- 0:00Speaker 1: But when it comes to Sinestro being waterboarded, I didn't

- 1:39Speaker 3: a lot of things need to be addressed, but we'll
- 1:41Speaker 3: get to that later.
- 1:42Speaker 8: First of all, this has been months.
- 1:44Speaker 7: Yeah, still mad.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, still mad.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Well, I was thinking about that ish the other day.
- 1:50Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:52Speaker 3: We do have the because we are podcast. And since
- 1:54Speaker 3: it's three of them, I'm going to let themselves introduce themselves.
- 1:58Speaker 4: So please.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Gentlemen.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I'll start.
- 2:00Speaker 9: I'm Tren, also known as Tren Dollaz, a.k.a. Tren the Cancerian, a.k.a.
- 2:06Speaker 9: Nose Ring, a.k.a. Septum Poppy, a.k.a. Don't listen to him.
- 2:10Speaker 9: He look kind of gay.
- 2:11Speaker 2: That kind of shit.
- 2:15Speaker 9: All the comments that they give me on YouTube.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I'm glad to be here.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And I am Hod, the Queensiest of them all, a.k.a.
- 2:25Speaker 1: the Millennial Marvel, a.k.a. The scientist and the engineer, I
- 2:30Speaker 1: only came over to.
- 2:31Speaker 2: But what's going on, y'all? How's everybody doing? Welcome.
- 2:35Speaker 8: And my name is Damon, a.k.a. Dame Harvey, a.k.a. The
- 2:39Speaker 8: Bald Assassin, a.k.a. The Flyest and the Highest, a.k.a. MF Damon, a.k.a. Yes,
- 2:44Speaker 8: I have my own mustache under the fake one. How
- 2:46Speaker 8: you guys doing tonight?
- 2:48Speaker 3: This is probably the first time I've ever seen you
- 2:50Speaker 3: without the fake mustache. Stop saying that, man.
- 2:55Speaker 8: It is not true. I did not have the mustache
- 2:59Speaker 8: on before we started recording.
- 3:01Speaker 4: And we are here for the lanterns.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Don't even need to add an S to it. I
- 3:06Speaker 4: was always talking about that.
- 3:08Speaker 3: HBO got black people like they, you know, you can't
- 3:11Speaker 3: add an S to lanterns already because it's already a lantern.
- 3:13Speaker 6: So, you know, they knew who their audience was because
- 3:17Speaker 6: he's watching the show heavy.
- 3:18Speaker 4: There it is. You know what I mean?
- 3:20Speaker 3: And the finale dropped dirt and stars.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yes. Yes.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Can't add an S to that either. Dirt and stars.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And we're here with the, because we are podcast to
- 3:29Speaker 3: discuss it all the whole season, all that good stuff.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I know y'all been waiting on this one. Because we are,
- 3:36Speaker 3: you know, how do y'all feel?
- 3:38Speaker 4: Actually, no.
- 3:38Speaker 10: You know, because I mean, yeah, you know, it's we
- 3:45Speaker 10: have not really, you know, had this type of energy,
- 3:48Speaker 10: you know, I'd say, you know, on this podcast over
- 3:53Speaker 10: this season.
- 3:53Speaker 3: So I've heard things, you know, there seems to be
- 3:58Speaker 3: word on the street. that you were not the biggest
- 4:01Speaker 3: fan of Lance Hurts.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Oh, hell no, man. What the fuck, man?
- 4:07Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, man. Listen, that was a trick. I actually
- 4:10Speaker 9: am not that big a fan of cop shows, man.
- 4:13Speaker 9: I'm just not, like, into that genre whatsoever. I have
- 4:17Speaker 9: this thing where it's almost like a Bechdel test, but
- 4:21Speaker 9: I don't like watching shit where people always portray it
- 4:26Speaker 9: as cops. You know, I feel like there's a thing
- 4:28Speaker 9: happening a lot where a lot of black actors get
- 4:32Speaker 9: casted as cops. And that's when I'm like, a lot
- 4:34Speaker 9: of people back in the day was like, oh, you
- 4:36Speaker 9: got to watch when they get in that dress. I
- 4:38Speaker 9: was like, nah, you got to watch when they start
- 4:39Speaker 9: playing cops. When they in them law and order shows
- 4:41Speaker 9: and all that different stuff.
- 4:43Speaker 2: That's why I'm like, yeah.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Everybody's on law and order though.
- 4:45Speaker 3: That's like impossible not to be impossible.
- 4:47Speaker 9: I know, but I'm just like, it's like the pipeline
- 4:51Speaker 9: and shit.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I'm not a fan of.
- 4:54Speaker 9: Of, like, the whole, like, space cop thing. Even though
- 4:57Speaker 9: apparently that's what they are in the comics. I mean,
- 5:00Speaker 9: correct me if I'm wrong.
- 5:01Speaker 2: No, they are.
- 5:02Speaker 9: And I've just always been into just the whole alien
- 5:06Speaker 9: aspect of it with the different powers and different meanings
- 5:09Speaker 9: and stuff. That was what I was kind of looking for.
- 5:12Speaker 9: Looking for more alien battles, more sci-fi stuff. But it
- 5:15Speaker 9: was a little too grounded for my.
- 5:18Speaker 6: Too grounded.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Okay. For my liking. So, I just.
- 5:23Speaker 9: I watched it because I wanted to talk about it
- 5:24Speaker 9: with my boys and talk about it with y'all. Especially
- 5:27Speaker 9: I finished this show because y'all was.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Like, yo, please come through.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I'll tell you right now. I don't, I wasn't hate watching.
- 5:36Speaker 9: Cause obviously I watch a lot of media and there's
- 5:38Speaker 9: always things that I will find that I enjoy about it,
- 5:41Speaker 9: but it's just not even worth me pointing out.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Cause I probably won't be watching the show.
- 5:48Speaker 6: The next season.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think so, personally.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I feel like calling it a cop show is a
- 5:55Speaker 3: bit reductive. That would be my first rebuttal to that. Yeah,
- 6:03Speaker 3: I feel like it's calling it a bit reductive. Honestly,
- 6:08Speaker 3: that was a lot of people's complaint about the show,
- 6:10Speaker 3: is that it wasn't the true detective buddy cop show
- 6:13Speaker 3: that they were promised in the trailer. which I found
- 6:16Speaker 3: funny because I don't know. I don't, I don't care
- 6:18Speaker 3: about trailers and two, I'm not, you're not promised anything
- 6:21Speaker 3: by anything.
- 6:21Speaker 4: It's like, you got to watch the show and find
- 6:23Speaker 4: out what it is.
- 6:24Speaker 3: But to call this a cop show, when to me,
- 6:28Speaker 3: the whole point and something I tried to explain to
- 6:30Speaker 3: people over and over. In fact, we, you know, there
- 6:32Speaker 3: was a lot of contention in our comments about this,
- 6:36Speaker 3: that people felt that it, you know, John was a cop.
- 6:40Speaker 3: All he did was obey orders and, And I kept
- 6:43Speaker 3: pointing out that it was a journey and it was
- 6:46Speaker 3: a character arc. And that if you ever looked at
- 6:50Speaker 3: any of the scenes that they showed even early on
- 6:52Speaker 3: in the series, when it was 2026, John was not
- 6:58Speaker 3: acting like a cop. He was not obeying orders. He
- 7:00Speaker 3: was doing whatever he wanted to. And as we see
- 7:03Speaker 3: at the end of the show, John explicitly refuses the
- 7:06Speaker 3: idea of being a cop, of taking a cop's oath,
- 7:10Speaker 3: of wearing a cop's uniform, of doing any of that
- 7:13Speaker 3: stuff and opts to be a superhero. I will say
- 7:16Speaker 3: he does waterboard somebody, you know, in that same episode.
- 7:20Speaker 2: So, you know, get you. Yeah.
- 7:24Speaker 3: You know, valid points.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Programming.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't argue everything here because that was definitely,
- 7:31Speaker 3: you know, I got a list of notes right here.
- 7:33Speaker 3: And number two is waterboarding right after Carrie is bugging. So, yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 3: I can't disagree, but I do say that it is
- 7:48Speaker 3: a bit reductive and I feel like there is. a
- 7:51Speaker 3: lot of forces at work here. You know, there are,
- 7:54Speaker 3: it's a large writer's room and certain writers might have
- 7:57Speaker 3: certain opinions about waterboarding.
- 8:00Speaker 4: And I feel like I'm sure other writers had other opinions.
- 8:03Speaker 3: And someone out and John Waterboard, somebody in this episode.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Damn.
- 8:08Speaker 3: All right.
- 8:08Speaker 5: So, Tren, generally speaking, you just felt it was too grounded.
- 8:11Speaker 5: You were looking for more outer space shit.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Gotcha. Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 9: I was really looking. Because I didn't watch the trailers
- 8:17Speaker 9: at all, I don't think. Not that I can remember.
- 8:20Speaker 9: I don't think we watched it on our show. We did.
- 8:23Speaker 9: But I went in dry. No expectations whatsoever. I was
- 8:27Speaker 9: just trying to see what they were going to do
- 8:29Speaker 9: with it.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Come on, man.
- 8:33Speaker 9: And I just was not, you know, I wasn't that
- 8:38Speaker 9: pulled by any of it because like, even in you,
- 8:41Speaker 9: even when you're like in your rebuttal and you're talking
- 8:43Speaker 9: about how it's not like he kind of rejected the
- 8:48Speaker 9: idea of the, the, the cop idea, stuff like that.
- 8:51Speaker 9: If it is a cop show, then all this stuff
- 8:53Speaker 9: that he's rejecting, what does that mean? But this, all
- 8:56Speaker 9: that coding, that's why we're able to think about that.
- 8:58Speaker 9: That's why I was able to pick that apart. You know,
- 9:00Speaker 9: I try to go in, with no type of background
- 9:05Speaker 9: for what it is. And I took all that in immediately,
- 9:07Speaker 9: especially with the fact that they were calling themselves space cops.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's kind of, they weren't in space.
- 9:12Speaker 2: So what are they?
- 9:12Speaker 3: I mean, Green Lantern of Sector 2814, which includes the
- 9:17Speaker 3: dirt and the stars as pointed out in this episode.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I feel you, but I also feel like you're making points.
- 9:23Speaker 2: That are like, this is explained in the show for him.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Like, I'm sorry, but you know, cause these are also,
- 9:32Speaker 3: it's not just you, you know, that's the thing. These
- 9:33Speaker 3: are points that are being made by a large portion
- 9:36Speaker 3: of the audience. And when we talk about media literacy,
- 9:38Speaker 3: I kind of be like, bro, like that, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 3: this is the point of the show. Like, you know,
- 9:44Speaker 3: you can't have things, you know, the wire won't work
- 9:47Speaker 3: if you don't, you know, explore, uh, the drug trade,
- 9:52Speaker 3: you know, it's like, you don't get the wire without
- 9:54Speaker 3: exploring drug trade and police, you know, it's like, you
- 9:57Speaker 3: don't get this show without saying this is a cop
- 9:59Speaker 3: and maybe that's not the best thing.
- 10:02Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 10:03Speaker 3: That's like, I don't, you know, you got to explain
- 10:05Speaker 3: what a cop is, you know, to say a cop
- 10:08Speaker 3: ain't good. And it's like, we have this discussion even
- 10:12Speaker 3: about the water board and where, you know, all of
- 10:14Speaker 3: us for the most part are like, well, that's wild out. And,
- 10:17Speaker 3: I don't want to say names, but you know, I
- 10:19Speaker 3: do think that, like I say, the writer's room has a,
- 10:22Speaker 3: you know, a couple of different things, but I don't know.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I just, I feel like, yeah, I feel like some
- 10:27Speaker 3: of this is just explained in the show.
- 10:28Speaker 5: And it's like, it's not, well, I do want to
- 10:32Speaker 5: hear from Hod and Dame, which I felt about the,
- 10:35Speaker 5: about the series.
- 10:36Speaker 1: So I'll, um, I didn't take as much umbrage with the, the,
- 10:41Speaker 1: the cop stuff.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I mean, I thought that, I thought that was fine.
- 10:45Speaker 1: When you bring up media literacy though, Uh, this was
- 10:49Speaker 1: one of those shows that actually made me question, like,
- 10:52Speaker 1: am I stupid? Because there was, there was multiple points
- 10:59Speaker 1: that I really could not tell what I was supposed
- 11:02Speaker 1: to be focusing on. I didn't, I didn't like the
- 11:05Speaker 1: time jumps. I personally didn't like the time jumps. So
- 11:09Speaker 1: I want to start here.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I did not.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I saw the news reports, right? That Aaron, um, Pierre
- 11:15Speaker 1: was going to be green lantern, right? I did not
- 11:18Speaker 1: bother to find out what he was going to be
- 11:20Speaker 1: Green Lantern in. I know that there's they're doing a
- 11:23Speaker 1: bunch of DCU stuff on in the Warner Brothers side.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And I know James Gunn has been doing a lot
- 11:28Speaker 1: of stuff over there. So I personally, once I get
- 11:32Speaker 1: the reports, my worry is always that I don't want
- 11:34Speaker 1: to get.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Spoiled with anything.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Because it's like with Jean Grey, the Jean Grey reveal
- 11:41Speaker 1: was me. I was I was shocked that. the villain
- 11:44Speaker 1: in Spider-Man turned out to be Jean Grey. That was
- 11:46Speaker 1: so cool. So once I find out that an actor
- 11:50Speaker 1: that I'm familiar with is going to be in a movie,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I don't really want to know anything else. So coming
- 11:55Speaker 1: into the show, I didn't even know it was a
- 11:57Speaker 1: show about Green Lantern.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I thought I saw Lanterns. I saw, oh, are you
- 12:02Speaker 2: watching Lanterns? Are you watching Lanterns? It's Aaron Pierre. All right, cool. Oh, shit,
- 12:07Speaker 2: this is a Green Lantern show? That's pretty cool.
- 12:10Speaker 3: But.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I don't know anything about Green Lantern. I'm not, I'm
- 12:15Speaker 2: not really familiar.
- 12:16Speaker 1: The problem is I don't think I still don't, I
- 12:19Speaker 1: don't think I know anything about the Lantern still. I
- 12:21Speaker 1: don't think I learned anything about the Guardian still. I
- 12:24Speaker 1: don't think I learned much about the world. I know
- 12:27Speaker 1: about Jon Stewart. I think that, I think the, obviously
- 12:32Speaker 1: his arc was incredible, right? We, we learned about him
- 12:36Speaker 1: from when he was a kid and, I totally got all.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Of that stuff like with his parents.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Um, but I don't think the show did enough to
- 12:48Speaker 1: justify wanting to be a green lantern in the first
- 12:51Speaker 1: place or wanting to be a lantern in the first place.
- 12:54Speaker 1: John not wanting to be a lantern should have been
- 13:00Speaker 1: more unreasonable. Like it should have, to me, it should
- 13:03Speaker 1: have been more like, of course.
- 13:05Speaker 2: You want to be a lantern, right? Everyone would want
- 13:06Speaker 2: to be a lantern.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I don't think, based on the way how Jordan represented
- 13:11Speaker 1: being a Lantern and the way the, you know, the
- 13:15Speaker 1: Guardians kind of posited the role, my question was, why
- 13:20Speaker 1: does Jon want to do this at all? So like
- 13:21Speaker 1: him not becoming a Lantern at the end, or rather
- 13:25Speaker 1: him not joining the Lantern Corps at the end felt
- 13:29Speaker 1: like the most natural conclusion. And I don't think that
- 13:31Speaker 1: was the point. I think they should have created it
- 13:35Speaker 1: to where him not him not accepting the role was subversion,
- 13:41Speaker 1: but it didn't feel like subversion.
- 13:42Speaker 2: It felt like the more natural conclusion. So I.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I don't know if the show was for people who
- 13:49Speaker 1: don't know anything about Green Lantern or don't know anything
- 13:51Speaker 1: about that, that backstory, because. I just don't I don't
- 13:57Speaker 1: feel like I learned much about the world and the
- 14:00Speaker 1: fact that the show was called Lanterns instead of. steward
- 14:04Speaker 1: or you know what i mean or just like something
- 14:07Speaker 1: more direct to him i felt like i would have
- 14:11Speaker 1: appreciated it a bit more but yeah there was just
- 14:15Speaker 1: like imagine avengers but it's just hawkeye you know what
- 14:18Speaker 1: i mean like it's just like it's just it just
- 14:20Speaker 1: feels like that you know what i mean like okay
- 14:24Speaker 1: like he's he's seeing all these things happening he knows
- 14:27Speaker 1: all of these things are happening but the only time
- 14:30Speaker 1: you're interacting with sinestro The only time you're interacting with
- 14:34Speaker 1: a guardian is these very quiet, soft moments, as opposed
- 14:39Speaker 1: to that Sinestro. Like we, you know, he's one of
- 14:43Speaker 1: the bigger villains. He should be doing cool shit. Uh,
- 14:47Speaker 1: trend did bring up on our show. There's all these
- 14:49Speaker 1: aliens right in the, uh, you know, part of the
- 14:53Speaker 1: cult and all this other thing.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And they're all shooting guns. You know what I mean?
- 14:57Speaker 1: And it was just, it just, it just felt like,
- 15:00Speaker 1: It felt like there was a bigger reason why we
- 15:03Speaker 1: weren't seeing that stuff as opposed to that's just the
- 15:07Speaker 1: story they wanted to tell.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Maybe it was.
- 15:09Speaker 6: Well, they explained it a few times.
- 15:11Speaker 5: If you watch the after show, a lot of people
- 15:13Speaker 5: skip this part, don't realize it's even happening. But when
- 15:15Speaker 5: you watch the whole show through at the very, very end,
- 15:18Speaker 5: it's the after show. That about two minutes where they
- 15:21Speaker 5: just talk about the episode and why they did certain things.
- 15:23Speaker 5: And they had said many times that... they didn't want
- 15:26Speaker 5: to be, essentially, they didn't want to be cliche. They
- 15:28Speaker 5: didn't want to overly rely on the comic book-esque of it, right?
- 15:32Speaker 5: They didn't want to over-rely on the space, you know,
- 15:35Speaker 5: outer space shit of it, right? Like, they wanted to
- 15:37Speaker 5: say this, number one, unfortunately for you, Trent, they said
- 15:40Speaker 5: they did this as a grounded story on purpose. They
- 15:43Speaker 5: wanted this to be fully grounded. Yes, it had the
- 15:45Speaker 5: true detective DNA in it, which is why the style
- 15:49Speaker 5: was the way it was. And also because you didn't
- 15:52Speaker 5: you saw things like them aliens, quote, shooting guns.
- 15:55Speaker 6: They were in human form. That's another thing.
- 15:57Speaker 5: When these aliens take on human form, they are bound
- 16:00Speaker 5: by the quote, generally the limits of humanity.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:03Speaker 5: And what's the best shit we got? Some fucking guns.
- 16:05Speaker 5: So that's what you're going to see. And as mentioned,
- 16:08Speaker 5: they're just, Damon Lindenhoff and the rest of the team,
- 16:11Speaker 5: they were just more so like, we want this to
- 16:14Speaker 5: be an earthbound series. It's going to have some fantastic
- 16:17Speaker 5: elements here and there. Niggas is flying in the series,
- 16:20Speaker 5: but you're not going to get like, it's not some
- 16:23Speaker 5: men in black shit. We don't get tentacles and niggas
- 16:25Speaker 5: flying in spaceships that you can see and shit like that.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Like that's not, that's just not the vibe they was
- 16:29Speaker 5: going for.
- 16:30Speaker 6: Sure.
- 16:31Speaker 7: I get what you're coming from because I also had
- 16:33Speaker 7: no idea what Green Lanterns was outside of just the bare,
- 16:37Speaker 7: bones understanding of like there were rings involved and you
- 16:40Speaker 7: can do things with the rings like that's all I
- 16:42Speaker 7: really knew about Green Lanterns and I was like I'm
- 16:44Speaker 7: embarking on this journey with two people who know what's
- 16:46Speaker 7: going on and I'm just here for the ride see
- 16:49Speaker 7: what happens um and I think so yeah like coming
- 16:53Speaker 7: into it I was from coming in from a place
- 16:55Speaker 7: like a similar place where I was just like okay
- 16:56Speaker 7: like what's coming in but I think I had an
- 16:58Speaker 7: opposite reaction to it because I am trying to drink
- 17:02Speaker 7: in the elements of like why would someone want to
- 17:04Speaker 7: be involved with this like you just are a human
- 17:07Speaker 7: on earth why would you want to become involved with
- 17:09Speaker 7: this intergalactic core like why would you even do all
- 17:12Speaker 7: of that I think the groundedness for me was like
- 17:15Speaker 7: a good way for me to get like an understanding
- 17:17Speaker 7: of why he would want to do like why would
- 17:19Speaker 7: anybody want to do it why would anybody on earth
- 17:21Speaker 7: under wrap their brains around it and then so like
- 17:23Speaker 7: the trauma.
- 17:24Speaker 6: Of John Stewart Sr., having, like, being traumatized by being, like, I.
- 17:30Speaker 7: He woke up in the middle of the night by
- 17:31Speaker 7: a voice, and, like, an omniscient voice asking him, are
- 17:35Speaker 7: you afraid?
- 17:36Speaker 6: How did he not know that was God, right? Like,
- 17:37Speaker 6: how did he not know who's getting spoken to by, like,
- 17:39Speaker 6: the entity from, like, the... Like, he has no idea. So,
- 17:42Speaker 6: I think, for me, like.
- 17:45Speaker 7: taking it in from that kind of level of understanding and, like,
- 17:48Speaker 7: it being grounded. Like, did I love that we were
- 17:50Speaker 7: in Nebraska all season?
- 17:52Speaker 6: Who loves Nebraska? Do people in Nebraska love Nebraska?
- 17:55Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Tell me in the comments. But I just feel like.
- 17:59Speaker 8: Niggas in Nebraska don't even like Nebraska.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Shout out to Nebraska. Let me know. Niggas in Nebraska
- 18:07Speaker 2: don't even like Nebraska.
- 18:10Speaker 7: Shout out to y'all. I'm just asking a real question.
- 18:14Speaker 7: I'm saying that I completely get what you're saying. I
- 18:17Speaker 7: think that you're also saying some things that I didn't
- 18:20Speaker 7: even consider about when it comes to actually making this
- 18:27Speaker 7: show being called Lanterns Ground and why are we not
- 18:30Speaker 7: seeing boom, boom, lantern stuff. I understand that to an extent.
- 18:33Speaker 7: I think for me, that's the subversion overall is that
- 18:37Speaker 7: we are not getting... We're not, we only truly see
- 18:40Speaker 7: by the end of, this is the final episode of
- 18:42Speaker 7: the season. We only see one color lantern all season.
- 18:46Speaker 7: We got told lanterns. We only saw one color. And
- 18:50Speaker 7: we got hints towards different colors.
- 18:52Speaker 6: I was hearing the experts here talk about the different colors.
- 18:54Speaker 6: And I'm just like, I don't see no other colors, baby.
- 18:58Speaker 6: We're just here with the green.
- 19:00Speaker 7: And so that was kind of, like, anticlimactic for me
- 19:03Speaker 7: at the end of the season was that, like, when
- 19:05Speaker 7: he goes to charge the ring and Hal was telling him,
- 19:08Speaker 7: you need to be careful.
- 19:08Speaker 6: You don't know what's going to happen to you. And
- 19:09Speaker 6: it's not yellow. And it's just green.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I was just like, oh. Yeah.
- 19:12Speaker 8: I was very disappointed at that, too, because, like, the
- 19:15Speaker 8: whole time Sinestro was over there trying to convince him, like, hey,
- 19:17Speaker 8: you going to do it?
- 19:18Speaker 2: You going to do it? And then he ends up
- 19:20Speaker 2: doing it in the end.
- 19:21Speaker 8: It's like, all right, where's the payoff or where's the
- 19:23Speaker 8: consequences that Sinestro was kind of promising unless there was, like,
- 19:27Speaker 8: something in that moment where john was supposed to feel
- 19:29Speaker 8: like when he was on that island maybe because he
- 19:31Speaker 8: was surrounded by all this fearful water and the air
- 19:34Speaker 8: and everything around him was a different type of environment
- 19:36Speaker 8: maybe there at that space it would have turned yellow
- 19:39Speaker 8: but since it happened on earth it turned green i
- 19:41Speaker 8: don't know i think this finale did a good job
- 19:45Speaker 8: at leaving both the comic um the comic fans um
- 19:49Speaker 8: but the something to wonder going forward in terms.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Of like what did they do to how they.
- 19:54Speaker 8: Kept focusing on that nigga's elbow for a long ass
- 19:56Speaker 8: time and you're a comic book fan you probably know
- 19:59Speaker 8: what that's going to lead to and if you are
- 20:02Speaker 8: just a casual general fan i think they left you
- 20:04Speaker 8: with enough questions or uh the one i feel like
- 20:06Speaker 8: they tied enough loose ends at the end Um, and
- 20:09Speaker 8: I also think they left you enough to be curious about. So,
- 20:12Speaker 8: cause it hasn't been, I don't think there's been a
- 20:13Speaker 8: season two confirmed yet, but if they were to continue
- 20:15Speaker 8: on with a season two, there's enough for, you know,
- 20:17Speaker 8: to get the general audience to come back at the
- 20:19Speaker 8: same time. Um, now my review of lanterns is just
- 20:22Speaker 8: completely opposite of these guys.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Uh, I actually enjoyed the show. I did grow up.
- 20:28Speaker 8: Not reading any of the Green Lantern comics, but I
- 20:31Speaker 8: grew up watching Justice League, Justice League Unlimited. So Jon
- 20:35Speaker 8: Stewart was my Green Lantern growing up. I didn't learn
- 20:38Speaker 8: about Hal until probably way later on into my teens
- 20:41Speaker 8: when I started looking more into that stuff. So I
- 20:44Speaker 8: feel like they did a wonderful job in not fucking
- 20:47Speaker 8: up Jon. Jon was by far, in my opinion, the
- 20:49Speaker 8: best part of this show.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Hal, to me.
- 20:54Speaker 8: Was not that interesting at all. I'm used to different
- 20:58Speaker 8: variations of.
- 20:59Speaker 2: How Hal is.
- 21:00Speaker 8: I've seen an arrogant Hal. I've seen a new Hal
- 21:02Speaker 8: that's kind of getting his bearings together. I've seen a
- 21:06Speaker 8: very untrusting Hal. I've seen Hal turn evil. But I've
- 21:09Speaker 8: never seen this Hal with a little twang in his voice.
- 21:12Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 21:12Speaker 8: This Hal kind of felt a little different to me.
- 21:15Speaker 8: He talked a little different than usual. We never got
- 21:18Speaker 8: to see Hal in Coastal City either. That kind of
- 21:19Speaker 8: pissed me off. In Coastal City either. That kind of
- 21:22Speaker 8: I mean, it doesn't end well.
- 21:25Speaker 3: For the people of Coast City, so it's probably for
- 21:28Speaker 3: the best that we don't see him there.
- 21:31Speaker 5: And just really quick, Season 2 has been confirmed. Damon
- 21:34Speaker 5: Lindelof has said that he has opted not to return
- 21:36Speaker 5: for Season 2, but Season 2 is in early stages
- 21:39Speaker 5: of development.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Yeah. I.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Okay, now, I see all these points, and I definitely
- 21:46Speaker 3: understand that, but I don't know, I just... I understand
- 21:50Speaker 3: the space stuff and the thing, but at the same time,
- 21:53Speaker 3: I feel like what they said, it would become quite
- 21:55Speaker 3: cliched if every episode ends with, you know, big green
- 22:00Speaker 3: fists and stuff. Like, as cool as Green Lantern can be,
- 22:04Speaker 3: and even John's constructs and stuff, despairingly, like, I thought
- 22:07Speaker 3: when they used the drill, you know, or even just
- 22:10Speaker 3: little things like the watch, it's just these little moments
- 22:13Speaker 3: that make so much more impact than having beams of
- 22:17Speaker 3: green light every episode and And even though, like, let's
- 22:20Speaker 3: say at this finale where I thought, you know, okay,
- 22:22Speaker 3: we're going to get some type of battle in this finale.
- 22:24Speaker 4: You know, Sinestro's going to forge a ring and all that.
- 22:28Speaker 2: We got one.
- 22:29Speaker 7: Yeah. was that a battle or was that just a jump.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Like that five foot one man stomped the living life
- 22:40Speaker 3: out of john.
- 22:41Speaker 8: Yeah man why is this half alien out there playing
- 22:43Speaker 8: football that's cheating.
- 22:45Speaker 2: That is cheating i was very look hey hey it's.
- 22:48Speaker 7: Like that one kid and the incredibles like dash just
- 22:51Speaker 7: like yeah yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 8: How'd y'all almost lose that game I mean, he was
- 22:56Speaker 8: holding back.
- 22:57Speaker 3: It's a sickness, bro. I know I could beat y'all.
- 23:02Speaker 3: I'm not going to do it. It's like I've said
- 23:04Speaker 3: so many times on this show, if I had superpowers,
- 23:07Speaker 3: five rings.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Immediately, dog.
- 23:09Speaker 5: Five.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Five rings. Would you stop at five? Yeah, I'm not
- 23:13Speaker 2: topping Jordan.
- 23:14Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 23:14Speaker 3: I might not even get five. I might get two.
- 23:17Speaker 3: You know, because I love Elijah Wong. So I get five.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I just want to be in conversation. Yeah, I just
- 23:21Speaker 2: wanted to be in the car. And really, the riches.
- 23:23Speaker 2: You know, I just want two rings real quick. Get
- 23:26Speaker 2: all the money and vanish.
- 23:27Speaker 4: You know?
- 23:28Speaker 2: And vanish. That's it.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Like, I don't need.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Come back as another nigga and do it again. If
- 23:34Speaker 2: I was a man or an old boy, I'd play football.
- 23:37Speaker 3: If you was a man, you'd definitely be violating.
- 23:41Speaker 2: You'd be coming.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Back as everybody. Like he said, you'd be violating every
- 23:45Speaker 5: fucking sport.
- 23:45Speaker 6: Please, don't lie.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Don't lie.
- 23:47Speaker 3: But just for like two years, just for like two
- 23:50Speaker 3: years in each one, it'd be crazy. Like people would
- 23:52Speaker 3: be like, yo, there's all these random players just coming
- 23:55Speaker 3: in this morning, you know, vanishing, you know.
- 23:57Speaker 4: I'd run that WNBA too though. It'd be terrible.
- 24:01Speaker 6: Not the WNBA.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Leave them alone.
- 24:03Speaker 6: They have enough going on.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I would be so much hype, dog. I'd be a
- 24:08Speaker 3: crazy ass black woman dunking and shit.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I'm trying to see a movie like that.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Juana, man.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Juana, man.
- 24:14Speaker 2: It happened already, yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 5: Like 30 years.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Ago i know him taking over like just other niggas
- 24:21Speaker 3: and just centuries of just.
- 24:24Speaker 7: That sounds like like the disney channel channel show called
- 24:29Speaker 7: the jersey where they were kids that found a jersey
- 24:31Speaker 7: never being any different character like any different player on
- 24:33Speaker 7: the oh that'd.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Be me as a man hunter that'd be me as
- 24:38Speaker 3: a man or like you know jersey jersey Saw the
- 24:43Speaker 3: inside of my head. You would start screaming, boy.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Rings.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:46Speaker 6: I would say this. I do.
- 24:48Speaker 4: It's a different type of ring over here.
- 24:51Speaker 5: I do like hearing you guys say something different than
- 24:54Speaker 5: I mean, some of that I heard online, but.
- 24:56Speaker 6: Something different from your perspective. Let me say it this way.
- 25:01Speaker 5: The way you guys articulated it is very much different
- 25:04Speaker 5: from what I've seen online. Online is just complaints with
- 25:06Speaker 5: no substance. You guys at least have substance behind what
- 25:08Speaker 5: you were saying. So I respect that. I'm not here
- 25:10Speaker 5: to change your mind. I am here to say, though,
- 25:13Speaker 5: this show was fucking cinema.
- 25:15Speaker 6: It fucking was. From back to front, they landed the
- 25:18Speaker 6: fucking plane.
- 25:19Speaker 5: That's how I felt about the finale and how I
- 25:21Speaker 5: felt about the season overall. I get what you're saying, how, like, hell,
- 25:24Speaker 5: it should have been called Stewart and maybe it would
- 25:26Speaker 5: have had a more succinct impact with you. And that
- 25:30Speaker 5: is fine. That was the point. This was the vehicle
- 25:33Speaker 5: for Jon Stewart, the.
- 25:34Speaker 6: New Jon Stewart.
- 25:35Speaker 8: For sure.
- 25:35Speaker 5: And to, as Damon says at the end of this episode,
- 25:37Speaker 5: to launch him into the DCU.
- 25:39Speaker 6: And what a fucking launch it was. Because this.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Again, the fact that it even brought you guys and
- 25:44Speaker 5: the ones who had no idea what Lanterns was about,
- 25:48Speaker 5: what any of this shit was about, but y'all, you know,
- 25:50Speaker 5: unfortunately for Trenton, begrudgingly or not, watched the entire season.
- 25:55Speaker 5: It means something. It means something.
- 25:57Speaker 6: At least you got to give credit to the writing.
- 25:59Speaker 6: You got to give credit to the.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Production of it to the design of it the way
- 26:05Speaker 5: the fucking show sounds right like this this episode the
- 26:08Speaker 5: sound design was insane especially when they were on that
- 26:11Speaker 5: other planet the um the planet that zoe destroyed so.
- 26:13Speaker 4: It's a woman who did the score as well and.
- 26:15Speaker 5: She's yes yes And I'm saying all these different elements
- 26:19Speaker 5: because it is an art piece and it's an art
- 26:21Speaker 5: piece that has grabbed everybody's attention in one way or another.
- 26:24Speaker 5: And it has such like political components to it, emotional
- 26:28Speaker 5: components to it, societal components.
- 26:30Speaker 6: To it, niggas component. Cause the niggas was all over
- 26:32Speaker 6: this show too.
- 26:33Speaker 5: So like, I think at the end of the day,
- 26:35Speaker 5: this show was successful in what it really meant to do,
- 26:38Speaker 5: which I felt was to introduce you to what I
- 26:42Speaker 5: think is the anchor of the new DCU.
- 26:44Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 5: Lanterns and lanterns specifically green lanterns like it's always been
- 26:48Speaker 5: superman's always been batman no it is john stewart at
- 26:52Speaker 5: least right now is john stewart is aaron pierre's john
- 26:54Speaker 5: stewart it is the green lantern as a mantle as
- 26:57Speaker 5: a character and everything that emanates from there so um
- 27:01Speaker 5: i i really thought this was a beautiful finale really
- 27:04Speaker 5: and the way it ended the way it literally ended
- 27:07Speaker 5: in love i love you you know it was a
- 27:08Speaker 5: little trick that hologram had to pull but it really
- 27:12Speaker 5: showed you the depths and the journey of how and
- 27:15Speaker 5: John together throughout this series, even though this was an
- 27:18Speaker 5: echo of how it was still how it was his,
- 27:21Speaker 5: the true essence of how, and for them to, at
- 27:23Speaker 5: the end of the day, come together in love and
- 27:26Speaker 5: for John to finally find himself, literally figuratively find himself.
- 27:30Speaker 5: And what did I say? He was going to get
- 27:32Speaker 5: his little birdie wings and fly away. He fucking did it.
- 27:35Speaker 2: He did it. Yeah.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I definitely appreciated his, um, that little piece of that
- 27:40Speaker 1: little moment he got with his mom at the end.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yeah. I thought that was, that was pretty beautiful. Um,
- 27:49Speaker 2: they let the dad out.
- 27:50Speaker 7: He's like, he's outside of the hook.
- 27:53Speaker 6: He had his own separate hug.
- 27:55Speaker 7: And then he walked in.
- 27:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Like just the, you know, that moment she got where
- 28:01Speaker 1: she could breathe probably would felt like decades.
- 28:06Speaker 7: Right.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Just, uh, worrying about him and, you know, even his, um,
- 28:11Speaker 1: you know, kind of not believing Noah when, when Noah's
- 28:15Speaker 1: in the car and telling him that, Oh, you know,
- 28:18Speaker 1: I killed how, you know what I mean?
- 28:19Speaker 2: And, uh, he's like, Oh, okay, cool. No.
- 28:24Speaker 1: And then we go straight to carry. And it's like, so, um, about,
- 28:29Speaker 1: about what happened to how, right. I thought that was
- 28:31Speaker 1: really cool. And his, his, uh, almost like understanding and
- 28:36Speaker 1: like forgiving, uh, his mom in that moment of like
- 28:40Speaker 1: a mother's love, right? A mother's just like, she's going
- 28:43Speaker 1: to put you through things and she's going to, um,
- 28:46Speaker 1: force you out. And she's going to be terrified the
- 28:49Speaker 1: whole time, but she's going to, she's going to do
- 28:52Speaker 1: these things because of what your potential is. And him
- 28:57Speaker 1: like kind of owning that, like I see my mother,
- 29:01Speaker 1: what my mother did for me in you as it
- 29:05Speaker 1: relates to, uh, you know, Noah, them, them getting that
- 29:10Speaker 1: moment at the end, I thought was, was, was pretty cool.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Do y'all think that was not, I don't want to
- 29:14Speaker 1: say telegraph, but was that gonna happen? Or did they, did,
- 29:20Speaker 1: did John need that moment with Noah and Carrie to
- 29:23Speaker 1: kind of get there with his mother?
- 29:28Speaker 4: It's all part of his growth.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Yeah. I think the whole thing, Someone said that Sinestro
- 29:34Speaker 3: bought a black family back together, but it's true.
- 29:36Speaker 2: It's true. And the magical, you know, torture.
- 29:41Speaker 3: But I don't I think it's just the whole journey.
- 29:46Speaker 3: And that's something I do want to talk about, because
- 29:50Speaker 3: like Tatiana and, you know, I know Portia will have
- 29:52Speaker 3: some things to say about it. I love, you know,
- 29:54Speaker 3: this whole season. I thought it was near perfect. I
- 29:57Speaker 3: thought it was really great how, and I talked about
- 30:00Speaker 3: this before, how most of the threads were tied up.
- 30:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:04Speaker 3: And even though I do understand, like, how you feel
- 30:06Speaker 3: that the Guardians weren't explained enough, I think it's the
- 30:10Speaker 3: idea that these dudes have done a lot of shit
- 30:13Speaker 3: in the past and aren't quite right. That's all you
- 30:16Speaker 3: really need to know, you know, until going forward. Because
- 30:19Speaker 3: like Tatiana said, and like Dennis said, this, what happens
- 30:23Speaker 3: in Lanterns, a lot of it is going to be
- 30:24Speaker 3: explored in the future to DCU. And I feel like
- 30:27Speaker 3: the Guardians, because in the comics, they are the architects
- 30:31Speaker 3: of a lot of stuff that's happened, you know, because
- 30:33Speaker 3: they've been around forever. So I think that's going to
- 30:36Speaker 3: be explored more. So I thought this was good enough.
- 30:39Speaker 3: And as a setup for John, as a setup for
- 30:41Speaker 3: making Aaron Pierre a superstar, I thought all that was fantastic.
- 30:45Speaker 3: And then, The one thing I do want to touch
- 30:47Speaker 3: on it, because this has come up a lot, is
- 30:49Speaker 3: that people seem to not understand why John would want
- 30:52Speaker 3: to be a Green Lantern. And I feel like that
- 30:54Speaker 3: was even addressed as one. He's forced down this road.
- 30:58Speaker 3: You know, I mean, he doesn't you know, it's even
- 31:00Speaker 3: he questions it like he has fear about that. You know,
- 31:04Speaker 3: do you know when his younger self confronts him? You
- 31:06Speaker 3: don't even really want to be a Green Lantern. You know,
- 31:08Speaker 3: this is not what you want. So I think that's
- 31:11Speaker 3: drawing your little book. And I think that's addressed. And
- 31:14Speaker 3: it's also that's something that I just really love. And
- 31:17Speaker 3: it's something that, you know, I think you'll appreciate when
- 31:20Speaker 3: like Vision Quest comes on next week is the amount
- 31:24Speaker 3: of blackness in this show. You know, the fact that
- 31:27Speaker 3: we can sit here and relate to our own mothers,
- 31:29Speaker 3: because I said this, I did a review of Rodimus Prime.
- 31:32Speaker 4: We talked about it as soon as it went off.
- 31:34Speaker 3: And I was talking about how my own mom would
- 31:35Speaker 3: sit there waiting for me when, you know, when I was,
- 31:38Speaker 3: especially when I was in college. And after that, I'd
- 31:40Speaker 3: come home, you know, I'd go out for the night
- 31:42Speaker 3: and she'd be sitting by the door when I came in,
- 31:44Speaker 3: you know, till three in the morning, you know, sitting
- 31:47Speaker 3: up waiting for me to walk back in the.
- 31:49Speaker 4: Door, you know?
- 31:50Speaker 3: And I'm like, you don't do this when I'm out,
- 31:52Speaker 3: you know, living in DC, but when I'm home, you know,
- 31:54Speaker 3: she's holding her breath till I come home. And so
- 31:58Speaker 3: that type of stuff and to see that type of
- 32:00Speaker 3: stuff on a HBO show every week, I don't think
- 32:04Speaker 3: it's enough credit. And I don't think it's understood that
- 32:07Speaker 3: like Bernadette, you know, is losing it.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Her family is falling apart.
- 32:12Speaker 3: White woman from space comes down with a diamond and says,
- 32:16Speaker 3: your husband wasn't insane. You know, all that stuff he
- 32:19Speaker 3: was saying is right. And your son could be space.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Jesus cop, as.
- 32:25Speaker 3: We've said, and can save this family. What I'm saying
- 32:28Speaker 3: will save this family. If you do this, you know,
- 32:31Speaker 3: that's why I don't, It's implied.
- 32:34Speaker 6: It's implied.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Because Bernadette knows that Bernadette's been thinking her husband is insane.
- 32:40Speaker 2: And now suddenly she has evidence that her husband isn't.
- 32:44Speaker 11: So it's like but she gets a lot of hope
- 32:46Speaker 11: she gets a connotation onto that thing right because i'm
- 32:51Speaker 11: just i'm trying to like let's get bernie at her
- 32:52Speaker 11: agency she's the one who puts a connotation of like
- 32:55Speaker 11: this is what like the guardian the whole time like
- 32:58Speaker 11: the guardian is not it's like it's irrelevant to me
- 33:00Speaker 11: of whether or not you do this like i'm telling
- 33:03Speaker 11: you it's a possibility.
- 33:05Speaker 5: It's a possibility and the possibility is enough like you
- 33:07Speaker 5: riding on.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Hold and like i've also said if You know, somebody
- 33:12Speaker 3: comes down from space and says, your son could be
- 33:14Speaker 3: LeBron James, you know, Michael Jackson, all this rolled into one,
- 33:18Speaker 3: and it'll save your family at once.
- 33:19Speaker 4: There's a possibility.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Like I said, my parents, you know, good or bad,
- 33:23Speaker 3: beat my ass out of fear and a lot of,
- 33:25Speaker 3: you know, fear and love for a lot less than that.
- 33:29Speaker 3: You know, so I really don't understand why people are like, oh,
- 33:34Speaker 3: shot or like, you know, I give Bernadette and John Sr.
- 33:37Speaker 3: their agency. And I feel like they're not. It's just
- 33:40Speaker 3: like with how nobody's perfect on this show. I don't
- 33:43Speaker 3: think they're villains. I don't think they're heroes. But I
- 33:46Speaker 3: do think they were trying their best, you know, like
- 33:49Speaker 3: to take from the X-Men in the world of fears
- 33:51Speaker 3: and hates them.
- 33:52Speaker 8: At some point, everybody on this show was lying.
- 33:55Speaker 4: I mean, constantly.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Everybody.
- 33:56Speaker 2: To themselves, to each other.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Top to bottom.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:00Speaker 4: You know, inner monologue lion.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Like, everything.
- 34:03Speaker 4: Like, there's lies.
- 34:04Speaker 2: John even said it in one episode. He was like, yo,
- 34:05Speaker 2: I feel like everybody, you think so? Zoe, right?
- 34:08Speaker 8: I think everybody's lying to me right now.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:10Speaker 5: And they were.
- 34:11Speaker 3: And he also says, and that's what I would do,
- 34:13Speaker 3: is lie. And then proceeds to tell a terrible lie.
- 34:16Speaker 3: And so, yeah, I'm... Like I say, Aaron Pierre is acting, man.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I was shocked.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. He carried the show.
- 34:24Speaker 3: For sure. Yeah.
- 34:25Speaker 7: Speaking of lies, do you think he was lying to
- 34:29Speaker 7: Noah when he told Noah that Zoe told him to, like,
- 34:32Speaker 7: kill her? Like, that's what Zoe wanted was for him
- 34:35Speaker 7: to kill her.
- 34:36Speaker 6: So I thought about that, Portia.
- 34:38Speaker 4: She held that pose.
- 34:41Speaker 2: She held.
- 34:41Speaker 6: And that's what I'm saying.
- 34:42Speaker 5: Like, they did the whole POC solidarity thing for that moment,
- 34:45Speaker 5: and that pissed me off again.
- 34:46Speaker 2: But it took me back to the.
- 34:49Speaker 6: And I was like.
- 34:51Speaker 5: He was like, I think she understood me. I'm like,
- 34:53Speaker 5: I guess, nigga.
- 34:54Speaker 2: But, you know, like.
- 34:57Speaker 5: It was implied, because as Ben Ami says, you know,
- 35:00Speaker 5: she held the stoic, you know, one-tier drop pose, like,
- 35:04Speaker 5: if anybody gonna kill me, nigga, it's gonna be you,
- 35:05Speaker 5: type shit.
- 35:06Speaker 6: So that's what I got out of it. So, yes,
- 35:09Speaker 6: I think he was... think john was.
- 35:12Speaker 5: Lying i just think like one i think john was
- 35:16Speaker 5: trying to be poet poetic about the situation he was
- 35:19Speaker 5: like you know like because he wasn't technically lying because
- 35:22Speaker 5: zoe is a manhunt you don't think that bitch could
- 35:24Speaker 5: have jumped out the way just like how she could
- 35:28Speaker 5: have pulled him out the car before the shit blew
- 35:29Speaker 5: up but she chose not to she chose to stand
- 35:31Speaker 5: there she's fucking smiled before he pulled the trigger That
- 35:35Speaker 5: means she seen the nigga.
- 35:36Speaker 6: He was what a mile away.
- 35:37Speaker 5: Like, like, yeah, he essentially, she essentially told him, kill me. Yeah.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Take me out.
- 35:44Speaker 3: You know, I can't be stopped, you know, do this.
- 35:48Speaker 6: So no, he didn't lie to Noah. He just made
- 35:51Speaker 6: it sound real pretty.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Hmm. She's like, I don't like that.
- 35:57Speaker 8: I'm not in the, the general, uh, you know, people
- 36:02Speaker 8: that got so excited when he finally flew um but
- 36:07Speaker 8: i will say that one thing that would have took
- 36:09Speaker 8: it over the top for me because they stayed.
- 36:11Speaker 2: On his face for a while yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 8: If his eyes turned green yeah yeah if his eyes
- 36:16Speaker 8: turned green i would have got up and started.
- 36:18Speaker 7: Aren't they green already they are that is you know
- 36:23Speaker 7: what i mean objectively objectively.
- 36:27Speaker 3: I do like that they saved some of that for
- 36:29Speaker 3: the movie, though, you know, and for having a.
- 36:31Speaker 8: Budget, you know, that can really explore that. I didn't
- 36:35Speaker 8: need no suit right now. Like, where the fuck did
- 36:36Speaker 8: you get this suit from?
- 36:37Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. I wanted to see it, but
- 36:39Speaker 3: when he didn't have one, I was like, that's cool,
- 36:41Speaker 3: you know? And it's also, don't put on the cop suit,
- 36:43Speaker 3: you know?
- 36:44Speaker 2: So, come up with your own suit. Exactly.
- 36:46Speaker 8: Come up with what it's going to look like.
- 36:48Speaker 6: Dame, it did feel a little bit like he was
- 36:50Speaker 6: dangling off of a crane at first. Like, you know,
- 36:52Speaker 6: how you hold it.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. A little heavy ass. Like a little low budget. Yeah.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Budget.
- 36:58Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 36:59Speaker 6: Okay.
- 36:59Speaker 2: That was another thing I want to talk about the budget.
- 37:02Speaker 8: I'm seeing a reported budget of like 15, 16 million
- 37:05Speaker 8: dollars an episode.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Where's all that money going?
- 37:09Speaker 6: You'd be surprised. It ain't going to special effects, brother.
- 37:12Speaker 6: To be honest.
- 37:12Speaker 5: It ain't going to special effects. Like, imagine, think about
- 37:15Speaker 5: it this way. You know, with Game of Thrones, I
- 37:16Speaker 5: don't know if you guys watch Game of Thrones, you
- 37:18Speaker 5: know how long it took to really get more than
- 37:19Speaker 5: like 30 seconds of a dragon?
- 37:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:22Speaker 6: That's the budget.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Five seasons.
- 37:25Speaker 5: FX budget is insane. Like, the amount of money you
- 37:28Speaker 5: need to make shit happen and make it happen nicely
- 37:30Speaker 5: and look good.
- 37:31Speaker 2: That fucking drill was looking.
- 37:33Speaker 6: It's a lot of bread. So, I don't know what
- 37:35Speaker 6: I'm saying. For all you know, the FX budget went
- 37:37Speaker 6: to that.
- 37:38Speaker 5: And honestly, every time, even throughout the season, they was
- 37:41Speaker 5: all kind of doing a little dangly piece thing when
- 37:44Speaker 5: they were just floating there.
- 37:45Speaker 6: And then when they flew away, it became the real FX, right?
- 37:47Speaker 2: So, I don't know. Like, it was.
- 37:49Speaker 6: That wasn't, first of all, that wasn't even effects. That
- 37:51Speaker 6: was practical.
- 37:52Speaker 5: Like, he was literally dangling off a little rope for
- 37:55Speaker 5: a second and then flew off.
- 37:57Speaker 7: And that's why we really got guns this season. It's
- 38:00Speaker 7: because the budget can only allow for guns.
- 38:02Speaker 6: We couldn't get.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Any big blasters. And you learned from what's-his-name on that set? No,
- 38:07Speaker 2: I'm playing.
- 38:07Speaker 6: I mean, these actors are expensive, too. You gotta remember that.
- 38:11Speaker 1: And I totally get that, but outside of the budgetary concerns,
- 38:15Speaker 1: did anybody tell Nathan Fillion.
- 38:19Speaker 2: that he was due to do a show. Why you
- 38:24Speaker 2: say that? That man look crazy.
- 38:26Speaker 1: He ain't been inside of Planet Fitness in six months.
- 38:29Speaker 6: Wow.
- 38:29Speaker 2: My man is.
- 38:32Speaker 6: At 65. Wait a minute.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Let my man Nate live. This is a legend.
- 38:39Speaker 6: We're not going to attribute this to Nate himself.
- 38:42Speaker 5: He actually looked like the exact way he did in
- 38:44Speaker 5: the Superman movie.
- 38:45Speaker 6: He showed up and he looked exactly like that. So continuity.
- 38:48Speaker 2: How about that? A little bit Like two extra glizzies,
- 38:52Speaker 2: it seemed like to me. Wow. He looked crazy to me.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Respect to Nate Fillion. But shout out to Nathan Fillion.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Great actor. I pulled that dude.
- 39:02Speaker 7: Yes.
- 39:02Speaker 2: I pulled that dude. Yeah.
- 39:04Speaker 4: My man said, shout out to Nate Fillion.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Tight ass suit. Like I just, I was just very,
- 39:09Speaker 2: I was, I was taking it back.
- 39:10Speaker 3: You eating, bro?
- 39:11Speaker 2: Your body's shaking. You did him well. You eating from
- 39:13Speaker 2: that money. I am.
- 39:14Speaker 7: I am.
- 39:14Speaker 2: That's not right. I did love that.
- 39:18Speaker 8: I love that face-off between him and John.
- 39:20Speaker 4: Incredible.
- 39:21Speaker 3: That was fire.
- 39:22Speaker 2: I thought that was dope. But the one thing is.
- 39:24Speaker 6: Every time John saw him in his place, like, that was.
- 39:27Speaker 2: John read and fulfilled every time. But this is the same.
- 39:30Speaker 8: guy, Gardner, who also stepped up to Superman and was
- 39:33Speaker 8: ready to go blow for blow with him.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Like, you don't tell me this... That's the point. They
- 39:38Speaker 2: power scaling finally?
- 39:40Speaker 9: They trying to make sure everybody knows who's on top
- 39:43Speaker 9: of who?
- 39:44Speaker 2: That's the point. Jon Stewart is the man.
- 39:47Speaker 5: That was a dick measuring competition in full life, in
- 39:50Speaker 5: real life, in flesh.
- 39:51Speaker 6: That was on purpose.
- 39:54Speaker 3: I ain't got it, you know? You got it, man.
- 40:00Speaker 8: It did make a lot of sense of Guy's future
- 40:02Speaker 8: as well. Because what show is he supposed to be in?
- 40:05Speaker 2: Mr. Wonderful or.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Mr.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Terrific?
- 40:09Speaker 2: No, no, no. It's Mr. Something. He's going to be
- 40:12Speaker 2: on some off-planet show. Yeah.
- 40:16Speaker 8: He's supposed to be appearing on some show that's supposed
- 40:19Speaker 8: to be appearing off-planet, so it kind of makes sense
- 40:21Speaker 8: as to why he's out there now.
- 40:23Speaker 7: He's out there because John banished him. He said, you
- 40:27Speaker 7: can't be here no more. This is my turf. Wander
- 40:30Speaker 7: off somewhere else.
- 40:31Speaker 3: We were talking about how the next time he shows up,
- 40:32Speaker 3: he can't have the gold tooth in his mouth. Like
- 40:34Speaker 3: that would be the best, you know, in the next
- 40:37Speaker 3: time we see guys, it's just gone. Like, you know,
- 40:40Speaker 3: I mean, he's.
- 40:41Speaker 6: Going to be a man. He's going to be a
- 40:42Speaker 6: man of tomorrow and Mr.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Miracle.
- 40:44Speaker 6: Is that what you're talking to?
- 40:45Speaker 2: Oh, they're doing a Mr.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Miracle animated.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Ah, well, that's a good way to do it.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Mr.
- 40:52Speaker 4: Miracle probably is better.
- 40:53Speaker 6: But he is returning for that.
- 40:55Speaker 2: So.
- 40:55Speaker 4: Okay. Yeah, he'll be a man of tomorrow.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Because we need more of Aaron Pierre punking him out.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 41:03Speaker 9: For y'all that have really engaged and watched the whole show,
- 41:07Speaker 9: one of the questions that I had was.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Were there any hints? I know, that's how I'm starting it.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Because it's true.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Because these are things that I would look for if
- 41:17Speaker 3: I was like, oh, I could watch this show.
- 41:18Speaker 2: It really does. I hear you.
- 41:19Speaker 6: So what's the question?
- 41:20Speaker 2: I thought you did watch the whole show. He did.
- 41:22Speaker 6: No, he was just watching it to know the details. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:28Speaker 9: But were there any teases of the actual other, the lanterns,
- 41:36Speaker 9: Olds or like the other, like the other colors.
- 41:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:39Speaker 9: But like in the way where it's not exactly telling
- 41:42Speaker 9: you explicitly that they're this color, but this person kind
- 41:46Speaker 9: of gives off what that other color is about. So
- 41:50Speaker 9: I was thinking about, um, shawty who like basically, uh,
- 41:54Speaker 9: ran down on, um, on John and was like, yo,
- 41:57Speaker 9: give me these bands.
- 41:58Speaker 6: A little orphan.
- 41:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Give me these bands.
- 42:01Speaker 3: Like that felt a little orangey. Like that felt a
- 42:03Speaker 3: little like, it could be argued. She took the back.
- 42:07Speaker 3: She took the money or she was asking for the
- 42:08Speaker 3: money and she took him for his watch. Like that's
- 42:10Speaker 3: kind of right.
- 42:11Speaker 6: He never gave that bitch back.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Yeah. You do it a lot. Like that's very orangey.
- 42:14Speaker 2: That's very great.
- 42:16Speaker 9: I mean, I think that is, are there any, like
- 42:18Speaker 9: it's hope around here somewhere?
- 42:19Speaker 5: Like, I mean, you know about fear, right? That was
- 42:25Speaker 5: very well displayed throughout this series, but... I think, like,
- 42:29Speaker 5: that was also a red herring, like, a lot of
- 42:31Speaker 5: things in this series. Like, the fact that it was
- 42:33Speaker 5: called lanterns and we immediately assumed the different colors, right? Like, no,
- 42:37Speaker 5: they didn't mean the fact that there's more than one
- 42:39Speaker 5: type and there's more than one way to be a
- 42:41Speaker 5: lantern and all these other, you know, esoteric reasons. So,
- 42:45Speaker 5: was there any other thing implied in the show? I mean,
- 42:48Speaker 5: besides what, you know, any.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Mr.
- 42:51Speaker 6: Fantastic stretches we was making like, sure.
- 42:53Speaker 5: But like, you know, I just think that's just the
- 42:56Speaker 5: internet doing it.
- 42:56Speaker 6: I don't think it was necessarily them.
- 42:58Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:59Speaker 4: And, and to be honest, yeah, no, go ahead.
- 43:02Speaker 8: No, the internet was stretching with, uh, who was the
- 43:05Speaker 8: Anton and his people talking about the red lanterns.
- 43:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 43:08Speaker 2: The red lantern. So that's as far as I saw.
- 43:10Speaker 2: I didn't see all the pieces. It's just too much
- 43:13Speaker 2: of a stress to me. I like shit like that.
- 43:15Speaker 6: That's cool.
- 43:16Speaker 2: I like that. Okay.
- 43:17Speaker 3: This is one thing. And in my point of this,
- 43:20Speaker 3: and there was even more than that. People thought Zoe
- 43:22Speaker 3: was a star Sapphire. People thought Zoe was Sinestro's granddaughter.
- 43:28Speaker 5: How the hell did you come to that conclusion?
- 43:31Speaker 2: That one felt racist. I keep saying that.
- 43:33Speaker 7: But I saw Sinestro don't seem like he liked humans.
- 43:35Speaker 7: Sinestro don't like children?
- 43:36Speaker 6: I'm like, I can't imagine him getting them.
- 43:38Speaker 4: He actually has a granddaughter in the comics.
- 43:40Speaker 6: Oh. That's human? Or Manhunter?
- 43:43Speaker 2: No, no.
- 43:44Speaker 3: She's red like him. And that's why I was like,
- 43:46Speaker 3: just because Zoe's an Indian woman.
- 43:48Speaker 4: It felt a bit racist. But my point is about
- 43:52Speaker 4: the colors.
- 43:53Speaker 3: People have been like obsessed about that when that's mainly
- 43:56Speaker 3: Jeff Johns and stuff that's come after Jeff Johns when
- 43:59Speaker 3: there's like 50, 60 years of Green Lantern before that
- 44:02Speaker 3: was ever a concept.
- 44:04Speaker 4: That's very like the last 20 years or less.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:09Speaker 3: And so it's even now, it's still not like the
- 44:11Speaker 3: focal point of every Green Lantern story that there's always
- 44:14Speaker 3: random colors flying around and stuff. It's just more, I
- 44:17Speaker 3: don't know. It was a cool thing at the time,
- 44:18Speaker 3: but I think it's kind of like the thing that's
- 44:20Speaker 3: over like done and over simplified to where it's people
- 44:24Speaker 3: are like, Oh, here's hope.
- 44:25Speaker 4: Here's fear.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Here's, you know, colors. And each one is part of
- 44:29Speaker 3: your emotional spectrum and all that. And it's, More than that,
- 44:32Speaker 3: like the Red Lanterns actually have a really deep lore
- 44:34Speaker 3: when you get into it, which I thought was dope.
- 44:35Speaker 3: But it's too much for one season of a show, man.
- 44:40Speaker 3: That's like, you know, it's like I get what people wanted.
- 44:42Speaker 3: And I'm not speaking to you, Trent. I'm speaking to
- 44:44Speaker 3: just people in general that people want all these things,
- 44:48Speaker 3: but then they don't want these things, right? The big
- 44:52Speaker 3: complaint about Marvel is it's always CGI fest. No character.
- 44:59Speaker 3: You know, you get full-on character development in this shit.
- 45:02Speaker 3: No villain, you know, no nothing. You get all of
- 45:04Speaker 3: that in the story. You get a whole mystery about
- 45:07Speaker 3: who the real villain is. You get all these villains
- 45:09Speaker 3: who aren't really villains, you know. And like Tatiana said,
- 45:13Speaker 3: for it to end on a message of love over
- 45:16Speaker 3: all that is really dope instead of a CGI battle.
- 45:19Speaker 3: But people are now mad that they didn't get a
- 45:22Speaker 3: CGI battle.
- 45:23Speaker 6: You know, it's... How can you be mad? You had
- 45:24Speaker 6: seven episodes of no CGI battle. Why would this one?
- 45:27Speaker 8: It's not what the show was given.
- 45:31Speaker 3: I don't get why people like you have to have
- 45:35Speaker 3: that when, you know, so many of the Marvel films
- 45:38Speaker 3: fall apart in the CGI battle.
- 45:40Speaker 6: I just can't... I honestly.
- 45:41Speaker 7: That's what I liked about this season is that we
- 45:45Speaker 7: are not forced to sit through more reasons why... And
- 45:49Speaker 7: that was my thought about the waterboarding to go back
- 45:52Speaker 7: to that. We open this first... Well, this final episode
- 45:58Speaker 7: with shin meats, like, just red on the ground. And
- 46:02Speaker 7: then we get waterboarding. And my question is... And then
- 46:06Speaker 7: we talk about, like, the cop thing over there. And
- 46:08Speaker 7: I'm just like, are we just... Like, desensitize as an
- 46:12Speaker 7: audience to these very grisly things.
- 46:14Speaker 6: Like, they're just, like, showing these things to us.
- 46:17Speaker 7: Like, they're just, like, normal things that we should just, like,
- 46:20Speaker 7: take in as an audience. Because, like, that... Like, I've never...
- 46:25Speaker 7: I don't care... who the character is that's being waterboarded,
- 46:28Speaker 7: I'm going to feel that.
- 46:29Speaker 2: I'm going to feel.
- 46:30Speaker 7: Like you have a human shin bleeding on the ground.
- 46:34Speaker 7: I know people who are into horror movies and stuff,
- 46:38Speaker 7: they love to see the blood and gore.
- 46:41Speaker 6: I never loved the blood and gore.
- 46:42Speaker 7: Of horror movies, but I like the psychological ones. I've
- 46:45Speaker 7: never gotten into that. But for me, that's why I
- 46:49Speaker 7: can't gel very well with shows that are just full, full,
- 46:52Speaker 7: full action, because a lot of the times it comes
- 46:54Speaker 7: down to, let's break somebody's arm. let's do something really
- 46:57Speaker 7: gory and i feel very sensitive about that stuff and
- 47:01Speaker 7: so like that stuff being in this finale episode and
- 47:04Speaker 7: like there's been other moments like that too but because
- 47:06Speaker 7: they put layers of like like zoe killing everyone and
- 47:10Speaker 7: rushville the way that she did like that was it
- 47:13Speaker 7: was truly fucked up it was devastating like i still
- 47:16Speaker 7: feel the ramifications of that in the show and so
- 47:20Speaker 7: I just, I think that, like, that's partially why I've
- 47:23Speaker 7: been very, very happy to not see a lot of wishbang. Let's, like,
- 47:28Speaker 7: beat everyone up. Let's have more explosions. Let's do all
- 47:31Speaker 7: this stuff that's going to, like.
- 47:33Speaker 6: Kill humanity.
- 47:34Speaker 7: Because I'm not, like, I don't need that. I'm tired
- 47:37Speaker 7: of that. And I'm tired of it being played off as, like, well,
- 47:40Speaker 7: now this is a superhero's plight. And I get that's
- 47:42Speaker 7: kind of what they did with Hal, right? Like, they
- 47:44Speaker 7: made him... take on the superhero plight of, like, well,
- 47:48Speaker 7: you broke it, now you bought it kind of thing
- 47:49Speaker 7: or whatever.
- 47:50Speaker 6: And he's going back to Atone and everything.
- 47:53Speaker 7: But I think that was good for me to see that, like,
- 47:58Speaker 7: Carrie was literally the reason why he came back because
- 48:00Speaker 7: she was there sitting for him outside of the jail
- 48:02Speaker 7: and brought him back to town. If she had not
- 48:04Speaker 7: done that, where would he have gone? Would he have
- 48:06Speaker 7: made the choice to go there?
- 48:07Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 48:07Speaker 7: And that's interesting to me. But I do think, like,
- 48:12Speaker 7: that was one of my bigger... likes of the season
- 48:15Speaker 7: is that they did not spend so much time doing
- 48:18Speaker 7: that because i don't want to continue to feel desensitized
- 48:20Speaker 7: to things um and also talking about being sensitive to
- 48:23Speaker 7: like brutal things um did is it was it just
- 48:28Speaker 7: me or did zoe force pregnancy on carrie yo.
- 48:32Speaker 5: Because she did because there's no immaculate conception type shit
- 48:39Speaker 5: here like I.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Was actually very uncomfortable about that.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I was super uncomfortable how they kind of just said
- 48:47Speaker 1: that as if it was.
- 48:49Speaker 2: slow down. You just made this lady pregnant. The most
- 48:53Speaker 2: Nebraska thing about the show.
- 48:55Speaker 5: And the thing is, and this could go over a
- 48:56Speaker 5: lot of people's heads because I think, and similar to
- 48:58Speaker 5: how you're, what you're saying, Portia, I think Damon and
- 49:00Speaker 5: the rest of the team, the writing team, you know, Vanessa, Bain,
- 49:02Speaker 5: and Kelly, everybody, Justin, they did feel that the level
- 49:08Speaker 5: of violence, like how much it is... when I say important,
- 49:11Speaker 5: I mean how important it is to be careful with
- 49:14Speaker 5: that because, you know, again, using the warden boarding scene,
- 49:17Speaker 5: like I, me, myself personally, I felt it when I
- 49:20Speaker 5: saw that. Like, it didn't feel like some other scenes
- 49:23Speaker 5: or something. Like, it was like, you are torturing.
- 49:26Speaker 6: Yes, he's red, but you're torturing a person. You're torturing
- 49:28Speaker 6: a being. That's a lot.
- 49:30Speaker 5: And then to hear that, what Carrie said about the pregnancy,
- 49:34Speaker 5: I immediately thought, OK, this was against your will.
- 49:36Speaker 6: Because you're a human. You don't know how these machines work.
- 49:39Speaker 5: And for Carrie just to brush it off and say, well,
- 49:41Speaker 5: something must have went wrong.
- 49:43Speaker 6: And all of a sudden I was pregnant.
- 49:45Speaker 5: That means you don't have the power in this situation.
- 49:48Speaker 6: She hasn't processed it well.
- 49:50Speaker 5: You haven't processed it. You know how they say when
- 49:54Speaker 5: it comes to power dynamics. If your boss says something
- 49:56Speaker 5: to you, they have the power over you. Therefore, they
- 49:59Speaker 5: have the responsibility not to.
- 50:00Speaker 6: Do shit like that. Zoe used her.
- 50:03Speaker 5: And impregnated her against the will on purpose, amongst other things.
- 50:07Speaker 5: And it's just... speaks more to the deception and to
- 50:11Speaker 5: the violence and to how brutal all that stuff is.
- 50:14Speaker 5: Like Carrie even said, she said she didn't even want
- 50:16Speaker 5: to be, she never wanted a kid. So now you're
- 50:18Speaker 5: forced to carry a kid. And yes, you grew up,
- 50:20Speaker 5: grew to love it and all that shit, but that's
- 50:22Speaker 5: not the point.
- 50:23Speaker 1: There's a, there's a, there's a way bigger conversation to
- 50:27Speaker 1: have about the, the ramifications of that. Just, just that
- 50:31Speaker 1: part of it, especially being that we're talking about Nebraska.
- 50:34Speaker 1: We're talking about a young woman who was on the
- 50:36Speaker 1: run and, and, and, and scared of, And in a very,
- 50:39Speaker 1: very tough spot, being forced to have a child.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Against her will.
- 50:44Speaker 6: She thought she was getting a finger and got injured.
- 50:47Speaker 7: A baby. But not even just like any human baby.
- 50:50Speaker 7: And I'm sorry to get to the point, but like
- 50:51Speaker 7: with a manhunter.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Yeah, with a manhunter.
- 50:54Speaker 5: Once you know what a manhunter is and you have
- 50:57Speaker 5: you have that you know firsthand knowledge of what that
- 50:59Speaker 5: is that no that shit was a violation literally a
- 51:02Speaker 5: violation that shit was wild to me and made me
- 51:04Speaker 5: dislike zoe even more like i again that's why i
- 51:08Speaker 5: rolled my eyes again on the poc solidarity stuff i
- 51:10Speaker 5: was just like the same ladies And I understand Noah's
- 51:15Speaker 5: supposed to be a little different because he's half human,
- 51:18Speaker 5: but it is in the Manhunter's nature to do shit
- 51:21Speaker 5: like this.
- 51:21Speaker 6: Everything they do is a transaction.
- 51:23Speaker 4: There it is. And manipulative. That's the point.
- 51:27Speaker 2: The whole POC conversation was meant to be.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Her manipulating him. I love that in this episode, Sinestro...
- 51:35Speaker 3: His manipulation was amazing.
- 51:39Speaker 5: He was doing double speak right in.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Front of everybody.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Right in front of them. He's like, oh, the shit
- 51:43Speaker 3: didn't work on Hal? Well, John, how do you.
- 51:45Speaker 4: Feel about this?
- 51:46Speaker 2: Let me see if the hard stuff works on you then.
- 51:48Speaker 2: He was like, are you not going for it?
- 51:51Speaker 6: Well, what about you?
- 51:51Speaker 5: He did it without a beat.
- 51:54Speaker 3: Without a beat. He was like a dude at the bar,
- 51:56Speaker 3: you know, talking to a shorty and he's like, oh,
- 51:58Speaker 3: that don't work? How about your friend then?
- 52:00Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 52:00Speaker 2: You know, you're the most beautiful girl up in here. Oh, nah. Oh,
- 52:04Speaker 2: you know, you're the most beautiful girl up in here.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Let me show you this thing I done built. You know?
- 52:07Speaker 2: He changed his tone.
- 52:09Speaker 5: He didn't even change the words.
- 52:12Speaker 6: He just said, well, this bitch don't work in my words.
- 52:15Speaker 2: You know, like.
- 52:15Speaker 3: And just acted like the motherfucker wasn't there anymore. Like,
- 52:18Speaker 3: I wasn't just talking to you, Al.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Wow.
- 52:21Speaker 5: But that tells you, like, the manipulation is at... expert
- 52:25Speaker 5: levels i mean it made me.
- 52:26Speaker 6: Like was it effective.
- 52:28Speaker 3: No that's the point i was about to say i
- 52:31Speaker 3: won't say i won't say expert i would say at
- 52:33Speaker 3: desperate levels it's also the dude in the bar like.
- 52:36Speaker 5: Desperate you know i have a question was it effective because.
- 52:40Speaker 3: What happened in the end he got waterboarded that's what
- 52:43Speaker 3: happened he.
- 52:44Speaker 7: Got left on a on.
- 52:48Speaker 5: The land episode the end of the episode what happened
- 52:50Speaker 5: at the end what Sinestro wanted in the first place.
- 52:53Speaker 5: He told him, charge the fucking ring. At the end
- 52:56Speaker 5: of the day, regardless of how it came about.
- 52:57Speaker 2: He did charge it.
- 52:57Speaker 3: It worked.
- 52:58Speaker 6: He charged it.
- 52:59Speaker 2: Okay, but does that.
- 53:00Speaker 6: What he really wanted was to get off that plane.
- 53:02Speaker 6: To get off the island. I already know.
- 53:05Speaker 2: He could have been manipulating. He could have been like, yo, please.
- 53:08Speaker 6: He's like, I really want to live here. I can't
- 53:10Speaker 6: go anywhere else.
- 53:11Speaker 2: I hate it here. And then he just.
- 53:13Speaker 9: He started building a whole bunch of shit. I'm telling you,
- 53:15Speaker 9: the next time I go back to that island, it's
- 53:16Speaker 9: going to be.
- 53:17Speaker 2: He's going to have a pool.
- 53:19Speaker 3: He's going to be a whole different shit. He's going
- 53:25Speaker 3: to be like coming to America when they hit it
- 53:29Speaker 3: out the projects. Please don't leave me here by myself
- 53:32Speaker 3: so I can do everything I fucking want.
- 53:37Speaker 1: I do want to go back to what Portia was
- 53:39Speaker 1: saying about desensitization and watching certain things happen because I
- 53:45Speaker 1: do feel two ways about that one one of my
- 53:48Speaker 1: favorite lines in media in in film history is i
- 53:54Speaker 1: felt a great disturbance in the force as if the
- 53:57Speaker 1: voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced
- 54:00Speaker 1: right yeah you don't see a thing you feel the
- 54:03Speaker 1: weight yes alderaan i believe is the name of the
- 54:06Speaker 1: planet yeah you feel the weight of that planet being destroyed.
- 54:11Speaker 2: And you yeah you never even you know get a,
- 54:14Speaker 2: get a shot there. You know what I mean?
- 54:16Speaker 3: You never even see Alderaan in the whole movie. It's
- 54:18Speaker 3: blown up from a distance.
- 54:20Speaker 1: But you, but you feel that when, when Obi-Wan says
- 54:23Speaker 1: that line. So I do think there was a time
- 54:26Speaker 1: where we could have felt something more before, you know,
- 54:30Speaker 1: without even, without even having a visual representation of it.
- 54:34Speaker 1: But when it comes to Sinestro being waterboarded, I didn't
- 54:38Speaker 1: care because he was an alien.
- 54:39Speaker 2: And I know that that's probably what the ask was.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Wait a minute.
- 54:43Speaker 5: I know.
- 54:44Speaker 8: But he looked like a regular nigga.
- 54:48Speaker 3: That's the thing. That's why I was like, yo. Man said, oh,
- 54:52Speaker 3: he's a different color.
- 54:53Speaker 2: I don't care about that. Jesus Christ. That is not
- 54:57Speaker 2: what he said. So that's not like Dr. Robotnik, bro.
- 55:01Speaker 2: He look like a regular sweaty red man. I mean,
- 55:04Speaker 2: like I said, people.
- 55:06Speaker 3: Thought Zoey was his granddaughter and you over here.
- 55:09Speaker 2: Like, fuck this guy.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Because I asked myself the question, I asked it while
- 55:13Speaker 1: I was watching it, am I okay with this?
- 55:14Speaker 2: And I told myself yes. Yeah.
- 55:17Speaker 3: And I don't feel good about that. All it got
- 55:19Speaker 3: to do is change the tint on the screen and you,
- 55:22Speaker 3: you know.
- 55:22Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with how you feel, Hod.
- 55:23Speaker 1: If John did that to anybody else, I would have,
- 55:26Speaker 1: I genuinely would have been like, wow.
- 55:28Speaker 2: I mean, you could say he's the villain. You're a
- 55:30Speaker 2: worse person than I thought you were. But you said
- 55:31Speaker 2: an alien.
- 55:31Speaker 6: I'm trying to change his mind. That's how he felt.
- 55:34Speaker 3: I'm trying to help this man out before it goes live.
- 55:37Speaker 2: We already got Trent over here.
- 55:39Speaker 5: No.
- 55:40Speaker 2: You were talking.
- 55:41Speaker 5: No, Todd, you're talking just like Macon was talking when
- 55:44Speaker 5: he was just like, I'm not for this extraterrestrial bullshit.
- 55:48Speaker 6: He said, are you from this planet? Remember he said
- 55:50Speaker 6: that in the.
- 55:51Speaker 2: Very beginning, the white man.
- 55:52Speaker 6: You would have been part of his militia.
- 55:55Speaker 4: I don't think you're making a better time.
- 55:56Speaker 5: I did.
- 55:57Speaker 2: How do I even know? How do I know? Okay, yeah.
- 56:00Speaker 1: He had a humanoid face. How do I know his
- 56:02Speaker 1: nose is connected to his lungs? His lungs could have
- 56:06Speaker 1: been in his feet.
- 56:08Speaker 3: He don't even know what a waterboarding is for real.
- 56:10Speaker 3: How is he supposed to know it's that bad?
- 56:12Speaker 2: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait
- 56:14Speaker 2: a minute.
- 56:14Speaker 6: Wait a minute.
- 56:14Speaker 7: Hot.
- 56:15Speaker 6: So I have a question for you.
- 56:15Speaker 2: So....
- 56:17Speaker 4: I got a lot of questions.
- 56:19Speaker 5: If it's a living being that's being tortured, if you
- 56:22Speaker 5: can't connect, if you personally, I'm talking based on what
- 56:25Speaker 5: you just said, if you don't see them as at
- 56:27Speaker 5: least human or humanoid, you don't feel for it?
- 56:32Speaker 2: Or them? So....
- 56:36Speaker 3: Well, no. Ain't nobody got him walked out. He walking himself.
- 56:43Speaker 3: Like I said, I was trying to help out.
- 56:44Speaker 2: It really depends. I'm not trying to help nothing.
- 56:46Speaker 5: I'm just, I'm not even trying to change your mind.
- 56:49Speaker 5: I just want to understand what are you thinking?
- 56:52Speaker 2: Okay. So for instance, let's take it, let's take it
- 56:55Speaker 2: a different way. Like hunting, right?
- 56:57Speaker 1: So like I would never hunt rabbits. I would never
- 57:00Speaker 1: hunt like small animals, but I might, go bear hunting
- 57:05Speaker 1: I might go because to me because to me if
- 57:10Speaker 1: the animal has just as much of an opportunity to
- 57:13Speaker 1: kill me as I to kill it and I just.
- 57:15Speaker 6: Happen to win did y'all see the revenant.
- 57:21Speaker 2: I would rather.
- 57:23Speaker 8: Get a shot than take a bear snap tomorrow this.
- 57:28Speaker 3: Is what i'm saying i mean i'm not sure no
- 57:33Speaker 3: um yeah i think both i mean if that's how
- 57:35Speaker 3: you feel that's how you feel it's.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Just interesting i did not.
- 57:42Speaker 1: I did not take points off of John's heroism because
- 57:45Speaker 1: he waterboarded.
- 57:47Speaker 5: I will agree with you there. I didn't take points
- 57:49Speaker 5: off of John. I agree with you there. I didn't say, oh,
- 57:53Speaker 5: you're a horrible person because as Ben Amin said earlier,
- 57:55Speaker 5: nobody's a hero.
- 57:57Speaker 6: Nobody's a hero.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Nobody's a villain.
- 57:58Speaker 5: Niggas do shit that have to get done in the moment.
- 58:00Speaker 2: Whatever, right?
- 58:01Speaker 6: I still thought it.
- 58:02Speaker 5: Was fucked up.
- 58:04Speaker 2: Do you think John does that to a person? Do
- 58:06Speaker 2: you think he does that to a person? Yes, yes, yes.
- 58:09Speaker 2: John would do that to a rabbit.
- 58:11Speaker 6: Use your rabbit example.
- 58:12Speaker 8: That's definitely not his first time doing that.
- 58:14Speaker 2: He's in the military. Fair, fair, fair.
- 58:18Speaker 3: I take mad points off John.
- 58:20Speaker 2: What are y'all talking about?
- 58:21Speaker 3: That dude was wily.
- 58:24Speaker 2: I'm going to.
- 58:26Speaker 7: Say I didn't have a lot of points for John.
- 58:28Speaker 7: As soon as I learned he was a military man
- 58:29Speaker 7: and he was a sniper, I was like, oh, John.
- 58:31Speaker 2: I He's got bodies.
- 58:33Speaker 6: He's got bodies. I'm not taking points off the man's
- 58:37Speaker 6: that's already imperfect.
- 58:38Speaker 5: For what?
- 58:39Speaker 6: He's doing what he needed to do in the moment.
- 58:40Speaker 6: So what? I still think it was fucked up. Waterboarding
- 58:45Speaker 6: is never necessary.
- 58:46Speaker 5: I'm not going to say it's never necessary.
- 58:49Speaker 3: In this universe, waterboarding is the worst thing that could
- 58:52Speaker 3: have happened in the universe.
- 58:53Speaker 6: It's the worst thing that could have happened in the universe.
- 58:56Speaker 2: It wasn't even just regular waterboarding.
- 58:58Speaker 8: Whenever he was going down, he was in.
- 59:00Speaker 2: His biggest fear.
- 59:01Speaker 3: Put him on that fucking it was fear toxic water
- 59:05Speaker 3: yeah for sure when you think about that that makes
- 59:08Speaker 3: it worse that was even way worse.
- 59:10Speaker 6: It was waterboarding times 35. Like, it was that.
- 59:13Speaker 2: And y'all are over here like, oh, well.
- 59:17Speaker 8: When you're down there.
- 59:20Speaker 5: I felt disturbed by that.
- 59:23Speaker 2: If only you'd been a little more pink.
- 59:24Speaker 6: John was doing, we had to do another one.
- 59:27Speaker 2: You know what I just thought about?
- 59:28Speaker 9: He was teaching Sinestro that tactic. Sinestro going to be
- 59:33Speaker 9: waterboarding crazy in the next season. He going to be waterboarding.
- 59:36Speaker 2: Everybody, man.
- 59:37Speaker 3: He just took a whole new tactic. He's like, yo, honestly,
- 59:39Speaker 3: I was kind of scared.
- 59:41Speaker 5: Sinestro was like, wow, don't do that again.
- 59:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that shit was not. Like, whoa. It's like, damn, America,
- 59:46Speaker 2: they got it.
- 59:46Speaker 6: Shit, it is.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Shit, a new sensation. I ain't never been that scared.
- 59:52Speaker 2: That's the scariest thing. I should do this to all
- 59:54Speaker 2: the victims.
- 59:55Speaker 7: Instead of taking an oath for that ring, he's going
- 59:58Speaker 7: to have everybody get, like, instead of baptism, it's going
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: to be waterboarding.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: That's the hazing.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: That literally is what the Yellowlanders are about.
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: You have to overcome your greatest fear.
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: Let's be real that's a real reason it's a other
- 1:00:12Speaker 7: kind of baptism for them.
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: That part and let's be real the real reason why
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: there has to be a specific lantern for earth is
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: because of america america's on some other type of.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Time other shit america has a problem.
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: How did y'all feel about that new oath?
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Oh, I love the new oath. As soon as Hal
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: was like, as soon as John was like, yo, I'm
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: not feeling an oath, I knew exactly what he was
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: talking about. I knew that a black man can't say,
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: in black is night. Shit sounds wild. Like, shit sounds racist. Again,
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: you know, like, the idea that black is the most
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: evil thing, you know, all the fear comes from black
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: is wild for a black man to say. So I
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: knew that was the point. And I love that, you know,
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: they switched it up to In Darkest Night. And I
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: love that it's pissing off comic book fans who think
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: that they somehow desecrated the oath. When, as I pointed out,
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: most of the different Green Lanterns have different oaths. It's
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: not just.
- 1:01:09Speaker 7: Bitch, shut up.
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: Even within the Green Lantern Corps itself.
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: Yeah, like I pointed out.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: How there's one who comes from a sector where there
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: is no light. So the idea of light and stars
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: and all this mean nothing to them. So the oath
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: is all vibration based and stuff. But there was a panel,
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: someone posted it, where it's like dozens of green lanterns
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: and all of them have different variations of the oath.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: That's funny. People just act like.
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: People just keep telling on themselves that they.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: Don't know shit.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they tell on themselves all the time.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: You purport to know everything, but you don't.
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: But it's okay not to know. It's okay not to
- 1:01:48Speaker 7: know everything, but go ask some questions.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: And don't get in my mentions telling me that, you know,
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: this show is shit and it disrespected the.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: Green Lantern Corps, desecrated Hal.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: And, like, I'll even say that this, like, for me,
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: I keep talking about this, and it's just really messed up.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: The author of, like, the Green Lantern comic books that
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: I read as a kid is a straight-up... I don't
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: even want to say it on here, you know, but
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: those books will never be reprinted for things that this
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: man has done, basically.
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: He's a racist?
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: No, he's a PDF.
- 1:02:21Speaker 8: Oh!
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Yeah, so.
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: Yeah, we.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: Can't talk about that.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's what I'm saying. So those books will
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: never be reprinted, but those were the books... And there's other,
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: you know, people have done the same take on Green Lantern.
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: But when I was reading as a kid, how come
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: back to Earth? He was sick of space. He was
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: sick of the Green Lantern Corps. He was sick of
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: all that. And the whole series was him just going
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: around and trying not to use the ring.
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: And so that was the Green Lantern I grew up on.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: And Jon Stewart was the Green Lantern in space at
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: that time. Guy Gardner was flying around on Earth. And
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: so I always, you know, that's how I loved it.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: You know, this downtrodden, beat up Hal. So this is
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: perfect for me. And then when you get the younger,
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: the 2016 dude who's not in, like, all the interactions
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: in this episode between them, like me and Rodimus were
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: talking about it. The I love you too, Junior is... Yeah, man. Man, listen.
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: We talked about how Carlton Jr.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: Hit different now.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it hit so different because throughout it, you know,
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: we were like, that was so wildly disrespectful for him
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: to keep Carlton Jr.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: But in this, it was a father-son moment.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: Can I? Portia got a.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Reclaim the slur. Don't call me Junior. Don't be Junior.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Because really, when you call me Junior, you call me
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: a bitch.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: That's what you sound like when you call me a bitch.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: At the end, he's like, I love you, bitch. But
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: that was straight up through the whole conversation. That was
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: my other favorite part of it. It's like, you got
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: little hands. You can wear that jewelry. And he's like,
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: shut the fuck up.
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: It's the same ring that you had on your hand, sir.
- 1:03:52Speaker 11: Yeah, I know.
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: That's the point. That's the point.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: They're ripping each other like brothers do. And that's how,
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: you know, it's like, I loved all of that, you know?
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: For the Junior comment, I thought, like, the extra layers
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: of that was the fact that this is the hologram
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: saying it, so he doesn't even know that his 2016
- 1:04:08Speaker 7: version was calling him Junior.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: He just knows... What's the horror?
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: He just knows himself well enough that he's like, Junior
- 1:04:15Speaker 7: might mean something to him if I say it. Like,
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: it might be resonant to something that I did say
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: to him when I did meet him. And so, like,
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: I think that's really cute that, like, 2006 version of
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: Hal had an echo. He's not even, like, he's not
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: up to date with, like, this version of john at
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: all and or his the version of john the version
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: of himself that john interacted with yeah and he can
- 1:04:37Speaker 7: still like make it a like a give him a
- 1:04:40Speaker 7: healing factor for who he did interact with in 2016
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: yeah i.
- 1:04:44Speaker 9: Will say 100 those last two episodes really did like
- 1:04:47Speaker 9: a full like turnaround on how you feel about how
- 1:04:51Speaker 9: for real like because for the first five, six episodes,
- 1:04:55Speaker 9: you're like, this guy kind of sucks. I know that's
- 1:04:57Speaker 9: kind of the point. He's very arrogant and stuff like that.
- 1:05:00Speaker 9: But he'd be right about a lot of shit. If
- 1:05:02Speaker 9: you were to watch the series over and keep calling
- 1:05:05Speaker 9: out all this stuff of like, nah, that's bullshit.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: He's lying. She's lying. All that stuff.
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: He wasn't wrong.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: He called Carrie Conner. Yeah.
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: I got a question for y'all. Did y'all grow up
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: with white men? Like around you?
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: All my teachers.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Like, closely?
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: You have white friends? All that type of stuff?
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: No. Not white friends, but white teachers and stuff.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: No, okay, no white friends. So you were never in, like,
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: white kids' houses and never saw their parents around you, all.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: That type of stuff?
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: Lots of us, yeah.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: Never had them closely? No, no, I'm talking about younger, yeah,
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: when they just fully out their mind. no i'm asking
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: that because like when people say that they did dislike
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: how's character to me he was just the average white
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: person that i knew.
- 1:05:53Speaker 7: You know my whole life and i i don't like
- 1:05:57Speaker 7: i don't like men that do that shit no i've.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: Never liked that okay like what what shit because there's
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: like things i don't like about how but it was
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: also things that i just love that this is how white.
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: Men act what like they can't they're untouchable that they
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: have no consequence to say whatever they want and I've
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: never liked that shit yeah.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: I don't like any of this but it's like a
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: positive way you're supposed to take that my white friends
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: I grew up with weren't like that with me you
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: know one but their parents.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Would be you know I grew up with the.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Get out parents you know like I've said before on
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: this show like I would have voted for Obama three
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: times you know that type of shit and it was
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: like you know just the white liberal yeah but also
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: yeah just pure, not even pure, but just.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: They're so well-spoken.
- 1:06:40Speaker 11: Yes!
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: You know, that type of shit.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: One of the good ones type. Would just say.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: Wild shit every now and again, but like, you know,
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: Vanessa said on the show, would also give you their liver,
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: you know? Those are the white dudes, you know, white
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: parents I grew up with who love me like their
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: own kid, but were also.
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: Just a bit.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Questionable.
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was like, so I'm used to, especially
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: growing up in Houston, like, she called them techs, like,
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: I'm used to you know, a very in-your-face white racist
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: type of thing where it's like they just say this
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: shit and half the time don't even realize what they're saying.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: It's just ingrained in them. Did you guys see One
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Night in Miami? It came out a few years ago.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: I feel like I did.
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: Where it has, like, the different... Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: Where all of them are... Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: Malcolm X and all that. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: So there was a scene early in the movie, right,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: where Jim Brown goes to his old.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: Coach's house or something like that. And they're sitting on
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: a porch and they're rapping. He's like, man, I'm so
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: proud of you. Uh, you know, you, you, you've done
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: so well for yourself, man. And, uh, he's like, Oh,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: all right. Well, um, I don't know if he asked
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: him to use the bathroom or something.
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: He said, you can't go inside.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: He said, come on, Jim. You know I don't let
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: niggas in the house. That's another level.
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: That's literally it.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: It's so funny.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: We were talking about that with Rodimus. He said, Hal
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Jordan isn't racist enough to be a Southern basketball coach.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: In 2026, he would have to add a little bit
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: more racism.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: Hal Jordan is.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: The white person that's like, I can't be racist. I
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: hate everybody equally. He's that type there we go you
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: that type of white person but like that's still a
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: little racist yeah still racist but I hate you all
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: like alright bro like Only one I like is my dog,
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: which he had that plan.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: He had how? Earl.
- 1:08:32Speaker 7: And I love that Earl ends up with the Stewart family.
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: I thought that was fun because they have been wanting
- 1:08:37Speaker 7: extraterrestrial stuff their whole life. And so the fact that
- 1:08:40Speaker 7: he ends up living with the Stewarts, it's like they
- 1:08:42Speaker 7: finally get a touch of a little alien thing that
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: they've been always wanting to have.
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: A little shop of harvests right there. Very cute.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: And John don't eat it.
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: I do have a question for everyone.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: I know she's been bugging throughout this season, but how much,
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: was this is my first note before waterboarding how much
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: was terry bugging.
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: In general about how well this episode.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: Like the note came when you know in the restaurant
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: scene when she tells everyone i've lost just as much
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: as you have and i know she lost her grandmother
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: But if I lost a kid or somebody up in that,
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: you know, I don't know.
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: Ben, when I immediately imagined myself, I was in that
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: restaurant trying to enjoy my dinner when this bitch ass
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: Hal walks in and then his lady is eating with him.
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: And she says this bullshit. The first thing I thought
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: in my head was shut up, bitch. Like, because I
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: was like.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: What do you mean? You didn't lose nobody.
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: Yeah grandmother the mother no.
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: That was her husband excuse me she lost her fake
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: her adopted her adopted mother her father-in-law.
- 1:09:53Speaker 7: Yeah and the facilities and everything that was set up
- 1:09:57Speaker 7: for her to be powerful within the.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Town she was still sheriff I wasn't supposed to have
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: this baby.
- 1:10:06Speaker 8: You made me this. You weren't even supposed to be
- 1:10:08Speaker 8: all that to me. This was supposed to be just like, hey,
- 1:10:10Speaker 8: I do you a favor. You do me a favor,
- 1:10:12Speaker 8: I do you a favor too. But it's way more
- 1:10:15Speaker 8: than I've signed up for.
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: Yeah, well, you know, to Carrie, she lost as much
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: as anybody else.
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: Carrie pissed me off this whole season.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:22Speaker 8: First of all, I think she kind of overreacted by
- 1:10:24Speaker 8: shooting Cal.
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: It's also a little bit of an overreaction.
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: I agree with you, Dane.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: This is also a police officer, a real, like, this
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: is the realest.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: He's a police officer in Nebraska.
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: This is the realest reaction they have.
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: Immediately pull out the gun and shoot somebody.
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: Trent, there's the copaganda you was looking for.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean.
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: It's all throughout. It's the whole thing. I got mad
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: screen grabs of shit I don't want to see. When
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: John shows up and all them cops is aiming their
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: guns at him, I'm like, hell no, I don't want
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: to see this.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: They're not no cops. They're not cops. They're just some
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: militia guys. Yeah, the vigilantes. Them Proud Boys. Like, the
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: fuck we talking about? They were Proud Boys.
- 1:11:06Speaker 9: When he was when he was chilling that when he
- 1:11:08Speaker 9: rang that little bell not the bell the little lantern
- 1:11:10Speaker 9: light and shit like that and all them people came
- 1:11:12Speaker 9: what you doing here boy like that was crazy there.
- 1:11:14Speaker 7: But that's like those are the people who think they're
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: cops like that's not like that's why people who their
- 1:11:18Speaker 7: culture is to police other people they police themselves they
- 1:11:22Speaker 7: police us like that's the that's how white culture is
- 1:11:24Speaker 7: and that's the fucking sidebar real sidebar.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: Yeah not gonna lie it's kind of fun I called
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: my HOA on somebody earlier this week.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: It's not bad It's not bad. Everyone should.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: Boy, Had, you were just.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: Man, I was like.
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: The hole that you had dug.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: I'm just saying. I mean, we thought Had was... You know,
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: we thought John was in one.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: Like, it's... Had's like, let me join him down there.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: It's like....
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: I did have something with.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: I'm a slumlord. Before we get.
- 1:11:59Speaker 7: Off of Carrie and her shooting hell, initially I was like,
- 1:12:04Speaker 7: is she programmed?
- 1:12:06Speaker 6: We kept talking about programming in this episode.
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:12:09Speaker 7: How Jon Stewart is programmed by the military. How the
- 1:12:13Speaker 7: Manhunters are literally programmed in their DNA or whatever.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:17Speaker 7: And I'm like, is Carrie kind of, like, programmed from, like,
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: the cop part, the mother over an alien son part
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: or whatever? Is she, like, responding to programming like, if, like,
- 1:12:29Speaker 7: or possibly from, like, literal programming from Zoe that, like,
- 1:12:32Speaker 7: if this child is in danger, immediately shoot.
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: Like, you gotta... I mean, she's part of a cult. Yeah.
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: It's a little bit of both. A little bit of A,
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: a little.
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: Bit of B.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: I think it's absolutely a mixture.
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: As a mother, I will say that I will do
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: anything to protect my children, right?
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: Like, no matter what. And I don't need to be
- 1:12:50Speaker 6: programmed for that. That's just.
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: Or if you want to call it programming, that is
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: your maternal natural programming, right?
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: And.
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: On top of that, you got Zoe whispering shit in
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: her ear for all these years. So, probably, right? The
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: level of immediacy that gunshot.
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: Was, you know.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: She didn't even think about it.
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: And then she was, like, shocked about the fact that
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: she shot him. She was like, oh, shit. I just
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: shot him. Police.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: Police.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: You got a triple threat right there. You got a mom,
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: you know, defending their child. You got police. And you got,
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: an alien in.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: Your ear underground yeah you got you know an easy
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: alibi no cameras.
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: Are on you know yeah small town you could get
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: away with murder literally.
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: Yeah she was like shit you know we all don't
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: like Hal you know she probably found him slightly annoying
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: as well did.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: We get a scene uh at the end of her
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: in jail no no.
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: She didn't get no no no she doesn't go to jail.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah cause she said she would turn herself in
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: but John said he didn't have she didn't have to.
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: He said specifically that Hal.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: Wouldn't want that.
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: Wait, I took that completely differently.
- 1:14:02Speaker 7: I took him saying, because what she asked was, can
- 1:14:05Speaker 7: I at least finish this game before I turn myself in?
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: And John says, I don't think Hal would like that.
- 1:14:09Speaker 7: I took that from him saying, I don't think Hal
- 1:14:11Speaker 7: would like you watching yourself.
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: Like, I don't think you should, like, you like to
- 1:14:14Speaker 6: be free.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: No, no, no. He don't want, no.
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: How, listen, Hal is the same nigga that was fucking
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: with his cowboy boots on. He would not want to
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: see her go to jail.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: Yes. At all. I mean, sometimes the grippy helps.
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: You need that. You need some, you know.
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: The cowboy?
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know about that choice, but sometimes that's
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: all you got.
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: You know, I don't know.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: You feel me? Yeah. What is this? Is that going
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: to be all you got? My bad, my bad. No,
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: I don't understand that choice. I feel like cowboy boots
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: are not going to offer any traction.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: I was going to say the same. They have no traction.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like your feet are going to.
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: That's off topic.
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: You know, perhaps that's what Carrie, you know, is into.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: He was too.
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: Stepping into the pussy.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: I get it.
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: But that's not what the topic is.
- 1:15:02Speaker 5: The topic is the fact that that comment, I don't
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: think Hal would have wanted that. He really was referring
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: to the fact that he wouldn't want her to turn
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: herself in. Like, at the end of the day, Hal
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: died in love, right? He said, I love you. He
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: got popped for it.
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: End of that.
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: He still.
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: I still could see him. Even his hologram was just like, okay.
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: You know, it was like, oh, well, it was probably...
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: Knowing who Hal is, knowing what we know about Hal,
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: that tracked with his character. That you would not want
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: to see his girl go down. Even for killing him,
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: he wouldn't want to see that.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: Okay, now I have a question. That was actually his
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: last line. That's what he was saying as she shot
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: him in the face?
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: He said, I love.
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: He said, God damn it, I love you.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't hear that either.
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: John repeated it.
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: I thought John was kind of like, you know, being
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: kind and giving him a good moment.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Watch it back again.
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: Turn on your closed caption. That's what he said.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Okay, got it.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: It feels different now?
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: No, I mean, like, she's a pure cop.
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: Like, now it just feels like....
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Please, honey, no, please. Blah, you know, he just sat
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: perfectly down. Yeah, that was, that was, you know, my
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: man was defeated.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: I kind of did think for a second that he
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: might've done it to himself, like as a way to protect, um,
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: you know, uh, Carrie and Noah, I, you know, I
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: thought at least for a second that he might've.
- 1:16:31Speaker 9: That sequencing episode, I think they purposely waited till, like,
- 1:16:35Speaker 9: put that episode seven in there because what.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: You learn about how... Yeah. What was it called?
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: The, um.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: What was it? The Jordan Boy's Legacy.
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: The Jordan Boy's Legacy.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: The Jordan Boy's Legacy.
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:47Speaker 9: Also, as a standalone episode, kind of, like, that baseball being, like, a.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: The symbol.
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: I get it. I like that.
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: They did a complete flip on Hal's character and made
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: him look like some other person, but I still don't
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: fuck with her.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: Give me everything you want. I still don't care. It
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: gave me Last of Us 2 vibes. It did.
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: It was just.
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: Very much like... I.
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: Mean, that's extreme because I don't fuck with, you know,
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: Joel or Ellie.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: Joel should have died... Never mind.
- 1:17:20Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't fuck with either of them. He should
- 1:17:23Speaker 9: have died in one. When he was riding that horse
- 1:17:25Speaker 9: and fell off... When he fell off on that.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: Fucking rusty pipe and shit, no normal person would have
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: survived that shit.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: He should have been dead. He should have died in one.
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: Yeah, well, that being said, I can't compare, you know, Joel,
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: who slaughters indiscriminately, to Hal Jordan, who.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: No, that's fair, that's fair.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: I was actually talking about Abby as far as, like,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: you present this person as a piece of shit, as
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: the one, as the antagonist to the person you're clearly
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: rooting for, and then later on, you try to give
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: them this, like, Like, oh, well, the reason why they're
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: doing it is there's a much larger reason for it.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: And it's just like, I already don't give a fuck.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: And again, I think that's part of my like lack
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: of empathy, I guess, or just like compassion for stories
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: for storytellers. But I just didn't give a fuck about
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: how even I got it.
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: I mean, that's the answer. You said you lack empathy.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: Yeah, because you down for waterboarding red people. So, bro,
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: I can't.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: Yo, that sounds crazy. I mean, it sounded crazy when
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: you said it, bro. I'm sorry.
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: Like, I just, you know.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: I mean, it's fine.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: You said aliens are no good.
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: Initially i was with you like i also.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: Fictional aliens in there.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Right like if they looked like i was gonna ask
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: y'all when like my man looks humanoid like y'all still
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: care if they actually looked like aliens because Sinestro like
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: I said he just looked like a sweaty like I
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: would still wear it.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: I would wear it.
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: And the kind of element was the same, and it
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: was just an alien.
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: If that was waterboard or ET, you'd be like, oh.
- 1:19:05Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: That would be worse.
- 1:19:07Speaker 6: If it was ET, it'd be even worse. It'd be like,
- 1:19:09Speaker 6: he's like a little, he's just stuck in.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: You could have went with a xenomorph or something. Yeah,
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: ET's not a good example.
- 1:19:15Speaker 7: These aliens don't even know what waterboarding is.
- 1:19:25Speaker 6: Yes, they have their own forms of torture. Maybe, maybe not.
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: But the fact that we are imparting one of the
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: strengths of America onto them, that's some shit.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: What's waterboarding?
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: Was it invented in America? No, it's not invented.
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: I'm just saying that's one of the shit we do well.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: Torture.
- 1:19:42Speaker 6: It's an earthly thing is what I'm saying.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: Like we can claim that.
- 1:19:45Speaker 6: That's an earthly thing.
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: We didn't come up with the fear water. We didn't
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: come up with the fear water, but I did have
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: a question though, particularly about how, and how we talked
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: about all the racial undertones with not undertones and overtones
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: in this whole series. I just felt like how, especially
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: when he came back to Rushfield, got hit with every
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: hate crime possible. like he got, you know, the shit
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: on his lawn.
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: He got, I'm sure he got beat up.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: He got, you know, the stairs and the, what the
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: fuck are you doing in this, you know, counter lunch
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: counter type shit.
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: He got his house firebombed.
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: Like I just, I was just like, they are really
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: like reversing the shit on him.
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: Like you feel like that was laying it on a
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: little thick and a little bit like, Oh, I mean,
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: it wasn't all together.
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: I didn't feel like poor white man. I felt like
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: this was even just a portion of what he understandably
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: people felt like he deserved. look at what they did
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: to rush was decimated i'm so mad that.
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: They all tried to kill them they all tried to
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: kill him but.
- 1:20:44Speaker 8: Like nope they all had guns they were all pointed
- 1:20:46Speaker 8: at you know episode five six they all you know
- 1:20:49Speaker 8: like if they really wanted to get how he was
- 1:20:52Speaker 8: right there he wasn't hiding he was going to everybody's
- 1:20:54Speaker 8: house like hey.
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: Plausible deniability they would say oh he died in a
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: fire i don't know how it started.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I feel like that's more so like that's just part
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: of like the Midwestern and the Southern bag of tricks
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: as opposed to like, it was supposed to be like,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: you know, if they could have, if they could have
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: burned a cross on his lawn, like they would have
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: done that too. They just, they just, that's, that's just
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: in the bag.
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: That's just what they do. It's just in their bag.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: That's real. That's what the budget is. I just feel like.
- 1:21:24Speaker 7: I mean, when I saw it, I was immediately, like,
- 1:21:27Speaker 7: just feeling like this 1960s, like, Medgar Everett.
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: Like, I was feeling all of that.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: Like, firebombing is specific.
- 1:21:35Speaker 6: It's very specific, especially a house.
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: It's very specific.
- 1:21:38Speaker 7: But for it to be happening to Hal, I was like, okay.
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: But it does feel like it's the bag of tricks
- 1:21:42Speaker 7: or whatever. But I think that's more of the connotation
- 1:21:46Speaker 7: of it being related to the 60s and what was
- 1:21:48Speaker 7: done during the Civil Rights Movement and what still is done.
- 1:21:51Speaker 7: But the connotation was giving me Medgar Evers is.
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: What hit me at the moment.
- 1:21:55Speaker 7: While we're on Hal, I do want to get back
- 1:21:57Speaker 7: to the fact that In Carrie killing him, it was
- 1:22:01Speaker 7: interesting because whenever John asked her why she asked him
- 1:22:05Speaker 7: of all the people to come back and find out
- 1:22:10Speaker 7: what happened to him or just notified him what was
- 1:22:13Speaker 7: going on, and she's like, well, I just need to
- 1:22:14Speaker 7: notify you.
- 1:22:15Speaker 6: Then he was like, okay, but for real, why did
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: you call me?
- 1:22:16Speaker 7: She was like, because I wanted to know that the
- 1:22:19Speaker 7: monster that I raised, if he was really a monster.
- 1:22:22Speaker 7: She killed the man that was telling her that her
- 1:22:25Speaker 7: son was a monster. Like, she already had that in
- 1:22:28Speaker 7: front of her. And then she's like, well... She's like,
- 1:22:31Speaker 7: I actually gotta find out.
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: Now I actually gotta find out if he's actually a monster. Like,
- 1:22:34Speaker 6: that's crazy.
- 1:22:35Speaker 7: Like, there's so many layers of her going off in
- 1:22:38Speaker 7: that moment.
- 1:22:39Speaker 6: And then she's, like, trying to make up for it later.
- 1:22:41Speaker 7: And I feel like that's... Maybe that's also a tone
- 1:22:44Speaker 7: that's going through this season is that how many people
- 1:22:47Speaker 7: do something really fucked up and then they keep feeling
- 1:22:49Speaker 7: they need a tone for it later from how to her, like,
- 1:22:52Speaker 7: trying to find out if her son is actually a
- 1:22:53Speaker 7: monster to figure out.
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: To.
- 1:22:56Speaker 7: John giving Maggie a bag full of cash or whatever, saying,
- 1:23:00Speaker 7: I'm still sorry.
- 1:23:01Speaker 8: Like, I just, I didn't matter because the sheriff knew
- 1:23:07Speaker 8: that you didn't kill him.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: Cause she fucking did it.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: Black girl was for no reason.
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: I just, how did y'all feel about, how did y'all
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: feel about John?
- 1:23:17Speaker 6: The black man paying reparation.
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: So white woman.
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: Pretty awful.
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: Just genuinely against some of it, some of it, you know,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: even even what you're saying about Carrie, you know, basically
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: killing Hal.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: And then the first call she makes is to John.
- 1:23:37Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: It's like she knows that John's resolve is not going
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: to lead him to the same conclusion that houses. So
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: she like Hal is a threat to Noah.
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: John is not.
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: Actually a threat.
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: Hal said, let's go away. No, Hal's trying to save
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: no one. He was trying to save them. John is
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: also a threat. John was the threat. That's fair. That's fair.
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: John was more of a threat.
- 1:23:58Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: He's like, you want to kill me?
- 1:24:00Speaker 6: John will kill people.
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: Hal was not going to kill.
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: Hal was like, we have.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: To get him out of here. Right.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: So it was more of a selfish reason for her
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: to do that because she didn't really want to.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: It was.
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: Yeah, it's selfish.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: And it's also, again, said in this episode, people will
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: do things out of fear or out of love to
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: they'll do anything, you know, and it's she's operating on
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: both of those. She's scared and she loves her son.
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: And she's like, I can't ruin his life like that,
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: taking Wadahar into another planet. That was the next step.
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: He said, and then I know some friendly planets we
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: can go to. Yeah, he was out. She's like, what?
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: You know, and then it's just fear. And then again,
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: a cop, you know, used to drawing a gun and
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: shooting and It.
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: Was it was fear and it was her not wanting
- 1:24:48Speaker 5: to face reality at the end of the day. Like, remember,
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: she came from Gotham City of all places and has
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: been living in this little fuck town. So it's just
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: like to be living that that West Bumblefuck life. And,
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: you know, you are lying to yourself every day. Your
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: son is a manhunter. But no, he's he's a star
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: quarterback that's going to go to Nebraska.
- 1:25:08Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: All that shit was wild that she was concocting. All
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: of this is a lie and it's stories that you're
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: concocting in your head because you just want to live
- 1:25:15Speaker 5: the quote normal life. And that is really what has
- 1:25:19Speaker 5: been pushing her to me like she was just living
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: this this this made-up reality and she wanted to maintain
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: that as much as possible is one of the reasons
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: why she shot how it was that was too much
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: to bear that now i gotta face the truth i
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: gotta face reality i gotta come out and not be
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: comfortable anymore i gotta be on the run again remember
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: how she got there she was on the run to
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: begin with she didn't want that shit no she lost a.
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: Finger for that shit I think one of the themes
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: that we were talking about themes that this whole season
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: is that most of these characters are traumatized and a
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: lot of it is generational trauma or trauma they've been
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: carrying from their past. And it's about a lot of
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: them moving on past that and becoming, you know, a
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: better version of themselves in one way or the other.
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: But my question was because y'all, some of y'all brought
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: this up earlier. I never saw Hal as the antagonist
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: and I'm guessing y'all.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: Did only, only to John.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Not the antagonist of the show. Just the foil to
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: Jon and his mission and his duty and all that.
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: So I didn't actually see him as the antagonist.
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: So who is the antagonist to you, Ben?
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: Is there an antagonist?
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: I don't know if there is.
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: As far as traditional protagonists, the characters going on a
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: mission and the antagonist is someone who's trying to prevent
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: them from completing that mission. John's mission for the show
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: was to become a Green Lantern until he realized that's
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: not what he wanted. And then he pivots to becoming
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: his own version of the Green Lantern. So that's pretty
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: much his arc. And his personal journey is to get
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: over the trauma of his parents and reconcile with them
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: and reconcile with the ideas of how they raised him
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: of fear and love and reconcile that within himself. So
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: who's stopping him from doing that?
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: Himself.
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: I think this is more of a man versus himself
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: type story. If you want to break it down into
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: traditional dramatic stories.
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: It was him versus him.
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: They made it literal in the lake, the fear lake.
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: That's pretty much like the climax of the series is
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: that lake and that's when he overcomes it. I think
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: this is... If you want to say who the antagonist is,
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: I would say himself. I think most of the characters
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: are facing... themselves on this show.
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: Ben I think you guessed it that Carrie was Carrie's
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: the one who killed because I think you said it
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: a few times that you thought it was Carrie I
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: also want to give a shout out to Michael Black
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: Gay Comic Geek I laughed at you before at first
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: when you were like the boy did it OJ did
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: it you were like the boy is a man hunter
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: and you were 100% right And remember, we talked about
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: the fact that sometimes the easiest answer is indeed the answer,
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: or the most obvious is the answer.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: And that was, yeah, because that's what I loved about
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: this episode, too, because it was like, immediately within the
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: first 15 minutes, they pretty much deaded all of the
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: theories that people had.
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: You know, the.
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: Idea of a clone, the idea that Hal would be resurrected,
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: you know, all this type of things were just deaded
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: immediately as I know Hal's dead. And I said this
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: on the Rodman show, and so I'll say it again.
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: After Justin Brick Gibson went off our show, because of
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: something he said during the interview, he felt like he
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: insinuated that Hal was dead. And so we had to edit.
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: That out of the show.
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: And then he's emailing me to tell me this. And
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: in the same email, unprovoked, Justin, because I didn't ask,
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: this man was like, oh, and off the record, Hal's dead.
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: Oh, he tripled down. Ben was in... Ben, you did
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: not want him to be dead.
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: No, and he straight up told... This is two episodes
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: ago I got this information, y'all. I've sat on this
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: for two weeks. After episode six, I found this out,
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: because he was like, no, you know, Arthur, I can
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: house dead. I do not know what the plans are
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: for season two as of yet, but where we end
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: at the end of season one, and, you know, throughout this,
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: he is gone. And so I was hoping Justin was
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: lying to me, but I also knew he wasn't. Because
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: he said off the record and all that type of stuff.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: And so, yeah, but unprovoked, I didn't even ask. And so, yeah,
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: I had to sit there and hold it. There's always
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: a window to bring him back, though. Sinestro even said
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: it while he was on the island.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: There's several. I mean, even in the comics, Hal dies
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: and returns as the specter. Yeah, as, you know, then
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: eventually gets resurrected as Hal again. So, I mean, it's comics.
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: It's a show. Yeah.
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: You know, just to speak to a lot of the
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: people on this episode, just saying how you didn't really
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: like Hal, like, he was.
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: A lovable asshole for me.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: I actually felt a way when to find, like, he
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: was truly gone, done, done, right? Like, I actually was
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: sad that he was truly gone and, you know, dead
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: in the biblical sense, right? So, I do want to,
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: I mean, and let's say kudos to Cal Chandler, right? Like,
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: because the way he did this role was crazy. Like,
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: he really put his foot in it, and i actually
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: really cared like even through all the bullshit that how
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: was on like i really probably because it was such
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: a thorough character it was such a deep character that
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: had many layers and he wasn't just this bumbling racist
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: southern guy or whatever you want to call him right
- 1:30:26Speaker 5: like it was way more.
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: Than that uh to him so i i did feel.
- 1:30:30Speaker 7: Bad yeah initially i didn't really care for how um Towards, like,
- 1:30:37Speaker 7: at the end, I did actually understand more. Like, hologram
- 1:30:41Speaker 7: is my favorite part of Hal.
- 1:30:42Speaker 6: Me too.
- 1:30:43Speaker 7: As Mandy was saying, like, last time, like, it was really,
- 1:30:46Speaker 7: it was a redeeming part of him. I think that
- 1:30:50Speaker 7: I get wrapping up kind of, like, Paul Walker-esque of
- 1:30:55Speaker 7: him leaving with a ring.
- 1:30:57Speaker 6: And he's just like, I love you, Junior. Like, I
- 1:30:59Speaker 6: get wrapping it up.
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: Well, whatever.
- 1:31:01Speaker 6: But, like, I didn't need that part. I didn't need
- 1:31:04Speaker 6: that part.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: That is what they did.
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: It didn't really need to do that for me.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: It's a little cheesy.
- 1:31:09Speaker 6: I didn't.
- 1:31:09Speaker 7: It was like, I'm like, let me believe that we
- 1:31:11Speaker 7: might see him again. Like, I don't need him to, like,
- 1:31:14Speaker 7: y'all to wrap it.
- 1:31:14Speaker 6: Up with a bow. Like, I just, I just leave
- 1:31:16Speaker 6: it open. Leave it ambiguous. But they had to. They
- 1:31:18Speaker 6: had to. Leave it ambiguous for me.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: I also don't think that was the end of Hal
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: by any means.
- 1:31:23Speaker 6: I don't either. But at the same time, I'm just saying, like,
- 1:31:27Speaker 6: leave it ambiguous.
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: Let me think of the Halle Berry in my head.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: I'm going to see you next week. Right. You're going
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: to pop up in the middle of nowhere.
- 1:31:33Speaker 4: Oh, so that, okay, I get it.
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: You feel like, we know you're going to be back
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: next season.
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: Just... Yeah, but you... Why are you saying I love
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: you like I'm never going to see you again?
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but you got to act like you.
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: But then it glitched at the end. Like, he, like,
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: faded out.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: Like, you're just.
- 1:31:46Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: The empathy levels on this episode are... I guess we've
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: had a long season and empathy is out.
- 1:31:56Speaker 7: Empathy, that's just literally being like, okay, I really don't
- 1:32:00Speaker 7: need to see.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: I feel you.
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: But on a mechanical level, just writing mechanical, just straight,
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: forget emotions, right?
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: Just on storytelling. They do not know they have a
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: season two. They have to wrap this shit up.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:32:13Speaker 6: Please just leave that open-ended.
- 1:32:15Speaker 7: We were talking about X-Men 97, whenever we were like, oh, Rogue,
- 1:32:19Speaker 7: they just reset.
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: Everything right back to the way it was.
- 1:32:21Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: Why not just set.
- 1:32:23Speaker 7: I would have been happy if they had Rogue touch
- 1:32:26Speaker 7: someone's shoulder, like, oh, she still kind of has.
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: Just a little hint of something, and this time the
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: hint could have just been nothing.
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: You don't think that would have been corny? Because that's
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: overplayed a lot, too, about the.
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: Yeah, like how.
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: No, I.
- 1:32:40Speaker 7: Was like saying, just leave it. The hints here could
- 1:32:43Speaker 7: have just been nothing. And I've been happy with nothing.
- 1:32:44Speaker 6: Like, give me nothing.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: But they kind of did.
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: He went to nothing.
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: He didn't just disappear.
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: They didn't say how much... First, they insinuated that, first
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: of all, that he was going to get overwritten or something. Like,
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: if he charged the ring. And I don't know if
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: that's 100% true.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: Charge that shit, please. So, part of my issue.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: Part of my issue, again, with that, and actually, John
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: actually said it on the.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: John said it in that last episode. Yeah, factory reset.
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: The whole ring.
- 1:33:18Speaker 6: I'm listening. I'm here, you.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: Partition the drive. Partition the drive. Give me a new ring, actually.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: So that was, honestly, that was part of my problem
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: because John brought that up when Hal, early on, kept saying, sorry, well, hologram.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: kept saying sorry he said i don't want your i
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: don't want your apology i want his right um.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: So i kind of felt the same way in.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: With porsche saying where it's like hologram kind of can't
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: say i love you to uh john in place of
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: how right because hologram didn't do to how i mean
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: didn't do to john What Hal did, you know what
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: I mean? He, so it kind of felt, it kind
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: of felt like, okay, this is good enough, but I
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: also did not need it because it's like, that's like,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: you know, your, your, your, your mom apologizing for your,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: for your brother.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: Right. You know, he's sorry. You know, that's just how
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: he is. Kind of not. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: I still kind of need to hear it from him
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: in order to receive it.
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: But he's dead, so that wasn't enough.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: Agreed. No.
- 1:34:31Speaker 6: Fuck him. The person.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: Some shit just ends unresolved.
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: That's life.
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Talk about some lovable asshole.
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: He jumped out the car when I was in it twice.
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: One of the times I almost died.
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: Only one time did he have a ring. The other
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: time there was no ring.
- 1:34:49Speaker 11: And he literally would have died.
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: Don't let him die.
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: I'm glad he knocked his shit up in that fucking diner.
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: I'm glad he.
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: I mean, me too.
- 1:35:02Speaker 6: Don't get me wrong.
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: Hal deserved all the bullshit that happened to him. All
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: the shit that happened to him.
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: I thought that was... I thought that was funny. Including that.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: That's in the bullshit.
- 1:35:16Speaker 6: That needs to happen.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: Negative 35.
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: That was.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: I actually really enjoyed that part, too, where Hal's like,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: what do you mean apologize for you?
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: I took the fall. He's like, no, nigga, you fell. Like,
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: you did this. What you mean? Yeah, I mean, he
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: told me. You took the fall. That was my.
- 1:35:31Speaker 7: That was one of my observations early on in this
- 1:35:33Speaker 7: episode was that basically what we.
- 1:35:36Speaker 6: Like, whenever.
- 1:35:37Speaker 7: Hal is sitting there and... Carrie walks up to him.
- 1:35:40Speaker 7: It's like, do you need a doctor? And he says, no,
- 1:35:43Speaker 7: I don't got no ring. So he just sing at
- 1:35:45Speaker 7: that out of habit. And I feel like, like thinking
- 1:35:48Speaker 7: about how's habits, how me thinking about how, like we
- 1:35:51Speaker 7: end up here in the season with how, because he
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: kind of created his own self-fulfilling prophecy.
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: He trusts his gut. He keeps going with his gut.
- 1:35:59Speaker 6: He's going by his willpower, the whole green ring of
- 1:36:01Speaker 6: it all.
- 1:36:02Speaker 7: And it lands him to his own hubris and, And
- 1:36:05Speaker 7: he says it right there when he's laying there. He's like,
- 1:36:07Speaker 7: the Guardians can now write me off because I made
- 1:36:11Speaker 7: this decision to go rogue on my own. They knew
- 1:36:15Speaker 7: that they left him to his own devices. He would
- 1:36:17Speaker 7: end up making the case for them and they didn't
- 1:36:19Speaker 7: have to intervene in the first place.
- 1:36:21Speaker 6: And so I love that, like.
- 1:36:24Speaker 7: Hal, the fact that Hal tried to put a splinket
- 1:36:27Speaker 7: on John when John shows up at the diner, but
- 1:36:31Speaker 7: Hal has known good darn well this whole time that
- 1:36:34Speaker 7: he landed himself in the exact position that he landed
- 1:36:36Speaker 7: him on his own.
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: And the guardians just let him do what he needed
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: to do to give them the case.
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: And so I just, that was.
- 1:36:45Speaker 7: Really like, as a literary device, as a writing component,
- 1:36:48Speaker 7: I really love that. Like, as Ben was saying, like,
- 1:36:51Speaker 7: each character is battling with themselves. And that was Hal's
- 1:36:54Speaker 7: journey was like, how much of an asshole are you
- 1:36:56Speaker 7: going to be? You're such an asshole that you asshole yourself.
- 1:37:00Speaker 7: into your worst predicament.
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: And it's like, he wants to be better than that,
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: but he can't, you know, it's like people aren't perfect.
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: And that's why fantastic writing when they're not characters who,
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: you know, automatically just do one thing. Cause no one
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: person just does one thing, you know? people are very hypocritical.
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: You know, that is just how people are and how,
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: even though he knows he's wrong, when John confronts him,
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: when someone tells, you know, when someone tells you you wrong,
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: you're like, nah, fuck that you wrong.
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: You know, especially my replacement. Fuck out of here, dog.
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: You know, he's still a little bitter.
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: Like Terry said, you know, I, I know you're ready,
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: but I still believe that, you know, no one can
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: do this job like I can. And, So it's tough
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: to let go of it.
- 1:37:45Speaker 7: I do like that the hologram also said to him,
- 1:37:47Speaker 7: I think you're going to do a better job with
- 1:37:50Speaker 7: this ring than I ever would have.
- 1:37:52Speaker 6: But again, the hologram says that to Hyde's point.
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: But see, again, the hologram is supposed to be his
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: pure essence or not the one who's so jaded, so hurt,
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: who went through.
- 1:38:00Speaker 6: All the drama.
- 1:38:01Speaker 7: But the jaded one is the one that needs to
- 1:38:02Speaker 7: be the one that comes to terms and speaks to
- 1:38:05Speaker 7: John from that place.
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: Of like, you know what?
- 1:38:07Speaker 11: Dead.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: Dead.
- 1:38:10Speaker 7: Again we understand I'm saying the thing is like it's
- 1:38:14Speaker 7: not gonna ring the same to John if it's like
- 1:38:17Speaker 7: not the version he actually got harmed by.
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: I have a question though about that because it's not
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: gonna ring the same but is it still something that
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: matters to John because to me the way the character
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: takes that it's not like oh this is the fake
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: ass how that said this i don't really appreciate this
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: you know sorry or i don't appreciate this i love
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: you i feel at least from what was on.
- 1:38:37Speaker 6: Screen for me the way i interpreted it i feel like.
- 1:38:39Speaker 5: It meant something to john still even though it was
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: a approximation of the person that did actually hurt him
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: that did actually do all these things with him it
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: was still acceptable because that was, it was a piece
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: of his soul, essentially, talking to him.
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: That's how I took it.
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: Maybe I'm too deep with it.
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: Yeah, for me, it was like, and like from personal experience,
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: my dad was never a vocal person. Like I've said,
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: you know, he definitely would hit me when things weren't right,
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: but he wasn't the type to ever really be like, yo,
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: I'm proud of you. Like, I can count the times
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: that I can remember him actually saying that. And so
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: for me, if I had a version of him that
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: wasn't so trapped by white supremacy, by toxic mentality, by
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: all these things that he grew up in that were
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: just trained into him and fear, a lot of fear.
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: I can't show this type of love to my son
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: because he got to be hard so he can survive
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: this world. If I got that from someone who wasn't
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: affected by all that, which I feel like is this
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: version of Hal, I would take it. It would be
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: beautiful to me because it's like getting to see the
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: person really express their emotions, really express who they are
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: underneath all, you know, the trauma. So, yeah, I would,
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: I would, you know, that's why to me it was
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: so fucking touching, you know, that they got to this relationship,
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: whether it's the hologram or not, it's, the true essence
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: of who they both are. You know, they both had
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: to go through this journey of not lying to themselves,
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: of being who they really want to be, being able
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: to express themselves. John saying, no, this is who the
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: fuck I am. I don't give a fuck about you.
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: I'll shut the fuck up. You know, when you're joking,
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: when you make another dumb ass joke, just shut the
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: fuck up, you know? So that's why that scene was
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: so beautiful. And this whole, you know, arc that they
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: both were on was incredible to me.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: I did appreciate it, but I just think that John,
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: was owed a lot more from a lot of the
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: people on the show from his, from, from literally damn
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: to everybody from Carrie, from his parents, from how everyone
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: kind of, and obviously John had his flaws too, but
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: he probably was abused the most. On the show, like
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: from an emotional standpoint, right?
- 1:40:52Speaker 4: Brothers would argue that.
- 1:40:53Speaker 6: Brothers would argue, yeah.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: Yes, that's a good point, right?
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: Honestly, his relationships with his brothers, that relationship meant a
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: lot to me too. But it's just, you know, from,
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: I don't want to go back there, but yeah, like
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: even his mom getting that moment with him was great,
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: but she also needed to apologize.
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: Like, she also needed to, you know what I mean?
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: But you don't have to see that on screen too,
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: I feel. Like, certain stuff has to be understood. You can't,
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: You know, that's showing rather than telling. Like, you cannot,
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: you know, and that's showing him having the family all
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: in one house is showing that the apologies, the forgiveness,
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: the destruction have happened.
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: So we're to imply that those have happened. Yeah, I
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: don't need this. He was hungry. Like, oh, you want
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: some food? Because, yeah, there were issues going on with
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: each person. Like, his brother was barely listening. That's exactly
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: what my mother used to say after she scrapped the
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: shit out of me. Yeah, you want some food? Yeah,
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: he was barely talking to his mother.
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: Yeah, and so... He was calling her Bernadette.
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: Remember that, by her first name.
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and so for her to see, you know, to
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: see them all in the house together, to see them
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: immediately go.
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: Hug the rapper brother who he was just screaming on, you.
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: Know, like, all the.
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: And for my man to have the gold chains on
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: was hilarious.
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: Yeah. You knew immediately who the rapper was. Yeah, you know, immediately.
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: I was like, oh, that's good.
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: I had the gold chains on, you know, all that.
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: So that, like, that's what I'm saying. It's like, You know,
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: certain things you... And that's the thing about script writing
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: and about... Well, you know, it's about what I talk
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: about real estate is what you talk about in script writing.
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: It's like you only have so much real estate. You
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: got 57 minutes. And so do you want space battles
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: or do you want John going on a full character journey?
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: You know, do you want... You know, the focus of
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: the show, even though Bernadette and them have done stuff,
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: I get it. Some people want space battles. Well, hey,
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: wait for Man of Tomorrow. You know, that's where you'll
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: get your big green space battles.
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: You know, like.
- 1:42:49Speaker 6: Bernadette's upset. He wants that shit now.
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: Let him have it. I'm ready now. I want a spaceship.
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: What do I get? Waterboarding. Yeah, well... Guns aimed at children.
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: At black children. That's what I get. Wait, the waterborne
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: wasn't aimed at black children. No, he said guns aimed
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: at black children. I said guns aimed at black children.
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: John is the black child.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, I forgot. Yeah, there was a lot of
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: guns aimed at black children.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: I was like, when?
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: I was like, oh yeah, that's right.
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: Yeah, on the map.
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: First 10 minutes.
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: I am desensitized.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: And then they did it again in the third episode.
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: He aimed a gun at his neck.
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: On himself, yeah.
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: On sight. I mean, what do you want?
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: Like, you want, like, you know, the Smurfs for a show? Like,
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: with Black people or some shit?
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: Like, I don't know. Like, I mean, I want peace
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: and happiness, you know? Like.
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: man's wanted battles in.
- 1:43:38Speaker 3: Space i really want to know what else you watch
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: like have you do you watch power you know uh snowfall.
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: I haven't watched power yet i haven't watched.
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: Snowfall okay all right you keep a reference for reference
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: like we're going super hard route i really like the
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: penguins That nigga was terrible. He was an awful person.
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: He choked out a black kid. He stayed the same
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: from the beginning. You could have known he was going
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: to do that from the beginning. I knew he was too,
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: but it still did it. But I'm still going back.
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: So you just not watch shows with black on black violence?
- 1:44:08Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: I don't like... Don't get him started. Yeah, no, no, no.
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: Get me started.
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: That's what's up. I didn't know this was going to reoccur.
- 1:44:17Speaker 8: No, no.
- 1:44:17Speaker 2: It's a thing. It's a thing. I don't like.
- 1:44:20Speaker 9: any type of cop again, anything really. I try to
- 1:44:23Speaker 9: keep like, but it's like to the extremes though. Like
- 1:44:26Speaker 9: to the point, I don't even like seeing even.
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: In a Mario movie when they showed the NYPD car,
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, I feel the same way.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: I was like mad. I was mad about shit like that.
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: When we watched One Last Chill, I pointed out how
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: that is pure copaganda. It's pure copaganda and there's no
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: cops in it. And it's still copaganda. So I'm the
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: same way.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: And isn't the Punisher thing is like, isn't he like mad? Like,
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: isn't he kind of... No, they subvert.
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: He does denounce all that. I'm about to say it.
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: He does denounce that play.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: Yeah, but the idea of one man representing law and
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: order is copaganda. No matter who it's done by. No
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: matter if you say, I hate cops or not.
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: That's that Clint Eastwood shit.
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it's still Copaganda.
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 1:45:07Speaker 7: That's how we spoke about it, the way that we
- 1:45:08Speaker 7: did in, like, for Game of Thrones and the Knights. Like,
- 1:45:10Speaker 7: the Knights in Game of Thrones.
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: For Copaganda. Like, we're pretty extreme here, too, bro.
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: But even on the first episode, Portia and Tatiana, I
- 1:45:18Speaker 3: asked them, is this show Copaganda?
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: He did ask that.
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: I was going to say, because you weren't completely off-base, Trent,
- 1:45:24Speaker 5: until you just said the moment you see a shield
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: or a gun, like, you're like, all right, fuck this shit.
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: That's kind of a question I have for you, though.
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: Like.
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: That's how extreme it gets.
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 1:45:34Speaker 6: The substance of the show if it's just the.
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: Moment you see.
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: Paw Patrol is like... Yo, Paw Patrol.
- 1:45:42Speaker 4: I'm 100% on that one.
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: Hell no. Hell no. Yeah, straight up.
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: They're showing kids that cops are good from an early age.
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: Fuck that. All cops are bastards.
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and using dogs to do it. They did that
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: in real life with the canine unit.
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: They didn't do that with the German Shepherds.
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: Those dogs will fuck you up still.
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: At the airport.
- 1:46:01Speaker 7: I think the difference that Ben brought up earlier is
- 1:46:04Speaker 7: what I get into.
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: Like, if it's there to be used as a device.
- 1:46:07Speaker 7: To actually interrogate the idea of copying, if it's there
- 1:46:11Speaker 7: to actually, like, let's pull apart. Like, yes, in this
- 1:46:16Speaker 7: day and age, are most people having a problem with
- 1:46:20Speaker 7: critically engaging with stuff and being like, this show is
- 1:46:23Speaker 7: not actually telling us that we... should look at the
- 1:46:28Speaker 7: cops as good people. But people are so used to
- 1:46:31Speaker 7: looking at cops as good people, they're not going to
- 1:46:33Speaker 7: understand the themes and the lessons between things.
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: That is a problem.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: So is it as helpful as it's supposed to be?
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: Is it as helpful as it's going to be?
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: That's a real question. That's a debate.
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: It depends on what you get off the shelf.
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: But you have that versus NYPD, you know, CSI, et cetera.
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: So it's like, I'd much rather have lanterns than the onslaught.
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: Blue bloods. blue bloods is the absolute worst show on.
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: Everything is propaganda like there is just a constant onslaught
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: like even.
- 1:47:01Speaker 5: Though i love it lioness is a prime example of
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: the military industrial complex copy i love watching it but
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: it is the number one.
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: They are straight up on the show talk about iran
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: and then they move on to you know this next
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: nation that we need to bomb it is you know.
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: It is military industrial complex.
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: It's propaganda.
- 1:47:19Speaker 6: It's everything.
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: And the dude who writes it is a straight-up MAGA, full-on,
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: you know, whatever.
- 1:47:27Speaker 4: He claims to be centrist, which is just.
- 1:47:28Speaker 6: He claims to be centrist.
- 1:47:29Speaker 4: Yeah, which is just the worst.
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: But, you know, so... And I had this realization a
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: couple of years ago. It's like cops in America are
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: so horrific that without the constant onslaught of copaganda in
- 1:47:43Speaker 3: every form, we would examine it a lot more because
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: all you would get is the bad news about cops
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: because their numbers are so bad that it's just impossible.
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: So it's like, You need it constantly, every day, in
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: every form of media. Cops are okay.
- 1:47:58Speaker 7: That is a great point. I would love to see
- 1:48:02Speaker 7: someone do a study. I might have to do this
- 1:48:04Speaker 7: at some point. Look at the scale of how much
- 1:48:08Speaker 7: more cop shows and movies appeared after 2020.
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: The uprisings and everything.
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: Even before that.
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: When the SWAT teams came in in the 90s, then
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: like mad cop shows started coming on and it's like
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: it keeps.
- 1:48:23Speaker 7: Getting worse is there is there a point that happens
- 1:48:27Speaker 7: in like society that they just keep like and it
- 1:48:32Speaker 7: would be really interesting to see that because I feel
- 1:48:33Speaker 7: like also who's being.
- 1:48:34Speaker 3: Casted Like you said, all the Blacks.
- 1:48:37Speaker 7: And there are people who have some social appeal, not
- 1:48:41Speaker 7: just because they're Black, but because, like, why is Angela Bassett?
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: Why is Ice-T a cop? But Ice-T's been in there.
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: I know, but it was like they got him early.
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: That's like the dress thing.
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: It's like he was straight up making a song, Cop Killer.
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: And then they were like, nope.
- 1:49:00Speaker 7: And that gets me in my.
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: Shut up. Shut the fuck up, nigga.
- 1:49:06Speaker 9: That takes me.
- 1:49:06Speaker 7: To my point that Ben does not like me to
- 1:49:08Speaker 7: make about generations and how I think certain generations like
- 1:49:12Speaker 7: to do shit.
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: But again, when they're younger, they're cop killer. And then
- 1:49:19Speaker 3: as they get older, niggas change.
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: And like I said, you haven't had the time yet.
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: Time will tell.
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: I told you it's starting on me, man. look at this.
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: Look at this panel we have right here.
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: You open my eyes to a lot of things I
- 1:49:38Speaker 5: didn't know about you in this episode so I said.
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: My god what generation are you from he's.
- 1:49:45Speaker 7: A millennial millennial marvel black militia is different.
- 1:49:50Speaker 3: Than white militia let me take a talk over here
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: you know one last thing on this.
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: One last thing on this for me.
- 1:50:01Speaker 9: Because, like I said, The Wire is an amazingly written show.
- 1:50:09Speaker 9: And yes, it's mad copaganda in that show.
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: It still is.
- 1:50:14Speaker 9: The thing that pulled people to that show in the
- 1:50:17Speaker 9: first few couple seasons are the cop shit.
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: And all that instead.
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: You can watch that whole show as like a straight
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: up cop show. You know, it's called The Wire.
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: The Wire. Yes, you can. But like, a show.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: About cops is not always copaganda.
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: I'm waking it up.
- 1:50:39Speaker 9: No, because even if it's, there's always interpretations that could
- 1:50:43Speaker 9: be pulled for people that are like pro-cop. and they
- 1:50:46Speaker 9: can i just view it all as being destructive in
- 1:50:49Speaker 9: my opinion the.
- 1:50:50Speaker 3: Funny thing is about the wire uh cops never shoot
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: anyone straight up the only time a cop fires his
- 1:50:57Speaker 3: gun is when uh whatever the dude eventually becomes a
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: teacher he shoots another cop and one shoots a gun
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: in his office those are the two times that a
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: cop shoots the one on the wire so But they still.
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: Kind of do that whole reformation thing of like, oh yeah,
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: cops can be reformed. This is the wire, man.
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: I get it if you want to talk about any
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: other show in the world, we can, but this is
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: like the wire.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: That's like saying that Andor is like, you know, pro-fascism.
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: I have to watch this.
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: It could be very well. You should watch. You should watch.
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: I don't want to hear your.
- 1:51:38Speaker 9: So here's the thing that I was trying to say
- 1:51:39Speaker 9: was there's a person I watched online. He was talking about,
- 1:51:43Speaker 9: I think it's called the diluted pedestal theory or something
- 1:51:46Speaker 9: like that, where basically he was saying he, it's a
- 1:51:50Speaker 9: theory where in animation, you don't allow anything to be
- 1:51:53Speaker 9: misconstrued as like, um, white supremacists, uh, propaganda or anything
- 1:51:59Speaker 9: like that. And he brought up in invincible. Y'all watch
- 1:52:01Speaker 9: that show. I'm sure y'all watch it. Um, there was
- 1:52:04Speaker 9: a scene where all the Vulture mites, you know, obviously
- 1:52:07Speaker 9: the Vulture mites are the strongest beings and stuff. And, um,
- 1:52:11Speaker 9: drag was given like a speech and everything. And in
- 1:52:13Speaker 9: the scene where they're all like raising their fist, black
- 1:52:16Speaker 9: fists go up first. And they said that there's a
- 1:52:19Speaker 9: reason why that was happening was because if there's a
- 1:52:21Speaker 9: white fist that came up, it's kind of like a
- 1:52:23Speaker 9: dog whistle, um, for like white supremacists to look at
- 1:52:25Speaker 9: that and take that and change it to something completely.
- 1:52:28Speaker 9: So that whole, like the, what is it? Um, the
- 1:52:31Speaker 9: diluted pedestal theory. I think we need a lot more
- 1:52:35Speaker 9: of that in black media specifically to make things not
- 1:52:38Speaker 9: look a certain way. even if it's like, even if
- 1:52:42Speaker 9: you're attending it to look like really good, it's still like,
- 1:52:45Speaker 9: that's how I view all cop again. Any type of
- 1:52:47Speaker 9: cop media, it's still.
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: But isn't that what lanterns did?
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: I would have to argue that. It's like, so I
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: didn't like the show.
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: You're saying I can't show, you can't show cops is
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: what you're basically saying.
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: I don't want to see, I don't want to see
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: no cops and no media ever.
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's not going to solve the issue. I
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: know it's not going to solve the issue. You can't
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: stick your head in the fucking face, man.
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: I'm sorry. No, Definitely not.
- 1:53:10Speaker 9: We're talking about media, especially fictional stories. I'm saying that
- 1:53:15Speaker 9: we should care more. There's too much of one thing
- 1:53:16Speaker 9: and not enough of the other. There's too much propaganda.
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: There's too much propaganda unexamined on every form of media.
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: So to have one show out of 99 shows out
- 1:53:29Speaker 3: of 100 that actually examines it, like The Wire, like Lanterns,
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: like Watchmen, like Andor... I, I disagreed it. Those are
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: the problems, you know, like, and I disagreed it. You
- 1:53:41Speaker 3: can avoid talking about these subjects. It's just like underground
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: was the one slave show slave narrative that I approved
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: of because it's like, I don't want to see a
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: million slave narratives where I don't want to see 12
- 1:53:54Speaker 3: years of slavery at the end of it.
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: It's all good. And a white man saved them.
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: What I do want to see is the horrors of
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: slavery shown how ridiculous it is. and the strength of
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: the black people that we had to endure to fight
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: back against it.
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: And that's what underground showed me.
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: I don't want to see a show about cops where
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: they don't, you know, examine what it means for a
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: person to be a police officer. And that's 99% of shows.
- 1:54:16Speaker 3: And so it's like, I don't, I, yeah, I cannot
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: put the wire or lanterns in the same category as,
- 1:54:24Speaker 3: you know, law and order.
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: That's it's disrespectful.
- 1:54:27Speaker 9: But did this show make you feel, anymore like did
- 1:54:30Speaker 9: it make you lean in more towards like alright yeah
- 1:54:33Speaker 9: that's right cops are more like are terrible people.
- 1:54:36Speaker 3: I'm already there you're already there you're already there so
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: why do you need that I.
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: Don't need it's not for me.
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: I would argue that I never thought about cops in
- 1:54:46Speaker 5: the first place, to be honest with you. I never, honestly,
- 1:54:48Speaker 5: after everything's said and done with Lanterns, not an iota
- 1:54:51Speaker 5: of a cop thought passed my mind. I wasn't even
- 1:54:53Speaker 5: fucking thinking about cops. I'm thinking about this nigga, John,
- 1:54:56Speaker 5: flew away, and now we're going to get the rest
- 1:54:58Speaker 5: of the DCU, and how's this going to tie into Penguins?
- 1:55:00Speaker 5: That's me, and that's also me as a comic book enthusiast.
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: I wonder, now that you've mentioned this, Dren, I do wonder, maybe, Hod,
- 1:55:08Speaker 5: you've filled differently or similar people who don't have that
- 1:55:11Speaker 5: background did does the thought of cops and all this
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: other stuff enter your mind or is it just about
- 1:55:16Speaker 5: you learned something about some comic book shit.
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: For me no i didn't i didn't i mean i
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: i'm again i'm fine with cops in media like i
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: think they exist you know what i mean so it's
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: um it's not really.
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: One of your favorite youtube videos to watch.
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: Actually yes i love body cam videos oh my god
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: what the fuck Okay.
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: Stay on topic.
- 1:55:38Speaker 6: Stay on topic.
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: These hoes. Oh, shit. Man, Paul.
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: Yeah, man.
- 1:55:44Speaker 6: No, but I mean, like.
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: I guess my point is just that I wasn't thinking
- 1:55:50Speaker 5: about no cops. I was just thinking about the larger
- 1:55:53Speaker 5: implications of the DCU.
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: Like, I was thinking about.
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: Fucking MAGA hat is just going to form on my ass.
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: We were talking about the editing on trend, but nobody
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: can put it to the wild.
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: I tried to get past it, but he brought it
- 1:56:09Speaker 5: right back. But yeah, like, do y'all feel... What you
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: even thinking about cop shit, bro? Like, what would you
- 1:56:14Speaker 5: think if you finished watching Lanterns?
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: No, I just... As you said... As you said, John...
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: It was never realistic enough for him.
- 1:56:24Speaker 5: You just said it was too grounded.
- 1:56:27Speaker 6: Like, what the fuck? No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: I'm saying it was cop shit from the beginning and
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: it was cop shit in the end. They call them
- 1:56:35Speaker 2: space cops. I was like.
- 1:56:37Speaker 9: Listen, I told them. Because we talked about this show, like,
- 1:56:39Speaker 9: I think three times. And then one was, like, in
- 1:56:41Speaker 9: the beginning stages. And I already told, like, the boys.
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: I was like, yo.
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: this show ain't for me. I know this show ain't
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: for me. Once it was like, oh, so y'all basically
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: from space. There's a line in the show. I was like, oh,
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: fuck no.
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: At the end of watching lanterns.
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: What did y'all feel?
- 1:56:57Speaker 8: Listen, me being familiar with the green lanterns. I did
- 1:57:02Speaker 8: not outside of that one line where, and I knew
- 1:57:05Speaker 8: when I heard it, he's definitely going to have a
- 1:57:07Speaker 8: lot to say about this. Um, But, no, because, I mean,
- 1:57:14Speaker 8: outside of the Proud Boys that Megan had, it wasn't
- 1:57:18Speaker 8: really much cop shit going on.
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: It just seemed like Carrie was.
- 1:57:22Speaker 8: The whole force running around. Yeah, she was the only
- 1:57:25Speaker 8: one running around. Like, who are your partners?
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: Like, who are you? Like, who are you?
- 1:57:30Speaker 6: The one security nigga.
- 1:57:31Speaker 7: And he's the same guy who's at the jail whenever
- 1:57:33Speaker 7: he needs to use the phone.
- 1:57:34Speaker 6: Same guy.
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: But it was like, they don't have much crime.
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: They don't have shit going on in this town. Dude
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: at the jail was like, homies.
- 1:57:40Speaker 8: Dude at the jail was homies with Hal. Like, he
- 1:57:42Speaker 8: didn't really care about that sheriff.
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: He kept giving niggas his phone to call their people
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: and shit like that.
- 1:57:46Speaker 8: My theory about that whole town of Rushville was like,
- 1:57:49Speaker 8: similar to how scarlet witch in uh in her show
- 1:57:53Speaker 8: she kind of like you know built that town i
- 1:57:55Speaker 8: felt like everybody in that town yeah in westview like
- 1:57:58Speaker 8: everybody in rushville old yes.
- 1:58:01Speaker 2: Favor and yeah they knew what was going on.
- 1:58:03Speaker 8: Yeah they everybody knew what was going on so it
- 1:58:05Speaker 8: was like nobody gave a fuck about any titles that
- 1:58:08Speaker 8: they had there was no doctors because they didn't need
- 1:58:09Speaker 8: no need no doctors. Nobody was in the jail because
- 1:58:11Speaker 8: nobody was wild. And Terry's talking about, oh, I'm trying
- 1:58:14Speaker 8: to keep my town safe.
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: Safe from who? Everybody's under control here.
- 1:58:18Speaker 3: I mean, apparently not a firebomb in niggas' houses.
- 1:58:22Speaker 6: That's when he came through.
- 1:58:25Speaker 5: The person who ruined it for them.
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: And there's no.
- 1:58:29Speaker 8: Police looking for who burnt down the house, I guarantee you.
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: Yeah, not one.
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: It was not a single investigation had. Because they did it.
- 1:58:36Speaker 5: I am the law because she is the only nigga
- 1:58:39Speaker 5: that's on the force.
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: That's why she was so upset when he came in
- 1:58:42Speaker 3: the first place. She was like, she knew what was
- 1:58:45Speaker 3: about to happen. He was about to fuck it all up,
- 1:58:47Speaker 3: you know, and she's like, oh, my God, here comes
- 1:58:49Speaker 3: this idiot, you know, and then he did fuck it
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: all up.
- 1:58:52Speaker 9: So can I give you a silly example of how
- 1:58:56Speaker 9: if you're not paying attention to this show, you can
- 1:58:57Speaker 9: see this shit as something else. in the scene is
- 1:59:00Speaker 9: it in the um i think it was episode eight
- 1:59:03Speaker 9: right where they was in the the diner or whatever
- 1:59:06Speaker 9: or they went to um where it was howling and
- 1:59:09Speaker 9: carrie and they was all just staring at him in
- 1:59:12Speaker 9: my head i was like do they hate how because
- 1:59:15Speaker 9: he was hanging out with that colored man valid they
- 1:59:23Speaker 9: were all staring like he was that's that man that
- 1:59:25Speaker 9: was hanging with that colored boy that'd be having that
- 1:59:28Speaker 9: green color.
- 1:59:29Speaker 3: Boy I mean were there any brown people in that
- 1:59:32Speaker 3: restaurant I don't know there were no brown remember Zoe
- 1:59:35Speaker 3: was the only other brown person in that whole town.
- 1:59:37Speaker 9: And they capped her well the other you know the
- 1:59:39Speaker 9: black person took her out There we go.
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: Black on black crime. I mean, the other cop looked
- 1:59:46Speaker 2: like he was Latin, right?
- 1:59:47Speaker 6: Yeah, he was Latino.
- 1:59:49Speaker 4: Yeah, he was Latino.
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: Who was this Latino?
- 1:59:51Speaker 4: The other cop.
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: The cop.
- 1:59:52Speaker 6: The one who was there for the football game and
- 1:59:54Speaker 6: the one with the phone at the gym.
- 1:59:55Speaker 2: Same guy. Wow. That was the same dude I didn't
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: even realize.
- 1:59:58Speaker 6: I didn't even realize it.
- 2:00:01Speaker 2: Gary, cop, same shit.
- 2:00:03Speaker 6: Because that's all they got.
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: They don't need nothing.
- 2:00:06Speaker 7: I think, I love Damon's, like, now I'm going to
- 2:00:09Speaker 7: be sitting with that, like, over the layers of, like,
- 2:00:13Speaker 7: difference and similarities between Westview and Rushville and, like, how
- 2:00:16Speaker 7: it's a facade for something, but with Scarlet Witch, it's all,
- 2:00:20Speaker 7: they're there by force and terror versus, like, the Rushville
- 2:00:24Speaker 7: people were there because they were being.
- 2:00:27Speaker 6: They were being guarded, but.
- 2:00:34Speaker 7: They are the ones who have the worst fate because
- 2:00:37Speaker 7: the guardian of them becomes their nuke. And in Westview,
- 2:00:43Speaker 7: everyone already knew Scarlet Witch was fucking them up. And
- 2:00:45Speaker 7: then it just like, she was the one who had
- 2:00:47Speaker 7: the realization that she was fucking them up. So would
- 2:00:50Speaker 7: you prefer to live, would you prefer to live in
- 2:00:53Speaker 7: Westview under Scarlet Witch.
- 2:00:56Speaker 6: Or you're with a Rushville post-Manhunter.
- 2:01:01Speaker 2: West, no. Post-Manhunter?
- 2:01:05Speaker 6: But Westview, you're being tortured.
- 2:01:06Speaker 3: You're being tortured under.
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: The Scarlet Witch's control.
- 2:01:09Speaker 3: Wait, before the Green Lantern shows up.
- 2:01:12Speaker 6: No, post-Manhunter.
- 2:01:13Speaker 5: You mean after everything got destroyed the first time?
- 2:01:15Speaker 6: I post everything got destroyed. I wouldn't want to live
- 2:01:19Speaker 6: in that shit.
- 2:01:19Speaker 3: I thought you were.
- 2:01:20Speaker 5: Going to say, before Rushville got blown the fuck up,
- 2:01:25Speaker 5: would I want to live there?
- 2:01:26Speaker 7: No. Because that's not the same. Because the people in
- 2:01:29Speaker 7: Westview are being tortured. They know they're being tortured. Now
- 2:01:32Speaker 7: you have to know in Rushville.
- 2:01:33Speaker 6: You've been tortured. Your person who was your savior is
- 2:01:35Speaker 6: now your torturer.
- 2:01:36Speaker 4: I feel like the racism is less in Westview. Yeah,
- 2:01:38Speaker 4: I'm going to eat it.
- 2:01:40Speaker 2: Shit. Shit.
- 2:01:47Speaker 8: I never want to live in Nebraska. Fun fact, Westview
- 2:01:53Speaker 8: is in New Jersey, so I will be going home.
- 2:01:56Speaker 4: There we go. I ain't mad at it.
- 2:01:59Speaker 1: I actually love old sitcoms, so I could do.
- 2:02:05Speaker 2: A little Lucy type vibe. I mean, why not the
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: different world?
- 2:02:10Speaker 3: You know, I can ask Charlie for that. You know,
- 2:02:12Speaker 3: give me a little helmet on, you know, on the side,
- 2:02:14Speaker 3: you know, for us black people. Can we change up
- 2:02:16Speaker 3: the setting a little bit?
- 2:02:17Speaker 2: Yeah, just a little bit. I'm not asking to leave.
- 2:02:20Speaker 2: I'm just like, yeah, like, can we, can we get
- 2:02:21Speaker 2: like a living single? I'll take homeboys and out of space.
- 2:02:28Speaker 2: You know?
- 2:02:31Speaker 6: Homeboys and housewives.
- 2:02:32Speaker 3: Okay, wait.
- 2:02:32Speaker 2: Post-Rushville after shit got orbital bombed. I would have to choose....
- 2:02:43Speaker 6: Scarlet Witches.
- 2:02:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been Scarlet Witches.
- 2:02:45Speaker 5: Because I wouldn't want to live, one, like, damn, I
- 2:02:48Speaker 5: wouldn't want to live in Nebraska.
- 2:02:49Speaker 6: Sorry, guys.
- 2:02:50Speaker 5: Two, I don't want to live in a place where
- 2:02:53Speaker 5: it's after all the miracles have been taken from me.
- 2:02:56Speaker 2: And then I'm the brown person. And I'm in Nebraska.
- 2:03:01Speaker 2: And they're like, what? Yeah, nah. Nah. Nah.
- 2:03:05Speaker 3: And when your star high school quarterback is 5'1, that's
- 2:03:08Speaker 3: how it sucks.
- 2:03:10Speaker 6: Like, nah. Hey, your height is not everything, sir.
- 2:03:15Speaker 4: I don't know how tall he was.
- 2:03:17Speaker 6: He gave at least 5'9.
- 2:03:18Speaker 7: Okay.
- 2:03:19Speaker 4: At least. At least.
- 2:03:20Speaker 2: At least. This is terrible 5'9 propaganda. I'm 5'9. I'm 5'9, too,
- 2:03:23Speaker 2: but this don't look good. Don't call that boy a 5'9.
- 2:03:35Speaker 2: You know, like, we got good PR right now. She
- 2:03:37Speaker 2: said he gave a strong 5'9. Yeah, we got good
- 2:03:40Speaker 2: PR right now. Not too much on the 5'9ers.
- 2:03:43Speaker 6: I mean, he was very powerful.
- 2:03:46Speaker 7: And he was talking about how, like, He had a
- 2:03:48Speaker 7: very school shooter line that was like, oh, the things
- 2:03:51Speaker 7: that go on in my head.
- 2:03:53Speaker 3: Yo.
- 2:03:53Speaker 6: Yeah, that was Columbine-esque.
- 2:03:56Speaker 3: Would leave you screaming.
- 2:03:58Speaker 6: Would leave you screaming. And then he was like, I've
- 2:03:59Speaker 6: had thoughts about going to the Pentagon. And I was like, well, shoot.
- 2:04:02Speaker 6: So I'm going to do something like this.
- 2:04:04Speaker 2: That's them sons of police officers.
- 2:04:05Speaker 8: Cut my life into pieces. I'm like, I actually need
- 2:04:08Speaker 8: this ring. I actually need to.
- 2:04:09Speaker 2: Charge this ring.
- 2:04:13Speaker 3: John was definitely debating, like, do I need to make
- 2:04:15Speaker 3: another trip to the gun store?
- 2:04:16Speaker 4: I know.
- 2:04:17Speaker 6: Suffocation no breathing oh man we gotta go guys i
- 2:04:20Speaker 6: mean when he's someone who.
- 2:04:21Speaker 2: Broke sinestro out and that's.
- 2:04:23Speaker 8: The main thing to me like that i'm sorry before
- 2:04:26Speaker 8: we go can he fly noah.
- 2:04:40Speaker 3: I guess so. You know, that was one of the
- 2:04:42Speaker 3: more like.
- 2:04:42Speaker 2: They don't explain. You look, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, man.
- 2:04:47Speaker 4: Let's just wave this away. You know, that's what it is.
- 2:04:49Speaker 2: He got there.
- 2:04:50Speaker 3: That's what we got there. The magic of off screen.
- 2:04:54Speaker 6: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 2:04:57Speaker 2: I get it.
- 2:04:57Speaker 5: He had the power, the power of no. He had
- 2:04:59Speaker 5: those portals. I assume he could make more than one.
- 2:05:01Speaker 5: So he did one portal to the next. Then he
- 2:05:03Speaker 5: got him out. let's be let's be you know more precise.
- 2:05:07Speaker 2: Use the rules of the universe.
- 2:05:09Speaker 5: How convenient how convenient is that I'm just using what
- 2:05:14Speaker 5: they're giving me things.
- 2:05:15Speaker 2: Needed to happen things needed to happen.
- 2:05:17Speaker 9: That's the most alien shit they had in this show
- 2:05:19Speaker 9: we got these portals You just, it was.
- 2:05:21Speaker 2: Like a little Play-Doh. You just set it up. Also
- 2:05:24Speaker 2: straight from the comic book.
- 2:05:26Speaker 4: Yeah, comic book. You know, the DC has the boom
- 2:05:28Speaker 4: tubes and boom portals, so.
- 2:05:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:05:31Speaker 4: Yeah, straight up.
- 2:05:32Speaker 5: Now I gotta, yeah, I do gotta ask what Ben asked.
- 2:05:34Speaker 5: I mean, I don't want you to answer, but like,
- 2:05:35Speaker 5: what did you want? Like, what did you want that
- 2:05:38Speaker 5: they didn't have? That they didn't, because they did.
- 2:05:40Speaker 6: Do that, but don't answer. Anyway, we gotta go. We
- 2:05:43Speaker 6: gotta go. One last thing.
- 2:05:45Speaker 7: It's the one thing I'm looking forward to is that
- 2:05:47Speaker 7: they left on the table for as a hanging thread
- 2:05:49Speaker 7: was that John being confident that he and Guy won't
- 2:05:52Speaker 7: collide going forward.
- 2:05:54Speaker 6: I was like, oh, we're going to see that happen.
- 2:05:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. And also, I think the other thread is
- 2:06:00Speaker 3: what we were talking about is that his ring is
- 2:06:02Speaker 3: still has yellow in it. You know, all that's to
- 2:06:05Speaker 3: be left for season two, et cetera. You know, so.
- 2:06:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:06:09Speaker 3: I was, that was something I was a bit disappointed in,
- 2:06:11Speaker 3: but I'm also like, you know, it would have been
- 2:06:14Speaker 3: really weird if at the end he turns yellow and
- 2:06:16Speaker 3: it's like, you know, at the end, you.
- 2:06:18Speaker 2: Know, he would turn green.
- 2:06:20Speaker 6: What is he, the amber?
- 2:06:21Speaker 5: He's a lantern now.
- 2:06:21Speaker 6: Like, what is he?
- 2:06:22Speaker 2: No, he's still green.
- 2:06:23Speaker 4: It's just, you know.
- 2:06:25Speaker 6: Light-skinned lantern.
- 2:06:26Speaker 2: Okay. Light-skinned lantern. Sprite. Sprite. The lineman.
- 2:06:29Speaker 5: The lineman.
- 2:06:31Speaker 4: The lineman lantern.
- 2:06:33Speaker 2: That's it.
- 2:06:39Speaker 6: I guess, niggas.
- 2:06:40Speaker 9: Y'all let us know in the comments who y'all think
- 2:06:43Speaker 9: should get waterboarded next.
- 2:06:45Speaker 2: Oh my God. Let us know. Not even on the show,
- 2:06:49Speaker 2: just in general, who is this? Who would you not
- 2:06:52Speaker 2: care about getting waterboarded? Who would you not care about
- 2:06:55Speaker 2: getting waterboarded? Put hashtag waterboard in the comments. Hashtag waterboard.
- 2:07:00Speaker 6: Wow.
- 2:07:02Speaker 2: Don't drag us down.
- 2:07:03Speaker 8: That's the most said word this episode.
- 2:07:09Speaker 9: Probably letting that shit fly between Nebraska and waterboarding those
- 2:07:12Speaker 9: are like the most.
- 2:07:13Speaker 7: That's probably the saddest thing about the algorithm is that
- 2:07:15Speaker 7: all the other things that we can say that would
- 2:07:17Speaker 7: get us blocked but waterboarding is not good.
- 2:07:19Speaker 3: Yeah we could just keep are y'all sure we about
- 2:07:21Speaker 3: to test the box waterboarding sounds like a fun activity
- 2:07:24Speaker 3: like it sounds like you surf it does you know
- 2:07:27Speaker 3: what I try to go waterboarding like it sounds mad
- 2:07:29Speaker 3: fun it does sound like a vacation yeah a vacation
- 2:07:32Speaker 3: activity I waterboarded if you last saw me that shit
- 2:07:34Speaker 3: was lit like it's on the list of excursions yeah
- 2:07:39Speaker 3: ride a horse to the sea do a.
- 2:07:42Speaker 2: Little waterboarding with the dolphins.
- 2:07:46Speaker 1: Imagine your wife would be if you woke up like
- 2:07:49Speaker 1: babe so um I got us booked for waterboarding 3 p.m.
- 2:07:56Speaker 2: At 12 p.m.
- 2:07:58Speaker 6: It's a surprise.
- 2:07:58Speaker 2: Surprise.
- 2:08:00Speaker 4: Anniversary.
- 2:08:03Speaker 6: Are we in Russia? Is this a KGB hazing? What's happening?
- 2:08:08Speaker 2: No, we live in America. Like I said, we're the
- 2:08:11Speaker 2: king of this shit. I was not thinking about waterboarding
- 2:08:14Speaker 2: until this show. Waterboard? It's like quicksand. You don't think
- 2:08:18Speaker 2: about that shit unless you see it.
- 2:08:20Speaker 3: This is quite true. It's not something that comes up
- 2:08:25Speaker 3: in casual conversation.
- 2:08:26Speaker 5: Is there anything else we left behind? So we got
- 2:08:29Speaker 5: to wrap this up.
- 2:08:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:08:30Speaker 5: Anything else we left behind? Y'all think I'll set everything
- 2:08:32Speaker 5: you need to say about lanterns. One of the best
- 2:08:36Speaker 5: TV shows in recent history.
- 2:08:38Speaker 3: One thing I will say that because I saw this yesterday,
- 2:08:41Speaker 3: I saw a couple of people say this, that this
- 2:08:43Speaker 3: show is a middle finger to comic book fans and
- 2:08:46Speaker 3: fans of the comic.
- 2:08:47Speaker 4: And I'm just like, you'll get a life.
- 2:08:49Speaker 6: It's a middle finger.
- 2:08:50Speaker 5: To unimaginative fans. comic book fans who don't understand the
- 2:08:55Speaker 5: purpose of comic books.
- 2:08:57Speaker 3: And to fans who have read very specific Green Lantern
- 2:09:00Speaker 3: comics and have not read enough.
- 2:09:03Speaker 5: I would even buck against that. It doesn't matter whether
- 2:09:07Speaker 5: you read enough. It's a fucking comic book based off
- 2:09:11Speaker 5: of an official character that has a million entry points
- 2:09:14Speaker 5: and a million exit points.
- 2:09:15Speaker 6: These characters have been written over and over 30 different ways.
- 2:09:19Speaker 4: This is all true.
- 2:09:20Speaker 6: Like, give me a break.
- 2:09:22Speaker 2: I don't care what you read or didn't read.
- 2:09:24Speaker 5: None of these characters are, what's the word where you just,
- 2:09:28Speaker 5: where they are static.
- 2:09:29Speaker 6: None of these characters are static.
- 2:09:30Speaker 5: Like, that's the first part.
- 2:09:32Speaker 2: People need to get over themselves.
- 2:09:34Speaker 3: I don't have one to say something, but I would
- 2:09:35Speaker 3: say this is the most interesting how Jordan has probably
- 2:09:37Speaker 3: ever been.
- 2:09:38Speaker 2: Yeah. I can say that too. Yeah.
- 2:09:40Speaker 4: Straight up.
- 2:09:41Speaker 1: I was just curious on where you guys rank it
- 2:09:43Speaker 1: amongst the DC TV shows.
- 2:09:45Speaker 4: Oh, um, I really enjoyed Peacemaker, but I'd have to
- 2:09:49Speaker 4: say it's better than that.
- 2:09:51Speaker 7: Oh, yeah?
- 2:09:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:09:52Speaker 3: So out of the new ones, and I don't want
- 2:09:55Speaker 3: to count this as Penguin, but it's still better than
- 2:09:57Speaker 3: Penguin to me still.
- 2:09:58Speaker 6: Out of the new ones, top three?
- 2:10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I like Penguin a lot, man, but this was like.
- 2:10:03Speaker 3: It's like I say, it's one of the rare shows
- 2:10:06Speaker 3: that was examining a lot of things, and Penguin had
- 2:10:09Speaker 3: no blackness.
- 2:10:10Speaker 6: How about to say, Ben, and let's face it, we.
- 2:10:14Speaker 5: we gelled with this show on multiple levels.
- 2:10:17Speaker 3: Personal levels so that makes sense yeah blackness just means
- 2:10:20Speaker 3: a lot to me it being like when you show
- 2:10:22Speaker 3: blackness on screen that's another thing like when i talk
- 2:10:25Speaker 3: about real estate real quick it's like not only does
- 2:10:27Speaker 3: this show have to you know deal with the lord
- 2:10:30Speaker 3: of green lantern corps not only does it have to
- 2:10:31Speaker 3: tell a compelling mystery not only does it have to
- 2:10:34Speaker 3: introduce john and make him a star you know amongst
- 2:10:37Speaker 3: the dcu it has to deal with the side of
- 2:10:41Speaker 3: the fact that things like Justin said that they can't ignore,
- 2:10:44Speaker 3: you know, you can't ignore the racial aspects of this show.
- 2:10:48Speaker 3: And so for it to do all of that with
- 2:10:50Speaker 3: the grace and, you know, great storytelling that it did,
- 2:10:53Speaker 3: that's why I always rate things like this a little higher.
- 2:10:55Speaker 3: I always rate black productions in Hollywood a little bit
- 2:10:58Speaker 3: higher because they, especially when they address these things, you know,
- 2:11:02Speaker 3: and it's not just, okay, we're just a newer race
- 2:11:04Speaker 3: or whatever. So it's that, Because that's more difficult to
- 2:11:08Speaker 3: do in the same amount of space that a show
- 2:11:11Speaker 3: like Peacemaker, well, Peacemaker actually did, but, you know, Penguin
- 2:11:15Speaker 3: did not.
- 2:11:17Speaker 5: I would say this is top three DCU show. And
- 2:11:20Speaker 5: just in terms of just good TV top, also in
- 2:11:25Speaker 5: terms of good comic book shit top is kicking Marvel's ass.
- 2:11:29Speaker 6: Like, it's great.
- 2:11:31Speaker 5: It was brilliant.
- 2:11:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:11:33Speaker 7: I think I've only watched three DC TV shows, like
- 2:11:36Speaker 7: more recent ones. It's the Harley Quinn animated ones, Penguin,
- 2:11:42Speaker 7: and this. And my thing about my rating system, like
- 2:11:47Speaker 7: when I read things, when I watch things, it's always
- 2:11:49Speaker 7: about rewatchability, rereadability. Am I going to rewatch The Lanterns?
- 2:11:56Speaker 7: Or Lanterns.
- 2:11:58Speaker 6: Definitely before the next season. But you mean like a
- 2:12:01Speaker 6: casual watch?
- 2:12:02Speaker 7: I will casually watch the Harley Quinn series, but I
- 2:12:06Speaker 7: won't casually watch the Lantern series.
- 2:12:10Speaker 6: That's fair. Because it has a gravity to it that
- 2:12:12Speaker 6: I have to be in a state of mind for.
- 2:12:15Speaker 2: It's like Andor.
- 2:12:18Speaker 6: Yeah, it is like Andor, and I love Andor.
- 2:12:19Speaker 3: Yeah, Andor is one of my favorite shows of all time,
- 2:12:21Speaker 3: but I'm not in a rush to re-watch it. Because
- 2:12:25Speaker 3: that is something I have to be mentally prepared for
- 2:12:28Speaker 3: to sit through and be like.
- 2:12:29Speaker 4: Okay, I'm going to deal with the feelings that are
- 2:12:32Speaker 4: going to be brought up by this show.
- 2:12:34Speaker 6: I definitely want to re-watch Randor, too.
- 2:12:36Speaker 7: I want to watch Rogue One into both seasons of Randor,
- 2:12:41Speaker 7: or Randor into Rogue One, just to get the continuity
- 2:12:44Speaker 7: together of the timeline.
- 2:12:46Speaker 3: It's sweet when you do that. It hurts a lot more.
- 2:12:50Speaker 3: Rogue One becomes a crushing movie when you watch it.
- 2:12:53Speaker 3: Because I did that on my second watch of Air Door.
- 2:12:56Speaker 3: I watched Air Door and then immediately after it was finished,
- 2:12:58Speaker 3: we turned on Rogue One. and it was fucking crushing.
- 2:13:02Speaker 2: I can imagine.
- 2:13:04Speaker 7: So, like, Harley Quinn, like, so I'll say, like, out
- 2:13:07Speaker 7: of the three DCs that I've watched, I'm like, I
- 2:13:10Speaker 7: like it, but, like, Harley Quinn as, like, for my jollies,
- 2:13:13Speaker 7: I'm gonna go watch.
- 2:13:14Speaker 3: Yeah, no, Harley Quinn is all, it's a phenomenal, especially, like,
- 2:13:17Speaker 3: the first two seasons. I don't think I watched the third,
- 2:13:20Speaker 3: but the first two were, like, phenomenal. When Harley and
- 2:13:24Speaker 3: Ivy do that leap in the car, I think that's
- 2:13:26Speaker 3: the end of the second season they drop off, it's like,
- 2:13:28Speaker 3: This was like, you know, that's two seasons of perfection
- 2:13:31Speaker 3: to me. That was like, you know, Harley Quinn is
- 2:13:33Speaker 3: one of the ones.
- 2:13:34Speaker 6: I love Poison Ivy.
- 2:13:36Speaker 4: Oh, my God. Love that show.
- 2:13:38Speaker 3: How about y'all?
- 2:13:38Speaker 6: Have y'all watched the DC, other DC shows?
- 2:13:42Speaker 8: I have not watched the latest seasons of the Harley
- 2:13:45Speaker 8: Quinn show. I know this doesn't fall under that same umbrella,
- 2:13:49Speaker 8: I think, of like the HBO stuff. But on Prime,
- 2:13:51Speaker 8: I did watch Caped Crusader. Oh, I never watched a
- 2:13:55Speaker 8: lot of Batman content lately. And I, I think you'll
- 2:13:58Speaker 8: love it. They do a lot of twists on, um,
- 2:14:00Speaker 8: you know, a lot of people in his Rose gallery,
- 2:14:03Speaker 8: not just the, how they act, but how they look. Um,
- 2:14:06Speaker 8: you know, they gave us a black Jim Gordon. They're
- 2:14:07Speaker 8: kind of following the, the breadcrumbs that the, uh, the Batman, the,
- 2:14:12Speaker 8: the live action from a few years ago, kind of
- 2:14:15Speaker 8: laid out and they're kind of continuing on with that.
- 2:14:17Speaker 4: And I think that's great. Um, I watched, what do
- 2:14:20Speaker 4: you call it recently?
- 2:14:20Speaker 3: Cause I've been, I've been watching a lot of Batman
- 2:14:22Speaker 3: stuff too for somebody I'm working on, but I watched, uh,
- 2:14:26Speaker 3: what's the one with Bane?
- 2:14:27Speaker 4: The new one.
- 2:14:28Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 2:14:28Speaker 4: Nightfall.
- 2:14:29Speaker 3: Exceptional.
- 2:14:29Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 2:14:30Speaker 4: I watched it the other day. Exceptional. Goddamn Bane is
- 2:14:33Speaker 4: terrifying and that shit.
- 2:14:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:14:36Speaker 8: It's a story that's been told many, many times, but
- 2:14:38Speaker 8: I don't think it's been told like this before. Like,
- 2:14:41Speaker 8: especially from Bane's point of view, I loved every single
- 2:14:44Speaker 8: part of it.
- 2:14:45Speaker 2: I can't wait for part two.
- 2:14:46Speaker 3: So good.
- 2:14:47Speaker 4: All right.
- 2:14:48Speaker 3: Let's wrap this up because we are, please let the
- 2:14:51Speaker 3: people out there know where they can find you at.
- 2:14:54Speaker 9: Um, like I said, I am trend, AKA trend dollars,
- 2:14:58Speaker 9: AKA trend, the cancerian, AKA waterboard.
- 2:15:01Speaker 2: How?
- 2:15:02Speaker 9: And I, you can find me on Thursdays and because
- 2:15:07Speaker 9: we are a podcast or Fridays, actually we drop on
- 2:15:10Speaker 9: Fridays and, um, you can follow us on because we
- 2:15:13Speaker 9: are a podcast everywhere.
- 2:15:14Speaker 2: You get your podcast, tick tock, Instagram, Twitter.
- 2:15:18Speaker 6: What is your podcast about? Why should people watch Because
- 2:15:21Speaker 6: We Are?
- 2:15:21Speaker 3: Because we are three black men that give our unique
- 2:15:27Speaker 3: opinions and critiques on media that we consume.
- 2:15:31Speaker 9: And we also just three dudes that like each other.
- 2:15:34Speaker 9: We funny, you know?
- 2:15:37Speaker 6: And you also run a show where you cheat on
- 2:15:39Speaker 6: a show.
- 2:15:40Speaker 2: Oh, okay. That's what this is about.
- 2:15:44Speaker 9: Yeah, we also be putting belter ass to certain podcasts.
- 2:15:48Speaker 9: because we feud that's a monthly segment that we have
- 2:15:51Speaker 9: our season is coming to a close but definitely go
- 2:15:54Speaker 9: back and listen to.
- 2:15:57Speaker 2: All of it. We had a lot of fun doing that.
- 2:15:59Speaker 8: We got a couple more episodes left. I'm going to
- 2:16:01Speaker 8: do a complete close.
- 2:16:03Speaker 2: You're almost there.
- 2:16:05Speaker 3: We definitely have special stuff coming.
- 2:16:10Speaker 9: There's a whole backlog of stuff that we've done with
- 2:16:14Speaker 9: Because We Feud. Also, just our show in general. We
- 2:16:17Speaker 9: really just have really intense and caring conversations about all
- 2:16:22Speaker 9: types of media stuff. Video games, movies, tv shows everything
- 2:16:27Speaker 9: we touch everything anime comic book comic books now we
- 2:16:30Speaker 9: do uh all that stuff so if you're interested in
- 2:16:33Speaker 9: just having a conversation and you know open things up
- 2:16:36Speaker 9: i ask a lot of wild questions i make a
- 2:16:39Speaker 9: lot of wild statements and uh i'm just glad that
- 2:16:42Speaker 9: uh my boys uh deal with me you know of
- 2:16:45Speaker 9: course i'm not i'm not in hod's words i'm not easy.
- 2:16:50Speaker 5: And I'm just going to add for you guys to
- 2:16:51Speaker 5: help you out. Just, you guys are also culture carriers too.
- 2:16:54Speaker 5: So that's why we fuck with y'all. Just like on
- 2:16:56Speaker 5: Fall Nerds, how we cover media, you know, we cover fandom,
- 2:17:00Speaker 5: all this other stuff.
- 2:17:00Speaker 6: You guys also cover the culture.
- 2:17:02Speaker 5: And by having us on and by like continuing to
- 2:17:05Speaker 5: just multiply, amplify voices, black voices, right? In this space,
- 2:17:08Speaker 5: like y'all really doing the thing, right? I see the
- 2:17:10Speaker 5: little award in Dame's wall.
- 2:17:12Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 2:17:14Speaker 4: Working on that.
- 2:17:15Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:17:15Speaker 5: So, you know, definitely appreciate that you guys came through today.
- 2:17:19Speaker 2: Thank you. Appreciate it. We loved meeting y'all and we
- 2:17:23Speaker 2: had a lot of fun. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:17:24Speaker 2: We did not cheat.
- 2:17:26Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 2:17:28Speaker 2: Never cheated.
- 2:17:29Speaker 3: It was kind of like when the Lakers played Sacramento
- 2:17:32Speaker 3: Kings in that finals. We wanted to see the Lakers
- 2:17:37Speaker 3: keep going, but you know, sure.
- 2:17:39Speaker 8: Right after we beat you guys, they went on to
- 2:17:42Speaker 8: lose like five out of.
- 2:17:43Speaker 4: The next six.
- 2:17:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, the latest one. We just went positive. We
- 2:17:47Speaker 2: just went positive.
- 2:17:48Speaker 3: So bell to ass is not quite the term here.
- 2:17:51Speaker 2: Yeah, no. I don't think so.
- 2:17:54Speaker 9: You know, we're just lining things up. We have a
- 2:17:56Speaker 9: lot of plans for 2027 and things we want to
- 2:17:59Speaker 9: do with that to make the show evolve and introducing
- 2:18:02Speaker 9: new segments soon, too. And, you know, when we start
- 2:18:04Speaker 9: doing live shows and shit like that, maybe I can
- 2:18:06Speaker 9: get y'all to look back.
- 2:18:07Speaker 2: Maybe not.
- 2:18:08Speaker 9: And maybe I could bring some help. Maybe Portia could
- 2:18:10Speaker 9: pop out. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:18:11Speaker 3: Maybe I need that extra, I need that extra, you know,
- 2:18:14Speaker 3: that lift.
- 2:18:15Speaker 6: Remember you said this shit.
- 2:18:18Speaker 2: I'm always going to remember this. I'm always going to
- 2:18:20Speaker 2: remember it. You feel me?
- 2:18:21Speaker 9: I'm always going to remember it. Well, but yeah, thank
- 2:18:23Speaker 9: y'all for inviting us back on.
- 2:18:25Speaker 2: Of course. Thank you so much.
- 2:18:27Speaker 9: We really, like, we're excited to talk to y'all about
- 2:18:29Speaker 9: this because we're like, y'all are the ones carrying this.
- 2:18:32Speaker 2: All this stuff.
- 2:18:32Speaker 9: Y'all are the coolest blurs that I know.
- 2:18:35Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 2:18:37Speaker 2: Definitely. Like I said, I'm sorry for my underwhelming background.
- 2:18:42Speaker 8: You're very in-theme, T. Don't let their words get to you.
- 2:18:46Speaker 8: Thank you. Thank you for carrying the conversation amongst Black people,
- 2:18:50Speaker 8: especially throughout this entire season. I definitely followed up with
- 2:18:53Speaker 8: you guys after every single episode just to see, just
- 2:18:55Speaker 8: to get a different idea, different perspective on, or maybe
- 2:18:58Speaker 8: to even... confirm some of the things that I may
- 2:19:01Speaker 8: have been thinking. So thank you for that. And I
- 2:19:03Speaker 8: hope and know you guys are going to continue to
- 2:19:05Speaker 8: do the same things. We wish you not, wish you
- 2:19:06Speaker 8: guys nothing but success.
- 2:19:08Speaker 2: Thank you, man. Y'all comment section need to chill out
- 2:19:11Speaker 2: on y'all sometimes. Oh, we love it.
- 2:19:14Speaker 3: We love it.
