- nat: Over there, maybe? Anywhere? Okay. Are we recording? Mm-hmm. ⁓ Sucking the gut then. Sucking in my gut. Sucking in my gut. Sucking in my gut. What light? It's not not really facing us. And what about the overhead? Isn't that supposed to be off? Well Okay. Yeah? Yeah. Shall we? Let's. Let's. Where's the camera? It's that thing? Those folks. And it's going. Okay. ⁓ So first first I'm gonna ask people before they even start before we start the episode to make sure you're subscribed. And do that off the top. Yeah. Okay. It's like once you stop like No, it's not right, Mom. Lay down. Lay down. Worry. You're good then. Yep, set. Okay, are you ready? Yeah. What? I'm looking at him telling him to get up and scratch some more. That's not nice. No. Okay. Okay. Here we go. ⁓ hi. Welcome to Feedbag. I'm Nat and once again I am here with the best boyfriend in the world. Rupert. ⁓ that's me. It's you. Hey, hello. and the best dog in the world is here, but he's out of frame. But at some point I'm sure he'll make it into frame. He will. ⁓ hey, before we start the episode, I would like to just first say, can you please check and see if you're actually subscribed to this show? Because many people watch but they aren't subscribed or they think they're subscribed and they aren't. And subscribing to the podcast is super important to help it grow, which we would love for you to do. So please take a second and make sure you're subscribed. Okay. Blah done. Business. ⁓ we had the best experience at Costco, which is maybe something that's rarely spoken. I don't know. I've never had great experiences at Costco till today. Yeah. ⁓ no shade to Costco because we love our huge bottles of ketchup. But I haven't been to Costco since before the pandemic. Wow. Yeah. Cause I really only went there for toilet paper. Right. And now you have meat to get it, I guess. Right. I have you and I have Suzanne and you're always like, Do you need something at Costco? I'm like, it's always gonna be shit tickets. So yeah. And ⁓ anyway. But I needed this stuff for my backyard. So I found in the last couple of years I've been using a garlic spray in my backyard for mosquitoes and ticks. and I feel like it works. I don't know if if it's the if I'm just imagining it. If it's a placebo. ⁓ it seems to work. It seems to work to keep the skeeters away. So, ⁓ anyway, we saw that Costco had this garlic spray for the yard, and when we got there, they didn't. Of course not. So why did we have the best experience? Would you like to tell it? Okay, well well, we went through and first of all, I don't know how you did this, but you managed to get in and out of a Costco for under a hundred dollars. Well yes, and also I didn't even want to go into the Costco because it was like it's a Sunday in the West Island. Everyone is there. It was it was about ten minutes line line to get into the parking lot. And it yeah, and I had to pee like a squished cat. And we were like in the parking lot. And I'm like, I don't want to do this. And never heard that expression. No. Is that a real expression? ⁓ my friend used to say that. Okay. Hi, Mike. R. I. P. Yeah. But His language lives on. It's okay. Okay. I've said that to you before, like a squish cat. Mike also used to say, you know when you get to the certain point of like drinking when you are not enjoying the beer anymore. It's just like this is not he says he used to say it's going down like a sewing kit. ⁓ going yes, that one you told me. I like that. Yeah, and he used to say pee like a squish cat. Anyway. Okay, I had a friend who said it was going down all crooked. Right. I had to pee so bad and we're in this parking lot and there's a thousand cars and there's lineups and I'm like, I don't want to do this. And he said, No, we're almost there. And I was like, I don't want to do this. And he No, we're almost there. And then we found a good spot. Great spot. Near the door. Near the door we got lucky. And then I was in there and I saw all the people in the lineup and I was like, I don't want to do this. No, it was it was it was, you know, Sunday, Costco, West Island. It was full. Going off. ⁓ But anyways, it ended up being A OK because yeah, as you said, I did spend under a hundred dollars, I think eighty around. Eighty bucks and fifteen cents. And this this th great thing that happened happened as we were leaving. Okay. So you know in Costco you have to show your receipt on your way out. And so there was ⁓ two two lines to go and show your receipt to get out, and it's always like, you know, you always see people like trying to jostle into the right line. So I picked the line on the left and of course it it seemed to be the wrong line. And I said it well to myself, I always picked the wrong line. And then Nat is like, ⁓ let's move to this line. And I said, No. I said, when I pick a lane, I stick with it. And I said, Unfortunately, we've chosen the lane that's slow. I said, maybe she's checking every single receipt because it seemed to be much slower. And so I was like silently grumbling under my breath. Yeah. And then as then it started to move. Right. And it was moving faster than the other one, actually. And as we were getting closer, I saw the woman in the front. And I saw her name tag and her name tag said Marlene. And I was like, Marlene, that's not a name you hear much anymore. And I was like, Marlene, okay. And I said, ⁓ should I say hi to Marlene to you? I was like, should I just say hi to her? And then I said, I don't like when people have a name tag because it's unfair. It's like their name is there, but they don't know my name. Yeah. So I said, So if I say hi to her and I say hi, Marlene, I'm gonna also tell her what my name is because I want to level the playing field. Exactly. These are the really weird things that go on. Head. So sure enough, we get to the front and you're here. I'm here. And I'm like, hello, Marlene. She's ⁓ hello. Checking your receipt. Very pleasant checking my receipt. And then I said, I'm Rupert. And then she looked up. It was weird. Like, this is weird. And she's like, Rupert. And then she looked over my shoulder at you and went, Nat, Rupert and Nat, I watch you guys. I'm like, What? What? Yeah. So she got. Really excited, especially about you, of course, because you know. But she was like, she literally jumped up and down a bit. She jumped up and down. And then they hugged. Marlene, she gave you a hug too. No, no. I think it was. Yeah, that's okay. I wasn't offensive. Marlene, you made our day because I didn't want to go into Costco. I had to pee so bad. ⁓ I don't like crowded like that. she really ⁓ ⁓ You really made her day. And Marlene was like, You guys just made my day. Yeah. And we're like, You made our day. And it was so nice. Marlene, you are a sweetheart. And thank you for making our day. And you are the first person, the first person to recognize Rupert and I in the wild from the podcast. That's true. And we said, I wonder if that will ever happen, like just a couple of weeks ago. Yes. I said that to you in a restaurant. I'm like, and I said, I want I When will be the first time we're recognized together? Like, will it have do you think it will happen? I said it'll never happen. Marlene. But she didn't recognize my face. She recognized my name. Yeah, maybe your voice. Well, I don't know. But maybe once the name and then she clicked, I know this guy from somewhere and then heard the name. She made the association. I don't know. We'd have to ask her, but she's long gone. We Marlene, we thought you were lovely. We hope you are watching the podcast. How what a nice treat for us on on this end of things to get to meet you and like see people in real life who are watching and listening to the podcast. It's so nice. What a kick it is. Like it's really Yeah, it's a weird kick. Lovely. Yeah. And I was happy that that happened. Me too. Yeah. Yes. So thank you for that. And on that note, I actually today wanted to share a couple of comments or emails from people who've who are thank you so much for commenting on the episodes, by the way, because again, that helps the podcast grow. And we love hearing like how what you think of the episodes, like your things that you have to say about the episode. We love it when you Comment. and also when you leave ratings for the podcast too, good ratings. Yeah, we like those. We we like those better than the bad ones. yeah. So anyway, I have them on my iPad. What you know I'm this. Why are you why are you acting like you don't know that I'm weird? I know you're weird. I'm in my basement being myself. Can I just do that? I didn't say anything. Okay. I you how you said enough. You said enough with this. With the look on your face. Yeah, well. Okay. This was a this was actually a comment, ⁓ a with a rating back in November when the podcast launched. And I just wanted I d I wanna say hi to Tra Tracycles. Tracycles. Tracycles? Well, what's that? Tracy Tracy Tracycles. Tracycles? Like icicles, but with Tracy in it. Yeah. I hope you're still listening, Tracicles. ⁓ cause sh Tracycles, I'm assuming this is she, but ⁓ said, after years of listening to Nat on radio and the past few years following her on social media, I've come to look forward to her super funny musings and truly genuine take on life. There's no doubt whatsoever that her podcast is gonna be very special, highly entertaining, magically wild, and unpredictable. I'm so looking forward to the mayhem. A preemptive five stars from this grateful soul. Isn't that nice? It's really nice. Yeah. I thought that was what a sweet comment that was. And it was before she even listened. So perhaps you'd like to amend your comment. You may want to withdraw, retract. And we hope you're still listening and out there. And that's was really cool of you. So thanks. Yeah. And I also wanted to say, as per our last ⁓ episode together that we did on HSP. Yes. That resonated with a lot of people. HSP highly sensitive person. Yes. and yeah, a lot of people took the quiz and talked about ⁓ I didn't know what that was and I've always felt different and whatever. So there was a great comment. I want to say hi to Tanya. Hi Tanya. Hi Tanya who said, I love this conversation so much. We are very similar, you and I. I scored a nineteen out of twenty two on the HSP quiz. I think that I became HSP. We n we actually we figured we we realized that was I think maybe she realized she was HSP. She was not became HSP, but that she was HSP. Yeah. ⁓ after having my first panic attack at eighteen. It's pretty tough when you couple it with menopause and everything that comes with it. I definitely am very sensitive to medication as well. So I often avoid it. Unfortunately I also developed anxiety through all of this. I'm really so happy that you both compliment each other so well and have a deep understanding of the delicacies of HSP. Yesterday my bestie, who was also HSP, and I were talking about how difficult it can be to navigate the world. This world. ⁓ and I there's a read more, but I I didn't get it on my screen cap, sorry. Oops. But that was a it was a really nice comment. Yes, it was. And the reason we're saying that. The HSP thing. Like it sounds like we're correcting her comment. It's just because HSP is you're born with it. Yeah, yeah. You don't like get it later from an experience. ⁓ Allegedly. Maybe she's born with it. Maybe it's HSP. HSP New York. Yeah, because now it's Maybelline New York. It's not Maybelline in New York. ⁓ I don't even how do you know this? I don't know how I know. How you how does a f almost fifty eight year old man know it's Maybelline, New York, and not Maybelline. I I think maybe it's Maybelline, New York. I don't know that it's Maybelline Maybe it's Maybell. No. I don't know how I know this. It's just like by osmosis through life, I guess. ⁓ shit that comes at you in social media. I don't ⁓ Yeah. I don't know. ⁓ I'm a bit weird right now. Yeah, are you weird? I think I'm weird. Right now. How do we can ⁓ how do we shake off your weirdies? Do you wanna give me a high five? Because it seems that Every episode now I'm getting high fived. Well, every episode. You are. Suzanne did in the last episode. Suzanne. Do you want to do a high five? Will it make you Yeah. Do you what to do? Yes. You know you gotta come in. Will I execute it properly? I don't Don't even think. You're overthinking. Let's go. You ready? Yeah. High five. All right. It was a good high five. It was solid. Okay. It was just you did a little body thing at first that made me laugh. I don't know what you did. And you also your tongue came out. Did you know that your tongue came out when you did it? I had a thinking tongue on. Yeah. ⁓ my god. That's a thing. I know because obviously I was a kid with the the thinking tongue. Were you the th what is it called a thinking tongue? That's what I call it. It's a really good name for it. Yeah. I always had my thinking tongue out when I was a kid. I'd like Yeah. You look like a thinking tongue kid Why do people do a thinking tongue? I don't know. There's something obviously I don't know. There has to be some kind of physiological reason that we do that. Like the ⁓ You're not thinking. It's like you it's like you have to move your tongue out of the way to get the coordination. It's like when you're doing something with requires coordination or micro what do you call that? Fine motor skills. Okay. Yeah, ⁓ Cutting cutting paper and stuff. But you did this. You went ⁓ was this a f was ⁓ is a high five considered fine motor skills? No, but it is a motor skill. I guess you have to hit another oncoming object in space. Because because the trick of the high five is to look at the elbow and I was like, look at the elbow and I put my thinking tongue out to look at your elbow. Think when I do high fives, but I've I was told by my daughter that that is a way to you're good at it. That's how you get good at it. That's how you'll connect. Okay. But I Well maybe next time I'll do it without the thinking tongue. I did not even know I stuck my tongue out. Wow, I'm gonna have to I don't know if you did at the end. Or during it must have been during. Let's do another one. But don't even think about it. Let's do another one. Ready? Yeah. Hey man, congratulations. High five on that. You did it again. I didn't do it on purpose, I swear to god. I know, but it came out and you bit it. You're like ⁓ my god. The dog is crazy. Sorry, buddy. Sorry, Bolt. He's like, what's going on? I swear to God, I didn't do that on purpose. Now I'm gonna have to know if you give me I don't want to do it again. Cause you think your tongue's gonna come out? Yeah. If your tongue doesn't come out, will you be like all spastic and miss? I think I'll miss. Let's try again, but don't keep your tongue out. Ready? Yeah. You don't don't overthink it. Okay. It's just a high five. Yeah, go. Ready? Yeah. All right. Serious. And I think I hit the mic with my neck as I came in, so it might have a big like in the middle of it. But you look really serious when you do it. How often do I do a thinking tongue? I don't know. I've never noticed it before. I've never noticed that. And I see you doing thinky things all the time. But I haven't seen you do it before. Maybe 'cause it was t it's like it's a new skill. It's athletic. It's sports sportsy. Look in the look. What? Look at his cute. ⁓ hello, cute little face who came in. If you listen to the audio, you should chop him out in the edit. He's very ⁓ yeah. But maybe I'll just maybe just for this part I'll open up the edit so we can see his adorable face. Okay. His Count Chocula. Hello, Count Chocula. ⁓ Okay. So that one the direction we're Do you feel better now? ⁓ yeah, right. This was to de weird me. Yeah. I'm still weird, but I'm not as weird. So yeah. Is because we haven't done the podcast in a bit? I don't know. Let's just Is it Marlene's fault? I'm gonna blame Marlene. I don't know if it's Marlene's fault. Everything's Marlene's fault. No. When you get right down to it. No, it's not. Nothing's Marlene's fault. Zero. Marlene is only joy in the world. She's led an exemplary, fault-free, perfect life. According to our experience of Marlene. So far, she's perfect. Lovely lady. Highly recommend. Five out of five. Her name backwards would be Enelram. ⁓ Good thing her name's not Marlene. ⁓ Do we keep that in? Yes. That's what she said. ⁓ God. No, I don't like this You have to! ⁓ my god. ⁓ that I'm sorry. Sorry, Marlene. Marlene. I feel like we're disappointing. ⁓ it's okay. I feel like we're disappointing Marlene. Hey buddy. Can we just call this podcast Disappointing Marlene? Yes. Can we screw Feedbag Disappointing Marlene. The disappointing Marlene podcast. Okay, you need to sit, bro, because perfect. where you should be. okay, welcome to disappointing Marlene, everybody. ⁓ I I r also remembered, ⁓ God, I don't like I I don't I didn't know what Marlene was backwards until I said it. I know, I know, because you're always doing weird things with words. You said before we started recording, you were like, hey, Feedbag backwards is Gabdeef And they said you should have called gab bag. Right. Because then it would have been gab bag backwards. Okay, speaking of that, there was one more ma mail that ⁓ email or whatever that I wanted to mention. I want to say hi to ⁓ Bridget, who asked me a long time ago why I called the show Feedbag. And I wanted to say, ⁓ I don't know. No, you have a lot of time to think about it too. There's no great like mystery. I wanted I felt like it encompassed the feeling of many things. Like just like I'm interested in a lot of different things and having different conversations, experiences, you know, people on. It just seemed like it was a catch all word for a lot of stuff. Right. That you can just dig into. And technically a feed bag is what they put on a horse, right? That's right. They strap it on his head with his grain or whatever in this little bag and he just eats from a bag that's stuck to his head. Right. Right. Like very much like me. and me with chips. Like me with chips too. So at one point I thought that we should make like should we make feed bags for this show and and give ⁓ out. But like not many people have horses these days. No. I don't think that'd be a great marketing gimmick It's like a WKRP turkeys. It'd be terrible. Yeah. ⁓ Okay. So thank you, Bridget, for that question and ⁓ that's the ⁓ We don't know? ⁓ no. No, it's like a catch all name. Right. Yeah. ⁓ and anyway, I really I it just The name feedback feels very like like what's the word? I don't know. Very grab-on, very like not like it feels casual, relaxed. Yet catchy. Eating snacks at home on your couch. Yeah. Kind of feeling to me. Well, we are on the couch. Yeah. Yeah. We aren't eating snacks, but this licking toes so that's almost as good. ⁓ Okay, let's talk about your birthday gift. ⁓ okay. Well, there were Four or five. But the one you want to talk about is an event that's on in town at the old port. It opened on the twenty first of May. That was Thursday. And we went to see it on Saturday, which was yesterday for us. And it was fantastic. And it is the Black Mirror Experience, which Nat bought for me as a gift for my birthday. And we went Saturday and it was a blast. Wow. It is so good. It was fun. It's virtual reality. And I had never done virtual reality until last summer ish when we went and we played Squid Games. So I'd never had a VR set on my head ever. I didn't know what it was like and I was always a are you okay over there? Okay. Get comfy. ⁓ hot and bothered. Okay. I'm cold and bothered. Are you good? Yeah. Do what you need to do. Okay. Okay. Okay. So, yeah, I've never ha done VR before and we did VR last summer. and I I was was kind of I always was kind of bit I always was a little bit weird about trying VR because of migraine and like dizziness and vertigo and stuff 'cause sometimes I get vertigo and but it was always been fine. And ⁓ so Black Mirror. I didn't even know it was VR. You were like, This looks cool. I'm like, this looks cool too. And we went Yeah, I assumed it would be VR, but I didn't I didn't expect to be as good as it was. It was so good. It was so good. Right. You kind of are we're with we were with these other people, like four other people. From Alberta. From Alberta, in this group where you just navigate this VR world where you get like you get a personal agent. Who belongs to you, that's in the VR world. But the world itself is incredible. It's amazing. It's amazing just the technology itself. The way putting on a VR headset is so immersive where you're actually like You're in the place. You really feel like you're there. And you you can get like fear of heights, even. Yes. Like you're standing on an imaginary pad, which is only like, you know, four feet wide, and you look over the edge, and it's a big. drop to Lord knows what and you actually feel like it's really there, even though you know it's not. Yeah. It's really it's really impressive. It's really incredible. Like yeah, they put you're ⁓ in i in this VR world, you're on these platforms and you're zooming through tunnels and you're then you're walking through tunnels and Yeah, avoiding lasers. Avoiding lasers and and it's really interactive. Like there's parts in Black Mirror experience where you speak into microphones and then but they Yeah, this the it catches what you're saying. Yeah, like there's a well, we without spoiling it, there's like a scene where you speak into a microphone where you mention a dream. Yeah. And you just say what your dream is, but you're standing in a like like literally you're standing in a room with a bunch of people just standing around with these heads on the Yeah, in in actuality, yes. In virtual room. With a headset on, you're like in a different and like this fake microphone pops up in front of you and you speak your dream into it. But then The next thing is that the dream gets interpreted and then visuals are created from what the dream you said. And so then you see it on the big screen or well, it's not the big screen actually, but it feels like a big screen. The world you're in. It's it is it's really well done. It's so impressive. It's hard to describe. It's more of a thing that you have to go do. Yeah. there's not a lot of like let's say you don't like those VR experiences where you are like a Fighting or running or like do it zombies. It's not scary. It's it's for all ages and it's really just walking. A little bit of like walking. It's not actually for all ages. Pardon me? It's for twelve, from twelve up. ⁓ twelve and up? Okay. Yeah, because they were like warnings about kids with the VRs and sh Yeah, yeah. It's twelve and up and it's ⁓ like don't go if you have certain medical conditions. But yeah, if you're pregnant, pregnant women can't go. Okay. yeah. So it was just It was fascinating. It was a really in d ⁓ a way more in depth VR experience and long enough, like you really feel like you got your money's worth. ⁓ fantastic. Highly recommend for you to check out. And we're not g ⁓ would it be nice if maybe I'll send this to some people and see if we can get some tickets for for a podcast. ⁓ that'd be nice. You know, viewers, that'd be great. ⁓ but ⁓ anyway. You also got me something else. Yeah. You took me out to dinner. I did. And we had marathon soulaki. Yeah. My choice. And it was delicious and excellent service. Yeah. The food was like really like r it was I don't know what it was, but it was really like ⁓ tight. It was so good. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that was really good. And then you got me a couple of little gifties and t shirt and I I think you should leave a tea towel and I hope the shirt fits. I think it will. Looks like it will. I'm wearing a shirt that you got me today. Immediately no. Yep. Yep. Immediately no. It's your life story. Yeah, c was talking about it yesterday because after we did Black Mirror, I was so like jazzed and I said, I wanna do more stuff like that. Yes. And But always my Your first answer is always no. Like whenever I'm like, hey, there's this thing. No. Okay. I don't want to be immediately no. You're not like that. That makes you sound like a lamo who doesn't want to do stuff like that. No, because sometimes I'm like a no, but then you have to just give me time and then I'm like, ⁓ okay. Yeah. So you're no for like loud concerts and like as I know, like I bought a lot of concert tickets this summer. Like I'm really excited about my summer because I've seen a lot of shows. Saw Electric Callboy, awesome. Yeah. ⁓ I'm gonna see Cake. Going to see Avenged Sevenfold. Who else we going to see? I'm going to see Jeff Tate. I know there's a few more. See some comedians too. But I always buy these tickets. I always buy two tickets, hoping she'll come, but I know usually she won't. Because well, there's there's there's reasons. There's reasons. There's the hearing reason. There's the there's the just the loud. Yeah, but the hearing reason is the most. Yeah. Cause I don't I don't this is maybe something I could talk about in another podcast, but like I'm hearing impaired and it's worse than ever. Right. ⁓ I wear two hearing aids. ⁓ a lot of people wouldn't guess that, but I do, and it's genetic. So, whenever I go into a loud environment, it I know I can wear earplugs and everything, but it actually I'll get tinnitus despite that, and it's not pleasant for me. So that's why I don't like going to like loud loud stuff. Right. But stand up comics too, unless it's somebody who you really want to see. Like Nancy Maria Bamford, but other than that. Yeah. So anyway, so I always bought these tickets to all these things, and then, you know, she's like, no, I don't think so. I'm like, okay. But I buy it knowing that that's likely what's gonna be. And you're gonna have to find friends. It's too bad you're coming to cake. You're not well, a bit. You're not. You're really not a lamo. You said it, not thinking it's true. You're not a lamo. I'm not a lamo. You're not a lame old. I I'm not a lame old. What's the opposite of lame? Frickin' cool. You're a frickin' culo then. This is weird. A culo in Italian is ass though. So I just called you a frickin' ass. It's okay. There's worse things to be called. ⁓ what do you feel better now? Yeah. Yeah, but I feel like we're saying dumb stuff and it's not good. Yeah, it's a bit dumb. But I can always edit. Let's hope can you save what we've done? Yeah, I think I think what we did is pretty good. There's more though, right? Yeah, I was gonna talk about yard stuff, like all those gross creatures. And your raccoon and stuff. Okay. Does it end in Do you wanna do you have any good stories? Do you wanna tell About wildlife or good score good stories? You want a good story? I can look at my good story list. Okay, look at your good story list. Let's I'll be over here petting the dawg Good stories. Good stories. That joke about Marlene was pretty funny though. Okay. Good thing she's not Marlena. Okay. Should we talk about what we did with Bob Ross? Yeah, let's talk about what we did with Bob Ross. But while you you can start talking about that and I will look for my list. Okay, but do I talk about being high? No. No. Okay. No. Okay. Hold on. Camping jokes. My stories. Found them. Okay. But the Bob Ross thing only works if you're high. Should I say talk it? Yeah, maybe not. Okay. Yeah. Well it I it only works. It just seems like he would only want to do that if you were high. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, I've got a bunch of stories. I'll tell you what they are and you decide which one you want to hear. Ooh, okay. I've spin the wheel of stories. Pew. Okay, wait, there's grocery over there's grocery overnight car. Daniel falling in a hole is pretty good. Also a good title. It is. Actually, it's Daniel Falling in the Hole, is what I wrote. Then I have Wasp Attack. Fifui. You know what Fifui is? It's the way a French Canadian pronounces the word the term fifth wheel. ⁓ I never told you the fifwe story. Okay. No, ⁓ you did, but say the w say the slang again. Fifui. Fifwe? Fifoui. F I F W E E. Fifi. A fifwi. Okay, never mind. And there's shoe repairman. What is your favorite story of this list that you'd like to tell about? Let's see, there's underwater sprinkler. There's maybe that one. Underwear sprinkler. I can't say underwater sprinkler. Yeah. Fridge repairment, no placenta? Placenta's pretty good. It's a pretty good one. It's not seasonal though. It's not seasonal I'll save it for Christmas. Bird karma. Scientific experiments? ⁓ When I was too fat to be maybe not. I think that's a really good one because it's sad. It's a sad story. I'll tell the scientific experiment story. You ready? Okay. Storytime with Rupert, everybody. Okay. Hey y'all, gathering. It is story time. It's not that great a story. And PS. Yeah. I think it's great that you save your stories on your phone. Like things that have happened to you and you have a list going. Yeah, because you know why I started to do that was because ⁓ like my dad has a bunch of stories and stuff. But they're not written down and they're just in his head. And you know, eventually where will the stories go? So I decided I wanted to like write my stories down. So actually some stories I actually wrote in short story format, like some of the ones I mentioned, but then I said I better just keep a list. And eventually I'll write them or I'll just remember to tell people them. And so the first one is what did I say I was gonna talk about? Under was it under under no, it was the science experiment. The science experiments. Okay, so back in ⁓ this is a long time ago when I was married, I think it was 2003, ⁓ there was like a lot of turbulence in the IT market and I was out of work. And it was the second time of out of work in a very short period of time. So all my savings were gone, had a new house, new kid, a second new kid. So Fiona was just born and I got my contract was cut and I was unemployed. And it it wasn't good because it was like we need money to come in because I think no at the time Sandra was on paid maternity leave, but so it was fine. We were getting some money from maternity leave, but it wasn't enough to keep our bills. So I had to find work and I was trying to find work. I couldn't find work. And so finally, ⁓ my ex-wife who's a nurse, she's like, you know, they do these these programs like for testing experimental drugs and stuff like that. You know, you hear ⁓ on the on the radio all the time. I always hear them on the radio and I even would like voice commercials that were that and I always wondered who signs up for the Unemployed IT people. But no, I also thought that and I came in there with a lot of judgment because see my ex wife was like she's a nurse, so she's like, you know, these things are really professionally run and you'll be very well treated and very well supervised. And they're important. And you're you're helping out society. And she was Doing the spin on it because I was like, I can't do that. And I gotta say, I felt like like arrogant and like it's beneath me somehow. Right. Right? You know, I really felt that. And I was like, ugh, it's gonna be a bunch of losers with like an extra arm growing out of their forehead because of all these weird drugs they've been taking, or something like that. You had like a lot of preconcieved That's why went in there like already feeling really bad about myself because I can't get a job and now I have to sell parts of my body to science in order to feed my family. That's but but also respect for that. You're like, I'm doing this because should have delivered pizza. But anyway, so anyway, I go yeah. I'm like like it I walked in there thinking with contempt and this is beneath me, but I need it. What was it for? Do you remember? It was Tylenol. Okay. But I don't I would have to take like a certain period for a cer I don't know. There were Tylenol maybe interaction with another drug or something. I don't know. But it seemed harmless it was something like four thousand bucks. Yeah. I was like, you know, and I'll just spend my time where I'm locked up writing a million reasons why I'll never be unemployed again, and it'll be a win-win. And so I'm there, okay, I'll do it. And so I showed up and I'm like, all right. And I get to the lobby, and of course I'm all judgy about everybody the walking in, and there's like everybody knew everybody. And it was so it was kind of what I thought. Like all the people there in the pool were like, Hey, Salu Jean. And I was like, You guys know each other? And then like one of the women who was like, it seemed like it was her 56th time she'd been there because she was like to the doctors, like, ⁓ salut Jean Guy and all this. And I was like, Wow, it makes sense. There's like ⁓ a circle, there's a network of people that sign up. I think maybe some people do this as their primary income on the side for something else because it does pay well for what it does. It pays well and a and a lot of them ⁓ I not all the ⁓ they seem like not harmful. Like no, they're legit. And it's not legit, it's not like hey, we're testing out this new drug that might make You know, one leg shorter than the other and harvest a kidney and do some tests on it and then give it back to you. Right. We just need to your internal organs. What's your problem? No, it's it's actually on drugs that are already released and approved. So Okay, wow, they they knew each other. Yeah, and that was really weird for me. I was like, ⁓ god, you know, it's like a click. It's like a click and now I'm I'm gonna be friends with all these losers. It's really like so arrogant, so dumb, but whatever. Plus, I'm also already feeling like a piece of shit, because it's like I have to do this. So they bring me into the medical room because you have to go through this like cursory exam to make sure you qualify. And so the doctor, he does, he asks me a few questions, whatever. And then he does like a physical exam and he measures my wrist. And then he kind of goes, hmm, what did you say you weighed again? And I was like, well, whatever it was at the time. And he goes, hmm. He flips my wrist, he measures it like this. And he goes and measures my other wrist. And he goes, I'm sorry. I'm like, what? He goes, We you can't be, you're not eligible for this exper or for this trial. I'm like, what? Why? And he goes, 'cause like, I'm not even good enough for this. And you're like, I don't even want to be here. And he said, because you weigh too much. You're too overweight. And I was like. What? Like, and it was like, I'm not even good enough. Like, remember, I came in there thinking these people were all like shit people and all this, and they're not. And you're they're obviously not. And they're like, I don't even fit with them. So it was a real like I know it's all dumb, but it was a real like ego crusher. Of course. Okay, so I get in my car. You're like, I'm gonna nail this. I'm gonna there's no there's no way I'm gonna like No, I didn't even think you could be rejected because it's like Like we have ads on the radio. We want people to take it. Right. And I'm like, okay, I'm a healthy ⁓ man in my 30s or whatever it was. I was like, no, you're you're not healthy enough to be experimented on. And the feeling of that was just so hard. And I went out and I got in my Volkswagen golf I had at the time. And I sat in the parking lot and I cried in my car because I was like What am I gonna tell my wife? Yeah. How am I gonna tell her I'm too fat to be experiment? It was awful. It's awful. And so that didn't end my rotten day. So then I'm driving home from this, like thinking, I'm on the 15 north. I'm thinking, how am I gonna tell her, ⁓ my god, this is so humiliating! And I'm driving along, and then there's a guy, of course, kissing my ass. I think I was going like 120, and he's like, right on my ass. I'm like, Today, Satan. I didn't want that, you know. So rather than move out of his way, I just said, I'm gonna turn my mirror like this so he knows I'm not even looking at him, right? That's something like my ex-wife used to do. It's always kissing her ass. She'd just move her mirror. And be like, they'd be like, they'd know, but it's a pretty arrogant move. But I was so mad I grabbed my mirror and it came off in my hand. So I'm driving on the highway sobbing because I'm too fat to be experimented on, holding my broken mirror. And then I was like, What the fuck? And then I looked at my screen and as I watched it, it went Your windshield. Yeah, my my windscreen windshield completely cracked top to bottom. Is it from pulling the thing off or just Well, I went to adjust it, but I guess I was pissed like fucking, you know, and I and it came off and I think I broke a little bit of the glass, came out with the and then wherever it stuck, and then it just cracked. And I like an unemployed, and there's another five hundred dollars or whatever, right? So I pulled off the highway and I went to the Walmart that was there and I bought some glue to try and stick my mirror back on. ⁓ my god. It was humiliating and pathos is funny. Yeah. Yeah. That is a terrible story. And funny in retrospect, but it's like It wasn't funny when it was happening, but while it was but you know, it was pretty funny like a week later. Do you want to want me to give you some drugs and Benadryl and ice cream and stuff like I don't know because like you couldn't be experimented on. So you want me to like You can experiment on me. I'd let you. But but no you won't want to. Nobody wants to. Wow, what a it's terrible. Yeah, maybe I'll tell another story 'cause that's pretty weird. No, it's a good story. It's a good story. That's a great story. Is it? Yes. Okay. It's just like ⁓ bad luck after bad luck kind of story. Yeah. We've all I think I think we've all had those kind of days, but like not to such a degree. It was really like that's a Memorable. It's like not only are you an unemployed slob who can't get a job and can't feed your family loser, you're also not good enough for us to even just use your body for science signing a waiver, you know? And that's not even good enough. And then ⁓ and you don't have any money, but now you're gonna need a new windshield for your car. So go home and tell your family. Take this bag of shit back to your family. Enjoy. Can you feed your family with this? bag of shit from life. No, you can't. But if I can make money off the story, maybe I could. But did you get a job soon after that? ⁓ not too long after. I think I was out like three or four months, but that was long. But and we kinda made a mistake because I didn't see any like new jobs coming down the in the pipeline. Like it was really dead. It was just I was a bit of a circumstance at the timing too. And so my ex wife went back to work earlier than we'd hoped for maternity leave. And that was Bummer because we had to put on daycare like younger than we wanted to, but whatever. ⁓ all's well that ends badly. Yeah. I don't know what else to talk about. I can give a different story that's funnier and then maybe we'll talk about something else. That's a funny that's a funny story. What's a what's a one you want to do? You want to hear about my underwear one? The underwear one's funny. Under underwear sprinkler. Underwear sprinkler story. Okay. I'll tell that one. Tell the underwear sprinkler story. Should this be a separate episode? I don't know. Maybe just put one in a short and just I don't know. Do you want to hear the underwear story? I do want to hear it. Go. Okay, a long time ago I had a house in Laval and I didn't have ⁓ like an in ground sprinkler system, so I had like move my sprinkler around, right? Like most people I guess. And ⁓ I had I'd forgotten that I'd had my sprinkler going in one spot for like a really long time, and it was one in the morning and I was getting ready for bed and everything. So I just in my like underwear. And it was summer. No, they weren't tidy whiteys. ⁓ there's tidy whiteies are the grossest undies. I think of all the undies on a dude, it's tidy whiteies. Yeah. I'd have to agree. Like briefs. There's something pathetic about tidy whiteies. Yeah. You know, like a man who comes in for surgery in an accident, you take off his pants, he's got tidy whities on. Yeah, it's like, ⁓ don't be wearing tidy white. It's like Walter White in the first episode. ⁓ yeah. Yeah, he's wearing tidy whiteies. It's not Yeah, I wasn't tidy whiteies 'cause I have worn tidy whiteys since I like twelve. Okay. ⁓ I don't know what my underwear was. Can confirm. But they were underwear. And it was summer and it was 1 a.m. And I was with my ex-wife, and I'm like, ⁓ shit, I forgot to move the sprinkler. I gotta move it. And she's like, Well, you can't go out in your underwear. I'm like, it's one o'clock in the morning. Who's gonna see me? So I go outside. I'm like literally outside for like two minutes, right? I'm running into my front lawn, moving a sprinkler like 20 feet, and then running back in the house. But sure enough, I go out, I'm Bent over in my non-tidy whities, whatever underwear they were, move in the sprinkler, and then I look up and I see my neighbor across the street who's just like a high bye neighbor. I don't I know his name. Yeah. I think it was Jean Francois, Jean-Pierre, Jean-Pierre. So I saw Jean-Pierre, because I'm like bending over, doing all this, and I just see Jean-Pierre for no reason at all, opens his curtain super wide in his living room, which is across the street, and he's just face to face with me in my underwear, my front lawn, like and then I ran in the house in my underwear. And Sanja was dying laughing because what were the odds? Yeah. Okay. And also, why would he open his curtain so wide? And it was like, I don't know, maybe he's like, ⁓ yeah, it was one in the morning. I don't know why he's opening his curtains. Yeah. Okay, so like a week or two goes by and it's time to sprinkle again. And it's the same scenario. Okay, you forget the sprinkler. It's like midnight this time, though, or whatever. I'm like, ⁓ my God, I gotta go move the sprinkler again. But I got dressed up. Right, yes. And I went outside. And I was in my front lawn moving the sprinkler. And as I looked at Jean what did I say his name of Jean-Pierre? I looked at his house again. This time, and I swear to God, the windows flew open, and Jean-Pierre was in his underwear, and he was in tidy white's, standing at his living room door like this, like an ex spread eagle, like, and I don't know to this day if he was trying to tell me something. Of course it's a message. Is it? What, we're in the underwear club or I'm I'm into it like I saw you and your undies, now you can see me in my he wanted to make it a pl a fair playing field. Do you think so? Yeah. I don't who was he was making eye contact with you? I don't know. I just saw there was the figure in the backlit in his tidy whiteys. And I was like Maybe I thought maybe he's trying to Make it fair. Like I saw you in your underwear. Yeah, you see me in my underwear. But also I don't think any like legit person does that unless they're trying to send some kind of a message. He looked like a French Bob Ross. That's the thing. He had the same fro as Bob Ross. So he was a Bob Ross look alike in tidy whitey's at midnight in his living room window. Did he ever do that again? No. What a strange display. It was really weird and I couldn't figure out if it was really just l accident. Like twice he happened to open his curtains. Maybe he was coming to close the curtains. I don't know. Because I just saw the curtains open with him holding them. Right. So he might have been about to close them because he was in his underwear. But all I saw was, Hey now. And I was like, What's going on? I told her, I'm like, No, I just saw him in his underwear. She's like, What? And But then did you did you ever it which it was he still just a high bye? He was we never spoke of it again. And then and then we moved out. Yeah, so I don't know. I don't know if there's Maybe he's still every every every night at one o'clock. Every night at midnight he's airing out the tidy whiteies. Yeah. Reminiscing of the day. He nearly had it with his neighbor. It's a good story. Thank you. You're welcome. That's the underwear s underwear sprinkler story. Hope you enjoyed it too. So always go out fully dressed unless you want your perverted neighbors checking you out. Maybe I'm the perverted neighbor. I always go out looking like g garbage. I because I bring him out in the morning in the yard and everything, I'm wearing like jogging pants, but like Crocs. My hair is insane. In the winter I'm out in my house coat with insane hair filling up the bird feeders. Like I remember asking my old neighbor my old neighbors, Rachel Rachel and J and James, I'd be like, Do you guys see me when I'm outside feeling the bird feeders? Like looking like a psycho and they're like, Yeah Like, cool, okay. ⁓ man. I've reached that level of life. But at a certain point you don't care. So Right. I was still at the point where I cared. Yeah, maybe he didn't care. No, he was older. So he was like in his fifties, late late fifties. This was when I was in my thirties, so ⁓ I think might have been a proposition. I feel like it was proposition-y. I don't know. What do you guys think? I feel like did John Pierre want a doyuk. Did John Pierre want a dyuk? ⁓ I don't know what else to talk about. Okay. We had no other subjects? Well it was wasps and things. Okay. ⁓ But it's all me talking. You're not talking much. I'm gonna talk now. Okay. Good. But you can talk too. Yeah. I don't know what else to talk about. I'm annoyed with all the midges. Midge. Midges be crazy. Me. Not Moose's girlfriend. No, not that midge. Okay. What's a midge for our viewers? Listen. I hate what? You got super cranky all of a sudden I I think I'm cranky. we ⁓ At the end of last summer I got fungus gnats to like a crazy degree in my front yard and I'm like, what are these bugs flying everywhere? What are fungus gnats? So this summer I'm like, I'm not letting this happen. And so I like removed a bunch of rotting vegetation and I'm spraying some shit and I'm doing stuff and I'm fungus gnat revolting. And ⁓ but now there's a midge problem. So it's a mix of midge and fungus gnats. But midges are seasonal. Midges own don't stay very long. Three or four days. Yeah. So I asked How could that be their whole life? What what happens to the other three hundred and sixty one days a year? The midge free days. Yeah, are they somewhere else? Like what's happening? Are they like instantly regenerating themselves? Like are they hibernating for living for four days? I don't know. I feel like there must still be a low level midge populace to keep it going. Low level midge populace? Yeah. Of breeding breeding midges. Yeah. Yeah, probably. I think I think it's like it's the influx and then it's like levels out. But I have midges everywhere. You walk out of my house and it's like and they they don't bite, ⁓ but they're just annoying. And then there's shad flies too. Those will come later. Those are for a couple of days. There's those are way bigger. But ⁓ those I hate those. It's really annoying, this bug situation. And you you have a hate on I I've never seen anyone hate Wasps as much as you hate. I hate very few living creatures. Yeah. In fact I don't hate any living creatures. Right. Except for wasps and their ilk. Like maybe hornets or Yeah. Okay, stop. No, no. You wanna cue that up again? Yeah, where do we back it up from? I'll start with wasps. Okay. I have never seen you hate anything more than you hate wasps. True. I don't hate many things. I don't hate anything. Maybe that's a cue for something. I no, lay down. Lay down. ⁓ Lay down. Lay down. I gotta get my rubs in. Has he got a chin on the edge of the Lay it down. Good. Good boy. Cue it up again. I have never I've never seen you hate anything more than you hate wasps. You hate wasps. I hate wasps. I don't hate many things in this world. They suck though. They really suck. I just can't stand them. You were very celebratory when you unended. When unalived? You unalived. You delifed a wasp last week. I delifed You were so happy. I was and it it's not really great to revel in murder, but It was my first wasp of the season and sometimes they try to build nests around my entrance. And so this year I'm just sitting out on the balcony minding my own business and the biggest wasp I've ever seen. It was about the size of my thumb. Okay, maybe not quite as long maybe was the queen. I don't know what it was, but it was a huge ass wasp. And it landed on the balcony right at my door and it was like sniffing around and I was like sniffing. Yeah, it was a wasp was sniffing around. Yeah, was looking to build a nest somewhere or something. Well it was it was interesting whatever was going on in my door frame. Yeah. I was like, get out of here. And I was like really mad. And I and so I it flew away because I blah. And then I went in the house. I'm gonna go get my wasp spray. And I went in the house and I realized I'm out of wasp spray. So I grabbed air freshener. The next best thing was Fabreze Fabreze. It was Fabreze - ⁓ orange can. And I went outside and I sat there. I said, He'll be back. I know he's gonna be back. And sure enough, like five minutes later, he was back. So I sprayed him with Fabreze and he kind of went, ⁓ and then he went away. And he came back again, like, what the hell did you just throw at me dude? That's I smell f#%ing great. Could you give me a little Give me some more of that? And I did. It was like he was at the cosmetics counter at The Bay. You were like, Hey, do you like ⁓ Do ⁓ tell your friends! Do you like this? ⁓ I gave him a little ⁓ I gave him a little ⁓ a little paper. There you go, tell your friends. For men. So he came back from more. He wasn't having it. Came back at me. He was So I sprayed him with the Fabreze he wasn't having it have I done? ⁓ And then 'cause he looked like a special wasp. Well, he was so fat. Yeah. I thought maybe it's like the ruler of the wasps, and now he's gonna go tell all the other wasps. It's hard to s wasps. It's hard to say wasps. It's like breasts. Wasps. Wasps. Anyway, so I expected like a whole shitload? Fuck ton? I don't know, whatever. I expected like wasp invasion. Because he was he he would rally the other guys. I thought he was gonna go unite the troops. Come on, common enemy. Let's go get the big thug over there. Yeah, he was some kind of god of the wasps. Right. Leader, ruler. He felt like it 'cause he was big. It was a big And so I said, The Febreze ain't cutting it. I need something better. So I got a can of WD forty. Did I tell you that part? No, you didn't tell me that part. Because I was worried now. I said if the oil gets on his wings, he'll be like, I can't fly and he'll die. And I said, Yeah and then I'll step on him and crush him. Like, I violently hate wasps. Yeah. Okay, so sure enough He comes at me. I hit him with the WD forty. When you say he comes at me, did he have like knives out or something? Like, this wasp comes at me. Was he screaming? Like he came ⁓ to eight by eight ⁓ area with specific intent of causing me harm because he flew right at me and I was like, get away. And they flew away and then came back at me. Maybe he was trying to apologize. No. ⁓ Wasps don't apologize? How do you know? You kill them before they can! That's why I hate them. Because they've never once apologized to me. Because you kill them. You don't give them a chance. After they don't apologize. Okay. I said, Are you sorry? And he said, No. And I said, So anyway, I gave him WD forty. Didn't work. Right. But his joints great. ⁓ But he really He's like, wow, this is you gave him cologne. You gave him like joint pain free. He was like i feel awesome fixed him up, man. This guy's the coolest. What else you got? Give me the next thing. Well, the next thing I had for him was real wasp spray because I went to the store to buy some because I knew he'd back. ⁓ I told my son about it. I'm like, there's this wasp like stalking me all day. goes, ⁓ I don't know where he came up with this, but I believed him but it's not true. But I didn't Google it. He goes, Wasps have photograp photographic memory. like, ⁓ What? It's not true. It's not true. I love that he made up a fun thing. But I don't think he made up. I think he believed that was true. Yeah, he said, wasps have ⁓ photographic memory. And I was thinking it it could be because like a crow will do that. If you're shitty to a crow, it'll come back and it'll tell its friends and they'll harass you for the rest of your days. Yeah. So I'm like, have I like pissed off the biggest wasp in the world? Like, and it's what have I done? Like, I actually got little scared. Yeah. Right. So then I know I gotta be ready for when he comes back because I knew he was gonna come back. And it was always the same guy because he was so big. And he smelled great. He smelled great, and that's how I could recognize. And there was no more squeaking when he flew by. Yeah. So anyway, I pick him up. I didn't pick him up. I picked up the wasp spray at the pharmacy. And I came back home and before even going in my house, I just came and I sat on the balcony with my wasp spray and my bag on the floor. What an old man. I said he's gonna come. And he did. He came within like two minutes and he was not expecting this because I had it ready. And it's one of those ones that shoots like straight. ⁓ it has the little Yeah, it's got like the little cup thing and the little hey And it was like it shoots like Hey now. So it shoots like poison at you from like eight, nine feet. Right. And so he flew at me and was like, ⁓ and I But of course now I'm like in a panic and I'm just spraying my whole house like an idiot. face and head and I hope they didn't have lunch over here . So anyway, then he kind of was like, What's that? ⁓ no, it's a new game. And he kinda went towards the door where he originally where I'd first seen him and I like I almost emptied the can on him. There was like a puddle of wasp liquid and he was like, ⁓ I feel bad for him. I don't. I I felt good right away. I know. You left me a text message about you left me a voicemail about how you killed this wasp and you were like, I know. You were like, I felt so good. I felt good instantly. And then I stepped on him and I crushed him and I twisted my shoe. Like, wow. Yeah, and then I kicked him off the balcony. Go tell your friends he can't tell his friends. Well, his friends will well, I yeah, if there were two, I would have left one alive to go back and tell the friends, but I didn't. There was only one and he had to go. And since since then, you're you're okay. Wasp free man It's only been two days. What a debacle. But like ⁓ what a a scene. ⁓ But I wasps because when I was attacked by a swarm I know. You were Yeah. But I already hated them, but then I really hated them. They're super annoying. At like at restaurants and everything in the summer, they're like all up in your food and they will actually eat your food. Like they want to eat it. Like I I remember watching I used to have a roof deck in this condo where I lived and there was a wasp issue every summer and I used to watch them up close and I'd watch them tear like a piece of my chicken. And they would take it. I'm like, they eat your food? Like you would tear a little chunk of my food out Wow and go away with it. I was like, I never knew they did that. That was better than a chunk of your skin. It is. But I have to say I've I've never been stung by anything. Anything? I don't think I've been stu I'st st I think I would remember if I was stung by a bee or a wasp. You would remember. I'd remember. You'd definitely remember. Yeah, and having been around them for s so yeah, they're assholes though. There was a hu I had a huge ⁓ in my attic, like my house is old and ⁓ one time in this in the winter We had like ⁓ some mild weather a few years ago and I'm in the shower doing my thing and then all of a sudden like this fat, fat, lazy wasp comes out my vent in the top of my shower. It's like inside the shower stall. The fan vent. Boop comes out of it, lands on me. I'm like, what? And I'm la and I'm trying to brush it off and it's half alive, like it's really groggy, and I'm like, What's going on? Killed it. Killed it, right? I can't remember what I did, to be honest. ⁓ I must have killed it. Yeah, good. ⁓ cause it was half alive and it's winter and like I can't let you outside, you're gonna die anyway. Right. So just kill ⁓ So yeah, but I was shocked that that happened. And then and then a and then the next mild stretch of weather, I'm showering, boop, boop, couple wasps come out of the same vent. Groggy. Uh-oh, what's happening? What it what is it like a wasp bar upstairs and they're all getting hammered? There was a nest in my attic. ⁓ And I had ⁓ my friend Chuck. Hi Chuck. Hi, Chuck. Chuck took care of ⁓ mice in my house. So Chuck is the only one that goes into the attic because I don't wanna it's cramped and he even he hates going into my attic. It's so hard to get into. Yeah. And ⁓ I was like, I know you don't handle bugs, but can you handle bugs? And he was like, Yeah, yeah. And he went up in the winter with so they had hibernated up there. I didn't know wasps hibernated. Okay. But apparently they do. And The nest was as big as a football. That's huge. And it's still up there, but it's like he sprayed it like crazy. And they ⁓ they died. But there's like an ⁓ just like a graveyard of wasps in their They killed a wasp nest at my under my pool deck a long time ago. And there's no more satisfying feeling than just spraying, unloading a whole can of that stuff. You gotta do it in the evening when they're like sleepy, 'cause that they're less aggressive. And I just coat their whole house in white shit and then you see a couple like just dropping out. See, you're a little too aggressive about it. I don't wanna do it. Hate them so I get it.
