- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider Podcast, where we bring you tips and inspiration each day to help you build habits for writing success.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: For more resources, including your free Daily Rider Starter Kit, visit DailyRiderLife.com.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I want you to take a moment and picture yourself as a third grader.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: It's May and you have two weeks of school left.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: The weather is warm and all you can think about is a fun-filled summer full of sprinklers, fireworks, and ice cream.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Yet you sit there at your uncomfortable desk listening to the teacher droning on and on about some subject you're not really interested in.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: You'd rather be anywhere but here.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: You know, we never quite escape this impulse of wanting to be done with school, of wanting to be done with our education.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: We move on to middle school, high school, and maybe college, and maybe even grad school.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: And with every level, we just want to be done so we can get on with our life.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And this doesn't change even when you get to the doctoral level.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Ask any PhD student in the middle of their dissertation, and they will likely say, I just want to be done with this thing.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Well, this is the kind of attitude most people expect from formal education where we follow somebody else's prescribed path for success.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Now, there are a lot of benefits to formal education, of course, but nothing compares to the curriculum that you create for yourself.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: If you want to grow as a writer, you have to change your mindset about learning.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Learning is a privilege, not an obligation.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Learning can happen anywhere, not just in a prescribed institution.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Learning is the match that lights the fire of passion and purpose, not the bucket of water that drowns it out.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: As Ernest Hemingway once said, we're all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: So, my friend, you must make time to learn every day.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Whether it's books, podcasts, courses, videos, masterminds, or some other kind of learning opportunity, you've got to make it a priority.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Even just a few minutes of learning every day can change the whole course of your life in just one short year.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Now you might have a master's degree, but the truth is that you never truly become a master.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: You're always an apprentice.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: So what are you learning today?
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Before you go to bed tonight, share what you have learned today with some other person, whether it's by text, email, or somebody in your family.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Don't overthink it, just share.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: A big thanks to today's sponsor, Thumbprint Creative.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: You've probably heard the saying, don't judge a book by its cover.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: But in the book world, it's absolutely not true.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: People do judge the quality of a book by its cover, and in fact, the cover design is the first thing people notice about a book.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: That's why my graphic designer of choice is Christy Griffith, owner of Thumbprint Creative.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: I've worked with Christy for many years, and she's designed covers and interior layouts for my own books, my ghostwriting clients, as well as lots of books for friends that I've sent her away.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Christy works closely with you to design a layout that perfectly captures the theme and genre of the book.

- 3:24SPEAKER_00: As always, my friend, thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time.
