- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a d M podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No
- 0:07Speaker 2: Dribble Don't Tell Mom. Hello, and welcome to No Dribble,
- 0:23Speaker 2: the podcast where we talk about netball book. We talk
- 0:25Speaker 2: about so much more, and happily we'll be all talking
- 0:28Speaker 2: about it at equal volume this week. So, yes, there
- 0:30Speaker 2: was an issue with this's volume last week, Liz, How
- 0:32Speaker 2: did we fix it?
- 0:34Speaker 3: Apparently the inputs on my end were blah blah blah.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You needed blah blah blah blah, turn up a switch.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Something fairly simple, wasn't it.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but I will say that actually it was my
- 0:42Speaker 3: husband's favorite show because a good near me.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Oh well, I was about to say I secretly turned
- 0:46Speaker 4: it down as well, because it's not often.
- 0:50Speaker 5: Was quiet.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I was listening to it in the car because we
- 0:52Speaker 2: thought we might have a problem with the audio, and
- 0:54Speaker 2: I listened to it and so I had you up
- 0:56Speaker 2: at a comfortable volume, and then cath and I came
- 0:58Speaker 2: on and went shut up yet back from the microphone.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Anyway, Well, I think we're all good this weekend.
- 1:05Speaker 2: This week's all good. Well, we're good. There's a lot
- 1:08Speaker 2: of stuff that's not good this week. I'm Carolyn Swindell,
- 1:11Speaker 2: I'm caath.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Cox, I'm Zello's ad a good volume.
- 1:14Speaker 2: You welcome, welcome. There is a lot of netball to
- 1:18Speaker 2: talk about, and we've bravely left the house. We are
- 1:22Speaker 2: all we're wearing black, not because we're Silver fur and supporters,
- 1:25Speaker 2: but because we are in mourning. It has been a
- 1:28Speaker 2: tough week for Australian network, hasn't it?
- 1:31Speaker 4: And out of the blue to a degree, because how
- 1:35Speaker 4: do the World champs, who have not been rattled by
- 1:38Speaker 4: any team in the last three years or so suddenly
- 1:42Speaker 4: lose three zip but by double digit margins each game.
- 1:47Speaker 5: I know it's a concern.
- 1:50Speaker 4: The concern is there's one game to go, but hey,
- 1:52Speaker 4: it makes it interesting for international netball, doesn't it.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It really does.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Oh absolutely, And I think that we just need to
- 2:00Speaker 3: keep some perspective on this. Yes, it's a concern.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Oh no, I'd like to be historical, but you know.
- 2:06Speaker 3: We're two years out from the Calm Games, We're three
- 2:09Speaker 3: years out from the next World Cup.
- 2:11Speaker 6: When I think back to.
- 2:14Speaker 3: The last all the years that I was captain, the
- 2:16Speaker 3: year after the World Cup, we lost the World Cup
- 2:19Speaker 3: in two thousand and three, two thousand and four, two
- 2:21Speaker 3: thousand and five, we just.
- 2:23Speaker 6: Got pumped by the Kiwis and I.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Looked at the players on Saturday night and I thought,
- 2:28Speaker 3: oh my god, this is just like there's so much
- 2:31Speaker 3: shades of that period of time, Like you know, Kimmipoi
- 2:35Speaker 3: is like the New generations Temapara George, you know, Grace
- 2:38Speaker 3: Neweki is like the new generations are in fan Dyke.
- 2:41Speaker 3: And I was certain and actually I got a bit
- 2:43Speaker 3: of PTSD from those years that we were getting pumped.
- 2:45Speaker 5: And it's a good pointally.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a good point you make because it's not
- 2:50Speaker 4: it's probably not panic stations for the Australians when you
- 2:52Speaker 4: think about the workload they've had, the mental dramas that
- 2:56Speaker 4: they've had to go through and that energy that sort
- 2:58Speaker 4: of takes. But it's where's the one that's been from
- 3:00Speaker 4: New Zealand. It's probably more to the point, isn't it.
- 3:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I look with Grace Noweki. They didn't have her last year,
- 3:08Speaker 3: did they. Wasn't she injured last year?
- 3:10Speaker 4: She played half of the series and the two games
- 3:13Speaker 4: she played they won.
- 3:14Speaker 5: So yeah, she's a piece of the puzzle.
- 3:16Speaker 3: She's a huge piece of the pub, but she's not
- 3:18Speaker 3: the only piece, right that the mid court movement.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Is just spectacular defense.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, like amazing, right, and so like I think if
- 3:27Speaker 3: you're going to get what was there a wing defense?
- 3:31Speaker 5: She only got the MVP in the last game too.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Yeah, right, So but I actually think if you're going
- 3:38Speaker 3: to lose games, this is the time to do it.
- 3:42Speaker 6: I mean, not the time to do it.
- 3:43Speaker 3: This is the time to have anything exposed that you
- 3:44Speaker 3: need to go and work on, because there is time.
- 3:46Speaker 3: And you know, it's hard for the team, and it's awful.
- 3:49Speaker 3: And I just watched them. I was just watching their
- 3:51Speaker 3: faces in that last quarter, and I thought, the heart
- 3:53Speaker 3: of the try at the moment the worst they get
- 3:55Speaker 3: and sometimes happens when you're losing and you're trying so
- 3:58Speaker 3: hard and you just you know, And so I really
- 4:01Speaker 3: do feel for them, and losing is awful. I feel
- 4:03Speaker 3: for Stacey Marinkovic and Nick Richardson. Losing is awful. It's
- 4:06Speaker 3: horrible being questioned about why. But I feel like, you know,
- 4:10Speaker 3: it's not it's not the time to panic, it's time
- 4:12Speaker 3: to learn and go all right, this is not you know,
- 4:15Speaker 3: just because we're not performing better than New Zealand in
- 4:18Speaker 3: two twenty twenty four, that doesn't mean that that's exactly
- 4:21Speaker 3: what's going to happen for the next three years.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Fell credit to New Zealand though, because they have come
- 4:26Speaker 4: from literally nowhere and.
- 4:29Speaker 2: In the world is not nowhere, but yeah, I know.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Considering where they consistently are, it's nowhere, like, isn't it.
- 4:36Speaker 4: It's really is the out of the sticks that they've
- 4:39Speaker 4: managed to emerge from. But Ekanazio's comments have been really
- 4:43Speaker 4: interesting throughout this series because she said off the back
- 4:46Speaker 4: of losing to England and then off the back of
- 4:49Speaker 4: slipping in world rankings, they had these really deep, vulnerable,
- 4:54Speaker 4: confronting conversations with each other, which we talked about after
- 4:57Speaker 4: the AFL Grand Final, the Swan's having to do that,
- 5:00Speaker 4: and that they really laid all their cards on the
- 5:02Speaker 4: table and they had to be better and they had
- 5:04Speaker 4: to find ways to be better, and they did that.
- 5:06Speaker 4: So that first win she was really emotional because they
- 5:09Speaker 4: desperately had to pull something out of the bag otherwise
- 5:12Speaker 4: it was going to be dire straits in New Zealand
- 5:14Speaker 4: netball and they've done that. So I think they've now
- 5:16Speaker 4: inspired again the next generation, which is great to see too,
- 5:22Speaker 4: because you don't want to see a powerhouse of the
- 5:24Speaker 4: sports suddenly flying out the back door.
- 5:27Speaker 6: No, and it was so I wouldn't mind.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Correct.
- 5:31Speaker 2: After the game, I watched the Kangaroos beat the New
- 5:33Speaker 2: Zealand rugby league team. That felt a little bit better.
- 5:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:37Speaker 3: I got home last night and my son was like,
- 5:39Speaker 3: but mum, we won the rugby league. I'm like rugby league,
- 5:41Speaker 3: shmrugby league.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I know, but you know. Take But we will talk
- 5:46Speaker 2: about that. But there's been other disappointments this week. I'd
- 5:48Speaker 2: like to talk about one of mine.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Please.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I've had a very had a hard day yesterday, very
- 5:51Speaker 2: difficult for me, Darling.
- 5:53Speaker 6: Are you okay? Well?
- 5:54Speaker 2: Yeah? Before I get to that though, did you get
- 5:56Speaker 2: a good parking space this morning?
- 5:57Speaker 5: I did?
- 5:58Speaker 2: Did you do a U turned across double y line?
- 6:01Speaker 2: He's someone who was doing a legal turn to get
- 6:04Speaker 2: that was it? And I walked past and saw you
- 6:10Speaker 2: sitting in the car.
- 6:13Speaker 5: You can't get parks around here?
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:17Speaker 5: For you?
- 6:18Speaker 6: The thing is too though.
- 6:19Speaker 4: What's the rule about because I'm not fully in the
- 6:22Speaker 4: that's illegal? No, aren't you allowed to be three quarters.
- 6:24Speaker 2: In in terms of how much of your car is
- 6:27Speaker 2: in the parking space, I can't give you an accurate answer.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And that in terms of doing a U turn across
- 6:31Speaker 2: a double why completely illegal, hundred percent certain you broke.
- 6:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I had a look. There was no police around.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Yeah I was there.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I'm a place you are to citizens care.
- 6:41Speaker 6: But there was sergeant Swindle.
- 6:43Speaker 4: So you know, and she does have handcuffs in a bag.
- 6:48Speaker 5: As it turns out.
- 6:49Speaker 2: That was not my disappointment that yesterday. So there's only
- 6:53Speaker 2: a couple of times in your life, right that you
- 6:55Speaker 2: get to do this particular thing. Go and buy a
- 6:58Speaker 2: new water and can, right, So my mine fell apart,
- 7:01Speaker 2: it's rusted through. So I went to buy a new
- 7:05Speaker 2: water and can. I knew I wanted nine liters, and
- 7:07Speaker 2: I thought, I'm going to buy the water in can
- 7:09Speaker 2: of my dreams. I'm going to invest I'm going a
- 7:11Speaker 2: really good one, because you know how many more of
- 7:13Speaker 2: these will I buy in my life? So I went
- 7:15Speaker 2: to somewhere that alleges that lower prices are just the beginning,
- 7:19Speaker 2: but thinking thinking that they would have a huge range
- 7:24Speaker 2: of beautiful water in cans. You can buy a teeny
- 7:27Speaker 2: tiny pretty watering can or you can buy an ugly
- 7:31Speaker 2: large nine liter water in can. So it was either
- 7:33Speaker 2: plastic or just galvanized steel. And I had to go
- 7:36Speaker 2: with the ladder. And I just don't look at me
- 7:38Speaker 2: like that. You don't judge me.
- 7:40Speaker 4: I would like to get in my head my understand
- 7:42Speaker 4: what is your understanding of what it was going to
- 7:44Speaker 4: look like.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I thought there might be one that would be like red,
- 7:47Speaker 2: maybe with some flowers on it or something like. The
- 7:49Speaker 2: little ones were pretty. They were a little pretty ones and.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Not prepared to do trips back and forth with the LT.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Well, I think therefore, you know that's like the Gilmore
- 7:57Speaker 2: girls watering herbs on the kitchen window sill, like I'm
- 8:01Speaker 2: out like a big tree. Well, no, this is, but
- 8:05Speaker 2: it's my vegetables that I move around in the gross
- 8:07Speaker 2: sacks around the yard so I could get the hose out.
- 8:10Speaker 2: But just you know, it's the watering can. They're tiny
- 8:12Speaker 2: little seedlings at the moment.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Do you think do you think it's sexist? Right?
- 8:15Speaker 3: Do you think like the pretty water in cans are
- 8:17Speaker 3: little because the ladies can only carry a little.
- 8:20Speaker 6: Water in can?
- 8:20Speaker 2: Now? I do damn right?
- 8:22Speaker 6: Yes?
- 8:22Speaker 3: Is there a bit of that in that and then
- 8:24Speaker 3: the big water in cans. Well that's for the blokes.
- 8:26Speaker 2: That's that and they don't want it to so and
- 8:29Speaker 2: my daughter on the way home, when I was expressing
- 8:31Speaker 2: how upset I was, said well, you could paint it,
- 8:33Speaker 2: so you go to your room, like come on, or you.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Could use a hose, as Catherine just said, like let's let's.
- 8:39Speaker 6: Get to the name.
- 8:40Speaker 5: She's looking at you similarly to feel supported.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Do I feel like this is a safe space to
- 8:46Speaker 2: talk about my personal trauma? No, not anymore, umpire, I'm
- 8:50Speaker 2: not feeling safe.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Look, I get it, I get it, just not with
- 8:53Speaker 4: a watering can. Yeah, and what the goldilocks of watering can?
- 8:56Speaker 2: This is the thing. It's like, you don't buy these
- 8:58Speaker 2: things very often in your life. So now what will
- 9:00Speaker 2: happen is I'll walk past some market and I'll see
- 9:03Speaker 2: something perfect next week. Yes, I can't buy it.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Now.
- 9:08Speaker 2: You got the gloves I do?
- 9:10Speaker 5: Are they pretty gloves? Are they manly?
- 9:11Speaker 2: No, they're just they're just gloves. They're not manly, they're
- 9:14Speaker 2: just gloves.
- 9:15Speaker 3: They're just I think you're going to either have to
- 9:18Speaker 3: go to a market or to a fancy, shmancy nursery.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Like I think if you want something specific, you got
- 9:23Speaker 3: to go to a specific space. But I am interested
- 9:26Speaker 3: in the fact that you don't have a line item
- 9:28Speaker 3: in your family budget that allows you just buy one
- 9:31Speaker 3: more water and can.
- 9:31Speaker 6: Oh.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I could, but I don't want to have stuff Like
- 9:34Speaker 2: I don't know about you, but my house is overrunning
- 9:36Speaker 2: with stuff. We have so much stuff. I just want
- 9:39Speaker 2: to buy less and use less and have less stuff.
- 9:44Speaker 3: But is Lewis like you know how I was Lewis sixteenth, So.
- 9:48Speaker 2: He doesn't have his own water and can yet he'll
- 9:50Speaker 2: need to No, I say.
- 9:51Speaker 6: Well, he's got to earn. Say he's got to earn
- 9:53Speaker 6: that that's a privilege. Is not right? I do?
- 9:57Speaker 3: Like do I go through about this every year? My
- 10:01Speaker 3: kids wardrobes and all the stuff in our place.
- 10:04Speaker 6: I just throw bucket loads.
- 10:06Speaker 5: All question are they when you do it?
- 10:09Speaker 3: No?
- 10:09Speaker 6: Of course, not right.
- 10:10Speaker 3: But I'm just wondering, at what point do your kids
- 10:12Speaker 3: know that you're doing that to them? Like everyone's going
- 10:14Speaker 3: to start to twig pretty soon. But she's got so
- 10:17Speaker 3: much stuff that when I clear out stuff, she has
- 10:19Speaker 3: no idea that stuff's gone.
- 10:20Speaker 2: So I'm at the stage now where I need to
- 10:23Speaker 2: completely respect my son's privacy or be prepared to be shocked.
- 10:27Speaker 2: So he's sixteen, that's your.
- 10:29Speaker 5: ROOMMATEE go to the privacy. Yes, that's what I.
- 10:38Speaker 2: How was your weekend you two were in wa.
- 10:40Speaker 5: I went over early.
- 10:41Speaker 4: I was there on Thursday and just ate and drank
- 10:45Speaker 4: and went to the beaches and did great walks and
- 10:48Speaker 4: caught up with Sue Gordian and.
- 10:50Speaker 2: It was good fun, fantastic.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 4: And then I got to the hotel before the game
- 10:54Speaker 4: Eve and I had room servers at five and went
- 10:57Speaker 4: to bed at seven.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Oh.
- 11:00Speaker 4: I was ready to rock the next day. Australia went
- 11:03Speaker 4: sadly but anyway.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Well, but that you going to had room set us
- 11:06Speaker 2: at five? That was like eight o'clock by your body clock,
- 11:09Speaker 2: wasn't it.
- 11:09Speaker 6: Well.
- 11:09Speaker 4: I had been there for a couple of days, so yeah,
- 11:11Speaker 4: you probably can't do that any longer.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Anyway, No, I was just tired. I did a good
- 11:15Speaker 5: couple of.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Days prior, so it was good fun and Elizabeth was
- 11:18Speaker 4: working though, weren't you.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Well, I was a bit But I also took Matthew
- 11:21Speaker 3: over with me because he has been a single father
- 11:23Speaker 3: with two children for most of this year. And his
- 11:27Speaker 3: best friend lives in West Australia. He is married to
- 11:30Speaker 3: one of my friends who I met at the AIS.
- 11:33Speaker 3: So she's a netballer and does a heap of coaching
- 11:36Speaker 3: and stuff down south. And so yeah, I took Matthew
- 11:39Speaker 3: over and we just had a nice weekend and did
- 11:41Speaker 3: a bit of what you did, Catherine, just not with you,
- 11:43Speaker 3: so eating, drinking, going to the beach, having.
- 11:46Speaker 6: A nice time.
- 11:47Speaker 3: And then I did have lots of meetings, but you
- 11:49Speaker 3: know that's part and pastor of the job.
- 11:51Speaker 4: And you had a great great seats too. I noticed
- 11:54Speaker 4: I got a little tap on the shoulder from your
- 11:56Speaker 4: husband as he strolled past me and sat in his
- 11:59Speaker 4: fancy little box. My friends, whoever, however, I got tickets for,
- 12:03Speaker 4: were in actually the last row in the nosebleed section.
- 12:05Speaker 5: So clearly your con.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Stadium, though, isn't it like there's a bad seat there.
- 12:12Speaker 5: I was going to But I'm.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Really glad I didn't actually come to me.
- 12:17Speaker 3: But it's a great I was going to do that too, but.
- 12:19Speaker 6: No, it is a great stadium.
- 12:22Speaker 3: It's I reckon, it's one of the best netball stadiums
- 12:25Speaker 3: in the country. Just it's it's not just the size
- 12:28Speaker 3: and number of people.
- 12:29Speaker 6: You can have in there.
- 12:30Speaker 3: It's like the gradient of the stands because you do
- 12:34Speaker 3: feel like the crowd is right on.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Top of you.
- 12:36Speaker 3: And every game that I've been in in there is
- 12:39Speaker 3: just is just fantastic.
- 12:41Speaker 5: And how's the new big jumbo tron thing in the middle.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Did you see that?
- 12:44Speaker 6: Oh it's awesome.
- 12:45Speaker 5: Yeah, it's double sided.
- 12:47Speaker 2: May imagine that they didn't have that. They had at
- 12:49Speaker 2: the Fever Giants game I went to is an inflatable
- 12:52Speaker 2: pig flying round, which is fantastic because they've got the Fever.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I've got a pork sponsor, so they have a flying
- 12:59Speaker 2: pig and it's like, well, I'm just going to look
- 13:01Speaker 2: at that. I'm going to pay a ten to a
- 13:03Speaker 2: flying pick.
- 13:03Speaker 3: I sat there, Yeah, I sat there on Sunday. I thought,
- 13:06Speaker 3: what's missing?
- 13:06Speaker 6: Here? A fly.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Nineteen goals, that's what's missing or.
- 13:13Speaker 6: A flying pick?
- 13:14Speaker 3: You can have one or the other.
- 13:15Speaker 6: What do you want?
- 13:16Speaker 5: Do you know?
- 13:16Speaker 4: What was great though, is Sue Gordion was dropping me
- 13:19Speaker 4: at my hotel after I'd finished hanging out with her,
- 13:22Speaker 4: and we went past the new Netball Center, which I
- 13:24Speaker 4: haven't seen in Wa yet because I haven't been there
- 13:27Speaker 4: for a year and a half and just you know,
- 13:28Speaker 4: try to avoid netball courts when I can. Anyway, we
- 13:31Speaker 4: drove past it. She goes, you want to quickly pop
- 13:32Speaker 4: in and I'll show you around the new facilities. I
- 13:34Speaker 4: was like, amazing.
- 13:35Speaker 5: We walk in there.
- 13:36Speaker 4: She had completely forgotten and I was obviously unaware that
- 13:39Speaker 4: the Diamonds had an open training session and that was
- 13:42Speaker 4: odd at the time. So there was three hundred people
- 13:45Speaker 4: in there watching this session. The Diamonds training, but also
- 13:48Speaker 4: the nineteen seventy one World Cup team had all got
- 13:53Speaker 4: together and so they they are amazing and they always
- 13:56Speaker 4: make an effort to get together and catch up. All
- 13:58Speaker 4: the time they were all sitting down on the baseline
- 14:01Speaker 4: watching the training. Then they had a function that night.
- 14:03Speaker 4: They all went to the game the next day and
- 14:05Speaker 4: caught up, and so I went over to have a
- 14:07Speaker 4: chat with them. Gay Teed she was at the institute
- 14:10Speaker 4: when you were their list was she she was my coach?
- 14:13Speaker 3: Yeah, So I saw gay before the game on Sunday,
- 14:15Speaker 3: So it was interesting. It was amazing you going off
- 14:17Speaker 3: to tell your mind, it was so nice.
- 14:18Speaker 5: To see them. Gay Teed has not changed at all.
- 14:21Speaker 6: She is amazing.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Right. So gay Tea was the captain of that nineteen
- 14:25Speaker 3: seventy one team and when I got to the AIS,
- 14:29Speaker 3: she was the head coach. One of the first things like,
- 14:31Speaker 3: she caught us him for a team meeting and we
- 14:33Speaker 3: were all, oh my god, gay Teed's a legend. You know,
- 14:35Speaker 3: she captain Australia, she coached Australia. She was this unbelievable
- 14:39Speaker 3: legend of the game. And she caught us him for
- 14:41Speaker 3: a meeting and we were like, what's she going to
- 14:43Speaker 3: tell us? Like, is she going to tell us the
- 14:45Speaker 3: meaning of life according to netball or this is a
- 14:47Speaker 3: secret to playing for the Australian netball team. We walked
- 14:50Speaker 3: in and it was our first day at the AIS,
- 14:52Speaker 3: and she goes, Ladies, before I talked to you about
- 14:54Speaker 3: anything about netball, I'm going to say, welcome to the AIS.
- 14:57Speaker 3: It's the smallgas board of men down here, so't make
- 14:59Speaker 3: me easy.
- 15:03Speaker 5: And did you listen to that advice?
- 15:05Speaker 3: No, of course I did not dine dull a cart
- 15:07Speaker 3: the whole time.
- 15:10Speaker 5: And I had the whole cheese cut.
- 15:13Speaker 6: Yes, Oh god. There's so many stories.
- 15:15Speaker 3: But so they are at the function, the pre match
- 15:17Speaker 3: function on Sunday night, and Day had her blazer on
- 15:21Speaker 3: from nineteen seventy one.
- 15:22Speaker 6: So not only has she not changed like.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Her face physically, she still looks like she could run
- 15:28Speaker 3: out and play, so she had her blazer on.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I would n't up take that blazer off.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Ever.
- 15:33Speaker 2: If I was her felt still feting into something that
- 15:35Speaker 2: I was given fifty years ago when I was a
- 15:37Speaker 2: professional athlete, I would be showing off so much that.
- 15:41Speaker 4: The face that you played for Australia, Oh whatever.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Yeah, And she looked well, she looks like she could
- 15:50Speaker 3: still play right. And when she was at the Institute
- 15:53Speaker 3: of Sport, when she was coaching us, she's to get
- 15:54Speaker 3: into our gym sessions with us.
- 15:56Speaker 6: She was amazing.
- 15:57Speaker 3: So she spoke and you know, it was so lovely
- 16:00Speaker 3: to see them all and I thought, gosh, that's what
- 16:02Speaker 3: Netbun gives you, right, these great group of friends. Whether
- 16:05Speaker 3: it's mum's team that you play with, or mates that
- 16:07Speaker 3: you've played with from school or the Diamonds, it's still
- 16:09Speaker 3: the same thing, right, It's that fond of friendship.
- 16:11Speaker 2: And see, I told you it's the same as playing
- 16:12Speaker 2: for the Diamonds.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Totally is.
- 16:14Speaker 4: But the best thing about Gay is I remember she
- 16:16Speaker 4: was my coach at the AIS, but also in Perth.
- 16:21Speaker 4: She loves swimming, she loves the suns. Anytime we tour
- 16:24Speaker 4: it would be to the Caribbean, to Glasgow.
- 16:29Speaker 5: No way, let's go to Jamaica, all right, Oh.
- 16:33Speaker 3: That's so funny as opposed to Yeah. But and it
- 16:36Speaker 3: was just like it was just so much. It was
- 16:39Speaker 3: so lovely to see them and they're all still so
- 16:41Speaker 3: passionate about the game, and you know, they were talking
- 16:44Speaker 3: and one of them said, so Gordon interviewed them all
- 16:46Speaker 3: and it was so lovely to stand there and listen.
- 16:48Speaker 3: And one of them said that she gets so nervous
- 16:50Speaker 3: watching the Diamonds games. And I thought, is that amazing?
- 16:52Speaker 3: Love We're all the same. You'll get the sideline you're nervous.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Like I felt sick at halftime on Saturday night when
- 16:58Speaker 3: it was really closer than as the game blew out.
- 17:00Speaker 6: I just felt so sorry for the team. But it
- 17:03Speaker 6: was lovely.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Stella Northy so Stella and marg Molina. So mag Molina
- 17:08Speaker 3: is now on the Netbor Victoria board and she was
- 17:11Speaker 3: our team manager for a long time, yes Simon's and
- 17:14Speaker 3: we had so much fun with that. Stella and Marg
- 17:17Speaker 3: were the first sisters to ever play for Australia. So
- 17:21Speaker 3: what like a massive thing for them. But even better
- 17:24Speaker 3: than Gay turning up in her blaze up Stella Northy
- 17:28Speaker 3: turned up fifty three years later after she first wore
- 17:31Speaker 3: it in her walkout uniform at the back in the day,
- 17:35Speaker 3: your walkout uniform was your former uniform, right, so when
- 17:38Speaker 3: you go to events, and they used to have to
- 17:40Speaker 3: wear it, like, you know, you gotta wear it for
- 17:42Speaker 3: the opening ceremony. And so she had traveling she had this.
- 17:46Speaker 3: It was a yellow or gold jacket, buttoned down jacket,
- 17:50Speaker 3: long sleeve, long gold skirt to just pass the knees, stockings, shoes,
- 17:55Speaker 3: a little.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Handbag, white gloves, yellow hat.
- 18:01Speaker 3: It was so amazing the fact that a she still
- 18:03Speaker 3: has it and b she still fits into it.
- 18:06Speaker 6: It was phenomenal. And so she was wondering.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Around this function and Gay had a blazer on and
- 18:11Speaker 3: it was just the best thing. You know, Marg was there,
- 18:13Speaker 3: and Marg's just got story after story after story. But
- 18:16Speaker 3: I've had to tell her to stop telling stories about
- 18:18Speaker 3: us on tour COTSI thank you responsible jobs. But yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 3: so it was so good to see them and they're
- 18:24Speaker 3: all still contributing to the sport.
- 18:26Speaker 5: You know, E was.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Marillo is on the Netball Austray History and Traditions Committee.
- 18:30Speaker 3: You know Marg's involved at Netball Vick. They're all contributing
- 18:33Speaker 3: to the sport and they're all just such amazing leaders
- 18:37Speaker 3: within the sport.
- 18:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:38Speaker 4: When I was chatting with them at the venue, they
- 18:40Speaker 4: were saying that they were going to wear their uniforms
- 18:42Speaker 4: to the function, and I said, I'll only be impressed
- 18:44Speaker 4: if one of you rocks up and you've got your
- 18:46Speaker 4: playing uniform on. But they had to give them back
- 18:50Speaker 4: so that none of them have a playing uniform. They
- 18:52Speaker 4: all had to give their tunics back for the next
- 18:55Speaker 4: team to wear the next year.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Which is real women's sports.
- 18:59Speaker 4: I know, but it Isn't that really sad because I've
- 19:02Speaker 4: got a storage in it, specifically for all my Aussie
- 19:04Speaker 4: crap that I just can't bring myself to throw out.
- 19:07Speaker 5: I reckon, I've got forty five uniforms in one bag.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Yeah that's not I've got a spare room for that.
- 19:13Speaker 3: When we built the house, I was like, I need
- 19:15Speaker 3: a room put all my netball stuff in, and I
- 19:16Speaker 3: don't know what I'm.
- 19:17Speaker 6: Going to do with it.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Occasionally the kids get it out and they want to
- 19:20Speaker 3: wear it like a shirt or something to school. But
- 19:23Speaker 3: I kind of bring myself. Actually I had to bring
- 19:25Speaker 3: myself to throw out. I went through and throw out
- 19:27Speaker 3: all of my tracksuit bottoms because I thought, that's got
- 19:30Speaker 3: three hundred pair of bottled green tracksuit bottoms and I
- 19:32Speaker 3: don't have any insignia on them, and you know there's
- 19:35Speaker 3: someone who could be wearing them instead. But I've kept
- 19:38Speaker 3: all my jackets and some playing uniforms and that sort
- 19:40Speaker 3: of thing.
- 19:40Speaker 6: But yeah, that is a tragedy. Actually it is really.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Back then, they used to wear like a white shirt
- 19:46Speaker 3: and a gold chinnit with a belt. Yes and yes,
- 19:49Speaker 3: and here's how old I am. That's what I wore
- 19:51Speaker 3: when I started playing Network.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Oh yes, I don't believe I need a photo of that,
- 19:55Speaker 4: like a fato of that too.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Have you got a permera?
- 19:58Speaker 6: This is well before the per Mira. I didn't get
- 20:00Speaker 6: permsed until I was six old.
- 20:03Speaker 5: You did, did you really?
- 20:05Speaker 3: I did?
- 20:05Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 20:06Speaker 3: I played for I played your gobby smacked. I played
- 20:10Speaker 3: for quite any result.
- 20:12Speaker 2: It's a real backhanded You're not that old. It's like, well,
- 20:15Speaker 2: clearly I am and Wow, Yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 6: No, I had wore a Green Hills Network club.
- 20:20Speaker 3: It was a green shirt and a white beige tunic
- 20:23Speaker 3: with a little belt. And then all I was all,
- 20:26Speaker 3: I just couldn't wait to be twelve when I got
- 20:29Speaker 3: to wear the plated skirt, the zip skirt.
- 20:32Speaker 5: It's so good and you knew your time for a
- 20:34Speaker 5: new one. And you could barely get the velcrow done.
- 20:37Speaker 4: You funny because I did a bit clean out of
- 20:41Speaker 4: my uniforms as well, and kept the important bits, like
- 20:44Speaker 4: the bits that have the crest on them and stuff
- 20:46Speaker 4: like that. But I had thrown a stack out. And
- 20:48Speaker 4: I remember Jan troy our Swift's managering me one day
- 20:51Speaker 4: and Catherine, are you trying to sell your stuff on whatever?
- 20:55Speaker 2: It was only.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Trying to sell myself on it on only events. No,
- 21:02Speaker 4: it was on eBay. She said, are you trying to
- 21:04Speaker 4: sell your tracksuits on EVA? And I'm like, God, no,
- 21:06Speaker 4: not at all. But so what had happened is I
- 21:08Speaker 4: had given them some binnies. Someone had gone in there
- 21:11Speaker 4: and got them and then trying to flog them off
- 21:13Speaker 4: and make a bit of extra cash on eBay.
- 21:15Speaker 5: That's fantastic, it's smart. I think they probably got a
- 21:18Speaker 5: couple of bucks for it.
- 21:22Speaker 2: So that's netball. Then I want to talk about netball now,
- 21:27Speaker 2: so I want to talk about some stuff that's been
- 21:28Speaker 2: going on in the chat. So this is the beauty
- 21:30Speaker 2: of not going to the game, is that I sit
- 21:31Speaker 2: there on Facebook all night with the dribblers, which is great.
- 21:33Speaker 2: And I will say netbull chat, there are nepple chats
- 21:36Speaker 2: and then there are netball chats, and we have a
- 21:39Speaker 2: nice positive space where people are disagreeing with one another respectfully.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Not everyone's agreed. Not even everyone's agreeing with me, which
- 21:46Speaker 2: I find startling. But anyway, but some of the other
- 21:50Speaker 2: netball chats, it has been viled. They've had to shut
- 21:54Speaker 2: stuff down. It's been extremely rude about the umpires, and
- 21:58Speaker 2: I think we should have a conversation about the umpiring
- 22:00Speaker 2: of that game the other night. But you know, it's
- 22:03Speaker 2: actually just been vile and it hasn't reflected particularly well
- 22:07Speaker 2: on us as Australian netball fans.
- 22:08Speaker 5: I would have to say.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I'm having said that, though I will say that it's
- 22:13Speaker 3: not just netball fans.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Of course, not of course not, but.
- 22:15Speaker 6: I think it's more of a social media thing.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Yeah it is, but I'm very happy to say that
- 22:20Speaker 2: the notable Facebook page remains a place for civilized discussion
- 22:26Speaker 2: and disagreements. One thing I have noticed, though, is a
- 22:28Speaker 2: lot of people want to make selections based on the
- 22:31Speaker 2: sun Corps super Netple team that they happen to support.
- 22:33Speaker 5: It's there.
- 22:34Speaker 2: We are very tribal. Yes, fortunately Stacey Marinkovic doesn't seem
- 22:38Speaker 2: to happen. Whatever are you the ben so I'm going
- 22:41Speaker 2: to pick you?
- 22:42Speaker 4: Well, you did have the majority of the Vixens on
- 22:44Speaker 4: it one time and that didn't work. So is that
- 22:47Speaker 4: what the Vixen's fans were calling for?
- 22:48Speaker 2: Some Vixen's fans prefer the Vixen's players. Thunderbirds plans prefer
- 22:52Speaker 2: the Thunderbirds players. But you must have been pleased.
- 22:55Speaker 5: Oh my god.
- 22:57Speaker 4: I actually got a little normal, let's not say, choked up,
- 23:01Speaker 4: but I wanted it to be a special moment. It's like,
- 23:03Speaker 4: everyone just be quiet. Let Georgie how just.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Come on and just have a good game.
- 23:09Speaker 4: And she got up and there's a photo Hannah Hollis,
- 23:13Speaker 4: our host, talk of me with a piece of paper
- 23:15Speaker 4: on the head.
- 23:16Speaker 5: Like, oh my god, oh my.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Because Georgie is coming on. Just like the stress of
- 23:20Speaker 4: it because I felt like a mum. It's a big moment.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Imagine when Harper goes to a formal it's going to
- 23:25Speaker 2: be a crisis, but it will be is the paper
- 23:27Speaker 2: over the head, like the people who think that alfa
- 23:30Speaker 2: oyl hat will protect them from five gene.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Now it's just like, oh my god, it's happening and
- 23:35Speaker 4: I just must have been holding it. I don't even know,
- 23:37Speaker 4: but how awesome to see her finally take to the court.
- 23:42Speaker 4: And tough situation to have to do it in. But
- 23:45Speaker 4: I guess the good thing is that's one tick Diamond's
- 23:48Speaker 4: number one ninety three has made an appearance, and I
- 23:51Speaker 4: reckon there'll be a fair big cleaning of the benches
- 23:53Speaker 4: in Test four.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Oh I think so, so.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Potentially there's another one coming up.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Anyway, I saw her after the game and of course
- 23:58Speaker 4: BE lined over to a little happy snap with her
- 24:01Speaker 4: and her dad sent me a beautiful message, just you know,
- 24:04Speaker 4: thanking for support.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Orge Yeah, Porge, Yeah, Rob Hi Rob. He's a big fan.
- 24:10Speaker 2: But I thought although it was a really difficult circumstance
- 24:13Speaker 2: for her to come on to, I thought she did
- 24:15Speaker 2: really well and it was great to see because the
- 24:17Speaker 2: ferns obviously haven't had as much time to work out
- 24:20Speaker 2: how she plays, so she was able to really create
- 24:22Speaker 2: some space in that mid court for a few minutes.
- 24:25Speaker 2: And then I think they worked it out. But I
- 24:26Speaker 2: thought she took her opportunity and did well with it,
- 24:29Speaker 2: and I was very happy for her.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Sometimes you see players come on in that moment and
- 24:34Speaker 3: the moment overwhelms them and they go into their shell
- 24:36Speaker 3: a bit. And whereas you could see her just for
- 24:40Speaker 3: all the pressure that you felt, Catherine, she clearly just
- 24:43Speaker 3: was enjoying the moment. Yeah, So she didn't feel that pressure, right,
- 24:46Speaker 3: She just was like, he's a kid who's right in
- 24:48Speaker 3: the moment, who just had a big smile on her face,
- 24:51Speaker 3: and you know she's coming in a really tough circumstance,
- 24:54Speaker 3: but she didn't seem to come in with, oh my god,
- 24:56Speaker 3: the weight of this game is on my shoulders. So
- 24:59Speaker 3: it was really Yeah, it was super exciting. I was
- 25:01Speaker 3: watching right behind you and I saw Cat TULVARDI pick
- 25:03Speaker 3: up your wrists.
- 25:06Speaker 2: But what you would have heard in commentary is is
- 25:08Speaker 2: that Kat claimed she's actually the head of the Georgie
- 25:11Speaker 2: Horges fan club, and it's like, oh, these girls could
- 25:14Speaker 2: have a SmackDown, do.
- 25:15Speaker 5: You know what?
- 25:15Speaker 4: I was about to go the SmackDown, but I thought no,
- 25:18Speaker 4: let's not overshadow Georgie.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I think, where.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Did you get that filter from? Can I buy one?
- 25:29Speaker 5: But it was really cute.
- 25:30Speaker 4: We had Georgie Horges in the press conference after the
- 25:32Speaker 4: game and you know, asked her about the moment and
- 25:35Speaker 4: she said, it's one of those things that I've been
- 25:37Speaker 4: dreaming of since i was a little girl, which I
- 25:40Speaker 4: think just goes to show how young she is, right
- 25:42Speaker 4: because back when we played, we didn't really have netball
- 25:46Speaker 4: on the pedestal, that wasn't on the television. It's not
- 25:49Speaker 4: something you aspired to from when you were a young kid.
- 25:52Speaker 4: But clearly she's been able to do that and always
- 25:55Speaker 4: looked up to the Aussie girls and playing at that level.
- 25:58Speaker 5: So that was really cute, so.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Cute, amazing. A lot of questions about where the umpires
- 26:06Speaker 2: should come from. Now, obviously in all international sports you
- 26:09Speaker 2: have umpires that come from countries where the teams are
- 26:12Speaker 2: not playing, which seems like a reasonable premise to me.
- 26:16Speaker 3: It's reasonable except for and I'm not going to bag
- 26:20Speaker 3: the two the three umpires have had this series.
- 26:23Speaker 6: You know, Gary Burgess has been around for a long time.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Constellation came, I reckon, He even umpied me how it is?
- 26:33Speaker 2: When were you wearing the yellow tunic over the white shirt.
- 26:35Speaker 3: No, no, he's not that old, younger than me, but
- 26:39Speaker 3: so and these are these are experienced umpires, right, But
- 26:42Speaker 3: there is a difference in speed between when you get
- 26:46Speaker 3: up to this international level that potentially takes a little
- 26:49Speaker 3: while to get used to. So you know, these umpires,
- 26:52Speaker 3: I don't think for a second that you can blame
- 26:56Speaker 3: the umpires at all for the loss.
- 26:58Speaker 6: Right, If you lose, you've lost. And you know, I
- 27:00Speaker 6: used to when I was playing. I used to hate
- 27:02Speaker 6: as much as I didn't.
- 27:03Speaker 3: I used to chafe against the umpires please when they
- 27:05Speaker 3: pulled me up for stuff that I clearly didn't do.
- 27:07Speaker 6: I used to chafe against.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Blaming the umpires, right, because the moment you blame the umpires,
- 27:11Speaker 3: you actually take you actually give up control.
- 27:13Speaker 6: Of the results.
- 27:14Speaker 3: So if you say it's all the umpires five, right,
- 27:16Speaker 3: then you're saying I actually can't control this result. You
- 27:19Speaker 3: planted the umpires, and I think they were certainly fair
- 27:22Speaker 3: across the board, like there was consistency. Whether you agree
- 27:25Speaker 3: with the particular call, it was consistent across the board.
- 27:30Speaker 3: And you know Australia are always going to give away
- 27:32Speaker 3: more penalties simply because we play a very different style
- 27:34Speaker 3: of defensive game. Right, if you're off the body, you're
- 27:37Speaker 3: probably not going to give away a penalty. So that's
- 27:39Speaker 3: I think from a technical point of view, they did
- 27:42Speaker 3: their job. I do think that if so, going back
- 27:45Speaker 3: to blaming the umpires, I used to hate it because
- 27:48Speaker 3: it meant that you were just saying I'm not going
- 27:50Speaker 3: to get any better. And I have no doubt that
- 27:53Speaker 3: the Australians aren't blaming the umpires.
- 27:56Speaker 2: No, there's not many diamonds in the dribble chat room
- 27:59Speaker 2: this week.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I actually don't know about it. Let's send them
- 28:02Speaker 5: a friendly remander.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Yeah that's true.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Right, So I can guarantee you that Sacey, Marinkovich and
- 28:07Speaker 3: Hurtan will be looking at everything they can do within
- 28:10Speaker 3: their control to make the outcome different on Wednesday night.
- 28:14Speaker 3: I think that though it does raise this really interesting
- 28:17Speaker 3: question about about neutrality. And you know, early on in
- 28:22Speaker 3: my test career when we played New Zealand, we would
- 28:25Speaker 3: have one Australian umpire and one New Zealand umpire would
- 28:28Speaker 3: be one from Excited. And then there was a controversy
- 28:31Speaker 3: after the ninety five World Cup or something like that,
- 28:34Speaker 3: and it went to it's an international rule now that
- 28:36Speaker 3: it has to be neutral umpires. So that means when
- 28:39Speaker 3: New Zealand play anyone else but Australia, they tend to
- 28:42Speaker 3: get in Australian umpires. When we play anyone else but
- 28:45Speaker 3: New Zealand, we're getting New Zealand umpires. And then when
- 28:48Speaker 3: Australia and New Zealand player, you have umpires from England
- 28:51Speaker 3: or South Africa and or there were some Caribbean umpires
- 28:55Speaker 3: there for a little while, and so you do get
- 28:58Speaker 3: umpires who you haven't seen before and who you don't
- 29:00Speaker 3: really know about, and we haven't seen before, right, and
- 29:03Speaker 3: so you had a different style of umpiring.
- 29:05Speaker 6: That's all there is to it.
- 29:05Speaker 3: But I think the sport has to at some point
- 29:07Speaker 3: have a conversation about are we mature enough to say that, yeah,
- 29:11Speaker 3: you can have you can be umpired by somebody from
- 29:14Speaker 3: within your own own country, because I think to say
- 29:17Speaker 3: not is probably impugning the umpires. Well, I think it's
- 29:23Speaker 3: like you're saying to the umpires, No, you can't be trusted,
- 29:25Speaker 3: whereas I think like the umpires at our level now,
- 29:29Speaker 3: whether they're from Australia, New Zealand, England, of course they
- 29:33Speaker 3: can be trusted. Right, So I know that they're under
- 29:34Speaker 3: scrutiny and you know they're going to actually just do
- 29:37Speaker 3: their job as umpires rather than go, oh, what do
- 29:39Speaker 3: I need to do to help my team win? So
- 29:42Speaker 3: I think you know, that's probably a discussion that we
- 29:44Speaker 3: should be able to have.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I absolutely agree with you. It's like these are
- 29:47Speaker 2: people who are professional people doing a job. I don't
- 29:49Speaker 2: think they're out there going I'm part of the Australian
- 29:51Speaker 2: yeer squad and I'm going to do it I can.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I didn't love the umpiring in that last game. I
- 29:55Speaker 2: thought there was stuff a whole lot that stopped the
- 29:57Speaker 2: passage of play and that didn't act affect the game.
- 30:01Speaker 2: If had they let it go, would not have affected
- 30:04Speaker 2: the game the outcome, but just made it a much
- 30:06Speaker 2: more stop start thing. And I know there's a lot
- 30:09Speaker 2: of talk about whether they can count to three three seconds.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I think it's a difficult one for the umpires because
- 30:15Speaker 4: there was also a lot of talk around. Does the
- 30:18Speaker 4: umpiring change when you get to Australia, from New Zealand
- 30:21Speaker 4: to Australia, because it is just different.
- 30:24Speaker 5: And I was like, no, I don't. I don't think
- 30:26Speaker 5: that's the case.
- 30:27Speaker 4: But I think it's tough for them because when the
- 30:30Speaker 4: physicality ups, which my god did in Perth, but it
- 30:34Speaker 4: was fair, it was both ways. They want a level
- 30:37Speaker 4: of control and not letting it get out of control.
- 30:40Speaker 4: And then I think you start to see a lot
- 30:42Speaker 4: more of that random whistle blown when maybe it's just
- 30:45Speaker 4: around the timing of when the whistle is blown, because
- 30:48Speaker 4: you've got to stay on top of it, right.
- 30:50Speaker 5: You can't let it be a free for all. And
- 30:52Speaker 5: it was getting heated.
- 30:53Speaker 4: There were plenty of There's plenty of shit going on
- 30:55Speaker 4: off the ball. My god, you could see that all
- 30:58Speaker 4: over the court. But that's the beauty of internet netbat
- 31:00Speaker 4: I's probably love.
- 31:01Speaker 5: It so much.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Interesting. What about having the same umpires for all games
- 31:05Speaker 2: in a series.
- 31:06Speaker 4: Well, they had a pool of three and they rotated
- 31:08Speaker 4: every game, so there wasn't at least one umpire that
- 31:11Speaker 4: did two games. Yeah, so it wasn't exactly the same
- 31:14Speaker 4: every time, but yeah, yeah there is.
- 31:18Speaker 3: But if you're going to bring umpires out from England,
- 31:20Speaker 3: you've got to have a spare umpire, right, so you've
- 31:22Speaker 3: got to in case if someone gets injured or something happens.
- 31:25Speaker 6: Collaborate, you need to reserve.
- 31:28Speaker 3: And if you bring them like give them exposure to
- 31:30Speaker 3: our game and to New Zealand's game. So you know
- 31:34Speaker 3: there's a bit in that. But at the end of
- 31:35Speaker 3: the day, the umpiring had.
- 31:37Speaker 6: No bearing on the result.
- 31:39Speaker 5: What about Test four? Then?
- 31:40Speaker 4: Where's our heads out with Test four? Because like I
- 31:42Speaker 4: said before, I think there's going to be a real
- 31:44Speaker 4: clearing of the benches, particularly for New Zealand because they
- 31:49Speaker 4: have not changed their starting seven much, maybe like five
- 31:52Speaker 4: six minutes here and there.
- 31:54Speaker 5: Those girls are exhausted.
- 31:55Speaker 4: I saw Amelia Ana Canazio in the Corners Club just
- 31:58Speaker 4: about to leave Perth yesterday day before and said, how
- 32:01Speaker 4: are you going? She's We're absolutely shattered. But then I
- 32:04Speaker 4: saw Paris Mason asked the same question.
- 32:06Speaker 5: She has no, Yeah, we're good because she's not played.
- 32:09Speaker 4: So I feel like, when you get to Test four
- 32:11Speaker 4: the series wrapped up, will New Zealand think about something else?
- 32:16Speaker 5: And it was really interesting.
- 32:17Speaker 4: Nollene tabor Or in the press conference afterwards, said that
- 32:20Speaker 4: that will be a discussion. The way they play test
- 32:22Speaker 4: for will be a discussion between herself and the leadership group.
- 32:26Speaker 4: Not about whether they throw the game, because obviously I
- 32:28Speaker 4: think they're still intention to win, but whether they take
- 32:32Speaker 4: a different standpoint or a different view as to how
- 32:35Speaker 4: they line up for the game.
- 32:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:37Speaker 3: And it's interesting, isn't it, because they'll be thinking, do
- 32:40Speaker 3: we take the opportunity to see who.
- 32:42Speaker 6: Can do what out there?
- 32:43Speaker 3: Like this is the game where they've got the series
- 32:46Speaker 3: wrapped up, they've shown what they're totally capable of doing.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Do you say, now, all right, Paris or whoever, you
- 32:52Speaker 3: step out there and you show us what you can
- 32:53Speaker 3: do for a full match against the against you.
- 32:56Speaker 6: You know, the number one team in the world.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Or do you say now in a World Cup you're
- 33:01Speaker 3: all playing tired and I want you to see what
- 33:03Speaker 3: you can do when you're tired and see how fay
- 33:05Speaker 3: you can dig in And we actually are going to
- 33:08Speaker 3: take this opportunity to beat Australia for milk because.
- 33:10Speaker 6: That's what we want to do.
- 33:11Speaker 3: It's never happened, no, right, So are you looking at
- 33:14Speaker 3: your own team in your own team's development and if
- 33:16Speaker 3: there's two ways to do that, one is to blood
- 33:17Speaker 3: more players. Too is to say to the players who
- 33:20Speaker 3: are tired, now's the time to see.
- 33:22Speaker 6: What your mental reserves are like.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Or do you look to the opposition and say, well,
- 33:27Speaker 3: do you want to give them sniff that actually they
- 33:29Speaker 3: might be able to beat us in the future, or
- 33:32Speaker 3: or do you say no, we're actually.
- 33:33Speaker 6: Going to keep our foot on your throat.
- 33:34Speaker 3: I think that's a really interesting thing that they're going
- 33:37Speaker 3: to have to weigh up.
- 33:37Speaker 4: I think the really important part for New Zealand that
- 33:40Speaker 4: they should do is they've got to get a different
- 33:42Speaker 4: goal shoot. If they're without an Awiki going forward, they
- 33:45Speaker 4: have to make a change and see what they're capable
- 33:47Speaker 4: of doing. Because Wilson's the only one that's had any
- 33:49Speaker 4: court time it was like five minutes. Wormsley's not played
- 33:53Speaker 4: at all. She didn't even play any of the England series,
- 33:55Speaker 4: but she's the future of the sport. If Niki's not there, so.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Is not there for at least one Yes, so got
- 34:02Speaker 2: to happen. Well, for what it's worth, Stacy and Noline,
- 34:05Speaker 2: I would be giving the older ones arrest and giving
- 34:08Speaker 2: a whole lot of younger ones an opportunity to see
- 34:11Speaker 2: what they could do. But I have promised the dribblers
- 34:14Speaker 2: that I will tip New Zealand for this game. So
- 34:17Speaker 2: apparently that is the only way that will be broken.
- 34:22Speaker 3: It's not the umpires, it's not the payers.
- 34:27Speaker 2: At least competent host of Not Dribble podcast tipping. So
- 34:31Speaker 2: and this does not play well to my ego because
- 34:33Speaker 2: it makes me think I control the universe with my mind.
- 34:37Speaker 2: But anyway, that's what I'd be doing. Okay, now I
- 34:40Speaker 2: want to talk about something. This is this one. She's
- 34:42Speaker 2: a maid of yours, so I'm going to take the
- 34:44Speaker 2: lead on this one. A lot of people saying Briani
- 34:46Speaker 2: Acle shouldn't be coaching for New Zealand. My view is
- 34:48Speaker 2: brianiy Akle is a professional coach and if we want
- 34:50Speaker 2: her coaching for Australia, we should find the money and
- 34:52Speaker 2: hire her, and that she should be doing whatever she
- 34:55Speaker 2: can to improve herself as a professional coach and in
- 34:59Speaker 2: doing so, one day, if she's the Diamonds coach, we're
- 35:02Speaker 2: all going to benefit from it.
- 35:04Speaker 5: I agreed. I couldn't agree more.
- 35:06Speaker 4: It's funny because I caught up with Briani in Perth
- 35:08Speaker 4: we're staying at the same hotel. And she said that
- 35:11Speaker 4: a lot of people have said traitor to her as
- 35:14Speaker 4: there been walking past. I think quite a few people
- 35:17Speaker 4: that know her within the rank. So it's a little
- 35:19Speaker 4: bit in jest, but she said it also hits home.
- 35:22Speaker 5: Of course it does.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Like it also does you know, it upsets to a degree.
- 35:26Speaker 4: But of course she's like, if they want me coaching
- 35:28Speaker 4: in Australia, love to love.
- 35:31Speaker 2: To show me the money. Yeah, what she meant to
- 35:35Speaker 2: do sit around and pass up these professional opportunities I
- 35:37Speaker 2: wouldn't have thought.
- 35:38Speaker 6: So there is a process that she went through.
- 35:40Speaker 3: So it's not like she just goes like she's got
- 35:44Speaker 3: to get a dispensation from their ball Australia to do that.
- 35:46Speaker 3: And you know, the bigger picture is her development, right
- 35:51Speaker 3: because you still want her bringing that knowledge that she
- 35:53Speaker 3: gets back into the Australian pathway and she does that
- 35:57Speaker 3: right then she comes back in and she coached as
- 35:59Speaker 3: a swift. I did see her on Sunday night and
- 36:02Speaker 3: I gave her a hug and I said, I hate you.
- 36:05Speaker 4: She must be salivating though, because not only is the
- 36:08Speaker 4: team that she's coaching getting the winds up, but she's
- 36:10Speaker 4: also looking at her future recruit next year.
- 36:14Speaker 5: I can't wait to get my hands on her.
- 36:17Speaker 3: So it would be interesting though, like for Paige and
- 36:20Speaker 3: for Sarah seeing their club coach on the bench for
- 36:23Speaker 3: the Silver Firs. But yeah, that's the nature of sport,
- 36:25Speaker 3: right And I think you know, Brian would have expected it,
- 36:30Speaker 3: you know, when she when she took the job. And
- 36:32Speaker 3: I think the opportunity to learn under someone like Nola
- 36:35Speaker 3: and Tara.
- 36:36Speaker 6: And I've said this before.
- 36:37Speaker 3: She's like, she plays in a whole other dimension from
- 36:39Speaker 3: the rest of us immortals.
- 36:41Speaker 6: She's thinking so far ahead.
- 36:43Speaker 3: She's like this chess grandmaster, and so Brian for one
- 36:46Speaker 3: of our top coaches to go in to learn from
- 36:48Speaker 3: that and to come back and then you know, who
- 36:50Speaker 3: knows what will happen into the future.
- 36:52Speaker 6: But she certainly then gets to put that into our system.
- 36:55Speaker 6: I think you've got to do it.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Funny you mentioned Paige Hadley and Sarah Cloud because I
- 36:59Speaker 4: was thinking about them as well, but more so to
- 37:02Speaker 4: the point that they're in a team that's struggling and
- 37:06Speaker 4: the person that they would love to go and vent
- 37:08Speaker 4: to or chat to or whatever is Briny, But they
- 37:11Speaker 4: got I think you're doing such a great relationship with her,
- 37:15Speaker 4: and she knows the game obviously inside and out. That's
- 37:18Speaker 4: the one person that's right there. They can't go and
- 37:20Speaker 4: have a chat within that environment.
- 37:21Speaker 3: And it really is a professionalism of our sport, right,
- 37:24Speaker 3: We've got to have these really uncomfortable moments as we
- 37:26Speaker 3: move towards the idea that everyone is professional. You know
- 37:29Speaker 3: that your players are professional, your coaches are professional, your
- 37:32Speaker 3: umpires are professional. Right, And that's the conversation we had before.
- 37:35Speaker 3: So there's all these growing pains that you have to
- 37:37Speaker 3: go through, and I think we can have really nuanced
- 37:40Speaker 3: conversations about, Okay, where does what's your decision making matrix,
- 37:44Speaker 3: what do you allow, what do you actually say no to?
- 37:46Speaker 6: And how do we navigate it? And we're all learning
- 37:48Speaker 6: through this.
- 37:51Speaker 2: So one of the most important things we do in
- 37:53Speaker 2: this podcast every week is to acknowledge those people who
- 37:56Speaker 2: keep our game alive at the community level, and again
- 37:59Speaker 2: we rely on you, dear Dribblers, to nominate those people
- 38:03Speaker 2: who are doing that wonderful job. A few weeks ago,
- 38:06Speaker 2: we nominated Niki Komoy Buckley for her work in jollying
- 38:10Speaker 2: the party along at our live event and making everyone
- 38:13Speaker 2: feel welcome and included. She has given us the teeny tiniest, friendliest,
- 38:20Speaker 2: warmest correct rap on the knuckles because in so doing
- 38:24Speaker 2: we missed fifty percent of that team. So let's have
- 38:27Speaker 2: a listen to a nomination from NICKI. I want to
- 38:30Speaker 2: nominate Sharon Buckley.
- 38:31Speaker 6: Sharon is a supervan of Netble. Not only she spent.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Most of her life playing indoor and outdoor, she is
- 38:37Speaker 1: a B badged umpire who has helped coach a mentor
- 38:40Speaker 1: many others with their badging. She's also coached indoor, outdoor
- 38:43Speaker 1: and school netple and has made many last long friends
- 38:46Speaker 1: through the sport. She's retired now due to a wonderful
- 38:50Speaker 1: thing called age and injuries, but continues to be a
- 38:52Speaker 1: Grade five Napple stalker when it comes to watching and
- 38:55Speaker 1: following netple.
- 38:56Speaker 6: She's been watching Captain Lee since.
- 38:58Speaker 1: They first started, will some of her most favorite players.
- 39:01Speaker 1: We're blessed to enjoy many Netble adventures. We've been to
- 39:04Speaker 1: Fast five in Melbourne, Diamonds Games, Swifts Games, and we have.
- 39:07Speaker 6: Foundation Giants members.
- 39:09Speaker 1: We've been to both Centurion shows and we loved coming
- 39:12Speaker 1: to the No Dribble Live show. Not only getting to
- 39:14Speaker 1: meet Carolyn for the first time, but interacting with lots
- 39:17Speaker 1: of amazing dribblers. We saved the podcast up the weekends
- 39:20Speaker 1: where we can sit and enjoy the show. Sharon lives
- 39:23Speaker 1: and Breeze Netball and I couldn't think of a more
- 39:24Speaker 1: deserving person as a wind beneath their wings nomination as
- 39:27Speaker 1: an avid scrunchy wearer in support of our network teams.
- 39:30Speaker 1: She will wear the new Dribble scrunchy with pride, Sorr
- 39:32Speaker 1: Kath and on a personal note, I would love to
- 39:35Speaker 1: not have to share my scrunchy with her, So to
- 39:37Speaker 1: some up here, honor, please accept my nomination for Sharon Buckley,
- 39:40Speaker 1: as she's not only the win beneath your wings, she's
- 39:43Speaker 1: also the win beneath mine.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Well, thank you, Nikki, you are dead right, and Sharon,
- 39:49Speaker 2: you are also the win beneath our wings. You join
- 39:51Speaker 2: the ranks of some twenty five other people now around
- 39:54Speaker 2: the world and now I have the address of our
- 39:57Speaker 2: wind beneath our winger in Liverpool. This is post office
- 40:00Speaker 2: for me, so expect for me to have a traumatic
- 40:03Speaker 2: story next week when we come in. Yes, even worse
- 40:06Speaker 2: than the watering canned story.
- 40:07Speaker 5: I think home anyway.
- 40:09Speaker 2: But one exciting thing that we have done in the
- 40:12Speaker 2: past week is we've been looking at designs for our
- 40:15Speaker 2: merchandise range, which will be going on sale sometime in November.
- 40:20Speaker 2: We're going to have a really short sharp ordering period,
- 40:23Speaker 2: and the plan is that it will be available for Christmas,
- 40:26Speaker 2: for Christmas presents for yourself or for others. Yeah, but
- 40:30Speaker 2: that's fine. We're getting some No Dribble merch out by Christmas,
- 40:33Speaker 2: just for that.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Trying to finalize what color fluff to have on the
- 40:36Speaker 4: handcuffs and then.
- 40:39Speaker 2: We'll be with you and the three of us have
- 40:41Speaker 2: been road testing the g strings, but we think that
- 40:43Speaker 2: they might not be for sale after.
- 40:47Speaker 6: Not the ones that we've been wearing any.
- 40:51Speaker 2: You're paying more for that. On that note, I think
- 40:54Speaker 2: that we have descended into something quite ridiculous. So I
- 40:57Speaker 2: think we should sign off now for another week. This
- 40:58Speaker 2: has been No Dribble the podcast where we talk about
- 41:01Speaker 2: lizzellis is old Underwear now apparently as well as Nith Well,
- 41:04Speaker 2: I'm Caroline Swindell.
- 41:05Speaker 5: I'm kath Cox. Go the Diamonds tonight. Come on, girl, Yeah,
- 41:10Speaker 5: come on, We're with you.
- 41:11Speaker 2: We are with you.
- 41:13Speaker 3: I second that emotion I'm lozells.
- 41:15Speaker 2: See you guys have a great week.
- 41:16Speaker 5: Bye sounds like bye emotion.
