- 0:17Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast, Hunter Sharp, Austin Rose, Dakota, Freed
- 0:22Speaker 1: Tech Season seven finale, wrapping up our seventh year of podcast, and.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We got a lot to talk about basketball, football, baseball, softball,
- 0:34Speaker 2: all the likes here in Husker sports. I think the
- 0:38Speaker 2: biggest hottest topic is basketball season coming to a close,
- 0:45Speaker 2: losing to Dare I say their name? I don't even
- 0:49Speaker 2: I'm going to down in Houston. I went down to
- 0:54Speaker 2: the game, made the drive on Wednesday, got down there
- 1:01Speaker 2: Thursday morning. Was not okay See level, but still very
- 1:06Speaker 2: very impressive turnout. Houston's laid out very differently than okay
- 1:13Speaker 2: See is and and then we all know by this
- 1:18Speaker 2: point how the game ended up Sweet sixteen.
- 1:26Speaker 3: That going to do? Wait before you checked out on
- 1:28Speaker 3: a Hunter.
- 1:30Speaker 4: I don't you know. I don't think I texted him
- 1:33Speaker 4: that night.
- 1:35Speaker 3: I might here. I didn't text anyone that night.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I want I think no I did. I texted him.
- 1:41Speaker 4: He said, everyone there is so sad walking down the stadium.
- 1:45Speaker 3: As it should be.
- 1:47Speaker 5: I don't.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I don't know that I said sad. I think more
- 1:50Speaker 2: pissed off was what I said.
- 1:52Speaker 4: You called it, Austin, though you were worried about Iowa.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I was not.
- 1:57Speaker 4: I was not, and I got I got think I had.
- 1:59Speaker 3: It was losing by seven and we lost by six.
- 2:02Speaker 4: So yeah, but I can see why you were scared.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Now.
- 2:07Speaker 4: It sucks.
- 2:08Speaker 5: I still to off to that point. You know, whether
- 2:11Speaker 5: you play Florida or Iowa.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I mean, I still think obviously for the sake of
- 2:15Speaker 2: winning the game playing on.
- 2:16Speaker 3: You would rather play Iowa.
- 2:18Speaker 2: But the feeling of what happened after the game was
- 2:20Speaker 2: exactly what we didn't want to happen, was having this
- 2:24Speaker 2: miraculous season come to an end at the hands of
- 2:27Speaker 2: the Iowahaw guys that you know, historically best season ever
- 2:31Speaker 2: in Nebraska basketball. Yet the team just to the east
- 2:35Speaker 2: of us that claims they have better corn steps in
- 2:39Speaker 2: our way, not a not a twenty seven and five
- 2:42Speaker 2: iowahawkeyed team, that top ten team, a nine seed that
- 2:47Speaker 2: caught fire here towards the end of the year and
- 2:50Speaker 2: takes game three from the three game series that we
- 2:54Speaker 2: had with them here this year.
- 2:57Speaker 3: It was really more of how it went down. You know.
- 3:00Speaker 6: It was a game that we started out as well
- 3:02Speaker 6: as we could have started. And I will also, I mean,
- 3:04Speaker 6: I shouldn't say that because I also started out incredibly
- 3:07Speaker 6: warm when they're shooting. But we got up ten early
- 3:12Speaker 6: and we held on to a lead for most of
- 3:14Speaker 6: the game, and then the three point shot disappeared and
- 3:21Speaker 6: then it just fell apart in the last three minutes,
- 3:23Speaker 6: and then of course the four person on the court
- 3:27Speaker 6: for the easy dunk for the five point leads, six
- 3:30Speaker 6: point lead, I don't.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Remember what it was, and yeah, the free throw made
- 3:34Speaker 5: it sense.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 3:38Speaker 6: Really just how it happened. If it if we lost
- 3:40Speaker 6: in a competitive game, like it was a competitive game,
- 3:45Speaker 6: but it was more of us just falling apart. It
- 3:48Speaker 6: wasn't it wasn't like I always doing anything incredible. We
- 3:51Speaker 6: were doing incredible. It was just we just the wheels
- 3:53Speaker 6: fell off and we did not recover, and the last
- 3:57Speaker 6: ten seconds of the game was just you know, permian
- 4:00Speaker 6: encapsulation of how the second half went was where we
- 4:02Speaker 6: shot six times and we basically bricked every three pointer.
- 4:07Speaker 2: And we're recording on on Tuesday night, so the game's
- 4:10Speaker 2: five game or five days out already, and it took
- 4:14Speaker 2: me a couple of days to kind of get myself
- 4:16Speaker 2: to go back and say, know, this season was it
- 4:20Speaker 2: was a good season, and and and really celebrate and
- 4:22Speaker 2: enjoy the success that we had best season in Nebraska
- 4:25Speaker 2: basketball history.
- 4:26Speaker 5: But I mean, it's stung.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It did it did sting for a couple of days.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Now talking about it again is digging all that backed
- 4:34Speaker 2: up after I finally got myself over it.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Yeah, it hurts.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Yeah, And I don't know about you guys, but I
- 4:41Speaker 4: was kind of over at it by Friday. Saturday came
- 4:43Speaker 4: around and I saw Illinois I would play. I'm like, God, damn,
- 4:46Speaker 4: I wish you were playing one game.
- 4:49Speaker 6: I didn't watch a lick of basketball for basically three days.
- 4:52Speaker 6: I didn't know who made it to the Final four
- 4:55Speaker 6: until Monday morning when I logged in and my work computer,
- 4:57Speaker 6: I looked at ESPN. That's how it's man.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I was, yeah, yeah, what's weird watching that Illinois, Iowa
- 5:06Speaker 2: Gay and all the final four games. Obviously, this year
- 5:09Speaker 2: we were in a position to play in those and
- 5:11Speaker 2: we're in that conversation where we've never been in our lives.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Always March madness in the tournament is something in America
- 5:20Speaker 2: that is one of the most watched sporting events, and
- 5:22Speaker 2: everybody enjoys it.
- 5:23Speaker 5: Right.
- 5:24Speaker 2: This year was different for Husker fans, because we actually
- 5:27Speaker 2: were in the conversation, So you're right, like, I still
- 5:29Speaker 2: watched the games this weekend, the second ones, and enjoyed
- 5:33Speaker 2: them and as a basketball fan, but it was in
- 5:37Speaker 2: the back of your mind that may like we were
- 5:41Speaker 2: that close to playing in this game and having a
- 5:44Speaker 2: completely different perspective of March Madness, and we did. I mean,
- 5:49Speaker 2: we were in the Sweet sixteen, right it was. It
- 5:52Speaker 2: was still a very very awesome experience and one that
- 5:56Speaker 2: we've never had before. But at the same time, it
- 5:59Speaker 2: makes you the what if cards up.
- 6:01Speaker 5: There, the what if?
- 6:02Speaker 3: What if card? What if?
- 6:04Speaker 6: I mean not gonna lie that Thursday I was dreaming.
- 6:09Speaker 6: I was like, you know, we could be die with them.
- 6:11Speaker 6: You know, we played, you know, we've beaten Illinois, and
- 6:14Speaker 6: then all of a sudden, you're in the final four
- 6:16Speaker 6: and anything can happen, you know, the wheels it started
- 6:19Speaker 6: running a little bit.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Let's just say, in the car right on the way down.
- 6:23Speaker 2: With my dad, we had a debate on if Nebraska
- 6:28Speaker 2: were to win the national championship, wouldn't this be more
- 6:30Speaker 2: impressive than the Curt Signetti Indiana turnaround? That was the
- 6:35Speaker 2: conversation for fifteen or twenty minutes that we obviously long
- 6:39Speaker 2: car ride, but yeah, we were dreaming like we were, Okay,
- 6:42Speaker 2: there's four games here, like we we who knows the
- 6:46Speaker 2: way we play?
- 6:46Speaker 4: Who knows you know. You know what's crazy about it, guys,
- 6:50Speaker 4: is it's Nebraska basketball that makes you feel this this way,
- 6:56Speaker 4: like this satur whatever, and not ne braske football like
- 6:59Speaker 4: never in list so we had. People are still talking
- 7:00Speaker 4: about the game five days later, like man, Frank Mass
- 7:03Speaker 4: with his threes whatever, like you're still hearing and it's
- 7:06Speaker 4: not just us, it's like people all around town and
- 7:08Speaker 4: all the friends stuff is still talking about that game.
- 7:10Speaker 4: It's crazy as Nebraska basketball did that.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, do we need to talk about the
- 7:16Speaker 6: specifics of the game where rank Mass just went absolutely
- 7:19Speaker 6: ice cold behind the three point.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't. I don't need to.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I mean.
- 7:25Speaker 2: The game the game, like you said, we started off
- 7:28Speaker 2: really well, and I give credit to Ben McCollum and
- 7:30Speaker 2: IOWA like that.
- 7:31Speaker 5: He's a very good basketball coach.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Wonderfully he's gone, one.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Of the best in the country. Dack says he's gone.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Is he actually goes on?
- 7:40Speaker 4: No, hopefully he's gone. I hope he goes North Carolina.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think he's going anywhere. He's in Iowa.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Midwestern guy at heart.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I think he's staying and he's a really good coach,
- 7:51Speaker 2: like and he got the most just like Fred got
- 7:55Speaker 2: the most out of our guys at several points throughout
- 7:58Speaker 2: this year. I think that was too very good basketball
- 8:00Speaker 2: coaches that No, we didn't have the the stars and
- 8:04Speaker 2: the athletes that a lot of these other final four
- 8:06Speaker 2: teams do. Uh and and we were able to make
- 8:08Speaker 2: the most of what we had. Iowa did the same thing.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It just sucks that again, the opponent is the one
- 8:17Speaker 2: that we just we can't every sport we we just
- 8:22Speaker 2: we they're so similar to us and probably I shouldn't
- 8:26Speaker 2: say probably they have less resources than we do financially overall,
- 8:30Speaker 2: like they're they're they're right next door like their arrival
- 8:36Speaker 2: for us.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Here's the Here's I.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Was telling some people this too, the shittiest part about
- 8:42Speaker 2: all this, and they're asking, you know where Iowa Iowa
- 8:45Speaker 2: fan snarky and where they where they rub it in
- 8:48Speaker 2: your face and like as it was a rivalry game
- 8:51Speaker 2: and all them like, no they weren't, because they they
- 8:55Speaker 2: they they just kick our ass and everything, and we're
- 8:58Speaker 2: not even really their number one rival. We we always say,
- 9:00Speaker 2: oh we hate Iowa, that right, because we don't play Oklahoma,
- 9:03Speaker 2: we don't play Texas, we don't play Colorado year to
- 9:06Speaker 2: year in all these sports.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I would still plays Iowa State.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I think Iowa, Iowa State, Iowa, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin,
- 9:17Speaker 2: the other rivals that are like a bigger deal because
- 9:20Speaker 2: the series with them and everything is so much more competitive.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's what's funny is after the game, it wasn't even
- 9:26Speaker 2: like like if Nebraska fans, if we would have beat Iowa,
- 9:29Speaker 2: yeah we're Nebraska Knights, we would have been just rubbing
- 9:32Speaker 2: it in Iowa's face about how we beat them.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Iowa fans didn't care. They're like, yeah, we just beat
- 9:37Speaker 5: Nebraska because we're just we're gonna beat them in everything
- 9:40Speaker 5: we do.
- 9:40Speaker 2: That's the part that I just it makes you laugh
- 9:43Speaker 2: a little bit and it's like, God, damn, this just sucks.
- 9:47Speaker 4: And the part that really sucks to is which I
- 9:50Speaker 4: don't know if it's better or worse if you want
- 9:51Speaker 4: to pay from that game. I don't know how you
- 9:52Speaker 4: guys felt about it. I thought Nebraska did not play
- 9:55Speaker 4: that bad. They still lost.
- 9:58Speaker 3: No, I mean they didn't. I would did lead until
- 10:01Speaker 3: three minutes left in the game.
- 10:03Speaker 4: No, let's wish we'll get into that. The reason when
- 10:05Speaker 4: Nebraska went to shit is they showed Matt ruling the
- 10:07Speaker 4: TV and that's when they went downhill the program Matt ruled.
- 10:14Speaker 4: But that's no joke. When they showed him. I think
- 10:17Speaker 4: I went on a fifteen to five run after that
- 10:18Speaker 4: and that was the end of the game. But yeah,
- 10:21Speaker 4: that's yeah, he needs he needs to get away from that.
- 10:24Speaker 4: But but yeah, just thing, and it's the reason why
- 10:28Speaker 4: they lost the game is because Rank mastering histories and
- 10:29Speaker 4: Sam Wyburg went cold too. But it everybody else played well,
- 10:33Speaker 4: I thought, and it just sucks it.
- 10:35Speaker 5: And I Dak you kind of said that very bluntly.
- 10:37Speaker 2: At the reason why we lost was Rank mass Like
- 10:40Speaker 2: I I there's obviously several parts of the game that
- 10:45Speaker 2: that determined the outcome. Uh.
- 10:48Speaker 5: No, Rank didn't have his best game.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Uh. I think Bennett starts, they hit some shots, and
- 10:55Speaker 2: some people are just saying.
- 10:56Speaker 5: At the end of the game, what what did it
- 10:57Speaker 5: come down to?
- 10:57Speaker 2: When it was tied up with four and a half
- 11:00Speaker 2: minutes to go or three and half minutes to go,
- 11:02Speaker 2: Iowa goes four out of five their next five threes
- 11:04Speaker 2: and we go over six. Like, no, it doesn't just
- 11:08Speaker 2: simply come down to who makes her missus shots. But
- 11:11Speaker 2: at the same time, at that point in the game,
- 11:13Speaker 2: that's what happened. And it wasn't like we were getting
- 11:18Speaker 2: uncontested or contested looks like we were getting some decent
- 11:21Speaker 2: looking shots and we just.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Weren't breaking this.
- 11:24Speaker 2: And and I will say those last few minutes Iowa
- 11:28Speaker 2: that they just I could just tell the way they
- 11:30Speaker 2: are moving the ball. They finally broke through the Nate
- 11:34Speaker 2: Lenser scheme on defense and they were able just to
- 11:37Speaker 2: get any open shot they wanted to. They're in that
- 11:40Speaker 2: second part of the second half, and that's where it
- 11:43Speaker 2: was just hard. It just was cringey like it. Iowa
- 11:48Speaker 2: fans were out numbered, you know, four to one by
- 11:51Speaker 2: Nebraska fans, if not five to.
- 11:52Speaker 5: One there in that arena.
- 11:54Speaker 2: It sounded loud, and those Iowa fans got very loud, obviously,
- 11:58Speaker 2: as they should. And that that was the hardest part
- 12:01Speaker 2: was sitting there and as everything was just spiraling away
- 12:05Speaker 2: from us, absorbing that all in and then yeah, just
- 12:12Speaker 2: haven't I've been on road games where I've come up
- 12:14Speaker 2: with a lot of losses, so I'm used to that
- 12:16Speaker 2: part of it. But I, like you said, Austin, kind
- 12:19Speaker 2: of the way it happened, how we led for ninety
- 12:22Speaker 2: ninety five percent of the game and and ended up
- 12:27Speaker 2: just falling apart at the end, it just hurts.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I mean absolutely, I mean, yeah, it was. It was
- 12:32Speaker 3: really bad.
- 12:34Speaker 6: And you know, another thing we talked about, what again
- 12:36Speaker 6: the refs did not The refs called the game evenly
- 12:39Speaker 6: between two teams, but the way in which the game
- 12:41Speaker 6: was called is not favorable to our style of offense,
- 12:43Speaker 6: so that they let the which is you know which. Honestly,
- 12:48Speaker 6: the game went so quick it was a It was
- 12:50Speaker 6: a fun game to watch, and part of that was
- 12:51Speaker 6: because they were letting them play it.
- 12:53Speaker 3: But it doesn't benefit the team who was less physical.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, when on behalf was called with like four minutes
- 13:00Speaker 2: left or three minutes left, it I look, we looked
- 13:02Speaker 2: at the scoreboards like, holy crap, like it did it
- 13:05Speaker 2: just flew by? And I agree, I thought the refs
- 13:08Speaker 2: did a much better job this game than they did
- 13:10Speaker 2: against Vanderbilt.
- 13:11Speaker 5: The Vanderbilt game was just inconsistent and choppy. Uh, it didn't.
- 13:14Speaker 5: It didn't feel like the rest are in the way
- 13:16Speaker 5: at all this game. It just was officiated.
- 13:18Speaker 2: And I do think you know, when you when you
- 13:19Speaker 2: get to the NCAA tournament and the NBA playoffs, and
- 13:22Speaker 2: I mean, hell, go to football to the players.
- 13:26Speaker 5: You want to let the players beside the outcome.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Obviously there's an extent where you cross the line in
- 13:31Speaker 2: our quote unquote breaking the rules. But I thought the
- 13:34Speaker 2: rest officiated the game very well, and it just it
- 13:37Speaker 2: they just got enough to us, you know, with the
- 13:39Speaker 2: physicality standpoint that that it.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Did bother us.
- 13:42Speaker 3: So Suns.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Still still looking back on into the last couple of days.
- 13:50Speaker 4: What a hell of season.
- 13:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I was just gonna say, I I know, we
- 13:53Speaker 5: say you're smoking on Iowa. I think.
- 13:57Speaker 2: We have to take a step back, you know, given
- 13:59Speaker 2: this is our last episode of season seven for the
- 14:02Speaker 2: podcast here and just appreciate this year for what it was.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I mean, basketball is a very long season. You know,
- 14:10Speaker 2: you start at the end of October, early November and
- 14:14Speaker 2: you finish up here at the end of March. Just
- 14:18Speaker 2: just an incredible ride and what this team was able
- 14:22Speaker 2: to accomplish. I will be the first one to admit
- 14:25Speaker 2: myself that I thought this team was not going to
- 14:26Speaker 2: be very good, and I thought this is the end
- 14:28Speaker 2: of the Fred Hoiberg era. I really did, just looking
- 14:31Speaker 2: at our roster what it was made of, I you know,
- 14:34Speaker 2: didn't expect I do sandfor it could play. You know,
- 14:38Speaker 2: I didn't expect what Price came in and did so
- 14:40Speaker 2: quickly for us. I think obviously all these players, the
- 14:46Speaker 2: contributions they made were above and beyond not just what
- 14:49Speaker 2: I expected, but I think what everybody expected with this
- 14:52Speaker 2: team obviously picking picking to finish fourteenth in the Big Ten.
- 14:57Speaker 5: So like it's one of those things that.
- 15:02Speaker 2: You really got to appreciate that the standard or the
- 15:06Speaker 2: new level of standard that they they're setting for the future,
- 15:09Speaker 2: and hopefully that leads to some brighter years ahead here
- 15:14Speaker 2: in the near future.
- 15:16Speaker 4: This team will be the team that Austin tells us
- 15:18Speaker 4: good about.
- 15:19Speaker 6: Probably come here, Sam, I've got to tell you a
- 15:23Speaker 6: story about.
- 15:26Speaker 3: No I saw it. So we lost seven games to
- 15:30Speaker 3: five teams, and four of those teams made it to
- 15:32Speaker 3: the ELITEA. I mean, that's as far as it goes,
- 15:36Speaker 3: Like that's a pretty good year to only have seven
- 15:38Speaker 3: losses and you know, to five teams eighty percent of
- 15:43Speaker 3: them making it to the Elite eight, that's pretty freaking good.
- 15:46Speaker 3: And we were right there. I mean, we could have
- 15:48Speaker 3: been in the Elite eight.
- 15:49Speaker 6: So I'll be interested to see, you know, how this
- 15:52Speaker 6: success carries over. Is this a product of having just
- 15:55Speaker 6: a group of guys that it works. Is this, you know,
- 15:59Speaker 6: as Fred finally figured it out the secret sauce or
- 16:01Speaker 6: is it just that one year that everything worked out.
- 16:05Speaker 2: I don't know, and I will say that's a big thing.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I think, especially with teams like this. You mentioned that
- 16:10Speaker 2: things clicked and things quote unquote worked out. I do
- 16:14Speaker 2: think having the right mix of players in the locker
- 16:16Speaker 2: room and the dynamic amongst the team take take take
- 16:19Speaker 2: all of the on the court stuff out of it.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I think that matters a lot more than people really realize.
- 16:26Speaker 2: You know, today's world is all about recruiting and and
- 16:29Speaker 2: the talent and all of this stuff the transfer portal. Like,
- 16:32Speaker 2: if you can get the right mix of guys mentally
- 16:35Speaker 2: and emotionally playing together and doing exactly what you're trying
- 16:39Speaker 2: to accomplish, it can really make a big impact. And
- 16:41Speaker 2: I think this is a definition of that team now
- 16:44Speaker 2: did you did you figure out kind of to your
- 16:46Speaker 2: point outs?
- 16:47Speaker 5: And did we figure out what that was? You know?
- 16:49Speaker 5: Or was it luck? I you know, you hope it
- 16:51Speaker 5: wasn't luck.
- 16:52Speaker 2: And we can build the same thing and start then
- 16:55Speaker 2: adding maybe some pieces to that have even more talent.
- 16:59Speaker 2: And that's where you can be become a consistent UH
- 17:02Speaker 2: tournament team and in a consistent top twenty five team
- 17:05Speaker 2: in basketball, which obviously we have never been more close
- 17:08Speaker 2: to that.
- 17:10Speaker 3: You wish that we brought all of our recruits to
- 17:12Speaker 3: the Oklahoma game, just be like, hey, you know, just
- 17:15Speaker 3: come watch to watch that road environment if you're interested.
- 17:20Speaker 4: That's That's another thing, is all these recruits are watching,
- 17:22Speaker 4: They're like, man, that that was a cool atmosphere and everything,
- 17:25Speaker 4: and and it sounds like which they should do is
- 17:28Speaker 4: I should take away all the football money. Who gives
- 17:29Speaker 4: a crap about them anymore? But it sounds like Troy
- 17:33Speaker 4: Dannon is wanting to throw more money into the basketball team,
- 17:37Speaker 4: and I think it's gonna stick around. I mean, look
- 17:40Speaker 4: what we got to come back. We got siege in Fragert. Well,
- 17:42Speaker 4: you hope frekar Stanford, yep. I think Sanford's pretty much
- 17:47Speaker 4: a lock. But Freger is the big one. Keep him
- 17:50Speaker 4: and then yeah, build from there.
- 17:53Speaker 3: I say it, go ahead. I'm good with the siege.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I don't need the guy recording everything. I don't know.
- 18:01Speaker 3: I got the I get the egg. I'm winning a
- 18:04Speaker 3: little bit like, I don't know, weird influencing thing.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I think the one thing that you have to keep
- 18:11Speaker 2: in mind with all of this portal stuff and an
- 18:15Speaker 2: I yell and money, like, it's still a big world
- 18:19Speaker 2: of unknown and so you want to lock people in
- 18:23Speaker 2: on staying because they like it here, or lock people
- 18:26Speaker 2: or tell say people they're leaving because of whatever reason,
- 18:28Speaker 2: right I I don't I'm not going to ever try
- 18:32Speaker 2: to predict that because there's so much going on, so
- 18:36Speaker 2: much unknown, and everybody has different values on what they
- 18:41Speaker 2: believe is important to them. I've seen you know, Fregger
- 18:46Speaker 2: on social media. People are saying, no, he's probably staying
- 18:49Speaker 2: now based on some of the comments and the way
- 18:52Speaker 2: he's wording certain things.
- 18:54Speaker 5: You know, Price.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Price obviously has the NBA draft to consider and and
- 18:58Speaker 2: where that puts him there.
- 19:01Speaker 5: I even heard someone today talk about what if North.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Carolina comes in and gives them a bag that's twice
- 19:07Speaker 2: a size of ours, right, Like, does.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Does that matter? Maybe maybe not. I don't know.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You're right that it sounds like we're going to the
- 19:16Speaker 2: number that I've heard, you know, doubling our basketball funds capacity,
- 19:21Speaker 2: whatever that means from four to eight million. I think
- 19:24Speaker 2: that that money comes from two places. That the rev
- 19:29Speaker 2: shared money, which isn't a big piece of that.
- 19:33Speaker 5: That's part of it.
- 19:33Speaker 2: But of the twenty million revenue that every athletic department receives,
- 19:37Speaker 2: they can allocate that out to their different programs and
- 19:41Speaker 2: and you know basketball is the second most after football,
- 19:43Speaker 2: but you know, there's a fine line of how that
- 19:47Speaker 2: all goes. I don't think you can just obviously take
- 19:49Speaker 2: eighteen million of it and say here you go basketball,
- 19:51Speaker 2: like that's not going to happen.
- 19:53Speaker 5: So that's part of it.
- 19:55Speaker 3: And then also just don't know how well that translates success.
- 19:58Speaker 5: You don't know, you know, you don't at all.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And then the nil piece is the other side of
- 20:01Speaker 2: things and all the deals that are coming through. And
- 20:04Speaker 2: there's right now a lot of stuff going on on
- 20:07Speaker 2: the back behind the scenes with the.
- 20:11Speaker 5: College Sports Commission, the CSC and the eighteen players Nebraska
- 20:15Speaker 5: that are saying they didn't get paid whatever.
- 20:17Speaker 2: So there's stuff there that has dynamics and everything as well.
- 20:23Speaker 2: So there's a lot going on when it comes to
- 20:25Speaker 2: who's coming back and who's leaving. The transfer portal for
- 20:29Speaker 2: basketball does open on April seventh and is open for
- 20:31Speaker 2: two weeks, so that's going to be here in a
- 20:33Speaker 2: week and we're going to have a really good idea
- 20:36Speaker 2: on the type of players that we're going to beginning
- 20:38Speaker 2: to come in. I would hope that to the what
- 20:44Speaker 2: Austin said about the things clicking and the course thing together,
- 20:47Speaker 2: that that's going to have a bigger influence on a
- 20:50Speaker 2: lot of these players than people realize because of the
- 20:53Speaker 2: success that we had in wanting to return and sustain
- 20:57Speaker 2: in or take it to the next step.
- 20:58Speaker 5: You hope that that's the case.
- 21:00Speaker 2: That's obviously every Huskers fans hope if North Carolina comes
- 21:04Speaker 2: in and offers price Stanford three times the amount of
- 21:06Speaker 2: money to go play at North Carolina.
- 21:09Speaker 5: I don't know that we're gonna have a big answer
- 21:10Speaker 5: for that.
- 21:13Speaker 2: So I think that that's all things to consider when
- 21:17Speaker 2: thinking about this. It makes it fun, though, that we're
- 21:19Speaker 2: in that conversation and you're right, if you're a player
- 21:23Speaker 2: and you're trying to decide between well, let's just throw
- 21:26Speaker 2: out a random ACC school, Clemson or a Nebraska. And
- 21:31Speaker 2: you just watched what Nebraska did in the NCAA term.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Members is what Clemson did, right, And you're deciding between
- 21:36Speaker 2: the two schools and they're both gonna pay the same
- 21:37Speaker 2: amount of money. Yeah, the fan base and the support
- 21:40Speaker 2: that you saw and okay, see Houston all that, you
- 21:44Speaker 2: think that has to make a difference.
- 21:46Speaker 5: From a from a from a player standpoint too.
- 21:48Speaker 3: So I just I just I don't.
- 21:53Speaker 6: I don't know, like the Prince been doing this for
- 21:55Speaker 6: seven years and this is really the you know, only
- 21:59Speaker 6: a second years success. He's hard, right, He's had a
- 22:04Speaker 6: lot of duds, you know, like we got we had
- 22:06Speaker 6: the five star recruits and that did not work out.
- 22:08Speaker 6: You know, we had the offensive transfers that didn't work out.
- 22:12Speaker 6: We just happened to land On Price, who Fred's been
- 22:17Speaker 6: kind of working with since he was like a ten
- 22:19Speaker 6: year old because you know, he's from Iowa and he
- 22:20Speaker 6: was at Iowa State and did all these coaching camps
- 22:23Speaker 6: and offered him at Iowa State.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Sam who's his son. You know, It's just like I
- 22:28Speaker 3: don't know.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Did things just come together? And it's not.
- 22:32Speaker 2: We're not sitting here and saying Fred Hoiberg's a bad coach,
- 22:34Speaker 2: but we were all to the point. I mean I
- 22:37Speaker 2: was to the point definitely that right and move on,
- 22:40Speaker 2: like try something different. Things were not working. It was
- 22:42Speaker 2: very stale. I do think I don't think this is
- 22:46Speaker 2: a case where you should go out and say to everybody, Yeah,
- 22:50Speaker 2: this is why you got to give somebody.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Seven years to turn a program around. It takes time.
- 22:54Speaker 2: It's not the case at all, right, like that, that's
- 22:58Speaker 2: this is an anomaly. I think of what happened in
- 23:00Speaker 2: a coacher's life cycle where there wasn't much pressure on
- 23:03Speaker 2: him in the first few years because of the program
- 23:05Speaker 2: and who we were. I just it, it just there's
- 23:09Speaker 2: not there wasn't you could fail like we did and
- 23:12Speaker 2: be like, yeah, all right, well I guess we're seeing progress.
- 23:15Speaker 5: I don't know, and.
- 23:17Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean props here for the program staying
- 23:19Speaker 2: on and sticking with them, because it ended up paying
- 23:22Speaker 2: off now eventually. I do think a lot of that too,
- 23:25Speaker 2: had to deal with the people that Fred surrounded himself
- 23:27Speaker 2: with with his staff, and then obviously, like you said,
- 23:30Speaker 2: Austin some of the players that he was able to
- 23:32Speaker 2: get in and the connection he made with them, which
- 23:34Speaker 2: is all part of learning as well. So I again
- 23:37Speaker 2: props props to Fred. It's Fred a top ten coach
- 23:41Speaker 2: in the country. No like I saw. I saw the
- 23:45Speaker 2: Sweet sixteen coaches ranking. Someone went through and ranked all
- 23:49Speaker 2: the coaches and Fred was like, I think thirteen to sixteen, right,
- 23:52Speaker 2: Like I.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Think it's probably about right.
- 23:55Speaker 2: I was looking at the guys ahead of him, I'm like, yep, yep, yep,
- 23:59Speaker 2: like it'll they're all better coaches in my mind. But
- 24:03Speaker 2: you know, what Fred did this year was pretty amazing
- 24:06Speaker 2: given the pieces that we have.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Here's one good thing to come away from that game
- 24:10Speaker 4: for people staying is that sting from losing that game
- 24:14Speaker 4: will want We'll make fragrant Sanford want to come back,
- 24:16Speaker 4: I think, and come back and let's go kick I
- 24:20Speaker 4: was ass or whatever. And there's there's one more thing
- 24:23Speaker 4: about Fred Hoiberg. He's un like the football team. He's
- 24:28Speaker 4: not full of shit like a football coach is. He
- 24:30Speaker 4: will tell you how it is. He's not just gonna
- 24:32Speaker 4: be like, oh, it's raised roses in however we say it.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Days day's over here. Whatever, he tells it how it is,
- 24:39Speaker 4: and I think players see that Matt rule is so
- 24:41Speaker 4: full of shit. But we'll get damn later. But I
- 24:44Speaker 4: think Hoiberg will tell it how it is and players
- 24:46Speaker 4: respect him for that.
- 24:49Speaker 3: I mean, this quigger gonna get Hoiberg gonna get a
- 24:51Speaker 3: statue a p BA.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 24:56Speaker 5: I think he definitely could.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I mean, I think if we fall off and there's
- 25:00Speaker 2: come in the next couple of years, it.
- 25:02Speaker 5: Might change things. But I mean it is as.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Far as what we were able to do in the
- 25:06Speaker 2: in the storyline that went along with the tournament drought,
- 25:09Speaker 2: even just getting that first win was pretty incredible. We'll
- 25:12Speaker 2: see I've heard that too.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Is kind of funny.
- 25:15Speaker 3: But with just we just extended in what five years?
- 25:19Speaker 3: Four years?
- 25:20Speaker 6: So you really hope you hope this wasn't just the
- 25:24Speaker 6: you know, the not again not just compare to the
- 25:27Speaker 6: football program, but the Matt rules starting in five and
- 25:30Speaker 6: one and then getting a big extension.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Because Penn State job opened up.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Right.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Uh, last thing we'll do on basketball, Your favorite moment
- 25:41Speaker 2: for the for the year.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Austin a Lego first going.
- 25:44Speaker 6: To be a first game in Oklahoma City. The first
- 25:47Speaker 6: tournament went for sure. I mean, that's like an old
- 25:52Speaker 6: time that's like probably my Favoritehuscer fan.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Moment, one of the best moments of my life, not
- 26:00Speaker 4: even just the Husker fan mones of the year, was
- 26:02Speaker 4: the Vanderbilt end of the Vanderbilt game when Freker hit
- 26:06Speaker 4: that layup and then mixed in with the guy missing
- 26:08Speaker 4: the shot by like in half a centimeter, mixed into
- 26:11Speaker 4: all that and then the celebration after easily. I told
- 26:14Speaker 4: Hunter this, and I believe it. I don't think I'll
- 26:15Speaker 4: go to anything more fun in my life than that game.
- 26:20Speaker 4: You hope we do.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Hopefully we get to the final four in the Natty
- 26:22Speaker 2: title and something. Yeah, obviously, I think those are the
- 26:27Speaker 2: two answers common answers. I mean, I think just other
- 26:31Speaker 2: want to throw out there, just to relive them again
- 26:33Speaker 2: in your mind. That Oklahoma Sue Falls game.
- 26:39Speaker 5: Dak and I both went to that one.
- 26:40Speaker 2: That one was was pretty pretty incredible what we were
- 26:43Speaker 2: able to do, and that was kind of the first
- 26:45Speaker 2: sign of Okay, well, I think we might have something
- 26:49Speaker 2: here that's.
- 26:50Speaker 4: Pretty goods went there, Hunter real quick after that game. Mean,
- 26:54Speaker 4: you said we will not go to more fun basketball
- 26:55Speaker 4: game this season than that, and were we wrong, We
- 26:58Speaker 4: were wrong.
- 27:01Speaker 6: Also throw out the Iowa overtime where Cal Jacobson and
- 27:05Speaker 6: San foi Burg just took over and scored ninth straight.
- 27:09Speaker 7: As far as that one was big, I think that
- 27:12Speaker 7: the Illinois road game with the JaMarcus Warne shot and
- 27:15Speaker 7: the Kings Belka near heart attack, Uh, that that was
- 27:20Speaker 7: pretty awesome.
- 27:20Speaker 2: The Michigan State as we just cracked the top twenty
- 27:23Speaker 2: five and play a top ten team.
- 27:25Speaker 5: At home, you store in the court afterwards.
- 27:30Speaker 2: I think that was a that was a huge game
- 27:31Speaker 2: there on that Saturday.
- 27:35Speaker 5: Just there are countless moments here that you forget.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Whoa whoa whoa beating b y U an exhibition.
- 27:41Speaker 3: There you go?
- 27:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that, Yeah, I mean that's.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Why you d up not being as good of it.
- 27:46Speaker 5: That probably cracks maybe the top ten, but like.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I I triple doubles higher than that.
- 27:52Speaker 2: It's an exhibition game. That was what it was. So again,
- 27:57Speaker 2: lots of moments enjoy the year. Uh, there'll be one
- 28:01Speaker 2: that will probably never forget.
- 28:03Speaker 4: So that being said, I'm gonna be straight up to
- 28:08Speaker 4: you about cried when they lost Iowa, about did well
- 28:12Speaker 4: you do?
- 28:12Speaker 5: Cried a lot of things.
- 28:13Speaker 4: So I almost I mean there was a lot of.
- 28:16Speaker 5: There is I get you here, there were there were
- 28:19Speaker 5: a lot of people that had the same reaction. So
- 28:21Speaker 5: I mean yeah, I mean there was.
- 28:23Speaker 6: A time, there was the last time you're gonna see
- 28:26Speaker 6: Sam Hoiberg and you know, yeah, I get it.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Did you always watch the locker room talk with bred after?
- 28:35Speaker 5: Very good? Yeap, very good?
- 28:37Speaker 4: Yeah, we can all agree. We can all agree though.
- 28:43Speaker 4: Thank god Thursday games over for a while. I don't
- 28:45Speaker 4: need know the Thursday like that true for my body.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I've had several in a row two so that was
- 28:53Speaker 2: it been been.
- 28:56Speaker 5: It'll be good to have a full week back here.
- 28:58Speaker 4: I guess. Yeah. It feels like a blur in the
- 29:01Speaker 4: last two weeks. It really does.
- 29:05Speaker 5: Before we get to football. And we'll finish up with football.
- 29:08Speaker 2: I do want to shout out here mentioned the Husker
- 29:11Speaker 2: baseball and softball teams and the success are having. I
- 29:15Speaker 2: went to one game against Michigan State for the baseball team.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I've watched a couple of softball games. I watched the
- 29:21Speaker 2: other night the UCLA game on Friday night where we
- 29:24Speaker 2: one by one. You know, UCLA was a top ten team.
- 29:31Speaker 2: We are now up in the softball rankings to number
- 29:34Speaker 2: four in the country, just behind Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma.
- 29:39Speaker 2: So softball team's doing a lot of really good things
- 29:42Speaker 2: right now.
- 29:43Speaker 5: I mean, the highest that they've been in.
- 29:46Speaker 4: A long time.
- 29:46Speaker 5: I mean, have we ever been this highly ranked in softball?
- 29:51Speaker 5: I have never argued that, I would guess not.
- 29:54Speaker 2: And baseball teams in the top twenty five as well,
- 29:57Speaker 2: sit at the number nineteen they are playing and as
- 30:00Speaker 2: we speak right.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Now, bottom of it was six and they're and Nebraska
- 30:05Speaker 3: is up to six to zero.
- 30:06Speaker 2: So Creighton's not having the best of years, but Nebraska's
- 30:12Speaker 2: work do some good things on the field in both
- 30:15Speaker 2: baseball and softball, and I think, you know, when it
- 30:18Speaker 2: comes to postseason, and unlike basketball and football, baseball and softball,
- 30:23Speaker 2: those seasons fly by like crazy.
- 30:25Speaker 6: I just looked at the softball record and I could
- 30:28Speaker 6: not believe that they're they're they're twenty six and six already, Like.
- 30:32Speaker 2: It's like wow, because he play so many games, and
- 30:35Speaker 2: your first twenty or your first fifteen, you don't play
- 30:38Speaker 2: at home because it's too cold, so you're playing on
- 30:40Speaker 2: the road, and they're I mean, they're already into Big
- 30:43Speaker 2: Ten play here.
- 30:44Speaker 5: Both both teams. Both teams goals here.
- 30:47Speaker 2: You know, obviously is going to be hosting a regional UH,
- 30:51Speaker 2: which goes to the top sixteen seeds in the country.
- 30:56Speaker 5: You know, softball is obviously well inside that mark.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Baseball's climbing to get there UH and winning your conference tournament,
- 31:02Speaker 2: which we've done the past two years for baseball UH
- 31:06Speaker 2: really does help that and I think we're in a
- 31:08Speaker 2: good position right now to do so.
- 31:10Speaker 5: Just got to keep building. I think the pitching is
- 31:12Speaker 5: from what I've.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Been reading and hearing, has been the big improvement from
- 31:16Speaker 2: last year to this year. And figuring out a good
- 31:18Speaker 2: rotation the bullpen has been a lot better. We, like
- 31:24Speaker 2: I said, our goal is to get probably a host
- 31:27Speaker 2: the regional. If you can do that, you know, you
- 31:29Speaker 2: like your chances with the Husker crowd at Haymarket Park
- 31:32Speaker 2: and at a bowling stadium, and then you see where
- 31:35Speaker 2: it goes from there.
- 31:35Speaker 5: You know, Huskers have not made the Callege Room Series.
- 31:38Speaker 2: And in quite some time I heard I heard some
- 31:43Speaker 2: people talk about the Oklahoma City game and comparing it
- 31:46Speaker 2: to Husker moments, and you know, the people that were
- 31:49Speaker 2: alive in the nineties a couple of those games and
- 31:53Speaker 2: then the other one that I heard a lot was
- 31:55Speaker 2: the Caullege Room Series appearance that the Huskers made in
- 31:59Speaker 2: the early two thousand. So I think that that's one
- 32:02Speaker 2: of those things that the sport that I think most
- 32:06Speaker 2: people would say baseball is not the most fun sport
- 32:08Speaker 2: to watch, but it's one of those things that you
- 32:10Speaker 2: can really fill a stadium and have some fun. It's
- 32:14Speaker 2: more laid back. I'm thinking back to the Big Ten
- 32:17Speaker 2: championship in Omaha, how many years ago? That was just
- 32:22Speaker 2: two years ago that we filled that stadium. Yeah, I
- 32:25Speaker 2: think last year maybe it was colder or something. It
- 32:27Speaker 2: wasn't I can't.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Remember what it was really cold.
- 32:29Speaker 5: Yeah, but there's one that two years ago.
- 32:31Speaker 2: I remember going up there and the championship game was there,
- 32:34Speaker 2: and that stadium I remember going to it for sixty
- 32:37Speaker 2: bucks a ticket and got in.
- 32:38Speaker 5: It was just packed.
- 32:41Speaker 2: So again, it is exciting stuff going on there for
- 32:45Speaker 2: those two programs. Something to continue to follow along here
- 32:48Speaker 2: over the next couple of months.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I think we can officially say we're not a football school.
- 32:53Speaker 3: I sometimes I say it was a got volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball, men's.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Women's bowling is really good, but it's bowling.
- 33:01Speaker 6: They've historically always been really good. So the only program
- 33:04Speaker 6: that is not not doing any sort of national performance.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Here is uh, the one that has the most money.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Let's go there.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Then let's let's finish off this pod here talking about football.
- 33:21Speaker 5: Here's my opening comment on the football program right now.
- 33:25Speaker 2: And we haven't talked about them at all really for
- 33:28Speaker 2: the last several weeks or months since that Las Vegas
- 33:34Speaker 2: gol lost to Utah. I think, and whether people want
- 33:40Speaker 2: to admit it or not, apathy is setting in for
- 33:45Speaker 2: a lot of people at various stages. Apathy is not
- 33:49Speaker 2: something that all of a sudden you just care a
- 33:51Speaker 2: bunch of them you stop caring, and that's not that's
- 33:53Speaker 2: not that's not what happens. But everyone's at a different
- 33:59Speaker 2: stage in the care or their interest level of luscer football.
- 34:03Speaker 2: And when you say apathy is not if you are
- 34:06Speaker 2: still talking about it and you're still upset about it
- 34:09Speaker 2: and you're still emotionally invested about it, you don't have apathy.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Apathy is truly the lack of caring about something and
- 34:17Speaker 2: you're just doesn't provide you with any emotion one way
- 34:21Speaker 2: or the other. I think that's setting in and is
- 34:24Speaker 2: impacting a lot more people this year than.
- 34:30Speaker 5: Previous years. And yes, the spring game, you see the
- 34:33Speaker 5: numbers and the lowest spring game.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Tools in two thousand. I'm really i am, But I'm
- 34:38Speaker 2: not talking about that whole thing. I'm just talking about
- 34:40Speaker 2: the general interest right now of the success of the
- 34:44Speaker 2: football program and the conversation around it. Basketball has had
- 34:51Speaker 2: a very big impact on that. Many media writers, sports
- 34:55Speaker 2: writers where all they would talk about in February and
- 34:58Speaker 2: March are basketball kind of over.
- 35:00Speaker 5: Well, let's move on to spring football.
- 35:02Speaker 2: On top of that, Spring football started the earliest it's
- 35:05Speaker 2: ever started.
- 35:05Speaker 5: We're already done with it and it's not even April.
- 35:09Speaker 2: I just think that there's just this goes to speak
- 35:12Speaker 2: to how many of us watch the spring game, let
- 35:15Speaker 2: alone go to it like.
- 35:19Speaker 5: Part of that. Yeah, two days after.
- 35:21Speaker 2: The the IOWA lost the Sweet sixteen. That probably has
- 35:25Speaker 2: a lot to do with it. Just people are kind
- 35:27Speaker 2: of tiring more now. But at the same time, it's
- 35:29Speaker 2: just like like, Okay, I don't care. Yeah, it's it's apathy.
- 35:35Speaker 2: It's it's not complete apathy. It's not like I'm I've
- 35:40Speaker 2: completely disabandoned Husker football, but like I almost forgot to
- 35:44Speaker 2: review my season tickets. I got a text reminder on
- 35:47Speaker 2: the last day that says your season ticket renewal, Today's.
- 35:50Speaker 5: Your last day.
- 35:51Speaker 2: If you don't do it now, your tickets will be released.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I'm like, oh crap, Like I just completely forgot about it.
- 35:56Speaker 2: And yes I renewed my season tickets. But it was
- 36:00Speaker 2: one of those things that it wasn't like I was
- 36:01Speaker 2: on top of it. I have been in previous years.
- 36:03Speaker 2: I just it's a level of apathy that I just
- 36:06Speaker 2: is setting in a little bit.
- 36:11Speaker 6: I mean, I didn't even remember. I didn't even know this.
- 36:13Speaker 6: I like not even like, oh, I didn't know the
- 36:15Speaker 6: spring games going on this weekend. I did not know
- 36:17Speaker 6: the spring game was happening last week Tuesday, Like like, oh,
- 36:20Speaker 6: you go to the spring game?
- 36:21Speaker 3: Like what are you talking about? Man? Basketball plays on Thursday?
- 36:26Speaker 3: Like I I And.
- 36:30Speaker 5: Yes there were.
- 36:31Speaker 2: But we can't do this because it didn't happen this way.
- 36:34Speaker 2: But let's try to take basketball out of it and
- 36:39Speaker 2: picture your your interest level of the conversation, right it
- 36:42Speaker 2: was when when nobody's talking about it and there's something
- 36:45Speaker 2: else going on that becomes as important because of the
- 36:49Speaker 2: excitement around it. Naturally, Yeah, you're gonna put something like
- 36:51Speaker 2: it to the back seat. Like that's even if we
- 36:54Speaker 2: were coming off a top twenty five season, football in
- 36:56Speaker 2: the spring would have gotten put on the back seat
- 36:58Speaker 2: because of what basketball did to a certain extent. But
- 37:04Speaker 2: now it's like, again, you talk about our The only
- 37:08Speaker 2: reason why I know anything about our spring is because
- 37:10Speaker 2: I've listened to a couple of podcasts that are now
- 37:12Speaker 2: catching up on football because they haven't been talking about it,
- 37:15Speaker 2: and so now I'm familiarizing myself with where everything's at,
- 37:21Speaker 2: which is not making me happy because it's just a
- 37:24Speaker 2: bunch of bullshit come back.
- 37:26Speaker 5: So that's just all fun. But anyway, I just I
- 37:30Speaker 5: think that that's a thing to not like, Dak.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I obviously basketball is going on, but like you always
- 37:36Speaker 2: wanted to love to go to the spring game, and
- 37:38Speaker 2: you even get asked to go to the spring game
- 37:39Speaker 2: and you're like, Nope, not a chance.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Seeh I like the spring festivities. It's usually a lot
- 37:44Speaker 4: of fun going out around the town on the spring game.
- 37:46Speaker 4: It's like it feels like an almost Saturday spring game
- 37:49Speaker 4: or not spring game. No almost Saturday fall football game
- 37:53Speaker 4: usually for a spring game. But I saw videos and
- 37:55Speaker 4: stuff downtown. There was nobody down there, nobody like celebrating.
- 37:59Speaker 4: I forgot even on Saturday. Someone's like, you watch the
- 38:02Speaker 4: spring games like now, and I'm like, no one's the
- 38:04Speaker 4: start for Good started eleven But but yeah, it's like
- 38:08Speaker 4: and truly, I did not care at all to even
- 38:11Speaker 4: think think about that or football. And that has a
- 38:13Speaker 4: lot to do with basketball, and I I have thought
- 38:20Speaker 4: about that. What if basketball wasn't doing this with what
- 38:22Speaker 4: people been in on the spring game or's been on
- 38:25Speaker 4: a football team right now, I don't. I think the
- 38:28Speaker 4: hype would have been a lot more. But like you said,
- 38:29Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of people just kind of
- 38:32Speaker 4: out of football in general right now. It's kind of
- 38:34Speaker 4: it's another it's a proven right now.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't.
- 38:45Speaker 2: It's spring game thoughts, like what what?
- 38:48Speaker 5: What are some of your guys watch it?
- 38:50Speaker 2: But what are some of your takeaways or thoughts if
- 38:53Speaker 2: you even have any from the spring game?
- 38:58Speaker 3: Uh?
- 39:02Speaker 2: God, I really got a fulls of strings here for Okay,
- 39:05Speaker 2: Dak Calandria, what are your thoughts on Anthony Calandria.
- 39:11Speaker 4: I think he's gonna be electric, He's gonna he's gonna
- 39:15Speaker 4: throw a lot of picks this season. He is, but
- 39:17Speaker 4: he's gonna throw a lot of because he he doesn't
- 39:19Speaker 4: give a crap where he throws that ball. It's gonna
- 39:21Speaker 4: be exciting and it's gonna be like what are you
- 39:23Speaker 4: doing for a lot of the season. And I think
- 39:25Speaker 4: I do think he's gonna be a good quarterback.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Now.
- 39:29Speaker 4: What I do like, which is it's gonna come expect me,
- 39:32Speaker 4: is the old line looks big this year. And we've
- 39:35Speaker 4: we've heard I heard a little bit going in the
- 39:37Speaker 4: spring game like, oh, they're big and they they're physical.
- 39:39Speaker 4: They do look bigger than normal. Now, not trying to
- 39:44Speaker 4: get any hype going, but that's one takeaway. Have I
- 39:46Speaker 4: thought was the old line looks bigger. You can't think
- 39:49Speaker 4: of any from the spring game, but I thought they
- 39:52Speaker 4: looked bigger this year. Now we'll see.
- 40:00Speaker 6: And yeah, Palandrea, I was twelve or nineteen for however
- 40:03Speaker 6: many yards with one interception and two touchdowns. Again, it's
- 40:08Speaker 6: we've I mean, we've talked about every spring game. It's like, well,
- 40:11Speaker 6: is that because our defense is good or is our
- 40:13Speaker 6: offense bad? Or you know, is this there could be
- 40:17Speaker 6: a middle grad or we're not good at either And
- 40:19Speaker 6: we're playing ourselves, so it's mediocre offense, it's mediocre defense.
- 40:24Speaker 3: I mean, I feel I feel like the.
- 40:25Speaker 6: Big takeaway was just the running backs and who was
- 40:28Speaker 6: getting the carries and who you saw. I mean, I
- 40:30Speaker 6: hadn't even heard of Jamal Rule until the spring game,
- 40:34Speaker 6: and now he sounds like.
- 40:35Speaker 4: He's actually is he related to Matt Rule?
- 40:38Speaker 3: No? No, age, Okay.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Did I have you convinced that he was his cousin
- 40:44Speaker 2: or his nephew because I.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Told you that I truly did not know.
- 40:52Speaker 3: And also, you know, they weren't tackling the quarterbacks, and
- 40:54Speaker 3: you know Calandria is supposed to be this mobile quarterback,
- 40:56Speaker 3: but he had like fifteen yards twelve We're on one row.
- 41:00Speaker 3: So I don't know, I will say, I just I
- 41:04Speaker 3: looked up a list of spring game attendance and this
- 41:07Speaker 3: articles from twenty twenty three. So, but the lowest one.
- 41:13Speaker 6: Excluding ones that were limited due to COVID, was fifty
- 41:18Speaker 6: some thousand, fifty four thousand, fifty five thousand. We had
- 41:25Speaker 6: twenty thousand on Saturday.
- 41:26Speaker 2: So and then what's funny about that whole big Calandria
- 41:30Speaker 2: mentioned how crazy I'm many Jesus for a spring game
- 41:33Speaker 2: like he thought, he thought it was awesome how many
- 41:35Speaker 2: people were there. So that's that's the that's the what
- 41:39Speaker 2: he as, what he's used to, right, Like the types
- 41:42Speaker 2: of games, he's one of those guys that you know,
- 41:47Speaker 2: the called the pressure or the big ten, Like he's
- 41:51Speaker 2: gonna do what he's gonna do just because of from
- 41:53Speaker 2: what we know.
- 41:54Speaker 5: He's just said, he's a risk taker and he's high risk.
- 41:56Speaker 2: High reward and he's I heard someone call him a
- 41:59Speaker 2: gun slinger.
- 42:00Speaker 5: Like there's frozen cons to that.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Right.
- 42:06Speaker 2: We had the extreme version of that with Jeff Simms,
- 42:08Speaker 2: and there wasn't many pros We'll put it that way
- 42:13Speaker 2: with how.
- 42:13Speaker 5: He turned out.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Now, obviously, I you know, you hope and you think
- 42:16Speaker 2: that Clandry is going to turn out a lot better
- 42:18Speaker 2: than Jeff Simms did it Nebraska.
- 42:22Speaker 5: But I do think that's that's what you're gonna get
- 42:24Speaker 5: with him.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Uh. The big takeaway for me for the little bit
- 42:30Speaker 2: that I watched, you know, I watched moments of it
- 42:33Speaker 2: and it caught my eye enough for me to be like,
- 42:36Speaker 2: what the heck are we doing? And then I've heard
- 42:39Speaker 2: people talk about it is the tempo that we showed
- 42:42Speaker 2: and some of the no huddle, hurry up style offense
- 42:46Speaker 2: that we ran in that first half, especially with a
- 42:49Speaker 2: couple of our with Clandria and Latif, I that that
- 42:56Speaker 2: always scares me.
- 43:00Speaker 3: There's a lot of times to score.
- 43:01Speaker 2: I just I that's not the style of football that
- 43:04Speaker 2: I think that we need to be playing.
- 43:06Speaker 5: I I don't I don't want to say it, but
- 43:10Speaker 5: I'll go back to our good old friends of the East.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Like, I love the way Iowa plays football and it's
- 43:15Speaker 2: not pretty, but guess what it gets some winning games
- 43:18Speaker 2: every year, eight or nine wins and once you get
- 43:20Speaker 2: to that point, and I think you can take that
- 43:22Speaker 2: as a base and build off of it. Even though
- 43:24Speaker 2: Iowa's never done that. They they've stayed there forever. But
- 43:29Speaker 2: I do think that wins you a lot of games.
- 43:31Speaker 2: How the basketball team was built this year and got
- 43:34Speaker 2: them to where they did, just that that's the Midwestern, ugly,
- 43:39Speaker 2: you know, farm tough way of winning games. And I
- 43:42Speaker 2: don't think running it a no huddle, hurry up offense
- 43:45Speaker 2: fits that.
- 43:46Speaker 5: DNA.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Now, I'm not saying that's not it can't work. It
- 43:49Speaker 2: obviously has had success in years. We've also had the
- 43:53Speaker 2: conversation though, why it's kind of gone away, like you
- 43:56Speaker 2: you know, it had it, it was a trend, it
- 43:58Speaker 2: was a fad there for a while or everybody was
- 44:00Speaker 2: doing it. And the last couple of years, how many
- 44:03Speaker 2: teams are running the true no huddle offense.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Not one.
- 44:10Speaker 2: No, it's not something that I expect that we're gonna
- 44:12Speaker 2: run it at our base, but it is good to
- 44:14Speaker 2: have it in and and and and and work. Maybe
- 44:17Speaker 2: you know, maybe maybe the thought process is being optimistic,
- 44:19Speaker 2: is work at it now in the spring, so that
- 44:22Speaker 2: you know when you need it in a in a
- 44:24Speaker 2: three minute situation, when you're down, when you're down a touchdown,
- 44:28Speaker 2: you know you you you got to go to it
- 44:30Speaker 2: and you practice it a lot. And and that's what
- 44:32Speaker 2: we're doing now in the spring. Maybe that's the thought
- 44:34Speaker 2: concept there. And and I think that's a good one
- 44:37Speaker 2: to have. But I caught my eye. I did like
- 44:43Speaker 2: the format of it where I just you couldn't you
- 44:44Speaker 2: couldn't tell, you know, you're playing your ones, your two's,
- 44:48Speaker 2: your your four strings, like who's you know, who's Nebraska,
- 44:51Speaker 2: Who's Huskers? I mean, I don't know who, don't really care.
- 44:55Speaker 2: It's hard to judge the offense defense one way or
- 44:58Speaker 2: the other. Based off of that, you just start to
- 45:01Speaker 2: maybe see and hear names the people that you're gonna
- 45:05Speaker 2: expect to hear in the fall.
- 45:07Speaker 6: I mean, if you look at their that was probably
- 45:10Speaker 6: the most interesting, I should say most interesting thing.
- 45:12Speaker 3: But aside from the.
- 45:14Speaker 6: Running back room, you know, you kind of got an
- 45:17Speaker 6: idea of who right now they expect, who would who
- 45:19Speaker 6: would be their starters right now? And you know, we
- 45:23Speaker 6: had the three offensive lineman transfers, like the offensive line
- 45:26Speaker 6: that that was our starting offensive line that we see.
- 45:30Speaker 2: And and you don't think that that probably will change,
- 45:32Speaker 2: right There's other guys that could give him a push,
- 45:34Speaker 2: but you.
- 45:35Speaker 5: Have a pretty good idea. If you're going to pay
- 45:36Speaker 5: money and.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Get these guys from the portal, you're probably gonna start them,
- 45:40Speaker 2: especially guys that aren't freshman or sophing. You know, they're
- 45:42Speaker 2: they're guys coming in with experience at some major schools.
- 45:46Speaker 2: You know, Black from Iowa State, Baba Lade from South Carolina.
- 45:52Speaker 5: Who's the other.
- 45:53Speaker 3: One but Bengaa.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yeah, like I think there's you know guys that those
- 46:03Speaker 2: guys are expected to play. Pritchet's going to come back
- 46:05Speaker 2: in and play. So yeah, I think take away what
- 46:09Speaker 2: you want from the from the line play. I think
- 46:11Speaker 2: that's something that you'll just continue to hammer home. Of
- 46:14Speaker 2: the offensive line and then the defensive line, which we
- 46:16Speaker 2: haven't talked about either, right, how important that is and
- 46:19Speaker 2: not just the Big Ten, but just in football in
- 46:21Speaker 2: general and getting guys to have success on those two
- 46:27Speaker 2: areas first, because all the conversation is going to be
- 46:30Speaker 2: around the skill players, the quarterback, the running backs, receivers
- 46:34Speaker 2: that we got. Yet it's going to start in the
- 46:36Speaker 2: trenches no matter what offense, no matter what defense you're running,
- 46:41Speaker 2: and if you don't have those pieces, no matter what
- 46:43Speaker 2: you're trying to do, you're going to be playing from
- 46:45Speaker 2: behind because you're going to try to mask up what's
- 46:48Speaker 2: the lack they're upfront. So you can be at least
- 46:51Speaker 2: solid at minimum, if not above average or really good
- 46:55Speaker 2: in the trenches. And then yeah you can you can
- 46:58Speaker 2: start to do some different things in the back half.
- 47:01Speaker 5: But that's where it's going to begin with.
- 47:03Speaker 2: And yeah, I don't want to hype anybody up or
- 47:05Speaker 2: hype it up, as you know, sounds like we're bigger.
- 47:07Speaker 2: That bigger doesn't always mean better. On the on the
- 47:10Speaker 2: line play that's that's true. It can, but it doesn't
- 47:14Speaker 2: always mean that either.
- 47:17Speaker 6: That Yeah, the defensive people, it was like all new names.
- 47:22Speaker 6: It felt like there was hardly anyone that got significant
- 47:25Speaker 6: snaps from last year outside of Cam went Haart.
- 47:27Speaker 3: It felt like him, Rarey Bean Poppo. I guess.
- 47:29Speaker 4: But and I'll take a what no one no one
- 47:33Speaker 4: looks out of the game hyped about t J Latif
- 47:36Speaker 4: one of this is the least when I tuned in,
- 47:38Speaker 4: he's one of five and a half. That's horrific in
- 47:40Speaker 4: a spring.
- 47:41Speaker 6: Game, man, you really want ad on t J. This
- 47:45Speaker 6: has been a one year What do you mean you
- 47:49Speaker 6: the last spring game you're like that t J. Latief
- 47:52Speaker 6: guy might be pushing over for his starting position. Then
- 47:55Speaker 6: all are we gonna put t J Latif in? And
- 47:58Speaker 6: then he starts to get as U c. L A
- 47:59Speaker 6: goes one twelve, you're like twelve, man, this teacher, and
- 48:02Speaker 6: then this man's not seen. I'm telling you right now,
- 48:06Speaker 6: he's not starting a game where we don't have an
- 48:07Speaker 6: injured starter in his career at Nebraska.
- 48:11Speaker 3: Calling it right now?
- 48:13Speaker 4: Wow, I mean, there's here's my feeling about the football
- 48:17Speaker 4: team right now. Is I am so out on rule.
- 48:20Speaker 4: I don't know where you guys see with him, Like
- 48:22Speaker 4: you guys are out on Hoiberg like should keep I
- 48:24Speaker 4: think I'm totally out on him. No matter he has
- 48:27Speaker 4: to win eight or nine games next year, and it
- 48:29Speaker 4: has to do a lot that he's so full of
- 48:31Speaker 4: shit in his press conference and stuff saying that this
- 48:33Speaker 4: team's oh, he just he's the best car says men
- 48:36Speaker 4: you'll ever meet. He will say you on anything, this
- 48:39Speaker 4: team's great, blah blah blah blah. You know what you
- 48:41Speaker 4: want my rules, shut up and go play.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I will say this too, and I think this is
- 48:48Speaker 2: a very true thing. One of the things that I
- 48:50Speaker 2: think has heard our football program is the attention and
- 48:53Speaker 2: the focus and the pressure, the expectations, all that that
- 48:57Speaker 2: gets thrown on you buy media, fan base both nationally
- 49:03Speaker 2: and locally, and your expectation to go out and perform.
- 49:09Speaker 3: It doesn't hurt Outabama.
- 49:11Speaker 2: What's what's great about it this year? And I think
- 49:14Speaker 2: this is a big part of when you're playing. When
- 49:16Speaker 2: you can play the underdog card and the role in
- 49:20Speaker 2: the locker room and and have that as your as
- 49:23Speaker 2: your mantra, I do think you can get a lot
- 49:27Speaker 2: out of your players, and that's I think a part
- 49:33Speaker 2: of the basketball team success. You know, there's there's little
- 49:36Speaker 2: to no expectations every year coming in with that team,
- 49:39Speaker 2: and they can play that card. Nobody expects us to this,
- 49:43Speaker 2: this and this, and you heard Fred say that several times. Right,
- 49:46Speaker 2: if we can kind of flip that and the football
- 49:48Speaker 2: team kind of start doing that. Now, the only way
- 49:51Speaker 2: you can be an underdog is if people doubt you
- 49:53Speaker 2: and don't believe that you can do that. That's the
- 49:55Speaker 2: problem at Nebraska. No one usually doubts us because we
- 49:59Speaker 2: all talk ourselves up and we think we're going to
- 50:01Speaker 2: be really good, and so then there's hype, and then
- 50:03Speaker 2: there's a tension with the basketball season team doing what
- 50:06Speaker 2: they did. Like we said, there's no hype, there's very
- 50:10Speaker 2: little talk. You are all doing everything under the radar.
- 50:14Speaker 2: In fact, with the spring game being even earlier, which
- 50:16Speaker 2: I think i've heard that maybe was part of the
- 50:18Speaker 2: real strategy, is to try to get everything done early,
- 50:21Speaker 2: to try to stay under the radar. Right like that,
- 50:24Speaker 2: the optimism and hope is maybe he's kind of starting
- 50:27Speaker 2: to figure that out. Just to shut shut the hell
- 50:29Speaker 2: up and quit blabber in your mouth about this and
- 50:32Speaker 2: this and this and just perform and win. Like maybe
- 50:36Speaker 2: if we want to look at it with an optimistic side,
- 50:38Speaker 2: that is what's happening in the football program right now,
- 50:41Speaker 2: and I will say will lead to success and and
- 50:44Speaker 2: that I hope that's what a lesson was learned here
- 50:48Speaker 2: over the last couple of months.
- 50:50Speaker 5: Maybe maybe not.
- 50:53Speaker 2: But but but then that makes you say, well, why
- 50:54Speaker 2: don't we why doesn't he do that all the time. Well,
- 50:57Speaker 2: like you said, Dak, I think he's a used car
- 50:59Speaker 2: sales and that's what he likes to and how he
- 51:01Speaker 2: likes to be.
- 51:01Speaker 5: But maybe he learned, Okay, we can't do that.
- 51:04Speaker 2: That's not gonna work. Like it's it's now or never.
- 51:06Speaker 2: We got to put our heads down and work our
- 51:08Speaker 2: ass off. And I'm with you right like if if
- 51:12Speaker 2: we if we can't turn the corner here soon, very soon,
- 51:14Speaker 2: as in this year, it's gonna be hard to continue
- 51:19Speaker 2: to really back the guy and support the vision that
- 51:21Speaker 2: he has for the program. Before you want to try
- 51:24Speaker 2: something else, try something new, Try a young a young
- 51:27Speaker 2: pup that has some has some life to him.
- 51:31Speaker 5: That that'd be my preference. I don't hope you'll ever
- 51:33Speaker 5: do that.
- 51:33Speaker 2: So I don't know, like not out on, not out
- 51:36Speaker 2: on Matt, but it's it's times. Time's slim here with
- 51:43Speaker 2: what you got to get done, and the schedule is
- 51:44Speaker 2: not in your favor either. Next year, you got some
- 51:48Speaker 2: things to prove that things are going in the right
- 51:51Speaker 2: way for you.
- 51:53Speaker 3: I personally hope we hire Mike McCarthy next year. I
- 51:57Speaker 3: think that's the fresh face.
- 51:58Speaker 2: That God, oh God, usually have seen dak in my
- 52:02Speaker 2: face for both like there's no way.
- 52:04Speaker 4: Serious, all right, I'm gonna go you real quick. I'll
- 52:07Speaker 4: be back. I mean, there's I hate him because he's
- 52:11Speaker 4: a packers, old packers, but anyway, yeah, I and I
- 52:17Speaker 4: do hope it works out for rule, just because I
- 52:19Speaker 4: don't think he's a douchebag or anything. I think I'm
- 52:23Speaker 4: just tired of hearing him hype up the team every year,
- 52:25Speaker 4: like we're in me this great stuff. And I think
- 52:26Speaker 4: fans are finally now, okay, ask me in August. It's
- 52:31Speaker 4: July August, fans are being all over it. But right
- 52:33Speaker 4: now fans are actually not hyped up, like they're not
- 52:35Speaker 4: believing it for once, there's no one's drinking the kool
- 52:39Speaker 4: aid yet.
- 52:39Speaker 5: Well, and we said that's a natural.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Response of the basketball team being really good and then
- 52:48Speaker 2: nobody knowing anything.
- 52:49Speaker 5: About him yet.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Like like I said, we said, this is our first
- 52:52Speaker 2: time kind of hearing about everything and our first chance
- 52:54Speaker 2: to even know what's who the players are. And in
- 52:57Speaker 2: an era of the of the transfer portal and I
- 53:00Speaker 2: where yeah, you're going to see new faces year in
- 53:02Speaker 2: and year out until about something changes, Like there's gonna
- 53:07Speaker 2: be a lot of new things, and you're going to
- 53:10Speaker 2: be able to if you want to drink the kool
- 53:12Speaker 2: aid on these new teams and faces because they're new,
- 53:17Speaker 2: you don't know what to expect that you can be
- 53:19Speaker 2: as excited as you want on.
- 53:21Speaker 5: Every single one of them.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Like you're going to be able to do that if
- 53:24Speaker 2: you want to as a fan, and we're the best
- 53:27Speaker 2: at it at Nebraska in the media of doing that.
- 53:31Speaker 5: So like I said, you're right, Dick, I don't know
- 53:34Speaker 5: what when it comes by.
- 53:35Speaker 2: I think people also know the schedule that we're at,
- 53:37Speaker 2: and I think people also are not forgetting how the
- 53:41Speaker 2: season ended last year with some pretty bad losses in
- 53:46Speaker 2: some pretty bad ways too, the way those losses happened.
- 53:49Speaker 5: So I do think that that's all going to be.
- 53:53Speaker 5: Time will tell.
- 53:54Speaker 2: It's not like the football team's done now and isn't
- 53:56Speaker 2: coming back till July. Right, They're still doing stuff from
- 53:59Speaker 2: now till July. They they might have a little bit
- 54:01Speaker 2: of break, but they're gonna be still the off season
- 54:05Speaker 2: training and everything that they do, and I'm sure we'll
- 54:07Speaker 2: hear stuff about that as we go.
- 54:10Speaker 4: So no, yeah, it just sucks with basketballs over because
- 54:17Speaker 4: now we got to listen to the freaking hype train
- 54:18Speaker 4: the rest of the summer.
- 54:22Speaker 5: If you want to. If you want to, you don't
- 54:25Speaker 5: have to.
- 54:28Speaker 4: It hasn't taken up yet, but give it a couple
- 54:29Speaker 4: of months, it'll be all aboard the hype train.
- 54:33Speaker 6: Do you guys remember Chasing three and how it ended
- 54:35Speaker 6: halfway through a year.
- 54:36Speaker 3: Because it's like, oh, we're not.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and funny, there's so many things awesome, I'm glad
- 54:44Speaker 2: you brought that up like that, that are such an
- 54:47Speaker 2: awesome thing and are such a like this is great,
- 54:50Speaker 2: and then they stop and nobody talks about it because
- 54:54Speaker 2: it's like nobody's like, oh shit, that was stupid, like
- 54:57Speaker 2: that Matt Rule's podcast, right, Like there's so many that
- 55:01Speaker 2: I forgot about.
- 55:02Speaker 3: That is how's Rules still going on?
- 55:05Speaker 4: I couldn't tell you.
- 55:06Speaker 5: People don't know.
- 55:07Speaker 2: There's so many things that everybody gets so excited about
- 55:10Speaker 2: and like this is the greatest thing ever and this
- 55:12Speaker 2: is well, and then when something goes away, they like say, Okay,
- 55:16Speaker 2: I'm embarrassed. I said that, I'm not even going to
- 55:18Speaker 2: talk about it anymore. Or they just completely forget because
- 55:21Speaker 2: all they do is consume what's out there, and when.
- 55:25Speaker 5: They go away, they go away.
- 55:29Speaker 4: Stay away from the basketball team att Rule.
- 55:32Speaker 6: Yeah, their season finale, how's the Rule season finale happened
- 55:38Speaker 6: in December, so I don't know if that was a
- 55:40Speaker 6: series or just the season.
- 55:43Speaker 3: Three point nine rating though out of two or nine ratings.
- 55:45Speaker 3: People love.
- 55:50Speaker 5: People love coach Rule, Dak would you give it go
- 55:52Speaker 5: Go give go?
- 55:53Speaker 2: Give it?
- 55:53Speaker 5: A rating?
- 55:55Speaker 4: Probably zero? And I haven't even listened to it yet. God,
- 55:59Speaker 4: he's kid talk.
- 56:03Speaker 2: He can talk good good, definitely good speaker, and and
- 56:07Speaker 2: I think if you do it the right way, that
- 56:09Speaker 2: can help your program, but it also can hurt.
- 56:16Speaker 5: In various ways too.
- 56:17Speaker 4: So there's one more player I want to talk about
- 56:19Speaker 4: Spring Game JA Cory Barney looks electric.
- 56:21Speaker 5: He does he always has.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Yeah, he's gonna be a big weapon this year. I
- 56:26Speaker 4: do do think that.
- 56:27Speaker 2: If they actually use him, start start drinking the cool Yeah.
- 56:32Speaker 5: Here we go.
- 56:33Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, I'll shut up. All right, good season, boys,
- 56:35Speaker 4: see you later.
- 56:38Speaker 3: Listen.
- 56:39Speaker 6: You know what's gonna happen if we're talking now, But
- 56:41Speaker 6: by the time August rolls around, we're gonna be so
- 56:43Speaker 6: excited for college football. I know we're gonna be slurfing
- 56:47Speaker 6: up the content where but we're gonna you know, it'll
- 56:49Speaker 6: be a little through pestimistic lens, but we're gonna be
- 56:51Speaker 6: watching it all be like, did you guys see that
- 56:53Speaker 6: press conference?
- 56:54Speaker 3: But we watched it.
- 56:57Speaker 2: Yeah, bring the whole conversation full circle into the apathy
- 57:02Speaker 2: and everything too.
- 57:04Speaker 5: There is.
- 57:06Speaker 2: There's gonna be interest when there's nothing going on in
- 57:08Speaker 2: the month of July, Like there never is every year
- 57:11Speaker 2: that you're just waiting for college trouble to start back
- 57:14Speaker 2: up again. And I will say, obviously, Nebraska football is
- 57:18Speaker 2: a big piece of that for all of us, considering
- 57:21Speaker 2: we're doing a podcast on it, so like, yeah, we're
- 57:25Speaker 2: gonna listen to that and be a lot more attentive
- 57:28Speaker 2: to do. But I think everybody's frames and lenses are
- 57:30Speaker 2: going to be a little bit different listening to it,
- 57:32Speaker 2: and I think that Coach Rule is smart enough to
- 57:35Speaker 2: understand that too.
- 57:37Speaker 5: I'd listened to him in the spring game a little bit.
- 57:40Speaker 2: I think his his selling is a little bit different.
- 57:45Speaker 2: I got a different, little different tone from him.
- 57:49Speaker 5: Than like what we've heard in the past.
- 57:51Speaker 2: So we'll just see what that what happens here, Like
- 57:54Speaker 2: I said, over the next few months here as we
- 57:55Speaker 2: take some time off, and we'll be back in the
- 58:01Speaker 2: fall for season eight, where we're gonna be doing stuff
- 58:04Speaker 2: a little things a little bit differently. Here on the podcast,
- 58:08Speaker 2: we'll be doing a daily podcast versus doing our twice
- 58:12Speaker 2: a week episode.
- 58:13Speaker 5: Try to keep it short, keep it sweet, to a
- 58:16Speaker 5: specific topic or a point.
- 58:19Speaker 2: It may not it may be all three of us,
- 58:21Speaker 2: maybe one of us, two of us at the time,
- 58:23Speaker 2: but we will be having a daily podcast out there
- 58:25Speaker 2: for you to listen to on your drive to work.
- 58:28Speaker 2: You're eight am at the office during your workout. I
- 58:33Speaker 2: don't know where else people listen to podcasts.
- 58:37Speaker 3: Right, where's the wust place you've listened to a podcast?
- 58:40Speaker 3: That's the better question.
- 58:47Speaker 2: I mean, I do it now at the grocery store,
- 58:48Speaker 2: Like yeah, put it, put a headphone in while you're
- 58:52Speaker 2: getting groceries, like I've done.
- 58:53Speaker 5: I do that now sometimes.
- 58:54Speaker 2: And so there's so many out there, a lot of contentespecially.
- 59:00Speaker 5: Huff Hufter Sports, a lot of Huffer podcasts out there.
- 59:03Speaker 4: So I can't wait for the hype train and we
- 59:05Speaker 4: start five and zero in the Indiana comes to Lincoln
- 59:07Speaker 4: and we get our ass just smoked. And I'll be
- 59:13Speaker 4: all aboard the hype hype tream too. I know it
- 59:15Speaker 4: will be, but oh, I'm gonna try not to this year.
- 59:20Speaker 2: We'll see, all right, I'll wrap up season seven, have
- 59:27Speaker 2: a good summer.
- 59:29Speaker 3: Go Big Red, g v.
- 59:31Speaker 4: R, Go Big Grid Freak
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: An inst
