- 1:51Speaker 1: why the banners is tootles. We just started, so he
- 1:53Speaker 1: needs to say the intro. In this edition of Disguise coverage,
- 1:58Speaker 1: we will be diving into not necessarily the current state
- 2:02Speaker 1: of the Buffalo Bills, kind of the current state of
- 2:03Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills, but this idea of you know, the
- 2:07Speaker 1: mantra that's been attached to this Bills team really for
- 2:09Speaker 1: the past several years, especially as they've started to improve
- 2:13Speaker 1: and progress in what they are as a team and
- 2:15Speaker 1: as a franchise. You know, it started out as being
- 2:18Speaker 1: playoff caliber and then once you know, making the playoffs
- 2:20Speaker 1: became a regularity, we heard the mantra of championship caliber.
- 2:23Speaker 1: We hear Sean McDermott preach it, you know, during training
- 2:26Speaker 1: camp and the preseason. Throughout the regular season we hear it,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and impressors, we hear it, and behind the scenes locker
- 2:31Speaker 1: room stuff, we heard it during hard knocks and all
- 2:33Speaker 1: those pieces. It's something that they continuously bang the drump for.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Sean McDermott loves his you know, mantras and sayings, and
- 2:40Speaker 1: this is one that has been, you know, significantly attached
- 2:42Speaker 1: to this team. I think that one along with you know,
- 2:44Speaker 1: everybody eats, although that's kind of back aright, maybe potentially recently.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And so I wanted to take that notion of championship
- 2:50Speaker 1: caliber and apply it to this Buffalo Bills team for
- 2:53Speaker 1: the rest of twenty twenty five and potentially beyond, given
- 2:56Speaker 1: what we've seen through these first nine games, through these
- 2:59Speaker 1: first ten weeks. For what we saw, you know, this
- 3:02Speaker 1: past week against Miami, after coming off a really impressive
- 3:05Speaker 1: performance against the Chiefs, that coming on the heels of
- 3:09Speaker 1: you know, a victory against Carolina the bye week two
- 3:11Speaker 1: disappointing performances against the Falcons and the Patriots. You know,
- 3:15Speaker 1: is this team championship caliber for twenty twenty five? Are
- 3:18Speaker 1: they championship caliber for beyond? What stands in the way
- 3:22Speaker 1: of being them championship caliber for twenty twenty five? And
- 3:25Speaker 1: or beyond what fixes are there? Essentially kind of diving
- 3:28Speaker 1: into their flaws, the potential fixes, vulnerabilities, deficiencies of this
- 3:34Speaker 1: team from a roster standpoint, from a schematic standpoint, maybe
- 3:38Speaker 1: even from a front office standpoint, And I thought this
- 3:41Speaker 1: would be a fun conversation or maybe not so fun
- 3:43Speaker 1: conversation I have given. Yeah, where the Bills currently stand
- 3:45Speaker 1: again after disappointing not only loss. And I think this
- 3:50Speaker 1: is a good comment here from Charles, who I think,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you know, put it really well. Who said, you know,
- 3:53Speaker 1: for me, it's less that they lost and more how
- 3:56Speaker 1: they lost. The offense looks a mess when the run
- 3:58Speaker 1: game isn't working, and that's the healthy side. We need
- 4:01Speaker 1: to pick up the slack. Yeah, that's I think that's
- 4:04Speaker 1: a fair point. I thought that was really succinctly said.
- 4:07Speaker 1: It wasn't necessarily for me, it just make the fact.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I'm very calmon I'm pretty frustrated with this team. But
- 4:14Speaker 1: for me, yeah, the Miami lost, it was less that
- 4:16Speaker 1: they lost and more how they lost. I've said it,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, throughout the past couple of seasons, even though
- 4:21Speaker 1: the Bills have had this strong record and you know,
- 4:23Speaker 1: win loss performance or record, I should say against the
- 4:26Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins and the Allen era and the McDermott era,
- 4:29Speaker 1: Miami's played them tough more often than not, and the
- 4:31Speaker 1: Bills have had some games where the final score I
- 4:34Speaker 1: don't think is necessarily indicative of how close the game is.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I thought The Dolphins played the Bills tough in Week three,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and that game really changed on the heels of the
- 4:44Speaker 1: penalty on the punt after Miami had stopped the Bills
- 4:46Speaker 1: i think, for three consecutive drives in a row, and
- 4:48Speaker 1: that game ended up thirty one to twenty one. So
- 4:50Speaker 1: I didn't think this game would be a blowout, even
- 4:52Speaker 1: with Miami trading Jalen Phillips and kind of, you know,
- 4:55Speaker 1: pushing the eject button on this season, I didn't think
- 4:57Speaker 1: it would be as easy as a lot of people
- 4:59Speaker 1: were mak it out to be. But it was more
- 5:01Speaker 1: how they lost. It was more of the performance. It
- 5:05Speaker 1: was just the malaise that seemed to exist over this
- 5:08Speaker 1: team to start. It was how stuck in the mud
- 5:13Speaker 1: they looked offensively, and then a culmination of a lot
- 5:17Speaker 1: of the issues that and I'm not you know, patting
- 5:20Speaker 1: myself on the back here at all, but a lot
- 5:22Speaker 1: of the issues that I spoke about or you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: talked about from a worrisome standpoint this offseason, a lot
- 5:27Speaker 1: of them continuing to kind of come full circle and
- 5:29Speaker 1: those chickens continuing to come home to roost, and we
- 5:31Speaker 1: saw a bunch of them in this game, and it's
- 5:33Speaker 1: a frustrating spot to be in if you're a Bills fan,
- 5:35Speaker 1: depending on what any type of expectation or hope you
- 5:39Speaker 1: had for this team. I thought so again, I thought
- 5:42Speaker 1: this would be a nice episode to kind of dive
- 5:44Speaker 1: into these pieces and these thoughts and these things from
- 5:46Speaker 1: my perspective and of course from your perspective. As always,
- 5:52Speaker 1: you know, I realized I forgot to do my banters
- 5:54Speaker 1: that I'm going to be putting up here. So as
- 5:55Speaker 1: I start to type these things, I am going to
- 5:58Speaker 1: speak to you folks. Questions, thoughts, comments, concerns, anything and
- 6:03Speaker 1: everything that is on your mind. You know, we always
- 6:05Speaker 1: try to make this show as engaging and as back
- 6:10Speaker 1: and forth as possible, especially when I do these solo
- 6:12Speaker 1: episodes with no guests. So questions, thoughts, comments, concerns, anything
- 6:16Speaker 1: and everything that you folks have in you know, on
- 6:19Speaker 1: your mind, whatever you got, put it into the live chat.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I will bring up everything as much as humanly and
- 6:28Speaker 1: physically possible. I want, again make this episode as engaging
- 6:31Speaker 1: as possible. I have my thoughts, obviously, but I know,
- 6:34Speaker 1: especially with times like this where you know, we've got
- 6:38Speaker 1: a lot of thoughts, a lot of concerns, all these pieces.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I think it's good always trying to get some things
- 6:45Speaker 1: off of everybody's chest. Maybe provide a little group therapy
- 6:48Speaker 1: as we go forward a little bit. I'm gonna grab
- 6:50Speaker 1: some thoughts from the chat as we start to get
- 6:53Speaker 1: into things here, Bob, I laughed it as earlier, Bob,
- 6:56Speaker 1: so the case game got me off rubbing alcohol straight up,
- 6:58Speaker 1: no chaser, however, the Miami fiasco, I'm on a twenty
- 7:01Speaker 1: nineteen Tuscany coastal after shave heater, opulent yet not yet
- 7:07Speaker 1: a not too complex minerality to it. Well, very just
- 7:10Speaker 1: that's sober, bost Well done, Well done, sess Binar says.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Please tell me you're not a Dabel truther. I feel
- 7:16Speaker 1: like no one remembers or has seen Dable without an
- 7:18Speaker 1: elite defense and a top three NFL wide receiver. I'm
- 7:22Speaker 1: not necessarily a Dable truther. I'm open to the idea
- 7:26Speaker 1: of changes offensively, but I'm not necessarily on the Dable train.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I know a lot of folks immediately wanted him brought
- 7:33Speaker 1: back in. I don't see that happening unless, like I
- 7:36Speaker 1: feel like, if you bring Dabel, and that means Brady
- 7:38Speaker 1: is out there. Dabel and Joe Brady's identities or philosophies offensively,
- 7:45Speaker 1: I don't think really mesh well with one another. So
- 7:47Speaker 1: if you're bringing Dable in, I think that either means
- 7:50Speaker 1: Brady is out soon or definitely out at the end
- 7:54Speaker 1: of the year. But if they continue to do good,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you wouldn't necessarily Jennison want to put that in his brain,
- 7:59Speaker 1: or maybe you do want to put that in his bonnet.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I don't know, but I'm not necessarily a Dable truther
- 8:03Speaker 1: from the perspective of dropping him into this team. And
- 8:05Speaker 1: it's a cure all and everything goes by great, especially
- 8:08Speaker 1: when you look at what the Giants have been the
- 8:09Speaker 1: past several years. You know, him failing to get Malik
- 8:12Speaker 1: Neighbors the ball against the Chiefs and just at other times,
- 8:15Speaker 1: you know, struggling to get Neighbors to the ball, even
- 8:17Speaker 1: to the point where Neighbors went to the media last
- 8:18Speaker 1: year and I think maybe even this year talking about
- 8:21Speaker 1: how it's not the quarterback and kind of referencing it's
- 8:23Speaker 1: the offense, or it's Gable or it's the design. The
- 8:25Speaker 1: Giants were such a mess offensively to a lot of degree,
- 8:28Speaker 1: and you know, there were times where they were really
- 8:31Speaker 1: sluggish when he was here in Buffalo. I know how
- 8:33Speaker 1: he went out on a high note, but I feel like, yeah,
- 8:35Speaker 1: a lot of people are just choosing to remember the
- 8:38Speaker 1: good and not how angry they were at a lot
- 8:40Speaker 1: of times, especially that Jags game. But no, I'm not
- 8:43Speaker 1: a Dable truther. I would be completely against him coming in.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I just I don't think it jives with where this
- 8:49Speaker 1: team is right now culturally or on the offensive side
- 8:52Speaker 1: of the ball. So I just don't really think it's happening.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I don't think it necessarily makes a lot of sense
- 8:56Speaker 1: unless it means you're getting rid of Joe Brady soon,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and I don't think that that's the case right now.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And even if it was going from Brady to Dable
- 9:05Speaker 1: that offense, that's system, I don't I don't think Again,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I don't think it's a seamless fit at this point.
- 9:11Speaker 1: But yeah, there are a lot of people that are
- 9:12Speaker 1: on that bag when bandwagon, I get it, I get it,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I get it, I get it. Peter says, the problem
- 9:18Speaker 1: is the scheme pure and simple Brady, isn't it give
- 9:21Speaker 1: him the next game with an ultimatum to get his
- 9:23Speaker 1: crap together, or he gets the boot and Chromer gets
- 9:26Speaker 1: an interim promotion promotable from within. I like the idea.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Arn Kromer is just you know, his krusty offensive line position.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I think he's one of the better assistant coaches in
- 9:35Speaker 1: the league. I forget when he was last a let's
- 9:39Speaker 1: go to the internet. I forget when he was last
- 9:43Speaker 1: in OC. I think it was for the Bears. Yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 1: he was the OC. Yeah, he was the OC for
- 9:47Speaker 1: the Bears from twenty thirteen to twenty fourteen, and then
- 9:51Speaker 1: O line coach with the Bills, O line coach with
- 9:53Speaker 1: the Rams, run game coordinator and online coach with the Rams,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and then with the Bills from twenty twenty two through
- 9:58Speaker 1: the present. Chromer's interesting. Yeah, I just I don't I
- 10:03Speaker 1: don't know we're gonna get into this piece with Brady.
- 10:05Speaker 1: It's such a mess. Offensively frustrated. I appreciate this Fromester
- 10:10Speaker 1: saying finally I've been waiting for your video, and I
- 10:11Speaker 1: thank you very much. Richard thinks this is a great
- 10:13Speaker 1: comment or a great topic for today, I should say,
- 10:16Speaker 1: Darth Brooks, I like that. Well done, well done with
- 10:19Speaker 1: my intro, and you put it in there Pop saying,
- 10:21Speaker 1: when to will learn to throw a long pass. He
- 10:23Speaker 1: kind of always has. He usually just hangs it up
- 10:25Speaker 1: a little bit too much. But he uncorked a couple
- 10:27Speaker 1: of good ones against the Bills and uncorked a couple
- 10:28Speaker 1: of bad ones. Kind of part for the course, unfortunately.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Charles says, there's basically an umbrella over the top of
- 10:34Speaker 1: the offensive about twenty yards to talk about that, Pop
- 10:37Speaker 1: says energy on defense looks so good for two weeks
- 10:40Speaker 1: with Hoyt. What a blessed, What a blessed two weeks
- 10:43Speaker 1: those were. Peter says, Josh had Keon on two deep
- 10:47Speaker 1: throws and shanked them both. Yeah, he chucked one a
- 10:49Speaker 1: little bit too far to the sideline when keyat ended
- 10:51Speaker 1: signed leverage and then underthrew him on another coming here.
- 10:57Speaker 1: There was plenty of folks in the chats on various podcasts,
- 10:59Speaker 1: including My that couldn't wait for Dable to be gone. Yeah,
- 11:01Speaker 1: it's funny how time heals all wounds apparently when it
- 11:06Speaker 1: comes to Brian Dable or the offense. I also think
- 11:08Speaker 1: it's funny too. How a lot of not necessarily funny,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but how a lot of the frustrations with the Bills offense,
- 11:12Speaker 1: and the comments from a lot of fans mirror the
- 11:15Speaker 1: same comments that were made about the offense under Dorsey
- 11:18Speaker 1: and similar comments made about Dorsey, even though he and
- 11:21Speaker 1: Brady are two different style of coaches. And I also
- 11:24Speaker 1: think it's funny to kind of hear that and see
- 11:26Speaker 1: that and recognize what's the constant in that situation and
- 11:31Speaker 1: what's not fair common here Groundhog Day twenty twenty three
- 11:35Speaker 1: season feels just like after the Denver game in twenty
- 11:37Speaker 1: twenty three, Coach Cheats says, are our receivers that bad?
- 11:41Speaker 1: Or is the passing scheme? The real problem is Joe
- 11:44Speaker 1: Brady ever put together a good passing offense in the NFL.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I'm going to talk about this a bit as we
- 11:48Speaker 1: go forward, but I think everything that's wrong with the
- 11:50Speaker 1: offense is a multitude of things in a combination of
- 11:53Speaker 1: all of them. I think Joe Brady's gotten a bit
- 11:55Speaker 1: predictable in his formations and in his play calls, and
- 11:59Speaker 1: in his concepts and presentation pre snap presentation. I think
- 12:04Speaker 1: the talented wide receiver isn't necessarily built to support having
- 12:10Speaker 1: to chuck it around thirty to forty times a game.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I also think it's not built to put fear into
- 12:15Speaker 1: defenses and scare them off from selling out against the run.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I also think Josh Allen hasn't been a strong version
- 12:23Speaker 1: of himself this year from a decision making standpoint and
- 12:28Speaker 1: from an overall play standpoint, I think he's playing a
- 12:30Speaker 1: bit skittish mentally in the pocket on some of his decisions,
- 12:34Speaker 1: where he's looking, where his eyes are going, what he's
- 12:36Speaker 1: doing pre snap, what he's doing post snap, even setting protections.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So I think it's a combination and a multitude of things.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I don't think the Bills receivers are bad. I don't
- 12:45Speaker 1: think that they strike fear into the opposing defense's hearts
- 12:49Speaker 1: on a week to week basis. I don't think they
- 12:51Speaker 1: have a receiving core that can consistently win out on
- 12:53Speaker 1: the outside and or deep, especially when you look at
- 12:57Speaker 1: the guys that are getting most of the snaps. I'm
- 12:59Speaker 1: going to put that on the back burner now because
- 13:00Speaker 1: I have follow up pieces for that on some fixes
- 13:03Speaker 1: for what they can do going forward. Damn Connors's big
- 13:08Speaker 1: intrusive thought. Alan is a coordinator killer who goes through
- 13:11Speaker 1: two to three year cycles because inconsistencies and slumps that
- 13:14Speaker 1: he goes through. I think that's a very interesting thought.
- 13:19Speaker 1: But James says, over under two and a half, how
- 13:22Speaker 1: many times Billy Buffalo falls to his knees taking to
- 13:26Speaker 1: the under Charles says, they gotta do something about the
- 13:28Speaker 1: run pass thing out of shotgun versus under center. We
- 13:30Speaker 1: are going to talk about that. Renee says, is Josh
- 13:35Speaker 1: Allen just hesitant to throw it to a receiver unless
- 13:39Speaker 1: they're wide open. I see other teams making completions to
- 13:41Speaker 1: players that are covered, and their wide receivers aren't great either.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I will say, because we're going to talk about this
- 13:45Speaker 1: again as we go forward, I have a segment for this,
- 13:46Speaker 1: so I don't want to give too much of it
- 13:47Speaker 1: away right now, but I will say Alan Alan, over
- 13:51Speaker 1: the course of his career, has preferred definitive and declarative separators.
- 13:55Speaker 1: That's why him, you know, them drafting keyon Coleman. Him
- 13:58Speaker 1: wanting key on Coleman was an interesting thought because they
- 14:02Speaker 1: really hadn't had, you know, like a power forward at
- 14:04Speaker 1: wide receiver that's worked well with Alan. The last kind
- 14:06Speaker 1: of dudes that they had was early in his career
- 14:08Speaker 1: that didn't work out so great. But you didn't know
- 14:10Speaker 1: if it was best because it was Alan was still developing,
- 14:12Speaker 1: or because he doesn't work well with that type of
- 14:14Speaker 1: skill set or those traits and the guys that he's
- 14:18Speaker 1: worked best with the top two Stefan Diggs, Cole Beasley.
- 14:22Speaker 1: So you're looking at premier route runners, premier separators, Guys
- 14:26Speaker 1: that can beat man, guys that understand how to read
- 14:28Speaker 1: a defense, and again more importantly, guys who can win
- 14:31Speaker 1: and separate quickly and declaratively. Guys that when they get open,
- 14:37Speaker 1: it's air traffic controllers waving you on through like yep,
- 14:40Speaker 1: you're wide open, give me the ball. They don't have
- 14:43Speaker 1: those type of dudes right now. They kind of have
- 14:45Speaker 1: it a little bit in some guys, and those are
- 14:46Speaker 1: the guys that Alan prefers to go to. But I
- 14:50Speaker 1: think to a degree, yeah, Alan's not necessarily a big, huge,
- 14:53Speaker 1: anticipatory thrower type of dude. He's not you know, okay,
- 14:57Speaker 1: you're making your break, let me throw it now. He's
- 14:59Speaker 1: not like the Matthew Stafford type of thrower. He is
- 15:01Speaker 1: a little bit like, let's see it open, let's see
- 15:04Speaker 1: it clear. I can be a little late if I
- 15:06Speaker 1: need to be, because I have a cannon for an
- 15:08Speaker 1: arm and I can fire it in there. I don't
- 15:10Speaker 1: think he's necessarily you know, blanket statement, hesitant to throw
- 15:13Speaker 1: it until they're wide open. But I do think he prefers,
- 15:16Speaker 1: you know, quick declarative separators a la Stefon Diggs A
- 15:20Speaker 1: la Cole Beasley, two of his better targets throughout his career.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Bob says, let's not forget Dabe had to struggles as well.
- 15:29Speaker 1: He was feeling the heat. Oh we got a super chat.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I gotta go, Rick, thank you very much for being
- 15:34Speaker 1: here and thank you for the super chat. I appreciate you.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Rick says, I still think the Bills can beat anyone.
- 15:38Speaker 1: The Miami loss is frustrating because they were inconsistent and lazy.
- 15:41Speaker 1: That's not championship DNA. I completely agree. I think the loss,
- 15:45Speaker 1: the type of loss is frustrating. Ties a little bit
- 15:47Speaker 1: into some of the Sean McDermot concerns, which I'm gonna
- 15:49Speaker 1: get into on the back end of this episode. But
- 15:51Speaker 1: I still I agree with your first statement. I still
- 15:53Speaker 1: do think the Bills can beat anyone. It just becomes
- 15:55Speaker 1: more of a I guess toss up now in terms
- 15:58Speaker 1: of are you going to get their best or are
- 16:00Speaker 1: you going to get their worst? And is their best
- 16:02Speaker 1: good enough? And how bad is their worst? And you
- 16:04Speaker 1: kind of play that game week to week. I think
- 16:06Speaker 1: I still think this team is a championship contender in
- 16:09Speaker 1: the AFC because of how open and wide open I
- 16:12Speaker 1: should say the AFC is this year. But we're going
- 16:14Speaker 1: to get into a lot of those piece But I
- 16:15Speaker 1: think it's a very fair comment from you, Reckon again,
- 16:18Speaker 1: thank you for being here and thinking for the super chat.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Bye bye. What does koalish to comment here? What does
- 16:25Speaker 1: Koalishekurur do best? Run after catch, getting the ball in
- 16:28Speaker 1: Khalis Shakir's hands and letting him go to work. Getting
- 16:31Speaker 1: the ball in Khalil Shakir's hands, and he is like
- 16:34Speaker 1: a running back once he has the ball in his hands.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It's contact, balance, it's elusiveness, it's physicality, break tackle ability.
- 16:44Speaker 1: You know, he's got some juice. It's just so many things.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I made this comment before, I think on the show,
- 16:48Speaker 1: but I've said it on social He and Bucky Irving
- 16:51Speaker 1: the running back for the Buccaneers, who's awesome. They look
- 16:53Speaker 1: like the same person with the when the ball is
- 16:55Speaker 1: in their hands. Khalil Shakir is a running back once
- 16:57Speaker 1: he gets the ball in his hands, so what he
- 16:58Speaker 1: does best is yards after catch. I do think he's
- 17:03Speaker 1: a solid route runner, but his best thing is yards
- 17:05Speaker 1: after catch. So get him the ball quickly and let
- 17:06Speaker 1: him do work. Jose says, do you think Palmer and
- 17:13Speaker 1: Secure need to be the focal point now that can
- 17:15Speaker 1: Kate is out? Yes. I also think they need to
- 17:19Speaker 1: make another tweak, which is something I'm gonna mention in
- 17:21Speaker 1: in one of my segments later. What else else? What
- 17:29Speaker 1: else else? Joey says, I just hate seeing Josh play
- 17:33Speaker 1: with this lack of confidence, like he doesn't want to
- 17:34Speaker 1: make a mistake. Yeah, it's part of the the skittishness
- 17:38Speaker 1: that I mentioned. You guys did an episode on Allen
- 17:44Speaker 1: and wide receivers not connecting. If a guy gets open
- 17:46Speaker 1: on a go route on a scale of one to ten,
- 17:48Speaker 1: what's your confidence? Alan hits them like, throws it deep
- 17:51Speaker 1: and completes it deep. I'm at like forty five percent
- 17:55Speaker 1: right now, maybe fifty one because I don't know if
- 17:57Speaker 1: he's gonna pull the trigger deep. Two. He hasn't been
- 18:01Speaker 1: that great of a deep ball thrower. Going back to
- 18:03Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, so I need to see the sample
- 18:06Speaker 1: sides before I get more confident. Charles says it's the scheme.
- 18:10Speaker 1: They got fooled by Josh playing the most efficient last
- 18:12Speaker 1: year to be perfect, and he mostly did not a
- 18:14Speaker 1: sustainable formula. They still need the big plays. Yep, it's
- 18:16Speaker 1: hard to just stay efficient, matriculate and matriculate and matriculate.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Zenter says, Allen's accuracy is off this year. Not sure
- 18:29Speaker 1: why we never throw a long ball. Even if the
- 18:31Speaker 1: success rates are low, we still need to attempt them.
- 18:33Speaker 1: We are too predictable without a deep threat. I have
- 18:36Speaker 1: a lot of thoughts on that. I can't continue to say,
- 18:38Speaker 1: like that's in a lot of my thoughts later. But
- 18:40Speaker 1: I think that's a very first statement. Is it a
- 18:45Speaker 1: lack of skill set or usage? Not just with the offense,
- 18:48Speaker 1: but I just feel like we get a certain we
- 18:49Speaker 1: get certain players and we expect them to be used
- 18:51Speaker 1: in a certain way, and they use them in a
- 18:53Speaker 1: more lackluster way. Very fair thought. Bob says YAQ was
- 18:56Speaker 1: an issue they wanted to improve. Problem is, as you
- 18:58Speaker 1: pointed out, Josh needs a to get a hip, a
- 19:01Speaker 1: chess et cetera. To throat to very fair. Good comment
- 19:04Speaker 1: here from Adventures of Steven Lourie. Bills have a tendency
- 19:07Speaker 1: to play to the level of their opponent. Yes, that
- 19:09Speaker 1: is both good and ben this is a good one
- 19:13Speaker 1: for Pop, who says, last couple of games, it seems
- 19:14Speaker 1: like when Allen decides to run, he's getting sacked at
- 19:16Speaker 1: the start. Yeah. His uh, his pressure to sack rate
- 19:19Speaker 1: has gone up this year by about eight or nine
- 19:23Speaker 1: percentage points, which is a lot for him last year,
- 19:25Speaker 1: who's the best quarterback in the league in terms of
- 19:28Speaker 1: not allowing pressures to be converted to sacks. This year
- 19:30Speaker 1: is more like middle of the pack at around like
- 19:32Speaker 1: eighteen percent. It's something that it seems like he's regressed
- 19:37Speaker 1: in whether it's the time that he decides to run
- 19:40Speaker 1: or not being able to wait, not being able to
- 19:42Speaker 1: get away from defensive linemen and linebackers like traditionally has. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 1: it's been it's been frustrating to see. It's been frustrating
- 19:50Speaker 1: to see. And then Charles mentioned it. Yeah, like Shakiri,
- 19:53Speaker 1: he's a glorified a screen catcher and he's so much
- 19:55Speaker 1: better than that. I do agree. I do agree. Well,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I see this comment here from Alvi, does that seem
- 19:59Speaker 1: like the wider series aren't running full speed on a
- 20:01Speaker 1: lot of snaps. We're going to get into that as
- 20:03Speaker 1: we go forward. Let's start to get in to that piece.
- 20:05Speaker 1: The first thing I want to talk about it I've
- 20:07Speaker 1: seen this come up a lot. This is more for
- 20:10Speaker 1: not necessarily beyond, but kind of twenty twenty six and
- 20:13Speaker 1: beyond tying into this year. I want to talk about
- 20:16Speaker 1: several contracts and several players that are tied to those contracts.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Because it's a it's a combat that's come up a
- 20:21Speaker 1: lot in the shows on social I wanted to dive
- 20:24Speaker 1: into it a bit. I want to start with Terrell Bernard.
- 20:27Speaker 1: He based on his contract and his extension this year,
- 20:30Speaker 1: and this is part of the reason why I want
- 20:31Speaker 1: to start with him, is because so much of the
- 20:33Speaker 1: conversation has been you know, the extensions this year Bernard
- 20:36Speaker 1: for this offseason, Bernard, Russeau, Benford, Shakira. Shakiro is probably
- 20:40Speaker 1: playing the best out of all four of those guys,
- 20:42Speaker 1: but he's not. But there's questions around his usage as
- 20:44Speaker 1: multi multiple of you have noted in the chap Benford
- 20:47Speaker 1: isn't playing to the level we've seen him play the
- 20:49Speaker 1: past couple of years, especially last year. Rousseau was banged
- 20:52Speaker 1: up earlier this year, he's gotten better, but he's still
- 20:54Speaker 1: not looking necessarily like the edge one that they paid
- 20:58Speaker 1: him to be. Whether you think he could still ascend
- 21:00Speaker 1: to that or not a different conversation. But Bernard, I think,
- 21:03Speaker 1: is the one who has played the worst out of
- 21:06Speaker 1: all those extension players. Honestly, one of the worst players
- 21:08Speaker 1: on the defense this year. Now I want to say
- 21:11Speaker 1: he looks injured. I'm fairly confident that he's injured. You
- 21:16Speaker 1: can just tell the way he's moving. He just I
- 21:21Speaker 1: mentioned earlier on social his he just looks like he's
- 21:23Speaker 1: running in quicksand or like he's running in concrete, or
- 21:26Speaker 1: he's got some ment feet. His change of direction isn't there.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Now you're also getting some poor run fits. From a
- 21:31Speaker 1: mental standpoint, you're getting some poor decisions and movement and coverage.
- 21:35Speaker 1: And how much of that is tied of the injury,
- 21:37Speaker 1: I don't know. So the injury is a big variable.
- 21:39Speaker 1: But anyway you slice it, he's not playing good this year.
- 21:42Speaker 1: You're not getting rid of Jrel Bernard next year or
- 21:45Speaker 1: the year after you just paid him. He was a
- 21:46Speaker 1: good player for you last year. He's one of your captains,
- 21:49Speaker 1: So just from that standpoint, you're not getting rid of him,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and then his cap hits, you're also not getting rid
- 21:53Speaker 1: of him. Next year, he's only got a cap hit
- 21:56Speaker 1: of a I'm sorry, a cap hit a five point
- 21:58Speaker 1: four to two five point four to seven to two mil.
- 22:01Speaker 1: But he's got a dead cap hit of eleven point
- 22:03Speaker 1: eight and then he's got a higher cap hit in
- 22:06Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven. The dead cap is too much, you're
- 22:08Speaker 1: not getting rid of it. There is a potential out
- 22:10Speaker 1: in twenty twenty eight where he has a cap hit
- 22:12Speaker 1: of twelve mil but a dead cap of two point
- 22:15Speaker 1: four mil pre or post June first cut. If you
- 22:19Speaker 1: give him post June first designation, you could spread the
- 22:21Speaker 1: cap hit over twenty twenty eight and twenty twenty nine.
- 22:24Speaker 1: That'll save you ten point eight million dollars post June first,
- 22:28Speaker 1: nine point six pre June first. So there is a
- 22:31Speaker 1: potential out three years from now, which I also think
- 22:34Speaker 1: is fair to kind of see next year the year after,
- 22:37Speaker 1: how does he recover from this injury? What do you
- 22:38Speaker 1: get from the rest of this year? I see the
- 22:41Speaker 1: conversation on a lot of sides. When it comes to Bernard,
- 22:44Speaker 1: of he's injured, he'll be fine, versus other people saying
- 22:47Speaker 1: he's too small, he's too slight, he's regressed. Last year
- 22:50Speaker 1: was a flash in the pan. However you slice it,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you need proper sample size because of just the position
- 22:56Speaker 1: that he plays, in the trajectory that he's been on.
- 22:58Speaker 1: But in addition that the injury again this year, I
- 23:01Speaker 1: think Muddy's a ton of what you have going on.
- 23:03Speaker 1: But in the future, again, it's gonna suck if he
- 23:06Speaker 1: really has regressed to this point and in twenty twenty
- 23:08Speaker 1: six and twenty twenty seven. His contract is an albatross
- 23:12Speaker 1: you can get out, although it's not ideal, but there
- 23:14Speaker 1: is a good out in twenty twenty eight for him. Again,
- 23:16Speaker 1: he's been poor this year, but that injury isn't variable,
- 23:19Speaker 1: So unfortunately you got to see how he does next
- 23:21Speaker 1: year and then you go from there when it comes
- 23:22Speaker 1: to his deal. The next two I think are both
- 23:25Speaker 1: players that have a high high high chance of being
- 23:28Speaker 1: gone this upcoming offseason. The first is Dawson Knox. He
- 23:32Speaker 1: has the second highest cap hit from a percentage standpoint
- 23:35Speaker 1: this year on the bills at five point two to
- 23:37Speaker 1: two percent. It's a cap hit a fourteen point five
- 23:40Speaker 1: six eight million dollars that looks worse with every passing week.
- 23:44Speaker 1: That Dawson Knox deal, you're just not getting the return
- 23:47Speaker 1: on investment you want. Next year, his cap hit raises
- 23:51Speaker 1: to seventeen million, but a post June first release or
- 23:56Speaker 1: trade it saves twelve million dollars. You'd get a cap
- 23:59Speaker 1: hit a dead cap hit of five point six eight
- 24:04Speaker 1: million in twenty twenty six and two point three three
- 24:06Speaker 1: six in June twenty twenty seven. If you're able to
- 24:09Speaker 1: spread that out and do the post June first deal,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I think he's gone. I do think he's more valuable
- 24:14Speaker 1: than it seems with what he offers as an inline
- 24:17Speaker 1: tight end and how much Dawson Knox doesn't offer you
- 24:21Speaker 1: in terms of being an inline tight end. I think
- 24:23Speaker 1: Knox is a good bridge between Kincaid and Hawes. He's
- 24:28Speaker 1: not the receiver that Kincaid is, but he's a better
- 24:31Speaker 1: blocker than Kincaid and he can live in line. He's
- 24:34Speaker 1: not the in line blocker and force that Jackson Hawes is,
- 24:38Speaker 1: but he's more viable receiving target and threat, So he
- 24:41Speaker 1: kind of lives in the darkness and the light and
- 24:44Speaker 1: splits the difference. And I do think that has value
- 24:46Speaker 1: because Kinkaid cannot line up in line or really attach
- 24:49Speaker 1: to the formation in any way that you really need
- 24:51Speaker 1: him to from a meaningful standpoint. But paying a guy
- 24:56Speaker 1: that much for that role is not ideal right now
- 24:59Speaker 1: with this team and where they need going forward. So
- 25:01Speaker 1: there's a good out for Dawson Knox this upcoming offseason.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Same thing can be said for Curtis Samuel, seventh highest
- 25:07Speaker 1: cap hit from a percent standpoint this year at three
- 25:09Speaker 1: point twenty five percent. He's got a cap hit of
- 25:11Speaker 1: essentially nine point one million dollars. There's, again, like Knox,
- 25:15Speaker 1: an out next offseason. He has a cap hit of
- 25:17Speaker 1: nine point seven twenty five, but a post June first
- 25:20Speaker 1: release of eight million dollars in savings and then a
- 25:24Speaker 1: one point seven to twenty five dead cap in twenty
- 25:26Speaker 1: twenty six. In twenty twenty seven, you spread that out,
- 25:29Speaker 1: you can designate up to two posts June first cuts.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I think Knox will be one and I think Samuel
- 25:35Speaker 1: will be the other. I think Samuel is the most
- 25:37Speaker 1: likely mainly because again tight end is wonky with what
- 25:40Speaker 1: kin kid is, and we also know I'm not trying
- 25:42Speaker 1: to play the politic card, but Knox is really good
- 25:45Speaker 1: friends with Josh Allen, so maybe that plays a role
- 25:48Speaker 1: in him not going anywhere. Samuel's just you're not getting
- 25:53Speaker 1: that return on investment from Samuel. And for whatever reason,
- 25:56Speaker 1: despite the fact that Joe Brady had him in Carolina
- 25:58Speaker 1: and he was productive and had his best seat with
- 26:00Speaker 1: Joe Brady and Carolina, the Bills don't seem to want
- 26:03Speaker 1: him or know how to use him on the offense.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Curtis Samuel, that is, so I don't think you're going
- 26:08Speaker 1: to continue to pay a guy, you know, essentially ten
- 26:11Speaker 1: million dollars next year from a cap hits standpoint to
- 26:14Speaker 1: be your wide receiver four or five when it comes
- 26:16Speaker 1: to targets and snapshare. That just doesn't make sense for
- 26:19Speaker 1: this team. So I think Samuel is likely gone. I
- 26:21Speaker 1: think Knox sh I don't want to say should, but
- 26:25Speaker 1: I think knock should be probably be gone as well. Like, again,
- 26:28Speaker 1: he's gonna have a where is it? Yeah, he's gonna
- 26:30Speaker 1: have a cap hit of essentially seventeen point one million
- 26:32Speaker 1: dollars next year. That's just crazy. For a guy who's
- 26:35Speaker 1: like kind of your tight end two, maybe kind of
- 26:39Speaker 1: tight end one, but he doesn't really offer you tight
- 26:40Speaker 1: end one. Upside, it's it's tough. You could, as Claude
- 26:43Speaker 1: says in the comments, you could potentially restructure him. It's
- 26:47Speaker 1: just gonna get messy. I do again think him being
- 26:50Speaker 1: really good friends with Alan and close with Alan will
- 26:53Speaker 1: play a role. We'll see just how much. But I
- 26:55Speaker 1: wanted to mention those three contracts because of how much
- 26:59Speaker 1: the conversation is centered around that of like they're screwed
- 27:03Speaker 1: for the future because of you know, how much they
- 27:05Speaker 1: have to pay Allen, and then how much money they've
- 27:07Speaker 1: sunk into Bernard and Benford and Shakiir and Rousseau. Rousseau's
- 27:10Speaker 1: not going anywhere. I still think he can improve. Shakire's
- 27:13Speaker 1: not going anywhere. I think he still can improve. Benford
- 27:15Speaker 1: is not going anywhere. I still think he'll get better
- 27:17Speaker 1: and back to where he was. I think Bernard will
- 27:21Speaker 1: end up being fine as well. Again, I do think
- 27:22Speaker 1: a lot of the poor play this year, unfortunately, is
- 27:24Speaker 1: tied to the injury. Now. I wasn't as high on
- 27:27Speaker 1: him as a lot of people were last year. I
- 27:28Speaker 1: know a lot of folks were kind of anointing him
- 27:30Speaker 1: as one of the best linebackers in the league. I
- 27:32Speaker 1: didn't think he was that level, but I think he's
- 27:35Speaker 1: a solid player. I think he was deserving of that
- 27:37Speaker 1: extension given the role that he played in this defense.
- 27:39Speaker 1: And I do think a lot of his regression, though extreme,
- 27:44Speaker 1: is due to injury. And at the very least, you
- 27:46Speaker 1: have to get the proper sample size, let him get healthy,
- 27:49Speaker 1: let that play out, and see what he is going forward,
- 27:53Speaker 1: and I think he'll end up being fine. But worst
- 27:54Speaker 1: case scenario, again for Bernard, you have an out in
- 27:56Speaker 1: twenty twenty eight. I know that's not ideal for a
- 27:58Speaker 1: lot of folks, but you do have a potential out
- 28:03Speaker 1: for that. And I see some people answer and asking comments, yeah,
- 28:07Speaker 1: you could potentially restructure knocks. I don't know how likely
- 28:09Speaker 1: it is. I have to dive into his cap you know,
- 28:11Speaker 1: contract more from from how it's actually laid out in
- 28:15Speaker 1: terms of the guarantees and all the details of it,
- 28:17Speaker 1: but just off the raw pre post June first cut,
- 28:20Speaker 1: you know, dead cap hit savings, all that he's a
- 28:24Speaker 1: likely cut candidate, or at the very least, or restructure candidate.
- 28:26Speaker 1: It just doesn't. But I think cut makes a lot
- 28:28Speaker 1: more sense. It's just it's tough. But again it's the
- 28:34Speaker 1: last time and not the last time I'm gonna mention
- 28:35Speaker 1: was we'll speak about a little point with this or later.
- 28:37Speaker 1: It is tough because you're gonna sit there and say, well,
- 28:40Speaker 1: you've got Hawes and you've got Kincaid. You can't really
- 28:42Speaker 1: pay Dawson Knox what you're paying him because you've got
- 28:44Speaker 1: these three tight ends. But Cancaid can't really be used
- 28:48Speaker 1: as a true tight end because he can't be lined
- 28:51Speaker 1: up attached to the formation because if he is, he's
- 28:54Speaker 1: either got to run a route or it's an advantage
- 28:57Speaker 1: for the defense because he can't hold up and block
- 28:59Speaker 1: defensive ends or edges or linebackers like that's a mismatch.
- 29:02Speaker 1: So you either have to run away from his side,
- 29:05Speaker 1: and again that's a teleretendency. You still have to also
- 29:08Speaker 1: hold that he or hope that he holds up on
- 29:10Speaker 1: the backside, or you can run the risk of running
- 29:13Speaker 1: to his side. But then it's going to be advantage
- 29:16Speaker 1: defense because again him versus defensive end or an edge
- 29:18Speaker 1: is a mismatch. It's just it's just there's a lot
- 29:22Speaker 1: of complications schematically and from reformation in alignment and usage perspective.
- 29:26Speaker 1: So like you do need Dawson Knox and what he
- 29:29Speaker 1: offers and being in that kind of middle of being
- 29:32Speaker 1: a blocker. Like he's good enough to be in line
- 29:35Speaker 1: as a tight end and block against a variety of
- 29:38Speaker 1: body types, including defensive ends, edges, and big backers. And
- 29:41Speaker 1: he's also good enough to run routes and function in
- 29:43Speaker 1: the pass game. He's not a plus player at either,
- 29:46Speaker 1: but he's good enough to function in both worlds. You
- 29:49Speaker 1: don't really have that with Kincaid. You don't really have
- 29:52Speaker 1: that with Hawes, although I think Hawes can be a
- 29:54Speaker 1: better receiving threat than he gets credit for. But Knox
- 29:57Speaker 1: is important, His type of tight end is important. I
- 30:01Speaker 1: just don't think you can pay what you're paying for that.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And I think you potentially find that role on the
- 30:08Speaker 1: open market or in the draft potentially, even though tight
- 30:11Speaker 1: end is a position that takes longer to develop, so
- 30:13Speaker 1: on and so forth. But it's just you can't commit
- 30:16Speaker 1: seventeen point one million dollars to Dustin Knox yes year,
- 30:19Speaker 1: next year. I mean you can literally, like in theory,
- 30:22Speaker 1: you can I just don't recommend it and don't think
- 30:24Speaker 1: you should. Huh okay, as fair comment here, Yeah, there
- 30:29Speaker 1: will be free agent tight ends available that can do
- 30:31Speaker 1: what Knox is doing now for less money.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:33Speaker 1: You essentially just need a tight end who is functional
- 30:36Speaker 1: as a run blocker against any and every body type
- 30:38Speaker 1: and then also functional as a pass catcher. You can
- 30:39Speaker 1: find guys who can do that role, and they're not
- 30:42Speaker 1: going to cost you seventeen million dollars a cap it,
- 30:45Speaker 1: unfortunately for Dawson Knox. Now this next segment, there's a
- 30:48Speaker 1: multitude of piece is built into this one. So I
- 30:51Speaker 1: want to talk about the contracts from a future perspective
- 30:53Speaker 1: because I know that's been a focus on a lot
- 30:56Speaker 1: of folks' minds with how poor the play is has
- 30:57Speaker 1: been from a lot of these guys who got extensions
- 30:59Speaker 1: last year with the Bill's contract situation is cap situation
- 31:03Speaker 1: is in general how much it hinders them and going
- 31:05Speaker 1: for trades, how much it hinders them in free agency.
- 31:07Speaker 1: And I think that's very fair. So that's why I
- 31:09Speaker 1: wanted to lead with that point. This next one is
- 31:11Speaker 1: a multitude of segments. Here I dis labeled it twenty
- 31:14Speaker 1: twenty five improvement slash hope. So these are things that
- 31:17Speaker 1: the Bills can realistically do for twenty twenty five to
- 31:20Speaker 1: improve themselves this year. Hot Wheels Corvette says, the Bill's
- 31:24Speaker 1: not knowing how to use Curtis Samuel is crazy to me.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Didn't Joe Brady want us to get him? You would
- 31:29Speaker 1: think so, because Brady was the OC full time when
- 31:32Speaker 1: they signed Samuel last year and brought him in. Brady
- 31:34Speaker 1: had him in Carolina, it was Samuel's most productive years
- 31:37Speaker 1: a pro. You would think those two things would join
- 31:39Speaker 1: together and mean that he wanted Samuel here and was
- 31:42Speaker 1: going to use him and get good production from him,
- 31:44Speaker 1: and that hasn't been the case for whatever reason. We're
- 31:46Speaker 1: going to talk about that more in a bit. So again,
- 31:49Speaker 1: this segment is focused on improvements that they can make
- 31:52Speaker 1: this year to kind of tweak some things, fix some things,
- 31:55Speaker 1: kind of mitigate some of the deficiencies and vulnerabilities they have,
- 31:58Speaker 1: kind of mitigate some of the flaws that they have
- 32:00Speaker 1: and or could get magnified even further. So that's what
- 32:04Speaker 1: we're going to focus on here again. As if folks
- 32:07Speaker 1: have any questions, thoughts, commons, concerns throughout these segments, feel
- 32:10Speaker 1: free to keep putting them in. Or if there's something
- 32:12Speaker 1: you think will help this team, or something you're concerned about,
- 32:14Speaker 1: whatever you got, put it into the chat. The first
- 32:17Speaker 1: thing I want to talk about, and this is very
- 32:19Speaker 1: This is the lowest hanging fruit. That's why I want
- 32:20Speaker 1: to lead off with it. Getting healthy. That will help
- 32:24Speaker 1: this team tremendously. Now. I don't say that from a
- 32:26Speaker 1: standpoint of it's a cure all and it makes everything better,
- 32:31Speaker 1: but getting healthy defensively and offensively now at this point
- 32:35Speaker 1: will significantly help this team. Defensively, you get TJ. Sanders back,
- 32:39Speaker 1: you get Christian Benford back again, even though he has
- 32:41Speaker 1: regressed a bit this year. TJ. Sanders, I don't think
- 32:46Speaker 1: he was necessarily peaking to the level that a lot
- 32:49Speaker 1: of folks are making it out to be before he
- 32:51Speaker 1: got hurt, and it was like, man, he was playing
- 32:52Speaker 1: some great ball before he went down. I don't think
- 32:55Speaker 1: that was the case. But I do think he's better
- 32:56Speaker 1: than the practice squad guys that you have coming up. Unfortunately,
- 33:01Speaker 1: he's not gonna help you with the run defense woes
- 33:03Speaker 1: that you have inside. But you know, that's how they
- 33:06Speaker 1: chose to build the Interier, and so it is what
- 33:08Speaker 1: it is. So getting Benford back, getting Sanders back, Shack
- 33:11Speaker 1: Thompson back, I think is very important for depth and
- 33:13Speaker 1: potential injuries that will likely happen again at some point
- 33:16Speaker 1: to Milano or Bernard's injury or injuries get worse and
- 33:20Speaker 1: he has to go down. Dory Williams is playing banged up,
- 33:22Speaker 1: so I think it's important to have Shack there for depth.
- 33:24Speaker 1: More importantly, I think Scheff Thompson has been their best
- 33:27Speaker 1: linebacker this year. I don't think that thought is unique
- 33:29Speaker 1: to me. I think he's their best linebacker right now
- 33:32Speaker 1: when healthy. I also think you get Shack Thompson back
- 33:35Speaker 1: and you sit Bernard and you let him heal up.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I think he's playing banged up, and I don't think
- 33:40Speaker 1: he's playing banged up from you know, a hurt standpoint.
- 33:43Speaker 1: I think he's legitimately injured and he's trying to gut
- 33:45Speaker 1: through it. They need to sit him and let him rest.
- 33:48Speaker 1: I don't know if that'll fix what he has going on.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I don't know how severe his injury is. I don't
- 33:52Speaker 1: know if it's an ir situation, end of the year situation. Rest.
- 33:55Speaker 1: A couple of weeks situation. Obviously he's playing through it now,
- 33:58Speaker 1: so you would think it's not end of the year.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I are worthy, but you know, stranger things have happened.
- 34:05Speaker 1: I think you get Shack Thompson back, and you sit
- 34:07Speaker 1: Bernard and you let him rest as much as you
- 34:09Speaker 1: can down the stretch, and you have a healthy version
- 34:11Speaker 1: of him, hopefully for the playoffs. So I think, but
- 34:14Speaker 1: worst case scenarios, you get Shack Thompson back and he
- 34:15Speaker 1: provides you quality depth. Should Bernard's injury get worse and
- 34:19Speaker 1: you have to, you know, excuse him from the lineup,
- 34:21Speaker 1: or Milano gets banged up again, or even Dorian because
- 34:23Speaker 1: you're gonna face some teams where you're gonna need base.
- 34:25Speaker 1: You're gonna need three linebackers out there, and I want
- 34:28Speaker 1: Shack Thompson there. But again, he's been their best linebacker
- 34:30Speaker 1: this year and he's currently their best linebacker. Get a
- 34:33Speaker 1: j Apanessa back, you get Taron Johnson back on the
- 34:35Speaker 1: offensive side of the ball, you get Josh Palmer, you
- 34:37Speaker 1: get daltonkin Kate. Now, again, I don't think these returning
- 34:40Speaker 1: players are a cure all and I do think they're
- 34:42Speaker 1: still gonna have vulnerabilities. You know again, I even talking
- 34:45Speaker 1: on the interior, like, get any t. J. Sanders back
- 34:47Speaker 1: is really helped, But it's not gonna cure the run
- 34:49Speaker 1: defense issues in the spine, Like, it's just not. But
- 34:52Speaker 1: he's a better player than the practice squad guys they've
- 34:55Speaker 1: been relying on and having to use because of the injuries.
- 34:58Speaker 1: There Again, it's not a cure all. They're still gonna
- 35:02Speaker 1: have vulnerabilities. But having a multitude of their better players
- 35:05Speaker 1: out matters a lot. Even if you hate Brandon Bean
- 35:09Speaker 1: in his roster development, even if you hate Sean McDermott
- 35:11Speaker 1: and you think he's terrible when should get fired, having
- 35:14Speaker 1: to rely on depth and practice squad guys is a
- 35:17Speaker 1: hindrance to any team. Now, you could play Devil's at
- 35:20Speaker 1: get and be like, yeah, well it's their fault forgetting
- 35:22Speaker 1: these guys, or playing these guys, or paying these guys
- 35:24Speaker 1: or doing whatever. I can't convince you otherwise of that.
- 35:27Speaker 1: But having a multitude of their better players out matters
- 35:33Speaker 1: a lot on both sides of the ball, especially considering
- 35:35Speaker 1: a bunch of those better players are at premium positions
- 35:38Speaker 1: and positions that are important. So again, getting those guys
- 35:41Speaker 1: back will raise the floor of the offense and defense,
- 35:44Speaker 1: and I think that will help next piece I want
- 35:48Speaker 1: to talk about here. I keep stumbling over myself because
- 35:52Speaker 1: it's the same word. They need more Curtis Samuel and
- 35:55Speaker 1: more Elijah Moore. We already spot now where the Buffalo
- 36:03Speaker 1: Bill's offense has kind of been found out a little bit.
- 36:06Speaker 1: We're going to talk about that further as we go forward.
- 36:08Speaker 1: It was mentioned earlier in the chat here. I mentioned
- 36:11Speaker 1: it throughout the offseason. Is one of my biggest concerns.
- 36:16Speaker 1: If you stop the Bills run game or slow it down,
- 36:19Speaker 1: this offense is newt Like, That's just what it is
- 36:21Speaker 1: at this point. They do not have guys on the
- 36:24Speaker 1: outside that strike fear into defenses. They do not have
- 36:28Speaker 1: guys that can consistently win outside and or deep in
- 36:32Speaker 1: this offense. Now, I do think seeing more of Curtis
- 36:38Speaker 1: Samuel and seeing more of Elijah Moore from a snapshare perspective,
- 36:42Speaker 1: from a routes run perspective, can mitigate some of the
- 36:46Speaker 1: stresses on this offense as a whole. Both of those
- 36:50Speaker 1: guys have the opportunity to stretch the defense a little bit.
- 36:53Speaker 1: And I'm going to say this line because I've said
- 36:55Speaker 1: it so much. I know Curtis Samuel's time forty speed
- 36:57Speaker 1: is I don't think he's necessarily I don't think he
- 37:00Speaker 1: plays as fast as that time speed indicates. I don't
- 37:04Speaker 1: think he's like a ninety seven Madden speed like his
- 37:06Speaker 1: forty time would indicate. But he does have some gravity.
- 37:09Speaker 1: He can pull defenders, he can stretch the field a
- 37:12Speaker 1: little bit. Elijah Moore can do similar things, and I
- 37:15Speaker 1: think he's a better route runner than Curtis Samuel. I
- 37:17Speaker 1: think he's one of the better route runners in the
- 37:19Speaker 1: wide receiver room. I think Palmer is the best route
- 37:21Speaker 1: runner in the wide receiver room. And I think it's
- 37:24Speaker 1: between More and Shakir for number two, although they're different
- 37:27Speaker 1: type of rout runners and different type of players. Either way,
- 37:31Speaker 1: I think you need to see more Elijah Moore and
- 37:32Speaker 1: more Curtis Samuel less from a gadget standpoint, even if
- 37:36Speaker 1: it's you know, just to pull the defense and clear out.
- 37:39Speaker 1: You know, if it's just to occupy some guys and
- 37:41Speaker 1: create space between the second and third level, or actually
- 37:43Speaker 1: give him some shots downfield on some deep posts, you know,
- 37:46Speaker 1: some deep comebacks, some deep outs. You need to see
- 37:49Speaker 1: more of them. I got some numbers for what we've
- 37:52Speaker 1: seen thus far from the wide receiver room. When you're
- 37:55Speaker 1: looking at the Buffalo Bills wide receivers from a snaps
- 37:58Speaker 1: per game perspective, again, this is snaps per game. This
- 38:01Speaker 1: takes into account games that these players played in. This
- 38:04Speaker 1: isn't like total games the team has played. So if
- 38:07Speaker 1: you're looking at Josh Palmer, it's factoring in the six
- 38:09Speaker 1: games he played in, not you know, the nine games
- 38:13Speaker 1: that the Bills have played in. So this is snaps
- 38:15Speaker 1: per game for the Buffalo Bills wide receivers. In first
- 38:18Speaker 1: is Keon Coleman at forty eight, second is Khalil Shakir
- 38:22Speaker 1: at forty two point seven, Third is Tyrrel Shavers at
- 38:25Speaker 1: thirty six, Fourth is Curtis Samuel at twenty nine point six,
- 38:29Speaker 1: fifth is Josh Palmer at twenty nine point five, and
- 38:32Speaker 1: last is Elijah Moore at twenty point one. Now, if
- 38:36Speaker 1: you want to look at a routes run standpoint from
- 38:39Speaker 1: a per game standpoint, even from a volume standpoint, I'm
- 38:42Speaker 1: gonna give you both. So the first number is going
- 38:44Speaker 1: to be total routes run in volume. The next number
- 38:48Speaker 1: the fraction one or the decimal one is going to
- 38:50Speaker 1: be the per game routes run. Khalil Shakir two hundred
- 38:54Speaker 1: and fifty three routes twenty eight point one per game.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Keon Coleman two hundred and forty five routes twenty seven
- 39:00Speaker 1: point two per game. Josh Palmer one hundred and sixteen
- 39:05Speaker 1: routes run nineteen point three per game, Tyrol Shavers ninety
- 39:08Speaker 1: two routes run ten point two per game, Elijah Moore
- 39:11Speaker 1: eighty seven routes run ten point nine per game. Curtis
- 39:15Speaker 1: Samuel sixty nine routes run nice thirteen point eight per game. Now,
- 39:20Speaker 1: before anybody says anything, Josh Palmer getting hurt in that
- 39:23Speaker 1: Atlanta game that affecting it his numbers, it does. He
- 39:27Speaker 1: had six offensive plays that game. I forget how many
- 39:30Speaker 1: routes run he had in that standpoint, But essentially it
- 39:35Speaker 1: doesn't change much. If you eliminate those snaps from that
- 39:38Speaker 1: game and those routes run and that game completely, it
- 39:41Speaker 1: doesn't change too much. He's still behind Shaver and Keon
- 39:45Speaker 1: in terms of snaps per game, so he's still behind
- 39:48Speaker 1: both of them, although he would jump Curtis Samuel by
- 39:50Speaker 1: a little bit, so he'd be fourth in terms of
- 39:52Speaker 1: snaps per game, and then he'd still be behind Keon
- 39:56Speaker 1: and Shakir in routes run per game, but he would
- 39:58Speaker 1: still be in third. They need more juice and capability
- 40:02Speaker 1: at wide receiver. Two of the top three snap getters
- 40:06Speaker 1: for their wide receiver room and I say this with
- 40:08Speaker 1: no disrespect because you know they're still NFL players. Two
- 40:12Speaker 1: of their top three snaps per game guys at wide receiver,
- 40:15Speaker 1: and I understand Palmer's been banged up. I understand Curtis
- 40:18Speaker 1: Samuel was banged up and may still be banged up. Whatever.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Two of your top three snap getters are Keon Coleman
- 40:24Speaker 1: and Tyrol Shavers. Neither of them offer you what you
- 40:28Speaker 1: need from a pass catching standpoint. Now, I am a
- 40:33Speaker 1: run first guy. I am an established run type of dude.
- 40:37Speaker 1: I believe in that thoroughly. That doesn't mean I believe
- 40:40Speaker 1: you shouldn't pass the ball, and I recognize the metrics.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Don't let anybody yell at me for any of that
- 40:44Speaker 1: kind of stuff. But despite me being that guy and
- 40:48Speaker 1: recognizing Keon Coleman and Tyrol Shavers are both bigger body types,
- 40:51Speaker 1: they're both good run blockers. They can dig out safeties.
- 40:54Speaker 1: They can mash corners and nickels, and they can even
- 40:56Speaker 1: crack on some edges and do some stuff against some
- 40:58Speaker 1: backers at times, right or some big Nichols or some safeties,
- 41:02Speaker 1: despite their affinity for that area of the game. And
- 41:07Speaker 1: I know the Bills want bigger bodies at wide receiver
- 41:10Speaker 1: forour run blocking and for marrying the run in the past.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I think Curtis Samuel and Elijah Moore can do a
- 41:16Speaker 1: fine enough job as run blockers, plus be much more
- 41:19Speaker 1: viable as pass catchers. So I don't think they're going
- 41:22Speaker 1: to be, you know, up here in terms of run blocking.
- 41:25Speaker 1: I don't think they're going to be, you know, an
- 41:26Speaker 1: eight out of ten as run blockers, but I think
- 41:28Speaker 1: they can be a six or a six and a
- 41:30Speaker 1: half and then that's only like a two to one
- 41:33Speaker 1: and a half difference potentially, And then as pass catchers,
- 41:37Speaker 1: I think they're I don't know. I think Coleman right
- 41:39Speaker 1: now is like a three or four at best. I
- 41:42Speaker 1: think Shavers is probably a three or four at best.
- 41:44Speaker 1: I think Samuel, you know, and that's at best. You
- 41:46Speaker 1: could make a case there are two two and a
- 41:48Speaker 1: half or maybe two and a half to a three,
- 41:50Speaker 1: I think more, and Samuel can give you a six
- 41:52Speaker 1: six and a half seven there, So I think it
- 41:56Speaker 1: averages out from their run blocking differential to their pass
- 41:59Speaker 1: catching threat and differential. They need more juice and capability
- 42:03Speaker 1: at wide receiver. I know everyone's down in this wide
- 42:06Speaker 1: receiver room, and I don't think you know. Elijah Moore
- 42:09Speaker 1: and Curtis Samuel right now? Are these two huge different
- 42:12Speaker 1: makers difference makers? But I both I think both of
- 42:15Speaker 1: them are viable NFL wide receivers, and you need to
- 42:19Speaker 1: try and do something different at that wide receiver position.
- 42:22Speaker 1: You need more juice, more capability, more viability at wide receiver.
- 42:27Speaker 1: You need guys who can win one on one on
- 42:30Speaker 1: the outside and or win deep. And yes, Josh Palmer
- 42:34Speaker 1: coming back should in theory significantly help this. But your
- 42:37Speaker 1: top three snap getters, you got to change that a
- 42:40Speaker 1: little bit. It can't two of the three can't be
- 42:42Speaker 1: Coleman and Shavers. And again, I know there's been some
- 42:45Speaker 1: injuries to guys and so on and so forth, But
- 42:47Speaker 1: Samuel and Moore I don't think should just be gadget guys.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Elijah Moore should not just be the Jets sweep guy.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I think he's got much more capability to his game
- 42:55Speaker 1: than that. Now, I again don't I'm not sitting here
- 42:58Speaker 1: and saying more in Samuel. Are these all pros that
- 43:02Speaker 1: are sitting on the bench, or these Pro Bowl players
- 43:04Speaker 1: that are sitting on the bench, and they're these huge
- 43:06Speaker 1: different makers and I can't believe the Bills are sitting them.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I don't think they are those guys. But I do
- 43:11Speaker 1: think they add more juice capability and viability from a
- 43:15Speaker 1: pass catching standpoint, from a route running standpoint, from a
- 43:18Speaker 1: stretch the field, you know, play supporting roles and do
- 43:24Speaker 1: things to help clear out space for other guys. I
- 43:27Speaker 1: think they do that more than Keyankoleman and Tyrol Shavers.
- 43:30Speaker 1: And the Bills need that because if they continue to
- 43:35Speaker 1: struggle to win outside and or deep, everything is going
- 43:39Speaker 1: to continue to get constricted. Defenses are going to focus
- 43:42Speaker 1: on the run and sell out against the run. Defenses
- 43:45Speaker 1: are not going to be afraid to leave their corners
- 43:47Speaker 1: on islands no matter how good or bad they are.
- 43:51Speaker 1: It's just going to keep getting tighter and tighter. Defenses
- 43:53Speaker 1: are going to sit and hit their drop, but no,
- 43:56Speaker 1: Allen's probably gonna check it down you know, we have
- 43:58Speaker 1: to get to like ten to twelve yards, but we
- 44:00Speaker 1: know Allen's probably gonna throw it at four yards or
- 44:03Speaker 1: five yards that we can come up and rally. You
- 44:05Speaker 1: have to start to create separation between the first level
- 44:08Speaker 1: and the second level, and then between the second and
- 44:10Speaker 1: third level. You need to push the ball down field
- 44:13Speaker 1: at some point. The threat has to be there. Ideally,
- 44:16Speaker 1: you have to find some success there just chucking it
- 44:18Speaker 1: downfield for the sake of chucking it downfield. As somebody
- 44:21Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, those are lower percentage throws, so it comes
- 44:24Speaker 1: with an inherent risk. You can't just start chucking it
- 44:26Speaker 1: downfield and think that's going to work, especially with Allen
- 44:29Speaker 1: who has struggled to throw the ball downfield a little
- 44:31Speaker 1: bit for the past several years. But that element has
- 44:34Speaker 1: to be present. There has to be some kind of
- 44:36Speaker 1: threat to start to loosen up defenses. Somebody mentioned earlier,
- 44:39Speaker 1: I think it was Charles. It seems like there's an
- 44:41Speaker 1: umbrella capped on this defense that are on the Bills
- 44:43Speaker 1: offense at like twenty yards or twenty five yards. I
- 44:45Speaker 1: think it's even like lower. I think it really is
- 44:47Speaker 1: like fifteen to twenty just keeps everything there, and then
- 44:51Speaker 1: with Samuel and Palmer and more, you have three better
- 44:57Speaker 1: route runners than Kean Coleman and tyrosh I know what
- 45:00Speaker 1: Shavers and Coleman bring as blockers, and I do think
- 45:03Speaker 1: that's valuable, but they're just not giving you what you
- 45:06Speaker 1: need as pass catchers right now, and that is hindering
- 45:10Speaker 1: the entire offense as a whole, because despite the fact
- 45:12Speaker 1: that Shavers and Coleman are good run blockers, everybody's keen
- 45:16Speaker 1: on the run game so much and the type of
- 45:18Speaker 1: run game that you have, which I'm also going to
- 45:19Speaker 1: talk about in a minute, that there's really no net
- 45:22Speaker 1: positive there for them being in the game as run blockers.
- 45:24Speaker 1: You're just not getting it done. And again, I think
- 45:27Speaker 1: they need to upgrade this wide receiver room in the offseason.
- 45:31Speaker 1: I think they need a dude and or multiple B
- 45:35Speaker 1: plus kind of guys. Whether that comes at free agency
- 45:37Speaker 1: of the draft, I don't care. They just need to
- 45:40Speaker 1: alter this room a little bit. But where they're sitting
- 45:43Speaker 1: right now, you know, key On Coleman cannot be your
- 45:46Speaker 1: highest snap get or at wide receiver. He can't be
- 45:48Speaker 1: your second leader in terms of routes run in volume
- 45:52Speaker 1: and per game you can't have that. You got to
- 45:55Speaker 1: change that up at this point. And again I think
- 45:58Speaker 1: that'll start to loosen some things up in the defense
- 46:00Speaker 1: a little bit. And part of the reason you need
- 46:02Speaker 1: to get more snaps from more and Samuel. It's not
- 46:05Speaker 1: just like because someone out there might be like, oh,
- 46:06Speaker 1: you know what, why can't you just keep having Shavers
- 46:10Speaker 1: and Coleman be those dudes keep running the ball, and
- 46:13Speaker 1: then you put more in Samuel when they passed the ball.
- 46:15Speaker 1: It starts to get tendency. You start to have tendencies
- 46:17Speaker 1: and tells and things kind of being given away. That's
- 46:20Speaker 1: why I mentioned the offseason it was important to get
- 46:22Speaker 1: you know, speed and verticality in the top of the
- 46:24Speaker 1: depth chart for the Bills wide receivers, so that way,
- 46:28Speaker 1: when you have somebody in there, they're in there a
- 46:31Speaker 1: lot and they could be run blocking, they could be
- 46:33Speaker 1: going deep, they could be running a screen, they could
- 46:35Speaker 1: be doing something underneath and intermediate. Having a more complete
- 46:38Speaker 1: wide receiver at the top of your JEP chart and
- 46:40Speaker 1: or somebody with speed, it reduces the tendency and the
- 46:44Speaker 1: tell for when they are in the game. It kind
- 46:45Speaker 1: of goes the example, you know mvs. Marquez Valde Scantling
- 46:48Speaker 1: didn't do much with the Bills last year, went to
- 46:50Speaker 1: the Saints, caught a bunch of deep balls. He was
- 46:53Speaker 1: a tell and a tendency when he came in, because
- 46:55Speaker 1: almost every time he came in for the Bills, I
- 46:57Speaker 1: was like, Oh, well, that dude's probably going deep. And
- 46:58Speaker 1: then so the teams knew he was going deep, and
- 47:01Speaker 1: it might stretch things a little bit, but there is
- 47:03Speaker 1: predictability with it that, there is tendency, there is tell,
- 47:06Speaker 1: all of that kind of stuff. So give me more Curtis, Samuel,
- 47:09Speaker 1: give me more Elijah, more out wide on the field,
- 47:12Speaker 1: I don't care. I think they have the ability to
- 47:14Speaker 1: stretch the defense a little bit and help loosen up
- 47:17Speaker 1: defenses against this offense and give you some productivity. And again,
- 47:20Speaker 1: whatever's going on with Samuel, maybe he is still banged up.
- 47:23Speaker 1: I don't know. It's crazy to me that they brought
- 47:24Speaker 1: him in knowing his year with Brady and Carolina and
- 47:28Speaker 1: how good they were, and every time he's in there
- 47:32Speaker 1: again he's not even. He has the lowest amount of
- 47:35Speaker 1: routes run at sixty nine this year, and he's got
- 47:39Speaker 1: thirteen point eight routes run per game. That's only three
- 47:42Speaker 1: point six more per game than tyrrel shapers. That should
- 47:45Speaker 1: not be happening in any circumstance like that should not
- 47:48Speaker 1: be happening. No disrespect to tyrol shapers. He's just not
- 47:50Speaker 1: there as a pass catcher and as a route runner.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Although he did have a really nice route in the
- 47:54Speaker 1: low red zone against Miami on the interception that Alan
- 47:58Speaker 1: threw on that stick concept. But conversation uh for another time. So, yeah,
- 48:05Speaker 1: this wide receiver room was really frustrating. Claude says, what
- 48:07Speaker 1: if Keon was put in the slot, would that help him?
- 48:10Speaker 1: The problem with putting Keon in the slot is when
- 48:12Speaker 1: you were in the slot, a lot more disaster you mentally,
- 48:17Speaker 1: because the game is coming at you faster and from
- 48:19Speaker 1: a more complex standpoint. You have to read coverages and
- 48:23Speaker 1: leverage faster and quicker and accurately when you are in
- 48:27Speaker 1: the slot. I'm not saying you can't do that. I'm
- 48:32Speaker 1: saying that's just hard. Like that's part of what made
- 48:33Speaker 1: Cole Beasley so great. The way he saw the game
- 48:36Speaker 1: was so high level. That's part of what makes Shakier good,
- 48:39Speaker 1: why he's so good on those option routes. And those
- 48:41Speaker 1: leverage routs, which they need to get more of in
- 48:43Speaker 1: the offense. They had too many under Doorsey Dorsey's. My
- 48:46Speaker 1: biggest problems with Dorsey were twofold one. He didn't run
- 48:49Speaker 1: the ball enough and commit to the run game when
- 48:51Speaker 1: it was good, because it was already good in twenty
- 48:53Speaker 1: twenty three. He just didn't commit to it enough. That
- 48:55Speaker 1: was one big problem too. A lot of the passing
- 48:57Speaker 1: concepts were option based, and they didn't have the dudes
- 49:00Speaker 1: to run that offense. He wanted to run that offense
- 49:02Speaker 1: like they still had digs and bees and brown and
- 49:04Speaker 1: they didn't have that. That's tough to constantly ask dudes, Okay,
- 49:08Speaker 1: on this play, you're gonna read the coverage and based
- 49:11Speaker 1: on what happens, we'll tell you what to run the
- 49:13Speaker 1: what route to run, because you have to. You need
- 49:14Speaker 1: your receivers to all see the same thing at the
- 49:16Speaker 1: same time and the quarterback to see the same thing
- 49:18Speaker 1: at the same time as your receivers. So Brady came
- 49:22Speaker 1: in and ran more full field concepts, progression concepts, you know,
- 49:26Speaker 1: mirrored concepts on both sides. You know, you had that
- 49:30Speaker 1: kind of baked in more. You need more option stuff.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Now you need more leverage read stuff. And Shakir again
- 49:37Speaker 1: excels at that kind of stuff, reading coverage, reading the
- 49:40Speaker 1: leverage and knowing like okay, oh he's doing apes. That
- 49:43Speaker 1: means I do beat up. He did beats That means
- 49:45Speaker 1: I do see like he's good at that. Keon again,
- 49:49Speaker 1: we haven't seen it, so I don't know. I know
- 49:51Speaker 1: the whole power slot thing. I do think it could
- 49:54Speaker 1: help him a little bit. But you know, if he's
- 49:56Speaker 1: in the slot, that means Shakiir probably isn't or Kincaid
- 49:59Speaker 1: probably isn't. And I think both of those dudes are
- 50:01Speaker 1: better than the slot than Keon, And the game comes
- 50:03Speaker 1: that you a lot faster and harder mentally when you
- 50:06Speaker 1: are on the slot, and that's a tough piece. Bills
- 50:10Speaker 1: are electrics, says. In my opinion, we have to trade
- 50:12Speaker 1: for a vible wide receiver in the off season, drafting
- 50:14Speaker 1: a guy late in the first rounds roll of the dice.
- 50:16Speaker 1: I think that's fair. But I would really like Carnel
- 50:19Speaker 1: Tate from Ohio State. Oh that rhymes. I don't think
- 50:22Speaker 1: they're gonna get Tyson from ASU. Tate is an option potentially,
- 50:25Speaker 1: or maybe Denzel Boston I haven't even gotten into college
- 50:27Speaker 1: football team. I can't speak on it at this point,
- 50:29Speaker 1: but I do think there are some options at the
- 50:31Speaker 1: end of the first round. But I do like your
- 50:32Speaker 1: idea of just getting yourself a known quantity, a viable
- 50:35Speaker 1: wide receiver, kind of like what they did with Stefan
- 50:38Speaker 1: Diggs a couple of years ago. Go out and get
- 50:39Speaker 1: yourself somebody who's already proven and already a known quantity,
- 50:42Speaker 1: instead of getting somebody up to speed and or developing
- 50:45Speaker 1: them and or having a dart throw that the draft is, Oh,
- 50:51Speaker 1: Bills are electric, saying Palmer wise Samuel wide, I don't
- 50:54Speaker 1: care where you put key on. That's fair. That's fair. Yeah.
- 50:58Speaker 1: So at the end of the day, I think you
- 51:00Speaker 1: need you need more Elijah Moore, and you need more
- 51:04Speaker 1: Curtis Samuel, and I still don't think that's amazing. Like
- 51:08Speaker 1: I don't love the idea of being like, hey, you
- 51:10Speaker 1: know what'll save the Bills passing game, Curtis Samuel and
- 51:13Speaker 1: Elijah Moore and Josh Palmer. But what they're doing right now,
- 51:18Speaker 1: it's not working, and it's starting to hinder the run game,
- 51:21Speaker 1: which was one of my biggest fears coming into the
- 51:24Speaker 1: offseason that their passing game and their receivers would not
- 51:28Speaker 1: be viable enough to make defenses honest and prevent them
- 51:32Speaker 1: from just stacking against the run and playing run first
- 51:35Speaker 1: and committing against the run. And also, while we're kinda
- 51:38Speaker 1: on that subject, a couple of weeks from now, that
- 51:40Speaker 1: Thursday night game against Houston, they're gonna sit and single
- 51:45Speaker 1: high and they're gonna say, we dare you to beat
- 51:47Speaker 1: Derek Stingley and Kamari Lasseter, we dare you to do that.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And they're gonna try and hurt the Bills on first
- 51:53Speaker 1: and second down and get him into third and long
- 51:55Speaker 1: or third and known passing situation, and they're gonna let
- 51:58Speaker 1: the Neil Hunter and will Anderson hunt. That game is scary.
- 52:01Speaker 1: I am so fearful. And again they're an extreme example
- 52:04Speaker 1: because Stingley is one of the best corners in the league,
- 52:06Speaker 1: would probably be an easy CB one in the entire
- 52:09Speaker 1: NFL if now for patzer Tan and Kamari Lassiter is
- 52:12Speaker 1: sick on the other side too, And then they can
- 52:14Speaker 1: play single high with a bullock who's so good as
- 52:17Speaker 1: a rangey free safety can still really tackle, but you
- 52:19Speaker 1: let him be free safety who it's gonna be interesting.
- 52:22Speaker 1: That game against Houston is a scary one coming down
- 52:24Speaker 1: the play. That's one I think it's going to be
- 52:25Speaker 1: a really good test, whether Palmer's back or not. But
- 52:29Speaker 1: if you start to incorporate more, More and Samuel. I
- 52:32Speaker 1: want to see them go up against Houston. What can
- 52:34Speaker 1: they do against Stingley and Laster, one of the better
- 52:37Speaker 1: c one of the better corner tandems they're going to
- 52:38Speaker 1: face the entirety of this year and especially down the stretch.
- 52:42Speaker 1: That's a good test for what they can do with
- 52:44Speaker 1: the receiver position and what they can do from a
- 52:46Speaker 1: run pass standpoint against a good defense who's trying to
- 52:49Speaker 1: make them one dimensional. I can get after them in
- 52:51Speaker 1: both ways. But yeah, more Elijah Moore, more Curtis Samuel. Again,
- 52:55Speaker 1: that's an improvement. That's a hope. I don't think it
- 52:57Speaker 1: out of all of a sudden propel this team forward.
- 53:01Speaker 1: But you just can't keep living with Keon Coleman as
- 53:06Speaker 1: your second highest routes run in volume and routes run
- 53:11Speaker 1: per game and have him live in as your highest
- 53:13Speaker 1: snap getter at wide receiver per game and Tyrol Shapers
- 53:16Speaker 1: being third. You need more. You need more no pun
- 53:22Speaker 1: intended from your receivers from a juice and capability and
- 53:25Speaker 1: viability standpoint as pass catchers, and I think More and
- 53:28Speaker 1: Samuel are your best hope at that next piece is
- 53:31Speaker 1: a little bit of a low hanging fruit and kind
- 53:33Speaker 1: of general, but I think it's important to know because
- 53:34Speaker 1: they've been playing good. So another improvement and or hope
- 53:38Speaker 1: for twenty twenty five down the stretch, Cole Bishop getting
- 53:41Speaker 1: better and Max Harston getting better if they both continue
- 53:46Speaker 1: to improve the more time on task they get while
- 53:48Speaker 1: continuing to make splash plays and maybe even more splash
- 53:51Speaker 1: plays as they get more time on task and build
- 53:54Speaker 1: more confidence. It's pretty self explanatory for what that does
- 53:57Speaker 1: for the defense, especially for this year and beyond. I
- 54:01Speaker 1: know Harriston had an up and down performance against Miami.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Waddle got him a couple of times because Wattle is sick,
- 54:06Speaker 1: but Harriston also got him a couple of times, and
- 54:09Speaker 1: he was right there stride for stride on Bishop's interception.
- 54:12Speaker 1: He was right there stride for stride and got his
- 54:14Speaker 1: own interception later in the game. Harrison's play has been
- 54:17Speaker 1: really encouraging, and again there are some ups and downs.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Why because He's a rookie who just played in what
- 54:21Speaker 1: his third NFL game, and the first two games he
- 54:25Speaker 1: was platooning, so this was his real first game as
- 54:28Speaker 1: a full starter. He saw some snaps the live bullets
- 54:31Speaker 1: the first two weeks, didn't get a training camp, didn't
- 54:33Speaker 1: get a preseason. He's still learning as he goes. I
- 54:37Speaker 1: think you're pretty happy with the return on investment right now,
- 54:39Speaker 1: given how he's played now. In theory, the more time
- 54:43Speaker 1: on task he gets, the more he plays, he should
- 54:46Speaker 1: get better. Hopefully he continue to see the splash plays
- 54:49Speaker 1: and the you know the and not even high variants,
- 54:52Speaker 1: but the splash plays, and then he the floor goes
- 54:54Speaker 1: up and he starts to reduce the amount of time
- 54:56Speaker 1: that he gets letting guys into his blind spot, getting
- 54:59Speaker 1: turned around a little bit. Yes, he has the speed
- 55:01Speaker 1: that can recover. I mean he even recovered well on
- 55:04Speaker 1: the touchdown to Wattle. The issue was he just kind
- 55:06Speaker 1: of panicked, flailed a little bit. Granted to a hung
- 55:09Speaker 1: that ball up in the air, but he recovered. All
- 55:11Speaker 1: he had to do was get his head around. He
- 55:13Speaker 1: could have made a play on that ball, but he
- 55:15Speaker 1: just kind of panicked. That should in theory you know,
- 55:17Speaker 1: get him more time on task, get more comfortable, less panic.
- 55:21Speaker 1: He got beat, his recovery speed got him back in
- 55:23Speaker 1: line with Wattle again two under through that ball a
- 55:25Speaker 1: little bit. But he's got the speed that will keep
- 55:28Speaker 1: him close to anyone and everyone even if he does
- 55:31Speaker 1: get beat. But if you can reduce the amount of
- 55:33Speaker 1: beatings that happened for him mentally or physically, that's really encouraging.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Bishop continues to play well. Jordan Hancock, I'd like him
- 55:41Speaker 1: to get some more reps. He's you know, I think
- 55:43Speaker 1: he's progressing fine. Not some standout, but I think he's
- 55:46Speaker 1: a you know, potential good investment for twenty twenty six
- 55:48Speaker 1: and beyond because I don't think Rappers are starting safety
- 55:50Speaker 1: next year and it's definitely not Jordan Poyer. So you
- 55:52Speaker 1: might either have to go into the draft or if
- 55:54Speaker 1: you think you have Jordan Hancock, that's cool, then you
- 55:56Speaker 1: don't have to dip into the draft or the free
- 55:58Speaker 1: agent pool. We'll see what happens there. But Cole Bishop
- 56:01Speaker 1: has been improving week to week. I still think he's
- 56:03Speaker 1: best in and around the box and the closer to
- 56:06Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage that he gets. But you're starting
- 56:08Speaker 1: to see him make some plays from death, you know,
- 56:11Speaker 1: coming forward and going back. I still do think he's,
- 56:14Speaker 1: you know, got to work on some of his angles
- 56:15Speaker 1: coming forward and what he's seeing and processing. But he's
- 56:18Speaker 1: starting to trust his eyes a little bit more. He's
- 56:21Speaker 1: starting to trust his processing a little bit more. He's
- 56:23Speaker 1: processing well, quickly, accurately, making some reads. He's starting to
- 56:27Speaker 1: jump some routes. He's starting to let his athleticism tie
- 56:31Speaker 1: into how he plays because of what he's doing mentally.
- 56:34Speaker 1: So really encouraging stuff from Cole Bishop and Max Harston.
- 56:37Speaker 1: And if they continue to stay on this upward trajectory,
- 56:39Speaker 1: I think they do a lot for the ceiling of
- 56:42Speaker 1: the Bills defense in twenty twenty five, but then even
- 56:44Speaker 1: more so going forward in twenty twenty six and beyond.
- 56:47Speaker 1: Really really excited for that. They continue to flash, and
- 56:51Speaker 1: they just need to continue to stay on that trajectory,
- 56:53Speaker 1: especially Bishop, who, for whatever reason, since it's been him
- 56:56Speaker 1: employer in the lineup, he's had to jump in his game.
- 56:58Speaker 1: He's making plays athletically and mentally. It's nice to see.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Dylan says, do you think the Bills actually make the
- 57:08Speaker 1: changes or do you think they're just going to keep
- 57:10Speaker 1: the same rotation. I think you put this in when
- 57:12Speaker 1: I was still talking about the wide receivers. I truthfully
- 57:15Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know how you you don't try
- 57:22Speaker 1: something different. You know, the whole definition of insanity is
- 57:24Speaker 1: doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I do think Brady can keep the same rotation, and
- 57:31Speaker 1: by mitigating some of the predictability and getting a bit
- 57:34Speaker 1: better with concept and design and sequencing, the offense can
- 57:39Speaker 1: take a jump. But I don't see how you don't
- 57:41Speaker 1: just try and mix up the receiver room. Considering the
- 57:44Speaker 1: returns you're getting right now through the air from Keon
- 57:46Speaker 1: and CO, I don't see how you don't try something different.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Whether or not they will, I don't know. I mean
- 57:52Speaker 1: this is also I'm also the same guy that said, hey,
- 57:55Speaker 1: they keep getting gashed in the run and they need
- 57:57Speaker 1: run stuffers on the interior. And they said, ha, thought,
- 58:00Speaker 1: let's get more three checks and go for penetration. And
- 58:03Speaker 1: they keep getting bounced out the club week in and
- 58:05Speaker 1: week out and getting gashed, and they continue to do
- 58:10Speaker 1: that year after year. They have their archetypes, they have
- 58:14Speaker 1: what they like. When I think they need to zig
- 58:17Speaker 1: and the world thinks they need to zig. They just
- 58:19Speaker 1: stam pat and they zag. So I truly don't know
- 58:23Speaker 1: if they actually make the changes I think they need to.
- 58:26Speaker 1: I don't know if they think they need to. It's
- 58:28Speaker 1: a great question, and I'm frustrated just thinking about it.
- 58:31Speaker 1: Bills are our electrics said, when do we swap out
- 58:33Speaker 1: Bernard for Shaq Thompson. I mentioned this a little earlier.
- 58:36Speaker 1: I think as soon as Shaq Thompson is healthy, you
- 58:39Speaker 1: put him in there, because he's been your best linebacker,
- 58:41Speaker 1: and you let Bernard rest because he's hurt. You just
- 58:43Speaker 1: let him bank, you let him bang up, you let
- 58:45Speaker 1: him sit on the sideline and get healthy. I don't
- 58:47Speaker 1: think you're gonna have to ir him, but you let
- 58:50Speaker 1: him rest. One. I think Shack has been your best
- 58:52Speaker 1: linebacker and is playing better than Bernard right now. Two.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Bernard is clearly hurt. Let him get healthy. Maybe once
- 58:57Speaker 1: he's healthy he'll go back to being one of your
- 58:59Speaker 1: better players on defense. But I think as soon as
- 59:01Speaker 1: Thompson is healthy, you get him in there. That's been
- 59:06Speaker 1: our says. As cold Bishop been used differently with Poyer,
- 59:07Speaker 1: it seems like Bishop has been a more traditional strong safety,
- 59:10Speaker 1: even dying back a lot of plays last three weeks. Yeah,
- 59:12Speaker 1: some of his really cool plays, especially that Kansas City game,
- 59:15Speaker 1: were him playing in and around the box, matching up
- 59:18Speaker 1: against tight ends, playing as that buzz safety and the
- 59:21Speaker 1: hook and the hook curls and the curl flats. I
- 59:24Speaker 1: think a lot of it is more tied to having
- 59:27Speaker 1: the presence of Cam Lewis, a degree who can play safety,
- 59:30Speaker 1: but I would say it's more with Jordan Hancock because
- 59:33Speaker 1: having Hancock gives you another guy deep from a range
- 59:36Speaker 1: and athleticism perspective that makes you feel comfortable keeping Bishop
- 59:40Speaker 1: more in and around the box. Plus he's much better
- 59:42Speaker 1: in and around the box with his size and athleticism
- 59:44Speaker 1: than Hancock is. So I think when Poyer's on the field,
- 59:48Speaker 1: despite the fact that he's not the player physically that
- 59:51Speaker 1: he was, he's still a high level player from an
- 59:53Speaker 1: IQ standpoint in terms of getting the defense set making
- 59:56Speaker 1: the calls. I think he's helped give Bishop confidevidence in
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: what he's doing as a player from a mental standpoint,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: allowing him to play fast and play free and play
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: with his athleticism because he's freed up mentally. I think
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Poyer has helped a bit with that, not necessarily used differently.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: You think you're still seeing Bishop deep, you're still seeing
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: him in the box, You're still seeing single high stuff,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: split field stuff. But I do think Poyer has had
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: a calming presence on the back end for the secondary
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: and for the defense as a whole. And then I
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: think when Hancock's in the game, they feel more comfortable
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: having a rangy guy back there and allowing Bishop to
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: come and just kind of be that big nickel monster
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: man buzz safety robber coming forward like he was at Utah.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Marty says, dude, they still need a ballhawk to balance
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: with Bishop or his Hancock sufficient In an ideal world,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I'd like a true, known quantity range ballhawk free safety.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I think Hancock could get there. The tough thing with
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Hancock is, you know, if you followed him at Ohio
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: State and watched Ohio State last year, so you had him,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: you had Caleb Downs, who I love, and you had
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Leith and Ransom. I forget what his first name is,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: but you had Ransom the third safety. They essentially ran
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: three safety NonStop at Ohio State. Sometimes Hancock was a nickel,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: sometimes he was a deep safety. They would weaponize Caleb Downs.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: They do some really cool non traditional Tampa two shifts
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: and spins where a lot of times Downs was the
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Tampa player kind of playing top down, which was really cool.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: But you'd get Hancock as like a nickel and a safety,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: so he hasn't played a ton of like traditional safety,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: like Bill system kind of safety. I still do think
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: he's developing and needs time on task. I think he's
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: got some range. I think he's got some tackling ability.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: I would prefer a known quantity at the safety position,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: but I think he could develop into the free safety
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: esque rangeyes, type of safety deep safety that they need
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: to really free up Bishop, And that's what I really want,
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: because again I think Bishop is progressing, you know, playing
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: further from the line of scrimmage, with how good he
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: is in and around the box. Give me a safety
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: with the eyes and the processing and the range to
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: live as a single high safety and let Bishop just
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: do work as a box safety as much as you want,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: which will also help against the run because you have
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: more numbers in the box. And then if you've got
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Benford getting back to what he can be and Harriston
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: being what he can be. You can live on islands
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: and either Cover one or Cover three, have that sweet
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: ballhawk rangey safety in the post, and then have Col
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Bishop doing matchup stuff against tight ends, running backs, blitzing
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: zone man, whatever the hell you want, while knowing Bishop
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: can still drop deep as a single high post safety
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: or can drop deep into some split high looks. So
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: I do think they need a ballhawk to balance with Bishop.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: I do think they need that. I think there's a
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: chance Handcock can become that guy. I'm just not fully
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: there yet. We need to see more of him doing that,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: and if they could get a known quantity to pair
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: with him, I would take it. What else do we get?
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Rock and roll blues? Is The lack of energy on
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: offense reminds me the Dorsey area. Yeah, it's funny how
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: a lot of the sluggishness and the stuck in neutral
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: stuff that they're going through now with Brady is reminiscent
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: of the time in the Dorseat. Craig says, just joined,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: so sorry if I already discussed, but why not get
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Cooked way more involved and Ty Johnson more involved in
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: the pass game. Also, maybe roll more rollouts and moving pockets.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Those are great questions. I don't know. I've said similar
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: things for several weeks and they're not happening. I do
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: think what's interesting in the past game, a lot of
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: the ways they got their running backs involved were on
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: those rail routes, specifically off mesh. You know, so mesh
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: if you don't know, you get like essentially those two
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: those two drags, one shallow one a little still underneath
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: but above the shallow. Then you get that over the
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: ball sit route that's essentially a mesh and how the
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Bills run it most of the time. But they pair
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: that with the running back out of the backfield being
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: the first read in mesh rail and he'd run that
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: wheel route or that rail route up the sideline. They
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: feasted on that with Cook ray Davis. They did it
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: under Dorsey a bit. They did it under Brady a
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: ton like that was his main go to. Defenses have
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: caught onto that this year, so they're trying. They're taking
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: away that rail a lot. The Bills hit it once
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: against Miami. I think it was the second play of
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: the game. They hit it when it was that second
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: and ten and they got eight yards on it. Second
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: play of the game. The defender didn't get over the
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: top in time. Allen saw Cook pinned it on him
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: right away and Cook got like eight yards. But a
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: lot of times defenses are undercutting it and getting into
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: it or getting over the top of it and deterring
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: the throw. And aside from that, Brady hasn't done a
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: ton to get the running backs involved. It's like that's
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: his only way to get the running backs to the ball.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: But I do think they need to get the running
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: backs more involved. I do think they need to get
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Tied Johnson more involved in the past game, and they
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: need more and more rollouts. They need more moving pockets.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: I also think you tie that into more play action,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: which they also need. I don't know why Brady is
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: impressing those buttons, especially with some of the protection setting
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: issues they've had and known passing situations kind of getting
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: them into problems. But Brady loves traditional five man protections
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: and have an Alan and McGovern essentially sort it out.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: But I think those are all great questions. I do
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: think they need to do all those things. They are
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: just not and it's really frustrating. Oh this is a
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: cool question, and I don't know the answer. Who are
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: the worst? Whose are the worst and best matchups in
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: the playoffs as a wildcard team for the Bills. Honestly,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: I know the struggles they've had. Just don't hit face
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Kansas City or Baltimore, and I don't care. Don't face
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Kansas City and Baltimore. That's all. That's all that I want.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Indianapolis with their running game is a problem for the
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Bills defense and their defense now with Sauce if they
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: get healthy with Buckner, lou An Arumo is a big game,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: you know, coach. I think, aside from not wanting to
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: face Kansas City and Baltimore, I would rather not face
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: the Colts because of Anna Rumo on defense, some of
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: the studs they have on defense, and that running game
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: on offense. So I would like to avoid the Colts.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: Broncos have a great defense, but I'm not really too
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: fearful of the offense. No Jinks, Chargers man, Steelers man,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: if they even get there. Who else? Yeah, it would
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: mainly be I don't want to play Baltimore, I don't
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: want to play Kansas City, and then I don't want
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: the Colts. But I wouldn't mind the Colts. But yeah, okay,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Jason says, any good running team. James says, Aunt loves
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: the buck Eyes. I hate Ohio State hate him. I
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: don't know if I've ever said that. I am a
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: for those who don't know, I'm a Miami Hurricanes fan,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: and I will forever hate Ohio State for the two
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: thousand and two national championship that Miami was robbed of.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: It should have been back to back. It should have
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: been done and dusted. They got screwed on that pass
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: interference call in the end zone. Should have been back
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: to back national titles for the Miami Hurricanes. But you know, yeah,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: so I Maurice Corett and Craig Crenzel and that stupid
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Ohio State team. Yeah, I will forever hate Ohio State
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: although they although I love Caleb Downs and they do
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: have some sweet dudes. I hate Ohio State. M hmmm.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: Pop says, if you don't know Mess, you don't watch
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: the film. And that's right, that's right by Adrian. Oh well,
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: let me get it this one first, as Entro says,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: how come we don't have running back screen or we
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: don't see it that often? Josh Allen isn't good at
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: running back screens. He's not good at the tempo and
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: the timing of it, and he's not good at throwing
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: the ball and the trajectory in the manner in which
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: you need to throw it to make a screen successful. Also,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: because he's a mobile threat, you don't get a lot
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: of teams that just sell out and go, hey, one
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: gap penetrate, let's attack the quarterback, and then oh, the
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: ball's over our head and you know, we're screwed down.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: A lot of times it's eyes on Alan and guys
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: focusing on rush lane integrity. When you have that, you're
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: kind of already playing somewhat safer and more under control.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: So screens don't work necessarily against defenses like that. But
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: I do think the biggest thing, because it's been undertable,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: it's been underdoor seat, it's been under Brady, they don't
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: have a great running back screen game because Alan isn't
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: good at the timing and the tempo of it and
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: the body language and the throat trajectory needed. Yeah, Adrian says,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: is the problem that Josh Allen is not taking the
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: underneath stuff or nobody is truly getting open. Unfortunately, it's both.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: I do think there's stuff available underneath that Allan is bypassing.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: There are times when it's second and ten and you know,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: he's got a five yard completion right there, or it's
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: third and ten and he's got a six or seven
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: yard completion and maybe you can go for it on
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: fourth down. Little things like that. I also think from
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: a deep ball and an ear an intermediate standpoint, there
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: have been some options that have been opened in the intermediate,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: the high intermediate, or even deep areas and he hasn't
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: taken those. He's you know, taken the checkdowns or kind
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: of the underneath stuff. So I think overall is just
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: a decision making overall, But I do think, you know,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: in this past game against Miami, there was some opportunity
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: for more stuff that was open and Alan just didn't
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: hit it and he bypassed it, or his eyes were
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: in the wrong place, or you know, he got confused
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: by the coverage and wasn't able to hit it. But
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: separation is an issue. They don't have a bunch of
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: guys that are just beating dudes left and right. And again,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: I think a lot of it is tied to what
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: I said, like Kean Coleman isn't routing dudes up and
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: separating Tyrol Shavers isn't routing dudes up and separating. Dawson
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Knox isn't routing dudes up and separating, like Palmer's your
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: best separator, and he's been hurt. Palio Sekiir, they only
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: want to use him around the line of scrimmage. Kinkaid's
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: a missmass creator and then he got banged up. But
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: there's only so much you can do with him because
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: he's a tell or a tendency giveaway because of what
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: he is or isn't as a run blocker or an
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: in line tight end player. So there's all these kind
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: of like mitigating factors with things, which is why I
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: want to see more and more and more Curtis Samuel
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: because I think Elijah Moore and Curtis Samuel can separate
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: a bit more, give you more juice and give you
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: more more space and capability because of their athleticism and
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: route running and speed. So yeah, it's that you're gonna
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: get this answer to me from a lot for a
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: lot if you haven't already watched the show before. Very
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: rarely for me, and this is a mey thing. This
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: is what I believe football is. Very rarely is a
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: problem tied to any just one thing. Very rarely is
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: it A or B or C. Usually it's a mix
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: of both to some degree and some level. Everything is
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: so interconnected and woven together that it's hard to just
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: parse out one specific thing as being the holistic problem.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: So I do think recently Alan has not taking the
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: free profit enough. But I also do think there are
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: separation issues and guy's not coming open, and I think
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: this is a bit of a chicken egg scenario, and
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: I hope I'm not Galaxy bringing this too much. I
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: think the separation issues and guys not coming open is
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: part of what is in Alan's head and part of
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: the reason he's playing skittish because he doesn't trust that
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: guys are gonna be where he needs them to be.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: He doesn't trust that guys are going to get open,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: so he evades earlier than he has to, or he
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: looks away from somebody because he doesn't trust that somebody
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: is gonna come open or be in the spot they're
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: gonna need to be. So I think then you can
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: then it kind of then you kind of get into this,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, chicken and egg scenario where it's like, Okay,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: is he not taking the stuff or is nobody getting open?
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Is the problem? You know, nobody's getting the ball because
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Allen's not getting to them because they're not getting open,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: and they kind of just go like round and round.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: But right now, it's a bit of both, especially if
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: you're coming off that Miami game. It's a bit of both.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: And I do think also within that is Joe Brady's
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: predictability and lack of creativity and sequencing and layering. But
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: conversation for another time. M rfl rees plus sunny styles.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: I wish the Bills could get re There's no chance
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: in hell they get There's a chance they could get
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: styles and might need to, you know, because Milan was
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: probably gone. But I don't think you could spend a
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: first or second round pick on a linebacker if you're
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: this Bills team. But man recently so nasty. I as
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: a Miami guy, give me a Ruben Baine all day.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: I would try. I know, I know nobody wants defense
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: in the first round, and I know they need receivers.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Give me Ruben Baine all day. Man just plays the
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: run compressor, but athletic with some dip and some bad Oh,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: dude is a monster and it has been since he
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: was a freshman. All right, this will tie it this
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: comment here, we'll tie in my next point here, how
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: whals Corvett says, are we looking at a watered down
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: version of a Joe Brady offense in order to satisfy
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: a defensive coach philosophy of offense to keep the defense
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: off the field? I understand the thought process for this,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: given how McDermott is and who McDermott is, but I
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: don't think so. And granted there's a chance, right, it's
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: hard to know for sure, and I think it's a
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: fair question to ask, you know, given the lack of
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: building or diversity in this offense versus last year is
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: kind of concerning, to the point that if you wanted
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: to play Devil's advocate, you could be like, well, the
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: reason the offense hasn't changed is because the way it
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: was last year is exactly what McDermott wants, and that's
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: what McDermott wants. But hearing some of the things McDermott
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: has said, I just I don't think, you know, he's
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: essentially like kind of puppet mastering the offense. And then
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: if you even look at on the other side. Again,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: you can play Devil's advocate in a multitude of ways. Here.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: If you're looking at how the Bill's defense is built,
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: the Bill's defense is built to stop the pass. In
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: previous years, they've invited the run because they recognize that
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: stopping the pass and stopping explosives is the number one thing.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Their interior is built to rush the quarterback and get penetration.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: Their interior is not built to stop the run. I
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: know they recognize the importance of it, and this has
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: been a the philosophical annoyance of mine. Their defense on
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: the interior is not built to stop the run in
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: any way, shape or form. They are literally built to
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: rush the qb and stop the pass first and foremost,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: and whatever happens against the run is whatever happens against
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: the run. So it's funny that they would build the
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: defense that way, but then have an offense that isn't
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: built to pass the football at all, or doesn't want
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: to pass the football at all. I do think running
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: the football is very important in today's NFL because of
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: the pendulum swing that has gone on and the times
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: of flat circle nature of offenses versus defenses. I think
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: you need to run the football in today's NFL. I
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: think you need condensed formations and bigger body types at
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: wide receiver and heavy personnel, and you need to create
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: advantages with formation and alignment. A lot of what the
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: Bills do, a lot of what the Rams do, what
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: the Lions do, what the Packers do. I know the
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Packers had a bad performance last night, but they're still
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: good offense. And Lafleur is still a good mind. What
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Shanahan has done in San Francisco, Like a lot of
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: what are these top offensive minds, Ben Johnson, so on
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: and so forth, all this kind of stuff, right, the
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: Bills turn their offense into that mold. The Bills offense
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: is very much in vogue with what is successful in
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: today's NFL. The issue is they may be swung the
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: pendulum too hard to the run to the to the
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: degree that they sacrifice too much of the pass game,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: or the vertical aspect of it at least. But I
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: think this is plausible. I just don't think that's what's happening.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: It's just hard for me to think that Sean McDermott
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: and Brandon Being believe in building a defense priority to
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: stop the pass and then on the offensive side of
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: the ball, they're just gonna want an offense that doesn't
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: pass at all, or that they don't care about the
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: pass in any way, shape or form. I just I
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: don't see those things meshing or marry, although it is possible,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: right And I do think Sean McDermot wants you to
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: run the ball, but I don't think he wants it.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: His whole thing is balanced between the offense and defense,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: but even within each unit itself, especially on the offensive
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: side of the ball. So I don't think he's happy
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: with this offense. But that's a fair thought to have.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: Oh Owen says, who's your favorite wide receiver coming out
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: this year? Oh, it's so I haven't even started to
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: like rank and fully tape evaluate. If I had to
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: go off broadcast footag which is kind of a lie,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Tyson from Arizona State is probably my one. I don't know. Yeah,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: I like Jordan Tyson and I like Carnel Tate from
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: Ohio State. Again that rhymes they're close for one and two.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: I don't know. I like them both exactly. From marj
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Here says this team doesn't even really have a sing
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: one single one tech even Dayquon isn't a true one
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: tech such a great point ed Oliver goes down and
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: they flex day Quon to the three tech and he
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: kills at it. Why because Daikuon is still more of
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: a three tech than he is a one tech. But
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: he's the starting one tech in the Bills defense because
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: everybody's a penetrator. They don't really have true one tex.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: They want penetrators, they want shooters, so everything is based
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: off of upfield penetration, pop juice, triggering gap shooting, getting
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: after the quarterback, getting upfield. I just find it hard
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: to believe they build a defense that way and then
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: do the opposite when it comes to offensive velocity. Joey says,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: two dimensional offense is great except when you get behind
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: by fourteen points and the dimension you need is your weakest. Well, yeah,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: but if that dimension is that week, you're not two dimensional.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I don't think the Bills offense right now is two dimensional.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: I think the Bill's offense is one dimensional. It's the
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: run game, and if the run game doesn't work, they're screwed.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: And that was again my biggest fear, one of my
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: biggest fears coming into the season, two dimensional offense. Means
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: you're viable in both the run in the past. I
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: don't think they're viable in the past right now. So
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: they're not two dimensional. The Bills are very much game
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: script dependent, which absolutely sucks. And that's saying something because
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: they were game script dependent last year and it's even
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: worse this year. But hopefully with the injuries, we'll see
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: and things will get better. And also too, you look
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: at how this one more thing on like the McDermot
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: Brady aspect without this Bill's defense is built. This Bill's
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: defense again is built to play coverage and rush the quarterback.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: They want to get out to a lead. They want points.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: They need points because this defense is designed to play
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: with a lead. This defense is designed to play against
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: the Chiefs offense and play with the lead, play against
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: teams that have had to move away from the run
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: because of game script. So McDermott wants explosives. He wants points.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: If they come through the ground or they come through
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: the air, he doesn't care, but he wants points. He
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: needs points because that scoring on offense helps complement the defense.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: I don't think it's necessarily run the football to keep
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: the defense off the field. They're running the ball because
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: they have a great offensive line and a really good
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: run game, and that's why they want to run the football.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: But I think that's another great example as well, like
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: they their defense is much better with a lead and
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: playing in front and playing with a big lead, like
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: they want to be up by fourteen or seventeen points.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: So the offenses have to be like, oh, well, we
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: can't run the ball now, we got to throw. And
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: that fits into what the Bills defense needs because the
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: Bills defense and are not a good run defense team.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: They're not good tackling against the run, and they're much
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: better rushing the QB and playing coverage. And you can
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: do that when you have a lead and you get
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: out in front early and often. Yeah, Okay, this next piece,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I want to talk about less predictability on offense. I've
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: mentioned it several times. To have this episode, this one
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: is really tied to Joe Brady. I'm gonna talk about
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: some of the schematic pieces here for a minute. Like
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: but one of my favorite plays that they that's a
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: new play that they've added this year is if you
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: follow me on social I tweet about it almost every
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: week whenever they run it. Last Counter YF. For those
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: who don't know, essentially, this is what it is they
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: usually do it from. It doesn't have to be from
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: an offset I or a strong eye formation, but this
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: is usually how they run it. So Allen is under center,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: James Cook is in the dot. You have Reggie Gilliam
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: offset either to the left or the right, so offset I,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: strong eye that's where Reggie Gilliam comes in. And then
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: also two Gilliam's side is Jackson Hawes. If you're starting
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: to picture this as I describe it more, you'll see
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: it right. So strong eye formation, Gillium and the offset
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: or the strong spot. Jackson Hawes as the tight end.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: But Jackson Hawes is off the line of scrimmage. Right
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: before the snap, Jackson Hawes will go in motion right
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: behind Allen. That's the blast motion aspect. He will go there.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: He will kick out the defensive end. Reggie Gilliam will
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: take a step forward, crossover and follow Hawes. He will
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: lead James Cook through the hole. James Cook. If the
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: run is going left, he'll step right and then go left.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: If the run is going right, he'll step left and
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: go right. That's where the part of the counteraction comes in.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: So try to picture that together. If you search my
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: Twitter handle or on Blue Sky, you'll see a ton
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: pro pro ant, blast counter, pro ant blast whatever. They
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: run that play a ton and it works for them,
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: and it's good. The issue is they've run it so
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: much from the same presentation, defenses have largely keyed in
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: on it. Now. James Cook is good enough and this
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: offensive line is good enough that even when teams close
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: down on the gap where it's supposed to go, Cook
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: can find success somewhere else. But I think that play
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: is such a good microcosm of what they are because
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: they've telegraphed it at this point. Because when they send
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: Hawes in that blast motion heavy majority of the time,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: you can bet it's going to be that blast counter
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: and then when you see Gillium follow him even more so,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: that play is such a good microcosm of what they
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: are because that play is just to tell. As soon
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: as you see the blast motion again, you can highly
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: bet it's coming even before that, just formationally, it's a
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: tell with that offset or strong eye formation and Hawes
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: in line but off the line of scrimmage. Sometimes Hawes
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: is the only tight end. Sometimes he's hipped off a
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: Dawson Knox and you're in twenty two personnel, So it
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: could be twenty one personnel, it could be twenty two,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: but it's still that strong eye formation or that offset.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: I oz goes in that blast motion, there goes Gillium boom.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: They need more very ability there overall in the offense,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: but with that play in particular, and that's why it's
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: such a good microcosm for a lot of the run
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: game and even some of their passing concepts as well.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: They run so much double China where you got those
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: two inbreaking routes like both at like five yards. Some
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: people call it a Finn concept because of five yards
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: an inn. But you'll have three receivers do a side
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: and the outside guy, the number one, runs five yards
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: and in. The inside guy the number two run five,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: runs five yards and in and then the number three
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: guy on the inside he runs that corner route which
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: is the seven where you get double China seven, or
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: he'll run vertical, run a post. They run so much
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: double China stuff again, either with the seven or a
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: post or a vertical. They run so much mesh, They
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: run so much curl flats and they get to it
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: sometimes differently, like who's going to be the seven route
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: in double China seven? Or who's the curl, who's the flat?
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: You know from personnel and sometimes with short motion, but
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: it's a lot of just the same concepts and teams
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: do this in general, right, Everybody pretty much runs the
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: same stuff, and everybody has their hits that they like
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: to get to and play. But you got to dress
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: up the presentation and Situationally, they've gotten predictable with their presentation.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: They've gotten predictable. There's been too much from a tel standpoint. Again,
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: the run the run examples are great, Like they become
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: so predictable with some of their run stuff, like where
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: you see a formation, I can see a formation and
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: I can call out the run, and I would say,
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: like eighty percent of the time I'm right in what
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: run is coming. And when it's working, it's hilarious, right
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: because it's like, oh my god, they keep running this
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: same run from the same look and the defense can't
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: stop it. Ha ha ha. That's not happening anymore. More
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: often than not, the defense is snuffing it out. They're
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: moving a current accordingly, and they're going right to where
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: that run is supposed to go, and the Bills are
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: kind of getting screwed off because of it. I mean
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: even some of the midzone stuff against the Dolphins this
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: past weekend. He had one with actually two with Benito
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: Jones number ninety five, where he's playing on the nc's
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: pl You know, it's it's mid zone week. So let's
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: say in this instance, they're running to the left. Benito
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: Jones is in a one tech or two I. He
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: feels that center go away from him to lead the zone.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: As soon as that happens, he shoots. Immediately he sees
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: the centers away, so he squeezes his A gap into
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: the other a gap. Jordan Brooks fits off of him
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: and shuts Cook down at the line of scrimmage or
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: behind it because they're seeing They're like, oh, here comes
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: we think we already know what's coming. Here's that first indicator. Yep,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: that's exactly what it is. Let's shut it down. They've
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: gotten predictable with a lot of their run concepts in
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: terms of the concepts they're running one but two from
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: the presentation that they are running them from. When I
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: say presentation, I mean the formation, the personnel, the alignment.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: You can look at and say it's not even just
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: like ooh, I think this is coming. It's like, yeah,
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: this is probably coming. There's a difference between someone like
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: having like, ugh, you know forty or fifty percent odds
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: that this is what's happened, and that's still high, but
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: you're like, eh, I think it's more like you can
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: know seventy to eighty percent of the time what run
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: concepts are coming. And the Bill's O line and run
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: game is so good that they're still able to get
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: out it that sometimes even with that predictability, but against
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: better teams and against teams that have played them before
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: and have them scouted well, it started to become a
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: death sentence. And then that run game starts to get slow.
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: That doesn't work what we talked about earlier. They don't
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: have the guys on the outside that strike fear from
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: you know, winning on the outside and or vertical or deep,
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: so that everything gets constricted, it gets tight, so on
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: and so forth, and then we have all these problems.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: So they need less predictability on offense. And again that
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: blast counter YF is and why WHYF? For those who
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: don't know, you know it's YF because the Y is
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: the first man and the f or Reggie Gilliam is
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: the second. So the why refers to Hawes and the
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: F for first to Gillium. That is just such a
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: great example. They've gotten predictable with that concept, and they've
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: gone predictable a lot with their offense, even even from
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: the run standpoint of you know, predictability of it always
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: being on. James Cook, I tweeted out earlier. Actually let
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: me go grab that tweet right now because I didn't
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: put it in my notes. Run the ball, oh with
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: Ray Davis, Run the ball with Ty Johnson. James Cook
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: amongst sixty eight qualifying running backs with at least one
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: hundred snaps, he's fifth in touches with one hundred and ninety,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: and he's third in touch rate at fifty three point
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: two percent touch rate his carries plus catches divided by snaps. Now,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: I get it, because he's become a really good running back,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: and I still think he's getting even better, and he's
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: your clear number one. I get it. But you can
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: still run duo with Ray Davis and have him be
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: a hammer and get downfield. You could still run a
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: bunch of stuff with Ty Johnson or do some play
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: action stuff with Ty Johnson, or let him get out
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: into a route, run some angle routes or some option routes,
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: you know, do some stuff out of the backfield. They
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: can use the running backs in some varied ways and
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: not just Okay, we're gonna run the ball with Cook
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: and then take Cook out and pass it. Like even
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: that is starting to get a little bit predictable. They're
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: getting predictable with concepts. They're getting predictable with even personnel,
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: but more so formation and alignment. And you're seeing it
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: a lot in the run and some in the past
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: as well. Also tying in that someone mentioned it earlier,
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: the under set versus shotgun stuff. They have a twenty
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: point eight pass rate when under center. That is twenty
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: ninth in the league. So that means twenty one percent
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: of the time when they're under center they're passing the ball,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: which means eighty nine, no, seventy nine percent of the
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: time they're running the ball when they're under center. That's
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: a huge ratio. So eight out of ten times when
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: they're under center they're going to run the ball. And
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: then so think about this, right, let's kind of play
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: it like that, right, roughly eighty percent of the time
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: when the Bills are under center, they are running the football.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: So you already start with that, Oh they're under center,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: all right, cool odds are they're running the ball, so
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: you can key in on the run. Then you look
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: at the personnel and the alignment and the formation, and
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: because they're starting to telegraph their run concepts based off
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: of alignment and formation and are personnel and all of
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: that tying into you know, presentation, the motions, the shifts,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: the alignments, all of it, you can start to whittle
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: that down further. So you see they're under center, it's
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: probably gonna be a run up. They're in that offset
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: or strong eye. Where's Jackson Hawes there is ooh, he's
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: offline a little bit. That blast counter is probably coming.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: And you can do that for all their run concepts
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: because of how they present them. And again when I
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: say present them, I mean personnel, formation, alignment. You look
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: at shotgun. When they're in shotgun, they have an eighty
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: point five percent pass rate, which is six highest, So
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: it's pretty easy to tell when they're in shotgun they're
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: gonna throw the ball. When they're under center, they're probably
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: gonna run it. Then they have a nineteen point four
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: play action rate, which is twenty seventh. It was criminal
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: last year when they didn't have a higher play action rate.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: It's still criminal this year, which starts to make me think.
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: I know some people mentioned it last year. Maybe Josh
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: Allen doesn't like turning his back to the defense, Maybe
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: he doesn't like play action. I don't know, but he's
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: driving me insane that they have this really good running
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: game and they don't spam play action. They don't run
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: boot legs, they don't move the pocket, especially if they
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: started to incorporate more outside zone this year, and that
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: pairs so well with bootleg and Josh Allen, get him
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: on the move, take advantage of the run game and
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: try and suck some defenders in. Oh they did. And
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: you can dump it off to somebody on a slide
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: route for a quick, easy six or seven yards cool.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Or you can hit someone on a crosser or in
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: the intermediate cool. Or you can maybe take a shot
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: and generate an explosive even better, Or guys are dropping
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: with the route distribution cool, and Josh Allen can run
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: for a nice five or six yards lean into those
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: things also predictability, first down run rate or first down runs.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: I should say they're running a ton on first down.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: There lasting pass rate on first down at thirty seven
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: point three, and I don't think that's super criminal because
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: it's like, oh, they have Josh Allen, they should be
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: throwing the ball more, but sixty three percent of the time,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: essentially they're running the ball on first down. Those are
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: heavy odds, heavy numbers. And then again you tie it
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: into like, Okay, it's first down, they're probably gonna run
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: the ball up. They're under center, They're definitely gonna run
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: the ball up. Here's this alignment. This is what run
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: concept is coming welly like, it all starts to compound
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: when it comes to predictability and tendencies and tells. I
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: mentioned them needing more play action. I do think they
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: need that and they need to marry it with their
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: run concepts. I'm going to use that blast counter YF
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: as another example. Against Miami. They ran a blast counter
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: YF play action that presented just like their actual run.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: You saw Hawes in line, but off the line of scrimmage.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: You saw Reggie gilliam in that strong eye or that
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: offset eye alignment to Hawes's side, Alan taps his foot,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Here goes Hawes and blast motion. Here goes gilliam in
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: that step to lead it through, but it's actually play action.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: The second level gets sucked up. Dalton Kincaid slips behind
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: the second level and Alan pins it right on him.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: They need more play action in general, but they need
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: more of that kind of play action play action concepts
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: that mirror their run concepts with how teams are keyed
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: into the Bills run game and underneath passes. This is
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: a very low entryway or entry point into giving yourself
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: some breathing room and potentially creating easy buttons and explosives.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: So they need more play action overall, and they need
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: to have that play action marry with their run concepts.
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: They need that same presentation and have it be a
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: play action pass to start to put defenses into hell
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: a little bit. Also talked about getting more Elijah Moore
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: talked about getting more Curtis Samuel. If the wide receivers
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: aren't cutting it, and the passing stuff isn't cutting it,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: you need to just lean into your heavies, lean into
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: thirteen personnel. Once cancate us back lead into twenty two
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: and just mash teams. I know it's not sexy. I
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: know people don't want that because, oh hey, it's Josh Allen,
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: He's the MVP. We should be chucking it all around
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: the field for advanced metrics reasons or just in theory
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: or whatever. I get it, and I understand this team
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: is not built to chuck it around the field. They're
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: not built to chuck it thirty to forty times a game.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: They're not built to live and spread and dice teams
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: up through the air. They are built to run the football.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: So just lean into it, go heavy, mash the hell
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: out of defenses, lean into Reggie Gilliam and Jackson Hawes,
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: and then go play action from there. Put more bodies
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: attached to the line of scrimmage because your run game
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: menu increases because of what you have upfront. Try and
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: force defenses into base, and if they don't, they still
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: want to stay in nickel. You're probably gonna have the
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: run advantage and you can mash guys and if they're
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: going to try and match with heavier bodies and personnel,
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: that's where you lean into the play action. That's where
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: you lean into those concepts. Get more tight end leaks,
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: tight end delays take advantage of Dawson Knox's athleticism by
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: getting him matched up against a true linebacker and sending
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: him on a sale route or sending him on a
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: corner route or a drag where he can run away
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: from someone. Get Dalton and Cave, you know, attached to
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: the formation but not really so he could really run
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: a route, or have him kind of be in an
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: exploded tight end alignment on the formation or be that
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: quasi X and see who gets matched up against them
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: and who you pull from the box if you're not
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: getting it done with you. That's also kind of where
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: I'm at too, Like instead of using like, okay key
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: on Coleman Entyrol Shavers as your blockers and have them
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: be out there because they're good blockers, and I get it,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: they're out there and they could block, but their receivers
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: so they could also catch passes, and that's a bit
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: more of are we gonna run or are we gonna pass?
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: I'd rather just put Gilliam and Hawes out there and
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: just mash the hell out of teams and then go
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: play action off of that. And I don't think it's
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: an ideal situation. Because Hawes isn't some immaculate route runner
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: or some great passed although I do think he is
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: more explosive and bursi than he gets credit for. Gilliam
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: can do some things out in the flat on some
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: pass stuff, but you just you gotta have some kind
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: of variability, you know, either commit to that, I think
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: and that for me, that's like the last case scenario
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: was fully leaning into that heavy stuff like the Rams.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: I know a lot of people are using this example.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: Like the Rams use a ton of thirteen, which is cool,
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: but they've got three tight ends that are capable as
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: blockers and pass catchers with Higbee Davis and or Davis
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: Allen and uh dude, that's a rookie from Oregon Ferguson.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: So you've got like three dudes that can block but
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: also catch some passes. The Seahawks they go heavy. They
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: use a bunch of twelve. They use a bunch of two,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: like two running back looks or with an actual traditional
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: fullback and the stuff that they can do. Detroit's been
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: doing it for years, like, but they've got the body
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: types for it, and better body types and theory than
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: what the Bills have. You just have to limit your predictability,
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: you have to vary things up in a variety of ways.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: And so again I mentioned all the things like more
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: and Samuel how that ties into it, but so much
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: of it is just the predictability of where they've gotten
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: to or where they're at as an offense. And I,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: you know, I appreciate the kind words that are said
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: about me from you folks in the chat, or the
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: people that say nice things about me on social or
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: the people who do this like you know, like just
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: general people who follow the work, or actual professionals or
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: players that I work with are analysts. Like we've said
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: kind words. It's super cool to like hear when people
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: say like, oh, yeah, you know ball or this, and
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: that that's super cool. I me, I should not be
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: able to watch a game and be like, oh, this
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: is the run that's coming that shouldn't happen. Because if
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: I can do that as a person who does this
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: because he just loves football and works a day job
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: and puts time into this whenever I can. If I
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: can do that, imagine what the professionals who get paid
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: to do this, who know exponentially more than I will
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: ever know, and who live in that space, and who
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: prepare and whose lives are built on stopping an offense.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: Imagine what they can pick up, both in the coaching
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: staff and the players. I'm just some guy. I'm some dude.
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: And if I can watch a game on Sunday and
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: be like, here comes last counter up, here comes du well,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: here comes mid zone week. If I can do that, bro,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: imagine what a defensive coordinator can do, or a linebackers coach,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: or an actual player at whatever spot like or all
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: of them. Imagine that Like that's I put a lot
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: of time and effort to studying like this game, not
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: just for the Bills, but football in general, the schematics
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: and the x's and o's of it. So I think
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: I do have a pretty good or advanced knowledge of it.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: I should not be able to do that. And if
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: I can do that, that means the pros are It's
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: even easier for them because they probably don't have to
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: double check themselves. Man, It's just it's crazy how we've
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: got here, because last year there was they were layering
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: well and sequencing well, and they had this They were
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: very again similar to this year. They're very in vogue
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: with the type of offense that was needed to succeed
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: in today's NFL, and they just didn't really build on it,
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: and now we're just here and blah, it's tough. It's tough.
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: But yeah, the big things were improvements or hope for
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: this year, for twenty twenty five, and tying into beyond
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: a little bit going forward. Got to get healthy, right.
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I know that's low hanging and not an answer than
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: anybody wants to hear. And again, I don't think getting
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: healthy is going to be a cure all for this team,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: because even when the guys come back that were their
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: starters on paper coming into the year, they're still going
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: to have certain deficiencies and vulnerabilities. But once they get
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: healthy and they get those guys back, the floor for
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: this team raises, which I think is important. So one,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: get healthy, two more Curtis Samuel, and more Elijah Moore.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: In terms of snaps and routes per game. You cannot
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: continue to live with as much Keon Coleman and Tyrol
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: Shavers as you are getting, Especially from a Keon Coleman standpoint,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: He's just too limited. And the Bills right now, especially
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: being six and three fighting for a playoff spot, still
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: trying to claw back in the division. They do not
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: have the luxury of having a guy get time on
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: task at the top of the depth chart for a
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: passing offense that's struggling. They don't have that luxury. Whether
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: or not that's fair to Keon Coleman, We're past that.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: Sorry like that. It is what it is. They can't
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: keep living in that space. So more Curtis Samuel, more Elijah, more,
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: more juice, more capability, more route running, more potent to
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: stretch the field, create some threat for all three levels
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: of the defense and make the defense have to honor
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: things that they really haven't been honoring the past couple
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: of weeks or this season for the Bills weapons. So
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: that's number two for improvements or hopes. My notes just
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: went away because I accidentally scrolled up cole Bishop continuing
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: to get better, Max Harston continuing to get better. If
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: they can keep making splash plays while they're doing that,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: that's awesome. But if they continue to each raise their
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: floors and mitigate the mistakes and the holes and the
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: blown coverages or the mistakes and technique or eyes, that
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: in and of itself is awesome. But if they can
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: continue making splash plays while raising the floor goodness, gracious
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: and then less predictability on offense is a big one.
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: Like I talked about for multitude of reasons from a schematic,
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: standpoint personnel, standpoint run concepts, past concepts, players they use
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: under center, shotgun, first downs, play action, all of that
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: last little piece here. I'm just gonna mention it. I
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: wasn't gonna do a whole segment on it. Sean McDermott
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: Brandon Bean. I've talked about him before on the show.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: I'm still at the same spot. If Sean McDermott goes fine,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: if he stays fine, My answer is always if Sean
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: McDermott goes or someone who says Sean McDermott sucks, get
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: him out, Okay, who are you replacing him with? And
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: if the answer is always just like, oh, it doesn't matter,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: he's so terrible he sucks, that's not true. I think
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: Sean McDermott is a better than average coach in this league.
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: I like that he's taking over the defense more. This
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: defense has been much better since he took over, even
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: with having to play practice squad guys and bench guys
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: and depth guys and having them play critical roles. They're
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: a much better defense with him calling the defense and
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: running the defense. I would like to see that more.
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: I'd like to see him tap into that and lean
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: into that more. But if you want Sean McDermot gone,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: I get it, and I understand. I just want to
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: know who you're replacing him with. And I also want
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: you to know that whoever you replace him with to
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: guarantee that it's better. And if your thought is that's fine,
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: because Sean mcdermot's never going to get over the hump,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: I get it. More power to you. I just think
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: the grasses an't always greener. On the other side, this
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: is a bigger conversation for another episode. I do have
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: some of the issues with the roster building of this team.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: I don't know how much of it is being versus
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: Sean McDermott. If you watch this show regularly, you already
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: know how I feel, especially from an offseason standpoint. The
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: guys that I want them to draft, the free agents
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: that I want them to go after. Yeah, it's it's
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: it's scary at times for me with how frustrated I
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: get with how they refuse to kind of change or
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: tweet things for certain sum of their archetypes. But I
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: don't know how much of it is being I don't
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: know how much of it is McDermott. I know Bean
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: has had misses. I also know he's had hits. I
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: also know that nobody bats a thousand. If you want
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: being gone, I get it. I understand, and I extend
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: that same thing to McDermott. I am fine either way.
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: I just don't think the grass is going to its
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: necessarily going to be as green on the other side
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: as everybody think it thinks it may be. And you
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: know with this comment here, and I'm guessing this is
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: reference to McDermott based on when you sent it. But
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: you trust But do you trust him to get us
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: over the hump? I don't know, honestly. You know what
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: I probably mean, know, like, and I'll say it from
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: the hump, from like a big game standpoint, like if
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: you get to an AFC championship. I'm sitting there and
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: I'm like, is McDermott gonna make a mistake? That's how
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: I kind of feel. But I tell you, at the
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: same time, on the opposite side, with him fully running
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: the defense, I trust him to have to run a
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: really good defense in the playoffs, especially if he's running it.
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: And now this is a good comment here from Jason.
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: I like, I love I've been watching Seattle almost every week.
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: I love what Clint Kobiak is doing. I like that idea, right,
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: I like the idea of taking someone who runs an
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: offense or a scheme that I really like and then
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: putting him as head coach. So I could understand that
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: a little bit. Craig says Gruden, absolutely not, not even
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: necessarily from an on the field standpoint, from an off
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: the field person standpoint, absolutely not for me personally, if
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: you know, you think the schematic stuff is there or
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: an outweighed personal stuff, but for me, absolutely not, no way,
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: shape or for him. I do not want him to
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: be the head coach of my favorite football team or
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: any football team. But that might be just me. Jason said, yeah,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: Clint Kubiak. I like Klink Kubiak, but your point, you know,
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: he may be a good replacement, but I'm proven, we
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: don't know. Clint Kubiak might be an off awesome offensive coordinator.
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: He might be like Josh McDaniels and be a terrible
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: head coach. Like that's again what it is with everything,
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: it is risk reward. The grass is not always greener
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: on the other side. Even again, I like Clint Kubiak,
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Or if you know the rumors are that Green Bay
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: might fire Matt Leflur, I'd take Matt with Flir, I'd
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: take Clint Kubiak. There's even though Lafleur has actual track
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: record as a head coach, and a pretty good one.
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: Although they haven't gotten over the hump, it's still not
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: a guarantee that this team would be better with Theo
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: at the helm or Kubiak at the helm, or if
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: they had brought lou Ana rum away, Like you don't
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: there's so much mah with all of that that you
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: don't know. There's so many variables and so many questions,
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: which is the reason why I never get fully on
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: board with YEP fire and get them out, especially with
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: the track record that they've had. Right. I know how
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: important it is to get over the hump. I know
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: how important it is to win the Super Bowl. That's
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: the goal, right, But to do that, you still got
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: to get to the playoffs every year. You still got
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: to beat a bunch of the better teams that you
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: play in your schedule in the regular season, you still
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: ideally got to win your division, and Sean McDermott has
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: done that kind of year in and year out. My
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: big thing that I've always said, I will fully get
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: on board and lean into fire McDermott once the culture
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: starts to erode, and if it seems like this team
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: is going in a direction like they've shown glimpses of
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: this year, where they're undisciplined, or they're unfocused, or the
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: effort isn't there, or the energy isn't there, or the
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: preparation and the commitment isn't there, that's a different thing.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: If the culture starts to a road and if it
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: seems like Sean McDermott has lost the plot a little
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: bit with this team, that's when for me it starts
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: to go because for and again I hate using this
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: example because you know, he's now regarded as one of
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: the best coaches of all time. The conversations that people
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: are having in Buffalo right now about Sean McDermott is
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: was times one thousand in Philly for Andy Reid. Philly
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: could not wait to run Andy Reid out of Philadelphia,
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: and then Kansas City wanted to run him out too,
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: and all of a sudden he got Pat Mahomes and
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: everything changed. And now you can say the same, well, yeah,
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: well Sean McDermott got Josh Allen and that didn't happen. Yeah,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: but he's kind of just running to the Chiefs who
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: happened to be better. And I think that's part of
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: it too, like Sean mcdermot's failures year in and year out,
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: or really because he's going against one of the best
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: head coaches of all time and a generational quarterback who's
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: the best quarterback of his generation, and you got to
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: get past those dudes. Also understand not being able to
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: get past those dudes. I mean, Dan Marino is arguably
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: the best quarterback all time and Chula was one of
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: the grest crest coaches all time. They couldn't get past
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: the Bills in the nineties. It's just it's tough. It's tough,
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: it's tough, and everybody's always unproven until they are until
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: they become proven. Now, Andy reeves that one of the
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: greatest coaches of all time. Before that, he was the
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: biggest choker of all time, and two cities almost ran
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: him out of town. It's conversational and it's interesting. This
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: is also an interesting one too. I wanted to grab
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: this comment. Do you trust Pegoula to hire the right person?
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: He said, I would think he would pick McCarthy. This
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: is also in the back of my mind too, because
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: of how much of a dumpster fire the Sabers are,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: and I know Pegoula might be like he likes hockey
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: more and he's invested more. Whatever the hell. I don't
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: want him to get more involved with the football team.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: I think he's not. I think he lets be in
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: a McDermott run the ship because he trusts them to
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: run the ship. I'm fearful of them going or one
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: of them going and him inserting himself a little bit
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: more so, I don't want that to happen. I don't
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: necessarily know if he would hire the right person. I'm
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: more concerned about that in second secondary to would he
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: get himself involved? And that scares me a little bit. Now,
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: maybe it wouldn't happen because he's more of a hockey
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: guy than he's a football guy. But I see what's
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: going on with the Sabers and that terrifies me that
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: it could also happen to the Bills because it's the
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: same owner and it could result in the same way,
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: and that scares me. That scares me. And also, like
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: this is Gonda coment from Gary. Gary says, I trust
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: McDermott as much as Josh to win it all for
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: better or for worse. I think that's a fair comment too,
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: and doesn't get brought up enough. I know Allan has
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: had some great performances in the playoffs and the defense
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: has let them down. He's also had some poor performances
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: and some bad starts where the defense has kept them
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: alive before he turned it on. It's just there's just
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: so many variables to put it all on McDermott. But
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: I understand those who do, and I understand those who
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: kind of want him out. I get it. Argie says,
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: when Andy was fired, I wanted the Bills to get
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: him so bad he wouldn't even talk to management here. Yeah,
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: that's very fair that he didn't want to come to
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: Buffalo at that time. But yeah, the Eagles were sitting
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: there being like, man, he keeps winning the division, he
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: keeps going to the NFC Championship, but he can't get
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: over the hump, and all the fans were like, screw them,
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: we hate him, we want him out, and they waited
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: for that first year where they struggled a bit and
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: they sent him out the door. Then he goes to
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: Kansas City, turns them into a regular AFC West contender.
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: They're going to the playoffs every year, but between Alex
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: Smith Matt Castle, they're not getting over the hump. And
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: everybody in Kansas City was literally go I forgot who
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: did it. I think Joe Goodberry did it. The guy
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: who does all the breakdowns with the Bengals. He found
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: stuff a couple of years ago, like he went down.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: I don't know how he found it. But like Chiefs
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: Twitter and the year before they got in Mahomes, like
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: so many people like, Andy Reid is awful. Andy Reid
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: is the worst. This team will never go anywhere with
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: Andy Reid. It's tough, it's tough. It's tough, it's tough,
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: and just because someone hasn't done it doesn't mean they can't.
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. For all
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: we know, Sean McDermott is the next Andy Reid, and
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: he could leave the Bills and go somewhere else and
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: win a bunch of rings, or maybe he can stay
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: here and win a bunch of rings and you're just
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: waiting for the right shoe to drop at the right time.
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: I don't think there's a right answer. If you think
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: Sean mcdermot's awesome and he should stay cool, if you
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: think Sean mcdermot's terrible and he is holding this team
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: back and you think you should get the boot cool,
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: I just think there's too many variables to have a concrete,
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: hard lined answer. And also, so it is comment here like,
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: but Reid is capitalized on mahomes and his prime mcdee
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: hast been able to do that eight years in. Andy
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: Reid has also had spags. Andy Reid has been able
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: to just solely do offense while having one of the
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: greatest defensive coordinators of all time and one of the
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: greatest matchup defensive coordinators of all time. I don't think
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Sean McDermott has ever had a spags on offense, and
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: maybe he can get one, I don't think he's had that.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: There we go, Wow, that's funny. This kind of literally
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: came in right now. Let's not forget it's read with spags,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: McDermott could use the Spags level assistant coach. That's the thing, right,
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: Like for me, can can can McDermott get a Spags
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: on the offensive side of the ball. That's part of
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: the reason why I want McDermott to run the defense,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: run the defense and get yourself a guy on the
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: offensive side. They could just run the whole ship. That's
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: been so important to the chiefs Andy Reid can just
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: do offensive stuff because Spags runs the whole defense. Like
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: that's a huge piece as well. So for as much
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: as it's been reading Mahomes, Spags has made a huge, huge, huge, huge, huge,
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: huge difference. And I don't think McDermott has ever had
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: a Spags on the offensive side of the ball. Now,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: whether or not that's McDermott's fault, whether or not you
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: know how much that falls onto him and or Bean
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: if you want to throw that in there too, you know,
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: fair enough conversation. I just think that's that's a lot
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: of variables, and then you follow a fair question, But
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: is that on McDermott and being to have found that
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: person by now like it's hard to trust even that anymore.
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: I think that's fair, But also like how many how
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: many other teams haven't found their Spags or haven't found
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: their Andy Reid, or haven't found there who's a great
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: offensive coordinator before they haven't found like their Nick Sirianni
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: at that time. Like for as many spags as they're
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: out there are out there, there's ten times twenty times
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: the amount of defensive coordinators that just straight up fail,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: like not even just like it is that I'm mcdeon
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: bean to have found that person by now? How about
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: every other team, every other team that hasn't found their
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: person by now? Right, It's tough. It's tough to find
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: some like coordinator or coach that is truly the right guy.
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: That's why so many coaches get fired. That's why so
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: many coordinators get fired because it's hard. It's not it's
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: not necessarily a crapshoot like the draft is. But it's tough.
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: You can put that on, you can put that on
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: being a McDermott for not finding like that person by now,
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: But you can do the same thing for every other
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: team in the NFL who hasn't found that guy on
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: one of the bar or the other. That's why the
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: chiefs it's so crazy because they have read and they
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: have Spags like they found both and they have the
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: generational quarterback. And on top of that, what's even crazier
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: with the Chiefs is no neither of them have left
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: because Spags doesn't want to be a head coach. He
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: hasn't gone anywhere like the Ravens. It was like, oh
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: Man Todd Monket and Mike McDonald. McDonald's gone and he
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: goes to be a head coach in Seattle. Usually when
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: you have a great coordinator, they get.
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: Plucked to go to be a head coach somewhere else,
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: and the Chiefs have not had that. That is so
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: unique and so rare that it's just been those two
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: for the whole time on each side of the ball,
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: which is also a rarity, which is also why it's
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: tough to compare.
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: Again, there's so many variables. That's why it's fun to
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: have this conversation or not so fun, depending on how
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: you look at it. But you can play Devil's advocate
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: to either side. I think these are really good questions.
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: That's a good point, Barti. You said another one. Let
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: me read it. Do you think there is a reason
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: exceptional coaching talent may not want to come here? We
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: have no idea if they've tried. I would just think
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: people would want to flock to work with Josh. I
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: think I don't think exceptional coaching talent doesn't want to
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: come here. But to your point, we have no idea
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: who has denied coming here, who hasn't wanted to come here.
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: But I do think from an offensive standpoint, a ton
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: of people would flock to want to work with Josh.
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: But also, if you look at the last two pieces
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: or two hires, Dorsey was internal and then Joe Brady
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: was internal, So usually you want to lean internal more
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: than external. One but two I also think not to
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: give McDermott or being a pass at all. Right, Josh
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: Allen had some influence here. There's no way in hell,
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: especially with Brady, but even with Dorsey too. There is
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: no way in hell that the Bills hired Ken Dorsey
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: as their offensive coordinator and hired Joe Brady as their
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: offensive coordinator. If Josh Allen wasn't like, yep, I want
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: those guys, there is no way in hell. Maybe again,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: we can play Devil's advocate on all these sides. On
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: these sides, maybe they wanted a different guy from the outside.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: And maybe Allen was like, no, I want these these guys,
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: and they were like, okay, we'll go with what Allen wants.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: I don't know, we don't know. And yeah, see you're
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: saying like it's like they want to surround themselves with
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: in fear inexperienced talent, almost as a way to protect themselves.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: I don't think that's the case at all. I think
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: they like to promote from within. They like to maintain
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: maintain consistency with who knows the team and who knows
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: the building. And I also think again Alan had had
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: saying there there's no way they're going to hire any
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: offensive coordinator if Josh Allen is not on board with it.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: There's no way. So as much as we can blame
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: being in McDermott or you could say, well they're the
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: head coaches, they need to overrule him, that's absolutely fair,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: But we maybe have to blame Allen to a little
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: bit because I guarantee Alan coch signed, if not advocated,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: for both of those hires, and I don't think they
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: want to surround themselves within fear inexperienced talent. They want
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: to ring. Sean McDermott is ultra ultra ultra ultra ultra competitive,
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: ultra competitive. There is no way in hell Sean McDermott
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: is willing to hire in inferior or inexperienced talent to
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: make himself look better if it means he's not gonna win.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: I just don't buy that. He's way too competitive for that,
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: As most dudes are in the NFL, I don't. I
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: don't think he's that type of dude. He wants to
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: win very very very very very badly. It just hasn't
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: worked out for multitude injuries unfortunately. And this is a
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: good question saying, is that a control issue from McDermott
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: or just a Josh influence. I think it's I think
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: it's I don't necessarily think it's a control issue. I
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: do think if you're anybody, even if you're a like
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: a business that isn't like a football team, usually you
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: want to promote from within, right like you have people
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: who already know the system. You have people who already
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: know your ways and how you work. You've got people
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: who are who are comfortable and known. You have a
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: known quantity there, there's limited unknowns. And it also sends
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: a good message to the rest of your organization, like, Hey,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: we promote from within, so if you grind it your job,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: you can get bumped, just like Timmy did and Joey
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: did and boom boom boom and all that stuff. So
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: I don't know, you could make the case of it's
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: control issue. I just think it's more familiarity and known
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: quantity and promoting from within and a bit of a
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: Josh influence as well. That's fair. I just want to
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: rage and blame him for everything right now, laugh a
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: louds so frustrated. I get it, man, everybody needs like
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: a conduit or a medium for their frustration and a
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: vehicle for it. I get it. But you know, no,
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: I appreciate you saying thank you answer my questions. Thank
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: you for being here for asking questions. I appreciate you. Yeah,
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: it's I don't think it's an easy answer for everything
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: with McDermott, bean. I see the comments on table. I
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: spoke about it a bit earlier. I don't know if
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: he's the savior that everybody's making him out to be.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: I do like the idea of, you know, having somebody
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: on that side of the ball that can completely run
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: the entire side by himself. I'm not completely out on
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: Brady yet. I never thought Brady was as good as
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: everyone made them out to be, just like I never
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: thought Ken Dorsey was as bad as everyone made him
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: out to be. But Dable has his warts as well.
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: I feel like everybody's forgetting the struggles the offensive had,
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: the offense had at times under him, and how there
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: were people who wanted him out the way they wanted
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: Brady and Dorsey out. But again, time heals all wounds. Yeah,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: I would love them just to get a spags on
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: that side of the wall. And it could be Dable,
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: it could be somebody else. I don't know. It's just
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: it's tough. There's so many variables. You're dealing with people.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: There's so many variables, nature versus nurture, environments, ecosystems, injuries,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: getting the right players at the right time, staying healthy,
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: you know, the right system, the right fit, the right development,
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: the right timeline, the right development patterns. There's so many variables.
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: Just to narrow it down to one person or one
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: thing is the problem. It's just it's just tough for me.
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: It's tough for me. Yeah, and Jason, this is what
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: kind of end on this Jason says, I think that
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: hiring co ordinator someone within has been proven to be
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: a mistake. Josh deserves a better ROC. I think that's fair.
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: But also again, if Josh wants a guy from within,
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: what are you going to do. I understand you're running
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: the ship and you're in charge, but if you're franchise quarterback,
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: the MVP, one of your guys that run this franchise,
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: actually backtrack the guy if he comes to you and says,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: I want this guy from within, what are you doing?
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: Because Josh might deserve a better OC, but Josh well
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: thinks he deserves this SoC or. He wants this soci Again,
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: there's no way he didn't sign off on Dorsey and Brady.
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: And I don't know, if you know, maybe that was
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: icing on the cake and they were already leaning towards
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: Dorsey and Brady, and once he said yes, they were like, oh, great, perfect,
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: we don't have to clash because that's what we wanted.
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: Or maybe they took his direction, maybe they wanted somebody
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: from the outside. Again, we don't know. I I'm throwing out,
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: you know, theories and hypotheses, which fun, but we don't know,
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: you know, Josh may want internal guys for as much
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: as McDermott and Bean want it. It might be Josh's
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: call more so than we think. We don't know. I
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: like this. Josh has failed and picking an OC twice.
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: Now he doesn't get a choice. I think that's fair.
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: I think that's fair. Yeah, it's tough. It's tough telling
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: your star that he can't get what he wants, or
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: the guy who's running the show he can't get what
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: he wants. If that's even happening. Again, I don't know.
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: I just died that again. There's so many variables. It's hard
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: to just whittle it down to one thing and be like,
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: this is the problem, this is what happened. Change this
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: thing and everything else will be better. Butterfly effect. Man,
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: there's a multitude of things gonna happen from the tiniest change.
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: But it makes it fun for fun conversation. You know
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: what else is fun conversation? Talking about the best pizza
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: in Buffalo, New York. That is one pie pizza. If
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: you have not had one pie pizza, you're doing yourself
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: a disservice. The best pizza in Buffalo, New York. I
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: don't say that because they sponsor the show. They sponsor
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: the show because I truly think they are the best
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: pizza in Buffalo, New York. Sweet sauce, pie cup and
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: char pepperoni, homemade blue cheese. It's absolutely phenomenal. They have
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: a pizza that's named after the show and named after
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: the brand. It's called the Cover One Alan Goat. It
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: is amazing. They do breakfast pizzas, they do some really
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: good salads. They have a catering division called Elevated Catering
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: a Buffalo that is also phenomenal. If you're doing an
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: event or any type of activity that you need catering
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: done for, you should hire them. They awesome mac and cheeses,
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: delicious salads, main dishes, chickens, rices, a whole bunch of stuff.
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: You can also get pizza as well. Just really phenomenal stuff.
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: And I also, as I always mentioned, they're good people
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: on top of it, so you got good people making
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: good food. All the initiatives they have for the community
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: for the city at large, including one that's coming up
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: very soon Toys for Tots. I am pressing them for
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: details as we go forward here in terms of what
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: the prizes are for this year, but usually how it goes.
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: However many toys you drop off, that's how many tickets
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: you get entered into a raffle. And those raffles tickets
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: give the opportunity to win a various amount of prizes.
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: So in store One Pie stuff like free pizza and
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: different levels of that, but also a lot, usually times
- 2:00:07Speaker 1: a lot of sports merch, so like autographed bills, memorabilia, sabers, memorabilia, sabers, tickets,
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: sometimes bills tickets, just a lot of awesome stuff. And
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: you know, even besides that, just you know, given toys
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: for the holidays. I say it all the time. I
- 2:00:22Speaker 1: love Christmas. I love the holiday times. It's one of
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: my favorite times a year. Like I know it is
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: for a lot of people, but Christmas and the holidays
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: suck for a lot of people and for kids. And
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: it's really awesome to go to One Pie and see
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: all these bins that are filled with toys, and to
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: know that those toys are going to go to families
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: or you know, kid directly to kids, or go to
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: families and parents who can give them to their kids.
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: It's just a really awesome time. And again that's also
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: even if you're not doing it a one Pie, you know,
- 2:00:53Speaker 1: giving what you can or donating what you can in
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: the holiday season. I know it's tough in this economy
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: with everything that's going on, but if you have the
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: capacity to give, it's awesome, and I advocate for it
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: a lot. So whether you're doing it through One Pie
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: or anyone else, Toyster Toots is awesome. Donating and being
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: charitable is awesome. And if you do it through One Pie,
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: you get the opportunity to get some amazing food and
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: some awesome gift emrch. If that's your type of vibe,
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: I feel like we can honestly keep going with this
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: episode for a very long time. These two hours have
- 2:01:19Speaker 1: flown by. I didn't think this episode was going to
