- 0:00The chakras are subtle energy centres, not physical centres in
- 0:04the body, although they generally correspond to various
- 0:09physical capacities ranged along the external body.
- 0:14They essentially act as vibrational receptors and
- 0:17transmitters of energies. When they are closed or very
- 0:22much shut down, the energy that would normally work through them
- 0:25tends to be weak or missing in the manifestation of any being.
- 0:30Evolution of consciousness and its expression in the external
- 0:34being involves the systematic development and opening of the
- 0:39higher subtle energy centers. Thus, animal beings tend to
- 0:44function mostly through the energetic action of the lower
- 0:47chakras involving sex and procreation, lower vital drives
- 0:52such as craving, hunger, thirst, acquisition, and then power and
- 0:58domination. As the 4th chakra opens, there
- 1:03comes an emotional vital force that begins to operate more
- 1:06fully in the being. 5th chakra governs expression and powers of
- 1:11communication, 6th chakra the willpower, and 7th chakra the
- 1:17direct connection to higher spiritual forces and energies.
- 1:22We can observe within ourselves where we experience different
- 1:25forces. For example, the sexual force
- 1:29tends to be a pressure in the lower regions of the groin,
- 1:33which is an external mapping to the subtle energy centre called
- 1:36the mulladhar or first chakra. When we experience various sorts
- 1:41of cravings or movements of an acquisitive nature, we may
- 1:45experience it somewhat higher in our physical body and when we
- 1:49are trying to exercise and develop power and domination.
- 1:53This is generally aligned with the third chakra.
- 1:58The body provides us a general map of which chakras are active.
- 2:03There is a considerable body of yogic information about the
- 2:06practices of Kundalini yoga. The concept of the first chakra
- 2:10energy, rather than being spilt in its normal restricted
- 2:15functions, being directed upwards through the subtle
- 2:19energy centres, awakening each one and eventually rising to
- 2:24join the 7th chakra at the top of the head.
- 2:27Creating a fully awakened human individual powering all the
- 2:31various potentialities of the being, joining him to the divine
- 2:37consciousness above. What an individual does with the
- 2:41energy that gets released of course is something else.
- 2:45There are both potential dangers and potential benefits from
- 2:49opening any of the chakras to a larger action if the individual
- 2:54is not ready to hold direct and utilize that energy effectively.
- 3:00And thus the practice of things such as Kundalini yoga without
- 3:05proper guidance can lead to physical, vital, emotional and
- 3:10mental imbalances, disharmonies, and even injuries or death.
- 3:16While proper implementation can lead to higher stages of
- 3:19realization and awareness. At a certain stage in the yogic
- 3:25practice, some of these openings and developments may begin to
- 3:28take place naturally. Human aspiration for the Divine
- 3:33brings about an upward flow of energy.
- 3:35While the divine response from above answers Sri Aurobindo
- 3:41notes quote, there is a Yoga Shakti lying coiled or asleep in
- 3:46the inner body, not active. When one does yoga, this force
- 3:51uncoils itself and rises upward to meet the divine consciousness
- 3:56and force that are waiting above us.
- 4:00When this happens, when the awakened yoga Shakti arises, it
- 4:04is often felt like a snake uncoiling and standing up
- 4:08straight and lifting itself more and more upwards.
- 4:12When it meets the divine consciousness above, then the
- 4:16force of the divine consciousness canmore easily
- 4:19descend into the body and be felt, working there to change
- 4:23the nature. The feeling of your body and
- 4:26eyes being drawn upwards is part of the same movement.
- 4:31It is the inner consciousness in the body and the inner subtle
- 4:35sight in the body that are looking and moving upward and
- 4:39trying to meet the divine consciousness and divine seeing
- 4:44above. End Quote Reference Srioro Vindo
