coming back. I mean, defense
- 15:31Speaker 2: is just going to be lights out. I'm still very cautious.
- 15:35Speaker 2: If their quarterback goes out with a back injury, and
- 15:38Speaker 2: I can really talk about back injuries because I'm suffering
- 15:41Speaker 2: from one right now, I think they're done. I mean,
- 15:43Speaker 2: they're not going to be the Baltimore Ravens who won
- 15:46Speaker 2: the Super Bowl because of defense, but they had a
- 15:48Speaker 2: running game. They had a really good offensive line. the
- 15:51Speaker 2: Ravens did when they won that Super Bowl with Flacco's
- 15:54Speaker 2: first year. So the health of the offense kind of
- 15:58Speaker 2: scares me about the Rams. The defense doesn't scare me
- 16:01Speaker 2: because not only do they have stars all over the field,
- 16:03Speaker 2: but their backup defensive players are really good as well.
- 16:07Speaker 2: But I understand why people are betting the Rams because
- 16:10Speaker 2: they're dominating social media. They're dominating the news in the NFL.
- 16:14Speaker 2: So it would not shock me that they continue to
- 16:16Speaker 2: be the bet favorites.
- 16:19Speaker 1: You don't hear a whole lot about the Super Bowl
- 16:21Speaker 1: champion Seahawks. At least I haven't. I mean, I'm sure
- 16:24Speaker 1: it is in the Midwest. But are we underselling the
- 16:29Speaker 1: Seahawks here?
- 16:31Speaker 2: I mean, you can get them anywhere from 10-0-1. I
- 16:33Speaker 2: even saw 14-0-1 on a defending champions who pretty much
- 16:37Speaker 2: have everyone back. And they're like, oh, but they lost
- 16:39Speaker 2: their running back. Running backs are still a dime a dozen.
- 16:42Speaker 2: There's maybe two or three running backs I cannot say
- 16:45Speaker 2: they're a dime a dozen. Everyone else in the league,
- 16:47Speaker 2: a running back is a dime a dozen. I think
- 16:50Speaker 2: they didn't lose that much of this team. They're still
- 16:52Speaker 2: going to have a fantastic defense. Can their quarterback do
- 16:58Speaker 2: what he did last year? Last year, he had a
- 17:00Speaker 2: chip on his shoulder. Brand new jersey. He wanted to
- 17:02Speaker 2: show the Vikings that he could still play. He won
- 17:05Speaker 2: the Super Bowl. Who's going to be that team this
- 17:07Speaker 2: year that has maybe a new quarterback with a new
- 17:10Speaker 2: jersey that can still do that? I think the Seahawks.
- 17:15Speaker 2: They have a bullseye in their head. I don't see
- 17:17Speaker 2: them repeating, but they are getting disrespected.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Who's the best team in the AFC? I know a
- 17:21Speaker 1: lot of people are going to pick Baltimore. Vegas likes Baltimore.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Is it Baltimore?
- 17:25Speaker 2: I do not like the Bills or both. I've been
- 17:27Speaker 2: saying this since last year, beginning of last year. The
- 17:29Speaker 2: Bills' window's closed. I think the Ravens' window's closed. I
- 17:32Speaker 2: think this quarterback with Lamar Jackson, still not signed and
- 17:36Speaker 2: stuff like that. King Henry gets older every year. I'm
- 17:39Speaker 2: not saying that he stinks, but right now. But in
- 17:42Speaker 2: the NFL... Years past usually catches up to you. And
- 17:46Speaker 2: sooner or later, Father Time's going to catch up to
- 17:48Speaker 2: King Henry. Father Time's going to catch up to Lamar Jackson,
- 17:51Speaker 2: who got hurt last year. I can't put my hard-earned
- 17:53Speaker 2: money on those two teams. I can't put it on
- 17:55Speaker 2: the Bengals because they still haven't showed me anything in
- 17:58Speaker 2: the defense. That's why I think the NFC, if you
- 18:00Speaker 2: can get who's going to win a Super Bowl, NFC
- 18:02Speaker 2: or AFC, I would grab the NFC. It's a really
- 18:05Speaker 2: short number. NFC just has so many good teams. And
- 18:08Speaker 2: AFC just has so many question marks.
- 18:11Speaker 1: No, they do. Speaking of question marks, and you know,
- 18:13Speaker 1: I think I've told you this. I don't talk a
- 18:14Speaker 1: lot about them. The Miami Dolphins, that is my favorite team.
- 18:17Speaker 1: It always has. Yeah, I know. Look, haven't seen anything
- 18:20Speaker 1: since Danny Marino. Look, they haven't made the playoffs since 2000.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I think that's the longest streak in the NFL. You
- 18:26Speaker 1: look at a franchise like that, you have to start
- 18:28Speaker 1: scratching your head and go, why? Like, why are they
- 18:31Speaker 1: so bad? You look at the Jets. Why? Cleveland. Why?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Some of these franchises, you know, we talk so much
- 18:38Speaker 1: about the Super Bowl side, but Why are some of
- 18:41Speaker 1: these franchises so bad? Does it come down to ownership?
- 18:44Speaker 2: I think it does come down to ownership. I mean,
- 18:46Speaker 2: is that like they're not spending money? I think they're
- 18:48Speaker 2: just getting bad advice and the players that they're spending
- 18:50Speaker 2: money on just don't work out. I mean, look at
- 18:52Speaker 2: the Jets. How many times did they sign someone and think, oh,
- 18:55Speaker 2: this is going to change their season? And it just doesn't.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So I think a lot of it has to do
- 18:59Speaker 2: with ownership. I don't know what's going on in Miami.
- 19:02Speaker 2: That's a big puzzling. They did strike out on Tua.
- 19:05Speaker 2: They thought he was going to be that quarterback, and
- 19:08Speaker 2: he wasn't. I'm glad that they moved on from him now.
- 19:13Speaker 2: We talked about this last week. This quarterback class that's
- 19:16Speaker 2: coming in next year is really, really, really good. So
- 19:19Speaker 2: if you're the Dolphins and all that, okay, maybe... yes
- 19:23Speaker 2: let's win less than four and a half because i
- 19:25Speaker 2: total season wins is four and a half i can't
- 19:27Speaker 2: i i have looked at the dolphin schedule for the
- 19:30Speaker 2: past two i cannot find a fifth win i have
- 19:33Speaker 2: them dead three i can't either and i'm not saying
- 19:38Speaker 2: it to make fun of the dolphin fans and i'm
- 19:40Speaker 2: including you i didn't know you were a dolphin fan
- 19:42Speaker 2: i cannot find a fifth.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Win yeah well you wouldn't know i'm a dolphin fan
- 19:46Speaker 1: because we don't ever talk about them because they're not
- 19:47Speaker 1: like literally i've told beaver before even on air on
- 19:50Speaker 1: our show on ESPN Radio 105.9 is last year. I
- 19:53Speaker 1: thought about doing something I never thought I would do
- 19:55Speaker 1: is switching NFL teams. I'm not a big believer in that,
- 19:58Speaker 1: but I'm like, man, it's been look, it was the
- 20:01Speaker 1: year 2000. We're talking about pre pre iPhone, you know,
- 20:04Speaker 1: pre inter, I mean, pre social media. And why Dan
- 20:08Speaker 1: Marino has never gotten more involved with that franchise, I'll
- 20:10Speaker 1: never know. Maybe he's tried.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I have no idea. I was at Caesars Palace in
- 20:14Speaker 2: 2000 with the Miami. Really? Yeah, I was working at
- 20:17Speaker 2: Caesars Palace in their sports book.
- 20:19Speaker 1: We got a few more minutes left here with Rafael Esparza.
- 20:21Speaker 1: We're going to let him tell you where you can
- 20:22Speaker 1: get all his content.
- 20:23Speaker 2: I'm going to answer Sean's question. Sean in the chat,
- 20:25Speaker 2: how about them boys? I'm going to say it right here.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I'm going to say it right here. I said in
- 20:29Speaker 2: a couple shows that I do, I do a lot
- 20:31Speaker 2: of shows, Dallas Cowboys win the division. I don't like
- 20:35Speaker 2: the Eagles. I think they might be firing their head coach.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I think Hurst is– Too many people in his head.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I think the Dallas Cowboys win the division. I don't
- 20:45Speaker 2: like the commanders, especially with Jane Daniels, number five contract.
- 20:50Speaker 2: I heard they're ripping him in a locker room. And
- 20:53Speaker 2: so when they're making fun of you in a locker room,
- 20:56Speaker 2: I bet you a lot of those players think that
- 20:58Speaker 2: they're being funny but actually being harsh at the same time.
- 21:01Speaker 2: And he thinks... They're just joking around. That's just a horrible,
- 21:05Speaker 2: horrible thing to go into the season, being the punch
- 21:08Speaker 2: of the joke. And it's going to be all season long.
- 21:10Speaker 2: It's not going to go away. And I just don't
- 21:13Speaker 2: trust the New York Giants. We saw them almost lose
- 21:15Speaker 2: their quarterback last week. Jackson Dart got crushed. He's going
- 21:19Speaker 2: to be maybe in a tent more than they might
- 21:21Speaker 2: win wins. So I think it's the Cowboys. I love
- 21:24Speaker 2: their offense. They had one of the best drafts. I
- 21:27Speaker 2: think their draft had great, great signings by the defense.
- 21:31Speaker 2: And it's hard for me to say Cowboys because my
- 21:33Speaker 2: twin brother is a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan, and there's
- 21:37Speaker 2: nothing better for me than sending him memes about how
- 21:39Speaker 2: bad the Cowboys are. Ooh, and they just lost another one.
- 21:42Speaker 2: It makes my day on NFL Sunday, but I think
- 21:45Speaker 2: they win a division.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Could you imagine if the Cowboys make the Super Bowl
- 21:50Speaker 1: how obnoxious that fan base would be?
- 21:53Speaker 2: It would be obnoxious, but it would be good for
- 21:55Speaker 2: the league at the same time. Yeah. I agree. I mean,
- 21:59Speaker 2: I know people are like, oh, finally they'll win one.
- 22:02Speaker 2: But can you imagine? It's like the Knicks. Look how
- 22:04Speaker 2: the Knicks won the NBA championship. That was great for
- 22:06Speaker 2: the league. Fantastic for the league. And I think it
- 22:10Speaker 2: would benefit the league. Yes, we would all still make
- 22:13Speaker 2: fun of them. This would be the only Super Bowl
- 22:14Speaker 2: champ that Monday we're all still make fun of them.
- 22:16Speaker 2: They'll be like, finally they won a Super Bowl. Yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 2: we would still make fun of them. But they're Super
- 22:21Speaker 2: Bowl champs. It doesn't matter if we make fun of
- 22:23Speaker 2: them on Super Bowl Monday.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Hey, before we get you out of here, let me
- 22:26Speaker 1: ask you this. You probably saw it. Roger Goodell said
- 22:28Speaker 1: yesterday he was on a radio show or a podcast. Hey, yes,
- 22:32Speaker 1: he envisions the NFL will have a team overseas at
- 22:35Speaker 1: some point. And we've talked about this. They're not playing
- 22:38Speaker 1: all these games overseas. I think, what is it? How
- 22:40Speaker 1: many games?
- 22:40Speaker 2: Seven?
- 22:41Speaker 1: Maybe I'm under seven this year. Seven this year. When
- 22:44Speaker 1: do we get that team and where is.
- 22:45Speaker 2: It at maybe? I think it's probably going to be
- 22:49Speaker 2: in England or something like that. I mean, they'll probably
- 22:51Speaker 2: just make the Jacksonville Jaguars play there. That's their second home.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And I think that's the knife that might start bringing
- 23:00Speaker 2: down the high point of the NFL. I mean, we've
- 23:03Speaker 2: seen what it just reminds me of when NASCAR was
- 23:06Speaker 2: such a high peak and all of a sudden every
- 23:09Speaker 2: state wanted two races instead of one race. They went, OK,
- 23:13Speaker 2: we want Vegas one or we want two races now
- 23:15Speaker 2: in Vegas. And it just will go down. I think
- 23:17Speaker 2: if they go overseas, if they put a team there,
- 23:20Speaker 2: I think that brings that could be the popularity that
- 23:23Speaker 2: brings them down and not the old mega NFL fans
- 23:26Speaker 2: are not going to like that. Players are not going
- 23:28Speaker 2: to like that traveling and stuff like that. I think
- 23:30Speaker 2: that brings the NFL back to some I don't want
- 23:33Speaker 2: to say it's not going to be the number one
- 23:35Speaker 2: sport in America. I'm not saying that, but I think
- 23:37Speaker 2: that's going to hurt a lot of fan bases. Yeah.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Sean says he's driving to SoFi after Cowboys make it, though.
- 23:43Speaker 2: We'll be there, Sean. I would love to meet you.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I think this is my sixth Super Bowl doing media roles.
- 23:50Speaker 2: And FanDuel has tried to kick me out four straight years,
- 23:53Speaker 2: so I'm going to try to make that a record
- 23:54Speaker 2: five straight. Really? Really.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Do you care to elaborate on that or is that
- 23:58Speaker 1: a cut? No.
- 23:59Speaker 2: No, I mean, because you know me, I do all
- 24:01Speaker 2: the crazy prep bets and they don't like me working
- 24:05Speaker 2: with non-sanctioned books like my bookie and stuff like that
- 24:10Speaker 2: and all the other books and stuff like that. And
- 24:11Speaker 2: the one in Vegas was the one that really pissed
- 24:14Speaker 2: me off because I'm not saying I'm the only one
- 24:16Speaker 2: that did Taylor Swift betting ads when the Kansas City Chiefs,
- 24:19Speaker 2: but I probably did 80% of the ones that the
- 24:23Speaker 2: people were using a Taylor Swift and everyone wanted to
- 24:26Speaker 2: talk to me on press row. Everyone, Oh, you're the
- 24:27Speaker 2: one that did all that. Yeah.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:29Speaker 2: So everyone, but Brandy was getting so mad. And so
- 24:32Speaker 2: then I heard that they were trying to get me
- 24:33Speaker 2: to escort it out. They, they were like, he works there.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't work. I'm a consultant there. I
- 24:39Speaker 2: consult them. I don't, I don't have a employee number.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I don't have stock on them, but yeah. So, and
- 24:46Speaker 2: then last year I made odds for, do you remember that, uh,
- 24:49Speaker 2: Eli and Peyton were going to kick a field goal.
- 24:52Speaker 2: It was at two years ago, so I did odds
- 24:53Speaker 2: on that, and they couldn't put odds on that. I
- 24:55Speaker 2: was in front of their booth the whole time doing
- 24:58Speaker 2: TikTok shorts and stuff like that, saying when the number
- 25:01Speaker 2: would move, hey, you can still bet that over here
- 25:02Speaker 2: and stuff like that. That was on me. I was
- 25:05Speaker 2: poking the bear.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Hey, tell everybody where to follow you on social media channels.
- 25:08Speaker 1: We want to come see you.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you can follow me on X at VSA.Sports. You
- 25:12Speaker 2: can follow me on Instagram at Rafael Esparza. I'll be
- 25:15Speaker 2: putting out a lot of new stuff out there. I
- 25:17Speaker 2: have a new segment called A Trend is My Cashing Friend.
- 25:20Speaker 2: We're 3-0 on a new one, stuff like that. It
- 25:22Speaker 2: all depends on what the number you got. I'm glad
- 25:24Speaker 2: you mentioned that. Please shop around. If you have DraftKings
- 25:27Speaker 2: and FanDuel, Also, open up another book, My Bookie, a
- 25:31Speaker 2: perfect example. Notre Dame, some books have 701, 801. My
- 25:34Speaker 2: Bookie has plus 850. Why would you take 701 at
- 25:38Speaker 2: your DraftKings and FanBook when you can get plus 850
- 25:41Speaker 2: in another book? Always shop around to get the best number.
- 25:45Speaker 1: He's Rafael Esparza. You can get him on X. You

- 25:50Speaker 1: appreciate you, brother. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Take it easy. Have a good one. Thanks.

- 25:55Speaker 1: We are brought to you by my bookie. Get in
- 25:57Speaker 1: and use the promo code patio today and play. You'll

- 26:08Speaker 1: up late with us tonight. Rob, thank you and welcome
- 26:10Speaker 1: to the patio Periscope.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I love it, man. We actually taken off a couple
- 26:15Speaker 3: of weeks and we're launching our new website and everything Monday.
- 26:18Speaker 3: So I love it, man. I don't care morning, midday, night.
- 26:22Speaker 3: If I'm on with JW, Jake Wimberly, it is a blast.
- 26:25Speaker 3: And just got in from mountain biking. You got to
- 26:27Speaker 3: take advantage of the cool time of the day. I
- 26:30Speaker 3: think it's only 93 up here in Memphis. It's just,
- 26:33Speaker 3: I mean, but you know what? You can feel footballs
- 26:36Speaker 3: in the air. It's going to start getting cooler, at
- 26:38Speaker 3: least in our heads.
- 26:40Speaker 1: No, you're right. And look, hey, we want to make
- 26:41Speaker 1: sure when you get that new website launched, we get
- 26:43Speaker 1: that out for you.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Check out, are y'all on this week?
- 26:47Speaker 3: No, we're not taking off this week. My wife, we
- 26:49Speaker 3: haven't taken off in, I don't know, five years.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Wow.
- 26:53Speaker 3: And so we're launching the new website. It's going to
- 26:55Speaker 3: be sidelines.live, and we'll have links to your stuff and
- 26:58Speaker 3: everything on there. It's a Really, really going to be proactive.
- 27:02Speaker 3: And the bottom line is we want people to go there,
- 27:05Speaker 3: follow us, and follow our guests because you're a regular
- 27:07Speaker 3: on the show and we can't do it without you.
- 27:09Speaker 3: It ain't about me. It's about all of us.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Likewise.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Well, let's talk a little SEC football. You know, we
- 27:15Speaker 1: got week zero coming up next week. Well, first off,
- 27:17Speaker 1: let me ask you this. We were talking about the deal,
- 27:20Speaker 1: and I'm sure you saw it today. A Louisiana judge
- 27:23Speaker 1: dropped the hammer and basically gave a TRO, a temporary
- 27:26Speaker 1: restraining order, where some of these guys can come back
- 27:29Speaker 1: to college. Now think about this. They're in NFL camps
- 27:31Speaker 1: right now. And you got three from Ole Miss, one
- 27:34Speaker 1: from LSU. You got several out there. Um, and if
- 27:37Speaker 1: you haven't seen that, let me pull that back up
- 27:40Speaker 1: guys real quick.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Um, let me.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Pull this up on X just so you can see it. Um,
- 27:46Speaker 1: and let me share this just real quick. Sorry about that. Um,
- 27:49Speaker 1: right here. And you can see this on X. Um,
- 27:53Speaker 1: You know, former LSU edge rusher Jack Pyburn and current
- 27:55Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end filed a lawsuit today against
- 27:58Speaker 1: the NCAA seeking a preliminary injunction that would give him
- 28:02Speaker 1: the option to return to college, and there's several guys
- 28:04Speaker 1: on this list. Rob, this is, I don't know what
- 28:07Speaker 1: we're doing now here, less than two weeks away from
- 28:10Speaker 1: week one.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Well, Pyburn was the transfer from Florida who came to LSU.
- 28:14Speaker 3: This is insanity, but it's not unbelievable because I believe
- 28:18Speaker 3: anything can happen now. Nobody's in charge, and Like my kids,
- 28:22Speaker 3: your kids probably tell you the same thing. It's the
- 28:25Speaker 3: adults that are allowing this stuff to happen. And allowing guys,
- 28:30Speaker 3: once you are gone from college, you can't come back.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Charles Bediako case at Alabama was a perfect example of that.
- 28:37Speaker 3: He came back and he was pushed back out. They
- 28:41Speaker 3: got to stop this stuff. Just like Jaden Daniels' ridiculous
- 28:46Speaker 3: claim that his people around him that LSU can't use
- 28:51Speaker 3: that number five jersey. You've got to stop it. And
- 28:55Speaker 3: what the NCAA needs are antitrust laws. They've got to
- 28:59Speaker 3: have them.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:00Speaker 1: No, I agree. All right, let's step into the state
- 29:02Speaker 1: of Mississippi. I want to get your thoughts on, and
- 29:05Speaker 1: we've talked about it, but it's just now we're right here.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Like I said, you can smell it now. Even though
- 29:09Speaker 1: it's hot in the south, football's here. Ole Miss, Trinidad
- 29:13Speaker 1: Chambliss named earlier this week to the athletic as the
- 29:16Speaker 1: number one quarterback in the All-American team. He's now got
- 29:18Speaker 1: two or three or four of those. Kiwan Lacey, also
- 29:21Speaker 1: first-team All-American, another notch in the belt for him. Boy,
- 29:25Speaker 1: it looks like, you know, in talking to Michael Katz
- 29:28Speaker 1: today on my show on ESPN Radio, who covers Ole
- 29:31Speaker 1: Miss for the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, he says, hey,
- 29:34Speaker 1: they're saying this defense may be as good as the
- 29:36Speaker 1: 24 defense. That's a big statement. Are we understaffed?
- 29:40Speaker 3: Ole Miss? I think they are. We've talked about this
- 29:44Speaker 3: for months. My top five, I've got Georgia and Ole
- 29:47Speaker 3: Miss playing in the SEC championship game, Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Texas
- 29:51Speaker 3: A & M and Oklahoma are my other three top
- 29:53Speaker 3: five teams. But people, there's just this myth out there
- 29:57Speaker 3: that Pete Golding wasn't a good coach. You cannot survive
- 30:00Speaker 3: on Nick Saban's staff for five years as a defensive
- 30:04Speaker 3: coordinator unless you're an elite coach. I don't know why people,
- 30:08Speaker 3: they have narratives. They want to take this guy out.
- 30:11Speaker 3: We had a guy on our show a couple of
- 30:12Speaker 3: weeks ago who called Pete Golding a poor man's Dabo Sweeney.
- 30:16Speaker 3: You know, say what you want about Dabo. He's, what,
- 30:19Speaker 3: 137 and 30 since 2014. They've had a few rough years.
- 30:25Speaker 3: They just signed more guys, by the way, in the
- 30:27Speaker 3: portal at Clemson, nine guys. than they did the previous
- 30:29Speaker 3: five years combined. But back to Trinidad Chambliss and Ole Miss,
- 30:32Speaker 3: I got them playing for the championship. We had Greg McElroy, sidelines.live,
- 30:37Speaker 3: my show, as a sponsor, one of them, of the
- 30:39Speaker 3: touchdown club in Memphis. Last Monday, I sponsored Greg McElroy
- 30:43Speaker 3: to come up here, and we were talking. Up on stage,
- 30:46Speaker 3: Harold Grater does a great Q & A format, and
- 30:48Speaker 3: Tony Barnhart, by the way, is coming in Monday. Shameless plug.
- 30:51Speaker 3: But support your quarterback and your touchdown clubs, and by God,
- 30:55Speaker 3: My wife, actually, when I was telling her I was
- 30:57Speaker 3: going to be on your show, she loves you because
- 30:59Speaker 3: what you do for the high school in Middle Mississippi.
- 31:01Speaker 3: I absolutely love it. But you go back, McElroy said,
- 31:06Speaker 3: there are people questioning Byron Brown at Auburn coming from
- 31:10Speaker 3: South Florida. Will that carry over to the SEC? He said,
- 31:12Speaker 3: let me ask you all something. Diego Pavia came from
- 31:16Speaker 3: that football powerhouse, New Mexico State. How did it work
- 31:19Speaker 3: out for him and Vandy? Trinidad Chambliss, now he came
- 31:22Speaker 3: from Division II Ferris State. He was an afterthought, kind
- 31:26Speaker 3: of like buying a second insurance policy. How'd that work out?
- 31:30Speaker 3: He's the best quarterback in the SEC, along with Gunnar Stockton. So, yeah,
- 31:35Speaker 3: they're underselling Ole Miss. There's a narrative that doesn't allow
- 31:39Speaker 3: Ole Miss to fit in. Remember George Carlin's famous rant
- 31:43Speaker 3: about it's a club and we're not in it? That's
- 31:46Speaker 3: how you feel if you're Ole Miss. And I'm a Memphian.
- 31:49Speaker 3: You know, I'm an Auburn grad, but I love Ole Miss.
- 31:51Speaker 3: I got so many Ole Miss and Mississippi State friends.
- 31:53Speaker 3: It's insane. They are going to be there. And the defense,
- 31:58Speaker 3: Hunter Rain Perkins is another one. They've got a lot
- 32:01Speaker 3: of really good players. And Golding, if he can still
- 32:04Speaker 3: keep his hand in there, is going to be a
- 32:06Speaker 3: hell of a coach.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Let's pivot over to Starkville. We've talked to Kamario Taylor
- 32:11Speaker 1: with you before. We've talked to Jeff Levy. If we
- 32:15Speaker 1: got the time machine– Me and you got in the DeLorean,
- 32:17Speaker 1: and we fast-forwarded to August 19, 2020.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Chuck Oliver.
- 32:21Speaker 1: There you go. There you go.
- 32:23Speaker 3: I love it.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Yep.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I love Chuck, too. And, by the way, tell
- 32:27Speaker 1: Tony hello for me when you see him next week.
- 32:28Speaker 2: I will.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I love Tony Barnhart. Tony's great. He's been on for
- 32:31Speaker 1: a long time. August 19, 2027. Are we talking Jeff
- 32:35Speaker 1: Levy at Mississippi State?
- 32:37Speaker 3: Well, they got to learn how to win. They lost
- 32:41Speaker 3: all their close games last year, and now you're going
- 32:44Speaker 3: to have Kamario Taylor– You know, his performance in the
- 32:46Speaker 3: Egg Bowl when he had 173 yards rushing was exceptional.
- 32:51Speaker 3: But they've got Zach Arnett. You know, he's humbled himself.
- 32:54Speaker 3: He's back coaching the defense. They just got to learn
- 32:57Speaker 3: how to win. And I believe that, I mean, they're
- 33:01Speaker 3: 1-15 in his first two years there. But you look
- 33:04Speaker 3: at the games last year, Tennessee, the Texas, the Florida losses.
- 33:09Speaker 3: I got to believe that they're going to figure out
- 33:11Speaker 3: how to win those. And I know I'm biased. I
- 33:14Speaker 3: do like Jeff Levy a lot, and I like Mississippi State.
- 33:17Speaker 3: I've been to 37 games down there over the years.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Love that place. You know, Dan Mullen won there. His
- 33:23Speaker 3: nine years are pretty good. But if they don't win,
- 33:27Speaker 3: if they get off to a slow start looking at
- 33:29Speaker 3: their schedule, Mississippi State, look, you know, ULM at Minnesota,
- 33:35Speaker 3: if they win at Minnesota, then they can win at
- 33:37Speaker 3: South Carolina. They've got to win at least three in September,
- 33:42Speaker 3: or I don't see him coming back.
- 33:44Speaker 1: No, totally agree. I've said that Minnesota week two game
- 33:46Speaker 1: is the season for them. I mean, it really is
- 33:49Speaker 1: in the Big Ten. All right, Alabama, first time AP
- 33:52Speaker 1: comes out this week. I know you've had a chance
- 33:54Speaker 1: to chalk through and look at it. Lowest ranking in
- 33:56Speaker 1: the AP in probably 17 years. I can't remember the
- 33:59Speaker 1: exact number. Betting odds, talking with Robbie Esparza, who was
- 34:02Speaker 1: just on Vegas Insider, lowest odds for Alabama in probably
- 34:06Speaker 1: 17 years, 15 years. But are we undervaluing Alabama?
- 34:12Speaker 3: All right, last time Alabama came into the season ranked
- 34:14Speaker 3: this low was 2008, okay? We know what they did.
- 34:19Speaker 3: They went on the road, got that win over Clemson
- 34:21Speaker 3: at the beginning of the season, I think. So Alabama
- 34:25Speaker 3: last year with the worst running game since 1956. Ears
- 34:28Speaker 3: Whitworth was the coach. He should have been given a
- 34:30Speaker 3: lifetime contract, but he wasn't, and they brought in Coach Bryant.
- 34:33Speaker 3: It was a different story from there on out. I
- 34:36Speaker 3: think that They couldn't run the ball a lick last year, okay?
- 34:41Speaker 3: They still won 11 games. But their problem is not
- 34:44Speaker 3: just on the offensive line. Freddie Roach is not a
- 34:46Speaker 3: great defensive line coach. I've got Alabama, unless the offensive
- 34:50Speaker 3: line is way better, and I don't see it, I
- 34:54Speaker 3: got them winning seven or eight games, and I'm not anti-Alabama.
- 34:58Speaker 3: My oldest daughter graduated from Alabama. She's still a good person.
- 35:01Speaker 3: I'm just telling you, they can't– you know, Ryan Grubb
- 35:06Speaker 3: loses his job at Seattle because they couldn't run the ball.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Comes to Alabama, his first year there, they have the
- 35:11Speaker 3: worst running game since 1956. Now, if a dog will bite,
- 35:16Speaker 3: he'll do it when he's a pup. I don't– you know, E.J. Crowell,
- 35:21Speaker 3: they're counting on a true freshman. The last time a
- 35:23Speaker 3: true freshman– Led the team in rushing was 1985 when
- 35:26Speaker 3: Gene Jelks came there out of Emma Sansom High School
- 35:29Speaker 3: in Gadsden, Alabama, 576 yards and seven touchdowns. They also
- 35:33Speaker 3: had Bobby Humphrey in that backfield too. But I think Alabama,
- 35:38Speaker 3: you know, revenge doesn't win you any games either. They
- 35:41Speaker 3: should beat Florida State. But you're bringing in a new quarterback,
- 35:44Speaker 3: a true freshman. I think that Keetland Russell is going
- 35:47Speaker 3: to get it. So, no, I think they're probably overrated
- 35:50Speaker 3: right now based on they can't run the ball.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Business with Rob Brown with Sidelines. Of course, he's off
- 35:56Speaker 1: this week. I'll have his website next week. And, of course,
- 35:59Speaker 1: his show is fantastic. Make sure to give a follow
- 36:01Speaker 1: on X and check him out on YouTube as well.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Subscribe to their show. They're on in the mornings, by
- 36:05Speaker 1: the way, 8 to 9. Great SEC show, great college
- 36:08Speaker 1: football show. All right, so we've talked Oklahoma before. We've
- 36:12Speaker 1: talked Auburn. Who are we underselling? I mean, like if
- 36:17Speaker 1: you were picking somebody where we're talking in November, second
- 36:20Speaker 1: week in November, we're getting into the third or fourth
- 36:22Speaker 1: week of the, college football playoff poll, or actually it
- 36:24Speaker 1: would be like the second now because they're moving this
- 36:26Speaker 1: thing back. Who could we be talking about?
- 36:30Speaker 3: It's an even year. South Carolina under Shane Beamer, 8-4
- 36:34Speaker 3: in 22, 9 wins in 24. I do think Lenora Sellers,
- 36:40Speaker 3: he hasn't been completely healthy in a while. They've got
- 36:43Speaker 3: a chance to be better. They could surprise me. Also, Florida, Auburn,
- 36:50Speaker 3: Auburn– has forgotten how to win. You had the worst
- 36:54Speaker 3: coach in Auburn history, Brian Harsin, followed by the worst
- 36:56Speaker 3: coach in Auburn history, Hugh Freeze, back to back. That's
- 37:00Speaker 3: hard to overcome. But they forgot how to win. I
- 37:03Speaker 3: love John Summerall. Portability of success. He won at Troy,
- 37:08Speaker 3: played for the championship both years there, won both years
- 37:11Speaker 3: at Tulane, played for the conference championship. I like him.
- 37:14Speaker 3: And I think we're underselling Tennessee. Jim Knowles coming in
- 37:19Speaker 3: at– Can't install a defense that fast, but he will
- 37:24Speaker 3: make their defense markedly better than they were last year.
- 37:28Speaker 3: But they were number four or five in the country
- 37:29Speaker 3: in total offense last year. Rodney Garn is still coaching
- 37:32Speaker 3: that defensive line. So you know they'll have players there.
- 37:36Speaker 3: And arguably top two, three offensive line in the SEC,
- 37:40Speaker 3: which would put them top seven or eight in the country.
- 37:43Speaker 3: And Deshaun Bishop in the backfield. But again, quarterback. But
- 37:47Speaker 3: one thing Josh Heupel can do is he can find
- 37:49Speaker 3: you a quarterback. So Those are some teams. And I
- 37:52Speaker 3: think Missouri might surprise people struggling because like Ole Miss
- 37:56Speaker 3: the last four years, they had the easier schedule. That's
- 37:58Speaker 3: going to flip now. They did win 29 games. But Missouri,
- 38:02Speaker 3: unlike Ole Miss, which beat a lot of signature teams,
- 38:06Speaker 3: Missouri hadn't beat a good team the last three years,
- 38:08Speaker 3: even though they won 29 games.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Can Texas A & M make that next step? Boy,
- 38:13Speaker 1: they've been closed the last two years.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I think– and talking to Pete Cordelli and Ellis
- 38:18Speaker 3: Johnson and a lot of smart coaches we have on
- 38:20Speaker 3: the show, I like Mike Elko. I think he's a
- 38:23Speaker 3: really smart coach. I think when he started working first
- 38:26Speaker 3: at A & M in 2018, I think I heard
- 38:29Speaker 3: a stat. They've had more defensive linemen from A &
- 38:31Speaker 3: M go to the NFL since 2018 than any SEC school.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Oddly enough, Alabama the last few years hadn't had any.
- 38:39Speaker 3: You know, they had them regularly– going every year, even
- 38:43Speaker 3: guys that only started nine or ten games, like Quentin Williams,
- 38:46Speaker 3: who went number three, yet were part of a great system.
- 38:49Speaker 3: You watch Ole Miss. You think Pete Golding didn't learn
- 38:53Speaker 3: anything in the five years he was there? You're crazy
- 38:56Speaker 3: with Nick Saban. And, Nick, again, you don't survive five
- 38:58Speaker 3: years with that guy if you're not good.
- 39:01Speaker 1: No, you're right. Absolutely right. Vanderbilt, they take a step
- 39:04Speaker 1: back this year.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Well, Jared Curtis, he's got to be the highest rated
- 39:09Speaker 3: recruit in that school's history at a Nashville Christian. He
- 39:12Speaker 3: was committed to Georgia for 18 months. Because Beck is there,
- 39:18Speaker 3: Jerry Kill's there, Clark Lee, he's got those guys. One
- 39:23Speaker 3: thing he said in 24 in Dallas before the season,
- 39:28Speaker 3: this was the first year of Diego Pavi, He said,
- 39:30Speaker 3: you know, I actually rode on the elevator with him
- 39:33Speaker 3: and his wife, and he was sweating just like you
- 39:36Speaker 3: and I are right now. It is so hot. I'm
- 39:40Speaker 3: in a 7,000-square-foot house, and it is so hot. And,
- 39:45Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like I'm in a jungle. But
- 39:47Speaker 3: he said something that most people didn't even pay attention to.
- 39:50Speaker 3: But he said, you know, for the first time since
- 39:52Speaker 3: I've been here at Vanderbilt, we have every guy on
- 39:56Speaker 3: this football team in this building signed up for our vision,
- 40:00Speaker 3: our manifestation of Vanderbilt football. And as Chuck Oliver would say,
- 40:04Speaker 3: that's not nothing. It's a big deal. So you brought
- 40:07Speaker 3: that culture of Jerry Kill. You know, Jerry Kill is
- 40:09Speaker 3: a coach at Minnesota, New Mexico State, everywhere. He's won
- 40:13Speaker 3: 176 games. And he's been at some places it's not
- 40:16Speaker 3: easy to win. I think Vanderbilt's got a culture now.
- 40:19Speaker 3: I think at a minimum they win six or seven. So, yeah,
- 40:23Speaker 3: that's a step back from ten. But after the 23 season,
- 40:27Speaker 3: Clark Lee told us at the Touchdown Club last year,
- 40:30Speaker 3: I told the athletic director, Candice Lee, if you're not
- 40:32Speaker 3: going to fund it, we just drop the program because
- 40:35Speaker 3: we can't compete on this level.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Rob, before we let you go, and I appreciate you
- 40:39Speaker 1: joining us tonight, let me ask you a quick question
- 40:40Speaker 1: about high school football. Just at a broad spectrum in
- 40:43Speaker 1: the state of Tennessee. I know you're right there in
- 40:44Speaker 1: the Memphis area. we know there's some really good high
- 40:47Speaker 1: school football right there. Talk about how that might compare
- 40:51Speaker 1: in that state to Mississippi. You know how big it
- 40:53Speaker 1: is down here as we get ready to kick it
- 40:55Speaker 1: off kind of week zero this week with the private
- 40:57Speaker 1: schools next week, we'll have our week one with everybody playing,
- 41:00Speaker 1: but just that excitement and what it's like in the
- 41:02Speaker 1: state of Tennessee.
- 41:04Speaker 3: I think in West Tennessee, you know, Memphis, my high school,
- 41:06Speaker 3: Christian brothers high school, the largest all boys school in
- 41:09Speaker 3: the state hadn't won a state championship in almost 50 years.
- 41:13Speaker 3: They played for a bunch of them. MUS on the
- 41:15Speaker 3: other hand, a really good program. They dropped spring practice
- 41:20Speaker 3: in 2001, and since then they've won four state titles
- 41:22Speaker 3: and been runner-up four times in the spring. They just
- 41:25Speaker 3: make the football players play lacrosse or do track and
- 41:28Speaker 3: field or do both. Other than that, you've got to
- 41:31Speaker 3: look at the mid-state, man. It's ridiculous. The Nashville teams, Ensworth, NBA,
- 41:37Speaker 3: Father Ryan, outstanding. And then it's another level. Macaulay and
- 41:43Speaker 3: Baylor and Chattanooga, they're bringing in guys. NBC, my friend,
- 41:47Speaker 3: no birth certificate. I honestly don't think, I know friends
- 41:51Speaker 3: of mine whose kids play them and they're going, you
- 41:54Speaker 3: remember the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High when Jefferson,
- 41:57Speaker 3: the big football stud, the guy saw him one night
- 42:00Speaker 3: out and he goes, hey, I didn't know he went
- 42:01Speaker 3: to school here. I thought he just flew in on
- 42:03Speaker 3: the weekends for the games. That's what you got in Tennessee.
- 42:08Speaker 3: You look at Mississippi, high school football in that state,
- 42:12Speaker 3: per capita, they put more players in the NFL than
- 42:14Speaker 3: any state in America. because it does matter. When I
- 42:17Speaker 3: drive down to Orange Beach on 45, I call it
- 42:20Speaker 3: the land that time forgot. It's the old way to Destin.
- 42:22Speaker 3: Every one of those towns, Scuba, you know, you go
- 42:25Speaker 3: through Macon, you go through all these places like, you know, Waynesboro.
- 42:31Speaker 3: It's so big in the Delta, in the Mid-State. Then
- 42:35Speaker 3: you got places like Moss Point. Mississippi's 2 million, well,
- 42:40Speaker 3: probably 4.5 million fewer people, but The all-star team from Mississippi,
- 42:45Speaker 3: I hate to say it, would curb stomp the all-star
- 42:50Speaker 3: team from Tennessee. They're just better athletes, and I think
- 42:55Speaker 3: there's so many more small towns in Mississippi with paper mills,
- 43:00Speaker 3: and you put those two together, that's a one plus
- 43:02Speaker 3: one equals three. I love high school football, and I
- 43:05Speaker 3: love being on your show. You make me just love
- 43:07Speaker 3: football even more, and all sports, by the way.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Absolutely. Rob, before we let you go and let you
- 43:12Speaker 1: take a break for the night and get ready to
- 43:14Speaker 1: do another one tomorrow, tell everybody about your new website,
- 43:17Speaker 1: where they can find you. We want them to follow
- 43:19Speaker 1: it and check you guys out for football.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Yeah, we do it year-round. It hasn't taken off in
- 43:24Speaker 3: a while, but it's sidelines, S-I-D-E-L-I-N-E-S dot live. I've had
- 43:31Speaker 3: that name since 87, so it's like 41 years or something,
- 43:36Speaker 3: but that's my domain that I own. We are heavy
- 43:39Speaker 3: on the SEC, but I was thinking about this. There's
- 43:42Speaker 3: a lot of compelling stories in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Troy, Alabama.
- 43:46Speaker 3: You know, you've got stories all over at USA and Mobile, Tulane,
- 43:52Speaker 3: in addition to the SEC, and Memphis and Arkansas State. So, yeah,
- 43:56Speaker 3: I like to say this. We cover college football, basketball,
- 43:59Speaker 3: and baseball in the south like kudzu and cotton. We
- 44:02Speaker 3: love our audience, and we focus really on three things,
- 44:05Speaker 3: the history, the traditions, and the heroes. We stay out
- 44:07Speaker 3: of politics. We stay in production, and we absolutely love
- 44:12Speaker 3: our audience. I don't care what team you're a fan of.
- 44:15Speaker 3: You're all welcome here. And, by the way, you're watching
- 44:18Speaker 3: Jake right now. That's show three to six in the afternoon.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Put the app on your phone. You can watch ESPN
- 44:24Speaker 3: if you want to, but I would listen to Jake.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Rob, you're a gentleman and a scholar. Look, I hope
- 44:29Speaker 1: you have a great Wednesday night, and we will do
- 44:30Speaker 1: it again soon, sir.
- 44:31Speaker 2: All right.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Thank you so much. You do as well. We'll see
- 44:33Speaker 3: you next week on the show.
- 44:34Speaker 2: You got it.
- 44:35Speaker 3: See you then.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Rob Brown on the show with us tonight as we
- 44:38Speaker 1: get ready to close it. Make sure to follow me

- 44:44Speaker 1: check us out on Facebook. My Facebook's wide open at

- 45:01Speaker 1: kinds of stuff. That's mybookie.ag. Use the promo code PATTIO.
- 45:05Speaker 1: We're going to sign off for tonight. I hope you
- 45:06Speaker 1: have a great Wednesday night. Try to stay cool. It's
- 45:08Speaker 1: hot out there. Football's almost here. See you next time.
