- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Laura. If I had to pick a yes or
- 0:04Speaker 1: no for whether or not I'm a hoarder, I would
- 0:10Speaker 1: say no.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I'm John. I'm Laura's boyfriend.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I would be more than happy to give him the queen,
- 0:18Speaker 1: the perfect life he wants, but he doesn't compromise. I
- 0:22Speaker 1: feel like he doesn't love me and wants to control me.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Five plates here and only three of us usually eat here.
- 0:31Speaker 4: You're missing my point.
- 0:32Speaker 2: You're missing my point. Do you even remember what I said? Yes,
- 0:35Speaker 2: and I know that a.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Lot of it is bulls * * t. It could
- 0:38Speaker 3: be anybody.
- 0:39Speaker 1: But nobody, not one person who bitches and complains about
- 0:42Speaker 1: the kitchen.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Being a mess cleans it ever.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Insist on yelling louder than the other person and that
- 0:48Speaker 2: makes you right. And guess what?
- 0:49Speaker 4: It doesn't. This episode of Hoarders is a great example
- 0:55Speaker 4: of of why you do not listen to what people say,
- 0:58Speaker 4: but instead you watch what they do. Actions speak far
- 1:02Speaker 4: louder than words. That being said, there are certain actions
- 1:06Speaker 4: you should look for, and then there are certain actions
- 1:08Speaker 4: that people do externally that reveal who they are on
- 1:11Speaker 4: the inside. One of the major things to look for
- 1:15Speaker 4: is how clean a person is and how well they
- 1:17Speaker 4: maintain their personal items. People who are not willing to
- 1:21Speaker 4: maintain their stuff are telling you that they aren't willing
- 1:24Speaker 4: to maintain themselves. So for example, if you date a
- 1:27Speaker 4: girl who treats her car like crap, then she is
- 1:30Speaker 4: telling you how poorly she's going to treat you as
- 1:33Speaker 4: soon as she gets comfortable. In the case of our
- 1:36Speaker 4: hoarder Laura, she is tapping into something even greater when
- 1:40Speaker 4: she says things like this.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I'm tired of getting rid of stuff that means something
- 1:44Speaker 3: to me just because I live in his house.
- 1:47Speaker 5: I'm so done.
- 1:50Speaker 4: What is she saying here? She is saying that the
- 1:52Speaker 4: junk is more important than the guy who she lives
- 1:55Speaker 4: with for free. Junk is more important than the father
- 1:59Speaker 4: of her daughter. Junk is more important than her children.
- 2:03Speaker 4: This may sound terrible, but yes, quite a number of
- 2:06Speaker 4: people value their crap more than they do their own family.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Yet they wonder why all of their relationships are terrible.
- 2:13Speaker 4: What this also says, and this is the case with
- 2:16Speaker 4: all hoarders, is that Laura doesn't have a sense of
- 2:19Speaker 4: what's valuable and what's not. The fact is that the
- 2:23Speaker 4: more stuff you buy, the less valuable your other stuff becomes.
- 2:27Speaker 4: If she can't prioritize what's important with physical objects, then
- 2:31Speaker 4: she won't be able to do it with anything else.
- 2:34Speaker 4: None of this stuff is valuable. She is literally collecting junk.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I'm Angelina, and Laura is my mom. In the house,
- 2:41Speaker 3: there's Tupperware, there's paperwork, there's clothes. It's like a giant mess.
- 2:49Speaker 4: I'm Jessie, and I'm Laura's stepdaughter.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Like there's clothes everywhere. The dining room, clothes, the kitchen,
- 2:57Speaker 2: even more clothes.
- 2:58Speaker 4: And you can barely walk through the hallway because there's
- 3:00Speaker 4: so much random stuff. This is why cleaning is one
- 3:04Speaker 4: of the first recommended steps to self-recovery. It teaches you
- 3:08Speaker 4: complex lessons by doing something simple. When you clean, you
- 3:12Speaker 4: learn self-maintenance and how to prioritize items that are important.
- 3:16Speaker 4: That is absolutely key if you want to be happy.
- 3:20Speaker 4: A few high-value items are worth way more than a
- 3:23Speaker 4: bunch of low-value junk. However, Laura doesn't want to deal
- 3:26Speaker 4: with any of that, but she still wants to look
- 3:28Speaker 4: like a good person. So the way she solves that
- 3:31Speaker 4: problem is to take the focus off of herself by
- 3:35Speaker 4: convincing outsiders that she isn't the evil one. Her boyfriend is.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I kind of covered the living room to keep people out.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Drunk people?
- 3:44Speaker 2: Keeping them out.
- 3:45Speaker 1: John, whoever was.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Here to drink with him. and then I put this
- 3:49Speaker 3: here because I got tired of people going through.
- 3:51Speaker 1: The stuff that's in there.
- 3:52Speaker 3: So I just put stuff in front of it because
- 3:55Speaker 3: then they can't.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Get to it.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And so who are you concerned is going through your stuff?
- 3:59Speaker 3: John's daughter goes through Angelina's stuff, and he goes through mine.
- 4:04Speaker 3: The steak was here when I got up in the morning,
- 4:06Speaker 3: and the sink is full again. I just think any
- 4:09Speaker 3: adult can just wash their own stuff and put it away.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I feel like he doesn't love me and wants to
- 4:15Speaker 1: control me.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Do you not see the horns holding up his halo?
- 4:20Speaker 3: Because they're there.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Look at how bad John is. He's controlling, he doesn't
- 4:26Speaker 4: clean his dishes, he drinks with his friends, and he
- 4:29Speaker 4: touches my stuff. Don't you see how terrible he is?
- 4:33Speaker 4: I'm not the one who has to change. He is.
- 4:36Speaker 3: If he doesn't change the behaviors that got us here
- 4:39Speaker 3: dealing with me, we're.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Not going to get anywhere.
- 4:42Speaker 1: He doesn't think that they're... Laura. John is not your problem.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Laura. Understand that this is a really effective strategy of abusers.
- 4:53Speaker 4: They will throw you off their trail by accusing other
- 4:56Speaker 4: people of wrongdoing. However, if you know the trick, then
- 5:00Speaker 4: it doesn't work. All you have to do is look
- 5:03Speaker 4: at how Laura behaves.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Laura has been a hoarder since childhood. Growing up, Laura's
- 5:08Speaker 1: room was a mess. Always.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Always.
- 5:13Speaker 4: So she has had this problem for a good 40
- 5:15Speaker 4: years and has never worked on it. What does that
- 5:19Speaker 4: say about her personality and how she handles problems?
- 5:22Speaker 1: I'm like a frustrated perfectionist. I can't clean until I
- 5:27Speaker 1: can do it right or do it all in my
- 5:29Speaker 1: time frame.
- 5:30Speaker 4: This right here is prime behavior of someone who is
- 5:34Speaker 4: not going to change. She is waiting for the perfect situation.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I'm a frustrated perfectionist. I will only clean if I
- 5:42Speaker 4: have the exact circumstances that I want. This is an
- 5:45Speaker 4: excuse that a lot of people will use to not
- 5:48Speaker 4: do something, but make it look like they're going to
- 5:50Speaker 4: do something. I'm too fat. I'll apply for a job
- 5:54Speaker 4: when I lose 40 pounds. Or they'll say things like,
- 5:57Speaker 4: I'll do that after this thing happens. Well, the thing
- 6:00Speaker 4: never happens, so they never end up doing what they
- 6:03Speaker 4: said they were going to do. When people use this excuse,
- 6:06Speaker 4: what it really amounts to is a fear of looking
- 6:09Speaker 4: bad so they are trying to rationalize the situation where
- 6:12Speaker 4: they don't look like a fool. That's not how the
- 6:15Speaker 4: world works. You don't get to escape sucking at new
- 6:18Speaker 4: things or things that are difficult. If you aren't willing
- 6:21Speaker 4: to look bad, then you will never be good at
- 6:23Speaker 4: anything or have anything substantial. Clearly, Laura has this fear
- 6:28Speaker 4: because every time someone makes her look bad by pointing
- 6:30Speaker 4: out her evil, she deflects the blame. That action has
- 6:34Speaker 4: destroyed her relationship with her family.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I used to get upset on a daily basis about
- 6:41Speaker 2: the house, and it always resulted in a screaming match,
- 6:46Speaker 2: which wasn't doing anybody any good.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Listen up, women. Men hate it when they work all
- 6:56Speaker 4: day while you have been at home, and they come
- 6:59Speaker 4: home to a dirty house. Laura is a stay-at-home mom,
- 7:03Speaker 4: and she has trashed her boyfriend's house where she lives
- 7:06Speaker 4: for free. When he brings up the fact that she
- 7:09Speaker 4: is a leech, she starts yelling.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Spoken just like a teenage girl talking to her stepfather,
- 7:15Speaker 3: Laura clearly does not think of herself.
- 7:17Speaker 4: As an adult.
- 7:18Speaker 2: She has destroyed her relationship.
- 7:20Speaker 1: With her boyfriend John, her stepdaughter Jessie hates her, and.
- 7:37Speaker 4: She has taken over her daughter Angelina's room because she
- 7:40Speaker 4: has filled her own bedroom with crap. Imagine being 14
- 7:44Speaker 4: and having to sleep with your crazy mom instead of
- 7:47Speaker 4: having your own room. Yeah, Laura wants everyone to believe
- 7:50Speaker 4: that she is mother of the year.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Anybody that I know that has a perfectly clean house,
- 7:57Speaker 3: I don't think their children are half as happy as mine.
- 7:59Speaker 4: No one has ever questioned how much you love your kids.
- 8:08Speaker 5: I love you.
- 8:08Speaker 3: I love you too.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Uh, I'll question it. Good parents who love their children
- 8:15Speaker 4: don't destabilize their family by yelling all the time and
- 8:18Speaker 4: not contributing to the team. Actually, that's me being too nice.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Not only is Laura not contributing to the team, she
- 8:25Speaker 4: is bringing the team down. How are your daughter and
- 8:28Speaker 4: your stepdaughter supposed to bring friends over to the house?
- 8:31Speaker 4: If I was in high school and I brought my
- 8:33Speaker 4: friends over to see this filth, I would be embarrassed
- 8:36Speaker 4: out of my mind. She is putting all of that
- 8:39Speaker 4: onto the children that she says she loves. The problems
- 8:43Speaker 4: with Laura don't end there. They get even worse. But first,
- 8:47Speaker 4: a message from this video's sponsor, Sandman.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Zuck the Cuck drinks water like a duck, but he
- 8:52Speaker 5: also drinks your data. So tell him and Google to
- 8:55Speaker 5: shove your data up their schwing-schwangs by downloading the Brave browser.
- 9:00Speaker 5: It's free, blocks online advertising, and protects your privacy and
- 9:03Speaker 5: data from evil tech companies. You only see ads if
- 9:06Speaker 5: you want to see them, and you get cryptocurrency for
- 9:08Speaker 5: your attention. Don't let Zuck use you to make a buck.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Download Brave by clicking on the link down below.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Alright, check this out.
- 9:18Speaker 1: About 16 years ago, there was a change of custody
- 9:22Speaker 1: of my three older children. When both fathers inspired with
- 9:28Speaker 1: CPS to get custody away from me by using my
- 9:32Speaker 1: home environment to....
- 9:36Speaker 4: Pay attention to the way she worded that. Both fathers,
- 9:40Speaker 4: three older children. So wait, she has four kids by
- 9:44Speaker 4: three different fathers, and she is the responsible one in
- 9:48Speaker 4: the house? Her boyfriend John must have some real demons then.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Angelina is her daughter with John, but she had three
- 9:55Speaker 4: kids before him that were taken away by CPS. And again...
- 10:00Speaker 4: pay attention to how she worded it. They conspired to
- 10:03Speaker 4: get custody away from me by using my home environment.
- 10:07Speaker 4: So she is saying that hoarding fucked up two relationships
- 10:10Speaker 4: in the past, and now she's going for a third.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Just like her previous relationships, her current boyfriend wants to
- 10:17Speaker 4: break up with her and get full custody of their daughter.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I always intended on getting custody of Angelina. I don't
- 10:23Speaker 2: think that being around her mom is going to be helpful.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Keep in mind, guys, this is what Laura used to
- 10:31Speaker 4: look like. A fate that happens to many hot women
- 10:34Speaker 4: who are crazy as soon as they get what they want.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Laura is not an outlier. Such a remarkable woman, though.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Someone you can really look up to. Now, I don't
- 10:45Speaker 4: know how her other three kids turned out, but we
- 10:47Speaker 4: can see who her fourth child, Angelina, is becoming.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I don't like that Laura and Angelina have to share
- 10:54Speaker 2: a room.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Angelina should have her own room.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I like her in there.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I like her sleeping in the bed because I like
- 10:59Speaker 3: to know she's there. I love my mom.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I guess I'm a mommy's girl.
- 11:05Speaker 4: During the entire episode, this was the most devastating thing
- 11:08Speaker 4: to hear. Laura is a disaster, and her daughter looks
- 11:12Speaker 4: up to her. When people have role models, they mimic
- 11:16Speaker 4: their behavior. so it comes as no surprise that 14-year-old
- 11:20Speaker 4: Angelina's room is a complete mess. I originally thought it
- 11:24Speaker 4: was her mother's trash, but they state in the show
- 11:26Speaker 4: that almost all of it is Angelina's. Angelina is going
- 11:30Speaker 4: to repeat the mistakes of her mother. It's not just that.
- 11:34Speaker 4: It also seems that Laura's goal is to infantilize her
- 11:37Speaker 4: daughter so that she doesn't become independent.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Is this 100% all your stuff in here?
- 11:45Speaker 1: I'd say 97 to 98% of it is probably hers.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Just want to make sure that you speak, Angelina.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Okay.
- 11:54Speaker 1: You know, Dorothy asked you the question and your mom
- 11:57Speaker 1: answered it.
- 11:58Speaker 4: What just happened here is that Angelina was given an
- 12:01Speaker 4: opportunity to articulate her position and her mom stole that
- 12:04Speaker 4: from her. That's a telling sign of a controlling parent.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Laura does this multiple times during the episode, and probably
- 12:12Speaker 4: more when the cameras are off. Kids need the opportunity
- 12:15Speaker 4: to fumble with their words, otherwise they won't learn how
- 12:19Speaker 4: to speak for themselves. You can see that in the
- 12:21Speaker 4: way that Angelina speaks. She is 14, but she articulates
- 12:25Speaker 4: like she is 7 or 8.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I think the dresser would be more useful for her.
- 12:30Speaker 2: It's kind of falling apart, and my clothes always get
- 12:33Speaker 2: stuck on it.
- 12:34Speaker 1: No, thank you.
- 12:34Speaker 3: You can take it.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Laura is so selfish and cares so little about her
- 12:38Speaker 4: daughter that she even manipulates her daughter into hating her father.
- 12:47Speaker 4: This all comes from a person who thinks that she
- 12:52Speaker 4: can do no wrong. Everybody sins and everybody makes mistakes.
- 12:56Speaker 4: You should be really suspicious about the people who try
- 12:59Speaker 4: to hide that in themselves. But despite Laura's cancerous behavior,
- 13:03Speaker 4: John actually appears to be saying the right things.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Talk to me. I'm tired of listening to everybody talk
- 13:10Speaker 1: bad about Mom.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I know that's really hard, and you know what? It's
- 13:20Speaker 2: very hard for all of us because we do care
- 13:23Speaker 2: about Mom, but she needs to get better, you know?
- 13:27Speaker 5: I understand that, but I just don't understand why you
- 13:30Speaker 5: guys have to talk bad to her.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Give me a hug. Yes, a father apologizing to his
- 13:47Speaker 4: daughter for his mistakes. None of that, I did the
- 13:50Speaker 4: best that I could, or you survived, it couldn't have
- 13:54Speaker 4: been that bad. These are bullshit excuses that bad parents make,
- 13:59Speaker 4: and they don't work in the real world. Imagine that
- 14:02Speaker 4: you pay $ 20 to go see a two-hour movie, and
- 14:05Speaker 4: it's terrible. Does the director get a pass for making
- 14:08Speaker 4: a shitty movie because he did the best that he could?
- 14:11Speaker 1: No.
- 14:12Speaker 4: He wasted your money and your time. The least he
- 14:15Speaker 4: could do is apologize for his failure and try to
- 14:17Speaker 4: do better the next time. But you have so many
- 14:20Speaker 4: bad parents out there who just make excuses instead of
- 14:23Speaker 4: making changes. All that does is ensure that the parents
- 14:26Speaker 4: are going to repeat the bad behavior and the kids
- 14:29Speaker 4: are going to repeat their parents' mistakes. Nobody makes changes
- 14:33Speaker 4: when they make excuses or feel that nothing is wrong. Well,
- 14:36Speaker 4: that's how my parents parented me, so it must be
- 14:39Speaker 4: okay for my kids. How about instead read a book?
- 14:43Speaker 4: There are shitloads of them on how to parent. At
- 14:46Speaker 4: least John here is starting to make the right decisions.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Through his apology, he is showing that he actually cares
- 14:51Speaker 4: about his daughter.
- 14:52Speaker 3: I just felt that he understood how I was feeling
- 14:55Speaker 3: this entire time a little bit better, and it made
- 14:57Speaker 3: me feel better that he understood.
- 15:00Speaker 4: He apologizes to his daughter for screwing up as a parent,
- 15:04Speaker 4: and later makes a commitment to set healthier boundaries with Laura.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Seeing this and the rest of the episode, it sounds
- 15:10Speaker 4: to me like John was trying to play Captain Sabaho
- 15:13Speaker 4: with his girlfriend of 16 years when he first met her.
- 15:17Speaker 4: You have this miserable, attractive woman who just got her
- 15:20Speaker 4: kids taken away, and she has no place to live.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Don't worry, you can just live with John. Then it
- 15:27Speaker 4: blew up in his face like these things always do.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Maybe this metaphor will help you understand why you shouldn't
- 15:33Speaker 4: try to save crazy women by dating them. Back in
- 15:36Speaker 4: the day, until germ theory was popularized in 1880, people
- 15:40Speaker 4: used to believe that diseases were spread by miasma, a
- 15:44Speaker 4: toxic gas, from being in a bad area. In this situation,
- 15:48Speaker 4: the obvious solution is to remove that person from the
- 15:51Speaker 4: bad air and they will become better. How do you
- 15:54Speaker 4: find out where the good air is? Well, you go
- 15:57Speaker 4: where people aren't sick. So you would take a sick
- 15:59Speaker 4: person and put him in the clean air where people
- 16:02Speaker 4: are healthy. What happens then? The sick person gets all
- 16:06Speaker 4: the healthy people sick. You don't make sick people healthy
- 16:09Speaker 4: by putting them around healthy people. It is far more
- 16:12Speaker 4: likely that the sick person will make all of the
- 16:15Speaker 4: healthy people sick. And that is exactly what Laura did
- 16:18Speaker 4: with John. Their family is in complete disarray because of
- 16:22Speaker 4: her lack of cleanliness. The only places in the house
- 16:25Speaker 4: that were clean were places that she couldn't go. Cleaning
- 16:29Speaker 4: anywhere else would be pointless. So how did this all
- 16:32Speaker 4: turn out? They cleaned the house, and John and Laura
- 16:35Speaker 4: decided that they were going to break up. John said
- 16:38Speaker 4: that he would pay for two months of storage for
- 16:40Speaker 4: her belongings and allow her one month to find a
- 16:43Speaker 4: place to live. Happy ending, right? No. Changes for people
- 16:47Speaker 4: like Laura are extremely difficult. My guess is that most
- 16:51Speaker 4: of the hoarders on this show don't change once the
- 16:54Speaker 4: filming is over. At the end of the episode, the
- 16:57Speaker 4: month had passed and Laura had made no effort to move.
- 17:01Speaker 4: I did some Google searching and I found them on
- 17:03Speaker 4: an episode of Dr. Phil two years after the 2015
- 17:07Speaker 4: episode of Hoarders. Their situation is even worse. Jessie became
- 17:12Speaker 4: a teen mom slash future single mother at 18 and
- 17:15Speaker 4: Laura still lives in the house with no job and
- 17:18Speaker 4: now her hoarding is worse. Not only is she hoarding junk,
- 17:22Speaker 4: she is also hoarding animals. I guess child abuse wasn't enough,
- 17:26Speaker 4: so she had to throw in animal abuse as well.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Laura was also caught abusing Jesse's child by force-feeding her
- 17:33Speaker 4: when the child refused to eat. Seeing that Laura has
- 17:36Speaker 4: no money of her own, John is also partially responsible
- 17:40Speaker 4: because he won't say no and kick her out of
- 17:42Speaker 4: the house. She probably guilted him into letting her stay.
- 17:46Speaker 4: If you have invited a person like Laura into your house,
- 17:49Speaker 4: then you can't be a spineless wimp when it comes
- 17:52Speaker 4: time to kick them out. This entire episode of Hoarders
- 17:56Speaker 4: is why you don't play Captain Sabaho. You will not
- 17:59Speaker 4: make these women better. They will make you worse. The
- 18:02Speaker 4: reality is that it takes an entire team of people
- 18:05Speaker 4: to cure an addict like Laura. For example, if someone
- 18:09Speaker 4: is a severe alcoholic, it takes a medical team in
- 18:12Speaker 4: a hospital to make sure they don't die from the detox,
- 18:16Speaker 4: a rehab team, a 12-step program with a sponsor, a psychologist,
- 18:21Speaker 4: and maybe a psychiatrist just to give them the chance
- 18:24Speaker 4: of getting better. And then those problems become even more
- 18:27Speaker 4: difficult if they have multiple addictions. You as Captain Sabaho
- 18:32Speaker 4: are not going to be able to fix that. You
- 18:35Speaker 4: don't have the experience to help her. Attempting to do
- 18:37Speaker 4: that will only end up making both of you worse.
- 18:40Speaker 4: The best thing you can do for an addict is
