- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on Gadigal land, always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal land.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Hey chicks, I'm Sal. And I'm Al.
- 0:11Speaker 3: And this is Two Broke Chicks, the show that shares
- 0:12Speaker 3: life lessons and tips to help make you rich in life.
- 0:15Speaker 3: And welcome back to another episode of What's.
- 0:18Speaker 2: The Tea, where we're going to be spilling.
- 0:20Speaker 4: The tea on the internet this week. And today we
- 0:24Speaker 4: are joined by Miss Double Bay herself, Claudia. Hello.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Who is looking fabulous, by the way.
- 0:31Speaker 4: You've really gassed me up. Yes.
- 0:33Speaker 2: The outfit. If you're watching on YouTube, if you're not,
- 0:36Speaker 2: go there.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I was going to say, if you needed a reason
- 0:40Speaker 3: to go to the YouTube, this is it.
- 0:41Speaker 4: To subscribe. And to see Claudia's outfit. It's worth it.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Can we get like a very quick introduction? where is
- 0:47Speaker 2: your outfit from?
- 0:47Speaker 4: We're doing, okay, we're doing Neutral Chimes. I've just figured
- 0:50Speaker 4: out that that's my vibe I'm in right now. We've
- 0:54Speaker 4: got the shoes are from Zara, classic.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Are they? I don't know.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I reckon.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 4: These are actually from Roby, Ruby Tuesday Matthews. Shout out
- 1:04Speaker 4: her brand. Yep. Very comfy. Then we got a Uniqlo jumper.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Sir Blazer. And then a Mr. Zimmy, which I think
- 1:13Speaker 4: is probably the standout of the look.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I'm obsessed. Jumper.
- 1:17Speaker 4: I'm going to go buy all of it.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And it's just really soft.
- 1:19Speaker 4: I love it. And we were talking about it because
- 1:21Speaker 4: obviously it's miserable weather. I'm like... Winter dressing is just
- 1:26Speaker 4: for me.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It's so much better.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Oh, my God, it's elite.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Summer I just want to, like, I get dressed and
- 1:32Speaker 1: then I'm like, that scene in The Grinch.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Being like, I'm not going.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I'm staying home.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it's too much. If there isn't air conditioning, like,
- 1:41Speaker 3: just expect that I'm not going to be there.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yeah. But.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Before we get into our what's the teas, we're kind
- 1:47Speaker 3: of mixing it up a little bit this week.
- 1:49Speaker 2: We have a new game. We have a new game.
- 1:50Speaker 3: So, Al, do you want to run us through for
- 1:52Speaker 3: the chicks what we're going to be doing?
- 1:53Speaker 2: So last week we made up our word obsessometer. Wow,
- 1:56Speaker 2: what a word.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, our obsessometer and how obsessed we are. So I
- 2:01Speaker 1: figured we should bring the obsessometer in physical form in
- 2:04Speaker 1: the form of whiteboards that when we share our tea,
- 2:08Speaker 1: we're going to share how obsessed we are with what
- 2:11Speaker 1: we're bringing to the table first.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And then when we finish the tea, I want to
- 2:16Speaker 1: see if our obsessometer has changed. Yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 2: So the obsessometer is out of 10.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So, you know, a five is like, yeah, it's okay.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Like a nine is like, fuck yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Ten is like, you basically had an orgasm.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And then like one is like, hate it. Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, so you could start as a 10 but
- 2:34Speaker 4: then actually dive into it. You could be like, you
- 2:36Speaker 4: know what, actually I don't like it anymore.
- 2:37Speaker 2: You know what, my mind has been changed. You've convinced me.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Okay, done.
- 2:40Speaker 2: The tea is sour. So that's the obsessive meter. So Claudia. Yep.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I'm very excited for your tea.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Okay. My tea is a little bit of shameless self-promotion
- 2:53Speaker 4: as well.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I'm writing 10 down now.
- 2:55Speaker 4: You've tried it down obviously. But I feel like the
- 3:00Speaker 4: tea at the moment, like for us millennials, I would
- 3:03Speaker 4: say the pub's always been a place.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:07Speaker 3: It's always been a safe haven.
- 3:08Speaker 4: It's always been a safe haven. But the Gen Z,
- 3:10Speaker 4: the younger Gen, they're not really getting around the pub
- 3:15Speaker 4: until now. I think there's been like a huge shift
- 3:20Speaker 4: in a lot of younger people getting out there and
- 3:22Speaker 4: getting to the pub and like– Going to Miss Double
- 3:26Speaker 4: Bass Tribune.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yes, that is what it is.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So is the tea like the pub is back?
- 3:32Speaker 4: The tea is that the pub is back. Not that
- 3:34Speaker 4: the pub, I guess that's why I wanted to say
- 3:37Speaker 4: that the pub really never left. It never left. But
- 3:40Speaker 4: I just think younger people are now getting around the
- 3:43Speaker 4: pub a lot more than what they're used to. They're
- 3:46Speaker 4: wanting an IRL experience. Yeah. And it's almost like they've
- 3:50Speaker 4: discovered what going out in the middle of the week is.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Feels like.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Okay. It's in the middle of the week, I have
- 3:56Speaker 4: to say.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Midweek pub trips.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Midweek pub sesh.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Love.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Okay. Are we scoring? Yep.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Okay.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Okay. Ready? Three, two, one. Oh, wow, 10.5.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Perfect.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Where'd the. 5 come from?
- 4:13Speaker 4: I was just like, you know what, it's more than 10.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate that.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah, so we've all given 10s across the board.
- 4:20Speaker 2: 10 for midweek pub trips.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 3: I completely agree because– I've had seen lots of reports,
- 4:28Speaker 3: you know, around that Gen Z, you know, like they're
- 4:31Speaker 3: not drinking as much, which that's great.
- 4:33Speaker 4: That's not a bad thing at all.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I wish I took that advice. Honestly.
- 4:37Speaker 4: I think millennials did the opposite.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'm a millennial and I'm like a pendulum swing and
- 4:43Speaker 1: I swing a little bit too millennial on that one.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:46Speaker 3: The millennials, they grew up on vodka crayon. Midori.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Midori.
- 4:50Speaker 4: I was even going to say– Did you guys, because
- 4:53Speaker 4: when we were growing up, there was this pub that
- 4:56Speaker 4: we would go to called The Sheaf. Yes. And it
- 5:01Speaker 4: was a tradition to go on a Wednesday and we
- 5:04Speaker 4: would call it Schwenzdays. I love that. And it was like,
- 5:08Speaker 4: let's go to Schwenzdays. Our whole life, which is quite sad,
- 5:12Speaker 4: was surrounded by Schwenzdays and that's where we had a fun,
- 5:17Speaker 4: fun time. Most good memories were made. And then I
- 5:21Speaker 4: was even chatting to my... my husband's younger, younger sister,
- 5:26Speaker 4: and she just, like, didn't have the same experience. No.
- 5:30Speaker 4: And I was like, that's just, I don't know.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's sad.
- 5:34Speaker 3: So I'm excited to hear that it's coming back because, yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 3: the camaraderie of, like, a Wednesday pub night is unmatched.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, yeah, as you were saying, stats, a Wednesday,
- 5:45Speaker 4: they were saying that out of all the weeks have
- 5:48Speaker 4: jumped in terms, especially with Gen Z. Yeah. pub attendance.
- 5:52Speaker 4: So everyone's going out midweek.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Really? So Wednesdays have, like, increased in popularity.
- 5:57Speaker 4: Wednesdays are the new Fridays.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Wow.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Hump day.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Hump day.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Do you know what? That's, like, that checks out because
- 6:05Speaker 2: I feel like Wednesday you start being like, oh.
- 6:09Speaker 4: I wish it was Friday.
- 6:11Speaker 1: And, like, Thursdays kind of feel like a Friday because
- 6:14Speaker 1: you're like, tomorrow's Friday and then it just kind of, like,
- 6:16Speaker 1: bleeds down a little bit.
- 6:18Speaker 2: But I completely agree.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I feel like we live way too much like in
- 6:23Speaker 1: the work week of like 9 to 5 Monday to
- 6:26Speaker 1: Friday and we don't do anything fun outside of it.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And so then it's like, well, what was the week
- 6:30Speaker 1: for when we're living too much for the weekend? We
- 6:32Speaker 1: went to like drag bingo on a Monday night once.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Yeah, fun.
- 6:35Speaker 2: And we were so hungover on the Tuesday.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:37Speaker 2: It wasn't funny.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But it was so fun and it was like it
- 6:41Speaker 1: made the day feel like it was more than just
- 6:45Speaker 1: like going to work.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Yes. Yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I also wanted to ask you about the pub quiz.
- 6:50Speaker 1: The pub quiz is like an art form in itself.
- 6:53Speaker 4: The trivia, yes.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Well, see, this is the thing. Pub trivia has always
- 6:58Speaker 4: been around. It's never not been a thing. But I
- 7:00Speaker 4: definitely think it's always been considered like, oh, it's either
- 7:05Speaker 4: those like– weird freaks who are, like, weirdly obsessed with
- 7:08Speaker 4: trivia and go to every single pub trivia.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Me.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Or it's like an old– sorry, not that you're a
- 7:13Speaker 4: weird freak.
- 7:13Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I am a weird freak. With the freak flag. I
- 7:16Speaker 2: also love a raffle.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I love a raffle.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I have a delusional– I.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Love a meat tray. Yes.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I have a delusional sense of how much I will
- 7:22Speaker 1: win in those. I'm like, it's going to be my number. Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Every time. Never win. Never win.
- 7:32Speaker 4: But even like all the pub trivias that I've been
- 7:35Speaker 4: to in the past, which is why I kind of
- 7:36Speaker 4: wanted to do something a little bit different, like some
- 7:39Speaker 4: of the questions are just so... Plain Jane or like
- 7:43Speaker 4: very sports orientated. Yes. Yeah, they are. Very, you know,
- 7:48Speaker 4: fun fact. Nothing like hyper niche and nothing really for
- 7:52Speaker 4: the girlies.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 7:53Speaker 4: And so I really wanted to do also I'd done
- 7:56Speaker 4: one in COVID. It was an online one which went
- 7:59Speaker 4: really well.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I used to love doing those.
- 8:01Speaker 4: And I was like I want to go to a
- 8:02Speaker 4: pub trivia that I would love to go to with
- 8:05Speaker 4: prizes that I would love to win.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:08Speaker 4: And so I kind of just pitched it to The
- 8:10Speaker 4: Oak and they were like, yeah, keen. And so, yeah,
- 8:14Speaker 4: I mean it's not running it. Hopefully it becomes an
- 8:16Speaker 4: ongoing thing but it was a four-weeker, in and out,
- 8:21Speaker 4: and it was just so fun. Every week I'd change
- 8:24Speaker 4: all the questions and I would make them hyper, hyper niche,
- 8:28Speaker 4: which I think is the thing that really got people going. Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Like there was one round that was like a local
- 8:34Speaker 4: law round just And so it was all just like
- 8:37Speaker 4: piss take questions about the eastern suburbs or like pop
- 8:42Speaker 4: culture figures in the eastern suburbs or even like I
- 8:45Speaker 4: did one, we were chatting about parking fines before, I
- 8:47Speaker 4: did one where it was like a real brain twister
- 8:50Speaker 4: where I had like a photo of a really confusing
- 8:53Speaker 4: parking sign.
- 8:54Speaker 1: That's so smart.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Shut up, that is so good.
- 8:55Speaker 4: And then it was like it's 8am on a Tuesday
- 8:59Speaker 4: and you just parked. How long can you legally park here? Yeah.
- 9:03Speaker 4: And so, like, fun stuff like that which people related to, right?
- 9:07Speaker 4: Everyone in the room, even though they didn't know each other,
- 9:09Speaker 4: could all relate to these questions. And, like, that's what
- 9:13Speaker 4: I loved. It was such a high. even just going
- 9:18Speaker 4: through the answers and having everyone like collectively scream over
- 9:22Speaker 4: whether they got the questions right or wrong. And so
- 9:25Speaker 4: I think like that community, which is what the pub is, right,
- 9:28Speaker 4: at the end of the day, is like the thing
- 9:31Speaker 4: that maybe younger Gen Zs are being drawn to because,
- 9:35Speaker 4: I don't know, maybe they're sick of being online, doom scrolling. Yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 4: And they're like, I actually want to touch and feel
- 9:41Speaker 4: and go somewhere. And feel like I have a sense
- 9:44Speaker 4: of community.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Seriously, I saw this like stat and it was from
- 9:47Speaker 1: Eventbrite and it was that like community events like trivia
- 9:51Speaker 1: or like book clubs or things like community events is
- 9:55Speaker 1: up 300%, like over 300% in Gen Zed. And we've
- 10:01Speaker 1: spoken about it on the podcast before, but it was
- 10:02Speaker 1: due to this thing called like collective effervescence.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Ooh, isn't that right?
- 10:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds sparkly, doesn't it? What does that mean?
- 10:09Speaker 2: It's very whimsical.
- 10:11Speaker 1: And it's basically the feeling you get when you're like
- 10:13Speaker 1: in a large group of people enjoying the same thing.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't love it.
- 10:17Speaker 2: So when you go to a concert and you're all like.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Singing together.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, singing together.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Or like even when you applause together.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, when you clap or you're all like.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Doing a chant.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Wow, yeah. Yeah.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Like I feel like the best example in pop culture
- 10:29Speaker 1: would be like the Queen concert when they do.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Like the Radio Gaga.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:35Speaker 1: It's like that insane clip and they're all doing the
- 10:37Speaker 1: dance and they'd be like Radio Gaga, yeah. Like that's
- 10:40Speaker 1: collective effervescence. And so like Gen Z is like obviously
- 10:44Speaker 1: yearning for that. because they've like been like you know
- 10:48Speaker 1: the COVID generation or like the tech generation that I'm
- 10:51Speaker 1: like it's so cool and I love it and I
- 10:53Speaker 1: really yeah I would like this to be a recurring
- 10:55Speaker 1: thing yeah we need.
- 10:56Speaker 4: To get on the books weekly well I've noticed now
- 10:59Speaker 4: as well like a lot of not saying they were
- 11:01Speaker 4: copying me but a lot of other pubs or media
- 11:07Speaker 4: personalities doing their own Trivia nights, which I'm like there's
- 11:12Speaker 4: enough trivia for everyone. Yeah, there's enough pubs to go around.
- 11:14Speaker 4: But it's cool to see it actually kind of growing
- 11:16Speaker 4: into this thing and even with Batuta we're doing a
- 11:21Speaker 4: branded pub trivia night with like a big brand coming up.
- 11:25Speaker 4: And like so even now brands are jumping onto it
- 11:27Speaker 4: saying like, oh, this is actually– like a great community-based thing. Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 2: So it's cool.
- 11:33Speaker 4: I like it. Anything IRL.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Yeah, we need more of it.
- 11:36Speaker 3: And as much as, yes, it is at a pub,
- 11:39Speaker 3: I love that it's a wholesome activity that– because, like,
- 11:42Speaker 3: my partner doesn't drink, for example.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Is it wholesome? I'm telling you, the girlies at this
- 11:45Speaker 4: pub trivia were sending. Yeah, true, actually.
- 11:49Speaker 3: But it's like, yeah, you can go with a group
- 11:51Speaker 3: of people and, like, have drinks and have fun.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you can have a chilled experience. Or you can get, like,
- 11:54Speaker 2: a schnitty and have a Coke Zero.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:56Speaker 4: And still enjoy it. Yeah, it depends how you want
- 11:59Speaker 4: to go. There was definitely a spectrum of people who
- 12:02Speaker 4: were like, I'm coming, I'm having my dinner, I'm playing
- 12:04Speaker 4: trivia and I'm leaving. And then there were other people
- 12:07Speaker 4: who were like, I'm having a bed now. Yeah, I
- 12:10Speaker 4: will be hosting the office.
- 12:12Speaker 2: We'll do a part two of the trivia. Obsessometers.
- 12:15Speaker 1: All right. Are you ready?
- 12:17Speaker 4: Yep.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Three, two, one.
- 12:19Speaker 4: I've done a 10 out of 10. Yay! Yeah, I've
- 12:22Speaker 4: turned mine into a 100.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I turned mine into an 11 out of 10.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Yep.
- 12:26Speaker 2: I love it. Let's all go to Trivia Queens.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Actually, I can give a shout out of some other
- 12:31Speaker 4: really fun trivia nights if people want to go. There's
- 12:33Speaker 4: a really good one. Lady Chu is doing a pub
- 12:36Speaker 4: trivia at the moment in King's Cross. If anyone wants
- 12:40Speaker 4: to go. That one's a little less pub and more
- 12:43Speaker 4: you sit down at a restaurant. Fun. And it's fun.
- 12:47Speaker 4: And then there's another one at The Royal in Bondi.
- 12:52Speaker 4: They do a really good pub trivia.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Love that. And then.
- 12:57Speaker 4: There was one more. Oh, there's one at the Bondi RSL,
- 13:01Speaker 4: which also does a very good pub trivia. So if
- 13:04Speaker 4: anyone wants to go to those ones, I'd recommend. Absolutely.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Ten out of ten.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Eleven out of ten.
- 13:15Speaker 1: My tea of the week is that skinny jeans are back.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Yep.
- 13:21Speaker 2: All right. Of sesameters.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Ready? Yep.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Three, two, one.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 13:29Speaker 2: This is the most divided we've been, I think. I
- 13:31Speaker 2: gave it a three. Yeah, I gave it a five.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I gave it a seven.
- 13:35Speaker 2: All right.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Can I get a quickfire round of why we did
- 13:40Speaker 1: our scores the way we did our scores?
- 13:42Speaker 4: I just love when a trend comes back. I don't
- 13:45Speaker 4: necessarily have to participate in it, but I love seeing
- 13:48Speaker 4: other people participate in it and just see cycles repeat themselves. Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 4: And so I'm excited to see if the trend does
- 13:56Speaker 4: come back, just us spiralling into a skinny jeans era.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Yeah, totally.
- 14:02Speaker 4: I am, like, really on the fence.
- 14:05Speaker 2: So that's why I did a five. Oh, very good.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Because the thing is, when skinny jeans were dubbed over
- 14:13Speaker 3: and cringe and whatever.
- 14:16Speaker 4: You know, we were all like, I'd never wear them again.
- 14:18Speaker 4: I'd never wear them again.
- 14:19Speaker 3: However, when I look back at like how they were
- 14:21Speaker 3: styled in the really early 2000s and the 80s, I'm like,
- 14:27Speaker 3: I have an appreciation for them. So I just think
- 14:30Speaker 3: that it's maybe like our most recent memory of it,
- 14:33Speaker 3: which is like the early 2010s, like the, you know,
- 14:38Speaker 3: like the fall Tumblr era. pumpkin spice latte like that
- 14:42Speaker 3: yeah that's kind of what like the real peep toe
- 14:44Speaker 3: high shoes exactly the vest the fur vest and like
- 14:51Speaker 3: a scarf and a look and a floppy felt hat
- 14:54Speaker 3: like that's kind of what pops into my head whereas
- 14:56Speaker 3: when i actually think back to like you know like
- 14:58Speaker 3: glam rock in the 80s like i love that look
- 15:01Speaker 3: like bon jovi was rocking skinny jeans like it was
- 15:03Speaker 3: nobody's business.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah Well, yeah, basically they were all over the.
- 15:08Speaker 1: 2026 and 2027 runways across like Gucci, Celine, Dior, Acne Studios,
- 15:15Speaker 1: Miu Miu.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Did I say that right?
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Miu Miu, yeah.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I always get the designer names wrong because I'm in
- 15:20Speaker 2: the wrong tax bracket.
- 15:23Speaker 1: And also Calvin Klein, which like a lot of their
- 15:27Speaker 1: show was like dominated by skinny jeans, I say in
- 15:30Speaker 1: like quotation marks.
- 15:31Speaker 2: And then we've also seen Vogue.
- 15:34Speaker 1: With a new article that came out on the 13th
- 15:36Speaker 1: of October that is identifying, I think, what this trend
- 15:41Speaker 1: actually is, which it's.
- 15:43Speaker 2: The almost skinny gene.
- 15:45Speaker 1: So essentially, I think we're seeing the same treatment that
- 15:49Speaker 1: we do where it's like we hear the term and
- 15:52Speaker 1: we go back to like exactly what it was like
- 15:55Speaker 1: when it was.
- 15:56Speaker 2: In our ye olden days.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:58Speaker 1: That we're like it's essentially a jegging that's a second
- 16:01Speaker 1: skin and we're like.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Yeah. A jegging.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 16:04Speaker 4: I had so many jeggings.
- 16:05Speaker 2: He had so many soup ray jeggings. They were the best.
- 16:08Speaker 4: I was like this is such a genius.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I was like it was so comfy. I was like
- 16:14Speaker 2: and they look like a genius.
- 16:15Speaker 4: They didn't look like a genius.
- 16:16Speaker 2: We weren't fooling anyone.
- 16:17Speaker 4: We have to go shopping right now.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I was like do you guys want to go to
- 16:20Speaker 2: soup ray? And then you'd have like the.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Tote bag that you'd take a pee uniform in school.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Those are the days. Those are the days. But essentially
- 16:27Speaker 2: it's like the almost skinny jean.
- 16:30Speaker 1: So it kind of follows the same silhouette without being
- 16:36Speaker 1: completely tight to the skin.
- 16:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So it like follows the silhouette of your like leg
- 16:42Speaker 1: and it's a little bit like tapered, but it's not like.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Isn't that a cigarette jean?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Well, that's what I was wondering, but apparently not according
- 16:51Speaker 1: to Vogue.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 16:53Speaker 1: So, you know, Vogue also reported low rise, slimmer cut jeans.
- 16:57Speaker 1: like were up in numbers. So I kind of feel
- 17:02Speaker 1: like skinny jeans have been one of those things that
- 17:04Speaker 1: people have been saying are either in or out.
- 17:07Speaker 4: For like ever. Yeah.
- 17:10Speaker 2: It's one of the most divisive trends of all time.
- 17:12Speaker 2: That and low rise. Yeah, exactly. I think skinny jeans
- 17:15Speaker 2: are one of those things that it's like, oh, they're back. oh,
- 17:18Speaker 2: they're out.
- 17:19Speaker 1: And like obviously I think maybe around five years ago
- 17:23Speaker 1: we had that like declaration and it's like Gen Z
- 17:26Speaker 1: have decided that.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Skinny jeans are out.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Or it's like maybe it was longer than that. I
- 17:30Speaker 1: have no conception of time. But now they're coming back in.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Like last year we saw Alex Earl wearing them and
- 17:36Speaker 1: it was like this declaration.
- 17:37Speaker 2: But there was actually a survey.
- 17:39Speaker 1: A YouGov survey, that found that 48% of Gen Z
- 17:43Speaker 1: still considered skinny jeans fashionable, 54% of millennials consider skinny
- 17:46Speaker 1: jeans fashionable, Fashionable, 46% of Gen X and 46% of Boomers.
- 17:53Speaker 2: So I'm like the.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Interesting takeaway is like half like of all the generations
- 17:59Speaker 1: are like, yeah, they're fine.
- 18:00Speaker 2: They're never left.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and the consensus is kind of across the board.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 2: That is so fascinating.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:07Speaker 4: It just goes to show to never chuck out, that's
- 18:10Speaker 4: the hoarder in me, any style of anything. Everything comes back.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Because you will be dusting that off and putting them
- 18:18Speaker 4: back on. Yeah, we will be reheating our own arches.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 18:21Speaker 1: There was also, interestingly, a 25% increase in men's searches
- 18:26Speaker 1: for skinny jeans. No.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I draw the line at.
- 18:31Speaker 4: A man wearing a skinny dress. I'll allow the gays.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Of course.
- 18:35Speaker 4: My gays can do it. We give them a pass
- 18:37Speaker 4: for anything. No, I can't. I'm sorry. It reminds me
- 18:41Speaker 4: of like Ibiza Final Boss.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And they have like the rips in it as well.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:47Speaker 3: See, the thing for me is that like I'm kind
- 18:49Speaker 3: of into it on men. But however, I was going
- 18:53Speaker 3: to say my reference point, because I was going to
- 18:57Speaker 3: say was, but let's be real here.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Like was a huge emo and that's my reference point.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Like all of the boys who I loved when I
- 19:05Speaker 3: was growing up were wearing girls jeans that they bought
- 19:08Speaker 3: from JJ's and we wear.
- 19:09Speaker 4: The same size jean and like that was my type
- 19:12Speaker 4: of man. Yeah, it can be interesting.
- 19:14Speaker 2: She still lives in me.
- 19:15Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 19:16Speaker 2: She lives in you.
- 19:17Speaker 4: Yeah, like my inner– But today if your partner was
- 19:21Speaker 4: like just came and we were getting ready for work
- 19:23Speaker 4: or whatever it is and putting on.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Those– She'd be in time.
- 19:25Speaker 4: I reckon he could pull it off.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I reckon he could pull it off.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Yeah. If anyone could. Okay, I'm not going to yuck
- 19:32Speaker 4: someone's yuck.
- 19:33Speaker 2: He's also still– He's still at the restaurant.
- 19:35Speaker 4: He's still a little bit of an emo.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I love that we have both sides of, like, the coin, though,
- 19:40Speaker 1: that you're, like, smash and you're, like, blast.
- 19:42Speaker 4: I'd be like, I'm sorry, divorce. Yeah, I'm so fair.
- 19:45Speaker 2: You'd be like, here's the papers.
- 19:46Speaker 4: I've called my lawyers.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'll see you at your next wedding to officiate it.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 1: So I think like with all things it's fun to
- 19:54Speaker 1: like talk when, you know, things are coming back in
- 19:57Speaker 1: like you said at the start. But just because like
- 19:59Speaker 1: a trend is coming back into fashion doesn't mean you
- 20:02Speaker 1: have to.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Subscribe to it.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I think it is cool to see when things are
- 20:06Speaker 1: kind of like a little bit more reimagined. When they
- 20:09Speaker 1: come back in, like I think ballet flats have definitely
- 20:12Speaker 1: come in in a way that they're a.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Little bit more edgier, a little bit more cooler.
- 20:16Speaker 1: You've obviously got like the traditional ones with like, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 1: your bows on the front of it. But like there's
- 20:20Speaker 1: definitely some cooler ones that we've seen come in as well.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Capris too.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Never worn them, never will.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Well, that's the thing. It's like I like seeing other people,
- 20:32Speaker 4: especially fashion girlies, reinterpret it in like a modern day
- 20:36Speaker 4: lens yeah and it's cool to see it because a
- 20:39Speaker 4: lot of times it doesn't look like what it looked
- 20:41Speaker 4: like when we wore it.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Way back when exactly but look.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Sometimes it does yeah i like seeing other people experiment
- 20:49Speaker 4: with it would i probably not but i'm yeah i
- 20:53Speaker 4: like seeing people who are experts at playing with.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Trends agree yeah but i want to know from the
- 20:57Speaker 1: chicks in the comments would you are you going to
- 20:59Speaker 1: be dusting off your skinny jeans Or the jeggings.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Or the jeggings.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Yeah, the jeggings is the next frontier.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Is the jegging back? Yeah, let's bring back jeggings.
- 21:08Speaker 4: I wonder if you could get away with wearing a
- 21:11Speaker 4: jegging and people would know. I'm going to do it.
- 21:13Speaker 2: People would be like, is she wearing a jegging right now?
- 21:15Speaker 2: Can you do it at your next pub trivia?
- 21:16Speaker 1: I know.
- 21:17Speaker 4: I want to kind of just like a bit of that.
- 21:18Speaker 3: You need to do that, like have pics of like,
- 21:19Speaker 3: you know how people would do like pics of cavoodles
- 21:22Speaker 3: and fried chicken and you'd be like, which is which?
- 21:24Speaker 2: You should do that but like.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Jeggings or jeans. Yeah. And see. Maybe the technology has
- 21:30Speaker 4: advanced since 2011.
- 21:31Speaker 2: All right. Three, two, one.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Oh.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I've changed my mind. It's a 10.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, because you're thinking about fucking hot glam rock.
- 21:41Speaker 4: I'm thinking about Gerard Way.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Okay, very good. Specifically, it's a 10. Okay. You've increased
- 21:48Speaker 2: by one to an eight?
- 21:50Speaker 4: Yeah. I felt good talking about Skinny Jane, so I
- 21:53Speaker 4: bumped it up.
- 21:53Speaker 2: See? You're like, I liked talking.
- 21:56Speaker 4: I was like, wow, I'm really excited.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I increased mine from a three to a five because
- 22:03Speaker 1: I was inspired by your take of Skinny Jane.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I'm sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit. But, you know,
- 22:10Speaker 2: a little bit of column A, a little bit of
- 22:11Speaker 2: column B.
- 22:12Speaker 4: Yeah, totally.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I don't have a strong feeling either way.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Oh, sorry.
- 22:18Speaker 2: No, you go.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I was just going to say, you know what, actually
- 22:21Speaker 4: could be fun. We could all go find a photo
- 22:23Speaker 4: of us in a– skinny jean era absolutely i.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Have photos of alex and i wearing skinny jeans together
- 22:30Speaker 3: like that's how long we've been friends yeah i love
- 22:33Speaker 3: it that we would wear them to the office like
- 22:34Speaker 3: every single day but i love that you know about
- 22:37Speaker 3: your um five l and like some of these i
- 22:40Speaker 3: also love i'm like let's bring back lukewarm opinions yeah
- 22:43Speaker 3: you know what i mean like about skinny jeans like
- 22:46Speaker 3: i don't need to have a fight with somebody in
- 22:48Speaker 3: the comments about it i'm like yeah Let's love it
- 22:50Speaker 3: or leave it.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Do you know what my favourite thing to say now is?
- 22:54Speaker 2: I have no dog in the race.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Yeah, that has been a new one in the rotation.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and someone said it to me the other day
- 22:59Speaker 1: and I was like, you say that a lot. I'm like, yeah,
- 23:01Speaker 1: because I don't care.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Like if I care, you'll know because I literally can't
- 23:05Speaker 1: shut up about anything.
- 23:07Speaker 2: But I'm like, yeah, but you know what? I've got
- 23:08Speaker 2: no dog in the race.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Or you can say I'm Switzerland, which is probably a
- 23:11Speaker 4: bit dated.
- 23:13Speaker 2: No dog in the race. Love it. Not my circus,
- 23:14Speaker 2: not my monkeys. Yeah, all of that. That's okay. All
- 23:17Speaker 2: of that.
- 23:17Speaker 1: It's one of those things that you go and you're like,
- 23:20Speaker 1: After you've just, like, needed to really have a good
- 23:22Speaker 1: vent and you're just like, but, you.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Know, love her. Yeah, totally. But she's great. But she's great.
- 23:28Speaker 4: She means well. And, you know, the skinny jeans mean well. Yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 3: And that's a wrap on this episode of What's the Tea?
- 23:35Speaker 3: But before we love you and leave you, where can
- 23:37Speaker 3: the chicks find you, Claudia?
- 23:39Speaker 4: They can find me on Instagram. That's my main shtick,
- 23:42Speaker 4: I would say, at Miss Double Bay. Or you can
- 23:46Speaker 4: find me at... Yeah, let's just do it. Yeah, keep
- 23:50Speaker 4: it simple.
- 23:50Speaker 3: I love that.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I love it.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Thanks, Jookies. Yeah, thanks for having us in your ear holes.
- 23:54Speaker 4: We'd love to be here. Bye.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Bye. Bye.
