- 0:00Hello, and welcome back to the Spiritual Shitshow podcast.
- 0:02My name is Julia Nguyen, and welcome to my little slice of podcast land, and hopefully this is the space where you can hear me share the beautiful, chaotic, and sometimes absolute disaster of being a human being on a spiritual journey, and you can say,"Yeah.
- 0:21Same." Today we're talking about a fear that almost everyone carries into therapy, coaching, energy work, or even just a deep conversation with a close friend.
- 0:31I know I feel it.
- 0:33You might feel it too, and it's that quiet, icy little voice in the back of your mind that whispers,"Oh my God, what if they see what's actually inside of me?" Let's be honest for a second.
- 0:46When you sign up to do the work, whatever that looks like for you, there is this terrifying thought,"What if you find something I don't want you to see?" I know when I go to certain healers or psychics or therapists even, I get so hot and sweaty, and the reason I do that is because I don't know what's actually inside of me.
- 1:08I'm actually really, really, really kind of scared, and what if you find something that I don't even know is there?
- 1:14What if you see something inside of me that don't...
- 1:17I'm like,"Oh my God, I don't...
- 1:19I have no idea." We treat our inner world like a horror movie sometimes.
- 1:24We're convinced that if we open that creaky locked door at the end of the hallway, we're gonna find out we were fundamentally broken.
- 1:32We think the healer, the coach, or the universe is gonna look at us and go,"Oh my God, we have a lot of work to do." but after years of doing my own deep dive healing and sitting in the passenger seat for so many of my clients' journeys, I realized something that completely changes the game healing does not have to feel like it's an exorcism.
- 1:53It's not something that we have to be afraid of.
- 1:55It's not a demolition project.
- 1:58Healing can simply just be human housekeeping.
- 2:04And guess what?
- 2:05Everybody has a junk drawer I want you to think about your actual physical house.
- 2:10You've got the spaces that you love.
- 2:12You have the cozy corner where the morning light hits just right.
- 2:16You have your favorite couch and your favorite blanket, and the kitchen where everyone hangs out and laughs.
- 2:23And then you have that room.
- 2:26Maybe it's the spare bedroom where you throw everything because you just don't know what to do with it, or maybe it's that closet that literally is stuffed from floor to ceiling.
- 2:33I have that.
- 2:34Maybe it's the garage that just, it's just packed with stuff.
- 2:38Or literally, it's just the drawer in the kitchen that is currently holding three dead batteries, a thousand pens that don't work, a receipt from twenty nineteen, four mystery keys, and a rubber band.
- 2:52You know what drawer I'm talking about, right?
- 2:55When guests come over, you don't take them to the junk room.
- 2:58You close the door, you might even lock it.
- 3:01And if someone accidentally starts walking towards it, your heart kinda panics a little bit and you're like,"Please do not go in there." We do the exact same thing with our souls.
- 3:11we try to keep everyone in the brightly lit living room of our lives.
- 3:14We show off our achievements, our Insta reels, our good moods, our put-together selves, And we guard the messy room with our lives.
- 3:26But here is the spiritual truth of the day.
- 3:30The messy room doesn't mean anything.
- 3:34It doesn't mean that you're bad, or that your house is haunted, or that you're messy.
- 3:40It just means you live here.
- 3:43You have a space that your soul lives in, and we all need to do some human housekeeping When you do healing work, you aren't inviting a wrecking ball into your home.
- 3:55You're just hiring somebody to help you go through the boxes.
- 3:58It's so much easier to clean house when you have support.
- 4:04And when we finally open that door That's gonna take a minute to clear out, do you know what you usually find?
- 4:11It's just old stuff.
- 4:13It's stuff that isn't serving you anymore.
- 4:15It's a belief you picked up in the third grade that you don't need anymore.
- 4:19It's some dusty, unprocessed grief from a breakup five years ago.
- 4:22It's some outdated coping mechanism that served you when you were a kid, but it's just now taking up space in the closet.
- 4:31It's just literally clutter.
- 4:33That's it.
- 4:34human clutter, energetic clutter, psychic clutter.
- 4:38And I want us to be able to normalize normal human housekeeping I am sitting in my house right now.
- 4:48I'm looking around at some of the spaces that could use a little clean out in my own physical house.
- 4:54It's just what happens when we're living.
- 4:57We accumulate.
- 4:59We throw things in corners that we don't wanna deal with yet, but eventually we have to clean it out.
- 5:06Normal human housekeeping.
- 5:09So my invitation to you this week on The Spiritual Shit Show is to take a deep breath and give yourself permission to have a messy room, to have a junk drawer.
- 5:19Stop pretending your inner house is a pristine minimalist catalog.
- 5:22It is not.
- 5:23You are human, and we all have junk drawers I have many junk drawers.
- 5:29And the most enlightened spiritual gurus on the planet have junk drawers too.
- 5:35and if you're ready just to clean out a drawer or a room, now is the perfect time.
- 5:43When we start easing into autumn, fall, it's the most beautiful time to start going through the things that are not serving us anymore.
- 5:56And if you need a little support doing your human housekeeping, I'm right here with my rubber gloves and broom to help support you.
- 6:09Thank you for listening.
- 6:11If this episode made you look at your own inner junk drawer with a little bit more love, a little bit more compassion, and a lot less shame, do me a favor and share it with a friend who needs to hear it And until next time, keep embracing the beautiful shit show.
- 6:28You are human.
- 6:29I am human.
- 6:31We all need a little human housekeeping, and it's okay to have that junk drawer
