- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:03Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Playfake going to roll right, dumps it off of the
- 0:06Speaker 2: right flat to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off of one
- 0:09Speaker 2: tackler catch inside the forty down of the forty.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Five yard line powered by seahawks dot Com.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Matt pumpfake's looking at the gold line. He throws it
- 0:16Speaker 3: into the m zone. Touchdown Sehawks. It's Michael Bumpas with
- 0:20Speaker 3: a diving catch in the end zone. A ten yard touchdown.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Receptions for Bumpers, and the kid out of Washington State
- 0:27Speaker 3: has found himself a place on this team.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Now here's your host, Nasa Chobie. Welcome into another edition
- 0:34Speaker 1: of Hawk Talk, the Seahawks getting ready to take on
- 0:39Speaker 1: these Minnesota Vikings the Vikings looming Field broadcasting line from
- 0:43Speaker 1: Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the official partner of
- 0:46Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks. Bump I don't even describe it. Everyone
- 0:48Speaker 1: knows out there this is a big game. Yeah, big
- 0:50Speaker 1: time guy, gotta have it. Seahawks lost to the Packers
- 0:53Speaker 1: last week. It didn't end the season. I think a
- 0:55Speaker 1: lot of us have talked about that you had to
- 0:57Speaker 1: win one of the next two games. You knew the
- 0:58Speaker 1: Packers in the Vikings and the NFC North was gonna
- 1:00Speaker 1: be big contests, and boy, do you need this one.
- 1:04Speaker 4: This is the game. Last game that was a game too.
- 1:07Speaker 4: You get that out the way, you feel better about
- 1:08Speaker 4: whatever happens this game. But this is the game. You
- 1:12Speaker 4: gotta get this done. The Vikings are good. Sam Donald's bat,
- 1:15Speaker 4: Kevin O'Connell probably gonna get Coach of the Year. Brian
- 1:17Speaker 4: Flores second year with the Vikings defense got them going.
- 1:20Speaker 4: You gotta show up.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah, this game is gonna be a hard run for
- 1:23Speaker 1: the For the Seahawks, definitely. They are Stacked're gonna go
- 1:25Speaker 1: through all the matchups. What you need to know, but
- 1:27Speaker 1: first is get into them. What's on tap? What's on tap?
- 1:33Speaker 1: These Vikings are twelve and two, second place in the
- 1:36Speaker 1: NFC North, technically tied for first place with the Tetroit Lions.
- 1:39Speaker 1: The Lions had beat them early in the year, but
- 1:41Speaker 1: these two teams play each other in a couple of weeks,
- 1:43Speaker 1: so they have that going for him. The Vikings have
- 1:45Speaker 1: beat the Giants, the forty nine Ers, Texans, Packers, Jets, Colts, Jags, Titans, Bears, Cardinals, Falcons,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and Bears. They've lost to just those Lions and those
- 1:56Speaker 1: Los Angeles Rams. That was the one game where Sam
- 1:58Speaker 1: Darnold got that face mass in the back of the
- 2:00Speaker 1: end zone. They didn't call it on Monday night. They're
- 2:02Speaker 1: already down by a score. I believe they're gonna have
- 2:04Speaker 1: to go to the length of the field. But they
- 2:05Speaker 1: lost that game. These guys are good, bump, and I'm
- 2:09Speaker 1: not going to say they took advantage. They did what
- 2:11Speaker 1: they were supposed to do against a not very good
- 2:13Speaker 1: football team last week against the Bears.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Yeah, they kept it rolling. They won thirty to twelve.
- 2:19Speaker 4: They have now clinched a spot in the playoffs. They've
- 2:22Speaker 4: won seven games in a row, so they're good to go.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Like you mentioned, they're tied technically with the Lions twelve
- 2:27Speaker 4: to two.
- 2:28Speaker 3: They'll play them again. But the Vikings weren't in control. Man.
- 2:32Speaker 4: They finished leading by double digits for most of the game,
- 2:35Speaker 4: about fifty minutes. Sam Darnold was twenty four or forty
- 2:38Speaker 4: two hundred and thirty one yards, one touchdown, one interception.
- 2:40Speaker 4: He did have a thirty yard touchdown pass dropped by
- 2:43Speaker 4: Justin Jeferson.
- 2:44Speaker 3: You're not going to see that Offen. Don't beg on that.
- 2:46Speaker 4: And then he threw his first interception in five games
- 2:49Speaker 4: three plays later. Aaron Drones remember that guy, he used
- 2:52Speaker 4: to play for the Packers. He had eighty six yards
- 2:54Speaker 4: on eighteen carries.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, very good football team. They did what
- 2:58Speaker 1: they're supposed to do.
- 2:59Speaker 3: The Bears.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I've been in all kinds of you know, if I
- 3:02Speaker 1: either head, coach, different promotions, things like that. Cale Williams
- 3:06Speaker 1: still getting hit. Look at him on the sideline looking
- 3:08Speaker 1: all hurt. It's been tough for that number one pick,
- 3:10Speaker 1: looking sad over there. He'll be all right, though he
- 3:13Speaker 1: has to be turned the ball over a lot.
- 3:14Speaker 4: So as long as he's not turning the ball over
- 3:16Speaker 4: a lot, then you can be optimistic he'll be okay.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Just need to coach, yeah, and he can be okay.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I don't know in week eighteen, because the Seahawks do play
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Bears in two weeks after Christmas, so hopefully they're
- 3:26Speaker 1: still struggling quite frankly when that game comes around. Anyway,
- 3:30Speaker 1: these vikings, they continue to find ways to win. As
- 3:32Speaker 1: we look at the head to head comparison, bump ball.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Start here with the offense. Seahawks tied for fifteenth in
- 3:37Speaker 1: the NFL, averaging three hundred and thirty four yards a game,
- 3:40Speaker 1: twenty eighth in rush offense at ninety four game pass offense,
- 3:43Speaker 1: they are fifth in the NFL two hundred and forty
- 3:45Speaker 1: yards per game. In points per game, they are fourteenth
- 3:48Speaker 1: at twenty two points per game. Flip it over to
- 3:50Speaker 1: the Vikings, they're pretty close to the Seahawks. They're better
- 3:53Speaker 1: at running the ball though. They are twelfth when it
- 3:55Speaker 1: comes to total offense three hundred and forty nine yards
- 3:57Speaker 1: a game, fifteenth, middle of the pack when it comes
- 4:00Speaker 1: to running the ball at one hundred and thirteen yards
- 4:02Speaker 1: per game. Pass offense, they're eighth at two thirty six
- 4:05Speaker 1: and points per game they're tied for eighth at twenty
- 4:07Speaker 1: six point four. So yeah, they edge the Seahawks in
- 4:09Speaker 1: most categories, will not by a lot. They are in
- 4:12Speaker 1: explosive players on offense without question. When you look at
- 4:15Speaker 1: the numbers. Sam Dardinel, surgeons will talk a lot about him.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But the Seahawks aren't that far off.
- 4:19Speaker 3: No, they're not. And it's cool to see that they're
- 4:21Speaker 3: not that far off.
- 4:22Speaker 4: And we know what the Vikings have offensively over there
- 4:25Speaker 4: when it comes to their personnel. Defensively, the Seahawks are
- 4:28Speaker 4: nineteenth overall. The Vikings are thirteenth. The Hawks are twenty
- 4:31Speaker 4: second against the run, the Vikings are second. This is
- 4:33Speaker 4: where the number switches a little bit. Gotta be good
- 4:36Speaker 4: against the run or run the ball good against this
- 4:38Speaker 4: team that's pretty good against the pass. The Hawks are
- 4:40Speaker 4: thirteenth against the pass, the Vikings are twenty ninth points allowed.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Hawks are allowing twenty two point four, that's fifteenth. The
- 4:46Speaker 4: Vikings are allowing eighteen points. That is fourth. Time of possession.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Vikings get the nod there and interceptions twenty interceptions on
- 4:54Speaker 4: the year.
- 4:55Speaker 3: They are getting after it and the Hawks have eleven.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah, talk about this. They will take the ball away.
- 5:01Speaker 1: That's two straight weeks the Seahawks are playing the teams.
- 5:03Speaker 1: They do a great job in the back end taking
- 5:05Speaker 1: the football away, and then you could have turnover differential
- 5:08Speaker 1: Seahawks and negative five.
- 5:09Speaker 3: They're at plus eight because they take the ball away.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So definitely something that we're gonna, you know, keep looking
- 5:14Speaker 1: at this week as the Seahawks take on these Vikings
- 5:17Speaker 1: and for a while they're kind of felt like they
- 5:18Speaker 1: were playing every year.
- 5:19Speaker 3: But let's know the history between these two teams, no
- 5:23Speaker 3: your history.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Seahawks lead all time series thirteen to six. The Seahawks
- 5:27Speaker 1: have have the one to ozer edge in the postseason
- 5:29Speaker 1: if you guys remember the Blair Walsh game. The Seahawks
- 5:32Speaker 1: have won seven of the last eight matchups against these guys.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Last meeting, though, was the one the Seahawks didn't get
- 5:37Speaker 1: against the Vikings was twenty twenty one, this first time
- 5:40Speaker 1: and the only win for the Vikings in this series
- 5:42Speaker 1: since oh nine. The Seahawks fell thirty to seventeen on
- 5:44Speaker 1: the road. Started off pretty good. Russell found DK for
- 5:47Speaker 1: a ten yeard touchdown. Then the Vikings answered Chris Carson
- 5:50Speaker 1: got in the end zone. The Seahawks at one point
- 5:52Speaker 1: had a ten point lead, but then it was all
- 5:54Speaker 1: Vikings from then on out. They scored the final twenty
- 5:56Speaker 1: three points. Kirk Cousins had a solid day, going thirty
- 5:58Speaker 1: thirty eight three twenty five three and three touchdowns no picks.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Madison had one hundred twelve yards rushing. Justin Jefferson was
- 6:05Speaker 1: younger than was still balling nine receptions one hundred and
- 6:07Speaker 1: eighteen yards in a touchdown. DK led through Seahawks receivers.
- 6:11Speaker 1: He had one hundred seven yards in a tud Hopefully
- 6:12Speaker 1: see a little bit of that on Sunday, and Chris
- 6:15Speaker 1: Karr should finish to the day eighty yards twelfth carries
- 6:17Speaker 1: in a touchdown. Crazy thing about this bump. That doesn't
- 6:19Speaker 1: feel like it was that long ago because I remember
- 6:21Speaker 1: that game pretty well. Actually, not one person who made
- 6:24Speaker 1: a tackle on defense a day is on this football team.
- 6:26Speaker 4: That's wild. See, I wasn't even thinking about this game.
- 6:29Speaker 4: My mind automatically went to COVID. That was a drive
- 6:33Speaker 4: the drive drive when DK had like three or four catches,
- 6:36Speaker 4: one on the sideline.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Fourth and six, like fifty yards is bomb on the
- 6:39Speaker 1: sideline up in a game when he touched out.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I racist from my memory. I knew you were going
- 6:44Speaker 3: to go back to the COVID game, but I guess
- 6:45Speaker 3: I was wrong.
- 6:46Speaker 1: No, that was the next one, and then Tyler and
- 6:47Speaker 1: Dka had the only ones on offense from that game
- 6:49Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one.
- 6:50Speaker 3: So man, things changed, Yeah, quickly, things changed.
- 6:53Speaker 1: But the Seahawks have rebuilt themselves and are looking to
- 6:55Speaker 1: rebound against the Minnesota Vikings.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Before we do that.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Let's check on the NFC West, what's the word and.
- 7:04Speaker 3: The Seahawks or the NFC West champs?
- 7:07Speaker 1: Again, what's the word in the West?
- 7:10Speaker 3: On Hawk talk? All right, let's look at the standings.
- 7:14Speaker 4: The Rams are eight and six, the Hawks are eight
- 7:16Speaker 4: and six, the Cardinals are seven to seven, and the
- 7:18Speaker 4: Niners are six in eight. With the loss, technically the
- 7:21Speaker 4: Seahawks fell out of first place in the division. If
- 7:23Speaker 4: the playoffs started today, which they don't, the Hawks would
- 7:26Speaker 4: be out. But the Seahawks still control their own destiny
- 7:29Speaker 4: and will win the NFC West if they went out.
- 7:32Speaker 4: As simple as that, control your own destiny. The remaining
- 7:35Speaker 4: schedule for the Seahawks got the vikings. Of course, this
- 7:38Speaker 4: week you're going on the road, pack your bags, going
- 7:40Speaker 4: to Chicago, play the Bears. You're going to La to
- 7:43Speaker 4: play the Rams. The Rams have to travel east coast.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Hopefully that jet lad gets them all right, got to
- 7:48Speaker 4: play the Jets, and then they have the Cardinals, and
- 7:50Speaker 4: then of course naturally you end with the Seahawks, the Cardinals,
- 7:53Speaker 4: you got to play the Panthers, the Rams in the Niners.
- 7:57Speaker 4: So it's set up for them. It's not the way
- 7:59Speaker 4: we wanted it. We wanted to be able to spare
- 8:01Speaker 4: a game if need be, But so what, you control
- 8:04Speaker 4: your own destiny. That's all you can ask for at
- 8:06Speaker 4: this point of the season.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Yeah, no question about it.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I mean again, the thing that we didn't like last
- 8:11Speaker 1: year the last two years quite frankly the Seahawks got
- 8:13Speaker 1: in the playoffs once Dent the other time, is having
- 8:15Speaker 1: to rely on other teams. It's always nice when you
- 8:17Speaker 1: can take care business on your own. The Seahawks still
- 8:19Speaker 1: have that in front of them, like you mentioned, so
- 8:21Speaker 1: hopefull they can get that done. We are broadcasting live
- 8:23Speaker 1: from the Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the official
- 8:26Speaker 1: partner of the Seahawks Bump and Patriots Cardinals.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Here's the cool thing about the Cardinals.
- 8:32Speaker 1: So we're all just going to come Cardinals fans for
- 8:34Speaker 1: the remainder of the season. Seahawks will beat them twice.
- 8:36Speaker 1: They have the tiebreaker there. We need the Cardinals to
- 8:39Speaker 1: stay active and stay relevant. We need them to win
- 8:41Speaker 1: this weekend. So next weekend against the Rams, that game
- 8:44Speaker 1: means something and they still feel like they could win
- 8:46Speaker 1: the NFC West. They took care of business against the
- 8:49Speaker 1: Patriots this last week didn't start well for them. They
- 8:52Speaker 1: lost two starting linebackers on the first five plays of
- 8:54Speaker 1: the game. They rallied back from that. They took a
- 8:58Speaker 1: sixteen to three fourth quarter lead. Dames Connor had two
- 9:00Speaker 1: fourth quarter touchdowns, kind of stealed the deal against the Patriots.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Caler Murray twenty three to thirty two, twenty four, no touchdowns,
- 9:07Speaker 1: no picks. He was fortunate he almost had a pick six.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I was ran back. There was a penalty on the play.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Good to go there. Trey McBride did his thing eighty
- 9:15Speaker 1: seven yards on nine catches, and uh yeah, So they
- 9:18Speaker 1: took care of business. They're still in it. And obviously
- 9:22Speaker 1: we're gonna be big Jets fans this weekend as well.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And I just I say all that because I just
- 9:28Speaker 1: like have extra assurances. I like to be easy, just
- 9:30Speaker 1: like anyone else. I'd like it to be easy, everything
- 9:32Speaker 1: set up for you. Yeah, the guys in that locker
- 9:34Speaker 1: room know none of that matters. They're not looking at
- 9:35Speaker 1: the scoreboard. They're looking at the team in front of them.
- 9:37Speaker 1: So they just got to take care of business there.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Forty nine ers. No one's thinking about y'all right now, No,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's Raphael it is what it is, Raphael, And we
- 9:46Speaker 1: can say that because we don't play him again this year.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Split We split too, So when's the last time we
- 9:51Speaker 4: split with the Niners.
- 9:51Speaker 1: It's been twenty twenty nineteen, goodness grace nineteen because we
- 9:56Speaker 1: I think the Seahawks got him both in twenty and
- 9:58Speaker 1: got him both in twenty one and then lost the
- 10:00Speaker 1: next couple.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Talk about that, all right.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Anyway, get back to these Minnesota Vikings, Bump and I'm
- 10:05Speaker 1: gonna let you start this one off because this is
- 10:07Speaker 1: your guy, My dude, Sam Darnald.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Not say who you got, who you got? You know
- 10:12Speaker 3: what time it is. Man up Man up, brother, man
- 10:14Speaker 3: up man up on Hawk Talk.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Like you mentioned, he was my guy up to this point.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Now after this game he can be my guy again.
- 10:23Speaker 4: But Sam Darnold, man, I have faith in this man
- 10:25Speaker 4: going to the Vikings and he did not disappoint man
- 10:28Speaker 4: his seventh NFL season, which is crazy. It's been a
- 10:31Speaker 4: bumpy ride. It was a third overall pick to the
- 10:33Speaker 4: New York Jets in twenty eighteen. He got drafted out
- 10:36Speaker 4: of USC You know they put out them quarterbacks.
- 10:38Speaker 3: On his time in New York, he was pretty bad. Man,
- 10:40Speaker 3: it wasn't great.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Thirty eight games there, he was just thirteen to twenty five,
- 10:43Speaker 4: sixty percent passer with forty five touchdowns thirty nine interceptions.
- 10:48Speaker 4: He famously was caught saying out he's seeing ghosts and
- 10:51Speaker 4: that's messed up, and I got that dirty that is
- 10:53Speaker 4: going to live with him for the rest of his life.
- 10:55Speaker 4: So the Jets now have I'm seeing ghosts in the
- 10:58Speaker 4: butt fumble. They got two situations for a quarterback. But
- 11:03Speaker 4: you can't blame him. No one has success over there
- 11:05Speaker 4: at the quarterback spot. Chad Penning didn't have some success
- 11:08Speaker 4: back in the day. Maybe vin At tested.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Very but Marcianchez did when they had a good defense.
- 11:11Speaker 1: But we're talking over fourteen years ago. Yeah, it's been
- 11:13Speaker 1: it's been a while. The Sam Donald he was then
- 11:16Speaker 1: traded to the Panthers. He stayed there for one year.
- 11:18Speaker 1: There were four and seven.
- 11:19Speaker 4: He had twenty five hundred yards, nine touchdowns, twelve interceptions.
- 11:22Speaker 4: He was benched the following year for Baker Mayfield. He
- 11:25Speaker 4: spent the last year at the backup in San Francisco
- 11:27Speaker 4: before signing with the Vikings in April, and then JJ
- 11:30Speaker 4: McCarthy was drafted tenth. Overall, the Vikings are feeling good.
- 11:34Speaker 4: You got your insurance playing. Guess what insurance comes to
- 11:37Speaker 4: clutch when you need it, And that's what Sam Donald
- 11:39Speaker 4: has been insurance and he's came through clutch. Man McCarthy
- 11:42Speaker 4: tore his meniscus, he's been out for the whole season.
- 11:45Speaker 3: But Sam Donald's ball. He's playing like he's a pro bowler.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Man gylready has career highs in almost every category, games, completions, attempts, yards, touchdowns,
- 11:53Speaker 4: QB RAN and QBR all of that.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Through Week fifteen. There's where he stands as a passer.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Passer rating his fourth asing touchdowns he's fifth, passing yards
- 12:01Speaker 4: he has sixth, and the completion percentage he is twelve.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Donald leads the NFL with fifty three completions of twenty
- 12:09Speaker 4: yards or more with thirty four and at least twenty
- 12:11Speaker 4: five thirty four completions with at least twenty five.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yards this season.
- 12:15Speaker 4: And you know why, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Alps, we got
- 12:18Speaker 4: to talk about that.
- 12:19Speaker 3: You got Hockinson over there as well.
- 12:21Speaker 4: My man is balling this year and it's fun to see,
- 12:24Speaker 4: but I don't need to see him ball this weekend,
- 12:26Speaker 4: get back to your old Jets self, Sam Darnald.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Sam's doing a great surprise. I mean a lot
- 12:31Speaker 1: of people will draw the easy comparison to Gino Smith.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Obviously it's not exactly the same, but the same deal
- 12:35Speaker 1: where you were cast it aside your thought a certain
- 12:37Speaker 1: type of way. Granted, Sam Donald was a top five pick,
- 12:39Speaker 1: Gino was a second rounder, but you see the parallels
- 12:42Speaker 1: of maybe you were giving up on too early and
- 12:44Speaker 1: he's balling out.
- 12:44Speaker 3: I mean, the numbers don't lie.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I mean ty for second the season with ten games,
- 12:47Speaker 1: at least two touchdown passes, one hundred plus passer rating
- 12:50Speaker 1: eleven to fourteen games.
- 12:51Speaker 3: He's a man.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He's getting it done right now for them, and it
- 12:54Speaker 1: couldn't be a better scenario for them. I don't know
- 12:57Speaker 1: how much goes credit should go to Kevin O'Connell. I
- 13:00Speaker 1: think it's kind of a joint thing. But regardless of him,
- 13:02Speaker 1: Darnold has earned a big payday, whether it's going to
- 13:05Speaker 1: be with the Vikings or another team. So we'll see.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Hopefully s aus can contain him. We don't want him
- 13:10Speaker 1: getting off this weekend. So going on to our quarterback,
- 13:14Speaker 1: Gino Smith called Gino now biggest storyline coming to the week.
- 13:18Speaker 1: We've been talking about it. We've been concerned about it.
- 13:20Speaker 1: What's going on with Geno who's unable to finish the
- 13:22Speaker 1: game against the Packers that had a huge effect in
- 13:24Speaker 1: the game. Coach McDonald spoke on Wednesday about the status
- 13:28Speaker 1: of Geno Smith.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Gino feels good, did walk through today. We'll see how
- 13:34Speaker 2: many reps. We got a plan for practice. We'll see
- 13:36Speaker 2: how it kind of alters as practice. Arts is a
- 13:37Speaker 2: clear but he'll be out there for a significant capacity today.
- 13:41Speaker 2: We'll see how many reps he takes.
- 13:45Speaker 1: The nice thing there, bump is after that he was
- 13:47Speaker 1: a full participant in practice.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Yep.
- 13:49Speaker 1: The optimism is still there, which is great for him.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Gino spoke at the podium today and he said, hey man,
- 13:54Speaker 1: he's getting better every day.
- 13:56Speaker 3: He expects to play, and I think we expect to
- 13:58Speaker 3: see him there.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Usually if you're full participent on Wednesday after an injury
- 14:01Speaker 1: like that, you're gonna play. It's when he's on the
- 14:04Speaker 1: injury report DMP, DMP, So feel good about it. Again,
- 14:07Speaker 1: I'm not in charge of the final injury report, only
- 14:09Speaker 1: coach McDonald's speaks on that.
- 14:10Speaker 3: So that'll come out on Friday.
- 14:12Speaker 1: But it's looking good and I hope so, because when
- 14:14Speaker 1: Gino was in there, he had the bad interception we
- 14:16Speaker 1: know against the Packers, but he was fifteen to nineteen,
- 14:18Speaker 1: one to forty nine in a touchdown. He ended his
- 14:20Speaker 1: turnoverless streak at two games, which we need to get
- 14:23Speaker 1: started again. He's fifth place in essentially every meaningful category
- 14:26Speaker 1: among quarterbacks in franchise history. He's still fourth in attempts
- 14:29Speaker 1: in the NFL this year, second in completions, third in
- 14:32Speaker 1: passing yards in fifth and completion percentage. So we know
- 14:35Speaker 1: what he can do and we need him because he
- 14:37Speaker 1: gives the Seahawks the best opportunity to win football games.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I think that is clear as day. But this defense
- 14:43Speaker 1: of the Vikings got it is no joke. Yeah, they
- 14:45Speaker 1: can get her done. Man's good, holy smokes defense. But
- 14:48Speaker 1: when you look at it, Bump, I'll just say this
- 14:49Speaker 1: last thing. Twenty ninth against the pass, Okay, they can't
- 14:53Speaker 1: do anything. Thirteenth overall defense, they're not good, Bump. What'd
- 14:56Speaker 1: you see from him? Oh yeah, they're not good. First
- 14:57Speaker 1: in interceptions though, so they'll give up some.
- 15:00Speaker 4: But also of you if you lay it up there,
- 15:02Speaker 4: they will snatch it out the air. They got Griffin
- 15:04Speaker 4: over there, former, you got Gilmour over there on the
- 15:07Speaker 4: other side. You know, was a Player of the Year
- 15:10Speaker 4: defensively one year, and then you got Harrison in the backfield.
- 15:12Speaker 4: So they might not look great on paper twenty nine
- 15:14Speaker 4: against the past thirteenth. Overall, they are first one it
- 15:17Speaker 4: comes to interceptions and in their first and passes defended
- 15:20Speaker 4: second in takeaways. They will be active. Don't let the
- 15:23Speaker 4: stats fool you. Watch that film. They can play, but
- 15:25Speaker 4: I think the Hawks can handle it. Let's look at
- 15:27Speaker 4: their running back, Aaron Jones. Eight years in the game.
- 15:30Speaker 4: It feels like he's been there a lot longer than
- 15:33Speaker 4: eight years. His whole career has been in the NFC North,
- 15:36Speaker 4: so he knows this team in that division very well.
- 15:40Speaker 4: He spent his first seven seasons with Green Bay before
- 15:42Speaker 4: joining the rival Vikings. This past offseason, the Packers made
- 15:46Speaker 4: the switch at running back, bringing in Josh Jacobs. Good
- 15:48Speaker 4: move for them. They also have what Warren over there
- 15:51Speaker 4: as well. No, no Warrens with the Pittsburgh Pittler I'm
- 15:55Speaker 4: tripping a right. Never mind, forget all that, but he's
- 15:57Speaker 4: a former fifth round pick out of UTEP. The UTEP
- 15:59Speaker 4: put out ballers low Key, who's already had a pretty
- 16:02Speaker 4: solid career Since becoming a full time starter in twenty nineteen.
- 16:05Speaker 4: He has three one thousand yard rushing seasons and just
- 16:07Speaker 4: twenty one yards away from one thousand this season. Jones
- 16:11Speaker 4: is also a threatened the pass game, averaging three hundred
- 16:13Speaker 4: and sixty two yards receiving per season since twenty nineteen.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Jones has reached eighty five yards rushing in seven of
- 16:20Speaker 4: the Vikings fourteen games in twenty twenty four, tied for
- 16:23Speaker 4: the fourth most games with eighty five plus rushing yards.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Only Saquon Barkley, Jon Robinson, and KM Williams have more
- 16:30Speaker 4: games at eighty five plus shards this season.
- 16:32Speaker 3: That's a good group to be with.
- 16:33Speaker 4: There's a new wave of running backs in this league,
- 16:35Speaker 4: and Aaron Jones is still hanging out with the old
- 16:37Speaker 4: heads like Day Henry and Saquon.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I guess yeah, man, it's all good. I mean with
- 16:41Speaker 1: the young kids. Be calling them unk, right, all three
- 16:43Speaker 1: of them. But they're balling. Yeah, but they're balling, So
- 16:46Speaker 1: show your respect to your elders.
- 16:47Speaker 3: God darn it.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Now, Aaron Jones is a baller. We know he's balled.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Anytime you're in category like that. He's consistent. Eighty five
- 16:52Speaker 1: rush yards a game. That's consistent. The Seahawks had figured
- 16:56Speaker 1: out their run defense, and I still think they have.
- 16:58Speaker 1: They had a rough first half, really a rough first
- 17:00Speaker 1: couple drives against the Packers.
- 17:01Speaker 3: After that they were good.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Jones had or excuse me, Josh Jacobs had just twenty
- 17:05Speaker 1: one yards the second half after getting seventy four in
- 17:07Speaker 1: the first half last week. So the Seahawks defense definitely
- 17:10Speaker 1: need to step up there and hopefully they can keep
- 17:12Speaker 1: it going because Aaron Jones is a baller. We're broadcasting
- 17:15Speaker 1: from the Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the official
- 17:18Speaker 1: partner of the Seattle Seahawks. You talked up with the
- 17:20Speaker 1: receivers bump there they was dudes, straight up Justin Jefferson,
- 17:24Speaker 1: Jordan Addison.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I'll throw T. J.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Hawkins in there because he just came back. I could
- 17:28Speaker 1: go for days about Justin Jefferson. We could do another
- 17:30Speaker 1: forty five minutes just on his stats alone. Since he
- 17:33Speaker 1: stepped in the league, baller, straight up immediately, one of
- 17:36Speaker 1: the best. He's got a thousand yards receiving in each
- 17:38Speaker 1: of his first five NFL seasons. Three time Pro Bowler
- 17:42Speaker 1: twenty twenty two is in All Pro with one hundred
- 17:44Speaker 1: and twenty eight receptions eighteen hundred yards eight touchdowns. He
- 17:47Speaker 1: was the league leader in receptions and yards that year.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Last season he only played ten games, still had over
- 17:53Speaker 1: a thousand yards with five touchdowns, only he didn't make
- 17:55Speaker 1: the Pro Bowl. And this year, you know, he's currently
- 17:59Speaker 1: second in the end NFL in receiving yards with twelve
- 18:01Speaker 1: hundred and forty three, tenth in receptions with eighty two,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and he surpassed seven thousand career receiving yards and week
- 18:07Speaker 1: fourteen Verstlanta, becoming the first player in NFL history with
- 18:10Speaker 1: seven thousand receiving yards in his first five NFL seasons.
- 18:16Speaker 4: So Minnesota just just puts out great receivers. Apparently he
- 18:20Speaker 4: got a couple a guy named Carter Like, okay, now
- 18:24Speaker 4: this guy twentydle down Vikings goodness.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Twenty four reception of twenty plus yards this season. I
- 18:29Speaker 1: mean he keep him in front. He is dynamic, say
- 18:33Speaker 1: what you want, I mean he he is as good
- 18:34Speaker 1: as advertised. Spoon Breke Woland, Kobe Julian love. Everybody's gonna
- 18:40Speaker 1: have to do their party, going to do their part
- 18:42Speaker 1: up front to make sure that Sam Darnold doesn't have
- 18:44Speaker 1: all day to throw. You throw in Addison fifty one receptions,
- 18:47Speaker 1: seven hundred and seventy one yards, seven touchdowns. He's a
- 18:50Speaker 1: former first round pick from SC He's had multiple forty
- 18:53Speaker 1: yard catches, so he's the threat. Then he got Hockinson
- 18:55Speaker 1: who's been balling, bringing their tight end coming back Jordan.
- 18:58Speaker 4: He don't get no pit Love, no Pittler. Then he
- 19:01Speaker 4: transfer from pitt Won to Blittan. The cough went to pitt.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Pitt was where You're right, I shouldn't disrespected pit. He
- 19:07Speaker 1: made his hay at Pitt and actually his numbers were
- 19:09Speaker 1: down at s SE.
- 19:10Speaker 3: That was the last place he was at.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, you know this, this is a new era
- 19:13Speaker 4: when it comes to football players. They're gonna be like
- 19:16Speaker 4: three different schools from Pitt to SCE to Oklahoma.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I know, I'm waiting for the Sunday at Football in
- 19:21Speaker 1: Show to be like Michael Bumpus, Washington State, Sack State.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Yeah, no, all the different ones. Yeah, it's crazy. Deeper
- 19:29Speaker 4: than the deepest is a rule for dbs, Yes, it is.
- 19:32Speaker 4: This is gonna have to be real serious. Is this
- 19:34Speaker 4: deeper than the deepest? Let's not forget t J. Hawkinson.
- 19:38Speaker 4: He returned after a week nine the Vikings tight end.
- 19:40Speaker 4: He's combined for forty nine receptions, tied for six months
- 19:44Speaker 4: in NFL and five and six to three yards, fourth
- 19:47Speaker 4: amongst teams that have targeted their tight ends at least
- 19:50Speaker 4: fifty times in that span. The Vikings lead the league
- 19:52Speaker 4: in yards per catch eleven point five. The group also
- 19:56Speaker 4: total thirty five receiving first downs tal a excuse me,
- 20:00Speaker 4: trailing only Kansas City's thirty seven first downs by tight end.
- 20:04Speaker 3: When it comes to tight ends.
- 20:05Speaker 4: There's like the old dudes who are balling, and then
- 20:08Speaker 4: there's Hockinson and Bowers and they're all the young guys.
- 20:12Speaker 4: He's leading the charge for that new school. Big ups
- 20:14Speaker 4: of Bowers too. He's having himself a good year.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Yeah, Bowers can play.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but again, you talked about deeper than the deepest.
- 20:19Speaker 1: You're gonna have to do it because they are as
- 20:21Speaker 1: good as advertising.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Craigt me if I'm wrong, Bump, I don't think it's
- 20:24Speaker 3: really close.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Is there any other unit the Seahawks have faced like
- 20:27Speaker 1: this this season, no top to bottom.
- 20:29Speaker 3: No one's touching it. That's it. I mean, nah, nont
- 20:33Speaker 3: wan't touch healthy healthy.
- 20:35Speaker 4: I tried to give it to the Lions, but Laporta
- 20:38Speaker 4: hasn't been the same this year, and all they have
- 20:40Speaker 4: is they got around there.
- 20:43Speaker 3: You got Whims as well, but it's just different here.
- 20:45Speaker 3: It's different. What about our receivers.
- 20:47Speaker 4: All right, our guys JSN N d K versus your
- 20:52Speaker 4: guy Byron Murphy, Man you dub I see you all right,
- 20:54Speaker 4: Bier Murphy.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Uh second year of JASN. He's just he's balling this year.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Man seven straight weeks where he leads the team in
- 21:02Speaker 4: receiving Jason he leads a team in receptions yards and
- 21:06Speaker 4: receiving touchdowns. He also has He's also six yards away
- 21:09Speaker 4: from his first one thousands. Come on now, JSM there
- 21:13Speaker 4: has to be in a sit of in his contract
- 21:15Speaker 4: somewhere for that.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Hope you get it. We are going to get it.
- 21:17Speaker 4: And I became the tenth player franchise history to reach
- 21:20Speaker 4: that mark one thousand yards.
- 21:22Speaker 3: He will be.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Jayson is six in the NFL when it comes to
- 21:24Speaker 4: receiving yards with nine hundred and ninety four. He's also
- 21:27Speaker 4: seventh in receptions with eighty five getting his graces this season,
- 21:31Speaker 4: He's already set single season records for receiving yards, receptions, touchdowns.
- 21:38Speaker 4: He's just getting better. JSN the most reliable receiver we
- 21:42Speaker 4: have right now.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean in proofs of the put in consistency
- 21:46Speaker 1: he's doing every single week and we've now come to
- 21:49Speaker 1: expect it. So while we've come to expect that, I
- 21:51Speaker 1: also want to get back to what we've come to
- 21:53Speaker 1: expect out of de Kaalen DK.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Come on, DK, we need a baby.
- 21:57Speaker 1: He's averaging fourteen yards per reception, with just eighth in
- 21:59Speaker 1: the NFL with a minimum of fifty catches. He's had
- 22:01Speaker 1: a ten yard reception in every game. Despite his decreased
- 22:05Speaker 1: production since knee injury, fifty seven receptions, eight hundred and
- 22:08Speaker 1: forty yards, three touchdowns, I still think he has a
- 22:10Speaker 1: chance to get one thousand. Defensively, we talked about the
- 22:13Speaker 1: vikings m HM against the passing off great numbers, but
- 22:16Speaker 1: they take the ball away. Lead the NFL interceptions, passes defended,
- 22:19Speaker 1: second and takeaways and a lot of it.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Brian Murphy, former UT product. He leads a team with
- 22:25Speaker 1: six interception on the season, which is also second in
- 22:27Speaker 1: the NFL. He's got sixty one tackle, six picks, twelve
- 22:29Speaker 1: passes defended, five TFLs. You mentioned Shaq Griffin, Shack Love Shack.
- 22:34Speaker 1: He was always great to us when he was here.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And then your thirteen year vet Harrison Smith, So the
- 22:38Speaker 1: Seahawks have a chance to get after him.
- 22:39Speaker 3: We know they can't. HM.
- 22:41Speaker 1: It's about protecting Geno Smith and hope we can get
- 22:43Speaker 1: the ball out there. But if the Seahawks are gonna win,
- 22:45Speaker 1: we're gonna need to see production out of JSN and DK.
- 22:47Speaker 3: For sure. They are nice combo man.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Eight hundred and forty yards for DK, then it's a
- 22:52Speaker 4: down year for him, and I anticipate he's gonna get
- 22:55Speaker 4: to one thousand yards. DK, you go do your thing,
- 22:57Speaker 4: but it's gonna be a challenge. You got Biyer Murphy,
- 22:59Speaker 4: like you mentioned that they're going to begins, got Harrison,
- 23:01Speaker 4: the Og, you got Griffin, he got the other og
- 23:03Speaker 4: and Gilmour.
- 23:04Speaker 3: So come on, have your best day. DK, go ahead,
- 23:06Speaker 3: leave the charge.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Need it and we'll finish here. Bump the last ones
- 23:10Speaker 1: running back. Seahawks got to run the ball really, Hoping
- 23:13Speaker 1: Ken Walker is back this week, we're getting closer.
- 23:15Speaker 3: And more opposition.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Weeks now, he's been out, Yes, he's been out since
- 23:18Speaker 1: the Jets game, so hopefully Ken will be back. Last
- 23:21Speaker 1: week sharbon name he only had fifty four yards, but
- 23:24Speaker 1: he also only had eight carries, had twenty four yard touchdown,
- 23:26Speaker 1: was still averaging six point eight yards of carry. So again,
- 23:29Speaker 1: we're really hoping that Ken Walker is back in the
- 23:32Speaker 1: lineup because we know how dynamic he is and they're
- 23:35Speaker 1: gonna need it because the Vikings defense, they're number two
- 23:37Speaker 1: in rush defense. They are getting after people bump. They
- 23:39Speaker 1: got two stud linebackers, Greenard van Ginkle. Their numbers are
- 23:44Speaker 1: all over the place. Man, they spent time away. They're
- 23:46Speaker 1: both free agents. I don't think anyone in Minnesota will
- 23:49Speaker 1: tell you the straight face, and they thought they're gonna
- 23:51Speaker 1: get this type of production from both of them. Heck,
- 23:53Speaker 1: they're combined for twenty sacks. I mean you look at
- 23:55Speaker 1: through fifteen weeks, Van Ginkle fifteen TFLs, tiph for six sacks,
- 23:59Speaker 1: he has nine ty for ninth defensive tds, he has
- 24:02Speaker 1: two touchdown and then green Art typer six and TFLs
- 24:07Speaker 1: eleven sacks. Fifth QB pressures third. Both of them together
- 24:11Speaker 1: bump are When I first put on the film defensively,
- 24:15Speaker 1: I looked at those two I was like, oh, damn,
- 24:16Speaker 1: those guys are different.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Yeah, those dudes, their reaction time, their recognition is just different.
- 24:21Speaker 4: And Brian Flores uses them well in their blitz game.
- 24:24Speaker 4: They blitz the most out of any team in the NFL.
- 24:26Speaker 4: So they are going to be getting downhill this offensive line.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Last week, the challenge was with the d line.
- 24:32Speaker 4: When it comes to Green Bay Packers, it's still going
- 24:33Speaker 4: to be a challenge obviously because the Vikings are what
- 24:36Speaker 4: top five when it comes to sacks. Defensive line does
- 24:38Speaker 4: a great job, but this linebacker group is something special.
- 24:41Speaker 3: They really play well off each other. Yeah.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So but here's the one positive, everybody, here's the one positive.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Their number two in the league when it comes to
- 24:49Speaker 1: rush defense are only allowing eighty nine yards per game.
- 24:52Speaker 1: But the last three weeks now haven't been so good
- 24:55Speaker 1: on the ground. Arizona got one hundred and fifty four
- 24:57Speaker 1: on am on thirty one carries. Atlanta got one hundred
- 25:00Speaker 1: fifty eight on thirty two carries. Chicago got one hundred
- 25:03Speaker 1: and thirteen on twenty nine carries. So right now they're
- 25:05Speaker 1: giving up one hundred and forty one yards per game
- 25:07Speaker 1: their last three.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Yep, so there is hope.
- 25:09Speaker 1: We know they got all the dudes on that defense,
- 25:11Speaker 1: but right now a couple teams have found something, some
- 25:14Speaker 1: cracks in the armor. So hopefully coach Grubb Gino Smith,
- 25:18Speaker 1: the rest of the offense, the offensive line can get
- 25:20Speaker 1: back there healthy, move some people, and get the running
- 25:22Speaker 1: back back up because we need it.
- 25:23Speaker 3: The Seahawks need it.
- 25:24Speaker 1: They need this game, and let's tell you how you
- 25:26Speaker 1: get The Seahawks are gonna win that game.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Path to victory. After forty five waits for the snack
- 25:32Speaker 3: PACKA Vicky puts it down. That kick is away.
- 25:35Speaker 1: If that kick is gone, good, say off Quinn fifth gun.
- 25:40Speaker 3: It's a pass to victory.
- 25:41Speaker 4: On Hawk Talk, playoff mo baby, it's already been activated
- 25:47Speaker 4: and I got to keep it rolling.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:48Speaker 4: You felt to last week against the Green Bay Packers.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Now you feel it here. You still control your own destiny.
- 25:54Speaker 4: If you lose this one, you're gonna start need some help.
- 25:57Speaker 4: So let's not lose it. Man the Viking team, they're
- 25:59Speaker 4: a good ball to him on defense. We read all
- 26:01Speaker 4: the stats, right, good against the run. But like you mentioned,
- 26:03Speaker 4: last three weeks, got what a buck fifty eight, a
- 26:05Speaker 4: buck fifty seven, the buck thirteen. They will give it
- 26:08Speaker 4: up if you get the run going. So let's hope
- 26:10Speaker 4: that our running backs are healthy and ready to go.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Get after Sam Donald. He's been sacked a lot this
- 26:16Speaker 4: year and he doesn't want to run. I watched the film.
- 26:19Speaker 4: He wants to stay in the pocket. Like I'm sure
- 26:22Speaker 4: the Vikings fans are screaming at him to run the football.
- 26:25Speaker 3: He don't want to do it.
- 26:26Speaker 4: So it's a combination of him being patient looking down
- 26:28Speaker 4: the field for his weapons, and it's being stubborn with
- 26:30Speaker 4: not running the football is why he has sacks. If
- 26:33Speaker 4: he wants to stay in that pocket, big cat boy
- 26:35Speaker 4: a dt all, y'all get after him.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Absolutely need it, Absolutely need it. He can't be looking
- 26:41Speaker 1: like the Sam Donald of twenty twenty four, I like
- 26:43Speaker 1: some previous versions of him. And then you know they
- 26:47Speaker 1: got some really good receivers Jesse Jefferson, Jordanaison, Todd Hawkson.
- 26:49Speaker 1: You're not going to completely shut him down, but you
- 26:51Speaker 1: gotta keep in front. Limit the exposive players. They can't
- 26:54Speaker 1: be going off. I don't want to see Justin Jefferson
- 26:56Speaker 1: dancing all over the all over the end zone, all
- 26:58Speaker 1: up on the screen. I don't want to see any
- 26:59Speaker 1: of that. And to stop that, you gotta keep them
- 27:01Speaker 1: in front. And then you got to, you know, stop
- 27:03Speaker 1: the run from the jump. The last two games it
- 27:05Speaker 1: has been a little bit of slow. They figured it
- 27:07Speaker 1: out against the Packers, but unfortunately you're down fourteen to
- 27:09Speaker 1: nothing and it's a good team.
- 27:10Speaker 3: It's hard to come back that way.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So defensively, definitely can't have his slows starting that aspect
- 27:16Speaker 1: at all.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Yeah, no slow starts. And then, as always, protect your quarterback.
- 27:21Speaker 4: He will sack seven times last week seven times.
- 27:25Speaker 3: So if you.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Want to win this ball game, yeah, you have to
- 27:30Speaker 4: attack through the air. You gotta attack on the ground.
- 27:32Speaker 4: You gotta be the troops on the ground, the air
- 27:34Speaker 4: force in the air. You got to bring all the
- 27:36Speaker 4: branches of the Seahawks and military together and go get
- 27:40Speaker 4: this thing. Don take care of the football, especially in
- 27:43Speaker 4: the red zone. I'm tired of seeing it and I
- 27:45Speaker 4: don't want to see it again. Take care to rock. Absolutely.
- 27:48Speaker 1: If you do all those things, you will come out victorious.
- 27:50Speaker 1: And let's make sure this is not the last game
- 27:52Speaker 1: at Loominfield to see how to take care of business
- 27:54Speaker 1: with the next three. They will win the division, they'll
- 27:56Speaker 1: have another home playoff game it Loominfield. Has been a
- 27:59Speaker 1: long time since that's happen, so let's keep that going
