- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to this episode of the Daily Writer Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Have you ever noticed that writers like to talk about the things they're working on?
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: It's kind of a strange habit, isn't it?
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's because we like to get feedback on our current work in progress, which of course is totally fine.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Most of the time it seems like we talk about our current writing a lot because we lack confidence and we want assurance from other people that we're going the right direction or that we actually do have talent after all.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: But here's some unconventional wisdom from Mario Puzzo, the author of the Godfather novel upon which the movie was based.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: He said this never talk about what you are going to do until after you have written it.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: This advice goes completely against our impulse as writers in this age of social media where everybody talks about everything all the time.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: His words are really wise though.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: There's something to be said about keeping a lid on things until they're done.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So give this a try with your current project.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: How long can you keep it a secret?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Imagine how great it would feel to announce to the world when it's done, rather than constantly talking about it and trying to get other people's approval.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Wouldn't that feel amazing?
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: How long can you keep your current writing project a secret?
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
