- 6:48[SPEAKER_11]: Well, good afternoon.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_11]: You're one at all.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_11]: I'm Jeff Graham or the hotline.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_11]: Another gorgeous day out of how many in a row we've had, but this is going to continue right down in the early next week.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_11]: So you don't enjoy it.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_11]: I guess that's all I can say temperatures up in the, I think the around 70 today, but we're expecting upper 70s by Sunday.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_11]: So that's, uh,
- 7:07[SPEAKER_11]: that's quite a forecast for this time of year.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_11]: You know, we've been talking a bit about local politics over the last few weeks.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_11]: And one of the things that comes up for the Supreme Court seats and people say, well, who are they?
- 7:20[SPEAKER_11]: And we're in this thing called the Fifth Judicial District, which is Anandaga, O'Nightahurcomer, Lewis, Jefferson, and as we go counties.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_11]: And there's a bunch of judges that sit in a different county seats.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_11]: So it's hard to keep track up.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_11]: So this year, there's four seats open.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_11]: And there's eight people running and one of those people just happened to walk in here.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_11]: Who are you?
- 7:40[SPEAKER_11]: Which one of you?
- 7:41[SPEAKER_31]: I am Betsy Snyder 14.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, do you go by Elizabeth Betsy?
- 7:45[SPEAKER_31]: I do.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, Elizabeth is by the name of the ballot.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, Dick Dave's best friend.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_11]: There's a 14 on the ballot, or a 14 on a snider for 10 on the ballot.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, because there's another snider in the same way.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_11]: He's a writer.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_31]: Yes, that's my uncle.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_11]: Your uncle, wow.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_11]: Are you going to beat your uncle?
- 7:58[SPEAKER_11]: We'll see.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I'm fine.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_11]: He's got her.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_11]: You got her.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_11]: Now, you came up here from Utica with you on that area.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_11]: Yes.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_11]: I guess people are always a little bit perroquial they say well McCloskey's from this water town so I'm going to vote for him or something like that and but then there's also been this sort of agreement on home rule where people from water town fill the water town office Judge Marrell who's retiring filled the Laoville office and I assume you have some people down there but
- 8:34[SPEAKER_11]: How do they manage to do that when you've got all those people all over the place?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_11]: They don't care about where you're from.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_31]: All right, I hear you.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_31]: Just to your loonus is the administrative judge for the Fitzgerald District.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_31]: So she ultimately will determine where each of us will sit.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_31]: So even for say, like, yeah, I may be from an out of county.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_31]: If she, if the need is in the US, or if the need is in Anandaga, that's where I would be.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_31]: I would say it's based on the need.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_11]: There's no traffic in this decision.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_11]: There's enough traffic in Laoville for somebody to sit there all the time.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, it's, you know,
- 9:06[SPEAKER_31]: Right now, I know the judge, Merrill, he travels a lot, you know, he comes down to a not a county to hear a lot of our cases, and I think he has traveled to a public county in the past.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_31]: So, so like that, whether or not he would be necessary to be there full-time, is probably up to Judge Kieran Loanis, but we have the ability to travel.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_11]: Well, we have deep voices today because we have coals.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_11]: I know.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_31]: Everybody has a chance to choose a change of seasons.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, there you go.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_11]: Do you have a good summer?
- 9:33[SPEAKER_31]: Thank God, you know, we obviously busy doing parades and going to festivals, but it's been a wonderful summer.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_31]: I think it was, I was nervous about doing this campaign at two boys that have autism and I didn't want to have time away from during this whole campaign journey.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_31]: I found that it bonded us because we were going to the car from Ohio, New York, over to get us New York.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_31]: And it was really a great time for us to talk in the community and they loved blowing bubbles and handed out candy.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_31]: It was really great opportunity for them to connect their community.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_31]: No, I know, I know.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_31]: I understand.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_31]: Yes.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_31]: No, for my, for my boy's out.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_31]: It's been a journey.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_31]: But the Gala Sano set up for special needs was easy for me.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_11]: Great.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, we're doing well.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_31]: Support to our community.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, excellent.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_11]: So you're in water town today.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_11]: You're going to go see our good friend Jeff Cole, the channel 7 after this.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_31]: Yes.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_11]: And, you know, it's even tougher now because media isn't what it used to be.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_11]: It's not like,
- 10:27[SPEAKER_11]: You know, the pervasive, there is no post-standard anymore, is that right?
- 10:30[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, it's very different, yeah, it was a lot of the design line, you know, a digital media.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_31]: But, you know, we've been getting out there and we're connecting with all the communities, and just a little bit about my background, I've been practicing for 24 years, I'm 22 years in the court system.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_31]: And I think that's really important to have before we come in a Supreme Court judge.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_31]: I've done thousands of cases.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_31]: and I've been fortunate enough to be rated by all the Bar Association's, the only candidate to get all three Bar Association's to be rated and I was
- 11:00[SPEAKER_31]: Highly qualified, which is the highest for the on-daga county bar, the only candidate to be to that.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_31]: And on-daga county bar, I was also highly qualified.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_31]: And then the Central New York Women's Bar, Highly qualified, and then they have an additional category of commended.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_31]: So that was a thorough interview, thorough review of my record as an attorney with attorney grievance, and speaking with opposing counsel.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_31]: and how I've deducted myself in the courtroom and my temperament and so I'm very proud and honor to have gone through that screening process and for them to recognize me in that manner.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_31]: As I said to all the committees, you know, you have the right to vote on me and whether or not I should appropriate to be a judge and when they gave me their vote of confidence, saw that men a great deal.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_11]: All right, don't talk too fast when you're on the radio.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_31]: No problem.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_11]: OK, because my mother always told me that my first guy in the biz politics, you're talking too fast.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_31]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, I hear you.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_11]: Be cognizant of that when you're out there.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I'm free advice for everyone.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_11]: For the first.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_11]: OK, the judge, do you have anything to say about the other candidates?
- 12:03[SPEAKER_31]: I know, we're not allowed to speak with the candidates, but there are eight that are running.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, all nice people, I assume.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_31]: Yeah, I mean, yes, and at the part of the rules that we're not supposed to, well, when we're any other, all right, yes.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_11]: So the part is, is it a part of it, you're on the Democratic and working families line.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_31]: Yes.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_11]: And the other, there's four Republicans also on a conservative line.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_11]: So it's a traditional red, blue thing.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_11]: So, yes.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_11]: That's a big disadvantage for you, isn't it, most of those counties?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_31]: I think this as a judicial race, it shouldn't be based on Democrat or Republican.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_31]: I think if folks look at my credentials that I've, like I said, 24 years in the courts, running an agency under the appell division, I work for presiding Justice Walean.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_31]: I've done thousands of cases in Supreme Court.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_31]: I work with an agency come to director of mental hygiene, needle service.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_31]: to eerie county i managed 65 attorneys i understand how the courts operate because i've been a fixture in the courts i know the court clerks i know the judges i know how the appellate bench works because i'm a part of the appellate division i've had to manage and supervise and that's something that some of my supervisors with the court said that that is a huge thing that i bring to the table is my ability to supervise with the court so that when i start day one
- 13:30[SPEAKER_31]: I already have a great foundation of how the courts work and I can apply that knowledge in the courtroom and then also working with the litigants with mental illness.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_31]: I had no idea what it takes and I also serve on the judicial tax force for mental illness.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_31]: Chief Judge Rowan Wilson out of New York City appointed me to that position.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_31]: He oversees the entire court system and he placed me on this board that I work with all the judges across the state and we're working to
- 14:00[SPEAKER_31]: in the core system that are mentally ill.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_31]: So for example, our policies for interpreters we're looking at because trauma they experience when they're interpreting, we're looking at the judges, because many of them are threatened, they're safety, and they experience anxiety as a result of it.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_31]: And then we're also looking at how to accommodate jurors.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_31]: Part of our jury pool could have folks like my boys that have autism, that are serving on that pool.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_31]: and we need to think about how can we accommodate them in that process, the bright lighting, the seating, the length of time, all of these things that the courts maybe have not had to do in the past that now where I look at it and I have a tremendous amount of, of years.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_11]: You listen to that all just woke stuff, I mean everybody's a victim nowadays and everybody's this and that.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_11]: Right.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_31]: I would know.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_31]: I would not.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_31]: I would.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_11]: Protected classes.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_31]: No, I think you have to look at the court system and you have to look at how it operates.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_31]: And so if you're in a jury pool and you have an individual with a disability, whether it be something right, my children have autism, or it could be someone that has maybe a heart issue.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_31]: It could be some of that maybe has cancer.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_31]: We need to look at these individuals and we shouldn't say that they have to sit in the box for seven hours.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_11]: Right.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_31]: If there's ways that we can probably maybe have a cushion or something that could help them, so they can serve the community in which they want to do.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_11]: What constitutes a protected class?
- 15:22[SPEAKER_31]: If you're old or a protected class, or you don't obviously those are things that in constitutional rights, that would be on the get looked into.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_31]: But really this job as a judge of the Supreme Court, on the issues that we would hear would be
- 15:36[SPEAKER_31]: A lot of things are mental hygiene proceedings, which I currently do.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_31]: We have over 10 judges that handle those cases all the way down to acting supreme from family court.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_31]: We have thousands of cases every year that are handled and myself included have handled.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_31]: And so when we look at Supreme Court, we need to think about what are the type of cases they handle.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_31]: Metromonials.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_31]: Um, whether it be, um, a property disputes, contract disputes, employment disputes, um, those are the types of things.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_11]: But you have no choice as a defendant or whatever, or judging, yeah, I mean,
- 16:11[SPEAKER_11]: There are probably good judges, and there's probably other ones that aren't as good.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_31]: That's another reason that I have a great respect for our judiciary, and they work very hard for our citizens and our community.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_31]: That's one of the reasons why I wanted to run, is that I believe I could be a positive example on the bench and for mentor to young people I run a program for over 20 years called Legal Line.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_31]: where we do it through our local NBC station WKTV and I have 12 attorneys that volunteer to answer questions for the community.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_31]: I think it's important because so many people have legal questions.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_31]: You can't afford an attorney and this gives them an opportunity to have those questions answered during law week, I'm in May, and during an hour and a half we
- 16:58[SPEAKER_31]: do a great positive community service answer over 300 calls usually and they've said they're doing it for 20 plus years and then also I'm going to help to start the lawyers in the classroom, I would pass our president and not a county bar and the mid-Jerk women's bar and I think as a judge it's important to connect with your community as well.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_31]: and I would love the opportunity to do that more in a judicial role of talking to students and giving them an inside look into the court system.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_31]: We currently do that in Rochester on a few television.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_31]: We coach mock trial teams and we work with students in the various schools and and we give them an opportunity to see how the appellate vision operates.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_31]: It works and the hopes that that gives them something to strive for in their lives and a goal to achieve.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_11]: Well, some people are
- 17:44[SPEAKER_11]: I guess you like judges if things work out for you in the courtroom, but some people are critical of the whole system, not what you're doing, but we had a case in Watertown where somebody was arrested with over a thousand glassing envelopes of fentanyl and they were harrow art.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_11]: I want a lot of people look at that kind of stuff and say, what the heck's going on with this whole system?
- 18:06[SPEAKER_31]: Right.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, that's a criminal court and I understand that that's why I have served on the access to justice committee as a part of the state bar.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_31]: I was appointed to that position.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_31]: And I think what you bring up is it is an important question of how individuals gain access to justice to the courts and judge Carolinas.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_31]: has worked very hard to make sure that folks in rural communities have that opportunity to connect it with the courts whether it be going to their local church or going to a local and non-profit so that they can participate in their hearing virtually potentially if they're unable to make it to, they ought to go or travel to wherever the location is.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_31]: So I think her creative ideas in making it more accessible to the public.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_31]: I think is a step in the right direction.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_31]: I know she's working tirelessly at that.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_11]: Now, obviously, everybody's got their role models in life.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_11]: Some of this actually baseball players, but I assume you have favorite lawyers.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_11]: If you could go out to lunch tomorrow with any one of the nine Supreme Court justices, which one would you want to go to lunch with and why?
- 19:08[SPEAKER_31]: I think really if I was to sit down with a Supreme Court, my family was the largest family to ever be admitted to the U.S.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_31]: Supreme Court, and that was a great honor for our family in 2006.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_31]: We were actually on NBC Nightly News, and I think that was very exciting.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_31]: My dad and my siblings and my mom was the only female in her law school class, and she blazed away from me to be able to have this opportunity.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_31]: But I think maybe someone like Sandra Day O'Connor, you know, I think he's dead.

- 19:44[SPEAKER_31]: You know what I mean?
- 19:45[SPEAKER_31]: I think that I would love to act with her.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, there's many justices, there's just his Roberts.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_31]: He actually, when we appeared before him, he said, didn't anybody want to be a doctor?
- 19:56[SPEAKER_31]: I think I would love to be able to be in a room with the justices and to hear their experiences and how they rose to that.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_31]: actually when we were there, it's a pre-emport that day my nephew was in the lunch room and Justice Scalia happened to be there.

- 25:41[SPEAKER_11]: All right, we're back back on the hotline tonight.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_11]: You can call in with any subject you might or if you want to ask a judge candidate a question.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_11]: Elizabeth 14o is running in the 5th Judicial District, which includes Anandaga, O'Nightah, Herkamer, Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis Counties.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_11]: they're talking about well there's a bill before the governor right now to change all of that to create separate judicial districts for the major upstate cities like on and on and on and on and on and roll and that would change everything with it.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_31]: Yes, the digital district is before governor hockled this time so yeah that would be determination that she'll show make of whether or not to sign that legislation but yes it would create new judicial districts so that there could change the
- 26:31[SPEAKER_11]: It's necessary, then you're going to need more people in charge of these new districts and a lot of hierarchy and expense it would seem.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_31]: Right.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_31]: I mean that there would definitely be changes.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_31]: Those definitely will be expenses.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_31]: Yes, but that's something that offers the court administration.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_31]: We'll certainly ensure we'll do their homework and we'll know how to make such a change.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_11]: It's a political decision because they figure they can get more Democrats elected.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_31]: Yeah, I really don't know.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_31]: Well, I do.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_11]: So the governor will sign it probably, but I don't know if it makes any sense.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_11]: Or I don't even know if the president says to make sense.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_11]: It's just the one we've had.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_11]: correct yes yes is what we're used to yes and my practice has always been with the fifth JD so yes okay yes already if you have any questions of forum is 14 oh please give us a call through run five seven five five twelve forty any other great legal issues racking the count you know it's a lot of debate now about
- 27:27[SPEAKER_11]: And this is more of the federal court, so it's the politics with Trump and everything but every time he does something, somebody's running a court, we expect the courts to be our legislatures now.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_11]: And we even look at the courts like the Supreme Court as a 5-4 Republican majority or 6-3.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_11]: Is that a good thing?
- 27:43[SPEAKER_31]: Well, I mean definitely, for myself, I can do a speak about myself, and that as a judge, I'd be guided by the law, and I think it's important, it doesn't matter if you're Democrat or Republican, and when it comes to a judge ship, you want to pick the person with the most experience, and I'm like a sad, I'm very grateful to be rated as high of qualified by all of the Bar Association's.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_31]: And my work ethic as a director of the courts for mental hygiene legal service and having done thousands of cases.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_31]: I'm also a professor at SUNY Oswego, SUNY Poly, and you can university for 20 plus years.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_31]: Passed by our president at the Major at Women's Bar, along with the United County Bar.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_31]: And I guess that I grew up in a household of attorneys.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_31]: I've had wonderful examples of what the practice of laws about.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_31]: My father, I often say, you know, was basically Atticus Vince, you know, I grew up in Hurricane McCounty, rural County, and he did tremendous work for the dairy farmers, and I sat with him in our law office.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_31]: I helped him file papers and not see go County or Hurricane
- 28:46[SPEAKER_31]: And he was just, well, he must have been played by Gregory Pack in the movie.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_11]: Exactly.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_31]: Yeah, that's great.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_31]: Yes, because he just gave to his community.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_31]: And that's what I'm looking to do here.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_31]: I have a wonderful position currently.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_31]: I enjoy it thoroughly, but I know I could do more for my community.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_31]: And that's how my parents raised me.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_31]: What should be community minded.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_31]: And I think I can be a great service and bring some, I've been example and help mentor young people in our community to strive for the legal profession.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_10]: Okay Right I know this isn't exactly where it is with her, but I hope she understands that Until this is stopped the bus the book can't be passed on that something like this happening nothing else matters It's really that important
- 29:49[SPEAKER_10]: While that's going on, how do you possibly collect money from someone who has like a DWI or how do you do something like that when this person is selling this kind of drugs gets busted for it and doesn't even get a slap on the hand.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_10]: It's got to be to the point where you had met everything's broken, we step back, say no until we fix this, we're going forward with anything else.
- 30:09[UNKNOWN]: Just wanting to get your opinion.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_11]: Thank you, have a great day.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, thank you.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_11]: Well, people are fixated on certain issues, there's no doubt about it.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_11]: and that they're worried about their safety, their personal safety, not who's ruling on their neighbor's divorce, or anything.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_31]: Right, but like I said, this Supreme Court is this race that she is very important.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_31]: I think people need to realize and get out there to vote because they can handle election law cases, so they can handle that out there, and they can handle employment matters.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_31]: And we need judges that are guided by the law.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_31]: and do not bring any bias or add that objectivity and just analyze the facts apply the law and reach the proper conclusion.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_31]: It's very important that the people in this role perform that function because we are the judicial branch in very important that we stay.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_31]: Within those those guidelines.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_31]: It's not good to go into other areas.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_31]: You have to remember what our role is as a judge or as an lawyer I have to do that every day with my clients.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_31]: I've I do boundaries training for my staff I myself What we can do for our clients has to be within the confines as an attorney.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_31]: We have attorney ethics Obviously there'd be judicial ethics and I have strived to always maintain the most Ethics and integrity in my entire career
- 31:28[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, election law cases, they're tricky, aren't they?
- 31:32[SPEAKER_31]: Sure, it's a very difficult situation.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_31]: We ask when cases are challenged, if votes are challenged, and then they can come before the Supreme Court judge.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_11]: We had a big one here, but that's a city council race this year, and I don't know, it seems like once you get thrown into that arena, unless you can afford to pay the pony as far as hiring, and attorney, you're done.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_11]: There's all the deadlines and filing this,
- 31:58[SPEAKER_11]: and that's what happened to the skyrunner for city council and you know it just doesn't politics is it's an insider's game and lawyers are the chief pervellers of politics so it tends to always work to their advantage doesn't it?
- 32:19[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, lawyers, you have to get, if you have a legal issue, you have to get good representation and you have to find out what you're doing.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_11]: Well, how do you know?
- 32:27[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, you have to love as a New York State Biura Lawyer referral service.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_31]: You can always reach out to them.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_31]: Thank you.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_31]: Your not a county bar has a lawyer referral.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_31]: Your local bar associations can be of help in providing you that number so that you can go.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_31]: And then you don't have to retain them.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_31]: you use you can meet with an attorney and they you can tell them your facts and and you can see whether or not it's a good fit but you do have to go based on reviews you can look online there's different you know reviews that rating scales online and I encourage folks I always when you're looking for an attorney you should always
- 33:00[SPEAKER_31]: do your homework because it is an investment of not only finances to bring litigation but also of your time and a relationship that you're going to have with them for a period of time as you need to make a good decision and informed decision.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_11]: There's a little flap earlier in this campaign one of the other candidates on the Democratic line posed for a picture with New York's chief attorney, I guess, Latisha James, who's somewhat controversial.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_11]: She ran for office on a platform of I'm going to get Trump from, I mean, to me, that bothers me.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_11]: I don't care about whether she wants to get Trump or Biden, but it just bothers me that someone could run for office to the highest legal office in the state and openly say that to me that and she also runs around the state talking about just a favorite line.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_11]: She uses it rallies to male, to pale, to stale and referenced to old white men.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_11]: I don't trust those kind of lawyers to look out for me.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_31]: right I mean you yes this once again those are I know you can't comment on care that's office of the trade-able you know I yes I'm not able to to comment yeah okay all right let's take a call good afternoon around here yeah I have a question I've heard it said that there's no excuse for like ignorance of the law if you don't know if there's a law or not that's true right you can't
- 34:27[SPEAKER_31]: Right, you know, that's why you should always make sure you don't get an attorney to represent you, you definitely need to do your job.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_11]: It's not a big deal.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_28]: How many laws are on the books in the United States?
- 34:40[SPEAKER_31]: I mean, there's several volumes of, you know, we have your local communities have a law library, so they can certainly assist you.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_31]: They have, I don't know if that branch from their own county, they do it.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_28]: Turn the thousands of laws in the government expects us to know them.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_28]: that doesn't make any sense.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_31]: Right, that's why you get a attorney to represent you, or at that, you work with the law librarians.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_31]: They can be a great resource to help you get a foundation of kind of- Well, how many of them are on the books?
- 35:10[SPEAKER_28]: You know, if you're a judge, you've went to law school and passed a bar.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_28]: Surely you know that answer.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_28]: How many laws are on the books in the backstage?
- 35:17[SPEAKER_11]: Well, we don't know exactly how many, but there's a lot of them.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_11]: And I think the substance of the question is,
- 35:26[UNKNOWN]: Nobody knows anything.
- 35:27[UNKNOWN]: Everybody is just trying to get the popular vote and go about your day.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, thank you.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_11]: Well, the question of either too many laws.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_11]: There are a lot of them.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_11]: And it's very tough to even know.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_11]: You know, I follow things for a living, but most people don't.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_31]: Yeah, there's a lot of great resources out there.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_31]: There's the Cornell Law Institute.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_31]: Like I said, use the local law library.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_11]: Well, like when you're a business small business, they pass these laws about.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_11]: uh... mandatory sick time pf l uh... uh... this that and the other thing uh... training for this that and the other thing most small employers don't know that they don't have a trade association to tell them but there are local uh... well you can go to return and say are there any new laws this year but uh... you know
- 36:12[SPEAKER_31]: Yeah, I mean, office, there's different state offices that can be of assistance and resources and online resources to help.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_31]: You know, the small business startup groups now, non-profits.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_31]: If you just want to again, you have to do your research and you seek out the information.

- 47:31[SPEAKER_11]: And I don't know if she still has that costume, maybe she can get it out for the October festival Saturday.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_11]: But she was quite a, quite a Saint Pauli girl at least as I remember it.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, so that's the Saturday October fast up right by the GI bridge at the Thousand Islands winery.

- 48:06[SPEAKER_11]: A lot of times, at the old days, you used to be the media rounds you would make and whatever somebody comes to town, if I can suggest where they go and maybe make a call to see if they'll meet with them.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_11]: I did.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_11]: I called Jeff Cole.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_11]: He was kind enough to take my call and you got to get video of these people at some point.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_11]: So you got to look at folks out out of the news sometime this week or save it for the weekend.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_11]: Um, you know, it's easy news, easy news.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_11]: Reminds me the day a years ago that John Moore and I produced an entire newscast without ever leaving the building, just using file tape and old videos and, you know, ever ready type stories and all that.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_11]: So you can do it.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_11]: You can do it.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_11]: 755-1240 is the phone number if you'd like to be on the air today.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_11]: And, um, we're trying to talk about whatever you want.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_11]: Who are these people who are running?
- 49:03[SPEAKER_11]: It was Jim McCloskey, James McCloskey, the judge from up here.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_11]: There's Gregory Amaraso, he'd, I think, is the Rome city judge.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_11]: He's a Republican.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_11]: Patrick Kilmarton of Republican from on and out of the county.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_11]: Lydia Yung, I haven't seen one of her signs yet.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_11]: She lives in Jefferson County.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_11]: I don't know, I don't get that.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_11]: Elizabeth 14, how are we just met her?
- 49:26[SPEAKER_11]: Candace Randall is going to be at next Tuesday.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_11]: Candace.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_11]: I wonder if we can call her candy.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_11]: I think she's a town justice, so we got to call her, you're on her.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_11]: John Dillon, not that one.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_11]: And Gerard Snyder.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_11]: So those are the eight candidates running.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_11]: The last four I mentioned are running out of the Democrat and working families.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_11]: I don't know what that makes any difference.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_11]: It doesn't to me.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_11]: But to some people it does.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_11]: To some people it does.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_11]: So what else have we got here?
- 50:04[SPEAKER_11]: I guess that's about it for right now, but if you want to call in, if you got anything on your mind, they know we get candidates like that in, but you have to put them on because in the public interest convenience and necessity, you know, that kind of stuff is, well, as you know, you're hoping to sell them some ads, that means the name of the game.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, Red Sox and Yankees tonight, game three of a three game series, or the right to move on for the wildcard teams to move on.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_11]: It's that Yankee Stadium.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_11]: Thanks a lot, Slash Knight.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_11]: The series died at one game of peace.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_11]: I don't know.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_11]: We'll see you.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_11]: We'll see with the idiot, Boone has up his sleeve for tonight.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_11]: All right, 755, 1240, the phone number, if you'd like to give us a call, don't forget a champ, Kippur.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_11]: It's from, yeah, Jewish New Year.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_11]: You know, did you see that there was a funny thing that John Morris sent me?
- 51:00[SPEAKER_11]: It was one of these parody videos.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_11]: I'll tell you that the stuff that people come up with these days is just nothing short of incredible.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_11]: And so it was with this thing.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_11]: He came up with, I don't know where it came from, but it was a parody of the song New York, New York, New York, and it was all about Mom Dami.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_11]: I don't know if we can play up a little piece of it here.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_11]: It was, yeah, you say mine down, he's not important, well, he's the new face of the Democratic Party, you know.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_11]: Uh, let's see, we got to go over the messages, we'll find that just a second.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_17]: I want no friggin' part of it New York, New York These Hugo Boss shoes I'm longing to stay And take care of the world And take care of the world And take care of the world
- 52:24[SPEAKER_17]: In a city that's safe and free.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_11]: Well, any.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_11]: Well, anyway, it was a pretty funny thing.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_11]: I thought.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_11]: But without the video, it doesn't mean as much.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_11]: But it just amazes me.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_11]: The little things that people put together using AI and all this stuff, I mean the production value.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_11]: I don't know how they monetize it or how it works, but some people are really clever.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_11]: If you can catch that video, it's a sort of a take-off on New York, New York, Mom-Dommie-style.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_11]: And there you go.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_11]: Looks like he's going to just see where, oh, God, interchromo, he's so desperate looking.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_11]: He comes out yesterday in the beginning of Yom Kippur and wants to apologize to the Jews.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_11]: There was a lot of Jews in New York.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_11]: He wants to apologize to them for nine for COVID.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_11]: You screwed everybody, Andrew, you know, yeah, couldn't go to synagogue, we couldn't have weddings, but everybody suffered under that.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_11]: But it just goes to show our craving.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_11]: He is.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_11]: The fact that he would feel, well, there's a large Jewish constituency in New York, so all the apologize to them, but not everybody else.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_11]: I'm not all a women he grabbed.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_11]: I don't know just the thought he's not going to win anyway.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_11]: We're going to get mom down me and we're going to learn to like it.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_11]: There you go.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_11]: There you go.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_11]: 755 1240 the phone number if you'd like to be on the show of shows today.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_11]: I sort of come in at the end.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_11]: And yes, I do have a little bit of a cold.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_11]: not real super bad just a linger it's going to be a linger I don't know how long these things last isn't any doctor's out in the house uh... probably goes on for a couple weeks sniffles and all that nothing that laid me out or anything like that but somebody was a note didn't matter to ask the question call in man i can catch some of my text recall it you know the answer on
- 54:46[SPEAKER_11]: Now, some of you will say, and you'll be on the blinds, and everywhere I'll say, it wasn't fair to ask of what Supreme Court justice you'd like to have lunch with tomorrow.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_11]: That wasn't fair.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_11]: You're terrible.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_11]: That wasn't fair.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_11]: I thought it was a fair rush, did.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_11]: And I think it's really pretty easy.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_11]: I mean, when you think about it, good afternoon, you're on the air.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_28]: Hey, how are you doing, Mayor?
- 55:14[SPEAKER_11]: Good.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_28]: just curious if you talk to a B.J.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_28]: lately or not, some mail.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_11]: Well, it depends on what you're going to bring up, I mean, I just wish the man who pay his property taxes on time.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, well, we're not going to get into all of that.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_11]: So, all right, I don't know, I don't take it up with him.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, not me, they're, they're all so certain.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_11]: Well, things we just don't talk about here, okay?
- 55:48[SPEAKER_11]: And that's one of them.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_11]: All right, 7, 5, 5, 12, 40 is the phone number, but it takes a question, yeah, I talked through time to time, yeah.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_11]: I talked to everybody, I am not, I hate her.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_11]: You know, I talked to Cliff Olnie, I talked to Rujero, I talked to the former mayor, current mayor doesn't talk to me.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_11]: You know, people like that.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_11]: We had to talk to everybody.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_11]: And anybody wants to come calling or come in, they can, too.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_11]: But I had an issue of property transactions.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_11]: I was just self-regulating issue.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_11]: You know, pay, I'm going to lose the property.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_11]: So I think there were some exciting, exciting circumstances in that particular dispute that's going on.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_11]: Somebody down in the second floor made a mistake and I don't know what the deal was, you know, I hate to say I don't care.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_11]: It's a, you know, any of these, whenever you're at a legal flap or somebody, it nives at you.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_11]: You know, it really gets to you all the time, you think about it.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_11]: Like if you've got a dieted or charged or accusations made or sued or anything, you just think about it.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_11]: But nobody else does because nobody else cares.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_11]: That's your problem.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_11]: Right.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_11]: And so that issue is that he tried to raise, I don't care about it.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_11]: I don't even understand it, I don't, and I don't care about it.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_11]: Okay, 755-1240 is the phone number if you'd like to give us a call to be on the show of shows.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_11]: Just a couple of minutes.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_11]: Life isn't going to be a picked and weekend that's what we're being asked.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_11]: And I think it's going to be it's 61 right now in waters.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_11]: And we expect a high of 72 tomorrow in the sunny skies, 76 in sunny on Saturday, 80 in sunny on Sunday and 79 in sunny on Monday.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_11]: That is picked in weather.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_11]: You can get out there and do the dirty right in the same Lawrence.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_11]: I'll tell you in this guy to weather.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_11]: So go out and do it.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_11]: Go out and do it.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_11]: Get her done.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_11]: All right.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_11]: A pectin weekend coming up in October, you know, see those coming very often.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_11]: Alrighty, like I said, 61 degrees right now, and winds out of the North East is six barometer, 30.45.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_11]: Do you measure an inches or millibars in your household, or do you do that?
- 58:17[SPEAKER_11]: Every set inches.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_11]: Because I know what they are, yeah.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_11]: do point 37 visibility 10 miles I can't see that far here and it's then so that's our we're getting some good sleeping weather at night but good daytime temperatures through with a lot of sunshine.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_11]: When we still got time, still got time if you want to call in and get a little bit of airtime.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_11]: We don't mind you know whatever you want to do it's
- 58:52[SPEAKER_11]: City Council raised over the poll.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_11]: I was going to talk about that too.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_11]: The news junkie poll.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_11]: I think it had, uh, Monica, I had slightly over Velasquez that I was born and then Garrett Brent.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_11]: I don't think it means a lot other than it shows it's closely, or together, but if one candidate starts to fall away on the bottom or surge ahead of the top.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_11]: Then I think it becomes indicative of a very final result, but if somebody's at 27.8 and somebody's at 27.2, no, I don't read a lot of that, other than it's close.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_11]: And I think this cow's a race is fairly close, closer than we thought.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_11]: Of course, we have invested interest in billing it as such, but it's we want to maintain interest.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_11]: But I do think it's tightened up.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_11]: So we'll find out as the weeks go on.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_11]: Don't forget the big debate on the 21st over to the Italian-American club.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_11]: You don't want to miss it.
