- 0:00Speaker 1: Speaking of Notre Dame, let's talk about them and where
- 0:02Speaker 1: they go for just a moment. Mistakes in this game were,
- 0:08Speaker 1: were obviously the, you know, BYU pulled out all the
- 0:13Speaker 1: tricks and Kalani Satake coach at BYU talked about a
- 0:16Speaker 1: little bit, but Notre Dame with the fumble there at
- 0:19Speaker 1: the end of the first half was, was pretty big.
- 0:21Speaker 1: That felt like, man, if you could have scored there,
- 0:24Speaker 1: you might've had a really good chance to, well, you
- 0:26Speaker 1: would have cut it to what one score. even a
- 0:29Speaker 1: field goal there would have, would have been huge. You
- 0:32Speaker 1: had that mistake. You had others in this game. Are you,
- 0:35Speaker 1: I know you, Tom, you talked about like, we just
- 0:37Speaker 1: don't know what Notre Dame is in this segment presented
- 0:40Speaker 1: by prize picks, but are you thinking that they're still
- 0:44Speaker 1: a pretty good team?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Where'd you have them?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Still have them as a pretty good team in my poll.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I put them at number eight ahead of them. I have,
- 0:55Speaker 3: Ole Miss, Indiana, Tennessee, UCLA, BYU, Ohio State, and Miami.
- 1:00Speaker 3: So I thought that was fair, honestly. Looking at Notre Dame,
- 1:05Speaker 3: to me this game was not like, oh, they played
- 1:07Speaker 3: badly or something like that. I said before, they didn't
- 1:11Speaker 3: run the ball exactly the way that they hoped, but
- 1:13Speaker 3: they still had 3.8 yards per carry. So you're not
- 1:16Speaker 3: mad about that, but you're not thrilled about that. You'd
- 1:18Speaker 3: like the total to be better if you're If you're
- 1:21Speaker 3: Notre Dame, if anything, it just felt like missed opportunities
- 1:24Speaker 3: in the passing game. CJ Carr had two passes that
- 1:27Speaker 3: absolutely should have been touchdowns in the first half, and
- 1:29Speaker 3: he missed by just that much. And that's football.
- 1:31Speaker 2: That's quarterbacking.
- 1:33Speaker 3: The play at the end of the second quarter going
- 1:35Speaker 3: into halftime where he spiked the ball, that is something
- 1:38Speaker 3: where it's just, it's not a backbreaker, it's just a
- 1:41Speaker 3: moralizing more than anything. And that is a very uncharacteristic
- 1:45Speaker 3: thing for CJ Carr. And I think you've seen as
- 1:47Speaker 3: the season has gone on, They rely on C.J. Carr,
- 1:51Speaker 3: but they don't really put the game on C.J. Carr.
- 1:54Speaker 3: It's a very complementary offense and a complementary football team,
- 1:58Speaker 3: all three phases. So to see Notre Dame be put
- 2:01Speaker 3: in a situation in the second half where they had
- 2:03Speaker 3: to throw their way back into it and ultimately C.J.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Carr finishes with about 50% completion percentage, it's not what
- 2:10Speaker 3: Notre Dame wants to be. They want to get out
- 2:13Speaker 3: in front. They want to run the football effectively. They're
- 2:15Speaker 3: better off playing with a lead, obviously, in a situation
- 2:18Speaker 3: like this. And I think their defense finally ran up
- 2:21Speaker 3: against an offense that had a good scheme and had
- 2:25Speaker 3: legitimate FBS players that could beat them, whether it be
- 2:28Speaker 3: on the ground or through the air. So credit to
- 2:31Speaker 3: BYU once again. I think Notre Dame, they're fortunate the
- 2:34Speaker 3: rest of the way. It's still easier in the grand
- 2:38Speaker 3: scheme of things. You get a bye. You go to Navy.
- 2:40Speaker 3: And I know some people say, OK, playing up against
- 2:42Speaker 3: the option is not that easy. But still, that could
- 2:45Speaker 3: be a grinded out type of win. And then you
- 2:48Speaker 3: host Miami right after that on November 7th. Then it's
- 2:52Speaker 3: hosting Boston College. The SMU game looks a little bit
- 2:55Speaker 3: more scary than it did a few weeks ago, but
- 2:58Speaker 3: SMU is still super turnover prone. So it's like, all right,
- 3:02Speaker 3: I still like Notre Dame. At home in that game,
- 3:04Speaker 3: you finish the year out inside the dome at Syracuse.
- 3:07Speaker 3: So I still like the rest of their schedule, but
- 3:11Speaker 3: is this a situation where the only thing that keeps
- 3:13Speaker 3: Notre Dame in the college football playoff is a contract?
- 3:17Speaker 4: Being at number 11, as long as you're at number 11,
- 3:20Speaker 4: you're in the playoff. Bottom line. I'm back to having
- 3:24Speaker 4: questions about Notre Dame's offense.
- 3:25Speaker 3: I am.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I'm sorry. I had my questions about could you run
- 3:29Speaker 4: the football efficiently? What did you have with Nolan James
- 3:32Speaker 4: and E.S. Williams? What did you have with everyone else
- 3:35Speaker 4: in this roster? You averaged 3.2 yards of play. And credit,
- 3:39Speaker 4: it's against a damn good defense. But the bottom line
- 3:42Speaker 4: is that you have to have second punch. I don't
- 3:45Speaker 4: know if I can trust that you have a number
- 3:47Speaker 4: one wide receiver that you can throw it to. And
- 3:48Speaker 4: my entire question going into the year with Notre Dame was, guys,
- 3:52Speaker 4: I like Notre Dame's team. I like Notre Dame's offense.
- 3:55Speaker 4: But you need a number one receiver. You need a guy.
- 3:58Speaker 4: You need that weapon. And you're the Green Bay Packers.
- 4:01Speaker 4: A bunch of number twos that hopefully will each take
- 4:04Speaker 4: on over one game and be that difference maker. And
- 4:07Speaker 4: so far it was working. Yeah, Jordan Faison had a
- 4:10Speaker 4: really good game. Micah Gilbert had a really good game.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Jaden Greathouse could have some good moments. It felt like
- 4:16Speaker 4: yesterday you needed to have yourself a game changer that
- 4:20Speaker 4: could find ways to get on open. And they knew
- 4:21Speaker 4: you didn't. So lo and behold, this is what happened.
- 4:24Speaker 4: You were able to be put in long situations where
- 4:28Speaker 4: they knew you had to throw it and you didn't
- 4:30Speaker 4: have an answer on the outside. My bigger question at
- 4:33Speaker 4: this point, I think really comes down to people who
- 4:35Speaker 4: are saying that that last play is the reason you
- 4:38Speaker 4: lost the football game. Yes. I will be the first
- 4:41Speaker 4: to say they should have put a second back on
- 4:43Speaker 4: the clock. You heard the big 12 come out with
- 4:45Speaker 4: a statement that said you should have put a second
- 4:47Speaker 4: back on the clock.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip of the power
- 4:50Speaker 1: to here on the college football addiction network. But first
- 4:53Speaker 1: I want to tell you about our friends over at

- 5:06Speaker 4: Lamb.
- 5:06Speaker 1: We took the more on his touchdowns. We took the
- 5:08Speaker 1: more on Jordan Love. We took the more on Dak
- 5:11Speaker 1: Prescott's passing yards. Expect a lot of points in that
- 5:14Speaker 1: Dallas versus Green Bay game. You can get on the

- 5:42Speaker 1: out my Rays. And then, of course, college football, the
- 5:44Speaker 1: most important thing that happens in this country.
- 5:47Speaker 2: We appreciate Price Picks for their support. Now back to
- 5:50Speaker 2: the clip.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Notre Dame, when you have two starting fielding positions in
- 5:55Speaker 4: BYU's territory and you get field goals, they'll feel bad
- 5:58Speaker 4: for you. Score more points.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 6:00Speaker 4: There's ways and opportunities for you to be able to answer.
- 6:02Speaker 4: When you get the ball down at the three-yard line
- 6:05Speaker 4: and you spike it, that leads to a fumble. That's
- 6:08Speaker 4: on you. That's not on officiating. I'm not blaming officiating
- 6:11Speaker 4: for that. The team that made.
- 6:13Speaker 2: The pure mistakes.
- 6:14Speaker 3: One more.
- 6:15Speaker 2: You had the ball with eight minutes to go and
- 6:18Speaker 2: the lead.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And again, we see defense as good as BYU's defenses.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I know I'm cutting you off here. As good as
- 6:24Speaker 1: BYU's defenses is.
- 6:26Speaker 2: And we know that.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Defenses wear down and so it's the fourth quarter you've
- 6:31Speaker 1: got the lead eight minutes to go get a couple
- 6:33Speaker 1: of first downs man get a couple of first downs
- 6:36Speaker 1: and make it incredibly tough on them byu gets that
- 6:38Speaker 1: ball back with three minutes to go i'm not sure
- 6:40Speaker 1: they win now they might because of bear magic but
- 6:43Speaker 1: again do something but you went three now you had
- 6:45Speaker 1: your chances so all three of those things two times
- 6:49Speaker 1: inside of byu's field goal range all you came away
- 6:51Speaker 1: with was six points yep The fumble at the end
- 6:54Speaker 1: of the first half.
- 6:55Speaker 2: And again, you had the lead in this game in
- 6:57Speaker 2: the fourth quarter with the ball. Three and out. Shout
- 7:00Speaker 2: out BYU's defense there for that.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Stop.
- 7:02Speaker 2: But Notre Dame's got to be better than there.
- 7:04Speaker 4: You have to. And again, your defense played well. It
- 7:07Speaker 4: played very well at times. It also gave up the
- 7:10Speaker 4: big explosives. Again, they were able to find their running ways.
- 7:14Speaker 4: They were able to run the football efficiently enough without
- 7:17Speaker 4: LJ Martin. there are the concerns and i know you
- 7:20Speaker 4: lost your best pass rusher early on in the game
- 7:22Speaker 4: on the opening drive guys bear was electric bear was
- 7:26Speaker 4: surgical bear wasn't holding on to the football for dear
- 7:29Speaker 4: life waiting for someone to get on open he saw
- 7:31Speaker 4: his reads he saw his opportunities and he said one
- 7:34Speaker 4: two three throw one two three throw you weren't going
- 7:37Speaker 4: to pressure him in this situation so i got my
- 7:39Speaker 4: questions there you need to win against miami You need
- 7:43Speaker 4: to win against Miami. I'm not going to sit here
- 7:46Speaker 4: and say it is a guarantee that you will be
- 7:48Speaker 4: in the college football playoff if you see a bunch
- 7:51Speaker 4: of 10-2 teams in the SEC and the Big Ten
- 7:55Speaker 4: somehow come away. And by the way, there is a world,
- 7:57Speaker 4: we're now at Oregon, because of a win in late
- 8:01Speaker 4: heroic magic by Dylan Riley.
- 8:03Speaker 1: 3 a.m.
- 8:04Speaker 3: In Miami.
- 8:07Speaker 4: There's an opportunity for him and that Oregon team to
- 8:09Speaker 4: get right back in this thing. Julian Sainz hurt at
- 8:12Speaker 4: this point. I don't know if you're going to see
- 8:15Speaker 4: Ohio State survive. You're not going to be able to
- 8:17Speaker 4: convince me with your two most challenging games being against
- 8:20Speaker 4: BYU and Miami that you're going to be in that
- 8:24Speaker 4: number 11 spot. You can't promise that. You have to
- 8:27Speaker 4: win this next one and you have to look better.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Now again, the beauty of what is the schedule for you,
- 8:33Speaker 4: you have a mulligan. This was your mulligan. You cannot
- 8:37Speaker 4: afford to find a way to shoot yourself in the
- 8:39Speaker 4: foot against SMU or shoot yourself in the foot against Miami.
- 8:43Speaker 4: You have to win both of those games because then
- 8:46Speaker 4: you are a guaranteed lock-in out of top 11. But
- 8:48Speaker 4: if not, guys, we need to have an honest conversation
- 8:51Speaker 4: of does Notre Dame belong in the playoff with their scheduling?
- 8:56Speaker 4: Because I got my questions with the offense and there
- 8:58Speaker 4: is a world where, yeah, their offense does not show
- 9:01Speaker 4: on up in one of those two matchups again.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I thought gray house played great.
- 9:07Speaker 1: You know, and I think he needs to really emerge
- 9:09Speaker 1: as that one, but you do have phase on there too.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Like you have, I, I, he was huge on that
- 9:16Speaker 1: last drive, obviously getting them down there. I will say
- 9:20Speaker 1: this on beating Miami. They need to be Miami. Obviously
- 9:25Speaker 1: I am not completely sold that they can't get in
- 9:28Speaker 1: at 10 and two, but I think the question at
- 9:31Speaker 1: that point is going to become, Has UCLA laid waste
- 9:35Speaker 1: to the rest of their schedule? Has the SEC continued
- 9:38Speaker 1: to cannibalize itself? Do we get another weekend where everybody
- 9:41Speaker 1: ahead of you loses and the SEC is all a
- 9:44Speaker 1: bunch of three loss teams now? Well, then at that point,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you know, maybe we put Notre Dame in what happens
- 9:49Speaker 1: with Ohio state. What happens with the big 12 that
- 9:52Speaker 1: we just mentioned? Does SMU find their way into the
- 9:55Speaker 1: ACC championship? They're ranked 23rd right now in the AP poll.
- 9:59Speaker 2: There's a lot.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I think I don't want to, I certainly would not
- 10:03Speaker 1: say Notre Dame is out with a loss to Miami.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I just think that they're going to need some help
- 10:07Speaker 1: around them because they don't have the Trump card. You
- 10:11Speaker 1: beat Miami, the number one team in the country, most
- 10:14Speaker 1: likely when you play them, there's your Trump card you're in.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I think they'd be better off losing to SMU and
- 10:19Speaker 1: beating Miami for what it's worth. If you had to
- 10:22Speaker 1: lose one game, lose to SMU, beat the number one team.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I think the committee's tends to value big wins more
- 10:29Speaker 1: than not. I'm not telling you to go lose to SMU.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Sure.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Right. I think, I think if you.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Beat SMU, SMU will finish unranked and they'll say, who
- 10:38Speaker 1: did you beat? If you beat Miami dropped SMU, I
- 10:41Speaker 1: think the committee would be more, more likely to put
- 10:44Speaker 1: you in, in that scenario.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I don't think either one of them is good.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You probably need to finish 11-1 to ensure that you're in.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I think Notre Dame, they need to win out for
- 10:56Speaker 3: it to be a sure thing. The second you lose
- 10:59Speaker 3: one more game, regardless of who it's to, it's everything
- 11:02Speaker 3: being left up to chance. And the whole point of
- 11:05Speaker 3: this season for Notre Dame was the quote-unquote revenge tour.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I have called it the vindication tour. You've heard Marcus
- 11:10Speaker 3: Freeman talk about leave no doubt. You have to win
- 11:13Speaker 3: out to leave no doubt. If you lose another game,
- 11:16Speaker 3: whether it be to Miami or to SMU or freaking
- 11:19Speaker 3: Navy the next time that they're out, now it's coin flip.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Now you're hoping that they put you in. And we
- 11:25Speaker 3: all understand how the game is played in the college
- 11:27Speaker 3: football playoff. It's going to be like, oh, look at
- 11:28Speaker 3: that big brand. Let's make sure Notre Dame is sneaking
- 11:31Speaker 3: in there at number 11. But still, you're leaving it
- 11:33Speaker 3: up to chance if you lose one more game.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Here's where I am, and I've been this way forever.
- 11:39Speaker 4: If you have two losses, I don't pity you for
- 11:40Speaker 4: being left out of the playoff.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I don't.
- 11:42Speaker 4: You give the playoff committee reasons to keep you out.
- 11:46Speaker 4: And the bottom line, and I've said this a million times,
- 11:48Speaker 4: I'll continue to preach it until the end of time.
- 11:50Speaker 4: At least until we get to 24 teams and none
- 11:52Speaker 4: of this shit matters. The college football playoff committee is
- 11:56Speaker 4: not looking for ways to put you in. They're looking
- 11:59Speaker 4: for reasons to keep you out. Losing to Miami or
- 12:02Speaker 4: losing to SMU would be a reason to keep you out.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Who have you beaten? Who have you played? And also,
- 12:10Speaker 4: to be fair, if it's Miami, you also have to
- 12:13Speaker 4: hope that Miami does not lose more games. You have
- 12:15Speaker 4: to hope that SMU does not lose more games for
- 12:17Speaker 4: that win to look as promising as it possibly could.
