- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:09Speaker 1: talk about netball. We talk about so much more. But
- 0:11Speaker 1: what we're going to start talking about this week it
- 0:13Speaker 1: is finally on everyone. It is the wing defense Uprising.
- 0:17Speaker 1: It started last Friday with the crowning of Jamie Lee
- 0:21Speaker 1: Price as the Lizzellas Diamond of the Year. Finally, the
- 0:25Speaker 1: hour is ours. I'm Carolyn Swindell, I'm Catcox.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I'm Lizzellis and I've been made to look good by
- 0:30Speaker 2: any number of wing defenses over the years. And Carolyn Swindell,
- 0:33Speaker 2: you can add your names to the bottom of that list,
- 0:36Speaker 2: of that list wherever you want to be.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Well, thank you. I've not never made you look good
- 0:40Speaker 1: on court, but I'll take the compliment anyway. Thank you.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Very exciting though, And the best bit was her face,
- 0:47Speaker 3: Jamie Lee Price, no idea.
- 0:48Speaker 2: No idea, right. So when I went up to I
- 0:52Speaker 2: was standing on the side of the stage before the
- 0:54Speaker 2: award was announced, so they were doing another award first,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and then it was my turn to go up and
- 0:59Speaker 2: announce the win. And when I got handed the envelope,
- 1:03Speaker 2: I could have looked at it and I thought, no, no,
- 1:04Speaker 2: I want to be as surprised as everybody else. So
- 1:07Speaker 2: I got up there and the name was at the
- 1:09Speaker 2: bottom of the card. So I felt like I was
- 1:11Speaker 2: pulling the card out of the envelope for months and
- 1:14Speaker 2: it kept coming. And then I saw Jamie Lee's name,
- 1:19Speaker 2: and I knew where she was. And so the three
- 1:21Speaker 2: finalists were Jamie Lee, Kira Austin, and Kate Mulaney. And
- 1:25Speaker 2: I'd clocked where they all were sitting because I thought,
- 1:27Speaker 2: I want to see their faces when I announce it,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and so I knew where Jamie Lee was. She was
- 1:32Speaker 2: a bit off to my right, and I looked up
- 1:35Speaker 2: and I was so excited for her, because I mean,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I would have been excited for whoever it was, right,
- 1:38Speaker 2: but I was so excited for her. And I said
- 1:41Speaker 2: her name, and the look on her face was, pardon
- 1:44Speaker 2: the pun, priceless. She just was in such shock. Anyway,
- 1:48Speaker 2: I found out later that sometimes the parents fly down,
- 1:51Speaker 2: and so she knew that, and she had looked on
- 1:54Speaker 2: Life three sixty to see her parents where her parents
- 1:56Speaker 2: were because they was still in the Sunshine coach. She
- 1:59Speaker 2: assumed that she wasn't going to win, so she was
- 2:02Speaker 2: just in there, going haha, it's not me. It's not may,
- 2:05Speaker 2: I know. And so when I said her name, it
- 2:07Speaker 2: was even a bigger shock because she'd already decided that
- 2:09Speaker 2: she wasn't going to win it. So it was awesome.
- 2:12Speaker 2: It was such a lovely moment. And she walked up
- 2:15Speaker 2: and she said to me, I've finally got a diamond.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Oh my god, so good. Hey, can you go back
- 2:20Speaker 3: to when you said finalists? So has it changed since
- 2:23Speaker 3: I was last there? Did they do a scoring thing
- 2:26Speaker 3: or something? Now? How did you know there were three finalists?
- 2:29Speaker 2: I just in the lead up, So they didn't do
- 2:31Speaker 2: a scoring thing, a live score or anything like that.
- 2:34Speaker 2: They just said the top three Jamie Lee, Kate Maloney,
- 2:38Speaker 2: Kira Austin.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Okay, gotcha.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It's mongrel that life's three sixty though, isn't it. It's
- 2:44Speaker 1: hard now to surprise people because you've got that. I
- 2:47Speaker 1: use it with my kids and I love it. But
- 2:48Speaker 1: when we went to London in April, we went for
- 2:51Speaker 1: Pete sixtieth and we went over to visit his eldest daughter, Haley,
- 2:55Speaker 1: who lives in London, and obviously the younger kids were
- 2:58Speaker 1: coming with us, and I thought there's five out of
- 3:00Speaker 1: six of us being together. I want to bring my
- 3:02Speaker 1: youngest stepdaughter over to but her sister knows where she
- 3:05Speaker 1: is at all times. So in order to maintain the surprise,
- 3:08Speaker 1: Claire had to turn Life three sixty off like a
- 3:11Speaker 1: month in the past, and she's constantly having fights with
- 3:13Speaker 1: her sister. Who's going, can you turn it back on?
- 3:15Speaker 1: So I know where you are and whether it's a
- 3:17Speaker 1: good time to ring or whatever. So they have to
- 3:19Speaker 1: be You got to be more cunning now with the
- 3:21Speaker 1: Life three sixty.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Yes, it's good.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Though, it's great, it's great, but technology is increasingly ruining
- 3:27Speaker 2: surprises in our lives. Is it It like you can't just
- 3:30Speaker 2: turn up on an ounced somewhere?
- 3:32Speaker 1: And did you see that Black Mirror episode where there
- 3:34Speaker 1: is a mother wanting to keep tabs on her daughter
- 3:36Speaker 1: and all it does is increase your level of anxiety
- 3:39Speaker 1: because it's like you can't possibly know where your kid
- 3:41Speaker 1: is at all times, so you go insane. You can't
- 3:44Speaker 1: you have to. I mean, our parents didn't know where
- 3:46Speaker 1: we were through the eighties and nineties, did that? So
- 3:49Speaker 1: this is where I'm going to tell you that I
- 3:50Speaker 1: am and I will be home at the time that
- 3:52Speaker 1: I said I'm going to but just interesting.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah. So didn't you have times when you're a teenager
- 3:57Speaker 2: where you'd say you're at your best friend's house, they'd
- 4:00Speaker 2: tell their parents, ah, your house, and then you would
- 4:04Speaker 2: be at a different party. I can't believe how many
- 4:07Speaker 2: times I got away with that. All I would have
- 4:08Speaker 2: taken was one phone phone call to a landlink to
- 4:11Speaker 2: work it out, but my parents never thought to ring
- 4:13Speaker 2: because I just trusted you. They just trusted me.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Trust is there until it's not right.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I got caught out big time doing that,
- 4:21Speaker 3: big time, and my sister knew and rang the landline
- 4:25Speaker 3: and was like where I was not where I was
- 4:27Speaker 3: supposed to be obviously, and was like Mum and Dad
- 4:30Speaker 3: know they're coming to get you. Was the scariest thing ever.
- 4:35Speaker 3: But didn't do it again and certainly lost the trust.
- 4:40Speaker 2: No, Katine, I think you were a bit naughtier than
- 4:43Speaker 2: me too, So I can't believe I never got caught.
- 4:46Speaker 3: I wasn't naughty, Elizabeth, I have no idea what you're
- 4:48Speaker 3: talking about.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I reckon you were just cunning years. I'll tell you
- 4:52Speaker 1: what though, I'm quite ashamed of myself this week. So
- 4:54Speaker 1: I think I said last week I was hoping Jamie
- 4:56Speaker 1: Price would win the Lizzella Steinmond but obviously any of
- 4:59Speaker 1: those contenders have been absolutely a deserving winner. And I've
- 5:03Speaker 1: been a big Jamie Lee Price fan for quite some
- 5:05Speaker 1: time and pay attention to the wing defenses. I'm also
- 5:08Speaker 1: a Queenslander when it comes to rugby league, even though
- 5:11Speaker 1: I will never live there again because it's like living
- 5:13Speaker 1: on the sun. And I've lived in New South Wales
- 5:16Speaker 1: for twenty odd years now and love it. But I
- 5:19Speaker 1: did not know until last week that Jamie Lee Price's
- 5:23Speaker 1: dad is Steve Price, and it's like, oh, I should
- 5:25Speaker 1: have my Queensland State of Origin credentials stripped from him.
- 5:29Speaker 2: You should.
- 5:30Speaker 1: That's disgraceful.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why he didn't come down because he's like,
- 5:33Speaker 3: oh please.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Well and her brother, her brother is quite a high
- 5:37Speaker 1: level AFL player too, isn't. Oh they're just all in
- 5:39Speaker 1: so they have just endless sporting accolades.
- 5:42Speaker 2: No. No, her brother made his debut this year for
- 5:44Speaker 2: Penrith Oh Okay Rugby League, and her boyfriend plays the
- 5:48Speaker 2: boyfriend's AFL. But yeah, so let me tell you a
- 5:51Speaker 2: little story about Jamie Lee Price at the two thousand
- 5:53Speaker 2: and seven World Cup in Auckland and Steve Price, her
- 5:57Speaker 2: dad was playing for the Warriors at that point, and
- 6:00Speaker 2: so she was a little kid. She was I don't
- 6:03Speaker 2: know how that was seven years ago, so it had
- 6:06Speaker 2: been eleven or twelve, And when we went to do
- 6:09Speaker 2: the opening ceremony. At the opening ceremony, it was just
- 6:11Speaker 2: the captains of each team that marched around the stadium
- 6:15Speaker 2: and there was a kid who was the flag bearer anyway,
- 6:18Speaker 2: the flag bearer for the two thousand and seven World
- 6:21Speaker 2: Cup for the opening ceremony for Australia was Jamie Lee Price.
- 6:24Speaker 2: So I've got a photo of a beautiful little eleven
- 6:29Speaker 2: here old Jamie Lee holding the flag. And she'd started
- 6:33Speaker 2: to play netball in Auckland, obviously, and I was talking
- 6:37Speaker 2: to her and she was telling me how much she
- 6:38Speaker 2: loved the silver ferns. I said, but were you born
- 6:40Speaker 2: in Australia and she said yeah, And I said, well
- 6:43Speaker 2: when you grow up, you have to play for the diamonds.
- 6:45Speaker 2: And she was a bit torn. And so we had
- 6:47Speaker 2: this whole conversation about and you absolutely have to play
- 6:51Speaker 2: for the diamonds. You cannot play for the silver ferns.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So I'd like to take a little bit of credit
- 6:56Speaker 2: for that fall.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I want to give you a lot of credit for that,
- 6:59Speaker 1: Thank you very much.
- 7:00Speaker 3: What a crazy moment though, If you could look into
- 7:03Speaker 3: your crystal ball and then see Jamie Lee excepting the
- 7:06Speaker 3: Lizella's diamond these years later, that's crazy.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And it's funny. Actually, I must dig out that photo
- 7:13Speaker 2: on the dribbler page. It's really cute. She's beautiful, I mean,
- 7:17Speaker 2: she's beautiful now.
- 7:17Speaker 3: How it started and how it's going now.
- 7:20Speaker 1: There was a lot of mention of Jamie Lee Price
- 7:23Speaker 1: in the New Zealand commentary about how Jamie Lee Price
- 7:27Speaker 1: started her netball career in New Zealand. So I think
- 7:30Speaker 1: that is definitely one that got away for them and
- 7:33Speaker 1: they are regretted something I really I just learned in
- 7:37Speaker 1: the commentary too. So we talked a lot about Shelley
- 7:40Speaker 1: o'donald and Hannah Mundy being the first mother daughter diamonds too.
- 7:44Speaker 1: So the hefen And sisters, their mother and her sister
- 7:49Speaker 1: both played for the Ferns.
- 7:50Speaker 3: They were the first mother, sorry, first sisters to ever
- 7:53Speaker 3: play for the Ferns. And it's crazy because the New
- 7:56Speaker 3: Zealand Australian thing is quite different. So Illustrata have quite
- 8:01Speaker 3: a few mother daughter combos to have already played, but
- 8:04Speaker 3: not as many sisters. Well, we have more sisters and
- 8:07Speaker 3: have only just ticked over our first mother daughter combo
- 8:09Speaker 3: with Shelley and Hannah, which is really fascinating, isn't it. Yeah?
- 8:13Speaker 2: So who was the other one? There was Blinda Chatteris
- 8:16Speaker 2: was that her name? She was a defender, Her mum
- 8:18Speaker 2: played for the and she was my sort of era
- 8:21Speaker 2: and her mum played. So I feel like there was
- 8:23Speaker 2: always lots of talk about mother daughters. But you're right, sisters,
- 8:26Speaker 2: that's fascinating.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Yeah. And so they're in their family, four of them.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And we played with the Vmberdo sisters in that two
- 8:32Speaker 2: thousand and seven World Cup final.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah, but how's that they ticked both boxes?
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yeah? No, crazy, crazy, crazy successful family. And of course
- 8:39Speaker 3: she played cricket for New Zealand as well, Kate. So
- 8:42Speaker 3: they're such a spawty family. Amazing enough of the overachieving
- 8:46Speaker 3: do we go into that fourth Test?
- 8:47Speaker 2: Now?
- 8:47Speaker 3: Then now we're talking about it, it was it was
- 8:51Speaker 3: like how good? No all I desperately wanted casinased decide
- 8:57Speaker 3: of time. It was good until we got there and
- 9:00Speaker 3: then it was. It was really hard to kind of
- 9:03Speaker 3: put that aside and then move on. And even listening
- 9:06Speaker 3: to Liz Watson at the end of the game, you
- 9:08Speaker 3: could clearly tell she wasn't a fan of the way
- 9:10Speaker 3: it had all played out. And you've got to feel
- 9:12Speaker 3: for New Zealand in that moment too, because they probably
- 9:15Speaker 3: deserved to celebrate that fourth test win. It was a
- 9:19Speaker 3: big deal, like to get the two wins over there,
- 9:21Speaker 3: but they quickly had to switch into next minute and
- 9:24Speaker 3: then to lose it in such close fashion was crazy.
- 9:28Speaker 3: And then obviously Sunday, a lot a lot went on
- 9:30Speaker 3: in a very short space of time. And I love
- 9:34Speaker 3: that we had it decided, but I wonder if now
- 9:37Speaker 3: we're better off to have either three tests or five
- 9:39Speaker 3: tests and get it done clearly. Yeahs five, Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 2: You gonna have five in Australia, two in New Zealand.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I know, scissors, paper rock or take it.
- 9:51Speaker 1: What about on a cruise ship halfway between New Zealand
- 9:54Speaker 1: and Australia.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Great idea.
- 9:56Speaker 2: What about on Hamilton Island?
- 9:58Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I'm pushing for I do not I'm not
- 10:02Speaker 1: I'm not a paid employee of Hambleton Island Promotions.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Just really would like there to be some net But
- 10:07Speaker 3: it would make a difference, wouldn't it. Because we saw
- 10:09Speaker 3: two wins for Australia at home, two wins for New
- 10:11Speaker 3: Zealand and New Zealand, so whether the Fifth Test is
- 10:13Speaker 3: played is very important in the scheme of things. But God,
- 10:18Speaker 3: what an ending, so good and then one goal in
- 10:21Speaker 3: the dying seconds, which I knew it didn't think we're
- 10:23Speaker 3: going to get. For a minute there I was having
- 10:25Speaker 3: heart palpatae.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I was really angry with you, Catherine.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Well, what would you have liked to have happened? Us
- 10:31Speaker 3: to have just won the fourth Test.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And the third? No, I would on the third Test,
- 10:38Speaker 1: and then New Zealand have won the fourth Test?
- 10:40Speaker 3: Okay, all right, well I can't control that.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I think you're controlling the netble universe with your mind
- 10:46Speaker 1: and you need to use that for good evil.
- 10:49Speaker 3: All right, sorry everybody, if I put you through the.
- 10:50Speaker 2: R I was a fan of the I was a
- 10:53Speaker 2: fan of the extra time until we won the first
- 10:56Speaker 2: two tests by seven a piece, and I'm like, why
- 10:58Speaker 2: don't we just stick with what we going to do
- 11:00Speaker 2: because once you win, we got a thirty four goal difference.
- 11:05Speaker 2: No one's going to run that down. So anyway, hindsight's
- 11:07Speaker 2: a magnificent things.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So it was originally going to be the sort of
- 11:10Speaker 1: aggregative goals across the season and whoever got the most goals. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: was that last year? Even was it as recently.
- 11:17Speaker 3: They brought in series decided time last year from memory,
- 11:20Speaker 3: but we didn't need it. Zealand one three.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I just I think it's so hard on those young
- 11:26Speaker 1: women playing that extra time and it's just yeah, and
- 11:30Speaker 1: you know, we saw what happened.
- 11:32Speaker 2: It's like, it is hard, but it's not like Catherine
- 11:36Speaker 2: and I have both played in games that have gone
- 11:38Speaker 2: to extra time and double extra time and doing that
- 11:42Speaker 2: in a Test series, putting aside the injury to Sunday,
- 11:45Speaker 2: had that not happened, you would have walked away and
- 11:47Speaker 2: gone that is such great prep or a couple walth
- 11:51Speaker 2: games or a World Cup. When the first time we
- 11:54Speaker 2: played double extra time was in Manchester in two thousand
- 11:58Speaker 2: and two in that gold medal final, and I'm gonna
- 12:01Speaker 2: be honest, we had no idea what was going on right, right,
- 12:04Speaker 2: so we played and was even at the end of
- 12:06Speaker 2: the match and we knew then extra time was two
- 12:10Speaker 2: seven minute halves. But then when we got to the
- 12:12Speaker 2: end of extra time, the only way you knew it
- 12:14Speaker 2: was going straight into extra time. The match doesn't stop,
- 12:17Speaker 2: it keeps going. But a little flag got raised on
- 12:20Speaker 2: the school on the school bench, right, so but none
- 12:23Speaker 2: of us knew to look for that flag, so.
- 12:25Speaker 1: We will the flag signify.
- 12:27Speaker 2: If the flag goes up, it means you've gone into
- 12:29Speaker 2: double extra time. It means that the scores were even
- 12:32Speaker 2: at the end of extra time and the game just
- 12:34Speaker 2: keeps going. So rather than them calling we still have
- 12:38Speaker 2: a drink, No, none of us keep going. You keep going.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And this is international rules, right, So we didn't know.
- 12:45Speaker 2: So we spent the next thirty seconds looking at our
- 12:48Speaker 2: bench and Coxy had scored this amazing long range shot
- 12:53Speaker 2: that I thought went in before before the end of
- 12:56Speaker 2: extra time, but the umpire ruled it like extra time
- 13:00Speaker 2: and finish and we're into extra time, so I thought
- 13:01Speaker 2: wed one and we and there was do you remember, Catherine,
- 13:05Speaker 2: It was so czing, and I remember our bench screaming
- 13:07Speaker 2: at us two to two, which meant we had to
- 13:10Speaker 2: win by two. And you go into these things and
- 13:12Speaker 2: you're so prepped, but none of us have prepped what
- 13:15Speaker 2: to do for extra time. So yeah, like we had
- 13:19Speaker 2: this massive burst of adrenaline, but we just kept going.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And then if you go forward to Deli in twenty ten,
- 13:25Speaker 2: so Luke Darcon and I were commentating and I'd said
- 13:27Speaker 2: to him all a week, I reckon, this is this
- 13:29Speaker 2: isn't a going to extra time. We are going to
- 13:31Speaker 2: sit and get very clear and speak to the bench
- 13:34Speaker 2: visuals and understand when the flag goes up so that
- 13:37Speaker 2: we know so that we can do justice in commentary
- 13:40Speaker 2: and Catherine playing and it's just a different It's it
- 13:44Speaker 2: becomes completely a mental game at that point, does.
- 13:46Speaker 3: It not, And particularly for Australia to go from losing
- 13:51Speaker 3: that fourth Test into this effectively the fifth game. They'd
- 13:56Speaker 3: lost that last quarter nineteen to eleven. Astralia that only
- 14:00Speaker 3: scored eleven, so they had to have had twelve minute
- 14:03Speaker 3: turnaround where they had to completely put that out of
- 14:05Speaker 3: their minds and come out and perform a lot better
- 14:08Speaker 3: than eleven goals to win the series. And that's that pressure,
- 14:12Speaker 3: that's those moments that really matter at where you've got
- 14:14Speaker 3: to pull your finger out and make it happen. And
- 14:16Speaker 3: they did exactly that not.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Only the nineteen to eleven thing, but they had not
- 14:20Speaker 1: won in New Zealand for how long? For nine tests
- 14:23Speaker 1: or something like that. You know that, who do hangar?
- 14:26Speaker 1: Did they take their foot off the pedal towards the
- 14:28Speaker 1: back end of that fourth quarter knowing well this is gone.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Yeah potentially, And we saw some people go to the
- 14:34Speaker 3: bench as well, and there was talk around you know,
- 14:36Speaker 3: they're thinking ahead.
- 14:37Speaker 1: To the extra time. I don't think it's really smart.
- 14:39Speaker 3: I mean two minutes is going to make absolutely no
- 14:42Speaker 3: difference though, so I thought that was a bit of
- 14:43Speaker 3: a stretch. But I mean that's obviously what was happening
- 14:46Speaker 3: to a point. Do you know what's funny though, when
- 14:48Speaker 3: we're doing a prep for these games, there's only been
- 14:52Speaker 3: four draws between Australia and New Zealand that have gone
- 14:56Speaker 3: into extra time four times. Wow, And I thought there's
- 14:59Speaker 3: no way in the world. Well, that's got to be inaccurate,
- 15:01Speaker 3: because I feel like every time I played a game
- 15:03Speaker 3: it went into extreme and the dates of those four
- 15:06Speaker 3: games list we played in them all. That's why, Yes,
- 15:12Speaker 3: that's why it felt like there was I fell, we
- 15:14Speaker 3: drew a lot. Yes, Well, it's because we were in
- 15:16Speaker 3: all four of them crazy.
- 15:19Speaker 2: It's obviously my fault.
- 15:20Speaker 3: But obviously the most gut wrenching part of that, of
- 15:23Speaker 3: course was Sunday Ryan and the injury at the end.
- 15:27Speaker 3: But what a like a brave, gutsy move that she
- 15:30Speaker 3: had to put on right at the end to stop
- 15:31Speaker 3: that ball getting a waki because it was time for
- 15:33Speaker 3: her to score there, and she did that cleanly, stops
- 15:36Speaker 3: the ball and then sadly down you know and doing
- 15:39Speaker 3: her knee. But it's been really interesting, I think the
- 15:42Speaker 3: follow up to that, because our Facebook page been asking
- 15:45Speaker 3: lots of questions around what does that mean for obviously
- 15:50Speaker 3: the Diamonds, what does it mean for the West Coast
- 15:52Speaker 3: fever they've now lost her for next year? And then
- 15:55Speaker 3: who pays for her recovery? Which I thought was a
- 15:57Speaker 3: very very interesting question which I didn't know the answer too.
- 16:00Speaker 3: It's not our area of expertise, so I thought we
- 16:04Speaker 3: should phone a friend and ask and ask this question
- 16:06Speaker 3: because I would really like to know too.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Well, here's a giant rotary phone that I've sourced for
- 16:11Speaker 1: this exact purpose, so you can call.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Someone, Okay, I reckon we ring. Julie Fitzgerald, a true fact,
- 16:17Speaker 3: she's been around the longest You'll know. Surely I was.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Hanging with Julie Fitzgerald on Saturday night. I was hanging
- 16:22Speaker 1: with the cool kids, Julie and Brian e Akle. And yeah,
- 16:25Speaker 1: because big shock, I didn't get Coach of the Year
- 16:28Speaker 1: at Netborn, New South Wales Awards on Saturday night.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Should we stop that though, and ring Julie first.
- 16:34Speaker 1: If you want to talk to a coach of higher
- 16:37Speaker 1: qualification's sure, Oh.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Julie Fitzgerald, we've got up now. We have a few
- 16:50Speaker 3: questions from our not Driable Facebook page and we thought
- 16:54Speaker 3: one of them we need to bring in the big
- 16:56Speaker 3: guns for and we thought, why not the most experienced
- 16:59Speaker 3: coach in the competition, who would know all the ins
- 17:01Speaker 3: and outs of everything. So this one was around Sunday
- 17:05Speaker 3: Ariyan's injury at the end of the game in the
- 17:08Speaker 3: extra time. So obviously that injury happened on Diamonds Watch,
- 17:12Speaker 3: but we have some interest around what that then means
- 17:15Speaker 3: for the fever, who pays for her rehab, and how
- 17:20Speaker 3: all that then works going forward, and does Sunday get
- 17:23Speaker 3: paid if she's not playing anymore, and how that works
- 17:26Speaker 3: and who's responsible. So if you could give us some clarification,
- 17:28Speaker 3: they'd be amazing.
- 17:30Speaker 4: As far as I know. Because she was injured playing
- 17:32Speaker 4: for the Diamonds, the Diamonds will cover the cost of
- 17:34Speaker 4: her surgery and her rehab and everything like that. But
- 17:37Speaker 4: in saying that she'll have the surgery in Perth, she'll
- 17:40Speaker 4: probably do all of her rehab through the Fever system
- 17:43Speaker 4: and she will continue to be paid because she would
- 17:45Speaker 4: have been a contracted player for Fever, so until she returns,
- 17:49Speaker 4: her contract will be covered, but it's covered by insurance.
- 17:52Speaker 3: So Fever now have the right.
- 17:54Speaker 4: To replace her to a player paid up to the
- 17:56Speaker 4: amount that Sunday was paid. So that's how it works.
- 18:00Speaker 4: She will continue to be paid on her Fever contract.
- 18:02Speaker 4: I imagine if there's any money left going on the
- 18:05Speaker 4: Diamonds contract that that would still stand as well, and
- 18:08Speaker 4: Diamonds will pay for the operation and any rehab costs
- 18:11Speaker 4: that Fever can't cover.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Okay, So can you just explain around the player that
- 18:14Speaker 3: comes in to replace her and they will be paid
- 18:17Speaker 3: up to what did you say what Sunday was getting paid.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Yes, you can't bring someone in and pay them more,
- 18:22Speaker 4: but you can bring someone in and pay them up
- 18:23Speaker 4: to the amount that Sunday was paid, because otherwise it
- 18:26Speaker 4: wouldn't fit in the salary cap. So if she was
- 18:28Speaker 4: on ten dollars, you can bring in a player that's
- 18:30Speaker 4: paid up to ten dollars.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Oh, there you go. Well that was all very simple.
- 18:33Speaker 3: I'm glad we called in the big guns to clarify it.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Oh well, thank you, Julie Fitzgerald. Well we'll leave that
- 18:39Speaker 3: to you to go and enjoy the rest of your
- 18:41Speaker 3: retirement now, because how annoying that we've rung you up
- 18:44Speaker 3: and asked you a network question.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Call me any time, thanks to yours. All right, Well,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I guess she does know a thing.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Or two about fascinating coaching, really interesting. So there you go, dribblers,
- 18:55Speaker 3: you're welcome. You know.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I saw Sunday on Friday night at the Netball Australia Awards.
- 19:00Speaker 2: She was there on her crutches and I said to her,
- 19:02Speaker 2: you know, there's still plenty of time to come back
- 19:04Speaker 2: for a couple of games, because everyone's telling her like, yeah,
- 19:07Speaker 2: nine months, it's a long while. I'm like I was
- 19:09Speaker 2: back in six I was an idiot, but please feel
- 19:11Speaker 2: free to be an idiot as well. We loved to
- 19:13Speaker 2: have you back? She just sort of looked at me,
- 19:16Speaker 2: and I thought, right now, I shouldn't stop talking now.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Well, I actually think so. I can only speak from
- 19:21Speaker 1: my very low level CrossFit competitive career. But like when
- 19:24Speaker 1: people tell me a miniscous tear that yep, you can
- 19:27Speaker 1: come back and do stuff and it's only twelve months away,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I go, that makes me feel good. So ill she
- 19:34Speaker 1: won't go. Oh, Lizzellas said, you know, do this and
- 19:37Speaker 1: override all the medical advice, but it will inspire, right,
- 19:40Speaker 1: it will. It will remind her that, you know, these
- 19:43Speaker 1: recovery rates, it's a bell curve thing. They go, most
- 19:46Speaker 1: people fall in here, and it's like, well, that means
- 19:48Speaker 1: that people who are faster and people who are slower
- 19:50Speaker 1: so and the people who work very hard like Sunday
- 19:52Speaker 1: Arian and Lizellis can probably be in the faster category.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Will you back fully fit and on court and playing
- 19:58Speaker 3: by then six months?
- 20:00Speaker 2: I came back and played for the Swifts in round
- 20:03Speaker 2: one in two thousand and six and it was like
- 20:08Speaker 2: six months and twos.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Yeah, she'd piss it in at that rate, but well,
- 20:13Speaker 3: I did that a bit against medical advice, but I
- 20:15Speaker 3: just felt I felt like I'd done enough work.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And you know what the biggest thing is. It's not physical,
- 20:21Speaker 2: it's mental.
- 20:22Speaker 1: The hardest thing is to get horrified.
- 20:24Speaker 2: And yeah and do do exactly the move that you
- 20:28Speaker 2: did when you did your knee. That's the hardest thing.
- 20:32Speaker 2: And so Broadbent, who has done her knee, had done
- 20:36Speaker 2: her knee twice, said to me, you just have to
- 20:39Speaker 2: keep telling yourself that everything you do for six months
- 20:42Speaker 2: is making your knee stronger. So I just every day
- 20:45Speaker 2: making my knee stronger. I'm making my knee stronger. I'm
- 20:47Speaker 2: making my kney stronger. And so by the time I
- 20:49Speaker 2: went on Caught, I had convinced myself that my knee
- 20:52Speaker 2: was strong enough. It's completely mental.
- 20:55Speaker 3: And that your knee is generally stronger, isn't it. When
- 20:58Speaker 3: you do your aco and you do you rehabit stronger
- 21:00Speaker 3: than the other one, right.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Because you do all your rehab on that side. I mean,
- 21:04Speaker 2: if your smart should do your rehab on both sides,
- 21:06Speaker 2: regardless of your knee. And now in retirement, my right
- 21:09Speaker 2: knee is actually in better shape than my left knee.
- 21:11Speaker 2: So my right knee was the one that I got reconstructed.
- 21:14Speaker 2: It's in better shape than my left neck.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Okay, well fingers crossed then for her that she can
- 21:18Speaker 3: get back.
- 21:19Speaker 1: So it's the newest fair part installed, isn't it.
- 21:21Speaker 2: It's not original?
- 21:26Speaker 3: Oh where would you put the new parts? If you
- 21:27Speaker 3: could have your pick of them. There's a whole list.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Absolutely, it's not so much new parts that I want installed,
- 21:35Speaker 1: just like some sort of twist on the back of
- 21:36Speaker 1: my head that I can tighten the skin up or something,
- 21:39Speaker 1: you know, like how can I make this ponytail.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Tighter like a corset? You wanted to get back there
- 21:44Speaker 3: and pull your skin together?
- 21:45Speaker 1: And I don't remember. Yes, I was telling us last
- 21:48Speaker 1: year that when she when she bleaches her hair, it
- 21:50Speaker 1: sort of makes her face feel taught for a couple
- 21:52Speaker 1: of days. And so I don't think I can pull
- 21:54Speaker 1: off the bleach blonde hair.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Give me great, sorry, give it a crack. He'll be
- 22:00Speaker 3: on it in my crack. People do that too. Were
- 22:06Speaker 3: power to you.
- 22:08Speaker 2: But imagine if you had a big crocodile clips. Imagine
- 22:11Speaker 2: if you had a big claw clip that actually was
- 22:12Speaker 2: for your skin. You just pull up the skin on
- 22:14Speaker 2: your neck and on your face and click.
- 22:16Speaker 3: You don't joke, they have those.
- 22:18Speaker 2: You're perfect, Yes, stop it they do.
- 22:21Speaker 3: They have those clip things that I like your hair
- 22:24Speaker 3: behind you your head and pulls everything tight.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Oh it must be so uncomfortable.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Well do we discust it ever get in the way
- 22:33Speaker 3: of our choices with fashion?
- 22:34Speaker 1: I'd like to talk about a certain beauty ritual. You've
- 22:38Speaker 1: been through. Your nails look great?
- 22:40Speaker 3: I was a horrendous blood red yeah yeah yeah for Halloween?
- 22:44Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 22:45Speaker 2: So good.
- 22:45Speaker 1: How was your Halloween?
- 22:46Speaker 3: It was good until I had to wake up with
- 22:48Speaker 3: a hangover on Saturday morning. It was great fun. Actually,
- 22:53Speaker 3: I have super anxiety until we get the kids home
- 22:57Speaker 3: from trick or trading, though, because around my air it's
- 23:00Speaker 3: so busy and there's traffic, they're busy roads, and the
- 23:04Speaker 3: kids are all so excited that they run and you
- 23:07Speaker 3: can't stop them with as much as you give them
- 23:09Speaker 3: the lecture and be sensible to slow down. We know
- 23:11Speaker 3: you're excited, blah blah blah. He can't and they so
- 23:14Speaker 3: they're running along the roads and they're crossing roads without looking.
- 23:17Speaker 3: And I'm just not a heightened level of anxiety the
- 23:20Speaker 3: entire time.
- 23:20Speaker 1: So when we get home, it's like, did you take
- 23:24Speaker 1: the champagne glass that I gave you for your birthday,
- 23:26Speaker 1: which was.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Oh no, no, because it's been sent north for Christmas. Yes,
- 23:32Speaker 3: that's got special place.
- 23:33Speaker 1: So Liz I was so thrilled to find this thing.
- 23:35Speaker 1: It's an insulated champagne glass, so you know your insulated
- 23:39Speaker 1: reusable coffee cups. It's like that, but it's in the
- 23:42Speaker 1: shape of a champagne flute. And I thought, well, that
- 23:45Speaker 1: looks like someone will need that for her Halloween.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Husky, is it the brand?
- 23:49Speaker 1: Sorry, Husky, can't remember.
- 23:51Speaker 3: That's one of those good ones. Yeah. No, no, it's
- 23:53Speaker 3: gone north, so but we will keep But no. It
- 23:55Speaker 3: was so much fun. The kids got so many lollies,
- 23:58Speaker 3: and the neighborhood where we were went crazy with all
- 24:02Speaker 3: the houses, which was awesome. And then they all came
- 24:05Speaker 3: home and died in a heat, had pizza and died.
- 24:07Speaker 3: They were literally just ran out of energy. It was
- 24:10Speaker 3: great fun, wowed.
- 24:11Speaker 2: So they didn't get like the sugar buzz from all
- 24:14Speaker 2: the chocolates and lollies and my kids they still experiencing.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Oh really, no, I mean they all get so excited
- 24:20Speaker 3: about collecting them. I don't have any other people's kids,
- 24:22Speaker 3: but Harpa doesn't eat them. She wants to collect them.
- 24:25Speaker 3: All and she's had the mountain on the carpet at
- 24:27Speaker 3: home and been going through them and putting them into
- 24:29Speaker 3: the piles and stuff. But she's not eaten one. She's
- 24:31Speaker 3: got no interest in eating them.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Yeah. No, that's a bit different to the experience with
- 24:36Speaker 1: my children. Yeah. And we had a family movie night
- 24:40Speaker 1: on Friday night for Halloween, and we introduced the kids
- 24:44Speaker 1: to The Lost Boys. Do you remember that movie from us?
- 24:46Speaker 1: Keifer Sutherland and keep so Good?
- 24:49Speaker 3: And then of course.
- 24:50Speaker 1: They're so skeptical because it's as if you're going to
- 24:52Speaker 1: know a movie that we've never heard of that's any
- 24:54Speaker 1: good and we all love it was a great Halloween
- 24:57Speaker 1: movie because it's just it's just a bit scary and
- 25:00Speaker 1: it's it's very funny, but it's in that No. Keifer
- 25:05Speaker 1: Sutherland and either Bill or Ted from Bill or Ted's
- 25:09Speaker 1: Excellent Adventure was in it. And the Cory's Corey Haim,
- 25:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Corey Felman. Yeah, and they were hilarious.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Coo Felman.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Wow, right, I don't think I've seen that you'd like it? Yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 3: I must get back on board. I don't think so
- 25:29Speaker 3: I know what it is because it was all the
- 25:30Speaker 3: rave back in the day, but I don't think I've
- 25:32Speaker 3: actually sat down and watched it.
- 25:33Speaker 1: It's time, Catherine.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Did your kids like it? Carolyn?
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah, loved it, But still now it's still like, well,
- 25:39Speaker 1: can we recommend other movies?
- 25:41Speaker 2: No?
- 25:41Speaker 1: You people don't know anything so rewarding people.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Stranger.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Yeah, but something exciting happened for the podcast last week too,
- 26:10Speaker 1: so I went to well so couldn't have been more
- 26:14Speaker 1: annoying timing actually, because it was I missed the beginning
- 26:17Speaker 1: of the Test match because I was in at the
- 26:20Speaker 1: ARN upfront. So ARN being Australian radio network and they
- 26:25Speaker 1: are affiliated with the iHeartRadio network, and they announced last
- 26:28Speaker 1: Wednesday the iHeart Women's Sport podcast Network, of which a
- 26:34Speaker 1: certain netball related podcast where we talk about netball, what
- 26:38Speaker 1: we talk about so much more is actually really their
- 26:41Speaker 1: lead podcast on this I went to a thing at
- 26:44Speaker 1: star I don't know if it's a casino anymore. I
- 26:47Speaker 1: can't keep track of where casinos are in Sydney anymore.
- 26:50Speaker 1: But at Star City there a huge screen and there
- 26:54Speaker 1: was Elizabeth Ellis giving us some inspiring words in her
- 26:58Speaker 1: lovely orange suit, which we put a little bit of
- 27:00Speaker 1: a teaser on the Facebook group last week. But it's
- 27:03Speaker 1: really exciting for us. No change. Obviously we're still available
- 27:06Speaker 1: on the same platforms, but hoping to get to get
- 27:09Speaker 1: to a larger audience and really exciting to be part
- 27:12Speaker 1: of this. Iheartwomen's sports podcast network.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Yes, so exciting and thank you for all the well
- 27:18Speaker 3: wishes everybody on our Facebook page as well.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Yes, it also includes Chloe Dalton's The Female Athlete Project,
- 27:24Speaker 1: which is the Hopefully everyone got their votes in for
- 27:27Speaker 1: you last week.
- 27:28Speaker 3: We shall see what shall see? Hey, now tell us
- 27:31Speaker 3: you had a special evening on Saturday Night yourself Friday.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Night Saturday and Saturday Night Saturday.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Gosh, yeah, how'd you.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Go the netballne New South Wales Night of Nights?
- 27:40Speaker 3: It was great?
- 27:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I am seed that I had a lot of fun,
- 27:43Speaker 1: met a lot of dribblers which was very fun. Yes,
- 27:45Speaker 1: so I met Aaron O'Brien. Oh yeah, whose mother, Jeanette
- 27:50Speaker 1: is a dribbler as we know. And I had to
- 27:53Speaker 1: correct both Aaron and Paige. So Paige Hadley won the
- 27:57Speaker 1: Swift of the Year and Aaron won the Giants Player
- 28:00Speaker 1: of the Year. And we're talking about their history coming
- 28:03Speaker 1: up through their various clubs and things and and said, mummy,
- 28:06Speaker 1: mom plays, but just walking netball. And then I pointed
- 28:09Speaker 1: out that walking netball is netball. I mean, if net
- 28:13Speaker 1: set goes netball, then walking netball is netball. Right, It's
- 28:16Speaker 1: it's okay, it's not super netball. But then Page got
- 28:20Speaker 1: up and I also had to correct her on the
- 28:23Speaker 1: walking netball front. It's like, look, I'm going to stand
- 28:25Speaker 1: behind my behind my mature peeps here and defend walking netball.
- 28:29Speaker 1: But it was such a it was such a fun night,
- 28:31Speaker 1: and so many fantastic awards. Liz Ballad and Netball Association
- 28:36Speaker 1: on the Community Excellence Award.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Oh well, yes I saw that. And so Kelly Walker
- 28:43Speaker 2: as the president of Netball, it's just done an absolutely
- 28:46Speaker 2: terrific job. But can you imagine so her daughter and
- 28:48Speaker 2: my daughter are in the team that I coach. Imagine
- 28:51Speaker 2: being a kid and having the local president and the
- 28:54Speaker 2: national chair as parents in your team. Those kids, I mean,
- 28:58Speaker 2: they'll be traumatized for her, but on the upside, they'll
- 29:01Speaker 2: have something to talk to their therapists about because they
- 29:03Speaker 2: get a pretty good run.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Otherwise, I was going to say, I don't think they'll
- 29:06Speaker 3: be traumatized, and we loving themselves.
- 29:09Speaker 2: I don't know about that, but anyway, they Kelly had
- 29:11Speaker 2: to do an interview with the local levision app NBN
- 29:14Speaker 2: on Saturday and she was she sent to me a message,
- 29:17Speaker 2: I don't know how you do it. I was like, Kelly,
- 29:18Speaker 2: I don't know how you wrangle the whole local net association.
- 29:21Speaker 2: So there we go. But you know, I think it's
- 29:24Speaker 2: I love that those awards get presented because the lifeblood
- 29:27Speaker 2: of our game the largely women and some men who
- 29:30Speaker 2: run it at that local level. So it was fabulous.
- 29:33Speaker 2: But big weekend for Page then, so she's had she
- 29:35Speaker 2: had a couple of awards, so Swift of the Year
- 29:38Speaker 2: in Netborn New South Wales in it. But she was
- 29:40Speaker 2: allays named in the Team Super Netball Team of the
- 29:44Speaker 2: Year the Netball australianner and it was lovely to see
- 29:47Speaker 2: her up there with a little baby bump. But I
- 29:49Speaker 2: just want to go back to the Netball Australian because
- 29:51Speaker 2: something that we didn't talk about earlier was Janille Fowler.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Nemma got named as a Super netbaw Player of the
- 29:58Speaker 2: Year and I quite think enough has been made of this,
- 30:01Speaker 2: like it's amazing enough that she has won it six times.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Six times in a row, win six times.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but to win it this year off the back
- 30:11Speaker 2: of missing the first few games of the season and
- 30:14Speaker 2: losing a pregnancy, yep. I absolutely. I think it's one
- 30:20Speaker 2: of the most phenomenal sports stories all here the year,
- 30:23Speaker 2: And I please it might be taked bad enough, and
- 30:26Speaker 2: we all sort of take it for granted a bit
- 30:27Speaker 2: because she's so good and she's so dominant and you
- 30:30Speaker 2: know talk. But I sat there and I just shook
- 30:33Speaker 2: my head. I thought there wouldn't be there would have
- 30:36Speaker 2: been another athlete in the world who this year has
- 30:41Speaker 2: gone through so much trauma and turned it around and
- 30:44Speaker 2: had one of the best seasons of her career. And
- 30:47Speaker 2: I think, yeah, we probably should sort of pay a
- 30:49Speaker 2: bit of tribute to her because and she wasn't there.
- 30:52Speaker 2: A lot of the chickens are at home and having
- 30:56Speaker 2: some well deserved time off. But I just think I
- 30:58Speaker 2: think she's amazing. Well probably she's the sort of she's
- 31:02Speaker 2: so under sort of underplays herself a bit, and like,
- 31:06Speaker 2: just that dominance is just phenomenal, So I say, unto her, I.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Agree, And I love that she's still actually being recognized
- 31:14Speaker 3: as a deserving winner of this award because you know,
- 31:16Speaker 3: sometimes some people win it all the time, like, Okay,
- 31:18Speaker 3: they've won it enough, but I think, you know, the
- 31:21Speaker 3: scoring really reflects how brilliant she is every single week,
- 31:25Speaker 3: and she has to win it every year because she's outstanding.
- 31:28Speaker 3: But let's go back to that Team of the Year
- 31:30Speaker 3: is just to remind people. So Janille Fallon, Emma the shooter,
- 31:34Speaker 3: Kira Austin was the goal attack, Alice Teag kneeled wing attack,
- 31:37Speaker 3: Paige Hardley the Santa As you mentioned, Amy Sliger was
- 31:41Speaker 3: the wing de fan. How great is that? Amy Catherine Slager?
- 31:45Speaker 3: Let me just remind everybody. Latangna Wilson golder fans. And
- 31:49Speaker 3: then tigan O'shannessy from Swiss as a keeper. Yeah amazing
- 31:55Speaker 3: because she was not on court for most minutes of
- 31:58Speaker 3: most games, so.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Clearly, but when she came on court, she had enormous impact.
- 32:03Speaker 1: High impact. Yeah, So how are these how are these decided?
- 32:06Speaker 3: And this is another thing we need to talk about
- 32:08Speaker 3: because this was also a question asked. I think a
- 32:10Speaker 3: lot of people thought the Lizzellis Diamond could have gone
- 32:14Speaker 3: to any number of players, and it could have. I mean,
- 32:16Speaker 3: how great was our season this year? Everybody was playing
- 32:20Speaker 3: out of their skin. But to remind everybody, there is
- 32:24Speaker 3: an official group of people.
- 32:26Speaker 2: There's a panel, so they've all Australia at the start
- 32:29Speaker 2: of every year a point a panel of people who
- 32:31Speaker 2: and they make sure that one or two people go
- 32:34Speaker 2: to along to every game. So a few years ago,
- 32:36Speaker 2: when I wasn't cretating, I think I might have been
- 32:39Speaker 2: on the panel. I was asked to go on the panel.
- 32:41Speaker 2: And they look for people with certain qualifications. So it's
- 32:44Speaker 2: not like damn, I thought, It's just you're getting more
- 32:48Speaker 2: and more qualified as a days, like a podcast hostgeds
- 32:51Speaker 2: to do it. But you know, lots of people ask
- 32:53Speaker 2: me if I picked the Lizzellis Award, and you know
- 32:55Speaker 2: what the giveaway is. If I picked the Lizellis Award,
- 32:57Speaker 2: it would be rapt Fortney and Sarah and Rudy and
- 33:04Speaker 2: Teagan and Ash. Of course it would be just all
- 33:07Speaker 2: the gut beepers. But so that's probably the proof that
- 33:10Speaker 2: I pick it. It is a panel, so it's and
- 33:14Speaker 2: I think that's appropriate, right, These awards mean so much
- 33:17Speaker 2: that it should be a panel. But when I picked
- 33:20Speaker 2: whenever I've done that sort of stuff, like everyone has
- 33:22Speaker 2: their little methodology. But I always just have a little
- 33:25Speaker 2: I do a three two one every quarter so that
- 33:27Speaker 2: you don't think the person who had the best last
- 33:29Speaker 2: quarter had the best game. You make sure you consistent
- 33:32Speaker 2: over the game.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Yeah, shout out to for the interchange though, for the
- 33:35Speaker 3: attack interchange Grace where he Midpourt interchange Liz Watson and
- 33:38Speaker 3: then Sunday Ariyang as well was the defender.
- 33:42Speaker 1: But let's unreal, Latanya Wilson. So you know she she
- 33:46Speaker 1: has grabbed her moment with both hands this year, hasn't she.
- 33:50Speaker 1: So Shamira goes off to have a baby and so
- 33:54Speaker 1: here's your chance, and man, didn't she take it? Talking
- 33:58Speaker 1: to Erin O'Brien on Saturday night and she's another one.
- 34:00Speaker 1: It's like, you had your chance this year and you
- 34:03Speaker 1: just absolutely made the most out. I love it. I'm
- 34:06Speaker 1: so moved when I see that that It's like these
- 34:09Speaker 1: stars might not align for you again. So do it now.
- 34:12Speaker 1: And Latanie Wilson certainly did. There was question if Jamie
- 34:16Speaker 1: Lee Prisce gets the Lizzelli's Diamond of the Year, why
- 34:19Speaker 1: is she not in the Team of the Year. And
- 34:21Speaker 1: they're entirely different, right, So she and she played she
- 34:25Speaker 1: played center in supernetbul all year, so then Page was
- 34:30Speaker 1: chosen in that position. She played wing defense in the Diamonds,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but her position in super Netball was center, and.
- 34:37Speaker 3: You've got a score well in both categories to win
- 34:39Speaker 3: the Lizella's Diamonds, So she's not necessarily the best center,
- 34:42Speaker 3: but she might be the second best center, and the
- 34:45Speaker 3: scores combined to win the Lizzella Steamond across some supernetpule
- 34:48Speaker 3: and the International. So yeah, it's very exciting. So excited,
- 34:53Speaker 3: called everybody, Hey, what about people taking opportunities? Joe harsh
- 34:58Speaker 3: has defect. Oh my god, so exciting. The first thing
- 35:04Speaker 3: I did was text Brian y Eagle mic drop. She's like, yeah,
- 35:08Speaker 3: she's going to be amazing. So if you don't know
- 35:10Speaker 3: what we're talking about, Joe Harton has signed as the
- 35:13Speaker 3: specialist shooting coach for the new South Wales Swifts for
- 35:17Speaker 3: next year, which is a big power play move I
- 35:21Speaker 3: think by the Swifts. But how great Joe will still
- 35:25Speaker 3: be in the game because you cannot lose that level
- 35:27Speaker 3: of experience.
- 35:28Speaker 1: And look, clearly, I don't know all the ins and
- 35:31Speaker 1: outs what's going on behind closed doors, but why the
- 35:34Speaker 1: hell didn't the Giants grab her with both hands and
- 35:36Speaker 1: get her into a coaching role. I mean, it's like,
- 35:40Speaker 1: what's she going to do? Wait around and oh, sorry,
- 35:42Speaker 1: I don't have a job with the Giants and I
- 35:44Speaker 1: can't possibly go to the suit. Of course, she's going
- 35:46Speaker 1: to grab it if someone offers it to her. It's like, oh,
- 35:49Speaker 1: I think it's very exciting. How do you coach shooting?
- 35:53Speaker 1: Clearly that's something I'm a little bit deficient in, but like,
- 35:56Speaker 1: what do you do? You get the bat ball in there?
- 35:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's it, and you sit back and just
- 36:01Speaker 3: wait for them to do it.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Now.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Oh, I mean that they would be breaking down everything
- 36:05Speaker 3: at sessions. She would go, I'd imagine to every session
- 36:08Speaker 3: if she's now involved in the team to that sort
- 36:10Speaker 3: of degree, and just work on them, get to know
- 36:13Speaker 3: the personalities, what they're like, what their weaknesses are, work
- 36:16Speaker 3: on those. But it'll be working on combos. I think
- 36:18Speaker 3: a little bit more of imagine being able to pick
- 36:20Speaker 3: the brain of Joe Harten.
- 36:22Speaker 1: And imagine Joe now being able to work with Wacky
- 36:25Speaker 1: and Helen. How it's like, oh my god, it's just
- 36:29Speaker 1: like the Traveling Wilburys, the Supergroups.
- 36:31Speaker 3: But it is a shame because had the Giants kept her,
- 36:34Speaker 3: Lucy Austin would be able to learn from someone like
- 36:36Speaker 3: Joe Hutton, which would have been a huge moment. But anyway,
- 36:39Speaker 3: it doesn't matter. We've got one of the great still
- 36:41Speaker 3: in the game, and I think that's what needs to
- 36:42Speaker 3: be applauded here.
- 36:47Speaker 1: What we haven't done is foolish words speaking of Janelle
- 36:49Speaker 1: fallon Emma being underrated. This is obviously the book that
- 36:52Speaker 1: I found in my office. Foolish words, the most stupid
- 36:55Speaker 1: words ever spoken, This one MGM talent scout on a
- 36:59Speaker 1: spying hopeful Fred Astaire in nineteen twenty eight. Can't act,
- 37:04Speaker 1: can't sing, bolding slightly, can dance a little, So the
- 37:08Speaker 1: experts might not know everything. Oh well, that's the end
- 37:15Speaker 1: of this episode, Dribbler's. You know that we get a
- 37:18Speaker 1: bit loose here sometimes with our techno skills. And we
- 37:23Speaker 1: lost Liz in the middle of that segment, and then
- 37:25Speaker 1: kath and I got distracted, and now she's left and
- 37:28Speaker 1: we can't get Liz back, and we haven't even bothered
- 37:31Speaker 1: to say goodbye. So if this sounds different to the
- 37:33Speaker 1: rest of the episode, that's because it's the next day
- 37:36Speaker 1: and Alex, our producer, reminded me that we didn't do
- 37:38Speaker 1: a proper sign off on it. We just got distracted,
- 37:41Speaker 1: so I'm here to sign off. We had a great
- 37:43Speaker 1: time having that chat. I'm sorry that this is so
- 37:46Speaker 1: half fast, but I think that's part of why you
- 37:48Speaker 1: come here. I'm Carolyn Swindell. That would be kath Cox,
- 37:52Speaker 1: and that would be Lizella's and they would be here
- 37:54Speaker 1: if they could, and if we hadn't had just this
- 37:57Speaker 1: tsunami of tech problems. But we'll mix those and be
- 38:00Speaker 1: back next week. I hope you have a lizz Ellis
- 38:04Speaker 1: Diamond of a week. Bye.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Mm hmm
