It is very interesting to find this gospel text reminding us about how to recognize the Lord. It is by the sign Jesus left us. Part of this sign is the breaking of the bread. It was that action Jesus followed when he instituted the holy Eucharist during the Last Supper. That phrase, "the breaking of the bread" became so characteristic of how Our Lord wanted to be referred to. The equivalence was so made that such phrase became known to be the same as saying Holy Mass. It referred to the Holy Eucharist in itself.
