Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We are out of the gates on sport and state.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's Hutton Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet. Glad you're
- 0:05Speaker 1: with us this morning. Chad, good to see you. Good
- 0:08Speaker 1: to see you, Hutton.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Excited to bang some hats here on this Thursday. We're
- 0:11Speaker 2: going to do that.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We've got David Pollitt coming up a little bit later
- 0:14Speaker 1: in today's program, plus one big thing on every NFL game,
- 0:18Speaker 1: details on why the Sunday night game is so bad.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm bringing some behind-the-scenes info on that, on why the
- 0:25Speaker 1: game was not flexed. Chad, we will not see the
- 0:27Speaker 1: Titans games flexed. Even though Robert Sala and Cam Ward
- 0:32Speaker 1: and practically anyone else over there, they want everyone to
- 0:36Speaker 1: believe that there is progress with their process. They are
- 0:39Speaker 1: all about the narrative. And man, are they spewing literally anything,
- 0:43Speaker 1: hoping it sticks.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And they flex a game to Dubai because that's the
- 0:48Speaker 2: only option right now for the NFL is to remove
- 0:51Speaker 2: this game from the United States, punish the Tennessee Titans
- 0:54Speaker 2: and their fans. Well, I don't know if it's punishing
- 0:56Speaker 2: the fans, honestly, to not have to watch this team,
- 0:58Speaker 2: but make them play at 5 a.m. in the Middle
- 1:01Speaker 2: East somewhere. The NFL wants to play every week, everywhere,
- 1:05Speaker 2: and eventually be completely international, so why not flex the
- 1:07Speaker 2: Titans out of this country, not into a primetime slot
- 1:11Speaker 2: for fans in the United States to watch this team. Hutton,
- 1:15Speaker 2: this is a group that just continues to live in
- 1:17Speaker 2: their own little fantasy land. If someone disagrees with them,
- 1:21Speaker 2: they kick them out of the media pool. They want
- 1:25Speaker 2: to correct people on different things that are happening. It
- 1:29Speaker 2: is an insulated bunch that's super scared of getting fired
- 1:34Speaker 2: because of how bad things are going. So they're always,
- 1:37Speaker 2: they got one eye on the side door, making sure
- 1:40Speaker 2: that Miss Amy's not coming through to get rid of
- 1:43Speaker 2: them and replace them with someone else. And because of that,
- 1:47Speaker 2: and because they just, I don't know if they think
- 1:50Speaker 2: everybody that listens to them is stupid or if they
- 1:54Speaker 2: truly believe the fantasy world they've built for themselves. But
- 1:58Speaker 2: this is a group that is completely detached from reality.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I think we had two examples of this yesterday with
- 2:05Speaker 2: both head coach Robert Sala and with starting quarterback Cam Ward.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Starting with Robert Sala, I don't need to hear from
- 2:12Speaker 2: Robert Sala about a rookie who's going to be a
- 2:15Speaker 2: legend of the organization given his current contribution to this organization.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But here's what he had to say about Keldrick Falk.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Caldrick Falk is going to be a, I'll stamp that one,
- 2:28Speaker 3: he's going to be a.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Hell of a football player.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Especially as he gets another off-season of an NFL program,
- 2:34Speaker 3: gets bigger, gets stronger, understands football and gets more reps.
- 2:39Speaker 3: He's going to be one of the, I would argue,
- 2:43Speaker 3: when his career is said and done, he's going to
- 2:45Speaker 3: be recognized as one of the Titans' greats.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Put him up there with Javon Kers, Chad. I mean,
- 2:49Speaker 2: the ring of honor, Hutton, is beckoning for Keldrick Falk
- 2:52Speaker 2: based on this.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Why is it so difficult to expect players to contribute
- 2:56Speaker 1: as a rookie? I mean, how many people, by show
- 3:00Speaker 1: of hands, forgot that Keldrick Falk was a first-round pick?
- 3:03Speaker 2: You know? Like, you draft him in the first round
- 3:06Speaker 2: to contribute this year. Why else? They keep saying he's
- 3:10Speaker 2: the youngest player in the league. He's not.
- 3:12Speaker 1: He's the third youngest on his team. That's what's so funny.
- 3:18Speaker 1: They're spewing the youngest player in the league. He's not
- 3:21Speaker 1: even the youngest on his team, Chad. You've got two
- 3:25Speaker 1: others that are younger. Anthony Hill and Carnell Tate, both
- 3:30Speaker 1: younger than Keldrick Falk. But yet he's just so young
- 3:34Speaker 1: that he's going to contribute next year, not this year.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And both doing so much more than Keldrick Falk, by
- 3:39Speaker 2: the way. A first-round draft pick also. And I know
- 3:42Speaker 2: Carnell Tate is as well, but Hill doing far more.
- 3:46Speaker 2: It's crazy. And Robert Sala, though, has even, in his
- 3:50Speaker 2: limited time in reality, has acknowledged that Cam Ward needs
- 3:54Speaker 2: to work on his footwork. He did say that he
- 3:56Speaker 2: needs to improve, that he continues to fall back into
- 3:58Speaker 2: bad footwork habits. But Cam Ward, when asked about his footwork,
- 4:03Speaker 2: hey guys, no problem. Nothing to see here. Here's Cam Ward.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I think I'm very good at the footwork right now.
- 4:10Speaker 4: I've grown in that aspect from Not only last year,
- 4:14Speaker 4: but previous years. But that's something that's going to continue
- 4:19Speaker 4: to get better throughout my career. Something that's not going
- 4:21Speaker 4: to change overnight. Something that's never going to be perfected
- 4:25Speaker 4: in the day because stuff happens.
- 4:27Speaker 2: In the game that you can't predict in practice.
- 4:29Speaker 4: It's more just continuing to stay balanced and staying.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Flat through my throws.
- 4:33Speaker 4: As I do that, continue to build, connect to my
- 4:36Speaker 4: receivers and those.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Guys make plays. How was your footwork on the Bellinger play?
- 4:41Speaker 4: What'd you say?
- 4:41Speaker 2: How was your footwork on the Bellinger throw? You want
- 4:43Speaker 2: to miss him?
- 4:44Speaker 3: I think it's pretty good.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I think I just got happy on the throw. I
- 4:48Speaker 4: think I could have just threw it with more air
- 4:49Speaker 4: instead of trying to drive it to him. And that's
- 4:52Speaker 4: when I got to hit him more for sure.
- 4:53Speaker 5: So how often when you turn on the tape and
- 4:55Speaker 5: you see a throw that you don't like, how often
- 4:58Speaker 5: do you attribute that to the footwork versus something else?
- 5:01Speaker 4: It just depends. On that throw that he referenced, it's
- 5:05Speaker 4: really more of just trying to get it to him
- 5:07Speaker 4: so fast that he's just laying.
- 5:08Speaker 2: One up for him for a touchdown. What about the interceptions?
- 5:11Speaker 4: In the session, just a bad ball. Footwork's fine, just
- 5:14Speaker 4: got to throw it in front of Elliott. But then
- 5:16Speaker 4: just other players just continue to, you know, hit my
- 5:19Speaker 4: back foot, get one hitch or two hitches, depending on
- 5:21Speaker 4: the cost of business, getting the ball in the right area.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I mean, what? There is a huge disconnect there. Massive.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Well, the coach on Sunday is talking about how he
- 5:33Speaker 1: needs to improve his footwork and how it's difficult to
- 5:37Speaker 1: train yourself to go away from bad habits. And then
- 5:40Speaker 1: today or yesterday, you've got Cam Ward saying, oh, my
- 5:43Speaker 1: foot works pretty good.
- 5:44Speaker 2: What?
- 5:48Speaker 1: Where is the leadership in any of that, Chad? There's
- 5:52Speaker 1: nothing there.
- 5:54Speaker 2: You're right. They think we're all dumb.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And we're just spinning like a top trying to figure
- 5:59Speaker 1: out what this guy is actually trying to say there.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Because he's saying absolutely nothing.
- 6:03Speaker 6: He's wrong.
- 6:06Speaker 2: It should be a time of growth for the Titans, right?
- 6:09Speaker 2: You've hinted at this a lot. This is a big
- 6:12Speaker 2: business year for this team in terms of the stadium.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I passed it the other day and got to see
- 6:18Speaker 2: it from the north side of town for the first time.
- 6:20Speaker 2: It's beautiful. This beautiful new building. I see where Nashville's
- 6:25Speaker 2: one of seven finalists for five different men's Final Fours
- 6:29Speaker 2: coming up from 2032 at some point. They're going to
- 6:33Speaker 2: be getting all these big events going. The Titans are
- 6:35Speaker 2: going to be the main tenant of that building. This
- 6:38Speaker 2: should be a time to grow your fan base, to
- 6:41Speaker 2: grow your interest in the city. And I see things
- 6:45Speaker 2: like this where the head coach and the quarterback either
- 6:48Speaker 2: are dumb or are treating every Titans fan like they're dumb.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Either one is not good, by the way. Both help
- 6:55Speaker 2: in killing a fan base. And then all these other
- 6:58Speaker 2: things that are going on around the team and how
- 6:59Speaker 2: bad they are. And they've created these two different groups
- 7:03Speaker 2: of anybody who pays attention to the Titans. One group
- 7:06Speaker 2: is going to defend everything they do because they've got
- 7:09Speaker 2: some sort of Titans flame in their Twitter avatar. Right.
- 7:12Speaker 2: And they're just there to be Titans Twitter and to,
- 7:16Speaker 2: you know, call me retarded or call Jared Stone retarded.
- 7:18Speaker 2: They were given a free jersey. They were given a
- 7:20Speaker 2: free jersey. They're Titan for life. Make fun of how
- 7:22Speaker 2: somebody looks. In their profile, and then they're going to
- 7:25Speaker 2: sit there and defend everything that happens with Cam Ward
- 7:29Speaker 2: or Sala or everyone else. That group is pretty small.
- 7:32Speaker 2: It's loud, but it's pretty small. The other group is
- 7:36Speaker 2: most people in Middle Tennessee or the state of Tennessee
- 7:39Speaker 2: that simply want the Titans to do well. They want
- 7:42Speaker 2: them to be a good football team. They want them
- 7:44Speaker 2: to be competent. They want them to have good ownership.
- 7:47Speaker 2: They want to get excited about a game on a
- 7:49Speaker 2: Sunday because it matters. And it doesn't just matter for
- 7:52Speaker 2: draft position week after week. And that group, Hutton, which
- 7:57Speaker 2: I think now is probably 90% of the fan base,
- 8:00Speaker 2: and then the other 10% is that loud vocal minority
- 8:03Speaker 2: I'm talking about, that group is so apathetic because they
- 8:07Speaker 2: hear BS like this from their head coach and their
- 8:11Speaker 2: quarterback saying, And they think either I'm dumb or they
- 8:15Speaker 2: think I'm dumb or they're dumb. Any of these possible
- 8:19Speaker 2: scenarios are bad for the Tennessee Titans. It's not getting
- 8:23Speaker 2: any better. It's getting worse somehow. And every time we
- 8:26Speaker 2: think this team hits rock bottom, something like this happens
- 8:29Speaker 2: where I just hear a press conference and multiple instances
- 8:32Speaker 2: of they're completely full of it. They are completely full
- 8:36Speaker 2: of it, and they fully expect you, the Titans fan,
- 8:39Speaker 2: to buy what they are selling, and it's pathetic. Well,
- 8:43Speaker 2: they repeat the same lines. They just insert keyword here.
- 8:47Speaker 1: So what Salah said about Keldrick Falk, he said about
- 8:50Speaker 1: Cam Ward, where he said, I'll put my stamp on it.
- 8:53Speaker 1: My job's on the line or whatever. I'll put my
- 8:55Speaker 1: job behind.
- 8:55Speaker 2: It, of course.
- 8:56Speaker 1: He's going to be good. He's going to be great. Well,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I mean, of course they drafted him there. It wasn't Salah.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But he's on board with this. And, I mean, you
- 9:08Speaker 1: can't do anything to Cam Ward. He's got his own
- 9:11Speaker 1: quarterback coach, apparently. I thought Brian Dable was coming in
- 9:14Speaker 1: to make him accurate. And instead, this guy thinks his
- 9:17Speaker 1: footwork is good. It's nonsensical. It's total nonsense. And then
- 9:24Speaker 1: the whole Keldrick Falk thing. I think he's just randomly
- 9:28Speaker 1: saying stuff. You know, he's like, oh, he's going to
- 9:30Speaker 1: be great. Does the coach want to be here whenever
- 9:34Speaker 1: that happens? I thought that this is supposed to be
- 9:37Speaker 1: a first-round pick that comes in and helps you. And instead,
- 9:41Speaker 1: have we even mentioned Keldrick Falk on the show?
- 9:44Speaker 2: I don't think we have.
- 9:47Speaker 1: They have two first-round picks, not just one. And we
- 9:50Speaker 1: have acted like there's only one because this guy doesn't
- 9:53Speaker 1: show up. I mean, we don't, we don't call his name.
- 9:55Speaker 1: We don't hear his name.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I also just the, the arrogance, the audacity. I mean, look,
- 10:04Speaker 2: the Titans don't have the longest, most illustrious, you know,
- 10:07Speaker 2: history in the NFL or anything. So I'm not comparing
- 10:10Speaker 2: them to the green Bay Packers or the Dallas Cowboys or, or,
- 10:14Speaker 2: or any of these teams, or even the Chicago bears
- 10:17Speaker 2: of the past, but, Dude, how dare you? You're 1-6,
- 10:22Speaker 2: and you're going to sit there and tell the Titans, boy,
- 10:24Speaker 2: this guy is going to be a legend of your organization.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Let me tell you, I know about legends, and this guy,
- 10:30Speaker 2: I mean, I don't want to hear that from a
- 10:31Speaker 2: coach who's in his first year and is 1-6 talking about,
- 10:35Speaker 2: this will be one of the legends of this franchise.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I mean, think about any coach that gets anywhere that's
- 10:42Speaker 2: had zero success at his previous stop and is now
- 10:44Speaker 2: having zero success at his first stop trying to tell me,
- 10:48Speaker 2: a season ticket holder, if I am one, that this
- 10:51Speaker 2: guy's going to be a legend of your organization and
- 10:54Speaker 2: he's going to be a Titans legend. Get out of
- 10:56Speaker 2: here with that.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Well, I mean, yeah, as a head coach, he's been awful. And,
- 11:00Speaker 1: you know, the record speaks for itself. And going back
- 11:02Speaker 1: to Keldrick, they traded up for him. They traded up
- 11:05Speaker 1: for him. So you're trading up for a developmental player
- 11:09Speaker 1: that's going to be good next year? Oh, wait until
- 11:12Speaker 1: next year? What are we talking about here? I thought
- 11:16Speaker 1: this was all gas, no brake. The rotation was going
- 11:20Speaker 1: to get after the quarterback.
- 11:21Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought up all gas, no brake, Hutton,
- 11:23Speaker 2: because that's one of the catchphrases they like to use.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You know who someone else would like to use catchphrases? Chad,
- 11:28Speaker 1: they used to like to use that. Well, they've used it.
- 11:31Speaker 1: They used to like to use it. Someone else who
- 11:33Speaker 1: liked to do that was Butch Jones. Here, we go
- 11:36Speaker 1: back to the podium where Buff Butch Jones is back
- 11:40Speaker 1: at it trying to tell someone some very important drops
- 11:44Speaker 1: of wisdom that he can't even remember.
- 11:49Speaker 7: Learning how to finish. In the most extreme times, and
- 11:54Speaker 7: that's what I talked to the team about today, when
- 11:56Speaker 7: you're at, and this is all of humans, it's not
- 11:59Speaker 7: just football players, but In the most adverse moment, in
- 12:01Speaker 7: the most pressure-packed moment, you're always going to revert. I'm
- 12:08Speaker 7: drawing a blank. Do you remember what I said?
- 12:14Speaker 2: No? Your preparation will always fall to the mean. I
- 12:22Speaker 2: think he was trying to think of the word revert, maybe.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I don't know. Will always fall to the mean. Yeah. Look,
- 12:30Speaker 2: this guy increasingly is buff Butch Jones day after day.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Next thing, he's going to be reading excerpts from the
- 12:37Speaker 2: Energy Bus the way Butch Jones would or talking about
- 12:40Speaker 2: champions of life. At 1-7, let's say 1-10, if this
- 12:45Speaker 2: team gets there, Hudden, what is he going to be
- 12:47Speaker 2: referencing at that point with this team? I mean, it's
- 12:50Speaker 2: just one bit of nonsense after the next.
- 12:53Speaker 1: He comes across as just handcuffed. He's no different than
- 12:57Speaker 1: Mike McCoy, Chad. Because I'm going to go back to
- 13:01Speaker 1: what he said yesterday. What just really raised an eyebrow
- 13:05Speaker 1: for me is how he contradicts himself now based on
- 13:08Speaker 1: what he was saying in the preseason, in the offseason.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Because yesterday, the quote was this.
- 13:14Speaker 1: He says, and like I tell those guys, if we
- 13:17Speaker 1: hold up against Philadelphia and Cleveland and we're sitting there
- 13:19Speaker 1: at three and four, what's the narrative?
- 13:21Speaker 2: What's the talk on the offense now?
- 13:23Speaker 1: Or if we don't make that critical mistake in the
- 13:25Speaker 1: fourth quarter or that last drive, and it happened, but
- 13:27Speaker 1: If we make the play and now we're here at
- 13:28Speaker 1: four and three, what's the narrative? And so you just
- 13:30Speaker 1: try to keep the main thing the main thing with
- 13:32Speaker 1: this group. The key word there is narrative. Because let's
- 13:35Speaker 1: go back to August 17th when he joined the Rich
- 13:37Speaker 1: Eisen Show. And he said the one thing that he
- 13:39Speaker 1: learned from his time in New York was he didn't
- 13:42Speaker 1: want to care about the narrative and started to shape
- 13:44Speaker 1: it and care what people think.
- 13:48Speaker 8: Trying so hard to control narrative, uh, to, to keep
- 13:52Speaker 8: a positive light around the New York jets. It was,
- 13:54Speaker 8: it meant well, you know, I was, I was trying
- 13:57Speaker 8: to try my best to, to, to work with the
- 14:00Speaker 8: people around the building, uh, outside the building to, to
- 14:03Speaker 8: make sure that the messaging around the team wasn't a,
- 14:06Speaker 8: a way that, uh, allowed us to go operate when
- 14:08Speaker 8: in reality, none of that shit matters. Uh, when you win,
- 14:11Speaker 8: you're a winner. When you lose, you're a loser. And then,
- 14:13Speaker 8: and the narrative will be whatever that result is. And, uh,
- 14:17Speaker 8: And so focusing on our process, focusing on our players,
- 14:20Speaker 8: focusing on us is the only thing that matters. And
- 14:23Speaker 8: if you want the narrative to change, you've got to
- 14:25Speaker 8: win football.
- 14:26Speaker 1: See, that's the Robert Sala I liked. And now he's
- 14:29Speaker 1: talking about, well, what if we did this or that?
- 14:32Speaker 1: We'd be four and three and we shape the narrative.
- 14:34Speaker 1: He's doing exactly the same thing. He said with the Jets,
- 14:37Speaker 1: he cared too much about the narrative of the Jets.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Insert the word Titans there now. He's doing exactly the
- 14:42Speaker 1: same thing. And to me, that's the biggest red flag
- 14:45Speaker 1: from yesterday. was the fact that he did exactly what
- 14:48Speaker 1: he said he learned not to do.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah, now he's putting Keldrick Falk in the ring of
- 14:54Speaker 2: honor and stumbling over whatever catchphrase is going to be
- 14:57Speaker 2: next about preparation and overcoming adversity and everything else. You're right,
- 15:03Speaker 2: he is trying to narrative shape whatever's going on with
- 15:06Speaker 2: his team and whatever's happening in his tenure. And going
- 15:09Speaker 2: back to the Cam Ward thing also, I mean, again,
- 15:12Speaker 2: is he this delusional Does he truly believe that his
- 15:16Speaker 2: footwork is okay and that it's not an issue? Or
- 15:19Speaker 2: is he also lying to the media and the fans
- 15:22Speaker 2: that he's actually working on? I mean, at this point,
- 15:24Speaker 2: I'd prefer that he's just lying to the media and
- 15:26Speaker 2: he actually knows it's a problem and is working on it.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I've been watching this Mike Tyson documentary on Netflix. Really good,
- 15:33Speaker 2: by the way, if anybody wants to check it out.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Multi-part thing about his entire life. And I'm just in
- 15:37Speaker 2: the beginning where he's up in the Catskill Mountains training room.
- 15:40Speaker 2: after he got taken out of a youth detention facility
- 15:44Speaker 2: in New York where he grew up in Brownsville, Brooklyn,
- 15:47Speaker 2: and was known to punch old women in the mouth
- 15:50Speaker 2: and steal their purse as a kid. And he got
- 15:53Speaker 2: arrested 38 times before he finally was seen to be
- 15:57Speaker 2: a boxing talent.
- 15:58Speaker 5: 38?
- 15:58Speaker 2: 38 times. This is between age 12 and 13, by
- 16:02Speaker 2: the way, in one year.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 16:04Speaker 2: He got taken off to a youth facility. He started
- 16:07Speaker 2: to train with a guard there who taught the kids boxing,
- 16:11Speaker 2: and they quickly realized this guy's got something. Yeah. He
- 16:14Speaker 2: went to go live with Customato, which I did not know.
- 16:17Speaker 2: From age 13 to 18, he lived in this country
- 16:20Speaker 2: house on a farm in the Catskill Mountains of New
- 16:23Speaker 2: York with five other boxers. They just trained. That lived
- 16:26Speaker 2: with the trainer Customato, famous trainer. Yeah. All right. Mike Tyson,
- 16:31Speaker 2: they talk about this, about brainwashing and how like he
- 16:35Speaker 2: was so defiant about he was going to make it
- 16:39Speaker 2: as a boxer and not be a criminal. And that
- 16:42Speaker 2: custom motto was this guy who was seen as an
- 16:44Speaker 2: authority that he didn't have a male authority figure in
- 16:46Speaker 2: his life before. And he said he was God to me.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Like what he said was the voice of God. Like
- 16:53Speaker 2: if he told me do this, I did it. Boxing
- 16:56Speaker 2: this style, I did it. If you do this, you're
- 16:58Speaker 2: going to be the greatest ever. I believed him. I
- 17:01Speaker 2: suddenly believed I could knock anyone out within one minute
- 17:03Speaker 2: every time I fought and then I was going to
- 17:05Speaker 2: be the greatest of all time because he said it.
- 17:08Speaker 2: That's a long story to get to this point. Who's
- 17:11Speaker 2: the god of Cam Ward? Who is the person in
- 17:14Speaker 2: the building or anybody in his life that can get
- 17:17Speaker 2: through to him and tell him, hey, man, you've got
- 17:20Speaker 2: to be more accountable? And see, you've got to also improve.
- 17:23Speaker 2: It's not your receiver's fault all the time. It's not
- 17:25Speaker 2: the offensive line. It's not that the offensive coordinator, by
- 17:28Speaker 2: the way, who's had a ton of success in the
- 17:30Speaker 2: league doesn't know what he's talking about. Because you've got
- 17:33Speaker 2: Robert Sala, who should, from a football perspective at least,
- 17:37Speaker 2: be his god in that locker room as the head coach.
- 17:40Speaker 2: He's saying the footwork's not good enough, and then Cam
- 17:43Speaker 2: Ward's going out there and saying the footwork's not a
- 17:45Speaker 2: problem at all. Who's the person that can get through
- 17:47Speaker 2: to Cam Ward and hold him accountable? Is anyone ever
- 17:51Speaker 2: critical in his life of his play? That's the sense
- 17:54Speaker 2: I get with his dad going after people online and
- 17:58Speaker 2: everything happening. I think he's got this insulated bubble that
- 18:02Speaker 2: only sucks up to him and talks about how great
- 18:04Speaker 2: he is and tells him how everybody around him's an
- 18:07Speaker 2: idiot and they don't know what they're talking about. that's
- 18:10Speaker 2: the delusion that I sense with Cam Ward.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And the thing that just puzzles me is you have
- 18:16Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator, Brian Dable, who wanted to trade up
- 18:20Speaker 1: and draft him because of the skill set that he
- 18:23Speaker 1: saw from college. PK reported that with the two first-round
- 18:29Speaker 1: picks or whatever it was, two first, two seconds. Point being,
- 18:32Speaker 1: how is there this much disconnect in the fundamentals of
- 18:37Speaker 1: the footwork of this where there's been no improvement. In fact,
- 18:43Speaker 1: he's saying that he's good at it already. And that
- 18:49Speaker 1: tells me he's not taking to coaching, right? I mean,
- 18:52Speaker 1: it's almost as if like, hey, I threw for so
- 18:55Speaker 1: many times that I hold the record in touchdown passes.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I'm good. I'm good to go. Let's rock and roll.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And you've got the coach who wanted to coach him
- 19:03Speaker 1: and the coach who is known for improving the quarterbacks
- 19:07Speaker 1: who come into the league and need help with accuracy.
- 19:11Speaker 1: That puzzles me because we're only in week eight. It's
- 19:15Speaker 1: not like we're in week 15 and all of a
- 19:17Speaker 1: sudden you have this.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Huge timeline here. We're in week eight.
- 19:24Speaker 1: The solid cut from Rich Eisen was August 17th. I mean, again,
- 19:29Speaker 1: totally different approach and mindset with these coaches now where
- 19:33Speaker 1: it is total making sure that Cam's happy And this
- 19:38Speaker 1: guy's just going and doing his thing. And you ask,
- 19:40Speaker 1: does he believe it or is he lying? I think
- 19:41Speaker 1: he believes it. I think he's hearing from the people
- 19:44Speaker 1: that you just described. And anyone else is trying to
- 19:47Speaker 1: change it, he's ignoring it. Or he's going through the motions.
- 19:50Speaker 1: in practice and doing his own thing when the game
- 19:52Speaker 1: rolls around. It's bizarre. But it's not like he just
- 19:57Speaker 1: balls out in practice either. I mean, again, I'll go
- 20:00Speaker 1: back to the camp. I'd never heard of like a
- 20:02Speaker 1: consecutive week of just solid practice from him. I never
- 20:05Speaker 1: saw things stacked. or heard things from him that stacked
- 20:09Speaker 1: on good practice after good practice. It was one step forward,
- 20:11Speaker 1: one step back. You can't move forward with that. And
- 20:16Speaker 1: that's why I'm going back to, oh, let's evaluate him
- 20:18Speaker 1: after the season. What are we going to see over
- 20:20Speaker 1: the final 11 games or whatever it is that's going
- 20:23Speaker 1: to change our mind about what we have seen over
- 20:25Speaker 1: the last year and a half?
- 20:27Speaker 2: I don't think we'll see that. I think it's nearly
- 20:29Speaker 2: impossible to see that improvement now. Look, it sounds crazy too, Hutton,
- 20:34Speaker 2: and this is kind of what you're saying about The
- 20:37Speaker 2: need for improvement, but the unwillingness to improve from Cam Ward.
- 20:41Speaker 2: He says he's good. I mean, what's the motivator to him, right?
- 20:44Speaker 2: It's not all the losing because he's not fixing his
- 20:46Speaker 2: footwork after all the losing. It's not criticism because he's
- 20:50Speaker 2: getting criticized plenty now and it's not affecting him. I've
- 20:55Speaker 2: said this before and I'll say it again. And you
- 20:58Speaker 2: may think that I'm crazy for saying this, but I
- 21:00Speaker 2: don't believe it. When you come at me or at
- 21:03Speaker 2: us about our criticism of Cam Ward and defend him,
- 21:07Speaker 2: and you blame the receivers and the defense and the
- 21:10Speaker 2: offensive line, you are hurting his improvement. Because I believe
- 21:15Speaker 2: Cam Ward is seeing that. I think someone in his
- 21:18Speaker 2: camp is getting him all of the stuff that people
- 21:21Speaker 2: are defending him about. that it's everybody else's fault. And
- 21:25Speaker 2: I think he's listening to that more than whatever would
- 21:28Speaker 2: be inside of any competitor that would drive them to
- 21:31Speaker 2: do better after getting their ass kicked repeatedly on Sundays,
- 21:36Speaker 2: after being criticized the level that he is, after seeing
- 21:39Speaker 2: that chart we put up about most losses in the
- 21:42Speaker 2: first two years of the NFL that he is going
- 21:45Speaker 2: to destroy by the time he's done as the starting
- 21:48Speaker 2: quarterback this year. None of this stuff motivates him to
- 21:51Speaker 2: try to change and improve. Because it's the same stuff
- 21:54Speaker 2: we're talking about that we saw at the very beginning
- 21:56Speaker 2: of his career at the start of last season. So
- 22:00Speaker 2: you are the problem too. If you were still defending
- 22:04Speaker 2: Cam Ward, he's seeing it. He's got people in his
- 22:07Speaker 2: camp that are telling him about it. And he's thinking, oh, look, yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 2: they're right. Everybody else is wrong. The numbers are lying.
- 22:15Speaker 2: The math is wrong. I'm a great quarterback and I'm
- 22:18Speaker 2: just surrounded by a bunch of idiots.
- 22:20Speaker 1: And again, like, He also sees the pro football focus
- 22:23Speaker 1: grade where they said he was good this past week.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Did I just dream up the bad performance where he's
- 22:31Speaker 1: throwing for whatever, 100 plus yards? Again, Chad, it's a regression.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I don't think we've seen vast improvement or an improvement
- 22:41Speaker 1: to the level of what we should see in year two.
- 22:43Speaker 2: We haven't seen that.
- 22:47Speaker 1: They backed into wins last year too, but we at
- 22:50Speaker 1: least saw some better We saw play that allowed people
- 22:55Speaker 1: to have– they were optimistic.
- 23:00Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I'm not anymore.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I don't see the turnaround happening where you mentioned everyone's
- 23:06Speaker 1: optimistic about the stadium. I don't know how you go
- 23:09Speaker 1: into the stadium with him as a starter next year.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I don't think it's possible if you.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Want the fans. No, there's no way. There's no way
- 23:15Speaker 2: that you could sell that to anybody. Chris in the
- 23:18Speaker 2: chat says, why do you guys talk about this crap team? Nobody–
- 23:21Speaker 2: cares about this team. That is increasingly becoming that 80%
- 23:25Speaker 2: to 90% that we talked about. It's exactly what Chris
- 23:28Speaker 2: is laying out right there. It's not anger. It's not
- 23:31Speaker 2: even disappointment. It's apathy. Well, it's I no longer care
- 23:36Speaker 2: because of the way this has gone for years now,
- 23:39Speaker 2: and there's no improvement, and it's a team that lives
- 23:42Speaker 2: in fantasy land.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I will say, though, I think part of it, too,
- 23:45Speaker 1: is fans are now calling out the Titans. We haven't
- 23:48Speaker 1: seen that. where there's been apathy, yes. They've gone through
- 23:53Speaker 1: some lows. But now they're calling out the way that
- 23:56Speaker 1: they do business. And the business is not football. The
- 24:01Speaker 1: football organization needs to get back to being a football organization.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And I think that's what the majority of fans are
- 24:06Speaker 1: saying here. It's like, this is not getting any better.
- 24:08Speaker 1: It doesn't matter who's coaching this team. It doesn't matter
- 24:11Speaker 1: who's the quarterback. It's one move here, one move there.
- 24:16Speaker 1: We're tired of it. There's no consistency. And there's no
- 24:20Speaker 1: consistency in the coaching to the player here. And there
- 24:23Speaker 1: should be. I mean, we have the background of Dable
- 24:30Speaker 1: to say we should be seeing better results than this.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I'm not talking about wins and losses. I'm talking about
- 24:37Speaker 1: the footwork stuff where they have said they've worked on
- 24:39Speaker 1: this with him. And now he's at the podium going
- 24:42Speaker 1: into week eight telling PK and Easton, yeah, I think
- 24:46Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 24:47Speaker 2: I think I'm good. Yeah, it's crazy. It's stupid. It's nonsensical. Narrative.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I think I learned not to shape the narrative. Oh,
- 24:55Speaker 1: what would the narrative be if we were four and three? Well,
- 24:58Speaker 1: you'd be four and three.
- 25:00Speaker 2: You wouldn't be this. Chad, coming up, we talk Pat McAfee. Yeah,
- 25:05Speaker 2: so he overreacted to the video of the Utah students.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I don't know, mocking him or doing an impression of him.
- 25:15Speaker 2: After yesterday's post from McAfee, we now understand where the
- 25:19Speaker 2: overreaction was coming from. We got that coming up.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Plus, around the corner, David Pollak will join us as well.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Coming up in a little under an hour from now
- 25:28Speaker 1: here on Sports State, Hutton and Withrow presented by Hard

- 26:26Speaker 1: So Pat McAfee has come back to explain where he's
- 26:30Speaker 1: coming from on his reaction to, how would you describe this, Chad?
- 26:38Speaker 1: It was a PG version of.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Trash talk.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Well, it was just like, I mean, it was a
- 26:45Speaker 1: very Utah version of like, Hey, what is.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Pat McAfee going to say today? And it was like
- 26:51Speaker 2: a kid doing a Pat McAfee impression. Then it was
- 26:53Speaker 2: another guy saying, you don't have to take your shirt off.
- 26:56Speaker 2: It was pretty lame, honestly, all the way around.
- 26:59Speaker 1: He was upset that the university had reposted it and
- 27:02Speaker 1: really pushed it because he shared some threatening direct messages,
- 27:06Speaker 1: noting that while some came from anonymous trolls, others came
- 27:10Speaker 1: from verifiable individuals, such as a man in Ohio who
- 27:13Speaker 1: described violent scenarios and McAfee's demise in explicit detail. And
- 27:20Speaker 1: it goes on to discuss, like he revealed that the
- 27:22Speaker 1: threat level reached a point where security agencies considered providing
- 27:26Speaker 1: him with a bulletproof vest and And law enforcement, including FBI,
- 27:30Speaker 1: were deployed for his and his crew's safety during major
- 27:34Speaker 1: public broadcasts on college campuses. And then that ties into
- 27:38Speaker 1: going to Utah and why he referenced Charlie Kirk.
- 27:42Speaker 2: So the Charlie Kirk thing is what stuck out to
- 27:45Speaker 2: a lot of people. Me too. He watches that video.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Now he's referencing Charlie Kirk, this horrific thing that happened.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Seemed a little bit extreme. Yes. This explanation really, I think,
- 27:56Speaker 2: explained a lot about what was going on. Pat McAfee,
- 27:59Speaker 2: and it's a long, lengthy, we've reposted it, a long, lengthy,
- 28:04Speaker 2: detailed what the month of October has been like for him.
- 28:07Speaker 2: But it also goes back to September of a year
- 28:10Speaker 2: ago in Knoxville, Tennessee. And that is the week following
- 28:15Speaker 2: the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk was assassinated on
- 28:19Speaker 2: September 10th, I believe, and September 13th was college game day,
- 28:24Speaker 2: Tennessee hosting Georgia. McAfee in this post post the opening
- 28:28Speaker 2: video where he's wearing a red white and blue jacket
- 28:31Speaker 2: that day after Kirk was assassinated and he gives a
- 28:34Speaker 2: very good impassioned thing about Sports bring people together. Sports unite.
- 28:40Speaker 2: And he said, we are a divided country, but today
- 28:42Speaker 2: there are 102,000 fans that are behind one thing, and
- 28:46Speaker 2: that is kicking Georgia's ass. And all the Tennessee fans
- 28:50Speaker 2: go crazy at that point. And he said this is
- 28:52Speaker 2: why he loves sports. I believe him, by the way.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I do think that Pat McAfee, who gets a lot
- 28:58Speaker 2: of heat and a lot of it is unjustified, some
- 29:01Speaker 2: of it may be, but most of it's unjustified. He's
- 29:04Speaker 2: a positive guy. He's usually over the top, positive, energetic,
- 29:09Speaker 2: excited about whatever's going on. He's not someone that I
- 29:12Speaker 2: would say is overly negative all the time about things.
- 29:15Speaker 2: He truly loves sports. He truly loves entertainment. He loves
- 29:19Speaker 2: all those things. He does believe that it's something that
- 29:22Speaker 2: brings people together. He brings up an interesting point, and
- 29:25Speaker 2: he says this at the start of his manifesto. He says,
- 29:30Speaker 2: I don't know if Carrie from Derry is real or not,
- 29:33Speaker 2: but the picture on the left is from a very
- 29:36Speaker 2: real man in Ohio. Yeah. And he goes and shows
- 29:39Speaker 2: some of the threats that he got. He says, you know,
- 29:43Speaker 2: don't read them. People say they're everywhere. And he says,
- 29:46Speaker 2: and well, they still exist, though, right? The threats and
- 29:49Speaker 2: whoever's behind those accounts that does it. I think it's
- 29:53Speaker 2: very easy just to dismiss it and say, oh, it's
- 29:56Speaker 2: just online trolling. You know, oh, they're just doing this because, again,
- 30:01Speaker 2: anybody who's ever been in sports media long enough has
- 30:03Speaker 2: probably gotten something really weird from someone or really crazy
- 30:08Speaker 2: at some point or another. Not to the level of
- 30:09Speaker 2: a Pat McAfee or a Clay Travis, who we'll get
- 30:12Speaker 2: to here momentarily. But you've gotten something weird, and I
- 30:16Speaker 2: think it's easy for everyone else on the outside to say, oh,
- 30:19Speaker 2: just don't look at your mentions. And he says, like,
- 30:22Speaker 2: I've stopped looking at mentions and messages because And he said,
- 30:25Speaker 2: I bet if I opened it back up, I'd see
- 30:27Speaker 2: even more things like this of people wishing me dead
- 30:30Speaker 2: or people wishing harm to my family at some point.
- 30:33Speaker 2: And that does take a psychological toll on someone when
- 30:37Speaker 2: you're getting this repeatedly. Having law enforcement and the FBI
- 30:40Speaker 2: try to put a bulletproof vest on you would do that. Yes.
- 30:43Speaker 2: And he said having FBI snipers around the set in
- 30:46Speaker 2: Knoxville on that September Saturday and everything else.
- 30:50Speaker 1: That's verified the threat.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 1: You know, that's, that's more than just someone sliding into
- 30:55Speaker 1: DMs talking trash.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Well, and he says like, it wasn't about, uh, I
- 30:58Speaker 2: don't think it was a Tennessee fan base specific threat
- 31:01Speaker 2: or anything. It was because it was in lieu of
- 31:03Speaker 2: the Charlie Kirk situation. Some of the threats he had
- 31:05Speaker 2: been receiving, but he even credited the Tennessee students that
- 31:08Speaker 2: were there that day for feeding his soul in a
- 31:11Speaker 2: way that they don't even realize that he helped. They
- 31:13Speaker 2: helped with how positive the experience was on the set
- 31:16Speaker 2: that day and positive things that people were saying to him. Um,
- 31:20Speaker 2: Clay Travis knows a thing or two about this, right?
- 31:22Speaker 2: Founder of Sport Estate. McAfee gets into how he has
- 31:27Speaker 2: been lumped into political stuff because he had an opinion
- 31:31Speaker 2: on the Algerian boxer. And then he said suddenly that
- 31:34Speaker 2: gets picked up by a lot of outlets and that
- 31:37Speaker 2: feeds this extremism on either side. And then I started
- 31:40Speaker 2: getting threats based off what I said about what was
- 31:43Speaker 2: going on there. Clay is a very political person. Clay
- 31:48Speaker 2: does the biggest political talk show in maybe the world,
- 31:53Speaker 2: certainly in America, every single day with Clay and Buck.
- 31:56Speaker 2: It's number one, yeah. So when you do that, I mean,
- 31:59Speaker 2: Clay knows he's opening himself up when you get it
- 32:02Speaker 2: weighed into politics at all this day and age to
- 32:04Speaker 2: a lot of negativity. Does that justify someone talking about
- 32:08Speaker 2: your wife and kids or talking about your personal well-being?
- 32:11Speaker 2: Absolutely not. We can't blur the lines of what's acceptable
- 32:14Speaker 2: here because oh, well, he said this about this school
- 32:17Speaker 2: or this person, so now it's fair game and he
- 32:20Speaker 2: gets whatever he gets. That's not acceptable. And Clay, on
- 32:24Speaker 2: the Clay Travis show yesterday, got into death threats and
- 32:28Speaker 2: the psychological toll it takes on someone.
- 32:32Speaker 5: And I think about things like this all the time.
- 32:36Speaker 5: I think Pat McAfee's fear is that with the ratcheting
- 32:41Speaker 5: up of negativity, with the fact that everyone who has
- 32:44Speaker 5: a job like mine, like his, we regularly get.
- 32:50Speaker 6: Serious death threats.
- 32:52Speaker 5: We had security outside of my house for the 2024
- 32:57Speaker 5: election because people were sending male death threats to my house,
- 33:02Speaker 5: saying they were going to kill me and counting down
- 33:04Speaker 5: the days until they could do it. We now live
- 33:08Speaker 5: behind a lot of armed security for that exact reason.
- 33:12Speaker 5: I think that in the wake of Charlie Kirk, it
- 33:15Speaker 5: is imminently reasonable for Pat McAfee to have that concern.
- 33:20Speaker 5: And by the way, I don't think it's exclusive to
- 33:22Speaker 5: Pat McAfee. I bet that Kirk Herbstreet would say the
- 33:27Speaker 5: same thing. I bet that Nick Saban would say the
- 33:29Speaker 5: same thing. I bet that Desmond Howard would say the
- 33:32Speaker 5: same thing.
- 33:33Speaker 6: I bet that that.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Matt Leinart would say the same thing. Brady Quinn would
- 33:38Speaker 5: say the same thing. Anybody who sits on a desk
- 33:41Speaker 5: like that in a public venue, it is hard not
- 33:45Speaker 5: to think about somebody deciding to engage in terror while
- 33:49Speaker 5: there is live television going on, or in the case
- 33:52Speaker 5: of the radio show, while there is live radio going on.
- 33:57Speaker 5: And people may say, Clay, why do you mention this?
- 33:59Speaker 5: It's a dark thought. It's Pat McAfee has brought it up,
- 34:06Speaker 5: and I've actually seen a lot of people saying, suck
- 34:08Speaker 5: it up, stop whining. I actually think his fear there
- 34:13Speaker 5: is 100% justified. And I believe he said that the
- 34:15Speaker 5: FBI had told him that he should start wearing a
- 34:17Speaker 5: flak jacket everywhere that he goes.
- 34:19Speaker 6: It doesn't surprise me at all.
- 34:21Speaker 5: I'm sure that he has to have substantial amounts of security.
- 34:24Speaker 5: I mean, heck, we had Enos... Ennis Cantor freedom on
- 34:28Speaker 5: yesterday on the Clay and Buck show. Uh, and then
- 34:31Speaker 5: I went out, we may have a photo of it.
- 34:33Speaker 5: Then I went out and spoke at the Marsha Blackburn, uh, rally.
- 34:36Speaker 5: She's going to be the next governor of Tennessee. Uh,
- 34:39Speaker 5: there's my buddy, Johnny Garrett used to play little league
- 34:42Speaker 5: baseball with him back in the day. Now he's going
- 34:44Speaker 5: to get elected to Congress from the sixth congressional district
- 34:48Speaker 5: of Tennessee, little league baseball to the halls of Congress.
- 34:51Speaker 5: Pretty cool for him. Uh, if you're in Tennessee six,
- 34:54Speaker 5: go vote for him. Here are a couple of other pictures.
- 34:57Speaker 5: Here is Ennis Cantor Freedom with Johnny and some of
- 35:01Speaker 5: his family.
- 35:01Speaker 6: You can start to scroll through these.
- 35:04Speaker 5: They had security arrayed against the entire back wall. And
- 35:07Speaker 5: Ennis Cantor Freedom, because he decided to declare for the WNBA,
- 35:12Speaker 5: is now deluged in death threats and has to have
- 35:16Speaker 5: armed security with him at all times. This is the
- 35:19Speaker 5: world that we live in. And a lot of people
- 35:21Speaker 5: don't talk about it. And a lot of people don't
- 35:24Speaker 5: discuss it. Most of the violence is coming from the
- 35:27Speaker 5: left wing in this country. And if you ask me, Clay,
- 35:30Speaker 5: what is one of your biggest regrets about the way
- 35:33Speaker 5: we have responded to the Charlie Kirk assassination? It's that
- 35:37Speaker 5: a lot of people decided that Charlie Kirk wasn't killed,
- 35:43Speaker 5: which I believe all of the evidence reflects that he was,
- 35:46Speaker 5: by a radical left wing trans activist who was motivated
- 35:52Speaker 5: by trans ideology to kill Charlie Kirk.
- 35:55Speaker 6: I think all of the evidence supports that's why he
- 35:57Speaker 6: did it.
- 35:58Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 35:58Speaker 5: You can watch the trial for yourself. You don't have
- 36:00Speaker 5: to agree with me. But I think he's going to
- 36:03Speaker 5: be convicted of first degree murder. I think all of
- 36:06Speaker 5: the evidence is quite clear.
- 36:07Speaker 6: It's overwhelming.
- 36:10Speaker 5: Instead of that conversation, a bunch of people said, oh,
- 36:12Speaker 5: Israel killed him. Oh, it was somebody else. It was
- 36:15Speaker 5: some right wing zealot. And instead of having a real
- 36:19Speaker 5: conversation about trans violence and how angry people and violent.
- 36:26Speaker 5: So many of these people can be, instead of having
- 36:28Speaker 5: that real conversation, we largely dodged that conversation. And instead
- 36:34Speaker 5: everybody sat around and argued, um, argued that, Oh, I mean,
- 36:39Speaker 5: it's a conspiracy. And anyway, uh, I just think I
- 36:42Speaker 5: got Pat McAfee's back on this. Now, if you want
- 36:44Speaker 5: to argue, Hey, uh, individual videos, or you don't need
- 36:48Speaker 5: to be offended by them, everything else. I think you
- 36:50Speaker 5: need to think about where his mind is and, And
- 36:53Speaker 5: I don't think he's crazy to have his mind there
- 36:56Speaker 5: in a position that when you're in an outdoor venue,
- 37:00Speaker 5: it is incredibly difficult to secure. And I feel like
- 37:05Speaker 5: as someone who is on television there, you have no
- 37:08Speaker 5: idea what's going on around you. You are a proverbial
- 37:10Speaker 5: sitting duck, just like we were when we were doing
- 37:13Speaker 5: radio in Minneapolis. And I believe, did it some guy
- 37:17Speaker 5: go into the Minneapolis Mall of America with a gun
- 37:21Speaker 5: and try to kill as many people as he could?
- 37:23Speaker 5: I'm not making that up. I don't think I think
- 37:25Speaker 5: it happened a few years later. But I remember when
- 37:28Speaker 5: I saw that headline, I said, of course, like there's
- 37:30Speaker 5: very limited security. There's a huge population. The danger is
- 37:34Speaker 5: Legion for many different people there. So all of that
- 37:39Speaker 5: going on. So I got Pat McAfee's back on that one.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Great perspective there from Clay. Chad, I think my initial reaction,
- 37:47Speaker 1: I was reacting to someone called him corny and creepy
- 37:51Speaker 1: and said, keep your shirt on.
- 37:53Speaker 2: And he reacted that way.
- 37:55Speaker 1: And really, he's reacting to the university posting that and
- 37:59Speaker 1: amplifying a video. That's the perspective of why I think
- 38:04Speaker 1: so many said, hey, suck it up, because they're thinking
- 38:07Speaker 1: like you were called corny and creepy. And when you
- 38:10Speaker 1: watch the video, it's not in vitriol by any means.
- 38:15Speaker 1: They're there to see Pat McAfee waiting on college game
- 38:17Speaker 1: day to start.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it was an overreaction. I think it's an overreaction
- 38:26Speaker 2: based on that video, but we didn't know all this
- 38:29Speaker 2: other stuff going on with Pat McAfee at the time.
- 38:31Speaker 2: So now I completely, like Clay, I completely understand why
- 38:34Speaker 2: this would be a triggering thing to him. saying, hey,
- 38:37Speaker 2: I'm getting all this sent to me and about my
- 38:39Speaker 2: family and all that now. I'm here and you're going
- 38:42Speaker 2: to post anything remotely negative about me being here and
- 38:45Speaker 2: you're going to add fuel to that for people who
- 38:47Speaker 2: call me a creep or call me whatever and all
- 38:50Speaker 2: of this. Again, it's one thing to just be outwardly
- 38:54Speaker 2: cruel to someone online and make fun of them for
- 38:58Speaker 2: whatever reason, which that's trolling and that happens everywhere, every day,
- 39:04Speaker 2: all the time to anyone who's even remotely, even people
- 39:06Speaker 2: that aren't public figure sometimes. This stuff happens. But if
- 39:09Speaker 2: you're remotely a public figure, you're going to get some
- 39:12Speaker 2: of that every single day. I do think we need
- 39:14Speaker 2: to reevaluate the laws in our country and the ability
- 39:17Speaker 2: to prosecute someone who sends someone a message like he
- 39:19Speaker 2: posted online. I don't know what the law is on that.
- 39:23Speaker 2: I know it's illegal to send death threats to people.
- 39:26Speaker 2: The punishment needs to be more severe. There needs to
- 39:29Speaker 2: be examples set, right? President Trump has had no problem
- 39:32Speaker 2: making examples about certain crimes and about certain things. And
- 39:36Speaker 2: because of that, we're headed towards a two-year low with
- 39:39Speaker 2: the murder rate in this country and a lack of murders,
- 39:42Speaker 2: which is a great thing. I'd like to see some
- 39:45Speaker 2: prosecution levels to the point where we start to see
- 39:47Speaker 2: this BS remotely. It is not hard to find who's
- 39:52Speaker 2: behind the IP of that account that sent that. I
- 39:56Speaker 2: feel like if you're the FBI or you're anywhere else,
- 39:59Speaker 2: you raid that person at work, you take them away
- 40:02Speaker 2: in handcuffs, and scare the piss out of them at
- 40:05Speaker 2: the very least to never do anything like that again.
- 40:08Speaker 2: If you evaluate that it's just some loser that lives
- 40:11Speaker 2: in their grandmother's basement, and is doing this because they
- 40:14Speaker 2: get a rise out of it, then scare the piss
- 40:16Speaker 2: out of them and embarrass them. Embarrass them in front
- 40:19Speaker 2: of their coworkers, their boss, their family, everyone else for
- 40:23Speaker 2: doing it. Raid their house, take them out of it,
- 40:26Speaker 2: do that. If you find people who are legitimately mentally ill,
- 40:30Speaker 2: who have actually thought about planning something awful like this,
- 40:34Speaker 2: then you lock them up. Look, I'm not endorsing some
- 40:39Speaker 2: sort of minority report with Tom Cruise pre-crime division where
- 40:43Speaker 2: we're going to know everybody's thoughts and go and arrest
- 40:45Speaker 2: everybody because they've had one dark thought in their life
- 40:48Speaker 2: or anything like that. Right. But if you were so awful.
- 40:51Speaker 2: It's like the example we saw. If you were so awful.
- 40:54Speaker 2: I mean, seriously, reevaluate yourself here. If you were sane
- 40:58Speaker 2: at all. If you were so awful that you were
- 41:01Speaker 2: going to message someone talking about their wife and young kids.
- 41:06Speaker 2: We're talking about the way their kids look or the
- 41:09Speaker 2: way anything like that. And you say anything remotely threatening.
- 41:14Speaker 2: I want your ass thrown in jail. I don't think
- 41:16Speaker 2: that's too much to ask.
- 41:18Speaker 1: No, absolutely not. And we know the backstory with Clay.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I mean, they were trying to find that guy or
- 41:24Speaker 1: whoever it was to do exactly that.
- 41:27Speaker 2: That was actually harder because they were doing it with
- 41:29Speaker 2: physical mail. With Clay's situation, not online.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Right.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 41:34Speaker 1: But yeah, they still were able to do some things
- 41:36Speaker 1: to find out the area, which was crazy in and
- 41:40Speaker 1: of itself that they could do that.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Chad, coming up, Lane.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Kiffin is upset with the SEC, and the SEC is
- 41:46Speaker 1: certainly upset with him. And so how are they taking
- 41:49Speaker 1: it out on him? We'll discuss that. Plus, David Pollak
- 41:53Speaker 1: will join us. Coming up in about 30 minutes or so,
- 41:56Speaker 1: right here on Hutton Withrow, presented by Hard Rock Bet.

- 42:16Speaker 2: want now. Refinance and rates come down. Stop juggling credit

- 42:47Speaker 2: must qualify this advertisement. It's not a promise to make alone.
- 42:50Speaker 2: That's the fastest I've ever gotten through that. Well done.
- 42:52Speaker 2: We've got a new record. You've got to do a
- 42:54Speaker 2: rhythm there. That's the fastest speed talking I've ever done.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Man, Speed Talker is also Lane Kiffin, Chad. LSU, it's
- 43:02Speaker 1: almost like it's their birthright to have night games for
- 43:06Speaker 1: college football kickoffs. This matchup against Bama, whenever they host, traditionally,
- 43:12Speaker 1: I mean, the last, what, nearly two decades, it's been
- 43:15Speaker 1: at night at Tiger Stadium, whenever they play Bama, whenever
- 43:18Speaker 1: they host Bama.
- 43:20Speaker 2: But I mean, it I mean, if you.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Just turn on the TV, chances are LSU's playing at night.
- 43:24Speaker 1: They've played four of their five home games this year
- 43:27Speaker 1: under the lights. They had six of their seven last
- 43:30Speaker 1: year under the lights. Same thing for 2025 or 2024.
- 43:36Speaker 1: They're playing under the lights, except for this week where
- 43:39Speaker 1: they kick off at 3.30 Eastern against Alabama as they
- 43:43Speaker 1: host them at Tiger Stadium.
- 43:45Speaker 2: And Kiffin is pissed off about it. Yeah, he's not happy.
- 43:51Speaker 2: And here's the quote from him on why exactly he's
- 43:53Speaker 2: not happy. But, yeah, look, he's saying the SEC's mad
- 43:58Speaker 2: at them about the whole thing with the players. Here's
- 44:00Speaker 2: what I would say to Lane Kiffin. Of course. Of
- 44:04Speaker 2: course they're mad. We'll get into the R.J. Lewis, Will
- 44:07Speaker 2: Wade basketball situation at LSU, but you've got a state
- 44:11Speaker 2: district attorney for Louisiana calling Greg Sankey Kim Jong Sankey.
- 44:17Speaker 2: in a court briefing where they're getting sued by you.
- 44:20Speaker 2: And then the SEC is being forced to sue LSU
- 44:24Speaker 2: and everything that they're doing. So look, man, I don't
- 44:27Speaker 2: know what to tell you. Had you and your program
- 44:30Speaker 2: not been so defiant for so long to where they
- 44:33Speaker 2: were going to actually hold a meeting to consider kicking
- 44:36Speaker 2: LSU out of the conference before you back down, you're
- 44:39Speaker 2: not going to get your precious night game. This is
- 44:42Speaker 2: the way it works. I completely understand the SEC. being
- 44:46Speaker 2: angry with LSU right now. Now, and it's not this week,
- 44:49Speaker 2: it's next week, because both teams are off this week.
- 44:51Speaker 2: It's their next game. That night, they're also doing exactly
- 44:55Speaker 2: what they did with Tennessee and Alabama. They're protecting, instead
- 44:59Speaker 2: of protecting BYU-Notre Dame, they're protecting also Miami-Notre Dame and
- 45:04Speaker 2: Georgia-Old Miss that week. Now, that's an NBC game, Miami-Notre Dame,
- 45:09Speaker 2: so they're not protecting their own Disney interest, but those
- 45:11Speaker 2: are going to be the night game windows. Now, If
- 45:14Speaker 2: you ask me what game would I rather see at night,
- 45:17Speaker 2: Georgia at Ole Miss or Alabama at LSU, I think
- 45:21Speaker 2: it makes sense to flip the two. It's not like
- 45:25Speaker 2: it's a no-brainer. Alabama right now, Hutton, is number 10
- 45:29Speaker 2: at number 15. Currently, Georgia is number three at number 12. Now,
- 45:33Speaker 2: if you're looking at rankings, that's a better matchup for
- 45:36Speaker 2: a nighttime, primetime game than Alabama-LSU. But yeah, I was
- 45:41Speaker 2: a little bit surprised when I saw that this wasn't
- 45:42Speaker 2: going to be a night game.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Yeah, but I guess we're surprised if any game's not
- 45:47Speaker 1: a night game there. Also, it would be on ESPN
- 45:51Speaker 1: and Disney to make that call. They're going to put
- 45:55Speaker 1: the best games where they want and, again, protect other
- 45:58Speaker 1: games the way they choose based on that agreement. But,
- 46:02Speaker 1: I mean, Clemson, 8.40 Central Time kickoff. Louisiana Tech, 6.30 p.m.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Texas A & M, 6.30 p.m. Mideast State, 6.55 p.m.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Mississippi State was 11 a.m. That's the one game that
- 46:15Speaker 1: they've had with the sun overhead at Tiger Stadium. And
- 46:19Speaker 1: if they've got Texas coming up, which is also a
- 46:21Speaker 1: to-be-announced kickoff time, chances are if they beat Bama, I'm
- 46:28Speaker 1: guessing that you gamble on the fact that they will
- 46:32Speaker 1: or they won't. But you assess where all these teams
- 46:35Speaker 1: are and you announce it whenever you have to announce it.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Chances are LSU's hosting that game. That will be under
- 46:40Speaker 1: the lights.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Well....
- 46:44Speaker 2: Look, it's not their God-given birthright to play all big
- 46:48Speaker 2: games at night at LSU, even though LSU fans believe
- 46:52Speaker 2: that it is, and Lane Kiffin certainly believes that it is.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Compare that to Tennessee, though. Look, Clay Travis reported Tennessee
- 46:59Speaker 2: was pissed when Alabama wasn't at night. Tennessee didn't talk
- 47:02Speaker 2: about it. That's the difference with Lane Kiffin and everybody else.
- 47:05Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin goes to the podium, and he talks about it,
- 47:08Speaker 2: or he goes and does an interview and talks about
- 47:11Speaker 2: why he's angry about that. That is the difference between
- 47:15Speaker 2: the two. Whereas Tennessee just said, they told Clay Travis,
- 47:19Speaker 2: someone did, they're angry about it because they were told
- 47:21Speaker 2: by ESPN and Disney that they were going to get
- 47:24Speaker 2: a night game after the 11 a.m. debacle against Texas,
- 47:28Speaker 2: where everyone threw their hands up and said, this is
- 47:30Speaker 2: crazy that this game is on so early. So then
- 47:34Speaker 2: you have that, and they thought they were going to
- 47:35Speaker 2: get a night game in return when they played Alabama.
- 47:38Speaker 2: They didn't. Tennessee complained to people about it without publicly
- 47:43Speaker 2: complaining about it. And I understand the complaint if you
- 47:46Speaker 2: really want a night game. But just in that given
- 47:48Speaker 2: week in the SEC, this is a weird week. It
- 47:52Speaker 2: is weird. It is. 230 central time slot is going
- 47:55Speaker 2: to be Alabama-LSU. Kentucky and Tennessee right now is a
- 47:59Speaker 2: battle number nine versus number 16. Huge game.
- 48:02Speaker 4: Massive.
- 48:03Speaker 2: With both those teams coming off a bye week. The
- 48:06Speaker 2: ESPN created a start time for that game. It's at
- 48:08Speaker 2: 515 central time. 6-15 Eastern. I've never known. Somebody show
- 48:13Speaker 2: me where an SEC game that's not like on ESPN
- 48:16Speaker 2: Plus in a bye game by somebody has started at
- 48:21Speaker 2: 5-15 p.m. Central time. It's a night game, which is
- 48:24Speaker 2: great for the atmosphere in Knoxville. You know, it's going
- 48:27Speaker 2: to be on ESPN at night, which is good. But
- 48:30Speaker 2: 5-15 Central, that's a weird week of college football. But
- 48:35Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin claiming that the SEC hates him? Yeah.
- 48:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:40Speaker 2: They do. Now, will the SEC, I don't know, put
- 48:44Speaker 2: David Smith Jr. 's crew on LSU in that game
- 48:47Speaker 2: and he gets to call his alma mater in that one?
- 48:50Speaker 2: Then that would really show that the SEC hates you.
- 48:52Speaker 2: I want to see some officiating. I want to see
- 48:54Speaker 2: three touchdowns taken off the board for LSU in a
- 48:57Speaker 2: game before I say that the SEC is really up
- 49:00Speaker 2: to something. But hunting something like this where they can
- 49:03Speaker 2: sort of minorly penalize LSU by not giving them their
- 49:06Speaker 2: precious night game?
- 49:07Speaker 1: Of course not. They're going to take an opportunity to
- 49:10Speaker 1: do this. They'll put David Smith Jr. on the LSU-Texas game.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Yeah, because they can't because of his ties to Alabama.
- 49:20Speaker 2: But they'll put him on, hey, whoever you got next,
- 49:23Speaker 2: just like after Tennessee beat up Alabama, we're going to
- 49:26Speaker 2: make sure we put the call in. David Smith Jr.
- 49:29Speaker 2: is on the job. He's like the hitman in Pulp
- 49:32Speaker 2: Fiction in the black suits coming in. He's going to
- 49:36Speaker 2: make sure that that team gets whacked. The very next week,
- 49:39Speaker 2: no matter what. That's what the SEC is going to
- 49:41Speaker 2: do to them. But again, of course, of course the SEC,
- 49:46Speaker 2: if they can take a little shot and they can
- 49:49Speaker 2: penalize you in some minor way, I understand why they're
- 49:54Speaker 2: doing it, and I don't blame them.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Coming up, if you think this is a weird week
- 49:59Speaker 1: for college football that Chad just described, wait until you
- 50:03Speaker 1: see the NFL week, which is not good.
- 50:08Speaker 2: With all the matches. By the way, Hutton, the example
- 50:10Speaker 2: of this is if we sued Clay Travis and Sporting
- 50:13Speaker 2: State all of a sudden or tried to go against
- 50:15Speaker 2: his rules, we'd suddenly be hosting a show at 4 a.m.
- 50:18Speaker 2: You know, like, hey, you guys are no longer on
- 50:21Speaker 2: at 7 a.m. Central Time. 4 a.m. Central time. It
- 50:24Speaker 2: would punish JT and everyone else, too. But if he
- 50:27Speaker 2: could do that, then he would do it. And I
- 50:29Speaker 2: would be like, yeah, probably would have done the same
- 50:31Speaker 2: thing if I were Clay Travis in that scenario.
- 50:33Speaker 1: I just wish they would have done this for A &
- 50:34Speaker 1: M and Clemson, too.
- 50:37Speaker 2: With all the other kickoffs.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Hey, Chad, coming up, one big thing on every NFL
- 50:41Speaker 1: game and why there's such a terrible game on Sunday
- 50:44Speaker 1: Night Football.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Let's straight ahead.
