- 1:25Speaker 1: Uh, there we go, we got it. We're here. It's Monday.
- 1:32Speaker 2: This portion of the program brought to you by Central
- 1:34Speaker 2: Texas Sports Medicine. We think we've slapped together a pretty
- 1:38Speaker 2: decent Monday show for you.
- 1:39Speaker 1: We're going to do some.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Post game College World Series baseball. I'm also in this
- 1:49Speaker 2: hour going to talk to Anthony Morris. His movie Pressure
- 1:58Speaker 2: debuted this weekend. D Day weekend. They allowed me to
- 2:04Speaker 2: go see that movie on Saturday. It is terrific. I
- 2:09Speaker 2: did not know about the events surrounding the movie. I
- 2:16Speaker 2: did know about D Day, but not what this movie does.
- 2:21Speaker 2: And we're going to talk about that with Anthony Morris,
- 2:24Speaker 2: the director. He also did the screenplay with him, with
- 2:29Speaker 2: the help of the man who wrote the play to
- 2:34Speaker 2: begin with. So we're going to talk about that. We've
- 2:37Speaker 2: got the writers round table and as far as I
- 2:43Speaker 2: know and it's my show. This is Robert Cessna's final
- 2:49Speaker 2: roundtable until August when we start talking about football again.
- 2:56Speaker 1: So that's what's ahead.
- 2:58Speaker 2: We have got other guests lined up and we will
- 3:03Speaker 2: talk about that as well. The story today is Texas
- 3:07Speaker 2: Tech quarterback Brendan Soorsby being granted a temporary injunction by
- 3:14Speaker 2: a friendly court in Lubbock, which would allow him to
- 3:19Speaker 2: play college football.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Judge Ken Surrey.
- 3:25Speaker 2: According to the adjunction, Sworsby will be suspended the first
- 3:30Speaker 2: two games against Abilene Christian Or is somebody from T
- 3:37Speaker 2: mobile called it when my internet was out all weekend?
- 3:41Speaker 1: A bee line.
- 3:44Speaker 2: That we see that there's an average an outage in
- 3:48Speaker 2: a bee line? Is that close to you, I said, Abilene.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Uh yeah, that's a long way from me. Okay, no wonder,
- 3:59Speaker 2: I didn't get mine.
- 4:00Speaker 1: That fixed for four days. Anyway, That's neither here nor there.
- 4:05Speaker 2: According to the judge, this Court finds that applicant has
- 4:08Speaker 2: demonstrated he will suffer a probable, imminent and irreparable injury
- 4:15Speaker 2: if this Court does not issue this temporary injunction because
- 4:19Speaker 2: he will be unable to participate as a member of Texas.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Texas Play.
- 4:23Speaker 9: Yes, he's unable to participate because he gambled like on
- 4:29Speaker 9: five thousand different events, including his own team at North
- 4:34Speaker 9: Carolina State.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yes, Cody Campbell, who runs everything at Texas Tech, issued
- 4:41Speaker 2: a statement. There's been lots of statements issued today. Quote
- 4:46Speaker 2: this unfortunate situation is the outcome of a broken system.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I'm doing everything I can to fix it, Cody. When
- 4:58Speaker 2: there's gambling involved, please don't use the word fix. But
- 5:02Speaker 2: until there is a permanent solution, Texas Tech and his
- 5:06Speaker 2: student athletes have to do the best they can to
- 5:09Speaker 2: navigate and compete amid the chaos that exists in the
- 5:12Speaker 2: reality the world we live in that has nothing to
- 5:16Speaker 2: do with gambling.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Meanwhile, proper outrage from people in college football. Russ Dellinger
- 5:26Speaker 2: reporting Big Twelve athletic directors have had serious talks about
- 5:30Speaker 2: not playing Texas Tech in any sport this year. Kansas
- 5:36Speaker 2: State ad Gene tell Taylor telling y'all who's sports. We've
- 5:41Speaker 2: had some serious conversation about it. There's still a lot
- 5:44Speaker 2: to be discussed. This is greater than the Big Twelve
- 5:52Speaker 2: still quoting now, it's bleeping bull bleep. I know the
- 5:57Speaker 2: kid has a problem. Well, get well and focus on
- 6:00Speaker 2: your problem. It's absolutely devastating for him to be able
- 6:05Speaker 2: to play when every other sport, no matter the level,
- 6:09Speaker 2: teams an athlete ineligible or punished severely for betting on
- 6:15Speaker 2: their team. But hey, this is college. There's no rules.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It's the Wild West. Greg Sanki doesn't want rules. Tony
- 6:26Speaker 2: Pettiti doesn't want rules. Only if they can continue to
- 6:34Speaker 2: get more money than every other athletic department in the world,
- 6:42Speaker 2: then they'll agree to a few rules. But let's not
- 6:49Speaker 2: confuse the situation. The two people controlling college sports do
- 6:54Speaker 2: not want rules.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Because they're afraid they're power.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Will be limited college baseball on the field Friday Troy,
- 7:10Speaker 2: West Virginia, followed by Ole Miss and North Carolina. That's
- 7:15Speaker 2: the first day at the College World Series. Second day Oklahoma, Alabama,
- 7:24Speaker 2: followed by Texas and Georgia.
- 7:29Speaker 1: All games will.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Be on eesp n from Omaha. A third baseman, Nico Partita,
- 7:40Speaker 2: has been named Freshman All American First Team as voted
- 7:43Speaker 2: by the National College Baseball Writers Association. Partita hit three
- 7:50Speaker 2: six forty three RBI, forty five runs scored, had twelve
- 7:54Speaker 2: home runs, eight doubles, stove four bases, and sold popcorn
- 8:00Speaker 2: horn at During the break, Texas Rangers won a series
- 8:07Speaker 2: at home against Cleveland ten to nothing yesterday, four home runs,
- 8:10Speaker 2: Jacob deGrom, six shutout innings.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So we got that going on for us, which is nice.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Meanwhile, Astros smoked by the Athletics five to nothing the final.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Mike Burrows gets the loss and.
- 8:32Speaker 2: The Astros at thirty and thirty seven, two and a
- 8:41Speaker 2: half games behind Oakland and four and a half I
- 8:47Speaker 2: think behind Seattle the leader. I think that's right. The
- 8:51Speaker 2: Rangers a game and a half out and would have
- 8:54Speaker 2: a playoff spot if the season ended today, but it doesn't.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Over the weekend it was an now see Haggie basketball
- 9:01Speaker 2: team is going to play Stanford in this year's ACC
- 9:05Speaker 2: SEC Challenge. I'm sorry Stanford's not the ACC I know,
- 9:13Speaker 2: I know they are, but they shouldn't be. That's again
- 9:17Speaker 2: College sports, U A and M Stanford December second. The
- 9:24Speaker 2: time and whoever televises it will be announced at a
- 9:29Speaker 2: later time. Dick Vitel, on his Twitter account today said
- 9:35Speaker 2: his on colleges confirmed the diagnosis of melanoma in my
- 9:40Speaker 2: lung and liver cavity. I'll be starting immunotherapy shortly. I
- 9:46Speaker 2: plan on beating this battle. I've beaten melanoma, I've beaten lymphoma,
- 9:53Speaker 2: I've beaten lymph node cancer. I'm four for four. I'm
- 9:57Speaker 2: fully confident I will be f for five. Dick vitel
- 10:02Speaker 2: is eighty six.
- 10:04Speaker 1: JT.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Postin won the Jack Nicholas Memorial yesterday, but the real
- 10:10Speaker 2: winner we the American people. Poston got four million dollars. However,
- 10:20Speaker 2: thirty seven percent of that will go to taxes, meaning
- 10:25Speaker 2: he'llo the federal government almost a million and a half
- 10:28Speaker 2: of that four million dollars, plus Medicare taxes other federal obligations.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Because it was played in Ohio, he could be subject
- 10:39Speaker 2: to state income taxes, which would add one hundred and
- 10:44Speaker 2: ten thousand dollars to his tax bill. Again, he made
- 10:50Speaker 2: four million. I know you don't care. You're saying, well,
- 10:54Speaker 2: he still gets two and a half million. I mean, yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 2: we'd all take it to and a half million dollar
- 11:00Speaker 2: pay day.
- 11:01Speaker 1: But if you had a two and a half million.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Dollar payday, would you want seven hundred and fifty thousand
- 11:07Speaker 2: taken out of that?
- 11:10Speaker 1: No, you would not.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Roger Fetter is going to play an exhibition around the
- 11:15Speaker 2: US opened this year days before being enshrined into the
- 11:20Speaker 2: Hall of Fame and erotic John McEnroe, Andre Agassy will
- 11:26Speaker 2: all be playing as part of.
- 11:29Speaker 1: That Tanner Brown. Maybe you should learn this name.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Hey all, you people who have a fantasy team, I'm
- 11:41Speaker 2: just telling you write Tanner Brown down.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Why am I saying this?
- 11:46Speaker 2: He kicked two sixty yard field goals in the UFL
- 11:50Speaker 2: this weekend. Yesterday, the playoff game during the Louisville Kings
- 11:56Speaker 2: against the Saint Louis BattleHawks, got Battlehawk's name two sixty
- 12:05Speaker 2: yard field goals. Brandon Aubrey the Cowboys holds the NFL
- 12:10Speaker 2: record for most field goals in a career over sixty
- 12:13Speaker 2: yards with six, but he ain't never had two in
- 12:16Speaker 2: a game. And in the UFL, if you kick it
- 12:20Speaker 2: more than sixty yards it's worth four points. So he
- 12:24Speaker 2: got eight points for his team yesterday. Remember Tanner Brown.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Don't say I didn't warn you. Okay, Tomorrow on the
- 12:36Speaker 2: show we have Tim Brown. His book is called Nolan,
- 12:43Speaker 2: The Singular Life of an American Original And on Wednesday,
- 12:54Speaker 2: Wait a minute, I'll get to it. I know it's
- 12:58Speaker 2: here somewhere. Elizabeth Pryor. Her father was Richard Pryor. Her
- 13:06Speaker 2: book is called something We Said Richard Pryor a notorious
- 13:13Speaker 2: word and me. Elizabeth Pryor will join us on the
- 13:19Speaker 2: show Wednesday to talk about her famous father.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Later in this hour, Anthony Marris is going to join
- 13:31Speaker 2: us and talk about his book Pressure, The Untold Story
- 13:36Speaker 2: of d Day. Saw the movie Saturday, Well worth it. Okay,
- 13:42Speaker 2: we'll take a break, we'll come back. We're going to
- 13:44Speaker 2: talk a little College World series after this.
- 13:46Speaker 1: For Anco Insurance.
- 13:49Speaker 10: Inco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 13:53Speaker 10: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While

- 14:15Speaker 10: co Insurance a Hub International company. So you're ready for tomorrow.
- 14:19Speaker 11: When some loud rag.
- 14:21Speaker 9: You're trying to put me down and says this school is.
- 14:27Speaker 12: I don't right away?
- 14:28Speaker 1: Now, what's the matter, buddy?
- 14:30Speaker 12: Ain't you heard of my school? It is number one
- 14:33Speaker 12: in the States.
- 14:35Speaker 10: Hey, Hey, b I School.
- 14:47Speaker 2: There's just something about the Beach Boys and summertime that
- 14:52Speaker 2: just goes so well together.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Uh, welcome back.
- 14:57Speaker 2: We've got the writers round table coming you way in
- 15:00Speaker 2: the second hour of the program. We told you we're
- 15:06Speaker 2: going to talk a little College World Series baseball. The
- 15:10Speaker 2: team that eliminated the Aggies, the USC Trojans, were oh
- 15:17Speaker 2: so close to going to Omaha yesterday. They had a
- 15:22Speaker 2: lead in the eighth inning. Andrew Johnson, who was nails
- 15:28Speaker 2: against the Aggies here last weekend at Olson, was nails
- 15:34Speaker 2: yesterday against North Carolina.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It was three to one. Things were looking good and
- 15:41Speaker 1: then they weren't.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Carolina scored a run in the eighth and walked it
- 15:47Speaker 2: off in the night. So we are going to hear
- 15:54Speaker 2: from USC coach Andy Stankwitz and pitcher Andrew Johnson.
- 16:02Speaker 12: Was it a tough one?
- 16:04Speaker 13: Don't know really what to say in moments like this.
- 16:10Speaker 13: Proud of our voice. I'm disappointed in the and the results,
- 16:14Speaker 13: but I'm they're.
- 16:15Speaker 12: Disappointed in our guys.
- 16:18Speaker 13: They did something pretty special this year, and that this
- 16:21Speaker 13: young man did in the postseason is phenomenal.
- 16:25Speaker 7: Miss great.
- 16:25Speaker 13: It's toughness, skill, attitude. Everything you dream about coaching is
- 16:31Speaker 13: what this young man did. And I'm uh certainly very
- 16:34Speaker 13: proud of him. But uh, hats off to coach Forbes
- 16:40Speaker 13: and his staff and his players, his team. They're there's
- 16:44Speaker 13: there as good as anybody. They're really really good at
- 16:46Speaker 13: what they do. They're just uh, they're just consistent all
- 16:49Speaker 13: the way around. And yeah, so you just gotta.
- 16:56Speaker 12: As best we can gonna move forward.
- 16:57Speaker 13: And but again I get some disappointing young men over
- 17:02Speaker 13: there and our dug out, and as this head coach,
- 17:04Speaker 13: I think, dang.
- 17:05Speaker 12: It, what could I have done differently?
- 17:06Speaker 13: What should I have done differently to help change the outcome?
- 17:11Speaker 13: Oh so I'll have to figure that out, and I will. Well,
- 17:17Speaker 13: we're gonna continue to work, We're gonna we're gonna continue
- 17:20Speaker 13: to get better. But uh, certainly I can't tell my
- 17:25Speaker 13: team and uh, my administration or parents, everybody that support
- 17:31Speaker 13: us through this run. How I'm proud I am of
- 17:34Speaker 13: of of wearing this, wearing this when this youth worn questions.
- 17:38Speaker 14: For coach and Andrew Stovere Allen Andrew obviously tremendous season
- 17:42Speaker 14: personally and for this program, Just how do you compromentalize
- 17:44Speaker 14: everything that happened this year, just the obviously disappoint or
- 17:48Speaker 14: what happened today?
- 17:48Speaker 7: And how that do do?
- 17:51Speaker 12: I mean, you know the gold Fland beginning seasons on alright.
- 17:53Speaker 15: So it's we're definitely not you know, just happy we
- 17:56Speaker 15: made the supers and in the past regional, but for
- 17:59Speaker 15: sure is a great season to be proud of what
- 18:01Speaker 15: we accomplished you as a group, I mean, this group
- 18:03Speaker 15: of guys. Ever been closer to a to a group
- 18:05Speaker 15: of thirty nine others as these boys, and I mean
- 18:08Speaker 15: it's just really cool.
- 18:08Speaker 12: Even when you lose, you're close to these guys.
- 18:10Speaker 15: So obviously we're disappointing, you know, upset, but I mean,
- 18:15Speaker 15: no one's gonna.
- 18:16Speaker 12: Take it out on each other.
- 18:17Speaker 15: It's all it's all love within the clubhouse, and we're
- 18:18Speaker 15: just just proud of everyone else, proud of each other,
- 18:21Speaker 15: you know, fall all the way to the end. Nothing
- 18:23Speaker 15: really hang our heads out.
- 18:24Speaker 16: So again, just a couple of questions we probably mentioned
- 18:29Speaker 16: things you could in differently.
- 18:30Speaker 7: A was was Edward's available all to day out of
- 18:32Speaker 7: the bulletmen?
- 18:33Speaker 12: And what made you try to go with the rich?
- 18:35Speaker 12: You change and made it that there in the bottom of.
- 18:36Speaker 13: The night, Uh, no, Ed Edwards was was not available,
- 18:41Speaker 13: and just Adam just wasn't controlling the fastball and just
- 18:44Speaker 13: felt like.
- 18:46Speaker 12: Could run and chase me, would throw.
- 18:48Speaker 13: Strikes and guys out there playing defense behind you, and
- 18:52Speaker 13: we just felt like that was the best thing to
- 18:54Speaker 13: do at that moment. You know, hindsight who knows, right,
- 18:58Speaker 13: But I'm I feel good about that the decision. We
- 19:02Speaker 13: just needed to someone to come in and throw strikes.
- 19:04Speaker 13: Me feel like at was command the battle.
- 19:05Speaker 8: Well, yeah, right, Andrew, you had a hundred and seventy
- 19:09Speaker 8: pitches in the postseason going into this game and then
- 19:11Speaker 8: obviously came out today and just had a really great performance.
- 19:14Speaker 17: Obviously a disappointing overall result, but how proud are you
- 19:16Speaker 17: in your ability to kind of keep fighting and keep
- 19:19Speaker 17: gritting it out.
- 19:20Speaker 12: I gotta give all glory to God.
- 19:21Speaker 15: First of all, I wouldn't be able to be here
- 19:23Speaker 15: or be in a position to compete and fight without him.
- 19:25Speaker 15: So first of all, all glory to him, And just secondology,
- 19:28Speaker 15: just trusting coaches, FROSTSS staff and all the things already
- 19:31Speaker 15: talk all the things that averready talks about, right, just
- 19:33Speaker 15: staying consistent, you know, the work, and just putting putting
- 19:36Speaker 15: the front foot forward. So obviously super proud of myself,
- 19:39Speaker 15: but just more proud of the guys and.
- 19:40Speaker 12: And the team and that as a group, so grace.
- 19:43Speaker 14: It was just how.
- 19:43Speaker 12: Crucial was Andrew's performance. This is how your post. He's
- 19:46Speaker 12: a solid in college station and then here in childho
- 19:48Speaker 12: No it shoot, we don't.
- 19:49Speaker 13: We don't get here without the performance that he did
- 19:52Speaker 13: in the in the regional and obviously here.
- 19:54Speaker 7: So yeah, it's just a it's.
- 19:56Speaker 13: A it's a make up, you know, it's just a
- 19:58Speaker 13: it's a fighter's attitude.
- 20:00Speaker 5: You know.
- 20:01Speaker 13: He can't tell you he he feels great. He's pitched
- 20:03Speaker 13: a lot, but it didn't matter to him. He just
- 20:05Speaker 13: whatever it took. That game was over yesterday, he told
- 20:08Speaker 13: coach Allen Coach, I I went to baseball, and that
- 20:12Speaker 13: gives me confidence, like the right guy's taking the baseball,
- 20:14Speaker 13: and the right guy was did it today for us.
- 20:17Speaker 12: We just couldn't. We just couldn't close it out.
- 20:19Speaker 7: Okay, and he you're.
- 20:22Speaker 12: Taking steps every year.
- 20:23Speaker 15: How difficult is it to be so close to being
- 20:25Speaker 15: able to skip a step from being moment away.
- 20:28Speaker 12: Doing all more stuff?
- 20:29Speaker 13: Yeah, no, no, no, no question about it. But we're
- 20:32Speaker 13: we're we're building this thing.
- 20:33Speaker 12: For the long haul. That's that's been designed since we
- 20:36Speaker 12: got here.
- 20:36Speaker 13: We got to the finals of a regional last year,
- 20:38Speaker 13: now the finals of a super regional, and so we
- 20:40Speaker 13: feel like the program is is moving well, it's strong,
- 20:43Speaker 13: it's healthy, got great young men, skilled young athletes that
- 20:46Speaker 13: wanna be Trojans to take pride and wearing this uniform.
- 20:49Speaker 12: And so we're we're not we're not going away.
- 20:51Speaker 13: Well, We're we're gonna continue to work and in our
- 20:53Speaker 13: our goal moving forward, we'll obviously get get this program
- 20:56Speaker 13: back to the mall.
- 20:57Speaker 14: Yeah, kind of going off that just big picture from
- 21:00Speaker 14: a thirty thousand foot perspective. I know it's hard to
- 21:02Speaker 14: zoom out right after a game, but where did you
- 21:04Speaker 14: evaluate you with some baseballs and.
- 21:06Speaker 12: Programs where it is post twenty twenty six.
- 21:09Speaker 13: Well, it feels good, it's strong, it's uh, it's healthy.
- 21:11Speaker 13: We've got the right people, got the right people on
- 21:13Speaker 13: the train that are moving it well. And you know,
- 21:16Speaker 13: this is uh, it hurts. This is a is a
- 21:19Speaker 13: tough way to end the season. But we're we're our
- 21:22Speaker 13: coach access working hard, We're proud of what we've accomplished
- 21:25Speaker 13: and what we're doing. And you know, it's a it's
- 21:29Speaker 13: a it's a it's a step, right, It's just things
- 21:31Speaker 13: take take a moment, and sometimes we want things to
- 21:34Speaker 13: happen overnight, as is UH as humans, I guess, right,
- 21:39Speaker 13: but sometimes it takes a moment. And so we've been
- 21:42Speaker 13: at this thing for for a while now and we
- 21:44Speaker 13: feel like we're certainly building it, and I think folks
- 21:47Speaker 13: are taking notice. And now we just can't go backwards.
- 21:50Speaker 12: We've got to this.
- 21:51Speaker 13: This thing's got to continue to move forward, and no will.
- 21:54Speaker 2: That's uh, the USC baseball coach Andy Stack.
- 22:00Speaker 1: It's also Andrew Johnson the pitcher. Again.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I think Aggie fans saw enough of Andrew Johnson last
- 22:07Speaker 2: weekend and he was really good yesterday ran out of
- 22:12Speaker 2: gas a little bit, but I think it was like
- 22:16Speaker 2: seven and a third innings of no run baseball there
- 22:20Speaker 2: for a while.
- 22:21Speaker 1: He was really good.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Now, so there's five SEC teams of the eight. If
- 22:31Speaker 2: it would have been seated differently, Mississippi State probably would
- 22:34Speaker 2: have made six of eight or they would have knocked
- 22:37Speaker 2: out another SEC team because they were really good.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Georgia, who has not been to.
- 22:48Speaker 2: The World Series and now don't hold me to this,
- 22:52Speaker 2: but I think it's like three thousand and thirty years
- 22:56Speaker 2: that Georgia has not been part of the College World Series.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Been a while, but they are going.
- 23:04Speaker 2: They take on Texas in first round game Saturday evening,
- 23:12Speaker 2: the number three seed versus the number six seed. So
- 23:19Speaker 2: the Bulldogs were winners this weekend. Let's hear from the
- 23:30Speaker 2: catcher David Jackson. He's probably going to be the Player
- 23:35Speaker 2: of the Year Golden Spikes winner should be Wes Johnson.
- 23:41Speaker 2: The coach Colby Branch. I don't know Kobe Branch got
- 23:45Speaker 2: the game winner. I don't know if he's in.
- 23:47Speaker 1: This clip or not. But let's start with the head
- 23:50Speaker 1: coach at Georgia, Wes Johnson.
- 23:54Speaker 18: Yeah, I mean resiliency. We talk a lot about toughness.
- 23:58Speaker 18: I tell our guys all the time, Like I think
- 24:00Speaker 18: this gets a bad rap. People think it's some kind
- 24:02Speaker 18: of physical, physical element and it's not. It's it's just
- 24:07Speaker 18: you have to learn to be capable of great endurance
- 24:10Speaker 18: and understand that our game is really long.
- 24:14Speaker 1: It's they got to get you out.
- 24:17Speaker 18: Teams are going to get emotional, that those emotions are
- 24:21Speaker 18: going to carry you out of what you normally do.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Every day.
- 24:26Speaker 18: And yeah, so with that, I mean that's what we
- 24:30Speaker 18: talk a lot about. We not only do we talk.
- 24:31Speaker 1: About, we practice it.
- 24:32Speaker 6: We we we try to try.
- 24:35Speaker 18: To give our guys something hard to do every single day,
- 24:37Speaker 18: whether it be physical ormental. And you just saw a
- 24:40Speaker 18: bunch of resilient guys and you saw the fruition of
- 24:42Speaker 18: all that work come through.
- 24:45Speaker 7: Olivia.
- 24:46Speaker 18: Well, I saw you share moment away from the field
- 24:49Speaker 18: of what to mean to get this program too along
- 24:51Speaker 18: their three A lot obviously, I mean people don't understand
- 24:54Speaker 18: the sacrifices you make to do that. You know, the
- 24:58Speaker 18: birthdays you missed, anniversaries, yeah, a lot.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Well, I saw you sharrem a k after the game.
- 25:07Speaker 12: There is Daniel what is.
- 25:11Speaker 18: Yeah, I just told Daniel. I mean he's the best
- 25:13Speaker 18: player in the country. He's he'll be one of the
- 25:14Speaker 18: best I've ever coached. I mean, you look at him today,
- 25:17Speaker 18: he got his twenty six bag, hit his thirty first.
- 25:19Speaker 12: Did you go to the thirty first.
- 25:22Speaker 1: He hit his thirty first today?
- 25:25Speaker 12: Uh?
- 25:27Speaker 18: Yeah, I mean you just look at me. The job
- 25:29Speaker 18: he did today handling the pitching staff when when we
- 25:32Speaker 18: weren't executing pitches, you know, and emotions were high today
- 25:35Speaker 18: they should be right. I mean, you know, there's something
- 25:37Speaker 18: on the line here, and and we had some guys.
- 25:40Speaker 18: I mean I thought k Naoki was outstanding. Maybe one
- 25:43Speaker 18: bad pitch you know right there that the guy hit
- 25:45Speaker 18: out the curveball, kind of left it up. We were
- 25:47Speaker 18: obviously trying to go down. You look at that, ye
- 25:50Speaker 18: did I leave him in probably a bat or too long.
- 25:52Speaker 18: But that's our guy, man. I mean that that. You know,
- 25:56Speaker 18: that guy's there's a reason we call him Doc. And
- 26:00Speaker 18: I'm not gonna get him right down. I'm gonna make
- 26:03Speaker 18: him tell me I gotta get him. And unfortunately, you know,
- 26:05Speaker 18: he gave up one more but that that's fine. But yeah,
- 26:09Speaker 18: Daniel handled the picture staff outstanding. It was phenomenal.
- 26:14Speaker 19: Yeah, Coach Johnson means lots to you. I mean the
- 26:17Speaker 19: last two years has been you know, crazy ride for me.
- 26:19Speaker 19: And you know, just as much as of a coach
- 26:24Speaker 19: he is for me, you know, as a player. You
- 26:25Speaker 19: know he sometimes you know, a life coach too, and
- 26:29Speaker 19: has done a lot for me, teach me a lot.
- 26:30Speaker 12: About you know, you know, honestly, you know a lot
- 26:32Speaker 12: about the mental game.
- 26:33Speaker 19: You know, that was something I that's probably where I
- 26:35Speaker 19: needed to improve the most.
- 26:36Speaker 11: And you know, we.
- 26:38Speaker 19: Talked about belief a lot, and you know, when you
- 26:40Speaker 19: can go into the box and you know, believe himself
- 26:43Speaker 19: and you tell yourself you're the best, you know, great
- 26:44Speaker 19: things happen. And so a lot of my successes come
- 26:47Speaker 19: from that. And say, you know, I can thanks Chuch
- 26:49Speaker 19: for that.
- 26:50Speaker 12: I think jet I think it's funny. But you guys
- 26:52Speaker 12: back in back, Yeah, Daniel Ius, just one take it through.
- 26:55Speaker 7: That at that where you get that where until we
- 26:57Speaker 7: were aptant and.
- 26:58Speaker 20: You mentioned it and you've been on ccping that you
- 27:00Speaker 20: ever have been envisioned that this would be kind of
- 27:03Speaker 20: a moment you're for hitting a game when he.
- 27:05Speaker 7: Went one to go to Yeah, of course.
- 27:07Speaker 12: I mean, I mean another thing you know coach Daunton.
- 27:10Speaker 19: Talks about all the time is you know, be the
- 27:13Speaker 19: hero of your imagination and you know when you go
- 27:17Speaker 19: to bed at night and think about, you know, great
- 27:18Speaker 19: things that you're about to do. You know, the previous
- 27:21Speaker 19: at bat versus that guy, you know, I took some
- 27:24Speaker 19: of his best pitches, so you know I knew going
- 27:27Speaker 19: into it. You know, I was kind of decided that
- 27:29Speaker 19: you know, they left him in because I mean I
- 27:32Speaker 19: just knew, like I already took.
- 27:34Speaker 2: That's Daniel Jackson. What a series that was with Mississippi State.
- 27:40Speaker 2: How would you like to score twenty one runs in
- 27:42Speaker 2: a super regional in two games and lose them both?
- 27:47Speaker 2: I mean, you know, my Richardson high math tells me
- 27:51Speaker 2: that's ten and a half runs a game. You're averaging,
- 27:53Speaker 2: and you lost both games because the other team scored
- 27:57Speaker 2: twenty four runs the average twelve runs a game, thirteen
- 28:01Speaker 2: to eleven in the first game, and rather thirteen to
- 28:07Speaker 2: twelve in the first game eleven to nine yesterday to
- 28:10Speaker 2: run over in the night. Georgia coughed up a huge
- 28:14Speaker 2: lead on Saturday, but man, that was some slugging going on.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Georgia I will.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Be the favorite in Omaha.
- 28:31Speaker 2: It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Georgia has the tougher road in the bottom of the
- 28:39Speaker 2: bracket with Oklahoma Alabama and then opening against a really
- 28:45Speaker 2: good Texas team Saturday night. Oklahoma is really stinging the ball.
- 28:57Speaker 2: So we have an all bottom of the bracket. Ole
- 29:04Speaker 2: Miss taking on North Carolina. They're peaking at the right time.
- 29:09Speaker 2: I mean, we knew ole Miss was good obviously, and
- 29:13Speaker 2: Like I said, five of the eight belonged to the SEC.
- 29:19Speaker 2: North Carolina is right there. They had to come from
- 29:26Speaker 2: behind yesterday, very entertaining game. No one is talking about
- 29:31Speaker 2: Troy and West Virginia. West Virginia has been good all year,
- 29:35Speaker 2: They've won forty five games. But I would think that
- 29:43Speaker 2: North Carolina and Georgia would be the two favorites coming
- 29:49Speaker 2: out of there. We're gonna hear from your favorite, Jim
- 29:54Speaker 2: Schlasnagel coming up. The Longhorns were not challenged on Saturday
- 30:05Speaker 2: because Oregon was terrible giving things away, leaving sixteen men
- 30:10Speaker 2: on base, walking runners defensively, but they were really good
- 30:18Speaker 2: last night for most of the way.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Texas had to score late to run double. I think
- 30:24Speaker 1: in the eighth inning. I don't know. I was in bed.
- 30:28Speaker 2: You know, Schlassenagel's games are gonna go close to five hours,
- 30:32Speaker 2: and that one I don't know. Well, I'll try to
- 30:37Speaker 2: look up how long that game lasted last night. Didn't
- 30:40Speaker 2: start to late o'clock. I know it was midnight or
- 30:44Speaker 2: close to it when it was over. But again, all
- 30:49Speaker 2: these games are taking a long time to play, and
- 30:53Speaker 2: you know Schloss's.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Games are going to be.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Long the batters are going to take pitches. They're going
- 31:02Speaker 2: to foul off pitches.
- 31:03Speaker 1: They did that here.
- 31:05Speaker 2: You know when you look at that team, it's they're
- 31:08Speaker 2: doing it in Austin the same way.
- 31:11Speaker 1: So we'll talk about that. Coming up.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Director Anthony Morris is going to join me and we
- 31:17Speaker 2: have the writers round table. So phone the neighbors, wipe
- 31:23Speaker 2: the kids, tell them they're missing out. Galeria has been

- 34:40Speaker 2: By the way, sixty years ago today, there was a
- 34:47Speaker 2: little news conference at the Warwick Hotel in downtown New
- 34:52Speaker 2: York where Pete Roselle and Tech Shram and Lamar Hunt
- 35:07Speaker 2: got together and announced, Oh, by the way, the Big
- 35:12Speaker 2: Bad National Football League is merging with the American Football League.
- 35:23Speaker 2: That's a pretty big deal. That was a pretty pretty
- 35:30Speaker 2: pretty big deal. Sixty Super Bowls, prime time, thirty two teams,
- 35:41Speaker 2: and fantasy football sixty years ago today. All right. Last
- 35:51Speaker 2: night in Austin, the Longhorns got to the College World
- 35:56Speaker 2: Series for the thirty ninth time in team his three.
- 36:01Speaker 2: As promised, you people demanded it. So we're going to
- 36:05Speaker 2: let you listen to Jim Schlasnagel.
- 36:11Speaker 5: Raise hands, we'll get a question, we'll get Mike Yeah,
- 36:14Speaker 5: First of all, I could congratulate Oregon on an awesome season,
- 36:18Speaker 5: what a great team.
- 36:20Speaker 11: Really really well coached.
- 36:22Speaker 24: I thought they were totally locked in the day, and
- 36:26Speaker 24: you know, it's a shame the way these super Regionals
- 36:29Speaker 24: are set up that two super teams I think aren't
- 36:32Speaker 24: going to be there.
- 36:33Speaker 12: But we're excited for our team.
- 36:35Speaker 24: Two people I'd like to mention before we start Scott Wilson,
- 36:39Speaker 24: great Texas fan that means a lot to everybody in
- 36:43Speaker 24: this program over decades and was a very dear friend
- 36:46Speaker 24: to me and I certainly wish he was here to
- 36:48Speaker 24: see it. But we have a picture of in our
- 36:51Speaker 24: locker room that we look at every day, and he's
- 36:54Speaker 24: really one of the first two people I thought of
- 36:56Speaker 24: after we won that game, and of course the last
- 36:58Speaker 24: one just for me personally.
- 36:59Speaker 12: He's coach.
- 37:02Speaker 11: Seventeen years ago.
- 37:03Speaker 24: That was my first Super Regional on this field, and
- 37:07Speaker 24: I remember how that failed to lose, and then of
- 37:08Speaker 24: course one of the next one. But I miss him
- 37:12Speaker 24: and a few his presence all the time, and certainly
- 37:15Speaker 24: excited to win the game, and very proud of these
- 37:18Speaker 24: two guys, very proud of our entire team.
- 37:20Speaker 11: Looking forward to the gomm.
- 37:22Speaker 24: We all went through a lot to be here, and
- 37:25Speaker 24: there's a lot of people at Texas that did. Some
- 37:28Speaker 24: have gone over and above to make sure that we
- 37:31Speaker 24: have had a good experience and have the support to
- 37:33Speaker 24: be successful. And my biggest fear in life is to
- 37:36Speaker 24: let somebody down and just to live up to.
- 37:40Speaker 11: The standard here.
- 37:41Speaker 24: I know the standard is a national title, and we'll
- 37:43Speaker 24: certainly do our best to win that. But I have
- 37:46Speaker 24: to walk by that sign every day that says, you know,
- 37:49Speaker 24: thirty eight trips to Omaha, and thirty eight has been
- 37:52Speaker 24: been sitting there for a while, and so I'm glad
- 37:55Speaker 24: we'll at least to be able to change it to
- 37:56Speaker 24: thirty nine.
- 37:59Speaker 11: Raise hands, We'll get aqu we'll get microphone to you.
- 38:01Speaker 7: Go ahead, Kirk, Jim.
- 38:04Speaker 25: Why is your baseball team so hard to kill.
- 38:08Speaker 11: Good players? You know?
- 38:09Speaker 24: I think, uh, I think our coaching staff is as
- 38:12Speaker 24: good as there is in the country, if not the best,
- 38:15Speaker 24: And we were prepared. We prepared all week, Adrian, I'm
- 38:19Speaker 24: sure we'll talk about that. So we prepared all week,
- 38:22Speaker 24: uh for you know, those bullpen arms for for Oregon
- 38:27Speaker 24: and Bradley was outstanding, and we knew Twist was really
- 38:30Speaker 24: good and Bell has has had such a great season.
- 38:32Speaker 24: But I just feel like we're our commitment to the
- 38:35Speaker 24: mental game and playing the game one pitch at a
- 38:38Speaker 24: time and taking body blows. I mean, you see it
- 38:40Speaker 24: all across these super regionals right now. You know it's
- 38:44Speaker 24: never overtook the absolute last pitch. And certainly thankful for Sam,
- 38:49Speaker 24: Sammy Cozart down there to be able to finish the games.
- 38:52Speaker 7: And you're right, Danny, go ahead place.
- 38:55Speaker 26: Jim.
- 38:56Speaker 23: Speaking of Sam, you know how much confidence does his
- 38:58Speaker 23: team have it in him?
- 38:59Speaker 20: I think the games and Sam, how did you kind
- 39:01Speaker 20: of I guess bounce back off after last week?
- 39:06Speaker 24: We have supreme confidence in him. That's why he was
- 39:08Speaker 24: out there with Omaha on the line. There was once
- 39:10Speaker 24: we took the lead where I was probably gonna do
- 39:12Speaker 24: it tied because I do you know Max coach Max
- 39:16Speaker 24: made a comment about just the energy that you know,
- 39:19Speaker 24: bringing Max and I mean bringing Sam in a in
- 39:21Speaker 24: the tie game would just I.
- 39:22Speaker 11: Think give our team some spark.
- 39:24Speaker 24: Although Burns was pitching well too, but we have supreme
- 39:28Speaker 24: confidence in Sam.
- 39:30Speaker 27: And for me, I I didn't so much as bounce back.
- 39:33Speaker 27: I just honestly don't remember my last outing. I just
- 39:36Speaker 27: live in where my feet are in that moment, and
- 39:39Speaker 27: I was able to just go out there and play
- 39:41Speaker 27: for my.
- 39:41Speaker 11: Team and be president in every moment in the back camera, Well, Levon.
- 39:49Speaker 20: Coach, was there ever a moment d you thought maybe
- 39:52Speaker 20: we'd be playing, you'll be playing tomorrow for a third game,
- 39:56Speaker 20: and maybe you know, saving things and maybe just trying
- 39:59Speaker 20: to put it on on on the line tomorrow. Or
- 40:02Speaker 20: did you know that you have some guys in this
- 40:04Speaker 20: lineup deck because somebody can get a hit if you
- 40:06Speaker 20: give you guys a go ahead run.
- 40:08Speaker 24: Yeah, I mean, I've I mean, I well, first of all,
- 40:09Speaker 24: it's my job to look at the whole big you know,
- 40:13Speaker 24: keep my eye on the entire picture. And since we
- 40:16Speaker 24: won a ballgame yesterday, is to figure out who to
- 40:19Speaker 24: use win and try to keep the big picture in mind.
- 40:22Speaker 24: But there was never, there was never a time that
- 40:24Speaker 24: I didn't think we were going to be competitive and
- 40:26Speaker 24: have a chance to you know, tire or win the game.
- 40:28Speaker 24: I would had full confidence in our team in that
- 40:31Speaker 24: when first of all, we were only down one run.
- 40:33Speaker 24: So as soon as you guy comes to the home plate,
- 40:35Speaker 24: he's the time run. So uh, but you know, Tenny,
- 40:37Speaker 24: Tenny had an awesome at bat right.
- 40:39Speaker 11: Uh with two it was it was all with two outs, correct, Uh?
- 40:43Speaker 24: Tenny Pack Sarah All got on base, and then ay
- 40:46Speaker 24: Rod got his hit.
- 40:48Speaker 11: Back left Avery go ahead.
- 40:50Speaker 26: You mentioned yesterday you knew it would be a dog
- 40:52Speaker 26: fight and you needed an outstanding game from your bullpen tonight.
- 40:57Speaker 26: How encouraging was that, especially to see Walker and Burns
- 41:00Speaker 26: have better command and then obviously it was art and
- 41:04Speaker 26: then to piggyback off of that. How much confidence did
- 41:08Speaker 26: you have in Ruger to come especially in that walk
- 41:12Speaker 26: in the bottom of the fifth and then or the
- 41:14Speaker 26: bottom of the fifth, and then I'm back it for that.
- 41:17Speaker 24: Well, first of all, before the bullpen, Ruger was outstanding.
- 41:19Speaker 11: I mean he was.
- 41:20Speaker 24: He was awesome against a really good offensive team on
- 41:22Speaker 24: an extremely offensive night. With the way the wind was blowing.
- 41:27Speaker 24: You know, we anytime you're playing these not a shift,
- 41:30Speaker 24: were just playing the second basement high against the right
- 41:33Speaker 24: handed hitters, you certainly leave yourself a little bit open
- 41:37Speaker 24: to somebody shoot one through the right side, and that
- 41:38Speaker 24: happened twice. If we don't have him there, it's completely
- 41:42Speaker 24: different outing for Ruger. But we also had some balls
- 41:45Speaker 24: hit up the middle last night. That that that we
- 41:48Speaker 24: kept from getting into the outfield.
- 41:49Speaker 11: So I thought Ruger was great.
- 41:51Speaker 24: I thought he got better as the game went on,
- 41:53Speaker 24: and then Walker got a big out. Went with Brody
- 41:57Speaker 24: because I felt like he had been in the moment
- 42:00Speaker 24: he had faced the He's pretty good against the righties.
- 42:02Speaker 24: But he hung a breaking ball. Was it Cooney? I
- 42:07Speaker 24: think yeah, he hung hung a breaking ball to Cooney.
- 42:09Speaker 24: And then but Burns did a good job of limiting
- 42:11Speaker 24: the damage and Adrian's play even though we didn't get
- 42:14Speaker 24: the out at home plate.
- 42:15Speaker 11: Adrian's play was a big play.
- 42:16Speaker 24: Every every pitch, every every every play matters in the
- 42:19Speaker 24: game to try and limit the score.
- 42:21Speaker 11: Starting your left heap and go ahead, Adrian.
- 42:23Speaker 23: I know you guys, in your two years that you've
- 42:26Speaker 23: been here, have gone through a few celebrations and things
- 42:28Speaker 23: you do at second base. This one feels new. That
- 42:30Speaker 23: little shimmy you're doing, What is that? Where did that
- 42:33Speaker 23: come from? And how did that feel? After you had
- 42:35Speaker 23: that hint in the eighth inning.
- 42:36Speaker 17: Yeah, So there's a there's a song that we usually
- 42:39Speaker 17: play like going going places, like if we're on the road,
- 42:41Speaker 17: it's like a hype song. For us to get us
- 42:43Speaker 17: hype before we play another team, and we, uh, we
- 42:46Speaker 17: had like a shoulder sholdie competition. We call it like
- 42:49Speaker 17: just just kind of throwing. You can throw the harder
- 42:51Speaker 17: shoulder and that's we kind of it got us hype.
- 42:54Speaker 17: So it kind of we started doing that at second
- 42:56Speaker 17: base and that's what That's what the guy's going.
- 42:59Speaker 16: Said, right, Adrian, You've been really candid about your struggles
- 43:03Speaker 16: with the procedure, the painful swings we watched you take,
- 43:07Speaker 16: and to have a weekend like this and the game
- 43:10Speaker 16: winning hit, how does that How does that feel in
- 43:13Speaker 16: this moment?
- 43:14Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean it feels I mean it feels awesome.
- 43:17Speaker 17: Going through a lot of struggles during the season. Definitely
- 43:20Speaker 17: just keeping my my steady, steady head throughout the whole season,
- 43:23Speaker 17: knowing that my time will come. Coaches all trust me
- 43:26Speaker 17: and I trust everyone else to have my back, and
- 43:28Speaker 17: I came through for the squad today.
- 43:30Speaker 28: Right left, David ahead, Jim, I'm sure you've coached a
- 43:34Speaker 28: lot of guys through some pain, you know, like what
- 43:37Speaker 28: a Rods had to had to play with. How do
- 43:40Speaker 28: you manage that? And I guess to see him do
- 43:43Speaker 28: what he did tonight, is it kind of kind of
- 43:45Speaker 28: worth it for you?
- 43:46Speaker 11: Yeah. I couldn't be more proud of him.
- 43:48Speaker 24: I have coached many guys through some level of pain,
- 43:52Speaker 24: including there's more than just Adrian on this team that
- 43:54Speaker 24: are going through some things to try and be out
- 43:57Speaker 24: there on the field.
- 43:58Speaker 11: But what Adrian's had to do.
- 44:00Speaker 24: Being a career switch hitter, and then last year, you know,
- 44:03Speaker 24: having to go through only being able to hit left
- 44:05Speaker 24: handed facing you know, left handed pitching for the first
- 44:07Speaker 24: time in his life left on left and doing that
- 44:09Speaker 24: in the SEC as a freshman, and then just so
- 44:13Speaker 24: many trials that he's been through. And I think him
- 44:17Speaker 24: and his dad and his family being supportive, and our
- 44:20Speaker 24: medical staff has done everything they can to help him.
- 44:22Speaker 24: And but he's the one that has to go out
- 44:24Speaker 24: there and have the at bats and do the work
- 44:25Speaker 24: and like I said yesterday, he'll be better for this
- 44:29Speaker 24: long long term. But certainly couldn't be more proud of him.
- 44:33Speaker 24: I mean, what a player, what a great player, what
- 44:35Speaker 24: a what a player that comes rises to the occasion,
- 44:38Speaker 24: you know, when when needed. And I'm certainly glad he's
- 44:41Speaker 24: a longhorn.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Jim Schlasnagel.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Adrian Rodriguez and reliever Sam Kosart after the Long Horns

- 46:34Speaker 6: homer from Nick Kurtz followed by an RBI double for

- 47:49Speaker 1: Calling up, but right now I want to jump out.
- 47:51Speaker 2: To the Polaris Fund Center zoom line visit with the
- 47:55Speaker 2: director co writed editor at executive producer of the brand
- 48:01Speaker 2: new movie Pressure. He is Anthony Morris. Anthony, how are you.
- 48:08Speaker 7: I'm doing well, So how are you going?
- 48:09Speaker 1: I'm doing great. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
- 48:12Speaker 2: I went Saturday to see it and it was just
- 48:15Speaker 2: terrific And congratulations.
- 48:17Speaker 7: To you, thank you, and good day for seeing it on.
- 48:20Speaker 2: The Absolutely, absolutely it was a great day for seeing it.
- 48:26Speaker 2: I read a little bit that that this came from
- 48:28Speaker 2: from a stage play.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Am I right about that?
- 48:32Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 48:32Speaker 8: It was a stage play that did very well on
- 48:35Speaker 8: London's with End, and they even played scenes for the
- 48:39Speaker 8: Queen and the presidents and prime ministers of all the
- 48:43Speaker 8: Allied nations who came together at the seventy fifth anniversary
- 48:47Speaker 8: of D Day. And so we know we're in great
- 48:51Speaker 8: debt to a fantastic play that this is based on.
- 48:53Speaker 2: And then you adopted the screenplay as I understand, did
- 48:58Speaker 2: you not?
- 48:59Speaker 8: Yes, yep, myself and the original playwright, David Hague worked
- 49:03Speaker 8: on it together.
- 49:04Speaker 2: And tell me what drew you to the project when
- 49:08Speaker 2: you heard about it?
- 49:11Speaker 8: You know, I did consider myself a bit of a
- 49:13Speaker 8: history buff and a bit of a student of World
- 49:16Speaker 8: War Two.
- 49:17Speaker 7: I had no idea that the.
- 49:20Speaker 8: Lead up to the you know, one of the biggest
- 49:22Speaker 8: invasions or amphibious invasions in history.
- 49:26Speaker 7: Specifically so dramatic and exciting.
- 49:28Speaker 8: I had no idea that, of all things, that came
- 49:31Speaker 8: down to a bloody weather report and you know that
- 49:35Speaker 8: ultimately decided the fate of millions of people. And yeah,
- 49:40Speaker 8: I just I just felt that the clash of personalities
- 49:44Speaker 8: of these really brilliant minds but also these really big
- 49:48Speaker 8: egos in the days leading up to the invasion could
- 49:51Speaker 8: be so captivating. And yeah, you've got these historical titans
- 49:55Speaker 8: like Eisenhower and Montgomery that we know of, but you've
- 49:59Speaker 8: also got these completely unknown figures like the meteorologist James Stagg,
- 50:03Speaker 8: who looked these men in the eyes and basically told
- 50:07Speaker 8: them the exact thing that they didn't want to hear
- 50:10Speaker 8: forty eight hours out from D Day, which is, if
- 50:12Speaker 8: you do what you're planning to do, you know most
- 50:15Speaker 8: of your men, if not all of them, are going
- 50:16Speaker 8: to die.
- 50:17Speaker 7: And it's something they didn't want to hear. And then
- 50:20Speaker 7: the fireworks ensued.
- 50:21Speaker 8: So that was that was a lot of what got
- 50:25Speaker 8: me into it. Also, I just thought it was very
- 50:27Speaker 8: relevant to today, like just in what it said about
- 50:30Speaker 8: leadership and with pressure and you know all that sort
- 50:34Speaker 8: of stuff.
- 50:35Speaker 1: So, yeah, well you brought it to life beautifully.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Brendan Fraser as Ike was terrific, And you mentioned I
- 50:44Speaker 2: think he captured the idea that the kind of the
- 50:47Speaker 2: weight of the world was on his decision with a
- 50:50Speaker 2: literally well yeah, and making a decision based on a
- 50:55Speaker 2: weather forecast. And as you mentioned, I had no idea either,
- 50:59Speaker 2: as much as I've studied this that that this is
- 51:02Speaker 2: what took place the day surrounding. And to me, that's
- 51:05Speaker 2: what makes the story so compelling.
- 51:08Speaker 7: Yeah, it is.
- 51:09Speaker 8: It's it's you think what these characters are going through
- 51:13Speaker 8: and they had none of the modern technology that we have.
- 51:16Speaker 7: Like to think of how think of.
- 51:18Speaker 8: How difficult it is to arrange your bloody wedding, let's say,
- 51:21Speaker 8: and what's the weather going to be on the wedding.
- 51:23Speaker 7: But now you've.
- 51:24Speaker 8: Got you know, three hundred thousand soldiers and sailors and
- 51:28Speaker 8: then ultimately a million men that you've got to cross
- 51:30Speaker 8: the channel with and you've got Nazis shooting at them,
- 51:34Speaker 8: and you've got to make the call do we send
- 51:37Speaker 8: them or don't we send them?
- 51:38Speaker 7: If we don't, you know, we might lose. If we do,
- 51:41Speaker 7: we might lose our army. What to do?
- 51:44Speaker 8: And yeah, it's when you when you look at it
- 51:48Speaker 8: like that, it's it's kind of nuts.
- 51:50Speaker 7: It's kind of dramatic.
- 51:51Speaker 2: The other thing that I thought I knew was that
- 51:54Speaker 2: that the weather certainly wasn't perfect on d Day. There
- 51:57Speaker 2: were there were certain all kinds of this with the
- 52:01Speaker 2: low ceiling, with the wave height and trying to land
- 52:05Speaker 2: men on the beaches. But you mentioned in the movie
- 52:10Speaker 2: and Andrew Scott, who plays James Stagg, said, look, you're
- 52:15Speaker 2: going to have a window. I'm confident you're going to
- 52:18Speaker 2: have a window. And that I mean that. No telling
- 52:22Speaker 2: how many lives that saved.
- 52:24Speaker 7: Well, they were. It's you know, it's like the proverbial, you.
- 52:28Speaker 8: Know, trying to pass, in this case an army through
- 52:31Speaker 8: the eye of an needle.
- 52:33Speaker 7: They had no room for error.
- 52:35Speaker 8: If they had gone on the day that they had
- 52:37Speaker 8: initially planned to, which ultimately was a day earlier, yes
- 52:40Speaker 8: they would have been wiped off the map. But you
- 52:43Speaker 8: know it was only till very late in the peace.
- 52:45Speaker 8: It's not like when they delayed they said okay, well
- 52:48Speaker 8: we'll just go tomorrow. Yes, the point that they delayed.
- 52:50Speaker 8: They didn't know when they could go. They might never
- 52:53Speaker 8: be able to go, you know, they they said originally
- 52:56Speaker 8: it might not be for another few weeks, right, and
- 52:59Speaker 8: by the Germans probably would have found out about it
- 53:02Speaker 8: and there would be no d Day. Ultimately, the next
- 53:05Speaker 8: clear patch that they thought that they would be able
- 53:07Speaker 8: to go on, which is when the tides were in
- 53:10Speaker 8: a particular way and when the moon was a particular way,
- 53:13Speaker 8: wasn't until.
- 53:14Speaker 7: June nineteenth, Yes, June eighteenth, nineteen.
- 53:18Speaker 8: And had they waited until that point, there was a
- 53:23Speaker 8: once in a forty year storm that happened at that
- 53:25Speaker 8: point that would have completely smashed them as well. So
- 53:29Speaker 8: the day that they chose to go was like literally was.
- 53:34Speaker 8: It was the last opportunity that they had, and you know,
- 53:38Speaker 8: they bloody got it right.
- 53:40Speaker 2: So yeah, tell our listeners about the conflict especially between
- 53:45Speaker 2: James Stagg played by Andrew Scott and Irving Krik that
- 53:50Speaker 2: the US meteorologist.
- 53:52Speaker 7: Well, the thing is both of.
- 53:54Speaker 8: Them were really brilliant, exceptional meteorologists, so both highly intelligent.
- 53:59Speaker 8: They just had very different ways of doing things. Krick
- 54:02Speaker 8: had worked with had worked with the Allies all through
- 54:05Speaker 8: North Africa, was an extremely accomplished meteorologist, but he just
- 54:11Speaker 8: had a very different way of doing things. He looked
- 54:13Speaker 8: back to historical records and tried to extrapolate from what
- 54:18Speaker 8: the weather had done in the past, ye what it
- 54:19Speaker 8: was going to do now, whereas STAG was taking massive
- 54:24Speaker 8: amounts of data as much as they could from the
- 54:27Speaker 8: current conditions and trying to basically predict the weather based
- 54:32Speaker 8: on this. And ultimately one of them SAG said, the
- 54:36Speaker 8: weather is going to be an absolute didath Krick said,
- 54:40Speaker 8: you know, what are you talking about. It's going to
- 54:42Speaker 8: be sunshine and the rainbowsts.
- 54:44Speaker 7: Throughout that week.
- 54:46Speaker 8: And then you've got Eisenhower forced to decide between these
- 54:50Speaker 8: two completely different opinions, and you know.
- 54:54Speaker 7: He had reason to believe both of them.
- 54:56Speaker 8: They both were really proptional meteorologis both proven, but ultimately
- 55:03Speaker 8: he had the wisdom to, you know, to choose correctly.
- 55:06Speaker 8: And the film takes us through how it is that
- 55:10Speaker 8: he got to that decision, Like in many ways, you know,
- 55:13Speaker 8: it's a war story, but it's also just a story
- 55:16Speaker 8: about exceptional decision making, no doubt about about how a leader,
- 55:22Speaker 8: you know, really comes to a considered decision that hopefully
- 55:26Speaker 8: will benefit the lives of millions as opposed to kill them.
- 55:31Speaker 2: So what did you learn about k Summers be played
- 55:34Speaker 2: by Kerrie Condon as the Eisenhower's aid.
- 55:38Speaker 8: Well, what I was shocked by was just how tough
- 55:41Speaker 8: this woman was. Her husband was killed in service in
- 55:46Speaker 8: World War Two, and you know, she didn't just go on,
- 55:50Speaker 8: you know, shirk off into the night.
- 55:53Speaker 7: She said, well, I'm going to I'm going to contribute myself.
- 55:57Speaker 8: And she started driving ambulances and drive both dead bodies
- 56:01Speaker 8: and very injured people through the blitz in London. She
- 56:07Speaker 8: got some notice there for doing really well there, and
- 56:10Speaker 8: she ultimately ended up driving senior staff members and ultimately Eisenhower.
- 56:15Speaker 8: And she was a she you know, rose, He rose
- 56:18Speaker 8: through the ranks and kind of became quite an influential
- 56:22Speaker 8: figure in the background in so far as Eisenhower was concerned.
- 56:27Speaker 8: If you look at a lot of old photos from
- 56:29Speaker 8: the time where Ike is meeting with de gaul or
- 56:31Speaker 8: Stalin or Churchill, you see there in the background, and
- 56:35Speaker 8: she was this figure that he could trust and that
- 56:39Speaker 8: he could speak to. She later claimed that they had
- 56:43Speaker 8: a very passionate relationship, the two of them in a
- 56:46Speaker 8: book that was written just before she died.
- 56:48Speaker 7: So there was there.
- 56:50Speaker 8: Was like a whole confluence of things that were going
- 56:53Speaker 8: on between them in the store, in the in the
- 56:56Speaker 8: period that our film takes place in the lead up
- 56:59Speaker 8: to D Day.
- 57:01Speaker 7: It very much gets into how she was.
- 57:03Speaker 8: Pretty critical, yes, for in being able to work through
- 57:09Speaker 8: his thinking and just see how it was that he
- 57:12Speaker 8: felt about the other people around him and who you
- 57:14Speaker 8: could trust. And she was pretty critical to that process.
- 57:17Speaker 2: The book, the movie is called Pressure, Anthony. I really
- 57:22Speaker 2: enjoyed it. It's out right now. It's a terrific movie.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Thanks so much for your time.
- 57:27Speaker 7: Thank you so much. Appreciate it.
- 57:28Speaker 2: Yes, sir, again, I highly recommend this movie. It's called Pressure.

- 58:23Speaker 2: for automatic transmission, manual transmission service, they're going to provide
- 58:28Speaker 2: the best. If it has transmission on the name of
- 58:32Speaker 2: the business, maybe you should let them look at your
- 58:35Speaker 2: transmissions and maybe you should think about a little preventive
- 58:40Speaker 2: work the way you do the rest of your automobile
- 58:43Speaker 2: engine twenty one.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Oh seven Cabot for over fifty years.
- 58:48Speaker 2: See why they say no one knows transmissions like we
- 58:51Speaker 2: do at Oliver Brothers
