- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 85! I can't believe we're this far. Lucas: I know, it's flown by. Last time we covered asking for directions with 'Wapi...?' Today we're going to build on that. Luna: Oh, good. I remember 'Wapi hospitali?' but then I'd be stuck. Luna: Yeah, it's true. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Swahili, buying a coffee helps us keep going. Lucas: Just buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Now, let's get into it. Luna: So how do I say 'turn right'? Lucas: Pindia kulia. Say it with me: Pindia kulia. Luna: Pindia kulia. Lucas: Perfect. And 'turn left' is pindia kushoto. Pindia kushoto. Luna: Pindia kushoto. Okay. And 'go straight' is something we had before, right? Lucas: Yes! Nenda moja kwa moja. Nenda moja kwa moja. Luna: Nenda moja kwa moja. So if I'm lost, I can say 'Nenda wapi?' and someone might say 'Pindia kulia.' Lucas: Exactly. And they might point and say 'hapa' or 'huko'. Hapa means 'here', huko means 'there'. Luna: Hapa, huko. Like 'simama hapa'? Lucas: Right, 'stand here'. Let's practice: Imagine you're at a junction. I'll give directions, you repeat. Pindia kulia. Luna: Pindia kulia. Lucas: Now nenda moja kwa moja. Luna: Nenda moja kwa moja. Lucas: Then pindia kushoto. Luna: Pindia kushoto. And I'm there! Lucas: You got it. Let's try a mini dialogue: I'll ask 'Wapi duka?' and you direct me using our new phrases. Luna: Okay. Pindia kulia, then nenda moja kwa moja, duka iko hapa. Lucas: Ah, asante! Perfect. Hapa means here, so 'the shop is here'. Great job. Luna: So if someone says 'huko', that's over there? Lucas: Yes. 'Huko' is a bit farther. Let's do one more: Pindia kushoto, then nenda moja kwa moja, duka iko huko. Luna: Pindia kushoto, nenda moja kwa moja, duka iko huko. Lucas: Excellent. Now you can navigate a bit in Swahili. Let's recap all five phrases: Pindia kulia, pindia kushoto, nenda moja kwa moja, hapa, huko. Luna: Pindia kulia, pindia kushoto, nenda moja kwa moja, hapa, huko. Got it. Lucas: That's episode 85. Practice these and next time we'll add more. Kwaheri! Luna: Kwaheri! See you next time.
