- 0:09Hello and welcome back to another episode of Bandit
- 0:11Lauren. See, how are you all doing?
- 0:12I hope you're doing great for today's episode.
- 0:15I want to talk about the mass deportation of Nigerian youths.
- 0:21The reason why I say use is because most of the videos that
- 0:24are floating on social media are Nigerian youths, these are you
- 0:30Young people young enterpreneurs, young
- 0:33enterprising people that could have done better or could have
- 0:36made better choices, or better plans.
- 0:40I mean, we all know that the Jack McCall chiral is like
- 0:44Eminence. Like everybody wants to Jack.
- 0:47My everybody wants to leave Bots, have you sat down to ask
- 0:52yourself what are your plans? It's not just about getting your
- 0:57visas. A lot of people.
- 1:00To get their visas. They go to church, they do
- 1:02Thanksgiving, they say, oh well my problems are over, like I
- 1:06have arrived live in Nigeria is not, it's not.
- 1:11I'm going to another country is not the destination.
- 1:14It's not the endpoint that is just the beginning of your
- 1:18journey. Regardless of what you think
- 1:20your qualifications your skill sets.
- 1:24You just getting to that point to start afresh to start your
- 1:29life all over. Over again, like, you tell
- 1:31people, okay, move from Lagos maybe to color, but they will
- 1:36tell you how do you want me to start all over again in color
- 1:39bar? But they think moving from
- 1:42Nigeria to Diaspora? They think is easier.
- 1:46They think oh, they are going to just get their Pig goes on the
- 1:49streets. And these are the people that
- 1:51get deported India, deported over 190, 190 newts previous
- 1:59couple of Montego to buy deported almost 600 and urine
- 2:04units and you sit down and these are just ones that are known.
- 2:08There are so many other countries are deported Nigerians
- 2:11and you sit down and ask yourself, why are these things
- 2:15happening? We know that a lot of people are
- 2:18living in Nigeria and mass due to the security situation in
- 2:24Nigeria financial situation. But you have to also realize as
- 2:30that, it is not just Niger and is going through this financial
- 2:33difficulties world after the pandemic is in recession,
- 2:38everybody is creeping down the barrel, like everybody is trying
- 2:43to survive. Now you see a lot of people,
- 2:46they save money, they sell land, they get, we're talking about
- 2:50millions of naira people using traveling to do, by people using
- 2:55traveling to India to different parts of the other parts of Woad
- 3:01and when this will get deported, what they give them is a hundred
- 3:05dollar to sort themselves out. There are a whole bunch of
- 3:09people online, crying for Nigerian government to come and
- 3:12come to their aid to come and help them leave the countries
- 3:16that they are in because the conditions are unfavorable.
- 3:21You go to u.s. North America, you see a lot of
- 3:25people struggle on the streets living Roth you have rough.
- 3:30A you have homeless people and you look at these people and
- 3:35most of them are most of the black people.
- 3:37You see, there are Nigerians and you ask yourself or Africans.
- 3:42You ask yourself what is happening.
- 3:45A whole lot of people are celebrating.
- 3:47The fact that people are living Nigeria.
- 3:50People are living and jurors to get a better life out there.
- 3:53But at what cost, what is the standard of living of those
- 3:57people? Most of them are Just illegal in
- 4:02the countries that they are going into.
- 4:04Most of them are just the job. I can't even, I don't even know
- 4:09how to explain this. It breaks my heart to see these
- 4:13videos online, and when you advise people, when you say,
- 4:18okay, what do you want to travel?
- 4:20Why do you because you asked this you to, why do you even
- 4:24want to travel? And most things that they will
- 4:26tell you, is they want to host, they want to make money.
- 4:30I really like, okay, making money is a byproduct, like, what
- 4:35are the steps that you have in place to get these things?
- 4:38Do? Tell you, oh, a friend of mine
- 4:40travel, six months ago and is already building skyscrapers,
- 4:45excuse me. If these are the issues, these
- 4:49are the issues you travel. In six months, you don't even
- 4:53know your left from your right? You're still trying to get into
- 4:56the culture of the country that you coming.
- 5:00You'll still trying to know where the bus stop is where
- 5:03you're just still trying to get some getting a job.
- 5:07But I think there's this mindset, there's this
- 5:11orientation. The Nigerians have that.
- 5:14Once you travel you coming, you hit the ground running.
- 5:18You start making money pounds or dollars when you exchange act in
- 5:22Nigerian rate narrate, you think?
- 5:25Oh my God, I'm a millionaire in the next two months.
- 5:29Have you thought about Bills. Have you thought about rent?
- 5:32Have you talked about cost of living?
- 5:34People are not putting any of these things into consideration
- 5:37before traveling. I remember like I am not going
- 5:40to sit down here claim holier-than-thou.
- 5:43I traveled. And one of the Saving Grace I
- 5:47had was somebody who came back from Europe.
- 5:52Came back from the UK and they had they traveled as a visitor
- 5:58and they had so much Oops, this lady was using other people's
- 6:02documents work. She couldn't even and when she
- 6:07was doing all those things should work, like she was
- 6:09walking around the club and she was still have to share that
- 6:13salary with the person who was using the document to work, and
- 6:17that made it very difficult. Once she pays our veins, and it
- 6:21was so difficult for her to even save money to do anything for
- 6:25ourselves. She later met somebody who told
- 6:28that just leave Come back to Nigeria.
- 6:31If you leave voluntarily, I wish you stayed there for like six in
- 6:34six years and this person told her just come back, voluntarily,
- 6:39volunteer, that you're living you over stage, you apologize
- 6:44and you're living. There would have more sympathy
- 6:48for you. They will not like stamp 10
- 6:51years Visa ban on you. Once you do that voluntarily,
- 6:56she was able to do that. She go back to Nigeria and then
- 6:59she was able to Save some money, demolish use.
- 7:01She was able to process a student visa and she came back
- 7:05and before then she was telling me that because then we are
- 7:08trying to get travel. I remember went to the Embassy
- 7:11where you're sitting down, everybody was using castle in
- 7:14the air, but is beating cousin in the are basically.
- 7:19We're just saying that all we're going to go, we're going to get
- 7:22signal a very good job. I was an it and I'm like, oh my
- 7:26God, I thought my guess it job. I'll be doing this.
- 7:29I'll be doing that. She said listen, it is not what
- 7:32you think it is. You're going to get there in the
- 7:35next six months. You don't even know your left
- 7:36from your right. One year is going to come quick
- 7:39on you before you even realize before you even know where your
- 7:44boss stop is. One year has gone by not even to
- 7:48talk of use talking about six months, you're going to do this,
- 7:51you're going to do that. She told us her story and I
- 7:54remember everybody was looking at her.
- 7:57Like, you feel you, like you stay there for six months.
- 8:00So for six years, I couldn't even do anything.
- 8:03The other of my friend came back after 6 months, and we're
- 8:06building skyscrapers were driving the latest cars and all
- 8:11that and you some of the guys said, oh, because you're a
- 8:14woman. You know, you couldn't do any of
- 8:16those things because like I was I sat down and I listened to her
- 8:22because deep down I actually told myself that my story was
- 8:27going to be different but that does not.
- 8:29Negate the fact that I learned I picked the lessons from what she
- 8:34said. She said, listen once you get
- 8:36there, don't think like leave all your assumptions, drop them
- 8:41at the airport and once you get there face, whatever you have to
- 8:44face, but always hold onto that go.
- 8:48That you have implemented regardless, if it's going to
- 8:52take you ten years, don't let go of it.
- 8:55Regardless of the situation, you're going to find yourself in
- 8:58that helped me lat. Because I gots when I got here,
- 9:03I was I was I was shocked, first of all, because it was not as
- 9:08easy as you think. Oh, you're going to just get
- 9:10injured. There are jobs everywhere,
- 9:12you're going to get a job and all that.
- 9:14It was not that easy. It took me a while to get a job.
- 9:18And listen, that's the reason for another G.
- 9:22My point is, I had an idea of what it was like before.
- 9:29Even coming if nobody had told me.
- 9:33And like we had guys who are sitting down on this lady told
- 9:38us the story and some of the artists who they are, I am still
- 9:42friends with some of these people and some of them who
- 9:45said, oh, you're just a woman. You, you did not, you're not
- 9:49smart, you're not, you're not a hustla.
- 9:51I am going to come out whole soup. 90% of them today are just
- 9:57roaming the streets, doing odd jobs.
- 10:00We're talking about 13 years later.
- 10:03These people don't even know their left from their, right?
- 10:06So, you sit down and you think about most of these people that
- 10:11are being deported people, that they have told what is your end
- 10:18goal? What is your objective?
- 10:21Why do you want to travel you hear this?
- 10:23We will say I want to make money, I want to host.
- 10:26So so what are you what are you plans to actually put these
- 10:30things in place? They don't have any plan or they
- 10:34want to do is the Fielder's, once they travel, all their
- 10:38problems are solved. So when they get to this
- 10:41destinations and the reality of the whole thing, hit them in the
- 10:44face, it is very hard for them to now adjust their minds or
- 10:50adjust their situation to fit into where they are instead.
- 10:54Said they were rather because they are not there to work and
- 10:58earn minimum wage for them to work a double shift to get
- 11:03money. No, this is not.
- 11:04They feel that they are supposed to be getting truck loads of
- 11:09money at a time. I'm building skyscrapers in six
- 11:12months when the realization hits that, okay?
- 11:15This is not how it is. Some of these people going to
- 11:17Crime, some of these were going to unscrupulous businesses.
- 11:21Some of these people do things that is not Within the confines
- 11:25of the laws of the land and these are the people that are
- 11:29deported. We talked about the protein six,
- 11:32almost six hundred, youths, two months ago and India, English
- 11:39departing almost 200 people. This is within three months, we
- 11:46are having almost a factor. We're not talking about other
- 11:49countries, almost 1000 people and India the 100, the people
- 11:55are that are in detention are over a thousand people do by the
- 12:00potent. Almost 600 people.
- 12:02The people that are on detention are over 2,000, the people that
- 12:07roaming the streets are over 5,000.
- 12:10So you see people traveling and then you're like, okay so put
- 12:15some of these people, they've been there for 45 years.
- 12:19If you tell some of these people before you travel, why don't you
- 12:22research the countries that You're traveling to, why don't
- 12:25you check the skills that is required?
- 12:28That they are looking for every country is lacking in one sector
- 12:32or the other. Once you can tap into that
- 12:34sector then even if that is not your original background,
- 12:42educational background, you can do something to fix yourself in
- 12:45when you finish secondary school and decided to study law, you do
- 12:48not know anything about law before you became a lawyer.
- 12:51When you finish secondary school and decided to study The main
- 12:54thing you know know jack shit about medicine before what you
- 12:58did that you qualify, you got that certificate.
- 13:01So why do you think I don't understand why people think it
- 13:05is difficult to go back to school and get another
- 13:10qualification that will help you.
- 13:12Some of these will tell you. I three years to go back and
- 13:15study. Another course y can be
- 13:17traveling at the making money. These are the people that will
- 13:20be there for four years for 56 years.
- 13:24Not deported and they're giving a hundred dollars at the
- 13:29airport. Some of them are online crying
- 13:31for Nigerian government to come to their aid to command and take
- 13:35them because they don't even have flight tickets the
- 13:38countries. Some of these countries, they
- 13:40don't even want to Bear the burden of the cost of departing
- 13:44these people. So they are all in detention
- 13:47centers and it's just, it's just ridiculous.
- 13:51It's just ridiculous, everybody. Wants to travel.
- 13:55Everybody wants to Jack Paar but not everybody is prepared.
- 14:00Not everybody is prepared and most times when you tell these
- 14:03people do your research whole bunch of people are paying
- 14:09ridiculous amounts of money for school fees, especially in the
- 14:12UK to come and study those in the UK are taking loans to pay
- 14:18this to pay for this school fees.
- 14:21So you're thinking. Okay, you're coming back, you're
- 14:23selling. Bertie's, you're getting loans
- 14:26to come and pay your school fees and you think even after going
- 14:29to that school, are you willing to start from the bottom?
- 14:33Are you willing to do internship?
- 14:35Are you willing? Some of them will tell you.
- 14:37I have master's degree. Why would I go and do
- 14:40internship? That they will not pay me or
- 14:42they will pay me. Just this small amounts of money
- 14:46homie with master's degree but you don't have any experience.
- 14:51You are they doing jobs that you're thinking?
- 14:54Okay, this job is giving me money in the next 56 years.
- 14:58We are you going to be you spent all that money doing your
- 15:03Masters but the job you're doing does not even tally with robots.
- 15:09You studied, why don't you then make a plan, make a plan before
- 15:15you come into this country or into any other country.
- 15:18Look at the sectors of that economic No me that people are
- 15:22lacking that they require people do those courses, they will even
- 15:26give you jobs right from where you are.
- 15:29Before you even come into the country, you will hit the ground
- 15:32running because you already have a job in one month's time.
- 15:35Your salary will be your accounts.
- 15:37If they are paid monthly or some of them are paid weekly and then
- 15:42you're just going to struggle for that one month.
- 15:44And then the next month you? Okay, you can rent your house,
- 15:47you can do you can't even no more life.
- 15:50Is going to take you, maybe 34 years to make that plan, to put
- 15:56that plan in place for most people.
- 15:58They when they just wake up in the morning and say, I want to
- 16:01travel, they want to travel the next day without even thinking,
- 16:06that's okay. What am I even going to do
- 16:09there? The end goal is not just to
- 16:11travel. The end goal is not just to get
- 16:13your visa, do Thanksgiving a live, where you are, you have to
- 16:18be able to ask yourself what? Am I going to do in this place?
- 16:23How am I going to fit in? What is, what is that thing that
- 16:28is required of me? People are deported every day,
- 16:34people are. If you go on Twitter, there are
- 16:37so many people begging for flight.
- 16:39Tickets to come back to Nigeria. And these are people that have
- 16:43lived in these countries for four five, six, seven years, and
- 16:47it can't even afford flight ticket to be Ported.
- 16:52They can't even afford these things.
- 16:54Those people. If you had told them do nothing
- 16:58for three years, do your qualification exam getting a job
- 17:02before you travel. The tell you are 34 years.
- 17:05That's a very long time for me too.
- 17:08I don't want no sin. They will tell you, I don't want
- 17:11this. No, I cannot do this produced, a
- 17:14come here and they will do care. They will pay all this money to
- 17:18disqualifications and they can't even Working those field because
- 17:22they don't have experience. They cannot use computers
- 17:26developed countries, going to want that.
- 17:27Your comedy writing on paper, these people have zero computer
- 17:30skills and then you talk is help yourself so that they believe
- 17:37will help yourself. It seems as if you just you just
- 17:40ranting. If you do, you don't want, like
- 17:43I don't get it, I don't get it, he's just crazy, a whole lot of
- 17:49youths. And then, when they come back
- 17:52after spending five, six years, they are needs them.
- 17:55Some of this will don't even want to come back because they
- 17:58feel like, okay, they spent five six years, they are made already
- 18:01ahead of them. They are means have already
- 18:04quali gotten a degree. Some of them master's degree.
- 18:08They already working or some of them are very lengthy skill,
- 18:11lengthy trade and they are doing one or two things and you you're
- 18:14just don't even have any of these things you don't have.
- 18:18You don't have any skills. So Coming back home with no
- 18:21money, no skills, nothing. Most of these people would
- 18:25rather just die in detention that.
- 18:29Come back to Nigeria to start afresh.
- 18:34It is sad. It is sad, I don't know.
- 18:39The longer short story is we see everyday people traveling, like
- 18:44the UK and they're looking for Nigerian teachers like Africa
- 18:47and teachers they are looking for teachers basically.
- 18:50Only because of the whole situation in the u.k. right now,
- 18:53there are strikes Left, Right Center, they are looking for
- 18:57skilled workers. Somebody now back home, they've
- 19:02gone to school. If you tell them, now, do some
- 19:06qualification that in the next, maybe one or two years, it went
- 19:11to qualify and coming as his teacher.
- 19:14They will tell you. No, I want to go and do Masters.
- 19:18It is Masters. I want to do.
- 19:20This is my and you comp pay all that money, do your Masters and
- 19:24then you cannot get a job. You cannot get to enjoy because
- 19:28you cannot Practice What You've Done.
- 19:29Tell them. Okay, after your Masters go and
- 19:32do maybe internship to tell you. How much are they paying for
- 19:35internship? After I paid all this money to
- 19:38do Masters. I cannot want to internship.
- 19:40I'd rather go out to support work.
- 19:42I rather want to take a walk. Okay, you're doing the care work
- 19:46in the next five or six years, you're still in that cable.
- 19:50What is the purpose of your Masters paying for your master's
- 19:54degree? That 56 years?
- 19:57If you had taken that time out to do a qualification that you
- 20:02get a job straight, you are hitting the ground running.
- 20:06That's already place you above average, people think we're just
- 20:10getting the Visa is you have you thought about how you're going
- 20:13to be renewing those visas. Have you thought about it?
- 20:17It's, it's I just want those students who think if you have a
- 20:24family member that is about to travel and you ask them, what is
- 20:28their goal and they said they want to make money.
- 20:32Yeah, our goal is just horrible sit down PC that person sit down
- 20:37if you if you have advice that person and they are not
- 20:39listening just sedan. They look not dog named sedan.
- 20:44They look like a dog named sit down.
- 20:47Look at a person. Just allow them.
- 20:49Just keep looking. Some of these people will not
- 20:51even listen to advice know. They can.
- 20:55Do you think, you, you are not smart enough because they happen
- 21:00to, you doesn't mean it's not. It's going to happen to me.
- 21:03You are not clever enough. That was why it happened to you.
- 21:07You are not smart enough. That was why it took you that
- 21:10long to get your own me. I am just going to get my own
- 21:13and in six months I'll be I'll be I'll be bringing bags of
- 21:18money. It's his know, like thoughts.
- 21:22It is no, like that people are deported every day.
- 21:26There are so many scholarships that you can apply for.
- 21:30You can sit down and do not sin. There are so many Healthcare
- 21:35works because if you decide, okay, because they are still
- 21:40going to come here and they're going to end up as Kara's.
- 21:43Why don't you do some of those supports such?
- 21:45There are so many social work qualifications in.
- 21:49Sure, that you can do and get a job straight from Nigeria to
- 21:53come here. O people don't even.
- 21:57They just want their head is I want to travel they wanted now
- 22:03they want to just get on that flight and leave without you
- 22:08they just say okay once I get there I'll figure things out.
- 22:12These are the people that have been deported only daily basis.
- 22:16Some of them half of them are roaming the streets half of them
- 22:20don't even have directions plan, your life plan, Life before you
- 22:26travel. I am also in, don't travel, but
- 22:29also, before you travel, sit down, sit down, ask questions,
- 22:34ask questions. Look at the country that you're
- 22:36going to ask yourself. What's welcome I going to do
- 22:40today? What is its?
- 22:44What are the job, prospect? If you study a particular course
- 22:47in Nigeria, or you're applying for a particular master's degree
- 22:50course, ask yourself what are the job prospects?
- 22:53Can I fit into this job? Bob, is this something I can do?
- 22:57If it is not apply for something that you knew that when you get
- 23:02here is easier for you to get a job, there is nothing wrong in
- 23:06getting into a country with something that you think will
- 23:09help you. And then change you once you're
- 23:12sorted, there is nothing wrong in that.
- 23:16So you see, people spending five, ten years, just
- 23:23Circulating. Plan your life, plan your life.
- 23:31There are so many videos floating on social media.
- 23:33When people have recently, traveled advising people on, you
- 23:38know, what to expect or do you still want to come to their
- 23:41broad so many of those videos? And you you see the comments
- 23:47people say I am because you don't travel, allow us to travel
- 23:50don't stress. Those we are going to when we
- 23:52come, we'll sort it out or when we come, we see, we are just
- 23:56because you are in that situation.
- 23:57Those Domina. I'm going to be in that
- 23:58situation. Instead of you to take the
- 24:01lessons in those videos and think of see information.
- 24:06Now is available everywhere. There is no good to you two.
- 24:11Now, you want to go to Canada, type Canada, your own.
- 24:15You to, you see videos of the endurance that are sharing their
