- 0:01It has been famously stated that we cannot understand the system
- 0:05within which we are acting until we can shift our View to a
- 0:10standpoint outside that frame. As long as we are immersed,
- 0:15within any particular system or standpoint.
- 0:19We are locked into the Viewpoint and understanding embedded
- 0:23within that frame and our ability to perceive and fully
- 0:28appreciate the forces acting upon us is both severely limited
- 0:34and extremely biased. To become the Observer of the
- 0:39external nature. Therefore, is a prerequisite for
- 0:43attaining. Both self-knowledge and
- 0:46self-mastery. Sankhya philosophy understood
- 0:51these limitations and therefore set forth a method of
- 0:54understanding that separated the witness Consciousness, purusha
- 0:59from the active nature, proximity.
- 1:03As we learn how to shift the standpoint to that of the
- 1:06witness free and separate from the actions of the nature.
- 1:11We can begin to see the gears turning and the forces moving in
- 1:15acting and interacting to create. we know of, as our
- 1:20external being At a certain point, we begin to gain the
- 1:25ability to actually untangle the convoluted and intertwine
- 1:31threads of impulsion and action within us.
- 1:35And at that point, we can see and eventually leverage this
- 1:39knowledge to act upon the parts and aspects of the outer nature.
- 1:47Dr. Dalal notes, quote real self knowledge begins, when a
- 1:51separation takes place between purusa and prakruti between the
- 1:56self and its outer nature. Then we perceive as SRI
- 2:00aurobindo States. The extraordinary complexity of
- 2:04our own being the stimulating but also embarrassing
- 2:08multiplicity of our personality. The rich endless confusion of
- 2:13nature. Dr. Dalal continues.
- 2:19We also perceive that the numerous personalities which are
- 2:22mixed up on the surface are separate and distinct when
- 2:26viewed from within each personality, represents a part
- 2:31of the being, which has its own complex, individuality and
- 2:35different nature. Its own demands agreeing neither
- 2:39with itself, nor with the others, Speaking of the
- 2:44perfectly normal to visibility of the different parts of the
- 2:47being SRI aurobindo States. In the outer surface nature,
- 2:53mind psychic, vital physical are all jumbled together and it
- 3:00needs a strong power of introspection and self-analysis
- 3:05close observation, and disentanglement of the threads
- 3:09of thought feeling, and impulse to find out the composition of
- 3:13our nature and the relation and interaction of these parts upon
- 3:18each other. But when one goes inside, we
- 3:22find the sources of all this surface action and they're the
- 3:27parts of our being are quite separate and clearly distinct
- 3:31from each other. We feel them indeed as different
- 3:35beings in us and just as two people in a joint action can do,
- 3:41they too are seen to observe criticized help or oppose and
- 3:47restrain each other. It is as if we were a group
- 3:50being each member of the group with its separate place and
- 3:54function and all directed by a central being who is sometimes
- 3:59in front above the others, Behind the scenes.
