- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to the New York Sports Weekly Show with your boy,
- 0:14Speaker 1: Independent Nick. I got super producer extraordinaire Jason Baum with me. Baum,
- 0:19Speaker 1: what's good with you, man?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Goodie, it was fantastic to see you and the crew
- 0:26Speaker 2: this weekend out at Chop's wedding. What a night it was.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Still recovering. But, yeah, absolute banger of a night.
- 0:34Speaker 1: You see I got the shirt on.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I do see that. And, man, how about Papa Chop?
- 0:40Speaker 2: I mean, the guy's a 101. The guy's a 101.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Absolute wild boy. I mean, it's not even– you can't
- 0:49Speaker 1: even really explain Papa Chop to people. He has to
- 0:51Speaker 1: be experienced. But, yeah, the fact that he continued to
- 0:56Speaker 1: add more temporary tattoos to his face and head of
- 1:01Speaker 1: the bride and groom as the night went on is
- 1:04Speaker 1: something unlike anything I have ever seen.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Um, but, uh, yeah, definitely a rare one for me too.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I didn't even know those things were existing. And then
- 1:13Speaker 2: once I knew my dumb ass forgot to put an
- 1:15Speaker 2: over on her bed for the table, uh, I really
- 1:18Speaker 2: should have done.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I mean, whatever. I don't listen. I think it would
- 1:22Speaker 1: have been a family. I don't think anybody is hitting
- 1:24Speaker 1: the under on that. Everybody is hammering the over on that. So, uh, Yeah, man,
- 1:28Speaker 1: like you said, great, great night catching up with the boys,
- 1:31Speaker 1: with our Zen Reach boys. And also, you know, a
- 1:36Speaker 1: little bit of business to attend to. You know, you
- 1:39Speaker 1: haven't been on a little while. You've been doing your
- 1:41Speaker 1: thing out there with, you know, your whole kickball playoffs.
- 1:45Speaker 1: First of all, how did you all end up?
- 1:48Speaker 2: It was a tough ending, let's just say that. Lost
- 1:50Speaker 2: a couple championships last week. But, however, I did walk
- 1:53Speaker 2: off the plane on Sunday and kick a grand slam. Okay. Okay.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We like that.
- 1:58Speaker 2: At least help get us to the finals. Okay.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We like that. We like that. And when is the finals?
- 2:03Speaker 2: They were Sunday, unfortunately. Oh, okay. Wednesday final this past
- 2:06Speaker 2: week and lost. Sunday final this week and lost. It
- 2:09Speaker 2: was tough.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I got you.
- 2:11Speaker 2: You know, we've done a lot of winning recently. And,
- 2:13Speaker 2: you know, every now and then the L's are going
- 2:15Speaker 2: to happen. Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Well, speaking of winning, we also concluded the Fantasy Baseball League.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Oh, the one you tied?
- 2:22Speaker 1: And the one where you and I were in the championship.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:25Speaker 1: And yes, it did in a category league. I'm still
- 2:29Speaker 1: a proponent of head-to-head, by the way. But in a
- 2:31Speaker 1: category league, it did end up in a tie. And
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yahoo's tiebreaker is whoever had the higher seed, which was me.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So therefore, I took down my third championship in 10 years,
- 2:45Speaker 1: the most championships in the entire league. Just, you know,
- 2:49Speaker 1: quality domination. This year, we did it with a mix
- 2:52Speaker 1: of having, you know, a great core and then going
- 2:55Speaker 1: out and having just an unbelievable draft. I mean, we
- 2:59Speaker 1: can't speak enough about how fantastic my draft was getting
- 3:04Speaker 1: like four out of the top six rookie of the
- 3:07Speaker 1: year candidates, both leagues, just a bunch of young talent,
- 3:10Speaker 1: some young Mets to sprinkle it in. I, you know,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I just, you know, we can't say enough about the
- 3:16Speaker 1: performance once again, this year by your boy, when it
- 3:20Speaker 1: comes to that league. Anything you'd like to add?
- 3:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we can go back to the Dynasty basketball league
- 3:25Speaker 2: when I did the exact same thing and won three
- 3:27Speaker 2: titles in four years outright.
- 3:29Speaker 1: That league doesn't exist anymore. I killed the league. I
- 3:32Speaker 1: killed the league. Listen, you're right. A lot of people,
- 3:38Speaker 1: due to your dominance, they didn't want to continue. I
- 3:43Speaker 1: think that was a huge factor. I also, I wasn't
- 3:45Speaker 1: the best commissioner. I am not commissioner material. I'm just not.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I'm not organized enough Um, I don't have enough time.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I don't have enough bandwidth. And, uh, I really do.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I still want to play fantasy basketball, but I just
- 3:57Speaker 1: can't be at the helm. But, um, yeah, man, anyway,
- 4:01Speaker 1: let's talk some real sports. I always, I hate when
- 4:03Speaker 1: people talk about their fantasy teams, but, um, and then
- 4:06Speaker 1: you and I just sat here and did it for
- 4:07Speaker 1: a little while. So, um, um, let's move on again.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Once again, there's no, there's no ties. I'm the champ.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'm, I'm the champ. Um, but, uh, and then chop
- 4:16Speaker 1: his birthday present. I mean, I'm sorry. His, uh, His
- 4:20Speaker 1: wedding gift for me, besides the envelope, I feel like
- 4:25Speaker 1: where I'm from in Jersey, I think we naturally go
- 4:28Speaker 1: heavier with the envelope than other people do throughout the country.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I wonder. And it's like a question that's hard to
- 4:34Speaker 1: ask people. And then if you're one person or you're
- 4:38Speaker 1: two people, all that changes.
- 4:39Speaker 2: But hey.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Jersey, where I'm from, you're coming with a C-note per person, minimum.
- 4:45Speaker 1: That's for just if you're coming to the wedding. And
- 4:48Speaker 1: I know people do less than that, and I don't
- 4:50Speaker 1: look down on them for doing so. It's just where
- 4:52Speaker 1: I'm from, I guess. But listen, man, Choppa gets the
- 4:57Speaker 1: win against me in fantasy by three. I thought I
- 5:00Speaker 1: was over. I thought I was good. London did nothing
- 5:03Speaker 1: in the first half. Then all of a sudden, London
- 5:05Speaker 1: blows up in the second half, and I end up
- 5:07Speaker 1: losing by three. A very good 130 week. I'm now,
- 5:10Speaker 1: you know, just tailspinning after starting 2-0. I really, really,
- 5:13Speaker 1: really could have used that dub.
- 5:16Speaker 2: You and I were two of the four highest scoring
- 5:18Speaker 2: teams in the league last week. And unfortunately, two of
- 5:21Speaker 2: the highest scoring teams in the league we played against.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And they were both at the wedding.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Tough one.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 1: But, you know, Marty, his team, I was giving him
- 5:33Speaker 1: a hard team, but his team being garbage. All of
- 5:34Speaker 1: a sudden, Drake Mays looks pretty good. The bet that
- 5:39Speaker 1: I made with him, Drake May versus, what's his name,
- 5:45Speaker 1: best quarterback stats? That shit's done.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to say, May, he's come alive
- 5:50Speaker 2: the last two weeks. He's thrown for over 400 yards
- 5:52Speaker 2: and seven touchdowns. It's just one pick. Oh, and that
- 5:56Speaker 2: seven touchdown pass is, sorry, plus one rushing.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and Justin Herbert is the worst fucking quarterback in
- 6:02Speaker 1: the goddamn league.
- 6:04Speaker 2: That's like, Justin Herbert this year is like my worst
- 6:08Speaker 2: take since you and I said Nikola Jokic was not
- 6:10Speaker 2: a top five center.
- 6:13Speaker 1: It wasn't, but Jokic was not at that time, but
- 6:17Speaker 1: obviously we know what Jokic is now.
- 6:18Speaker 2: It ain't as well. My Herbert prediction this year is,
- 6:22Speaker 2: oh my God, dude, it's been awful. It has been,
- 6:26Speaker 2: I thought he could legitimately win MVP. Oh my God,
- 6:29Speaker 2: I need to like, I need to go back and
- 6:31Speaker 2: probably drug test myself to see what I was on
- 6:33Speaker 2: during that when I first thought that.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I felt really good making those preseason bets with
- 6:39Speaker 1: Marty during the draft. It's not looking good for you, boy. But, okay,
- 6:45Speaker 1: so speaking of football, you see the hat that I'm
- 6:47Speaker 1: wearing to start off things. The New York Jets, they
- 6:49Speaker 1: go out there, they win ugly 17 to 12. They,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know, it is a game where the rain is
- 6:59Speaker 1: coming down. It's windy. It's MetLife. It's exactly what it's
- 7:03Speaker 1: supposed to be. And the Jets come out and they
- 7:06Speaker 1: do just enough. You have a Cleveland team that they
- 7:12Speaker 1: have gotten probably the most surprising start of anyone in
- 7:16Speaker 1: the NFL. Not just the fact that they're 3-1, but
- 7:19Speaker 1: if you look at all of their stats, they are
- 7:22Speaker 1: getting outgained. They have more turnovers, less time of possession,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and yet still they found a way to 3-1. So
- 7:30Speaker 1: that seems like it could be a little bit fraudulent.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And then the Jets... are a team who the defense
- 7:34Speaker 1: has played a little bit better than you expect, but
- 7:36Speaker 1: then they got exposed by Ben Johnson and the Chicago
- 7:39Speaker 1: Bears the week before. And Geno Smith, much better than
- 7:44Speaker 1: you would expect. The fact that Geno Smith still hasn't
- 7:46Speaker 1: thrown an interception and has completion percentage numbers that are
- 7:51Speaker 1: around the top of the league and is showing you
- 7:55Speaker 1: what a guy like Garrett Wilson can look like when
- 7:57Speaker 1: he has a real quarterback, Any Jets fan has to
- 8:00Speaker 1: say that we've gotten as much, if not more, than
- 8:03Speaker 1: we could expect out of Geno. Geno, I'd like you
- 8:05Speaker 1: to get the ball out of your hand a little
- 8:07Speaker 1: bit earlier. He's holding on to the ball. It's not
- 8:10Speaker 1: just eye test. I've seen some stats breaking it down.
- 8:12Speaker 1: He's holding on to the ball a little bit too much.
- 8:14Speaker 1: He definitely needs to go ahead and let it go. But,
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know, he goes 17 to 30. Like I said,
- 8:19Speaker 1: not great conditions. 182 and a touchdown. Very good opening drive.
- 8:23Speaker 1: That opening drive of each half in the NFL is
- 8:26Speaker 1: so important. You see it over and over again. It
- 8:29Speaker 1: sets the tones for games. And, you know, we go
- 8:33Speaker 1: right down the field. We end with a highlight reel
- 8:36Speaker 1: touchdown for Garrett Wilson where he catches the ball coming
- 8:38Speaker 1: across the middle, makes a spin move, and then, you know,
- 8:40Speaker 1: goes ahead and high steps into the end zone. Wilson
- 8:43Speaker 1: ends up with seven catches, 104 yards, and a touchdown.
- 8:46Speaker 1: And it's just nice. It's really nice to see what
- 8:48Speaker 1: he looks like with a legit quarterback. You know, last year,
- 8:51Speaker 1: Justin Fields, rugby player, you know, he didn't look so great.
- 8:54Speaker 1: But now that he has Geno, who at least– We'll
- 8:57Speaker 1: let it go and throw it down the field and
- 9:00Speaker 1: has a decent arm on him. You get to see
- 9:03Speaker 1: what he can be. And now hopefully the Jets can
- 9:05Speaker 1: get some of those receivers that have been down. They're
- 9:08Speaker 1: starting to look like maybe they'll be coming back in
- 9:11Speaker 1: the next couple weeks. Really want to see what Cooper
- 9:15Speaker 1: looks like. Guy had one big catch in the first
- 9:18Speaker 1: game and then gets the high ankle sprain. We haven't
- 9:21Speaker 1: seen him since. And A.D.? Adonai Mitchell. You really want
- 9:29Speaker 1: to see what he's going to look like when he
- 9:30Speaker 1: comes back. So the Jets really get a win at
- 9:34Speaker 1: the best time, at the most important time. Now you're
- 9:37Speaker 1: at 2-3. You have a chance to go into New England,
- 9:42Speaker 1: get a big win there. And even if you don't,
- 9:45Speaker 1: the Jets' schedule starts to look a little bit... You
- 9:48Speaker 1: could see a real path for the Jets being 4-4.
- 9:53Speaker 1: We lose this week, we're 2-4. And then you get
- 9:55Speaker 1: the Dolphins... And then I believe you get the right.
- 10:02Speaker 1: And if the Jets are 4-4, you got to take
- 10:03Speaker 1: a step back and look at it and say, hey,
- 10:05Speaker 1: we'll take it. But the real story to come out
- 10:09Speaker 1: of this last game, David Bailey. Number two overall pick.
- 10:14Speaker 1: He has been under some scrutiny here recently, specifically because
- 10:19Speaker 1: Arvel Reese, right here in New York, you know they're
- 10:24Speaker 1: always going to be compared. People argued over who was
- 10:29Speaker 1: the better player, the player that made more sense to
- 10:31Speaker 1: take at number two. I personally wanted Reese, just from
- 10:35Speaker 1: what I had seen in college and what people talked
- 10:40Speaker 1: about his skill set, his versatility. And then you have
- 10:42Speaker 1: Reese having games where he's getting– multiple pressures, game wrecker, and,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know, he's getting interceptions and shit. And then from
- 10:49Speaker 1: David Bailey through, what, through three games or through four games,
- 10:57Speaker 1: he only had two sacks. And people were like, oh, man,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I don't know. But then he comes up with a
- 11:02Speaker 1: six-sack game, seven tackles, three of those tackles were for loss.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And it's not just the statistics. It's not just that
- 11:11Speaker 1: he got home. When you watch that game, he dominated
- 11:13Speaker 1: that game. especially the second half. He absolutely dominated and
- 11:18Speaker 1: had his imprint all over the game. So you got
- 11:26Speaker 1: to be impressed with Bailey. I mean, it was in
- 11:29Speaker 1: the run game as well. And his ability in bad conditions,
- 11:35Speaker 1: no gloves. I love that he plays no gloves, just
- 11:38Speaker 1: barehanded out there. And he's able to not only get home,
- 11:42Speaker 1: but even when he's not, Always, always be a factor.
- 11:46Speaker 1: And that's what you need out of the number two pick.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It was very, very good to see that for him.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Now all of a sudden he's third in the NFL
- 11:51Speaker 1: in sacks. And that's the thing. It's tough. You've got
- 11:55Speaker 1: to look at the– from week to week to scrutinize,
- 11:59Speaker 1: especially an edge rusher, is tough because you look at
- 12:05Speaker 1: quarterback pressures and if they have a bunch of those
- 12:06Speaker 1: but they don't get the sack, then you're going to
- 12:08Speaker 1: be like, oh, well, he's got to get home. He's
- 12:11Speaker 1: got to get home. We need the actual sacks. But then,
- 12:15Speaker 1: quite often, the sacks, they come in bunches. It's not
- 12:19Speaker 1: often that a guy's just like, you know, gets one
- 12:21Speaker 1: sack a week, one sack a week. No, he's going
- 12:23Speaker 1: to have a week where he maybe doesn't have any sacks,
- 12:24Speaker 1: but then he's going to have that week where he
- 12:25Speaker 1: has two or three. And if you stack a couple
- 12:29Speaker 1: of those in a row, all of a sudden, you
- 12:31Speaker 1: look like you're the man. You stack a couple of
- 12:33Speaker 1: those zeros in a row, you get the opposite effect.
- 12:35Speaker 1: So everybody needs to, you know, keep a cool booty
- 12:38Speaker 1: when it comes to, you know, being out here and
- 12:41Speaker 1: measuring these young players so much. But listen, last week,
- 12:45Speaker 1: this time I was saying, David Bailey needs to get
- 12:48Speaker 1: home and it looks like this guy over Reese is way,
- 12:50Speaker 1: way better than him. So I'm a prisoner of the
- 12:53Speaker 1: moment too. I'm a fan just like y'all.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 12:56Speaker 1: But you know, but go ahead.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I was like, I think there's a couple of factors
- 13:00Speaker 2: at play here. If you look at the giants defensive
- 13:02Speaker 2: line on paper coming into the season, there's going to
- 13:05Speaker 2: be a lot more opportunities for Reese just, you know,
- 13:07Speaker 2: based off some of the names that they had, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 2: even before Brian Burns got hurt and Dexter Lawrence got
- 13:12Speaker 2: traded and, You know, you saw Burns, Thibodeau, a couple
- 13:14Speaker 2: other guys, you know, who were really, you know, just
- 13:17Speaker 2: really good players.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Abdul Carter.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Abdul Carter, a stud.
- 13:21Speaker 1: He's balling, yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah. David Bailey's got a 24.7 double team slash chip
- 13:26Speaker 2: rate right now. So basically, one of every four snaps,
- 13:28Speaker 2: he's being doubled or chipped. And, yeah, it makes it
- 13:31Speaker 2: a little harder to get home. So Bailey's impact is
- 13:33Speaker 2: being felt just in different ways. He's just getting a
- 13:36Speaker 2: lot of extra attention. He's clearly a guy, at this point,
- 13:41Speaker 2: you know that's your defensive corner stuff. Like he is
- 13:44Speaker 2: the dude you build that defense around now.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I hope so. I'm not going to say clearly just because,
- 13:50Speaker 1: you know, Jets fans, you know, we've, we were around
- 13:54Speaker 1: for Vernon Goldstein, you know, I've seen, I've seen a
- 13:57Speaker 1: guy like a, even like a Will McDonald at one point,
- 13:59Speaker 1: you were like, yo, this is the guy, what a
- 14:01Speaker 1: pass rusher that he is. But there's so many things
- 14:04Speaker 1: like the thing about that most to me, the, by
- 14:07Speaker 1: far the most encouraging thing that we've seen from Bailey
- 14:09Speaker 1: thus far is that he looks like he knows how
- 14:11Speaker 1: to play the run. That was the big knock on
- 14:13Speaker 1: him coming out of college was that he couldn't set
- 14:14Speaker 1: the edge and he was just a pass rusher. He
- 14:16Speaker 1: looks like he knows how to play the run, and
- 14:19Speaker 1: he doesn't have to win strictly on speed. He had
- 14:21Speaker 1: a couple rushes this past week where he faked the
- 14:24Speaker 1: speed and just bull rushed and went straight through the
- 14:26Speaker 1: right tackle and pushed him directly back into Deshaun Watson.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Give Deshaun Watson a little credit, too. You want to
- 14:34Speaker 1: talk about people being, you know, talk about surprises this year.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Is there any bigger surprise than how well Deshaun Watson
- 14:40Speaker 1: has played?
- 14:41Speaker 2: I mean, we talk about the biggest surprise as a
- 14:44Speaker 2: disappointment being Justin Herbert. But no, you're right. Deshaun Watson's
- 14:46Speaker 2: played very well so far. You know, we had a
- 14:50Speaker 2: meh game on Sunday. He did have three fumbles and
- 14:54Speaker 2: lost one of them. But, you know, for the most
- 14:57Speaker 2: part this season, outside of games two, three, and four,
- 15:00Speaker 2: he has been fantastic. And, yeah, you do have to
- 15:04Speaker 2: own it and say he's played pretty well. And his
- 15:06Speaker 2: play is definitely a big reason why the Browns are over.
- 15:09Speaker 2: 500 at the moment. One other interesting stat for you.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I want to go back to the rain here. You know,
- 15:15Speaker 2: since 2022, 14 of the 35 Jets home games have
- 15:18Speaker 2: been played in the rain. That leaves the league by
- 15:21Speaker 2: four games.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Wow.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I mean, before the after the game, you know, Garrett Wilson,
- 15:28Speaker 1: some people try to twist this and make it like
- 15:30Speaker 1: he was trying to like slight the Jets. But he said, yeah, man,
- 15:32Speaker 1: I mean, that's just football. You know, it's going to
- 15:34Speaker 1: be ugly out there. You know, that's that's MetLife, especially
- 15:37Speaker 1: in the wintertime. You know, that's what the weather is
- 15:38Speaker 1: going to be. And yeah, I mean, the thing about
- 15:42Speaker 1: MetLife that a lot of people don't realize, too, is
- 15:45Speaker 1: is that so the Meadowlands is like just like flat
- 15:51Speaker 1: and just like flat. And there's not a lot around.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It's you know, it's it's it's not super north New Jersey,
- 15:56Speaker 1: but it's a little it's definitely northern New Jersey. And
- 15:59Speaker 1: it's just like flat. So like the wind. Actually, previous
- 16:03Speaker 1: Giants stadium, I think, before MetLife was even a little
- 16:05Speaker 1: bit worse when it comes to the wind. But, like,
- 16:07Speaker 1: the wind and the cold, and that's why, like, you
- 16:10Speaker 1: can't have a quarterback with a weak arm if that's
- 16:14Speaker 1: your home team. That's where, if you look at those
- 16:17Speaker 1: Jets teams back in the day, Chad Pennington, and he had,
- 16:21Speaker 1: you know, Chad Pennington's arguably, he's had maybe the second
- 16:24Speaker 1: best statistical year of a Jets quarterback ever. And Chad
- 16:27Speaker 1: Pennington had some real years where he was competitive and
- 16:30Speaker 1: he gave the Jets a shot. Everybody knows that Chad
- 16:33Speaker 1: Pennington had a pea shooter for an arm. And if
- 16:37Speaker 1: you look at the Jets teams under Chad Pennington, they
- 16:40Speaker 1: start off well, they tail off at the end. It's
- 16:42Speaker 1: because they got wintertime. And, you know, the whole AFC East,
- 16:46Speaker 1: you need an arm, man. You need a strong arm
- 16:48Speaker 1: to be able to cut through the winter. And what
- 16:49Speaker 1: you also need is a running game. And Braylon Allen,
- 16:52Speaker 1: the big thumper, he definitely provided that this past Sunday.
- 16:55Speaker 1: 24 carries, 116 yards, game-winning touchdowns. showed a little bit
- 17:01Speaker 1: more nimble feet, showed the ability to break the big one,
- 17:03Speaker 1: which many people say was the thing that was the
- 17:06Speaker 1: big question mark with him here recently. And definitely not
- 17:10Speaker 1: quite the pass catcher out of the backfield like Brees
- 17:14Speaker 1: Hall is, but there's definitely Jets fans. And I can't
- 17:17Speaker 1: say I haven't wondered it where I say, you know,
- 17:20Speaker 1: we just signed Brees to this huge contract. Is Braylon
- 17:24Speaker 1: Allen just as effective as him?
- 17:29Speaker 2: Brees.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Brees is one of these guys, similar like a Le'Veon Bell. B.
- 17:35Speaker 1: John has this as well. Just very patient and then
- 17:40Speaker 1: wants to get that cut back or that pop outside
- 17:42Speaker 1: and go. And that leads to some big runs. But
- 17:46Speaker 1: there's other times where maybe a four or five yard
- 17:49Speaker 1: run is a one or a two yard run. And
- 17:55Speaker 1: Braylon Allen definitely hits the hole quicker than Brees does.
- 17:58Speaker 1: And he's obviously a much bigger man and can push
- 18:01Speaker 1: that pole and carry that pile, a lot more than
- 18:07Speaker 1: Brees can. And so there's, it's definitely a question. And,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you know, as Brees gets healthy and comes back, especially
- 18:16Speaker 1: depending on how Braylon continues to assert himself in that
- 18:19Speaker 1: role between now and then, it's going to be more
- 18:22Speaker 1: and more of a question over, you know, who's the
- 18:25Speaker 1: more effective back and who needs to be getting the
- 18:26Speaker 1: bulk of the carries. Huge, huge game for him. And
- 18:30Speaker 1: then another thing that I noticed was, so during the game,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I had multiple texts with my pops and with my
- 18:35Speaker 1: boy Chad talking about how Tittman was just getting just
- 18:38Speaker 1: absolutely beat like a drum. Whenever there was like a,
- 18:43Speaker 1: you would see a replay and it's a play where,
- 18:46Speaker 1: you know, the run gets blown up or Geno's getting sacked,
- 18:50Speaker 1: it's Joe Tittman getting beat over and over and over
- 18:52Speaker 1: and over again. And then I see, I think it
- 18:57Speaker 1: was yesterday, I see on X highest rated Jets offensive
- 19:04Speaker 1: lineman from this past Sunday's game is Joe Tippman, pro
- 19:07Speaker 1: football focus. So I have, I've always, you know, there's
- 19:13Speaker 1: always some, there's always some things that come out that
- 19:17Speaker 1: seem a little bit puzzling from what you're seeing. I test,
- 19:20Speaker 1: but I'm like, okay, well maybe, you know, there's some
- 19:22Speaker 1: things I'm missing. I was keen on Tippman. I saw
- 19:24Speaker 1: multiple plays where he got beat. If he is the
- 19:27Speaker 1: top rated, On PFF, I give PFF zero credence moving forward.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I don't ever, I'm never, it's one of those where
- 19:36Speaker 1: when it's in your favor, it's fun to be like, well,
- 19:38Speaker 1: according to PFF. But then when it's not, you're like, well,
- 19:42Speaker 1: I'm officially on the, I don't know. Fuck PFF. I'm off.
- 19:46Speaker 1: They think Thomas, that Tippman was the guy? I'm out.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm out on PFF. Bum, what do you think about PFF?
- 19:53Speaker 2: Look, you know how much I love Collinsworth. I love
- 19:56Speaker 2: PFF for being able to do the mock draft simulator.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I don't buy half of the grades. I don't know
- 20:03Speaker 2: what goes into it. And at least half the time,
- 20:07Speaker 2: I'm like, I get the same thing you do. You'll
- 20:09Speaker 2: see a guy get highly graded. You're like, the same
- 20:12Speaker 2: guy just watched on tape either get beat six times,
- 20:15Speaker 2: not be able to get some separation on routes, get
- 20:18Speaker 2: cooked by a receiver. It's all puzzling. So yeah, I
- 20:22Speaker 2: am in that part of PFF, big out. The mock
- 20:25Speaker 2: draft simulator, big time in. And that's about it. Also
- 20:29Speaker 2: wanted to go back to Jets quarterback seasons, talking about
- 20:32Speaker 2: Chad Pennington. So by passing yardage, sixth best, Single season
- 20:38Speaker 2: all-time for a Jet. 3,120 passing yards. 22 touchdowns to
- 20:42Speaker 2: six interceptions.
- 20:45Speaker 1: 22 to six. And I bet he had a really,
- 20:47Speaker 1: really high completion percentage.
- 20:49Speaker 2: That year, too. He had a 104.2 passer rating that year,
- 20:55Speaker 2: which was really nice. The other interesting thing about that
- 20:58Speaker 2: time is it still really wasn't that much of a
- 20:59Speaker 2: passing league at that point. Oh, no. Yeah. So you
- 21:02Speaker 2: kind of wonder... if he is in an era like
- 21:06Speaker 2: this where there's a lot more obviously passing involved, what
- 21:09Speaker 2: he could have done.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Yeah, listen. Chad, he was never going to be that
- 21:16Speaker 1: great just because of the arm. The popcorn arm was
- 21:19Speaker 1: just always going to hold him back. But he's definitely
- 21:21Speaker 1: a guy that if you put him in the right situation,
- 21:23Speaker 1: he could be a very steady, you know, a dependable
- 21:27Speaker 1: quarterback for sure. But whenever you look at the stats,
- 21:31Speaker 1: especially with the quarterback, You know, there's an era where
- 21:34Speaker 1: it's like, OK, you know, the game just wasn't played
- 21:38Speaker 1: that way. The rules were a whole lot different. They
- 21:40Speaker 1: obviously very, very much, you know, favor the offense now.
- 21:45Speaker 1: And there's all this protection of the receivers. We see
- 21:48Speaker 1: we've seen a couple of guys get knocked out, including
- 21:51Speaker 1: Minka Fitzpatrick knocking out Concepcion early in that game. And
- 21:54Speaker 1: then what's the dude's name? It's not York. What's that?
- 21:58Speaker 1: There was a there was a look at the Browns
- 22:01Speaker 1: receivers for me. Yo, because that was the– honestly, like,
- 22:04Speaker 1: as much as the Jets go out and they win
- 22:06Speaker 1: that game, okay, we're going to give them credit for
- 22:07Speaker 1: winning the game. Aaron Glenn, good job. We're going to
- 22:09Speaker 1: give him credit. You know, no huge blunders. Seemed like
- 22:12Speaker 1: he knew what he was doing. And, you know, we're
- 22:15Speaker 1: going to give credit for that. But let's be realistic.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson didn't play his best game. I think the
- 22:23Speaker 1: thing that you see from him, and he did kill
- 22:25Speaker 1: the Jets with this a couple times, is that his
- 22:27Speaker 1: legs look more like they used to, and he's able
- 22:29Speaker 1: to scramble– and get some first downs and kill you
- 22:33Speaker 1: when you think you got him on a third down.
- 22:35Speaker 1: There's a couple times we had him dead to right,
- 22:37Speaker 1: and he avoided a tackle, and then ran for a
- 22:40Speaker 1: little 15-yard scamper. But he has the fumbles. They have
- 22:47Speaker 1: a punt in the fourth quarter that goes over the
- 22:50Speaker 1: snap in the rain, goes over the punter's head. Jets
- 22:54Speaker 1: recover it inside the 20, and they're able to get
- 22:56Speaker 1: a score there. And you had their receivers. So they
- 23:06Speaker 1: already had receivers injured. And then the Jets knock out Concepcion,
- 23:12Speaker 1: Minkah Fitzpatrick. They say it's dirty here. I just think
- 23:15Speaker 1: it's so impossible for these guys to... you know, aim
- 23:19Speaker 1: for this moving target. He's catching him, trying to catch
- 23:21Speaker 1: the ball. He's ducking that, all these things. And it's
- 23:24Speaker 1: not like he hit him after the ball went through.
- 23:26Speaker 1: He actually dislodged the ball by his hit. So, like,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I mean, what's he supposed to do? It's tough, very,
- 23:30Speaker 1: very tough. Guys like, you know, a Ryan Clark could
- 23:33Speaker 1: never play in today's league. But without some dropped passes,
- 23:39Speaker 1: I mean, they had some horrible drops. What are the
- 23:43Speaker 1: Browns receivers' names?
- 23:45Speaker 2: Okay, so you have another rookie– Denzel Boston.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Boston played well. Nice touchdown.
- 23:52Speaker 2: He's an absolute stud. You have Jerry Judy still on
- 23:55Speaker 2: the roster. Boston. You have Isaiah Bond, second-year guy. Had
- 24:00Speaker 2: a little issue going into his draft year, which basically
- 24:04Speaker 2: allowed the Browns to sign him undrafted. You have that
- 24:07Speaker 2: guy in Tylan Wallace. And then you have your former boy,
- 24:11Speaker 2: Malachi Corley.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Malachi Corley. You said Bond was one of them?
- 24:15Speaker 2: Isaiah Bond, yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Does he have, like, blonde dreads?
- 24:25Speaker 2: Does he now? I'm not sure. He played at Texas
- 24:28Speaker 2: for his– he played at Bama, and then he transferred
- 24:32Speaker 2: to Texas his final year of college.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Yeah, okay. It's Isaiah Bond. Yo, this dude, he's– I
- 24:37Speaker 1: don't understand how you play, you know, wide receiver in
- 24:40Speaker 1: the NFL, and this is how you catch the ball.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I mean, Jesus. I mean, he had some horrid, horrid drops.
- 24:47Speaker 1: You know, one late in the game when they were
- 24:49Speaker 1: trying to come back and trying to get a score
- 24:52Speaker 1: to go back ahead after they were taking the lead
- 24:54Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. Then the Jets took the lead
- 24:56Speaker 1: and then Bond. I mean, just in the scene. Perfect, though.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Right in the hands. You know, he's not wearing gloves.
- 25:01Speaker 1: A lot of guys know go no gloves in the rain.
- 25:03Speaker 1: They feel like once those gloves get slick in the
- 25:05Speaker 1: rain that they're even, you know, that your regular bare
- 25:09Speaker 1: hands would be even better. Yeah, I just, that kid sucks, man.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but he, you know, a couple times that
- 25:15Speaker 1: he just catches the ball and without that punt going
- 25:18Speaker 1: over the punter's head, just don't win that game. And,
- 25:20Speaker 1: you know, you feel totally different. But at the end
- 25:22Speaker 1: of the day, it's a win or loss business and
- 25:25Speaker 1: the Jets won. A.C. Thomas, shout to him. Great job
- 25:28Speaker 1: as a corner so far this year. He, you know,
- 25:32Speaker 1: he's highly rated. I think his PFF somewhere else, who knows.
- 25:35Speaker 1: But he's looking good wearing number one. Looks a whole
- 25:37Speaker 1: lot better than the guy who wore number one before him,
- 25:40Speaker 1: Sauce Gardner. That game in London, not this past week,
- 25:44Speaker 1: but the week before, I watched him give up 100
- 25:46Speaker 1: yards in two plays. Yeah, man, that Sauce trade looking
- 25:50Speaker 1: better and better. The Colts suck. We're getting that pick,
- 25:54Speaker 1: and Sauce has fallen off of a clip. Cliff, and
- 25:57Speaker 1: shout to Quincy Williams. Quincy Williams plays his old team,
- 26:00Speaker 1: the New York Jets, and absolutely balls out. He was
- 26:04Speaker 1: all over the field. He had four forced fumbles. I
- 26:10Speaker 1: think only one of those ended up being recovered by
- 26:15Speaker 1: the Browns. But damn, man, Quincy, Jesus, all over the field,
- 26:19Speaker 1: in coverage, sacking a quarterback, in the running game, just fantastic. Fantastic.
- 26:26Speaker 1: And shout out to him. I was a big Quincy
- 26:28Speaker 1: fan when he was on the Jets. And I especially
- 26:31Speaker 1: loved the whole him and his brother both being on
- 26:33Speaker 1: the team. I thought it was so dope. So he's
- 26:36Speaker 1: a guy that I wish to be. I told my
- 26:37Speaker 1: dad before the game, I said, yo, watch out for Quincy, man.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Quincy coming back against us. He said back when he
- 26:43Speaker 1: was on the Jets, he said, if they trade me,
- 26:46Speaker 1: it's going to be, you know, I'm going to do
- 26:49Speaker 1: my best to make it a nightmare. And he said
- 26:51Speaker 1: before the game, the nightmare starts today. And shit. He
- 26:54Speaker 1: stepped up and he did his thing. Shout to Quincy.
- 26:56Speaker 1: But Jets are able to get the win. Like I said,
- 26:59Speaker 1: play the Patriots. All of a sudden, Patriots, who people forget,
- 27:02Speaker 1: started off 1-2 last year. Drake May and the Patriots
- 27:05Speaker 1: all of a sudden look like they're pretty good. Now,
- 27:07Speaker 1: they've done well these last couple weeks against two shitty defenses.
- 27:11Speaker 1: And so we're not sure, you know, what version of
- 27:14Speaker 1: the Patriots we're going to get. But this Jets defense,
- 27:16Speaker 1: which is, you know, top 10 and top 5 in
- 27:19Speaker 1: some categories, they get a real test. Last time they
- 27:23Speaker 1: had a real test against Chicago, against their backup quarterback,
- 27:28Speaker 1: the Jets were not able to step up to the plate.
- 27:33Speaker 1: And now against Drake May and the Patriots this week,
- 27:36Speaker 1: if they're able to pull off this one, now you
- 27:38Speaker 1: start looking at the season. Now we're 3-3. We could
- 27:40Speaker 1: be shit. You're looking at it like, oh, we could
- 27:44Speaker 1: be 5-3. 4-4 would feel great. 5-3, you're cooking with gas.
- 27:49Speaker 1: So we'll see what goes on with these Jets. It's
- 27:51Speaker 1: a wild week in the NFL. We'll talk about that
- 27:54Speaker 1: a little bit more length. First though, Giants and the Redskins.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Giants skins end up in a tie. I hate, I hate,
- 28:04Speaker 1: I hate that it's ties, but I hate the ties exist.
- 28:07Speaker 1: We had three ties in the NFL this week. I'm sorry.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Three overtime games in the NFL this week.
- 28:12Speaker 1: One of them ends up in a tie. And for me,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I wish there was a different way, but Bob, I'll
- 28:19Speaker 1: ask you this. I mean, Football, you can't make them
- 28:22Speaker 1: play forever, right? So there has to be a point
- 28:24Speaker 1: where you say, all right, that's enough.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't make them play forever for sure, but
- 28:28Speaker 2: there is definitely a way to alleviate ties. I think
- 28:31Speaker 2: the way college does it is fantastic.
- 28:33Speaker 1: That's so not NFL, though. They're not going to do it.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I think you should have kicked the ball off and
- 28:38Speaker 2: every team should get a possession.
- 28:41Speaker 1: That's what you have to do in the NFL now.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Yeah, in the NFL, yes, except for the fact that
- 28:47Speaker 2: the game is still timed instead of you know, like
- 28:52Speaker 2: in college, you start with 25-yard line or something like that.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:56Speaker 2: I would move the quarter back. I would move the
- 28:58Speaker 2: overtime period back to 15 minutes. But, you know, when
- 29:02Speaker 2: you also have, like, that's what I would do, especially
- 29:05Speaker 2: because teams, like, you look at what happened in the
- 29:09Speaker 2: Monday night game where it seemed like the Bills were trying,
- 29:13Speaker 2: both teams were just basically trying to take the air
- 29:15Speaker 2: out of football and kind of just get it to
- 29:17Speaker 2: one possession where, I think it should just be untimed
- 29:20Speaker 2: personally and just let each team get a possession and
- 29:23Speaker 2: you figure it out from there, but you have to
- 29:24Speaker 2: kick the ball off and see what happens.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I'm with it. I'm not mad at that. Yeah, I
- 29:31Speaker 1: like that. It's better than what they have right now. Skadaboo, huge,
- 29:36Speaker 1: huge fumble. You know, the Giants are going down. Jameis
- 29:39Speaker 1: is hot. Jameis is cooking. Skadaboo's cooking. He's running all
- 29:42Speaker 1: over the Redskins defense, you know, getting up, flexing and shit.
- 29:47Speaker 1: And then he gets the ball punched out. And, you know,
- 29:50Speaker 1: these NFL players are so good at punching out the ball.
- 29:52Speaker 1: We saw it over and over again this week. And Skadaboo.
- 29:56Speaker 1: is just absolutely crestfallen on the sidelines. And then Jalen
- 30:04Speaker 1: Daniels and the Redskins offense. It's scary. Terry, he's running
- 30:10Speaker 1: up the sideline. They're going down the field. All looks good. Yo, man,
- 30:16Speaker 1: that shit that they did at the end, man, where
- 30:20Speaker 1: you have Daniels, where it looks like he's supposed to
- 30:22Speaker 1: throw a passing play, throw it out of bounds. But instead...
- 30:25Speaker 1: He goes down in no rush to get up. There's
- 30:31Speaker 1: 12 seconds. Everybody acts like they have no idea what's
- 30:34Speaker 1: going on. I have my feeling on it. But, Paul,
- 30:38Speaker 1: what did you feel? And who do you lay blame
- 30:41Speaker 1: on more, Daniels or Quinn?
- 30:43Speaker 2: All right, so first off, I got to do one
- 30:45Speaker 2: quick name correction. It's J. Lynn Daniels. J. Lynn Daniels
- 30:48Speaker 2: was the quarterback who cooked the Cowboys on Thursday night.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Everybody else in all sports is named Jalen. So, I mean,
- 30:55Speaker 1: he wants to be the one guy.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Too many Jalens in the NFL, you know?
- 30:58Speaker 1: NFL, NBA, everywhere.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yeah, except there's only one great Jalen that we all
- 31:02Speaker 2: know who that Jalen is. But we can get to
- 31:04Speaker 2: that at another point.
- 31:05Speaker 1: No, no, no. Listen, listen. I give props to the originator,
- 31:09Speaker 1: Jalen Rose. Think about this. No one was named Jalen
- 31:12Speaker 1: before him. Fab Five, Michigan, that was my shit. But
- 31:18Speaker 1: no one was named that before him. And now everybody's
- 31:20Speaker 1: fucking Jalen. That's pretty impressive, right? You gotta, listen, you
- 31:24Speaker 1: gotta give props to the original Jalen, Jalen Rose, because
- 31:29Speaker 1: you have so many Jalen's after that in all of sports,
- 31:34Speaker 1: in all walks of life. And they all have to,
- 31:37Speaker 1: you have to say they all originate with him.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Yeah. And you know, I'm as big of a Jalen
- 31:42Speaker 2: Rose guy as you are too. I'm legit sad that
- 31:44Speaker 2: he's not an ESPN anymore. I thought them getting rid
- 31:46Speaker 2: of him was so dumb.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Did you see, did you see like some of
- 31:51Speaker 1: the stuff with him going back and forth and then like,
- 31:53Speaker 1: you know, like Molly and Stephen A and the whole thing? Yeah.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Yeah. So hold on.
- 32:00Speaker 1: So he, so he talks shit about Stephen. He said
- 32:02Speaker 1: something about Stephen A and then somebody else was like,
- 32:05Speaker 1: somebody else came in and was like, oh, Clearly he's
- 32:08Speaker 1: mad because Steve Vinay, you know, that he clapped Molly. And,
- 32:13Speaker 1: you know, what's his name? You know, Jalen comes back
- 32:15Speaker 1: and he says something. There's a whole back and forth
- 32:17Speaker 1: with that. But I was just surprised, like, that he
- 32:20Speaker 1: was willing to sit there and go back and forth
- 32:24Speaker 1: with somebody in the comments like that. I don't know, man.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I see. I like Jalen Rose. And I like Molly. Um,
- 32:35Speaker 1: and so I don't really want to, you know, they
- 32:39Speaker 1: were an actual real ass couple and everything like that
- 32:41Speaker 1: married and everything. So like, you know, um, I don't
- 32:45Speaker 1: really like commenting on shit like that too much. And
- 32:47Speaker 1: especially if there's nothing specifically that, you know, I find
- 32:49Speaker 1: funny around it, but, um, and then the whole, you know,
- 32:52Speaker 1: with Molly and Steven, a, that rumor has been out
- 32:55Speaker 1: there a few times, but that's one of those things
- 32:57Speaker 1: where it's like, I almost feel bad just because Molly being, um,
- 33:01Speaker 1: a beautiful woman. I feel like if she has a
- 33:03Speaker 1: close working relationship with any dude, that there's going to
- 33:06Speaker 1: be a certain segment that immediately come up with that.
- 33:09Speaker 1: And who knows if there's ever any sort of, if
- 33:11Speaker 1: there's actually any type of truth with it at all.
- 33:14Speaker 1: But yeah, Daniels, Jaden, Daniels or Quinn, who's more fault.
- 33:19Speaker 2: You know what? I actually saw Micah Parsons talking about this,
- 33:23Speaker 2: this week too. He had said this on a podcast
- 33:26Speaker 2: interview or something where he basically said it's, it's Jaden's fault,
- 33:30Speaker 2: you know, and, you know, for this, this stuff is
- 33:33Speaker 2: basically embedded into our brain as a defender. I know this,
- 33:36Speaker 2: like the back of my hand is basically the way
- 33:38Speaker 2: he put it. I happen to agree here that it
- 33:41Speaker 2: is on the quarterback. And I actually really liked Micah
- 33:44Speaker 2: Parsons point. You're in year three. This isn't your rookie
- 33:48Speaker 2: year anymore, where you can, you, if you get a
- 33:51Speaker 2: first down or something like that, you get a clock
- 33:52Speaker 2: stoppage in college. Like this is year three. And you
- 33:55Speaker 2: had a basically most of last year, to sit and
- 33:58Speaker 2: watch and really get a better understanding of situational football
- 34:02Speaker 2: instead of having to just live through the fire with
- 34:05Speaker 2: his injury and not being available. I think this one
- 34:09Speaker 2: is on Daniels. You have to know better. You've got
- 34:12Speaker 2: to know to throw the ball away or clock it, whatever.
- 34:15Speaker 2: The last thing you can do in that situation is
- 34:17Speaker 2: take a sack. And he has to know better than
- 34:20Speaker 2: to try and run around or run away because you're
- 34:22Speaker 2: already running out of time anyway when you're doing that
- 34:24Speaker 2: and dancing around. You're way too close to kick a
- 34:27Speaker 2: game-winning field goal to do something that crazy. And their
- 34:32Speaker 2: teams have situational football coaches. Like, they literally have game
- 34:36Speaker 2: management coaches who talk about these things.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:39Speaker 2: So, yeah, I think this one's on the play.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Is it Jaden Daniels or is it Dan Quinn's fault?
- 34:50Speaker 1: It's both of theirs' fault. at the end of the day,
- 34:56Speaker 1: what I like my quarterback to understand the situation and
- 35:01Speaker 1: be able to manage that, make sure that, you know,
- 35:05Speaker 1: that first of all, we only have two timeouts. And
- 35:08Speaker 1: at this moment we have no more. The way I
- 35:11Speaker 1: watched that, it kind of felt like the whole Redskins
- 35:13Speaker 1: team thought that they had another timeout. I'm sorry. Commander's team.
- 35:18Speaker 2: My bad.
- 35:20Speaker 1: So, yeah, I think that, the quarterback should know better,
- 35:28Speaker 1: but also the coach at the end of the job,
- 35:33Speaker 1: your job is to make this idiot proof to make
- 35:37Speaker 1: sure that this mistake cannot happen. You're on a headset.
- 35:41Speaker 1: If you're not directly in Daniel's ear, then you at
- 35:44Speaker 1: least can get directly to the person who is, and
- 35:47Speaker 1: you make it very clear and you say it multiple times.
- 35:51Speaker 1: You say it twice. Hey, we have, zero timeouts left.
- 35:56Speaker 1: This next play, if it's not wide open, you throw
- 35:59Speaker 1: it over his head, and then we set up and
- 36:02Speaker 1: we kick the field goal and we win the game.
- 36:05Speaker 1: You have to make that crystal clear so there is
- 36:08Speaker 1: no interpretation. There is no room for error. Daniels, I
- 36:15Speaker 1: also need you to be able to understand the situation
- 36:17Speaker 1: and not have anybody you know give you the different
- 36:22Speaker 1: scenarios you need to be able to look around time
- 36:25Speaker 1: clock score and you know know what it is that
- 36:28Speaker 1: you need to do you definitely can't look like you
- 36:30Speaker 1: have no idea of what is going on when you
- 36:33Speaker 1: get put in that situation like he did is a
- 36:36Speaker 1: horrible look for them as michael parsons said people lose
- 36:39Speaker 1: their jobs over stuff like this and i just personally
- 36:43Speaker 1: feel like I still got to go with the head coach, man.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I still got to put it on the head. I
- 36:52Speaker 1: think that it's everybody's fault. Everybody should have done a
- 36:55Speaker 1: better job. I mean, I'm talking about even the, the,
- 36:57Speaker 1: from the linemen to the receivers and everybody involved on
- 37:00Speaker 1: that play, you know, nobody was in a rush, but
- 37:04Speaker 1: once you go down right there with that amount of
- 37:06Speaker 1: time and the receivers way down the field, the game
- 37:08Speaker 1: is over right there. There's no way you're getting it
- 37:10Speaker 1: back and clocking it at that point. So yes, you
- 37:12Speaker 1: definitely got to be smarter there. And yeah, If I'm
- 37:17Speaker 1: the coach, it's up to me to make sure that
- 37:19Speaker 1: no matter what is going on, I don't let that happen.
- 37:23Speaker 1: That I make it so crystal clear that it's idiot
- 37:25Speaker 1: proof that you can't make the mistake.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and the other thing with this too, for Quinn
- 37:29Speaker 2: at least, is where he's going to never have credibility
- 37:32Speaker 2: or ever get any grace is the whole 28-3 thing.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Of course. That whole Super Bowl thing and his game
- 37:37Speaker 2: management there is just never, this is always going to,
- 37:41Speaker 2: they're always going to bring that back and use it
- 37:43Speaker 2: against him. In this case, it's justified. Because, again, it's
- 37:46Speaker 2: just another point of bad game management by him.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Where it's not only bad game, it's egregious game management. Yeah. So, yeah,
- 37:55Speaker 2: at that point, yeah, more than fair. There were a
- 37:59Speaker 2: lot of instances of horrible game management in the NFL
- 38:02Speaker 2: this week.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Crazy week, man. I mean, like I said, three overtime games.
- 38:07Speaker 1: It seems like every game was within a score. Almost
- 38:11Speaker 1: every single game.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Nine one-score games this week.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Nine. Nine games that were within one score.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Second most of the season. Wow. Second most of the
- 38:17Speaker 2: week this season.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Really?
- 38:19Speaker 2: Yeah, a couple weeks ago we had 12.
- 38:22Speaker 1: That's surprising because it seemed like this week, like every
- 38:24Speaker 1: single game that I watched that I turned on was like,
- 38:26Speaker 1: you know, I usually, you know, that first game, I
- 38:30Speaker 1: usually watch just the Jets game. Sometimes I have on
- 38:32Speaker 1: red zone in the background, but then it gets a
- 38:34Speaker 1: little bit ahead of the game and now it's messing
- 38:36Speaker 1: up my, so I kind of like to just focus
- 38:37Speaker 1: just on the Jets. And then I usually, especially towards
- 38:41Speaker 1: the end of the Jets game, depending on what's going on,
- 38:42Speaker 1: if it's not, super close in a nail biter that
- 38:45Speaker 1: I like to get some witching hour in there and see, and,
- 38:47Speaker 1: you know, especially if the games are close. And as
- 38:49Speaker 1: soon as the jet game is off, usually those games
- 38:51Speaker 1: that are super close are going late. And then the
- 38:53Speaker 1: beginning of the next games, you know, I'm going with
- 38:55Speaker 1: red zone, picking up one game that I really want
- 38:57Speaker 1: to watch in the late hour, late block and watching that.
- 39:01Speaker 1: But yeah, man, this week was interesting, man. It was,
- 39:04Speaker 1: it just seemed like, you know, like I said, three
- 39:05Speaker 1: overtime games. You had the one tie. You had the,
- 39:11Speaker 1: which game?
- 39:11Speaker 2: The other game. The Eagles-Jags game, I mean, the Eagles
- 39:16Speaker 2: kicked what felt like a winning field goal at the end,
- 39:18Speaker 2: and they kicked the ball short. Jags take it back
- 39:21Speaker 2: enough for their kicker, who has a bomb of a leg,
- 39:25Speaker 2: to you know, to nail a 58-yarder with a backup
- 39:27Speaker 2: long snapper, too. Right.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Defensive tackle.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Yeah. The hero of that Jags game was the holder
- 39:34Speaker 2: for the Jags.
- 39:35Speaker 1: For sure.
- 39:35Speaker 2: That dude made some impressive catches that, like, receivers and
- 39:41Speaker 2: major league shortstops would be impressed by.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Yeah, no, he was nice. And then your Niners, they
- 39:46Speaker 1: went in a thriller. The Niners, I mean, are they
- 39:48Speaker 1: the best team in football right now?
- 39:50Speaker 2: Hard to argue. But the Vikes look pretty good. The
- 39:53Speaker 2: Chiefs look really good.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Vikings' defense looks pretty good.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing is it's dominant. And Kyler's getting
- 39:59Speaker 2: better as everything goes by. So that's, you know, Vikes
- 40:02Speaker 2: look good. And you know what? They'll have a chance
- 40:04Speaker 2: to decide in a few weeks.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Kyler's going to get hurt at least one more time
- 40:07Speaker 1: this year. And I just, you know, their offense to me. Kyler,
- 40:12Speaker 1: no Kyler team is winning. I'm talking about the best
- 40:14Speaker 1: team in the league. I'm talking about teams that can
- 40:15Speaker 1: win a Super Bowl. No Kyler Murray quarterback team is
- 40:18Speaker 1: winning a Super Bowl. I'm sorry. Not happening.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Yeah, probably not.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Their defense is raw, though. They're giving up like 12
- 40:24Speaker 1: points a game, right?
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Brian Flores is just cooking again.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Yeah, bringing all the heat, all the pressure. With the Niners,
- 40:32Speaker 1: it's just all about can they stay healthy, man? I
- 40:34Speaker 1: feel like if they could stay healthy, they're always in
- 40:37Speaker 1: the conversation basically in this entire Shanahan era. And, yeah,
- 40:41Speaker 1: to me right now, I think you've got to say
- 40:42Speaker 1: that they're the best team in the NFL.
- 40:45Speaker 2: They look really good.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Yeah, they look really good.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Mike Evans. Mike Evans is still that dude.
- 40:51Speaker 1: He's still just– Mike Evans, any time touchdown, it's just–
- 40:56Speaker 1: I mean, it's almost a guarantee his entire fucking career.
- 41:00Speaker 1: But can he stay healthy? He's the guy that it
- 41:02Speaker 1: makes me– like, he's the exact type of guy that
- 41:04Speaker 1: it makes me nervous. Him, you got Kittle, you got McCaffrey,
- 41:06Speaker 1: you know, all those guys. You're just like, you know,
- 41:10Speaker 1: can you get them to the end and can you
- 41:12Speaker 1: get them to the playoffs with them healthy? I mean,
- 41:14Speaker 1: who would have thought that the Jets and the Rams–
- 41:17Speaker 1: would have the same record after five weeks?
- 41:20Speaker 2: I don't think anybody, to be honest. And I thought,
- 41:23Speaker 2: I think I had the Jets over five and a
- 41:25Speaker 2: half wins in one of these pick-em pools that I do.
- 41:28Speaker 2: So I figured if they can get, because there are
- 41:30Speaker 2: should wins on the Jets schedule.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Two against Miami.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Yeah, those two for sure. I thought the Titans were
- 41:36Speaker 2: a should win. I thought the Browns going into the
- 41:38Speaker 2: season was a should win. Yeah. I thought if they,
- 41:41Speaker 2: and the Cardinals, I think is a should win.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:43Speaker 2: So that's five right there, in my opinion. If they
- 41:45Speaker 2: could steal one, maybe two against the Pats and the Bills,
- 41:50Speaker 2: or one of those NFC North teams, it can really
- 41:52Speaker 2: get interesting.
- 41:54Speaker 1: We'll steal one against the Bills. The Jets, even when
- 41:56Speaker 1: the Bills are really good, the Jets always find a
- 41:57Speaker 1: way to steal one against the Bills.
- 41:58Speaker 2: The Bills do some things still that concern me. Like,
- 42:02Speaker 2: they're that team who hasn't won anything, but acts like
- 42:05Speaker 2: they've won three Super Bowls. Like, they get off to
- 42:08Speaker 2: these fast cars.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Do you think they act like that, or do you
- 42:10Speaker 1: think the media acts like that?
- 42:12Speaker 2: No, I think the Bills as a team act like that.
- 42:14Speaker 2: You look at what they do on paper. They did
- 42:16Speaker 2: everything they could on Monday night to lose that game.
- 42:20Speaker 2: The Rams just– you know, the Rams can't kick. They
- 42:22Speaker 2: don't believe in kicking, and it came back and bit them.
- 42:25Speaker 2: The Bills just make a lot of fundamental mistakes. They
- 42:28Speaker 2: do a lot of little– like if you want to
- 42:29Speaker 2: go back to bad game management, the most underrated bad
- 42:32Speaker 2: game management of the entire week was the Bills at
- 42:35Speaker 2: the end of the first half on Monday night. They
- 42:37Speaker 2: had a minute 50, three timeouts, and the ball, you know,
- 42:42Speaker 2: like 20-yard line or so. All of a sudden, it's
- 42:45Speaker 2: third down, and they're down to 37 seconds. They have
- 42:47Speaker 2: to use one of the timeouts to get reorganized, and
- 42:50Speaker 2: Josh Allen throws a pick.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Yeah, no. It was bad.
- 42:53Speaker 2: It was bad.
- 42:54Speaker 1: And shout out to my guy, I Hate Sean, on
- 42:57Speaker 1: Nick's Twitter. He's absolutely a heavyweight. He's the one who
- 43:01Speaker 1: organizes the Knicks basketball tournament every summer. and he's a
- 43:09Speaker 1: Knicks fan, he's also a Jets fan, and he's always
- 43:11Speaker 1: talking about the fact that, like, Josh Allen just gets,
- 43:15Speaker 1: he's just like, he gets this silver spoon and gets these,
- 43:19Speaker 1: you know, rose-colored glasses when it comes to the coverage
- 43:22Speaker 1: of him overall because he's, you know, when he's reckless,
- 43:26Speaker 1: it's like, oh, well, I like the arm punt right there.
- 43:30Speaker 1: You know, like, they say, basically, and one of the
- 43:32Speaker 1: points he likes to make, and I agree with, is
- 43:34Speaker 1: that if you just switched You know, Josh Allen and Lamar,
- 43:39Speaker 1: how different is the overall coverage and the consistent glazing
- 43:43Speaker 1: when it comes to those two?
- 43:45Speaker 2: I agree. I think, you know, Allen does some great things.
- 43:49Speaker 1: I wonder why that is.
- 43:53Speaker 2: I think Allen tries to do too much at times
- 43:56Speaker 2: and put the whole thing on his back when he
- 43:58Speaker 2: really doesn't have to. Granted, you know, he was down,
- 44:00Speaker 2: you know, with DJ Moore last week, but he still
- 44:02Speaker 2: had Khalil Shakir available. Still had Keyon Coleman available. Still
- 44:07Speaker 2: had Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, and James Cook. That's the
- 44:10Speaker 2: other issue with the field draft. James Cook puts the
- 44:12Speaker 2: ball in the ground too many times.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Come on, man.
- 44:14Speaker 2: You can't have your starting– he's got four fumbles in
- 44:16Speaker 2: five games.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Four fumbles in five games and like two– And two lost.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I mean, and two huge fumbles in just this past game. Yeah, dude, dude,
- 44:28Speaker 1: he's got to get that figured out.
- 44:29Speaker 2: He needs to go talk to– Joe Brady said as much.
- 44:31Speaker 1: He needs to go talk to Tiki Barber. Tiki Barber
- 44:34Speaker 1: was a guy who was very fumble-prone, and then he
- 44:37Speaker 1: started holding the ball like in a way.
- 44:39Speaker 2: I've never seen before.
- 44:40Speaker 1: But then it went away. He stopped with the fumbles
- 44:43Speaker 1: at that point. Listen, yo, go find Tiki, okay? Go
- 44:48Speaker 1: find him and talk to him because, yeah, hopefully he
- 44:51Speaker 1: doesn't because obviously I want nothing but bad things for
- 44:54Speaker 1: the Bills. I think Josh Allen is a next-level quarterback personally.
- 45:01Speaker 1: I mean– His ability late in games to do it
- 45:05Speaker 1: with his feet, do it with his arm. Does he
- 45:07Speaker 1: throw some picks?
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 45:08Speaker 1: I've always liked the kind of, you know, the gunslinger
- 45:10Speaker 1: quarterback going back to my Brett Favre and, you know,
- 45:13Speaker 1: even like a guy like a Steve Young back in
- 45:15Speaker 1: the day. And I just think Josh Allen's excellent. I
- 45:18Speaker 1: wish he was the Jets quarterback. Does he maybe get
- 45:21Speaker 1: that whole him versus Lamar and the way that they're
- 45:23Speaker 1: covered thing? Of course there's something there. We all know
- 45:25Speaker 1: what time it is. But overall, you know, I got
- 45:30Speaker 1: to say that– He's a damn good quarterback. That's for sure.
- 45:36Speaker 1: And real quick, one thing I wanted to talk about
- 45:39Speaker 1: real quick, I just wanted to make sure we didn't
- 45:41Speaker 1: gloss over. Shout out to Jameis.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Jameis' ball. I fucking love Jameis.
- 45:46Speaker 1: I love Jameis. Jameis is obviously just making us all
- 45:50Speaker 1: wait for the postseason career that is going to be
- 45:52Speaker 1: absolutely amazing. But he goes 33 of 54. Bad weather.
- 45:58Speaker 1: They had him put it up 54 times, 326. Three touchdowns.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Was absolutely cooking in the second half, the fourth quarter,
- 46:05Speaker 1: and overtime. Shout to Jameis.
- 46:08Speaker 2: You know what else is going for them right now?
- 46:10Speaker 2: And him. He has finally gotten on the same page
- 46:13Speaker 2: as Malik Nabors. That's a problem for opposing defenses.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Sometimes you got to just throw it to a guy.
- 46:18Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like Mike Evans. Mike Evans
- 46:20Speaker 1: don't got to be open. Just throw it to him.
- 46:22Speaker 2: He's basically open without being open.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Just throw it to him.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Malik Nabors is the same. Malik Nabors is an absolute dog.
- 46:28Speaker 2: He's nice. It's pretty clear he was the best receiver
- 46:31Speaker 2: in that 2024 draft. So I don't know if you
- 46:33Speaker 2: want to allude to that, speaking of receivers in the
- 46:36Speaker 2: 2024 draft.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Well, so what I wanted to ask, When it comes
- 46:41Speaker 1: to elite neighbors, we're talking about receivers because this is
- 46:45Speaker 1: a big thing that's going on on Twitter right now
- 46:49Speaker 1: as far as who is better overall, neighbors or Garrett Wilson,
- 46:54Speaker 1: and is Garrett Wilson an elite receiver? Oh, man. First
- 47:00Speaker 1: and foremost, this conversation, you have to begin with the
- 47:06Speaker 1: quarterbacks that Garrett Wilson has had. He had one year
- 47:09Speaker 1: of Aaron Rodgers. every other year was Zach Wilson. And
- 47:13Speaker 1: then last year he had Justin Fields and, you know,
- 47:16Speaker 1: whoever else, like, I mean, come on. So he had
- 47:20Speaker 1: some Mike white in there. So I think it's very,
- 47:23Speaker 1: very tough. I don't know if anybody's had it. Jesus boy.
- 47:28Speaker 1: The fact that he even started any games, um, Quinn,
- 47:33Speaker 1: some Brady Quinn, not, not, not Brady Quinn. Yeah, there
- 47:36Speaker 1: we go. There we go. Um, yeah, man. I think
- 47:41Speaker 1: that that's a silly conversation just for that reason. It's
- 47:44Speaker 1: hard to compare. I think that Garrett Wilson shows you
- 47:47Speaker 1: continuously with the catches that he makes and just how
- 47:50Speaker 1: he performs on the field when he does get an
- 47:52Speaker 1: opportunity that he is absolutely an elite receiver in this league. But,
- 47:57Speaker 1: you know, one of those Ohio State receiver you, right?
- 48:00Speaker 2: They are wide receiver you now, unfortunately.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Well, and once again, it seems like they have a
- 48:07Speaker 1: generational wide receiver, but not too many receivers. you know,
- 48:11Speaker 1: years ago, Marvin Harrison jr. I've, I don't know. And
- 48:16Speaker 1: he just got traded over to the Texans. And that's
- 48:19Speaker 1: going to be interesting to see exactly how that ends
- 48:21Speaker 1: up working out. But I don't know if I've ever
- 48:23Speaker 1: seen a guy when he was in college thought that
- 48:28Speaker 1: he was going to be amazing. Not to mention, you know,
- 48:31Speaker 1: your Marvin Harrison son, you're bigger, stronger, faster than him.
- 48:36Speaker 1: And seem like you have the same hands. obviously have
- 48:39Speaker 1: all the tricks of the trade, work ethic, all those things.
- 48:42Speaker 1: And then he comes to the Cardinals and just lays
- 48:45Speaker 1: an egg. So now he gets to go somewhere else.
- 48:48Speaker 1: And either this guy is just legitimately one of the
- 48:51Speaker 1: biggest busts we have ever seen, or we're going to
- 48:56Speaker 1: see him blow up and then we're all going to
- 48:57Speaker 1: wonder what the fuck exactly is the problem in Arizona.
- 49:00Speaker 2: I think it's going to be the latter for sure.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Cause at this point, everything roots back to Michael Bidwell.
- 49:05Speaker 2: You know, it's just, It's ugly over there. He's not great.
- 49:14Speaker 2: There's nobody who really wants to be there. Also, Harrison
- 49:17Speaker 2: gets to reunite with his college quarterback, which always helps.
- 49:20Speaker 2: You know, look what happened to Jamar Chase.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Worked out pretty good for him. Yeah. Yeah.
- 49:26Speaker 1: It should be interesting. But, yeah, man, wild week in
- 49:29Speaker 1: the NFL, as always. I mean, the League of Parity,
- 49:32Speaker 1: it's always interesting, always fun to watch.
- 49:36Speaker 2: I did want to go back to Garrett real quick, though.
- 49:38Speaker 1: What's up with him?
- 49:39Speaker 2: One other– interesting argument for him versus neighbors is we
- 49:43Speaker 2: always talk about what your best ability is Garrett Wilson
- 49:46Speaker 2: hasn't missed many if any games elite neighbors has missed
- 49:50Speaker 2: a lot of games sure sure for me Garrett Wilson
- 49:53Speaker 2: is elite and I don't know if you know what
- 49:56Speaker 2: Kay Adams said earlier today she was asking is he
- 50:00Speaker 2: the most untradeable player in the NFL right now why
- 50:07Speaker 2: She was just basically saying he's just the most consistent player.
- 50:11Speaker 2: He's a walking thousand yards who, no matter the court,
- 50:14Speaker 2: he finds a way, even when it's like Brady Cook
- 50:18Speaker 2: and Tim Boyle, he's still going to some way, somehow
- 50:21Speaker 2: get his. To me, I'm going to say he's not
- 50:23Speaker 2: the most untrainable, but he is elite is what I
- 50:26Speaker 2: will say.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with all of that. I saw people–
- 50:32Speaker 1: You know, when the Jets are 1-3, people are saying, hey,
- 50:34Speaker 1: if these things really go bad and somebody wants to
- 50:35Speaker 1: give you, like, two firsts for Garrett, would you do it?
- 50:38Speaker 1: I didn't want the Jets to trade Sauce or Quinton Williams.
- 50:42Speaker 1: And both of those look like good trades for the
- 50:45Speaker 1: Jets right now and have set us up where we're
- 50:47Speaker 1: going to have at least three, you know, first-round picks,
- 50:51Speaker 1: not only just, you know, two seasons in a row.
- 50:54Speaker 1: We just had three, and we're going to have another
- 50:55Speaker 1: three next year. So... I don't want– I almost never
- 51:01Speaker 1: want to get rid of the young talent for picks.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I don't– I'm lost for too long to be thinking
- 51:08Speaker 1: about the future. I want to win now. But I
- 51:10Speaker 1: do really feel like Garrett is the type of guy,
- 51:13Speaker 1: the cornerstone that you build around. I want us to
- 51:17Speaker 1: be good enough that he's not demanding a trade before
- 51:20Speaker 1: too long. So that, to me, is what we need
- 51:22Speaker 1: to do as opposed to look to get rid of him. But, yeah,
- 51:25Speaker 1: I– like all those, everything that you're saying that Kay
- 51:29Speaker 1: Adams said, I totally agree with a hundred percent. Um,
- 51:32Speaker 1: love Garrett. Well, he does a great interview too. He
- 51:35Speaker 1: talks about all the right things. You could just tell
- 51:37Speaker 1: that he's a baller. He loves football, loves to compete,
- 51:41Speaker 1: loves to win. And, um, it's just all about what
- 51:45Speaker 1: kind of a quarterback play, what kind of, um, what
- 51:47Speaker 1: kind of offensive line play we can put to be
- 51:50Speaker 1: able to give that quarterback some time to get the
- 51:51Speaker 1: ball down the field to him. And he's well on
- 51:53Speaker 1: his way to another thousand yard, uh, you know, All
- 51:56Speaker 1: pro or at least pro bowl season, for sure. For sure.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Anything else about the NFL? Anything else I'm not thinking about?
- 52:04Speaker 2: No, that was pretty much everything we covered. We covered
- 52:06Speaker 2: the entire drunkenness of the league. We covered that game management.
- 52:10Speaker 2: And we gave Jameis his love.
- 52:12Speaker 1: No doubt. So the New York Knicks, they are 0-4
- 52:16Speaker 1: in the preseason. Many people are losing their mind on
- 52:19Speaker 1: Knicks Twitter. Let's switch up the hat. And so you
- 52:29Speaker 1: have us being 0-4. You have the contract disputes that
- 52:35Speaker 1: have been made very public by Karl-Anthony Towns and the
- 52:37Speaker 1: way that he feels. You have the Knicks coming out
- 52:40Speaker 1: and saying that we are not going to negotiate any contracts.
- 52:44Speaker 1: We are going to focus on the season. You have,
- 52:47Speaker 1: is it the second apron and the lack of maneuverability
- 52:51Speaker 1: and flexibility for the team? Or is it James Dolan
- 52:54Speaker 1: being cheap? James Dolan has never been cheap. I don't understand.
- 52:58Speaker 1: I don't understand how many people who are supposed to
- 53:02Speaker 1: be like real pundits, real journalists that talk about this
- 53:06Speaker 1: and don't at all talk about the fact that we
- 53:09Speaker 1: wouldn't have had the ability to say, go get a
- 53:12Speaker 1: Jose Alvarado last year. Everybody keeps saying, well, they have
- 53:14Speaker 1: a championship roster. They should do everything to keep it together.
- 53:17Speaker 1: They should have kept Mitch. They should have done this.
- 53:19Speaker 1: You don't know what's going to happen in the course
- 53:20Speaker 1: of a long season. You don't know if next year
- 53:23Speaker 1: or I'm sorry, in February, you're going to have a
- 53:26Speaker 1: move that you need to make, and now you don't
- 53:29Speaker 1: have that ability because you're in the second apron. You
- 53:32Speaker 1: don't know over the course of the season what is
- 53:34Speaker 1: going to come up as a potential deficiency. You don't
- 53:39Speaker 1: know what's going to happen with injuries. I just don't
- 53:41Speaker 1: think that people are putting enough credence and understanding and
- 53:45Speaker 1: enough of a a focus on what the second apron
- 53:50Speaker 1: does to a team as far as their ability to
- 53:53Speaker 1: be flexible. So I think that's a bigger factor than
- 53:55Speaker 1: the money. I do think that Dolan figure, Dolan doesn't
- 54:00Speaker 1: like the fact that some of that money, if he
- 54:03Speaker 1: has to pay in luxury tax, goes to other teams.
- 54:07Speaker 1: These other teams that don't have the fan base, they're
- 54:10Speaker 1: not in a city like the Knicks are. Some of
- 54:14Speaker 1: these owners don't necessarily own the arena they play in
- 54:16Speaker 1: like dolan does they don't have the local tv contracts
- 54:21Speaker 1: which dolan and the knicks are getting fucked on that
- 54:23Speaker 1: because now with all these games not being on msg
- 54:28Speaker 1: because they're on one of the you know 17 different
- 54:30Speaker 1: networks that you have to fucking be inspector gadget to
- 54:34Speaker 1: find out where the game is um every single night
- 54:37Speaker 1: and so that's less games on local msg which obviously
- 54:41Speaker 1: you know knicks fans we know show up bigger and
- 54:45Speaker 1: better than any other fan base That's not just in
- 54:47Speaker 1: opposing arenas. That's also when it comes to watching and
- 54:51Speaker 1: being dialed into the team. So therefore, I can totally
- 54:55Speaker 1: understand why Dolan doesn't want to go deep into the
- 54:58Speaker 1: tax and give all his money to these other owners.
- 55:01Speaker 1: You know, they're looking at him at the meeting like, hey, Jimmy,
- 55:04Speaker 1: how you doing? Halfway fucking smirked all the time. And
- 55:07Speaker 1: he's probably annoying. He's probably very annoyed by them. And
- 55:12Speaker 1: some people are kind of making it where it's like
- 55:14Speaker 1: him versus Kat. And I don't really think that's what
- 55:17Speaker 1: it is. I think Cat is one thing that people
- 55:21Speaker 1: got to also remember. Cat is the vice president of
- 55:23Speaker 1: the players union. So all this take a whole lot
- 55:26Speaker 1: less money type shit. When you vice president of the
- 55:29Speaker 1: players union, there's only so much you're going to do
- 55:31Speaker 1: something like that. Because to you, it is everybody's job
- 55:36Speaker 1: to make as much money as possible. That trickles down
- 55:41Speaker 1: and that makes it better for everybody. Now, You have
- 55:44Speaker 1: the owners taking the second apron and treating it like
- 55:48Speaker 1: it's a hard cap. Everybody keeps acting like, oh, you know,
- 55:53Speaker 1: the Knicks refuse to do it and Dolan's so cheap.
- 55:55Speaker 1: Nobody wants to be in the second apron. And when
- 55:58Speaker 1: teams do get into the second apron, they usually get
- 55:59Speaker 1: out of it fairly quickly. And we've seen championship teams
- 56:02Speaker 1: here recently get blown up trying to avoid being in
- 56:06Speaker 1: or staying in the second apron. Denver, the Celtics. OKC
- 56:13Speaker 1: is about to have some real tough decisions. The Spurs
- 56:17Speaker 1: at some point will have some very tough decisions.
- 56:19Speaker 2: OKC has already made some tough decisions. They actually just
- 56:21Speaker 2: should be. And that second apron is basically like operating
- 56:25Speaker 2: out of a straightjacket. I know we talked about it earlier,
- 56:27Speaker 2: but yeah, there's a lot of things that you can't do.
- 56:31Speaker 2: You can't combine multiple players in a trade. You can't
- 56:33Speaker 2: do a two for one trade basically. So you can't trade,
- 56:36Speaker 2: you know, two, you know, random guys to get one
- 56:39Speaker 2: star or You can't take more salary back in a transaction.
- 56:43Speaker 2: You can't use any of those trade exceptions.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Or cash.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Yeah, nothing. Like there's literally, that second apron is like
- 56:51Speaker 2: literally a hard cap.
- 56:52Speaker 1: So I'm saying, man, and you know, you got to listen.
- 56:56Speaker 1: I trust Leon. I don't even look at the roster
- 56:59Speaker 1: right now and say, okay, we're set. I know that
- 57:02Speaker 1: come February, we're going to get set. We're going to
- 57:04Speaker 1: get right. And we're going to be ready to, you know,
- 57:05Speaker 1: take another title run. And I'm not too worried about
- 57:08Speaker 1: preseason games. Look, I would like the Knicks to look
- 57:10Speaker 1: a little bit better. I have some questions. Drummond has
- 57:14Speaker 1: looked very good. Wiseman, I think, should get that last
- 57:18Speaker 1: roster spot. Though, I was listening to Ian Begley today,
- 57:20Speaker 1: which you know, Ian Begley is about as tapped in
- 57:25Speaker 1: when it comes to what's going on in New York
- 57:28Speaker 1: him and CP to franchise are the two guys who
- 57:33Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, okay. If they say this, then there's some,
- 57:37Speaker 1: this shit is real. And Begley says he feels like Brown, um,
- 57:41Speaker 1: is going to end up on the roster somehow. Bruce Brown.
- 57:43Speaker 1: They say that his versatility, his veteran leadership, um, and
- 57:46Speaker 1: the different things that he can do off the bench,
- 57:48Speaker 1: they feel like, uh, you know, could be something that
- 57:50Speaker 1: are real is really important to this team. And then
- 57:52Speaker 1: I feel like we have to have a third center.
- 57:54Speaker 1: So that's either you banks or it's, um, Wiseman, and
- 57:58Speaker 1: I think that's Wiseman so far. We've seen Wiseman show
- 58:02Speaker 1: the potential. If you get Wiseman to be 75% of
- 58:06Speaker 1: what his potential is, that's a huge win. And the
- 58:14Speaker 1: Knicks are at a point where they can gamble at
- 58:18Speaker 1: the end of the roster because they feel really good
- 58:20Speaker 1: about the beginning of the roster, about the starters and
- 58:24Speaker 1: that first eight to nine to ten players. So you
- 58:27Speaker 1: can gamble. And I think that Wiseman is a good
- 58:29Speaker 1: guy to take a gamble on. But Begley says that
- 58:34Speaker 1: Bruce Brown. So I think Dottie is about to hear.
- 58:37Speaker 1: I think we find a way to get rid of Dottie. Dottie,
- 58:38Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but he just we've we've given him, you know,
- 58:41Speaker 1: plenty of time, plenty of runway. And I just haven't
- 58:44Speaker 1: seen it from Dottie. And, you know, I still think
- 58:47Speaker 1: that Deuce is a guy who can contribute. But I
- 58:50Speaker 1: tell you, when Deuce's jump shot ain't on. The rest
- 58:55Speaker 1: of his game, leave something to be. It's just, yo, man. Again,
- 59:02Speaker 1: he still can't dribble. Yesterday, at one point, he tried
- 59:05Speaker 1: to do some shit where he put the ball between
- 59:06Speaker 1: his legs and behind his back and did some shit.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Me and my dad were texting each other. We were
- 59:09Speaker 1: laughing because it was like, he had to pick up
- 59:10Speaker 1: the ball because he's about to lose that shit he's
- 59:12Speaker 1: gotten the ball just straight up he's gotten his pocket
- 59:15Speaker 1: picked multiple times he's dribbled off his foot out of
- 59:17Speaker 1: bounds multiple times in just this preseason and Deuce when
- 59:22Speaker 1: he's hot man he is a hell of a fucking
- 59:25Speaker 1: shooter But I'm telling you, more and more defenders, you
- 59:27Speaker 1: can see it already in this preseason, they're just up
- 59:29Speaker 1: in his chest. Like, make a jump shot. And he
- 59:32Speaker 1: gets the ball, and there's a couple times, especially in
- 59:34Speaker 1: last night's games where none of the starters played, none
- 59:36Speaker 1: of the starters or Shamit played, and so Deuce got
- 59:39Speaker 1: extended minutes. And what you saw from Deuce was when
- 59:42Speaker 1: he was giving the ball late in the shot clock
- 59:44Speaker 1: and a guy was on him, he's just trying to
- 59:46Speaker 1: do something to give a little hesitation and get into
- 59:48Speaker 1: a jump shot. He's got that high arc, and he
- 59:50Speaker 1: gets a lot of lifts, so he's able to get
- 59:52Speaker 1: it off. And when he's got a guy right up
- 59:53Speaker 1: on him, that shit is missing. You know, Deuce, I
- 59:59Speaker 1: just can't figure out why this guy can't work on
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: his handle. I see OG as accomplished as he is.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: And I feel like OG's handle looks a little bit tighter,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: which I think is the next level for him to take.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: A little bit more handle, a little bit more mid-range
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: game to go with, you know, being just a knockdown
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: three-point shooter and being fantastic going to the basket. And
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: that handle will help him be able to go to
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: the basket more. That's another thing with Deuce is that
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Deuce actually has a little bit of spring. I was
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: going at it back and forth with somebody on X
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the other day. They were talking about, you know, because
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Peyton Pritchard got his extension there. Like, Deuce has to
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: be looking at this like, I want similar money. Pritchard
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: is so much better than Deuce. He's a way better
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: basketball player. And a lot of it starts with the
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: fact that he has a handle. He can dribble. Deuce
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: can't dribble. So with the fact that Deuce can't dribble, also,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: he can't get to the basket. So he's literally a
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: one-trick pony. Defensively, he plays hard. He used to be
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: more of a nuisance and a menace than he is
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: right now. And he is not able. We saw it
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: last year against CJ McCollum. No matter how hard he plays,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: he's six foot one, six foot two. Unless he's playing
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: against an opposing point guard, any shooting guard in the
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: league is getting him to a spot, raising up and
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: getting the shot that he wants. So Deuce needs to
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: step it up for sure. Tyler Kolick, man. I'm still
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: waiting for Kolick to do a little something more. We
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: know he's a great passer, a great distributor. There's times
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: where he's looked like he's offensively capable. He's not aggressive enough,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: in my opinion, as far as getting in there, shooting
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: that little floater, getting all the way to the rim.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: If he did that at a higher clip, he would
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: actually be able to facilitate more. Because defenders that play
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: against him, once he drives, they're playing him to pass.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Everybody knows this guy led the nation in assists his
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: senior year. He's a guy that we gotta, you know,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: make sure that we're cutting off passing lanes, getting in
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: passing lanes, and they're backing off of him. He needs
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: to be more aggressive. Defensively, he's somewhat limited. He's not horrible.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: He's somewhat limited. But he's a guy... Kolek should just
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: be I mean, he's got Brunson right there. You got it. Lefty,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: not super athletic. Brunson is obviously much more of a
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: score-first player than Kolick is, but he should be doing
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: all the footwork, you know, off-two-feet drills that Brunson is doing,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: and he really has to improve his all the way
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: to the basket, his right hand, because he's left-handed, and
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: his floater game. He's got to do it. But, you know, hey,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: next Tuesday we tip off It's Knicks versus Bron Bron
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: and the Bronettes from Philadelphia. And the Knicks will be
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: getting their rings. The Knicks will be raising a banner.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I can't wait. And then we get started for real.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I just need the Knicks healthy and one of the
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: top three seeds, top four seeds going into the playoffs. Now,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: if they're playing like shit, especially if they're playing to
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: a fourth seed, then I'll be a little bit annoyed already. Already?
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: There's people talking about the starting lineup again. Statistically, it's
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: not very good. And if you look at last year's
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: playoff run, what are we doing? We're always coming from behind.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: But after you win a chip, it's kind of hard to, like,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: you know, have any issues with the starting lineup. But
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: it's just, it's not. Statistically, the statistics are so strong
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: that it's hard at this point to deny what these
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: metrics say over a huge, huge sample size. So that'll
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: be a storyline for sure. Third center, Mitchell Robinson, what
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: he's doing in Boston will be a storyline. There's, of course,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: the obligatory Mitch during the summer, handling the ball and
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: hitting jump shots. I saw a lot of Boston fans
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: who were excited and be like, yo, is he unlocked?
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: And it's like, dude, that video comes out every summer.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: That's like the Ben Simmons hitting jump shots video. That
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: shit comes out every single summer. Even though I've heard
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: some shit that Ben Simmons is looking pretty good out
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: there in Sacramento. Shout out to Ben Simmons, man. Look,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I'm not a Ben Simmons hater. I think that what
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: he needs to do more than anything else is say,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: fuck everybody else, fuck what everybody else wants, and just
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: be like, yo, I'm just going to be a star
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: doing what I do well. Fuck jump shots. Play great defense, rebound,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: run the floor. With him, if he can stay healthy,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: he's an effective player. Don't ask too much of him.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Don't ask him to take shots, be willing to take
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: shots late in the game. No, no, that's not what
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: he does. That's an interesting subplot to me this year
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: is what happens with Ben Simmons. I think the Celtics
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: out east are going to be good. I think that
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: the Knicks' biggest threat in the east is Toronto. Healthy
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Toronto with Kawhi. Scotty Barnes looked nice in that preseason
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: game yesterday. You can already see that the Knicks jersey
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: is already the heaviest jersey to wear in the league
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: with the amount of scrutiny that you get. and with
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: the amount of effort that you get from opposing players
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: on a nightly basis, whether you're home or away, that
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: shit is only going to get worse. I saw Ant
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: come out like, and Ant, fuck, Ant looked good. You know,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Minnesota's going to be a problem. I just, when it
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: comes to big moments, end of game, playoffs, let alone finals,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: And one of the main ball handlers and people that's
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: making decisions is LaMelo Ball. I got to see it.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: I got to see it go right before I'm willing
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: to say. But I tell you, man, they fucking look good.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: I know it's a preseason game. Knicks played a whole
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: lot of their starters early. Ant looked fantastic. He looked unstoppable. Mid-range,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: three ball, to the rim, defense. They look fucking good.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: And I think they could be a problem. And I mean,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: in like Scottie Barnes, Jalen Brown, all these guys look
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: like they were, you know, they know who the Knicks are.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: They know who the champs are. So Knicks got to
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: be ready for that all season long. Your boy just
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: got a new lawn flag delivered. So I had a
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: New York Knicks lawn flag. I had a Mets one
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: as well that didn't go up at all this season.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: And because the Knicks one stayed up and the Mets
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: definitely didn't deserve to be displayed. on the front lawn
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: this year. But the Knicks flag stayed up, and this
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Arizona heat, by the time it went down, it was tattered.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: It was messed up. I'll put a before and after,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: the old one and the new one. I'll put a
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: picture up tomorrow on my socials. But it was old
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: and baby blue and ripped up and tattered and whatnot.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: And my wife was like, what are we doing? We
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: have to get a new flag. And I was like,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: that's a championship flag. We want to chip with that flag.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: So that flag is staying up until next season. And
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: then I just ordered a new flag on one side.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: It's like blue Knicks logo, you know, says 25, 26 champions.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Other side is orange with like the Knicks circular old
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: school logo says, you know, 25, 26 champions on there.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: And we put that up yesterday and you know, it
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: looks great. It looks fantastic out there. It's blowing in
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: the wind. And so it's still, still fucking good to
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: be the champs, man. It's still good to be the champs. I'm,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: I'm not coming off of that at least till the
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: end of the season. And no matter what, it will always, always,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: always be something that is so dear to my heart. Me,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: my father, and my son together watching the Knicks, you know,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: and the drought after 53 years. That shit, it'll never
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: get old. It'll be something that I cherish for the
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: absolute rest of my life. We talked about the NFL.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: MLB playoffs, what's the score right now with 4-2 Brewers?
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Yeah, we missed a pretty big eventful seventh inning here.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: The Brewers went back-to-back top of the seventh. Jake Bowers
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: hit a dong to give the Brewers 3-2 lead. Garrett
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Mitchell chased it with another home run. So, yeah, 4-2
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: Milwaukee right now, bottom of the seventh.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Yo, man. Has Otani done anything?
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: He did hit a single earlier.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah, been a lot of talk about him and,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: you know, his lack of production this postseason, whether or
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: not he's injured. And the Brewers bullpen is just so
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: fucking good. And, you know, they right now are in
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: a position to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: NLCS against the, you know, the highly touted and huge
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: payrolled Los Angeles Dodgers. And I hope that what this
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: means is that David Stearns, it just takes some time
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: for him to build like a true winner because he
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: was the architect. of that Brewers team, though he hasn't
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: been there the last two seasons. But a lot of
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: those guys are his doing and him bringing a lot
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: of those players in. But the Brewers, man, they just,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: to me, this is the issue that the Yankees have.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: And it is something that, you know, I've been screaming
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: going back to the 2015 World Series that the Mets
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: lost to the Kansas City Royals. When it comes to
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: the playoffs, it's about pitching. It's about contact. I know
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: everybody wants to hit home runs. And, you know, obviously
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: everybody's talking about launch angle and this and that. And,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: you know, you got a whole bunch. You got guys
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: hitting in the low 200s that are starters in the
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: major leagues, which is bullshit in my opinion. It's a
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: shittier game to watch. And I think that over the years,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: you keep seeing over and over again that the teams
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: that end up winning it are the teams that put
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: the ball in play, they play strong defense, and they pitch.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Exactly. If you go back to that Royals team, so
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: I'm going to throw in a little Giants reference here.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Like the Brewers, this iteration of the back end of
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: the Brewers' bullpen is the best bullpen that I've seen
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: since the Dynasty Giants. But the difference between those Giants
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: teams and those Royals, both those teams put the ball
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: in play. And when they played a series against each other,
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: it was great baseball. You know, because there wasn't a
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: whole lot of striking out. It was a lot of
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: ball in play and great pitching and great defense. Those
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: are the teams that win in the playoffs. If you
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: look at the Yankees, the Yankees' defense was laughable. Like,
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: it was god-awful. I mean, and it's just the same old,
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: you know, excuses with them over and over. I think
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: personally they're a soft team.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: How do you feel about Aaron Boone?
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: I think he's a very overrated manager.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: He sucks.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: I don't think he's very good at all. Granted, you know,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: missing Aaron Judge doesn't help.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: No doubt. No doubt. But Aaron Judge didn't have you
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: make three errors in, you know, the first inning. And
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: at the end of the day– They don't do necessary things. Yeah, yeah. Listen,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: I know a lot of my, almost all my friends
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: who are Yankee fans, they hate Aaron Boone. I just
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: think he sounds like a stooge always whenever I hear
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: him talk. That whole soundbite, my guys are savages in
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: the box. I thought that shit was corny as fuck.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: He's whiny.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and I just, you know, it seems to me
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: like he is a puppet and he doesn't seem like
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: he has a lot of fire. He doesn't seem like
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: he's a guy who's out there making decisions depending on
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: his overall feel of the game. And in baseball, I
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: need a guy who is going to use the analytics
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: to influence decisions, but at the end of the day,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: choose his gut. That's my skip.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: You might not live and die by him. I mean,
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: if you look at Kevin Cash in Tampa, remember five
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: years ago during that shortened World Series when he just
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: took out Blake Snell after 70 pitches and he was dealing? Yeah. Like, yeah,
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: we can't see stuff like that.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Nah, nah. I need a little bit of nuance when
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: it comes to how my manager makes decisions, for sure.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: But yeah, that Brewers bullpen, they continue to be dominant.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: And then you got Guardians-Rays. That series is all tied
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: up one-to-one. And the other thing is that you have
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: owners out here talking about how we need a salary
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: cap for things to be competitive. And three out of
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: the four teams are teams that historically don't spend money.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Exactly. So, um, this is, uh, this is going to
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: be a tough one for the, we, uh, you got
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: anything to pour out for the poverty franchises on this one?
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Yeah, man. Uh, you know, at the end of the day,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: you got to take a step back and you got
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: to say, it really is just about good management. Um,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: you know, a good front office that, that, that not
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: only develops a, a, an entire system farm system that is,
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: but also understands the right type of team construction and
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: the right type of players to make you successful in October.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: The Brewers analytics department, like their roster of like front
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: office people is crazy. It's like more than their actual,
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure it's like on par with their 40
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: man player roster. So they have a lot of things
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: going on at all levels of their system. Also, I
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: want to shout out this girl went to college with
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Ginger Poulsen. She's a scout for the Brewers and yeah, crazy, right?
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: they're just doing, they're doing it really well over there.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: They know that they're not gonna spend money. They draft
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: and develop insanely well. They make these trades. Like they
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: ended up with Kyle Harrison this year from the Red Sox.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: They got a couple other guys in that deal too.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: David Hamilton. They've found ways to maximize those guys. Although
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: Harrison fell off a cliff, but early in the year,
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: he looked Cy Young good. Hey, look, we maximize it.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: It's, it's all about getting the most out of players.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: And clearly there's some organizations that, are very good at that,
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: and some are not. The Mets, Freddy Peralta. Hey, how
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: did he look? Now he's throwing seven innings of brilliant
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: ball for the Rays in the ALCS.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Fun fact, that was the first time he ever completed
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: six innings in a playoff game last night.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Yeah, he pretty much is a five-inning pitcher. When the
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Mets first got him, and I was really excited, and
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: then I went and I looked at his stats, a
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: lot of five innings, a lot of five innings, five innings.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: If he goes six, you feel good. But no, in
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: the playoffs, when it's time to step up, he throws
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: mostly fastballs. He has a fantastic outing and gets his
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: team a win. And you have to look at that
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: if you're the Mets and say, what is it about
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: us that we weren't able to get that out of him?
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Beyond the fact that we fucking stupidly punted on a
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: generational all-time Met, then the guys that we do bring in,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: they don't perform up to what they typically have before.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: So is that a coincidence or is that a organizational
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: issue which again we look how well the brewers are
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: doing and our guy is the guy who who built
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: that oh are we not building a similar analytics team
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: you would think especially with uh an owner who's a
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: hedge fund guy you would think analytics would be would
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: it be everything so far it ain't meant shit when
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: it comes to the new york.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: Mats There's also just certain things that analytics can't measure.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: Analytics can't measure how much somebody means to a clubhouse.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: And clearly, I mean, it goes pretty obviously here that
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: David Stearns did not measure how much Pete Alonzo meant
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: to the Mets clubhouse.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Clubhouse and fan base.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: Exactly. I mean, it's just, it's one of the more
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: egregious miscalculations you'll ever find. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: You know, you know, Stearns had some interesting stuff to
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: say in his, his final press conference of the year.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Just as far as, like, you know, both, ah, well,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: I kind of missed the boat on, you know, on
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Pete as far as, like, obviously he's had a great
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: year and everything. But then it also says, like, he
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: made a comment about how, you know, we had no,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: we didn't have a column in our chart for, you know, fan.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: I don't even remember what the exact was. I talked
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: about it the other day. I brought it up. But
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: I just, I don't know. I see the Brewers and
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: I think to myself, all right, well, maybe hopefully this
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: guy Stearns is laying on the groundwork for a sustainable winner.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: But I'll never forgive him for Pete Alonso.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Never.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: So for me, it's always going to be Fire Stearns. Yo, Rangers. Igor,
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: out for the year.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: Brutal loss.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: Brutal loss.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: Very hot start.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Very hot start, though, for the Rangers.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: My guy Albert Smith, the rookie defenseman, he was the
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: guy I personally wanted, who I thought the Sharks could
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: realistically get in the draft. But then we ended up
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: getting the number two pick by the grace of God.
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: So we ended up with Ivar Stenberg, which, you know,
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: I'll take that. But Smith is a stud. When the
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: Rangers ended up with him, I was really fired up
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: for that. He looked great in the Olympics as an
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: 18-year-old against Pretty good NHLers.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Listen, I have not gotten fully committed to the Rangers
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: just yet. I need a little bit more from them.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I need a little bit more from them. I need
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: a little bit more. You know, my dance card is
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: quite full. But if the Rangers are in the playoffs,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: I'm going to watch every single minute. But, you know,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: we get midway through the season. If we're still looking
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: like a decent, you know, upstart team, I'll start watching
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: more for sure. They'll get the second screen. They'll get
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: the second screen. Probably not top screen because there's some
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: nicks on, but they'll get to second screen. And, you know,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: it just sucks what happened with Igor, man. Horrible injury,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: gross-looking injury, and, you know.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: We were at the wedding when we found out, but
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: neither of us watched the video. Yeah, yeah. Remember, we
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: were going to the bar to get beers when it happened.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: You just can't replace a guy like that. He's one
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: of the top three goalies in hockey.
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I know, and he's having a good year. He's scoring
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: a couple goals and shit.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Using the Art Ross bags. That's crazy.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: Tough one, tough one. Yo, did you play the game
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: Street Fighter as a kid at all?
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: A little bit, but not much.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: So I was a big Street Fighter guy. I was
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: a Street Fighter over Mortal Kombat guy from the time
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: I was young. Street Fighter II Turbo on the Super
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: Nintendo was my shit. You know, I'll still whoop up
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: somebody if you give me an arcade. A little Marvel vs.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: Capcom or any other Street Fighters. And they're coming out
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: with a movie called weekend you got 50 cent in
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: it my man Andrew Schultz who's a very funny stand-up
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: comedian that I've been following for quite some time I
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: watch the podcast every week so I've been seeing him
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: you know through the whole process of making this movie
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: and now promoting this movie you got the guy from
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Warrior playing Ryu. You got Cody Rhodes is in there
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: playing Guile. And then you got Jason Momoa playing Blanca.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: And what's the young lady's name that plays Chun-Li? I'm
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: about to look that up. Shout to her for really
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: embracing the role. There's this whole thing where she measured,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: and this is from her. So I'm not objectifying this woman.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: This is what she said. She kept, you know, really,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: if you know the overall rendering of Chun-Li, she's got
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: very large thighs. And the young lady who's playing her
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: really embraced that, said that she was measuring her thighs,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: measured them from beginning to end of the movie, and
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: they were getting bigger. Um, and she just like, I mean,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: as far as like just the way that she, you know,
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: just the aesthetics, she looks exactly like her, uh, Kalina Liang. Um, yeah,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: Kalina Liang is her name. And, um, I'm excited for
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: this movie, man. I don't, you know, I don't go
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: see too many movies in theaters. I think I'm gonna
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: have to go check this one out in theaters. I'm
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: gonna have to go check it out, man. Cause, uh,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: it's a video. It was like literally my favorite fighting game.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: One of my favorite video games of all time as
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: a kid. And, um, I just think that the cast
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: is going to be good. and the amount of effort
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: that they're putting into promoting it, I know that they
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: think that it's got a chance to really do something.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: So I'm interested in Street Fighter. Baum, anything else before
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: we get up out of here?
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: I didn't have anything else on new topics. There were
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: a couple things I wanted to go back to on
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: the Knicks, actually, when it comes to Deuce McBride and
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: contract extensions. Brandon Pachemski's recent extension a couple days ago
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: also is one that McBride could look at as a
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: six-man type of thing.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: No, no, no. Potts is so much better than McBride.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: He's not that good, man.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: I'm not even saying he's good. He's so much better
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: than Deuce. Like, if Deuce thinks he's going to get
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: anywhere close to that money, he's not. I mean, the
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: Knicks simply can't give it to him. They just can't.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: I don't disagree with that. Nor should they. Do you
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: see what Christoph Porzingis had to say about us all today?
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: Oh no, I know that he's out again and it's
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: like some sort of mystery illness.
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: It's the, uh, the illness he's been probably dealing with
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: the last year, the POTS, uh, the autoimmune one, uh,
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: that kind of zaps you and knocks you out. So
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: he basically, you know, made a public, the Warriors publicly
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: stated today that he's out. Definitely. He's going to be
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: with the team, yada, yada, yada. Like a couple of
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: days ago came out, but he didn't know where he was. Um,
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: but no, they, he's back with it. They said he's
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: back with the team. He met with the trainer and
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: the GM, all that. Um, So Porzingis tweeted out, you know,
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: thank you for all the wishes. I'm just doing better.
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: He concludes his tweet with, no, I don't have HIV
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: or AIDS.
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: Yo, I've heard people be like, yo, what the fuck
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: does he have going on? What does he have? I've
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: heard people say shit like that.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: Yeah, well, he tweeted out today that he does not
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: have that. I mean, honestly, the one thing it kind
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: of reminded me of This is like the written version
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: of when Mike Piazza had that one press conference back
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: in the day of when he had to tell the
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: New York media about his status on certain things.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Yeah, he had to tell everybody he wasn't gay. That
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: rumor was big in New York for a long time. Yeah,
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: that rumor was big. That was one of those that
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: was always out there and was always spoken about. But
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: who fucking knows? I don't care. But yeah, man. Porzingis, look.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: I think that a healthy Porzingis totally changes the outlook
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: for that Warriors team.
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: You know, if you look at their roster, like the
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: back of their roster is actually pretty decent. It's just,
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: can they keep the top of the roster in one piece?
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: That's the biggest thing. Steph's not going to play every game.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: It's just a sad reality of life. But they have
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: a guy who could spell him for a game every
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: now and then at Brandon Williams. And, you know, Pachemski,
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: if he's going to get $ 110 million, they got to
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: believe he can spell him for a couple games too
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: here and there. you know, dream on Horford. Can they
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: get Jimmy back at a reasonable time and just keep
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: it together? Just keep it together for a few months
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: while he gets healthy. The kid Lenda Borg. I love
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: this kid. I think he's the perfect player for that. Yeah.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: This group. Yeah. Is he a number one? Is he
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: going to ever be a number one? Probably not. He
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: can be a number two or number three on a
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: championship team.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: Number three. I mean, but eight, I think he's a
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: solid player, and like you said, I think he's a
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: good fit. He gives them some length, some athleticism, and
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: he looks like he's going to be able to give
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: them some defense as well. And I just, you know,
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: I like his game. I think that the Warriors are
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: an interesting one because I think that they could be
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: anywhere from like a fourth seed to a tenth seed,
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: and I wouldn't be surprised anywhere in between. And I
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: like the fact that Steph is kind of like being
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: a little bit indignant, like... playing making the playoffs that's
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: what we are like he almost has to come in
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: with that type of energy for not just himself but
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: for the entire team because obviously they're going to take
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: on his personality to a certain extent with him being
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: you know the the not just the best player on
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: the team but like one of the most influential and
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: best players if in an of an era in the
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: entire nba so i think.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: It's good yeah the other thing is they're going to
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: change a little bit stylistically too they finally realized okay
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: we can't just run and gun up a floor and
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: You know, they're going to play more five out this year.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: They're not built like that.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: No, they aren't. And it's a shame that it took
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: three years to realize it, but I'm very curious to see,
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: you know, how this new five out plays. Can they
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: cut down the turnovers? They've been one of the worst
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: turnover teams in the league for a couple of years now.
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: You can't get by with that anymore with who they are.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: You have to, you have to win in the margins.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: And that's what is being stressed coming out of camp.
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: So we'll see how that goes.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, man. Be interesting. NFL week six. We got also
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: the NBA opening up next week. So next week's show
