- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Pinch took back at fifteen doesn't mean he
- 0:16Speaker 1: wouldn't have been there in the second round. I mean
- 0:18Speaker 1: I don't know that another team would have picked him out. Fred,
- 0:21Speaker 1: you really are just like rattling the hornets. Testy comments
- 0:26Speaker 1: like Eric wouldn't go to heart. I've been to Arthur's
- 0:28Speaker 1: with you when you ate, mate, When when you have
- 0:32Speaker 1: as today? Remind me someday when I leave Fred, Yes
- 0:37Speaker 1: the earth have you been to MP sandwiches as usual?
- 0:41Speaker 1: Fred doesn't know all the places I don't go for lunch.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Ted Williams, you know used to fish with my grandfather. Yeah? Really? Wow?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Please tell So. My grandfather was a longtime track coach
- 0:55Speaker 1: at Tufts Clarence Ding do So. The track of Tufts
- 0:57Speaker 1: is named after him. Do So teaches the Red Sox
- 0:59Speaker 1: how to runs. This is the crazy story John Henry
- 1:02Speaker 1: do So Williams. They named his middle name is after
- 1:06Speaker 1: my grandfather. There was some question whether or not they
- 1:08Speaker 1: were going to keep John Henry when when she first
- 1:10Speaker 1: became pregnant with him, and Henry's father was tad and
- 1:14Speaker 1: not moral of those stories. You're kind of a disappointment
- 1:17Speaker 1: at family. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Dunking. All right,
- 1:25Speaker 1: welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium,
- 1:29Speaker 1: and it's a whole new week, whole new week. Last week,
- 1:33Speaker 1: we were like, oh, now, fifty to ten automatic in
- 1:38Speaker 1: the playoffs. We know that for sure. We don't know
- 1:42Speaker 1: when or where or who, but we know we're in
- 1:44Speaker 1: the playoffs. We got a game coming up in Miami
- 1:47Speaker 1: against the Dolphins, so it's you know, I think a
- 1:52Speaker 1: little bit more optimism this week than we had last week.
- 1:54Speaker 1: We did what we were supposed to do against the
- 1:57Speaker 1: terrible team. We slaughtered them. That's what you're supposed to do.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It wasn't a terrible team. It was the scout team.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Wasn't even it was like less than a replacement for
- 2:09Speaker 1: the terrible team. Uh yeah, And I still think I
- 2:12Speaker 1: still want to see this Miami game. I feel like,
- 2:15Speaker 1: you know, unless the Patriots going like a significant playoff run,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I think people are gonna look at this Miami game
- 2:19Speaker 1: and say, you know, either all right, Well, they lost
- 2:22Speaker 1: to him closely matched game kind of first week of
- 2:25Speaker 1: the season. You saw the bad Patriots that would kind
- 2:28Speaker 1: of pop up five six times this season, and you know,
- 2:31Speaker 1: go down to Miami. It's a tough team. I'm sure
- 2:32Speaker 1: they're gonna play hard for Brian Flores. You know, what
- 2:35Speaker 1: does it really mean for them? Not much? But I
- 2:37Speaker 1: think they're gonna they're gonna give give the Patriots a
- 2:40Speaker 1: you know, a tough time, I think, And I just
- 2:42Speaker 1: still think there's stuff that they need to prove. And
- 2:44Speaker 1: I think they win a big game on the road
- 2:45Speaker 1: in the division, you might have to then go the
- 2:47Speaker 1: next week on the road in the division again to
- 2:48Speaker 1: Buffalo and do the same kind of thing. So I
- 2:50Speaker 1: don't know, I still put some value in this game,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and I think that they still have to play some
- 2:54Speaker 1: good football. Pet Johnson played in the league for ten years,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and um, I mean he was talking about it today
- 3:00Speaker 1: like what happens at the end of the season for
- 3:02Speaker 1: teams that don't really have much to play with, And
- 3:04Speaker 1: he says, if you're out there, you got to buckle
- 3:06Speaker 1: up or else you're gonna get killed, you know physically. Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 1: So you got you know, if you're out there, you're
- 3:11Speaker 1: playing hard, especially for Flores. I mean, I imagine, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: if if they still want to, you know, keep this
- 3:17Speaker 1: regime in there. I mean, it's you know, not a
- 3:20Speaker 1: great not a great season for them. I just I
- 3:22Speaker 1: think they're going to come out and throw what they
- 3:24Speaker 1: got at the Patriots and not say it all the time.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I don't expect professional players to go out and can
- 3:30Speaker 1: just lay down, right, that won't happen. Where you'll see
- 3:34Speaker 1: it is where you start. Last week, the twenty seven
- 3:37Speaker 1: guys didn't want to play like That's why you'll see
- 3:40Speaker 1: it except for the guy that hit Born. No, the
- 3:44Speaker 1: guys that are the guys that are I agree with
- 3:46Speaker 1: Ted Johnson. Yeah, I think if you if you line
- 3:49Speaker 1: up in an NFL game and you don't want to
- 3:50Speaker 1: be out there, that's dangerous for yourself. Yeah. Um, I
- 3:53Speaker 1: don't expect to see many signs of that. I would
- 3:57Speaker 1: wonder how many guys are going to play? That's what
- 4:02Speaker 1: I would wonder, right, you know, anybody that's questionable, do
- 4:05Speaker 1: you play? Are you licking the COVID poll before the
- 4:07Speaker 1: last Let's see how many guys tests, like, say, on Thursday,
- 4:10Speaker 1: So you're outside that five day window and you can
- 4:12Speaker 1: still get paid. Yeah, like that's what happened with Jacksonville
- 4:16Speaker 1: last week. Guys would dropping like flies. Yeah, I mean,
- 4:18Speaker 1: do you think we'll see a lot of that around
- 4:20Speaker 1: the league of the teams that have been eliminated this year?
- 4:22Speaker 1: I mean, we just saw twelve with Philadelphia and they're in.
- 4:26Speaker 1: They're guaranteed. Yeah, let's see on Thursday, I guess. Yeah. So, um,
- 4:30Speaker 1: we can talk about the game. I mean, you know,
- 4:33Speaker 1: if you listen to the post game show, it was
- 4:36Speaker 1: tough to come up with the bad list. I mean,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you you won fifty to ten, and I mean there
- 4:40Speaker 1: were some you know, special teams, foods and that's points,
- 4:45Speaker 1: you know, a couple other things, a fourth blocked kick
- 4:48Speaker 1: now yeah, three punts and an extra point. Yeah, so
- 4:52Speaker 1: you know, I wouldn't buy any green band. My expectation
- 4:57Speaker 1: for this team was pure dominance from beginning to end,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and that's what we saw. And so okay, yea, all right,
- 5:02Speaker 1: so let's move on now, Yeah, let's absolutely yeah. Yeah.
- 5:05Speaker 1: My question this week is not really about the Patriots.
- 5:08Speaker 1: It's about the Dolphins. What kind of effort are they
- 5:10Speaker 1: going to put it forward? Right? How many guys are
- 5:12Speaker 1: going to back out for them. And I've heard people
- 5:14Speaker 1: talking about the Patriots like, well, they're in, so that
- 5:16Speaker 1: you know they the Patriots are going to play this game. Yeah.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I had to talk, you know, with a member of
- 5:22Speaker 1: the organization prior to the game who speculated that if
- 5:26Speaker 1: they want and got in, that they might use that
- 5:29Speaker 1: as a quasi by week And I was like, why
- 5:31Speaker 1: would you do that, especially when you have a chance
- 5:33Speaker 1: at albeit a slim one, at the number one seed.
- 5:36Speaker 1: We are all Jets fans. Yes, you have a chance
- 5:39Speaker 1: for a lot of different seeds. You could be any
- 5:41Speaker 1: seed except for four. But more importantly to me than
- 5:46Speaker 1: seating is playing. Like when did this Patriots team become
- 5:51Speaker 1: like the like the twenty sixteen team. I could say,
- 5:55Speaker 1: play this week. We won't play that, Like, I don't
- 5:58Speaker 1: think that they can do that. No, Now that that's
- 6:01Speaker 1: kind of the heart of my initial point of just
- 6:03Speaker 1: they need this game. They need to start stringing it together.
- 6:05Speaker 1: They need to beat another pretty good team that knows
- 6:07Speaker 1: them pretty well. I know they're not going to the playoffs,
- 6:09Speaker 1: but I still think they gotta keep it rolling. Even
- 6:11Speaker 1: if you treat this game like a practice game where
- 6:13Speaker 1: you're working on certain things, you don't care. You still
- 6:16Speaker 1: have to play hard. Yeah, you know, like, Okay, we're
- 6:19Speaker 1: gonna work on Matt Jones throwing to the tight ends.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Don't worry about whether we but we we got to
- 6:25Speaker 1: get that work in. You're gonna be out there competing.
- 6:27Speaker 1: You're gonna be playing hard. Now, I doubt they're gonna
- 6:30Speaker 1: do that. I'm just saying that even if you did that,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you're doing it at one hundred, you know. Yeah. I
- 6:36Speaker 1: just I think what's troubling and then just kind of
- 6:38Speaker 1: annoying from this game is like it just looks so
- 6:41Speaker 1: good against it. Like last week, it looks so good.
- 6:43Speaker 1: They were good at everything. It was all clicking, I know,
- 6:48Speaker 1: And and then you know, can we at least get
- 6:50Speaker 1: like fifty percent of that the week before against the Bills,
- 6:52Speaker 1: like because it have to be all or nothing with
- 6:54Speaker 1: these guys. That's that's what scares me, is that I
- 6:57Speaker 1: think you gotta keep it rolling. I just don't see
- 6:59Speaker 1: them taking a week off and kind of losing their
- 7:01Speaker 1: edge a little bit and then all, hey, guys, now
- 7:02Speaker 1: we're going to Buffalo. We got to turn it back on.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Because what I don't know is how much different the
- 7:07Speaker 1: Patriots played on Sunday from the previous Sunday. I don't
- 7:10Speaker 1: know the answer to that, you know what I mean, Like,
- 7:13Speaker 1: I don't know how much of it had to do
- 7:14Speaker 1: with the other team not being able to stop the
- 7:16Speaker 1: things that they were doing or move the ball at
- 7:19Speaker 1: whatever the case may be. Yeah, you know, so that,
- 7:21Speaker 1: like I want to see more. The more evidency that
- 7:24Speaker 1: you can get to watch the team play, the better. Ye.
- 7:26Speaker 1: We don't know enough about this team, even though we're
- 7:28Speaker 1: at the end of the year. Yeah. A lot of
- 7:31Speaker 1: people blying on the on the on the internet's uh
- 7:37Speaker 1: hashtag rookie Wall for Mac based on what the on
- 7:43Speaker 1: the game that he had. So he's back, Yeah, he's back,
- 7:46Speaker 1: all right, No, he had, I mean statistically he didn't.
- 7:51Speaker 1: He didn't have a lot of two touchdown passes. He
- 7:54Speaker 1: had a rating he had three. Yeah, it should have
- 7:57Speaker 1: had four, right, and should have had four right if
- 7:59Speaker 1: they want to will they tried for six? You know?
- 8:01Speaker 1: And uh he had a rating of like one twenty um.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You know. So we had a good game. Yeah again, Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 1: against a time that didn't want to be there offensively.
- 8:15Speaker 1: What did you like on on Sunday. Well, I mean
- 8:20Speaker 1: they executed, but like what, so what did you like
- 8:23Speaker 1: the most? Is there anything that stood out to you? Well, Chrison,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I mean yeah, like ramondre Stevenson. Well, no, I mean
- 8:30Speaker 1: he was good too, but I mean I mean he
- 8:32Speaker 1: hadn't like really haven't seen much from him, like since
- 8:35Speaker 1: he since he had to miss that game, and he
- 8:38Speaker 1: came back and he was the memory. He was the
- 8:40Speaker 1: loan back in the Buffalo Buffalo no Indie Indie. Yeah,
- 8:48Speaker 1: they all got hurt in Buffalo. He came back and
- 8:51Speaker 1: he was the long guy. He was long guy against Indie.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It didn't do much. Then he was COVID, so I
- 8:59Speaker 1: I wanted to that That to me is like more
- 9:02Speaker 1: evidence of like not hitting a rookie wall than anything
- 9:04Speaker 1: that Mac did. Well. You wonder though, in the indie
- 9:07Speaker 1: game if the score dictated him not doing much because
- 9:09Speaker 1: they got behind and they had to start throwing and
- 9:11Speaker 1: you know, but they shut him down though. Yeah, they
- 9:14Speaker 1: got behind because he couldn't run, Yeah, and Matt couldn't throw.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But I still think that's the one element of this
- 9:19Speaker 1: Patriots team that will travel. And I feel fairly confident
- 9:23Speaker 1: in that you got those two guys, and you can
- 9:25Speaker 1: you can go anywhere. And that's why I like, do
- 9:28Speaker 1: you have those two guys? I don't know. We'll see, Yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 1: we'll see what Damian Harris, I mean, it sounds like
- 9:33Speaker 1: things are you know, it's one of those lingering kind
- 9:35Speaker 1: of hamstrings. Hopefully you can get it, get it right,
- 9:38Speaker 1: but yeah, I gotta get this started with. Yeah, lingering
- 9:41Speaker 1: hamstrings tend to linger take a while, right, I mean that.
- 9:45Speaker 1: But he wasn't great, you know, right day before he
- 9:48Speaker 1: had to leave. So Fred's right, like, I don't know
- 9:51Speaker 1: if you have them both. But that's why I really
- 9:52Speaker 1: liked what I saw from Stevenson because Mike's point, that's
- 9:56Speaker 1: what they need, Like they're not gonna do this one dimensionally. Yeah,
- 10:00Speaker 1: they need to have a running game in order to
- 10:03Speaker 1: have a pass. And I think the running game works
- 10:05Speaker 1: best when it's not one guy doing it the whole game.
- 10:09Speaker 1: You know, I think they work best in tandem, those
- 10:12Speaker 1: two in particular, you know, because they're kind of similar.
- 10:14Speaker 1: They're strong, complimentary, very complimentary thing. It's almost like that
- 10:18Speaker 1: you can see kind of almost how it affects defenses.
- 10:20Speaker 1: They're used to kind of carre us and then all
- 10:22Speaker 1: of a sudden, it's Romandre who kind of has a
- 10:24Speaker 1: little bit more. Yeah. I think they both had their
- 10:25Speaker 1: own skill sets. So and but you know, historically I've
- 10:32Speaker 1: seen like when guys have a hamstring and they come
- 10:34Speaker 1: back within like two or three weeks, they tend to
- 10:37Speaker 1: keep aggravating it until they get to the offseason and
- 10:40Speaker 1: they get time to or you know, they get put
- 10:42Speaker 1: on IR and they have the time to let it
- 10:44Speaker 1: actually heal. I have a feeling we're gonna be seeing this, however,
- 10:47Speaker 1: many more games they have left. Harris is if he's
- 10:50Speaker 1: able to go, it's gonna be kind of touch and go. Yeah.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I just think about those injuries. I'm not a trainer,
- 10:56Speaker 1: but from what I understand, there's really nothing you can
- 10:58Speaker 1: do except rest. Exactly. Well, that's why Mike's point might
- 11:02Speaker 1: be accurate with Harris. He might be one of the
- 11:04Speaker 1: guys that you say, well, is it worth it to
- 11:07Speaker 1: try to fight for the so important for the off
- 11:11Speaker 1: chance that you know, you get an upset and you
- 11:13Speaker 1: can move up. Is he worth risking? Right? Yeah? Yeah, Well,
- 11:18Speaker 1: I just think that, you know, like we said, the
- 11:19Speaker 1: running game is important, and I think you know, do
- 11:21Speaker 1: the mail back today, a lot of people writing in,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know, still can we if John u steps up
- 11:26Speaker 1: or if nikkil Harry were to come back, could we
- 11:29Speaker 1: keep up with Kansas City? Uh? You know, in terms
- 11:31Speaker 1: of scoring, and I say, I don't think people are
- 11:34Speaker 1: suddenly thinking that this Patriots team is going to find
- 11:36Speaker 1: a way to go toe to toe, back and forth.
- 11:39Speaker 1: We score, you score, we score like. They're not going
- 11:42Speaker 1: to find that, like they for them to win, they
- 11:44Speaker 1: need to run the ball, take the ball away, play action,
- 11:48Speaker 1: stay on time, finish in the red zone, the simple
- 11:50Speaker 1: stuff like that. I just I don't. I think we
- 11:52Speaker 1: know who this Patriots team is, and they that running game,
- 11:56Speaker 1: as Paul said it, with Harris and Stevenson together, that's
- 11:59Speaker 1: the whole touchdowns. To me, that was I mean, that's
- 12:02Speaker 1: what they need. I think that's how they that's how
- 12:04Speaker 1: they want to play. I think they need to get
- 12:07Speaker 1: the lead and they need to to play in that style. Now,
- 12:10Speaker 1: maybe in the future it won't be like that, but
- 12:13Speaker 1: right now, if it doesn't work that, I mean, listen,
- 12:16Speaker 1: anything can happen in a one game situation, but I
- 12:19Speaker 1: think we can all agree that's not the way the
- 12:21Speaker 1: Patriots want to operate. Like they have to throw it
- 12:23Speaker 1: all over the place and right and match score for
- 12:25Speaker 1: support and that's the thing. And from Is there anything
- 12:28Speaker 1: like a positive thing that we haven't seen yet that
- 12:32Speaker 1: could emerge in the playoffs. I don't think there is.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I think at this point are Yeah, I think we've
- 12:38Speaker 1: seen everything. We've seen the best they can do, we've
- 12:40Speaker 1: seen the worst they can do and everything in between.
- 12:43Speaker 1: And I don't know if they can go to the
- 12:45Speaker 1: next level. Offensively, Yeah, I'm not sure they can. You know,
- 12:48Speaker 1: you're not going to see Super Bowl fifty one or
- 12:50Speaker 1: fifty two, right, you know, where the defense is kind
- 12:53Speaker 1: of out to lunch and the offense just we just
- 12:55Speaker 1: need to go. I don't think. I don't think they
- 12:57Speaker 1: have that year. They've had chances this year, and it's
- 13:00Speaker 1: it's a complimentary I guess the good team they're gonna
- 13:02Speaker 1: have to grind it out. Well, yeah, that's mine, and
- 13:04Speaker 1: they can. My concern is that unless the other team,
- 13:08Speaker 1: if they're if the other teams are better team, and
- 13:10Speaker 1: chances are that's who they're gonna face. Is a good team,
- 13:13Speaker 1: even a better team, the other team has to have
- 13:16Speaker 1: mistakes in order for this team to beat them, Like
- 13:20Speaker 1: if both teams play to their best, I think that.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I think the Patriots aren in rough shape. Yeah, well,
- 13:27Speaker 1: based on what we've seen this year, they have to
- 13:28Speaker 1: rely on the other team screwing up or having a
- 13:31Speaker 1: bad game in order for them to get a victory
- 13:33Speaker 1: or forcing them to screw up. Well, yeah, I mean
- 13:36Speaker 1: that now we're talking defense. Well, you know, you're also
- 13:39Speaker 1: talking semantics. Because we've talked about this a million times.
- 13:42Speaker 1: It's hard to say that both teams played to the
- 13:44Speaker 1: best of their abilities, yeah, because somebody has to lose,
- 13:48Speaker 1: right right, Yeah, yeah, But I think with the Patriots,
- 13:50Speaker 1: it's going back to that Buffalo game. Was it was
- 13:53Speaker 1: critical mistakes. There weren't a lot of mistakes. There weren't
- 13:55Speaker 1: a lot of penalties. They were gonna be four penalies,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but you know, inside the red zone, like you know,
- 13:58Speaker 1: but really just critical kind of moments, and that's that's
- 14:01Speaker 1: what it will be. I don't think they played a
- 14:02Speaker 1: terrible game. I think you're right. But I think most people,
- 14:06Speaker 1: if you ask, they'll say the pictures played awful. You know.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I think both teams made critical mistakes at big times.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I mean, the Bills had touchdowns taken off the board. Well,
- 14:14Speaker 1: that's the thing with penalties, I mean, like stupid, stupid stuff. Again,
- 14:17Speaker 1: we could be talking semantics again, but when you're a
- 14:20Speaker 1: team that averages around twenty points a game or something,
- 14:23Speaker 1: every mistake is critical. You don't have the cushion. And
- 14:27Speaker 1: I think you're right to say it like that because
- 14:30Speaker 1: that's where you know, the Patriots are probably going to
- 14:32Speaker 1: be somewhere between in a regular game seventeen and twenty four,
- 14:36Speaker 1: somewhere in that area. Now, they average probably higher end
- 14:39Speaker 1: because of thee because because of the Jets, and we're
- 14:42Speaker 1: talking about team I'm talking about good teams. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 1: when they play, Yeah, they played the good teams. Do
- 14:46Speaker 1: you look at the you know, the teams that they've
- 14:48Speaker 1: lost to when when they lose, you know, it's generally
- 14:52Speaker 1: a lot lower than than it's like seventeen to twenty
- 14:56Speaker 1: Dallas is the one game that they scored and that
- 14:58Speaker 1: was because Dallas turned the ball over crap ton of times. Yeah, um,
- 15:02Speaker 1: but you know it was what sixteen, sixteen, thirteen, seventeen,
- 15:07Speaker 1: those were the first three losses of the season. Then
- 15:09Speaker 1: you're right, Cowboys, they put up twenty nine loss in
- 15:12Speaker 1: overtime and then seventeen to the Colts, twenty one to
- 15:15Speaker 1: the Bills. So that's where you're gonna be. You're gonna
- 15:17Speaker 1: be between seventeen and twenty four? Can that win? Can
- 15:21Speaker 1: you win with that? Yeah? Yeah? I in the playoffs,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I don't think so well. I think you can, but yeah,
- 15:26Speaker 1: but you're gonna have to rely on help. But you
- 15:29Speaker 1: gotta play defense, that's for sure, especially against these offers
- 15:31Speaker 1: better than they right there? Jamar Chase, who will score
- 15:36Speaker 1: if every ever? There was a play that said to me,
- 15:39Speaker 1: this guy deserves to be Rookie of the year. Is
- 15:41Speaker 1: that touchdown where he made the cut at midfield and
- 15:43Speaker 1: then he outran the into chasing him like you guys
- 15:48Speaker 1: coming name. He had a late search the pass match.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I just on behalf of Jamar Chase. I just want
- 15:58Speaker 1: to introduce everybody to the twenty twenty one season because
- 16:01Speaker 1: that's been happening all year. I mean, it's it is
- 16:03Speaker 1: his second game of over two hundred yards. But I
- 16:06Speaker 1: read in the Globe today it was a signature performance
- 16:09Speaker 1: that and I know Fred's joking, but that's what the
- 16:13Speaker 1: Globe said. The last It's like the guy has set
- 16:19Speaker 1: records like among wide receivers like rookie, he's like third
- 16:26Speaker 1: in the league. Is he start? Did he get a
- 16:28Speaker 1: Pro Bowl starting? Yes? Job? Yes? Now again, how do
- 16:31Speaker 1: you not give him Rookie of the Year. I know,
- 16:33Speaker 1: but see, I'm still I don't care. I'm not going
- 16:36Speaker 1: to change my view on this. Eleven for two sixty
- 16:39Speaker 1: six doesn't change my view. I think that Jamar Chase
- 16:41Speaker 1: has been light years better than any other rookie in
- 16:44Speaker 1: football this year. However, I am not dismissing mac Jones's
- 16:48Speaker 1: chances to win the award because he's a quarterback and
- 16:51Speaker 1: guys tend to like do you think Jonathan Taylor's had
- 16:54Speaker 1: a better year than Aaron Rodgers? I do. I don't
- 16:56Speaker 1: think he has a shot of winning MVP. Yeah, I
- 16:58Speaker 1: just think that the voters tend to gravitate towards the quarterback.
- 17:02Speaker 1: So I still think mac Jones has a chance, don't
- 17:05Speaker 1: you think that? Now, Joe Burrow is a late entry
- 17:07Speaker 1: from MVP. It's a little too late, a little too late.
- 17:11Speaker 1: You were doing it a little bit earlier, maybe, But
- 17:14Speaker 1: I don't know, man, I don't think so. But I
- 17:17Speaker 1: think it's Aaron Rodgers is to lose, and that's generally
- 17:20Speaker 1: the way it goes, it's almost always a quarter. So
- 17:22Speaker 1: Brady's out of the running now. Yeah, I mean he's
- 17:26Speaker 1: probably a top three guy, although that was vintage. That
- 17:29Speaker 1: last drive against the Jets. One of your receivers throws
- 17:34Speaker 1: a fit. You know what. I love him when you're
- 17:35Speaker 1: behind and he just has the focus. What I loved
- 17:38Speaker 1: most about it is like something named Grayson. Yeah, it's
- 17:46Speaker 1: just like something whatever whatever you wanted to like, he's
- 17:50Speaker 1: just like man, he goes time I'm throwing it. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 1: Oh he's I mean Jeff Jeff apoplectic like me of
- 18:02Speaker 1: two thousand and one when he did that with Freddy Coleman.
- 18:05Speaker 1: They had to know, you know, like the biggest player
- 18:08Speaker 1: of the game is fred Coleman. It just from the
- 18:10Speaker 1: start of his career to the end of his great
- 18:12Speaker 1: and I don't even know that this is the end
- 18:13Speaker 1: of his career. Who knows it's the middle of his career.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Like he it just doesn't matter. He you know, he squawks.
- 18:19Speaker 1: He's as high maintenance as anybody that I've I've seen. Like,
- 18:22Speaker 1: believe me, Brady annoyed me just like you annoyed you
- 18:25Speaker 1: and you when you and everybody else. Okay, but he
- 18:29Speaker 1: it just doesn't matter. Austin Colley in the Champion. I'll
- 18:32Speaker 1: figure it out. I'll find a way. And I'm not
- 18:34Speaker 1: gonna win everyone, because no one wins everyone, but I'm
- 18:36Speaker 1: gonna find a way. And that's what he did the
- 18:38Speaker 1: other day with some guy that I never even heard of.
- 18:41Speaker 1: It's crazy. Yeah, they'll be a tough out. Yeah. So, uh, lots,
- 18:46Speaker 1: you know, lots of good stuff over the week in
- 18:48Speaker 1: some great games. I mean the Cincinnati Bengal uh lived
- 18:52Speaker 1: up to it. You know, Burrows just on fire. I
- 18:57Speaker 1: thought they that Zach Taylor's you know, completely screwed himself.
- 19:02Speaker 1: That's why I want Cincinnati with the you know, the
- 19:04Speaker 1: whole sequence with trying to run the clock down by
- 19:06Speaker 1: going forward on fourth down and they got the penalties
- 19:08Speaker 1: and then when Joe Burrow limps to the sideline, I'm thinking, great,
- 19:12Speaker 1: you're gonna win this game and you're gonna lose your
- 19:14Speaker 1: best player for the playoffs. You'll find out the first
- 19:16Speaker 1: day he actually tore his acls. He seemed like he
- 19:19Speaker 1: was fined in. The post came out and that's when
- 19:21Speaker 1: the Bills will jump to the Bengals. The Bengals will lose.
- 19:24Speaker 1: The Bills would jump him five four game Patriots will
- 19:27Speaker 1: be at the Bengal. The Raiders beat the Colts with
- 19:29Speaker 1: Brandon Allen playing quarterback with the last second field goal.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I love seeing that. Looks like the Colts are gonna
- 19:36Speaker 1: get in. They have to win. They gotta win. They
- 19:38Speaker 1: they have to win. But they're playing Jackson. Yeah, yeah, right,
- 19:42Speaker 1: that's true. And now the only way they could lose
- 19:45Speaker 1: is if they lose and got their playoff scenarios right here.
- 19:49Speaker 1: You want to know, and the Raiders and the Chargers,
- 19:53Speaker 1: Oh well, one of them will win and be ahead
- 19:55Speaker 1: of them, right, and the loser, if the loser is
- 19:58Speaker 1: the Raiders, the Raiders will be ahead of them, and
- 20:00Speaker 1: and the winner of the Steelers game can get in.
- 20:02Speaker 1: The Steelers are still was Ravens are both still in it,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and in the Ravens beat the So if the Colts lose,
- 20:10Speaker 1: they're almost certainly going to be out. I think there's
- 20:12Speaker 1: one scenario that there's no way they're gonna lose. They should,
- 20:17Speaker 1: but you never I mean, if the Jaggars were like
- 20:18Speaker 1: that this week, imagine what they're gonna be like next Yeah, Well,
- 20:21Speaker 1: they have two scenarios where if they lose. Yeah, I
- 20:24Speaker 1: could get in, but it's it's cool convoluted. That's why
- 20:27Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't get into it. But complicated proposal.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I really didn't understand it. Um there is um. I
- 20:34Speaker 1: wouldn't mind facing either the Colts or the Bills again.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Just let's let's do this again. Let's this is a
- 20:40Speaker 1: chance for a do over. Yeah, I hear what you're saone,
- 20:43Speaker 1: but I think Cincinnati would be a more exciting game. Yeah,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I just I want to take the team that doesn't
- 20:51Speaker 1: I am, I am, I I just I want the
- 20:53Speaker 1: team that doesn't have any experience. I can. I get
- 20:55Speaker 1: that point. But I also I just I think I
- 20:57Speaker 1: fear teams that have great running back and they got
- 21:00Speaker 1: three threats at least that would stretch the Patriots. I mean,
- 21:03Speaker 1: just the way Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase are playing
- 21:05Speaker 1: right now. I mean, mixing is better than singletary, but
- 21:07Speaker 1: otherwise I think it's comparable. I just find three three
- 21:09Speaker 1: games against the same opponent in one year boring. Yeah,
- 21:14Speaker 1: that's the other thing. I don't you know, I don't
- 21:16Speaker 1: want to know. In Division games, the one I'm rooting
- 21:18Speaker 1: for the least is Buffalo. Yeah, because I just don't
- 21:20Speaker 1: want to see it. I want to see Cincinnati just
- 21:22Speaker 1: because like they seem like they were the exciting team, Like,
- 21:25Speaker 1: you want to play them. You want to play the best,
- 21:27Speaker 1: you want to be the best. You gotta beat the best.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Damn it. Whatever happened, I could even get myself wrapped
- 21:32Speaker 1: around the Colts. Fread for your theory. It's like, you know,
- 21:34Speaker 1: we could tell Chris Ballert that the rivalries back on,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you know if we if we win, you know, we
- 21:40Speaker 1: can be you know snark, right, you know who better
- 21:43Speaker 1: than than me? Right, take to the snark road. Yeah,
- 21:47Speaker 1: but that'd be a while, right the Colts. No, I'm
- 21:49Speaker 1: just saying if you had to play them, yeah, yeah,
- 21:52Speaker 1: it could be in the first round and then Bills
- 21:54Speaker 1: loosen the Jets Patriots go up there over the weekend. Obviously,
- 22:00Speaker 1: the A B Thing six game was mind blowing. What
- 22:03Speaker 1: went on there. I don't know if we want to
- 22:05Speaker 1: waste too much time there, but I don't know. It
- 22:07Speaker 1: was kind of like, hmmm, you know, major was Joe Judge,
- 22:12Speaker 1: you know his his theatrics. Oh, I didn't see Judge.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I think his performance on the field was far worse
- 22:18Speaker 1: than his performance in the press conference. What did he do?
- 22:20Speaker 1: I didn't see. Did you see like the kickoff that
- 22:23Speaker 1: they didn't field? I didn't see that. So you know,
- 22:26Speaker 1: like this when they want to touch back set, the
- 22:28Speaker 1: ball landed the three yards, never went in the end zone.
- 22:33Speaker 1: So the guy, I think it was Farrell Cooper, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 1: he puts his arms out like and then again, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 1: I'll give him some credit at least he looked back
- 22:40Speaker 1: to make sure and that it didn't go in. He's
- 22:41Speaker 1: got to scramble back. He picks it up and ended
- 22:43Speaker 1: up getting tackled inside the five like ten seconds later
- 22:46Speaker 1: they got a safety. Um, just this is a special team,
- 22:49Speaker 1: special teams coach. Like, to me, that's the kind of
- 22:53Speaker 1: stuff that's way more of an indictment on him than
- 22:56Speaker 1: saying stupid stuff in a postgame. But I don't know
- 22:58Speaker 1: what the question was, but he had this really defensive answer,
- 23:01Speaker 1: long defensive answer about you know, the the want to
- 23:04Speaker 1: on his team and it's a lot of okay, we're
- 23:07Speaker 1: not gonna be okay, okay. And then it was like
- 23:09Speaker 1: saying that you know, I have players all the time
- 23:11Speaker 1: calling me that you know from other teams saying they
- 23:14Speaker 1: wish they were still here, you know, not not nothing
- 23:16Speaker 1: to do with the money, which they were still It
- 23:18Speaker 1: was like, okay, well, let's tampering, you know for one, um,
- 23:22Speaker 1: you know, and then he's not really, well, it is stupid.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You're not supposed to be talking to players in the end. Anyway,
- 23:28Speaker 1: you could talk to players on other teams, you can't
- 23:29Speaker 1: talk to him about signing him. Yeah. Well anyway, so
- 23:33Speaker 1: that was so his bill tampering because he went and
- 23:35Speaker 1: ran across the field to Josh Allen after the game
- 23:37Speaker 1: the other day. I know that I don't know if
- 23:39Speaker 1: he's fielding calls, but anyway, that's silly. But it was
- 23:42Speaker 1: all this, like the stuff that he was saying that
- 23:44Speaker 1: like really like it was. It was a tone too.
- 23:47Speaker 1: And I didn't know about this either. Matt and Fred
- 23:50Speaker 1: showed it to me yesterday and I went and sought
- 23:53Speaker 1: it out. Like it started off like, I mean, I
- 23:55Speaker 1: don't know if you know anything about their game because
- 23:57Speaker 1: it was one of the games Sunday that didn't mean anything.
- 24:00Speaker 1: They got a viscerated by Chicago. Yeah, um, they were
- 24:03Speaker 1: never competitive in the game. They got blitzed. And he
- 24:06Speaker 1: starts off talking about like you if you listen to him,
- 24:09Speaker 1: you would have thought that either they lost a very
- 24:12Speaker 1: tight game or they won. It was you know, you know,
- 24:16Speaker 1: I thought we ran the ball really well. You know,
- 24:18Speaker 1: our running backs knew they were going to be a
- 24:19Speaker 1: big part of the game plan this week. We had
- 24:22Speaker 1: a situation at quarterback that we knew we weren't gonna
- 24:24Speaker 1: be able to throw the ball. I thought. Se Quan
- 24:26Speaker 1: ran like my lion, Like he went on and on
- 24:29Speaker 1: and on about how well they ran the ball when
- 24:31Speaker 1: a game that they lost Bay like, I don't know,
- 24:33Speaker 1: thirty points. Yeah. But the other thing he went on
- 24:35Speaker 1: this jag about he basically called other coaches cowards. Oh yeah,
- 24:40Speaker 1: And he said, you know you're not gonna hear me
- 24:42Speaker 1: coming up here and throwing my players under the bus
- 24:44Speaker 1: like some other coaches do. Cowards. It's like what he goes.
- 24:48Speaker 1: You know, he's talking about some of the things that
- 24:50Speaker 1: he goes. That's why, you know, when when I have
- 24:51Speaker 1: a problem with you know, the way that you know
- 24:54Speaker 1: my players are playing, or something that they're doing wrong,
- 24:57Speaker 1: you know, I address it privately. I don't come out
- 24:59Speaker 1: here and in RiPP them and for all you guys
- 25:01Speaker 1: and throw him under the bus the way some other
- 25:03Speaker 1: coaches do, uh, you know, cowards, And like we close
- 25:08Speaker 1: the door and I could tell him anything I want
- 25:10Speaker 1: to their face, because we know, you know, if if
- 25:12Speaker 1: you want to anything that goes to them goes through me.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And it's it's like that I'm forty remember that guy.
- 25:18Speaker 1: It was almost like that, I'm a man, I'm for
- 25:21Speaker 1: And then he starts talking about you know, he's talking
- 25:24Speaker 1: about you know, like they they threw for something like
- 25:27Speaker 1: ten yards in the game. Okay, Mike glenn literally Glennon,
- 25:32Speaker 1: he's out like he I think he broke his wrist
- 25:34Speaker 1: or something. I don't say, shaving. But so they threw
- 25:39Speaker 1: for let's just call it for less than twenty five
- 25:41Speaker 1: yards they threw for in the game. So one of
- 25:43Speaker 1: their I think it was that Jordan Renan guy that
- 25:46Speaker 1: we've seen from time to time ESPN. I think, um,
- 25:50Speaker 1: he asked a question, you know, like after this glowing
- 25:52Speaker 1: tribute of the Running Game. You know, he was like, yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 1: but but Joe, like you know, he couldn't throw Yeah, Jordan,
- 26:00Speaker 1: you're gonna get into that, like, you know, we couldn't
- 26:02Speaker 1: throw the ball. And it was just like like what
- 26:06Speaker 1: is this all about? It was? It was bizarre, really,
- 26:10Speaker 1: It was hard over dead man walking. It's a guy that,
- 26:13Speaker 1: to me, I think knows that he's out. And if
- 26:16Speaker 1: they hold on to that guy after that effort, they're
- 26:19Speaker 1: they're out of their minds. It's one thing to be
- 26:22Speaker 1: a bad team. You can be like and I've been
- 26:24Speaker 1: saying this for the most of the last half of
- 26:26Speaker 1: the year. The Detroit Lions have no talent whatsoever. The
- 26:30Speaker 1: New York Jets have no talent whatsoever. Those two teams
- 26:33Speaker 1: are both playing hard like they're losing, but they're competing.
- 26:37Speaker 1: The Giants lost a very middling quarterback in Daniel Jones,
- 26:42Speaker 1: and this season completely collapsed afterward, like no no competitive
- 26:48Speaker 1: bone in their body, like losing games by thirty points
- 26:52Speaker 1: to Chicago, right, or what about the Lions? You know,
- 26:55Speaker 1: That's what I said, Lisa like Dan Cambell. He's a
- 26:58Speaker 1: hard over. I like him. The Lions and the Jets
- 27:01Speaker 1: are playing like yeah, which I absolutely for the Texans
- 27:05Speaker 1: in there too, for they don't have any talents, so
- 27:07Speaker 1: they're not winning in some games, you know, like even
- 27:09Speaker 1: this last game for the Texans, and I think they
- 27:11Speaker 1: ended up losing twenty three to seven, but they made
- 27:13Speaker 1: the Niners work for it. Yeah, and I know that
- 27:16Speaker 1: Garoppolo was out and that's you know, probably would have
- 27:19Speaker 1: been a different story. But to what like Detroit goes
- 27:23Speaker 1: out with two wins, they go out to Seattle in
- 27:26Speaker 1: a game they don't want to play, right, found a
- 27:29Speaker 1: way to score thirty points. I mean they gave up fifty,
- 27:31Speaker 1: but they I mean they competed right. They didn't have
- 27:35Speaker 1: any chance to win the game. They would down thirty
- 27:36Speaker 1: eight to seven. They made it thirty eight to twenty two,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and they had an on sidekick that you know, the
- 27:42Speaker 1: Seahawks ended up recovering. They kept playing, they kept plugging along.
- 27:46Speaker 1: And I think it's been the same with the Jets
- 27:47Speaker 1: since Zach Wilson came back for the Jets. They haven't won.
- 27:52Speaker 1: They haven't won many, you know, and that might have
- 27:54Speaker 1: been the best outcome they could possibly have asked for. Sunday,
- 27:57Speaker 1: they took the Bucks to the last play of the
- 27:59Speaker 1: game but lost, so they didn't hurt their draft status nothing.
- 28:04Speaker 1: So it's not like you're you know what I mean,
- 28:05Speaker 1: And like Zach Wilson, he's still not it is Zach Wilson.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Zaza za Zach No. But I mean, I don't know
- 28:13Speaker 1: why I keep saying Zach Wilson, and for some reason,
- 28:15Speaker 1: it doesn't like I'm thinking of somebody else. I think
- 28:20Speaker 1: he only has I think he's played like six games
- 28:22Speaker 1: since he's come back something like that. And he and
- 28:24Speaker 1: after throwing nine picks in his first like five games,
- 28:27Speaker 1: he's come back and only thrown two in the next
- 28:29Speaker 1: seven or something like that. So, like, you know how
- 28:32Speaker 1: we talk about mac like before the season, I just
- 28:35Speaker 1: want to see a goal like this. Well, if you're
- 28:37Speaker 1: a if you're a Jets fan, you've seen some signs
- 28:39Speaker 1: from him that it's going up. You know. I don't
- 28:42Speaker 1: know if he's ready. I don't know if he'll ever
- 28:43Speaker 1: be ready. I don't know if he'll ever be the guy.
- 28:45Speaker 1: I don't know if he's as talented as people say,
- 28:47Speaker 1: you know, like Trevor Lawrence, I saw talent on Sunday.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I can see didn't they bring out didn't they decide
- 28:52Speaker 1: to bring in Zach Wilson's quarterback coach from college or
- 28:55Speaker 1: something like that. Did they do something mid season? I
- 28:57Speaker 1: don't know, But if if they did, it worked, because
- 28:59Speaker 1: he's been better. No, he's not been great, but he's
- 29:02Speaker 1: been better Cyril, Cyril Grayson. See now Tyler Johnson, I've heard, right, Yeah,
- 29:07Speaker 1: Like if it was Tyler Johnson, I'd be like, yeah,
- 29:09Speaker 1: that's a draft pick they had lad Remember he Scotty.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Even if Scotty people don't know what you're talking about,
- 29:13Speaker 1: you have to you know, this is a free flowing
- 29:18Speaker 1: NFL show. We've already got grown board of the of
- 29:22Speaker 1: the Jags game, so we're just we're riffing fair fair.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I'm going to keep the free flow going because I
- 29:27Speaker 1: realized another level to this Raiders Chargers game is that
- 29:30Speaker 1: I believe the Patriots will play whoever wins next year,
- 29:33Speaker 1: because I think AFC West is the away game, and
- 29:38Speaker 1: so the Patriots will play the corresponding team that would win.
- 29:42Speaker 1: And so if the Patriots are in second place, then
- 29:44Speaker 1: well you'd either go to Vegas or lay Oh, I
- 29:48Speaker 1: see where you're going there. Yeah, that's going. The other
- 29:52Speaker 1: one right now too, is the mortgage. Yeah at Cardinals.
- 29:59Speaker 1: I think would be the seventeenth game. I believe if
- 30:03Speaker 1: the Rams stay on top. Yeah, yeah, we're looking at
- 30:07Speaker 1: the Cardinals win, Rams lose, they switch and the and
- 30:10Speaker 1: the Rams do have a tough game, right, It could
- 30:12Speaker 1: be a double LA trip again, it could be, it
- 30:14Speaker 1: could be interesting. A lot of levels, a lot going on.
- 30:18Speaker 1: We got three, a lot of three opponents, but it
- 30:22Speaker 1: is um. I did find it interesting. In my extensive research,
- 30:27Speaker 1: I come to a lot of research. The Patriots can't
- 30:29Speaker 1: finish one, two, three, five, six or seven yea everything
- 30:34Speaker 1: the only one they can't finish in his four that's something. Huh. Yeah,
- 30:40Speaker 1: you guys went around when when most of us came
- 30:42Speaker 1: into work. Yes, Freddie and I talked about this at
- 30:44Speaker 1: length yesterday in the office. Obviously, if the Jets lose,
- 30:47Speaker 1: the Patriots win, there's a home game. Patriots get a
- 30:50Speaker 1: home game as a division winner. So that's that's that's
- 30:54Speaker 1: really the only thing on the Bills lose. I mean
- 30:57Speaker 1: the Jets. We are beat the Bills. We are rooting
- 30:59Speaker 1: for the Yes, we're rooting for the Bills to lose,
- 31:02Speaker 1: and then the Patriots win, and then you have the
- 31:05Speaker 1: AFC East and you have a guaranteed home game. So
- 31:09Speaker 1: that that's the big thing. That's the one huge And
- 31:12Speaker 1: because of that, the league has switched both teams to
- 31:15Speaker 1: four twenty five one. Not happy that, Yeah, And what's
- 31:19Speaker 1: this rumbling about Monday Monday night game. Well, there's a
- 31:22Speaker 1: Monday night Wild Cards Peter King. Here's the thing. He doesn't,
- 31:26Speaker 1: but you got a fifty percent chance of a night game.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Are either gonna play Saturday night, Sunday night, or Monday night,
- 31:31Speaker 1: right right? Because there's only two days. There's only two
- 31:34Speaker 1: day games. There's a Saturday day game and a Sunday
- 31:38Speaker 1: day game. Everything else is the evening or night you know,
- 31:41Speaker 1: isn't Sunday. There's a double. There's three games on Sunday.
- 31:44Speaker 1: There's a one of four and oh yeah, what Saturday.
- 31:47Speaker 1: I think they eliminated they eliminated one of them. Oh,
- 31:49Speaker 1: they did eliminated Saturday that day and put it on
- 31:53Speaker 1: Monday night. So it's like that. I think it's like
- 31:55Speaker 1: four twenty five and eight thirty on Saturday. Okay, Sunday
- 31:59Speaker 1: is like regular one game on Saturday, two twenty five
- 32:04Speaker 1: and eight thirty. Yes, okay, the one don't Kill Me
- 32:07Speaker 1: on early game on Saturday got moved to Monday night. Yeah,
- 32:10Speaker 1: they eliminated the matinee on Saturday, so there's no one
- 32:14Speaker 1: o'clock game on Saturday. Wild Card weekend we're talking about. Yeah,
- 32:17Speaker 1: but I thought it was. It was always like three
- 32:19Speaker 1: thirty and six thirty on Saturday. Well, they only did
- 32:21Speaker 1: it one year. Last year. It was the first year
- 32:23Speaker 1: they did it like this, and they did it at
- 32:24Speaker 1: one and four. They did one four one four eight
- 32:27Speaker 1: one four eight Saturday and Sunday. Okay, now they headers.
- 32:30Speaker 1: They eliminated the one on Saturday and put it on Monday.
- 32:34Speaker 1: That makes sense. You've got a doublehead or a tripleheader
- 32:35Speaker 1: set for the team that has to play the next week. Yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 1: and there's a lot of talk about that. You have
- 32:41Speaker 1: a short week if you play on the Saturday, So
- 32:44Speaker 1: if you end up going to Monday, it gives you
- 32:46Speaker 1: more time to prepare and then you'd have a short
- 32:48Speaker 1: week if you win the following week. Yeah. Like Meansas
- 32:53Speaker 1: City plays on Saturday in week eighteen, So my guess
- 32:56Speaker 1: is you could pencil them in for a Saturday game
- 33:00Speaker 1: so they won't be on a short week. If I mean,
- 33:02Speaker 1: if I'm the team's in the wild card, I would
- 33:05Speaker 1: want to play on Saturday because like the team you're
- 33:11Speaker 1: gonna face after that if you win, is gonna be
- 33:13Speaker 1: a tougher team already, So give yourself more time to
- 33:17Speaker 1: heal to prepare to get ready, you know what I mean.
- 33:20Speaker 1: So I would much rather have the Saturday one of
- 33:22Speaker 1: the Saturday games if there's no perfect way to do
- 33:25Speaker 1: it Monday night. I like the two triple headers. I
- 33:27Speaker 1: thought it really worked well last year. I enjoyed that
- 33:29Speaker 1: Saturday and Sunday. But I'm sure that there's studies that
- 33:34Speaker 1: tell them that the Monday night game gets three more
- 33:37Speaker 1: people to watch it than the Saturday at one o'clock game.
- 33:40Speaker 1: So that's what's about, right, Because it's record I mean,
- 33:43Speaker 1: we all know it's record ratings every year, those six eyeballs,
- 33:47Speaker 1: except for the only thing that doesn't get record ratings
- 33:49Speaker 1: every year is the College football Playoff when they played
- 33:52Speaker 1: on New Year's Eve. Yeah, I saw that ratings tank
- 33:55Speaker 1: on Newda's Eve. Yeah, people out it same as like
- 33:58Speaker 1: I think. I think they did it in two and
- 34:00Speaker 1: sixteen the same way, and they tanked them, and they
- 34:03Speaker 1: tanked again this past one. Now it doesn't help it.
- 34:05Speaker 1: You got two blowouts, right, yeah, all right? Eight five
- 34:09Speaker 1: five Pats five hundred is the a ticket hut line.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Eight five five Pats five hundred. Web radio at Patriots
- 34:14Speaker 1: dot com is the email address, so as you can see,
- 34:16Speaker 1: it's pretty much all open here. We can talk about
- 34:19Speaker 1: anything you want. Other teams, Patriots Miami and my station
- 34:23Speaker 1: they call it agenda free, agenda free, yes, all out
- 34:26Speaker 1: of the table to buffet. We call it here Patriots
- 34:29Speaker 1: unfiltered buffet. So let's get to the five apps. We'll
- 34:34Speaker 1: go to Jeff in the UK. First. What's up, Jeff?
- 34:37Speaker 1: All right? Guys were good? Jeff right, just got a
- 34:41Speaker 1: question about kind of the future of the Patriots and
- 34:44Speaker 1: kind of how the Patriots internally see all the development
- 34:48Speaker 1: of these like good second year quarterbacks like many borrow
- 34:51Speaker 1: Herbert and stuff, and kind of how the teams have
- 34:53Speaker 1: aided their development and kind of if they viewed that
- 34:56Speaker 1: as their kind of how they would go about it
- 34:59Speaker 1: or because basically, what I'm worried about is the excuse
- 35:03Speaker 1: the freegis in the defense. They're gonna go quite defensive,
- 35:05Speaker 1: heavy in the draw, and then because of the glect,
- 35:08Speaker 1: some of the needs well you just hit, you just
- 35:11Speaker 1: hit the nail on the head, you know, get them,
- 35:14Speaker 1: get them some weapons, get them some help, whether it's
- 35:16Speaker 1: offensive line or that's what he's asking. I think they will,
- 35:19Speaker 1: but that's how they aided their development in the second year.
- 35:23Speaker 1: You know, well, the Chargers really didn't. The the Bengals
- 35:28Speaker 1: got Chase in the first round. The Chargers drafted a tackle.
- 35:30Speaker 1: So I guess you could say that diff's help them,
- 35:32Speaker 1: but they don't because I think the Chargers are missing weapons.
- 35:35Speaker 1: I think Herbert does it. Really. I think Keenan Allen's terrific. Yep,
- 35:39Speaker 1: that's it. Like I don't think Mike Williams is one
- 35:41Speaker 1: of those kind of receivers, very dependent on Eckler two,
- 35:44Speaker 1: who's banged up a lot. But I would say maybe
- 35:48Speaker 1: James White finding a new James White finding a third
- 35:50Speaker 1: down back. I think that's something that they need. They
- 35:52Speaker 1: need to put that in the pipeline. Get a complimentary
- 35:55Speaker 1: third piece. We'll get into the third or fourth round. Yeah,
- 35:57Speaker 1: And I wouldn't one of those. I wouldn't know for
- 35:59Speaker 1: guys that we like last year that they Michael Carter's Michael,
- 36:02Speaker 1: and I think if there's a chance to upgrade the
- 36:04Speaker 1: offensive line, do it. Yeah. You know, well, I mean
- 36:07Speaker 1: I thought that's on the table for a first round pick.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Absolutely a tackle. Yeah, maybe you know, Shaq Mason do
- 36:13Speaker 1: a lot of money, maybe something to do there. That's
- 36:15Speaker 1: just a point of, you know, guys that they might
- 36:17Speaker 1: reach itigger just to sped around a little more to
- 36:20Speaker 1: the thing, is he like you don't need Jamar Chase.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I mean, he's kind of arguably a generational talent. You're
- 36:25Speaker 1: not going to pick top five. But you know, there's
- 36:27Speaker 1: plenty of receivers in the league that come like third
- 36:29Speaker 1: second round just app six dos. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Ammons
- 36:33Speaker 1: Saint Brown's another one. I wrote about that a little
- 36:36Speaker 1: bit in the notes this week, and you know, it's like, see,
- 36:39Speaker 1: I think it's a third or fourth straight year that
- 36:41Speaker 1: it's a very deep and productive rookie class of receivers.
- 36:45Speaker 1: But the problem there's not a lot of quarterbacks coming
- 36:48Speaker 1: out this year. I guess. So that hurts, Yes, it does.
- 36:51Speaker 1: You're right because the teams that need quarterbacks probably aren't
- 36:54Speaker 1: going to take quarterbacks. They'll take something they'll take, and
- 36:57Speaker 1: that's that's something else is something that you might as well.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Yeah right now, all right, Jeff, Thanks Jeff. Yeah, I
- 37:06Speaker 1: think that's a good point, Freddie about the quarterbacks, because
- 37:08Speaker 1: there are still like five teams that really really need
- 37:11Speaker 1: a quarterback and you might not you might not have
- 37:15Speaker 1: one that you think those teams might not. You know,
- 37:19Speaker 1: maybe I'll take it late in the first round. I'll
- 37:20Speaker 1: take a flyer on a Sam Howell or something like that.
- 37:22Speaker 1: But maybe you don't love him. You know, I don't
- 37:24Speaker 1: know where Kenny Pickett's gonna go. The Alabama guy. Is
- 37:28Speaker 1: he eligible or young? He's too young? He's young. He's
- 37:32Speaker 1: small too. I don't know if he's going to translate
- 37:34Speaker 1: his small but he's good. And how small is he?
- 37:37Speaker 1: He's like barely six foot right, and he looks like, yeah,
- 37:39Speaker 1: he looks like like what's a little bit. I haven't
- 37:44Speaker 1: watched any Alabama games? Is he? Is he anything like
- 37:48Speaker 1: Kyler Murray? Uh? Not that he's just he's not a
- 37:52Speaker 1: huge runner. He's very mobile, but he doesn't he doesn't
- 37:55Speaker 1: run anywhere near as much as Kyle. He's probably like
- 37:57Speaker 1: six feet one nine. Yeah, like just he's just thin.
- 38:02Speaker 1: We'll never know for sure, right unless we can measure
- 38:05Speaker 1: him somewhere. I know, maybe you know what we're gonna
- 38:09Speaker 1: see him if you're gonna be able to do that
- 38:10Speaker 1: at the camp, I measure you. Uh, what's up, Patty?
- 38:15Speaker 1: And what are your measurements? What's up? Guys? Hey? Hey, Patty?
- 38:21Speaker 1: So me being the Homer that I am, um the Celtics,
- 38:25Speaker 1: you know, a proclaimed homer. I think I could give
- 38:27Speaker 1: Fred a run for his money. But I don't know
- 38:30Speaker 1: how you don't give the Rookie of the Year awards
- 38:32Speaker 1: that Jamar Chase this year. I reluctantly agree. Says yes,
- 38:41Speaker 1: But Fred said, I mean, I think that speaks volumes.
- 38:43Speaker 1: It's not like you know someone who's trying to really
- 38:45Speaker 1: be impartial. It's Fred. He makes no bones about lack
- 38:48Speaker 1: of impartiality, right yeah, I mean it's to me, it's
- 38:52Speaker 1: a slam dunk. You know, I'll support the guys in
- 38:55Speaker 1: the Flying Elvis is more than you know, anybody. But
- 38:58Speaker 1: to me, I don't know what you guys think. But
- 39:01Speaker 1: and I know this isn't Bangles unfiltered, but six feet
- 39:05Speaker 1: he kind of reminds me more of Brandy Moss than
- 39:07Speaker 1: any other wide receiver that's come out, says Moss. That
- 39:09Speaker 1: includes like Megatron, and well he's really like the only
- 39:13Speaker 1: one that's sort of built like that, you know, but
- 39:16Speaker 1: he's a he's just that. That kid is just a force.
- 39:18Speaker 1: And regarding who we might play in our playoffs, Um,
- 39:23Speaker 1: I gotta respectfully disagree with you, Paul, I know it
- 39:26Speaker 1: might be a boring matchup to see play the Bills again,
- 39:29Speaker 1: but I feel like the familiarity factor. Um, I mean,
- 39:34Speaker 1: that's that's the thing about playing a team like the Bengals. Like,
- 39:36Speaker 1: I don't think we'll end up playing the Chiefs, but
- 39:39Speaker 1: you don't know the Bengals. I mean, those guys could
- 39:42Speaker 1: come out and run up thirty one straight points on you,
- 39:44Speaker 1: and then I know the Bills can too, But at
- 39:46Speaker 1: least they're a little bit more familiar with their with
- 39:48Speaker 1: them and they're they're more familiar with you. Two. That
- 39:51Speaker 1: works both ways. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, I think true.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I think to me, Cincinnati and Buffalo as a coin flip,
- 39:59Speaker 1: I could make an argument either way. I leaned toward
- 40:02Speaker 1: I'd rather play since he because of the lack of
- 40:05Speaker 1: experience Buffalo. This is the third straight year in the
- 40:07Speaker 1: playoffs and they're at home. I think. I listen, choking
- 40:12Speaker 1: is always on the table for all teams. It's on
- 40:14Speaker 1: the table for the Patriots too. They've never been there.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Do you know these this version? Yeah? Right, So choking
- 40:21Speaker 1: for Josh Allen is on the table. He can he
- 40:23Speaker 1: can definitely self destructing a playoff game. What I saw
- 40:26Speaker 1: was coaching malpractice from Cincinnati on Sunday. That's to me,
- 40:31Speaker 1: that's a fireball offense if you end up losing that game.
- 40:34Speaker 1: That's how strongly I think he bungled that not no
- 40:37Speaker 1: pun in time that final final minute he put his team.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I think he put his team in harm's way for
- 40:44Speaker 1: no reason whatsoever. And I think going into a playoff game,
- 40:48Speaker 1: I like that kind of a loose cannon on the
- 40:50Speaker 1: on the other sideline. Yeah, and historically they've won the
- 40:56Speaker 1: last time even game in nineteen ninety. Wow, really is
- 41:00Speaker 1: that Boomers up the nineteen nine and wow? He was
- 41:04Speaker 1: over at the hall. Yeah. I think he was very
- 41:07Speaker 1: gracious too. I'm magnanimous. Yeah, he really sure what he
- 41:12Speaker 1: was doing there. All right, Patty, thank you, very similar
- 41:18Speaker 1: close to what I have on right now. As a
- 41:19Speaker 1: matter of fact, let's go to Todd in North Carolina. Hey, Todd, Well,
- 41:23Speaker 1: I had a two pronged question dealing with the age
- 41:26Speaker 1: of the team, but the British gentleman was pretty much
- 41:29Speaker 1: covered everything I wanted to cover, So all right, great,
- 41:31Speaker 1: thanks for all right. Yeah, yeah, but my question is
- 41:34Speaker 1: why don't we rest them people like we've got an
- 41:37Speaker 1: old defense. I think it was Paul who said, we
- 41:39Speaker 1: got one of the oldest teams in the league. Let's
- 41:41Speaker 1: rest them people. But you have a chance to win
- 41:44Speaker 1: the division and get a home game. Yeah, I don't
- 41:49Speaker 1: think that it's worth trying for. To be honest with you, Fred,
- 41:52Speaker 1: I just don't. I don't feel that I'd rather rest
- 41:55Speaker 1: than just be ready and go so hard wherever you go,
- 41:57Speaker 1: because realistically, defense, especially our linebackers, need the rest. That's
- 42:04Speaker 1: the way I look at it. You listen, I mean,
- 42:07Speaker 1: you know, you could say, whoever we play, it's a
- 42:09Speaker 1: coin flip, and we're not. We're not. We don't care
- 42:12Speaker 1: about seating or who we play, and being rested is
- 42:15Speaker 1: more important. They might say that, But who do you arrest?
- 42:18Speaker 1: You're saying the linebackers. You know, Judean played like ten
- 42:21Speaker 1: snaps last week. You're gonna send them two weeks in
- 42:23Speaker 1: a row. Ye last week too. Yeah, I wouldn't. I mean,
- 42:27Speaker 1: you gotta rest Mac, you know I would rest, But
- 42:32Speaker 1: I would rest Harris because he's hurt. Yeah, that's it. Yeah,
- 42:35Speaker 1: and anybody else that's I don't get going. Maybe pull
- 42:38Speaker 1: back on Phillips High Tower, those guys that have been
- 42:41Speaker 1: injured and yeah, guys who have been thing up. Yeah,
- 42:45Speaker 1: but I wouldn't write out of the gate well I'm not. Yeah,
- 42:47Speaker 1: I'm not. I get taught todd theory that I I
- 42:51Speaker 1: throwed it out. Yeah, I'm much less concerned about seating
- 42:54Speaker 1: in this game as I am playing well too for
- 42:57Speaker 1: the sake of playing for the importance of playing well.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Like I think that this team against a team that
- 43:03Speaker 1: might resist. Yeah, I'm not sure they will, but I'm
- 43:07Speaker 1: not really as worried about Miami as I am the Patriots.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I think the Patriots need to They don't need to
- 43:12Speaker 1: do what they did last week and just beat up
- 43:14Speaker 1: on someone, but they need, I think, to continue to
- 43:16Speaker 1: play sort of mistake free issue offense, you know, look
- 43:22Speaker 1: cut down on the breakdowns, and I think you want
- 43:25Speaker 1: to stack those kinds of days together. I wouldn't call
- 43:27Speaker 1: them a young team, but I'd call them a new
- 43:29Speaker 1: team and a team that hasn't done it before. And
- 43:31Speaker 1: they haven't been to the playoffs in this capacity, and
- 43:34Speaker 1: they've been up and down, and that's why I think experienced. Yeah,
- 43:39Speaker 1: because I you know, on the surface, I kind of
- 43:41Speaker 1: agree with Todd. If if you were weighing the factors here,
- 43:46Speaker 1: it would be much smaller percentage of being able to
- 43:49Speaker 1: move up then say losing a couple of guys to
- 43:53Speaker 1: to injuries. Yeah, do you know what I mean? Like,
- 43:56Speaker 1: I mean again, upsets always happen, right, Just think of
- 44:00Speaker 1: how bad that team was that we saw Sunday. The
- 44:02Speaker 1: Bills lost to that team, and now they didn't lose
- 44:04Speaker 1: to that team, but they lost to Jacksonville. Yeah, you know,
- 44:07Speaker 1: so they could lose to the Jets. I mean, if
- 44:10Speaker 1: you're telling me, what would the Quants say? That probabilities
- 44:14Speaker 1: are right? And that's why you know, there's no real difference,
- 44:17Speaker 1: like we're splitting hairs of trying to pick who you
- 44:19Speaker 1: want to play. Funny is, like we talked about, like
- 44:22Speaker 1: right now, the Patriots are five and Buffalo is four,
- 44:24Speaker 1: and everybody's sort of extrapolating that the four or five
- 44:27Speaker 1: game next week. The the FPI on ESPN says there's
- 44:33Speaker 1: a forty percent chance that will match up with Cincinnati
- 44:36Speaker 1: and only a thirty two percent chance that will match
- 44:38Speaker 1: up with Buffalo. And I don't really understand how that works,
- 44:41Speaker 1: because I mean, I think that the Titans are overwhelming favorites.
- 44:46Speaker 1: The Chiefs are favorites, the Bengals are favorites, the Bills
- 44:50Speaker 1: are overwhelming favorites, or are the Patriots? The Patriots are favorite?
- 44:55Speaker 1: So you're telling me because like basically all of those
- 44:59Speaker 1: things would have like like that, that lowers the chances
- 45:02Speaker 1: of them all happening because I suppose theoretically the Patriots
- 45:07Speaker 1: could could win, the Bills could win, and the Bengals
- 45:10Speaker 1: could lose, and that makes it the four or five
- 45:14Speaker 1: game Patriots Cincinnati. But is that what they're saying is
- 45:18Speaker 1: the better? Like to me, the most likely outcome is
- 45:22Speaker 1: all of those teams top one through five. Most likely
- 45:25Speaker 1: outcome is all five of those teams win in my opinion, Yeah,
- 45:28Speaker 1: the Titans should beat the Texans, the Chiefs should beat
- 45:31Speaker 1: the Broncos, the Bills should beat the Jets, the Bengals
- 45:34Speaker 1: should beat the Browns, and the Patriots should beat the Dolphins.
- 45:37Speaker 1: The only question about the Bengals now is that they've
- 45:39Speaker 1: wrapped up the North and who knows how banged up
- 45:41Speaker 1: Burrow is. Do they give him arrest? How many guys
- 45:44Speaker 1: do they give arrest on their side? That's the things
- 45:48Speaker 1: you don't know. But an FPI is not factoring in now.
- 45:51Speaker 1: No they're factoring numbers. Yeah, that's what I don't get.
- 45:55Speaker 1: That's why I don't really like when we talk about
- 45:57Speaker 1: the different playoff scenarios. I don't get into the percentages
- 46:01Speaker 1: because I think they're fa cocta. I don't think they
- 46:03Speaker 1: make any sense. Williams and Phil, he's just a funny
- 46:07Speaker 1: funny words as Nick and Nick would say, what's up William?
- 46:13Speaker 1: Thank hey, how are you doing good? Okay? Um, the
- 46:18Speaker 1: question is, uh, okay, y'all talk about we need offensive
- 46:21Speaker 1: blind I guess that's gonna be the first variety in
- 46:23Speaker 1: the draft. But look how far back we are, and
- 46:27Speaker 1: most of the top offensive lines are gonna be gone
- 46:29Speaker 1: between the beginning and maybe the middle. So what do
- 46:33Speaker 1: you do? Well, most of the top everything's gonna be
- 46:36Speaker 1: gone earlier. You can always get a good guard if
- 46:38Speaker 1: you want to. Well, you're not going to take a
- 46:40Speaker 1: guard in the first round. Well they have in the
- 46:42Speaker 1: first round. Yeah, you're not gonna do that. Yeah, But
- 46:45Speaker 1: but yeah, I see what you're saying. So probably you
- 46:48Speaker 1: know there's there's there's always a ton of safeties and
- 46:50Speaker 1: cornerbacks in the draft, so that might be your sweet
- 46:53Speaker 1: spot from where they're picking. I mean, there's a lot
- 46:56Speaker 1: of positions. Yeah, it's not like there's a guarantee. I
- 46:59Speaker 1: think when you get from like twelve thirteen to like
- 47:01Speaker 1: twenty five, I think there's offensive lineman drafted. And that's
- 47:04Speaker 1: what Patriots are going to be drafting, right, twenty to
- 47:06Speaker 1: twenty five, Ye thirty two, maybe two, the thirty maybe
- 47:10Speaker 1: thirty three. I like that because when we win this one,
- 47:13Speaker 1: they'll come up with another scandal, right, and they'll take
- 47:16Speaker 1: away our first round pick. That's right, all right? So
- 47:21Speaker 1: my last question is this, Okay, if you had char
- 47:24Speaker 1: between personal love of Ohio State, Uh, you see, I'm
- 47:28Speaker 1: being realistic. Kids, Drake London from Uh, it's a u
- 47:33Speaker 1: USC if I'm not mistaken. And also I'm Mad Gardner
- 47:36Speaker 1: from Cincinnata the corner of it's your guy, Paul, right,
- 47:39Speaker 1: I don't know much about the USC kid. To be
- 47:42Speaker 1: honest with you, I like a lave, don't love him,
- 47:44Speaker 1: but I do also like the Tracker. I like these
- 47:47Speaker 1: Ohio State receivers have been decent um. I mean, I really,
- 47:51Speaker 1: really really like Terry McLaurin. He's not a guy that
- 47:53Speaker 1: I was in love with coming out, but he's been
- 47:55Speaker 1: a really good player for Washington, like second third round,
- 47:59Speaker 1: those kinds of guy guys. Um, I really take the
- 48:02Speaker 1: guy at Ohio State now, but he's not eligible. Yeah,
- 48:05Speaker 1: you're gonna have to wait till the draft from my
- 48:07Speaker 1: draft picks went off. Yeah, focused on the draft, right,
- 48:12Speaker 1: I haven't got my r ladds. Ye, you won't get
- 48:14Speaker 1: it until the week before. I love how he can't
- 48:17Speaker 1: even like he can't even pretend like and I'm not
- 48:19Speaker 1: gonna tell you I know all the names yet, Fred,
- 48:22Speaker 1: but you can't even pretend to have a conversation about
- 48:24Speaker 1: I can't because I can't. I can't. I'm not watching
- 48:29Speaker 1: any It's not I don't want to. I just can't.
- 48:32Speaker 1: I'm I'm knowing it. The unfortunate part is that, like
- 48:35Speaker 1: if you want to say, this's like eight or ten
- 48:37Speaker 1: bowls that you know with teams that are any good?
- 48:42Speaker 1: The only two that stunk with the two college football
- 48:45Speaker 1: playoffs right now, they were like games, but I didn't
- 48:48Speaker 1: watch any fantastic On New Year's Day, I didn't watch
- 48:50Speaker 1: them and I was riveted. Yeah I got I got
- 48:53Speaker 1: one one more last question. I'm done. If we don't
- 48:58Speaker 1: If there was one receiver, I just want to get
- 49:01Speaker 1: just get John Metchi in the second round, and I'm
- 49:03Speaker 1: sad I thought i'd take I'd take John Metchi too
- 49:06Speaker 1: away from Alabama. Ya. Now he's coming off and yeah
- 49:10Speaker 1: there's another one. I yeah, I think John's right. I mean,
- 49:13Speaker 1: William's right. You can get a lot of good receivers.
- 49:17Speaker 1: You don't have to take them in the first that's true. Now,
- 49:20Speaker 1: all five taken in the first round this year look
- 49:23Speaker 1: like they're pretty good. You know, Tony and Bateman have
- 49:25Speaker 1: missed a lot of games, but they've been productive when
- 49:28Speaker 1: they've played. And I think if you know the way
- 49:30Speaker 1: defenses are trending, it makes sense you can you know,
- 49:34Speaker 1: if you're a decent athlete, you're going to have success
- 49:37Speaker 1: in the NFL if you're good receiver. Look at Chase
- 49:40Speaker 1: and Waddle. I mean, of course, but you know it's
- 49:43Speaker 1: it translates for sure. I just think an explosive guy
- 49:46Speaker 1: inside that that's the kind of receiver that you know,
- 49:49Speaker 1: like he's like we're talking about Metchi, that kind of
- 49:51Speaker 1: player just give somebody quick open and take off. Well
- 49:55Speaker 1: that's what I like. All right, will you play from Sunday?
- 49:57Speaker 1: Is what I've been talking about for a month. That
- 49:59Speaker 1: the Patriots lack. All right, We're going to take a break.

- 1:00:05Speaker 1: do his cutback and he would have walked in turns
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: and gives Stevenson run sent right into the end zone, touchdown.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Patriots topplerbentary football, Curt to this team coming out all
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: day long, high level of energy, all three faces, good
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: special teams, great play of the defensive side. An offense
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: just jamming right now, the fullback of the prepoint stance
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: to the left of Stevens, and he takes the run
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: and he takes it to the lock, he takes it
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: to the outside, he takes it to the potline to
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: the end zone. Touchdown, Patriots. That's how you get to
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: the QUARNERO. I didn't think he's gotta this ditch to
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: get there, but it said a little book inside then
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: the box, so you gonna set up that edge defender
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: and didn't get outside. Steven said, with a second touchdown
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: run of the second half, the Patriots have him the
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: half century market. If I'm mccandles man, I'm like, don't
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: call the fine horror and victory formation droptivity. The final
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: staff the whole portion of the regular season schedule for
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: the Patriots, they have reached ten wins. All right, we
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: are back after lunch here on a Tuesday, free form, Tuesday, buffet, Tuesday,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it. We've been talking about
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: everything going around at the NFL. Of course, the Patriots
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: what their current situation is in terms of the playoffs.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: They're in it, but it's just now a matter of
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: where in it they are. And we'll see on Sunday,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: So can't wait for that. Um and then UM what else?
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Anything else going on that we haven't talked about. Adrian
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Phillips extension a little bit. Yeah, it happened just before
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: they gave over Saturday. Three year extension for him, good news,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: And we've talked a lot about the pen. Three years,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: three years, roughly four million a year. Yeah, changeable, manageable deal.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: And yeah, great for him. I mean, just been a
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: great fit and they love those guys. Who was the
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: first person that you thought of when they signed him?
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: And not to say that they're the same caliber player,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: but like, who did you think of when you heard
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: that Phillips deal? You mean like as a comp like, yeah,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: like a Patriots player, Like what did you think of rum?
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: I thought a Saint James James Sanders. Yeah, like he
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: might be like they like better than James. Why I
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: do too. I think he's better than James, like James Sanders,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: But it's like, you know what, we like this guy,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: We're not gonna wait, we're gonna sign him. It's a
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: lot better than James Sanders. Yeah, I think he is,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: but it's just James Sanders got a lot more like
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: comparatively a lot more money. Yeah, per his like, this
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: is a good deal I think for the Patriot. People
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: said it's a steal. I think I think it is.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: And you know what's funny. I talked to him as
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: for a feature a couple of months ago, and one
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: of the last things I asked him was, you know
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: you're going to be a free agent this year. Any
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: interest in sticking around, like after two years here? And
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: he like, without a heartbeat, I mean missing a beat,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: was like, oh, absolutely, I really love it here. And
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: like you wonder sometimes whether guys are saying that because
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: they are still actually employed and they haven't hit free
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: agency yet. But like money, he loves it, and I
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: think they love him. Yeah, you know, I really enjoy here.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: And that's the way I kind of felt about Sanders
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: at the time. He was like one of the guys,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: you know, when they're thinking about who are our guys
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: when later leaves, who's gonna be my circle the wagon guys?
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: And I think Phillips is going to be one of
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: those guys playmaker just I mean, right from the get go,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: he seemed, you know, he was one of those guys
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: that worked his way up from the practice squad and
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: with the Chargers and they used him in different ways linebacker,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: and you know, I think even when they came here
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: in eighteen in the playoffs, he was, you know, part
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: of kind of unique different stuff. They were doing a
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: little bit with him, and he came here and it's like, hey,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: that's what we like to do here. But he's been
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: great fun to talk to. Just he kind of has
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: that outsider perspective a little bit that Judon has to
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: where he kind of gives you a little bit of
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: a glimpse behind the scenes without realizing he's doing it
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: because he hasn't been here forever. Um, So I'm excited.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: I think it's a move that kind of had to
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: make considering all the guys that they have, and he's
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: he's clearly I mean, I think we said it we
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: talk about the free agents. I always bring him up
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: as like kind of the top guy just because he
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: can do so much. And yeah, I'm glad that you've
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: got him done and like wanted to get it done before. Yeah,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: he got to the off seas and they can manage it.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: And you know, now the question is what they do
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: with mccordy with those void years you're going to be
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: paying him some money anyway, So you know, does he
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: want to come back? Just later at thirty seven, does
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: he want to come back? They'll definitely be some big
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: questions headlined by Jasey Jackson. I think there's definitely questioned mccordy.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: But I think Eric got another guy signed. Oh yeah,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: he puts that out there. They wow see that. Yeah,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: he wants to be here. He wants to be here
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: this one, this one will be easy. Let's get on this.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Yo's got an RFA ton or two, So yeah, we
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: need him Germany, we need It's not so much about
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: your player on the field. Your first driving up holding penalty.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I was like, come on, yako, I know really, But
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: then he had the nice block on the first time.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: But the two hundred section and the two other did
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Dieter von schnacking from whom? Speaking of blocks? Did you
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: see the play? It was later in the game. It
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: was a toss play. I don't know if it was
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: the Stevenson or Harris and Trent Brown was out in front.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Did you see talking about you don't want to play?
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: There was a guy literally out of the way. He
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: just ran out of bounds like I don't want any
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: part of this. He was setting the edge, setting the edge.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: I saw that one man, when Trent Brown gets going,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: like what do you got to do? But that's another
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: one of those football pads out there. That's another one
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: of those plays that the NFL has eliminated any chance
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: for the defense right because you can't go low right,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: So he can't do anything to protect himself there. He
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: has two options. One I can get my absolute clock cleaned,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: or I can get out of the way rights out
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: of bounds. He chose the He turkle circled around like
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: you're talking about me too. It jumped out. Oh man,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: all right, let's get back to the phones and emails.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: Um Chris with a T. I know it's Christian, the
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: other Christian in LA. What's up, Christian? Hey you guys.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: It's been a couple of weeks. I've been battling COVID,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: like a lot of us here in the country have
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: for the second time actually, so you know, I've been
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: off the off the line, but still watching the game
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: and listening to you guys. And you guys bring me
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: so much entertainment. So good to be able to talk
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: to you again. So like a lot of people. I've
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: been running the roller coaster of emotions from feeling elated
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: that we could possibly have been the number one seed
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: in the you know, in the AFC, to possibly thinking
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: that we might maybe make the playoffs. Right, we had
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: the two game skid. So now that we're in the playoffs,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: my emotions are settled and I'll take what i can get.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: What I'm mean by that, if we're able to win
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: a few games, make a run, and who knows, of
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: course I will take that. But if we are just
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: one and done, I'll certainly hold my head high like
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: the rest of the players. Right, well, hold I've had high.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: We're walking through the off seasons feeling like we've accomplished
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: something that we did more than anyone probably expected of us.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: So with that said, I have a question about the
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: off season for you guys. We're obviously going to look
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: through the team, and one of the places that we're
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: going to look at, obviously receiver. I think we're gonna
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: be looking for a number one receiver. So here's my question.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: When trying to choose a number one receiver, and as
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: the start, I think we just consult the guys from
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Pittsburgh because they seem to always get right right. But
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: when trying to choose a number one receiver for this team,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: do we go with number one someone who fits very
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: talented obviously, who fits the scheme that we already play.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Number two someone who's just an uber town and scary Towns,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: a guy that we're going to try to set a
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: mold into what it is that we do. Or number
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: three a talented receiver that excels at running the route
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: tree that Mac Jones seems to throw the best door
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: number two? Which way would you guys go? Door number two? Please?
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: You'd go for the most talented, absolutely, as long as
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: he wasn't like, you know, a rockhead, Yeah yeah, who
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: has no you know, aptitude for for doing anything other
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: than just like I'm you're talking about, Like if there's
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: a Jamar Chase like kind of player out there, but
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: jar Chase, you're not molding him into your offense. You're
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: molding offense around him. That's exactly right. But I don't
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: have any problem with their system because I think their
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: system is good and it works. But I want a
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: guy that's talented enough to take stuff in their system
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: and make big plays with it. Sure, Yeah, and Jamar
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Chase would work in any system. Yeah, and look, we
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: already have like it's it's been over a decade now,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: but we have evidence of a player like that working
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: in this offense. His name is Randy Moss. Came in here,
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: smart player, got it right away, made plays, big plays downfield,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: all every over the middle. You know. Thought, though, I
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: do like the idea of getting a receiver somewhat early.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be in the first round, but
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: somewhere early. Slot guys back here. I'll take Elijah Moore,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: who was a second round pick last year as a
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: slot guy. I don't I'm not interested in the next
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: seventh round guy that we're gonna make. T J. Moe,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: I'm not interested in that. I forgot about him. So, guys,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: what I said, how many how many seasons away do
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: you think we are from it being a Mac Jones
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: team where we're resting on the talent the way Mac
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Jones plays and we're sort of unmolding to beat the
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: team around him another season after next season, I think
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: next season you're still gonna you're still gonna have to
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: like second to last year, Yeah, I think next season
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: you're still gonna have to rely on on running in defense.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: I don't think that you're gonna be able to get
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: a guy like Jamar Chase. I just don't think so,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: you know, no, right, so hey, thank you, thank you, guys.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: My voice is kind of going to all right, feel
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: feel better Christians, you know, because like that's the other thing.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: So you you you sign Smith and Hunter Henry, Right,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: you need a tight ends. Now you got two tight ends.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: But you're gonna have to stick with them next year, right,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: they're gonna be on the teams. Yeah, they signed two
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: wide receivers, right, you know, so like this pose fool
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: guys think anyone will not be back? Now? I do
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: think you do you think all four? Yeah? Yeah, I
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: think there's a chance at least one of them. That's
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: what I was thinking. The odds are probably big, pretty
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: even hit the dump one of those guys because kind
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: of all their money next year they're getting the big
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: chunk of it. But you know, you're kind of like,
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: you know now and I don't mean and I don't
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: mean it in a bad way, but you're stuck with
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: those four, those four are you know, So you're gonna
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: have to add to that, you know. But I think
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: you can. You can, and you know, let it play
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: out like may. Sometimes competition is good for players like that.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Like these two guys, what I should say. These four
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: guys came in knowing we're on the team this year.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: We're secure, we just got paid a lot of money.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: They knew they weren't in any jeopardy of you know,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: being cut or released or anything. They knew they were
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: going to be on this team. Now you hear some
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: rumblings like, oh, we need to see more from Smith
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: and Aglare and this, and maybe that's kind of the
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: kick in the in the acid that they need. And
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: you bring in, you know, some more talent at tight ends,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: some more talented wide receiver, and all of a sudden
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: they're like, oh, yeah, I'm getting paid, but I'm not
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: playing as much. Maybe I should step up a little
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: bit more. Sometimes that that helps, you know, or just
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: a year in the system, and so like I mean
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: to me, it's too early to be talking about next year.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: But what I'll be looking for next year from this
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: offense is more consistency. And I'm not going to be
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: looking for next you know, when one year, all of
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: a sudden, we become you know, the La Rams or
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs. But I'm gonna be looking for
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: less mistakes, more consistency, and I'll be happy with that. Yeah, Well,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: tell me what the defense looks like, because that's I
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: think what's going to be a big part of the team.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: And you know how how reliant they were this year
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: on complimentary football and getting takeaways, and you know what,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: just what is the next version of the Patriots defense
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: without mccordy, High Tower, Jawan Bentley, What does that look like? Yeah? Presumably,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: and they could very well be back, you know, but
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: either way, they're coming towards the end one way or another.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: At some point, you're gonna have to turn things over.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: You're not gonna be able to play Dante High Tower,
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Jamie Collins and Kyle van Noy for the next ten years. Like,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: at some point they got to find another group of
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: second line linebackers that can do it. And either it's
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: going to be Cameron mcgron and Josh Ucha and we
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: just jump and hold our nose, or they're gonna bring
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: guys back. I don't know how they're going to figure
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: it out, but I just think everybody talking about we
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: need to get a wide receiver. It's like, well, what
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: would you let JC Jackson walk to sign said wide
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: receiver or do you want to sign I don't want
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: to sign. They just signed too. I don't want to
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: say I don't think they're gonna be able to spend
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: much money in free agency. Well, you know, I was
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: thinking about, like, you know, other teams have had more
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: injuries than us, and you know, we're lucky and all that,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: and we we have been you know, relatively speaking, we've
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: been pretty healthy. But there were a couple of losses early.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: You know, James White obviously, but ray Kwon McMillan, he
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: might be a sneaky loss, Like maybe he on this team,
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: he might have been able to contribute. I think, you know,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: and maybe he's a guy next year that I you know,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: he can, he can come out of nowhere and play.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: It's funny you say that, because usually I feel like
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: those guys are kind of just let's try him out.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: They were elsewhere him a one year deal, see what happens.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: But Mayo brought him up at a specific point and said,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: like in this they never say this stuff. Like he
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: was like, we'd yeah, we were just disappointed about Quam.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: We really felt like we could do some things with him.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: They do in situations like that with there's no way
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: to but they sign. It's like the guys that tell
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: you about you know, the minor leaders they have, you
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: know in baseball. Well, I know they did resign him.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: I mean, they you know, here long enough at least
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: to say, hey, we want to get another. Look. Don't
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: you kind of think you know what he is at
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: this point? He's he's like a Jawan Bentley type yea,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: like he could contribute. I absolutely think he could could.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: But I think he's faster than Bentley, don't you a
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: little bit? No? No, I mean I think he's a
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: similar kind. I mean, I'm not again, I'm not. I
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: hate we get into these things because it makes us
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: sound like we think we know what we're talking about.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: We don't, um, But I just I'm just looking at
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: his history, his track record, and now he's got a
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: torn ACL so old. I don't know what I'm using.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: Your theory that you've you know, used for me a lot,
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: like anything they get from ray Kua McMillan next year,
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: I'm not counting on right. If he's a contributing player,
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: that will be forgot about him exactly, and I had
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: forgot about him to wait a minute. They had this
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: guy and they lost him. He had a great like
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: I was because I was thinking about the linebackers and
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: it's like, man, they got some work to do here,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: like like like as an example, maybe if he was
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: here all year, they would have never felt the need
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: to sign Jamie Collins, yeah, because they would have maybe
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: felt like they had enough depth there, you know, like
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Harvey Longy sort of developed into that he plays the
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: TAVAYI um, he's played a little bit that could have
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: been McMillan instead. And I think he's better than those guys.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: I think he's better than Longy. He's better than to buy.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: So he would have filled a role I think he
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: would have played. Yeah, Like I don't think he was
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: like a guy that would have been inactive every week,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: like Ronnie Perkins, right, I think you would have played.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: And that's another guy Ronnie Perkins and mcgron like could
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: be guys that That's what Mike just said, Like, that's
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: what I think your linebackers are gonna look like next year. Now.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Just because you have all different names there doesn't mean
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: they're gonna be good. You don't you don't know, no,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Efreny Jennings has one Jennings Yeah, that's right. Yeah. And
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: uh and and what's his face? The guy that's been
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: out all year after last, Terres Hall, which I know
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: that they they liked right well, yeah, I mean I
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: talked to someone who told me they really liked him
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: a lot, you know, way back, and like so, like,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I'm kind of panicking about the defense because of the
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: turnover that might happen, and maybe they're not. Maybe they're like, well,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: but they're gonna have to replace some of players, and
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: they also don't know what they're gonna get exactly out
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: of a lot of these guys grown especially Yeah, they
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: haven't really been able to work with much. Yeah. Uh,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: but we're still in twenty twenty two. Mike and Georgia.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: What's up? Mike, Hey, hey, I just got one really
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: quick question, like what's your evaluation and of what could
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: possibly be wrong with John HU Smith or our tight
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: end position. I Mean, I was totally ecstatic when we,
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: you know, first signed him at the beginning of the season,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: him Hunter Henry, but John U. Smith just hasn't really
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: produced to me as as as as much as uh
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: Hina Henry had. Now do you think they can morph
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: and figure it out and then you know they can
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: you know, uh turn into like a powerhouse combination like everybody.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: So what's what when they when they signed John hu Smith?
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: What was your expectation for this would be good production?
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: What was your expectation? Well, honestly, I thought it would
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: be something north of what we had when we had
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Ron and the guy that we don't speak about anymore.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: You thought it would be better than Gronk and Hernandez. Well,
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: I didn't think it would be better than Bron, but
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: I thought that John New would be better than Hernandez. Okay,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: So that's this is that's my point. This is that
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: that perfectly encapsulates my point. Like John Smith, I think
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: has been disappointing in general. But if someone was thinking
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: that they were getting something better than now in Hernandez,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: that's on the someone, not on him. Yea, his career
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: best is forty catches, right, and someone was thinking he
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: was going to be better than a guy who caught
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: like ninety catches for the Patriot And he's coming with
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback, you know, right, and he's the second
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: tight end. He's the he's the end, the twelve personality.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: I think, I think, can you think of a ton
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: of like, Wow, he just can't do it, like plays
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: for him. Like his frustration to me is is either
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: his plays that he makes get called back or he
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: gets called for a penalty and calls back someone else's play. Yeah,
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: that's my frustration. Yeah, the one otherwise he has like
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: thirty catches, Right, they don't throw it to him all
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: that much. He has has thirty basically basically thirty catches
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: for three hundred yards. It's like getting mad Dan Graham
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: doesn't have because he's Daniel Graham. That's a great I mean,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: that's just who he is. I just think that's what
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: he is. I think he's I mean, Henry can't block
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: at all, so they use Smith as a blocker. Yeah. Now, Henry,
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: to his credit, has been really good in the red zone.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: He has nine touchdowns I think, yes, so he's been
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: really good in that department. So for that, you say
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: he's been a really good productive player. Yeah, I don't
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: think there's been. I don't think it's been a huge
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: disappointment with those two tight ends. But I think what
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: we all thought heading in has made it like a disappointment.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Was he the one and then the Saints game that
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: sort of return it Like I think when people think
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: of them, that's what they think of and that's unfair.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: And if that if that play had happened in a
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: week sixteen instead of Week three, Yeah, it would be
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: looked at all different. That was the impression you had
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: Smith throughout the season, because that's basically I mean, what
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: do you think he did in his first game? Because
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: I have to admit on him, I was completely stunned
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: because I was doing the matchup yesterday for the Dolphins.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: I was similarly stunned by how productive Nelson Aglore was
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: in that game. UM, right with you? Yeah, but I
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: don't I don't remember, but five catches, five targets. Yeah,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: for Jonah Smith in the first game. Now, there was
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: some rough spots, like he fumbled on one of them. Yeah,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: it was it was like a screen in the red
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: zone that they kind of set up and David Andrews
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: recovered the fumble, So that could have been that could
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: have been a bad play. Um, But for the most part,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: he was kind of there. And I think that they've
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: slowly over the course of the season, said he's more
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: valuable to us as a blocker than a receiver. Henry's
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: the better What's what's feed Henry the ball? And Henry
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: is the better receiver. I don't I don't think anybody
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: would argue. Yeah, yeah, definitely, all right, Mike, thanks for
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: the call. Well, I mean, and I think I'm guilty
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: of this too. Is in the build up to the season,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: after they started those guys, I was saying, twelve personnel,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: the two tight ends, it's back, like, you know, we're
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: building that up, as if we felt like they wanted
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: to go back to that or that was what the
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: main plan assigning two tight ends was. When you know,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: now it seems like they just kind of did the
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: traditional thing. They played more eleven personnel than anything. That's
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: I know why because Eric's guy ya yackam. Actually I
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: like to call him block them. They they've run a lot,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: They've run a lot with him on the field, and
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: I think that's what they've they've decided to do. But
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: I don't want to, like, I don't want to come
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: off as I'm being apologetic for Jonah Smith because I
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: think he's been disappointing. I think it was reasonable to
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: expect more than they've gotten from him in the receiving department.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: But I also don't think it's been a des like
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I don't think he's I don't think he's that far
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: off of what he is. Yeah, Like, how many times
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: have you seen, like Paul said, a play to Smith
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: where he just totally botched it or and there have
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: been some curious place yeah, like penalties, you know, and
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: and he's actually had big plays that he's made that
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: all back from. Yeah. And I think the fact that
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: we're in you know, week seventeen, week eighteen, the end
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: of the season, and Josh is still trying to find
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: ways to incorporate him as a playmaker, whether it's handoffs,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: whether it was it was hard, it was one place Sunday,
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: but I thought he looked good at thought. Yeah, I
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: mean like they obviously he had like thirteen yards or
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: something like that. I don't even know, you have to
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: look it up. But I mean my point is like
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: they still want him involved as a playmaker. One catch,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: one target, twenty yards. I would not give up. I
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: would I would say I would be looking forward to
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: what he can bring next year after after having this
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: this whole year in the yard, in the offense. But
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I but I would just say, like just to nip
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: it in the bud, don't expect seventy or eighty catches. No, no, no,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: that's what people thought he was going to be this year. Right.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: I think people got excited because when you think two
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: tight ends, you think bronc Hernandez, and you think it's
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: gonna think that heavy. I think people continue to do
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: what they've always done in the past. Oh, he's forty
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: catches with Tennessee. Now we'll get him and we'll be
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: able to do forty times x right when it doesn't
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: work that way when twelve isn't the quarterback anymore. And
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: that's no disrespect to Mac Jones. That's not his fault.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: It's just reality. It's reality. They're not gonna they're not
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: gonna make every all of these guys better, like as
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: trying to get better. Right, he's working hard, right, you know. Uh,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: web radio at Patriots dot com, let's hit some emails,
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: um Andrews and Vermont. Listening to the postgame show yesterday
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: when you guys started talking about the best Wings, thought
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: I'd shut out Fergus and Saint Petersburg. It's right across
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: the street from Tropicana Field. Highly recommended. A right, you'll
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: be down in Florida. Why don't you see if you
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: can get up to Saint he might go that far
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: from onto the Patriots. Winovich finally got some snaps on Sunday,
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: mostly due to Judon being out on the COVID list. Well,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: he was playing. But do you expect him to continue
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: getting snaps and defense or will he go back to
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: his full time special teams role? Yeah, great question. Don't know.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: I mean this this week he could potentially see more
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: action only because we don't know what they're going to
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: do with their personnel as far as resting guys or whatever.
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: So I wouldn't be surprised if Winovich plays a lot
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: more in this game as well. But long term, yeah,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: long term that's not going to be the case. Yeah,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: he's I mean, he's definitely taking a step back on defense.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: I just think he's played less a lot this year
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: than he did last year. Last year he had a
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: chance to and you know, I just I think he's
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: a he's the third down guy and that's that's what
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: his special teams and I don't know another year contract
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: and then I think he'll probably be gone. Uh. Prenae
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: on from Chicago on this agenda free day. Heard you
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: talked about Tom Brady last week while talking about John
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: Madden in the first Super Bowl for him and going
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: for it instead of overtime. I don't know where I
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: heard it, but I heard from NFL Films or somewhere
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: that Bill Belch explained his reasoning for going for it,
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: and his reasoning is the defense was able to stop
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: the Rams offense in the first half, but Kurt Warner
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: was able to get points in the second half, and
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: he felt at that time the defense was gassed, So
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: if he went for overtime, he was not confident the
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: defense stopping them anymore. So that was his reasoning for
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: going forward in regulation. I thought i'd share it with
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: you guys. I like to show to keep it up
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: makes sense, sense and ps. Paul has a very good
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: understanding on all the teams by just watching Red Zone,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: it's impressive. I don't know how he cobbles it all
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: together because I watched Red Zone and it's just a
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: big blur in my mind. Paul can like extract each
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: play group, each one into each individual game and then
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: recall them as they happened. You see, do you ever
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: see a beautiful mind? Yeah, that's what it is to me.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: I think Paul he's got like you remember that the
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: second hal playing in the third quarter. I don't obnoxious.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: I'm obnoxious, but I'm not bad obnoxious. I thought I
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: was playing at town. And plus the fact that college
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: funds are riding on the outcast. Yeah, I wish the
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: season if Hatch were put on a good week this
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: week for me Alex in Montreal, A longtime listener, first
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: time emailer. Unfortunately I can't listen to the shows live,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: so apologies. I know that the Patriots played a COVID
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: hit Jack's team that was already bad to begin with,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: But are there any long term positives that we can
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: draw from the win, either with Mac or other players? Also,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: do you think Belichick, Mac and Born were laughing and smiling?
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: What do you think they were laughing and smiling about?
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: On the Sylum? These guys, that's what laughing about? All right?
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Can we talk about that a little bit? Okay, there
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: was a lot of celebrations, right, I know you guys
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: probably didn't like it. I do. I like fun um
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: but but I'm wondering on that day, let me ask you, no, no, no,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: I have no like I'm gonna I'm remarkably consistent when
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: it comes to celebrations. I think it's a hard game,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: and I think you should be allowed to celebrate when
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: you do something right. Okay, now I'm not telling you
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: about like you should have celebrated to that level on
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: the fiftieth point. What that's for someone else to worry about.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: But I'm asking you, guys, do you think that maybe
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: was a little bit like almost not like Bill said,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: you know, let's let's have some fun. You know, do
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: you think there was maybe something talked about with getting
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: out there have some fun and have some success and
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: enjoy it and celebrate it like there was something from Bill,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: because it seemed like it wasn't just Mac. Yeah, it
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: seemed like there was a lot. And then it gets
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: to the fourth quarter and it continued Like I just
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: was wondering if maybe it was more than just a
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: coincidence that they celebrated more, it seemed in this game
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: than you do you see in most Yeah, I also
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: saw somebody might have been marketing someone in the pregame
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: just said Mac looks really loose today and same kind
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: of thing like that's what I'm was like a directive, like, hey,
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: light up and have some fun. Yeah. Maybe to Fred's point,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: maybe the Jags coach called up and said, hey, look,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: do what you want. Fred had it. Fred had it first.
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: Just Fred had it first. You guys want to work,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: you know, do you know how we we we had
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: talked at the end of the first half when it
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: was like twenty eight to three, um, but I think
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: it was twenty one three and the Patriots had the
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: ball inside the ten and the Jags were calling time
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: out and I and I actually said to you guys,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: like I respect the fact that they're playing quote right,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: like they're still trying to win the game, but this
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: is just dumb. You just given another opportunity. And it
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: ended up being inconsequential because the Patriots scored and the
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: Jags predictably didn't do anything with it. And it was
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: twenty eight three, but not Fred had it. They weren't
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: calling time out because they were trying to get back
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: in the game. Bill, you want us to call time Bill,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: you want us to set up something so your defense
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: get a little to a minute work. Got it got
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: it to time. Maybe that's what it was like. They
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: had the handfulingles across the field. Yeah yeah, uh speing
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: res though tuned in late. Sorry if you already addressed it.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: But what's Wilkerson's ceiling? If Bill played him over Harry
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: in a Gotta Have a game, it's puzzling. We haven't
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: seen more of him this year. See, I got a
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: little thing on that. I don't think he was really
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: playing for Harry. I think he was playing for Agalore
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: because he was playing the outside X receiver the whole game. Like,
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: that's not Harry's really spot Like. I don't see them
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: as connected as a lot of people are saying. I
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: think they want to throw the ball, they wanted to
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: go downfield. Harry's not a downfield receiver. He's I mean,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: if if it's a run game, that's that's kind of
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: what he does, the physical stuff. So I don't really
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: see the one to one comparison there that's kind of
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: being made that I disagree a little with that. You
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: don't think Harry played Agalore's role on the Bill's game
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: not really? Well, I think the game was different. They weren't.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: They weren't thrown like they were the game. Do you
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: think they played the same kind of outside role. I'd
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: have to look more specifically at what Harry did, but
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: I feel like he's he doesn't do what Aglore does.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: And I think that this was a game where you're
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: gonna throw receiver does that's neither here nor there. I
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: know that he doesn't do the things that Bill has
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: always told me. A report and get open and catch
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: the ball. He doesn't do those things. But I think
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: they wanted an athletic guy who can run on the outside,
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: and that's not what Harry is. I think. I don't know.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: That's how I that's how I see it. And I
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: think Harry's still has use for this team. I just
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: don't think he's done, but I think I do. I
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: think that was more about Agalore and having some downfield
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: speed than it was. I just don't think Harry's effective
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: in doing does now that we a total agreement. I
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: just think that they tried one way one week and
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: they said it didn't work. We got to try something.
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: I mean, Wilkerson was brought up two weeks in a row.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: You know, Harry had the right, so if they had
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: the rest, so if they wanted Wilkers. They had Wilkerson
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: the previous right, and if he was replacing agal Agalo
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: didn't play last week either, right, But against Buffalo, a
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: team that you want to run against, that was probably
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: like the meeting, it was like, I mean, everyone assumed
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: certainly ran you know, it was this week. Everyone just
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: assumed it was a one for one Wilkerson for Harry,
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: and Wilkerson's better not necessarily the person, but the role,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: the row whatever. Like Harry got the chance in the
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: first game, will person got the chance in the second game.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: That's what people are saying. Mike might be right, It
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: might not be the same position, right, It might not
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: the same duties. Its curious that they were both active
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: for one game and then the second game they deactivate Harry, right,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: and then it just happens that that's why people immediately
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: jumped to that, and it could be true. But I mean, yeah,
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: and I think that might be because of the running backs, right, right,
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: because was it one of the running backs out of
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: the Buffalo game. Yeah, yeah, so you had both of
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: them in for this game, so someone had to say, right, yeah,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: Bill and at Albuquerque writes in question about the Jacksonville game.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: If you're playing an extremely depleted team and you have
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: two running backs which are the core of your offense,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: one of which is slightly injured, wouldn't you spell them
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: for your surprise undrafted player JJ Taylor. What does it
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: say about Taylor that he was a healthy scratch on Sunday?
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Does that put him in Nikil Harry territory? I know,
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: he can't really be a disappointment not being a draft
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: pick at all. I mean he's been I mean, but
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: he has been mostly a healthy scratch all. Yeah, Like
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: he's been used when they've needed an extra running back.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: And I don't think they could afford to go into
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: a game like that and say, you know what, Harris,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: we're gonna sit him and we're gonna go with JJ Taylor.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: Because I know it sounds silly now when you win
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: fifty to ten, but it kind of was a gotta
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: have it game, yeah, and I had to have it right,
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: and I think it was a not just a got
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: to have it for a win, but like they needed,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: I think, to see themselves playing well making plays. Yeah,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: you know, even if it was against a scout team version.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: And there's no doubt that the final score of the
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: game would have been fifty to ten had Harris been
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: inactive in JJ Taylor played like, I have no doubt
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: about that. But I don't think you can go in
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: if you're Bill Belichick and assume that, can you? Right? No,
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: I just think anyway you cut it, it's kind of
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: a disappointment year for J. J. Taylor. You thought there
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: were some things last year that he showed and this
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: year they've been in a pinch a couple of times
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: and they haven't gone to him. And I mean, you
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: just have to read between the lines. Also, But I also,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: what did you say it's something about Sony Well, I
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, never has a I gotten more
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: mileage out of a three yard pretty calvery season. But anyway,
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: he's doing pretty well, is he? Yeah? Is he anyway
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: yards in December than Jonathan Taylor? True? That's true. So anyway, Um, Also,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: I wouldn't discount J. J. Taylor coming off of an
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: extended COVID absence, which clearly he had COVID. Yes, this
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: wasn't one of those Oh come on, he got nailed
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: with a false positive. He was out a couple of
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: weeks weeks by by so he might be dealing with
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: some lingering and thing we should mention that they did
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: make a transaction on that. I know with Miles Bryant
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: going on the COVID list now, don't know how sick
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: he is or isn't, but he's lately. It's not just one.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: It's in line with the way it has normally been.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: Um let's see Christian from Colorado. So the past couple
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: of weeks have been hearing a few people calling right
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: in about Matt Owns, talking as if he's the guy,
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: or who would you trade for him? How many more
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: years would you give him? Just upsetting that people would
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: already start talking about that he took us to the
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: playoffs as a rookie, he's breaking rookie records. How could
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: people question when he's just a rookie. Can you all
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: help me understand where people's heads are on that topic?
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Question what or was it possibly just upset with the
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: back to back losses. I think it was just I
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: think people were just wondering, like, you know, all season
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: they've been ranking these rookie quarterbacks, you know, and you
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: know who's the best, and Mac has been the best,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: And I think it's just a question though, like is
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: it is MAC a product of being on the Patriots?
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: And what a guy like Trevor Lawrence be as good
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: or better on this? I would just ask what you
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: think he's done? Forget about where he's done it, ask
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: what do you think he's done? And what do you
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: think is special about what he's done? I think he's
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: been great. I think he's been great. I think, so
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: why are you okay to say that and some other
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: guy can't say? I think he's been averaging. I wonder
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: how long he's gonna be. But I also think I
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: think he's been great. But I have to be honest.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: People were you know direct question? Would you rather have
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: him or Trevor Lawrence? I'd rather have Trevor Lawrence. I'm sorry, Oh,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: is that what this is reference to? They've given you
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: some maybe maybe I don't know. Fred's Fred Nut used
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: to get? I don't know. Is there anybody who wouldn't
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: want Trevor Lawrence? Yeah? Yeah, oh yeah, I'm telling you. Oh,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: I get killed on the black I know, what's the
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: number two sports station in town. But w EI's morning
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: producer claims there was only two quarterbacks in football that
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: he would trade. I know we talked about him, but
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: I mean later Don w Ei says I would trade
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: him for Dak Prescott and Kyler Murray. That's it. I'm
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: talking about anybody serious, Okay. I mean, I'm watching a
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: pinata last night in Cleveland. Who when he had a
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: rookie year, broke the rookie quarterback touchdown pass record right
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: that was broken the next year by Justin Herberto two
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: years later, whatever it happened to be. Um, they have
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: a huge question on their hands. Yeah, I know what
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: the answer would be for me if I was Cleveland. Yeah.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: See you let's put it this way, like if I
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: was a Pittsburgh fan during the Patriots dynasty, and you
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: know Roethlisberg is my quarterback, Tom Brady's over there. I
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: love my quarterback. I love Ben, but if someone says
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: you can have Tom Brady, I'd say, okay, I'll take
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: Tom Brady. I don't like Ben, right, but I'm just admitting,
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: who is that at a quarterback? You know, like I
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: even thought, like you, you watched a game on Sunday
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: where I thought Lawrence looked every bit like a rookie,
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: like an inexperienced guy. He looked shell shocked at times,
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: and I still came away thoroughly and impressed. Impressed, Like
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: I saw enough throws that were just special throws, Like
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: he didn't have no one cover a receiver down the
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: sideline for an easy twenty yard touchdown right the way
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: the way mc did didn't happen for him like that,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Like he had to throw into coverage all day. I
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: only saw really one really bad throw and it was
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: the one that jac Jackson picked off. The guy was
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: I think Marvin Jones was three yards inside of where
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: we threw to it. Now, it may have been Marvin
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: Jones's fault for all I know, but I think it
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: was Lawrence's fault. It was a bad throw, like the
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: other pick, the first pick that he throws right to
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: his running back and it deflects him miles like that
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: bat's on Trevor Lawrence. Like this is why I don't
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: look at the stats to tell you, like, right, who
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: has a who's the more accurate passer? Right? I have
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: no idea how these things. How many catchable balls did
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: he throw that weren't caught? Right? How many times did
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: a guy on? Conversely, I thought Jacoby Myers made like
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: three really tough catches early in that game the other
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: day on passes thrown way out in front of him.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: I just, I just I don't know. Maybe maybe he's
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: a rockhead. Maybe he just Oh that could be too.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: I don't tell you, Trevor Lawrence is guaranteed. I don't.
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: I'm just saying from what I see, he's he's the
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: most talented rookie quarterback to come out this year, and
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: probably the most talented quarterback to come out in several years,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: probably since Andrew Luck. Yeah, So like, I think he's
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: pretty good, you know, but I love having Mac. I'm
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: perfectly satisfied with Mac Jones as our quarterback. You know.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: But I think, but I think that's been the talk,
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: you know, Like you know, people have been talking about
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: the young quarterbacks, you know, because there's a lot of
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: them now, there's a lot of nice young quarterbacks in
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: the NFL. It's just hard here because the bar is
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: I don't want to say the bar is six super Bowls.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: But like, I don't think, like I think, you know,
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: when people talk about Artif Mat Jones, he's gonna get
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: He's gonna be here for ten years, He's gonna get
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: a Super Bowl a lot of people probably not good
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: enough around here. Like, you know, I got another reason
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: why it's really hard because you win like two games
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: and you don't. You're a rookie quarterback and you go
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: out there and you don't fall over yourself and people
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: start comparing you to Brady. That happened immediately, Mike, I'm sorry.
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: It happened before the regular season even started. There were
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: comparisons to Brady. That's what makes it hard here. Yeah,
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: it's like we go crazy. We're absolutely crazy. You want
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: to have people that should be looked at for mental illness.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: It should be us, it should be you would have
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: thought you have thought that one year at cam Newton
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: would have kind of maybe maybe like reminded people like like,
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: I mean, seriously, he went out and had a couple
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: of practices where he looked like, oh, this guy, this
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: guy looks like he might have he might have an idea,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: you know what. He reminds me of Brady? And I mean,
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: am I wrong? Right? Did not happen immediately like that? Yeah,
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: I mean I was happy with Phil Simms and you know, no,
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: it's got to be Brady, you know, And people continue
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: to say, how much better his year has been than
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: Brady's year in two thousand and one, because again on
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: the numbers, Mac Jones is thrown from more yards. But
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: Brady won your games yet as a first year quarterback.
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: Do you know what happened in Indian Buffalo? Right those
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: two games for to Mac? Brady won those two games?
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: Right when that happened in two thousand and one, Brady
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: won the game, Carlo writes in New Listener loves the show.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: You guys are so funny. Just wondering what your thoughts
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: are on people comparing Mac to Brady. And I didn't
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: set this up when Brady first started. Brady was good
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: but not great in the beginning. Any chance Mac could
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: become that great? Also, do you feel Josh McDaniels mixes
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: things up enough? Especially in the red zone? He seems
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: to be so predictable. I was hoping that we would
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: have had a Philly special drawn up for the Colts
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: game in Frank Reich. I think Josh has run a
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: lot of trick plays this year at various times. I
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: don't see why he's getting so much static, he said,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: specifically in the red zone. I don't know. Yeah, they
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: were good, and I think there's something to be said
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: for you have a rookie quarterback, try to keep it,
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: you know, as simple for him as possible. When you're
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: in scoring position like that, you don't want to do
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: anything to have him make a stupid turnover because then
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: all the all the all you're gonna hear is like, oh,
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: what's he taking those kind of chances for in the
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: red zone you're about to score? You know. I mean,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: I would just say on the Brady thing, I think
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: last week showed again, but that that, to me is
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: what makes Brady Brady. The ability for fifty seconds to
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: go right down the field and score a touchdown zone
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: and that's just one of your top receivers just had
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: a hissy fit. But it's not even and he's like, yeah,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: I don't care. I'm just gonna win this game. See Like,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: but I'm not even saying it like last week. I
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: saw him do that. In two thousand and one. Oh,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: I know that they down down. They would down two
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: scores in the last five minutes against the Chargers, they
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: would down two scores in the second half against the Jets.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: They were down heading into the last drive of the
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: game in Buffalo in the Snow the game that he
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: got his helmet knocked off by Nate Clements ended up
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: tying that game and winning in and overtime. Mike told
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: you who it was. I knew it was Snow. That's
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: about it. You remember when Nate Clements coming off, right, Mike?
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: I do remember it, but I don't know name. What
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: was his birthday? Well, Nate Clements was a really good player.
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: I know you don't know any players who played for
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: other teams, but that was when antwife task, Antwine Winfield
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: and Nate Clements were a pretty good cornerback tandem for
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: the Bills in the early two thousands, and now, ironically enough,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: Brady's playing with Antwin Winfield son. That's amazing, it really is.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: Um let's go to Let's get to some of the
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: phone calls Baltimore for shot. This might know this, You
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: might know the answer this, Mike, Yeah, I do. I
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: had a question about them about the Well, I guess
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: your opinion about the playoff schedule? So which one? So
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: which time slot? Which I already prefer? And first game
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: on Saturday Saturday? Which time slots first game on Saturday
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: for the Patriots? Would you say or you're asking us
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: like our preference for the Patriots. For the Patriots. If
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: they play Buffalo for the Patriots, I'd take that Monday
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: night slot, Yeahnday, just for as long as I've been saying,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: as long as they don't get the early Saturday, the
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: four clock Saturday, Oh, I would take and I would
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: love that. Why wouldn't you want that? Yeah, I just
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: think that's the terrible time. I don't know why usually
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: because do you have to work for Sean, well working
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: then usually I'm not in the house to like seven
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: or eight, all right, So I get it. I get
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: it's a personal thing. Yeah, I get it. Here Also,
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: I think there's also a little bit of I just
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: want to I just wanted to see y'all just here,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: y'all opinion. But I don't think we would get the
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: Monday night just because the matchup in Bills and Patriots
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: in the stadium. I was thinking they would probably just
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: put us at the one o'clock Sunday. I don't know,
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: I don't, I really have no idea. Yeah. The only
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: reason I mean, we're saying Monday because Peter King's the
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: one that started. No, I'm saying he asked that would
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: be the best for the Patriots. I think it would
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: It would help the Patriot I think from a mental standpoint,
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: and I'm being dead serious about this, to ask Buffalo
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: to host them on a Monday Night again after what
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: happened a month ago, I think would be a mental
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: edge for the Patriots. Okay, I mean, I'm not telling
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: you it's worth anything. Yeah, but I'd rather be the
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: team that one on Monday Night there in the fashion
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: that they did, than the team that lost on Monday
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: Night there in the fashion that they did. Right, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: I like that. And what do you guys think Max
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: said to Bill on a sideline that make him laugh?
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: I'm not sure if Max said it or Bill said it,
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: because Bill turned around and both Mac and Born were
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: cracking up, so I think Bill said something no idea. Yeah,
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: I don't know what he'd said though, Yeah, probably teams
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: in the NFL. It's a joke. He probably mother off
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: somebody and they just cracked up. They were like, oh, oh,
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: it was the joke. I'll give you another mental edge
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: that I think the Patriots have acquired. That game getting
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: moved to four to twenty five on Sunday. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: why just more time for less sun. Yeah, usually, isn't
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: that when the pho storms roll in like mid afternoon?
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: I understand you go down there and what is one
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: of the things that you concerned with? The heat? Heat? Right? Yeah, true,
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: heat of the afternoon. Certainly, you know, I'm not telling
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: you it's gonna be like twenty degrees colder, but you're
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: not gonna be baking in the sun at four twenty five, right, Okay,
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: all right, right, yeah, okay, minor. I'll take it, minor,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: but I think a mental edge nonetheless. All right, Eddie
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: and Florida's hangover from the post game show. Time to
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: text Hardy and tell him someone just hung up on
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: Fred Eldred in North Carolina. What's up Eldred? Hey, So,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: how y'all doing good? Yoh yeah, just riding through the
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: snow in Virginia. I couldn't believe what happened. People were
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: stuck for nineteen hours. Are you you're not stuck in that,
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: are you? No? No? No, we're rolling now. I've been
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: rolling and we're just started. But certain people, you know,
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: they were stuck to certain people they would reckon and
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: I'm glad I didn't go into that tunnel on that
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: during water. That's a dirt to go that way? Is
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: that the one of Chesapeake though? Yeah, Chesapeak go to
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: chests speak or Newport dudes that way? Yeah, you gotta
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: go that way. But my question is just by football, okay,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: hypothetically speaking, don't you think that you play this game
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: like okay, uh, because I know Miami ain't gonna let down.
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: I don't care if it is about packing in mathematical
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: get in, but Buffalo. If Buffalo loose, just the Jet,
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: Miami doesn't have a chance. Don't have a jet. Miami's
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: out eliminated. You got a chance to play for the division? Yes,
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: if the Jet somehow and the Bills play one of
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: them stupid games, right and they end up losing, y,
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: you know, then you just play down. You know you're
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: gonna kick yourself with the butt. I would play to
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: try to win the division regardless. To see the score
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: on the scoreboard with a Buffalo thirty eight get zero,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: then I said, okay, call off the dog and I'll
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: pack it in that way. But other than that, I
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: had to play the win. Oh yeah, they're they're gonna
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: play the win, and I'm not so sure Miami will.
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: But we'll see. We'll see what the personnel looks like
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: as THEE as the U, as the week goes on.
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: I saw they made some roster moves yesterday. Um, okay,
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: they activated Preston Williams um who spent out for a Yeah,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: so okay, but uh, Paul, Paul, I got one more thing.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: I was laughing doing the post game, a pre game,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: I think when that guy from Japan was talking about Harry,
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: I couldn't. I couldn't get in fast enough to make
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: a phone call. Yeah, but for everybody that still holds
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: out for Harry, he's been in there active for three years.
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: I don't care we're going to roster on the field
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: or not. I've been saying it for three years. Be active,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: you know you have been. I hope Wickerson, hope Wickerson
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: does a little bit better. I like him a little
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: bit better. But number one draft, y'all talk about that
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: guy from Alabama. I love to take that guy from
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: Michigan or off play from Ohio or Wilson or wait,
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: who are you alright, elder? Because I know you watched
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: some of these games and no one else does, so
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: I can talk to you about this. So you're talking
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: about Hutchinson from Michigan. That number one. Yeah, the defensive end.
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: Oh wait, who who? I don't know who? He's cocky.
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: He has number one. He gave when they played Ohio State.
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: He gave them, he gave him a battle. But but
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: Ohio State, I love that que. I'm not alfully familiar
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: with the receivers on Michigan except for one that that
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: Sanders still kid. I know because only because he went
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: ever high. But I don't know he's number He got
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: a number one, he was the number one. He's bout
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: like six three, and umkay, I'll keep an eye out.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: I'll keep an eye out for him. I'll look for him, Okay.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: And then the two guys from from Ohio State, ye,
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: both in the coming out Yeah yeah, the one that
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: had three hundred yards in the Rose Bowl. Is he's
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: not eligible, Yeah he's not. He won't be able to
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: for the next year. Yeah, and I think Scott will
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: come out two years after that. That's a good quarterback
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: for the freshman. That's that's a pretty good quarterback. But um,
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: I'm just like I said, I hope to give the
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: guys some help something he didn't give a Brady but
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: That's one thing I gm don't like though, help power.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: He just don't pay that position. He don't pay it,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: so he don't pick it either, So it's cheaper to
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: draft it. Yeah, I'm a draft. But if they come
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: out good, think about you get Waddle case. I know
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: we couldn't get him. Just say he had one of
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: those just jeff years from now, his contract gonna come up.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: You think people gonna pay that. We've been sniffing around it.
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: We wanted Waddle this year. Fred was all over Jefferson
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: when he came out. I gotta give you a credit
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: for yeah, because that was not a conventional pick. Fred
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: loves justin Jefferson. Yeah, yeah, I liked the Jefferson too,
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: and I liked it Chase. But but about my biggest bout,
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: my biggest big with Decay. But right now he had
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: acting up with in Seattle. Yeah yeah, so who knows
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: they might try to get rid of him. I tried. Yeah.
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: I think you're started. You're started to see see why
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: TK metcalf was the second round here, right? I think? Well,
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: I mean I think as Wilson goes, so does he
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: all right? Thanks? I also think he's a powder Yeah. Um,
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: Rick and Louisville. I was wondering if Paul gave his
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: world famous not after high tower sack in the second
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: play of the game. If not, when did he give it.
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: I was gonna give a before after seven thirty left
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: in the first quarter. I gave it on Wednesday first,
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: when they had twenty seven players on COVID. First, I've
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: never seen it. You know how they always say like
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: Alabama could be someone in the NFL, Yes, and it's
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: always laughable. Yeah, well, you got a chance to see
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: what it looks like when a non NFL team plays
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: an NFL team. That's what it would look like if
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: Alabama played the Patriots, because that wasn't an NFL game. Yeah,
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: I said that Paul gave the nod when the schedule
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: came out. Well that too. But Wednesday when I saw
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: like any chance of like you know, the any given
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: Sunday thing is completely out the window when you have
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: all those guys that didn't practice all week. Twenty seven
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: guys didn't practice, like I know, some of them played
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: in the game. Some of those guys that were on
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: COVID came back and played, but they didn't practice much
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: like like Judean in Tower. You know, well not high time.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: He was not COVID, but Judon didn't. Yeah, you know,
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: I was surprised Bentley played more than as much as
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: he did. I was expecting him to play that much.
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: Interesting a little bit, I mean, that's just yeah, why
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: were they tweaking Jude on a little bit? Uh? Jay
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: in Minnesota? In my opinion, I would want to play
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: the Bengals in the playoffs unless the Raiders make it,
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: only because Zach Taylor was a young coach in burrow
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: Is in his sophomore year. I think the Bill can
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: scheme up some game plans to confuse both of them,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: giving our defense a better chance to stop the high
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: powered offense and let our run game take control of
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: the game. I hear all that inexperience, I agree with it.
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: I think the Bengals defense is that's That's what I
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: was about to say. And all about their defense, now,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: they did a lot like what the Patriots did. They
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: really overhauled their defense in free agency and a lot
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: of the moves have worked. Um. Trey Hendrickson obviously gets
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: most of the headlines there. Um, I think he has
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: fourteen sacks. Um, Mike's good that's good. Um, it's not
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: a great defense, but it isn't it isn't a bad one.
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: But to me, it's the inexperienced factor. It was why
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: I agree with that email. But I also would completely
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: recognize that it's razor thin the only one. It's funny, Fred,
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: you can block your ears. Um. The only one that um,
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: I really feel strongly about and Mike and I so
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: passionately disagree on is I think far and away the
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: easiest opponent is Tennessee, the one that's going to get
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: the number one see And Mike really he gets mad
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: at me because of his crush on to stop it
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: right now by far and away the considering bringing Henry
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: back to pretty yeah, yeah, I know. And then what
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: is he going to be? I don't know, Um, dangerous,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: I just got it. You can't teach big. You have
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: a choice of playing against Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow,
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: or Ryan Tanney. I like that, Which one do you take?
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Like that, I know what you're saying, but like my
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: first time, I know what you're saying, but like I
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: would fear that running game like and we already saw
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: without Henry, like they were able to run the ball
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: on you. Now add Henry to the picks, and I
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: have no doubt that the Titans would be able to
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: run the ball in the Patriots, and I think that
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: would be a short. So now it's short quick. So
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: now they have fourteen points. I think I can get
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: that if I can't stop Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow or
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: Josh Allen from throwing it. Now I need thirty five points.
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: I'll take I'll take door number one. He's good, and
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: he's very very good. We saw the absolute differs situation
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: here in nineteen when they came here and did all
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: of these things that Eric just said would happen, right,
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: and they had fourteen points. Like, he's not going to
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: run better than he did that day. They couldn't stop him.
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: I find him now, now listen, what what could what
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: could change? Wow? What could change between now and then?
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: Is that day Tannehill couldn't throw it at all? I
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: think he threw for seventy five yards in a pick.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: You know, maybe he has a good Tannehill day and
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: he throws for two twenty and two touchdowns, and now
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: you get your thirty five points. Anyway, No, Hardy says
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: nice Tony writes in um what we Know at near
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: season's end, he says, the Patriots can beat up clearly
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: in fear of your teams. The Patriots can beat teams
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: which are at their level, but can also lose to them.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: The Patriots cannot beat teams that are better than they are.
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: Colts Buffalo Bucks in the Cowboys conclusion sounds like a
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: rebuilding team which might win a game in the playoffs,
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: but is clearly one to two years away from competing
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: at the highest level. And there's nothing wrong with that.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: No complaints. It's been a good season with hope for
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: the future. Okay, well, it's a rational email. Agree with that.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: John is looking for older podcast episodes. He wants to
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: go to the ones at particularly in the Super Bowl wins.
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: Oh wow, I wanted to listen to your guy's reaction
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: to feel Nostaljack nostalgia. Is that what he wrote? What? No,
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: it's how I read it. Oh yeah, I really actually
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: had an indism. Andre writes in He's got his NFL
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: Awards Coach of the Year Matt Laflour. It is funny
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: how that award always seems to go to someone who
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: quote unquote wasn't supposed to, like, you know, is it
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: Zach Taylor or someone like that or Bill? Yeah? Um,
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: but do you realize he's thirty nine and nine. I know,
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: I know he's thirteen and three, three years in a row.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: You mean Rogers? I don't care the fat buffoon that
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: was there before and wasn't thirty nine and nine? All right?
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: Am I wrong? Offensive Player of the Year Jonathan Taylor? Okay, sure,
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: Rookie of the Year Marchase, Yeah, wow? What about defensive
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: Defensive Rookie of the Year, Michael Parsons, Defensive Player of
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: the Year t J Watt, I go Michael Parsons, But okay,
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to spread it around, TJA,
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: come Back Player of the Year, Zach Prescott or DAK
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: that's a good one, yeah, Zak, I mean Dak. Yeah.
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: Executive of the Year Bill Belichick, because why not MVP
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers. He's probably gonna get it. But I mean,
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: I think Jonathan Taylor deserves that award as much as anybody.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: I have a I'll be doing like awards. I'll be okay,
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: I'll give my giving my awards. Um in a couple
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: of weeks. PEPs More than likely. Uh, don't look at
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: don't look at my pepsum. He gets a peep. I am,
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: I am really torn for Offensive Player of the Year
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: slash MVP, and it's Jonathan Taylor and Cooper Cup. I
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: don't know. I could definitely be am I coming down
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: to the last game here we tune in, fine out.
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: Don't look at my peeps. Who's the best player in
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: the NFL right now? Best player? Tom Brady? You still
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: think Tom Brady? I kind of do. I don't know.
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: He's hard. It's boy, that's tough. Who do you think
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: will be the number one on that list for that
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: for COCTA NFL network thing again? Yeah, the top one hundred.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: I think Aaron Rodgers was probably Rogers. Yeah? Is he
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: the best player in the NFL? I think he's had
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: the best he might have had the best season. I
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: think he loses points much like Brady used to at
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: times for making it look so easy. Yeah, he does, right,
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: But that's the thing I was gonna say, is it's
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: just so easy for him, and that that's not by chance.
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: You remember when Brady used to like have a game
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: he'd throw for like three fifty and four touchdowns and
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: you're looking, You're like, can you remember like a signature
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: throwing that thing right? And it wasn't one, And then
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: you will like, so that's because it's systematic because he's
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: so good. Yeah. Yeah, do you remember how Green Bay
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: season started? Yeah, that's why I was just saying in
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: Jacksonville to New Orleans, right, weird, weird, and like they
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: got blown out and Rodgers were just like, hey, I
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: don't worry about it, will be I feel like his
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: whole cradle off all these wins. I've been in the
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: same place with Green Bay because I don't really watch them.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: They're an NFC team I usually not tuning in. I
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: see some of the highlights. I hear all year how
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: great Aaron Rodgers is and how great they are, and
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: then they always seem to lose in the playoffs. I
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: just you're a choker kid. Nah, No, I think there
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: is something something weird about that. I always absolutely great,
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: absolutely agree with it, and and listening to Felger talk
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: about it is hilarious because Felger is, well, he's a
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: Packer fan. Yeah, he's he's from He's from Wisconsin. He
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: grew up a Packers fan. He'll tell you that he's
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: one of those shareholders for that nut, that part owner.
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: Thank you. But but but he'll tell you like they
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: have everything. They it's all locked up. They have he's
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: number one seed, MVP Coach of the Year. They will lose,
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: they will lose to someone at home that they shouldn't
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: lose team and he'll tell you that right now. But
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: it also like, I mean, it always seems like or
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: lately he's got like one great player, but that's it,
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: you know, like he doesn't necessarily need to have pretty
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: good he doesn't have a stable of tavern but he doesn't.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to make the argument who's
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: the best receiver in football, Savante Adams might be it. Yeah,
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: I mean he's been the top three anyway. Yeah, but
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: like he doesn't seem to have, you know, this arsenal
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: of weapons. You know, it's just it's him, it's the coach.
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: And as he said, people are coming to Green Bay
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: for the scenery, they're coming to play with me. So
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: here's one one last thing. I know, we're getting close
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: to the end of the show. We're up against it, Paul,
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: as they say, So the schedule is getting finalized for
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: next year, and you know Eric will do what he
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: normally does after the finale. Uh and he'll give you
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: that list on Sunday night on Patriots dot com. We
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: know most of the opponents already there. I believe lined
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: up to play Green Bay next year, correct, Like I
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: think we play the NFC North so and in a
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: stunning development, Fred, they'll play. They'll play the Packers. Aaron
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: Rodgers won't be the quarterback of Green and that'll be
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: Yet Lambeau. Oh yeah, so it would be a tough winner.
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: I mean winning that Lambo is tough always. It's all
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: good though. They got the Bay past in the league, right,
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: but they played Jordan Love Oh oh wait, never minds
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: all right, that's gonna be it for this edition of
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be back tomorrow Wednesday with another edition.
