- 2:45heal while healing these issues and challenges and limitations allow us to live a
- 2:53life of abundance in all areas of our lives. Will we jump in and
- 3:05start speaking with Jazz and find out what all this means? And find out
- 3:08the definition of the word sage that she has used in her business name Sage
- 3:20with Jazz, something Jaz, Welcome to the show, Jazz, and I'm
- 3:59probably gonna the word again. I'm going to ask you to define a hedge
- 4:04because it has a like other words, especially from Southeastern Asia, it has
- 4:15specific meanings that it takes a bunch of words to define what it means in
- 4:21English because it means more than what people think on the surface, right,
- 4:29m hmm. Yeah. So the seedge can be defined in many different ways,
- 4:35but it is a state of being right for me, It's a state
- 4:40of being and it's in that place of you could call it bliss, but
- 4:45you could call it connectedness, you could call it oneness, but it's it's
- 4:48where I know I'm being taken care of, that I know there's flow in
- 4:53my life, and you know there might not that there's no ups and downs
- 4:59in your lif But then when you're in that place, you're able to be
- 5:02that witness, to be able to witness the world around you and remain in
- 5:08that place of calm. Mhmm, that place of calm. I like that.
- 5:15So you've started with with that, You've started a bunch of programs to
- 5:24help people discover their path towards the hedge, and we should say inner peace
- 5:31and resilience, right, mm hmmm, Yeah, there is a there is
- 5:35a there is a piece of resilience in there as well, because it's not
- 5:40that life isn't going to throw you any curve balls. Those curveball curve balls
- 5:44will come, but you allow them to move through you versus hanging on to
- 5:50that pain and just you know, always questioning why did this happen? Why
- 5:55did this happen? You recognize there is a floe in the world. There
- 6:00will be these ups and downs, but again you remain in that place of
- 6:03knowing and then calm and that peace and stillness. Right. So that's what
- 6:11I you know, when I was thinking of a name for my business,
- 6:13and you know, what is it? What is my purpose? And it
- 6:16is that to just bring people into this place of resiliency so come what way
- 6:23they were able to walk through it and just know that this too shall pass.
- 6:29Yeah. Well, was there like a series events that led you to
- 6:33this path? My life? My life? That's right, that life.
- 6:42And so throughout my life there have been many ups and downs and you know,
- 6:46and I was volunteering with hospice, sorry hospice, and as a volunteer,
- 6:51I noticed, you know, there were many individuals that were coming to
- 6:56me for help. I would speak to them and I would, you know,
- 7:00just hold space for them. And then two or three sessions, they
- 7:04would be okay, they would be off in doing what they need to do,
- 7:09and then until another loss or some event would you know, cause them
- 7:14to be back in that same place. And then you know, I'm going,
- 7:16oh, this is you know, you know, noticing this pattern.
- 7:19And then yet there were others that you know, it doesn't matter what came
- 7:25their way, They're able to get back up again and kind of just keep
- 7:28moving on. And during COVID, I had time to reflect and I,
- 7:34you know, I looked at, you know, what makes a person resilient?
- 7:40And one of the programs I looked at was Penn University's Resiliency Program,
- 7:45and I thought it really nicely defines some skill sets that people can have that
- 7:49you know, once we we have these skills, a different way of looking
- 7:55at life and what it's time to teach us and we as we you know,
- 8:00learned about some of our unconscious belief systems, we can then move forward
- 8:05in a more connected way and really understand life and the traumas that have have
- 8:13affected our life and what what is all this pain teaching me? And so
- 8:16as I move forward in life, I've had the loss of a spouse,
- 8:20I've had losses of different family members, job based cancer throughout this like I
- 8:28you know, had it had me all questioning life and why are you doing
- 8:31this to me? And that's what kind of led me on the road to
- 8:35kind of search for meaning, right, search for meaning? I think all
- 8:41of us human beings search for for that that that meaning one of the things
- 8:48that that I learned and and I heard you kind of go down this similar
- 8:56path when when we met at the Surrey Hospice conference the other day, that
- 9:05we have an event, we have teaching and we have learning. The event
- 9:11happens, it's trying to teach you something. What have we learned after the
- 9:16event has passed? Right? It is that a healthy way of looking at
- 9:24things. I think it's really healthy. Is it's one way to come to
- 9:31a place of forgiveness as well. If somebody's wronged you, if somebody's you've
- 9:35lost somebody through death, you know, you can come to a place of
- 9:39gratitude, gratitude for the time that you did have with them and the beautiful
- 9:43memories that they've left you with versus always being in this place of resentfulness or
- 9:52you know, why did they believe me? Why did this have to happen?
- 9:54And you're always questioning, you know, and you're always a victim of
- 10:00whatever is happening out there. You know it's happening to me, whereas you
- 10:03know, when you build your resiliency skills and have an understanding of life,
- 10:09then you're in the driver's seat and you see how you're creating whatever is going
- 10:13on around you, and how it's actually bringing you back to a truer,
- 10:18truer, more authentic you. And that's where I think there's so much joy
- 10:24and bliss when you actually are on that path and in you're understanding what's happening
- 10:30around you. That's what brings happiness then and then you're in that place of
- 10:35flow right like you're not you're not waiting for things. Things are kind of
- 10:39coming to you. Yeah, let me ask you this. Then when you
- 10:45finally find it's a hedge or that place of bliss right and in and you
- 10:54have it, it's centered in your life and you have and you have that
- 10:56place to ground you in your life. Uh, can We're always going to
- 11:03have events can, but can those events take all that away from us?
- 11:09Or because we're grounded in that the event happens, it may shake our are
- 11:16bliss, but it won't tear it away. Yes, that's exactly true.
- 11:20And so you know when you have that grounding and you know that you're you
- 11:26know, you're not the victim. So you know, if you lose your
- 11:28job, you lose a loved one, there's that grieving period for sure.
- 11:33We're human, after all, we're human, right, We're going through the
- 11:37human experience, and when we have a loss, we may we may feel
- 11:41sad and that this on a surface, you might see its tears, but
- 11:48underneath all of that, there's that groundedness that holds you together and kind of
- 11:54and you know, I always come back to that this is going to pass,
- 11:56right, I'm feeling is I need to feel the emotions of this.
- 12:00It's a loss, and so it's almost like you're witnessing that, you're witnessing
- 12:03that loss, and you're kind of going, oh, you know, actually
- 12:07this week we I was going through something like that, right, So I'm
- 12:11watching myself. I'm going through the tiers and I'm going, oh, there's
- 12:13jazz, you know, she's feeling sad right now because there's this big mountain
- 12:18that she's you know that she feels that she needs to climb over. And
- 12:22yet there was a part of me that kind of knew this is going to
- 12:26pass. This is okay, I'm okay, and I can still put on
- 12:30a smile and I can still show up right. Yeah, So they as
- 12:39as we put it there, the mountain isn't is it is? We're able
- 12:43to climb over the mountain? Yeah, there is. There is light on
- 12:48the on the other side. Yeah. Yeah. So how do you teach
- 12:56people to to go to find these things? What about your person? So
- 13:03a lot of it is around self awareness. So one of the keys that
- 13:07there were six pillars that Penn University discovered that an individual needed to kind of
- 13:13embody. One of them was self awareness. And I think even in a
- 13:18different text, it's you know, when you're saying you need to overcome your
- 13:22anger, greed and all that, like, you know, it's about knowing
- 13:26yourself. Right, So you know, what are my belief systems and where
- 13:30did I get them? Like are these things that my parents have you know,
- 13:35passed down to me or my ancestors have passed down to me or society
- 13:37is telling me my role in the world as a woman, as a leader,
- 13:43as whatever, and so understanding your belief systems and then kind of like
- 13:48are they really do I really really believe in this? Or is this something
- 13:52that I've been taught but you know, I really don't actually don't want to
- 13:54do that, right. So it's a great example for me was my role
- 13:58as a woman in my culture, it's very much defined, Oh, you're
- 14:03in the home, you're the you're the mother, you're the you know,
- 14:05the caregiver and everything. And you know what, you know, you're not
- 14:09going to be the leader. Your husband's going to be the leader, or
- 14:11another man's going to be a leader. And yet the role that I chose
- 14:16in this lifetime anyways is to be a leader in my community and to talk
- 14:20about these issues right and kind of say, well, no, I don't
- 14:24know if I really agree with this, that I have to stay at home
- 14:26and you know, make sure my roteas are around or right, and so
- 14:31there's other things other talents I do have, and recognizing that that these are
- 14:35things I'm good at, right, not necessarily what my parents taught me or
- 14:39society has taught me. I have other skills, so that I'd say the
- 14:45bigger piece of the program that I have is around self awareness, awareness of
- 14:50our traumas and even our ancestral traumas and how that is still affecting us in
- 15:00this life today. So the core crux of the program is around self awareness
- 15:07and how we again become the leaders in our own lives, right, versus
- 15:13blaming others for all of the pain that they've caused us, or you know,
- 15:18every little thing that they say pisses me off, versus you know what
- 15:22there's angers inside of me. Right, these are just triggers on the outside.
- 15:28So the first place, first thing is and then developing healthy relationships communication,
- 15:37having petire communication skills, uh, and then and really connecting with that
- 15:45that spiritual part of you, like whatever that may look like for you,
- 15:48like whether that's your true self, your authentic self, or whether you have
- 15:52a faith that you practice, just exploring all the font where where what's your
- 15:58connect to this world? Yeah, on the spiritual end of things, it's
- 16:04like every Sunday I put my reverend hat on and I do a talk about
- 16:11the love of God in our community and how we need to expand that with
- 16:18that we're talking about a lot of different life experiences and putting the blame on
- 16:27other people. How often does does that happen and leads to like things like
- 16:37self hatred and self doubt because we're meeting somebody else for what we could take
- 16:45responsibility for. Yeah, that's a really good point. And I just want
- 16:49to take one step back and what you said earlier around love. I know,
- 16:55since yesterday was Valentine's Day, you know, it was kind of reflecting
- 16:57on love and how society in itself, as you know, made love like
- 17:03so commercialized. And it's also always about having someone in front of me to
- 17:10love and then they should reflect that back to me and they should love me,
- 17:12and they better love me like how I want to be loved because otherwise
- 17:17of me right and and for me, it's like it's a state of being
- 17:22right and we are love. We are love all the time. We're love
- 17:26right, and we just have all of these you know masks that we wear
- 17:30that prevents us from from loving each other all the time, right. And
- 17:34so one of the beautiful scriptures that you know, I came across was just
- 17:41you know, being able to just see see the divine and everything and everyone,
- 17:45and just everything I look at, whether it's a plant or you know,
- 17:49computer or whatever, it's it's all the divine right and so just and
- 17:53when you see life from that place, that love just kind of wears out
- 17:59of your hard for everybody right and then and it starts with loving yourself too,
- 18:04because I'm also a creation of the divine right. And when I can
- 18:08really get into that, then I don't project that, oh I'm such a
- 18:14loser. I'm not good at this. I'm not good at that. You
- 18:17love yourself wholly right, holistically, and I do agree that that you have
- 18:23to really around the self awareness. One of the things I talk about is
- 18:29just being aware of our self talk. You know what am I always telling
- 18:33myself? And one of the biggest things for me. I grew up in
- 18:36a culture which where girls weren't valued, and so my big self talk is
- 18:41I don't matter. Right for me, I don't matter. And even with
- 18:47all of the things that I know, I do catch myself hearing that,
- 18:52right, So, you know, it's about being able to turn that self
- 18:55talk around and say, you know, I'm loved unconditionally. I'm loved unconditionally.
- 18:59When I do hear that self talk coming through, right, Yeah,
- 19:03I know for for myself, coming from a culture where you're supposed to be
- 19:11more drone like and just fit in and keep your head duck sort of thing.
- 19:15It's like I I keep I hear myself every night. Again, let's
- 19:22say, who am I to be doing this right? That's right? Or
- 19:29am I not right? Why not me? Or why not me? Why
- 19:32should I do this work right? Somebody needs to do why excellent? Yeah?
- 19:37Yeah, So that negative self talk like it's so important. Like I
- 19:41think a few years ago, you know, I lost my husband and that
- 19:45was another like you know, it's like, you know, you know,
- 19:49how are you going to survive as a single person and you know, children
- 19:53and all that, like, you know, like a woman on her own,
- 19:56Like especially when I was growing up, like it was just like oh,
- 20:02you know, we better go give her some money and we better you
- 20:03know, there was those were my role models, right, Like it was
- 20:07all like it was all about women having a support of a husband or a
- 20:11supportive brother because women won't survive on their own. So so that negative self
- 20:15talk will come in every now and then. And yet I have lots of
- 20:19abundance around me and I've proved all of that wrong. But it's very very
- 20:23deep. Those those words you know, probably like ancestral too, never mind
- 20:32just from this lifetime. Well yeah, the ancestral part. I want to
- 20:37get to the ancestral park. But I want to say this first. It's
- 20:41like, is there a point where we had to realize that we are love
- 20:44and we are abundance? Yes? Can we accept that we can be great?
- 20:48Yeah? Yeah? You just have gratitude right, and you know you,
- 20:52I mean you could be living in a hut and you still have gratitude
- 20:56for for for whatever it is. It's like the air you breathe and and
- 21:02not. Some of my hospice work too, like I I when you're working
- 21:06with people at the end of life, you know, they they don't have
- 21:11I mean, yeah, they have regrets of things they didn't do, but
- 21:15you know that was in those last moments. It's like, can I breathe
- 21:18enough breath to be able to see my wife again? Or can I breathe
- 21:22enough breaths so that I can see that child be born? Like you know,
- 21:26I want to know is that a boy or is a girl? Like
- 21:29you know, so you cannot have gratitude for anything and everything no matter how
- 21:37little you have. Yeah, so you know, there's a lot of events
- 21:47that happen in our lives, and one of is is like is like you
- 21:56were saying about how commercialized love is and Violentier's Day. I'm not going to
- 22:00be an absolute down on Valentine's Day, because hey, I like Valentine's Day.
- 22:06I like getting There's nothing wrong with being a part of that, you
- 22:11know, and saying Happy Valentine's Day. But I'm just saying, you know,
- 22:15I appreciate your love. How do we make that that, well,
- 22:21wish from one day expand into a whole lifetime of wishing everyone around this love
- 22:30and happiness and all those things that we say at certain occasions. How do
- 22:37we how do we extend that out? Well? I think I answered that
- 22:42earlier, which is about love is a state of being, right, So
- 22:48when love flows out of you, you don't need to choose like a day
- 22:52that I'm gonna you know, Yes, you can still wish people happy Valentine's
- 22:56Day or whatever day. But when that love is flowing through you, it's
- 22:59flowing twenty four seven, right, and when people come in contact with you,
- 23:03they feel that love. You don't have to say I love you.
- 23:07They just feel your love. And so I think again, that's the state
- 23:11we want to be, the more authentic us, without our masks on having
- 23:17to prove that we're a certain way or not a certain way. But yeah,
- 23:21like, and I'm not saying that we get there overnight unless there's some
- 23:25grace that pourson Like, it's a process, right, and then we see
- 23:29ourselves oh here, like I just said, like, oh, I hear
- 23:30that negative self talk coming in. It's telling me who am I to be
- 23:34doing an interview? There? No, but why not? Right? Like
- 23:37I've got all this great information that I'd love to share. Why not right?
- 23:41And so always watching that what's going on on the unconscious side, and
- 23:47before you know it, there will be less and less of that and more
- 23:51of you know. Even when you're looking at people, it's you just see
- 23:55them with love, right right, they feel your love now. And I
- 24:00think, like you know, I think in some cultures, especially even the
- 24:03word love, we've associated love and sex as one right, But love again,
- 24:10like I said, it's a state of just being. It's not something
- 24:14that the dirty or that you can't love everybody, you know, Like if
- 24:18I look at Garnonik who who is the founder of the sick faith? Like
- 24:23he loved everyone, whether you'd killed somebody, whether you know you were begging
- 24:29or whether you're the king or whatever. Everybody received love. There was no
- 24:34enemies, right. Yeah, I like that because when we Okay, I'm
- 24:44gonna poke at Christians for a little bit, because hey, I am I
- 24:48am a Christian, Okay, But there's the structure that is Christianity. And
- 24:56then there is with Jesus Christ taught and his teaching was everybody deserves love,
- 25:03it doesn't matter. Right. It was one of those is like you know,
- 25:08we we are that and that was how we were created. Right,
- 25:17We're all children of the divine. Yeah, I mean there we may get
- 25:22into where egos and do some strong things or hurt people and all that.
- 25:26Right, but if you if I think of, you know, people in
- 25:30my life that have hurt me, and then when I can look past their
- 25:34masks, right, like they were the ones that were in fear when they
- 25:38were trying to hurt me. Right, they were the ones they thought,
- 25:42you know, they were threatened by me or whatever it was. And then
- 25:47but if I could see them without their masks, they were they were just
- 25:52love, right, they were just beautiful beings, right right, Yeah,
- 25:56it is something that I like to say to a lot of people that I
- 26:00tell most people that cross my path, unless well most people across my path
- 26:06because I don't find too many people anymore because I'm always focused on the good
- 26:11in people. Yeah, that I find that good in them, and I'm
- 26:15finding myself telling more and more people how beautiful they truly are. And it
- 26:21isn't the hysthetic facial features or any it's that love that they're that they're projecting
- 26:27out from them, the beautiful. So yeah, so you, like I
- 26:37said, you have a whole program that that that you've built with a hedge,
- 26:45with with jazz, and what what are the the results that you want
- 26:52people to get from working with you, Well, that they're feeling more resilient,
- 27:00more self aware, self aware you know, of their own unconscious sort
- 27:04of unconscious belief systems, the unconscious dialogue that goes on within them, and
- 27:14that they come out with some tools that you know, when they are going
- 27:17through some hard times, that they're going to be able to you know,
- 27:21understand what they're going through and then come out of it still connected and able
- 27:27to move forward with the lessons that they've learned and really lead a life of
- 27:33authenticity connected to divine wisdom and that there will be flow in their life as
- 27:41well. So the program itself there is the the the educational part, but
- 27:48then it's coupled with yoga and some meditation so that you know, they can
- 27:53go, they can help move energy through through their body and learn some breeding
- 27:59techniques. So these are all tools that they can use as as a you
- 28:04know, move forward in life themselves. And also they can teach this to
- 28:08their their loved ones as well. YEA, create more peace and harmony in
- 28:14our homes. Who doesn't want that? I think that's something we all want,
- 28:18right I think? So, I think that is our goal. Right
- 28:23you used a another I think it in our cultural I should say, in
- 28:34our general area that that the word yoga is misused hm hmm, because we
- 28:44think of the Birkham's Yoga Center or the Hot Yoga Center where we yes,
- 28:49yes, yes, more of an exercise. Yeah, So if you could
- 28:55explain what you mean by yoga within within your programs, because it has different
- 29:03meanings, right, yeah, it definitely does. And so the yoga that
- 29:07I teach is Kunderlina yoga is taught by Yoga Budget and so I'm a certified
- 29:12yoga teacher with Yoga West and uh yeah, and so for me, the
- 29:19exercises or the koreas are all designed to move through something, right, so
- 29:26there you know, whether it is like you're trying to strengthen your your spine
- 29:32or your time to remove energy, to basically move energy from our lower chakras
- 29:37into our higher So that's where we want to be all the time, where
- 29:41we're more connected to our our the universource, to our authentic selves. And
- 29:49the yoga portion the eight the eight classes, it's all beginner's yoga, so
- 29:55it's nothing really really advanced. It's just designed to the block the energies that
- 30:02we have. And each each crea that I choose, its it matches whatever
- 30:08lesson that we're learning. So for lesson learning a lesson on surrender, or
- 30:12for learning a lesson on uh just maybe moving through some of our childhood traumas,
- 30:21that's the yoga postures will do for that day. And the feedback I've
- 30:26gotten from the students is that they come to the class and by the end
- 30:32of the class there they have such sound sleep that they feel that they have
- 30:36no worry in the world, and so it's been so positive to see some
- 30:40of the changes the participants have gone through s if you is actually doing a
- 30:45study or around one set of classes I did. They interviewed the participants before
- 30:53they took the classes and then after and kind of are looking at their mental
- 30:59health for and after and the pliminary results I've seen and yeah, what the
- 31:04participants are just systhetic about how you know, if they were going through depression
- 31:11or anxiety, and how much better they're feeling after the eight weeks, and
- 31:15how they're how they're using the tools to really help them in their daily lives.
- 31:22M Yeah. The meditations themselves are again from some of them are from
- 31:30different I've taken them from different modalities and UH and again are basically allowing ourselves
- 31:40to kind of connect with our unconscious self for connect with the divine, come
- 31:47to a place of peace and just quietening those thoughts. So yeah, they're
- 31:55all yeah, very much the feedback I get. It doesn't matter what faith
- 32:00you're from. Like, I think they're feeling a lot more calmer. Yeah,
- 32:07yeah, I know. I used to go to there was a center
- 32:17in in UH in Vancouver. I used to go to and there was just
- 32:22one time we were going through the the the yoga meditations and everything right,
- 32:28and hers was definitely about meditation. And I hadn't slept in like a couple
- 32:35of days just because of work. Right just kept me, kept me going,
- 32:38going, going going, and like and it was such a calm place,
- 32:45and she was such such a cool person that I fell asleep with the
- 32:52meditation and she just just left me where I was. She's like, well,
- 32:57no, that's what you you needed this time out of our class and
- 33:01say that was your calm was to be there. So that's how we had
- 33:07to respect all that. So yeah, no, I my one of my
- 33:12fondest memories is I'm going to see a hospice client and when I went in
- 33:17and there was you know, just talking to her. What I thought,
- 33:22I was just talking to her and doing a meditation with her, and then
- 33:25she fell asleep as well, and so I left and her daughter was there
- 33:30and I just you know, I was like around five in the evening,
- 33:34and so the next day I thought I'd just see, you know, how
- 33:37to check in how she's doing. And the daughter's like, oh my god,
- 33:39I don't know what you did to my mom and I'm like, oh
- 33:42my god, I got scared because for maybe she passed or something. And
- 33:45she goes, like, my mom slept from when you left, so seven
- 33:51in the morning the next day, and when she woke up, she said,
- 33:53where's that girl? And she goes, I'm like, Mom, I'm
- 33:57like, she left last night. And then she goes, oh my god,
- 34:00I feel like she took all of my pain with her. And on
- 34:04my side, I'm like, I don't know what I did, right,
- 34:07And so yeah, definitely, you you know, if you can help a
- 34:12client get into that deeper state kind of thing, it can really help with
- 34:16the healing and yeah, just moving moving them forward, yeah, whatever that
- 34:22next stage is for them. Yeah, so that's that's a really cool thing
- 34:29that you do with it with the yoga. So I always ask somebody one
- 34:36of these off the walk questions, right, what would what is the most
- 34:44beautiful place on on the world and why does it bring you bring you peace?
- 34:54Wow? The most beautiful place in the world. I guess I haven't
- 35:00traveled all the world, so I don't know, but I was going to
- 35:05say, just in my own in my own home, like in my home
- 35:09when I'm meditating. Like this morning, I start the morning with asadna,
- 35:16which is practice, I guess, and I just had the most beautiful experience
- 35:23this morning. I just felt like Guru wor God was talking to me and
- 35:30it was actually answering everything that I had been asking where I was talking to
- 35:36a friend about the night before, and I was just like wow, like
- 35:42this is this is like I guess, like I was in heaven right Like
- 35:45there's nothing that I need more, There's nothing like I don't know that I
- 35:51need to be anywhere else, Like just in that where my meditation corner is
- 35:58is bliss for me. Awesome. What are the best ways people can find
- 36:04you and work with you? Where can they find me? Did you say
- 36:07find you along with you? Oh? Okay, Yeah, if they'd like
