• 0:01
[upbeat rock music] Welcome everybody to Show, Show Spectrum Full Cycle Number 245.
• 0:21
[laughs] Like Yoda we will speak. [laughs] Yeah, um, it's Full Spectrum Cycling, folks. We're in the studio here at the podcastmke.org building. This is our building. We bought it. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Um,
• 0:38
today in the studio we got Tony. Yep. Mr. Dave Sobowski, Seely Dave is visiting from five hours north of here, and- Seely... and JK. Is he visiting from Seely? [laughs] I am. Five, five hours north of here.
• 0:52
[laughs] Who's buried in Grant's tomb? [laughs] Bruce- Prince Albert in a can. Better let him out. [laughs] All right. Mixing dad jokes all over the place. Right? Wow.
• 1:04
Well, that's what you get when you have a room full of dads. [laughs] All right. One, two, three. Step. Move. Step. Dad. [laughs] And the non- Yeah...
• 1:17
and the non- I've got, I've kept mine all in- And the non-dad called it out, so... [laughs] Well, he got, uh, he, he got three of them- Oh, yeah, I jumped, I- Full, full growed. Yeah, I jumped over. Yeah.
• 1:27
I, I jumped over- That's easy... formative years. I think that's cheating. Yeah, it totally is. [laughs] All right. So yeah, warm out there again this week. Gorgeous. Was, uh- So s- It-... I think I saw 77. Today? Yeah.
• 1:40
Oh, what, you were out on the West Side, huh? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I think, yeah, 70-something. I, I saw 72 when I was sitting at my desk. Yeah. Boy, that's, uh- I'm in short sleeves... that's- And riding it...
• 1:49
yeah, me too. Got my drunk cyclist shirt on and- My kid was up at 6:00 AM wanting to go for a bike ride. Well, to school? Yeah. Good call. Yeah. He was great.
• 2:00
He said, "What a beautiful day it is," as we're riding on the Oak Leaf. He actually said that to you? [laughs] Yeah, exactly. [laughs] Sometimes he's like- What a beautiful day it is today... he's pretty prolific.
• 2:10
Like he's 33 years old. Right? You know? [laughs] What a lovely day. And I understood him, which was the other interesting... I'm like, wow. But yeah, it was definitely a, a beautiful... We've had some great weather.
• 2:19
Now it's gonna get craptacular. Eh, it'll get normal. Tony was, Tony was relating before the show about how Daniel is being a little bit more civilized on the bicycle. He's done learning. Done learnt it.
• 2:33
Done, done learnt it. Yep, he's better. He loves it now. So he just sits... There's a pad, and he puts his feet in the bag and- He's got foot pegs. Oh, he's got pegs.
• 2:41
He's big enough to sit on the, the pegs on the cargo bike- Oh, very nice... and then- Well, that's cool... every time I look at him in the mirror, he's just, like, checking everything out.
• 2:49
It's like it's a great thing for an autistic kid, man. It's like... Right on. Uh, even though it was really nice out yesterday, uh, Seely Dave and I spent most of the day inside- Well, that, for good reason...
• 3:01
[laughs] building up the, the Omnium Cargo. The Omnium, the dog packing chariot. Yeah. Um- We were gonna do a little chat about, uh, kind of what made you pick the bike and what you're gonna be using it for.
• 3:14
Well, yeah, so I, you know, I... One of my favorite kinds of riding is bike packing. Um, n- finding other people though who have days in a row to go off on a trip with me is, is not easy. So I, it's...
• 3:32
And I've s- sort of, uh, sort of like not, uh... Yeah, is my sound not great? My- No, it's good... it doesn't sound that great in- It'll be fine...
• 3:39
it doesn't sound that great in my ears, but, um, anyway, uh- It'll be good... okay. But so I, I just, I had started watching the, um, Mira La Pera. Have you seen that guy? When he did...
• 3:53
When I started watching him when he did the, um, Tour Divide route with his dog. He's the first guy to complete the Tour Divide with a dog on the back of his bike. Nice.
• 4:03
He's got a very cool titanium custom Meriwether long tail, um, with I... pinion drive. Um, yeah, it's a pretty sweet bike. I'm not in that income bracket, as, uh- [laughs] Yeah, that's a pricey bike.
• 4:15
I was just looking at pinion today. Well, you can either have time to goof off and do this- [laughs]... or you can have money to buy one of those fancy- I'd have to get another job just to buy that bike. Right. Yeah.
• 4:23
Um, but, um- Yeah... so I was looking around and the, um, last time I was in town, I was in Bend Cycle, and they had an Omnium, the Mini Max, on the floor. And I rode it, and I picked it up, and it's just a steel one.
• 4:38
They make a ti one, but just a steel one. It was super light. It rides like a regular bike. Um, I've ridden Bullets. They do have a little bit of learning curve.
• 4:47
Um, I used to have a Yuba SuperMarche, if you remember their front loader. Yep. Yep. I don't know that they make that anymore. But, um, but, uh, so I was looking to get one of those.
• 4:58
Cowboy, right now I have a Yuba Sweet Curry that I've added the Bafang to.
• 5:03
Um, and I have a big bread basket thing on the back that Cowboy can ride on, but he doesn't really like it, and he can't see back there, and I can't see him when he's back there. Right.
• 5:13
So I kinda wanted to put him in the front again to bring him along so I now have a... Whether he wants to go on a bike packing trip or not, he doesn't really get to choose. [laughs] Yeah.
• 5:23
You, uh- So my friends all get to tell me no. You- Cowboy can't say no. [laughs] You didn't need to really sell this bike, but boy, you totally sold the bike. [laughs] Yeah. And so the... what makes the... what...
• 5:33
for those that don't know, what makes the Omnium unique among analog cargo bikes is that it has room for 2.4 inch mountain bike tires. Mm.
• 5:43
A Bullet, you can just barely squeeze a two-inch tire in the back of a Bullet, you know, and, uh, most of the other ones don't. There are more e-assist cargo bikes now that have fat tires that...
• 5:57
But if I'm going for three days in the middle of nowhere, I don't wanna have to be worried about-... charging up- Right... you know. True.
• 6:03
I mean, I can probably- And if you can't charge up, riding a really heavy bike down a hill- A really heavy bike with a 45-pound dog- Dog... plus, plus all my gear Yeah, no, that sounds like a really bad day.
• 6:12
[laughs] Right. Yeah. Well, yeah, Tony's riding a cargo bike basically with, uh, 20 by fours. Um, 20 by threes, but I'm gonna go with the specialized Karlaus Whisper's, which are 3.5s. Oh. [laughs] Gumwalls.
• 6:26
They're really actually- Just for the name. Just for the name. Just for the name. And they're actually really affordable. [laughs] Well- They're less than 50 bucks a piece...
• 6:33
so the Omnium- You're never gonna dance again...
• 6:34
um, for those that are listening and, and won't see any, you know, thing that Greg has in the show notes or whatever- I'll throw, I'll throw a, uh, picture or two up of it...
• 6:42
yeah, um, it has a 29er rear wheel and a 20-inch front wheel, and, um, unlike a Bullet, the 20-inch front wheel is underneath the deck in the front. So the cargo deck is above the 20-inch front wheel.
• 6:56
So it's low, but it's, it's not as low as a Bullet. Right. So again, you get more ground clearance for riding off-road, which is where I'm riding. And your doggy's a lot closer to scratch. Yeah, right.
• 7:06
Um- [laughs] So, uh, uh, the, the one upgrade I've debated, I've seen one guy in England has done this, is put a 20-inch suspens- front suspension fork on those, and that, because of the rise of e-bikes with 20-inch wheels- They're becoming-...
• 7:26
there's, there's suddenly there's- Yep... there's, there's lots of 20-inch suspension forks out there. Yeah. You know? Show notes. Yeah. I, I showed, uh, I showed Dave the...
• 7:35
That thing's been around since like 2011 or something. Has it? It's a Suntour- What?... Suntour Swing- How do you get that?... Swingfork. 'Cause that thing seems like a really good idea.
• 7:44
I, it, I don't even think Suntour US carries it. I think they come in from either on bikes that are disassembled or they're bringing them in, uh, but on eBay. And it looked like a good idea.
• 7:54
The reason I was looking at it, 'cause Dave and I had talked about suspension forks yesterday on the, uh, on the front of the Omnium, is that the axle, the crown on the Omnium is really short. It's like, what? 275. Yeah.
• 8:07
I didn't understand what you were asking me to measure. Oh, okay. I thought you were asking me how big a tire will fit underneath the fork crown. I didn't realize- Oh... so you'd have to add that much more- Okay...
• 8:17
to what I measured, uh- Yeah. So then it would be pretty similar to this fork, and that was kind of why I was interested because a lot of the, uh, traditional telescopic forks have- Are taller... a much longer- Right...
• 8:28
axle to crown, and that's gonna change the geometry more than you may want. Right. And this goofy thing only has 30 millimeters of travel, but- It's 150 bucks. It might be worth trying one. It's magnesium.
• 8:40
But I did, I did read some reviews that said it has like a, like a, a wobble vibration. Hm. Like maybe those, the, um, maybe the, the pivots are not designed for heavier weight or something. Hm.
• 8:56
Uh, it's for Dahan- I think they made them for Dahans- Okay... originally. Okay. Well, I mean, Dahan's- Let me know. I'd check one out... yeah, Dahan's not a crap bike, so. No, no, I had one.
• 9:04
And, you know, uh, what are these, what are people doing with it? Are they like trying to do full-on downhill with it and expecting it to perform or is it- Right... just around town at- Just a nice comfy ride...
• 9:13
15 miles an hour on- Yeah... you know. It's like where- And I'm using it, I'm not, you know, using this bike for enduro. I'm taking the chatter off of, you know, washboard on gravel- Right... and stuff like that. Yeah.
• 9:22
So since it takes a 29er rear, could it take a, obviously, smaller diameter wheel with a bigger tire if you want it to? Probably. You could, but- There's not that much. It does have a rocker- It's-...
• 9:37
for the, uh, the dropout, but right now with the 2.4 on there, it's all the way forward and the tire's nicely- Yeah, it-... in the, the area where- 2.4 is a nice fit in the back. Yeah.
• 9:48
The front, I have a 2.4 in it, but I had to... It's squeezed- Pretty tight... in there. Yeah. I'm gonna switch it to a 2.25 in the front. Um, they advertise it- 20? 20-inch. Nice. Yeah.
• 9:58
They advertise it as fitting 2.15s with fenders. I'm not gonna run fenders on this bike, so I can fit bigger tires. Especially on the front. You have a flat. Yeah, especially on the front. But, um, I won't run fenders.
• 10:09
It, it wouldn't be a civilized bike then. [laughs] Uh, at 160s, according to Nerdo. Millimeters or... I used 160s. I could have, I could have added like a... I thought about post- 185s or something like that...
• 10:21
yeah, and extending with an extender on it. But I'm using, um, Dominion A4, so four-piston hydraulic brakes. They're- Those will stop you... on Haze. Yeah. They'll stop you. It's, it's great.
• 10:30
I'm interested to get a, a hands-on report for Dominions. I, I already like the lever. You, well, you rode it just around here. Yeah, just- It, they had a pretty darn nice lever feel. Yeah.
• 10:40
I r- way better than like my BB7s on my, on my Sweet Curry [laughs] like which are like, they work, they stop the bike, but there's no love happening there on the handlebars. Right. Yeah. The Dominions are pretty sweet.
• 10:52
No, not like the- No, I'd have to more compare those to TRP, you know, Spires or something. Yeah. You know. Yeah, I think, uh, kinda the gold standard for affordable hydraulics for me is like a, just a Shimano XT.
• 11:02
They feel so great. You, you love those. [laughs] You know. And, uh, or an Elfine. Very nice. Two fingers. One finger. Uh, speaking- One finger...
• 11:12
of that, thanks for, uh, clarifying that the, uh, Bike Bazaar is this Saturday- [laughs]... 'cause I got a whole weekend free. Yeah, Tony- I like-... Tony texted me- I was gonna bring that up on Saturday...
• 11:21
I got up at 6:00 AM, I showered. I'm like- I said it when you first text me like, "I got the Bike Bazaar this..." I'm like, "Isn't that next weekend?" Yeah, it was- [laughs] I gotta- So I goofed it up.
• 11:31
I was gonna bring it up, but then I was like, "No, just if it comes- I got a whole-... if it comes up- I got a whole freaking weekend free because of that... I will address.
• 11:38
[laughs] I was gonna go see Dave, Dave on, uh, Sunday, and I'm like, "All right, well, I'm busy for the whole weekend." And all of a sudden I'm like, "Hey, I got the whole weekend free."
• 11:46
Yeah, and, and, uh, and, uh, Justin Timberlake's 32nd birthday is- Is Sunday... is also the... St- Oh, and- So it's always, it's always St. Patrick's Day- Right... so.
• 11:54
Uh, Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday, Club G, uh, future plans. Yes. Um, also- Co- coworker Eric- Di- digressing or- No, yeah, he knows...
• 12:04
or bouncing around here, I also found out- We're not derailed, we're just- Um, we're just-... switching tracks... s- yeah I found out that- Oh, true. [laughs]... uh, Fixture Pizza on Sundays are dollar wings.
• 12:15
And, oh, wait, you guys aren't wing guys. The Milwaukee Minute. Damn it. Yeah, we've hit those. We're really pouncing around now, aren't we? [laughs] They have a great beer selection.
• 12:22
There's a, there's a bit of a rattle. [laughs] They have the best, yeah, they have the best Caesar salad in town. Just hold it, just hold the line.
• 12:28
[laughs] They have the best Caesar in town, and that's what I went there for, and then they're like, "Dollar wings." I'm like, "Okay." It is a good Caesar. It is a g- [laughs] yeah, it's a- It's a very good Caesar...
• 12:37
it's a very good Caesar salad... even, I worked on, I worked on one of them and it's worth it. It, yeah. Right. But I can only imagine wing night is akin to, like, Points East or- I got there at 1:30-...
• 12:53
o- other places... in the afternoon, sir. Okay. [laughs] There was no night. Oh. They, all they were displaying on the TV was the eagle that was sitting on the eggs. Is that the Decorah eagle? Uh- Decorah?...
• 13:05
I don't know if that was the Decorah one or not, but anyway, it was hilarious 'cause Sam, Strongman Sam showed up, and then later that night sent me a text message of his TV with the same eagle on it. Ah. At home.
• 13:17
I mean- You gotta look that up. I, the Decorah eagle was super famous for a while. So- I don't know if it's the same... and by the by, Sabatic is closed for the next couple weeks. Well. Fixture. By Fixture.
• 13:28
[laughs] Sabatic doesn't have food anyway. Right. So, no, you bring it in there. But, yeah, you can bring it in, but anyway, that's the Milwaukee Minute.
• 13:34
Uh, of, of all, of all of their, uh, uh, themed pies, Sabatic doesn't have one. Going back- Surprise... to bikes. [laughs] But I ride my bike down there...
• 13:45
going, g- going back to bikes, I got the funniest text message, wait, while I was at Fixture,
• 13:51
asking me, I'm gonna not disclose the person who sent this text message yet, asking me, "What happens if you squeeze a hydraulic disc lever too far and you don't have a wheel?" Or, or a spacer. I don't know.
• 14:07
Or a spacer in there. Do, do, or do I have to r- bleed the whee- the brake to be able to fit the wheel back in? I don't know, it depends on if the piston came out of the caliper or not. [laughs] Right.
• 14:17
And I responded, I'm like, "Generally, you're probably gonna have to open the caliper and see what's happens." And- Well, if you've got the- And then he said, "I used a Japanese crowbar." I'm not certain what that means.
• 14:28
[laughs] Well, maybe it- I hope this is, I hope you guys are starting to figure out YouTube- No, no, no, no... who this is. You get around, you get around the back like this. [laughs] Right.
• 14:36
  It's probably- Um, and- Oh, wait, no, that's a arm bar It's a wrestling- That's a, yeah, yeah... it's a wrestling- That's a Japanese arm bar.
• 14:41
[laughs] Have you, have you figured out who this might, who might make these expressions? What? A Japanese crowbar.
• 14:47
Who, who might have no idea about how to adjust a disc brake and also would say something like Japanese crowbar? I know. Dave Lunz. DiNardo. DiNardo Calucci. [laughs] Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
• 15:00
And I'm like, so then my, after I told him, like, "Well, yeah, that's pretty much what you gotta do," and he responds back with, or, or I had, I finally said, "But wait, you don't own any bikes with disc brakes.
• 15:11
You're a fucking elitist." Luddite. And he, uh, yeah, too. He's got a f- anyway, um, so he sends this picture of a pinion drive bike that he said was given to him. Yes. I just saw it yesterday- What?...
• 15:27
on my way home, a Priority. Somebody got a- Priority... free Priority? Yeah.
• 15:33
[laughs] How- That's the only way this person would ride a bike like this Well, it has fenders and a kickstand, so it is a civilized bicycle, and that w- that's always the mantra. Right.
• 15:44
And I told him, I was like, "At least it's civilized." Is there a Priority dealer around here? I don't think- I don't think so... they have dealers, really.
• 15:51
No, I think it was friend of a friend that just had it and was like- Oh... "Dude, I'm not going to- I'll take a free Priority single drive bike... I'm going, going to Europe and we don't need no bike anymore."
• 15:59
But he is Mr. Stick Shift, Mr., you know- Internal, three-... three-speed internally geared bike. Hmm. And suddenly, you know, he's gone full on automatic on us.
• 16:11
[laughs] Yeah, I'm gonna give him- He's gone full auto, baby... I'm gonna give him unrelenting shit. DiNardo, if you're listening, which I know you're not, unrelenting shit. We were discussing him, uh, over the weekend.
• 16:21
A Japanese what? With the- Crowbar... crowbar. I know- Maybe it's made out of bamboo or some such... I bet you could pri- I, I wouldn't be surprised. Well, that, I mean, there's, Park makes a tool.
• 16:31
There's plen- plenty of tools to spread the pads back out but it's only- Well, what was his midlife-... if they come out too far, that's the problem... his midlife crisis bike, was walnut?
• 16:40
It's a combination of walnut and maple. Oh, he's got one of those. The wooden- With, with a- Yeah. They, like, they're kind of like the blen- the two woods are ma- mated together. I'm not- Planked...
• 16:51
it's, it's, it's actually because- The plank... it was the first one this guy built with rim brakes, again, DiNardo, 11-speed Alphine, um, belt drive, um, it was the, it's actually named after him apparently.
• 17:04
[laughs] After- It had to be after- After the dude?... after DiNardo. Um- Oh, The DiNardo. [laughs] And that's the... It, but he is very anti-disc brake. That's why I know he got this bike for free. Oh.
• 17:15
You know, everyone can be wrong sometimes. He also, f- I saw him yesterday on the bike trail when I was coming back to service something at UWM. Once again, it was maybe 50-ish.
• 17:25
I see a guy coming at me, bald, no helmet- Yep... and a sweater. I'm like, "Who else would be coming at me? Hey, DiNardo." He had no idea it was me until about 10 seconds past him. Uh, along Edgewood?
• 17:40
'Cause I- Oak Leaf Trail. Oh. We were on the Oak Leaf. I was going back to campus, and he was heading to Illuminati. Oh, okay. I saw him at the end of the day- Mm... on the pass.
• 17:51
[laughs] Anyway, that's your Milwaukee 10 Minute. Small, small, small town- That's, DiNardo's taken the show over. [laughs] DiNardo. He hasn't, he hasn't been on for a while, so. He's been on, what, once?
• 17:59
Maybe one time, I think, a long time ago. He didn't even bring beer. I'm, I'm all tired out from talking DiNardo, so- [laughs] [bell ringing]... let's stop at the top of the hill here and- Get out of my family tree...
• 18:10
talk about, uh, talk about beer a little. [laughs] Jump out of my family tree... oh yeah, they're, they're related Uh, Dave brought the beer today Thanks, Dave...
• 18:20
from the, uh, Gathering Place just- And from Venture And from Venture And from Venture You got two for two-fer With two F's Venture with two F's Bruv A Bruv Berliner style with blueberry and vanilla.
• 18:32
Um, it is a tasty Berliner Weisse, and it ki- it's only like 4.7 or 5%, I don't remember. But it's, it's a tasty drinking fluffer beer that you can't actually slam because it's a little tart. Yeah, exactly.
• 18:46
It, yeah, the, uh [sighs] the heartburn. [laughs] Well, the, the, the- I-... the, the anticipation of heartburn- Oh, anticipation... it's like, it's like if you just like slam it- Yeah...
• 18:56
you get like, "Ugh" 'Cause I get more heartburn from like an IPA if I- Yeah... drink an IPA fast than I do a sour beer, but- Yeah, this is- It's tasty... this Gathering- It is.
• 19:06
As we were saying- The Gathering Place small batch release... it's kind of a muted- It's like a tart blueberry muffin, eating a tart blueberry muffin. It's, yeah, it's a muted sour. What are they calling it? Mosaic?
• 19:16
Mosaic Parade IPA. Oh, see mine's smudged out. Okay. It's a parade. 6.5. Yeah. It's a- I wanna try one of them. I assume- This is damn fine...
• 19:24
I assume because they use Mosaic hops in it that that's- Yeah, that would be why they would call it that. Um, I haven't had a Gathering Place beer for a while. Yeah.
• 19:31
It's been a minute or two 'cause they always close it before we can get over there. I don't know. Well, I was eating at Wonderland with- Wonderland... my daughter- Let me have another one...
• 19:40
and- Miguel, while you're in there... and so I just went there before this. Same, same? Or yeah. 'Cause I wasn't sure if anybody else would want a Venture. A Bruv. Bruv, Bruv. [laughs] Bruv. Bruv. Bruv. What's up, Bruv?
• 19:54
Bruv. All right. So, uh, I wanna just get, 'cause Dave's a consummate... Mm. Consummate? I don't know if that's the right word. He's an accomplished, that would be a better word, photographer and, uh, content guy.
• 20:06
Uh, I was thinking about the Omnium, we're back to the Omnium again. Okay. Uh-huh. See, see how I got back there? Um, that I think it would make a really cool camera platform because- Mm-hmm...
• 20:18
if you're like getting the, the, the r- the view of the rider, the thing is long enough, especially with that extension on it, that if you had one of these guys
• 20:27
mounted on there and the camera looking back at you- But I have, I have a drone. Oh, you have a drone. That's right.
• 20:33
And I have a Insta360 camera, so I can just extend that on an invisible selfie stick in front of me, and it looks like I've got a camera two, three feet in, in front of me.
• 20:45
But I did think that that would be a nice way to, um, get video of, of like, you know, the bike, 'cause I can stick it off to the side.
• 20:56
I can kinda like leverage it between, right in the middle between the front where Cowboy sits and me, and kinda angle the selfie stick up sideways. And then when it, you know, it,
• 21:09
it's got 360, so when I edit it, I just decide which direction I want it to be. It's a, that's a weird technology. It's two- The 360s, yeah...
• 21:17
it's two 180, 180 degree fisheye lenses that the software stitches the two- Yeah... together automatically, and you can sometimes see a little bit of where the stitching is. Of course.
• 21:30
But for goofy YouTube videos like I make, it's, it's- [laughs] With all of my, you know, 160 subscribers- There you go... fervent subscribers. [laughs] Well, we're gonna work on that. Massive influencer- Look...
• 21:43
that I am. [laughs] Right? Yeah. Well, I kind of, I didn't cheat my way into the 1,800 that are on Full Spectrum now, because I started that channel- Right... in 2014.
• 21:54
[laughs] I don't know if you watched the explainer video. It was a sleeper base. I felt like because- It's a sleeper base... people haven't had anything from that channel since 2017, and suddenly- Mm...
• 22:03
if they're subscribed to it, there's stuff showing up again. They're like, "What the hell is this? I don't remember- Yeah, they're-... subscribing for this show." "Ah, I'm getting all this."
• 22:09
So I had to explain what's happening with it and why I changed the name and- I mean, I don't care about followers and subscri- I, I, it's a creative outlet for me to do- Yeah... these sorts of things.
• 22:21
If I encourage anybody else to come up and explore our area or try bike packing or something like that, that's all it's really about, plus giving me an outlet to do something creative. Um, so that's all I use it for.
• 22:33
That said, I, if I only ever had like 10 views on every vid- [laughs] I might, I might quit. That's, that's- But if there's 150 to 300 or so- Then you're good... then I'm like, "Ah, there's enough people watching this."
• 22:47
That's kinda like the podcast show. [laughs] I know some of the same people keep listening for some reason, so- And I do- It's cool... yeah, I do, and you probably do- And get heckled... you probably do- From the-...
• 22:58
hear this too. Like, you hear, like occasionally just hear from somebody like, "I really love your podcast," you know? And you're like, "Well, all right." It was, it was a while ago, and you may not...
• 23:07
But we were literally... I was riding my bike home from work, and another guy comes up next to me, and I'm like, "Hey, how's it going?" He's like, "You're Full S- You, you're..."
• 23:19
At that point he's like, "You're Everyday Cycles." [laughs] And I'm like, "What?" I'm like... He's like, "I recognize your voice." [laughs] And I'm like, "Okay, this is weird." I'm like, "Yeah, I'm Tony." Mm.
• 23:29
And he's like... It was, I can't remember who it was now, but it was hilarious that he's like, "I listen to your show all the time." I'm like, "Okay, it makes me feel really cool."
• 23:37
[laughs] Well, so when- He's riding up Booth Street. He had just slashed his finger on his disc. That was like, he had it bandaged up. I'm like, "Dude, you need to go have it looked at."
• 23:44
And he's like, "I recognize your voice." I've done that twice. I'm like, "Okay, that's just weird." [laughs] Okay. We'll, we'll skip why he was reaching down to touch his disc brake- R- right... while riding. So- Yeah.
• 23:53
It was, it was a- So- He did admit it was a boner maneuver. [laughs] Maybe it was, maybe it was an impromptu cyclocross. Well, well, oh, there's a leaf stuck in my disc brake. Yeah. Mm. [laughs] And there goes a finger.
• 24:02
We'll skip that, but I have similar things happen occasionally. I'll be riding like the trails or a gravel road up, I mean, and like, "Hey, you're Sealy Dave." And I'll be like, "Yeah. Do I, do I know you?"
• 24:12
And they're like, "No, we recognize Cowboy." I'm like, "Oh, all right." [laughs] Yeah. Clickbait. [laughs] Cow- Cowboy's the... Yeah. [laughs] Well, that's why I think, I think when you get a little bit more, uh-...
• 24:22
you know, footage or whatever of doing the dogpacking with Cowboy, I think especially with the Omnium, it's going to be, you know, something- Well, there's just not a lot of content out there, you know? Yeah.
• 24:32
So, like if you're looking for it, yeah. It could be a great promo. No, I am gonna do a, a bunch of that, and I mentioned that to tell you to tell Brandon that.
• 24:40
And there, the guy that does that Mira Loppera YouTube channel that now is doing a seven continent tour with his dogs. Nice. Actually, I think his dog is only six, 'cause I don't think you can take a dog to Antarctica.
• 24:53
Oh. Um, but, um, unless you're Will Steger. But, uh, but he, uh, h- he's starting a website called dogpacking.com. He got the URL. Oh, nice. Um, he's doing it with a vet from Canada, so there's gonna be both, um- Yeah...
• 25:10
like, health content about what to do about- Yeah, we're not going... running your dog, and then also- Hey, hey... bike/dog content- Oh, that sounds like a great- [laughs]... about camping That sounds like a great cast.
• 25:20
I know. Yeah. Yeah, just throw me your backpack, and da, da, da. Yeah.
• 25:23
[laughs] Well, it is kinda weird, like, so if Cowboy, like, completely hates this, and I don't think he will, but if he completely, like, starts not wanting to come with me,
• 25:34
there's sled dog kennels all over Northern Wisconsin and the UP, and I'm gonna investigate. But to buy a sled dog, first of all, it's not easy. You've gotta, like, know people- Mm-hmm...
• 25:46
and you've gotta hang out with those people. And, and then I'd probably have paid the same amount of money for a sled dog from a, a championship kennel as I would for the entire Omnium [laughs].
• 25:58
[laughs] Well- Yeah, for sure. You have to get branded. [laughs] Right. So, so I think we're gonna push Cowboy and see how he does it for a while and... I know he likes coming. Right, right.
• 26:07
He likes running with the bike, and he likes- Mm-hmm... hanging out in camp. He just, when he sees a bike, he's like, "Ugh, you know, I don't wanna get on that thing." [laughs] Yeah.
• 26:17
I saw the video of you, like, trying to get- Yeah... getting a facial recognition... when he's behind me [laughs] Like, "Come on, now. Come on, come on. Pose for the camera," you know? [laughs] "Let's do this."
• 26:25
And he doesn't ride on your shoulders? No, he's not.
• 26:28
[laughs] And the guys that, the people that do, you see on, like, bikepacking.com with their dogs, like that, that guy with his dog Mira, um, most of them have started their dogs... Their dog's just- Yeah...
• 26:42
"I ride around on a bike all around the world. I don't live anywhere." Right, the dog's with me. And I ended up, I ended up with a dog as a puppy, so this is the only life the dog really knows. Right.
• 26:51
Whereas Cowboy, it's a little new to him. I've always had cargo bikes since I've had car...
• 26:56
He's always been toted around once in a while on a cargo bike, but it usually was, like, my Supermarché in a big Rubbermaid tub- Right, he's chilling in the belly...
• 27:04
where his head was just sort of [laughs] sticking out of it. Right. This is a little different. So did you know that the site is live? Have you checked it out since it- I haven't, no. Is it live now?
• 27:12
It's, it is live, and there, there some... They seeded it with some content. Um, not all of it is dogpacking oriented. There's- Right... general dog stuff... 'cause he's, one of the guys is a vet.
• 27:23
Right, which- One of the guys is a vet... seems like the- Eggs, eggs... and there's, you know, there's some product reviews of stuff for dogs that aren't necessarily- Eggs...
• 27:29
dogpacking, or not to say you couldn't take it with you if you're- Right... you know, if you've got a cargo bike, it can take all sorts of stuff with you. [laughs] Um, but yeah, it just, uh, went live. Oh.
• 27:38
I got a notice in an email a day or two ago. Oh, I'll check that out. All right. What about dag packing? Dag, dags. [laughs] Dag. Uh, another, I don't know- [laughs] I don't know if you knew- Just in case.
• 27:48
You never know... I don't know if you knew Pentabike was, was down for a while, if you're a Pentabike fan. I don't know Pentabike. Oh, it's just kind of a... It's a fun
• 27:59
logo basically that a guy in Denver came up with that's a pentagram with a- Oh... a bike with the, it's part of the, part of the design, but anyway, that's back if you- Who, who took it down, Satan?
• 28:10
[laughs] Sat- [laughs] Your site- Or wait, no, it's not a pentagram... your site is not secure, sir... it's a penta- pentra-what? Pentabike. Oh, I know, but no. What?
• 28:19
Instead of pentagram, there's another name as well to make it le- For the, the non-satanic one? Yeah, to make it less satanic. Oh. [laughs] Oh, like a star? Well, no, but penta something. Triple triangle? Penta...
• 28:30
I'll know this later. When you, when you- Oh, speaking of, like, thinking of something now and thinking about it later- Thinking now... Coast N Bikes. Yeah. There we go. I knew it. I was gonna tell you last week. Yep.
• 28:39
Yep. I'm sorry. Ugh, it was driving me- I listened and like-... out of my fucking mind... I was gonna text you... I was sitting there.
• 28:44
I went down a rabbit hole of- Caroline just liked one of, that thing I posted of my Omnium, and I was like- I went down a, I went... Yeah, I went down the Caroline rabbit hole.
• 28:53
I just, like, went photos and just went all the way to the bottom. What was- I'm like, "There has to be a logo." What was her partner's name? Tristan. Tristan. Tristan. Tristan Kline. Tristan Kline.
• 29:00
Although she's married now to a, a- A, somebody... I think it's- They're not married. Well. I don't believe they're married. Might be married. Okay. Just have a child together. Co-habitating.
• 29:07
I mean, I had a child together. Oh, yeah, that was married. Well, Tris- they were also business partners. Yeah. Tristan's- Right. That's right... Tristan's out in, uh, Denver- Okay... working for Namaste Solar. Oh.
• 29:17
Namaste. He booked from Milwaukee just, I don't know, it was right before the Sun Badger Solar got into the FBI investigation for- Did not know about that. Oh, yeah. It's pretty...
• 29:31
Lots of, uh, lots of scammer-y in the solar industry right at this point, I would think. Yeah, it is right now especially. You better believe it. It's- Yeah, you better watch it... you gotta be really careful.
• 29:37
Those are the same people that framed Pete Rose- Right... and faked the Apollo moon landing. [laughs] Uh. All right. I know it's not f- [laughs] I don't know where the hell that came from, but okay.
• 29:48
I know what's not fake is the, there's a, there's a Hope, the accessory and, uh, component maker in England. Right. Uh. Barnes Stable- Pretty creepy...
• 29:57
or some such, wherever they're located in England, there's an awesome factory tour video of it- Really?... that's like- It's gonna be in the show notes?
• 30:03
It is in the show notes, and it's definitely worth, worth watching because I didn't realize they'd been around- Oh, I saw that on bikepacking.com too, I think. I didn't look at it yet. That's what I told you earlier.
• 30:10
I, I'm not saying I don't get some hints from bikepacking.com- [laughs]... 'cause I do, and I am a paying member as well- Yeah... so I feel like I can- A collective, a member of the collective.
• 30:19
A collective member, although I have never won anything, and I feel it's a scam. I mean, neither have I. I kinda do too. It's a scam. But you know what? I wanna win something. You know what else might be a scam, though?
• 30:26
They may have 190,000, like, collective members who all pay $65 a year. [laughs] Yeah, well, that's, I mean, and that, isn't that what any content creator wants is something- Right...
• 30:37
some way to make a living and still do the stuff you want? Good on, good on those guys. Right? Well, they do a great job. It's definitely worth- Yeah, good on those guys... definitely worth doing.
• 30:44
And- So along the lines of strange- Prize winnings. So remember, hey, I get to work, uh, with Marcus for a day. Yes. Oh, yeah. You were supposed to be the DJ for the day. Guess what?
• 30:57
Radio Marcus ain't gonna be on the air no more. Marcus Doucette. Is he gonna have to- Not your Marcus Oh, right. Marcus Doucette. Is he staying in Costa Rica? No, he's, uh, just full-on, uh, production man- or- Okay...
• 31:08
production manager Oh, he's still there and he's- Yeah, yeah... okay... but he's, like, not doing shifts anymore. Oh. 'Cause he just got married- So I want, I want doing a damn shift-... in the Costa Rica...
• 31:15
with the brother, and he's like [groans] Well, make a fuss up to it And the people I was talking to, I had mentioned this Friday would have been perfect for me to do this. Oh.
• 31:26
And they never got back to me- And he was one of my-... until, like, today, because they made the announcement today- Oh... about everything, and I was like- Maybe that's why he scuttled off to Costa Rica- Scam, scam...
• 31:35
to get married and- Scam. That's fine with WMSU He was one of my favorite DJs Yeah, he's a great guy. He was a great guy. Yeah. And a really nice guy. So the fame- And a really nice guy... claim, claim to fame?
• 31:43
So what I- He rode my fat bike, Fatburger, for the first fat bike he ever rode. And then he bought- And then he bought one... 'cause he's got one of the original Pugsleys, right? Yeah, he's got a white one.
• 31:52
A white one, right? Yep. Uh, yeah. A white? Purple? No, no, uh... Purple? Is it purple? No, he's got a black. Oh, a black one. Black. But he's got one of the old ones. Yeah. Yeah. It's one of the old Pugsleys.
• 32:03
Necromancer. But, uh, so you're gonna get scammed out of your prize? Well, we're gonna want- we're gonna see what happens, aren't they? [laughs] Maybe you gotta do it.
• 32:11
Well, no, I mean, like, the, the volley email back was interesting, like, "Oh, we can... If you just tell us our, your s-" I don't know, they were trying to buy me off with T-shirts.
• 32:21
[laughs] At first I go, I'm like- I'll take 100... I'm like, "Uh, let's see." Yeah, that's like- Let me take a look at the concert- It's like getting a Gruber T-shirt Well, no.
• 32:28
Yeah You don't really need that many of them. Well, I'm gonna look at the concert schedule coming up here. MSU. And be like ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Yeah. There you go. You know, I could use tickets to this.
• 32:40
Some of these are not gonna hurt your wallet. Not at all. Adam, Adam Ant with English Beat in a couple weeks on a Monday ain't gonna bust your balls. [laughs] If anything else, I'm gonna... You know, I'll make it...
• 32:52
You know. Yeah. Little things like that. Make sure you make it- It'll be interesting... make it worth your while. Did you win KMFDM tickets? [laughs] No. I'm still within the 30-day- He can't. He can't win...
• 33:02
30, 30-day window because I won the Flat Out Friday tickets. So- And I'm a good boy, and I'm not gonna even- Yeah, don't, don't cheat the system even though they scam you. Exactly. And I saw them last year. All right.
• 33:13
Me too. We're heading towards the end here, folks. And, and, and, and guess what? I know half the lyrics. "We are KMFDM." [laughs] Yeah, they say that in their... I was there at the last show. Every tune. Yeah.
• 33:24
They say it pretty much in every tune. Yeah, yeah. It's awesome. It's kinda like Kid, it's kinda like Kid Rock. Yeah. "Doing it again." Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Uh, anything else, Dave?
• 33:31
Have you got anything going on we should know about up north that way? No. Um, it should... Conditions, uh, should be pretty much ideal for gravel riding.
• 33:40
The trails are closed because of the freeze-thaw cycle, but the gravel is, should be... The gravel was a little soft the last weekend of, like, Fat Bike Birkie and stuff like that, um, and, uh, just from melting.
• 33:53
But, uh, it should be pretty ideal, so. Well, if you want to hear about the Fat Bike Birkie, I know, uh, Spinner and Chewie are doing a show this week sometime. I will listen to that.
• 34:03
Sp- I don't know why they didn't, like, reach out to me while they were up there. Yes. Spinner was up there. I don't think Chewie was. Well, our place was empty because our- I know Spinner knew-... our racers canceled...
• 34:11
Spinner knew that too. He put, he put the word out to people, but I think he already had a place- Oh, he already had a place... that he was at. Oh, okay. Yeah, so he... Yeah. And he's been there before, so. Right.
• 34:18
The o- the other option I thought of was are you sure you didn't and you just were so drunk you don't remember? [laughs] Spinner. No, no, you had the beautiful pizza with the weird mushrooms.
• 34:30
[laughs] Yeah, I'll listen to that show on Spinner. All right, everybody. We'll do this thing, 'cause Dave says we can do this. [claps] Yeah. [claps] There we go. [laughs] It's the end of the show.
• 34:40
That means we're gonna play the tune and we're gonna get the hell out of here. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Come back next week Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Not Front 242 again.
• 34:50
  [upbeat rock music]
