- 0:20Hello. Good morning, my friend.
- 0:22Good. Morning.
- 0:23How are we today? Good.
- 0:26So it's so funny because I was thinking the other day where
- 0:29there are things that I would text you to tell you, but I want
- 0:31to wait until the pod. It's so funny you said that
- 0:33because I felt the same way about something I want to ask
- 0:35you. And then also, I was going to
- 0:37message you when I saw your orange plant this morning.
- 0:40The orange. Tree, the orange tree.
- 0:43A so jealous. I want to sniff it with you.
- 0:47B I've just like the last two days felt kind of just like in a
- 0:50funk. So then when I saw like your
- 0:51sunshine and like the orange, I was like, I don't want to be
- 0:56here. I saw that it was sunny and then
- 1:00it got, Mandy shared. It was not sunny.
- 1:03And that's like literally spring in Wisconsin.
- 1:05It goes from like could feel like summer to it could feel
- 1:07like winter within. Like today it's 32.
- 1:10And I shouldn't like, I shouldn't complain, but it's
- 1:13like, I'm just going to complain a little bit because we're still
- 1:15supposed to be in Florida. But it's just like, the last two
- 1:17days have just been completely Gray and just like, and I'm
- 1:22literally like, I've been thinking, I know Casey feels the
- 1:24same way. Like, why do we live here?
- 1:26And I know the reason why that we stay living here is family.
- 1:29Like, yeah. And obviously we love our
- 1:31community with people we work with and stuff like that.
- 1:33But like, genuinely, I'm like, these are the moments that make
- 1:38me want to move. But then the summer makes me
- 1:40like, Oh yeah, I love it here so much.
- 1:42Yeah, we we were talking about that the other day.
- 1:44Where we so often I'm like, if Kate and Casey were here, we'd
- 1:49be going for a bike ride right now like we was.
- 1:51Actually thinking, have you guys gone for a bike ride since we've
- 1:53left? Not a bike ride, but walks.
- 1:55Oh, of course you guys always walk but.
- 1:57Even going for a walk when we usually wouldn't like and we
- 2:02walked up to get ice cream the other day.
- 2:04Oh love that. Did you get the salted caramel?
- 2:08They didn't have it so I had to get which was still good, but it
- 2:11was like a lemon cookie one. It was good, but not the IT
- 2:16doesn't have the umami. Of Oh yeah, OK, I have a burning
- 2:20question for you. What?
- 2:22How was lasagna and booze? Oh my gosh.
- 2:26OK, It was really great. My expectation was so different
- 2:29than what it turned out to be. Pause.
- 2:31Can you get just a slight background of like why you're
- 2:35going over to 70 something year old's house for the first time
- 2:39in your neighborhood, which nothing wrong with that, but
- 2:42just a little contact for our people.
- 2:44OK, so whenever my dad, who he passed away in November of 2023,
- 2:49we were very close. He'd come over almost weekly for
- 2:52coffee dates and he would, I mean, so often he would mention
- 2:56his friend John, who was a florist, had a florist company
- 3:00and he sold it. And then he, him and his wife
- 3:04bought an older home in our neighborhood and tore it down
- 3:09and they were going to build a new home.
- 3:10And so when he was still here, it was still the old house and
- 3:15like, they just started tearing it down.
- 3:16But he would always talk so much about it, like, oh, John's so
- 3:19excited. It's so cool he's living in this
- 3:20neighborhood. One day I actually tried to give
- 3:22him directions and I'm very similar to him with directions
- 3:26where it's like, I don't, don't tell me north and east.
- 3:28I don't know where that is joining the landmark.
- 3:31Like turned by the ice cream shop.
- 3:33Wait, but like when we were. Side note, when we were helping
- 3:37you out trying to help you find a Airbnb and Bobby sent you
- 3:40coordinates. I almost, I almost died.
- 3:42I was like Casey, Bobby sent me coordinates.
- 3:45I don't know how to find this. He's like, I I'll help you.
- 3:48And I'm just like who sends coordinates?
- 3:50Because Bobby always knows where North and South and east and
- 3:52West is. Seems as far as seems the only
- 3:55way. I know even where which side it
- 3:58is on is never eat soggy waffles.
- 4:00I still have to say that to myself, OK?
- 4:02Mine's never eat soggy Wheaties. You just like malfunctioned when
- 4:10I said that and. It's such an odd saying.
- 4:13Is that my Wisconsin thing? No, I don't think it's a
- 4:17Wisconsin thing. Do you know Wheaties?
- 4:19The cereal. Cereal.
- 4:20Yeah. Yeah, I used to love Wheaties
- 4:22for some reason as a kid, so I think my parents just said it
- 4:26was Wheaties then. OK, because soggy Wheaties suck.
- 4:29You need to like eat Wheaties quick.
- 4:31That's the part that got me the soggy, not the Wheaties, but the
- 4:33soggy Wheaties, OK. Wait, didn't you just say soggy
- 4:36waffles? I did.
- 4:37Wait, what? What?
- 4:39OK, sometimes I just forget what happened 2 seconds ago one.
- 4:43Word. And it was Wheaties.
- 4:47OK, back to John. OK so so ever since then I've
- 4:51been like, oh I it would be cool to meet him.
- 4:53Like ever since my dad passed, I've part of me has just wanted
- 4:58to be around people that knew him.
- 5:02So we, I ran into his wife one time when I took Johnny on a
- 5:06walk and we there, the older guy that lives across the street
- 5:09from them who's like in his 80s or 90s, would come out and talk
- 5:12with us. And then John's wife Sally came
- 5:14out and was I was like, oh, you knew my dad, Joe, Man Gaskell.
- 5:18And so then when you all were in town, I saw John outside working
- 5:23in his yard. And I was like, oh, man, we
- 5:24should go over and just say hi. So we went over.
- 5:28He took us into the backyard and we went into, because they have
- 5:33a new build for their house. It's really nice.
- 5:36And he took us into his man cave, which is behind a
- 5:40bookshelf, which is really cool. And.
- 5:42An indoor bookshelf. An indoor bookshop slides it.
- 5:45So cool and took us in and he showed I was.
- 5:50I didn't know that they were close in this way.
- 5:52I know they played GG together. But he showed me a picture of my
- 5:56dad on his wall in a golf cart and I started crying.
- 5:59And so then I think later that day or a few days later, his
- 6:06wife texted me asking us over to dinner.
- 6:08Yeah, I think it was that day. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:11So something that was interesting and this is just
- 6:14perspective on when someone passes that you were really
- 6:17close to. It's odd how things pop up like
- 6:20stories people tell. And so John one, it was really
- 6:25nice. They're both really great.
- 6:27I thought I was going to walk in and there would be like music
- 6:29playing and like I wondered if they were like partiers, boomers
- 6:33or whatever. No walk in.
- 6:35You can hear a pin drop which is interesting, but they were so.
- 6:38For the dinner or. The dinner, OK.
- 6:40Yeah, no, no, even like soft music playing or anything, no.
- 6:43Soft music. I would have really, I'm like,
- 6:50so I, you know me, I would have been like sent.
- 6:55All right, here we were constantly putting on play
- 6:57Olivia Dean music. Still do everyday.
- 7:00See Still putting it. On I always start to the same
- 7:02song and I'm Yeah. I and also, this is just my
- 7:04problem. It's like if we're gonna be
- 7:06sitting down and eating, I cannot just like, like with like
- 7:13new people just sit there and hearing them.
- 7:21Well, so we I think first they got us a drink or whatever.
- 7:25I just had white wine, which was not good.
- 7:27I don't, I don't miss white wine, but go I'd rather have a
- 7:30cute cocktail. But anyway, so then we sit down.
- 7:33She made this amazing lasagna. I'm sitting in a chair that's
- 7:36like an antique from a restaurant downtown, which is,
- 7:40it looks like it has leather. And right away I'm like, Oh no,
- 7:43like I'm a little warm in this house.
- 7:45What if I start sweating and I get up and there's like a butt
- 7:48print. And so I my nerves got there.
- 7:50Was. No, but I thought of that.
- 7:53That's. What you were thinking?
- 7:54Oh yeah, you are so worried about Quest.
- 7:56Yeah, so nervous like you will never if you, I told you this,
- 7:59if you catch me in khakis, you need to check on me 'cause yeah.
- 8:02Things gone wrong. Yeah, so I even asked.
- 8:05I was like, is it OK if I sweat on this chair 'cause I don't
- 8:09know if this is like an antique or ruin it?
- 8:12And he was like, what? No, it's like vinyl and it's OK.
- 8:15Anyway, so it was nice. And then he started telling a
- 8:19few stories about my dad that were, there's something about my
- 8:22dad, who his personality was, who's very outgoing, very nice,
- 8:27very personable. He liked being funny.
- 8:30And so when guys he hung out with tell a story, it's usually
- 8:34something that makes him kind of like the butt of the joke.
- 8:37Like he was telling a story about how my dad, he wasn't
- 8:42allowed to drive the golf cart anymore because he ran it into a
- 8:46ditch or something. Or I don't know, the way he was
- 8:48telling it was kind of like my dad seemed like silly.
- 8:52I don't know, it was like a weird feeling.
- 8:55And I was like, and I know they wouldn't even think that this is
- 9:00how it went or whatever how I felt about it, but it just made
- 9:04me feel like, oh wow. Like it's so interesting where
- 9:07you perceive someone differently and then other people that hung
- 9:10out with him perceive him in a different way.
- 9:12But anyway, so it was great. It was so much fun.
- 9:14We hung out on the back and had cocktails.
- 9:16And then she texted me a few days later with a picture of the
- 9:20golf cart that John was talking about.
- 9:22And I was like, I just because at first I was like, oh, I don't
- 9:24really like, OK, that's great. Whatever.
- 9:27Yeah. So I just responded, OK, ha, ha,
- 9:31'cause I was like, I, I didn't want to be like, oh, I love this
- 9:34story so much. Tell me more.
- 9:36And she immediately responded. She must be very intuitive or
- 9:39something or like, I don't know. But she said, oh, I'm so sorry
- 9:42if this hurt your feelings. Like I didn't mean it that way.
- 9:45And I was like, wow, I don't know.
- 9:47Oh, ha, ha, makes that OK. So and then I told her I was
- 9:51honest with her and I said, I know you didn't mean it in this
- 9:54way, but it just, I don't like hearing stories about my dad
- 9:56that make him seem silly when that's not who my dad was to me.
- 9:59He was so much more. So anyway, it was just it's like
- 10:03a different. Interesting.
- 10:04I feel like that is probably like it sounds like that was
- 10:08easy for you to say or was that not?
- 10:10So easy. That's yeah, I think that's like
- 10:14probably. Would that have been that easy
- 10:16like a couple years ago? No, why?
- 10:19I think the people pleaser me that has gotten much quieter the
- 10:22older I get. But I would worry too much
- 10:24about, well, I don't want to make her uncomfortable.
- 10:27But I was like, I'm just going to say it because I don't want
- 10:29to. This is such a big thing when
- 10:30you're grieving someone and I still am today but in a
- 10:33different way. But I also, everyone, it's just
- 10:38like how I've said to you so many times where I love when you
- 10:40have. You're the only person in my
- 10:42life, really who has done this, where you've asked about my dad
- 10:44or wanted me to tell a story about him or you've kept him in
- 10:47the conversation. Yeah.
- 10:48And I think a lot of people tiptoe around it because they
- 10:51don't want to make you sad. So it's like, so weird.
- 10:53You don't know how to approach people when they're grieving.
- 10:55Yeah. And so when I told her that I
- 10:58really just wanted to be honest. And I I also wanted to say I, I
- 11:02know you didn't mean anything by this, like just being around you
- 11:05all and knowing that you knew him so well or in your own way,
- 11:09that's special enough to me. But yeah, it wasn't hard.
- 11:11Yeah. How was she?
- 11:12How was her response to you after that I.
- 11:15Mean there's only so much you can tell in a text.
- 11:17But of course I didn't want her to feel bad.
- 11:19And I was like, Sally, please, we had so much fun.
- 11:22We really enjoyed it. You've gotten us a little closer
- 11:26to wanting or trying to get our lake house one day.
- 11:28So but yeah, I don't know. But then part of me is too like,
- 11:33it's kind of what we talked about with owners.
- 11:34Like you mentioned this on the last podcast.
- 11:38Like especially when you're talking to an adult, they're an
- 11:40adult, you know, you can't really control how they take
- 11:44something. I don't know if you said it like
- 11:45this, but that's how I feel where my intention is good.
- 11:48I'm not trying to be an asshole. I'm just I I don't know if it's
- 11:52cuz I'm 40 I could be a lie I don't know.
- 11:54It's life experiences make me not gonna sugar coat stuff in
- 11:57that way. I even think about that like not
- 12:01that this makes anything OK, but like, I'm sure you feel this way
- 12:04too. If someone were to ever say
- 12:06something about like Bobby's personality or something like
- 12:10it's almost like if it were to come across as, you know,
- 12:15negative in any realm, you're going to get like defensive and
- 12:20like same with me. Like if, if anyone's going to
- 12:22like pick on Casey, I'm like, no way.
- 12:26But I'm like, but if I say something that's a little bit
- 12:28different, like I can, I can poke fun or I can, you know, to
- 12:31an extent. One thing that I definitely know
- 12:34that I used to do, and this is nothing against like my
- 12:37mother-in-law or anything, but if there would be any sort of
- 12:40like conversation and Casey would get brought up like, Oh
- 12:42well, you know, men and stuff like that.
- 12:44And like I just don't feel that way at all about Casey.
- 12:47Like he has his tendencies of things that just and it's not
- 12:50even a a man thing. It's just a Casey thing that he
- 12:52does that, like, can, of course irritate me or like, left
- 12:55cabinet doors open or something. But I don't love when people,
- 12:58like, try to almost kind of like, talk negatively about,
- 13:04like, their partner or like, yes, and loop me in, like, I'm
- 13:08gonna agree with them. And I used to sit there and be
- 13:11like, Oh yeah, like, I totally get that.
- 13:14And I don't do that anymore. So it's kind of like that.
- 13:16Very, very different. Just be here.
- 13:18Yeah. So like I find myself now being
- 13:21like, well, no, like, I don't feel that way with Casey, so I
- 13:24don't relate, but I hear you. I used to just be like, oh,
- 13:27yeah, I totally get it. I totally know.
- 13:29Meanwhile, I'm like, no, like I don't, I don't want to talk
- 13:32negatively about my partner. Like obviously there's something
- 13:35going on, you're confiding in a friend or something, but I don't
- 13:39know, I just feel very like also uncomfortable when other people
- 13:42talk really negatively about their partner and not.
- 13:45And again, if it's a friend that's just feeling, hey, we're
- 13:47going through something and, you know, that's what it is.
- 13:50But I feel that I used to definitely just sit there.
- 13:53It's kind of like, you know, being complacent and like
- 13:56listening and hearing it. I also found that, like with
- 13:59owners, I tended to kind of sit there and be like, yeah, I know,
- 14:03like when they would kind of almost throw each other under
- 14:05the bus, like at a go home or something like that.
- 14:08And so now instead of just like, Yep, I'll try to take a step
- 14:10back and just be like, you know, these are conversations that you
- 14:13guys are going to want to have. Like, I get what you're saying
- 14:15to me is like, you know, this one's fun guy and he's not going
- 14:19to follow the rules. Instead of me just being like,
- 14:21oh, yeah, like, I totally get that.
- 14:23I now try to make it a point to say something like that's going
- 14:27to come up, but like, you guys will have to get have a
- 14:29conversation about this. Like, it's going to cause issues
- 14:32if you guys are like, butting heads about certain things not
- 14:34on the same page. So like what you said about
- 14:38growth and experiences, and that's clearly through any sort
- 14:41of journey, whether it's grief, relationships, working with
- 14:43owners, Yeah, all kind of align in that way.
- 14:47Yeah. Well, and I, I think you get to
- 14:49a point where you look back on moments and you're like, why
- 14:53didn't I like say something? There's just so many moments
- 14:56where that happens where I get to a point where you're like, I
- 14:58just don't want to do that anymore.
- 14:59Like I still think about and not to like make people feel like
- 15:03you can't say anything around people that are grieving.
- 15:05Everyone is different. But I remember being in the
- 15:07hospital and my dad's partner he worked with and his wife was
- 15:11there and my dad was still in a coma and she started telling a
- 15:17story about him where he was again.
- 15:21And I know he was like silly around other people, but like, I
- 15:24don't know. I don't.
- 15:25And I don't know if I would know not to do this around people.
- 15:28I'm probably be way more sensitive when people lose
- 15:30someone. But it made me, I was like, I
- 15:34saw red. I was so upset.
- 15:36But then I also had this voice in my head and I remember it's
- 15:39almost like someone was on my shoulder telling me like, I
- 15:41don't don't upset anyone. Like you're cool.
- 15:44Don't like tell her to stop or whatever.
- 15:47Where I still think about that moment.
- 15:49And that's something I think when you were in such deep grief
- 15:52where nothing else really matters.
- 15:54Like that's one time in my life where I was like, I don't give a
- 15:57shit what anyone thinks about me.
- 15:58I'm going to say what I want. I'm going to do what I want.
- 16:00I don't care what I don't. Care.
- 16:03OK, by the way, that's my been my motto in my head for.
- 16:06Truly, I don't care. I think others too, like the
- 16:10feedback we got on that. Not to like totally derail this
- 16:12conversation we're having, but that feedback was like, people
- 16:16were like, I love this episode, which we're not always going to
- 16:20have a home run for every single one.
- 16:22They all have their good bits, but the ending of last week's
- 16:24was just like Mic drop and. We almost got off the call
- 16:28before that, you know that because I was like, oh wait, I
- 16:31had to ask you about your dogs and cats.
- 16:36Yes. Oh my gosh, yeah.
- 16:37But. Yeah.
- 16:37No, it's just I think, and I think that just comes from
- 16:40experience. Yeah, and I think probably, and
- 16:43this doesn't make your feelings invalid or incorrect, but I bet
- 16:47where those people are coming from is thinking like, if I tell
- 16:51some like something funny, it'll make her laugh or like, make her
- 16:55feel for sure happy. And that's why you were telling
- 16:58that other lady like, I know you meant nothing.
- 17:00Yeah, negative about it. But you're also allowed to say,
- 17:03like, what you're comfortable talking about when you're not
- 17:06comfortable talking about when you're, you know, grieving the
- 17:09person that you know is so important to you.
- 17:11Well, it's also probably good that I didn't say anything in
- 17:13that moment. Now I'm thinking about it like
- 17:15it would have come out way more harsh than.
- 17:17Oh my gosh, you. Yeah, it was, he hadn't passed
- 17:21yet. Like it was, it was so much
- 17:23intensity going on that it's like, yeah, probably good that
- 17:27you were able to just for yourself, not even for her, not
- 17:30even to protect her, just for you, to protect the emotions you
- 17:35were already feeling. And my mom, like now I think way
- 17:38more about that where it's like whatever I'm doing or if I say
- 17:41something, if I'm with my mom who's also struggling, like how
- 17:45about I just make this moment a little easier for her and let
- 17:47her laugh at this. Whatever.
- 17:50OK, so change directions. So I sent that dog home.
- 17:53The golden retriever. Like early.
- 17:55Yeah, OK, I noticed. Yeah, I hadn't seen what what's
- 17:59going on, What happened? Well, I feel like I'm like
- 18:02looking like this. Do I look insane as I'm?
- 18:04No, you don't look insane at all.
- 18:05I just keep looking at myself because I'm in the kennel room
- 18:07now and I feel like I look so blurry, but whatever it is,
- 18:12whatever. I don't care.
- 18:13No, I don't care. OK, so.
- 18:16OK. This story time, tell me what?
- 18:19Well, I'm really batting it up to be like something amazing of
- 18:22a story, but it was just, I don't want to work with dogs
- 18:25that have separation anxiety. And it was not on the list.
- 18:28And it was also the situation. And this is for trainers.
- 18:31Hopefully they can relate where my gut just kept telling me like
- 18:35this is way more than one. I think my two week program
- 18:39allows for a young dog who's super pushy in the kennel.
- 18:43It was not on their list of things to work through when I
- 18:46don't love working through it. It was stressing me out and to
- 18:50be totally honest, I was being, I was feeling resentful towards
- 18:53this dog, which I don't love that feeling that feels like
- 18:56you're burnt out and it's. Just an icky feeling.
- 18:59Yeah, I hate that feeling because I always, and I know you
- 19:01do this where I'm sure we both do.
- 19:03When I have a training dog and I think about if this was my dog
- 19:06with someone else, how would I want them to be with my dog?
- 19:09Patient understanding, you know all the things.
- 19:12So this owner also, I told you they have a Malinois, which is
- 19:16really cool. And then they, he knows how to
- 19:19use the E collar. So I even remember at the drop
- 19:21off where he was like, I just need someone to introduce the E
- 19:23collar. And so I started thinking like,
- 19:27I'm, I know I'm going to be working through pushy barking
- 19:29stuff or whatever pushy stuff happens the next week.
- 19:35What if I just do like a mini go home session for whatever we've
- 19:38done so far? Send the dog home.
- 19:41Their setup is where the dog is in a kennel in their living room
- 19:47so they're not struggling with separation anxiety.
- 19:49It's like why? I mean for money, which is nice
- 19:53because I did refund everything up until the last day he was
- 19:56here, but it I just don't want to work through separation
- 20:01anxiety so it was fine. My gut was.
- 20:04Right. Being noisy in the crater, was
- 20:07he like trying to break out? Was he like fully stressing out?
- 20:10Like what was his? I think he was pretty stressed,
- 20:13like one day he had some diarrhea, which I think was from
- 20:16stress of being in the kennel. He was, he's just young and he
- 20:20barks even with the bark collar on.
- 20:23I I didn't like how it felt where it was more of me
- 20:27addressing the barking and and anxiety stuff where outside of
- 20:30the kennel he was great. He's so fun to work with, so I
- 20:34just didn't want another week of that.
- 20:37And I also feel like, to be totally honest, it's one of my
- 20:39weak points as an as a trainer. I don't well it.
- 20:41Doesn't have to be a weak point. It can also just be like, it's a
- 20:43very firm boundary because like to me, like I get that type of
- 20:47dog all the time and I, I don't consider them like if I can get
- 20:53them to be more quiet in the crate, even if it's like like
- 20:55the great day and I have right now, you'd probably consider her
- 20:58separation anxiety and I, I don't, but that's just like, I,
- 21:03I think that that's a great boundary that you have.
- 21:05I mean, you wouldn't, I don't know, But to me it's like she
- 21:09can be quiet in the crate and she will cycle down and she will
- 21:13be quiet. It's when she's done being in
- 21:16it. It's we're whining, we're
- 21:18barking. So like the last three or four
- 21:20nights we've brought the baby monitor up to our room, had her
- 21:23E collar like kept our ears open.
- 21:27And to me it's like, is that the most ideal thing?
- 21:29No, but I'm like it doesn't bother me that much.
- 21:33So that's just where it's. Would that just like be a no go?
- 21:37It bothers me so much. Yeah.
- 21:39And so it's like, you know that about you.
- 21:41And I think that's, I don't think that's a weak point.
- 21:43I think that's a strength. And is it maybe potentially
- 21:47something that's going to be like, I don't know, more dogs
- 21:51run into it, I don't know. And then it's like, well, this
- 21:53dog might not be a fit. Yeah, that's OK.
- 21:55Well. And I've worked through it
- 21:56before with other dogs. And so I don't know what it was
- 21:59about this dog where I think the biggest thing for me was it was
- 22:04taking up a lot of time, which again, like, we put in so much
- 22:07work to train dogs. There's always going to be stuff
- 22:08that, you know, hurdles we have to jump over.
- 22:12And it feels like work for sure. But it wasn't on the list of
- 22:15things they were struggling with.
- 22:17So then I always had that in the back of my head, like, oh man,
- 22:21like this is the biggest thing we're working through.
- 22:22He's it doesn't have reactivity. He's great on place, great on
- 22:25the walk now. Like his recall is pretty good
- 22:27for five days. And like I just, I, I was
- 22:31getting in that loop of I don't want to work through this.
- 22:34So, so yeah. And I think it was a good move
- 22:37because it all comes back to the owner for me and they're not
- 22:41super commutative, which again is fine.
- 22:44Not everyone. We've talked about this before.
- 22:46Some people are more introverted.
- 22:47People just communicate differently.
- 22:50But I reached out the day after just saying, hey, if you need
- 22:55any help, I'm here to help. Can you?
- 22:58Just because I think this is also great, like teaching and
- 23:00learning experience for other people.
- 23:02Can you talk through how you communicated this with the
- 23:04owner? Like, did you reach out?
- 23:06Did you give him kind of like a heads up that you're
- 23:08experiencing this in the crate and then, you know, decided to
- 23:11do the go home? Just can you bring us through?
- 23:13Yeah, how you communicated that you're going to send the dog
- 23:16home? I asked well because a couple of
- 23:19times I was open on social media saying that one night he was
- 23:23barking overnight. Totally normal.
- 23:25This happens because I also, I don't ever want to phrase it.
- 23:28You say this a lot too. I don't ever want to make an
- 23:30owner feel bad. I'm never going to share
- 23:32something on social media that's like blows an odor away or
- 23:35surprises them. But her response, the few times
- 23:39even with me saying that, she was like, Oh my gosh, I'm so
- 23:42sorry. And I'm like, no, it's not a
- 23:43big. Don't worry.
- 23:45Yeah. So it was on Day 5 where I was
- 23:48thinking about it on Day 4 where I was just having to watch the
- 23:51baby camera constantly. That's what it felt like no
- 23:54matter what I was doing. Fart caller, E caller.
- 23:58And so Friday morning, so this was day five with him.
- 24:03I texted Sarah and I said hey, can I get on a call with you to
- 24:06talk through some things? Which now I know I need to
- 24:09preface with everything's fine. Yes.
- 24:11We get on a phone call, talk things through, so she calls me
- 24:14right away and I just tell her I'm just very, very honest, not
- 24:18trying to sugarcoat things. My biggest thing was I don't
- 24:21know if this is in the best interest for him.
- 24:23If it's not something that you want me to work through.
- 24:25If they signed up, signed up with he's being pushy in the
- 24:28kennel, some slight separation anxiety, I would go into it with
- 24:32my the intention of that's something I'm going to work
- 24:36through. Or you'd say not the right fit.
- 24:38Exactly, yes, which I would have done so just being very honest
- 24:43with. And then the husband who has
- 24:46some time and he can just continue everything with their
- 24:49dog. And I feel like that's the best
- 24:51setup. And again, she kept apologizing
- 24:54and I was like, no, no, no. I mean, please understand that
- 24:57I'm not like I got to get rid of this dog right now.
- 24:59You can pick him up tomorrow if you want.
- 25:02It's not a big deal, but I think this is what is best for your
- 25:06dog. And I think when you phrase it
- 25:08like that, no owner is going to be like, whoa, I don't know.
- 25:12I think they appreciate that. And were they cool when they
- 25:15came to pick up and like? He was just a husband.
- 25:17He also was the only one that came for the drop off.
- 25:20He's a little bit more reserved. So.
- 25:23But again, I'm, I'm very open with asking questions or how are
- 25:29you feeling about this, that kind of thing.
- 25:31And he seemed totally fine and excited to get him back and work
- 25:35with them so. Good.
- 25:37Yeah. So that's how it went.
- 25:38So it ended. Up being a totally fine
- 25:40situation for everyone involved. Totally fine.
- 25:42And I felt like a weight was lifted just because it was a
- 25:46challenging case for me. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:47Totally. Well, and that's just like one
- 25:49of those things too, where if you like, even with like the
- 25:52bark collar, if you felt like you have to constantly sit there
- 25:55and watch. It's like if again, like you
- 25:58said, if you knew this is what you were signing up for, that's
- 26:00one thing. But then it's like you're
- 26:02probably thinking, OK, this is a young dog.
- 26:04We're going to be going. And you'd probably like, OK, I
- 26:06don't want to be taking him out all the time to go doing all
- 26:08these fun adventures when knowing putting him back in the
- 26:11crates just going to be like the spiral of it again.
- 26:14And you're like, start from fresh.
- 26:15And it's yeah, that type of stuff is just, it's not fun.
- 26:21It's like, not not the fun part of training at all.
- 26:24When I started doing this thing where it was like I would walk
- 26:29him before putting him in the kennel, which I think there is
- 26:31something too, you know, exercising a dog, not tiring
- 26:34them out necessarily, but I was doing that so he'd be good
- 26:37sometimes, but then pushy and then it was just a loop of
- 26:42correcting for things. That's how it felt.
- 26:44And I just. Didn't feel like it was really
- 26:45getting better. No.
- 26:46OK. So that's where I can say like
- 26:48the Great Dane is totally getting better, OK?
- 26:51Like obviously Dane wanted. For me before and that's where,
- 26:53yeah, that's what I was even telling the owner what I usually
- 26:56do, it usually gets better by day three or two.
- 26:59Well, and also the fact that you said.
- 27:01That the crate is in their living room, that dogs
- 27:03constantly watching human TV, meaning like they are constantly
- 27:08entertained even if they're in the crate.
- 27:10So that's the thing that's really tough and like,
- 27:13beforehand, you know, and I know it's not always going to work
- 27:16for people or they just might not do it.
- 27:18But the amount of time that I really feel like, not unfairly,
- 27:23but that like, yeah, puppies and young dogs need to spend in the
- 27:26crate without watching things and having constant toys.
- 27:31Oh. Or just.
- 27:33Like visuals is like put them in a room where they can get like
- 27:39actually quiet, no motion going on around them.
- 27:45Rest otherwise, these dogs, and I see it a lot.
- 27:48I, I don't know if you have experienced this, but our
- 27:52goldens in general, not even just the ones I have right now,
- 27:56much higher anxiety than what I've ever seen with goldens.
- 28:01Oh, OK, yeah. That's interesting for me, yes,
- 28:04based on this one and maybe your last.
- 28:05One and the last one I had, yeah.
- 28:07And the next two I have. Coming up, they all sound like
- 28:10high anxiety cases too. And when I say high anxiety,
- 28:12nothing like like to me, a dog that's constantly that's that's
- 28:18high anxiety, like even if they're like doing well and like
- 28:21doing all of the things. I think so many people are used
- 28:24to seeing dogs in that state. And to me, those are the ones
- 28:29where little Riggs, he's the one that is like around the same age
- 28:31as what Thor was. He's making such amazing
- 28:34progress, but in moments that he is stressed or anxious it's and
- 28:40he was when I actually talked with their owner for about an
- 28:44hour the other day just because she lives in Nashville.
- 28:47So I couldn't do a mid session with this here.
- 28:49She just got on a call and she's so awesome.
- 28:51Like literally dream dream owner.
- 28:53Both of the owners we have right now are really dream owners.
- 28:56So I think that also makes like working through some of Georgia,
- 28:58the Great Danes stuff like 100% like no big.
- 29:01Deal. Because literally.
- 29:02The owner is like, Oh my gosh, like yes, just bring a brat,
- 29:06which you don't need to apologize.
- 29:07But sometimes when I share some of those things of like showing
- 29:10a dog stress and struggling, I kind of worry that like I don't
- 29:13want the owner to be like, Oh my gosh, why is my dog so stressed
- 29:16there? Both of them have been like, you
- 29:19know, thank you so much for working through this.
- 29:21Like you've been, this has been so helpful.
- 29:23So little Riggs. He's he's just a goofy dude, but
- 29:27genetically, like you can feel in his bones genetically he's
- 29:31run and wound tight and like anxious and more whiny.
- 29:36And just like, luckily, one thing is he's so quiet in the
- 29:40crate, once in a while he'll like if his brother, his older
- 29:44brother's getting let out. But like, that's it.
- 29:47I'm like, OK, see that is the thing.
- 29:49To me, where I've had some dogs, one dog Jax, who is like a
- 29:52border collie mix or something Australian, I don't know.
- 29:55But whining outside of the kennel, which can like really
- 29:59rack my nerves. But amazing in the kennel.
- 30:02Like when you have a dog who's good in the kennel and you work
- 30:04in your space A lot. But for me it feels like I can
- 30:06turn off my trainer brain well, even right now.
- 30:09Before we start our podcast, I let all the dogs out and I was a
- 30:14little worried that Georgia was going to be whining and I know
- 30:16that me sitting up here like talking about you.
- 30:18Those are moments where we can talk about how patient we are
- 30:21with the dogs, which we are, but that would have made my blood
- 30:24pressure like rise if I heard her whining because it's like
- 30:27we're over a weekend that now to her is it's just FOMO for her at
- 30:31this point. She had already.
- 30:33I just did like a lengthy social with the dogs like she's been
- 30:37potty been fed like Mandy's here now, but I was like that.
- 30:42I know and luckily she was quiet, but I prepared myself to
- 30:46know like that's gonna annoy me. I think that's the thing that's
- 30:50fair too. It's like we can talk about how
- 30:51patient we are all day and we are, but it's like certain
- 30:54behaviors still are can be obnoxious.
- 30:56Yes Oh, that's the reality of. It, yeah, and I think.
- 30:59Sometimes, and I could be totally wrong and I do know all
- 31:02dogs are gonna give different experiences with US versus at
- 31:04home and blah blah blah, but like I think people are used to
- 31:08like dogs whining. I think 1. 1000% you're correct.
- 31:13Tap into. The comments like I, I think
- 31:17it's genuinely just like, oh, it's just a dog whining to me.
- 31:21I'm like, nervous system is off, like a little bit of whining.
- 31:24Here and there like. For instance, Bertie if will
- 31:28like close the door and like Casey's in the bathroom or
- 31:30something, she'll go do like like by the door like once I'm
- 31:33like go on and she's done, but like.
- 31:38Like constantly. I I don't know, I wouldn't want
- 31:41to live in my home. I'd be like, send me to camp,
- 31:44like what's going on? That's one thing that.
- 31:48Kind of set me over the edge where I was like, I just, I
- 31:51don't think I'm in the right state of mind to work with this
- 31:53dog. We work out in our gym, which is
- 31:55right next to our kennel room. And no matter what I was doing
- 31:59with the E collar, with the bark collar, he kept like barking and
- 32:04being super whiny and I was getting so frustrated.
- 32:07I had to put my noise cancelling headphones on and afterwards I
- 32:11was like, Oh my gosh, I was like, Bobby, this is as if like
- 32:14you have someone that you work with a client in the gym with us
- 32:19just sitting there talking to you and you can't like, 'cause I
- 32:22was trying to ignore it. But so I was like, well, maybe
- 32:25we'll just go to the Y and work out.
- 32:27And so it was kind of like that. It was, this is like my, I love
- 32:31being here and working out in our gym.
- 32:32So but a note about this is nothing against his owners.
- 32:37And again, so I think whenever we share things, well, it's like
- 32:41what you said before, people are adults, they can take it however
- 32:43they want. And I don't care.
- 32:45No, I do, but I don't, I don't care.
- 32:48But I think if his owners were more commutative and they were
- 32:54super nice, super on board and like one thing his owner said
- 32:58when he dropped him off was we're probably the most laid
- 33:01back owners you'll ever meet. And I was, that should have been
- 33:03something where I was like, huh, At first it was like, oh, cool,
- 33:05great. Yeah.
- 33:07But. Then it turned into like.
- 33:08Just not really talking or like and that's not your.
- 33:11Dream owner? No, exactly like.
- 33:13Your dream owner to. Be interactive not is my dog OK,
- 33:18but but you love when they and same with me like hurt the
- 33:21stories or give feedback of love seeing this or you know.
- 33:26Thank you for sharing. I didn't know that like we love
- 33:28that love. So I think if.
- 33:30They were a little bit more leaning towards that, just like
- 33:32you said, how your two owners are so amazing.
- 33:34Amazing. Yeah, it makes a big difference.
- 33:36So a huge difference. So any owners listening?
- 33:40So let's let's give you some some ground rules here.
- 33:43Don't be annoying. Like don't be like, how did
- 33:45Fluffy sleep last night? Don't worry, we'll have a few
- 33:50rules for you. So you can't be annoying, but
- 33:52you can't be too quiet. You can't be too this, you can't
- 33:55be too that. We're not actually that busy.
- 33:56Yeah, it's just follow the rules.
- 33:58Just follow the rules, it's not that.
- 33:59Hard well, and I think that's the one thing about.
- 34:01How we said, like people that don't like working with people,
- 34:04I mean trainers. Yeah.
- 34:05You learn so much. It's been like a master class in
- 34:09human communication, working with dog owners.
- 34:12Yep. And I have these two.
- 34:14Dogs and it's actually hilarious and I know that one of the
- 34:16owners definitely listens to the podcast so I don't think she'll
- 34:19care that I use this as an example.
- 34:21He's in for boarding right now actually just dropped him off at
- 34:23the groomer this morning. Harrison the little crazy eyed
- 34:26buddy. Yes, he's.
- 34:28One of my. Favorite.
- 34:29Literally Casey's obsessed. We are we love that dog to
- 34:34death, but he's one of the most annoying dogs in the entire
- 34:37world from the standpoint of he gives his mother a hell of a
- 34:44time and are there things of course, like their their
- 34:48relationship is so different than ours is with him.
- 34:50Like he's the center of their world from a same point of
- 34:54because he makes himself the center of the world.
- 34:56Like Harrison's presence is like you can't ignore it.
- 35:00If you ignore it, he demands you pay attention.
- 35:03So then you try and whining, yes.
- 35:05And like barks. Back and like mom's trying to
- 35:08correct for it and he's just like F you mom like it's so it's
- 35:12kind of I even told her I'm like you're in a toxic relationship
- 35:16like and I know you're trying so hard with things but then
- 35:18there's also like still her dog. It's still like picking him up
- 35:22like he's a baby, like loving on him because he's also, he earns
- 35:27that as well. It's so tough.
- 35:28And then I have another dog who's also a small dog and both
- 35:31of the owners are like prime examples of they work so hard
- 35:37with their dogs. They try so hard.
- 35:39Their dogs just really have a tougher time with them of they
- 35:43don't. The dogs are like these little
- 35:47dogs that just have this huge personality.
- 35:49They they're not buying into what their owners have to say.
- 35:52They like take me so seriously, even though I'm just like Harry,
- 35:56knock it off and he just like stops where if mom were to be
- 36:01like Harrison. No, it's it's just like
- 36:06disrespect. So it's tough because it's like
- 36:10I can't change that relationship between these two owners.
- 36:12This other one that I'm thinking about is little guy.
- 36:15His name is Lucky and he's at one of the puggles that I
- 36:17recently trained the all Black 1.
- 36:19I don't know if you remember him.
- 36:20Absolutely precious. Also owners that work their
- 36:23arses off with their dog. They're actually coming both the
- 36:26owners. They're have really natural like
- 36:29awesome handling skills. They're both coming to shadow me
- 36:31in April and I'm like, I'm thinking.
- 36:33In my head I'm like, are you coming to?
- 36:34Shadow just cause your dog is this like hard for you?
- 36:38Or like. Maybe they'll dabble in helping
- 36:40some people where they're from, but those ones are tough because
- 36:45it's like even if you follow everything your trainer is
- 36:49telling you to do, like the relationship's still going to
- 36:53feel different with the owner versus how it's going to feel
- 36:55with us. And I hate almost telling
- 36:59Harrison's owner that, like, she'll be like, is he like, I'm
- 37:02so sorry? Is he behaving?
- 37:03And I'm like, I almost hate to tell you this.
- 37:06He's being perfect. Like we're not having one issue
- 37:10like and she's like I she's like, I don't know what to do
- 37:13with them. I'm like, just leave him here.
- 37:14We we like kid about how we're like, well, we're just going to
- 37:16adopt him because he generally loves being a kennel room dog
- 37:20because he's just backward boarding.
- 37:21He's just like, he loves living like that kind of lifestyle.
- 37:28And realistically, he he lives literally this kid has like the
- 37:32best life. They had a home in Wisconsin and
- 37:35Montana. They're moving full time to
- 37:37Montana. He gets to basically just be off
- 37:39leash his whole life, go to the horse barn, go on flights, all
- 37:43these things. And it's great as that sounds as
- 37:45sometimes it's like that's almost too much for a dog like
- 37:48him, even though he is friendly, he's social, he's all of these
- 37:52things. It's like it almost makes him
- 37:54spiral. So you must wish you could sit
- 37:57down with certain dogs and just be like, look at the life you
- 37:59get. You shape up.
- 38:02But yeah, I don't even know where I was going with that.
- 38:04Basically talking about like, you can follow everything and
- 38:08still have a completely different relationship with your
- 38:11dog than what your trainer has. Sometimes I feel like I don't
- 38:14even know how to help at times 'cause I'm like, I, I can't set
- 38:18that behavior up. It's like, Kate, I swear I'm not
- 38:21lying to him. I'm like, I know you're not.
- 38:22You've sent me videos and he's an absolute assassin.
- 38:26Well, it's like the owner I was talking about who her dog bit
- 38:31someone and she's actually going to drive up here next Friday for
- 38:37like in person help, which I'm excited about.
- 38:40And it's it's that's a perfect example of one of those things
- 38:43where I know if he lived with me, he'd be great.
- 38:46Like he would just, but he's also super great with them, but
- 38:50I just think the the leniency when it's your only dog, it's
- 38:53like it just can't help but seep into your relationship where for
- 38:57us, we're probably a little bit more structured with training
- 39:00dogs. Yes, and also like.
- 39:02I think the thing that a lot of people do is even if they're
- 39:07giving their dog a little bit of time in the crate during the
- 39:10day, they're not getting enough. No, no one's.
- 39:12No. One is unless they're like,
- 39:14especially people that like work from home or you know, are
- 39:17retired or whatever, they understandably they're like,
- 39:21we're home, let's have our dog out.
- 39:23But like some dogs just cannot handle it and you're going to
- 39:27see it seep into the relationship.
- 39:29So like, I'm just using Harrison as an example because he's here
- 39:32right now. He gets a long walk every day.
- 39:36He gets play time every day. He's getting treadmill time
- 39:38every day. He's also getting multiple hours
- 39:41in his crate every single day and overnight that it's just
- 39:45like it's, you know, so structured that it's like he
- 39:48doesn't really even have room to be annoying or like naughty.
- 39:53So he's like, OK, cool, I'm I've got it.
- 39:56I'm figuring out the routine. I come in, I don't pay attention
- 39:59to him at all. I'm not even saying hi to him,
- 40:01let him out of the crate. I don't even say hi to him until
- 40:03we're like out of the kennel room in the yard because he
- 40:06can't handle it. I know that about him.
- 40:08Certain dogs can handle it. So it's just dogs.
- 40:12The kennel stuff. Is something that people just
- 40:14don't really think about and I was thinking about like the
- 40:17younger Golden and how I know having like a puppy or young dog
- 40:23has felt not easy for me in the past, but kind of because of
- 40:28great time I just think. So many people do.
- 40:31Not lean into that and it is a lifesaver for your sanity.
- 40:34And it also creates a dog who could be on their own.
- 40:37And it's just the anxious dogs that are like don't have an off
- 40:41switch in the kennel. To me is it's like I can't be in
- 40:46a room with a dog, especially a training dog or a kennel dog or
- 40:49boarding dog and not address it Like it's just, I think a lot of
- 40:52people just let it go. Like with Thor Golden, who I
- 40:54sent home, I think they probably heard him barking or whining and
- 40:58it's just that's what it is to have a dog, which is so.
- 41:01Different. How we would do it, It's yeah,
- 41:03it's. It's truly wild and I don't know
- 41:07why I feel like it's I feel like it's gotten worse.
- 41:12Like I see more of it these days, which isn't shocking
- 41:15because again, more people are working from home and more
- 41:17people are, you know, not that this completely, you know,
- 41:21changes it because neither of us have kids, but you know, a lot
- 41:24of people also are not having kids.
- 41:26So the dog becomes like full time, you know, everything is
- 41:31about the dog and it's like we just need to make not everything
- 41:34about the dog and then you can do more with your dog.
- 41:37Yeah, seriously, can I, can I tell you something I've been
- 41:39thinking about? Yeah.
- 41:41OK, Yeah, fine. Look here.
- 41:43Feel. Like I'm trying to get.
- 41:44OK, I did my hair, first of all, 'cause last time, and it's
- 41:46still, oh, sorry, it still looks a little weird.
- 41:48No, it looks great. Four days.
- 41:50In I have a hat on because you don't want to see what's under.
- 41:53It's it's hair wash day. Oh, OK.
- 41:55Well, it looks amazing. I'll show you if anyone.
- 42:01Wants to see my conehead. Go to minute 41.
- 42:08Wow, thanks. For that, that's so nice of you
- 42:10to share with us. Yeah, you're welcome.
- 42:13OK, so. I was thinking about because I
- 42:16watched Top Chef, which anyone else who watches it, I mean, I
- 42:20watch it over and over. It's like one of my comfort
- 42:23shows. And it's where these chefs, they
- 42:25come together for a competition and they compete to be Top Chef.
- 42:29No way. Top Chef is where they.
- 42:34Compete to be Top Chef. Mind blown.
- 42:40Continue. I'm intrigued, you know.
- 42:45How when I'm talking, sometimes I just don't even think about
- 42:47what I'm saying. I just, I love that about you.
- 42:49I get that. A+B.
- 42:51Equals yeah, OK, so but one thing I always notice that they
- 42:55do and I'm constantly jealous of is they'll have like really well
- 42:59known chefs come onto the show as judges or whatever.
- 43:03And the the chefs who are competing, they're like, Oh my
- 43:05gosh, she's so amazing or she's so amazing.
- 43:08Or they speak of these chefs as if like they are people they
- 43:13want to aspire to be like. And it just made me think about
- 43:16how I wish I had like a trainer, someone in the dog training
- 43:22industry or world that I aspired to be like.
- 43:26And when I was thinking about this, because I respect you and
- 43:28what you do so much, I think you were the only person where I'm
- 43:30like, Oh my gosh, that's so cool.
- 43:32Or I still would like to come to your shadow program And you
- 43:34think that I should just come and take video and hang out,
- 43:38which I do just want to hang out.
- 43:39But you're so good at that. It's like so cool to watch
- 43:41someone who is just really good at what they do.
- 43:44But I came across a podcast with some other trainers and it's,
- 43:49and again, nothing against men. We love men.
- 43:51We're married to them, love them.
- 43:53It's older male dog trainers. And I was like, I just don't.
- 43:57There was a time when I, there were a few older trainers who I
- 44:01looked up to, but I really wish there was like a strong woman
- 44:05dog trainer that I knew of. Maybe they're out there and I
- 44:08just don't know that I actually wanted to aspire to be like, or
- 44:12I see what they do and I'm like, oh, wow.
- 44:14I, I love how they do that because it's almost always just
- 44:17either the dog training or it's dog training that I don't do
- 44:21whatever it specializes in or they don't.
- 44:25I'm very drawn to the creative side of things.
- 44:28And I don't see that so much with other trainers.
- 44:30Like I know you do so much of that, which is so cool and some
- 44:32other trainers, but you know what I mean?
- 44:34Like just having I I do. But I don't feel that way.
- 44:38I know exactly, no, I know exactly what you mean not like
- 44:44and I used to, I definitely used to, but I see more of like now
- 44:48like lifestyle people. And when I say lifestyle people,
- 44:50it's just, you know, content creators or something, which
- 44:53again, everything is just a highlight reel.
- 44:55But I aspire more to seeing like the the balance of a working
- 45:02woman, also the balancing of life and boundaries with social
- 45:08media and health within themselves, whether that's
- 45:14physically, mentally, that I aspire more towards that kind of
- 45:19stuff. Now where like.
- 45:21I see stuff like that. Where it's like, OK, I, you
- 45:24know, I love seeing other women be entrepreneurs and I try to
- 45:30like, I think not necessarily aspire to be, but that's more of
- 45:35the influence that I see of like, I love how they're sharing
- 45:38that or I love how they incorporate that into their
- 45:42life. Or which is so funny that you
- 45:44say that because I feel like even though we're best friends
- 45:47and like we're at the same age, I feel like we have that in each
- 45:50other. I I know and I do too.
- 45:52Yeah, I totally feel that way. Like I like.
- 45:55Even you like I've obviously sent a dog home, but like.
- 45:59I I know I. Would not be able to like
- 46:03financially be like I have, you know, one dog in right now, I'm
- 46:08going to send them home and not have like another dog coming in.
- 46:11And not saying that that's like it's just we're in different
- 46:16situations from a standpoint of it's Casey and I's sole main
- 46:19income, not sole but main income.
- 46:22So I like look at it that way. But you know, even just like.
- 46:28I love that you'll share. And I don't share these things
- 46:31because it doesn't mean I don't do them.
- 46:32But like, you'll share like you went out and got breakfast with
- 46:35your mom. Yeah, I wouldn't.
- 46:37I don't necessarily share those things on a work day because I
- 46:43have 5 dogs in the kennel room and I don't want.
- 46:46And I've gotten so much better about this.
- 46:47But I'll think, like all the owner's gonna think I'm not
- 46:50spending enough time with their dog.
- 46:52Oh. Yeah, I think he would think
- 46:54like that. I, I I.
- 46:56Don't as much anymore, but it's still lingers in there.
- 46:59It definitely still does because also it also depends what dogs I
- 47:03have in every single owner of dogs that are in my care right
- 47:06now are amazing owners, but they're also very involved
- 47:10owners, which is amazing, but also very obsessed with their
- 47:13dogs owners. So it's like I know they want to
- 47:16see their dog. And so not that I think that
- 47:18they would ever be like, Kate's not doing enough for the dogs
- 47:21because I know we're doing. Yeah, but I.
- 47:25Think interesting is you don't have to share that like do you
- 47:29do you wish you could share that or I actually?
- 47:32I say I. Kind of love that you keep those
- 47:35things to yourself. There are certain things
- 47:39personally. I do not share, Yeah.
- 47:41And I very much keep to myself, not only just because like I
- 47:46feel like people, there's certain things that I'm like,
- 47:48it's not that I wouldn't share because I don't think people
- 47:49should know or anything like that, but there's just some
- 47:52things that I want to keep for me.
- 47:54Yeah. And like, yeah.
- 47:55So there's stuff like that. Like, for instance, like time
- 47:58with my niece all once in a while share a few things, but
- 48:01like, respectfully, I don't like to like it's she's not my child
- 48:04to like share her face on a public platform and stuff like
- 48:07that. And like also those moments are
- 48:09I don't, I barely have my phone out when she's around.
- 48:12Like literally to capture her doing something cute.
- 48:16And then like, you know, personal stuff with like, like
- 48:19our life and even stuff with like roadie, like I've shared a
- 48:22lot about it, but I don't share the day in and day out like what
- 48:25life genuinely looks like with a dog with such high care and you
- 48:29know, stuff like that. And there's just certain things
- 48:30that it's like could I share it? Could something potential
- 48:34potentially help someone else, But I'm also not looking for
- 48:37everything I put out to be something that's going to
- 48:40benefit another person. Yes, if that makes.
- 48:43Sense, yes. And I'd love that you do.
- 48:45That and you're, you've, you've also you kind of helped me think
- 48:48about this differently because when I was originally thinking
- 48:50of it, I was like, oh man, it'd be so cool to have.
- 48:53I'm just going to say an older female trainer in our industry
- 48:57that I looked up to and aspired to be like.
- 48:59And but I think there's also a lot of power and not having that
- 49:02and looking outside of the dog training industry.
- 49:04It's just like when I really when I so Bobby just showed me a
- 49:09video which we should share the next trainer in you where it's
- 49:12Oh, you, you had your first training dog eight years ago
- 49:14today, and he showed me a video that he took.
- 49:17So at the time I really wanted to shadow a local trainer who to
- 49:24me was well known and she didn't offer it to local people.
- 49:28And I, I always felt like so like like if I just could do
- 49:32that, that'd be so cool. Maybe she could be my mentor.
- 49:35And I actually a year later or something asked her to
- 49:37breakfast, got breakfast with her.
- 49:40And it was a little bit different than I expected, like
- 49:42just personality wise. So anyway, but I think it's
- 49:46helped us. I'm speaking for you.
- 49:49It's it helped me figure things out on my own and go through the
- 49:52crappy stuff and pick myself back up.
- 49:55And so I think you're right because I do have quote UN quote
- 49:58mentors that are outside of the dog training world that I'll
- 50:00never meet probably. But writers, Sarah Blakely, who
- 50:05created Spanx, she has a class on master class, the master
- 50:08class app, if anyone has it, which is amazing.
- 50:11So yeah, I, I think so. That's interesting that you
- 50:13even. Say that because I would not
- 50:15think that you would have said that.
- 50:18What like. You would want.
- 50:20A like older female trainer to like look up to inspire to be.
- 50:25Well, I just not inspired to be. But like to find.
- 50:28Influence and like that's surprising to me to hear really
- 50:32yeah like I I always feel like you pull so much of your stuff
- 50:35from outside of the dog training world.
- 50:37I do and myself included, but I used to definitely follow like
- 50:42every single trainer and, you know, do shadow programs and
- 50:46those things are all so still so great.
- 50:47I'm just in a different season of my own growth and stuff like
- 50:51that. But I, yeah, it's just
- 50:54interesting 'cause I didn't think that you would feel that
- 50:56way, 'cause I know you've always like, we haven't always loved
- 50:58the dog training side of things, but you like it a lot.
- 51:02It's just not the storytelling that you love.
- 51:04So I couldn't, I couldn't see you and correct me if I'm wrong,
- 51:09being like, I'm gonna go to a week long dog training shadow
- 51:14with another trainer. No, it would be yours.
- 51:17Yeah, but I like I literally. Could not see you doing that.
- 51:20I think it was just the feeling that I.
- 51:22Got when it's like envy of like a romanticized version of what I
- 51:25would think, like watching this chef show and just seeing how
- 51:30they love these other chefs and they're like superstars to them.
- 51:33Yeah. And so to me, it's like there's
- 51:36like a, there's a negative and a positive to it because I don't,
- 51:39I'm not gonna say who it is, but I know there were a couple of
- 51:43older trainers. I say older 'cause they were
- 51:45older than nuts then yeah, yeah. Who I wanted to kind of, they
- 51:52were who I was aspiring to be like.
- 51:54And then you learn more about people and you just realize
- 51:56you're in a different season or want to do things differently.
- 51:59And so, but when I see these chefs who look at these people
- 52:02like, Oh my gosh. Like I, I, part of me
- 52:05romanticizes that like, oh, it'd be so cool.
- 52:07But I think there is also something to that where it's
- 52:10like, because I've done it before, I've I've seen other
- 52:15trainers and I wanted to be like them, but then I find out, Oh
- 52:17no, I don't want to be like them.
- 52:18I kind of want to be like myself and find out what that looks
- 52:22like. Like I was just very inspired by
- 52:25a cookbook yesterday. Really it has no.
- 52:28Ties to dog. Training, but design wise, I
- 52:31thought it was really cool. So yeah, you're right.
- 52:33Well, and I also, we also are. That for a lot of people right
- 52:37now, but you are too. Well, thank you and I I would.
- 52:40Agree with that. Like I talked to a lot of
- 52:42trainers and especially I'm still so young, but like it's so
- 52:45interesting like now you're seeing the other younger crew
- 52:48that was like us almost 10 years ago that were like literally in
- 52:53the phase that we are. And I do feel like, you know, I
- 52:56talked to a lot of them on virtual calls or my shadow
- 52:58programs or the trainer and you, and that's a really cool and
- 53:02weird position to be in because they're still like, we're
- 53:04growing and learning every day as well.
- 53:08But yeah, I think that's cool. Like I, I think it is like I, I
- 53:12agree that I'm consistently also looking for like things that I
- 53:16want to let into my orbit more and, and, but also that comes
- 53:21with a lot of things I don't want to let in.
- 53:23Yes, and the clarity. With that for sure, yeah, yeah,
- 53:26yeah. Oh, that's so.
- 53:27Interesting. Yeah.
- 53:28Well, and it's something like, you know, I don't know who said
- 53:30this quote. It's a very popular 1, so
- 53:32forgive me, but be the change you wish to see.
- 53:35And I remember thinking that when she wouldn't let me shadow
- 53:37this other trainer, which turned out to be great, that was good
- 53:40for me, I think in the long run. But it's kind of like, create
- 53:44the resources you wish you had as an owner.
- 53:46That's something I believe in so strongly.
- 53:48Like anything that I create creatively, create creatively, I
- 53:53don't care, OK? I don't care either, so.
- 53:55It comes from a place of this is what I would want, yes.
- 54:00And so I think there's also something about that which is so
- 54:03cool that like that we can inspire other trainers who need
- 54:08someone to look up to. Like, yeah, that is, I think
- 54:11that is cool, that is. The Bethania in you.
- 54:17Bethania. Oh, Bethana, no.
- 54:19One knows this. Yeah, I like that better
- 54:21actually. What is it actually?
- 54:23Bethana, Bethana. I've always thought it.
- 54:25Was Bethania love that. OK, so her alter ego.
- 54:29Is Bethan Bethana apparently, but I thought it was Bethania.
- 54:34Well, I like Bethania better. Yeah, it's just like when you're
- 54:36like probably drinking and like acting a little different.
- 54:41Yeah, mine is. Marie, because that's my middle
- 54:43name. Oh, OK, that makes sense.
- 54:46Yeah, Marie, you should be like. Catania.
- 54:48I mean, I'll. I'll.
- 54:50Take on Katanya Brenda was nice to me this morning.
- 54:53I had a 91 sleep score 91.9. Which is wild, honestly.
- 54:58Because I felt like I flipped and flopped last night.
- 55:02I think sometimes it just. Gets it wrong.
- 55:04They're wrong sometimes. Lean into that.
- 55:07That's nice. Yeah, I'm going to lean into was
- 55:08a 90. One, maybe it just decided to
- 55:10give me something with this, like I woke up in a funk.
- 55:13So it's like, well, don't worry, you got a 91 sleep score.
- 55:17Brenda. Yeah.
- 55:18Did I tell you? Did I already?
- 55:19Say this in the beginning that Casey left for Phoenix this
- 55:21morning. No.
- 55:22Yeah. So wondering why he didn't pop
- 55:24in in the. Beginning.
- 55:25Yeah, Yeah. Totally.
- 55:27Well, yeah, Shannon. No.
- 55:30No, his parents are down there for three months.
- 55:34And since we were literally, I mean, today was the day we're
- 55:36supposed to be leaving Florida. Yeah.
- 55:39And so I had told him, I'm like, this week's a little bit
- 55:43lighter. I'm like, why don't you go get
- 55:44some additional vitamin D? We had like all of his scans and
- 55:46stuff yesterday. So he was just like, this was
- 55:52probably right after we got back from Florida.
- 55:54I'm like, why don't you see if they are cool with you coming
- 55:56down, See what flights are. So he's leaving today.
- 55:58He'll be back on Saturday. Oh, nice.
- 56:00And I asked. Him yesterday when he was.
- 56:02Packing. I'm like, what's the weather
- 56:03like? And he just was like, because he
- 56:06knew what our weather looked like.
- 56:07And I'm like, it's like, I'm happy you're gonna go experience
- 56:09to tell me he's like 90s and sunny and I'm like.
- 56:14Hey, well, don't. Forget it's my birthday next
- 56:18week, so be really nice to me. Are we all going to do anything
- 56:22special? Hang out with family so on my.
- 56:24Actual birthday we're going to go to.
- 56:28This is something that you would probably love to do.
- 56:30It's this place called Sur La Table, and we are going with
- 56:34Steph and AJ and it's a they give you a menu and the chef
- 56:39brings you through and you make all the food.
- 56:43Yeah, we'll, we'll see how it is.
- 56:46I've I've been wanting to do it. It's like a 2 hour thing.
- 56:49So you literally make like 3 or 4 what's the word courses and
- 56:57like, so I hope I, I'm either gonna hate it 'cause I don't
- 57:00wanna like make it myself or I'm gonna love it.
- 57:02But I think I'll, I think it'll be really fun.
- 57:04That's so fun something. A little bit different too,
- 57:06because. You know, we always just like go
- 57:08out to a dinner and stuff, which is great as well, but it'll be
- 57:11fun. What is the area in?
- 57:13I was drawing a blank yesterday when I was trying to explain it
- 57:17in Italy that we want to go to Oh.
- 57:21Oh, it's like such an Instagramable thing.
- 57:24I know. Why am I?
- 57:25Why? Can't I think about it?
- 57:28Oh. No, for sure you would know.
- 57:30Something people are yelling at. I know two or three now.
- 57:34It's like the prettiest. Backdrop.
- 57:36We have to look it up. Look.
- 57:37It up now I'm. Oh my gosh, it's not Positono
- 57:42Bay. That's not even real, no.
- 57:46With a. Lady Most Amalfi.
- 57:50Coast, Amalfi Coast. So.
- 57:54It's this one's called the tour of Amalfi is what we're doing.
- 57:57So it's like starts with like a cauliflower bean type salad
- 58:03thing that we're making and then we're making homemade like wood
- 58:06fire pizzas and then some like homemade meatballs and red sauce
- 58:10and then make what they give you the menu before.
- 58:14Yeah, they tell you what we're going to be.
- 58:15Making and then because then you get to pick like because there
- 58:18was a couple of different nights that we were looking at and I'm
- 58:21like this one just looks like also like vibey, but stuff we
- 58:25wouldn't make at home. That's a pizza.
- 58:27Like obviously we'd make pizza, but like the type of like bean
- 58:31cauliflower salad thing that I was like, I would never make
- 58:33that. Like, think of it like.
- 58:36And then we're making homemade limoncellos sorbet.
- 58:42That should be fun, exciting. Yes, well, it'll be fun too
- 58:46doing. It with Steph and AJ because AJ
- 58:48actually out of all of us is the best chef but he's also used to
- 58:52like making it as he like as his own way.
- 58:56So it'll be interesting to see like following instructions.
- 58:58Meanwhile Steph is like not as big of a chef but like follows
- 59:01instructions to AT and then and then Casey and I kind of fall
- 59:05somewhere in the middle. Yeah, we have to.
- 59:07Next time we're together, I need to talk with Steph about her
- 59:10Virgo Ness. You guys are complete.
- 59:12Opposite in your Virgos which is hilarious I you being a Virgo
- 59:17and maybe I just don't know enough about Virgos.
- 59:19You don't seem like a Virgo to me.
- 59:20I know you do with your. Creative stuff.
- 59:23Though I'm very meticulous. With the creative stuff, yeah,
- 59:27for sure. But I my moon leans or not leans
- 59:30my I don't know if this is right Moon or sun.
- 59:32I don't know which is which but rising moon or?
- 59:34Something suddenly. It's in Scorpio, OK, I don't
- 59:39know what. My.
- 59:39Well, it doesn't. Even matter if you told me, I
- 59:42wouldn't even know. I'm a Pisces but I don't know
- 59:44what. My moon is.
- 59:46I looked that up. I asked.
- 59:47Chachi BT about Virgos and Pisces and why we're such good
- 59:50friends. And it was like, oh, Bethany, I
- 59:52love you asked me this. And this makes so much sense.
- 59:58I actually have. Heard that Pisces and Virgos are
- 1:00:00really good friends. Well, you have two of them, so
- 1:00:03I. Know yeah, that's true.
- 1:00:06Can you hear the vacuum? No.
- 1:00:08OK, good. That means my mic.
- 1:00:09Works. I wrote on the list for Mandy
- 1:00:11down there to vacuum the rugs and I was thinking, I'm like,
- 1:00:15I'm recording a podcast, why would I have her vacuum?
- 1:00:18But it's OK, you cannot hear. It oh good.
- 1:00:21Did you get any questions? On the question box 1.
- 1:00:28Perfect, we would love. I don't know. 5 to 8 would be
- 1:00:31nice, yeah, you know. We're growing.
- 1:00:34Someone asked if we ever do events on the West Coast.
- 1:00:39No. Do you want to?
- 1:00:44Host us. She's she's an owner, but I
- 1:00:46don't. Know how that works?
- 1:00:48We're. Like if a trainer has you there,
- 1:00:50I don't know, 'cause how we do it, it feels it's more of like
- 1:00:53an intimate thing, like, you know, sitting in a cozy area,
- 1:00:57Like literally. Well, and that's different.
- 1:00:59It's our trainer news, not the not the fact that no owners
- 1:01:03could come, but like it probably if you're an owner not looking
- 1:01:07to do anything outside of being an owner, the trainer news is
- 1:01:11not for you. So like that event that we do
- 1:01:13together is the only one and it's not a dog training, quote
- 1:01:17UN quote, you know, seminar for owners and it's in the comfort
- 1:01:22of both of our homes. So no, we don't, but doesn't
- 1:01:27mean we won't someday. I know you never know this.
- 1:01:29Is the thing about time, like it's so weird.
- 1:01:32It's crazy. Like, just think about how long
- 1:01:34have you been doing this? Like 9 years?
- 1:01:36Yeah, like. Officially full time 2019 but
- 1:01:39started the business in 2017 OK, so if you.
- 1:01:43Think back on everything that's happened over that time.
- 1:01:46To me, it's wild. Like in the moment, it feels
- 1:01:48like, oh man, I'd really love for this to happen or this or I
- 1:01:53don't know. But when you look back, you're
- 1:01:54like, wow, that happened. Feels like so quickly, like a
- 1:01:57year feels quick. Well, the thing that was
- 1:01:59interesting. Is yeah, yesterday or the day
- 1:02:02before, an owner tagged me in a video of her three-year old son
- 1:02:05walking one of the dogs that I trained.
- 1:02:08Yeah. It was so precious.
- 1:02:09And I was like, wait a second when?
- 1:02:12They came to pick up. That dog, their son was a week
- 1:02:16old, a newborn. I literally felt like I trained
- 1:02:19that dog a year ago and I literally responded back to her.
- 1:02:22I was like, how do you have a three-year old?
- 1:02:24He was yeah, they, I think that they had him a little bit
- 1:02:27earlier than what they expected. So they're like, can we bring
- 1:02:29our one week old? I'm like, of course I'm not
- 1:02:31like, yes, what? Find a babysitter for your one
- 1:02:36week old. But yeah, I was like, holy crap,
- 1:02:40three years I and this kids walking, walking the dog like
- 1:02:43what? The owner is actually the dog
- 1:02:47that I had told you reminded me of.
- 1:02:49Was it your dog Hazel, that you just yeah, that that owner.
- 1:02:55But that wasn't the dog. That was one of their other
- 1:02:57dogs. But that had like the most one
- 1:03:00of the most like skittish, nervous dogs I've ever worked
- 1:03:03with was that one. And I'm like, how is that three
- 1:03:06years ago? It's crazy.
- 1:03:08I. Mean I think.
- 1:03:10Oh, go ahead. Well, I was just thinking about
- 1:03:12I. I don't know.
- 1:03:13So we just had our fifth trainer in you and remember and it so it
- 1:03:18must have been like 3 years ago or longer, longer maybe like 4
- 1:03:21years. Oh my gosh.
- 1:03:22Where we were sitting on back porch coming up with like what
- 1:03:27to put in the workbook, what to name it.
- 1:03:29What to name it? Yes.
- 1:03:32Yeah. She's so crazy, so crazy and
- 1:03:35time. I know it's a.
- 1:03:37Thing. Well, what's going on in your
- 1:03:38day then? Are you, do you have any dogs?
- 1:03:41Boarding dogs, OK. With boarding dogs the next
- 1:03:45month, gardening. I love that for you.
- 1:03:50I was just replaced the baking. So gardening and well, well, I
- 1:03:55know you like that saying, well, it's funny or whatever, doing
- 1:03:58nothing. But no, I was just, I felt.
- 1:04:01And this was also where it was a good cue, like reminder of
- 1:04:05paying attention to my gut, even though I had to refund the money
- 1:04:08kind of a thing, part of it, but I felt like exhausted after.
- 1:04:14And so just trying to recuperate, which is so crazy.
- 1:04:16Like sometimes that makes me feel like not, I don't ever
- 1:04:22question that I'm not a good enough trainer.
- 1:04:24But sometimes with stuff like that, I'm like, shouldn't I like
- 1:04:27be OK working through stuff like this by now?
- 1:04:30Like working through like pushy kind of stuff where I feel like
- 1:04:34to, and I think other trainers can probably relate to this
- 1:04:37where there's certain things that pop up where it's like, oh
- 1:04:40man, like why, why is that so challenging for me?
- 1:04:43Where I feel like, if I'm honest, like I feel like you
- 1:04:46probably have a better grip on anxious stuff in the kennel
- 1:04:51where I it is so triggering to me.
- 1:04:53And it's, it's not just triggering because triggering
- 1:04:55can be sometimes seem like you get like pissed off or
- 1:04:58something. It's more it drains me.
- 1:05:00Like I just feel like I absorb the energy and it just takes out
- 1:05:03of me. Well, also like.
- 1:05:05Your tolerance overtime could just change like and that's OK.
- 1:05:10Like I even think about that with dogs, like Birdie, for
- 1:05:13example, she used to be my, you know, especially at our old
- 1:05:16house, loved playing with all the new dogs and loved, you
- 1:05:20know, roughhousing with them and stuff like that.
- 1:05:22And like as she's gotten older, she's still like can be very
- 1:05:25social around other dogs, but she's more of the like, let's
- 1:05:28just sniff with each other. Let's I don't, we don't need to
- 1:05:30play. We don't need to like deeply
- 1:05:32interact. And it's like her tolerance has
- 1:05:34just changed. And I just respect that with
- 1:05:35her. And so like, even if you is it
- 1:05:39your tolerance to it just might be more like, I know this is a
- 1:05:42non negotiable for me and it doesn't make me feel good and
- 1:05:45I'm not going to like budget with it.
- 1:05:47And it's also OK to not be great at something like like true.
- 1:05:51Like it's OK that it's like working through the crate stuff
- 1:05:53is not your and you don't like it.
- 1:05:56So then it's like, why would you also try to get a lot better at
- 1:05:59something you truly don't like? Oh my gosh.
- 1:06:02I don't like crate. Stuff like it, it's, yeah,
- 1:06:05absolutely annoying to me. I just also think that I have a
- 1:06:09different level of like I have Mandy that comes in and helps.
- 1:06:13We've got, you know, Casey who's also holding accountable.
- 1:06:15Like it's not falling all on me. Obviously Bobby is super helpful
- 1:06:18if you need it to need him to be, but I think that I don't
- 1:06:23know, I it's not attached to my home anymore.
- 1:06:26So it's like even if they're whining, even though I check
- 1:06:28cameras all the time, like they're whining while I'm
- 1:06:30sleeping. I don't know.
- 1:06:32Yeah. And I don't care.
- 1:06:33Yeah. Actually, I really do care
- 1:06:36'cause then I'm like. Crap, are they gonna go home?
- 1:06:37And but also like I'll talk the owners through how to hopefully
- 1:06:42work through it and it's not always gonna be like seamless.
- 1:06:45Some dogs go home also, they never whine in my crate ever.
- 1:06:48And they go home and they're keeping their owners up at
- 1:06:49night. And I'm like, or the opposite.
- 1:06:52Yes, yeah, they're. Super pushy with us.
- 1:06:54Like, to the end where it feels like you should be at a certain
- 1:06:56point or something. And then their owner's like,
- 1:06:58everything's great. It's like, really?
- 1:07:00Are you sure? Yeah.
- 1:07:01I mean, you Remember Me talking. About especially two dogs back
- 1:07:04at our old house that had yes, the.
- 1:07:08Crate. Confinement issues that
- 1:07:10literally like I sent one of them home early.
- 1:07:12That dog made me question my mental sanity.
- 1:07:16I had cystic acne. I literally feel like I gained
- 1:07:19weight even though I wasn't even eating that well when it was
- 1:07:22there. Like just like from stress in my
- 1:07:24immune system being like in fight or flight like I just like
- 1:07:28it was terrible. So like, I do remember that
- 1:07:31stuff. That I like that.
- 1:07:32Type of stuff. And he's something extreme.
- 1:07:34I'm like no, please no and I think.
- 1:07:39Also 'cause there's so many different facets to us being dog
- 1:07:42trainers where social media stuff the in dog with owners
- 1:07:47with dogs where that day also Thursday before the dog went
- 1:07:51home on Friday when I decided it I was getting so much shit
- 1:07:53online. I don't know what happened Yeah
- 1:07:56about E collar stuff. And so part of me has I don't
- 1:07:59remember you sharing a couple of.
- 1:08:01Them well face. That real insane.
- 1:08:05So yeah, it was a real on that. It was like automatically
- 1:08:09sharing to Facebook and. It was just.
- 1:08:12Like I couldn't check my phone without having some kind of
- 1:08:17message or comment or and a couple of them I just felt
- 1:08:22personal, like in a way where it's just me checking my phone.
- 1:08:25I don't have people to like talk me through it except for I can
- 1:08:28tell Bobby, but it just felt like a lot.
- 1:08:30And so it was that on top of this dog and yeah.
- 1:08:37So it's. Just so many things.
- 1:08:38That is so fair, yeah. I felt like.
- 1:08:41Burnout, even though why would I be burned out?
- 1:08:43Like I have one dog in like what is going on?
- 1:08:45So then I was like, what is happening?
- 1:08:47Like I love creating content and that's such a cool part of our
- 1:08:51job. So it's like, well, how can I
- 1:08:53change this so that I'm in control of what I share?
- 1:08:56I don't need to be. This is what I've come to the
- 1:08:58conclusion of I don't need to be the go to E collar person.
- 1:09:01I don't want to. Did you just delete that one off
- 1:09:06of? Facebook I turned off the.
- 1:09:08Comments. OK.
- 1:09:10So yeah, I had one. Real once Facebook is like the
- 1:09:13wild, Wild West that like it was also like a higher viewing reel
- 1:09:16on Instagram, but it was like going viral on Facebook and it
- 1:09:21was a dog and a muzzle and working through things actually
- 1:09:24at the owner's home. And Oh my gosh, the amount of
- 1:09:30comments A, that the fact that we had an E collar on him B,
- 1:09:33that the muzzle that was on him 'cause they we used two
- 1:09:36different types was a little bit more narrow.
- 1:09:38So like not tons of panting space, but it was just in that
- 1:09:43video. And so people are like just not
- 1:09:47only saying that I have daddy issues, I'm like, what does,
- 1:09:50what does this have to do with daddy issues?
- 1:09:51It's so bizarre like what? And then, like, attacking the
- 1:09:57owner because it's like, why is that type of muzzle?
- 1:09:59And I'm just like, I cannot. And they're like literally
- 1:10:01putting gifts of Hannibal Lecter like in the comments.
- 1:10:04And I'm like, no, So I just literally deleted that one off
- 1:10:07of Facebook because I'm like, I'm probably not gonna attract
- 1:10:10my dream owner on Facebook. Yeah.
- 1:10:14Well, then I, because I saw another trainer who post it who
- 1:10:18I've like been friends with in the past and she posted
- 1:10:20something on her stories of like a reel from her friend who was
- 1:10:25going that was going viral or whatever and getting so much
- 1:10:28crap in the comments. And I just felt like I was
- 1:10:30constantly getting signs of like just reiterating what I don't
- 1:10:35want, which is this is the thing too about trainers who want
- 1:10:39stuff to go viral or to do really well.
- 1:10:42There are some big pluses to that if it's specific to what
- 1:10:45you want people to consume from you, but then there's also some
- 1:10:50really negative stuff that can come from it.
- 1:10:51And so I've been trying to just lean into things that feel good
- 1:10:56to share things that I want to create and not from a space of
- 1:11:00how can I sell more guides about the E collar, but more like
- 1:11:03maybe I'm in a new era where for myself where I'm gonna create
- 1:11:07different things. It's not specific to that like
- 1:11:09so kind of in that kind of a thing in my stories of.
- 1:11:13Course I still share tons about E collar work, but like I barely
- 1:11:16share about it in my feet anymore.
- 1:11:17Not that I like am against it. I just my focus has been, and I
- 1:11:22think that like I used to care so much about like I want
- 1:11:26obviously my content to be shareable and stuff like that.
- 1:11:28But like I used to love when, you know, my reels would get so
- 1:11:31many views and blah, blah, blah. But now like even like with my
- 1:11:35posts and stuff, like I feel like I'm really leaning into
- 1:11:39more of the sharing about like living a lifestyle with a dog.
- 1:11:42Like if you're struggling with this, don't do like that kind of
- 1:11:45stuff versus like making it about about a tool or making it
- 1:11:48about, you know, how TOS, which how TOS are great as well.
- 1:11:52But so I've barely gotten I haven't had hate in a long time
- 1:11:57on my page and I'm like, it's so nice.
- 1:11:59So nice. It like makes me like.
- 1:12:01Posting and just being like, well, this might, you know, be
- 1:12:05somewhat popular. This might be not popular at
- 1:12:07all, and that's OK. It's still has some level of I
- 1:12:10like it, like like I like it. This would be something that I
- 1:12:14would want to see and come across my feed it that's so
- 1:12:17important. Like I know after I was sharing
- 1:12:19dog Diaries and then I was like, I missed the the purpose behind
- 1:12:24sharing about the E collar and then I'm get back into it.
- 1:12:26I'm like, no, I actually do not want to share this.
- 1:12:29Yeah. So yeah, it's just interesting.
- 1:12:31You never know what's gonna hit or miss.
- 1:12:33Because like, meaning what's gonna make people pissed and
- 1:12:35what's not gonna make them pissed?
- 1:12:37Because that reel that we did of like imagine hating us and this
- 1:12:39is E collar. Like 99% of the comments on it
- 1:12:43were positive. So positive.
- 1:12:45Yeah. And so like to me, I'm like, I
- 1:12:47don't wanna. Post that all the time, you
- 1:12:48know, so it's just like, but also I think it helped by us
- 1:12:52being like, imagine hating me. And it's like, so we're already
- 1:12:55kind of bringing the like, we don't care.
- 1:12:57We don't care. Energy.
- 1:12:58Yeah, I know. And.
- 1:13:00That's sometimes when I when I get a really good message or
- 1:13:03comment and like I actually share it in my stories about how
- 1:13:07I was feeling like I don't know if I ever want to share about E
- 1:13:09caller ever again. It's an owner sent me a really
- 1:13:11nice message. Let you go though.
- 1:13:14I'm either. Only going to post about.
- 1:13:15E caller or I'm never going to post about them again.
- 1:13:17I tell you what, I almost did. Impulsively and I stopped
- 1:13:19myself. I almost put up A and I don't
- 1:13:22have a ton of people following me on Facebook, but I almost did
- 1:13:26like a, a post that was like, I'm never sharing on Facebook
- 1:13:29again. I just wanted you to know that
- 1:13:31please follow me over on Instagram if you'd like to
- 1:13:33continue following. And I started writing it out and
- 1:13:36I was like, why am I doing that? Is so funny that you said.
- 1:13:39That this has nothing to like not the same concept at all.
- 1:13:42But Casey the other day he had it was on Friday, someone in for
- 1:13:47an interview for something he's doing for a project and he's
- 1:13:51like, well, while I have it set up, I'm going to like film my
- 1:13:54welcome video for my website. Like, OK, great.
- 1:13:57I hear him in the basement just struggling because he's like so
- 1:14:00not used to being on the other side of the camera.
- 1:14:02And so he like, it's a Kate, I need you to come down here.
- 1:14:05And I'm literally like, this is like 530 in the evening on a
- 1:14:08Friday. I had already put like my soft
- 1:14:10pants on, no bra on, just my sweatshirt hair on top of my
- 1:14:14head. And I sit down and I'm like, hi,
- 1:14:15I'm Casey from Rose Butter. And like, so he's like, how are
- 1:14:17you so good at this? I'm like, because I'm, you're
- 1:14:21constantly filming me, but he then took a story and he's like,
- 1:14:25I'm gonna take this story and then post.
- 1:14:27He still hasn't posted it. And he's like, hey, guys, like,
- 1:14:31just, you know, he's talking about how like, it's hard for
- 1:14:33him to be in front of the camera.
- 1:14:34Like, I get where you guys are coming from.
- 1:14:36And then he goes, yeah, and just I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be
- 1:14:40posting. Oh, no.
- 1:14:41While he was sitting for the interview, he was, I'm like,
- 1:14:44what is the, OK, what is the purpose of this video that
- 1:14:46you're filming right now 'cause he wanted to do one for
- 1:14:48Instagram, one for his website, the website one.
- 1:14:50Get it makes sense. Like what are you trying to do
- 1:14:52for the Instagram one? And he's like, I want to tell
- 1:14:55people I'm going to be posting more content.
- 1:14:57I'm like, why? Why do we need to alert people
- 1:15:00that you're going to be posting kind of like you how you're
- 1:15:02like, I'm not going to be posting on on Facebook anymore.
- 1:15:04I'm like, we don't need an alert.
- 1:15:07It's OK. No, no one needs.
- 1:15:10To know that we're exiting stage left.
- 1:15:14So I said to him, I was like. Hun, like I'm like, why do you
- 1:15:17need to put a reel up of you telling people more contents
- 1:15:21coming? He's like God, God, I don't, I
- 1:15:24don't, I don't like he just like I'm just saying like if you want
- 1:15:28to, that's fine, but then you like post that and then
- 1:15:30crickets. Like meaning you actually have
- 1:15:33to then post every time this happens.
- 1:15:36We should just say book club. Book club.
- 1:15:38It's a book club moment where I have everyone get this book and
- 1:15:41then I never show up to do it. Book Club.
- 1:15:44Yes, Why announced? You are book clubbers.
- 1:15:48You guys are the presidents of the book.
- 1:15:54Club I wanted. To just post on just, yeah, what
- 1:15:57I thought you were going to say is.
- 1:15:59We alerted about this, yeah. I thought you were going to say.
- 1:16:01Like I'm an E collar trainer, I use E collars.
- 1:16:05If you don't like it you can unfollow me.
- 1:16:06That's what I thought you were going to do something like that,
- 1:16:09which also like never posting here again.
- 1:16:11Just want to alert you because everyone cares so much about
- 1:16:14this though. PSAPSA.
- 1:16:16I don't care. They don't care.
- 1:16:18No one cares. They don't care.
- 1:16:21They close both ways and also those people.
- 1:16:23Commented on your reel and forgot about 20 minutes later.
- 1:16:26I just don't understand. It must be the Facebook
- 1:16:28algorithm because I don't understand it.
- 1:16:31It's like people are just out to I don't I think maybe it's push
- 1:16:35to them. So if they've ever been anti
- 1:16:37this topic, it's like push to them.
- 1:16:39Yes, because I don't get this anymore on Instagram.
- 1:16:42Very rarely like, but it doesn't feel as like hateful God.
- 1:16:47I yeah, I know Facebook is just, I mean, think about, Oh yeah,
- 1:16:51you guys don't sell anything on Facebook Marketplace that would
- 1:16:53just give you all the information you need.
- 1:16:56Facebook Marketplace. I've seen a couple of videos
- 1:16:59from this. I'll have to send it to you
- 1:17:01where she's like, look at what is on Facebook Marketplace in
- 1:17:04Louisville, KY or like some like or you just got people messaged.
- 1:17:07You on Facebook marketplace, like the whole is this
- 1:17:11available? Well, it's listed so yeah, it's
- 1:17:13available. And then they'll be like OK,
- 1:17:15cool. Like can I come pick it up here?
- 1:17:17And then the person's like yeah, like sure.
- 1:17:19Can we meet at like the case of like can we meet at the
- 1:17:21Walgreens and whatever? Yeah, OK, awesome.
- 1:17:24Doesn't show up. It doesn't show up.
- 1:17:27It would take one time for me to never do that again.
- 1:17:29He does. It all the time, but most of the
- 1:17:32time they do show up so. It's just, yeah, I don't.
- 1:17:35Do any of it, Like if I sell something which I don't even
- 1:17:38list stuff on Facebook marketplace, if there's
- 1:17:40something I want to try to sell, I give it to him to like take a
- 1:17:43picture and try to sell it. Like my Apple Watch right now
- 1:17:45it's like a newer ish one I just don't wear anymore because I've
- 1:17:47got Brenda and I'm like if it sells great, if it doesn't I
- 1:17:52want nothing to do with it. Because I don't care.
- 1:17:58It's like with the editing of the.
- 1:17:59Reels for our podcast, which I don't know how he got the magic
- 1:18:03edit to be so opposite. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard
- 1:18:05enough. This is like I was like I'm.
- 1:18:07Like when he showed them to me, I'm like, whoa, you did these
- 1:18:10pretty quick. He's like, actually he's like, I
- 1:18:11just had to make some minor adjustments.
- 1:18:12He's like Riverside did most of it.
- 1:18:14And I'm like, oh, no bad thing is not gonna like these.
- 1:18:16And she said they were dumb. And she said they were, they
- 1:18:18were you. It was.
- 1:18:22Like so stupid. Now I'm curious what?
- 1:18:24You saw because I'll have to. I'm like the ones that.
- 1:18:27He did are so. Straightforward.
- 1:18:29Oh, they were great, Yeah. Yeah, they're also.
- 1:18:31Topics that I would want to. Share just like snippets.
- 1:18:33Yeah, Yeah, that's the thing. What is your plans?
- 1:18:37I know you have a lot of dogs. No, it's.
- 1:18:39Actually like not a we have the three training dogs and then one
- 1:18:43border. So it's and really they're again
- 1:18:46a crew that like can go all out together.
- 1:18:48And so it's I thought you went and got iced coffee.
- 1:18:50Yeah, yeah. So the other day.
- 1:18:52When it was nice and sunny and then we went to the private dog
- 1:18:54park, which was so much fun. Yeah.
- 1:18:56But yeah, no, it's a pretty low key day from a standpoint of
- 1:19:00like, it's supposed to be crappy weather.
- 1:19:02So I don't know. We won't do anything crazy,
- 1:19:05maybe go to a store or something.
- 1:19:07But yeah, it's yeah, no, it's not like the dogs that we have
- 1:19:12right now. It's like busy, but it's doesn't
- 1:19:14feel like, Oh my God, I've got no time to myself or anything
- 1:19:17like that. I got all the things to make
- 1:19:19another batch of soup. So I'll probably do that while
- 1:19:21Casey's gone. He doesn't like the soup, but he
- 1:19:23just said like, because again, it makes a big batch feel like
- 1:19:27you're eating it often. He's just like I I can't have
- 1:19:31any more right now. Yeah, I thought that was for
- 1:19:33sure like a. Tooty thing, but it wasn't no
- 1:19:35just like. I I'm sick of the coot type of
- 1:19:38thing. Which, by the way.
- 1:19:40You know that real I sent you of the defined dish of the you bake
- 1:19:44the chicken thighs in the oven? Yeah, with that we've been
- 1:19:47making it like 3 times. Are you?
- 1:19:49Serious. I haven't tried that yet, OK,
- 1:19:51Because we've also been doing leftovers.
- 1:19:53Because we were going to pokey pretty often.
- 1:19:55And so since I don't have a trained dog, I've kind of turned
- 1:19:58into like, how can I save $40 like, a day for lunch?
- 1:20:02So we've been having leftovers. Yeah.
- 1:20:03Yeah, I know. I love.
- 1:20:05I love. Like leftovers like that for
- 1:20:06lunch. Honestly, that's what I've been
- 1:20:07doing with the soup a lot is doing that for lunch.
- 1:20:10Oh yeah, that's what we did. Forever.
- 1:20:11Yeah, yeah. Awesome.
- 1:20:14Hour 19. Wow.
- 1:20:15Oh my gosh, it flies by. Nice.
- 1:20:17That's the thing that I knew going into this, that I was like
- 1:20:20a little bit in a funk. And I mean, still, I, it's, it's
- 1:20:25fine. I just know that my mood is very
- 1:20:26much. And it's, I don't know, it's
- 1:20:27been more with age, very dependent on what the weather is
- 1:20:31doing. Yeah.
- 1:20:33So, and honestly, it's just like, sometimes I don't know,
- 1:20:37maybe I don't think I'm premenstrual, but I sometimes
- 1:20:40I'm just feeling like down in the dumps.
- 1:20:42I don't know. But I knew I would feel happier
- 1:20:45and some sort of like laughter would come from this.
- 1:20:48But I was like, I'm also going to just show up how I feel, and
- 1:20:52I don't need to be the most entertaining on a podcast
- 1:20:55episode every week. We're gonna keep.
- 1:20:57Oh my God. I keep hitting the table and
- 1:20:59it's making it rattle. But yeah, I already feel like my
- 1:21:02mood is happier after talking to you.
- 1:21:04Yay. OK, Can I give you?
- 1:21:06A homework assignment? What for?
- 1:21:09Content. OK, what?
- 1:21:11OK, so I want you to do. A post that's something like 10
- 1:21:16things I wish I knew before getting a dog OK, which I just
- 1:21:19did. Oh, did you when I was in?
- 1:21:21Florida. OK, we'll do another.
- 1:21:23One can you help me with it? OK 'cause I I want you on.
- 1:21:26The last slide to say, say your your guide, yeah, don't just
- 1:21:31announce it. I want you to have this, this
- 1:21:34saying in mind. It's not the product you sell,
- 1:21:36it's the problem you solve. Yes.
- 1:21:39OK, so you help me with. It.
- 1:21:40Yeah, sure. Great.
- 1:21:44I have the. Time it's gardening and content
- 1:21:46yes, yes content for. Kate, I love it.
- 1:21:51OK. OK, well I hope you have a great
- 1:21:53rest of your day. I know I wish.
- 1:21:54How are your ferns? Doing more often.
- 1:21:57They're doing. Great.
- 1:21:57Can you see that? Yeah, I, I think it's probably.
- 1:21:59A good thing you brought them inside.
- 1:22:00I know, I think. We're getting warmer out.
- 1:22:04Yeah, well, they just. They were, we had them on the
- 1:22:06outside 'cause they would shed inside.
- 1:22:08So I'm hoping but the porch. Oh yeah, you.
- 1:22:12Are Yeah. The one thing that, like Bobby
- 1:22:14moved everything the other day over the weekend to vacuum all
- 1:22:18the leaves out because it's been very windy.
- 1:22:21I've been keeping up with wiping down the black table, which
- 1:22:23shows dust like this. It'll force you to.
- 1:22:26Oh. My God.
- 1:22:27That's probably good, yeah. Otherwise you would just turn
- 1:22:29into the other table. You cannot see dust, no.
- 1:22:33Longer steam goes yeah, they just fell through it just went
- 1:22:36to the ground it. Was just accumulating by all my
- 1:22:40dead seed pods anyway. Oh my God.
- 1:22:43So yeah, I have to clean. It because it makes me crazy.
- 1:22:46I don't know if that's a Virgo thing maybe.
- 1:22:49Yeah, I like when that happens. OK, well, so nice talking to
- 1:22:52you. You too.
- 1:22:53I will talk. To you soon, OK Love you.
- 1:22:56Bye. Love you.
- 1:22:57Bye.
