  SPEAKER_00: If you've been on the We podcast these past couple of weeks, you know, you've heard some pretty challenging emotional times for myself and my family.

  SPEAKER_00: A couple of weeks ago, I had to say goodbye to a good friend, my 11-year-old German shepherd named Zeus.

  SPEAKER_00: And as all of us know, you know, pets become a part of our family literally.
• 3:15
  SPEAKER_00: And for a lot of us, the love of a pet is quite honestly the closest thing to unconditional love we ever get.
• 3:22
  SPEAKER_00: So when we have to say goodbye and we have to, you know, go through that phase, you know you're doing the right thing for the person or the I keep calling Zeus a person.

  SPEAKER_00: He was like a person in my house for my dog Zeus, but it hurts, you know.

  SPEAKER_00: So I explained in that episode, it's a couple episodes ago now, what I did.

  SPEAKER_00: And I've had just an amazing outcry of love and support and empathy, which tells me, you know, most of us, most people know what that feeling is like because, you know, having a pet is part of life these days.

  SPEAKER_00: And as the adult in the family, you know, adults are the ones that have to make those difficult decisions when the time is what it was.

  SPEAKER_00: And in Zeus's life, he was over 11 years old, and it was time.

  SPEAKER_00: And I explained all that and I did it from a place of the bottoms, literally in the depths of my grief.

  SPEAKER_00: And I said to people, you know, during that podcast, I could have waited.

  SPEAKER_00: I could have.

  SPEAKER_00: I didn't because the We podcast is a podcast about experience, strength, and hope.

  SPEAKER_00: And what better way for me to share my experience and my strength than sharing with all of you, my friends, the experience while I was in the center of it.

  SPEAKER_00: I lived in this house.

  SPEAKER_00: Zeus moved in with us, and those first days of silence, which I'm practicing a different level of silence these days.

  SPEAKER_00: And now it's silence and stillness because literally it's just me in the house most of the time.

  SPEAKER_00: And I have to tell you, it's been different and it's been very rewarding.
• 5:23
  SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to share some of those rewards as we go along in this particular podcast today.

  SPEAKER_00: I'm going to ask you have you started your practice of silence yet?

  SPEAKER_00: It's a powerful thing to get practiced at.

  SPEAKER_00: It isn't meditation.
• 5:37
  SPEAKER_00: Meditation is when you're in the conscious quest to calm the voices.

  SPEAKER_00: I'm not telling you to calm your voices.
• 5:43
  SPEAKER_00: I'm saying sit there and be an observer to your voices.
• 5:47
  SPEAKER_00: Sit there with no external stimulus for an extended period of time.
• 5:53
  SPEAKER_00: In other words, no music, no phones, no TV, no radio, that type of stuff.

  SPEAKER_00: And observe your thoughts, which is fine.

  SPEAKER_00: And if the thoughts get aggressive or abusive or hateful or hurtful or whatever, write them down.

  SPEAKER_00: You know, keep practicing the first step.

  SPEAKER_00: And the more you're a witness to your own voices, the more you're going to hear a softer voice.

  SPEAKER_00: The more you're a witness of the big, bold, I got to get back to work.

  SPEAKER_00: I can't do this that long.

  SPEAKER_00: Jesus, Joe must be nuts.

  SPEAKER_00: Why would I want to be in the side?

  SPEAKER_00: Whatever your voices are saying, right?

  SPEAKER_00: The more you listen to them and not follow them, the more you're going to hear a quieter voice, which is truly your higher power.

  SPEAKER_00: And the higher power voice is important because this particular episode, we're going to talk about how do we move forward and actually have a successful experience in living our purpose and living our passion, in living why you were literally born in the next generation.

  SPEAKER_00: And that's what today's episode is all about.

  SPEAKER_00: You know, for myself, I can tell you, I'm living a passion right here with the We Podcast.

  SPEAKER_00: I'm living it now.

  SPEAKER_00: And I can't explain the hows or the whys my path was so aggressive.

  SPEAKER_00: February the 16th, 1990, when I was 27 years old at the time, I was an active drinker, I was an active pot smoker.

  SPEAKER_00: You name it, I was doing it addictively.
• 7:25
  SPEAKER_00: Thank God the drugs of today didn't exist back then, because I would have been doing them too.
• 7:30
  SPEAKER_00: I would have been.
• 7:31
  SPEAKER_00: That was just my personality.
• 7:33
  SPEAKER_00: I worked hard, big personality in the work world, entrepreneur.
• 7:38
  SPEAKER_00: But I reached that spot where nothing I was doing, literally in the human sense, was causing any relief anymore.

  SPEAKER_00: I couldn't drink enough, I couldn't smoke enough.
• 7:49
  SPEAKER_00: I couldn't sex enough.
• 7:50
  SPEAKER_00: I couldn't work enough.
• 7:51
  SPEAKER_00: There wasn't enough.
• 7:54
  SPEAKER_00: And the pain was just there.
• 7:57
  SPEAKER_00: And that's when I reached that spot where I said, I need help.

  SPEAKER_00: And when I said that, my whole world changed.
• 8:06
  SPEAKER_00: Physically, no.
• 8:08
  SPEAKER_00: Spiritually, yes.

  SPEAKER_00: Physically, did anything literally change?
• 8:14
  SPEAKER_00: Did I stop drinking, drugging, sexing, working out, working all the time?
• 8:17
  SPEAKER_00: No, I didn't.
• 8:18
  SPEAKER_00: But emotionally, everything changed in that moment.
• 8:24
  SPEAKER_00: Not healed, but it was the largest gap in the entire human transformation process.
• 8:33
  SPEAKER_00: The spot of I've got it, I'm doing it, I can do it.
• 8:38
  SPEAKER_00: If it's to be, it's up to me.
• 8:40
  SPEAKER_00: I can handle this.
• 8:41
  SPEAKER_00: No one can make me, I'm okay.
• 8:43
  SPEAKER_00: That spot of strength, you just literally believe that you know that you can handle it.

  SPEAKER_00: To the gap, and then the space that says, I need help.
• 8:57
  SPEAKER_00: And the gap between I've got it and I need help is eternity, quite honestly.

  SPEAKER_00: It's the cavern that people have to travel across in their own time.

  SPEAKER_00: And nobody can make that decision on when that time is for you.
• 9:21
  SPEAKER_00: And nobody can make that decision for when that time is for a loved one, for your kids, for your partner, for your parents, for whoever.

  SPEAKER_00: That gap between I've got it, I can handle it, and I need help.
• 9:37
  SPEAKER_00: The space between those two places of consciousness is eternity because a lot of people never never transform it, never shift into the next place.

  SPEAKER_00: They just don't.

  SPEAKER_00: You don't have to hit a hard bottom to go into the transformation of your emotional sense of self and your spiritual sense of self.
• 10:13
  SPEAKER_00: You just don't.
• 10:14
  SPEAKER_00: And especially in this day and age, in this era of time, where humanity is growing so fast that more and more people are just waking up and they're just knowing that they're different.

  SPEAKER_00: They just knowing they're in a different spot.

  SPEAKER_00: They just know that something is crazy inside and they don't know what the knowing is.
• 10:36
  SPEAKER_00: They don't know how to act on the knowing, they don't know what to do.

  SPEAKER_00: And for many of you, that experience happened many years ago.

  SPEAKER_00: And you sought therapy, or you saw it 12 steps, or you sought influencers online, some of these amazing new thought movement people.

  SPEAKER_00: I see a lot of these people out there that have millions of followers, and for decades they have been voices of hope, voices of support, voices of possibility to have.

  SPEAKER_00: And I applaud them.
• 11:08
  SPEAKER_00: I do.

  SPEAKER_00: Is the We podcast about changing your mind?
• 11:12
  SPEAKER_00: No, it's not.
• 11:13
  SPEAKER_00: The We podcast is about healing the reason your mind is wacky in the first place.

  SPEAKER_00: The We podcast is about healing the reason why you need to change your mind.

  SPEAKER_00: Because quite honestly, folks, if your mind was just full of I'm love and I'm wonderful and I make a million dollars and everything is bliss, you wouldn't need to change it, right?

  SPEAKER_00: That's what I was saying when I was talking about Zeus and Zeus's last days, last hours.
• 11:40
  SPEAKER_00: He wouldn't eat.
• 11:41
  SPEAKER_00: From July the 28th, he stopped eating.
• 11:44
  SPEAKER_00: Now, this is a hundred and plus pound German shepherd who ate 50 pounds of food a month.
• 11:51
  SPEAKER_00: I use the example of a salad bowl.
• 11:54
  SPEAKER_00: I don't care who you are, if you're making a salad for your Thanksgiving dinner, you know the bowl I'm talking about.

  SPEAKER_00: That was the size of the bowl that Zeus would eat of food every day.
• 12:05
  SPEAKER_00: And he stopped.
• 12:07
  SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I did everything I knew to do, but I knew that was because, you know, Zeus had been going through the challenge, and I knew he was coming closer to the end of his days.

  SPEAKER_00: And I said, I wasn't going to confuse hope with allowance.
• 12:25
  SPEAKER_00: Hope would have been Joe putting Joe's emotional desires and needs in front of Zeus's needs.
• 12:34
  SPEAKER_00: Zeus was on his own path.
• 12:36
  SPEAKER_00: I was a witness to a spiritual being called my dog Zeus, my hundred-pound German shepherd.
• 12:44
  SPEAKER_00: I was a witness to his spiritual exiting.
• 12:48
  SPEAKER_00: I was.
• 12:49
  SPEAKER_00: Now it's easy to say after the fact, right?
• 12:52
  SPEAKER_00: I only grieved every day at the core of my depths for three solid days.
• 12:59
  SPEAKER_00: And that was the end of it.

  SPEAKER_00: For weeks before I knew it was coming, and I grieved a lot.
• 13:06
  SPEAKER_00: And I say all that because hope is one of those experiences where you're trying to give comfort to your now moment because your now moment is uncomfortable.

  SPEAKER_00: That's what hope is.
• 13:18
  SPEAKER_00: Anything wrong with that?
• 13:19
  SPEAKER_00: No.
• 13:20
  SPEAKER_00: But hope is one of those experiences that's it's a human experience, it's not a spiritual experience.

  SPEAKER_00: And is there anything wrong?
• 13:29
  SPEAKER_00: No.
• 13:29
  SPEAKER_00: It's all part of the transformation that we're going through.
• 13:34
  SPEAKER_00: And the world is really changing.
• 13:37
  SPEAKER_00: It is.
• 13:38
  SPEAKER_00: And on the We Podcast, I have certain passions that if you really, if you went back through all 46 of my episodes, 47, whatever it is now, you'll see that I've got certain themes that I talk about all the time.

  SPEAKER_00: And I talk about all those themes because they are deep passions for me.

  SPEAKER_00: Because by sharing it now, it makes sense for me of the misery I lived through.

  SPEAKER_00: If I wasn't able to give a reason now, my whole life meant nothing.

  SPEAKER_00: The seven years of darkness, the grief I went through after my past wife left, the grief I grieved when Zeus transcended, the pain I felt when my oldest son was grieving, the death of his second mom, as he calls her, my mother, his grandmother.

  SPEAKER_00: You know, we go through life's difficulties.
• 14:39
  SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times we don't know why we have to go through it.
• 14:44
  SPEAKER_00: We say that I used to say all the time, if God loved me, I wouldn't be in so much pain.

  SPEAKER_00: That's where I came up with the F you God, literally.
• 14:54
  SPEAKER_00: Prior to being in pain, I wasn't that.
• 14:56
  SPEAKER_00: I didn't have vulgar adjectives prior to a spiritual essence.

  SPEAKER_00: I didn't.
• 15:00
  SPEAKER_00: I just couldn't believe, I didn't believe the religious perspective that I was taught my whole life.

  SPEAKER_00: I didn't believe it.
• 15:07
  SPEAKER_00: I said, if that's what God's all about, burning in hell and all that, I don't believe it.

  SPEAKER_00: So I just said, you know, God, you leave me alone, I'll leave you alone, and we're good.

  SPEAKER_00: I didn't have a I hate God concept prior to all my pain.
• 15:23
  SPEAKER_00: But I had night after night after night after night after night after night of misery.

  SPEAKER_00: And I said, There's no way there could be a God because a human shouldn't have to go through this.

  SPEAKER_00: And many years later, I heard a voice say, God didn't create your pain, you did.
• 15:45
  SPEAKER_00: God wasn't the source of your pain, your environment was.
• 15:49
  SPEAKER_00: And it took me many years to realize why did I have to go through that?
• 15:54
  SPEAKER_00: Well, literally, over the past 10 years, 15 years, I've been able to support men, especially.

  SPEAKER_00: And I have to say, I've been sober for 30 plus years, 94.
• 16:09
  SPEAKER_00: And I've never sponsored a female alcoholic.
• 16:13
  SPEAKER_00: So I don't have any perspective of the female behavior patterns of the alcoholic, but I have plenty of perspective of the male alcoholic, plenty.

  SPEAKER_00: And men have a challenging time with emotions, anyways.
• 16:28
  SPEAKER_00: One of my passions is to help men stop taking their rage out on the women around them.

  SPEAKER_00: It's a passion of mine.
• 16:38
  SPEAKER_00: Why?
• 16:39
  SPEAKER_00: Because it's a way we heal humanity.

  SPEAKER_00: If we can't help men feel the reason they are so rageful, humanity cannot heal.

  SPEAKER_00: If men keep taking their rage out on their female partners, humanity can't heal.

  SPEAKER_00: Well, my goal here at the Wii Podcast is to give a voice.

  SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, I never had a wife at the time.

  SPEAKER_00: My favorite girlfriend ever had.

  SPEAKER_00: We were such great friends because we smoked marijuana together.

  SPEAKER_00: And when I smoked marijuana, I wasn't rageful at anything.

  SPEAKER_00: But so it's one of my passions.

  SPEAKER_00: It is to help heal that whole concept.

  SPEAKER_00: Men taking their anger out on women.

  SPEAKER_00: It's a passion of mine.

  SPEAKER_00: Because it's one of the ways we heal humanity.

  SPEAKER_00: I drank and drugged every day until I was 31 years old.

  SPEAKER_00: 15 to 31, count the days.

  SPEAKER_00: I don't even know how many days there is in there.

  SPEAKER_00: And I say it like that because until February 13th, 1994, I never ever, not once did I ever think about the thought of not drinking and drugging?

  SPEAKER_00: It was never in my mind, ever.

  SPEAKER_00: So I'm hoping here on the We podcast, somebody's listening right now, and I ask you the question, I'm gonna ask you right now, every listener out there, when was the last time you went?

  SPEAKER_00: I have to drink.

  SPEAKER_00: No, you don't.

  SPEAKER_00: It's a chicken shit answer.

  SPEAKER_00: Joe, you don't get it.

  SPEAKER_00: Football with no beer, really, Joe?

  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, how about no football?

  SPEAKER_00: I've had it and they like watching TV.

  SPEAKER_00: They would come over to my house.

  SPEAKER_00: My house has kind of been the centerplace of my family here for the past decade or so.

  SPEAKER_00: They come over to my house and they unmercifully would make fun of my TV.

  SPEAKER_00: Now, my TV, I don't know how big it was, a 50-inch, 60-inch.

  SPEAKER_00: To me, it's freaking huge because I never turn it on.

  SPEAKER_00: They'd make fun of it.

  SPEAKER_00: I was like, you know what?

  SPEAKER_00: My son Ryan down in his apartment has a 75-inch on the wall.

  SPEAKER_00: Well, when they came over this time, they're like, Where's your TV?

  SPEAKER_00: I don't have a TV anymore.

  SPEAKER_00: So, if nothing else, I won't get ridiculed, made fun of jokingly.

  SPEAKER_00: It's very pleasant fun because I don't own a TV.

  SPEAKER_00: So, since I don't own a TV, I get to ask people when was the last time you went on a Saturday and didn't drink and watch the football game?

  SPEAKER_00: And if it's been since you were 16, it's time.

  SPEAKER_00: Because if you're constantly putting alcohol in your body, you're abandoning a part of yourself.

  SPEAKER_00: How do we heal if you're abandoning a part of yourself?

  SPEAKER_00: You cannot do it.

  SPEAKER_00: Well, in that particular episode, I needed to tell Zeus's story to put the context of how important Zeus was in my life.

  SPEAKER_00: I didn't get married until I was 40.

  SPEAKER_00: And it was my spiritual beliefs that really caused my marriage to go two separate directions.

  SPEAKER_00: All I wanted was my kids.

  SPEAKER_00: I put everything in the front seat of my car and I got a rental house.

  SPEAKER_00: Because I had no support.

  SPEAKER_00: I had nowhere to go, nowhere to turn to, nothing, no one to talk to, no support.

  SPEAKER_00: So why do I have a passion for this concept called divorce post?

  SPEAKER_00: Because that's what it does.

  SPEAKER_00: It supports people in that spot right after divorce.

  SPEAKER_00: And in my personal opinion, divorce, the ending of the most significant relationship in your life.

  SPEAKER_00: No, death of a pet, and then a death of a child, quite honestly.

  SPEAKER_00: Because a lot of us have elder parents that pass, right?

  SPEAKER_00: But you know, quite honestly, there's also a sense of relief.

  SPEAKER_00: So by the time he passed, of course you're sad, but it's not piercing.

  SPEAKER_00: My mother was piercing because I mean she was perfectly healthy.

  SPEAKER_00: And dreaming is a beautiful place to start because your imagination is the freest position that your humanity has capacity to be involved with.

  SPEAKER_00: And what you're going to find is that the more you dream, then eventually what happens, you're going to see yourself dream about all sorts of things and dream about all sorts of things.

  SPEAKER_00: It's the only human experience you have where limitlessness is the possibility in imagination.

  SPEAKER_00: And you just imagine and let yourself imagine.

  SPEAKER_00: And what you'll find is that the imagination and the dream, and then when you do it, there's going to be things that you find yourself and hear yourself and see yourself imagining over and over and over.

  SPEAKER_00: You'll kind of go from dream state where everything is airy, fairy, fluffy, fluffy, and fabulous down to eight or 10 or 20 or 30 different visions you see.

  SPEAKER_00: And eventually what happens is you'll see it, and that's where I suggest you start writing.

  SPEAKER_00: And I always remember, because I did this years ago, that's where I learned all of this.

  SPEAKER_00: And over time, though, what happens is as on a Tuesday, I was thinking about, yeah, man, I could hardly wait.

  SPEAKER_00: And then by a week or two later, I'm like, yeah, you know, I'm gonna kind of check that one up less.

  SPEAKER_00: And the idea of having 50 of them, and so as it was an imagination state, it was fabulous, but over time, it kind of fleeted away.

  SPEAKER_00: And what happens though, and how we get to passion and purpose, is we have to sift through going from dream state to imagination, from imagination to inspiration.

  SPEAKER_00: Inspiration is of your divinity, imagination is of your humanity.

  SPEAKER_00: My girlfriend at the time was from Connecticut, little tiny thing, and I'm a 220-pound white guy.

  SPEAKER_00: I said, created in God's image, he's black, she's little, I'm big, I'm white.

  SPEAKER_00: How could this God's image thing happen?

  SPEAKER_00: I said, Oh, it's not created in God's image from the physical, it's created in God's image from the spiritual, the spiritual essence of me and my friend and my girlfriend.

  SPEAKER_00: Physically, the humanness of us, the physicality of us is all unique.
