- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. Maybe you have an unhealthy
- 0:43relationship with a substance. Maybe it's a behaviour.
- 0:48Now this hypnosis session was specifically working with
- 0:51someone. That had.
- 0:53An unhealthy relationship with cocaine and cigarettes.
- 0:58They knew. That it was.
- 0:59Costing them financially, costing their health, costing
- 1:03their opportunities, costing them emotionally in terms of
- 1:06shame and guilt and frustration, but it was also giving them
- 1:10something. And that might be?
- 1:13A sense of energy boost. Or it might a sense of
- 1:16connection or a sense. Of escapism.
- 1:19It was doing something for them. But at a huge.
- 1:23Cost and what was interesting is this this particular.
- 1:26Client had. Recalled a moment where they
- 1:29ended a relationship with their ex that was giving them
- 1:34something but it was taking a lot more and they reached a
- 1:37point where they just said. I'm done.
- 1:40And they were able to permanently walk away from that
- 1:43relationship, even though it was giving them some value but
- 1:46taking a lot more. This hypnosis session uses a
- 1:51romantic relationship as an analogy with a relationship with
- 1:57a substance and frames it as an abusive, deceptive, gaslighting
- 2:05kind of relationship where the relationship promises all of
- 2:09these wonderful things but actually takes a lot more.
- 2:13And it uses narcissistic. Language like gaslighting.
- 2:17It uses an element called the Stockholm Syndrome, which you
- 2:22may have heard in situations where the hostages start
- 2:26justifying. And defending.
- 2:28Their captors and a lot of people have experienced
- 2:31something like this because of the cognitive biases that take
- 2:36place When you're doing something fundamentally
- 2:38destructive, you start justifying it in different ways.
- 2:43It's a form of cognitive dissonance where you say, yeah,
- 2:46but it's not that bad or it's not causing you that much
- 2:48problem. And that delusion keeps people
- 2:51trapped in these unhealthy patterns, these unhealthy
- 2:55relationships. Imagine how you would feel if
- 2:58you were in a relationship and that you discovered that your
- 3:03partner was secretly poisoning you.
- 3:06Not by. Big amounts, but bits of
- 3:08something poisonous or toxic. Maybe putting bleach and things
- 3:12like that in your drinks or your food.
- 3:16If you figured that out, you would have an immediate emotive
- 3:21reaction to probably, you know, get very angry with your
- 3:24partner, but certainly leave that relationship.
- 3:28And a lot of substance abuse is like that.
- 3:31There is this element of ignoring the consequences, the
- 3:37health consequences, the destructive consequences, and so
- 3:41disassociating from that and associating into the pleasure or
- 3:45the good things. And I want you to think of who a
- 3:50person would be that you consider very attractive and
- 3:52desirable, but would be very toxic, deceitful.
- 3:58And you could imagine that if you were in a relationship like
- 4:01that, because they are very desirable, you might overlook
- 4:05all of their obvious flaws because it's giving you
- 4:08something that you value. And a lot of people have that
- 4:12kind of relationship with some kind of a substance or
- 4:16behaviour. This is designed to use an
- 4:20analogy of disassociation, looking at your life like a case
- 4:23file to actually see it for what it really is.
- 4:26Because if these kind of things were happening to someone that
- 4:29you care about or you love, you would probably try and assist or
- 4:32intervene for them to see what's really going on.
- 4:36It's more difficult to do that when it's within your own life.
- 4:38So if you have some kind of unhealthy relationship with
- 4:42something, maybe you're watching too much social media, maybe
- 4:46you're gambling too much, maybe it is a substance or overeating
- 4:49or sugary foods. Even though this was created
- 4:53for. A client where?
- 4:54Their thing was cocaine and cigarettes.
- 4:56It might be something different for you.
- 4:57So just think of it in terms of that.
- 5:00How could that be an unhealthy relationship?
- 5:03It was created for an individual.
- 5:05Not all of the suggestions are going to be suitable for you, so
- 5:08if you do like the idea of having a bespoke session, me
- 5:11working directly with you, there will be a link not only in the
- 5:15description but also on my website whichisadamcox.co.uk
- 5:19where you can book a free consultation call and we can
- 5:21explore working together. And now though, find a quiet,
- 5:25comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 5:28Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 6:00you breathe in, breathe in that slow, long, relaxing breath and
- 6:08as you exhale. Feel that Wonderful.
- 6:12Feeling of release, as if any tension, stress and worries are
- 6:24slowly but surely leaving your body in your outward breath.
- 6:32Breathing in relaxation and exhaling tension.
- 6:40Breathing in worthiness and exhaling shame.
- 6:49Breathing in certainty and exhaling doubt.
- 6:58I want you to feel that there is a profound difference between
- 7:05knowing what to do and feeling committed to doing what is best
- 7:16for you. There's one thing to say I'm
- 7:21done and another to be done, and just imagine priming those
- 7:32normal pathways that know the difference from knowing what to
- 7:42being someone that aligns with what serves you.
- 7:53The deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 7:58And the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 8:03So much so that each breath takes you deeper and deeper.
- 8:10Relaxed Now, that's it. Give permission to allow your
- 8:18nervous system to settle. Not into sleep, but into
- 8:27clarity. Clarity, not drowsiness, will
- 8:36set you free, and you've had moments of clarity in your past
- 8:43that enable decisions linked to feelings of certainty that
- 8:50change the trajectory of your life.
- 8:55So breathe in that clarity and exhale any confusion because
- 9:03this is not about escaping anything.
- 9:09What if it's about seeing something accurately and
- 9:15clearly, seeing something for what it really is, not what it
- 9:23pretends to be? Sometimes people have had an
- 9:31experience of observing their own life in the same way that
- 9:37perhaps they would a friend or a family member.
- 9:43As you breathe in and breathe out, maybe you can notice how
- 9:49easy it is to solve the problems of other people, and how much
- 9:54more. Difficult it.
- 9:56Is when those same problems our our own.
- 10:04So in a moment, I'm going to invite you the step out of the
- 10:10role of your current self and into a different role
- 10:16altogether. No longer is the person inside
- 10:23the experience with all of those words, connotations, meanings,
- 10:33words like user, addict, right, Wrong.
- 10:42Detach from that version of you experiencing and imagine that
- 10:50you're the one reviewing it, reviewing your own life like a
- 10:56stranger would. I want you to imagine Now you're
- 11:02seated at a desk, feeling calm, neutral and grounded.
- 11:09And maybe it's a big wooden desk, perhaps made of mahogany
- 11:13or something else, And in front of you is a file, a document.
- 11:25But it's not a judgement. It's not an accusation.
- 11:33Consider it a case review, and the name on the file is yours,
- 11:45but you're reviewing it in the same way you would if it was a
- 11:51file about someone else. Consider this forensic
- 11:59distancing. You get to review a relationship
- 12:06between you and something else, and as you open the file,
- 12:13imagine seeing a timeline when it started, Patterns of use and
- 12:22no use, moments of blowouts and moments of feeling.
- 12:36You don't want it, you don't need it, but observing it like a
- 12:42file. Observe promises and then those
- 12:49promises followed by consequences.
- 12:56This is a file not about you, but about a relationship that
- 13:00you have not with a person, but with a substance, and maybe more
- 13:08than one, because this is a relationship under review, and
- 13:17even though it's not with a person, it sometimes behaves
- 13:22exactly like 1 because for a while you've been in a
- 13:28relationship. With.
- 13:30Something charismatic, persuasive, knows how to push
- 13:36your buttons, knows exactly what to say.
- 13:44And maybe, maybe this is a relationship that represents
- 13:49cocaine or cigarettes, and this is an attractive partner,
- 13:57stylish, confident, seductive. And as you review the evidence,
- 14:05you notice something unsettling. But every time this partner
- 14:14promises relief, the outcome is depletion.
- 14:21Moments of high energy followed by energy down, health eroded,
- 14:26sleep disrupted, anxiety increased.
- 14:33And yet the partner always refuses any responsibility.
- 14:41It's almost like you're the problem.
- 14:47It's never them. You needed this.
- 14:53I helped you cope. This time doesn't count.
- 15:01But now notice something important.
- 15:06As the voice says, something like this will give you energy,
- 15:13clarity. This will wake you up.
- 15:19The body tells a different story.
- 15:23Tension, fatigue, acceleration followed by a crash.
- 15:34Maybe that voice says you're in control.
- 15:39And so the pattern repeats predictably.
- 15:44False promises with a similar aftermath.
- 15:51And from this position of observing the relationship not
- 15:57being in it, you see it clearly. This partner lies in real time,
- 16:09not loudly, but quietly and convincingly.
- 16:14Isn't that how gas lighting works?
- 16:22Telling you what you want to hear.
- 16:26Making up facts and information to fit a narrative that's never
- 16:31real. And as you continue reviewing,
- 16:37you realise something else secret.
- 16:44Sneaky poisoning. Not dramatic poisoning.
- 16:49Not the kind of poisoning in movies where one drink of
- 16:53something suddenly kills someone instantly.
- 16:57Not instant collapse. I want you to imagine observing
- 17:04a different form of small regular poisoning.
- 17:10Almost like micro dosing harm. Small enough to deny and slow
- 17:18enough to rationalize. Like someone who smiles while
- 17:25they slip poison into your drink.
- 17:30It's just enough that you don't notice at first until weeks turn
- 17:36into months and months into years.
- 17:42But observe how that cost accumulates, health
- 17:49deteriorates, self trust eroded, dignity diluted, shame
- 17:59increased. As you continue observing the
- 18:05file, thinking of yourself like another person in a relationship
- 18:11with something abusive, narcissistic, toxic.
- 18:17As you continue, you discover the most disturbing part of the
- 18:21file. You've started to defend your
- 18:26abuser. You make excuses for this
- 18:32destructive relationship, how the harm isn't quite so bad.
- 18:40Selective memory of the highs and waving off those lows.
- 18:45That shame, that feeling of fatigue, anxiety, maybe even
- 18:52paranoia. And what if from here, it's
- 18:58obvious This is not desire, This is Stockholm syndrome.
- 19:09You've bonded into this relationship through
- 19:13intermittent relief and harm, through fear and reward, through
- 19:20confusion. And notice the difference now,
- 19:28as you observe yourself like you're someone else, distance
- 19:33brings clarity. You've been too close to this,
- 19:40and that brought blindness. And then there's a moment in the
- 19:50file where everything changes. Imagine a sentence or a phrase,
- 19:58the simple comparison. If this was your child, a good
- 20:06friend, if this was happening to someone you love, would you
- 20:13intervene immediately? Feel that reaction.
- 20:22Feel it deep inside, not intellectually.
- 20:28Emotionally, because the moment that you wouldn't allow this to
- 20:35continue with someone you care about, the illusion collapses
- 20:46like a House of Cards falling down.
- 20:50Logically, emotionally, intellectually, it all collapses
- 20:54into a realization. The relationship fails the most
- 21:03basic test and I want you to feel as you observe.
- 21:10Seeing yourself now in this toxic relationship is abusive
- 21:18relationship full of lies, deceit, deception and control,
- 21:26grooming and punishing. Notice what happens next is you
- 21:33intervene as you would for someone you care about because
- 21:39you do care about you and not with anger, just a quiet
- 21:46grounded certainty. Imagine saying when thinking
- 21:54about this relationship, I see you, I know what you are, I
- 22:01refuse to continue, I'm done. Attraction is never enough to
- 22:13return to something toxic if you knew for.
- 22:20Certain. Your favorite food was laced
- 22:23with poison. It looking desirable and
- 22:27appetising is not enough. Once deception is seen clearly,
- 22:37it loses all of its leverage, persuasiveness and influence.
- 22:46And when you feel that you are indeed done, that you can't put
- 22:55the toothpaste back in the tube, you see it for what it really
- 22:58is, an abusive, deceitful, toxic relationship that takes more
- 23:07than it gives when emotionally you feel done.
- 23:12Let me know about nodding your head.
- 23:22That's it. Recall the time you also felt
- 23:27this way. Sometimes there can't be a lag,
- 23:32a lag time, a delay between the decision and when reality
- 23:37catches up. But in this moment, you're done.
- 23:43Everything else is just reality catching up with this decision.
- 23:53So allow yourself to see yourself forwards in time, maybe
- 23:59weeks or months from now. See this person who is done and
- 24:05see who this person has become. Maybe clearer, more grounded,
- 24:15self respecting. And then imagine that the idea
- 24:22of returning to that old relationship.
- 24:27Notice how it feels now, no longer tempting or exciting
- 24:32beneath you. Irrelevant, perhaps even
- 24:37embarrassing. Wouldn't it be embarrassing to
- 24:44go back to someone that abused you and calling it love?
- 24:52That identity no longer fits. Allow a new truth to settle.
- 25:01Not as effort but as alignment. You don't need to fight a toxic
- 25:08relationship, you just outgrow it.
- 25:13You don't crave poison once you recognize the taste.
- 25:20This has been a vicious wolf hiding in.
- 25:25Sheep's clothing. But you see it now, and the part
- 25:30of you that protects life, health and dignity is now back
- 25:35in charge, no longer to make excuses for this abusive
- 25:42relationship. And I want you to see yourself
- 25:49in that future. If any cravings, any physical
- 25:54sensations come up, that version of you will just assume.
- 25:58That you are. Thirsty.
- 26:00Or that your body is. Craving nutrition, not a
- 26:04substance, but something that gives you life vitality.
- 26:11When someone's been abused for years, what they need is
- 26:15healing, and I want you to feel that.
- 26:18Water and nutrients. Heal.
- 26:25Perhaps you can imagine yourself in the kind of situation that
- 26:28you would have an urge, an impulse of craving, and just
- 26:33imagine that temptation to return to that toxic
- 26:39relationship now creates a desire to drink a glass of
- 26:44water, to have some fruits and vegetables or a salad, to do
- 26:51something for you. Rather than falling into that
- 26:57trap of inviting even more abuse when you're unconscious, accepts
- 27:08that you've outgrown that toxic, abusive relationship.
- 27:12Let me know by nodding your head.
- 27:17That's it. And don't be surprised if you
- 27:20have thoughts, ideas, even dreams about what life is like
- 27:26now that you're done with this relationship.
- 27:31It doesn't serve you anymore. I need to imagine very soon I
- 27:43will count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 27:49And you will awaken as someone that has seen something that
- 27:56cannot be unseen, someone that doesn't drink from poisoned
- 28:01wells anymore, someone that no longer defends their capital.
- 28:09So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 28:13nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 28:17wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 28:20here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken the
- 28:30done version of you. 123 Waking up. 456 More alert 7-8 Open your
- 28:41eyes. Open your eyes. 910 Wide awake,
